Moral Dilemma Project Examples
Moral Dilemmas Project
Each of the three prominent approaches to moral dilemmas carry with it various aspects with which I
find affinity. For example, generally, each maintain the existence of many absolute moral norms,
meaning that for these norms there are no exceptions or exemptions. Specifically, however, Non
Conflicting Absolutism ( NCA ) highlights the Lord s sovereign rule and transcendence over creation
in arguing that moral norms are birthed from the character and essence of God. For example, Isaiah
55:8 9 (NRSV) says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the
Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my
thoughts than your thoughts. Reminding us, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul declares to the Corinthians, No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is
faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also
provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it (I Cor. 10:13, NASB). Ideal Absolutist argue
that one must choose the lesser of two evils, and as a result in these moral dilemmas one commits a sin
and stands guilty before God however, this sin is pardonable. In other words, we ve made our beds in
sin as humanity and now we must live in it. However, John and Paul Feinberg right note in their co
authored book, Ethics for a Brave New World, Moral philosophers commonly agree that in assessing
moral praise or blame for an action, one must consider whether the agent acted freely or not. The
principle involved is: no one is morally guilty for failing to do what he could not do or for doing what
he could not fail to do [emphasis added]. That is, moral responsibility presupposes freedom of action.
Moral oughts imply that the agent can do his duty [emphasis added]. As such, guilt would not be
imposed when moral conflicts arise simply because one simply cannot not feasibly obey both. One of
the better and simplest metaphors of this is when two roads intersect, one must yield to the other we
refer to this as the right of way . Feinberg and

Road To Genocide Essay
This essay will review the documentary Road to Genocide where Christian paramilitaries in Central
African Republic (CAR) carried out ethnic cleansing of the Muslim population during the state s
ongoing civil war. At the very outset of this video, a crumbling Central Africa is portrayed with utter
mayhem, horrendous acts of violence and human massacres. We will elaborate on how conflict in this
particular context is accentuated with reference to its socio economic, cultural, historical and political
factors.
Digging into the root cause of conflict in CAR
As a matter of fact, conflict is omnipresent and inevitable. People s reaction to conflict varies in
different levels, it can be competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding or even accommodating
(Thomas and Kilmann, 1974). In this video, the main conflict is between the Seleka (the Muslims) and
the Anti Balaka (the Christians). Here, the blatant style is competing from the ends of the Anti Balaka,
who assertively want the Muslims to leave the land at all cost; the Seleka on the other hand are
hopelessly fleeing for their lives.
From an overall perspective, it is clear that human conflict does not occur in ... Show more content on

He beautifully explains how just as lightning a match would ignite an explosion, so a movement of
social time might immediately cause a conflict (Black, 2011). It is interesting to note how conflict can
also be affected by regional factors and how events in neighboring states can impact on the scenarios
for violence (Skrede Gleditsch, 2008). In the video, the neighboring state Chad played a crucial role in
overthrowing the president. The documentary also demonstrates how some people (both Christians
and Muslims) shared the view that transnational ties with France constituted an important role in
spreading the

Analysis Of There Is A Monster By Mary Shelley
Feral children or wild children (What happens to those who grow up in complete isolation?) The lack
of parents presence and responsibilities make children become wild. These following points show how
a child becomes feral: lack of family, lack of guidance, and lack of love. In Shelley s novel, there is a
monster that was created by Victor. He has suffered these lacks. According to Shelley s novel the
creature also becomes wild because the lack of family, guidance and love. A child that grow up
without a family can be describe as a person that is living a desperate life because that child does not
have anybody around him or her to make this child feel more secure about his or her life. To be
specific, most things they can do when their parents are not around them, they will not do it if the
parents are present. Ingley says. I don t think the general public really knows what it wants from its
criminal justice system, and in particular, how it wants to address the problem of youthful offenders in
our society (Brian, paragraph 17). The lack of family makes a great impact in these children s life
because it leads them to the misbehavior; for example, they do crimes, and also being disrespectful.
Furthermore, if many children are living with their families, the society would have another image
without any crimes, and many more problems that can make others suffer. Some of those kids ended
up in jail or prison actually is because the lack of parents. They are living for

Abstract . The learning process can occur because of the interaction between the individuals and the
learning environment autonomously or intentionally designed. T. A. I. is essentially a cooperative
learning model that divides learners heterogeneously, while snowball throwing models is a
cooperative learning type which is designed like a throwing ball game. This method aims to provoke
creativity in creating the problem as well as testing the mastery of material submitted by the group
leader. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) and

The Iowa State Teaching Standards
The Iowa State teaching standards helped me throughout student teaching, and prepared me to be an
effective classroom teacher. Through lesson planning, delivery, and reflection I was able to see how
the standards were interdependent with one another. A great lesson cannot be created only using one
standard, several standards should be used in every lesson I create as a teacher. Below I will explain
how the standards better prepared me for the classroom while interrelating them throughout student
teaching. During student teaching both of my placements were in math classrooms. With math being
my endorsement, having a strong understanding of the content and knowing different methods
(standards I XII) lead to success with my students As a future teacher, I believe these two standards
are the most important. I need to create learning experiences that are meaningful and age appropriate
for my students. I created a lesson for my 8th grade students that showed the importance of content
and methods of teaching. In this lesson, students had to solve questions involving the 8th grade math
standards, but the questions were made in puzzle pieces. Students had to match the question and
answers, making a shape once the problems were completed. This is called a tangram, which is a
concept students had learned in an earlier grade. This lesson used a variety of strategies and met the
needs of my diverse learners (standards III V). The puzzle pieces had students use creative thinking

