Pros And Cons Of The Treaty Of Versailles
Treaty of Versailles
In January,1919 the allied leaders attended a peace conference to discuss about the peace terms they
would offer to the central power in Paris. Twenty seven victorious Allied powers were present, but the
meetings were dominated by the Winners , Britain, France and USA. Russia was not summoned
because she was not trusted after the Bolshevik Revolution of November 1917 and had already made
peace with Germany. The treaty was crafted so that Germany would be disabled and it wouldn t restart
another war and the country was severely treated as her most worthy assets were taken. The
stipulations of the treaty were categorized into three groups: Territorial, Military and Financial and
economic. Germany was coerced by the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During World War One, Bulgaria was an ally of Germany and the big three were not made to either be
understanding or open handed to Bulgaria. Like Germany and Austria, as other settlements after the
war, Bulgaria was required to shrink its army and pay restitutions. Following the treaty of Neuilly, the
Bulgarian Army was limited to just 20,000 men and was ordered to pay reparations of £400 million.
Under the articles, Thrace (a geographical and historical area in southeast Europe, now split between
Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey) was granted to Greece.
What s more, Bugalria lost its admission to the Aegean Sea, which it had achieved in 1913 in the first
Balkan war. The newly formed kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Kingdom of Yugoslavia after
1929) stretched its eastern borders and gained the Macedonian territory. Southern Doruja was also lost
to Romania.
This treaty was not effective because Bulgaria did not follow it through until 75% was decreased from
it. Upon learning of the terms of the Treaty of Neuilly, the Bulgarian people were furious. However,
they were powerless and couldn t do anything to change the conditions. When World War Two broke
out, Bulgaria sided with Nazi Germany and regained all the land taken from her by the Treaty of
Neuilly. By the time World War Two ended, Bulgaria s effective independence also

Rain Forest Biome
I.S.24 Jaad Shahout 616 6/12/10 Rain forest Biome The average rain fall a rain forest receives is 50 to
260 inches yearly (125 660 centimeters). Rain forest belongs in a wet climate. Its temperature does not
go higher than 93 degrees (34 degrees Celsius) or drop below 68 degrees (20 degrees Celsius). The
rain forests average humidity is 77% 88%. Almost all rain forests are near the equator. Half of all plant
and animal species are in the rain forest. Tropical rain forests produce 40% of earth s oxygen. ¼ of all
plants in the rain forest creates medicine. 100 300 species are in the rain forest mostly in South
America. That would be 2 and ½ acre (1 Hectare). Rain forest Plants There are more than 10 different

Solomon Asch Conformity Experiments (1951) Essay
In 1951, Solomon Asch carried out several experiments on conformity. The aim of these studies was to
investigate conformity in a group environment situation. The purpose of these experiments was to see
if an individual would be swayed by public pressure to go along with the incorrect answer. Asch
believed that conformity reflects on relatively rational process in which people are pressured to
change their behaviour. Asch designed experiments to measure the pressure of a group situation upon
an individual judgment. Asch wanted to prove that conformity can really play a big role in
disbelieving our own senses. Asch initiated his experiment by making one of the particpants at ease.
He asked a serious of elementary questions where the four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The participants seated themselves around a table, these confederates were not known to each other,
and most important concept of this experiment relied on the fact all of the participants were working
together, but for one. They took turns in a fixed order to call out publicly which of three comparison
lines was the same length as a standard line on the left card. In reality only one person was a naive
participant who answered second to last, the rest were experimental confederates instructed to give
erroneous responses. The results were intriguing as there were large individual differences or variation
in responses. However nonetheless what was evident was that 25 percent of participants remained
independent throughout the trials, another 50 percent conformed to the erroneous majority in 6 or
more trials and another 5 percent conformed on all 12 trials. Therefore the average conformity rate
was 33 percent. Asch used quantitative sampling method, which means that a positivist would argue
that quantitative data is more accurate because it is scientific. Positivist approach will ensure that Asch
experiments are reliable, and easily replicated by someone else and deliver same results. Although he
used up to 7 people, Quantitative Data includes statistics and numbers to make his claim for high in

College Admissions Are Pretty Simple
College admissions are pretty simple. They check your GPA and ACT/SAT test scores and see if you
match their expectations. If you do, they will take you. If you don t, they will reject you. What about if
you are stuck in the middle? What if you don t quite meet their expectations, but you don t really fall
below them? What s supposed to be a tie breaker or the cherry on top of the cake is now a very
controversial topic. Being a legacy student can have a significant impact in the admission process, if
you are one. It also gives you a huge advantage over non legacy students. Being a legacy student has
the potential of getting you admitted into the college that you want, even if you don t meet all the
requirements. UW should take legacy into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not saying that universities and colleges only do this for money, they also do this for tradition, better
reputation, loyal students, and an overall appreciation for the college of the university.
Having legacy students at the institution will greatly benefit UW by receiving donations from them.
With colleges and universities becoming businesses, the high rate of monetary support by legacies and
their parents is viewed as crucial for that institution to be financially sound and successful. Moreover,
over three quarters of legacies have a parent with a high status occupation, compared to about 62% of
students with college degree parents and less than one third of students with no degree parents. This
means that the parents of legacy students are usually wealthier than non legacies. This also means that
with wealthier parents, the chance of a donation or donations to the that college or university is most
likely to substantially increase. Moving on, legacies arrive on campus forming a distinct status group
that is characterized by an abundance of economic, cultural and social capital. With economic capital,
they are more likely to participate in activities and spend more money. And that s what colleges or
universities want, more money. By partaking in college or university activities, the student will be
grow fonder of it later on and might donate to support the institution. In the

