Giving the SAT a Facelift to Improve Standardized Scores
American students, especially African and Latin Americans are performing poorly on international
assessments such as the PISA. On the 2012 PISA math and science scores remained below average
(496) for African Americans scoring 421 in math and 439 science and Latin Americans 455 in math
and 462 in science (National Center for Education Statistics, 2012). The educational disparities is
exacerbated by the low high school graduation rates and college attendance by minorities. Part of the
problem can be attributed to the disproportionately high number of minority students in remedial
classes and lack of diversity in gifted education programs. Several factors contribute to a
disproportionate number of minority students being placed in special education. Poverty perpetuate
problems ranging from premature births to impoverished neighborhoods. Insufficient funding,
inadequate resources, and poor curriculum impedes a constructive learning environment (Artiles,
Harry, Reschly, Chinn, 2002). Also the lack of cultural cohesion between teachers and students may
result in students of color placed in special education programs (Bailey, 2012). In addition, some
assessments used for placement may be culturally bias (Artiles, Harry, Reschly, Chinn, 2002) and
students possibly lack suitable instruction before being placed in remedial education. Students in
impoverished neighborhoods receive considerably less state and local funding, the lack of resources
increase the probability of being

The Cabin Of An Airplane
It s very easy to fall sick these days especially when you re traveling and you should try and find out
as much as possible about how you can prevent this from happening to you. Naturally, it s quite scary
to contemplate some of the stories that we ve come across in the New England journal in the recent
past, about airline passengers who have passed on some really worrisome diseases to others who are
travelling with them. The cabin of an airplane is a closed space and in this environment there s a lot of
chance for germs to multiply and spread. Some are even potentially hazardous like E_coli, salmo
nella, coli form, rota virus. Even the common cold is not exempt as well as MRSA, which is very well
known form of staph. You might think that these germs can be contracted from any place that has lots
of people passing through, but the fact is that busier a place is, the more likely it is to have plenty of
germs. But then, we can t possibly keep ourselves away from these places where germs breed so easily
because for practical purposes we need to travel and even go to places that have heavy crowds like
shops and movie halls. So what can you do to prevent picking up these germs if you simply have to
travel or visit these places? Experts give a few pointers below on how to stay away from the germs
and stay healthy. Sitting at the front of the plane. Try and get a seat near the front, because there s
better air flow from the ventilation systems here, advises

How Did Elvis Influence
How did Elvis Presley make an influence? To many people, he was the definition of the 20th century.
Elvis is most known for his music. Many people think he invented Rock and Roll, but he didn t. He
was a big influence in it though. His style made it unique. It was a sound no one has ever heard before.
Segregation was a big part of the 20th century. Elvis grew up listening to African American singers.
Elvis had a huge following. Once people realized that Elvis was inspired by African American singers,
they began to realize that they weren t so different from us. African American singers became more
and more popular. I guess you can say Elvis helped end segregation. Elvis was drafted in the army in
the year of 1957. When fans found out he

The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan Food Culture
In 2009 food detective Michael Pollan published an eye opening book called The Omnivore s
Dilemma. According to Pollan, we don t know what to eat because unlike other cultures around the
world, Americans lack a stable food culture. Food cultures are traditions that are passed down from
generation to generation to teach us how to cook and eat food. These cultures can help you stay
healthy and more importantly, enjoy your food.
In chapter 8 of the Omnivore s Dilemma, Michael Pollan explains how other cultures like the French
have traditions that have been passed down for generations. For instance, in chapter 8 Michael Pollan
says that You ll never see a French person eating while driving or walking down the street. They
seldom eat alone. Instead, they eat with family or friends, and their meals are long leisurely affairs. In
other words, the French culture of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reason for this is because we have too much choice. Pollan explains all throughout the book about
how food companies and the industrial food industry tend to modify their products to seem more
appealing to the modern omnivore. They slap on labels that say organic, or cage free. They also
modify the food so that it says reduced fat, or gluten free. But in reality, they are taking out vital
nutrients and other things that we depend on to survive. Pollan tells us at the beginning of chapter 8
that Today the modern omnivore has almost no culture to fall back on. Standing in our giant