Computer Hacking
Computer hacking is the practice of modifying computer hardware and software to accomplish a goal
outside of the creator s original purpose. People who engage in computer hacking activities are often
called hackers. Since the word hack has long been used to describe someone who is incompetent at
his/her profession, some hackers claim this term is offensive and fails to give appropriate recognition
to their skills.
Computer hacking is most common among teenagers and young adults, although there are many older
hackers as well. Many hackers are true technology buffs who enjoy learning more about how
computers work and consider computer hacking an art form. They often enjoy programming and have
expert level skills in one particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you are interested in protecting your home computer against malicious hackers, investing in a good
firewall is highly recommended. It s also a good idea to check your software programs for updates on
a regular basis. For example, Microsoft offers a number of free security patches for its Internet
Explorer browser.
Issues
A number of issues arise in considering hacking from the educator perspective. First, we need to
consider the fact that the public perception of hackers is mixed, and that hacking and being considered
a hacker can be quite appealing to students who are going through developmental periods in which
they are defining themselves, as well as challenging authority and rules. There is often a Robin Hood
mentality to early actions, though it is unclear exactly who the poor are, and how they are
beingcompensated . Second, the anonymity of actions which hackers perform against others often
enhances the severity of actions. For example, an adolescent who would never consider picking
someone s pocket or physically damaging someone else s property or home, might be quite willing to
steal people s credit card numbers or destroy poorly protected business or government files, since files
and credit card numbers are not tangible entities, and the damage is done anonymously.

Realistic and Magical Elements of A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings
A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings is a renowned short story written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
It was published in 1955. Gabriel Garcia Marquez was born and spent his childhood in Colombia but
has lived in Paris and Mexico. As for the work that made him famous, A Very Old Man with
Enormous Wings is considered by most an archetype of Magical Realism.
When reading A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, one comes across many elements of Magical
Realism. A good specimen of Magical Realism is the old man with wings. An old man is normal and
earthly. However, when wings are applied, what was once mundane becomes stereotype of Magical
Realism. What is most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A great example of how capitalism, being a realistic trait, is normally incorporated with all things.
Father Gonzaga is a realistic factor one must take into account. Religion is for the most part a realistic
matter. Even though religion itself is not proven, or always expectable, the fact remains that most
people look towards people of religion for guidance. This being the case Father Gonzaga, who is a
man of religion, would be considered a realistic element.
There is no purpose to the Magical Realism elements illustrated in A Very Old Man With Enormous
Wings . Let us keep in mind that in these Magical Realist works the author does not need to justify the
mystery of the events, as the fantastic writer has to (Leal 119 124). The events happening within
Gabriel Garcia Marquez s work flow unrestrained over the pages. The past events do not dictate the
future events. There is no avalanche effect in Marquez s short novel. Nothing depends or is decided on
one single event. Motions are carried out with out control or authority.
The characters involved in A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings treat the old man as an animal or
pest. Not aware of the possibility of a human having wings, they simply put the old man in a chicken
pen because he is a freak and an annoyance. The mere fact that the old man has wings would send
most people to their cellars because of a fear that the end of the world is near. As for the

Why A Trophy Should Not Be Allowed In School
I got my first trophy when I was in kindergarten when I played rec basketball. I wasn t outstanding, or
even that good. I got a trophy I probably didn t deserve. When kids know they will automatically get a
trophy, then they might not try as hard. If the kids don t try as hard they will let their team down.
Giving out participation trophies is a mistake because it wates money gives kids false sense of
achmplishments anddiminishes the value of winning a trophy.
In the United States alone, over three billion dollars is spent each year on trophies. If we did not spend
the three billion on trophies, we could spend it somewhere else. When kids get a trophy for
everything, then they will expect one for everything they do. On most teams there

Self Concept Is Our Self Identity Essay
Self concept is our self identity, and is the way that one perceives itself, it includes both attitudes and
the collection of beliefs. Self Concept also branches out into self image and self esteem. Self image, is
the way the person pictures itself. The self esteem is the way we evaluate ourselves. We identify
ourselves by our communication, and our interactions with others. In other words I think, therefore I
am (René Descartes; ego cogito, ergo sum ) If a person was to tell another person what they think they
look like, odds are that that person may view himself as what the other person thinks/views him as. It
could either raise or lower the self esteem of the person, it could also enhance the way we view
ourselves, depending on the type of people the person associates, communicates and experience
interactions with them. If a person associates himself or herself with educated people, he or she will
most likely feel respected. If he or she associates with people of less morals, odds are that that person
may just have a lower self esteem and self image compared to the person that hangs around overall
good people.
It is believed that developing a self concept is essential to perform well in the work place. A work
place involves a constant interaction between its workers and environment, communication. Believe it
or not communication and self esteem are related, we perceive ourselves based on our own
experiences and communication with others. The people one is surrounded by

mythological creatures, an evil force with great magic powers, and some kind of journey that the main

