What Does The Brain Carry Out Its Functions
The Oxford Dictionary defines the brain as an organ of soft nervous tissue contained in the skull of
vertebrates. This part of the body has three important features. These features help the brain carries out
its functions. The three important features are the cerebrum, the cerebellum, and the brainstem. The
cerebrum is the large part of the brain and it helps the body performs functions that involve body
movements, emotional reactions, and the senses. The cerebrum is divided into four sections. Each of
these sections allows the cerebrum to do some of its functions. The first section of the cerebrum is the
frontal lobe and its function is to regulate emotions, speech patterns, and body motions. The second
part of the cerebrum is the parietal lobe and this part is responsible for auditory and tactile
interpretation. The third area of the cerebrum is the occipital lobe and it is responsible for visual
interpretation. The fourth region of the cerebrum is the temporal lobe and it aids the body in
remembering information and comprehending the definition of terms. ... Show more content on

The cerebellum s function is to manage muscular activity. The cerebellum contains many cells and it
can be separated into three sections. Each of the cerebellum s regions executes different parts of the
cerebellum s functions. The first region is the vestibulocerebellum and it helps the body maintains its
balance and controls its visual movement. The second area of the cerebellum is the spinocerebellum
and it manages the activity of the limb and body. The third section of the cerebellum is neocerebellum
and it coordinates body movement and assesses information from the cerebral cortex and dentate

Transport Proteins on Strike Essay
Case Study: Newsflash! Transport Proteins on Strike!
1. What is the meaning behind the PHOSPHOLIPIDS chant?
Phospholipids make up most of the cell membrane, in a phospholipid bilayer. Phospholipid molecules
form two layers, with the hydrophilic (water loving) head facing the extracellular fluid and the cytosol
(intracellular) fluid, and the hydrophobic (not water loving) tails facing one another. The cell
membrane is constructed in such a way that it is semipermeable, and allows oxygen, CO2 and lipid
soluble molecules through easily, while other molecules like glucose, amino acids, water, and ions
cannot pass through quite as easily. That is the meaning behind the chant some things can pass, others
cannot! .

4. Could O2 and CO2 make the same claim as GLUCOSE and AMINO ACID? Why or why not?
No. They cross the cell membrane through simple diffusion and don t need proteins.

5. The movement of oxygen and carbon dioxide into and out of the cell is called gas exchange. Which
two body organ systems are involved in gas exchange? Which type of plasma membrane transport is
used for gas exchange? Is this method best? Explain your answer.
The two body organ systems involved in gas exchange are the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
O2 and CO2 cross the cell membrane via simple diffusion. Because cells all throughout the body
require oxygen and the removal of carbon dioxide, this simple method of diffusion is the best way to
transport such small molecules over a large area as efficiently as possible.
6. PHIL LIPID and PROFESSOR TOSOL discuss the Great Dehydration. Explain what you think
occurred during the Great Dehydration. Why are sports drinks recommended to prevent, or treat,
dehydration?
The Great Dehydration was a result of a stomach virus which apparently caused the body to lose
water. As the body lost water, water moved out of the cells in attempt to keep solute concentrations
balanced across the cell membrane. Sports drinks contain water as well as electrolytes like

Compare And Contrast Mlk And Malcolm X
I Have a Dream which was delivered in 1963 by Martin Luther King Jr. and The Ballet or the Bullet
which was delivered in 1964 by Malcolm X are two speeches with similar ideas but different
viewpoints. In this time period, African Americans did not have the same rights as whites. Malcolm X
is arguing that African Americans should have the same rights as whites to protect future generations,
and the people should do so violently. While MLK is saying the people should do the same but
peacefully. Both men, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., had similar goals, but they had different
ideas on how to accomplish them; MLK had the better ideas. One idea that was presented in both
speeches was on how African Americans should obtain their civil rights. Malcolm X argues that
African Americans should act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Malcolm X says to not disappoint your children with shame. For instance, he says If you don t take
this kind of stand, your little children will look at you and think shame (X 2). He is saying to make the
blacks equal so the African American kids do not feel ashamed of who they are. But MLK argues the
fact that children are ripped of their selfhood and dignity. For example he says, We can never be
satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self hood and robbed of their dignity by signs
stating: For whites only (King Jr. 2). He wants his audience to know that the signs are going to hurt
the children. He also wants the people not to create those signs. Malcolm X and MLK had some of the
same ideas in their speech and different ways on how to accomplish them, but in the end Martin
Luther King Jr had the most correct ideas. MLK wanted everything to be nonviolent and peaceful. He
truly cared on how to have blacks obtain their civil rights, having his audience to stand up for blacks,
and the future generations, and how the people did so in the correct and most humane

