Mac Vs Pc Research Paper
Admittedly, Macs were in the market first, and initially were much better than PCs. But it s time to
realize the future of home computing: the PC. Although Macs are not completely useless, PCs
dominate the world of computers with a better user interface, cheaper price, and better internal
workings. These advantages far outweigh any little extra features that a Mac might have.
First of all, PCs have a better user interface. While Mac users have always boasted of having a
computer with a clean, modern look, this changed with Windows Vista, released on January 30, 2007.
Windows Vista has translucent window bars, a search bar on the start menu, and tabs on the bottom of
the screen, as well as introducing a feature in which users can scroll ... Show more content on

Another factor to ponder is that PCs have more RAM, or random access memory. RAM is memory
that programs that are running use actively. Less RAM means programs run slower, so having more
RAM is definitely a plus. Windows launches applications faster than Macs, and Windows is far better
at 3 D rendering (required for most modern games) (itok.net).
Compatibility is definitely a major issue. PC s are compatible with Xbox 360, the top selling console
of 2011 (winrumors.com), Linux, and Windows 7 has something called XP mode. XP mode allows the
PC user to run Windows XP on their Windows 7. PCs are also more compatible with TVs/big screens,
because most Macs require an adapter (www.itok.net). Another topic to think about is the Windows
Task Manager. The Windows Task Manager allows you access with a quick shortcut (CTRL SHIFT
ESC or CTRL ALT DELETE) to close unresponsive or frozen programs, or to monitor threads, CPU
usage, network usages, users, and background processes. Mac s equivalent, Activity Monitor, does not
have such a simple access method (the user must search for it in spotlight, then click on it), does not
provide as much information, and instead uses Force Quit. PC s alternate to Force Quit is a simple pop
up that automatically appears when a program stops responding, possibly saving the user much time
and effort. This alternate can be manually triggered by the user.
Furthermore, PCs

Equal Pay Differentials
The debate of equal pay between men and women has been an ongoing issue for years and is still
being debated to this day, the belief that men deserve to be paid more than women solely based on
gender, is an outdated opinion that is being addressed through different types of legal laws. The Equal
Pay Act of 1963 was the first step towards an adjustment of balance in pay for women (EEOC, n.d.).
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is an amendment of the Fair Labor Standards Acts, a federal statute of the
United States. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is a U.S. federal law enforced by the U.S. Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and aimed at ending wage mismatch based on sex. .
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was signed into law on June 10, 1963, by John F. Kennedy as part of his
New Frontier Program (EEOC, n.d.). The Equal Pay Act of 1963 enforced that, Employers ... Show

Pay differentials are permitted, when they are based on seniority, merit, quantity or quality of
production, or a factor other than sex. These are known as affirmative defenses, Employers have the
task of proving factors other than gender are the reason for pay differentials (SHRM.org, n.d.).
Congress expressed that sex discrimination, depresses wages and living standards for employees
necessary for their health and efficiency, prevents the maximum utilization of the available labor
resources, tends to cause labor disputes, thereby burdening, affecting, and obstructing commerce,
burdens commerce and the free flow of goods in commerce, and constitutes an unfair method of
competition (Wikipedia, n.d.). Due to the growth of women furthering their education and interring
into the workforce obtaining positions generally held by men, the Equal Pay Act of 1963 is vital in
making sure women are being treated and equally compensated for the work they do in occupations
traditionally dominated by men. I guess some of you could have probably guessed why I would pick
this law, especially after the first

Why Saddam Hussein Ruled Iraq
Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq for almost a third of the country s existence as an independent nation.
Since its beginning, Iraq was divided by ethnicity and tribal structures representing alternative socio
political communities in competition with central state government. In fact, Iraq has always been a
weak state defined as having just enough power and coercive force for the central government to
remain in control and its viability over time depended on its ability to govern and enforce laws. The
durability of tribal structures, particularly those in the sparsely populated Sunni portions of the
country, made it difficult for the Iraqi government to absorb and integrate them (Crone, 1993). These
problems were exacerbated by the faction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process reflected the historic ebb and flow of tribal power, as well as the political durability of
tribal structures able to broker allegiance for privileged influence. Powerful Sunni tribes and tribal
confederations like the Jubur, Dulaym, Tayy, Khazraj, al Azza, Harb, Maghamis, Mushahadah,
Luhayb, and Ubayd became accustomed to receiving significant money and autonomy, as well as
privileged positions within government (Otterman, 2003). Giving them these benefits in exchange for
their allegiance benefited Hussein, however it also established these tribes as power brokers within the
context of post invasion Iraq, something bound to hinder the development of Iraqi democracy and
nationalism. If Sunni tribes, representing a third of the Iraqi population, could choose which
government to support or require exclusive privileges from their continued acquiescence, the prospect
of forming an effective Iraqi democracy seemed to require strengthening the central government by
weakening the tribes. However, the ongoing Iraqi insurgency, largely fueled by the same Sunni tribes,
drove the United States into adopting policies the reinforced tribal power. The became particularly
evident in the 2007 2008 period when the United States

Show Jumping Is A Positive Aspect On My Life
Since I was five, I have had a passion for horses and interacting with them. When I was younger, my
parents gave me an array of dolls and horse figurines to entertain myself. I always used to ignore the
dolls and play with horse figurines. Luckily, my older sister loved dolls so she just sneakily stole the
dolls away from me one by one while I played with my horse figurines for hours. I have always
admired the strength, beauty and power of horses. My interest in horses has caused me to search
through websites and books for new ways to connect with them and finally after hours of searching; I
finally found my calling. Many years later, show jumping has become a positive aspect on my life.
One important aspect of show jumping is training. Training before a show has taught me many lessons
that I can apply to other aspects of my life such as improving my training. While training a use
different genres as a student would use a genre to aid them in classifying different texts that share the
same characteristics. Videos are used to help gain more insight into show jumping while speeches and
books are most commonly used for training. Videos are useful to help me visualize and hear different
techniques. Since an instructor can only speak to you, videos allow me to understand what my
instructor is trying to explain to me. For example, when I was first learning to jump, I was having
trouble getting into two point. I had to go on my laptop to look up tips on how to get into

I Am My Graduate Career
When I began my undergraduate career, I had no inkling of what I wanted to do in the future. It was
early on that I discovered my passion for chemistry, math and physics classes which galvanized my
hunger for knowledge. In due time, I developed a proclivity for research that was stirred largely by my
first mentor, Dr. Daniel Lambrecht, during an American Chemical Society meeting. I was so
engrossed in his research on nanocatalysis and piezoelectrics that I walked up to him as soon as the
meeting ended and immediately made clear of my interest to join his group.
I left my undergraduate career conflicted about whether to pursue a degree in chemistry or chemical
engineering. Through a combination of independent research, advice from mentors, and on the job
industrial experience, I have realized that my interests align more with chemical engineering. The
broad range of career paths and opportunities for technological innovation draws me to the field of
engineering. With chemical, physical, and mathematical concepts as well as industrial know how,
engineers transform ideas into useful and attainable products that impact the lives of many.
My experiences during my undergraduate and professional careers have had profound impacts on me
by providing opportunities for self discovery and allowing me to explore my interests. At the
University of Pittsburgh Chemical Engineering Ph.D. program, I hope to explore my interests in
nanotechnology, surface chemistry interactions, and

