Analysis Of The Book The Things They Carried
1. Birth October 1, 1946; present 2. The things they carried was written in the late 1980 s and
published in 1990. The novel acts as a response to the era it discusses by solidifying the un
generalized version of war through fictional anecdotes from the narrator and characters. The truth is
never portrayed through historic context or media, and with this novel, the author was able to
reciprocate the emotions felt by soldiers from the graphic scenes or actions envisioned/written. 3.
Factors that influenced the author to publish this novel was partly due to his way of coping after war,
using stories to keep the imagination alive and causing the audience to reflect on their own lives.
Another is telling an honest view of the what war really is and how the soldiers were affected from the
start of being drafted until life after the Vietnam War, trying to find their identity. 4. The novel version
I used was paperback. To complete this section, I used websites for articles about O Brien s biography,
interviews from the author himself, and different analysis of the novel as my sources to understand the
varied perspectives.
II. Diction: 1. The diction for this novel is connotative. Although his writing can be straightforward
and literal, his reflection can provide varied meanings to what his ideas are. The author often changes
literary devices to get his point across. In one chapter, he can be specific on the little details that
depicts one s entity and then he can take

The Breakdown Of The Traditional Family Division Of...
During the late 20th century, the world has witnessed all sorts of social and technological changes due
to globalisation (Bologun, Sutherland and Oswick, 2015). In fact, the breakdown of the traditional
family division of labour, instant communication through technology, and the increased complexity of
organisational objectives have favour gender equality and diversity. Those changes have pressure
companies to improve their work structure to be more competitive and to the extent that the idea of an
effective leadership has come under pressure to change too. Indeed, organisations have become less
hierarchical and more decentralised networks where the traditional source of power erode, and talents
instead of nepotism are rewarded (Klein, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They found out that female and male leaders have equal concern for the task. However, women
manifest more concern for an interpersonal relationship than men (Eagly and Johannesen‐Schmidt,
2001). Moreover, using Blake and Mouton (1964) framework, women show a more democratic (or
participative) style, which facilitates collaboration, and less autocratic (or directive) style, that don t
enhance followers creativity. Thus, according to the contemporary standard, women manifested more
appropriate traits for being an effective leader.
Furthermore, Eagly and Carli (2003) also conclude that female leader were more transformational and
applied contingent reward behaviours which is one of transactional leadership component. Conversely,
male leaders were more likely to involve two other aspects of transactional leadership which are active
management by exception (waiting for a follower s mistake to corrected it) and passive management
by exception (waiting for issues to become severe before solving it). Men also show a relatively high
interest in laissez faire leadership. That different categorization of leadership style became popular by
Burns in 1978 and then Bass in 1985. Transformational leadership intellectually stimulate and inspire

Conflicting Opinions Over the Popular Front Government in...
After the ruling of the corrupt King Alfonso XIII and the horrible massacre the army faced when it
was sent to Spanish Morocco, the progressive Popular Front government was elected. In 1936, with
the promise of land reform, the conservative forces gathered to plan for resistance. The Spanish left
wing, on the other hand, celebrated the elections so joyfully that made the conservative military
officers, capitalists and churchman worried that a much broader reform would begin. Rumors of
plotting for a military coup led the Republicans to send high ranking military officers to remote
postings in order to make communication and coordination between them more challenging. However,
it was not enough, the planning for a military uprising continued. When the military coup failed to
gain control of the entire country, the civil war started between the Nationalists and the Republicans.
The Nationalists received aid from Italy ( at the time, fascist and under the control of *******) and
from the Nazi Germany. The Republicans, however, received aid from the Soviet Union and from the
International Brigades (composed of volunteers from Europe and the United States). The war was the
result of the polarization of the Spanish life and politics that developed over the previous decades
since it s monarchic government. Roman Catholics, businessman and landowners were the most
notable components of the Nationalist side. At the time, the Republic was considered to be a danger to