Literary Analysis Of Anne Bradstreet s The Author To Her Book
When we create something, it s always challenging to reveal it to others. No matter how big or small
our creation might seem we will still have doubts about our work. For instance, writing an essay might
seem simple to some, but the reality of putting words together to state he or she s point is a difficult
task for anyone. In addition, when finished, we tend to have a great uncertainty buried deep down in
our mind reminding either our work is great or it needs improvement. Poet, Anne Bradstreet, in her
poem, The Author of Her Book, also experiences the uncertainty and frustration that creating
something with your own hands brings. In the poem, the author describes how imperfect and
unbearable her work seems to her. In addition, the author conveys her attitude throughout the poem in
order to reveal her attachment to her work; hence, the title of the poem The Author to Her Book.
Through the use of poetic devices such as diction, imagery, and metaphors, in order to reveal
Bradstreet s attitude towards her offspring/writing. Bradstreet begins her poem by adopting scathing
diction. The author conveys her attitude through the usage of words like, ill form d and raggs.
Bradstreet uses these words in order to help convey both how critical and masterful she is about her
work. In addition, she writes, [The] offspring of my feeble brain. In this line, Bradstreet emphasizes
the notion of being unsatisfied. The author utilities the word feeble brain in order to address

The Scream Is One Of The Most Recognized Pieces Of Art
Edvard Munch s painting The Scream is one of the most recognized pieces of art throughout history.
He created this masterpiece in the year of 1893 and continued on to create three different versions of
the painting (Paulson). The image shows a deathly pale, skull shaped head man clutching his hands
over his ears, facing the audience, screaming with his mouth opened wide. There are two silhouettes
behind the screaming man on the left hand side of the bridge, while the sky is bloody and the water in
the fjord rushing. On Edvard Munch s official website, the biography mentions that Munch grew up
with is mother and older sister, his two role models, dying from tuberculosis at a young age. Leaving
him and his younger siblings with their emotionally detached father, who would torment them about
going to hell and burning, among other issues (Munch). The emotional torment Munch went through
in his early life, plagued him throughout his life and career, which resulted him creating many
different works of art with the sense of loneliness and desperation. Munch s use of contrast and
composition symbolizes the representation of man; the inner turmoil one may face throughout life.
Munch s use of a bold composition intends to show the viewers the intended form and structure of the
painting. There are three dynamic lines within the painting: the line for railing, the line for the blood
red horizon, and the line showing the flow of the fjord. All these lines are to direct the viewers eye

African Americans During The Nineteenth Century
Lynchings were a real threat to African Americans in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
They created a lot of fear in the African American community especially in this time period. Between
1882 and 1969, 4,743 people lynchings occurred. In 1882, African Americans accounted for forty six
percent of lynchings. Yet from 1900 to 1910, African Americans represented eighty nine percent of
lynchings.
Lynching was a tool used by white people in this time period to try to control black people, and Ida B.
Wells helped bring international attention to this problem and fight to end it.
Lynching occurred most frequently in the deep southern states. One reason for the lynchings was the
resentment of southern whites when the slaves were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this, the federal government took control of the southern states not yet readmitted to the Union. In
order for the states to get readmitted to the Union, they needed to agree to observe the fourteenth and
fifteenth amendments. Amendment fourteen guaranteed all citizens the same rights without regard to
color. Amendment fifteen made it illegal to discriminate against people based on race in voting rights.
African Americans and northerners held a number of government positions during this time, and
southern whites did not really accept these governments. Southern whites used legal and illegal means
to fight the changes in the status of African Americans.(Royster 7,8)
There were some means that were legal at the time which were used to keep blacks from taking
advantage of their new freedom. Laws were put in place making requirements for voting other than
race, but it was clear these requirements were intended to stop blacks from voting. This was the time
period during which lynchings increased. Groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, the Knights of the White
Camelia, the Red Shirts, and the White Line participated in lynchings and other forms of violence and
intimidation. People outside these groups also lynched African Americans for a variety of reasons such
as intimidating blacks into not using their rights or punishing them for real or alleged crimes. (Royster

strategies and resources that meet needs of difficult students. I remember thinking back then that being
fair was treating everyone the same. I was raised in different culture that children were showing