The Parent Child Relationship
In many books whatever the literary genre they belong to, the topic of the parent child relationship is
often something used and represented. This relation can be represented in different ways depending on
the author and the genre but also depending on the effects it will have on the readership and on its goal
in the story. A very simplistic and legal definition of what a parent child relationship is can be given
through the biological links. However, sometimes the relationship between a parental figure such as an
adoptive father/mother and its child is not that easy to understand especially because a link which is
different and sometimes stronger than the biological one is created. This is why depending on which
parental figure one refers to, parent child relationships can be chaotic, a source of suffering or helpful
and harmonised such as the ones in Stephen King s The Shining. They can be represented as a form of
unconditional love, involving sometimes to risk one of the parent s life and to brave dangers like in
Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu s Carmilla. They can be completely omnipresent and terrible like the ones in
Mary Shelly s Frankenstein or they can be very confusing as it is the case in John Ajvide Lindqvist s
Let the Right One In. By studying the representations of the relationships between four fathers and
their children this essay will try to see how the almost scientific definition of the relation can be
applied to some characters of these books and how a more

Comparing The Shaper, Hrothgar, And Beowulf
Oscar Wilde once said, To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all. For some
people, this is true, whereas others squander their time and contribute nothing to society. As for the
three characters in Grendel, The Shaper, Hrothgar, and Beowulf, their lives do have a meaning. The
Shaper provides a solidification between ideas and man; Hrothgar offers a sense of leadership and
ambition to his fellow men and Beowulf proves his is merely a mindless killing machine. The Shaper
and his songs give men a reason to believe their systems such as religion and their history. The first
instance of The Shaper using his songs is when he goes to Hrothgar s mead hall for the first time. He
tells the story of Scyld Shefing, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Grendel watches Hrothgar first start out, he proves himself to be a great warlord. This happens
after the tree incident where Grendel first encounters human beings. Hrothgar showed what he could
do and how strong his men were. He then sent men to his neighbors every three months or so to gather
tribute from them. He worked out a theory about what fighting was for, and now he no longer fought
with his six closest neighbors (37). This is a necessity of a quality of a good king. He knows how to
gain power quickly. Hrothgar is smart to play to his advantages and bully his neighbors and create an
even bigger army to proclaim himself king eventually. Hrothgar proves to be ambitious. He decides
that as a testament to his greatness and everything he and his men have accomplished, they will build
a meadhall. He would build a magnificent meadhall high on a hill... to stand forever as a sign of the
glory and justice of Hrothgar s Danes (47). Hrothgar s ambition shows to the men that he will cement
a place to remember the great history of the Danes and all they have accomplished. He also possesses
the quality of an excellent negotiator. When his power starts to fade, a king by the name of Hygmod
begins to rise up against Hrothgar. Hrothgar takes his army and goes to Hygmod s hall and confronts
him. Hygmod offers his sister as a peace offering to which Hrothgar accepts. Come,

The Pros And Cons Of UFO And Aliens
UFO and Aliens have claimed to be seen all the time but few are easy to believe. A lot of people see
mysterious lights somewhere. Lights are seen commonly, but when people see a strange light at night
they might think about UFO. So many people swear to have been abducted or seen flying saucers, and
some describe the same thing and have captivated with creatures from other planets. Some shows and
movies of these subjects have been produced. A lot of people are curious about this subject, and this is
not surprising. Many flying objects have been witnessed but never identified each year. One of the
most famous cases of a UFO and Aliens is the Roswell New Mexico incident in 1947, but it was
quickly covered up by the government, and many people are still questioning what really happened.
The US government gave some irrational reasons as explanations for the crash. Also, at Roswell s
case, Brown wrote that a funeral home was secretly contacted to order four children sized hermetically
closed coffins. Giving people reason to believe these bodies could be dead aliens after being studied.
Few Roswell incident reports showed that the flying saucer was made from unknown materials. After
this event, some people started to believe in and research UFO and Alien documents. People usually
think of are a grey short body and big eyes because the Aliens in the Roswell incident which was
known by the entire world had the similar shape. Also, few pictures from various countries were taken

Essay on Character Analysis of Lancelot in the Movie the...
In the medieval time, knight was a really essential part of the society, because they protected people
and prosperities for them. They are respected, and have good behavior. In order to keep the good
reputation, people came up with the code of chivalry which lists all the qualities that a knight should
have. The movie, First Knight is about a man named Lancelot who is good with sword. He saves the
life of King Arthur s wife, Guinevere, and his behavior captures King Arthur s attention. Then, he is
invited to join the knights of the round table of King Arthur. He goes to a public trial because he has

Loyalty is very necessary for a knight, and Lancelot shows it vividly. Lancelot is not in a position that
he is proud of when the problem comes, but he still works for what he believes in. Lancelot is facing a
public trial in Camelot. Suddenly, Camelot is surrounded by the army of Malagant. He threated King
Arthur to give him the city, or everybody will die. King Arthur starts the battle with Malagant s army,
and he gets shoots in his chest four times by crossbow. Lancelot goes into the crown, and he fights
with Malagant who is also really good at sword. It is a really tough fight, so both of them gets injured.
He does not give up, and he kills Malagant eventually. Lancelot is not trusted by King Arthur at the
time when Camelot is invaded, because he is caught kissing Guinevere. He may be killed by King
Arthur, and he can just run away due to the enormous chaos in the city at that tie. But he remembers
that he is a knight, and he cannot fail the people in Camelot. So he picks up a sword, and helps people
to defend their city. When he is fighting with Malagant, he tries to save an old man under the brutal
broadsword of a knight of Malagant. He gets injured because of this action. All Lancelot has done
shows everyone that he has loyalty to the city, Camelot, and his lord, King Arthur. Lancelot is valiant,

INTRODUCTION:
ECM:
An electronic countermeasure (ECM) is an electrical or electronic device intended to trick or mislead
radar, sonar or other detection systems, like infrared (IR) or lasers. It may be used both offensively
and cautiously to negate targeting data to an enemy. The system may make many distinct targets
appear to the opponent, or make the actual target appear to vanish or move about indiscriminately. It is
used efficiently to protect aircraft from guided missiles. Many air forces use ECM to protect their
airplane from attack. It has also been deployed by military ships and newly on some cutting edge
tanks to fool laser guided missiles. It is frequently coupled with stealth advances so that the ECM
systems have an easier job. Offensive ECM often takes the form of jamming. Defensive ECM
includes using blip enhancement and jamming of missile terminal homers.
ACTIVE ECM:
It is a method which involves degradation of effectiveness of enemy equipment by transmitting
electromagnetic radiation. Which can be achieved by noise or deceptive jamming.
NOISE JAMMING:
The main function of noise jamming is to create an interference to the

