Gene Luan Born Chinese Analysis
There are several themes throughout Gene Luan Yang s graphic, picture paneled novel, American Born
Chinese. The thematic focus of this paper will be Yang s portrayal of the challenges faced by multicultural
ethnicities searching for cultural acceptance in a white America. This novel tells of three different stories
which ultimately merge and progress with one another. Initially, it appears as though there are three main
characters: Monkey King, a legend who rules over Flower Mountain, Jin Wang, an Asian third grader who
has moved from San Francisco to a stereotypical middle class white American suburb, and finally, Danny.
Danny is an American white boy Jin has created to hide his Chinese culture to fit in better with his
classmates. Eventually, the stories come together, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American Born Chinese is a story which echoes the determination of each character trying their best to rise
above the prejudices and preconceived notions of the cultural majority.
It is important to examine the transparent theme of injustices forced upon minority groups trying to blend in
with their peers of the majority race. The book s leading character, Jin Wang, has been thrust into a classroom
where he is the only Asian boy. Immediately, on his first day of school, stereotyping commences as the
teacher incorrectly introduces Jin as having moved from China. Class I d like to give a warm Mayflower
Elementary welcome to your new friend and classmate Jin Jang [Jin Wang]...Jin Wang! He and his family
recently moved to our neighborhood all the way from China [San Francisco]...San Francisco! (Yang 30)
There lies the first of many blows to Jin s culture as his teacher assumes he came straight from China simply
because of his name and physical attributes. Students hop on the bandwagon by saying, My momma says
Chinese people eat dogs and the teacher responds by saying, Now be nice Timmy, I m sure Jin doesn t do
that! In fact,

Art Therapy Health
In this section of lectures in Introduction to CHHS, Health Care and Rehabilitation were the main topics that
were discussed as well as different organizations that worked in this specific section of health and human
services. The lectures included: Psychiatric Nursing , Crisis Intervention , Medical Yoga Therapy , Art
Therapy , Therapeutic Animals. Although this may not have been my favorite section overall, this segment
did include my new favorite lecture, Art Therapy. A few new terms that were introduced to me during these
lectures were: the occupation of an Art therapist, the art spectrum, the domination versus partnership system
for collaboration, the BPS pentagon, and the concept that yoga medicine is not the same as a yoga class, ...

Due to the fact that yoga therapy, art therapy, and psychiatric nursing are all specialties, the educators talked
from personal experience how collaboration is very important with other specialists, especially in the field of

about diversity, other than in the Psychiatric Nursing presentation where the professional discussed how
many men are beginning to enter the field as nurses which is adding a wider diversity to the nursing

Pcp Research Papers
Angel dust, PeaCe pills, super grass, and zoom are all street names for Phencyclidine, or PCP for short. If
PCP is mixed with marijuana, it is known as dust blunt, happy sticks, or dippers. If PCP is mixed with
ecstasy, or also known as MDMA, then it is called elephant flipping or Pikachu. Only the history of PCP can
tell us where some of these exotic names for this drug came from. PCP was originally developed as an
anesthetic for human in the 1950 s and eventually made its way to become a tranquilizer in veterinarian
medicine (Rudgley, 1998. Karch, 1998). Eventually in 1965, the legal use of this drug was ended due to
severe side effects to the user. Despite the fact that PCP became illegal, Clandestine laboratories
manufactured and sold this drug in a pill form, which gave way to one of its strange name known as the
PeaCe Pill (Karch, 1998). A clandestine laboratory is an illegally run operation usually by gangs to
manufacture illegal drugs. By 1978 the drug became widely popular due to these illegal laboratories and ...

This means that every time a person goes to take more PCP, they have to start taking a higher dose to get the
same high effect as before. Most hallucinogens are not addictive, PCP however is majorly addictive. PCP
dependence is shown by the withdrawal symptoms, such as extreme depression and psychosis. Treatment for
addiction is antidepressants and counseling through an inpatient facility. The correct treatment is needed for
PCP users because withdrawal symptoms could be so severe that it could lead to seizures. An inpatient
program is also necessary because of relapse. Some of the top reasons for relapse is stress, negative
emotions, and people or places associated with the negative behavior, therefore it is crucial to have a support

Compare And Contrast Hedda Gabler And Oedipus The King
Ibsen and Sophocles are distinct writers from different periods and culture. They both wrote plays and stories
with strong protagonists who the readers don t enjoy, but, whose fate is somewhat tragic in a sense that elicits
the reader s sympathy for the sense of wasted potential and tragic loss. Personally, I agree with this statement
because from both authors books like Ibsen Hedda Gabler and Sophocles Oedipus The King ; the readers did
not like the main characters, but the reader does sympathize. The protagonists from both plays do portray
themselves as people that others don t like, but as the plays goes on; the protagonists begin to reveal
themselves and their struggles. In which, the readers would sympathize.
On Sophocles text Oedipus the King , Sophocles begins the play with the main character: Oedipus is this
heroic person who is to find out the cause of the disease that is spreading across the city and causing so many
to die. Oedipus is a person who is brave and intelligent because he was the one to solve the sphinx riddle and
to kill her. On page 483, paragraph 4, Sophocles describes the backstory of how Oedipus becomes famous in
the city of Thebes, ... When he reached Thebes, he found the city oppressed by a dreadful female monster, a
Sphinx part human, part lion, often also depicted in Greek art with the wings of an eagle and the tail of a
snake. The Sphinx refused to let anyone into the city unless they could answer her riddle [...] She strangled

Finding False Memories Of The Mall
Texperiences.
Some people might argue that getting lost in the mall is too common of an experience to demonstrate false
memories. For this argument, Hyman et al. constructed an experiment to show the occurrence of false
memories in less that common childhood events including spilling punch at a wedding and a sprinkler system
going off a at grocery store. For one variation of this study, Hyman et al. implanted the memory of an
overnight hospitalization with a high fever, and possible ear infection. The participants were told they were
going to be asked about events from their childhood based on information provided by their parents. They
were then given the titles of the events (including the false visit to the hospital) and asked to ... Show more

Some ideas in the field include looking at the response speed of the recollection of memories, and the
emotion felt when recalling the memory (Reisberg). A common assumption is that the confidence with which
memory is recalled could indicate its accuracy. However, there is very little association with how sure
someone is about the occurrence of an event and how accurate their recollection is. We are often sure of our
false memories.
Smith, Ellsworth, and Kassin explain this in their study on Eyewitness Accuracy and Confidence. They note
that most officials in court cases overwhelmingly believe confidence in eyewitness testimony to be positively
correlated with accuracy. To disprove this, they studied about 100 undergraduate students from Stanford
University. They had the students watch a car accident, participate in a filler task, and then answer questions
about the car accident. They were asked to rate the confidence on their answers on a scale of 1 (no clue) to 10
(absolutely sure). The researchers then computed the correlation of accuracy and confidence and found the
same conclusion as Reisberg explained: confidence can not be solid an indicator of accuracy (Smith 358).
In fact, the more we are asked to recall a memory, the more confident we become, which is unfortunate
because it s easy to create a false memory. Let us take an