The Between Groups Design And The Cross Sectional Design...
Summary Hypothesis If a person participates in many daily activities, exercises early daily scheduling,
has consistently scheduled social rhythms, and partakes in activities with active social engagement,
then the person will self report that he or she is a good sleeper. Methods In the study, the between
groups design and the cross sectional design were used for research. There were 243 participants
between the ages of 18 and 39, and the majority were females and Caucasians. The average age was
about 21 years old. The measurements used were the Social Rhythm Metric, the Pittsburgh Sleep
Quality Index, and the Beck Depression Inventory, Second Edition. The PSQI was used to measure
perceived sleep quality within the past month. Once the Sleep Quality Index was obtained, the
participants were categorized as good sleepers (5) based on scale ranging from 0 to 19. The SRM was
used to assess social rhythms. The overall activities performed by a test subject, the number of
activities performed involving social interaction, and the number of activities involving minimum to
no social interaction were analyzed. The SRM also tracked the regularity of activities, so a hit meant
an activity was performed within 45 minutes of the habitual time. The BDI II was used to calculate
participants levels of depression. Participants would be trained to use the SRM, then they would be
given 14 days of SRMs. The diary was to be returned after the 15th day. Thus, 2 weeks of monitoring

Bp s ( British Petroleum ) Oil Spill Crisis
We decided to look closer at BP s (British Petroleum) oil spill crisis in 2010. It is British multinational
oil and Gas Company, their headquarter is based on London, England. According to PFC Energy, it is
the fifth largest company in the world measured by revenues in 2012, and the sixth largest in oil and
gas industry if measured by production in 2012. BP s annual report states that as of December 2013,
BP operates in approximately 80 countries. On April 20, 2010 the explosion and sinking of Deepwater
Horizon oil rig happened, it was located in the Gulf of Mexico. The well was finally capped on July
15, 2010. By that time an estimated 4.9 million barrels of oil had leaked into the Gulf (ocean.si.edu).
This awful tragedy killed 11 people. Unfortunately, this is not the only example of environmental
harm. Companies in oil industry cause various environmental problems. According to
LyndenEnergy.com, exploration, development and production operations of oil and natural gas are
subject to all the risks and hazards typically associated with such operations, including hazards such as
fire, explosion, blowouts, cratering, sour gas releases and spills . Each of these hazards could result in
substantial damage to the environment. Oil business includes so many environmental risks that all its
phases are subject to multiple regulations by federal, state and local laws. As stated at
LyndenEnergy.com, environmental legislation provides for, among other things, restrictions and

Anabolic Steroids in Major League Baseball Essay
Major League Baseball s (MLB) commissioners are debating about the anabolic steroids situation that
is occurring in professional baseball today. To many professionals are getting accused of using the
harmful drug. Professional baseball players are getting tested twice a year for anabolic substances
throughout the course of the regular season. In order to stop steroids in MLB, commissioners should
pass random drug testing. Tony Larussa stated, By having random drug tests, it would make the game
of baseball true once again. Steroids are ruining the game of baseball, and the commissioners need to

Steroids can also cause hair loss, formation of Mini breasts and penile shrinking and low to no sperm
production. Steroids can also cause heart disease, pain while urinating, HIV/aids from sharing needles,
and cancer. Withdraw symptoms also start up after taking roids . Illness, dizziness, vision problems,
anxiety, and depression are just some of the problems that can happen to the body and mind. Steroids
not only affect the body but also the mind too. It is proven that when an athlete takes steroids they
tend to be more of an aggressive person in society s eyes. The advantage of having an aggressive
behavior is that the abuser is more focused and trains more intensely. The bad part about taking
steroids is that the person becomes easily irritated and impatient. Even after an athlete stops using
steroids they seem to develop depression because they experience withdraw symptoms. It is against
federal law to use steroids without a prescription. Professional athletes usually do not think about how
much trouble steroids can give them. In 1990, President George W. Bush signed a bill to put steroids
in the category of methamphetamines, opium and morphine. If someone would get caught using
steroids they could be punished up to one year in prison, a twenty thousand dollar fine, and a year of
drug classes (New Law...). It seems that players are getting bigger, faster, and stronger every season.
Athletes mainly take steroids because they see results faster than

