FootView 3D Essay
FootView 3D
1. Industry
The industry is a global footwear measurement industry. Globally, footwear retailing is fairly
fragmented and highly competitive, although the market is dominated by large buying groups.
Core activities are value adding services where the foot measuring products enhance the operations
and marketing of the compatible footwear size and even procurement with cost savings information.
2. ConQ is a UK based research and development firm which aims to develop new market and
product opportunities in footwear industry with their key product (Footview3D)

Hence, unlikely that new major organization will emerge. However, new major companies are
responding to increasing number consumers purchasing their footwear online and need of
aggregate data planning. With low capital requirements for processing end of the value chain
make the industry relatively easy to enter by multiple smaller operators. However, in order to have
the system for aggregate data, high initial investments and fixed costs are required to incur for
sophisticated measuring tool. Hence, in order to achieve economies of scale, only major players
are able to enter the market for profitable operations.
2. Bargaining power of suppliers: Low Medium
Shoe retailers have considerable bargaining power over footwear measurement suppliers. It is a
value adding component to existing footwear to have measuring tools. It s not a must to have a
measuring tool. The existing market is dominated by US Brannock Device Company, and other
cheaper alternatives.
3. Bargaining power of Customer/buyer: High
Large footwear retail chains and their buyer power is high as they have the ability to buy in large
quantities for all retail outlets and control many access points to the final customers. As the
investment in sophisticated foot measurement tool is not viable for small retailers, only major
footwear retail chain exists. Also,

The Horrors of a Slave Ship
The Horrors of a Slave Ship, describes in detail, the tragic experiences of Olaudah Equiano as a
captive slave. Equiano suffered many sleepless nights; he was flogged and kidnapped multiple
times. In the article, the author is trying to give the reader the feeling by giving details of the
brutally floggings and desperation as many slaves suffocated to death as they were placed in an
overcrowded deck. Overall, the author tries to give readers their point across of the difficulties
in being a captive slave. At age eleven Equiano s happiness had a turning point as he was
kidnapped along with his sister. They were treated brutally and were forced to do dangerous jobs.
If orders were not followed, they were flogged unmercifully. Later,... Show more content on

I never thought being a slave was as much as this. I knew they suffered, but not as much as them
preferring death over being alive. I can picture the situation as a horror scene as many slaves
shrieked, groaned, and cried as they died of diseases or maybe of hopelessness. After I read this
article, I ve been interested in other stories about slave ship. The fact that Equiano bought his own
freedom makes me realize that slaves having a position in liberty was not easy or given to
anybody easily. It came to the moment in their lives where they lost hope in being happy which
at some point in their lives, life was not taken seriously. Like Equiano, many slaves did not fight
back or tried to escape. There was no point in fighting for their lives. Either way, they would have
to die and suffer. I believe that most of the slaves reason for their death was the loss of hope they
had for their lives. This is a good article to get readers attention and open their eyes to be thankful
for what they have which is freedom, food, and a family. None of the slaves could enjoy what
we have. They spent most of their lives working and serving others than being close to their
families. Overall, The Horrors of a Slave Ship have impacted readers and also me in a way that
we can see more than just a daily workforce. I know there are millions of other slaves than just

The Differences of the Child Welfare Policy in the United...
The underscoring concept to social work practice the pursuit towards a socially just society.
Social workers serve the purpose of enriching society by enhancing social justice and eliminating
social oppression. Mandates and mission statements support these objectives within social
service agencies both in for profit and nonprofit sectors. One thing that every social service
agency has in common is the overarching ideology that shapes the society they serve and more
specifically, ideology influences the way an agency can conduct its services. Philosophy in most
cases only goes as far as policy allows it too. This paper will examine the similarities and
differences from western child welfare policy in the United States (US) and look... Show more

1974 marked the introduction to legislation that captured child maltreatment and enabled funding to
support and develop child abuse reporting systems and procedures for managing maltreatment
reports. From the introduction of legislation through time new policies were developed to adhere to
the provisions of adoption, family preservation, and family support. Similar to other developed
countries in child welfare, visions for community caring systems are developed for families and
maintaining children in their own community as initial responses. Family centered practice, culture
connection, and community continuity are viewed as important variables to serve the best interest
of a child.
In the US, African American and American Indian children are overrepresented in the child
welfare system. There is a lack of cultural competence which can lead to inaccurate assessments
(Velazquez, 2011). If biological families need to stay together and child welfare should make this
a priority than perhaps the US isn t the best at modeling this behavior. According to Gilbert(2011)
in the 1990 s policy seemed less concerned with birth families and more about children s
opportunities to live in new families created through adoption (p.24). This appears to work against
the parents working to regain custody because the system demonstrates an interest in looking to
place children opposed to working with families towards reunification.

Essay on Comparison Between the Great Gatsby and Ebb Sonnets
A deeper understanding of aspirations and identity emerges from considering the parallels between
the Great Gatsby and Browning s poetry . Compare how these texts explore aspirations and identity?
Both the texts The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Sonnets from the Portuguese by
Elizabeth Barrett Browning explore the ideas of aspirations and identity developing a deeper
understanding of the texts. Both texts share these ideas through the characters and the values of
idealism and hope, and personal voice and identity. Although the two texts are separated in time and
context, they both reflect the world of the text and composer.

She continues to list her idealized love in Sonnets 43 and 14, stating that love should be pure as
men turn from praise , a love which people endure because it is right and correct. She again through
imagery demands the purity of genuine love that can grow through time and endure on, through
loves eternity . This clearly explores the idea of aspirations, hope and idealism within the sonnet
sequence.
The Sonnet sequence also involves the idea of identity with Barrett Browning coming to terms
with her emerging sexuality and realisation of love. The sequence was written by Barrett
Browning thus providing a personal voice to the sonnets allowing a portrayal of the sequence of
events of her personal identity and expression of love. Throughout the sonnet sequence Browning
develops a stronger sense and realisation of her love for Robert, hence shaping her identity. By
sonnet 43 a series of elements introduced by the simple phrase I love thee where the repetition
intensifies the affirmation, she declares that her love is free and pure and possesses passion. Most
importantly Browning now holds a sense of identity as she has achieved her idealized type of love.
The Great Gatsby was written in the early 20th Century during the period known as the Roaring

The Advocacy Of Women s Rights On The Grounds Of...
Feminism. The advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic
equality to men. Why are some people so angry or offended when they hear this word? Why
does the idea of women being equal to men annoy and infuriate them? Do they not believe that
women should have the same rights as men? Should women have to cover up to avoid being cat
called by disgusting men? Should women have to cover up to avoid being molested or raped?
Should women have to stay quiet when they are raped or abused because no one would ever
believe them? Should womanbe told what to wear, say, or do with their body? I ask myself these
questions every day. The question that I ask myself the most is, Why are women of color, gay, and
transgender women constantly being disrespected?
Woman as a whole get disrespected on a daily basis. We get cat called, get told what to do with
our bodies, victim blamed, our bodies are over sexualized, and were viewed as weak and just a
piece of meat. Being a woman is already scary enough but being a gay, transgender, or woman of
color is the most terrifying experience. Its seems as if the more melanin your skin contains, the
more disrespect you receive. Why is that? Although being a woman is hard, being a white woman
gives you so much more privilege than what a woman of color gets. First of all, white woman are
seen as beautiful and attractive because of their skin. They aren t constantly told that their skin is

A Report On Summit Electronic Supply
1. Summit Electronic Supply was in need of new systems that could mend some of their unique
business process problems. Summit s line of business involves being the distributor of electronics
equipment to electrical contractors, giving the company a high volume of transactions and
inventory turnover (Laudon, 2013). The most important processes for Summit included stock
keeping units and order transactions. As a distributer, Summit s main concern was to fulfill its
orders on time. To do so, Summit needed to have meticulous records of the location and
availability of its products. Summit sold a high volume of cable and wires that were hard to keep
track of. Since these materials were sold in lengths, (e.g. 500 feet of cable), it was vital to keep
track of exactly how much inventorywas left. Another important process of Summit were its sales
chargebacks. Sales chargebacks are when a supplier sells a higher wholesaler price to the distributor
than the price the distributor had set with the retail customer (Laudon, 2013). Keeping track of
chargebacks was vital to the company as it ensured that no extra revenue was lost. Another
important business process for Summit was its warehouse accommodations. Summit would set up
temporary warehouses to supply large customers with long term job sites (Laudon, 2013).
2. Summit s outdated legacy system made it very difficult for the company to continue its
performance. First, the company s old system made it nearly