Example Of A Political Cartoon
c. In this political cartoon, there is an American citizen depicted in both 2008 and 2016 expressing his
views of that year s president elect. In 2008, the citizen says, Anyone can become president, and
Barack Obama is pictured by his side. The citizen is grinning, looking at President Obama with wide
eyes and excitement. Alongside that depiction, the citizen is again shown in 2016. He is saying again,
Anyone can become president, however this time Donald Trump is standing by his side. This time the
citizen is sad and looks disappointed.
d. The cartoonist of this political cartoon is demonstrating the views of many American people after
Donald Trump was elected president compared to their views when Barack Obama was elected. In
2008, most were excited that we would have the first African American president. It showed, like the
citizen in the cartoon is saying, that anyone can become president in the United States. It demonstrated
the large racial barrier that was broken by Obama ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cartoonist in this political cartoon is clearly depicting the brutality and aftermath of this election.
By showing Hillary and Trump with bruises and cuts each of their own, it shows that each of them
took violent swings at the other. This means that they each were nasty to each other during the election
and made some pretty big impacts on the other s campaign. By showing Uncle Sam, who is in a USA
Democracy shirt, being the most beat up out of the three of them, it shows how America and the
American government has taken the biggest beating of them all during this election. American
democracy has been seriously wounded by this election because of the harshness of each of the
candidates and the illegitimacy of each of them as well. Both of them have not been a good and
genuine example of what the American democracy calls for in a leader. The point of view of the
cartoonist is that both Trump and Hillary hurt each other during the campaign, however they hurt

Solution Focused Therapy And Rational Emotive Therapy
In the three introductory sessions that took place with my client Jean, I practiced Solution Focused
Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, and Humanistic Therapy. In this paper I would like to compare
and contrast Solution Focused Therapy and Rational Emotive Therapy as the primary techniques used
in the introductory therapy sessions with my client. I have enjoyed practicing all three types of therapy
in my three sessions with Jean, but felt that these two were the most prominent to reflect upon in this
paper. Through our Introduction to Counseling class and our textbook readings I have learned
numerous aspects about the various schools of therapy. I have enjoyed watching Solution Focused
Therapy and Rational Emotive into action ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be unintentionally making it harder to get over the relationship s ending.
There are several questions that the text informs us that we should be mindful of when we are
practicing Solution Focused Brief Therapy. The questions that we should ask include, but are not
limited to:
What brings you here?
What s already changing? Suppose a miracle happens?
What else will be different after the miracle?
How is the miracle happening even a little?
On a scale from zero to ten (how close are you to 10)?
What else can be done?
In my introductory counseling sessions I was able to ask my client several of these questions. In my
introductory session I asked Jean what brought her to speak with me. Note taking is to be done after
the first session unless you are writing down positive things to reinforce back to the client. There is
only a break in the first session if needed, anything else would be inappropriate. After my first session
I was able to reflect on our notes in preparation for my second session. In my second session with her
I asked her what else could be done in regard to making her comfortable to speaking with
professionals in the future. As Jean was thinking about goals I also asked her to tell me what else had
been changing since the beginning sessions. They questions really helped me to gain perspective
through the client s eyes.

1.0 INTRODUCTION Criminal Law attempts to balance the rights of individuals to freedom from
interference with person or property, and society s need for order. Procedure matters, the rights of
citizens and powers of the state, specific offences and defences, and punishment and compensation are
some of the ways society and the criminal justice system are kept intact. The Queensland Law Society
is interested in finding to what extent the criminal justice system is successfully balancing the rights of
individuals with society s need for order. This report will highlight research and explain the law and
how it is applied to the age of Criminal Responsibility. It will then evaluate whether the law is
successfully achieving fair and just outcomes for the stake holders involved and make appropriate
recommendations for change.

Anti-Aging Benefits Of The Mediterranean Diet
Anti Aging Benefits of Mediterranean Diet
September 15, 2016
Jonathan Swift said, Everybody wants to live forever, but nobody wants to grow old.
Wouldn t it be nice? If we could stay healthy and young, living as long as possible would be great.
Because that is a deep down desire of the majority, many people are always on a quest to slow down
the aging process.
So, our question for today is: What are the Anti Aging Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet?
First, we must acknowledge that no diet in the world can halt or slow the aging process. Aging is
inevitable and food is not the elixir of life although the type of food you choose can lengthen or
shorten your life.
What has been proven by numerous studies is that the Mediterranean diet ... Show more content on

People eat whatever is the most convenient with little regard for their health. This is very upsetting
and dangerous for the population as a whole.
There is a wide assumption that healthy food is not delicious. They believe that they must live on a
steady diet of raw carrots and steamed chicken breasts and decide that is not for them. They would
much rather have a fast food burger and cheese fries instead it s easier and tastier.
What they don t know is that the Mediterranean Diet is filled with DELICIOUS AND HEALTHY
food, which is why people in the Mediterranean Region are often healthier and live longer lives than
Americans.
The foundation of the Med Diet is fresh vegetables. In the US, vegetables are typically an
afterthought, with unhealthy choices like fried potatoes being classified as vegetables.
When you make vegetables the center of your meals, you will get your daily dose of antioxidants to
fight the free radicals in your body; plus give your body necessary nutrients and keep your skin
healthy and supple.
Fruit is another important part of the Med diet. They are filled with nutrients and rich in fiber, which
slows down digestion so you do not get hungry as quickly. The fruit also prevents sugar