Michael Corleone Character Analysis Essay
III. Characters
A. The Godfather
Michael Corleone, the youngest son of Vito Corleone, initially doesn t want to have anything to do
with his family. He is apparently a law abiding citizen and is evidently a war veteran. He seems to be a
good natured and tries to avoid identifying with Corleone activites, yet is fiercely loyal to his family,
especially to his father. He is called by his peers as a civilian and refuses to acknowledge him as a
criminal. Wnating to live an ordinary life was his choice, until an incident where he botched an
assassination attempt on their patriarch; Vito Corleone, led to Michael trying to return the favor to
Sollozo and McClusckey. This will eventually lead him entangled with the family affairs. With the
family trying to prevent a war between other families, Michael starts to become more and more
involved. His vengeful nature, coupled with his ruthless intellect earned the respect of his followers.

supposed evil, he is seen as many as a very loving father and many people love him. He was clearly
hurt when he found out Michael gunned down Sollozo and McClusckey, indicating he loved Michael
that he didn t want his son to be part of any crime. He is able to separate blood and water, and embrace
them both, evident when he adopted and raised Tom Hagen like he was a son. He also show a deep
sense of morality, not agreeing to the dawning drug business at first, and when he did agree, he
proposed that it should never be sold to kids and near schools. Near the end of his life, he became

The Epic Of Alexander Pope s The Rape Of The Lock
Mock epic is a narrative poem which aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the
characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject. Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock is a
famous mock epic. In it, there is invocation to Muses, proposition of subject, battles, supernatural
machinery, journey on water, underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric
similes and grand style but all for a simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. The grand
treatment of a low subject produces hilarious laughter and makes the story more ridiculous.
Firstly, Paradise Lost is a long epic poem by John Milton begins with the proposition of justification
of God s way to man with nice invocation to the Muses. And another epic poem titled The Faerie
Queene by Edmund Spenser follows the same manner. The subject matters in both of the epic poems
are grand. Like the epic poems, the poem The Rape of the Lock opens with the proposition of the
subject matter and Pope s invocation to the Muses to help him compose the literary art. Such a grand
treatment of a trivial subject matter like the clipping of the lock of Belinda provokes laughter when the
poet says:
I sing this verse to Caryll, Muse! Is due:
This, ev n Belinda may vouchsafe to view: Secondly, in The Iliad , Homer describes in considerable
detail the armor and weaponry of the great Achilles, as well as the battlefield trappings of other
heroes. In the poem The Rape of the Lock Pope

Essay on Explaining Crime
Explaining Crime
A) One Biological explanation of crime is Low intelligence. Studies have tended to link between low
IQ and crime, although the link is not a simple one. Rutter and Giller (83) suggest two possible links.
Once is that low intelligence leads to educational failure and consequently low self esteem. This then
manifests as emotional; disturbances, conduct disorders and criminal behaviour. The second is that
intelligence and conduct disorders may have a common starting point which is not clear, for eg
neurophysiological. Also, more recent studies do tend to find that the average intelligence is below
average (e.g. an IQ of 92 compared to a norm of 100).
One sociological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sutherland was describing powerful social forces working on the individual and affecting skills
attitudes and beliefs.
B) In Evaluation biological explanations of crime help us to understand how genetic potential can lead
to problems such as poor achievement at school and inadequate socialization, which may in turn result
in criminality. It helps people to understand that criminals are not always fully responsible for their
behaviour is a result of internal factors. These theories are generally simplistic, taking only one factor
(biology) into account. It is very unlikely that criminal behaviour can be reduced to a biological
explanation alone. They also ignore or underestimate the social causes of crime such as antisocial role
models and an emotionally deprived childhood. In particular more recent studies do find that criminals
have a lower IQ in comparison to non criminals but this difference is only small and so could be due
to chance. Also, it should be questioned whether IQ is an accurate measure of intelligence or not.
In evaluation for the sociological explanations the theories are based on carefully conducted research
which clearly demonstrates the influence of reinforcement and observation on behaviour. These
theories can also help to explain why criminality does to an extent run in families. There is a
considerable body of

Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) are systems that are...
Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) are systems that are designed on a micro metre scale and
have become more popular as the demand for devices to get smaller has increased. The main uses of
these systems are for sensors, such as accelerometers and gyroscopes and other such devices like
microscopy and inkjet nozzles for example. There are many materials that can be used for MEMS as
the cost of the material is almost eradicated due to the micro size of the systems being produced. This
brings materials such as gold, platinum and diamond can be used, as these materials have some
properties which are very desirable for a MEM systems. The most common material that is currently
used in MEMS is silicon and silicon based compounds as they ... Show more content on

The piezoresistivity properties of diamond allow it to be used for a variety of applications at
temperatures of up to 700oC . Also diamond films can actually be used as the active sensor layer
themselves in certain situations . This has been found useful for strain gauges and accelerometers as
well as other areas. It is due to the piezoresistive gauge factor of diamond to be between 70 4000 and
remains as such even at high temperatures. Another advantage of using diamond in these situations is
that because its elastic modulus is much greater than other materials that would be used such as
Silicon or silicon based compounds the diamond films can operate at much higher frequencies.
Although it has been believed that only polycrystalline materials have these piezoresistive properties,
in recent times the same properties have been found in amorphous films of both silicon and diamond.
As devices get smaller the surface to volume ratio increase dramatically down to the micrometre scale
which means that at these levels of design the surface phenomena become more important. The forces
which create these surface phenomena such as Van der Waal s capillary and local shear forces due to
the viscosity become the main factors at a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Composites
1 CHAPTER. 1 COMPOSITES 1.1 Introduction A composite is when two or more different materials
are combined together to create a material which is superior and unique and holding different
properties than earlier. Light weight high strength materials are essential in fabrication of aerospace
structures like airframes, rocket motor casings, nozzles and wings. The composites are the materials
formed by embedding fibers in the plastic that add characteristics like high resistance to fatigue,
anticorrosive, high tensile strength or stiffness with weight savings up to 25 45% compare with
conventional metallic designs. Composites possess greater reliability, which are capable to meet the
design requirements, easier to achieve smooth aerodynamic profiles against drag reduction and high
resistance to impact damage. The capacity to tailor the fundamental material properties of a cover has
permitted new ways to deal with the plan of air flexible flight structures. The above preferences make

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Gil Dosimeters
Dosimetry systems developed in standards laboratories utilize calorimetry, ionization and chemical
methods for determining absorbed dose to water. One chemical method, the gel dosimeter, in which
substances carrying dosimetric information are suspended in a gel matrix, allows dose distributions to
be measured in three dimensions (3D), promising true 3D quality assurance measurements in
radiotherapy treatment planning. Gel dosimetry has many advantages compared to conventional
dosimetry techniques such as ion chambers, TLDs and films. This dosimeter not only records the
radiation dose distribution in 3D with good spatial resolution, but also has the ability to integrate
radiation doses from multiple directions. These advantages are particularly significant in dosimetry
situations where steep dose gradients exist, such as in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
and stereotactic radiosurgery. This 3D dosimeter is radiologically soft tissue equivalent with properties
that may be modified depending on the application. The readout techniques that have been developed

began to enroll May of 1831. They first offered engineering, then later opened medical school. In

in 1867 UA was burned to the ground by Union Troops, but that did not stop the university because it

wise Kennesaw State is clearly the better option.
Figuring out how you are going to pay for college is the second most important thing and it makes a
decision easier. I am still in high school working a full time job at Belk. I give myself a budget for
every two weeks and put the rest of my money in savings. I look up scholarships daily and am
applying for as many as I can. $50 $10,000 scholarship is better than nothing and it keeps me out of
debt at the end and that is what matters. Unfortunately, I do not have a rich family and no one will be
handing me a lot of money for college, but that just means I need to work a little harder and there is
nothing wrong with that. I will also be taking out student loans to help and my parents will be doing as
much as they can. I ask myself questions like Do I need to go to school because their football team is
amazing or Do I need to focus on the long run and Is going to Kennesaw going to get me just as good

am still going to have debt, but the real picture to look at is how much debt do I want to have when I

Essay Ambivalence and Death in Shakespeare s Hamlet
In act IV, scene III, Shakespeare addresses the play s themes and messages; those being ambivalence
and how people are one and the same in the end of life. Hamlet speaks in an eccentric riddle form but
there are underlying messages communicated through Hamlet s craziness and Claudius confusion. The
ideas are conversed through Claudius and Hamlet and convey the morals of the drama, Hamlet.
Shakespeare also takes the liberty in this section to show how diverse and opposite the characters of
Claudius and Hamlet are by differentiating their literary devices. Although Hamlet and Claudius are