Margaret Sanger And The Comstock Act Of 1873
Margaret Sanger and the Comstock Act of 1873 Rough Draft
The U.S. women s movement had its beginnings in 1848 when Elizabeth Cady Stanton and
Lucretia Mott called the Seneca Falls Convention in New York to discuss the social, civil, and
religious condition and rights of woman (Women s History in the U.S....). Over time, this inspired
many women to stand up for their own beliefs and for the better for women in future generations.
During World War I, the high birth rates led to food and supply shortages, and disease which
mainly affected those in poverty (Putting Margaret Sanger s Ideas in Context). At the time, a
woman s life revolved around bringing food home and onto the table which became an issue with
the lack of supplies and the best foods would be given to men (Comstockery in America). As a
nurse visiting, Margaret Sanger witnessed and met immigrant working mothers who were deeply
impacted by unexpected pregnancies and botched miscarriages (Amory). Margaret Sanger violated
the Comstock Act of 1873 of 1873 because she wanted to advocate women s rights which resulted
in a conflict between Sanger and the those against her ideas, and the laws that suppressed her from
advocating. As a result, as a compromise of the amendment of the Comstock Act after she gained
support from her article and supporters which resulted in Planned Parenthood, the ability to
distribute contraceptives, and a new found support for women to have more control over their lives.

Essay on Feminism in Dubliners
| Feminism in Dubliners|
Mrs. Atkins; English A3
Tuesday, May 25, 2010
James Joyce s book of short stories entitled Dubliners examines feminism and the role of women
in Irish society. The author is ahead of his time by bringing women to the forefront of his stories
and using them to show major roles and flaws in Irish society, specifically in Eveline and The
Boarding House . James Joyce portrays women as victims who are forced to assume a leading
and somewhat patriarchal role in their families. He uses them to show the paralysis of his native
land Ireland, and the disruption in social order that is caused by the constant cycle of abuse that he
finds commonplace in Ireland. Joyce is trying to end the Victorian and archaic view of ... Show

This is seen when the narrator speaks about the story of the field that Eveline, her brothers, and
another family s children used to play on which was bought by a man from Belfast in order to
build a house. Another example, is how she and her brothers would play out in a field, and her
father would come to hunt them in out of the field with his blackthorn stick (34). This also
symbolizes the discord of family relations, and the premature annihilation of her childhood
innocence by her father and the premature end of innocence that is caused by abusive men to
their children in Ireland. Eveline is also denied the basic right to love and affection by her own
choice. She finds a man who loves and values her, and is the exact opposite of her abusive father.
Frank represents the opportunity for escape and a break in the cycle. She finally has an
opportunity for a new life, and she chooses to stay in Ireland to take care of her father and
brothers. Eveline s choice to stay in Ireland, rather than to leave with Frank can be seen as a
result of the lack of self worth and mental constraints set on her by her father, which parallels the
fact that Ireland s paralysis is caused by the abuse of male authority roles. Eveline feels tied to her
father, in the same way a hopeless chained animal who knows no better than to wait patiently and
endure. The illusion of captivity was so complete that even though she had an opportunity to escape
her cage , she chose to stay in it.

Double Aces will lease equipment such as gaming tables and computer software to franchisees
because these are proprietary to the franchise operating system. Quality control and easier training
are the advantages of leasing equipment. It ensures all the franchisees are using the equipment that
meets the standard. Also, it would be easier and less costly for DA to train employees from
different franchises because all the equipment is identical. DA trainers will not have to study
different operation manuals of equipment from different brands. Domino s Pizza requires its
franchisees to buy the necessary ingredients and supplies from an approved list of suppliers in order
to ensure consistent quality throughout its franchise system. [ ] Therefore, DA will also require

As you transition from using the spoon to your hands when mixing the dough, you will notice that
the dough will end up with a rugged look. Be sure to clean the sides of the bowl with the dough.
With the dough ready, it is now time to move on to kneading.
Step 3: KNEADING THE DOUGH To begin kneading, you must lightly sprinkle flour on a wooden
surface or counter, about 1 tablespoon. Cover your hands with flour and plop the dough on the
working area. Hold one side of the dough with one hand and stretch the top portion of the dough
with another hand without tearing it. Turn the dough and continue kneading for 8 to 10 minutes
until the dough is smooth and stretchy. Add flour to the dough if it still is sticky and toss it 2 to 3
times during kneading.
Step 4: FERMENTING THE DOUGH Once the dough has been kneaded, it is time to allow the
yeast in the bread to rise. First, settle the dough in the original mixing bowl that is lightly spread
with flour. Tapping the dough with lightly buttered fingers is not necessary, but will prevent the
dough s surface from drying up. With a dry towel, cover the bowl and place the it in a warm area
around 80 85oF for 1 hour. The dough should be twice its original size once finished rising. A tip

Aestheticism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
The Picture of Dorian Grey In The Picture of Dorian Grey, Oscar Wilde, sets out to show the
influence of aestheticism in late Victorian era. The philosophy of aestheticism was that art
should be judged purely by its beauty and form rather than by any underlying moral message art
for art s sake that art merely exist to be beautiful (Buzwell). In writing the preface of the novel
Wilde writes, all art is quite useless. (Wilde 4) This statement is in contrast to the events that
take place in the novel. The artwork reflects the evil actions of Dorian Grey and a myriad of
characters are impacted by the influence the portrait has on its subject. As the novel begins
Basil Hallward is in awe of Dorian Grey. It is apparent that Basil Hallward admires Dorian s
physical beauty to excess. He paints the young handsome gentleman with enthusiasm. Basil s
artistic expression creates a masterpiece. When first describing Dorian to Lord Henry, Basil
describes how Dorian has become integral to his artistic expression, suggesting that Basil s
interest consists most essentially in Dorian s physical beauty, since that can be represented in
Basil s art. As Basil is finishing the portrait and once he is done, almost everything that he says to
Dorian is flattery of Dorian s beauty. Dorian becomes in love with the painting and with his own
beauty. He grew more and more enamoured of his own beauty, more and more interested in the
corruption of his own soul. Basil is

Tidal Energy
Introduction
Climate change refers to any long term change in Earth s climate, or in the climate of a region or
city. This includes warming, cooling and changes besides temperature. (NASA Oct.2011) Earth is
going through the climate change of global warming. Climate change is causing a big threat that
would cause great catastrophe to the world and this problem will influence everyone around the
world. These changes are caused by the greenhouse gases which are produced when burning fossil
fuels and transportation. When fossil fuels are burned, they generate a fair amount of energy for
people, but at the same time, produce large amounts of pollution that damages our Earth. To slow
down climate change, we need to start making changes and shift our sole energy source from
burning fossil fuels to an alternative renewable energy source. While tidal energy is an interesting
technology and is capable of providing us a carbon free society, but it can never generate enough
energy to reduce the burning of fossil fuels because of the massive cost for the project and there is

Tidal energy is converted based on the movements of tides. Tidal poweris the result of Earth s
rotation combined with the sun and moon s gravity. The tides come mostly from the Moon s
gravity and a little from the Sun s gravity. So as the Earth rotates, the ocean surface rises and
falls. Compared to nuclear reserves or fossil fuels, the resource of tidal energy will not run out or
end unless the sun and moon does. Usually, there are two high tides and two low tides each day.
With all the water moving up and down, we can capture the kinetic energy from the tides. It works

However, Hurston s writing also creates a positive perspective on black culture. Hurston
describes the town in the Everglades through the eyes of Janie, writing that no matter how rough
[joking and teasing] was, people seldom got mad, because everything was done for a laugh , and
everybody loved to hear Ed Dockery, Bootyny, and Sop de Bottom in a skin game (134). Rather
than showing the town s lack of seriousness in a negative way, Hurston depicts the town as full of
laughter, love, and lighthearted games. The characters of Ed Dockery, Bootyny, and Sop de
Bottom live in the Everglades with Janie and Tea Cake and are a central part of the community.
Even though the Everglades town is stereotypically black, Hurston presents this town and its
blackness in a positive light. In addition, Janie is accepted quickly by the town; she can listen
and laugh and even talk some if she wanted to and can tell big stories herself from listening to the
rest (134). In Eatonville, whose African American residents act less stereotypically black and
pretentiously try to emulate white people, Janie is unable to assimilate in such a community.
However, the more stereotypically black town in the Everglades is much more accepting
towards Janie. By presenting the culture of the Everglades in a favorable way from Janie s point
of view, Hurston shows pride for conventional black culture. The town in the Everglades is also
illustrated as lively and jubilant; specifically, nights in the town have pianos living three lifetimes
in one , blues made and used right on the spot , dancing, fighting, singing, crying, laughing,
winning and losing love every hour . The town s residents work all day for money, fight all night
for love , and the rich black earth cling[s] to bodies and bit[es]

