Perseus Archetypes
erica s obsession with Greek and Roman culture has been around for centuries. Buildings like the
Capitol, the White House, and even the Lincoln Memorial were designed with the intended purpose of
portraying the intimidating architecture of Ancient Greece. In fashion, elaborate clothing crafted by
designers imitate early Greek attire to display a regal femininity or a warrior like masculinity. For
entertainment purposes, books, television shows, and movies are used to carry on the myths and
stories of the Greek gods and Heroes. Depending on each myth, the story could have been
compromised from the act of being passed down from generation to generation. In the original myth
of Perseus, multiple archetypes were used and provided stereotypical roles in the myth. However, the
modern day Clash of the Titans movie portrayed the myth in a completely different context, added or
removed new characters and even changed the archetype of the characters, thus changing the meaning
of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(such as spirits, fairies, ogres, and dragons), as well as abstractions (such as good and evil) and
individuals in the social group (or mother and father), also serve as prominent archetypes.

Information systems can be analyzed in this circular motion. For example, if you have a system that is
fully developed and goes on the market, but does not really work as intended, you can go back to the
cycle, see what went wrong, fix the problem so it does not happen again, put the system back on the
market, and learn from it. 3. Figure 1 2 and figure 1 3 are similar because they both show how the
cycle should be followed when analyzing a system. Figure 1 2 is different from figure 1 3 because the
life cycle appears to be in order, but it is not. The specific steps and their sequence are meant to be
used for a project that is consistent with management approaches. 4. Figures 1 2 and 1 4 are similar in
fact that even figure 1 2 seems simpler than figure 1 4 they are actually still use in the same approach
and that when implementing the life cycle every company takes the same approach. In Figure 1 2,
starts with planning and the cycle ends with implementation. With figure 1 4, this figure starts with
and initiation and ends with a disposition. This plan is mostly used by medium to large corporations.
5. Figure 1 2 and figure 1 12 are similar because they both use the same type of prototype or model.
However figure 1 2 focuses specifically on how the cycle should be followed when analyzing a
system. And figure 1 12 focuses specifically

Labor Unions in the Late 1800 s Essay
Labor Unions in the Late 1800 s
Labor unions in the late 1800 s set out to improve the lives of frequently abused workers. Volatile
issues like the eight hour workday, ridiculously low pay and unfair company town practices were
often the fuses that lit explosive conflicts between unions and monopolistic industrialists. Some of the
most violent and important conflicts of the time were the Haymarket Affair and the Pullman strike.
Each set out to with similar goals and both ended with horrifying consequences. The movement for
the eight hour workday was one of the most violent struggles for laborers. Their struggle is defined by
protests that were broken up by the police and the Pinkertons. The Pinkertons were a mercenary police

Many homes, meeting halls, and offices where outspoken supporters of the eight hour movement lived
and worked were raided without warrant. Oscar Neebe, Adolph Fisher, August Spies, Louis Lingg,
Michael Schwab, Samuel Fielden, Carl Engel, and Albert Parsons were charged with the trumped up
charge of accessory to murder for the riot. They were all brought to trial, even though many of the
men were not even at Haymarket Square at the time of the melee.
With a jury of twelve men found all of the defendants guilty. After an appeal to the Supreme Court,
Spies, Parsons, Fischer and Engel were sentenced to hang. Neebe, Fielden and Schwab were given life
sentences. Louis Lingg most likely would have served a life sentence as well, however, he committed
suicide.

Perseus Favor From The Gods
Favor of The Gods In the Greek myth of Perseus, it is demonstrated that though heroes have strength,
they need help from the supernatural to succeed in their quests. When Perseus was born he was tossed
into a chest with his mother and thrown into the sea (115). Under normal circumstances, the child
would have died, but Zeus took pity on his child and rescued him from drowning. Secondly, without
the gods, heroes would not know which path to take. The myth states that as he stood at a crossroad
wondering which way to go, Athena and Hermes suddenly appeared. (117). Although heroes are often
described as wise, most of this wisdom comes from the gods. Lastly, without gifts on their quests, the
heroes would not be able to complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Epic of Gilgamesh demonstrates how having favor from the gods, or not having favor affects a
character s story. Gilgamesh is born two thirds god, and because of this he is feared by all the people
(62). Gilgamesh is born already with an advantage in the eyes of the gods. However, when Enkidu
falls out of favor with the gods he has to pay the price for both him and Gilgamesh. An unnamed
narrator writes, Ha. ppy is the man who falls in battle, for I must die in shame. (93). Enkidu knows
that Gilgamesh will be the one remembered throughout history and that he must pay the price for a
crime which has two guilty parties. Lastly, when Gilgamesh falls out of favor of the gods, he loses his
only chance at immortality. When Gilgamesh labors for days to find immortality, the finally finds the
plant that could save him forever, but it is taken away by a snake (117). As soon as Gilgamesh is no
longer in favor of the gods, he finds a way to change his own destiny, but even this is taken away.
Having the gods on Gilgamesh s side seems like a good thing, but the second you fall out of their
favor, they could not care

Comparison And Cons Of Science Fiction
Whether is it Michael Bay s signature explosion scenes or Quentin Tarantino s way of expressing his
thrilling movies, you cannot deny that everyone enjoys watching movies. Let it be Action, Comedy,
Sci Fi, Animated or even plain old classic films. Talking about genre, Fiction, in literature terms,
refers to a class that comprises works of imaginative narration ( Fiction n.d.,), basically things which
are not real and true. Science fiction on the other hand, is the sub genre of fiction in which the movie
illustrates the science and technology of the future. It is noted that science fiction has a relationship
with the principles of science, meaning that the story usually involves partially true partially fictitious
laws and theories of science. Plots of science fiction would usually create scenes and environments
that are set in the future. ( Definition of Science Fiction , n.d.). These ... Show more content on

Rhetorical Devices In The Declaration Of Independence
In 1776 America s founding fathers decided to separate from their mother country, Great Britain, and
live as independent states. In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson writes that the
United colonies...ought to be free and Independent States, (lines 131 133) after they have undergone a
long string of abuses by King George. As he writes the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson s
purpose is to give reason to the colonists, the King and the foreign worldly powers of why the
colonists feel the need to separate themselves from Great Britain. In the Declaration Jefferson faces
the challenge of persuading his audience that the colonists need to dissolve from Great Britain, he
overcomes this by using rhetorical devices to convince the audience that the colonists have certain
rights the British are not protecting, the colonists have long been abused by King George and the
colonists have tried to reason with the British, but they need to become independent states. The first