Research Paper On Edward Snowden
Interest sparked when Edward Snowden NSA contractor publicly disclosed a large number of
classified documents that are about U.S. government, implemented massive surveillance program
toward American citizens and foreign countries. This incident was viewed as the most significant leak
in America history and of course it has caused sensation worldwide. However, privacy issue doesn t
easily raise general public s attention due to it seems like don t bring substantial bad consequence or
effect our lives a lot. After Snowden escaped to Russia, different people called him traitor
whistleblower, dissident, and even a hero. Consequently, there has been a fierce debate about whether
he should be punished by law or be protected as hero of whistleblower. ... Show more content on

But I had no idea which side I should stand on. Because I was have been told I should be an honest
man from the time I was a kid, so I think Snowden should tell the public the truth about what he know.
Snowden is absolutely obeys the law if he unveils government misdeed in public, in this case, he
should be exempt from punishment by the American government. But my concern is whether these
leaked information gives terrorists and other enemy countries advantage because they get to know
how to avoid detection by the American government. In this case, Snowden s actions harms the
national security. However, NSA eavesdrop peoples phone calls and Internet can be justifiable under
certain circumstances. For example, the surveillance program can detect the terrorists, in consequence
prevent people from terrorism attack. In order to figure out who is wrong and who is right, I should do
more research about what they did. Next, I attempt to find valuable information about American
government s intelligence gathering policies to scrutinize whether the policies are useful or
dysfunctional that should be reformed. I found a book named Spying In America in the Post 9/11
World: Domestic Threat and the Need for Change . The author Ronald Marks is a former senior CIA
official and his expertise lies in Cyber security and Homeland Security intelligence. He is very

Insulation Essay

Review of Literature
Insulate to cover, line, or separate with a material that prevents or reduces the passage, transfer, or
leakage of heat, electricity, or sound (Insulate ,2015, pg.1). In this experiment insulation is the main
topic. Insulation is used in many things: a house, a refrigerator, walls, clothing, and types of drinking
cups. Installation can be made of materials like styrofoam, plastic, and fiberglass. These can be used to
keep things hot or cold. Insulation is most commonly for heat and maintaining heat energy. This
experiment tests the insulation of several cups and how they keep liquids hot. Each cup used in the
experiment has some insulation. The cups have different amounts of insulation. Each of these cups are
generally used as insulators for many liquids.
Insulation slows the process of heat leaving an object. Most insulation contains lots of air spaces. The
air spaces slow the flow of heat leaving the object because the heat takes longer to travel through the
air spaces. Insulation is a material or substance that is used to stop heat, electricity, or sound from
going into or out of something (Insulation, 2015, pg. 1). Insulation is commonly thought of in ... Show

Nursing accounts for approximately 75% of the use of the chart and this clinical documentation is the
method used to communicate the patient s treatment plan and progress (Nelson, 2010). Since nurses
perform a large part of this documentation, they are vital to evaluate these templates to ensure the
system will allow the documentation required and that it is presented in a useful manner. They also
will be key players in assisting with the integration of the EHR into the clinical workflow for the
physician. The nurse is the most knowledgeable in the clinical workflows and inefficiencies in the
current workflow. He or she will be acutely aware the functionality or limitations of the system and its
ability to accommodate the practice patterns of the providers and the various workflows. Physicians
rely on the information they need to be in the chart when they need it and often are unaware of the
steps involved to get it there. This is where the nurse is invaluable in identifying all of the background
tasks required to achieve this. Lastly, obtaining nurse buy in is vital to facilitating clinicians to become