The Impact Of Television Commercials In Advertising
Our modern era, has made it possible for everyone to have access of technology at home. As
individuals watch daily television, the number of television ads they view daily is significant.
However, how do these television commercials shape or affect the gendered roles and norms expected
from women? In this paper, we will be analyzing the serious effects and expectations individuals can
acquire from commercial ads.
Television ads primarily focus on trying to promote an event or sell an item. It was found that the
commercial ads within an hour span from 2009 to 2013 has slightly increased from 13 minutes and 25
seconds to 14 minutes and 15 seconds (Flint 2014). Meaning that in just one hour we view on average
just 29 television commercials. Despite them being small 30 second commercials, they still can make
a big impact on individual s unconscious mind. Today in most advertisements, we see food, beer, or
beauty supplies. A strong portion of these commercial advertisements either use women to sell their
products or are directed towards women. These ads tend to scrutinize women sexually by objectifying
their bodies, persuading them to subject to a beauty standard, and by reinforcing their oppressive
gender roles.
Take for example beauty supplies commercials such as that of Clean and Clear. Clean and Clear
continuously creates new face washes and cleansers they want to sell, and as they advertise these
products, they constantly use thin, beautiful women with clear

Socialism Vs Communism
In 1848 Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote The Communist Manifesto , and even had it published.
Their main goal in writing this book was to completely get rid of capitalism. Karl Marx did not
believe in social classes. He believed that everyone should live equal lives and personal ownership
should not be allowed. According to Marx, everything should belong to the community, or working
class. Communism is a more complex and advanced version of socialism. Although both economic
systems believe in putting the most important means of production in the hands of the people, whether
its directly or through the government, they differ from each other in many ways. While in a
communist society ownership is ascribed to the state or community, a socialist ... Show more content

There is also an efficient distribution of resources. This is possible because the government owns all
means of production. Even if you graduated from one of the best colleges around, you would still have
the same chance of getting the same job as someone who does not even have a high school education.
Every person is paid the same amount no matter what job they have. Since the government dictates the
economic structure, it remains internally stable.
Individual needs would be put under any needs of the society. The government monitors everything,
especially computers. Privacy almost does not exist. Communism also eliminates any competition,
which is not healthy for any society. People need to be able to make goals higher than what they are
allowed in order to keep motivated and actually take pride in their work. If everyone is paid the same
regardless of what they do, the economy will become lazy and nothing with be of good quality if it
does not matter to begin with. It is not a successful economic system as a whole.
The government benefits mostly from communism, they even own most of the factors of production
and control how things are done. This affects everyone in the economy and their everyday

Philipus Paracelsus Research Paper
Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, usually known as Paracelsus, was born
in Einsiedeln, Switzerland on either the 11th November or 17th December 1493. This was the time of
the Renaissance. He died on the 24th September 1541. During this period of time surgery was
practiced mostly by barbers, who used the same tools for both their trades. Medicine was primitive
and painful in this era. There was much controversy over how to manage wounds, for example the
argument of whether or not pus was good. Cauterization, or the burning of a wound to close it, was the
main way to stop bleeding. All in all, most medicinal views were based off of unproved theories.
Magic was not used in healing at this time as witch burnings were still taking place. It was very taboo,
and had no place in healing where he worked. As a wizard, Paracelsus is credited ... Show more

He opposed most of the normal beliefs of his time, instead saying that illness was the result of the
body being attacked by agents from outside the body. He was against excessive bloodletting, saying
that the process disturbed the harmony of our systems, and that our blood could not be purified by
having decreasing the amount within us. He spent some time as a military surgeon, where doctors
thought that infection was a natural part of the healing process. He stood for cleanliness and protection
of wounds and the regulation of diet. The popular ideas of that time opposed these theories and
suggested sewing or plastering wounds instead. Paracelsus introduced the use of chemicals and
minerals in medicine. His views were that sickness and health in the body relied on the harmony of

their bodies, and that certain illnesses had chemical remedies that could cure

Although each translation is clear and understandable, I believe the King James Version is more

Wrought Iron Gates Research Paper
History of Wrought Iron Gates
As with everything in manufacturing and design, wrought iron has a long line of history. It has been
around for several centuries due to it s long lasting durability and beauty. Wrought iron unlike cast
iron is not brittle and can be beat in to elaborate designs when heated.
When wrought iron gates first came about they were all heated and molded by hand. In this day and
age you can still find several blacksmiths who will still do this by hand. However, most of the time it
is done in a factory so that they all look the same to provide a seamless look.
The first wrought iron gate was manufactured in the 18th century and was made for a cathedral. The
priest who didn t want a fence at all said that if there had to be one, he wanted it made from wrought
iron over any other material. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first gate around the White House in the United States was made of wrought iron. This is because
it provided the security the White House needed. Other than knowing that wrought iron was extremely
durable due to the components that it is made of, they learned that it would be strong enough to
protect the White House due to an accident. This accident happened when a man lost control of his car
and almost crashed into a building. The only reason he did not crash was a wrought iron figure that
stopped him before he reached it.
Now days wrought iron gates can be found all over the globe. They are great for homes as well as

Genetically Modified Foods
Part 1
Genetically Modified Food
With genetically modified foods I believe we have reached the thin edge of the wedge, we are messing
with the building blocks of life and its scary Malcom Walker, Chairman and Chief Executive of
Iceland Foods (Quotes from Scientists).
Genetically modified organisms or GMOs are plants or animals made by splicing the gene and
inserting DNA from different species of plants, animals, bacteria, and viruses. These genes would not
naturally result in a cross breed. As a result of this biotechnology more than ninety percent of corn,
soybean, cotton, sugar, and canola in the US are genetically modified. Other major GMOs are papaya,
zucchini and yellow squash (Non GMO Project). If not stopped it will be a matter of another few years
that they capitalized the entire food industry. Ironically even now, most of the popular food items of
children like cereal, crackers, cookies, and processed lunch meat are all GMOs.
Is genetically modified food good for consumers? What are its impacts? What are the effect of GMO
on the environment? How do they influence the life of a common farmer and the food industry? Is the
situation really bad? How did we get trapped in this? What steps can be taken to control it? These and
many other questions need to be addressed before it is too late.

was modifying living species. The understanding of the genome led to an

Human Rights Act Of 1998
Rights that protect human beings and the extent of legality of what they are entitled to as people are a
core part of each constitution globally. The extent of human rights protection varies from country to
country, with total democracies having most human rights that encompass freedom of speech and
expression among other freedoms. These are the most sovereign of laws as they express how liberal
and powerful the majority can be as opposed to the minority being powerful in some countries or
kingdoms. In some countries, the part of the constitution (just answer legal) is referred to as the Bill of
Rights. In the United Kingdom, they are referred to as the human rights act of 1998. It was previously
referred to as the Bill of rights though. As expressed in the UK parliament official website, the Human
rights Act came into life in 1998 to bring rights home (www.parliament.uk, 2014).
Section 3 of the 1998 Human Rights act has equally been center of controversy and light about various
issues as who decides the extent to which the human rights stretch. The human rights act expresses the
human rights that are contained in the European Convention (Jeeves) on Human rights as part of the

Ottawa Charter Analysis
As we all know, health has being one of essential part of human being.
Health promotion is the process of allowing people to control, manage and improve their health by
accesses on a social and cultural understanding of health and illness. Health promotion is not just the
responsibility of the health sector, but goes beyond healthy lifestyles to wellbeing.
In November 1986, the first International Conference on Health Promotion was held in Ottawa. And
they launched a number of actions among international organisations, national governments and local
communities to achieve the goal of Health For All by the year 2000 and beyond through better health