First, the materials efficiency variance was noted as unfavorable because 1,000 more units were used
than budgeted. Since materials efficiency variances result from a variety of causes, including materials
quality, spoilage, training, and equipment (Benge, n.d.). The next area to investigate are the labor
variances which showed the cost, while favorable, was a difference of $1.00 per hour. Further, the
efficiency was unfavorable, indicating that production required an additional 3,000 hours over budget,
which could be the result of staff training, faulty equipment, or low quality materials (Direct labor
efficiency variance explanation, formula, example, reasons. 2016). Since there appears to be a lower
cost of labor than anticipated, but higher materials and hourly utilization rate, it is possible that new
lower cost staff were hired resulting in slower production rates and elevated materials utilization. As
such, the production manager should be consulted to investigate the cause of these variances and to
put proper corrective actions into place (Miller Nobles et al.,

Romeo and Juliet Love Story by Taylor Swift. In the song Love Story if you actually read the words
you can understand the meaning of the lyrics. It s not just about Taylor s same old problem with her ex
boyfriend, this song was made to be based on this play. Romeo and Juliet is about 2 paramours
fighting for a love so strong. As for the play, if you actually think about what they re saying the story
comes to life. The lyrics We were both young when I first saw you explains that Romeo and Juliet
were actually pretty young when they first saw each other. I sneak out to the garden to see you, we
keep quiet cause we re dead if they knew.. This explains that in Scene 2 of this Act, act 2. Juliet is on
her balcony talking to herself about how amazing Romeo is, while Romeo sneaks in to see her. They
keep quiet because Romeo is a Capulet while Juliet is a Montague, and if either side found out about
them, it would be bad news especially if Juliet s kinsman found out he was in the Capulets yard. In the
song the lyrics go, This love is difficult, but it s real. explains the many obstacles they had to

We Found Love is one of the most catchy songs for this play. This song would fit in perfectly at the
beginning of the story in Act 1 Scene 5. Romeo and Juliet fell in love with each other, but with being a

mirrors the lyrics, We found love in a hopeless place. They had to keep their love a secret since Juliet
is a Capulet and Romeo is a Montague. It makes sense because the Montagues are not friends with the
Capulets and want nothing to do with each other. Yellow Diamonds in the light, we were standing side

While looking into these several types of plays I was able to accumulate enough information to
effectively argue that there is a separate treatment of women versus men who accept deals with the
devil in return for magical powers. This claim is designed to display that the bias between gender is
prevalent enough to allow the use of satanic pacts and devil magic to become acceptable for men in
certain instances but not for women. Through this idea I had to comb through many resources that
would help defend my argument. This being said, I had to chose carefully and effectively what sources
I included in my paper. In order to do this I had to evaluate sources for credibility, bias, quality of

Causes and Effects of Home Schooling Children Imagine that a child is approaching the age when he

receive the best education possible? Can all of the child s emotional, psychological, and intellectual
needs be met at public school? Questions like these are the reason why, so many parents around the
country have chosen to take education into their own hands. Parents lack confidence in public schools
and desire that their children receive a good education. Another cause parents may choose to home

During flu season, public schools are a breeding ground for these types of viruses and bacteria,
causing many students to become sick. Although parents want to protect their children from these
issues, the effects of the alternative home schooling can be just as dramatic. Home schooling children
temporarily protects them from negative things such as teasing, social struggles, and bacteria.
However, there are negative effects of this protection, such as a lack of social skills in home schooled
children. Home schooled children do not interact with as many people as they would if they were in
public school. Oftentimes, home schooled children are not forced to encounter children that are mean
to them, nor are they forced to interact and converse with strangers on a regular basis. This can result
in poor social skills. Joe Fontane, a former home schooled student, had this to say when it comes to
the social aspect of home schooling. When I was 13, my parents switched me into high school after
being home schooled for my whole life. It was a hard time in my life, because I was not used to being
around so many kids, which led to a lot of anxiety. I have a lot of home schooled friends that never
made the switch, and they are just not socially fluent. Patrick Basham, in his book about the effects of
home schooling, claimed that home schooled children are able to socialize in small group activities.
There are many home school programs in which

How Stress Affects The Body
Stress is absolutely affects our body and blood pressure. The stress is temporarily increasing the blood
pressure by causing the heart to beat faster and the blood vessels to narrow. Stress affects the blood
pressure because the body produces a surge of hormones when the person is in a stressful situation and
the hormones increase the blood pressure. The body produces a flow of hormones when the person is
in a stressful situation. When the stress replies happen rarely, the body can improve comparatively fast
form physiological, psychological and emotional changes the stress response brings about. Under the
normal conditions, these changes rapidly subside and present no long term effect.

The renin angiotensin aldosterone system controls blood pressure and fluid balance in the body.
Activation of the renin angiotensin aldosterone system causes increased sodium retention by the
kidneys, which leads to reduced water loss into the urine and therefore blood volume expansion. If the
RAAS is abnormally active, blood pressure will be too high. RAAS activation occurs during heart
failure, which leads to fluid retention in the body. When the plasma sodium concentration is lower
than normal or the renal blood flow is compact, the juxtaglomerular cells in the kidneys convert
prorenin into renin, which is then unseen directly into the circulation. Plasma renin then cuts a short,
10 amino acid long, and peptide off a plasma protein known as angiotensinogen. The short peptide is
known as angiotensin I. Angiotensin I is then converted, by the removal of 2 amino acids, to form an
octapeptide known as angiotensin II, by the enzyme angiotensin converting enzyme found in the lung
capillaries. Angiotensin II is a potent vaso active peptide that causes arterioles to constrict, resulting in
increased arterial blood pressure. Angiotensin II also stimulates the secretion of the hormone
aldosterone from the adrenal cortex. Aldosterone causes the tubular epithelial cells of the kidneys to