Maintain Homeostasis
Homeostasis is the process of maintaining and regulating the body s own internal condition and is
extremely critical for proper body function; without it we could die. To maintain homeostasis, our
body has created a system of positive and negative feedback loops that are controlled in the brain
(specifically the hypothalamus in most mammals). This occurs when the product or output of
something, like ion concentration, blood calcium or glucose levels, change in response to the body
telling itself there s too little or too much of it. A positive feedback loop will increase the output, or
product, as a result of an amplified reaction to make it happen faster. A negative feedback loop, on the
other hand, is the reduction of a product to lower it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done to regulate the onset of hypertrophic chondrocytes. First, the process starts off when the
cranial neural cells proliferate and condense to make nodules in response to bone morphogenic protein
(BMP) signals from the head epidermis. High levels of BMPs will make cartilage from the nodules.
Low levels of BMP will produce pre osteoblast progenitor cells that express the Runx2 transcription
factor and mRNA for collagens 2 and 4. These cells will eventually downregulate Runx2 and begin
expressing the osteopontin gene making it look like a cartilage cell, hence the name chondrocyte like
osteoblast. IHH and PTHrP will start receiving negative feedback signals telling them to stop
chondrocyte differentiation. PTHrP, which is secreted from perichondrial cells and chondrocytes at the
end of long bones, acts on receptors of the chondrocyte to keep them proliferating and delay the
production of IHH. IHH is in charge of coordinating endochondral bone growth. IHH will induce
patch and Gli proteins to then initiate synthesis of PTHrP, which will block the recruitment of more
chondrocytes and reducing bone

Kantian Ethics And The Land Ethic
There are many portrayals of the apocalypse in modern media, depicting gory battles and desperate
fights for life. But what people don t consider is what happens after the initial destruction of
civilization. For Joe, that is the world he lives in. Joe, has managed to become the only human to
survive the apocalypse, and now lives the rest of his days by himself. Eventually and inevitably, Joe
becomes bored, and in his post apocalyptic boredom, he decides to go on a quest to kill all animals
and plants left on earth. On the basis of Kantian ethics, Joe killing all livings things on Earth is
morally correct. The first reason this is considered right is because Kantian ethics follows the
Principle of Humanity. The Principle of Humanity states: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Land Ethic states that an action is right if it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of
the biotic community (leopold 6). The biotic community includes soils, waters, plants, and animals
(Leopold 2) . When the Land Ethic is applied to Joe s action of killing all plants and animals, he is
committing a huge violation because he is not maintaining the balance and beauty of the land, instead
he is doing the exact opposite and destroying it by killing all living things. He is also ignoring the
holistic principle of the Land Ethic meaning that humans are a members of the biotic community, not
rulers (Leopold 2). When Joe decided to kill all living plants and animals, he made his choice not as
an equal member of the biotic, but as a superior being. He also broke the Second Second Order
Principle. The Second Second Order Principle says that stronger interests take priority over weaker
interests (Callicott 86). Stronger interests include things needed for basic survival while weaker
interests include less important needs or wants (Callicott 87). In Joe s case, the plants and animals will
to survive would be more important than his lack of entertainment. Because of this, Joe broke the
Second Second Order Principle, and therefore violated the Land Ethic again. With this being said,
according to the Land Ethic Joe was wrong, both when he decided that he was above the rest of the
biotic community, that fixing his boredom was more important than the lives of all living organisms,
and when ruined the stability, integrity, and beauty of the land by killing all living plants and

The Crucible Danforth s Downfall Essay
Responsible? The Salem Tragedy of 1692 was a cumulative downfall, wherein no singular person was
responsible, but instead everybody was in his or her own way. At this time in history the people of
Massachusetts were like dominos, rigidly set up in lines across the board, but all too close for comfort.
So close to the tipping point, that one small factor would send them all hurtling over the edge. Though
the Salem tragedy was a group effort, one such member played a higher role in the destruction. Judge
Danforth, the epitome of theocracy at the time believed you were either for God, or you were not, and
there was no road in between. This quickly caused destruction as the system of society began to turn
on itself. Those who did not know their commandments were assumed to be cavorting with the devil,
and Judge Danforth, power hungry with lynchings, called all the shots. It is evident when he says, And
do you know that near to 400 are in jail from Marblehead to Lynn, and upon my signature?... And 72
condemned to hang by that signature? (Danforth, Act 3), that all the weight of his signature has gone
to his head, and he has begun to regard himself higher than most. Perhaps if Danforth had been less
greedy and more open, he would have heard the truth in Proctor s words when he told about the girls
decept. However, instead of listening, he asserted his dominance and power, and instead went on to

Prevention is necessary to control many problems in the Chesapeake Bay. Prevention can range from
something as big as a government issue or as small as a single person helping out. The greatest chance