Pathways Through Financial Crisis: India
Arunabha Ghosh
India survived near crisis situations twice in the 1990s. How did internal and external constraints
shape that country s ability to respond to the crises? This article argues that India s success can be
attributed to four sets of decisions taken during the period 1991 1997: devaluation, involvement of the
IMF, partial liberalization of the domestic financial sector, and gradual opening up of the external
sector. The article analyzes the options, political opposition, and eventual outcomes for each set of
decisions. India s ownership of its reform program helped set the pace of reform, while close

The Food Areas Of The United States Essay
As the population increases and urbanization continues to develop and become more popular, an
important, life sustaining product is left behind. Most relevant in western civilization, the scarcity of
locally grown and produced food is a problem that exists, whether people realize it or not. Per the
Food Access Research Atlas, provided by the United States Department of Agriculture, there are 8,959
food deserts in the united states as of 2010 ¹. An Urban Food desert is any location deprived of
supermarkets and other access to fresh fruits and vegetables, which usually plagues places of lower
socioeconomic status. The low demand for food is attributed to lack of affordability and education,
and perceptibly retailers ought not bring their business to places with very little demand for the
product. If these deserts are ever to be omitted from the world, it is not enough to hope for the
eventual emergence of supermarkets or farms, communities must work together to improve their range
of reachable sustenance. It is every person s duty, as a member of humanity, to aid in fixing the
problem and ultimately improving the world, which gives way to defining the common good approach
to ethical reasoning. Using the common good approach, a simple, yet collectively beneficial solution
is the emergence of local gardens/greenhouses, which would largely combat the detrimental dining
options of an urban food desert. If the movement to a more horticultural lifestyle is ever to work, first,

Synthesis Essay On Eating Locally
Eating local is a simple change, but can make a difference in a few aspects. Food is able to stay on the
vine longer and grow more nutrients for your body and money you spend locally will recycle through
your community. Locavorism is becoming more popular and farmers markets a high demand since
more people are discovering the benefits of it. Overall, it proves to be better for everyone when you
buy and eat locally grown food.
Eating locally grown food is better for you. When food is grown far away, packaged harshly, and
shipped in less than pleasant conditions, it isn t as fresh when it actually reaches your family s dinner
plates. Food that travels farther distances doesn t have the strong vitamins and minerals our bodies
need because [f]ood begins to lose nutrition as soon as it is harvested (Source B). But local farmers are
able to sustain the nutrition by allowing the food to ripen until the last possible minute on the vine
(Source A), and you receive fresh food with nutritious vitamins and minerals in full. ... Show more

When you buy an apple at Walmart, supposing you may pay less, your money is spent on mediocre
tasting produce that was shipped from far away, in a land where Walmart promotes cheap labor. Your
money should be spent inside your community because a dollar spent locally generates twice as much

either public or private measures set prevent disease, stimulate good health, and stretch life

workers and patients remain aware of its relevance in our society. The second part of this assessment

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of

courage because he had to stand up to peer pressure so he didn t make fun of sarah. In the story don t
give up the fight Ava had to have courage to stay on the track team even though nobody wanted her
there .They are different because they both show courage, but they show it in totally different ways
like their social implication. Like, Ava helped herself and sarah helped of her bullies. The boy in
making Sarah cry had to stand up to peer pressure and in don t give up the fight the girl had to show
the boys what she is made of. In the story Don t give up the Fight the theme is courage. I know this
because Ava has to keep racing after she is getting bullied. My other reason is that ava has to stand up
to the boys and coach that try to put her down and want her to quit but, she keeps running even though
she is getting made fun of. My last reason is that ava has her friend to talk to but she didn t because
she felt like nobody would understand. This is the story don t give up the fight. ... Show more content

John Was Preaching Against Rome
John was preaching against Rome in Revelation
In the late first century a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, John of Patmos, received a vision of the end
the world. John later wrote this vision down and his writing has come down to modernity as The Book
of Revelation also known as The Apocalypse of John. When John wrote Revelation was he using it as
a coded message to preach against Rome? In this vision, John saw many images that could be read as
Rome or Roman if viewed from a historical context. Subsequent generations have interpreted the
imagery within their own historical context. With this paper I will argue that Revelation pertains to the
Roman world and culture that John and his followers were living in, the events in Judea that are
thought to have occurred within his life time and that John used some of the same imagery to connect
his writing to the Hebrew Bible. There are two main competing dates for the writing of Revelation, an
early date of 69 70 and a later date of 90 92. This paper will be using the 69 70 date and will be
providing evidence to prove why this date works better for the context of this paper. First this paper
will establish the time frame in which John wrote Revelation. George H. van Kooten s article, The
Year of the Four Emperors and the Revelation of John: The pro Neronian Emperors Otho and

Analysis Of The Book Meridian By Alice Walker
Alice Walker once said, No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies you the right to
grow. Due to the extreme patriarchal society based in the sixties era, women s voices were often
disregarded and silenced. In the historical novel Meridian, by Alice Walker, the main female
protagonist, Meridian, struggles to comply with the harsh patriarchal systems set in place in her
community, in turn, she uses her silence as a form of resistance. She has various encounters with a
man named Truman, whom she is in love with, but fears she s not good enough because of the color of
her skin. She begins articulate her thoughts and acting without explanation. To replace her silenced
voice, Walker uses third person omniscient and characterization. Meridian is a woman with endless
thoughts and questions that she neglects to voice or ask. The root of Meridian s resistant manner stems
from the uncomfortable power struggle she has with men, like Truman, because of the expectations of
women in the sixties. Men were placed above women and women s opinions were deemed irrelevant.
The author s usage of third person omniscient reveals Meridian s subconscious thoughts during
moments where her voice is overpowered by a male character. For example, She was also tempted to
add white exchange students. But how polite she was! (Walker 108). In this scene Meridian runs into
Truman and begins a dialogue about his beliefs. Meridian is embarrassed by Truman s infatuation with

Essay on The Effect of the Vietnam War on the Australian...
The Effect of the Vietnam War on the Australian Society
The Vietnam War had great political impact and led to deep division within Australian society. The
Australian people were forced to take the issues about the Cold War, Vietnam and the arms race
seriously because of Australia s military involvement in Vietnam from 1962 to 1972. As a result, our
fear of communism and of Asia increased dramatically.
Australia, occupying a large mass of land, yet having a small population had always lived in the belief
that they were threatened some way by the foreign powers and this led to the formation of The White
Australia Policy , which was set up in 1901. This policy clearly reflects the enormous fear ... Show

These had the effect of Australia feeling vulnerable and lonely, and all the traditional beliefs of the
mother country, Britain, coming to Australia s aid in time of need vanished and with the reaction of
Britain towards Australia, Australian Government had to accept the fact that they were only
expendable part of the British Empire.
Australia, led by the Curtin Government at the time, at last realized the limits of British powers, yet
desperate in need of allies and protectors, looked up to the United States as the only support to assist
Australia. This realization made a great impact in the changes of the relationships between Britain and
Australia.
United States did come to rescue Australia in 1942 but the motive was for its self interest because
Australia was the best place from which the Americans could apply its counter offenses against the
Japanese, and when General MacArthur arrived in Australia he was greatly welcomed by the Australia
government, seeing as they didn t have much choice other than follow US military strategies due to
the fall of British power. This World War II played a major role in Australia s beginning relationships