A House Not Made With Hands Essay
In 2 Corinthians 5:1, we see the statement made by Paul, a house not made with hands. A few
interpretations for that would be, The body you live in now, Paul says, is like a tent. It can and will be
folded up and destroyed. We have a permanent house in heaven, though, of which God is the architect
and builder. (Ramsay 34), Employing the same word for house (oikia) that he used to describe the
earthly, temporary body that all people are born with, Paul now contrasts with it this new house
awaiting all believers after death. Naturally, since it comes from God, this new house has been built in
God s neighborhood where God himself resides, heaven. Like God, it will also stand solid and secure
forever. Of course such a dwelling could not be built by human construction methods. Only God could
possibly build it. (Baker 202) Phillip Edgcumbe Hughes explains to us, This expression...must not be
misunderstood, for it certainly does not imply that our present dwelling is made with hands. There
may be a hint of the thought that man, by virtue of his faculty of procreation, has a hand in the miracle
of the formation of the earthly body, whereas the new dwelling comes immediately from God. The
expression may also be interpreted in part by reference to Paul s own particular handicraft, namely,
tent making: tents, with the manufacture of which he was so familiar, he naturally thought of as made
with hands. This description, however, which is distinctive to the New Testament, must

at arm s length and left before there was an unbreakable connection established. Instead he replaced
the joy that most people get from human interaction and replaced it with feelings of wonder and
exhilaration that pristine nature brought. He lived happily by never staying in one place for too long
and always having something new to explore, going against the modern day norms. Chris s ultimate
journey is to escape to the Alaska wilderness, where he eventually meets his demise by eating

Performance Enhancing Drugs
The role of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) can be found as far back as 776BC ? 393BC in the
original Olympic Games. (Drug Use in Sports Historical Timeline, 2013) Even back then, the athletes
vied for huge cash prizes, as well as having the honor of wearing the olive wreath. These athletes ate
meat, which was not a normal staple back then, as well as herbal medications, including
hallucinogens, in an effort to boost their performances. In 100AD, Roman gladiators used stimulants
and hallucinogens to avoid fatigue and possible injuries. Even during the Modern Olympic Games in
1904 1920, athletes were using PEDs, made up of a mixture of brandy and strychnine (a stimulant). In
fact, one marathon runner nearly died from such a concoction. Other mixtures, besides strychnine,
included the use of heroin, cocaine, and caffeine; until heroin and cocaine were only available in
prescriptions in the 1920s. So, in 1928, the International Association of Athletics Foundation (IAAF),
the ruling body of track and field, became the first organization to prohibit ?doping? by athletes. On a
side note, the term doping was attributed to the Dutch word ?doop?, which is an opium juice.
Amphetamines were also used during WWII to combat fatigue in soldiers,

Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming is: dreaming while aware that you are dreaming. Webster s definition of lucidity
continues with clearness of thought or style and a presumed capacity to perceive the truth directly and
instantaneously . In this sense, lucid dreaming is associated with controlling one s dreams as they are
happening. It is a term that was coined by Frederik van Eeden in the Proceedings of the Society for
Psychical Research, Vol. 26, 1913:

What is the cause of these different levels of rationality among dreaming? The current thought is
indicating that that there is a lack of understanding about what is and what is not appropriate to the
time and place of the dreamworld (Levitan, A Fool s Guide to Lucid Dreaming , 1994). This theory
postulates that while absurdity is inherent in dreams, lack of practice in dream manipulation can cause
the dreamer to confront ideas that may cause the dreamer to lose control of lucidity. This lack of
understanding may cause the dreamer to misinterpret the dream and to have moments of self doubt.
There are three main situations that tend to initiate loss of control and rationality in a dream: Being
afraid of physical harm; Being afraid of social consequences; Thinking that another dream character is
really there. All of these pitfalls can inhibit a dreamer from achieving a higher state of lucidity in his
dreams.
Why Would You Want to Have Lucid Dreams?
There are many reasons that people will want to have lucid dreams. The first desire for a lucid dream
comes from the pleasure and excitement of being able to control one s dreams and achieve actions that
are not possible. The most common of these dreams is the ability to fly, the

An Anonymous Rape Survivor s Story
It wasn t rape you were being such a tease. NO I said. I covered my vagina with both of my hands and
I said NO! I was with a close male friend and I thought I was safe. I thought I was safe when I went
out drinking with said friend and I thought I was safe when we went to my place to hangout. This is an
anonymous rape survivor s story. These common occurrences affect a fair portion of the population in
Missoula, in comparison to the national average, and something should be done. There is also a low
number of people who are there to support and help the survivors of sexual assault. According to city
data.com in 2014 the rape rate in Missoula was 68.9% and the U.S average was 27.2% per 100,000
pop. Missoula s rape rate has increased every year with a staggering 22.4% increase from 2013. While
the U.S average increased by only 0.4% from 2013. During 2011 Missoula was also named the rape
capital of America. (Crime Rate in Missoula, Montana). With that being said, why is Missoula the
only city with a target on their back? The New York Times reported that a series of events led to a
Federal Justice Department investigation into how the university, the City of Missoula, and Missoula

America experiences, every community experiences at some level, so it s not unique to the University
of Montana, UM President Royce Engstrom said. The stats of rape in Missoula are high in the

Essay On Oil
On the surface, the oil market presents something that is both confusing and complex, as its sheer
volatility (and prior bad press) has worked to put off many an investor in the past. When it comes to
oil, risk is always going to be something that traders have to contend with, but that doesn t mean that
you should necessarily run a mile when the market crosses your path.
Due its standing within the world s economic and political systems, along with its notoriously high
liquidity, oil trading is still something that should carry appeal to active traders. With a sharp eye and

Russian Expert Blend is largely exported to the likes of Italy and the Netherlands. III. Breaking down
the major consuming nations
Globally, the largest consumers of oil are the world s most advanced and developed industrial nations.
These nations include the United States, Germany, Russia, and the United Kingdom. However, over
the past few decades several nations from Asia and the Far East have become officially classified as
major oil consuming nations, including China and Japan.
When trading oil it pays to keep an eye on the major consuming nations, as any increase or decrease in
usage is sure to have an impact on the commodities performance. Something that is also worth
monitoring with this tying into the performance of major consuming nations is OPEC, the
Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. This international organisation works to ensure
both the stablisaiton of the oil markets, along with coordinate and unify petroleum policies. Current
members of OPEC include mass producing oil nations (13 in total, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran,
Iraq, and Qatar). Considering that OPEC has the power to decide policies related to the production and
sale of petroleum oil, it certainly has the power to impact the price, flow, and distribution of oil