How Does Hal Change In King Henry Iv Part 1
Hal is often referred to as the prodigal son of Shakespeare s King Henry IV Part I. Wasteful and lazy,
Hal is seen more often drinking in a tavern or robbing others than serving as the next king of England,
though he claims that to be all an act in Act I Scene II, where he promises to redeem himself.
However, this claim seems dubious at best, Hal immediately going to then play a trick on Falstaff and
rob him. However, things seem to change in Act III Scene II. In this scene, King Henry IV has called
his son to his castle to discuss the future of England and how Hal is acting less like a prince, and more
like the wretched King Richard II, who Henry IV disposed to take the throne. Hal replies to his father,
promising that he will redeem himself in his father s eyes and in the eyes of the English noblemen by
killing Hotspur, one of the leaders of the rebellion against the king. This speech marks a major
character shift in Hal and his motivations shift from drinking and lounging about, to that of
redemption and honor through battle. This character shift is seen through many literary devices, such
as the religious and familial diction, the personification of Hal s actions, and the juxtaposition between
Hotspur and Hal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Comparison of Flood Stories
Comparison of Flood Stories There have been numerous flood stories identified from ancient sources
throughout the world. The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but also share
differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood accounts.
Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man.
The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who asked
God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible,
God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was upon
it because of man s wickedness. In Gilgamesh the flood comes to Utnapishtim in a ... Show more

The Bible states that Noah took only his family members and two of each animal. In the Epic of
Gilgamesh it is said that Utnapishtim took not only family members but others as well including
craftsmen and a pilot for the boat. Utnapishtim also took some of every species of animal with him
because he was told to do so in his dream.
The source of the waters and the duration of the excursions were not the same. The Bible states that it
rained for forty days and forty nights with the water coming from heavy rain and ground water. It also
says that after Noah landed on a mountain it took a long time for the Earth to dry up. During this time
Noah sent out a raven and three doves until the last of the three doves did not return and then he knew
the land was dry. In Gilgamesh the rain only lasted for six days and six nights and after stopping on
the mountain the land did not take as long to dry up. Utnapishtim also sent out birds to see if the water
was still standing but he sent out a dove, a swallow, and a raven. When the raven did not return
Utnapishtim knew the Earth was clean. Both Noah and Utnapishtim made sacrifices at the end of the
flood and both were blessed but in different ways. Noah was told his family was blessed and to go out
and multiply while Utnapishtim was made a god and given eternal life.

Red Hunting Hat Symbolism In Catcher In The Rye
Symbolism, in literature, is an extremely effective technique. Symbolism helps create a deeper and
more complex meaning to a story. In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, the novel s protagonist,
Holden Caulfield is portrayed as an adolescent boy trying to understand who he is supposed to be. He
is at an extremely vulnerable time in his life since he has just been kicked out of Pencey Prep and
doesn t want his parents to find out. He makes the ultimate decision to leave the school before he is
officially kicked out and chooses to begin a new life of independence. The red hunting hat is an
extremely important symbol because it gives him a sense of protection and the ability to feel
invincible, when wearing it. Throughout the novel, the red hunting hat shows up in many main events
that happen to him during his new life as an independent person. Ultimately, the red hunting hat helps
him feel protected in a world of the unknown. Not only does the red hat symbolize protection, it also
represents Holden s uniqueness. The red hat is not a common article of clothing and it helps Holden
represent his own personal originality. In the beginning of the novel, Holden was informed that he had
been kicked out of his school, Pencey Prep. At this time, Holden was at a very vulnerable point in his
life. He did not know what he was supposed to do since he did not want his parents to find out. The
red hunting hat was introduced into the novel when he got off the subway in New York. It was the red
hunting hat, with one of those very, very long peaks. I saw it in the window of this sports store when
we got out of the subway, just after I noticed i d lost all the goddamn foils. It only cost me a buck. The
way I wore it, I swung the old peak way around to the back very corny I ll admit, but I liked it that
way (Salinger 21). This quote shows that the minute he saw the hunting hat in the store window it
gave him a sense of comfort and protection. When he bought the hat, he was in a vulnerable state
when he had forgotten the equipment on the subway. The hat gave him the ability to feel protected
from the disappointment he felt when he let his team down. The significance of the way he turned his
hat around is also important.

Essay On Gratitude Is A Natural Anti-Depressant
Studies have found that regularly practicing gratitude has a positive effect on the firing of our brain
neurons, by way of activating positive emotion centers, ultimately changing our brain chemistry. It s
similar to forging a new path when walking through a wooded area. The first few times may be a bit
challenging and we have to be calculated and deliberate, but the more we travel the path, the clearer it
is and easier it becomes to follow. This change in brain chemistry leads to a heightened well being in
all realms mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social. When these positive emotion centers are
activated, Dopamine and Serotonin are produced and have similar effects to many anti depressants. In
other words, gratitude is a natural anti depressant. Research has shown that consciously focusing on

Stock Split
EFFECTS OF STOCK SPLIT
Introduction
The purpose of this research paper is information retrieval regarding stock split practice in a modern
stock market, its major reasons and valuation effects on the company s financial position.
According to the definition stock split is a method commonly used to lower the market price of a firm
s stock by increasing the number of shares belonging to each shareholder. Companies are able to split
their stocks in any number of ways. The most common stock splits are, 2 for 1, 3 for 2 and 3 for 1. For
example, if you own 100 shares of a company that trades at $100 a share and it declares a 2 for 1 stock
split, you will own a total of 200 shares at $50 a share after the split. It is also possible to have a ...