MARKETING PLAN:
Most are doers and not planners . If we want to do the right marketing activities in the right way we
must start with a marketing plan. For that, marketing planning must be continuously undertaken to see
any shifting market conditions, changing customer needs, competitive threats as well as potential
opportunities.
MARKETING MIX:
Consists of the following 4 elements (Ps ):
Product Price Place (distribution) Promotion
These 4 Ps are the parameters that the marketing managers can control, subject to the internal and

Mario Puzo: Introduction
Mario Puzo was an American Screenwriter and Author who is best known for his Novel which was
later adapted into one of the most famous movie series of all times The Godfather.
Mario Puzo was born on October 15,1920 in an area of New York known as Hell s Kitchen. Mario s
Father was an illiterate and poor immigrant who abandoned Mario and his mother during Mario s
early teens as he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was institutionalized. Mario s mother wanted
Mario to be a railroad clerk but Mario had took a liking to visiting the libraries and read different

Puzo s early novels, The Dark Arena and The Fortunate Pilgrim, exhibit the realistic narrative style
typical of his later fiction and are considered minor classics of Italian American literature. The Dark
Arena talks about an American soldier who came back to a occupied Germany after the Second World
War. Introducing the theme of violent retribution, Puzo s protagonist kills a black market drug supplier
to show his rage at government , corruption in postwar Europe, and his own failure to secure
lifesaving medication for his German girlfriend. In The Fortunate Pilgrim, Puzo takes us to Hell s
kitchen and talks about the experiences of an Italian woman who struggles to surmount poverty and
crime. Though extolling her courage, cunning, and traditional values Puzo s description of petty
criminal activity in the poor Italian American neighbourhood offers ironic justification for the life of
crime as an alternate means of achieving the American Dream. The themes that are central to Mario
Puzos Godfather are criminal legitimacy and revenge, in which Puzo chronicles the ascent of the
Corleone Mafia family under the leadership of Don Vito Corleone, a criminal mastermind, and his
sons. Drawing parallels to American corporate structure, Don Vito s benevolent authority is founded
on supreme organizational control, calculated judgment, and swift retaliation against all enemies of
the family, including traitors and the incompetent within the clan as well as members of opposing
factions. In The Godfather Puzo begins to explore the dubious status of organized crime as a self
sufficient social entity governed by its own hallowed customs and rigid codes of behavior, particularly
personal honour and loyalty. The Sicilian is regarded as a sequel to The Godfather, Puzo revisits the
Corleone family.

The Pueblo Revolt Of 1680
From an evangelical standpoint, the 20,000 Native American Christian converts by 1675 and the
establishment of 36 churches in a new land is progress for the church. However, from a native
perspective, conversion may be seen as a submissive last resort and sad desertion of traditional,
shamanistic beliefs. Priests often destroyed idolatrous statues/buildings that can be viewed as
testaments to years of cultural development of a belief system. (Also, in addition to conversion, they
had to become Spaniard by culture (dress, language, etc.) and therefore give up their native identity.
The Pueblo revolt of 1680 caused major setbacks for the Spanish empire in Mexico, counteracting
years of progress and wasted money and resources. However,

Dental offices have less patients when the economy is lower and the amount of jobs that patients hold
is low. This is because when jobs are lost and money is low the patient s place priority on other

down as most patients carry insurances through their employer. Since 2013 a great recession has

Evaluation of Murder
A good law should be clear so both the judge and jury can apply it in a reasonable way, this makes it
easier for the jury to follow and provides a consistent outcome. It should be consistent, if not one
person could do exactly the same crime as another and they could have completely different sentences.
Consistency makes the law fair which is another important element of a good law. The law should
reflect the degree of fault and punish the defendant in a suitable way; this also provides justice for the

In Omissions the duty in certain relationships is solely case law, this means you must wait for a case to
happen before you can know whether a duty exists. This means the law might be flexible but it is not
consistent. A possible reform would be to pass legislation setting out the situation where a duty exists.
However, it would be difficult to come up with a definitive list. The law commission report in 1993
suggests only omissions would count in serious offences against a person.
For the mens rea there is a problem with the wording, malice aforethought either expressed or implied
. Lord Gibbord 1988 said malice aforethought was misleading as you don t need to have malice (i.e.
spite) or aforethought (i.e. planned or premeditated). The Mens Rea for murder is interpreted as an
intention to kill or cause GBH. This is a common law definition and is subject to change, making it
flexible but also causing uncertainty.
There are problems with intention also because it has never properly been defined and cases like
Moloney and Hyam only set out guidelines and judges tend to alter between the two. This causes
confusion and uncertainty and leads to jury s verdicts being unfair and inconsistent. It also means that
the decision is opened up and leads to members of the jury being influenced by personal prejudices.
The mens rea of implied malice means a defendant can be convicted