Speech About My Mother
My mother, Mrs. Naomi Jackson Rhodman a Christian, wife, mother, and social activist. When I think about
my momma, some of her favorite things come to mind, her favorite color, blue, her favorite food, vegetables,
and favorite dessert, cake. Mahalia Jackson, her favorite Gospel singer and favorite gospel songs: Oh How I
Love Jesus and Precious Lord . My momma, oh boy, could she SING! Singing Precious Lord would bring
tears to my eyes. My mother s voice had great versatility, momma could sing soprano, tenor, and alto most
singers can only sing in one voice. Whatever the melody needed, she could sing it, the music of the choir was
sweeter because momma was singing. The extra time in her schedule went to the church, serving as the
church treasurer and as a member of the Board of Trustees. Momma and daddy (George Rhodman) were very
active in our church, Standfield, and our community. Love of the Lord, family, and all people, my parents
exemplified that unconditional love. In fact, momma designed our church edifice and daddy built it with their
own resources. Serving the church with dedication, professionalism, and their service blessed all. Health
challenges curtailed my parent s participation in church events, but their faithful service for all those years
continues to bless us. The success that I have realized in my life and the ministry can be tied to my parent s

table. The above scores can be used to make a decision rule to classify a customer into the user or non user
category based on the responses given by them in the questionnaire. The cut off score for classifying a buyer
and non buyer is given by the formula C = (n2Y1+n1Y2)/ (n1+n2) From the data obtained from the survey,
we have identified 50 non users and 39 users. Thus substituting n1= 52 and n2=39, Y1= 1.029 and Y2=

The Importance Of Religious Freedoms In The United States
It is often stated throughout this great country that we have a right to religious freedoms. Are these freedoms
only available if they fit inside a certain box or guidelines? Often times in our country today we see
individuals who are constantly claiming their right to religious freedoms. And often times they are denied
those freedoms by the interpretation of various laws. The First Amendment of the United States of America
Constitution clearly gives us our religious freedom above and beyond all created laws. This leads to the fact
that all laws should abide by the First Amendment. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution clearly
states Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise ...

Yes, that s right businesses. What religious freedom does is that it fosters respect by protecting something
that more than eight in ten people worldwide, 84 percent according to a recent Pew Research study, identify
with a religious faith , (Grim, 2014), encourages peace, develops an economy, which in turn can reduce
corruption. In turn religious freedoms also encourages broader freedoms that can contribute to positive
economic development. Many argue that social development requires the removal of sources of un freedom
and restrictions on religions in such countries like Saudi Arabia and Dubai. Religious freedom also helps with
the development of an economy when religious groups are free to operate in a competitive environment
religion can play a role in major social development of countries. (Grim, 2014) Religious freedoms also
encourage multiples of trust for instance clothing retailer Abercrombie Fitch fought and lost a religious
discrimination case in 2013 related to firing a Muslim stock girl for wearing a scarf in violation of the
company s dress code. The case resulted not only in substantial legal costs but also negative national
publicity. Respect for reasonable accommodation of religious freedom in the workplace can improve
employee morale, increase retention of valued employees, and help with conflict resolution. Moreover,
businesses may gain a competitive advantage by engaging stakeholder expectations that are increasingly
demanding that companies play a positive role in addressing environmental, social and governance
challenges. (Grim,

Moral Compass
There is a difference between having a good or strong moral compass and being a good person. No matter
how much you believe in justice or equality or anything else, as long as you don t actively follow that
compass, you can t honestly call yourself a good person. In fact, that might even make you worse; you know
something is wrong but you do it anyway. On one hand, I like to think that I believe in truth, justice and the
equality of all God s children, but in reality, even if I do believe this, I don t change my actions to fit my own
code.
Lying has always been something that goes against my moral code. While it s not necessarily the utmost
condemnable thing a person can do, it is a more accessible evil. Most people I know don t commit murder or
other grand crimes, but I d venture to say most people I know lie. Ever since I was young, I always felt that
lying was so deeply wrong, purposefully deceiving the people around you. As long as I remember, I would
feel so ashamed whenever I lied, but on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

like a good person and just tell people what they want to hear, I will look fair and relatively moralistic. Your

points needs to choose either their morals or their ambition. Choosing your morals may mean deeper
emotional happiness but choosing your ambitions means great success overall. I may be a hypocrite, and an
unhappy one at that, but considering following my ambitions has worked for me for the past eighteen years, I
m unlikely to stop now. At this point, my ambitions have drawn out a map for me, I ll go to a good college,

What Role Did Religion Play In The 1640s
Q: Why did the English king and Parliament quarrel in the 1640s? What were the most important issues
behind the war between them, and who bears more responsibility for it? What was the Glorious Revolution,
and why did it take place? What role did religion play in the seventeenth century English politics? Do you
think the victory of Parliament over the monarchy in England was inevitable?
A: King Charles I and Parliament quarreled because the king had been ignoring Parliaments voice for some
time. So once the king decided he needed money for his war in Scotland, but tired of the king s bullying,
Parliament refused to support Charles until he resolved many political and religious offenses. King Charles I

The Health Care Is An Expensive Industry Essay
The health care is an expensive industry, however it plays a significant role in the lives of many. As we
continues to find the best way possible to decrease avoidable medical errors and techniques that decreases
fraudulent activities, together we can build an industry that is rather effective and at a lower cost. Up coding
is a burden in health care and should be a concern to everyone. It has significant budgetary impact and affects
everyone from government officials, taxpayers, insurers, and even premiums payers. Dishonest health care
professionals who exploit Federal health care programs for illegal personal gain can result in overpayments
that raise Medicare premium and weaken Medicare s Finances. Most relies on health care profession to
submit accurate claims when requesting payment for reimbursement for Medicare covered healthcare
equipment s and services. The failure to accurately do so can have negative health ramifications for both
patients the Federal Government. Up coding has created the need for laws that can combat fraud abuse and
ensure appropriate quality medical care. The HCFA had a major responsibility that they failed to accomplish.
The investigating team from the case study noticed two major concerns, the hospitals system has significant
vulnerabilities to upcoding that can easily be avoided and also found that, despite these vulnerabilities,
Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) is not performing routine, ongoing monitoring and analysis of

Comanche Indians
COMANCHE INDIANS
The Comanches, exceptional horsemen who dominated the Southern Plains, played a prominent role in Texas
frontier history throughout much of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Anthropological evidence
indicates that they were originally a mountain tribe, a branch of the Northern Shoshones, who roamed the
Great Basin region of the western United States as crudely equipped hunters and gatherers. Both cultural and
linguistic similarities confirm the Comanches Shoshone origins. The Comanche language is derived from the
Uto Aztecan linguistic family and is virtually identical to the language of the Northern Shoshones. Sometime
during the late seventeenth century, the Comanches acquired horses, and that acquisition ... Show more

They bartered buffalo products, horses, and captives for manufactured items and foodstuffs.
SHELTER
The familiar Plains – type teepee constructed of tan buffalo hide stretched over sixteen to eighteen lodge
poles provided portable shelter for the Comanches.
CLOTHING
Their clothing, made of Bison hide or Buckskin, consisted of breechcloth, leggings, and moccasins for men,
and fringed skirt, poncho style blouse, leggings, and moccasins for women. Buffalo robes provided
protection from cold weather.
TRANSPORTATION
However, it was the horse that most clearly defined the Comanche way of life. It gave them mobility to
follow the buffalo herds and the advantage of hunting and conducting warfare from horseback. Horses also
became a measure of Comanche wealth and a valuable trade commodity. In horsemanship, the Comanches
had no equal. Children learned to ride at an early age, and both men and women developed exceptional
equestrian skills.