Scurvy
Scurvy is the state of Vitamin C deficiency. As the human body cannot produce vitamin C, serum
levels of this vitamin are solely dependent on dietary intake mainly from vegetables and fruits.
Vitamin C has an essential role in collagen formation of skin, gums, bones, and mucus membranes. It
also protects DNA, protein, and vessel walls from damage. Although scurvy is thought to be very rare
nowadays, it still can be found in elderly, college students and children who maintain poor diet on

One study in the UK showed that in 2008 the weighted prevalence of low levels of Vitamin C (s
history and clinical examination are powerful tools to reach to an accurate diagnosis. However, it may
be difficult to reach to the diagnosis of scurvy especially when common symptoms are absent. The
classical findings in scurvy are swollen gums and gingival bleeding and those were not present in this
case. In fact, some studies reported rare manifestations of scurvy such a patient that initially presented
with anorexia nervosa and was eventually diagnosed with scurvy. In two separate case reports, scurvy
patients were admitted to a hospital after presenting with orthostatic hypotension and hematochezia.
The patient on this case report presented with perifollicular hemorrhages and ecchymoses on his lower
extremities, and despite poor dental hygiene, he did not have gingival hypertrophy, and denied gum
bleeding. In a similar report, a 38 year old male presented with knee pain, easy bruising but had
gingival bleeding, which may have suggested a more clear suspicion of Vitamin C deficiency, and
another presentation reported a 54 year old female with similar presentation as our patient but who

Rhetorical Analysis Of Mercy For Leopold And Loeb
Mercy for Leopold and Loeb: A Rhetorical Analysis
Clarence Darrow was a corporate lawyer who defended several high profile cases. One of his biggest
was the Leopold and Loeb murder trial. In this case Darrow defended two young men, Nathan
Leopold Jr. and Richard Loeb, (commonly referred to as Leopold and Loeb) who confessed to
murdering Bobby Franks. The men believed their high intellects afforded them the ability to commit
what is commonly referred to as the perfect crime, and some speculated that it was a thrill kill. Loeb
confessed to the crime and Leopold soon followed. Due to these circumstances, Darrow s defense was
based primarily to mitigate the punishment from Capital by way of hanging, to indefinite
imprisonment. In the closing arguments, his use of ethos and pathos was strong and obvious. Pathos
was mixed with recent history (it is assumed by this author that he is referring to World War I, as he
spoke of Europe) and the use of ethos was used several times with references to the American Civil
War and how crime rates skyrocketed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

by way of press. Lawyers are showman and salesman. They must present and sell the concept that the

This research adopted the sequential process model, therefore the research was executed in a fixed and
continuous sequences (Dawson, 2009).
1. Identify the wider knowledge
The wider insight about relational and non relational database performance, particularly MySQL and
Hadoop was gathered through the literature survey. By read textbooks, reviewing academic journals
and research papers, I founded a gap in the performance of relational database compare to the non

2. Determine research topic
Research topic was derived from the understanding of query processing in MySQL and Hadoop, the

it was decided to develop a comparative analysis to observe the effectiveness of the performance of

the analysis included a comparison between those two platforms in two variance of data size.
3. Define research approach

Persuasive Essay On Women And Leisure
Women and Leisure Since the beginning of time, men and women have been categorized differently
and given their own set of expectations and constraints. Still to this day, the differences among
genders are labeled throughout society, and especially for women, this creates a drawback in the hope
for equality. There has been increasing improvements in the last 100 years for men and women to gain
identical rights and treatment, although this does not mean things are perfect in the least bit. Women
have been given an identity and when they step away from the norm, negative reactions make it
apparent of how society feels women ought to conduct themselves. Planted roles within genders are
seem to be taught as early as possible, giving guidance to children on how to behave and what is
normal for their sex. Toys are often decided for them, as well as sports interests and clothing.
Whenever a child ventures into the opposite sex s territory, it is often viewed as embarrassing or
unacceptable. This unfortunately can lead a child to mask their true interests and curiosities, which
potentially can bottle up over the years and result negatively. Women have been directed this way
from their childhood, up until their retirement, being told what they are suppose to do and what they

Nagler (2004) presents the Two Factor Theory through a definition provided by Gandhi. In this
perspective, violence tends to be based on punishment and the non violence is based on acts of love.
These two forces provide a framework for social conditioning and the socialization process that can
change a violent individual into a non violent peacemaker. Critically, Nagler (2004) does not provide
empirical evidence in relation to condition of the mind, but he does show the power of leaders, such as
Gandhi and martin Luther King Jr., to alter social beliefs through non violent methods of
bargaining/negotiations. More so, the historical track record of non violent negotiations tends to be
clear in the success tht Gandhi generated in uniting his country and bringing peace to the Indian

Dual Store Model Of Memory Essay
The concept of the Dual Store Model of Memory was proposed by psychologists Richkard Atkinson
and Richard Shiffrin with three components: Sensory Register, Working (Short Term) Memory, and
Long Term Memory (Ormrod, 2016, p. 164). These components combined make up the entirety of the
memory, but each have unique and vital roles that they play in the memory. The sensory register is a
massive bank of storage that holds memories of senses sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and how
something feels (touch), but it does not store memories for any considerable length of time. The
senses that are held here are processed and then they move on to the next component (Ormrod, 2016,
pp. 165 167). An example of the sensory register could be the birds I just saw flying past my window.

refers to the capacity to maintain this limited amount of information through active rehearsal, usually
across a relatively short time interval (Jensen Squire, 2012, p. 15). As Ormrod (2016) reiterates, the
working memory is made up of a variety of factors (factors which influence attention, the nature of
attention itself, the limited capacity of attention, and the control processes of working memory) and as
these factors prove, it requires attention to the information stored here to recall it and then retain it in
the long term (pp. 172 177). An example of working memory would be the process I recently went

the world isn t all as it s said to be. The parent teen relationship plays an important role in Romeo and
Juliet by William Shakespeare and for teenagers today. Aspects of this relationship include romance,
communication, trust, and romance within teens.