The Perception Of Human Communication
Prejudice, Stereotype, and how they affect listening
Often humans form opinions about one another that may hinder them from listening to a particular
group or person effectively. Two ways listening can be impaired is by stereotypes and prejudices
formed before a certain person even expresses themselves nonverbally or verbally. According to the
book Fundamentals of Human Communication the word stereotype is defined as: Rigid and usually
negative assumptions about personal and social qualities of people who are members of a particular
social category. (G 10) Another scholarly source confirms this definition by stating that a stereotype is
a fixed or over generalized belief about a particular group or class of people. (Cardwell, 1996) Over
the years people describe types of communication as stereotypical because it allows a communicator
to judge the outcome of a conversation before it even occurs. Stereotypes can sometimes be viewed as
advantageous in certain situations because it allows a communicator to judge an outcome of a
situation based on past situations. For example, if a mother has talked to a doctor previously about
how to treat a cold and his advice worked well, chances are she will stereotype what will take place
the next time she has a cold and consults a doctor before it even happened. On the other hand, in this
case stereotyping can be bad when you assume what the other communicator is going to say or do,
prejudging the outcome, and you are wrong.

The Importance of Education Essay
The Importance of Education
Education has always been a crucial part of society for the past centuries. Some believe that our
education is a privilege. Some believe that our education is a right. Some believe that our education is
an obligation. The only obligation we might have towards education is to treat it as a privilege as well
as a right, but certainly not an obligation to have an education. Education has been the basis for the
success we see in our parents, our teachers, and more importantly, ourselves.
Over time, people have considered and concluded that education is a privilege. Education is a
privilege because not many people can afford an education, and we should be grateful that we have
this opportunity that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is true because you cannot be denied an education based on your nationality, skin color, hair
color, or any physical features, even being handicapped. It is the right of the individual to seek an
education, as long as the individual is fully capable financially and mentally. Let say ?Melissa,? a
fictional fourteen year old African American girl, wants to attend Hinsdale Central. A fairly good
school, if I do say so myself, for a student to attend preceding college, as I have. Let?s say Hinsdale
Central refuses to let Melissa attend their school for various reasons, such as her skin color. It?s
Melissa?s constitutional right to contest this decision by the fact that the school denied her admittance
based on her skin color, which is discrimination. However, the school does not have to admit Melissa,
even though she is completely qualified. The individual does not have the right to an education, but
rather has the right to seek and education. The individual can only have a right to an education if the
school offering the education refuses them based on physical features.
What about obligations, is an education one of them? Education can be an obligation in a personal
way, but education is certainly not an obligation to receive in the general aspect. If a person feels
obligated about their education, they are most likely not going to be motivated. Motivation comes
from the parents, the teachers, and the

The Use of Irony in Barbara L. Greenberg s The Faithful Wife
The Use of Irony in Barbara L. Greenberg s The Faithful Wife
The Faithful Wife by Barbara L. Greenberg is a fascinating, satirical account of what the speaker
would do if she were unfaithful to her husband. Upon the first reading of this poem, I thought the
woman in this poem was saying that her husband was irreplaceable and because of that she would
never be unfaithful. Also I thought that if she did betray him, she would choose someone totally
different from him, which somehow wouldn t dishonor this great man. However, with repeated
reading, my opinion changed. Greenberg did an incredible job of revealing the truth of the situation.
She used verbal irony to explain how the wife in the poem is actually revealing the relationship ...

Instead, we would say something like We would eat at Howard Johnson s because you don t like it.
This more formal conversation and speaker s tone, which is condescending, suggests a detachment the
wife feels toward her husband.
Greenberg is so clever with the use of verbal irony throughout the poem. The wife is really being
sarcastic to her husband, in an attempt to reveal her desires that are evidently ignored. The main line
that triggered my understanding was, Not strong, not proud, not just, not provident, my lover would
blame me for his heart s distress, which you would never think to do (630). Once again, I initially
thought she was complimenting her husband and showing him great respect. This strong, proud, just
and provident man seemed perfect. However, the choice of words ...my lover would blame me for his
heart s distress... is what enlightened my thinking (630). The wife wanted to be so important to her
husband that she would be the only thing that causes him distress. She actually resents this prideful
man who seems to make everything else more important that her.
There is even irony in the poem s title, The Faithful Wife. Yes, the speaker is a faithful wife, but
because of duty not because of the desires of her heart. The desires of her heart are all the things she
says she and her lover would do. The message to her husband is that he is doing the complete opposite
of what she