 In addition to the sentence length and the content, Shakespeare shows the distinct difference
between Hamlet s quick thinking wittiness and Claudius slow uncertainty. Shakespeare dictated in the
script that Claudius was to talk with [fiery quickness] (48) during the dialogue where he is telling
Hamlet off; this section of lines is inferring that Claudius lines have been delayed and not very
powerful up to that point. In this particular scene, it is quite apparent that Claudius does not know
what to make of Hamlet s riddles. For instance, (To the attendants) Go seek him there. (41), states that
Claudius is quite slow on the uptake. Hamlet just told Claudius that Polonius body was up the stairs
into the lobby (40 41) which was up in heaven or hell, whichever the reader chose. Since Claudius
tells his servants to go find him there, it shows that he is not able to grasp Hamlet s intended meaning,
which is bi polar opposite of Hamlet s witty character. Another device Shakespeare crafted into the
script to highlight their differences was to have Hamlet speak about the Fat King and the Lean Beggar
(26). Both the adjectives and the nouns are opposites, which subliminally spotlight the differences in

Character Analysis Of Eleanor Catton s The Luminaries
In 1866, many people had dreams to make fortunes from the gold rushes around the world. The main
character in The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton follows this same dream. The story follows Walter
Moody on his adventure at a place called Hokitika with a common dream; to become a rich gold
miner. Upon his arrival, he is immediately introduced to an investigation of a mysterious crime. With
this knowledge, Moody has to follow the speculated ideas of the town members to try to piece
together and put apart the dream and the reality. Throughout the novel, Moody becomes more trusting
and gets an ambition to help the people. Walter Moody advances in the community of Hokitika
through accepting the reality making him more trusting and ambitious with his goals of helping the
town while letting go of the dream he previously held.
During the beginning of the novel, Walter Moody has a dream to make a fortune through digging gold
out of the mines in the town Hokitika. Upon his arrival he finds himself in the middle of a group of
people trying to piece together the incident that had occurred on the night of the 14th of January.
Moody does not trust this room of people. This is seen as he holds simple information from them, like
he did with a man named Balfour who was trying to find out what issues he was facing. He would
hide information constantly by saying things like The particulars are delicate (Catton 24). Moody, who
is still skeptical of the people, keeps to himself throughout

Frankenstein Ignorance Is Bliss Quotes
Ignorance Is Bliss Knowledge, a characteristic all people seek and one that provides more power than
any army could provide, can be rewarding and enlightening; however, it can be disastrous as well. In
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the main character Victor Frankenstein learns how knowledge can lead
to dangerous inventions. Victor creates a creature assembled from scavenged human parts; however,
upon seeing how hideous its appearance is, he flees which leaves the monster shunned by the rest of
society. The creature, tortured by solitude, begins to kill Victor s friends and family after Victor
refuses to create a companion for him and the two end up dying lonely. Knowledge can be a powerful

Victor is foolish, as he dedicated half of his life working to create the being, and the second half trying
to destroy it. The creature causes Victor s death, although it was not by the creature s own hands. The
creature drives him to desperation, and it is the creature s fault that he has nothing and no one to live
for in the world. Near the end of his life, Victor gives Walton some final words of advice saying, Seek
happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition, even if it be only the apparently innocent one of
distinguishing yourself in science and discoveries (162). Victor realizes his life has been ruined
because of his scientific ambition, and he also acknowledges that the sins of his past will continue to
haunt him. In the end, the creature causes Victor s death just as the creature killed his family and
friends; therefore, Victor neglects his health and travels to harsh environments to catch the monster
ending in his own demise. It is knowledge that causes Victor to gain dangerous ambition, the ambition
that causes him to undertake the immoral and laborious task of creating life. The creature ends up
ruining Victor s life, and he has only the knowledge he pursued to blame for that. Victor used his
enormous range of knowledge for this shady invention; however, he could have used it to benefit
mankind. Knowledge causes Victor to become ambitious, and it is this ambition that leads to his
solitude, sadness, and eventual death. Knowledge can be beneficial; however, it can also be