The relationship will be stronger and information can be shared between each other easier.Parents can
also get mixed signals on how their teenagers are feeling towards things. In The Tragedy Of Romeo
and Juliet this problem is present. When the death of Tybalt occurs Juliet s parents think her sadness is
due to this which in reality it s because of the banishment of her husband Romeo. Teens can do one
thing and their parents can take it the whole other way. Teens soon start to think that their parents don
t understand how they feel about things. Parents can also take things their child says in a different way,
which can cause confusion and frustration. Parents have a different way they talk from their children
which can include lectures. In You Just Don t Understand, Craig, Judi E states Adolescent s eyes glaze
over when parents launch into lengthy explanations in an attempt to get teens to see a different point
of view. Because a parent senses that the teen has tunes off, she might repeat herself or cite more
examples, probably raising her voice at the same time. When communications skills begin to weaken
teenagers begin to hide things from parents because it is a struggle for them to get their point across
without having problems arise. Craig goes on to say that when parents continue to ask questions to
their teens they start to get aggravated. When a teen loses their temper they

Compare And Contrast The Classic Perspective Of Strategy
In this assignment we compare a classic and a systemic perspective of strategy. When talking about
strategy one will often find the name Michael Eugene Porter. His books, models, frameworks and
theories are often seen as basics in the field of strategy. His most significant and popular framework is
the five forces analysis (Porter, 1980). According to Whittington (1993), Porter is placed within the
classic approach of strategy. In total he introduces four perspectives which are the classic, the
evolutionary, the processual and the systemic. He argues that each perspective had an identifiable
decade in which it was dominant. Accordingly, the classic perspective is placed in a timeframe starting
at 1960. The main intention in the classic perspective is the maximizing return on investment. Besides
Porter, Ansoff and Chandler are important names for the classic approach. Since ... Show more content

Bargaining power of customers (buyers)
This is also described as Market of Outputs. Buyers can influence a company, especially when they
have many alternatives.
Rivalry among existing firms
Rivalry among existing firms is the frequently the major influence on the competitiveness of the
industry. A high intensity of existing rivalry is usually decreasing the profit margin.
3. Blue Ocean Strategy
2004 the two authors Kim and Mauborgne wrote the book Blue Ocean Strategy. They suggest that
companies can sustain high performance through creating uncontested market space, rather than
competing in overcrowded industries. This enables companies to create and capture new demand and
makes the competition irrelevant.
Red Ocean represents markets, which already exist. The main goal of players in red oceans is to
outperform their competition and to achieve a higher market share. In consequence the potential of
growth and profits is

Why Attend Law School
To illustrate why I want attend law school and become a lawyer, I must first say that I do not
remember ever in my life not wanting to be a lawyer. Growing up in a poor neighborhood of a third
world country, to poor parents, going to college seemed at times like an unreachable dream.
Personally, I consider myself blessed that I was born to an uneducated, yet a smart father, who,
thankfully, understood the importance of obtaining an education, even if that meant sacrificing other
of the few commodities we could afford as a family. While I can say I had the full support of my
family, close friends and even neighbors who bet on me to graduate from law school and become a
law professional who will fight their legal battles, I have to say that I also had detractors, who thought
I should had study to be a doctor, or an engineer. Of all those who opposed my attending law school,

Unfortunately, nothing I imagined prepared me for the events to come next: Relatives, who offered
help before I left, found themselves unable to help, also, turned out that after three years living apart
most of the time, marriage was not the same. On top of all that, financial limitations and language
barriers would not allow me to even get thru the doors of a law school, let alone attend one. Faced
with the dilemma of not being able to attend school, not having anything to go back to and the
responsibility of providing for my family, I decided to do the next best thing I could think of, and
joined the US Army. The US Army sent me to an intensive two and a half month of language training
at the Defense Language Institute, from where I went on to serve in different positions within the
Army for the next 20 years, retiring after the rank of

Describe The Living Condition In Eva s
The living conditions on the camp were previously unseen to the world. The Jews were forced to live
in such extreme conditions they died from sickness, lack of food, or exhaustion. They wernt fed
enough and had to sleep in bunks containing many people per bed. Eva outlines the bed bug problem
in the following quote. She stated, They were sickening bloodsuckers that feasted off our bodies.
There were so many that we would have been covered with them had we not scraped them off
immediately. Even so, our skins were pitted with bites and boils from their attacks. The way we had to
live was disgusting. This example of how they had to sleep was consistent across all bracks. The bed
bugs and lice infestation continued to multiply and people s hopes dwindled in such gruesome
circumstances. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Nazi s knew that the more the prisioners feared death the harder they would work. The less that
they would complain, and it also mitigated the risk of a revolt. For these reasons if someone ever got a
sick, they felt like they had nowhere to turn. Go to the hospital and be killed because they cannot
perform manual labor or tough it out to the extreme. When Eva s feet became so severe that there was
no other options she finally folded and went to the hospital, partially because she wanted to see her
mother. The medical facilities were less than abysmal. They we downright sickening. People were
packed into them like cattle being herded by their owner. Forced to sleep in bunks 3 high, 2 people per
bed. The risk not only of contamination but infectious disease spread was immense. Eva tells the
readers about the situation in Chapter 13. The stench urine, stale flesh and death hit my nostrils.
(Evelyn, Kent, Page 118) This description yet again points back to the erosion of any human dignity.
The erosion of empathy from their captures. The dehumanization the felt in every facet of their

Eugene Ramirez Research Paper
Lindsey Ramirez has little to no tact. Lindsey s eyes are sometimes red. Sometimes she reeks of cigar
smoke. Like Forest Gump said, sometimes she smells like cigarettes. Lindsey sometimes walks
around in public with cigarettes or cigars lodged between her ear and the side of her head, for the
entire world to see. Sometimes she stinks like a distillery. Sometimes she smells like beer: sometimes
she smells like liquor. It is nothing for Lindsey to pull out a fifth in broad daylight and say, Let s get
drunk. Lindsey has very little stage presence. She often acts as if she does not care about her
surroundings. She curses and she is loud. She turns ordinary parking lots into movie scenes. She wears
her sleeping clothes when she leaves the house and goes to the grocery store. Lindsey loves attention,
even if that attention is negative. It is hard to involve her in wholesome family functions because she
will turn the best day ever into a most regrettable moment. She always thinks she is right but everyone
knows that she is wrong. Her immature behavior has left her alienated and avoided like a plague.
Lindsey is in love with the coco. Sometimes her eyes are buck and bouncing. Lindsey proudly
proclaims that she sniffs information, and she will do anything to get her hands on prescription
medication. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Who Is Peter Quill A Hero
Heroes. The first thing that people imagine someone honorable, trustworthy and often times self
sacrificing. At this instance, though, the image the audience would get in their head is not correct. The
group of characters featured in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn, defies
those expectations. Peter Quill a.k.a Star Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Groot and Drax the destroyer ignore
the archetypes bestowed on them from previous stories such as Robin Hood and his band of Merry
Men, The Avengers and the Justice League. Those groups are based off of honor and helping the
innocent. Star Lord and his makeshift crew are anything but honorable characters. Built from a thief,
an assassin, a murderer and a bounty hunter and his assistant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