Leadership Styles As A Public Administrator Essay
Introduction
This paper will discuss various aspects of a public leader. First, it will develop a brief overview of two
leaders and their leadership styles as a public administrator. Next, this paper will compare and contrast
the leadership styles of these two leaders. Also, it will determine three leadership strengths and
weaknesses of each of these leaders, as well as speculate on the effectiveness of each public leader in
terms of each of their successes. Finally, this paper will suggest one key strength that could influence
one s ability to be a public leader.
Examples of Charismatic Leaders
A fine example of a charismatic leader as a public administrator is Napoleon Bonaparte. As an officer
in the French army, he was smart, aggressive and fearless, and inspired great loyalty in just about
anyone he encountered. Additionally, his success was based on his instinctive knowledge of human
behavior, the most prominent of which was his ability to show appreciation to those who helped him
succeed through a rewards system. Furthermore, he realized it was imperative to win the trust of those
he was not leading to bolster their support. An avid speaker, he would inform citizens in the country in
which he was invading that he was not against them, but rather against their tyrannical leaders.
Eventually, Bonaparte s ego got the best of him, and he lost the respect he had garnered over years,
ending up exiled to the island of St. Helena (McManus, n.d., p. 2). Clearly,

Vivendi Vs Gameloft Case Study
4.2 Vivendi vs Gameloft
4.2.1 Overview
Vivendi is known for aggressively acquiring companies through financial pressure for some time now,
as observed with Havas (Vivendi, 2017), Dailymotion (Lunden, 2015) and buying CanalPlus s joint
owner s stakes (Keslassy, 2013). So as the trend goes, Vivendi wanted to return to the video game
industry and chose the largest mobile games developer, Gameloft, acquiring it through a hostile
takeover in 2016. The structure of the takeover as well as what caused it are detailed in further
sections.
4.2.2 The Process
In the October of 2015, Vivendi bought 6% shares in Gameloft and immediately within a week
increased it 10%, causing a small panic in Gameloft s upper management, issuing a public declaration
from Gameloft as well as its sister company Ubisoft, saying that Vivendi s involvement was quite
unwelcome (Morris, 2016) (cited in Nutt, 2016).
On February 2016, Vivendi again upped its share to 30%, forcing them to make a formal bid for
ownership of Gameloft according to the French Mergers and Acquisitions Law (Kerr, 2016), detailed
description of the law can be found in Appendix C. Although, proposition of the offer was mandatory
for Vivendi, Gameloft had no such reservations about accepting and it was made clear with their
statement, The offer launched by Vivendi has no strategic interest for Gameloft (cited from Nutt,
2016). After the initial rejection, Vivendi proposed to purchase all of Gameloft s share for a rate of €6
per share as opposed to the market price of €4, this was a fifty percent premium profit for all of
Gameloft s shareholders, but as bargaining goes the shareholders upped the offer to a rate of €8/share
which was double the stock price (Keslassy, 2016), ultimately leading Vivendi to reject the Michel
Guillemot s plea and acquiring Gameloft under its banner.
4.2.3 Causes of the Takeover
Moving on, to dissecting the acquisition, there are a few circumstances which were not directly in
Gameloft s yet were directly responsible for Vivendi s hostile takeover of Gameloft. They are detailed
below as follows:
Not So Big Fish In A Small Pond. Gameloft was a leading mobile developer with massive yearly
revenues, but this was only restricted to the video games

smartness and intelligence of the Dutch and their people, they most probably have a very high IQ :).

Difference Between A College Scholar And A Slacker
Let s face it, not all who choose to continue school past the 12th grade made the choice with the best
intentions in mind. When it comes the college, the next level of education after high school, students
who choose to attend will come from different nationalities, religions, and financial backgrounds, but
can almost always be classified into two categories the will define them during the collegiate journey.
Those categories are the scholars and the slackers. A college scholar is one who makes the best of their

Biography on Charles Dickens
This greatest of Victorian writers was born in Landport, Portsmouth, on February 7, 1812. His father
John worked as a clerk in the Navy Payroll Office in Portsmouth. The elder Dickens was transfered
several times, first to London, then to Chatham, and finally, in 1822, back to London, where the
family lived in Camden Town. John Dickens was constantly in debt, and in 1824 he was imprisoned in
Marshalsea debtor s prison (Southwark). Charles was forced to leave school at the age of 12 and go to
work in a bootblack factory to help support the Dickens family. It was his personal experience of
factory work and the living conditions of the poor that created in Dickens the compassion which was
to mark his literary works such as Oliver Twist. Dickens was released from the purgatory of Warren s
Blacking Factory when his father received a legacy from a relative, and could finally pay his debts and
be set free from Marshalsea. Charles went to Wellington House Academy for two years, then took
work at Gray s Inn as a clerk. Dickens worked as a Parliamentary reporter before finally moving on to
The Morning Chronicle in 1834. His first published work appeared in Monthly Magazine in December
1833, and he followed it with nine more, penning his name as Boz to the last two articles. The
pseudonym Boz was drawn from a pet name for his younger brother when they were children. In 1836
his articles were compiled and published as Sketches by Boz . Shortly after Boz was published,