James A. Reed was a businessman during the weeks and a wildlife admirer on the weekends. Reed was born
in 1861 on a little farm in Richland County, Ohio. He always enjoyed the outdoors as a child and grew up

James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area is an asset to the community that should be visited by all. James A.
Reed offers stocked lakes and ponds that total up to two hundred fifty acres. In 1957 the Missouri
Department of Conservation started the construction of the water holes. There are a total of twelve lakes
which are all fishable. The biggest lake (Catclaw Lake) is just over forty two acres and located on the outer
edge of the Conservation ground. The Department dug the lakes based on the traffic of wildlife in the area.
All are stocked yearly and monitored to keep the fish population even between the lakes. Every lake has at
least largemouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, bluegill, green sunfish, redear sunfish, and bullheads. Only
four of the lakes contain striped bass hybrids. There is only a limited amount of fish one can keep so fishing
is mainly just catch and release. There are three docks provided for fishing throughout the entire acreage; the
rest of the fishing is done off shore, on the banks, or in a boat. There are two boats that can be rented out for
the day and they are offered only on Gopher Lake. There is one boat ramp for visitors but only four boats are
allowed on the lake at a time. There are so many amazing features that James A. Reed offers to the public.

Wayne Williams Evidence
When Wayne Williams was trialed for the death of two victims, DNA testing was not a reliable source in
courtrooms as evident (Polk, 2015). A conviction could have been rendered without the fiber evidence in this
case. The prosecution had a strong case in providing the evidence from the DNA of the hair obtained from
the crime scene. On February 13, 1981, when Patrick Baltazar s body was found dumped down a wooded
slope behind an office park (Polk, 2015). A forensic scientist discovered two human scalp hairs inside

Another major evidence were also dog hairs on the body of Baltazar. In 2007, the dog hair sample was sent to

was confirmed that Williams German Shepherd had the same DNA sequence. The lab reported that DNA
chain could only be found in 1 out of 100 dogs (Polk, 2015). A major factor, in this case, was multiple
jurisdictions for conviction, not the forensic evidence. It was ruled and confirmed by scientists that the hair
evidence in the Baltazar murder to be the strongest of this case (Polk, 2010). Consequently, the trial took
place in Fulton County Court, one of the largest parts of Atlanta. Baltazar s body had been found just over the

among the Fulton County charges would have raised legal issues (Polk, 2010). The lack of this critical

Remember The Titans By Director Boaz Yakin
Director Boaz Yakin created film Remember the Titans . This film was set placed in Alexandria, Virginia in

and neither race were happy about it. This film talks about how they overcome the racism and how each

Creon Tragic Hero In The Play Antigone
In the play Antigone, there were many tragic heroes. In my opinion Creon was one of those. Creon was a
tragic hero that was trying to be noble, but losing his entire family was extreme; he was set to fail from the
start. In the play Creon decreed Polyneices was not to be buried. He did this as he believed that Polyneices
was a traitor to Thebes. In his eyes this was a noble deed to do for his city that Polyneices had betrayed. If
anyone undermined him and buried Polyneices then he saw them as un noble and must be dealt with at once.
His downfall came as a result from him trying to be noble. Upholding traitors like Antigone did is not noble.

From Working Poor For Elite Scholar Essay
4 SAMPLE GRADUATE SCHOOL ESSAYS
#1. From Working Poor to Elite Scholar
One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my college degree, despite the fact that my
early adulthood pointed in the opposite direction, beginning with my marriage at the age of 19. Throughout
the 1990s I lived as one of the
working poor, someone who slipped through the cracks of supposedly historic prosperity. By the age of 25 I
was divorced and frustrated with menial, low paying jobs: clerk, receptionist, and housecleaner. There is
nothing like scrubbing someone else s toilet to inspire one with determination toward obtaining an education.
Because of my absolute commitment toward earning my degree, I got a flexible shift at a retail warehouse
which enabled me to acquire my degree while supporting myself financially.
Enrolled at the local community college, I experienced a different world opening up to me; excited by a new
encouraging environment, I excelled academically. I learned that if I tried hard, I could succeed; if I wanted
something badly enough, I possessed the ability to take advantage of these opportunities. I worked a
minimum 35 hour workweek for five years to put myself through school without succumbing to the
temptation of a student loan. I paid tuition up front with the money I earned.
It was the example of my mother, a Puerto Rican immigrant working diligently to provide for her family,
who instilled a work ethic into me that has stood me in good stead.

In Douglas Adams s novel, The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect traverse an
imperfect galaxy plagued by a lack of individuality. In The Seven Deadly Sins Today, Henry Fairlie ventures
that this galactic epidemic correlates to the transmission of immorality throughout the world. Douglas Adams
utilizes satire and characterization to demonstrate how the human condition is flawed. Furthermore, Henry
Fairlie calls upon the archetypal seven deadly sins to criticize human banality. Collectively, Adams s
wittiness and Fairlie s bitterness encourage the reader to exercise one s identity. First, Douglas Adams

sentiment: The be all and end all of life should not be to get rich, but to enrich the world (26). However,
Fairlie s plea is unheard due to the deafening materialism of modern society. It is a sad fact, but a fact
nonetheless, that those who want to enrich are less abundant than those who want to get rich. This
phenomenon occurs because wealth is more easily attainable than enrichment. Wealth requires one lucky day
at the New York Stock Exchange or the acquisition of an emerging franchise. Enrichment requires an acute
mind and patience because social change often takes generations to root in the minds of people. The solution
to both Adams and Fairlie s sinful society rests in patience. People should not try to perform a lifetime of
actions in a fraction of their lifetime. Adams then reveals the twisted prototype for the space age hero through
the character traits of Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect. Arthur was born and raised on Earth,

I. Introduction
A. An obscure but far from obsolete culture, the Polynesians come from a mysterious origin. In fact, little is
known about how they dispersed, except that their culture traveled far and wide, adapting as it touched a
series of islands ranging from Hawaii, and traveling to Easter Island.
B. Polynesian culture still thrives, with as far reaching affects as touching our diet and playing an integral
role with basic musical elements.
C. In addition to the time that we have spent extensively studying this culture, I have family living on the