Employee Empowerment Contributes to an Organizations Success
Introduction
Empowerment is a powerful tool that companies give to allow each employee to become a decision
maker. When empowered employees truly understand their potential, there is almost an immediate
positive reaction in the both the company and the individual. For a company to realize success,
employees must be trusted and empowered to make business decisions that are in line with the
company s governing policies.
The objective of this paper is to provide a better understanding of why and how employee
empowerment is critical to run a successful operation. Employees and employers both gain positive
results when the empowerment process has been successfully implemented in an organization. To

You enable your employees to succeed by providing them with the means, opportunity and capacity

For empowerment to come to fruition, it can take years before all the pieces are correctly
administered and functioning on their own. Patients and understanding must be displayed as new
employees are brought on board and setbacks happen. The worst actions an organization can take
are to stop embracing the free thinking of their employees and to discontinue training. Organization
must keep their workforce engaged. As Gilbert Jamison (n.d.) wrote Bottom line, creating and
sustaining a culture of excellence cannot be achieved without fully engaged employees who feel a
part of the organization, and that they are truly valued contributors to the success of the
organization. Organizations must support their teams consistently, provide ample training to new
employees, and follow up with continuous training to keep the employee engaged. Support from all
areas and a collaborative environment must be established to embrace creative thinking. With
patients and time, the organization will become self managed through employee empowerment.

citizens with the use of technology. Technology has advanced in many shapes and form, which
has opened the doors for the government to respond to citizens in a timely manner. For citizens,
they can make the use of services provided online to save time and money. For example, Motor

The Musculoskeletal diagnosis for this case study is a Right Above Elbow amputation. An Above
Elbow amputation is an amputation from the supracondylar region to the axillary fold
(www.orthrofrocs.com). An individual loosing an arm will be faced with many challenges, more
so with loosing it above the elbow. The ability to preserve the length of the limballows for better
movement, and enhances the fit of the prosthesis(emedicine.medscape.com). The more proximal the
amputationthe less functional the stump will be. This amputation will cause the loss of the hand,
wrist elbow, but good shoulder function will continue( Deverix, Papdapoulos, p.656). The most
common cause of an amputation above the elbow is Trauma(Ganz, Gulick, Smurr , Yancoseck)....

Reflecting on Religious Expression and School Prayer Essay
This country is comprised of individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic groups,
sexual orientations, and faith traditions. Whether it relates to race, class, religion or any other
category where one resides in the dominant group, it is tempting not to become oppressive and fail
to show mutual respect to the diverse cultures and beliefs of other groups. Furthermore, as
educational leaders, we must be equipped with knowledge around policies related to the above
mentioned, so that we can enforce such and build upon those that need refining.
In reflecting on religious expression and school prayer, it is important to realize the current legal

Any school promotion or endorsement of a student s private religious activity is unconstitutional.
There have been various acts across schools within this country to discriminate and demean students
within schools because they follow faith traditions different than that of the dominant group. Thus,
it is important to realize that though as a school body one cannot endorse or promote one religion or
faith tradition over another, as educational leaders we also should not engage in discrimination and
disrespect for faith believes that do not align with ours or allow other students and staff to engage in
such. Rather we must work to promote multicultural acceptance and mutual respect, celebrating the
rich diversity among all individuals and groups.
Landmark Cases
There are three landmark cases most relevant to the discussion on religious expression and school
prayer. Engle v. Vitale is a case where the Court held that recitation of a prayer composed by the
New York State Board of Regents, which was to be said in the presence of a teacher at the
beginning of school each day, was unconstitutional and in violation of the Establishment Clause.
School District of Abington Township v. Schempp presents a case where the Court held that
reading the Bible for sectarian purposes and reciting the Lord s Prayer in public schools during
normal hours were unconstitutional; however, the Court asserted that the Bible could be read as

The Bats Reproductive Technique And The Evidence For An...
The New Zealand Lesser Short tailed bat (Mystacina tuberculata) is an endangered bat, endemic
to New Zealand. It diverges into three subspecies, of which two are endangered and one is at
risk (Department of Conservation [DOC], 2012). It is one of three original native bat species in
New Zealand with only two of those species still found today. The Lesser Short tails are
microbats, with pre foraging adults weighing between 10 to 22 grams (Carter Riskin, 2006). An
adult body length can extend up to 70mm and with an average wingspan between 280 300mm
wide (Carter Riskin, 2006). They have a brown grey coat colour that lightens in the ventral areas
and similar skin colour (Carter Riskin, 2006).
Due to its endangered status, understanding the Lesser Short tailed bats reproductive cycle is
essential in helping conserve the species and stabilize the population. This essay will explore the
bats reproductive technique and the evidence for an annual cycle, which can be seen to make
anatomical, behavioural and physiological changes to the bats (Racey Entwistle, 2000). The male
anatomical and physiological changes have not had a sufficient in depth study, however their
behavioural changes a can clearly be seen (Krutzsch, 2000). On the other hand female anatomical
and physiological changes have been explored a little more and there is more information available
on those changes. Changes include behavioural courtship, anatomical and physiological fluctuation

Christopher Barry Research Paper
How do the directors Christopher Barry and Charles Palmer express science fiction in the Doctor
who original serial (1965) and reboot (2007)?
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television program that has been produced by the BBC
since 1963. The original series aired from 1963 until 1989 and was revived in 2005 with a new
series and numerous spinoffs. The protagonist in both the original and the reboot, is The Doctor

time travelling space ship called the TARDIS, (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space). Many
companions are introduced over the series to accompany The Doctor. To explore the differences

Barry and Palmer use contrasting cinematic techniques within their episodes to explore and
emphasise the concepts of science fiction. In The Rescue Barry uses a medium shot to film the
majority of the episode and uses various panning shots to set the scene while Palmer uses low
shot angles and two shots to emphasize drama in events. Barry uses a panning shot in the first
scene to show the inside of a crashed spaceship, this is used to set the scene of the episode and
introduce technology in the following scenes. Whereas Palmer uses a medium close up of Martha

Introduction. The Bible Is One Of The Bestselling Books

The Bible is one of the bestselling books in the world, for this reason it is incredibly important for
Christians and non Christians alike to examine the reliability of the text. Because the nature of this
paper is rather short, the historical evidence outlined will be brief and not all inclusive. This paper
will examine the writings and thoughts of many great people including Joshua McDowell, J.
Walter Wallace and William Craig. For the purpose of clarity when discussing the Bibleor

goal of this paper is not to prove the Bible is the Word of God, a message from God, or inerrant,

Old Testament scribes copied each manuscript meticulously, counting every letter and
comparing it with the original (McDowell 1992, 50 51). If there was even a single error the
copy was discarded and they began anew. Not only were these manuscripts incredibly accurate
they also were numerous. The New Testament has over 24,000 manuscripts with the earliest
copy dating about twenty five years after the original (McDowell 1992, 52). In comparison,
Homer s Iliad, one of the most historically accepted manuscripts, has only 642 manuscripts with a
500 year gap between the original and the first surviving copy. Since Homer s Iliad is considered
reliable it seems the New Testament should also be considered a reliable copy of the original.
SUPPORTING EVIDENCE #2
The reliability of the Bible as a historical document is the first form of evidence which points to
the reliability of the Bible as a whole. The most trustworthy records of history are eyewitness
accounts, writings of those who had a trustworthy source (such as an eyewitness), and archeological
findings (Bowman 1965, 15). The Bible has all three of these evidences present. For instance,
Exodus, Jeremiah, and Matthew are all examples of accounts written by firsthand eye witnesses.
Luke and Acts were written by Luke who was a friend of many eyewitnesses. Furthermore, even
eyewitnesses who were antagonistic towards Christians, such as Josephus, affirmed the truth