Winter Descriptive Writing
It was a flurry and cold winter day, the kind of day when every breath stings the lungs and every

forever change Emily Kriz. My mother and I had just entered the frosted glass doors at our local
Michaels after having the usual tedious chat about keeping your hands to yourself and looking with
our eyes, not our hands. I acted as though I was listening, adding in subtle head nods as I watched
each individual snowflake fall crisply onto the ground, as if each had a strict road map to a anticipated
location. Upon entering, we saw a winter wonderland. The fragrance of frosted pine wafted through
the nipping air that had snuck in from the outdoors and tingled my petite fingers and toes. With every
blink of the eye there was something newfangled and wondrous to look at. It had seemed as though
Michaels was decorated for a gala, with only the finest and most stunning decorations on display, but
with every piece of pristine decor in is precise spot. We browsed the aisles, with each aisle as colorful
and exciting as the rest. We were nearing the end of the isles when I saw it, a display of candles that
drew my eyes in like no other. My mom had turned her cart down the aisle filled with all the eyeful
winter floral pieces, and at this moment I knew it was my time to do what I had been told not to, I
needed to reach out and smell one of those candles that had tunneled my vision. I

Similarities Between Rockefeller And Carnegie
Rockefeller and Carnegie had similar backgrounds. Carnegie was a Scottish immigrant. Being an
immigrant, he started off with little money. Rockefeller, while he was born and raised in the United
States, came from a poor family, as his father was an often struggling peddler, and his mother stayed at
home to raise the six children of the family. Both of them began working while they were struggling to
make ends meet, but ended as two of the richest men in America. The two were also similar in
business. Both (though Carnegie more than Rockefeller) used the method of giving bonuses and
partnerships to those workers who were innovative and efficient. Along with this, both believed that
cost cutting was the best was to ensure profits. Carnegie felt

Russolo Research Paper
Music has been around for a long time, and no one is really sure when it was invented; music has
always seemed to just be. But, since music has been given rules and explored as an art form, it has
been innovated and changed in ways that changed it forever. The invention and of electricity and
machines changed the way that music was approached, as much as exploring what a chord is.
Electricity also brought about a new, interesting genre of music; electronic music, which is any type of
music that is produced by a machine. By this definition, any sound that is run through a computer or
other machine is defined as electronic music if it was originally composed by that medium. The
development of this art form was interesting, as there were many ... Show more content on

They were ...a series of new instruments called intonarumori ( noise intoners ), divisible into six
timbral types: booms, whistles, whispers, screams, percussive sounds and vocal sounds (human and
animal) (Morgan 116). The intonarumori made sound by vibrating a stretched diaphragm, and the
variation of that speed was what made the tone and pitch of the sound change. Russolo created several
compositions for his instruments, which were received critically by the public. Although the ideals of
Russolo were very influential, neither his musical scores nor his intonarumori survived, which means
the assumption can be made that neither were of great interest to the musical world (Morgan 116 117).
Although Futurism did have a lasting impact in the world, as detailed in an article about Russolo and
his instruments, [y]et Futurism stands in the history of twentieth century music as the first clear
manifestation of a major and enduring concern: the relationship between new music and modern
technology. Although the Futurists apparently had no direct influence on subsequent compositional
developments, their wish to conquer the infinite variety of noise sound has remained a reoccurring
interest throughout the century (Morgan 117). Russolo s idea of combining noise into music was
absolutely pivotal to the development of electronic music,