A Comparison of Prince Hamlet and Machiavelli s The Prince
Machiavelli states that it is necessary for a prince, who wishes to maintain himself, to learn how not to be
good, and use this knowledge and not use it, according to the necessity of the case. Machiavelli s ideas both
compare and contrast to the methods used by Hamlet. Hamlet s desire to drive the king mad and eventually
kill him, is what he thinks he must do in order to set things right. Hamlet struggles to maintain his position as
prince. Perhaps he lacks the essential qualities of a prince outlined by Machiavelli.
According to Machiavelli, the pursuit of all things regarded as virtuous and praiseworthy will only lead to the
prince s ruin. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hamlet tells her in this quote, that his feelings are true, and that he does in fact grieve for his father. His
outward self is just like his inward self. He reveals this again later, in his first soliloquy, when he shows his
disgust for the seeming world, in which everything is weary, stale, flat and unprofitable. (Hamlet, I, ii., 133)
Hamlet must soon come to disregard his sense of morality in order to save himself, and he does, proving the
second part of Machiavelli s quote: Therefore, it is necessary for a prince, who wishes to maintain himself, to

Brazilwood was a key product for Portuguese trade. But the focus on timber would soon change. Cash crops
in the form of sugar cane production became the focus. Slavery was needed for the growing of sugar cane
and replaced the unsuccessful usage of native people for labor. Regular slave trade between Brazil and Africa
was begun in the 1550s as a temporary measure to replace the Indians decimated by war and disease, but it
lasted for over 300 years, and the institution of slavery persisted until 1889, Brazil being the last country of
the American hemisphere to abolish it. The agricultural focus of sugar cane changed to coffee bean
production in the late 19th century. As coffee began to take off, slavery was abolished. With the influx of
Africans halted, foreign immigration was promoted. This would have a profound effect on the societal make
up of the colony. Mass migrations were already occurring as the Portuguese had established their minute
South American empire. Between 1884 and 1920 three million immigrants, mainly Italian, entered the
country. Portuguese, Germans, Italians, Spanish, Britons, the descendants of African slaves and the products
of racial mixtures of Brazilian Indians, Europeans, and Africans would be the kin of those who football
would become entrenched within. Football first arrived on the shores of Brazil in 1864. British soldiers on

Understanding Organizational Performance
1.0 Introduction
The focus of this paper will be on investigating an organization, their performance management system and
our recommendations for the future. Historically performance management is defined as evaluation a firm
through metrics such as return on investment and economic value added. Our analysis will cover not only the
financial performance of our chosen firm, but also their values in behaviors as well as their objectives. Thus,
we will ascertain if the current system of performance management held by the firm is aligned with their
objectives and appropriate for their situation.

of assessment. This aids management in selecting the staff with the capacity to become high performing
contributors to organisations.
As part of the long term strategy of the corporation, discovering future leaders is of the utmost importance.
TESCO states that they will select leaders wherever they can be found in the organization for advancement.
Promotions are a regular occurrence as over 2,900 managers were promoted internally in the United

Hippies In The 1960 s
Introduction When one mentions the word, hippie most people picture dirty, drug addicts with long hair. This
perception, however, suggests negative aspects to hippies when they lead one of the largest historically
defined movements. Hippies were the upcoming generation of America in the 1960 s that reconstrued their
judgments on war and society. At a time when the Vietnam War was without recourse, hippies used peaceful
movements to show their discontent with war. Throughout the time period, hippies used tactics such as
protests, anti war marches, and music to get their views across. With all the dissatisfaction of the government

The encouragement of new music, new sexual ideals, and birth control revolutionized America. Music,
literature, the arts, and television were all transformed immensely with the rise of the movement. In
particular, rock music was altered to a great extent. Rock music faced monumental growth in sales and
continues to do so to this day.(Sayre, J. 2008, August 8) In addition, ideals of sexuality were greatly
influenced. Prior to the movement, couples felt persecuted by simply living with one another. With the hippie
movement came the free love philosophy which primarily encouraged the power of beauty and sex.(Hippie
Counter Culture 2011, March 9) Especially when looking at statistics, it s easy to see how the hippie
movement refashioned sexuality. Studies have shown that between 1965 and 1975, the number of women
who experienced premarital sexual intercourse increased dramatically. As intercourse before marriage
became accepted, it was clear that a means of contraceptive was needed to avoid unwanted children.
Therefore, another result of the hippie movement was the development of birth control and population
control advocacy. The newfound awareness of global overpopulation generated concerns about pollution,
food shortages, and quality of life. Thus, overpopulation became a prominent issue in the 1960s. Advocators
of birth control became avid due to these issues so the pill was quick to be promoted. By 1962, an estimated
1,187,000 women were using it.(Sexual Revolution n.d.) The hippie movement of the 1960 s resulted in huge

Corn-Pone Opinions Essay

English III AP 7

Corn Pone; Conformity Mark Twain, although quite the comedian, makes a valid point in Corn Pone
Opinions . The observation of humanity and its tendencies to follow what society promotes is a relevant
occurrence today. Twain leads on . . . that it s born of the human being s natural yearning to stand well with
his fellows and have their inspiring approval and praise . . . (720). Humans are not equipped to stand their
own ground; they prefer to follow the leader. Twain puts it simply, we are creatures of outside influences; as
a rule we do not think, we only imitate (719). Twain clearly makes his point noticeable to his audience,

Twain, attacking the willingness to change fashion without thinking first, speaks to women closely. Twain
states, One woman abandons the fashion; her neighbor notices this and follows her lead; this influences the
next woman; and so on and so on . . . (718). To this day women continue to experience this identical process.
Although one may love her Christmas sweater, if her neighbor does not own one or wrinkles her nose at the
idea of wearing such a thing, she will immediately go home and dispose of the sweater without thinking
twice about her actions or her personal feelings toward the item of clothing. Twain also mentions how twenty
five years ago there would be six of eight wine glasses given to each person attending a dinner party, and
they were to be used, not left idle and empty , but today there are but three of four wine glasses and on
average and only two are sparingly emptied by each guest (719). Twain follows this observation by
expanding his opinion on conformity. He offers the idea that people follow certain trends without thinking
them through. The people attending these dinner parties have no idea why they only consume two glasses
when twenty five years ago people consumed three to four times as much. Humans, in general, do not look
for the answer to the question why? , but instead only worry about what other people do and if their actions
are satisfactory to those surrounding them. Twain also gives an

Treatment Of Women In The Gospels Essay
In the beginning, women s status and freedoms were severely limited. Many people may believe that they
had started off with just as many obligations as men, but that is not the case at all. Actually, it is the complete
opposite, women had nothing when it came to the early days of the Gospel. That is until Jesus came around
and changed things. Here we will discuss three very important details of women in the Gospels. We will
discuss women in ancient Israel around the time of Jesus and how they were expected to act, then we will
move on to Jesus radical treatment of women and how Jesus was technically, in today s definition, a feminist
, finally we will discuss passages where Jesus apparently does not call for equality of the sexes. All in ...