Themes In Doubt By John Patrick Shanley
In the novel Doubt by John Patrick Shanley, he creates doubts in readers minds that have us
turning the pages curious of what will happen next. This topic is important in the book because
doubt is one of the biggest themes in this novel, it can be apart from all other themes in the book.
Doubt creates a lot of different opinions from people, and raises a lot of important discussions. It
creates doubt in readers minds whether or not Father Flynn is guilty, he does this by showing us
different sides of characters and making us feeling uncertain about our beliefs.
In John Patrick Shanley s novel Doubt he opens us up to a whole bunch of different characters,
you have Sister Aloysius who is the stern traditionalist and then you have the complete opposite
Father Flynn who is a very fun, kind, and progressive person. Sister Aloysius thinks that Father

Credit allowed average income families to purchase new products. However, the apparent
success of the credit system did not conceal the damage it had imposed on the financial wealth
of the United States. During the Roaring Twenties, the economy was booming at its highest.
Families enjoyed larger paychecks for shorter work hours and days. New commodities were
introduced to the consumer market. Even though wages were rising, a new economic plan,
called credit, was instituted. Instead of direct buying, an initial deposit was required with
weekly or monthly installments. People who could never afford new inventions such as radios,
cars, or electric household appliances, were able to purchase these items on credit. The cultural
divide between geographically separate areas was bridged through these new innovations.
Through the radio, people all over the country were listening to the same songs and dancing the
same dance Credit helped the economy by increasing the demand for domestic goods. But the
success of credit masked the damage it had imposed on the economy. Credit began to have a
negative effect on American families. Buying products on credit meant paying in installments.
Soon families were unable to pay back the debts they owed. Another negative effect was buying
stock on margin. Stock brokers began to buy stock on credit as well. The stock market peaked at
its highest at this time after a period of wild speculation. Money was being heavily invested in the
stock market without any regard for the invested company. Once the value of stock began to
decline, investors began to sell all of their stock before the price hit rock bottom. The demand for
stock was at its lowest and investors were left with nothing. On the other hand, margin stockholders
were worse off and left bankrupt. Even margin investors sold their stock, the value had depreciated

hopefully see for myself why this stock and other financials have performed so well over the past

It went on to mention that BAC had been struggling with regulatory changes from the previous

BAC s position moving forward. (The Wall Street Journal, 2017, n.d.).
Now, according to the latest data from Investopedia, BAC s Price to earnings ratio, (P/E) is
17.56, which is a high, and I like to keep P/E ratios for companies that I invest in at lower than 14,
but since a lot of this growth has occurred since my initial investment, I am ok with its high P/E
ratio, although BAC may be a stock that needs to be considered for profit taking by any investor
who bought this stock prior to last year. Another consideration for a potential BAC investor is the
fact that BAC pays a dividend. Before an investor should consider buying or selling a stock, it
should always contemplate how dividends should be incorporated in that decision. BAC current
pays a 1.44% annual dividend. (Investopedia, 2016, n.d.). While 1.44% may not seem like a lot, it
is attractive to me as an investor because that extra percentage can cover a large portion of the fees
involved with trading stocks. I think people tend to overlook these important details when
considering an investment.

right corner of the room. One of the reasons I chose not to live on campus was for the reason I
did not want to share a room with someone I have never met beforehand; furthermore, I did not
want to share a runty compact space. Whereas now, I know I would have enough of my own space.
Eventually, Sydney and I started to walk to her four o clock Math lecture with Dr. Hoyt. For me,
this was what I had anticipated the most. I commute to college every day, besides the weekend, and
wanted to see how far her classes were going to be. To my surprise, Sydney and I had to walk up
only three flights of metal stairs and it took approximately six minutes to walk to the correct
hallway. I was making my way to the class, as I observed kelly green, Ohio University, activity
flyers posted on beige bulletin boards along the hallways. Like a flock of geese, students stood in
front of these bulletin boards trying to figure out what they were going to do later in the day.

network code, as well as any SMS messages, and much more useful information.
I. How to Perform a Sound Experiment
There is a guideline proposed by the UK Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) that
defines some rules for the handling of digital evidence [10]. The device must be kept separate
from the network, and the investigation process should be properly planned. The functionality
of the tool or software must be known also for having a secure wireless connection with device
in order not to delete any information while running it [4]. A dummyrun approach can be used
with same type of device under investigation. The device must be seized and analyzed by well
trained persons. In Subscriber Identity Module Analysis law enforcement collects the network
and user data through various types of SIM. Integrated Circuit Card ID (ICCID, International
Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI), Mobile Country Code (MCC), Mobile Network Code
(MNC), Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Number (MSISDN) and Abbreviated
Dialing Numbers (ADN) analysis is performed on SIM. Using forensics software and sophisticated
tools which can retrieve data logically or directly from a mobile device can result in valuable
evidence. The growing industry of mobile phones is creating a challenge for forensics investigators
to be able to extract evidence at all even when using different tools. Forensics tools should be
developed with advancement in technology.

Wilfred Owen s Diction
Wilfred Owen s diction creates unusual and horrific view of war, and its consequences. Owen
begins the poem with What passing bells for these who died as cattle (1). Owen sees the dying
soilders as cattle, which make it seem inhuman, and death with no cause, making human seem like
animals. Owen also uses these instead of those, creates a sense of closeness, putting the reader on
the battlefield. He continues Only the monstrous anger of the guns / Only the stuttering rifles rapid
rattle (2 3). Owen uses personification of the guns making them a monstrous anger, which creates a
violent and gruesome itea. The personification of the gun creates a complete opposite switch, where
humans have become animals and items have become humans. The... Show more content on

The passing bells in the first line is a reference to how the church used to ring the bells when
someone died. Owen states that the soldiers that die in battle do not get the lovely church bells,
but the continuation of rifles firing. The soldiers deaths are not recognized until the soldier
returns home, families try to make sense of their senseless death with rituals, songs, and
funerals. The pallor of girls brows shall be their pall (12). Owen shows a girl that was left behind
after the soldier s death. Owen replaces the common placing of pall on the coffin with a grieving
face, meaning that instead of the pall, the girl s face will be metaphorically draped over the coffin
signifies the girls greef. Owen wants the reader to see the real suffering that war causes by showing
the weight of the girls sorrow. Owen ends the poem with, And each slow dusk a drawing down
of blinds (14). Owen reinforces the thought of death in the last line with the settling of dust. The
closing of the blinds is symbolic, and shows how the people at home keep the realities of war
out of their minds. Owen is also showing how people do not take responsibility for their actions.
Owen choose to have the blinds close themselve, so no one is to blame for the closing of the
blinds. It could also simply be a symbol of someone mourning by themselves in their own

Kate Chopin s The Storm
Basically, the setting in the short story of Kate Chopin The Storm presents a clear demonstration
of an illicit but a romantic love affair. Indeed, the title has been used perfectly to signify the
adulterous love affair. Most importantly, it is evident that the storm has not been used as a mere
coincidence but instead it has been used to steer the story and the affairforward. In fact, the storm
has been significant during the start of the story, during its peak and ultimately in the end. Although
illegal, the loveaffair between the main characters brings ultimate happiness to the families of both
the parties (Stein 52). Indeed, liberty in marriageto satisfy one s physical needs is an effective
means for survival, success and happiness in marriage.
From the onset of the story, it is plausible that Chopin has used the storm symbolically to steer on
the story and to present a setting for the theme of romantic but illicit love. The story has
commenced with Bobinot and Bibi in a local store. As they make attempts to leave, they realize
that a storm is approaching as indicated by clouds. They are therefore closed out in the local store
as they await the storm to end. On the other end at home, Calixta is at home sewing but is unaware
of the storm. She later notices the approaching storm where she runs frantically in the house to
close doors and windows. It is during that confusion that she notices Alcee as he approaches. Alce
Laballire rode in at the gate (Ward 91). Through

Boukreev s Response To Krakauer
In the article, Anatoli Boukreev (Responds to Krakauer), Boukreev addresses his viewpoint and
response to Krakauer s letter. He argues that the tragedy that happened on Mount Everest was
not how Krakauer described and Krakauer s lack of experience was what got in the way of his
ability to evaluate correctly of the situation. To begin with, he declares that his decisions and
actions were based upon his experience of climbing mountains so he had a reason for why he did
what he did. At this point in the article, Boukreev is building up his credibility by stating that he
had more than 20 years of high altitude climbing and had summited Everest 3 times already.
Moreover, Boukreev comments on his reasons for descending Everest early instead... Show more