Impact Of The Automobile Industry On The Auto Industry
The automobile industry throughout the years has been a major player in the economic structures of
society. The industry as a whole has contributed to all areas of micro, macro, and international
economics in a way that not a whole lot of industries have. The automobile industry was not created
overnight by a single inventor. Numerous companies have come and gone throughout the history of
the automobile. Governments have bailed numerous corporations out, the industry has unemployment
due to outsourcing, and the economic profits of this industry have major factors in decision making
throughout an economic landscape. There have been numerous mergers and acquisitions over the

USA Today reports that there were roughly 210 million licensed drivers in the United States as of
2010. (ask.com) Most people have at least one car, but numerous people drive multiple cars making
the consumer market for automobiles very lucrative if the certain automobile manufacturer can obtain
any sort of brand loyalty. The automobile industry is led by four main powerhouses in the United
States. As of May 2015, General Motors has a 17.7% market share, Ford has a 15.1% market share,
Toyota has a 14.5% market share, and Chrysler has a 12.5% market share so far this year. Worldwide,
these numbers vary, but General Motors and Toyota are the leading manufacturers by multiple
percentage points. When analyzing any industry it is best to look at Porter s Five Forces of
Competition model. In the automotive industry, there is not a whole lot of threat of new entrants to the
industry. The industry has high entry barriers, which cause for new entrants to have a hard time
competing with the bigger manufacturers. The economies of scale limit competition as well. There is
really no threat of substitute products in the automobile industry either. An automobile provides
convenience, independence, and a quicker way of getting to a destination. In some cities the threat of
mass transit poses a little threat, but transit like New York, Boston, and Chicago are not readily
available in rural America. There is a large amount of buyer power

People used to walk out of their homes without the fear of their children being harmed. However, the
increase of gang violence in Brownsville, has lead many people to fear being outside of their homes,
due to the fear of being robbed or murdered. Wave Gang and Hood Starz are two popular gangs in
Brownsville, and are believed to be the blame for six homicides and thirty two shooting episodes in
2012 (Kormanik). These gangs strictly focus on being in control of certain streets and buildings in
Brownsville, which leads them to viciously mark their territory. For example, in October of 2012 there
was a rooftop episode in which these two gangs were shooting from roof to roof. As a result, Zurana
Horton was fatally shot and murdered while attempting to shield her children from the bullets, leaving
residents of Brownsville terrified (Kormanik). Residents do not feel comfortable allowing their
children to play outside because they feel that gangs have terrorized their neighborhood. This is a
major issue because it should never be acceptable for people to feel uncomfortable in a place where
they pay thousands of dollars for rent. Teenagers are turning to gangs simply because they are bored
and are not occupied. They are not in school or involved in any sort of enrichment programs. Although
several gangs came together to march in solidarity with clergy for peace, gang violence and the use of
guns have rapidly increased. There are so many shootings that occur on a daily basis that cops are

A Small Place By Christopher Columbus
Colonization was used as early as the 18th century to expand a particular country s territory.
Essentially it supposed to be a positive thing, expanding the territory s resources such as medicine,
and education. Jamaica Kincaid, however, plead the opposite. In her book, A Small Place, she
expounded on the after effects of colonialism on her small island, Antigua. The Island, discovered by
Christopher Columbus, is only nine by twelve miles long, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and the
Atlantic Ocean (Kincaid, 80), which has swallowed up a number of black slaves (Kincaid, 14).

Kincaid believes that the slave like structure of the government was led by colonialism. She expressed
her anger toward the colonists for colonizing the small island, turning it into England and turning
everyone they met into English (24). She writes, Have you ever wonder to yourself why it is that all
people like me seem to have learned from you is how to imprison and murder each other, how to
govern badly...? Have you ever wondered why it is that all we seem to have learned from you is how
to corrupt our societies and how to be tyrants (Kincaid, 34)? Kincaid wanted the colonist to realize it
is by their own faults and their imperfections that Antigua is in the state that is in now. Kincaid also
believed that colonialism caused the political corruption that has defrauded Antigua of many rights,
such as the right to knowledge. She believed that the Ministers of Antigua gained knowledge to
govern from the Ill mannered British who paved the way for them (34). Throughout her book she has
made it very clear that the library is an important source of knowledge for her as it should be for other
Antiguan s as well. She reminisced on her childhoods experiences at the library as her own sacred

1984 Dystopia Analysis
The idea of a utopia sounds like a great idea, however it always turns into a feared dystopia. This is
exactly what happens in the novel, 1984 and in the notorious group, The Ku Klux Klan. The definition
of Utopia is an imaginary and indefinitely remote place (Utopia). The illusion these groups create

imaginary place where people lead dehumanized and often fearful lives (Dystopia). The KKK and

Nefertiti Book Report
Nefertiti by Michelle Moran is an entertaining book about the famous Royal Wife of Akhenaten. The
novel is told from the point of view of Nefertiti s little sister, Mutnodjmet. It begins immediately
before Nefertiti is chosen to become Akhenaten s Chief Wife. The book follows Nefertiti and her
family throughout their life as the royal family in Memphis and then transitioning into the move to
Amarna. The story stops only after the death of Nefertiti and Meritaten and the crowning of
Tutankhamun as Pharaoh of Egypt. Moran captures a Nefertiti that is ambitious, powerful, and
sometimes scared. Nefertiti is thrown into the royal family as a teenager and was told to try and
control the heretic Pharaoh, Akhenaten. At many times, the reader gets a glimpse of that worried and
terrified young girl, but throughout most of the novel, Nefertiti is portrayed to be a strong and