  • 2. Mac Vs Pc Research Paper Admittedly, Macs were in the market first, and initially were much better than PCs. But it s time to realize the future of home computing: the PC. Although Macs are not completely useless, PCs dominate the world of computers with a better user interface, cheaper price, and better internal workings. These advantages far outweigh any little extra features that a Mac might have. First of all, PCs have a better user interface. While Mac users have always boasted of having a computer with a clean, modern look, this changed with Windows Vista, released on January 30, 2007. Windows Vista has translucent window bars, a search bar on the start menu, and tabs on the bottom of the screen, as well as introducing a feature in which users can scroll ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another factor to ponder is that PCs have more RAM, or random access memory. RAM is memory that programs that are running use actively. Less RAM means programs run slower, so having more RAM is definitely a plus. Windows launches applications faster than Macs, and Windows is far better at 3 D rendering (required for most modern games) (itok.net). Compatibility is definitely a major issue. PC s are compatible with Xbox 360, the top selling console of 2011 (winrumors.com), Linux, and Windows 7 has something called XP mode. XP mode allows the PC user to run Windows XP on their Windows 7. PCs are also more compatible with TVs/big screens, because most Macs require an adapter (www.itok.net). Another topic to think about is the Windows Task Manager. The Windows Task Manager allows you access with a quick shortcut (CTRL SHIFT ESC or CTRL ALT DELETE) to close unresponsive or frozen programs, or to monitor threads, CPU usage, network usages, users, and background processes. Mac s equivalent, Activity Monitor, does not have such a simple access method (the user must search for it in spotlight, then click on it), does not provide as much information, and instead uses Force Quit. PC s alternate to Force Quit is a simple pop up that automatically appears when a program stops responding, possibly saving the user much time and effort. This alternate can be manually triggered by the user. Furthermore, PCs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Equal Pay Differentials The debate of equal pay between men and women has been an ongoing issue for years and is still being debated to this day, the belief that men deserve to be paid more than women solely based on gender, is an outdated opinion that is being addressed through different types of legal laws. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was the first step towards an adjustment of balance in pay for women (EEOC, n.d.). The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is an amendment of the Fair Labor Standards Acts, a federal statute of the United States. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is a U.S. federal law enforced by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and aimed at ending wage mismatch based on sex. . The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was signed into law on June 10, 1963, by John F. Kennedy as part of his New Frontier Program (EEOC, n.d.). The Equal Pay Act of 1963 enforced that, Employers ... These are known as affirmative defenses, Employers have the task of proving factors other than gender are the reason for pay differentials (SHRM.org, n.d.). Congress expressed that sex discrimination, depresses wages and living standards for employees necessary for their health and efficiency, prevents the maximum utilization of the available labor resources, tends to cause labor disputes, thereby burdening, affecting, and obstructing commerce, burdens commerce and the free flow of goods in commerce, and constitutes an unfair method of competition (Wikipedia, n.d.). Due to the growth of women furthering their education and interring into the workforce obtaining positions generally held by men, the Equal Pay Act of 1963 is vital in making sure women are being treated and equally compensated for the work they do in occupations traditionally dominated by men. • 4. Why Saddam Hussein Ruled Iraq Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq for almost a third of the country s existence as an independent nation. Since its beginning, Iraq was divided by ethnicity and tribal structures representing alternative socio political communities in competition with central state government. In fact, Iraq has always been a weak state defined as having just enough power and coercive force for the central government to remain in control and its viability over time depended on its ability to govern and enforce laws. The durability of tribal structures, particularly those in the sparsely populated Sunni portions of the country, made it difficult for the Iraqi government to absorb and integrate them (Crone, 1993). These problems were exacerbated by the faction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process reflected the historic ebb and flow of tribal power, as well as the political durability of tribal structures able to broker allegiance for privileged influence. Powerful Sunni tribes and tribal confederations like the Jubur, Dulaym, Tayy, Khazraj, al Azza, Harb, Maghamis, Mushahadah, Luhayb, and Ubayd became accustomed to receiving significant money and autonomy, as well as privileged positions within government (Otterman, 2003). Giving them these benefits in exchange for their allegiance benefited Hussein, however it also established these tribes as power brokers within the context of post invasion Iraq, something bound to hinder the development of Iraqi democracy and nationalism. If Sunni tribes, representing a third of the Iraqi population, could choose which government to support or require exclusive privileges from their continued acquiescence, the prospect of forming an effective Iraqi democracy seemed to require strengthening the central government by weakening the tribes. However, the ongoing Iraqi insurgency, largely fueled by the same Sunni tribes, drove the United States into adopting policies the reinforced tribal power. • 5. Show Jumping Is A Positive Aspect On My Life Since I was five, I have had a passion for horses and interacting with them. When I was younger, my parents gave me an array of dolls and horse figurines to entertain myself. I always used to ignore the dolls and play with horse figurines. Luckily, my older sister loved dolls so she just sneakily stole the dolls away from me one by one while I played with my horse figurines for hours. I have always admired the strength, beauty and power of horses. My interest in horses has caused me to search through websites and books for new ways to connect with them and finally after hours of searching; I finally found my calling. Many years later, show jumping has become a positive aspect on my life. One important aspect of show jumping is training. Training before a show has taught me many lessons that I can apply to other aspects of my life such as improving my training. While training a use different genres as a student would use a genre to aid them in classifying different texts that share the same characteristics. Videos are used to help gain more insight into show jumping while speeches and books are most commonly used for training. Videos are useful to help me visualize and hear different techniques. It was early on that I discovered my passion for chemistry, math and physics classes which galvanized my hunger for knowledge. In due time, I developed a proclivity for research that was stirred largely by my first mentor, Dr. Daniel Lambrecht, during an American Chemical Society meeting. I was so engrossed in his research on nanocatalysis and piezoelectrics that I walked up to him as soon as the meeting ended and immediately made clear of my interest to join his group. I left my undergraduate career conflicted about whether to pursue a degree in chemistry or chemical engineering. Through a combination of independent research, advice from mentors, and on the job industrial experience, I have realized that my interests align more with chemical engineering. The broad range of career paths and opportunities for technological innovation draws me to the field of engineering. With chemical, physical, and mathematical concepts as well as industrial know how, engineers transform ideas into useful and attainable products that impact the lives of many. • 7. The Parent Child Relationship In many books whatever the literary genre they belong to, the topic of the parent child relationship is often something used and represented. This relation can be represented in different ways depending on the author and the genre but also depending on the effects it will have on the readership and on its goal in the story. A very simplistic and legal definition of what a parent child relationship is can be given through the biological links. However, sometimes the relationship between a parental figure such as an adoptive father/mother and its child is not that easy to understand especially because a link which is different and sometimes stronger than the biological one is created. This is why depending on which parental figure one refers to, parent child relationships can be chaotic, a source of suffering or helpful and harmonised such as the ones in Stephen King s The Shining. They can be represented as a form of unconditional love, involving sometimes to risk one of the parent s life and to brave dangers like in Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu s Carmilla. They can be completely omnipresent and terrible like the ones in Mary Shelly s Frankenstein or they can be very confusing as it is the case in John Ajvide Lindqvist s Let the Right One In. By studying the representations of the relationships between four fathers and their children this essay will try to see how the almost scientific definition of the relation can be applied to some characters of these books and how a more ... As individuals watch daily television, the number of television ads they view daily is significant. However, how do these television commercials shape or affect the gendered roles and norms expected from women? In this paper, we will be analyzing the serious effects and expectations individuals can acquire from commercial ads. Television ads primarily focus on trying to promote an event or sell an item. It was found that