The Role Of Corporate Social Responsibility On Csr
Overtime, stakeholder demands for corporate social and environmental responsibility have been
greatly increasing. According to Girod and Michael (2003,cited in Jones etal,2007 ) CSR is a key tool
to create, develop and sustain differentiated brand names .
The importance and eminence of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) across the business world
started to increase during 1998 2007. Role conflicts often arise when competing demands like
business goals and social goals are in question. The increase in the sense of social
responsibility, stakeholder pressures and concerns for the environment has heightened the focus of
businesses on CSR. A business that fulfils its CSR sufficiently can expect an improvement in its
financial performance, enhanced brand reputation, a reduction in its operating costs, long term
sustainability, a boost in staff commitment, innovation and production, better risk management, good
relations with its stakeholders and development of closer links with customers. However,in today s
world CSR is not being dealt with serious and proper attention hindering the success of
businesses.Business ethics concern the study of proper trading policies and practices regarding
potentially controversial issues. They are guided by law and are based on a certain scheme that
businesses should follow in order to gain public approval and be successful.CSR embraces
responsibility for the behaviour of companies and motivates them to have a positive contribution and

her mom as her mom, she never called her mom because it didn t feel right. Dorothy, made Etta s life
full of pain. She never described her as warm and loving, just rude and immature (Hodgkinson, 2012).
She probably didn t have a good childhood like maybe others had, from having abusive parents and

Essay on The New Negro by Alain Locke
The essay The New Negro by Alain Locke s defines what Locke believes to be the Old Negro and the
New Negro. This paper will compare and contrasts Marcus Garvey The Future as I See it and
Langston Hughes various poems on why Locke would have characterized them as either Old Negroes,
New Negroes, or both. I believe Locke, Garvey , Hughes were determined to see Blacks succeed.
Each writer expresses their idea in their own unique way, but they all wanted freedom, equality, and
respect. For example, Locke would characterize Garvey as the Old and New Negro. For instance,
Garvey writes that it s time for each person to decide on how they will discover freedom. Garvey
writes The hour has now struck for the individual Negro as well as the ... Show more content on

In addition, Garvey writes to the New Negroes about the vision he sees for them. He reminds them
that God created them and because of this you are special and do not allow anyone to tell you
differently. Garvey writes, Remember that you are men, that God created you Lords of this creation.
Nonetheless, Garvey s vision for Negroes was that we can do anything that we set our minds to
regardless of the circumstances that we could face. Garvey writes, Let no man pull you down, let no
man destroy your ambition, because man is but your companion, your equal; man is your brother; he
is not your lord; he is not your sovereign master . (p.1003) Garvey s vision to the Negroes was that
man is not the one you live for, God is the one who will be their with you to the end and he will never
leave you. Also, Locke would characterize Hughes poems as New and Old Negroes. First, in Hughes s
poem Mother to Son; a mother is telling her son that her journey through life has not been easy, but
she will not give up. Hughes writes Life for me ain t been no crystal stair. (p.1292) This mother is
telling her son her life has not been easy but she is still standing. The mother wanted her son to know
no matter how hard times may become don t you give up. Hughes writes So boy, don t you turn back.
Locke and Hughes both were sending the same message; they both were determined to see blacks
succeed.

Comparison of Two Films About King Arthur Essay
Few works of literature or legend are as varied as that of King Arthur and his round table, forever
retold by each generation. Without question, the defining work of Arthurian Literature is Sir Thomas
Malory s Le Morte d Arthur. Morte d Arthur is a compilation of all the King Arthur legends that
existed before Malory. Malory tried to bring all the stories together into one cohesive whole. Morte d
Arthur is a trove of stories about magical encounters and various quests that is loosely centered on the
rise and fall of King Arthur.
Since it was written, there have been countless interpretations and adaptations. Today, we not only
have countless Arthurian books, but many movies on the subject as well. In this paper I hope to

Whoever wields the sword, wields England. It is a symbol of the King s union with the land, the main
point of the film. L etat c est moi, Arthur and the land are one.
In the film, the sword is first given to Uther, who then becomes King. Besides for this, the story of
Uther and Igraine is straight out of Malory. Uther starts a war with the Duke of Cornwall because
Uther so openly desires Cornwall s wife, Igraine. Merlin agrees to give Uther the semblance of
Cornwall so Uther can sleep with Igraine. In exchange for this service, the baby that will come from
the adulterous union will be given to Merlin. An addition of the film is that before Uther walks into
the castle as Cornwall, little Morganna has a vision that her father has died. When Uther comes into
the room where Morganna and Igraine are, Morganna knows who he really is. Later on in the story,
little Morganna watches as Merlin takes baby Arthur away. These scenes work to develop the
character of Morganna and explain why she becomes such a hateful creature
When Uther dies, he thrusts the sword into a stone to prevent his enemies from obtaining it and using
it to claim the throne of England. Whoever pulls the sword from the stone will be king. The land is
then plunged into chaos as various kings and knights fight for the throne of England. The scene where
Arthur pulls the sword from the stone is almost exactly as it is in Malory. When Kay goes to