Chymotrypsin mimics. D Souza along with other researchers were investigated the use of an artificial
chymotrypsin with the binding site of cyclodextrin with the catalytic site of an imidazolyl group, a
carboxylic acid and a hydroxyl acid. The synthetic chymotrypsin has a reduced molecular weight and
they believed that the real and artificial enzyme had the same catalytic activity. The model enzyme as
seen in figure 1 has a molecular weight of 1365 g mol 1 and is made up of 24 serine proteases. The
active site is only known through X ray crystallography and because of this knowledge surrounding
the mechanism is limited. The crystallography data shows the proposed mechanism involves three
main molecules in the active site. These are serine 195, histidine 57 and aspartate 102. They believe

Southern Vowel Shift In Southern English
Introduction
Southern American English is one of the most widely recognized dialects of American English;
however, it is also the most negatively viewed dialect of American English followed closely only by
New York City speech. With this negative view comes the perception that those that speak this dialect
of Standard American English are ignorant. This could not be farther from the truth. According to
many linguists, the Southern American English dialect is rooted in British regional dialect and is the
only dialect that still sounds much like our ancestors. (PBS) Some unique features of Southern
American English are well known such as saying y all for you all; useta for used to; and fixin to for I
intend to, along with the well known southern drawl that comes from the Southern Vowel Shift.
Although the Southern English dialect touches most of the southern states within the United States,
Louisiana does not consist of the same features due to the French influence on language.
Phonology Southern American English possesses many phonological features that make it unique
from Standard American English (*SAE), but the Southern Vowel Shift may be the most recognized
feature of the Southern English dialect. The Southern Vowel Shift affected most of the southern states,
but each stage of this shift may have impacted different regions of the south. For instance, the merger
of vowels in words like pen and pin began occurring as early as the second quarter of the nineteenth

How Does Shakespeare Present Iago s Character In Othello
Throughout literature, authors manipulate their characters in certain manners to help the audience
discover their identities and their personalities. One way that William Shakespeare presents Iago s
character in Othello is through Iago s sacrifices. Shakespeare communicates Iago s pure craving for
revenge through what Iago is willing to give up and emphasizes just how far Iago s envy will persuade
him to go. Iago is willing to sacrifice all the honor that is and could ever be associated with his name
just for the idea of Othello s downfall. As the play progresses, Iago continues to be possessed by a
wild desire to ruin Othello, and as he continues to act upon this desire, he finds himself enwrapped in
complex and ever changing lies. At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the fact that Iago is angry with Othello and Cassio, Iago should not be mad enough about the
promotion to lead it to the end of Othello or the murder of Desdemona. While it is understandable that
he would be mad, Iago does not have a reason to be this angry and this creates a complexity to Iago s
character that makes him an interesting villain. The audience can conclude that Iago simply enjoys the
idea of hurting others. He is flattered by how manipulative and sneaky he is, and often times
throughout the play, he will have an aside speech where he tells the audience just what he has done
and what it will lead to. Iago s character is very diverse, yet simple at the same time. He enjoys the art
of evil and seeing others suffer. This contributes a great deal to the play because once it is evident to
the audience that there is not much standing in the way between Iago and evil, it is understood that he
will not stop until he feels that he has got his revenge. It can also be understood that in order for Iago
to feel truly satisfied, there will need to be pain and harm towards Othello, and perhaps even Cassio.
This allows the audience to prepare and ponder just what Iago might

Some of the time the gift is simply wisdom (Campbell). The quote from The Odyssey is supported by
the quote from the Hero s Journey because Athena, a goddess, is a supernatural element, and helps
Odysseus by providing him information about the situation at his palace. Athena helps Odysseus with
the means to complete his adventure by preparing him for his supreme ordeal.
Odysseus must overcome his ultimate challenge, the supreme ordeal, in order to finish his journey.
Odysseus has to kill the suitors that are trying to steal his wife and his kingdom. With Athena s help,
Odysseus disguises himself as a beggar to sneak into the castle. He then plans out an attack on the
suitors by trapping them in a room where he will kill them all off. After Odysseus successfully

action on the suitors; he screams out You yellow dogs, you thought I d never make it home from the

as the supreme ordeal as once the obstacle is overcome, the tension will be relieved... the worst is

Euthyphro-Plato
Euthyphro s well known impasse pertaining to the characteristic of piety is one of the many dialogues
written by the Greek philosopher Plato detailing the pursuit for wisdom by his mentor, Socrates. This
well known impasse regarding the nature of piety presents the question of whether or not piety is an
act or thing loved by the gods? Regardless if an act is considered right or wrong, the truth or a lie, just
or unjust, and holy or unholy, all are the basis of contentious debates difficult within society. Finding
common ground within these oppositions can be challenging because of the diversity of cultural,
religious, and moral values, and beliefs in society. Such is the situation with Socrates and Euthyphro.
Plato s Euthyphro is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Euthyphro believes that for a man to be holy to the gods, he must act accordingly, and do what is
pleasing to the gods. Taking care of the gods is doing service for the gods. This definition seems to
lead to the idea that prayer and sacrifice will get a person what he or she wants as long as it is
considered holy by the gods. This explanation indicates that either the gods recognize holy things and
love them because they are holy, or the gods love these things that they are holy. It is only because the
gods love these things that they are holy. For why would we need the gods if things are holy and
unholy independently of them? Socrates wanted to know the definition of piety and was not asking for
an example of it. As the conversation between Euthyphro and Socrates progressed it seems that there
was no final definition given. The dialogue ends without thoroughly explaining anything about a real
definition, and leaving Euthyphro frustrated and perplexed by Socrates responses. The dialogue
concludes without a real definition of holiness. Socrates indicated that each person has his or her own
interpretation. I believe that another main message of this dialogue left by Socrates is that no one,
including himself can know everything about anything, and that there will always be more to learn.
People should strive to make their own conclusions, thinking for themselves, and viewing issues from
many angles. Personally, my definition of piety is maintaining good moral

Bad Leadership Research Paper
Leadership is both a complex and a multifaceted concept defined in different styles in diverse
contexts. In its traditional sense, leadership is all about influencing the organizational activities, as
well as people affiliated with that particular firm aiming at attaining certain predetermined goals. The
influence that a person tasked with leadership roles and responsibilities has determines whether he/she
is a quality leader or a bad leader. Indeed, the success of any contemporary enterprise depends on the
type of leaders that the organization recruits; quality or bad. It is readily apparent that quality leaders
base their leadership on getting followers to like them while bad leaders typically apply coercive