Jesus teaching must have seemed very radical. How Jesus treated women was dramatically different from
how they were treated among the Jewish society. He consistently treated men and women as equals. Which in
today s society is the definition of a Feminist. According to Dictionary.com, Feminist means advocating
social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of men. Jesus violated many of the Old
Testament regulations, which specified gender inequality. He refused to follow the rules that were established
by the three main religious groups of the day. Those three religious groups consisted of the Essenes,
Pharisees and Sadducees. There are many examples on the Jesus radical treatment of women, one would
include how he taught women students. Jewish tradition at the time was to not allow women to be taught. In
Luke 10:38 42, he taught Mary, sister of Martha. Jesus also used terminology which treated women as equal
to men. For example, in Luke 13:16 it describes how Jesus cured a women from a Satanic Spirit. He called
her a daughter of Abraham, therefore implying that she had equal status with sons of Abraham. Another
example of Jesus use of terminology can be described in Luke 7:35 to 8:50 where it is described how Jesus

Roles Of Women In The 1800s Essay
Roles of Women in the late 1800s Around the late 1800s, the roles of women were different than todays.
Women could not participate in majority of the occupations that men are allowed too. Women could not vote,
they were unauthorized to own property, and were restricted to working. Women were only seen as stay at
home wives, and completed all the duties as a housewife. Women cooked, cleaned, and nurtured the children
while the fathers worked outside the home. The womanhood was considered to be piety and domesticity with
submissiveness and passivity. Sarah Josepha Hale, editor of Godey s Lady s book, characterized women as

Oppression in the Handmaid s Tale
Many people don t realize how much control the government has in society. They create rules and laws for
people in high hopes that everyone will be the same. The Government in America s society is more laid back
and not as strict as in the Handmaid s Tale. Because the Government has so much power to brainwash and
oppress the society to forget their past lives, the handmaids are forced to be used as a fertility label which
keeps them from gaining any authentic power over how they choose to live their lives.

Manipulation In The Last King Of Scotland
The Last King Of Scotland Politics is always an act of manipulation and there may be a dissonance between
the public persona of a leader and the ruthless actuality of their lives. Kevin Macdonald s 2006 political
biopic film The Last King of Scotland is based on political and personal events throughout the narcissistic
Adi Amin s despotic, traumatic and destructive rule of Uganda during the 1970s. It shows two different
representations of Amin: one that manipulates his public persona as someone who works for and with the
people and the other as someone ruthless who will manipulate anyone to stay in power. The film is also an
act of manipulation as we witness these events through the perspective of the politically naïve and altruistic
eyes of Nick Garrigan. The director aims to manipulate the audience to see Amin through fresh eyes as we
simultaneously witness Amin s attempts to position the people of Uganda. In the opening sequence we see

The Importance Of Mass Media Bias In The Media
1. Introduction
Having control over an entire country s population s opinion is a powerful thing to have. Possessing that
control would allow you to direct how the population spends their money or even who they like and dislike in
politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are expected to give us information that is
unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The topic I will be exploring is bias in the mainstream
news media and how it affects their viewers. This is an important topic in the field of communication because
it has such a great impact on any country that uses mass media to disseminate information. The information
can be given to the viewers with a certain twist to intentionally shape their view of an event, or it can be
unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner they are reporting on the event. I am going to research how
mass media news outlets influence the viewers opinion, and what goes into picking the news stories covered.
These are controversial topics to get into, but important to consider. They can have a very big impact on
things like elections for a political office, support or dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion of
who is the hero in a certain story. My sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased
towards one opinion, what the effects are from this, and who makes the determination of the bias that is being
displayed.

characteristics that have lead to me enjoying The Stand, so I shall evaluate them. First, I appreciate Steven
King s style of writing. The way the author writes entertains me because he describes the characters and
settings in a way that does not bore me to death. In the past, I have been forced to read classics like To Kill a

The Amateur Ethos In Late 19th Century England
The ideology of the Amateur Ethos in late 19th century England was considered among scholars as games for
games sake, personal satisfaction and not for material gain (Baker 2004). This concept was the catalyst for
segregating the amateur player from the professional tradesman, as a result of the fear of unfair competition
ultimately brought about by men who made a career out of their game (Allison 1980). This is quite different
to today s amateurism concept where the significance of intrinsic motivation has devalued due to the
increased importance of extrinsic rewards (Frey Eitzen 1991). On the other hand modern day amateurism in
sport can be associated with the maintenance of good health, preventing rates of obesity through community
involvement and school youth programs integrating non remunerated values into sporting initiatives (Pate

The circle graph, also known as a pie chart or graph, was introduced after the line graph. The example in the
book was someone keeping track and showing how they spend their day. This is a good example of how to
get the students involved. They could easily keep a schedule of their day and make a circle graph. That
sounds like a great extra credit project to me.
Other skills introduced in this book includes using tally marks to collect the data for your charts, using
number lines to introduce negative and positive numbers, and using that number line to solve problems.

Negotiation Is Important And Vital Skill Today s Modern...
Introduction: Negotiation is an important and vital skill in today s modern world. In the famous words of
John F. Kennedy, Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate (Kennedy). Our words
hold a great deal of power, and how we use them is important as well. Through negotiation, common ground
can be discovered and uncovered, making strives for a better future. Negotiation: In our set of lecture notes,
there is an entire lecture devoted to negotiation and the two kinds of negotiation distributive and integrative.
Distribute negotiation is defined as a win or lose negotiation, where sides compete over the distribution of a
fixed amount (Smith). The second sort of negotiation, integrative, is defined as a win ... Show more content

Both sides must be creative at coming up with things that are good for both of you (Smith). A website called
Entrepreneur discusses the big points to have down before approaching a negotiation. Preparation is key, and
know the party you are negotiating with. Have a strategy, and know your offer and reasoning behind it.
Lastly, go for a win win solution. Your goal should be to secure a good deal without extracting the last pound
of flesh from the other party (Sanibel). Situation: I live in an apartment with two other ladies, one of which is
very messy, rude, and immature. Truth be told she is not mature enough to be living on her own, however,
somehow she scrapes the money together each month to live here. The situation with my roommate, Mia, is
that she constantly disrespects this apartment and those who live here. She never locks the front door, she lets
dishes pile up in the sink for weeks, and she never cleans up after cooking until days later. To top it all off,
she recently has dropped out of college, so she now does not have school to concentrate on, leaving her life
to be one big party. As of late, I have been woken up multiple times in the middle of the night because of the
high noise of her get togethers at 4 in the morning. This is only one example of many; needless to say, living
with Mia is a challenge. I have done my best to overlook the issues and to stick to myself. It is becoming
absolutely unbearable living with her, and change must

THE COMPANIES THAT DROPPED TIGER WOODS
Abstract
This paper explores the truth about when a popular athlete such as Tiger Woods makes a mistake or is even
just faced with accusations of a crime these moral clauses are revisited extensively, because the end results
and affects of such a marketing campaign that includes a celebrity endorsement can be detrimental to a
company s image. This is their way of looking for any and every means to protect themselves.
Let s not downplay that current market situations indicate that celebrity endorsement advertising strategies ...