  • 2. Moral Dilemma Project Examples Moral Dilemmas Project Each of the three prominent approaches to moral dilemmas carry with it various aspects with which I find affinity. For example, generally, each maintain the existence of many absolute moral norms, meaning that for these norms there are no exceptions or exemptions. Specifically, however, Non Conflicting Absolutism ( NCA ) highlights the Lord s sovereign rule and transcendence over creation in arguing that moral norms are birthed from the character and essence of God. For example, Isaiah 55:8 9 (NRSV) says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Reminding us, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paul declares to the Corinthians, No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it (I Cor. 10:13, NASB). Ideal Absolutist argue that one must choose the lesser of two evils, and as a result in these moral dilemmas one commits a sin and stands guilty before God however, this sin is pardonable. In other words, we ve made our beds in sin as humanity and now we must live in it. However, John and Paul Feinberg right note in their co authored book, Ethics for a Brave New World, Moral philosophers commonly agree that in assessing moral praise or blame for an action, one must consider whether the agent acted freely or not. The principle involved is: no one is morally guilty for failing to do what he could not do or for doing what he could not fail to do [emphasis added]. That is, moral responsibility presupposes freedom of action. Moral oughts imply that the agent can do his duty [emphasis added]. As such, guilt would not be imposed when moral conflicts arise simply because one simply cannot not feasibly obey both. One of the better and simplest metaphors of this is when two roads intersect, one must yield to the other we refer to this as the right of way . Feinberg and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Road To Genocide Essay This essay will review the documentary Road to Genocide where Christian paramilitaries in Central African Republic (CAR) carried out ethnic cleansing of the Muslim population during the state s ongoing civil war. At the very outset of this video, a crumbling Central Africa is portrayed with utter mayhem, horrendous acts of violence and human massacres. We will elaborate on how conflict in this particular context is accentuated with reference to its socio economic, cultural, historical and political factors. Digging into the root cause of conflict in CAR As a matter of fact, conflict is omnipresent and inevitable. People s reaction to conflict varies in different levels, it can be competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding or even accommodating (Thomas and Kilmann, 1974). In this video, the main conflict is between the Seleka (the Muslims) and the Anti Balaka (the Christians). Here, the blatant style is competing from the ends of the Anti Balaka, who assertively want the Muslims to leave the land at all cost; the Seleka on the other hand are hopelessly fleeing for their lives. The lack of parents presence and responsibilities make children become wild. These following points show how a child becomes feral: lack of family, lack of guidance, and lack of love. I don t think the general public really knows what it wants from its criminal justice system, and in particular, how it wants to address the problem of youthful offenders in our society (Brian, paragraph 17). The lack of family makes a great impact in these children s life because it leads them to the misbehavior; for example, they do crimes, and also being disrespectful. Through lesson planning, delivery, and reflection I was able to see how the standards were interdependent with one another. A great lesson cannot be created only using one standard, several standards should be used in every lesson I create as a teacher. Below I will explain how the standards better prepared me for the classroom while interrelating them throughout student teaching. During student teaching both of my placements were in math classrooms. With math being my endorsement, having a strong understanding of the content and knowing different methods (standards I XII) lead to success with my students As a future teacher, I believe these two standards are the most important. I need to create learning experiences that are meaningful and age appropriate for my students. I created a lesson for my 8th grade students that showed the importance of content and methods of teaching. In this lesson, students had to solve questions involving the 8th grade math standards, but the questions were made in puzzle pieces. Students had to match the question and answers, making a shape once the problems were completed. This is called a tangram, which is a concept students had learned in an earlier grade. This lesson used a variety of strategies and met the needs of my diverse learners (standards III V). The puzzle pieces had students use creative thinking and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s also a good idea to check your software programs for updates on a regular basis. For example, Microsoft offers a number of free security patches for its Internet Explorer browser. Issues A number of issues arise in considering hacking from the educator perspective. First, we need to consider the fact that the public perception of hackers is mixed, and that hacking and being considered a hacker can be quite appealing to students who are going through developmental periods in which they are defining themselves, as well as challenging authority and rules. There is often a Robin Hood mentality to early actions, though it is unclear exactly who the poor are, and how they are beingcompensated . Second, the anonymity of actions which hackers perform against others often enhances the severity of actions. For example, an adolescent who would never consider picking someone s pocket or physically damaging someone else s property or home, might be quite willing to steal people s credit card numbers or destroy poorly protected business or government files, since files and credit card numbers are not tangible entities, and the damage is done anonymously. Puzo s early novels, The Dark Arena and The Fortunate Pilgrim, exhibit the realistic narrative style typical of his later fiction and are considered minor classics of Italian American literature. The Dark Arena talks about an American soldier who came back to a occupied Germany after the Second World War. Introducing the theme of violent retribution, Puzo s protagonist kills a black market drug supplier to show his rage at government , corruption in postwar Europe, and his own failure to secure lifesaving medication for his German girlfriend. In The Fortunate Pilgrim, Puzo takes us to Hell s kitchen and talks about the experiences of an Italian woman who struggles to surmount poverty and crime. Though extolling her courage, cunning, and traditional values Puzo s description of petty criminal activity in the poor Italian American neighbourhood offers ironic justification for the life of crime as an alternate means of achieving the American Dream. The themes that are central to Mario Puzos Godfather are criminal legitimacy and revenge, in which Puzo chronicles the ascent of the Corleone Mafia family under the leadership of Don Vito Corleone, a criminal mastermind, and his sons. Drawing parallels to American corporate structure, Don Vito s benevolent authority is founded on supreme organizational control, calculated judgment, and swift retaliation against all enemies of the family, including traitors and the incompetent within the clan as well as members of opposing factions. In The Godfather Puzo begins to explore the dubious status of organized crime as a self sufficient social entity governed by its own hallowed customs and rigid codes of behavior, particularly personal honour and loyalty. The Perception Of Human Communication