Trust In Hamlet
Trust is an essential department of every relationship. A healthy relationship needs trust and
dependence on one another. Without trust, doubt and suspicions befall and tension arises between two
people. In the play, Hamlet by William Shakespeare, trust is crucial and very breakable. The main
character, Hamlet, is faced in a conflicting situation in which he begins to question the motives of the
people closest to him, after his father s death. He begins to doubt and suspect people close to him like,
his lover, Ophelia, and his university friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Despite his keen trust
issues, he forms a solid and unbreakable trust with his close friend, Horatio in which he is the only
person Hamlet has ever let through his walls. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have shown no signs of care or worry for Hamlet after his father s death, instead, they turn their
backs on him by following the commands of the King against him for their own benefit. Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern are both commissioned by the King to spy on Hamlet and they easily comply with
him because they care about Hamlet no more than they care about themselves, But we both obey, and
here give up ourselves to lay our service freely at your feet, to be commanded. (2.2.31 34). After his
father s death, he experiences an emotional and mental crisis on whether or not he should trust the
people around him. Shakespeare puts Hamlet and his relationship with his university friends in this
situation as to relay a message that trust is a breakable bond, and that no matter how close Hamlet is to
someone, he has to build his walls around himself so that he won t be vulnerable to their inevitable
attack. He shows that people will do anything, even as far as to betray their friends for their own self
interest, because people are selfish that

The Violence Against African Americans
Black voices around the country were being heard as they protested for their lives. It almost seemed
like déjà vu for the black community. However, this time, unlike in the Civil Rights Movement of the
60 s, the Black Lives Matter movement had a powerful tool in their pocket: social media. The creation
of the hashtag Black Lives Matter galvanized the movement throughout the nation, as posts from
people on both sides of the spectrum spoke out on their thoughts over the current police violence
against African Americans. Although the hashtag originally began on Facebook, the Black Lives
Matter movement has been able to reach a wide range audience through Twitter. On February 26,
2012, George Zimmerman reported a suspicious person in the neighborhood. After dispatch instructed
him not to approach the suspect, Zimmerman did the contrary and a few minutes later gun shots were
fired. George Zimmerman shot and killed an unarmed, seventeen year old African American, Trayvon
Martin. Let it be known that he had no authority to shoot Trayvon, he was simply a neighborhood
watch. He was not a police officer; he was a civilian in charge of overseeing activities at night.
Neighborhood watch have no authority to arrest or take actions typically reserved for police officers.
Later that week, he was arrested for the murder of Trayvon Martin. However, a year later, Zimmerman
was acquitted of the charge for second degree murder. When the verdict was released, Alicia Garza

Importance to Be on Time in the Military Essay example
It is important to be on time, both in the Army and in the civilian sector, for multiple reasons. Among
these reasons, the ones that stand out to me the most are unprofessionalism, being fired, receiving
adverse disciplinary actions, and failing your co workers/comrades. Being late or tardy to work can
cause not only yourself but everyone at your place of employment problems. When being late or tardy,
you are showing that you are not a professional. It can also be assumed that you do not care or respect

Feminism In Canadian History
The 1920s were a brutal time for Canada and most countries in the world. The Great War had just
ended and soldiers were coming home to no work and minimal food. While the male soldiers were
gone fighting the war, females took their place in factories, manufacturing war equipment and doing
regular work that normally men would do. When the surviving soldiers came back, they were furious
and wanted work to make money so most of the women were kicked out and replaced by the men.
Women were obviously not happy about this and fought to make a change. One of the most notable
feminists and successful female suffragists in Canadian history is Emily Murphy. She fought alongside
four other feminists to create equal legal recognition as males and succeeded; ... Show more content

women were eligible to become Senators under the British North America Act. The petition, written in
letter form by Emily Murphy, asked the following question to the Supreme Court: Does the Person in
section 24 of the British North American Act, 1867, include female persons? Section 24 of the British
North American Act, 1867, states that The Governor General shall... summon qualified Persons to the

Emily Murphy also asked the Court, in the same letter, if there Is power vested in the Governor
General of Canada, or the Parliament of Canada, or either of them, to appoint a female to the Senate of
Canada? Unfortunately, the Court responded that the term Persons was synonymous to only males.
However, the Famous 5 appealed to the Privy Council of England, which in 1929 reversed the Court s
decision. The Persons Case opened the Senate to women, enabling Emily Murphy to be

The Use Of Psychological Tactics On Human Behavior
According to the USDA, the average family will spend anywhere from $146 to $289 on groceries per
week. The science behind this outrageous spending cost derives from the basic concept of
manipulation; supermarkets will capitalize on human spending by appealing to their basic nature.
Humans have become oblivious to their spending over the years because walking into a store to
purchase necessities has become more of a privilege than an imperative right. Individuals have the
mindset that name brands are the only product they desire when in actuality, the only difference
between a name brand and the generic product is the logo. Emotional scientist have studied the human
patterns of shopping and broken it down into a simplistic algorithm that encourages humans to
purchase more than they need. Supermarkets use psychological tactics to attract consumers to certain
commodities by exploiting product promotion, availability, placement, and social influence or in other
words, marketing.
An emotional scientist or a psychologist is a professional that studies, identifies, and decides which
products appeal to the human mind more so than others. This psychologist is not your average
Freudian follower he or she will not tell you that you purchase specific products because of sexual
stimulation; rather they will identify certain aspects (color, promotion, etc.) of a product and suggest
these features to go into product promotion. Color preference is a personal attribute that is