the commercial ads within an hour span from 2009 to 2013 has slightly increased from 13 minutes and 25 seconds to 14 minutes and 15 seconds (Flint 2014). Meaning that in just one hour we view on average just 29 television commercials. Despite them being small 30 second commercials, they still can make a big impact on individual s unconscious mind. Today in most advertisements, we see food, beer, or beauty supplies. A strong portion of these commercial advertisements either use women to sell their products or are directed towards women. These ads tend to scrutinize women sexually by objectifying their bodies, persuading them to subject to a beauty standard, and by reinforcing their oppressive gender roles. Take for example beauty supplies commercials such as that of Clean and Clear. Clean and Clear continuously creates new face washes and cleansers they want to sell, and as they advertise these products, they constantly use thin, beautiful women with clear ... Communism is a more complex and advanced version of socialism. This was the time of the Renaissance. He died on the 24th September 1541. During this period of time surgery was practiced mostly by barbers, who used the same tools for both their trades. Medicine was primitive and painful in this era. There was much controversy over how to manage wounds, for example the argument of whether or not pus was good. Cauterization, or the burning of a wound to close it, was the main way to stop bleeding. All in all, most medicinal views were based off of unproved theories. It has been around for several centuries due to it s long lasting durability and beauty. Wrought iron unlike cast iron is not brittle and can be beat in to elaborate designs when heated. When wrought iron gates first came about they were all heated and molded by hand. In this day and age you can still find several blacksmiths who will still do this by hand. However, most of the time it is done in a factory so that they all look the same to provide a seamless look. Genetically modified organisms or GMOs are plants or animals made by splicing the gene and inserting DNA from different species of plants, animals, bacteria, and viruses. These genes would not naturally result in a cross breed. As a result of this biotechnology more than ninety percent of corn, soybean, cotton, sugar, and canola in the US are genetically modified. The extent of human rights protection varies from country to country, with total democracies having most human rights that encompass freedom of speech and expression among other freedoms. These are the most sovereign of laws as they express how liberal and powerful the majority can be as opposed to the minority being powerful in some countries or kingdoms. Most relevant in western civilization, the scarcity of locally grown and produced food is a problem that exists, whether people realize it or not. Per the Food Access Research Atlas, provided by the United States Department of Agriculture, there are 8,959 food deserts in the united states as of 2010 ¹. An Urban Food desert is any location deprived of supermarkets and other access to fresh fruits and vegetables, which usually plagues places of lower socioeconomic status. The low demand for food is attributed to lack of affordability and education, and perceptibly retailers ought not bring their business to places with very little demand for the product. If these deserts are ever to be omitted from the world, it is not enough to hope for the eventual emergence of supermarkets or farms, communities must work together to improve their range of reachable sustenance. It is every person s duty, as a member of humanity, to aid in fixing the problem and ultimately improving the world, which gives way to defining the common good approach to ethical reasoning. Using the common good approach, a simple, yet collectively beneficial solution is the emergence of local gardens/greenhouses, which would largely combat the detrimental dining options of an urban food desert. John Was Preaching Against Rome John was preaching against Rome in Revelation In the late first century a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, John of Patmos, received a vision of the end the world. John later wrote this vision down and his writing has come down to modernity as The Book of Revelation also known as The Apocalypse of John. When John wrote Revelation was he using it as a coded message to preach against Rome? In this vision, John saw many images that could be read as Rome or Roman if viewed from a historical context. Subsequent generations have interpreted the imagery within their own historical context. With this paper I will argue that Revelation pertains to the Roman world and culture that John and his followers were living in, the events in Judea that are thought to have occurred within his life time and that John used some of the same imagery to connect his writing to the Hebrew Bible. There are two main competing dates for the writing of Revelation, an early date of 69 70 and a later date of 90 92. Due to the extreme patriarchal society based in the sixties era, women s voices were often disregarded and silenced. In the historical novel Meridian, by Alice Walker, the main female protagonist, Meridian, struggles to comply with the harsh patriarchal systems set in place in her community, in turn, she uses her silence as a form of resistance. She has various encounters with a man named Truman, whom she is in love with, but fears she s not good enough because of the color of her skin. She begins articulate her thoughts and acting without explanation. To replace her silenced voice, Walker uses third person omniscient and characterization. Meridian is a woman with endless thoughts and questions that she neglects to voice or ask. The root of Meridian s resistant manner stems from the uncomfortable power struggle she has with men, like Truman, because of the expectations of women in the sixties. Men were placed above women and women s opinions were deemed irrelevant. The author s usage of third person omniscient reveals Meridian s subconscious thoughts during moments where her voice is overpowered by a male character. As a result, our fear of communism and of Asia increased dramatically. Dual Store Model Of Memory Essay The concept of the Dual Store Model of Memory was proposed by psychologists Richkard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin with three components: Sensory Register, Working (Short Term) Memory, and Long Term Memory (Ormrod, 2016, p. 164). These components combined make up the entirety of the memory, but each have unique and vital roles that they play in the memory. The sensory register is a massive bank of storage that holds memories of senses sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and how something feels (touch), but it does not store memories for any considerable length of time. The senses that are held here are processed and then they move on to the next component (Ormrod, 2016, pp. 165 167). • 48. Why Attend Law School To illustrate why I want attend law school and become a lawyer, I must first say that I do not remember ever in my life not wanting to be a lawyer. Growing up in a poor neighborhood of a third world country, to poor parents, going to college seemed at times like an unreachable dream. Personally, I consider myself blessed that I was born to an uneducated, yet a smart father, who, thankfully, understood the importance of obtaining an education, even if that meant sacrificing other of the few commodities we could afford as a family. While I can say I had the full support of my family, close friends and even neighbors who bet on me to graduate from law school and become a law professional who will fight their legal battles, I have to say that I also had detractors, who thought I should had study to be a doctor, or an engineer. Faced with the dilemma of not being able to attend school, not having anything to go back to and the responsibility of providing for my family, I decided to do the next best thing I could think of, and joined the US Army. The Jews were forced to live in such extreme conditions they died from sickness, lack of food, or exhaustion. They wernt fed enough and had to sleep in bunks containing many people per bed. Eva outlines the bed bug problem in the following quote. She stated, They were sickening bloodsuckers that feasted off our bodies. There were so many that we would have been covered with them had we not scraped them off immediately. Even so, our skins were pitted with bites and boils from their attacks. The way we had to live was disgusting. This example of how they had to sleep was consistent across all bracks. The bed bugs and lice infestation continued to multiply and people s hopes dwindled in such gruesome circumstances. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Nazi s knew that the more the prisioners feared death the harder they would work. The less that they would complain, and it also mitigated the risk of a revolt. When Eva s feet became so severe that there was no other options she finally folded and went to the hospital, partially because she wanted to see her mother. The medical facilities were less than abysmal. They we downright sickening. People were packed into them like cattle being herded by their owner. Forced to sleep in bunks 3 high, 2 people per bed. • 50. Eugene Ramirez Research Paper Lindsey Ramirez has little to no tact. Lindsey s eyes are sometimes red. Sometimes she reeks of cigar smoke. Like Forest Gump said, sometimes she smells like cigarettes. Lindsey sometimes walks around in public with cigarettes or cigars lodged between her ear and the side of her head, for the entire world to see. Sometimes she stinks like a distillery. Sometimes she smells like beer: sometimes she smells like liquor. It is nothing for Lindsey to pull out a fifth in broad daylight and say, Let s get drunk. Lindsey has very little stage presence. She often acts as if she does not care about her surroundings. She curses and she is loud. She turns ordinary parking lots into movie scenes. She wears her sleeping clothes when she leaves the house and goes to the grocery store. Lindsey loves attention, even if that attention is negative. It is hard to involve her in wholesome family functions because she will turn the best day ever into a most regrettable moment. She always thinks she is right but everyone knows that she is wrong.