Marijuana Use and Sexual Health How Lighting Up Keeps a Man Down Mr. John Dugan By Mr. John

appropriate care of the penis is needed in order to ensure that it can function properly. Good nutrition
is the first step; like the rest of the body, the penile tissue requires the right blend of nutrients to
reproduce itself, repair itself after damage, and maintain its metabolic functions. As the body works to
deal with the chemicals that are introduced by marijuana smoking, many of these nutrients may be
diverted from the penis, reducing its ability to function normally. In addition, smoking any substance
tends to have a dehydrating effect, and the loss of moisture can lead to a dry, less responsive penis.
Men can counter these effects by adding a penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man 1
Man Oil) to their daily routine. A creme that is enriched with natural emollients and essential vitamins
and antioxidants can add an extra edge to the body s ability to restore and repair the penile tissue,
leaving the penis responsive and ready for

What is the definition of rock and roll? According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Rock and roll is
a form of popular music that emerged in the United States in the late Forties and early Fifties (Rock

own version of rock and roll. Music in itself cannot be given any definition based on the variety and
rock and roll is just one variety. Different generations have different stand points. From the beginning

Music helped play a part in what people were wearing and also how they started acting. People also

In Romania when abortion was declared illegal the crime rate increased dramatically and that was
because mothers who did not want to have the child were forced to. Because of that, these mothers
typically resent their child and do not take care/care near as much about what their child does or who
their child becomes. Children who are not nurtured, cared for, or raised in a good home tend to more
likely end up as criminals due to their mistreatment and unstable household. Those children who were
not aborted were very likely to have lived in poverty or grown up with only one parent (typically a
teen mom); these two factors are usually the profile and cause of criminals. Years later after Roe v.

activities and what the parents would do for and with their children (Do they spank them? Did the
parents take them to the museum frequently? Do their children watch a lot of television?). If all the

They would find gas station with a cheaper price. If the station lowered the amount of gasoline by
10% or 15%, there would be a line wrapped around the corner of that gas station. People would go out
of their way to buy cheap gas.
Total receipts and total revenue are determined by multiplying the price of the gas by the quantity
sold. If the demand for a product is elastic, the amount consumer s buy will go up and the price will be
lowered, but if inelastic, a lower price would mean a small increase in the quantity demanded. It
would not be enough if sales increased.
Substitutes and Compliments
Gas cannot be substituted. For food, which is a good, can be substituted. If the price of fish and butter
go up, buyers can switch to chicken and margarine. Small changes in the price of a product will cause
people to switch from one product to the other. When quantity like this sells in a particular store or
small store, the quantity changes drastically by the impact of store receipts, which tends to make the
demand elastic. The more changes in substitutes the more elastic it becomes, the less substitutes for
that particular product, the more inelastic the demand becomes.

Essay On The Teaching Of Society In Lord Of The Flies
The Teaching of Society: Lord of the Flies
In the past three years, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been an unstoppable force in the Eastern
Conference of the NBA. Led by arguably the best player ever, LeBron James, they have made three
straight finals appearances, winning the Cavs first NBA titles in 2016 on a game sealing three by point
guard Kyrie Irving. LeBron himself has been to seven straight NBA Finals so one could say he knows
the game well and is to be considered a teacher of the game to his younger teammates such as Irving.
Recently, Irving has decided to step away from the Cavaliers organization to join the Boston Celtics
because he no longer wanted to be in the so called shadow of James. Multiple sources have spoken on
Lebron s basketball IQ calling it part of the reason he is the best player right now. Now that Kyrie has
joined the Celtics he is leading his team based off things Lebron has already taught him, but only time
will tell how the season will go and if Kyrie can survive. In the novel Lord of the Flies, a group of
British boys become stranded on an island and have to use what they know about civilization already
and how to behave to try and survive on this island. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses the
symbol of face paint to show that someone who is civilized has disguised human nature by adapting to
society s etiquette. He also uses symbolic scenes such as when Roger is throwing rocks at Henry.

The Inspirational System Of The Respiratory System In The...
Research and Report: Module 1
The respiratory system is a very important organ system in the human body. Its purpose is to transport
oxygen to the blood where it can then move through the bloodstream to oxygenate all parts of the
human body. The organs in the respiratory system consist of the nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea,
bronchi, and lungs. Each organ plays an important role in respiration. The nasal cavity is the organ
through which oxygen enters the body. This is the most superiorly and superficially located of the
respiratory organs. Located posterior to the nose, the nasal cavity is a hollow space inside the skull
that is lined with hairs and mucus membranes that help filter environmental contaminates, such as
pollen and dust, out of the air before it moves to the next organ, the pharynx. The pharynx is located
inferiorly to the nasal cavity. The pharynx is a muscular, tube shaped organ that allows air to travel
through both the nasal cavity and the mouth into the superior portion of the larynx. As the air makes
its way to the next organ it must pass through the epiglottis, which is a cartilage flap that protects from
accidental inhalation of food and liquids. The next organ is the larynx which is located inferiorly to the
pharynx. This is a short tube shaped organ that is primarily constructed of cartilage. The larynx houses
the vocal folds which are mucus membranes that vibrate at variable speeds while air is passing
through to produce vocal sounds.