We tend to think that whether one ought to be retained in a particular job position depends on whether they
are qualified for the job, rather than whether they are a generally decent person. Suggesting that Tiger, Kobe,
Magic, or Jordan should not be allowed to pursue their profession in virtue of their personal indiscretions
would amount to a unique kind of discrimination. From the standpoint of employment qualifications, one s
sexual behavior is usually an irrelevant consideration. This brings us to the second consideration concerning
punishment in one s professional life based on actions in one s personal life. We tend to think that there is an
important separation between one s public life and one s private affairs. When one is a celebrity like Tiger
Woods, this line is blurred considerably, and one might claim that the loss of this distinction is the price one
pays for fame. However, this imposes an arbitrary constraint on a person s individual freedoms. If one has a
right to the maintenance of a public and a private sphere, the fact that a person is famous is not obviously a
reason for violating this right.
THE COMPANIES THAT DROPPED TIGER WOODS The second ethical question raised by the Tiger
Woods affair scandal concerns whether it is ethical to break a professional contract based on a person s
actions in their personal life. This is a complicated question, and I will limit the discussion to one pertinent
facet of it. If Tiger

The Myths Of Mermaids
Water calming to listen to, cooling to go in on a hot summers day, but what lies beneath the surface? The
world has many myths from mermaids to sea monsters, but could any of these be true? In 1493 Christopher
Columbus claimed he had seen a mermaid that was really a manatee or someone mistaking a giant octopus
when really . Maybe I could prove that all of this is true with a story I heard a few years ago from a
fisherman who learned about this while he lived in Norway. The story goes, in a small town in Norway called
Larvik in 1770 a young girl had the most beautiful voice. She became vain from the beauty of her voice. One
day an old woman knocked on her door. The old woman asked for some food because she had no money to
buy it with. The young

Blue Ringed Octopus Research Paper
The mating for blue ringed octopuses begins when a male meets a female and begins to caress her with arm.
The males then climb on the females back, the female is to allow this happening while the male starts this
process. The hectocotylus is inserted under the females mantle and spermatophores are let into the female s
oviduct. The female then lays between 50 100 eggs and protects them by keeping them under her tentacle
until they hatch about 50 days later into the planktonic paralarvae. The female then dies as she cannot eat
while she guards her eggs. The blue ringed octopus is about the size of a pebble when hatched then grows to
reach the size of a golf ball as an adult. They mature fast and begin looking for mates the

M7A1 Essay: Psychological Aspects of Digital Forensics
This paper will briefly identify and explain the psychological aspects of digital forensics. It will further
examine the role of psychological profiling in digital forensic investigations. Lastly, it will examine the
various stresses that digital crime investigations places on the digital forensics investigator. Digital forensics
is almost like observing someone s complete psyche, you see that person likes and dislike. You are viewing
their hates and love; you are finding things they don t want to share with anyone else in the entire world.
Using digital forensics is extremely perplexing with the obligation of interpreting the digital forensics that are
located in an investigation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Digital forensic investigators that are exposed to images of child sexual abuse as part of their work, report
they experience mental health problems that can impact both their work and home lives. (Child Pornography
s Crime Fighters Bear Scars of Traumatic Investigations, 2009). It is hard for any normal person not be
negatively affected by viewing these ghastly images. The next stressor is simple overwork by the Digital
forensic investigators. Many states and local organizations struggling with much reduced budgets, forensic
lab around the United States have been closed, this leaving existing forensic labs overwhelmed with large
backlogs of forensic evidence. Another issue is many cases are being settled with plea bargains. In the United
States, up to ninety five percent of cases resulting in felony convictions never reach a jury trial (Frontline,
2004). I for one can fully relate to this, I have had times in my IT work where even well planned upgrades
have totally failed, causing very low spirits. You just try not to think of all the wasted hours of work. With
digital forensics, it would be much worse. When a case is plea bargained, you would really feel the enormous
numbers of hours expended have been wasted. Lastly, your co workers and managers may not fully

Why I Want To Pursue A Career In The Music Industry
Even though my current job is in the field of customer service and not broadcasting or music production, it
still involves communication. I currently utilize this skill at ACE when I interact with customers and will do
the same at an audio production position when I give advice to vocalists and musicians. In the future, I can
communicate effectively when I discuss my career plans with counselors at school as well as conduct
informational interviews with those who work in the recording arts industry. I intend to achieve my career
goals by using these strategies as well. In one to two years, I see myself working in the music and
broadcasting industries as a freelancer, intern, or full time employee. In five to ten years, I imagine myself
employed at a recording studio in my hometown or San Francisco or Los Angeles, which in my opinion is the
entertainment capital of the world. Hopefully, by this time, I will have completed my Bachelor s degree and
already gained experience in my desired career industries as well as conducted countless informational
interviews. Additionally, my SoundCloud portfolio will contain over a few hundred instrumentals that I
produced. I want to take all the necessary steps towards becoming a top notch music producer. There are
several varying positions in the music industry that can seek besides a music producer. According to
CareersInMusic.com, which lists both careers in the industry, the list of jobs includes, but is not limited to,
audio engineers,

Pokemon-Go Research Papers
Living a virtual life can be great in the beginning until you abandon your true existence. In the generation we
live in now, virtual living is our morning coffee. When you walk outside nowadays, every direction you may
look, someone is on their phone. What could they be doing that is so interesting? Reading a story? Maybe,
but more than likely that is not the case. According to smartinsights.com, 80 percent of people use their
cellular device globally. That is a large number, which in no doubt will increase. Why don t the numbers
decrease? There are always going to be something or someone that will preserve your cell phone usage,
which caused virtual living to settle here. People have access to games everywhere they go in this generation.

I realized how much I was missing out on. In my opinion, video games, social media, or augmented reality,
in general, is not the route we should take. Pokemon Go does have its pros, but it should not have to take a
video game to enjoy life. I interviewed my father and close friend, my age, about their feelings and
experiences with and without technology. My father did not grow up with technology. He exclaimed how he
appreciates not having the internet because he is a brighter crayon in the box. He was not consumed in the
television but actually interacted with his peers and family. When the internet came about, he did not find a
use for it. Now in this generation, he has the newest iPhone. He knows how to use it for the most part, but he
only uses it when he needs it. He is not caught up in the virtual world. My close friend Lauren thought
otherwise. She believes without the internet, she would not have passed her classes, she would not be able to
interact with her friends when they are not together, and that she would have no social

Abstract In today s world, the small as well as big organizations are using different technology to protect
their data and to use the database as and when they need. As we know that the traditional database system are
usually deployed in closed environment where user can access the system only through a restricted network
or internet. With the fast growth of WWW, user can access virtually any database for which they have proper
access right from anywhere in the world. But this comfortness comes with certain type of risk like security
and privacy. To overcome this problem, we are introducing a new technique called as fog computing. .