My Brothers By F. Scott Fitzgerald
I felt the dread sink like a rock in my stomach. My two brothers, Ryan and Matthew, were on the
opposite end of the spectrum. My mother had been telling us for weeks that we were going up to the
farm that my family owned, but I didn t quite believe her until today. My brothers were given dirt
bikes last Christmas while I was given a ATV. Both of them had been counting down the days until
they were able to finally ride the dirt bikes and that day had come. After everything was packed, I
crammed myself in the van with my brothers and hoped for this trip to end quickly. After two long
hours of traveling with nothing to look at but the passing trees, we finally arrived at the farm. As we
piled out of the car, I looked at the dirt road we came in on and turned to the house. It was one story
and had a red tin roof, surrounded by a large grassy field and then woods beyond that. Twirling
around, I walked into the house and plopped onto the closes bed. As everyone else unpacked, I locked
myself in the room like a petulant child. Eventually my resolve broke and I crept out of the room to
see what everyone else was up to. All of the food had been unpacked and the dirt bikes and ATV had
been taken off of the trailer. Helmets were promptly passed out and my brothers slung their legs over
the bikes and were gone. Not about to be left behind, I jumped on my ATV and I was on their trail.
The trails were newly cleared in the woods and almost running into the trees served as a

Symptoms And Treatment Of An Idiopathic Etiology
As previously reported, Ms. Noid referred herself for a voice evaluation because of a chronic,
persistent dysphonia characterized by severe hoarseness and breathiness. She had a recent ENT report
indicating a left adductor vocal cord paralysis which is paralyzed in the intermediate position.
Furthermore, she has reported that her symptoms have persisted for 18 months, eliminating the
possibility of an idiopathic etiology. After completing a voice evaluation, recommendations for
medical clearance would include evaluations performed by a laryngologist, neurologist, and/or
evaluations performed by professionals who would be part of the client s medical team. The
recommendation for treatment options would be begin by educating the client, and providing her with
behavioral and medical treatment options. Furthermore, Ms. Noid would be informed with the benefits
and potential side effects of the various treatments. Since Ms. Noid, presents with a left adductor vocal
fold paralysis in the intermediate position (situated midway between abduction and paramedian
position), behavioral interventions could be applied before considering surgical treatments. With vocal
fold paralysis, Ms. Noid may have developed compensatory mechanisms, which can be eliminated
through education and proper compensatory techniques. Behavioral treatments that can be
implemented include: Pushing Techniques, Vocal Function Exercises, Resonant Voice Therapy, or Lee
Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT). Pushing

Mean Girls Essay
The film that I chose to write about is a Paramount Pictures presentation titled Mean Girls, starring
Lindsay Lohan and also featuring a handful of Saturday Night Live cast members, including Tina Fey
the author of this picture. The reason behind choosing this film is because it has a unique style of
introducing characters, transitioning between scenes, and various tools to help spice up the film. Being
one of my personal favorites, Mean Girls is a comedy about a home schooled teenage girl who enters
high school for the first time. She tries to figure herself out by where she can fit in and who she needs
to become friends with. Cady Heron is the main character (played by Lohan) who narrates through out

The, A Independent Label Executive Essay
As a Independent label Executive; I am in a constant game of playing the sheep in a padded room
surrounded by Elephants. I prepare for the abuse of being trampled upon, but hope that my coyness
will somehow make me invisible. I for one can honestly say that I receive thousands of phone calls
during a typical week from independent label owners and execs with the same sentiments. How can I
avoid being Robbed , I ponder? I understand the position of the Majors and furthermore realize that
the consumers are no longer standing in lines at Sam Goody s to purchase that ten dollar cd. I never

landscape of the Industry? To better understand this, one must first realize that the music industry has