Influence Of Popular Culture In The 1960s
Australian popular culture in the 1960s had multiple features, many of which were influenced by the
social changes and counter culture at the time. The primary aspects of Australian popular culture in the
1960s were; music, fashion, film, sport and television. In Australia, the fashion of the 1960s emulated
the political and cultural changes at the time. This fashion revolution was youth driven and showed
their rejection of social standards. For women, the mini skirt came into trend, introduced by fashion
icon Twiggy (Leslie Hornby). This above the knee skirt came into fashion in a revolt against people
telling women how to express themselves and their bodies that came with the womens rights
movement and the introduction of the pill. Men wore tunics, capes and more feminine clothing as
pants became tighter and they dawned silk scarfs. This shift from masculine clothing to dabbling in
the side of feminine, was because of the changing idea of gender and sexuality. Men also tried to
recreate the look of the Beatles; in sharp and clean suits due the bands popularity at the time. Nearing
the end of the 1960s, hippie fashion came into style. This era of fashion was dominated by bright,
swirling colours, tie dye, paisley prints, loose fitting clothing, flowers, peace signs, etc. This change in
fashion was in response to the Vietnam war. People wore their clothes as a political statement,
showing their embracement towards love and freedom. 1960s music in Australia was heavily

As Dorothy enters deeper into the world of Oz, we see the vibrant color of green in the trees and the
shades of yellow and blue in the flowers (Fig. 3). One remarkable aspect of the Wizard of Oz has to be
Dorothy s red, sparkly shoes, the famous ruby slippers. They were originally scripted as being silver
but half way through the production they decided to change it to red to take full advantage of the
capabilities of Technicolor. Another reason why they were changed to ruby red was so they can stand

These substances bring about various changes in the life of the user, more so they impose a substantial

Such organizations as women, fraternal and veteran s organizations come together to help the
community pursue healthy lifestyles. They increase public awareness towards the effects of drug and
substance abuse. This strategy comes in handy in the fight against cocaine abuse in the USA as many
youths are reached through these platforms and they are influenced to change their ways.
Moreover, workplace initiatives is another strategy that the USA has taken to deal with cocaine use in
the country. Many drug users are employed people who have the money to buy these hard drugs.
Therefore, workplace initiatives help sensitizing employees on the negative effects of cocaine use and
the laws concerning drug use so that they are aware of the consequences. This helps reform many drug
users and dealers thus changing for the better.
In my opinion, new strategies should be put in place to address the use of cocaine in the United States
of America. These will help in the fight against hard drugs in America as well as educate the entire
country on the dangers involved in drug dealing. Firstly, the government should include drug abuse in

Oclusion And The Definition Of Occlusion
Occlusion: Occlusion can be defined very simply: it means the contact between teeth . the concept can
be further refined by defining those contacts between the teeth when the mandible is closed and
stationary as the static occlusion, and those contacts between teeth when the mandible is moving
relative to the maxilla as the dynamic occlusion. [1]
there are few terms in occlusion which needs to be explained to understand occlusion in detail.
Static Occlusion: static occlusion is the contact of upper and lower dentition when mandible is not
moving.
Centric occlusion (CO): can be described as the occlusion the patient makes when they fit their teeth
together in maximum intercuspation. Also, known as maximum Intercuspation Position (ICP). It is the
occlusion that the patient nearly always makes when asked to close their teeth together, it is the bite
that is most easily recorded because it is the bite patient is accustomed to, i.e. Habitual bite [1]

Sputnik s Effect On The Space Race
The effect of Sputnik I on the Space Race
Sputnik 1 orbited the Earth every 98 minutes, flying over the United States seven times a day.
(Danielle Burton) During the Cold war the launch of Sputnik I by the Soviet Union in October 1957
created a fear in the United States. The United states feared that nuclear warheads could soon come. In
response the United States created and funded the National Defense Education Act(NDEA), and the

Conformity And Social Conformity
Introduction
Conformity shapes our everyday decisions, whether it is acknowledged or not. How individuals are
perceived by society and our peers puts an immense pressure on a person both in groups and privately,
actively changing behavior that they may not normally take part in. An individual may change their
behavior due to the chance of becoming an outcast. The ultimate fear or possibility of being an outcast
influences individuals to conform to social norms. Psychological researchers have long been interested
in the reasoning behind social conformity. Social conformity can result in the change of behavior or
even the belief of an individual when it comes to them trying to fit within a group. The change can be
due to pressure from a social group. By looking deeper into group size and familiarity, it is possible to
accurately predict behavior for groups and individuals in the future.
In psychology, conformity is defined as the alteration of one s beliefs and behaviors to better match
those around you. There are typically two different forms of conformity, normative and informational.
Normative conformity is becoming compliant to group pressure with the want to fit in. On the other
hand, Information conformity refers to when a person looks to the group for guidance when they lack
knowledge in a certain area. Conformity also can range in different levels such as from how people
dress to how people act in public. This force is what drives even the most simple of decisions that a
person will make on a daily basis. As a result, these individuals conform to other people s behaviors.
For example, just like a public compliance, which is when a person conforms to another s behavior
even if they do not necessarily believe or agree of the person s words or actions. In society, conformity
puts pressure on citizens to either conform to the laws they are given or face legal consequences.
Conformity creates something called group norms , which are an informal set of social rules that are
often unspoken. (Group Norms) When a person violates these norms, they will often find themselves
in conflict with the rest of the group, and can potentially be removed.
Conformity has been well documented and researched, with one of the