For example, one year ago a single share of Berkshire Hathaway cost around $101,000 per share and
was the first stock to ever hit a six digit share price. Berkshire Hathaway is not going to split their
stocks and not interesting to make the price more affordable for small investors because these stocks
are not for common people. These stocks are designed for very wealthy investors.
As we can see from Figure 1, through one year the price of Berkshire Hathaway s shares increase for
approximately 48,000 per share.
Figure 1. BRK A, 2007. Thus, in spite of fact that price of these stocks is awfully high, investors still
buy it because it has been increasing from year to year.
Reverse Stock Split
A reverse split reduces the number of outstanding shares and should instantly lift a stock s price. For
example, a stock trading at $1 that is reverse split 1 for 5 should rise to $5 while the company s market
value and underlying fundamentals are unchanged. Investors own fewer shares, but their value stays
the same. So, it really depends on the substance of the stock behind the stock. And it is right that most
reverse splits turn out badly. Most times, a reverse split is done because the shares have fallen down
into the penny stock category (below $5 per share) that threatens their ability to remain listed on an
exchange. Nasdaq requires that a

Theme Of Metadrama In A Midsummer Night Dream
Shakespeare Question 1 Metadrama in A Midsummer Night Dream. Metadrama refers to a play
featured in the plot of another play. Shakespeare presents metadrama in A Midsummer Night Dream in
several ways. There is evidence of metadrama in the soliloquy by Helena at the end of the Act 1. In
this instance, Helena talks about her emotions and feelings. She goes on to act out her emotions stating
that it is not possible to grasp love by the eyes. She says that love can only be captured via perception.
The soliloquy sets up the ground work for other such instances in the acts that follow. It is important
to observe the relationship between eye and I in Helena s soliloquy as a rhyme. Through Athens I am
thought as fair as she. But what of that? Demetrius thinks not so. He will not know what all but he do
know. And as he errs, doting on Hermia s eyes. So I, admiring of his qualities. (Act 1, scene 1) Helena
follows Demetrius into the forest as she sings with love and kindness. While this does not qualify as
soliloquy, it falls under metadrama as the playwright wishes to share Helena s message with the
audience. Her actions are self contradictory if one refers to her previous soliloquy. She is unable to
fathom or accept that Demetrius does not love her. This should be contrasted to her earlier claims that
it is not possible to grasp love by the eyes. Shakespeare develops the paradox as an important
exemplification of metadrama in A Midsummer Night Dream. Helena s character is a product of her
era such that contradiction is a rarity. Discrepancy between actions and words was seen as egoism and
was only accepted in fiction as opposed to the society. Like Shakespeare, many playwrights from the

Weygers Short Story
The man arrived figuratively and literally on a high horse.
Even in his later years, Weygers was full of ideas and purpose. He carried buckets of scrap iron to his
forge with effortlessness a man half his age would envy. He continued to sculpt, carve, teach, and
invent all on a near daily basis.
He could easily have earned enough money to provide himself with a country estate like the ones
popping up around his home, complete with a swimming pool, two cars, and a country club
membership. This proved especially annoying to some of his neighbors who had those possessions but
did not come by them easily.
I remember we were outside working one day and this big, stout guy with a mustache rides up on a
stallion, Weygers disciple Peter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though his anvil s ring fell silent in 1989 when he died at the age of 87 from heart disease, it still
reverberates into the ages through the many lives he influenced. Through his work as a professor, he
became elevated to the point that as with his Discopter rendering he had a limitless view.
All of the things that Alex taught us are a continuing revelation, student Lowell Chaput said. His
teachings grow in value as the years pass, just as art does.