Klinefelter Syndrome Advantages And Disadvantages
CHROMOSOMAL ABNORMALITIES
A) NUMERICAL CHROMOSOME ABNORMALITIES
1) Klinefelter Syndrome
This syndrome was first described by Harry Klinefelter in 1942 as a clinical condition with small
testes, azoospermia, gynecomastia and an elevated serum FSH. (56) Only in 1959 was the
chromosomal basis of the disorder described. Subsequently the diagnosis of Klinefelter syndrome has
required the demonstration of the 47,XXY karyotype or one of its rarer variants. (57)
The prevalence of Klinefelter syndrome appears to be approximately 1 in 660 males, and recent data
suggest a rising incidence over the last decades. (58) It is the most frequent form of primary testicular
dysfunction affecting spermatogenesis as well as hormone production and is found in ... Show more

(66) The rate of diploidy of sperm as well as disomy for gonosomes and autosomes seems to be
increased in patients with Klinefelter syndrome, however, the majority of sperm appear to be normal.
(67) Preliminary data suggest that in about 20 50 percent of patients with Klinefelter syndrome it may
be possible to retrieve sperm by TESE. (68) Several pregnancies have been achieved with testicular
sperm used for ICSI. The embryos show normal or aneuploid karyotypes which can be identified by
preimplantation or prenatal diagnosis. Interestingly, the birth of normal children conceived by assisted
reproductive techniques seems to be rule, suggesting that the few sperm which can be found in about
50% of patients with Klinefelter syndrome possibly derive from the clonal expansion of
spermatogonia with unremarkable karyotype problems.

FFA Drones Case

Currently, the FFA has been given the power to create federal regulations around the operation of
drones, but they have not been clearly defined yet which would make operating drones. Some states
and local municipalities have even also created their own statutes in order to keep up with the

John Maynard Keynes

John Maynard Keynes Social Theory
Although much of his ideas were often misunderstood throughout his life, Keynes offered bright new
insights into the nature and origin of financial theories. In his most well known writings, The General
Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money, which was published in 1936, Keynes worked to break
down the prior ideas of traditional economics and point out its inadequacies, which became obvious
during the downturn of the economy. He felt a new approach was needed, and through his work in The
General Theory, he sought to bring this transformed stance to light and make sense of the economic
crisis that surrounded him. Keynes entire social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This liquidity preference usually comes in the form of cash, or other quick and readily available
forms, which do not present much effort in the retrieving of funds. People with this liquidity
preference simply like to have the security of having their money more quickly available to them and
within their
control at all times. These forms of liquid money bring the investor a sense of security and control
over their assets something that will comfort them in times of uncertainty. According to Keynes, there
are two types of moneys of account, first, there s normal money, or money proper, then there is bank
money. These are just two different forms the amount of exchange value can take in the form of the
dollar. Whenever ones actions with money projects their expectations into the future there is always a
higher level of uncertainty, with loaning having a considerable level of uncertainty. With this
uncertainty, the expectations of the investor, or that of effective demand, may often require some form
of disquietude in order to feel more comfortable and safe dealing in such uncertain terms. This
disquietude can often be offered in the form of the rate of the rate of interest on ones investments. It is
the amount the interest that will greatly determine whether or not one will be willing to give the loan,
for the rate of interest works to deter ones propensity to hoard. The higher the rate of interest, the more

Virtue Ethics In Hockey
Hockey is not only a sport of power with filigree technique of puck handling and speed skating, but it
also differs by violence and countless injuries caused by meaningless fights. Ethicists increasingly
shown their concern wondering if hockey fights are legitimate from the point of morality. Fights are
taking place even if the fans are upset by the players game and effort; in this way, the inescapable
question of whether fighting in hockey is really a major component of being named an ethical hockey
competitor emerges. How does fighting fit in with the desires of a hockey players by expert, universal,

hockey players code of morals? Do we need to abrogate the fighting from all levels of sport? Utilizing
moral hypothesis, this article is to address these inquiries.
Virtue Ethics in Fighting Virtues and vices are qualities of character that are shown through ongoing
activity . The previous are attractive, while the last are certainly not. A virtue can be characterized as a

characteristics in themselves. For instance, the virtue of valor might be found between the vices of

points: (1) Sometimes the reason for a fight could be a revenge, or an intimidating the opponents. (2)
There would be no compelling reason to act bravely as to fighting if there were no fight in any case.