He also points out that descending climbers could possibly run out of oxygen so he wanted to
descend down quickly in order to bring back oxygen for the climbers and warn them about the
weather change. Furthermore, Krakauer raised a question in his letter to Boukreev about how
Boukreev climbed without oxygen and how that might ve caused a dangerous situation. Boukreev
responded by saying that climbing without oxygen was safer for him and he did it to avoid the
sudden loss of acclimatization but also to give it to someone else who might run low on oxygen.
Krakauer also raised another question about Boukreev s clothing choice on summit day. Krakauer
said that Boukreev did not wear adequately clothing to protect him from the weather. On the other
hand, Boukreev implies that he wore what he did because in the photographs that he took, he
would be in the latest and highest quality clothing. In conclusion, Boukreev reflects upon his
decisions and actions that he took by considering what might ve happened if he had not made the

How Did The Atomic Bomb Affect Society
On the 6th August 1945 the Enola Gay, a USA warplane, dropped an atomic bomb (called the
Little Boy ) on a Japanese city called Hiroshima. This was the first time the atomic bomb was
used in war. The bomb exploded at around 580 m above the ground with the equivalent power of
15 kilotons of TNT. Sixty six thousand people died instantly from the heat and impact of the
bomb. Three days later, on the 9th August, the US decided to drop a second and bigger atomic
bomb (called the Fat Man ), on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. The Fat Man had an equivalent
power of 20 kilotons of TNT, causing more than fourthly thousand deaths. The dropping of the

Trip To Disney World Essay
I remember planning for this day for about two years. When I would finally get the chance to be
with my best friends and take a road trip to California to go to Disney Land, and now that the
time to take that trip has come and gone I would like to talk about my most important journey.
Once I woke up I called Alavee to make sure he was awake. I m glad he was because he saved me
some time by calling Priya and Rigo to make sure they were getting ready to go. About an hour
and a half later we all met up in the school parking lot at about the same time. The exception was
Priya who had to take extra time to bring the camper which we hardly used in the end, but it was
still better than trying to cram into one car to sleep. Anthony brought his... Show more content on

than happy to have us. We really didn t do much there. Priya mostly stayed in the camper
because of course he had to bring his laptop with her. The rest of us went into my aunt s
downstairs room and played playstation 3 and went on her computer. The next day we wanted
to head out early so we could make it to Colorado and have time to see some sites and visit my
aunt and uncle. After we said thanks for letting us stay with my Aunt Alks and Uncle Pinakin s
house, we were on our way. I wasn t really looking forward to the drive ahead because I
remember how long it was the first time I had to make the trip, and it gets uncomfortable. The
only thing I like when we go to Colorado is that we lose an hour. This was probably the most
boring trip on our journey because most of the land we traveled was in Nebraska and it was flat
and plain. There was nothing really significant about this trip until we got to Colorado. Flat land
changed into mountains and country turned into city. That part of it was really interesting
because it was like we could see the invisible line separating Colorado and Nebraska. It took us a
little while to find my aunt in Golden, Colorado because the directions were a little hard to follow.
I guess no one wanted to see anything because almost as soon as we were

Aristotle s Claim That The Highest Form Of Life
EXPLAIN AND CRITICALLY EXAMINE ARISTOTLE S CLAIM THAT THE HIGHEST FORM
OF LIFE IS ONE DEDICATED TO THOUGHT AND CONTEMPLATION
Introduction:
This essay is aimed at reviewing Aristotle s philosophical claim that thought and contemplation is
the highest form of life, with a view to explaining the veracity of his theory. Aristotle, like many
other philosophers wrote extensively on a variety of issues. His deep rooted conviction for a
society based on such theoretical foundation of thought, contemplation, reason and logic, made him
explore the perimeters of knowledge to advance the society on the foundation of knowledge. Most
of Aristotle s life was dedicated to the search for knowledge. Contemplation naturally brings about
knowledge, which is the base of discovery. For Aristotle, the life of unbroken contemplation is
something divine. It is the ultimate intellectual virtue, and it is the highest form of human activity.
Like Plato s postulation of the philosopher king or king philosopher as the ruler of society, Aristotle
s theory of thought and contemplation places premium on education, wisdom and knowledge as
basis for happiness, fulfilment and harmony. Socrates personally demonstrated this by staying in
isolation at some point to have the luxury of undisturbed thoughts, contemplation and meditation.
The ancient, medieval and modern philosophers gave a lot of time to this highest form of life, and
this explains the potency behind their prolific writings which has stood the

Ayla Hall Mrs. Brown 11th Adv. LIt 20 December 2016 Sherman Alexie Sherman Alexie is a
Native American writer who writes about life as an American Indian. Alexie uses his family and
culture to create the setting, and he also uses it to create a three person reflection of himself
through his characters Thomas Builds The Fire, Victor Joseph, and Victor Polatkin. One of the
things that contributed to Alexie s writing was his family. Sherman Alexie was born in Spokane,
Washington, on October 7, 1966, the son of Sherman Joseph Alexie and Lillian Agnes (nГ©e
Cox) Alexie (Sax). Alexie s father was an alcoholic and was absent for most of his childhood.

himself. The three predominant characters in his first novel, Reservation Blues, Alexie has
described as the holy trinity of me (McFarland). Victor proceeded to argue with Thomas about
the guitar. He is trying to get him to stop playing songs by making him play a specific song.
What happens if you can t play the song? Victor asked. Then you can kick my ass some more.
We ll kick your ass anyway, Victor said (Alexie 15). Victor also used an electric fence to be mean
to Thomas. Watch this, Victor said as he dropped a foot long water snake onto the fence.
Thomas nearly choked on the smell (Alexie 71). Thomas did not want to say anything in fear of
making it worse. Thomas was a little frivolous around Victor Junior once again tried to get
Victor to stop but it did not work. Victor drug Thomas over to a barrel where he had a rattlesnake
inside. Grab the fence, Victor said. Or grab the snake (Alexie 71). This was quite a shrewd thing
to do, but Thomas was more crafty when he touched the snake, knowing it was dead when Victor
did not. Victor can be implacable and arduous about what he wants people to do. Victor was also
drunk a lot. Do you got a beer? (Alexie 19) Junior asked one of the Indians on the reservation that
everybody knew did not drink like that. He got drunk almost and passed asleep in the water truck
every night. Victor and Junior were passed out in the water truck on an old logging road (Alexie

Outlawing Bilingual Education
Bilingual, or multilingual education as it is also known, has always been a controversial subject
regarding education. Many individuals overlook the benefits encompassed, and blindly chose to
ignore the legitimacy of such educational methods. Nevertheless, it is a known fact that now more
than ever, it is of extreme importance that people speak more than one language, especially when
regarding jobs. To further emphasize, jobs actively seek out individuals with knowledge of more
than one language. Why is it then, that some states have even gone as far as outlawing bilingual
education? As people of different cultural backgrounds have made new countries their homes, it
became apparent that more focus should be placed on providing them equal education... Show more

One of the greatest challenges the aforementioned programs face as stated by Deborah K. Palmer
and Ramon Antonio Martinez is: ...bilingual students are placed into classrooms that do not
cultivate biliteracy (379). It is relatively known that most programs emphasize English and
completely disregard the learner s п¬Ѓrst language, oftentimes providing all instructions in English
and leaving those who have yet to learn the language behind. Thus, this practice is unfair to those
still learning English and is still being studied in order to refine the programs and give all
learners the ability to improve upon their biliteracy, or bilingual literacy. In terms of maintaining
bilingual education programs, teachers must support biliteracy development by changing the
perspective on language from monolingual to bilingual, in order to create a learning space for the
development of biliteracy among bilingual students (383). Above all, we must rethink language as a
whole (384). To clarify, the focus must be shifted from looking at methods and strategies to improve
bilingual programs, to plainly understanding language and what bilingualism even means. Despite
the fact that multilingual programs have limitations in their efficiency, there are places where
there aren t even any programs to begin with. As a matter of fact, it is relatively doable to begin
implementing dual language programs at any schools, and as said by Dr. Audrey Figueroa Murphy;
the added benefit that the programs carry is the potential to be advantageous to any student (47).
Continuing on, dual language programs can prosper in schools with; appropriately skilled
/certified teachers, students with a native language other than English, and above all, parent
support (49 50). Multilingual programs offer a pathway to academic success, bilingualism, and