Death Of A Salesman Conflict Analysis
Conflict is a key element in all works of literature. In Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman, all
characters in the book confront conflict at one point in time or another. However, Willy Loman the
main character in the play, is confronted with a lot of conflicts throughout the entirety of the play.
Perhaps the biggest one is between his son Biff and each of their interpretation of the American
Dream.
Biff and Willy have an on going father son conflict throughout the play on what it means to be
successful. When Biff returns home from the Midwest, Willy sees it as a failure. Willy has spent all of
Biff s life trying to get him to become a successful salesman and be like him. However, Willy and Biff
have different interpretations on what it means to be successful and live the American Dream. Biff
wants to work outdoors with his hands because he thinks that is the greatest thing a man can do. This
contrast on the American Dream and how one becomes successful, builds up throughout the play up
until their last conflict in act 2. Willy is persistently asking Biff why he doesn t become a salesman,

(Gilman 30). In other words, Theresa develops a clue as to what Tony does not understand, so the
violent act does not come clearly through the play. It is only when she does not see him that she has
more problems for herself. She is forced to consider cultural factor that may be contributing to her
dilemma (Solomonson 202). Theresa is unsure how to proceed dealing with Tony after he leaves.
Unlike the way Carol treats John demanding for answers, Tony is less present, only after the first date
while Carol visits John two more time after their first initial encounter. In both cases, Carol and Tony
represent how they undermine one s ability, in which John and Theresa are more concerned with
themselves and they do no think about their surroundings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every time John deals with either his wife of Jerry (his lawyer), he is more fed up that nothing goes
right that he hesitates when responding ...it s not a question of the deposit...will you call Jerry (Mamet
34). When he is unable to express his feelings on the phone, he takes it out on Carol looking for
comfort stating I am doing you the courtesy. I m talking straight to you (Mamet 35). By his actions
John establishe[s] the rules and that is a form of power abuse (Gándara 177). It is Carol who uses John
s action as a way to attack him when he interrupts her. Taking into consideration that Carol initiates
the act of meeting him in his office suggest that she does not in fact realize the damaged she has
caused. John however makes it a fault to use his personal life in a way to punish Carol, in which the
stage directions explains He restrains her from leaving (Mamet

Hamlet Essay
Hamlet Each major character of Shakespeare s Hamlet has a major flaw, which destroys him or her.
The King, Queen, Hamlet, Ophelia, and Polonius all have these flaws but Horatio does not. He is
Shakespeare s ideal man.
Claudius fatal flaw is ambitiousness. Claudius kills his brother King Hamlet and then takes the throne
by marrying King Hamlet s wife: Therefore our sometime sister, now our queen...have we (as twere
with a defeated joy, with an auspicious and a dropping eye, with mirth in funeral and with dirge in
marriage, in equal scale weighing delight and dole) taken to wife (I.ii.10 14).
Claudius admits to killing the King in a confessional prayer:

And yet , within a month (let me not think on t; frailty, thy name is woman!)...(O God, a beast that
wants discourse of reason would have mourned longer!), married with my uncle... (I.ii.142, 147 150,
155 156). Gertrude trusts King Claudius and because of her trust her fate becomes death:
King: Gertrude, do not drink.
Queen: I will, my lord; I pray you pardon me. [She drinks]
King: [aside] It is the poisoned cup. It is too late...
Queen: No, no, the drink, the drink! O, my dear
Hamlet! The drink, the drink! I am poisoned.
Hamlet s passivity is his flaw. The deceased King Hamlet s ghost tells Hamlet to get revenge: Revenge
his foul and most unnatural murder (I.v.31) and by telling him this he misses the opportunity to kill
King Claudius: Now might I do it *pat*, now he is a praying, and now I ll do t. And so he goes to
heaven, and so am I *revenged*...A villain kills my father, and for that, I, his sole son, do this same
villain send to heaven. Why, this is [something Claudius should pay me for], not revenge. He took my
father grossly, full of bread, with all his crimes broad blown, as flush as May; and how his audit stands
who knows save heaven. But in our circumstance and course of thought tis heavy with him. And am I
then revenged to take him in the purging

Kone Monospace
KONE: MONOSPACE LAUNCH IN GERMANY
Factors contributed to the launch performance of KONE on the Netherlands, France and UK? When
launched, sales of KONE s Monospace was the highest in Netherlands, then France and in UK none
was sold in the first 3 months. Monospace is an elevator invented by KONE using the latest
technology that uses an EcoDisc that eliminates the use of a machine room and further incur
significant energy cost savings for the building management. It is an upgraded version for geared
traction elevators. There is more construction freedom and construction costs could be saved using
Monospace too. The technology of Monospace then could be used for buildings of 12 floors or less.
Hence KONE marketing team targets the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The space saved could be used for other revenue generating activities which will further please clients.
Without building an extra machine room also saves some construction costs. Construction players are
normally tight on budget, the savings gives them flexibility to adjust their profits. In addition,
changing to Monospace requires minimal changes of their original architectural designs. 2. Energy
efficiency As mentioned in the case, the construction boom has ended and there are at most 26% of
existing buildings have a chance of upgrading to Monospace. This point would be important to
existing building managements as their monthly cost could be reduced substantially if they upgrade to
Monospace elevators. Monospace consumes a third of energy a hydraulic elevator consumes and half
of what a geared traction elevator consumes. Its speed is also at 1 mtr/s similar to a geared traction
elevator. These monthly savings can be seen on the bills and they add up to a substantial amount
annually. For construction managers and architects, this value could be used to impress clients. 3.
Lower fire potential Monospace elevators unlike hydraulic and geared traction elevators, do not
require oil for operation. It reduces fire potential which is a great problem for residential areas. It is
also one strong point of difference that KONE possess against competitors.