Key Communication Failures That Were Exposed During...
Freeman Teague Jr. effectively expresses the importance and complexity of communication. At one
time the U.S. Army defined communication as the exchange and flow of information and ideas from
one person to another; it involves a sender transmitting an idea, information, or feeling to a receiver
(Clark, 2015). Throughout this paper we will expound on key communication failures that were
exposed during Operation Anaconda. The overall verdict is that Anaconda s outcome was a success,
but its original plan was a resounding failure. Many things contributed to the failure, but this paper
will focus on the communication aspect.
Effective communication occurs only if the receiver understands the exact information or idea that the
sender intended to transmit. Many of the problems that occur in an organization are: the direct result
of people failing to communicate and processes that leads to confusion and can cause good plans to
fail (Clark, 2015). To understand how some of the soon to be discussed failures arose, all of the key
commanders need to be identified. When Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) began General Tommy
Franks was the CENTCOM Combatant Commander in Tampa, Florida. Events on 9/11 lead to us
having forces in Afghanistan soon after. From the beginning of the war Special Forces (SOF) were the
primary assets utilized. As time went on conventional units were joining the forces in theatre. This

existent. Literature, likewise, can be a cultural artifact, as the compositions are both social evidence
and testimony. A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry gives historical insight and evidence, describing
the culture of life in India. Both the corruption of power and the sufferings of the people spread across
the pages. Written by an Indian born Canadian, the events are gruesomely true and have the purpose to
educate and create more empathetic readers. Illustrating the downfall of life in India under the

Initially, Dina Dalal is not worried about the Emergency, she feels that since she is in the middle class
she has nothing to worry about: [The Emergency is] government problems games played by people in
power. It doesn t affect ordinary people like us (83). However, immediately after the plan affects her
personally, by de housing the tailors, she changes her mind: It s terrible, government makes laws
without thinking ... the government should let homeless people sleep on the pavements. Then my
tailors wouldn t have disappeared (431). Dina represents what many of the callous middle class
citizens of Bombay feel: unworried until personally threatened. Also sharing displeased emotions with
the government is Avinash who is part of the student body within the city. Students like Avinash are
similarly subversive, fighting for better conditions in college, but more importantly for India. Avinash
reveals that the fundamental rights have been suspended, most of the opposition is under arrest, and ...
[that] the press is being censored (285). Although this group of students have more opportunities than
many other, lower class, citizens, they are just as restless. Mistry continues to share how widespread
similar emotions are by describing from the viewpoints of different social classes.

Benefitfocus Case
Purpose
The brief that follows provides an overview of Benefitfocus, Inc. and highlights the business
performance, competitive landscape, prospects, and challenges facing the company.
Conclusions
At first glance a prospective investor might be turned off by the fact that Benefitfocus net income
seems to be headed in the entirely wrong direction. Losses have ballooned from 30M in 2013 to 62M
in 2015. However, it is important to note that the company s net income as a percentage of its revenue
is headed in the right direction. The profit margin has improved from 74% in 2013 to 19.31% through
three quarters of 2016. The fact that revenue growth has far outstripped cost growth over the past few
years indicates that positive operating leverage is inherit in Benefitfocus business model. If these
trends continue Benefitfocus should reach breakeven sooner rather than later.
Benefitfocus jumped closer to profitability in the first months of 2017, posting better than expected
results that boosted its stock Friday (Moore, 2017).

Purpose: The motive of this experiment is to determine the pH with potentiometric measurement using
a pH meter and electrode.
Procedure: In this lab we worked with several compounds, and we titrated an unknown weak acid as
well as a known amount of potassium hydrogen phthalate. On day one we were tasked with filling
several test tubes with a few milliliters of various solutions (pH 7, HCl, deionized water, H3BO3
NaHCO3, etc.) and evaluating the pH of each substance (refer to table I). The pH was evaluated using
a pH meter as well as an electrode. Before the evaluation was performed, the pH meter/ electrode were