The Film, Coordinated By Tom Tykwer
Perfume is a dull and sensational story of fixation murder and the mission for a genuinely extraordinary
fragrance.A mix of stunning tension and unparalleled olfactory writing, this abstract presentation was one of
the best overall blockbusters in the mid 80s. The eponymous film, coordinated by Tom Tykwer.
Perfume is the frightening story of an eighteenth century Parisian vagrant, Jean Baptiste Grenouille. Jean
Baptiste is the primary character to be seen in the film. Scent s legend is malevolent , grimy and has no
exchanges. He acted with his nose which can be appeared in the film with closeups around 27 times. In a film
the characters physical appearance, activities and surroundings of the characters give awesome insight about
the attributes of the character. One can thoroughly analyze the characters on the premise of it. Grenouille and
Baldini, the perfumers in the film have an extremely humorous characters.
Grenouille s life had been a veiled of youth injury. His identity had been incited in his prime life, particularly
amid his initial five years. He was an undesirable Parisian orphan, with no individual fragrance and with no
feeling of belongingness, absence of social cooperations with the outside world, dismissed without
appropriate direction of importance of emotions, and better comprehension of fundamental information that
every individual ought to know. His childhood was covered with lack of interest from his mates, disregard

Exile: the state of being barred from one s native country, typically for political or punitive reasons.
However, this dictionary definition fails to cover the true meaning of being exiled. Being exiled is being
forcibly removed by yourself or another from that which you identify with. Edward Said describes exile as
the unhealable rift forced between a human being and a native place, between the self and its true home (Said
137). Exile is the experience, which may be unbelievably depressing for some, while it may be enlightening
for others. In addition, exile often comes in the form of self exile the realization of this rift and determining
your own fate. Stories, such as Into the Wild, exhibit characters which feel a demand for change ... Show

Although it may have seems to his parents that life is going fantastically for the straight A student athlete at
Emory, it is actually the opposite. Chris doesn t see college as a fulfilling experience. From the very
beginning, internally, Chris seems to hate his family and most importantly his father. Chris frequently travels
out west and one time, discovers that his father has been leading a second life, which makes him seriously
question what parts of his life are actually real, ... made his entire childhood seem like a faction. But he did
not confront his parents with what he knew, then or ever. He chose instead to make a secret of his dark
knowledge and express his rage obliquely, in silence and sullen withdrawal (Krakauer 123). This withdraw
from both his family and society is ultimately what motivates Chris to go on his journey. Sadness
encapsulates his experience as a member of his family and a student at Emory and the concept of escape is
what allows him to discover his purpose not the other way around as Said claims. He decides to reject all
notions of belonging to a family; he becomes a ghost, wandering and trying to find meaning through solitude.
Eventually, near Anchorage, Chris is able to cross a river, in order to reach an abandoned bus that he would
soon call his home. It is in the

Essay on Augmented Reality and The Future of Multimedia
Introduction
What does augmented reality means? AR is the acronym for augmented reality. A rough definition of
augmented is to maximize or change to a higher extent. Augmented reality, which is a type of virtual reality,
basically means that the real world environments are duplicated in a computer. A combination of reality and
virtual scenes, created a composited view for the end user which are generated by the computer. The
computer with augmented reality system augments the real world view or scene with additional information.
The design of the virtual scene created by the computer is to improve the sensory perception of the user of
the virtual world that they are interacting with or seeing. A system in which a user cannot ... Show more

developed by L.B. Rosenberg at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory in Armstrong and demonstrated
benefits to the performance of human. In the same year, the Graphics Interface conference witnessed the first
major paper on an AR prototype, KARMA, presented by Blair MacIntyre, Doree Seligmann and Steven

With sponsorship from STRICOM, Loral WDL performed the very first demonstration that manned