Prejudice, Stereotype, and how they affect listening Often humans form opinions about one another that may hinder them from listening to a particular group or person effectively. Two ways listening can be impaired is by stereotypes and prejudices formed before a certain person even expresses themselves nonverbally or verbally. According to the book Fundamentals of Human Communication the word stereotype is defined as: Rigid and usually negative assumptions about personal and social qualities of people who are members of a particular social category. (G 10) Another scholarly source confirms this definition by stating that a stereotype is a fixed or over generalized belief about a particular group or class of people. (Cardwell, 1996) Over the years people describe types of communication as stereotypical because it allows a communicator to judge the outcome of a conversation before it even occurs. Stereotypes can sometimes be viewed as advantageous in certain situations because it allows a communicator to judge an outcome of a situation based on past situations. For example, if a mother has talked to a doctor previously about how to treat a cold and his advice worked well, chances are she will stereotype what will take place the next time she has a cold and consults a doctor before it even happened. On the other hand, in this case stereotyping can be bad when you assume what the other communicator is going to say or do, prejudging the outcome, and you are wrong. ... She went on to state that her maid was an ignorant girl born on the plantation and would never do anything to injure her owners. Some sources state that Mary Bowser used the name Ellen Bond a servant of Confederate First Lady Varnia Davis, while she was in the Confederate White House and tried to burn the house down as she escaped at the end of the war. • 27. The Use of Irony in Barbara L. Greenberg s The Faithful Wife The Use of Irony in Barbara L. Greenberg s The Faithful Wife The Faithful Wife by Barbara L. Greenberg is a fascinating, satirical account of what the speaker would do if she were unfaithful to her husband. Upon the first reading of this poem, I thought the woman in this poem was saying that her husband was irreplaceable and because of that she would never be unfaithful. Also I thought that if she did betray him, she would choose someone totally different from him, which somehow wouldn t dishonor this great man. However, with repeated reading, my opinion changed. Greenberg did an incredible job of revealing the truth of the situation. She used verbal irony to explain how the wife in the poem is actually revealing the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, we would say something like We would eat at Howard Johnson s because you don t like it. This more formal conversation and speaker s tone, which is condescending, suggests a detachment the wife feels toward her husband. Greenberg is so clever with the use of verbal irony throughout the poem. The wife is really being sarcastic to her husband, in an attempt to reveal her desires that are evidently ignored. The main line that triggered my understanding was, Not strong, not proud, not just, not provident, my lover would blame me for his heart s distress, which you would never think to do (630). Once again, I initially thought she was complimenting her husband and showing him great respect. This strong, proud, just and provident man seemed perfect. However, the choice of words ...my lover would blame me for his heart s distress... is what enlightened my thinking (630). The wife wanted to be so important to her husband that she would be the only thing that causes him distress. She actually resents this prideful man who seems to make everything else more important that her. There is even irony in the poem s title, The Faithful Wife. Yes, the speaker is a faithful wife, but because of duty not because of the desires of her heart. The desires of her heart are all the things she says she and her lover would do. The message to her husband is that he is doing the complete opposite of what she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Leadership Styles As A Public Administrator Essay Introduction This paper will discuss various aspects of a public leader. First, it will develop a brief overview of two leaders and their leadership styles as a public administrator. Next, this paper will compare and contrast the leadership styles of these two leaders. Also, it will determine three leadership strengths and weaknesses of each of these leaders, as well as speculate on the effectiveness of each public leader in terms of each of their successes. Finally, this paper will suggest one key strength that could influence one s ability to be a public leader. Examples of Charismatic Leaders A fine example of a charismatic leader as a public administrator is Napoleon Bonaparte. As an officer in the French army, he was smart, aggressive and fearless, and inspired great loyalty in just about anyone he encountered. Additionally, his success was based on his instinctive knowledge of human behavior, the most prominent of which was his ability to show appreciation to those who helped him succeed through a rewards system. Furthermore, he realized it was imperative to win the trust of those he was not leading to bolster their support. An avid speaker, he would inform citizens in the country in which he was invading that he was not against them, but rather against their tyrannical leaders. Eventually, Bonaparte s ego got the best of him, and he lost the respect he had garnered over years, ending up exiled to the island of St. Helena (McManus, n.d., p. 2). Clearly, ... • 29. Vivendi Vs Gameloft Case Study 4.2 Vivendi vs Gameloft 4.2.1 Overview Vivendi is known for aggressively acquiring companies through financial pressure for some time now, as observed with Havas (Vivendi, 2017), Dailymotion (Lunden, 2015) and buying CanalPlus s joint owner s stakes (Keslassy, 2013). So as the trend goes, Vivendi wanted to return to the video game industry and chose the largest mobile games developer, Gameloft, acquiring it through a hostile takeover in 2016. The structure of the takeover as well as what caused it are detailed in further sections. 4.2.2 The Process In the October of 2015, Vivendi bought 6% shares in Gameloft and immediately within a week increased it 10%, causing a small panic in Gameloft s upper management, issuing a public declaration from Gameloft as well as its sister company Ubisoft, saying that Vivendi s involvement was quite unwelcome (Morris, 2016) (cited in Nutt, 2016). On February 2016, Vivendi again upped its share to 30%, forcing them to make a formal bid for ownership of Gameloft according to the French Mergers and Acquisitions Law (Kerr, 2016), detailed description of the law can be found in Appendix C. Although, proposition of the offer was mandatory for Vivendi, Gameloft had no such reservations about accepting and it was made clear with their statement, The offer launched by Vivendi has no strategic interest for Gameloft (cited from Nutt, 2016). After the initial rejection, Vivendi proposed to purchase all of Gameloft s share for a rate of €6 per share as opposed to the market price of €4, this was a fifty percent premium profit for all of Gameloft s shareholders, but as bargaining goes the shareholders upped the offer to a rate of €8/share which was double the stock price (Keslassy, 2016), ultimately leading Vivendi to reject the Michel Guillemot s plea and acquiring Gameloft under its banner. 4.2.3 Causes of the Takeover Moving on, to dissecting the acquisition, there are a few circumstances which were not directly in Gameloft s yet were directly responsible for Vivendi s hostile takeover of Gameloft. They are detailed below as follows: Not So Big Fish In A Small Pond. Gameloft was a leading mobile developer with massive yearly revenues, but this was only restricted to the video games ...