My Favorite Point Ms. Mcintosh
My favorite point Ms. McIntosh makes is I can choose blemish cover or bandages in flesh color and
have them more or less match my skin. Holy cow, this is so incredibly true, and I never realized it
until I read this article. Most drugstores don t carry make up dark enough for African Americans. I
have seen white women use, powder foundation made for black women to highlight their face to make
it look tan. It is so ignorant by the make up companies, to not cater to women of all shades. You can
walk down the make up aisle and find ten different shades for white women and two maybe three dark
ones. Black skin comes in just as many tints as white skin does. Same with bandages, black people get
scrapes and cuts too, why don t you make a skin colored bandage for them? For crying out loud, we
make neon pink, orange, green, and purple but we cant have a brown color? Most grown adults don t
want to wear neon or character bandages, but putting an ivory Band Aid on their finger looks quite
peculiar. Isn t the purpose of a Band Aid to make the skin look normal to divert attention from the
wound? I never realized it but when I babysat for my cousins, the mother and son were African
American, the daughter was biracial, and my cousin was white. They always had character Band Aids,
I never thought twice about it because their kids were young, however it makes complete sense to me.
They don t have bandages to match then skin tone. Even the small things like this, certainly could

Random Act Of Kindness Definition
I believe that kindness is a standout amongst the most vital human qualities. I think it is really nice to
do a random act of kindness sometimes, and it can truly change the standpoint of another person s day.
Once I got this assignment about the random act of kindness I was really glad to take part in a great
deal of kind heartedness. It s always good to make yourself a blessing to someone else. For my
random act of kindness, I distributed ice cold bottles of water to men at the race track who were
working on cars in 90 degree weather. I decided this would be the best one for me to do since I knew it
would be hot and the men needed to stay hydrated. My random act of kindness took place on Sunday

Organ Trafficking Research Paper
A Match Made In Your Abdomen As catchy and endearing as the title the matchmaker may seem, it
carries a darker meaning with it in today s discussion. Mr. Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, the matchmaker ,
was in the lucrative business of brokering the sale of kidneys to U.S. patients who were in dire need of
them. The matchmaker would purchase the kidneys from people from Israel at $10,000 U.S. dollars,
then resale them for a much higher and profitable price. Reports say that some may have been sold for
up to $160,000 U.S. dollars. This incredible case is the first reported organ trafficking one in the
United States. The alleged decade long scheme, exposed this week by an FBI sting, rocked the nation
s transplant industry. The charges, if true, would be the first documented case of organ trafficking in
the U.S., transplant experts said Friday. (Porter and Johnson, 2009). This operation, so to speak, was

The possibility of incompatible donors and receivers is a looming beast which not only wastes a good
organ, but can also harm the receiver. Sometimes in living donation, the blood groups of the donor

past, up to 30% of all potential living donor transplants were considered impossible due to blood
group and antibody incompatibilities. Recently however, it has become possible to transplant patients
in this situation using specialised techniques. Only a few centres routinely perform this in the UK.
(Guys and St. Thomas Hospital, 2017) While we may want to fool ourselves into thinking that the
matchmaker and other organ distributors are using these methods. They are not. They are only using

Essay about How Psychologists Define and Explain Substance...
In order for psychologists to endeavour to define substance abuse, Substance itself must be defined an
in the context of psychology a substance is defined as anything an individual may ingest that alters
mood, cognition or behaviour. Therefore there is clearly a long list of substances including chocolate
(known for changes in level of neurochemical Serotonin) or Coffee (Stimulant). Hence the term
substance is more commonly referred to nicotine, alcohol, stimulants (i.e. cocaine and Ecstacy) and
depressants such as Heroin and Ecstacy.

Orford 2001 defines addiction (substance abuse) as an attachment to an appetitive activity, so strong
that a person finds it difficult to moderate an activity despite the fact it is causing harm. Davidson and
Neal in 1994 diagnosed substance abuse on the basis of two criteria. The first being Clear and
persistent pathological use of the substance involved and at least one of the following: Failure to fulfil
important obligation/putting oneself or others at physical risk/ having legal difficulties/serious social
or interpersonal problems.
The physiological approach explains substance abuse, using solely biological explanations focussing
on neurotransmitter chemicals, substances in the brain and on genetic differences between people with
and without addiction. Potenza 2001 stated that Neurotransmitters are chemicals, which moves in the
gaps between nerve cells to transmit messages. If the chemical is blocked or replaced, for example,
then the message changes and this affects the physiological systems, also effecting, cognition, mood
and behaviour. Dopamine is regarded as the most commonly associated neurotransmitter having these
effects, although other chemicals have been shown to induce similar effects. Therefore resulting in a
good feeling after in taking the substance. According to Sarafino one element, which constitutes
addiction, is physical dependency. Therefore