From KONE s financial perspective, what are the 3 most important

Cars And Their Enemies Of Promise Summary
Is Science Our Enemy?
Science is not only an important role in the human culture, but also (science) helps people in
multifarious ways in today s world. However, people said that science will hurt human, and they set a
block on the scientific road. In the article Enemies of Promise wrote by the professor of microbiology
at University of California, San Francisco who named Bishop, Michael J. He mentions about even
though(although) science already helped people to solve problems, (but) there are many people still do
not support science. Moreover, the author of Cars and Their Enemies James Q. Wilson is a professor
emeritus at UCLA and one of America s mist respected social critics and conservative thinker. He
states that most people would like to travel by car instead of bicycle or train in his article, but he also
mentions about that some people who said that this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In our real lives, the society usually improves through science. In the article Cars and Their Enemies
wrote by James Q. Wilson, he talks about how cars bring people conveniences and improve the
society. He also states that car makes people s lives freer and more pleasurable (Wilson ). As
everybody know, the United States is a country on wheels, especially in Southern California. Cars are
very important for a person who lives in the suburbs of Southern California, students need them to go
to school, ladies need it to go to the mall, and guys need it to go to gym. Otherwise, people will have
to limit the chooses of their house. Moreover, Wilson also mentions that people always love to choose
transportation based on individual instead of social preferences. In other words, cars provide
convenient living and option to people, and this is what science brings to people. We should support
and respect science instead of adopt a hostile attitude towards science because of what it did to

The Gap Between Energy Consumption And Energy Generation
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Background
The gap between energy consumption and energy generation is gradually increasing and has become a
significant problem for both domestic and industrial applications. Furthermore, conventional energy
sources, like fossil fuels, are not fulfilling the energy needs of the developing world. And, although
they are still major energy sources for both the industrial and domestic sectors of the world s economy,
they are also responsible for many problem, such as environmental pollution and climate change.
Alternative energy sources are essential for, and the best solution to, both decreasing the use of fossil
fuels and fulfilling energy demands more healthily and cleanly. The major problem with ... Show more

The electrical energy method stores electrical energy with the use of batteries. This method is
generally considered the best, most prevalent technique when compared to others. The thermal energy
storage (TES) method, on the other hand, stores energy by changing the internal energy of materials.
There are three types of thermal energy storage; viz., sensible heat, latent heat, and thermochemical
energy storage. These are illustrated in Figure 1 below [1].
Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) is a particularly appealing method due to its having a
high energy storage capacity, with it storing 5 to 14 times more heat per unit volume when compared
to the conventional sensible heat storage method. The latent heat storage method is a system based on
the charging and discharging of heat once a given storage material subject changes phases from liquid
to solid or from liquid to gas. Additionally, the latent heat storage system stores energy at a constant,
or near constant, temperature during the process of changing phases which, in turn, depends on the
characteristic structure of the phase change materials (PCMs).
Figure 1. Different types of thermal energy storage methods [2]
The Motivation of this Study
For three decades, many techniques have been used for the purpose of storing latent heat thermal
energy by applying different phase change materials. PCMs. are also known as latent heat storage
materials.