Symbolism In The Conqueror Worm
The Conqueror Worm by Edgar Allan Poe is a poem embedded with deep symbolism. Death is a
common thing among Edgar Allen Poe s poems and the conqueror worm is definitely not an
exception. The very theme in the story is that we are like puppets in the play of life, putting on a show
for a higher deity. Edgar Allan Poe did a good job weaving the theme in with tons of symbolism,
however the idea that death conquers all is easily found if you look close enough. First indication of
the theme is in line 12 where it clearly states that Mere Puppets they who come and go at the bidding

The Battle On Pork Chop Hill
In many war stories officers are depicted as the, heroes of the battle based off of what was credited in
history. Some supported the war efforts exhausted in order to contain communism and others felt like
we were fighting an unjust war. The views of the Battle on Pork Chop Hill are no different. US forces
originally occupied a location originally known as Hill 355 in October of 1951. The tactics used to
capture and fight for this location were brutal, and exhausting for both sides. Various Infantry and
Artillery units fought to capture and defend this hill. Using Artillery during this war was key for U.S.
forces to capture and control Pork Chop Hill. Even though some would say it was a long drawn out
war, it shows the importance of artillery during battle because it provides soldiers basic leadership
skills, strengthens future generations of soldiers, and their basic military heritage and tactics. The
Battle on Pork Chop Hill is a significant event in the war because it lasted longer than any other single
battle during the Korean War. The Field Artillery was important to these battles and so were the effects
it had on these events. Many lives were lost as a result of fighting for this hill including Soldiers from
the NATO coalition forces, United States, North Korea, and China. Both sides had constructed such
great defensive tactics that if they tried to advance, it would result in loss of more men. Like many

The basis of tissue engineering involves the production of stem cell, progenitor or precursor cells from
embryonic or adult origin, which will induce the regeneration of tissues and organs. The following
step is to create biocompatible matrices or scaffolds for the conduction of the signal. These matrices or
scaffolds must be able to sustain cell proliferation and differentiation as well as the vascular ingrowth
and the unification the new tissue with the surrounding host tissue. Additionally, they must have the
capacity to adequately degrade concurrent with tissue regeneration. Then, the induction of growth
factors or signalling proteins will activate the proliferation and differentiation of the stem cells. Finally
the mechanical stimulation by biochemical forces like shear or strain. Scaffolds can be made in
different types of materials like bioceramics, membrane, fibres, foams hydrogels...
Another approach of regenerative medicine is the possibility to grow tissues and organs in the
laboratory directly from the patient s cells and implanting them in case the body cannot heal itself;
thus, avoiding problems of organs available for donation and transplant rejection. The term
regeneration is therefore used to describe the process of replacing the loss of specialized tissue by
proliferating undamaged specialized cells. The finality of this medicine is to imitate nature s capacity

Computer Programmer Pierre Omidyar Established Ebay Inc.
In 1995 computer programmer Pierre Omidyar established eBay Inc. (eBay) from his living room in
San Jose, California. He created a simple prototype of an auction site on his personal website and
called it Auction Web, then let people list items for auction. He was amazed at the number of buyers
and sellers that his site attracted and he soon had to set up a separate site devoted to auctions. By
charging sellers for posting their auction items, and taking a small percentage of each sale, the
company made money simply by supplying a place for buyers and sellers to meet. Business grew
through word of mouth. A Feedback Forum was added to allow buyers and sellers a way to rate each
other for honesty and reliability. Branching out from collectibles, the site quickly expanded into a vast
range of items, including electronics, home furnishings and appliances, and cars and other vehicles. In
1996, Omidyar hired Jeff Skoll as his first employee and the company s first president. Skoll is
credited with writing a business plan that took eBay from a start up to a sensational success. In 1996,