The Effects Of The Unification Of Germany And Germany
United
I m going to talk about the unification of Germany and Italy and how these two places went about
unification and how that affected Europe. Also, I m going to compare and contrast the effects that
these two places unifying had on Europe. Before the French revolution both Italy and Germany were
divided into many states, Germany was divided way more than Italy with more than three hundred
states which had to have been harder to unite. Many people don t know about the unification of
Germany and Italy occurred or know that Germany had to do many things to achieve unification and
ultimately start a war and use other wars to work towards the goal of unification. Now looking at Italy
in 1866 Italy signed a pact with Prussia promising support if Prussia went to war with Austria. Prussia
promised to get Venetia for Italy. Eventually several months later, war between Prussia and Austria did
happen. Austria was defeated by Prussia in the Austro Prussian War. In the peace settlement, Prussia
awarded Italy with Venice and the other surrounding territories. They made Florence the capital of
Italy. Wherefore Germany went to war three times to achieve unification. The World Book
encyclopedia says that for hundreds of years Germany lived in separate states, one of the most
powerful was the kingdom of Prussia. During the late 1800 s, Otto Con Bismarck, the prime minister
of Prussia, united most of these states and cities under Prussian leadership. After Bismarck, German

Terrorism And Terrorism In America
No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion
... People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love... ...For love
comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. (Linton) This is a quote inspired/taken
from Mandela, and then tweeted in a series by former President Barrack Obama following a terrorism
rally in Charlottesville that took place August 2017. Terrorism in America is seen as foreigners coming
into the country and causing an uproar that includes countless deaths and injuries; however, terrorism
is already here. Terrorism and terrorist acts happen because of actual citizens in the United States of
America, yet people are not seeing them as acts of terrorism. The Collin s English Dictionary states
the definition of terrorism is, the act of terrorizing; use of force or threats to demoralize, intimidate,
and subjugate, esp. such use as a political weapon or policy (Collins English Dictionary). By this
definition, school shootings, riots that cause destruction, and attacks by American citizens on other
innocent citizens is an act of terrorism. Terrorism is meant to make a statement. While some terrorism
is done out of spite by a mentally disturbed person with erotic thoughts, some attacks are done to
cause an uproar and to scare a population, and others are thought out due to the desire of wanted

Nagel s Epistemological Skepticism Summary
Assignment 8 Philosophy
Nagel uses skepticism to give insight into why people perceive various aspects of life to be absurd. He
compares epistemological skepticism and the absurdity of life by looking in depth how
epistemological skepticism funtions1. Nagel exhibits the behavior of a nihilist and characterises
human actions as meaningless because no matter what we do, we all die in the end so it does not
matter1. Even in the scenario that human actions in the present may impact human life in the future,
Nagel believes that this doesn t define its meaning illustrated in his quote: Furthermore, even if what
we do now does matter in a distant future, how does that prevent our present actions from being
absurd?1 This idea can also be represented in the ideas of truth being a subjective reality and truth ...

Truth as subjective reality refers to what your mind perceives to be truth whereas truth as an objective
reality is that truth is universal for everyone. Nagel as well as other nihilists reject the idea that truth is
an objective reality as he does not believe that human life has actual meaning other than what one
perceives it to be. This distinction relates back to epistemological skepticism as it also questions
objective reality in favor of subjective reality. This connects back to Descartes as he employed
epistemological skepticism in his second meditation2. He thought of a scenario where a demon
deceiver was manipulating the world around him in order to draw false conclusions to lead him astray
from real truth2. This idea is extremely comparable to Nagel s thoughts since Descartes uses
epistemological skepticism in order to question and combat the idea of truth as an objective reality.
While this analogy is very comparable, Descartes and Nagel have many prominent differences in their
ideas. The most obvious difference would be how religion factors into Descartes

beating, he addressed the wrongness of violence, but didn t really directly address the issue of
homosexuality, probably unwilling to directly speak out against

Past, Present and Future for Education System
Past, present and future for education system

From: David H Rhodes, Keeble Park North, Bishopthorpe, York. THE school examination results
have been announced and no doubt many students are rejoicing in what they have attained through
very hard work. Congratulations to them.
This does, however, bring an air of confusion as to the genuine merit and value of the grades attained.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that 50 years ago only a percentage of examinees were passed
in each grade, A, B, etc. If so, it would have had the benefit of stricter marking and no added points
for crude expressions.
Universities would have had a better selection process as there would have been ... Show more content