  • 2. Gene Luan Born Chinese Analysis There are several themes throughout Gene Luan Yang s graphic, picture paneled novel, American Born Chinese. The thematic focus of this paper will be Yang s portrayal of the challenges faced by multicultural ethnicities searching for cultural acceptance in a white America. This novel tells of three different stories which ultimately merge and progress with one another. Initially, it appears as though there are three main characters: Monkey King, a legend who rules over Flower Mountain, Jin Wang, an Asian third grader who has moved from San Francisco to a stereotypical middle class white American suburb, and finally, Danny. Danny is an American white boy Jin has created to hide his Chinese culture to fit in better with his classmates. Eventually, the stories come together, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... American Born Chinese is a story which echoes the determination of each character trying their best to rise above the prejudices and preconceived notions of the cultural majority. It is important to examine the transparent theme of injustices forced upon minority groups trying to blend in with their peers of the majority race. The book s leading character, Jin Wang, has been thrust into a classroom where he is the only Asian boy. Immediately, on his first day of school, stereotyping commences as the teacher incorrectly introduces Jin as having moved from China. If PCP is mixed with marijuana, it is known as dust blunt, happy sticks, or dippers. If PCP is mixed with ecstasy, or also known as MDMA, then it is called elephant flipping or Pikachu. Only the history of PCP can tell us where some of these exotic names for this drug came from. PCP was originally developed as an anesthetic for human in the 1950 s and eventually made its way to become a tranquilizer in veterinarian medicine (Rudgley, 1998. Karch, 1998). Eventually in 1965, the legal use of this drug was ended due to severe side effects to the user. Despite the fact that PCP became illegal, Clandestine laboratories manufactured and sold this drug in a pill form, which gave way to one of its strange name known as the PeaCe Pill (Karch, 1998). A clandestine laboratory is an illegally run operation usually by gangs to manufacture illegal drugs. By 1978 the drug became widely popular due to these illegal laboratories and ... The correct treatment is needed for PCP users because withdrawal symptoms could be so severe that it could lead to seizures. An inpatient program is also necessary because of relapse. They both wrote plays and stories with strong protagonists who the readers don t enjoy, but, whose fate is somewhat tragic in a sense that elicits the reader s sympathy for the sense of wasted potential and tragic loss. Personally, I agree with this statement because from both authors books like Ibsen Hedda Gabler and Sophocles Oedipus The King ; the readers did not like the main characters, but the reader does sympathize. The protagonists from both plays do portray themselves as people that others don t like, but as the plays goes on; the protagonists begin to reveal themselves and their struggles. In which, the readers would sympathize. On Sophocles text Oedipus the King , Sophocles begins the play with the main character: Oedipus is this heroic person who is to find out the cause of the disease that is spreading across the city and causing so many to die. Oedipus is a person who is brave and intelligent because he was the one to solve the sphinx riddle and to kill her. On page 483, paragraph 4, Sophocles describes the backstory of how Oedipus becomes famous in the city of Thebes, ... When he reached Thebes, he found the city oppressed by a dreadful female monster, a Sphinx part human, part lion, often also depicted in Greek art with the wings of an eagle and the tail of a snake. For one variation of this study, Hyman et al. implanted the memory of an overnight hospitalization with a high fever, and possible ear infection. Some ideas in the field include looking at the response speed of the recollection of memories, and the emotion felt when recalling the memory (Reisberg). A common assumption is that the confidence with which memory is recalled could indicate its accuracy. However, there is very little association with how sure someone is about the occurrence of an event and how accurate their recollection is. We are often sure of our false memories. Smith, Ellsworth, and Kassin explain this in their study on Eyewitness Accuracy and Confidence. They note that most officials in court cases overwhelmingly believe confidence in eyewitness testimony to be positively correlated with accuracy. To disprove this, they studied about 100 undergraduate students from Stanford University. They had the students watch a car accident, participate in a filler task, and then answer questions about the car accident. They were asked to rate the confidence on their answers on a scale of 1 (no clue) to 10 (absolutely sure). The researchers then computed the correlation of accuracy and confidence and found the same conclusion as Reisberg explained: confidence can not be solid an indicator of accuracy (Smith 358). The above scores can be used to make a decision rule to classify a customer into the user or non user category based on the responses given by them in the questionnaire. The cut off score for classifying a buyer and non buyer is given by the formula C = (n2Y1+n1Y2)/ (n1+n2) From the data obtained from the survey, we have identified 50 non users and 39 users. Thus substituting n1= 52 and n2=39, Y1= 1.029 and Y2= 1.373, we get C to be 0.34357. In turn religious freedoms also encourages broader freedoms that can contribute to positive economic development. Religious freedom also helps with the development of an economy when religious groups are free to operate in a competitive environment religion can play a role in major social development of countries. From Working Poor to Elite Scholar One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my college degree, despite the fact that my early adulthood pointed in the opposite direction, beginning with my marriage at the age of 19. Throughout the 1990s I lived as one of the working poor, someone who slipped through the cracks of supposedly historic prosperity. By the age of 25 I was divorced and frustrated with menial, low paying jobs: clerk, receptionist, and housecleaner. There is nothing like scrubbing someone else s toilet to inspire one with determination toward obtaining an education. Because of my absolute commitment toward earning my degree, I got a flexible shift at a retail warehouse which enabled me to acquire my degree while supporting myself financially. Enrolled at the local community college, I experienced a different world opening up to me; excited by a new encouraging environment, I excelled academically. I learned that if I tried hard, I could succeed; if I wanted something badly enough, I possessed the ability to take advantage of these opportunities. I worked a minimum 35 hour workweek for five years to put myself through school without succumbing to the temptation of a student loan. I paid tuition up front with the money I earned. In Douglas Adams s novel, The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect traverse an imperfect galaxy plagued by a lack of individuality. In The Seven Deadly Sins Today, Henry Fairlie ventures that this galactic epidemic correlates to the transmission of immorality throughout the world. Douglas Adams utilizes satire and characterization to demonstrate how the human condition is flawed. Furthermore, Henry Fairlie calls upon the archetypal seven deadly sins to criticize human banality. Collectively, Adams s wittiness and Fairlie s bitterness encourage the reader to exercise one s identity. First, Douglas Adams satirizes modern society to delineate the blemishes that chafe the face of humankind. Next, characterization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, Adams conveys that people are too worried about their financial status and forget to enjoy life to its fullest. Money becomes a shackle and enslaves the people of planet Earth with one of the seven deadly sins: greed. The internet dictionary of Princeton University defines greed as excessive desire to acquire or possess more than one needs or deserves ( ). Henry Fairlie agrees with this definition and offers an eloquent sentiment: The be all and end all of life should not be to get rich, but to enrich the world (26). However, Fairlie s plea is unheard due to the deafening materialism of modern society. It is a sad fact, but a fact nonetheless, that those who want to enrich are less abundant than those who want to get rich. This phenomenon occurs because wealth is more easily attainable than enrichment. Wealth requires one lucky day at the New York Stock Exchange or the acquisition of an emerging franchise. Enrichment requires an acute mind and patience because social change often takes generations to root in the minds of people. The solution to both Adams and Fairlie s sinful society rests in patience. People should not try to perform a lifetime of actions in a fraction of their lifetime. Adams then reveals the twisted prototype for the space age hero through the character traits of Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect. Arthur was born and raised on Earth, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The bar graph was introduced after the picture graph. The information used in the picture graph was transferred to a bar graph to show the students the same information in a different format. The line graph was introduced at the end of third grade, but not in much detail. In this edition, the line graph is used to display a person s height from birth to 10 years of age. The circle graph, also known as a pie chart or graph, was introduced after the line graph. The example in the book was someone keeping track and showing how they spend their day. This is a good example of how to get the students involved. They could easily keep a schedule of their day and make a circle graph. That sounds like a great extra credit project to me. Other skills introduced in this book includes using tally marks to collect the data for your charts, using number lines to introduce negative and positive numbers, and using that number line to solve problems. • 40. Negotiation Is Important And Vital Skill Today s Modern... Introduction: Negotiation is an important and vital skill in today s modern world. In the famous words of John F. Kennedy, Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate (Kennedy). Our words hold a great deal of power, and how we use them is important as well. Through negotiation, common ground can be discovered and uncovered, making strives for a better future. Negotiation: In our set of lecture notes, there is an entire lecture devoted to negotiation and the two kinds of negotiation distributive and integrative. Distribute negotiation is defined as a win or lose negotiation, where sides compete over the distribution of a fixed amount (Smith). Both sides must be creative at coming up with things that are good for both of you (Smith). A website called Entrepreneur discusses the big points to have down before approaching a negotiation. Preparation is key, and know the party you are negotiating with. Have a strategy, and know your offer and reasoning behind it. Lastly, go for a win win solution. Your goal should be to secure a good deal without extracting the last pound of flesh from the other party (Sanibel). Situation: I live in an apartment with two other ladies, one of which is very messy, rude, and immature. Truth be told she is not mature enough to be living on her own, however, somehow she scrapes the money together each month to live here. The situation with my roommate, Mia, is that she constantly disrespects this apartment and those who live here. She never locks the front door, she lets dishes pile up in the sink for weeks, and she never cleans up after cooking until days later. To top it all off, she recently has dropped out of college, so she now does not have school to concentrate on, leaving her life to be one big party. As of late, I have been woken up multiple times in the middle of the night because of the high noise of her get togethers at 4 in the morning. This is only one example of many; needless to say, living with Mia is a challenge. I have done my best to overlook the issues and to stick to myself. It is becoming absolutely unbearable living with her, and change must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We tend to think that whether one ought to be retained in a particular job position depends on whether they are qualified for the job, rather than whether they are a generally decent person. Suggesting that Tiger, Kobe, Magic, or Jordan should not be allowed to pursue their profession in virtue of their personal indiscretions would amount to a unique kind of discrimination. From the standpoint of employment qualifications, one s sexual behavior is usually an irrelevant consideration. This brings us to the second consideration concerning punishment in one s professional life based on actions in one s personal life. We tend to think that there is an important separation between one s public life and one s private affairs. When one is a celebrity like Tiger Woods, this line is blurred considerably, and one might claim that the loss of this distinction is the price one pays for fame. However, this imposes an arbitrary constraint on a person s individual freedoms. If one has a right to the maintenance of a public and a private sphere, the fact that a person is famous is not obviously a reason for violating this right. THE COMPANIES THAT DROPPED TIGER WOODS The second ethical question raised by the Tiger Woods affair scandal concerns whether it is ethical to break a professional contract based on a person s actions in their personal life. This is a complicated question, and I will limit the discussion to one pertinent facet of it. If Tiger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