Summary Of The Rough Rider
One of the lasting impacts of the Spanish American War was the influence of new mass media on the
conflict and the rhetoric utilized to rouse support for the war. Theodore Roosevelt s Rough Riders
cavalry regiment serve as a model for how public perception of the war was shaped by Rough Riders
that was purported to represent American ideals. Christine Bold argues that popular culture and
appeals to national identity allowed the Rough Rider ideal to serve as a justification for the conflict,
while Gail Bederman asserts that this topic is more usefully interpreted through the understanding of
Theodore Roosevelt s ideal man as ideology of masculinity. Specifically, Bederman claims that the
historical significance of the popularity of the ideal of the Western man is that it represents a
Darwinist belief in racial superiority, while Bold argues that the Rough Riders ideal served to justify
the Spanish American War. Christine Bold s article, The Rough Riders at Home and Abroad: Cody,
Roosevelt, Remington, and the Imperialist Hero, tracks the contributions of three important historical
figures: William Cody, Theodore Roosevelt, and Frederic Remington, to the image of the Rough
Riders and the packaged version of the American West and its influence during the Spanish American
War (Bold, 324). After offering background on the conflict, she first considers the contributions of
William Cody and his Wild West Show to the Rough Riders. She details how Cody constructed a

The Dangers Of Airport Security
If airport security had the advanced technology they have now back in 2001, there is a possibility that
the 9/11 hijacking would have never happened. For years people would plant bombs and weapons on

How Organizations Have Used Industrial Organizational...
Introduction: Employees form the basis of a successful organization, and the abilities and behavior of

The selection processes is designed to seek out the most qualified candidate to accomplish the

with different managers of the company. There are an innumerable number of selection methods that
are used for recruitment, selection and training process of employees. This essay aims to expound on

The Affect Of The Declaratory Act On The Ohio River Valley
The French and British were always enemies and the British wanted a land called the Ohio River
Valley. However, the french also wanted this land. The French and British ended up going to war and
the British won. The Native Americans that lived in the Ohio River Valley were not thrilled and to
prevent war with the Native Americans the king created the proclamation of 1763. This set an
imaginary line between the British and the Ohio River Valley. This was intended to keep the British
out of the Ohio River Valley so the American Indians and british wouldn t have to go to war. After the

Act 1 Of Rosencrantz And Guidenstern Are Dead By Tom Stoppard
In act I of Rosencrantz and Guidenstern are dead by Tom Stoppard focuses on two characters,
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. They are embarking on a journey that oddly enough neuther of them
fully recall why exactly they are traveling or who sent them. Just as in Beckets Waiting for Goddot the
characters embark on a game of passing time in order to reach their ultimate goal. In this Play
Rosencrants and Guildenstern are flipping a coin that seems to keep landing on heads. There is an odd
sense of uncertainty that comes from such a certainty of flipping on heads. After a run in with a
traveling group led by a man that goes by player , Rosencrantz and Guildenstern arrive at their
destination of Claudius and Gertrude kingdom of Denmark. They were sent upon by Claudius and
Gertrude in order to figure out what was wrong with Hamlet because of his recent change in behavior.
The scene where Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are sitting around flipping a coin is more important
than most would think. The passing of time is something that is prominent in this story that parallels to
beckets novel. The audience gets a notion that the characters spend so much of their life doing nothing
more than waiting for the next event to happen. Some might say that that all anybody does every day
but I disagree. I feel that the act of waiting has many definitions because many people are active while
waiting just as the characters are in both of the plays. In both situations there is a sense of a loss of