In 1932, John Steinbeck published a collection of 12 interconnected short stories called The Pastures
of Heaven. The stories are situated in an enchanting valley with astonishing natural beauty. Steinbeck
s stories feature a series of families that relocate to the valley, and a recurring theme in the book is the
pain caused when the focus of one s life becomes the pleasing of others.
Ten years later, Alex and Marian Weygers struck out and settled in that same valley.
I remember a story in Pastures of Heaven about a little boy who had never been to school but had been
raised by an outdoorsman father, Weygers said. The authorities finally made the boy go to school, but
they found out he knew more about life than all of the other children thanks to being

Stereotypes In The Film Juno
Juno is a 2007 film directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody. It stars Ellen Page as the
title character who unexpectedly becomes pregnant at age 16. Juno deals primarily with the subject of
teenage pregnancy and this storyline comprises the bulk of the plot. Juno reflects how society s gender

  • 2. Analysis Of The Book The Things They Carried 1. Birth October 1, 1946; present 2. The things they carried was written in the late 1980 s and published in 1990. The novel acts as a response to the era it discusses by solidifying the un generalized version of war through fictional anecdotes from the narrator and characters. The truth is never portrayed through historic context or media, and with this novel, the author was able to reciprocate the emotions felt by soldiers from the graphic scenes or actions envisioned/written. 3. Factors that influenced the author to publish this novel was partly due to his way of coping after war, using stories to keep the imagination alive and causing the audience to reflect on their own lives. Another is telling an honest view of the what war really is and how the soldiers were affected from the start of being drafted until life after the Vietnam War, trying to find their identity. 4. The novel version I used was paperback. To complete this section, I used websites for articles about O Brien s biography, interviews from the author himself, and different analysis of the novel as my sources to understand the varied perspectives. II. Diction: 1. The diction for this novel is connotative. Although his writing can be straightforward and literal, his reflection can provide varied meanings to what his ideas are. The author often changes literary devices to get his point across. In one chapter, he can be specific on the little details that depicts one s entity and then he can take ... During the late 20th century, the world has witnessed all sorts of social and technological changes due to globalisation (Bologun, Sutherland and Oswick, 2015). In fact, the breakdown of the traditional family division of labour, instant communication through technology, and the increased complexity of organisational objectives have favour gender equality and diversity. Those changes have pressure companies to improve their work structure to be more competitive and to the extent that the idea of an effective leadership has come under pressure to change too. Indeed, organisations have become less hierarchical and more decentralised networks where the traditional source of power erode, and talents instead of nepotism are rewarded (Klein, ... However, women manifest more concern for an interpersonal relationship than men (Eagly and Johannesen‐Schmidt, 2001). Thus, according to the contemporary standard, women manifested more appropriate traits for being an effective leader. Furthermore, Eagly and Carli (2003) also conclude that female leader were more transformational and applied contingent reward behaviours which is one of transactional leadership component. • 4. Conflicting Opinions Over the Popular Front Government in... After the ruling of the corrupt King Alfonso XIII and the horrible massacre the army faced when it was sent to Spanish Morocco, the progressive Popular Front government was elected. In 1936, with the promise of land reform, the conservative forces gathered to plan for resistance. The Spanish left wing, on the other hand, celebrated the elections so joyfully that made the conservative military officers, capitalists and churchman worried that a much broader reform would begin. Rumors of plotting for a military coup led the Republicans to send high ranking military officers to remote postings in order to make communication and coordination between them more challenging. However, it was not enough, the planning for a military uprising continued. When the military coup failed to gain control of the entire country, the civil war started between the Nationalists and the Republicans. The Nationalists received aid from Italy ( at the time, fascist and under the control of *******) and from the Nazi Germany. The Republicans, however, received aid from the Soviet Union and from the International Brigades (composed of volunteers from Europe and the United States). The war was the result of the polarization of the Spanish life and politics that developed over the previous decades since it s monarchic government. Roman Catholics, businessman and landowners were the most notable components of the Nationalist side. At the time, the Republic was considered to be a danger to the ... In 2008, the citizen says, Anyone can become president, and Barack Obama is pictured by his side. The citizen is grinning, looking at President Obama with wide eyes and excitement. Alongside that depiction, the citizen is again shown in 2016. He is saying again, Anyone can become president, however this time Donald Trump is standing by his side. This time the citizen is sad and looks disappointed. d. The cartoonist of this political cartoon is demonstrating the views of many American people after Donald Trump was elected president compared to their views when Barack Obama was elected. He is also ignoring the holistic principle of the Land Ethic meaning that humans are a members of the biotic community, not rulers (Leopold 2). When Joe decided to kill all living plants and animals, he made his choice not as an equal member of the biotic, but