Effects Of Technology In Technology
Advancements in Technology Affects Social Skills As the world of technology continues to
advance, the ways in which humans communicate also continues to change dramatically. At one
point in life all means of communication was face to face whereas now we are offered an
abundance of different social media and technology concepts that have taken away from face to
face communicating. Although we can look at the spread of social media to be a positive aspect in
which it has helped people communicate in different ways, face to face social skills are still
necessary for social growth and development. As use of technology becomes more common
amongst children at a young age, it negatively affects communicationbecause it promotes
impersonal behavior.
As society continues to change and adapt to modern day technology, social media becomes
more widely used and accepted amongst people of various ages. Children are being born into a
generation of Millennials where technology has become something most people tend to depend
on to get through their daily lives. Elaina Zachos, an intern for public source states, The U.S.
Census Bureau says there are 83.1 million people between the ages of 18 to 34 in the nation.
Studies show the average Millennial spends 18 hours per day using any type of digital media.
And, 90 percent of young adults use social media, which is up from 12 percent in 2005, the Pew
Research Center reports. ( Zachos) Although this generation is much more connected and

Fear Of Spiders Research Paper
Arachnophobia is the all encompassing fear of spiders. If you are like most people, you have at
least a touch of the phobia. While you might not have an irrational fear like those who suffer with
the condition, you likely don t care much for the small, eight legged arachnids. That makes you
normal. Thankfully, though, in South Carolina there are very few spiders that can do you any
actual harm. They are the most terrifying spiders found in the Carolinas:
The Black Widow:
You are probably familiar with the black widow s appearance. It has an almost glossy sheen to its
body and has an hourglass shaped red mark on the underside of its abdomen. The made widow
spider is smaller than the female version and rarely bite. The more aggressive females bite more
often but still will usually bite only in defense. The most common reason for them to attack is if
they are guarding eggs or laying eggs.
The female black widow prefers to spin her silken web in a protected space, such as under decks,
house steps or stones. They are rarely found inside of houses. The black widow bite produces
sharp pain that typically lasts for hours, resulting in localized muscle cramps. The pain can
become severe and spread to other parts of the body and be accompanies by tremors and weakness.

The Struggles Of Bad Customer Service
The Struggles of Bad Customer Service In the medical industry, customer service is a very
important thing. As a customer and a new patient, I expect to walk into an office and be treated
with the same respect as the next person in line. About two weeks ago, I went into the oral surgeon
s office and was looking around to see a tiny, but crowed waiting room. I came into this office with
high expectations, for my sister had just gotten her wisdom teethremoved in this office with
exceptional service , as my motherput it. So I looked up at the receptionist s desk and found myself
placed as the second person in line. There I stood, waiting in line for over twenty minutes! It felt
like it was taking forever because there was a gentleman in front of me who didn t have his
referrals. But order for him to proceed with an appointment, he needed the referrals. So the
receptionist, decided to put her time into looking for his paperwork. Thankfully, while she s
looking into it, she calls the next person in line. This happens to finally be my turn! I quickly
proceeded to the receptionist s desk, to present my insurance cards. The reason why I have two
insurance cards instead of just one is because I have Hodgkin s Lymphoma. That means I have a
secondary insurance listed under the state s welfare policies for disabled children. Although I am
eighteen, the policy allows me to stay on until I m Nineteen for my medical bills can get extremely

Synthesis Essay On Intersex
Gender: a word society uses far too often without realizing its true complicated meaning.
Children are born every day and the golden question becomes Is it a boy or a girl? What would a
person do if they heard their child was neither or both? According to the National Institutes of
Health, One out of every 2,000 kids is born with genitals that cannot be clearly identified as maleor
female. These types of children are called Intersex , and they break the boundary of gender
identification. Intersex is a broad category for many situations where an individual s genital or
reproductive anatomy, or chromosomal pattern, lies between the normal standards of both male and
female. The prefix inter stands for between; therefore, the simple definition of intersex is between
the sexes. Intersex conditions usually result from a genetic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Intersex Society of North America s principle is that one s genitals are primarily for one s own
use, not for the comfort of others. therefore, the patient should be allowed to choose for their own

infant was given unnecessary surgery to normalize them to fit society s standards. The family of
the children were told to keep their condition a secret, sometimes even keeping the condition a
secret from the child as well, just like Davis story. Today Intersex adults stand up against the
medical treatment they were given as children to say the treatment they received was harmful, lead

Reflection About Selfishness
Everybody is bound to be selfish from time to time. Although many elements of our society may
encourage it, selfishness just hurts other people, sometimes at little to no personal gain. A selfish
person also ends up losing friends or loved ones because no matter how charming or interesting a
selfish person may be, a relationship with a selfish person is hard to maintain. A truly selfish person
would never consider the possibility that they are selfish. Many think selfishnessand pride are good
things, and that putting the needs of others above your own is for suckers. If you re worried that
you re too selfish and want to be on the path to gratitude and humility, then see Step 1 to get started.

you set additional goals to manage these appropriately. For help with evaluating and managing the

Either way, make that promise!
Tip:
Self confidence is about balance. At one extreme, we have people with low self confidence. At the
other end, we have people who may be over confident.
If you are under confident, you ll avoid taking risks and stretching yourself; and you might not try
at all. And if you re over confident, you may take on too much risk, stretch yourself beyond your
capabilities, and crash badly. You may also find that you re so optimistic that you don t try hard
enough to truly succeed.
Getting this right is a matter of having the right amount of confidence, founded in reality and on
your true ability. With the right amount of self confidence, you will take informed risks, stretch
yourself (but not beyond your abilities) and try hard.
So how self confident are you? Take our short quiz to find out how self confident you are already,