Buildings like the Capitol, the White House, and even the Lincoln Memorial were designed with the intended purpose of portraying the intimidating architecture of Ancient Greece. In fashion, elaborate clothing crafted by designers imitate early Greek attire to display a regal femininity or a warrior like masculinity. For entertainment purposes, books, television shows, and movies are used to carry on the myths and stories of the Greek gods and Heroes. Depending on each myth, the story could have been compromised from the act of being passed down from generation to generation. In the original myth of Perseus, multiple archetypes were used and provided stereotypical roles in the myth. However, the modern day Clash of the Titans movie portrayed the myth in a completely different context, added or removed new characters and even changed the archetype of the characters, thus changing the meaning of the story. ... Oftentimes, home schooled children are not forced to encounter children that are mean to them, nor are they forced to interact and converse with strangers on a regular basis. The renin angiotensin aldosterone system controls blood pressure and fluid balance in the body. Activation of the renin angiotensin aldosterone system causes increased sodium retention by the kidneys, which leads to reduced water loss into the urine and therefore blood volume expansion. If the RAAS is abnormally active, blood pressure will be too high. RAAS activation occurs during heart failure, which leads to fluid retention in the body. When the plasma sodium concentration is lower than normal or the renal blood flow is compact, the juxtaglomerular cells in the kidneys convert prorenin into renin, which is then unseen directly into the circulation. Plasma renin then cuts a short, 10 amino acid long, and peptide off a plasma protein known as angiotensinogen. The short peptide is known as angiotensin I. (Ramsay 34), Employing the same word for house (oikia) that he used to describe the earthly, temporary body that all people are born with, Paul now contrasts with it this new house awaiting all believers after death. Naturally, since it comes from God, this new house has been built in God s neighborhood where God himself resides, heaven. Like God, it will also stand solid and secure forever. Of course such a dwelling could not be built by human construction methods. Only God could possibly build it. (Baker 202) Phillip Edgcumbe Hughes explains to us, This expression...must not be misunderstood, for it certainly does not imply that our present dwelling is made with hands. There may be a hint of the thought that man, by virtue of his faculty of procreation, has a hand in the miracle of the formation of the earthly body, whereas the new dwelling comes immediately from God. This theory postulates that while absurdity is inherent in dreams, lack of practice in dream manipulation can cause the dreamer to confront ideas that may cause the dreamer to lose control of lucidity. This lack of understanding may cause the dreamer to misinterpret the dream and to have moments of self doubt. There are three main situations that tend to initiate loss of control and rationality in a dream: Being afraid of physical harm; Being afraid of social consequences; Thinking that another dream character is really there. When trading oil it pays to keep an eye on the major consuming nations, as any increase or decrease in usage is sure to have an impact on the commodities performance. Something that is also worth monitoring with this tying into the performance of major consuming nations is OPEC, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. This international organisation works to ensure both the stablisaiton of the oil markets, along with coordinate and unify petroleum policies. Current members of OPEC include mass producing oil nations (13 in total, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Iraq, and Qatar). Wave Gang and Hood Starz are two popular gangs in Brownsville, and are believed to be the blame for six homicides and thirty two shooting episodes in 2012 (Kormanik). These gangs strictly focus on being in control of certain streets and buildings in Brownsville, which leads them to viciously mark their territory. For example, in October of 2012 there was a rooftop episode in which these two gangs were shooting from roof to roof. As a result, Zurana Horton was fatally shot and murdered while attempting to shield her children from the bullets, leaving residents of Brownsville terrified (Kormanik). Residents do not feel comfortable allowing their children to play outside because they feel that gangs have terrorized their neighborhood. Southern Vowel Shift In Southern English Introduction Southern American English is one of the most widely recognized dialects of American English; however, it is also the most negatively viewed dialect of American English followed closely only by New York City speech. With this negative view comes the perception that those that speak this dialect of Standard American English are ignorant. This could not be farther from the truth. According to many linguists, the Southern American English dialect is rooted in British regional dialect and is the only dialect that still sounds much like our ancestors. Iago is willing to sacrifice all the honor that is and could ever be associated with his name just for the idea of Othello s downfall. The audience can conclude that Iago simply enjoys the idea of hurting others. He is flattered by how manipulative and sneaky he is, and often times throughout the play, he will have an aside speech where he tells the audience just what he has done and what it will lead to. Iago s character is very diverse, yet simple at the same time. He enjoys the art of evil and seeing others suffer. This contributes a great deal to the play because once it is evident to the audience that there is not much standing in the way between Iago and evil, it is understood that he will not stop until he feels that he has got his revenge. It can also be understood that in order for Iago to feel truly satisfied, there will need to be pain and harm towards Othello, and perhaps even Cassio. Regardless if an act is considered right or wrong, the truth or a lie, just or unjust, and holy or unholy, all are the basis of contentious debates difficult within society. Euthyphro believes that for a man to be holy to the gods, he must act accordingly, and do what is pleasing to the gods. Taking care of the gods is doing service for the gods. This definition seems to lead to the idea that prayer and sacrifice will get a person what he or she wants as long as it is considered holy by the gods. This explanation indicates that either the gods recognize holy things and love them because they are holy, or the gods love these things that they are holy. It is only because the gods love these things that they are holy. For why would we need the gods if things are holy and unholy independently of them? Socrates wanted to know the definition of piety and was not asking for an example of it. As the conversation between Euthyphro and Socrates progressed it seems that there was no final definition given. The dialogue ends without thoroughly explaining anything about a real definition, and leaving Euthyphro frustrated and perplexed by Socrates responses. The dialogue concludes without a real definition of holiness. Socrates indicated that each person has his or her own interpretation. I believe that another main message of this dialogue left by Socrates is that no one, including himself can know everything about anything, and that there will always be more to learn. In addition, changing to Monospace requires minimal changes of their original architectural designs. 2. Energy efficiency As mentioned in the case, the construction boom has ended and there are at most 26% of existing buildings have a chance of upgrading to Monospace. This point would be important to existing building managements as their monthly cost could be reduced substantially if they upgrade to Monospace elevators. Monospace consumes a third of energy a hydraulic elevator consumes and half of what a geared traction elevator consumes. Its speed is also at 1 mtr/s similar to a geared traction elevator. These monthly savings can be seen on the bills and they add up to a substantial amount annually. For construction managers and architects, this value could be used to impress clients. 3. Lower fire potential Monospace elevators unlike hydraulic and geared traction elevators, do not require oil for operation. It reduces fire potential which is a great problem for residential areas. It is also one strong point of difference that KONE possess against competitors. KONE: MONOSPACE LAUNCH IN GERMANY From KONE s financial perspective, what are the 3 most important ... • 41. Cars And Their Enemies Of Promise Summary Is Science Our Enemy? Science is not only an important role in the human culture, but also (science) helps people in multifarious ways in today s world. However, people said that science will hurt human, and they set a block on the scientific road. In the article Enemies of Promise wrote by the professor of microbiology at University of California, San Francisco who named Bishop, Michael J. He mentions about even though(although) science already helped people to solve problems, (but) there are many people still do not support science. Moreover, the author of Cars and Their Enemies James Q. Wilson is a professor emeritus at UCLA and one of America s mist respected social critics and conservative thinker. He states that most people would like to travel by car instead of bicycle or train in his article, but he also mentions about that some people who said that this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In our real lives, the society usually improves through science. In the article Cars and Their Enemies wrote by James Q. Wilson, he talks about how cars bring people conveniences and improve the society. He also states that car makes people s lives freer and more pleasurable (Wilson ). As everybody know, the United States is a country on wheels, especially in Southern California. Cars are very important for a person who lives in the suburbs of Southern California, students need them to go to school, ladies need it to go to the mall, and guys need it to go to gym. Otherwise, people will have to limit the chooses of their house. Moreover, Wilson also mentions that people always love to choose transportation based on individual instead of social preferences. In other words, cars provide convenient living and option to people, and this is what science brings to people. We should support and respect science instead of adopt a hostile attitude towards science because of what it did to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Gap Between Energy Consumption And Energy Generation CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Background The gap between energy consumption and energy generation is gradually increasing and has become a significant problem for both domestic and industrial applications. Furthermore, conventional energy sources, like fossil fuels, are not fulfilling the energy needs of the developing world. And, although they are still major energy sources for both the industrial and domestic sectors of the world s economy, they are also responsible for many problem, such as environmental pollution and climate change. Alternative energy sources are essential for, and the best solution to, both decreasing the use of fossil fuels and fulfilling energy demands more healthily and cleanly. The major problem with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The electrical energy method stores electrical energy with the use of batteries. This method is generally considered the best, most prevalent technique when compared to others. The thermal energy storage (TES) method, on the other hand, stores energy by changing the internal energy of materials. There are three types of thermal energy storage; viz., sensible heat, latent heat, and thermochemical energy storage. These are illustrated in Figure 1 below [1]. Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) is a particularly appealing method due to its having a high energy storage capacity, with it storing 5 to 14 times more heat per unit volume when compared to the conventional sensible heat storage method. The latent heat storage method is a system based on the charging and discharging of heat once a given storage material subject changes phases from liquid to solid or from liquid to gas. Additionally, the latent heat storage system stores energy at a constant, or near constant, temperature during the process of changing phases which, in turn, depends on the characteristic structure of the phase change materials (PCMs). Figure 1. Different types of thermal energy storage methods [2] The Motivation of this Study For three decades, many techniques have been used for the purpose of storing latent heat thermal energy by applying different phase change materials. PCMs. are also known as latent heat storage materials. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