Can the Prime Minister now admit to the error in maginalising our brightest students and increase the
investment in their future?
We would then improve our commercial, industrial, scientific and professional status in the world and
perhaps improve the calibre of our future politicians and other personnel in governing authorities.
Sad indictment of council s culture policy
From: Alice Sheepshanks, Arthington, near Leeds.
AS the air reverberates with the sound of rock from the Leeds Festival, at Bramham, I sorely lament
the lack of some culture and hope most sincerely that next year it will be possible for Leeds City
Council to support the Leeds Shakespeare Festival again.
It is so important to cater for all tastes, and not just to bow to the lowest common denominator. I
believe wholeheartedly that Shakespeare can be appreciated by all ages and classes, particularly if
performed by this most skilful and dedicated troupe, the British Shakespeare Company.
I have taken my two children (now aged 12 and 14) to the performances at Kirkstall Abbey since they
were quite small. They adored the spectacle, the language, the plot it was a marvellous opportunity for
them.
I feel desperately sad that this year they can wander about at Bramham and listen to the thundering
sound of Metallica and Tenacious D (which they love) but The Tempest or A Midsummer Night s
Dream are out of the question.
What a sad indictment on Leeds City Council.

No More Weird Architecture And Its Effect On The...
Introduction
All kinds of strange landmarks in China has exceeded the Tyrant city: Dubai where its was also
described as the contemporary architectural museum. Chinese cities are entering the era of the
craziest, however, its soon coming to an end.
Last month Xi Jinping s comment, No more weird architecture has caused an uproar in the
construction industry: the Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development is organising expert
discussions will likely strengthen the construction of public buildings in particular approval; local
governments are actively discuss how to implement the spirit of the speech; at the same time, at least
some public bidding projects have begun to be affected; Architects and developers have begun to

In order to understand, we will start looking at Chinese modern architecture from China s construction
boom period when China started to introduce international architects and internal migrant workers,
their influence and affect on Chinese modern architecture.
Background of Contemporary Architecture and construction/ The Globalisation influence
( Chinese modern architecture: more influenced by the west)
In retrospect, this boom is solely responsible for modern China s architectural movement, and this
only truly began in the last 15 years. Just 20 years ago, there were no private architectural firms in
China, only state run institutes. Due to the huge demands of the rapid urbanisation of Mainland China
starting from 2008 olympics, there was a sudden need for architects and planners to facilitate
construction, and this itself forced a transition in architectural production to take place, as the local
workforce both architects and labourers did not possess the necessary capacity alone. This led to an
influx of international architects and migrant workers into China.
One might say that the construction boom is a golden opportunity for millions of people to earn a
decent salary and improve their living standards, moving on from poverty. In fact, the Olympics
attracted millions of migrant workers from the rural villages. From an economics point of view, this is
an opportunity to stimulate the economy