According to Pollan, we don t know what to eat because unlike other cultures around the world, Americans lack a stable food culture. Food cultures are traditions that are passed down from generation to generation to teach us how to cook and eat food. These cultures can help you stay healthy and more importantly, enjoy your food. In chapter 8 of the Omnivore s Dilemma, Michael Pollan explains how other cultures like the French have traditions that have been passed down for generations. For instance, in chapter 8 Michael Pollan says that You ll never see a French person eating while driving or walking down the street. They seldom eat alone. • 9. My Brothers By F. Scott Fitzgerald I felt the dread sink like a rock in my stomach. My two brothers, Ryan and Matthew, were on the opposite end of the spectrum. My mother had been telling us for weeks that we were going up to the farm that my family owned, but I didn t quite believe her until today. My brothers were given dirt bikes last Christmas while I was given a ATV. Both of them had been counting down the days until they were able to finally ride the dirt bikes and that day had come. After everything was packed, I crammed myself in the van with my brothers and hoped for this trip to end quickly. After two long hours of traveling with nothing to look at but the passing trees, we finally arrived at the farm. As we piled out of the car, I looked at the dirt road we came in on and turned to the house. It was one story and had a red tin roof, surrounded by a large grassy field and then woods beyond that. Twirling around, I walked into the house and plopped onto the closes bed. As everyone else unpacked, I locked myself in the room like a petulant child. Eventually my resolve broke and I crept out of the room to see what everyone else was up to. All of the food had been unpacked and the dirt bikes and ATV had been taken off of the trailer. Helmets were promptly passed out and my brothers slung their legs over the bikes and were gone. Not about to be left behind, I jumped on my ATV and I was on their trail. The trails were newly cleared in the woods and almost running into the trees served as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Symptoms And Treatment Of An Idiopathic Etiology As previously reported, Ms. Noid referred herself for a voice evaluation because of a chronic, persistent dysphonia characterized by severe hoarseness and breathiness. She had a recent ENT report indicating a left adductor vocal cord paralysis which is paralyzed in the intermediate position. Furthermore, she has reported that her symptoms have persisted for 18 months, eliminating the possibility of an idiopathic etiology. After completing a voice evaluation, recommendations for medical clearance would include evaluations performed by a laryngologist, neurologist, and/or evaluations performed by professionals who would be part of the client s medical team. The recommendation for treatment options would be begin by educating the client, and providing her with behavioral and medical treatment options. Furthermore, Ms. Noid would be informed with the benefits and potential side effects of the various treatments. Since Ms. Noid, presents with a left adductor vocal fold paralysis in the intermediate position (situated midway between abduction and paramedian position), behavioral interventions could be applied before considering surgical treatments. With vocal fold paralysis, Ms. Noid may have developed compensatory mechanisms, which can be eliminated through education and proper compensatory techniques. At one time the U.S. Army defined communication as the exchange and flow of information and ideas from one person to another; it involves a sender transmitting an idea, information, or feeling to a receiver (Clark, 2015). Throughout this paper we will expound on key communication failures that were exposed during Operation Anaconda. The overall verdict is that Anaconda s outcome was a success, but its original plan was a resounding failure. Many things contributed to the failure, but this paper will focus on the communication aspect. • 34. Random Act Of Kindness Definition I believe that kindness is a standout amongst the most vital human qualities. I think it is really nice to do a random act of kindness sometimes, and it can truly change the standpoint of another person s day. Once I got this assignment about the random act of kindness I was really glad to take part in a great deal of kind heartedness. It s always good to make yourself a blessing to someone else. For my random act of kindness, I distributed ice cold bottles of water to men at the race track who were working on cars in 90 degree weather. I decided this would be the best one for me to do since I knew it would be hot and the men needed to stay hydrated. • 35. Organ Trafficking Research Paper A Match Made In Your Abdomen As catchy and endearing as the title the matchmaker may seem, it carries a darker meaning with it in today s discussion. Mr. Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, the matchmaker , was in the lucrative business of brokering the sale of kidneys to U.S. patients who were in dire need of them. The matchmaker would purchase the kidneys from people from Israel at $10,000 U.S. dollars, then resale them for a much higher and profitable price. Reports say that some may have been sold for up to $160,000 U.S. dollars. This incredible case is the first reported organ trafficking one in the United States. The alleged decade long scheme, exposed this week by an FBI sting, rocked the nation s transplant industry. The charges, if true, would be the first documented case of organ trafficking in the U.S., transplant experts said Friday. (Porter and Johnson, 2009). The possibility of incompatible donors and receivers is a looming beast which not only wastes a good organ, but can also harm the receiver. Sometimes in living donation, the blood groups of the donor (person who is giving the organ) and recipient (person who is receiving the organ) don t match. In the past, up to 30% of all potential living donor transplants were considered impossible due to blood group and antibody incompatibilities. Recently however, it has become possible to transplant patients in this situation using specialised techniques. Only a few centres routinely perform this in the UK. (Guys and St. Thomas Hospital, 2017) While we may want to fool ourselves into thinking that the matchmaker and other organ distributors are using these methods. They are not. Orford 2001 defines addiction (substance abuse) as an attachment to an appetitive activity, so strong that a person finds it difficult to moderate an activity despite the fact it is causing harm. Davidson and Neal in 1994 diagnosed substance abuse on the basis of two criteria. The first being Clear and persistent pathological use of the substance involved and at least one of the following: Failure to fulfil important obligation/putting oneself or others at physical risk/ having legal difficulties/serious social or interpersonal problems. The physiological approach explains substance abuse, using solely biological explanations focussing on neurotransmitter chemicals, substances in the brain and on genetic differences between people with and without addiction. Potenza 2001 stated that Neurotransmitters are chemicals, which moves in the gaps between nerve cells to transmit messages. If the chemical is blocked or replaced, for example, then the message changes and this affects the physiological systems, also effecting, cognition, mood and behaviour. Dopamine is regarded as the most commonly associated neurotransmitter having these effects, although other chemicals have been shown to induce similar effects. • 37. Summary Of The Rough Rider One of the lasting impacts of the Spanish American War was the influence of new mass media on the conflict and the rhetoric utilized to rouse support for the war. Theodore Roosevelt s Rough Riders cavalry regiment serve as a model for how public perception of the war was shaped by Rough Riders that was purported to represent American ideals. Christine Bold argues that popular culture and appeals to national identity allowed the Rough Rider ideal to serve as a justification for the conflict, while Gail Bederman asserts that this topic is more usefully interpreted through the understanding of Theodore Roosevelt s ideal man as ideology of masculinity. Specifically, Bederman claims that the historical significance of the popularity of the ideal of the Western man is that it represents a Darwinist belief in racial superiority, while Bold argues that the Rough Riders ideal served to justify the Spanish American War. Christine Bold s article, The Rough Riders at Home and Abroad: Cody, Roosevelt, Remington, and the Imperialist Hero, tracks the contributions of three important historical figures: William Cody, Theodore Roosevelt, and Frederic Remington, to the image of the Rough Riders and the packaged version of the American West and its influence during the Spanish American War (Bold, 324). After offering background on the conflict, she first considers the contributions of William Cody and his Wild West Show to the Rough Riders. She details how Cody constructed a narrative ... • 44. Act 1 Of Rosencrantz And Guidenstern Are Dead By Tom Stoppard In act I of Rosencrantz and Guidenstern are dead by Tom Stoppard focuses on two characters, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. They are embarking on a journey that oddly enough neuther of them fully recall why exactly they are traveling or who sent them. Just as in Beckets Waiting for Goddot the characters embark on a game of passing time in order to reach their ultimate goal. In this Play Rosencrants and Guildenstern are flipping a coin that seems to keep landing on heads. There is an odd sense of uncertainty that comes from such a certainty of flipping on heads. After a run in with a traveling group led by a man that goes by player , Rosencrantz and Guildenstern arrive at their destination of Claudius and Gertrude kingdom of Denmark. They were sent upon by Claudius and Gertrude in order to figure out what was wrong with Hamlet because of his recent change in behavior. The scene where Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are sitting around flipping a coin is more important than most would think. The passing of time is something that is prominent in this story that parallels to beckets novel. The audience gets a notion that the characters spend so much of their life doing nothing more than waiting for the next event to happen. Some might say that that all anybody does every day but I disagree. I feel that the act of waiting has many definitions because many people are active while waiting just as the characters are in both of the plays. In both situations there is a sense of a loss of ...