as a superior being. He also broke the Second Second Order Principle. Felt soles on the waders trap invasive species within the felt and when the waders are used again the invasive species are transferred to that water source. • 24. How Does Hal Change In King Henry Iv Part 1 Hal is often referred to as the prodigal son of Shakespeare s King Henry IV Part I. Wasteful and lazy, Hal is seen more often drinking in a tavern or robbing others than serving as the next king of England, though he claims that to be all an act in Act I Scene II, where he promises to redeem himself. However, this claim seems dubious at best, Hal immediately going to then play a trick on Falstaff and rob him. However, things seem to change in Act III Scene II. In this scene, King Henry IV has called his son to his castle to discuss the future of England and how Hal is acting less like a prince, and more like the wretched King Richard II, who Henry IV disposed to take the throne. Hal replies to his father, promising that he will redeem himself in his father s eyes and in the eyes of the English noblemen by killing Hotspur, one of the leaders of the rebellion against the king. This speech marks a major character shift in Hal and his motivations shift from drinking and lounging about, to that of redemption and honor through battle. The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but also share differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood accounts. Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man. The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who asked God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible, God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was upon it because of man s wickedness. • 27. Red Hunting Hat Symbolism In Catcher In The Rye Symbolism, in literature, is an extremely effective technique. Symbolism helps create a deeper and more complex meaning to a story. In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, the novel s protagonist, Holden Caulfield is portrayed as an adolescent boy trying to understand who he is supposed to be. He is at an extremely vulnerable time in his life since he has just been kicked out of Pencey Prep and doesn t want his parents to find out. He makes the ultimate decision to leave the school before he is officially kicked out and chooses to begin a new life of independence. The red hunting hat is an extremely important symbol because it gives him a sense of protection and the ability to feel invincible, when wearing it. Throughout the novel, the red hunting hat shows up in many main events that happen to him during his new life as an independent person. Ultimately, the red hunting hat helps him feel protected in a world of the unknown. Not only does the red hat symbolize protection, it also represents Holden s uniqueness. The red hat is not a common article of clothing and it helps Holden represent his own personal originality. In the beginning of the novel, Holden was informed that he had been kicked out of his school, Pencey Prep. At this time, Holden was at a very vulnerable point in his life. He did not know what he was supposed to do since he did not want his parents to find out. The red hunting hat was introduced into the novel when he got off the subway in New York. It was the red hunting hat, with one of those very, very long peaks. I saw it in the window of this sports store when we got out of the subway, just after I noticed i d lost all the goddamn foils. It only cost me a buck. The way I wore it, I swung the old peak way around to the back very corny I ll admit, but I liked it that way (Salinger 21). This quote shows that the minute he saw the hunting hat in the store window it gave him a sense of comfort and protection. When he bought the hat, he was in a vulnerable state when he had forgotten the equipment on the subway. The hat gave him the ability to feel protected from the disappointment he felt when he let his team down. The significance of the way he turned his hat around is also important. ... • 37. Theme Of Metadrama In A Midsummer Night Dream Shakespeare Question 1 Metadrama in A Midsummer Night Dream. Metadrama refers to a play featured in the plot of another play. Shakespeare presents metadrama in A Midsummer Night Dream in several ways. There is evidence of metadrama in the soliloquy by Helena at the end of the Act 1. In this instance, Helena talks about her emotions and feelings. She goes on to act out her emotions stating that it is not possible to grasp love by the eyes. She says that love can only be captured via perception. The soliloquy sets up the ground work for other such instances in the acts that follow. It is important to observe the relationship between eye and I in Helena s soliloquy as a rhyme. Through Athens I am thought as fair as she. But what of that? Demetrius thinks not so. He will not know what all but he do know. And as he errs, doting on Hermia s eyes. So I, admiring of his qualities. (Act 1, scene 1) Helena follows Demetrius into the forest as she sings with love and kindness. While this does not qualify as soliloquy, it falls under metadrama as the playwright wishes to share Helena s message with the audience. Her actions are self contradictory if one refers to her previous soliloquy. She is unable to fathom or accept that Demetrius does not love her. This should be contrasted to her earlier claims that it is not possible to grasp love by the eyes. Shakespeare develops the paradox as an important exemplification of metadrama in A Midsummer Night Dream. Helena s character is a product of her era such that contradiction is a rarity. Discrepancy between actions and words was seen as egoism and was only accepted in fiction as opposed to the society. Like Shakespeare, many playwrights from the era did not shy away from including such metadramatic devices in their plays. Helena has the social traits of her time making it difficult for the audience to accept her actions toward Demetrius as anything other than dramatic acts. For a Renaissance woman, the audience would expect her to portray a higher level of realism. Then to the wood will he to morrow night. Pursue her; and for this intelligence.