  • 2. Pros And Cons Of The Treaty Of Versailles Treaty of Versailles In January,1919 the allied leaders attended a peace conference to discuss about the peace terms they would offer to the central power in Paris. Twenty seven victorious Allied powers were present, but the meetings were dominated by the Winners , Britain, France and USA. Russia was not summoned because she was not trusted after the Bolshevik Revolution of November 1917 and had already made peace with Germany. The treaty was crafted so that Germany would be disabled and it wouldn t restart another war and the country was severely treated as her most worthy assets were taken. The stipulations of the treaty were categorized into three groups: Territorial, Military and Financial and economic. Germany was coerced by the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During World War One, Bulgaria was an ally of Germany and the big three were not made to either be understanding or open handed to Bulgaria. Like Germany and Austria, as other settlements after the war, Bulgaria was required to shrink its army and pay restitutions. Following the treaty of Neuilly, the Bulgarian Army was limited to just 20,000 men and was ordered to pay reparations of £400 million. Under the articles, Thrace (a geographical and historical area in southeast Europe, now split between Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey) was granted to Greece. What s more, Bugalria lost its admission to the Aegean Sea, which it had achieved in 1913 in the first Balkan war. The newly formed kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Kingdom of Yugoslavia after 1929) stretched its eastern borders and gained the Macedonian territory. Southern Doruja was also lost to Romania. This treaty was not effective because Bulgaria did not follow it through until 75% was decreased from it. Upon learning of the terms of the Treaty of Neuilly, the Bulgarian people were furious. However, they were powerless and couldn t do anything to change the conditions. When World War Two broke out, Bulgaria sided with Nazi Germany and regained all the land taken from her by the Treaty of Neuilly. • 4. Solomon Asch Conformity Experiments (1951) Essay In 1951, Solomon Asch carried out several experiments on conformity. The aim of these studies was to investigate conformity in a group environment situation. The purpose of these experiments was to see if an individual would be swayed by public pressure to go along with the incorrect answer. Asch believed that conformity reflects on relatively rational process in which people are pressured to change their behaviour. Asch designed experiments to measure the pressure of a group situation upon an individual judgment. Asch wanted to prove that conformity can really play a big role in disbelieving our own senses. Asch initiated his experiment by making one of the particpants at ease. He asked a serious of elementary questions where the four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality only one person was a naive participant who answered second to last, the rest were experimental confederates instructed to give erroneous responses. The results were intriguing as there were large individual differences or variation in responses. However nonetheless what was evident was that 25 percent of participants remained independent throughout the trials, another 50 percent conformed to the erroneous majority in 6 or more trials and another 5 percent conformed on all 12 trials. Therefore the average conformity rate was 33 percent. Asch used quantitative sampling method, which means that a positivist would argue that quantitative data is more accurate because it is scientific. Moreover, over three quarters of legacies have a parent with a high status occupation, compared to about 62% of students with college degree parents and less than one third of students with no degree parents. This means that the parents of legacy students are usually wealthier than non legacies. Summary Hypothesis If a person participates in many daily activities, exercises early daily scheduling, has consistently scheduled social rhythms, and partakes in activities with active social engagement, then the person will self report that he or she is a good sleeper. Methods In the study, the between groups design and the cross sectional design were used for research. There were 243 participants between the ages of 18 and 39, and the majority were females and Caucasians. The average age was about 21 years old. The measurements used were the Social Rhythm Metric, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Beck Depression Inventory, Second Edition. The PSQI was used to measure perceived sleep quality within the past month. Once the Sleep Quality Index was obtained, the participants were categorized as good sleepers (5) based on scale ranging from 0 to 19. The SRM was used to assess social rhythms. The overall activities performed by a test subject, the number of activities performed involving social interaction, and the number of activities involving minimum to no social interaction were analyzed. The SRM also tracked the regularity of activities, so a hit meant an activity was performed within 45 minutes of the habitual time. The BDI II was used to calculate participants levels of depression. • 22. The Use Of Psychological Tactics On Human Behavior According to the USDA, the average family will spend anywhere from $146 to $289 on groceries per week. The science behind this outrageous spending cost derives from the basic concept of manipulation; supermarkets will capitalize on human spending by appealing to their basic nature. Humans have become oblivious to their spending over the years because walking into a store to purchase necessities has become more of a privilege than an imperative right. Individuals have the mindset that name brands are the only product they desire when in actuality, the only difference between a name brand and the generic product is the logo. Emotional scientist have studied the human patterns of shopping and broken it down into a simplistic algorithm that encourages humans to purchase more than they need. Supermarkets use psychological tactics to attract consumers to certain commodities by exploiting product promotion, availability, placement, and social influence or in other words, marketing. An emotional scientist or a psychologist is a professional that studies, identifies, and decides which products appeal to the human mind more so than others. • 31. Conformity And Social Conformity Introduction Conformity shapes our everyday decisions, whether it is acknowledged or not. How individuals are perceived by society and our peers puts an immense pressure on a person both in groups and privately, actively changing behavior that they may not normally take part in. An individual may change their behavior due to the chance of becoming an outcast. The ultimate fear or possibility of being an outcast influences individuals to conform to social norms. Psychological researchers have long been interested in the reasoning behind social conformity. Social conformity can result in the change of behavior or even the belief of an individual when it comes to them trying to fit within a group. The change can be due to pressure from a social group. By looking deeper into group size and familiarity, it is possible to accurately predict behavior for groups and individuals in the future. In psychology, conformity is defined as the alteration of one s beliefs and behaviors to better match those around you. There are typically two different forms of conformity, normative and informational. Normative conformity is becoming compliant to group pressure with the want to fit in. On the other hand, Information conformity refers to when a person looks to the group for guidance when they lack knowledge in a certain area. Conformity also can range in different levels such as from how people dress to how people act in public. This force is what drives even the most simple of decisions that a person will make on a daily basis. As a result, these individuals conform to other people s behaviors. For example, just like a public compliance, which is when a person conforms to another s behavior even if they do not necessarily believe or agree of the person s words or actions. In society, conformity puts pressure on citizens to either conform to the laws they are given or face legal consequences. Conformity creates something called group norms , which are an informal set of social rules that are often unspoken. (Group Norms) When a person violates these norms, they will often find themselves in conflict with the rest of the group, and can potentially be removed. Before the French revolution both Italy and Germany were divided into many states, Germany was divided way more than Italy with more than three hundred states which had to have been harder to unite. Many people don t know about the unification of Germany and Italy occurred or know that Germany had to do many things to achieve unification and ultimately start a war and use other wars to work towards the goal of unification. Now looking at Italy in 1866 Italy signed a pact with Prussia promising support if Prussia went to war with Austria. Prussia promised to get Venetia for Italy. Eventually several months later, war between Prussia and Austria did happen. Austria was defeated by Prussia in the Austro Prussian War. In the peace settlement, Prussia awarded Italy with Venice and the other surrounding territories. They made Florence the capital of Italy. Wherefore Germany went to war three times to achieve unification. The World Book encyclopedia says that for hundreds of years Germany lived in separate states, one of the most powerful was the kingdom of Prussia. Even in the scenario that human actions in the present may impact human life in the future, Nagel believes that this doesn t define its meaning illustrated in his quote: Furthermore, even if what we do now does matter in a distant future, how does that prevent our present actions from being absurd?1 This idea can also be represented in the ideas of truth being a subjective reality and truth ... This distinction relates back to epistemological skepticism as it also questions objective reality in favor of subjective reality. This connects back to Descartes as he employed epistemological skepticism in his second meditation2. He thought of a scenario where a demon deceiver was manipulating the world around him in order to draw false conclusions to lead him astray from real truth2.