Bargaining power of suppliers: Low Medium Shoe retailers have considerable bargaining power over footwear measurement suppliers. It is a value adding component to existing footwear to have measuring tools. It s not a must to have a measuring tool. The existing market is dominated by US Brannock Device Company, and other cheaper alternatives. 3. • 3. The Horrors of a Slave Ship The Horrors of a Slave Ship, describes in detail, the tragic experiences of Olaudah Equiano as a captive slave. Equiano suffered many sleepless nights; he was flogged and kidnapped multiple times. In the article, the author is trying to give the reader the feeling by giving details of the brutally floggings and desperation as many slaves suffocated to death as they were placed in an overcrowded deck. Overall, the author tries to give readers their point across of the difficulties in being a captive slave. At age eleven Equiano s happiness had a turning point as he was kidnapped along with his sister. They were treated brutally and were forced to do dangerous jobs. If orders were not followed, they were flogged unmercifully. Later,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I never thought being a slave was as much as this. I knew they suffered, but not as much as them preferring death over being alive. I can picture the situation as a horror scene as many slaves shrieked, groaned, and cried as they died of diseases or maybe of hopelessness. After I read this article, I ve been interested in other stories about slave ship. The fact that Equiano bought his own freedom makes me realize that slaves having a position in liberty was not easy or given to anybody easily. It came to the moment in their lives where they lost hope in being happy which at some point in their lives, life was not taken seriously. Like Equiano, many slaves did not fight back or tried to escape. There was no point in fighting for their lives. Either way, they would have to die and suffer. I believe that most of the slaves reason for their death was the loss of hope they had for their lives. This is a good article to get readers attention and open their eyes to be thankful for what they have which is freedom, food, and a family. None of the slaves could enjoy what we have. They spent most of their lives working and serving others than being close to their families. Overall, The Horrors of a Slave Ship have impacted readers and also me in a way that we can see more than just a daily workforce. I know there are millions of other slaves than just Olaudah Equiano. • 4. The Differences of the Child Welfare Policy in the United... The underscoring concept to social work practice the pursuit towards a socially just society. Social workers serve the purpose of enriching society by enhancing social justice and eliminating social oppression. Mandates and mission statements support these objectives within social service agencies both in for profit and nonprofit sectors. One thing that every social service agency has in common is the overarching ideology that shapes the society they serve and more specifically, ideology influences the way an agency can conduct its services. Philosophy in most cases only goes as far as policy allows it too. This paper will examine the similarities and differences from western child welfare policy in the United States (US) and look... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1974 marked the introduction to legislation that captured child maltreatment and enabled funding to support and develop child abuse reporting systems and procedures for managing maltreatment reports. From the introduction of legislation through time new policies were developed to adhere to the provisions of adoption, family preservation, and family support. Similar to other developed countries in child welfare, visions for community caring systems are developed for families and maintaining children in their own community as initial responses. Family centered practice, culture connection, and community continuity are viewed as important variables to serve the best interest of a child. In the US, African American and American Indian children are overrepresented in the child welfare system. There is a lack of cultural competence which can lead to inaccurate assessments (Velazquez, 2011). If biological families need to stay together and child welfare should make this a priority than perhaps the US isn t the best at modeling this behavior. According to Gilbert(2011) in the 1990 s policy seemed less concerned with birth families and more about children s opportunities to live in new families created through adoption (p.24). This appears to work against the parents working to regain custody because the system demonstrates an interest in looking to place children opposed to working with families towards reunification. ... • 5. Essay on Comparison Between the Great Gatsby and Ebb Sonnets A deeper understanding of aspirations and identity emerges from considering the parallels between the Great Gatsby and Browning s poetry . Compare how these texts explore aspirations and identity? Both the texts The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Sonnets from the Portuguese by Elizabeth Barrett Browning explore the ideas of aspirations and identity developing a deeper understanding of the texts. Both texts share these ideas through the characters and the values of idealism and hope, and personal voice and identity. Although the two texts are separated in time and context, they both reflect the world of the text and composer. She continues to list her idealized love in Sonnets 43 and 14, stating that love should be pure as men turn from praise , a love which people endure because it is right and correct. She again through imagery demands the purity of genuine love that can grow through time and endure on, through loves eternity . This clearly explores the idea of aspirations, hope and idealism within the sonnet sequence. The Sonnet sequence also involves the idea of identity with Barrett Browning coming to terms with her emerging sexuality and realisation of love. The sequence was written by Barrett Browning thus providing a personal voice to the sonnets allowing a portrayal of the sequence of events of her personal identity and expression of love. Throughout the sonnet sequence Browning develops a stronger sense and realisation of her love for Robert, hence shaping her identity. By sonnet 43 a series of elements introduced by the simple phrase I love thee where the repetition intensifies the affirmation, she declares that her love is free and pure and possesses passion. Most importantly Browning now holds a sense of identity as she has achieved her idealized type of love. • 6. The Advocacy Of Women s Rights On The Grounds Of... Feminism. The advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. Why are some people so angry or offended when they hear this word? Why does the idea of women being equal to men annoy and infuriate them? Do they not believe that women should have the same rights as men? Should women have to cover up to avoid being cat called by disgusting men? Should women have to cover up to avoid being molested or raped? Should women have to stay quiet when they are raped or abused because no one would ever believe them? Should womanbe told what to wear, say, or do with their body? I ask myself these questions every day. The question that I ask myself the most is, Why are women of color, gay, and transgender women constantly being disrespected? Woman as a whole get disrespected on a daily basis. We get cat called, get told what to do with our bodies, victim blamed, our bodies are over sexualized, and were viewed as weak and just a piece of meat. Being a woman is already scary enough but being a gay, transgender, or woman of color is the most terrifying experience. Its seems as if the more melanin your skin contains, the more disrespect you receive. Why is that? Although being a woman is hard, being a white woman gives you so much more privilege than what a woman of color gets. First of all, white woman are seen as beautiful and attractive because of their skin. They aren t constantly told that their skin is too dark or ugly because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Report On Summit Electronic Supply 1. Summit Electronic Supply was in need of new systems that could mend some of their unique business process problems. Summit s line of business involves being the distributor of electronics equipment to electrical contractors, giving the company a high volume of transactions and inventory turnover (Laudon, 2013). The most important processes for Summit included stock keeping units and order transactions. As a distributer, Summit s main concern was to fulfill its orders on time. To do so, Summit needed to have meticulous records of the location and availability of its products. Summit sold a high volume of cable and wires that were hard to keep track of. Since these materials were sold in lengths, (e.g. 500 feet of cable), it was vital to keep track of exactly how much inventorywas left. Another important process of Summit were its sales chargebacks. Sales chargebacks are when a supplier sells a higher wholesaler price to the distributor than the price the distributor had set with the retail customer (Laudon, 2013). Keeping track of chargebacks was vital to the company as it ensured that no extra revenue was lost. Another important business process for Summit was its warehouse accommodations. Summit would set up temporary warehouses to supply large customers with long term job sites (Laudon, 2013). 2. • 9. Margaret Sanger And The Comstock Act Of 1873 Margaret Sanger and the Comstock Act of 1873 Rough Draft The U.S. women s movement had its beginnings in 1848 when Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott called the Seneca Falls Convention in New York to discuss the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of woman (Women s History in the U.S....). Over time, this inspired many women to stand up for their own beliefs and for the better for women in future generations. During World War I, the high birth rates led to food and supply shortages, and disease which mainly affected those in poverty (Putting Margaret Sanger s Ideas in Context). At the time, a woman s life revolved around bringing food home and onto the table which became an issue with the lack of supplies and the best foods would be given to men (Comstockery in America). As a nurse visiting, Margaret Sanger witnessed and met immigrant working mothers who were deeply impacted by unexpected pregnancies and botched miscarriages (Amory). Margaret Sanger violated the Comstock Act of 1873 of 1873 because she wanted to advocate women s rights which resulted in a conflict between Sanger and the those against her ideas, and the laws that suppressed her from advocating. As a result, as a compromise of the amendment of the Comstock Act after she gained support from her article and supporters which resulted in Planned Parenthood, the ability to distribute contraceptives, and a new found support for women to have more control over their lives. • 10. Essay on Feminism in Dubliners | Feminism in Dubliners| Mrs. Atkins; English A3 Tuesday, May 25, 2010 James Joyce s book of short stories entitled Dubliners examines feminism and the role of women in Irish society. The author is ahead of his time by bringing women to the forefront of his stories and using them to show major roles and flaws in Irish society, specifically in Eveline and The Boarding House . James Joyce portrays women as victims who are forced to assume a leading and somewhat patriarchal role in their families. He uses them to show the paralysis of his native land Ireland, and the disruption in social order that is caused by the constant cycle of abuse that he finds commonplace in Ireland. Joyce is trying to end the Victorian and archaic view of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is seen when the narrator speaks about the story of the field that Eveline, her brothers, and another family s children used to play on which was bought by a man from Belfast in order to build a house. Another example, is how she and her brothers would play out in a field, and her father would come to hunt them in out of the field with his blackthorn stick (34). This also symbolizes the discord of family relations, and the premature annihilation of her childhood innocence by her father and the premature end of innocence that is caused by abusive men to their children in Ireland. Eveline is also denied the basic right to love and affection by her own choice. She finds a man who loves and values her, and is the exact opposite of her abusive father. Frank represents the opportunity for escape and a break in the cycle. She finally has an opportunity for a new life, and she chooses to stay in Ireland to take care of her father and brothers. Eveline s choice to stay in Ireland, rather than to leave with Frank can be seen as a result of the lack of self worth and mental constraints set on her by her father, which parallels the fact that Ireland s paralysis is caused by the abuse of male authority roles. Eveline feels tied to her father, in the same way a hopeless chained animal who knows no better than to wait patiently and endure. When first describing Dorian to Lord Henry, Basil describes how Dorian has become integral to his artistic expression, suggesting that Basil s interest consists most essentially in Dorian s physical beauty, since that can be represented in Basil s art. Climate change is causing a big threat that would cause great catastrophe to the world and this problem will influence everyone around the world. Rather than showing the town s lack of seriousness in a negative way, Hurston depicts the town as full of laughter, love, and lighthearted games. The characters of Ed Dockery, Bootyny, and Sop de Bottom live in the Everglades with Janie and Tea Cake and are a central part of the community. Even though the Everglades town is stereotypically black, Hurston presents this town and its blackness in a positive light. In addition, Janie is accepted quickly by the town; she can listen and laugh and even talk some if she wanted to and can tell big stories herself from listening to the rest (134). In Eatonville, whose African American residents act less stereotypically black and pretentiously try to emulate white people, Janie is unable to assimilate in such a community. However, the more stereotypically black town in the Everglades is much more accepting towards Janie. By presenting the culture of the Everglades in a favorable way from Janie s point of view, Hurston shows pride for conventional black culture. The town in the Everglades is also illustrated as lively and jubilant; specifically, nights in the town have pianos living three lifetimes in one , blues made and used right on the spot , dancing, fighting, singing, crying, laughing, winning and losing love every hour . The New Testament has over 24,000 manuscripts with the earliest copy dating about twenty five years after the original (McDowell 1992, 52). In comparison, Homer s Iliad, one of the most historically accepted manuscripts, has only 642 manuscripts with a 500 year gap between the original and the first surviving copy. Since Homer s Iliad is considered reliable it seems the New Testament should also be considered a reliable copy of the original. SUPPORTING EVIDENCE #2 The reliability of the Bible as a historical document is the first form of evidence which points to the reliability of the Bible as a whole. The most trustworthy records of history are eyewitness accounts, writings of those who had a trustworthy source (such as an eyewitness), and archeological findings (Bowman 1965, 15). The Bible has all three of these evidences present. For instance, Exodus, Jeremiah, and Matthew are all examples of accounts written by firsthand eye witnesses. Luke and Acts were written by Luke who was a friend of many eyewitnesses. Furthermore, even eyewitnesses who were antagonistic towards Christians, such as Josephus, affirmed the truth ... I m Down, Dog Under all normal circumstances, a field full of children lying motionless in a field would be cause for alarm, however this particular scene occurred under the best circumstances. On a balmy October day in 2010, a group of girls reclined blissfully in Savasana beneath a whispering willow tree as the last cotton wood tufts drifted in the breeze. I d been going to the Boys Girls Club every day afterschool for about a month. One afternoon, a volunteer guided a group through a basic yoga class. Although it was probably only 30 minutes in length, it would serve as the catalyst for one of the most important chapters in my life. Little did I know it would eventually lead to my yoga teacher certification and beyond! Following my first post yoga bliss, I became hooked. The afterschool leader, Sarah, could place her full palm on the ground while I could barely touch my toes. She inspired me; she was an adult who truly inhabited her body. • 32. Themes In Doubt By John Patrick Shanley In the novel Doubt by John Patrick Shanley, he creates doubts in readers minds that have us turning the pages curious of what will happen next. This topic is important in the book because doubt is one of the biggest themes in this novel, it can be apart from all other themes in the book. Doubt creates a lot of different opinions from people, and raises a lot of important discussions. It creates doubt in readers minds whether or not Father Flynn is guilty, he does this by showing us different sides of characters and making us feeling uncertain about our beliefs. In John Patrick Shanley s novel Doubt he opens us up to a whole bunch of different characters, you have Sister Aloysius who is the stern traditionalist and then you have the complete opposite Father Flynn who is a very fun, kind, and progressive person. Sister Aloysius thinks that Father Flynn s ways of living life are very strange and she is appalled by his habits because they are not like her traditionalist ways. Your fingernails, I wear them a little long, the sugar? Oh yes, one? Three. Three. The 1920 s is a notorious era known as the Roaring Twenties. The standard of living had greatly improved from the century before it. Credit allowed average income families to purchase new products. However, the apparent success of the credit system did not conceal the damage it had imposed on the financial wealth of the United States. During the Roaring Twenties, the economy was booming at its highest. Families enjoyed larger paychecks for shorter work hours and days. New commodities were introduced to the consumer market. Even though wages were rising, a new economic plan, called credit, was instituted. Instead of direct buying, an initial deposit was required with weekly or monthly installments. People who could never afford new inventions such as radios, cars, or electric household appliances, were able to purchase these items on credit. The cultural divide between geographically separate areas was bridged through these new innovations. Through the radio, people all over the country were listening to the same songs and dancing the same dance Credit helped the economy by increasing the demand for domestic goods. But the success of credit masked the damage it had imposed on the economy. Credit began to have a negative effect on American families. Buying products on credit meant paying in installments. Soon families were unable to pay back the debts they owed. Another negative effect was buying stock on margin. Stock brokers began to buy stock on credit as well. The stock market peaked at its highest at this time after a period of wild speculation. Money was being heavily invested in the stock market without any regard for the invested company. Once the value of stock began to decline, investors began to sell all of their stock before the price hit rock bottom. The demand for stock was at its lowest and investors were left with nothing. Before an investor should consider buying or selling a stock, it should always contemplate how dividends should be incorporated in that decision. BAC current pays a 1.44% annual dividend. • 41. Kate Chopin s The Storm Basically, the setting in the short story of Kate Chopin The Storm presents a clear demonstration of an illicit but a romantic love affair. Indeed, the title has been used perfectly to signify the adulterous love affair. Most importantly, it is evident that the storm has not been used as a mere coincidence but instead it has been used to steer the story and the affairforward. In fact, the storm has been significant during the start of the story, during its peak and ultimately in the end. Although illegal, the loveaffair between the main characters brings ultimate happiness to the families of both the parties (Stein 52). Indeed, liberty in marriageto satisfy one s physical needs is an effective means for survival, success and happiness in marriage. From the onset of the story, it is plausible that Chopin has used the storm symbolically to steer on the story and to present a setting for the theme of romantic but illicit love. The story has commenced with Bobinot and Bibi in a local store. As they make attempts to leave, they realize that a storm is approaching as indicated by clouds. Aristotle s Claim That The Highest Form Of Life EXPLAIN AND CRITICALLY EXAMINE ARISTOTLE S CLAIM THAT THE HIGHEST FORM OF LIFE IS ONE DEDICATED TO THOUGHT AND CONTEMPLATION Introduction: This essay is aimed at reviewing Aristotle s philosophical claim that thought and contemplation is the highest form of life, with a view to explaining the veracity of his theory. Aristotle, like many other philosophers wrote extensively on a variety of issues. His deep rooted conviction for a society based on such theoretical foundation of thought, contemplation, reason and logic, made him explore the perimeters of knowledge to advance the society on the foundation of knowledge. Most of Aristotle s life was dedicated to the search for knowledge. Contemplation naturally brings about knowledge, which is the base of discovery. For Aristotle, the life of unbroken contemplation is something divine. It is the ultimate intellectual virtue, and it is the highest form of human activity. Like Plato s postulation of the philosopher king or king philosopher as the ruler of society, Aristotle s theory of thought and contemplation places premium on education, wisdom and knowledge as basis for happiness, fulfilment and harmony. Socrates personally demonstrated this by staying in isolation at some point to have the luxury of undisturbed thoughts, contemplation and meditation. Many individuals overlook the benefits encompassed, and blindly chose to ignore the legitimacy of such educational methods. Nevertheless, it is a known fact that now more than ever, it is of extreme importance that people speak more than one language, especially when regarding jobs. To further emphasize, jobs actively seek out individuals with knowledge of more than one language. Why is it then, that some states have even gone as far as outlawing bilingual education? As people of different cultural backgrounds have made new countries their homes, it became apparent that more focus should be placed on providing them equal education... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the greatest challenges the aforementioned programs face as stated by Deborah K. Palmer and Ramon Antonio Martinez is: ...bilingual students are placed into classrooms that do not cultivate biliteracy (379). It is relatively known that most programs emphasize English and completely disregard the learner s п¬Ѓrst language, oftentimes providing all instructions in English and leaving those who have yet to learn the language behind. Thus, this practice is unfair to those still learning English and is still being studied in order to reп¬Ѓne the programs and give all learners the ability to improve upon their biliteracy, or bilingual literacy. In terms of maintaining bilingual education programs, teachers must support biliteracy development by changing the perspective on language from monolingual to bilingual, in order to create a learning space for the development of biliteracy among bilingual students (383). Above all, we must rethink language as a whole (384). To clarify, the focus must be shifted from looking at methods and strategies to improve bilingual programs, to plainly understanding language and what bilingualism even means. Despite the fact that multilingual programs have limitations in their efп¬Ѓciency, there are places where there aren t even any programs to begin with. About two weeks ago, I went into the oral surgeon s office and was looking around to see a tiny, but crowed waiting room. I came into this office with high expectations, for my sister had just gotten her wisdom teethremoved in this office with exceptional service , as my motherput it. It felt like it was taking forever because there was a gentleman in front of me who didn t have his referrals. But order for him to proceed with an appointment, he needed the referrals. So the receptionist, decided to put her time into looking for his paperwork. Thankfully, while she s looking into it, she calls the next person in line. This happens to finally be my turn! Intersex Society of North America s principle is that one s genitals are primarily for one s own use, not for the comfort of others. therefore, the patient should be allowed to choose for their own body and not have to stand by their parents preferences. There have been numerous cases, where an infant was given unnecessary surgery to normalize them to fit society s standards. The family of the children were told to keep their condition a secret, sometimes even keeping the condition a secret from the child as well, just like Davis story. Today Intersex adults stand up against the medical treatment they were given as children to say the treatment they received was harmful, lead to sterility, ongoing pain, scarring, and incontinence, loss of genital sensation and sexual function, and depression. (The Interface Project) Through support groups members have discoursed their views and opinion of surgery performed on infants through their own personal experience advocating that child should be able to have a say in their ...