Behavioral Matrix And Classroom Behavior
Part 1: Behavioral Matrix
A behavioral matrix creates the expectations for student behavior in the classroom and school campus.
A school wide behavioral matrix lists the school wide expectations for various times, location and
transitions. Classroom teacher specific to that classroom creates a classroom behavioral matrix. Both
school wide behavioral matrix and classroom matrix should contain the rules that are listed in the
school wide expectations. These rules and expectations are displayed as a matrix, which is posted in
classrooms, gym, cafeteria, hallway, and bus. According to Knoff (2007), behavioral matrix sets the
behavioral expectations expectation within specific settings and contexts for students and hold them
accountable. Table 1 reflects dangerous behavioral problems categorized in the Level IV as explained
in the 2015 16 Fort Wayne Community Schools Code of Conduct. Part 3 integrates all the results of
fourth grade teachers who were asked to choose student behaviors and corrective action from the
given list by the intensity levels. As a result, table 3 can be used as a behavioral matrix among the
fourth grade teachers to replace negative behaviors with positive behaviors.

Mayan Cycles Of Creation
Maya
The ancient Maya believed in recurring cycles of creation and destruction because, The largest cycles
were thought to be recurrent cycle of creation and destruction, and the Maya believed that each of the
named says within their cycles contained a destiny which was relieved in each of the many eras of a
cyclic universe. The Maya believed in many gods. They believed their gods could help or hurt them.
They worshiped their gods every day. Religion was at the heart of everything they did. Human
sacrifice was performed on prisoners, slaves, and particularly children, with orphans. Before the
Toltec era, however, animal sacrifice may have been far more common than human turkeys, dogs, and
squirrels being among the species considered suitable offerings to Mayan gods.
The Maya believed that when people died, they entered the Underworld through a cave. When kings
died, they followed the path linked to the cosmic movement of the sun and fell into the Underworld,
but because they possessed supernatural powers, they were reborn into the Sky World and became
gods. Some Maya still believe that their village is the ceremonial centre of a world supported at its
four corners by gods. When one of these gods shifts his burden, they believe, it causes an earthquake.
The sky above them is the domain of the Sun, the Moon and the stars; however, the Sun is clearly
associated with God the Father or Jesus Christ. The Moon is associated with the Virgin Mary.
There is also a supernatural belief in the spirits of the forest. Some villages today have four pairs of
crosses and four jaguar spirits at the village s four entrances, in order to keep evil away. It is still
believed that evil winds loose in the world cause disease and sickness.
In Maya cities, ceremonial buildings were precisely aligned with compass directions. The Sun might
be made to cast its rays through small openings in a Maya observatory, lighting up the observatory s
interior walls.
Maya calendars, mythology and astrology were integrated into a single system of belief. The Maya
observed the sky and calendars to predict solar and lunar eclipses, the cycles of the planet Venus, and
the movements of the constellations(a group of stars forming a recognizable pattern

Women s Rights And Feminist Movements
Although often iconized as a time of industrial and political revolution the 20th Century provided an
equally important platform for social revolution. During this era countless social movements emerged,
notably so the women s rights and feminist movements. Tremendous gains were made for women
throughout the century s span, from suffrage, to equal pay, and the availability of contraceptives. One
of the most complex feminist movements of the 20th century followed the period s most tumultuous
event: World War II. While under occupation by the United States the Japanese feminist movement
flourished and the lives of Japanese women changed dramatically. The feminism of this period, from
the end of the war to the end of occupation, has been studied by numerous historians and is mentioned
in most literature concerning occupation. The leading scholars of occupation feminism have
approached and presented the topic in three distinctly different ways: several focus on cultural
changes, others emphasize the movement s deep historical roots, and some criticize the period as
flawed feminism. The loss of World War II was a catalyst for cultural change within Japan.
Occupation and the subsequent influx of American ideals and culture influenced the changes that
occurred in Japanese women s lives. John Dower, a retired MIT professor of Japanese history, reflects
on these cultural changes in his work Embracing Defeat: Japan in the Wake of World War II .
Throughout his book in chapters such

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Alendronate
Bone transplants are the most performed tissue transplantations in the world. The problem with recent
bone tissue transplants is that they have too many limitations. For instance, the recent techniques for
bone tissue transplants have a high failure rate, which can lead up to 50% in numerous locations of the
human body. Because of these limitations, biomaterials which can replace the bone tissue have been
developed. [Graham G. Walmsley et al. July 2015]
When someone has bone deficits, the person has a lack of bone cells, which means that the bone
recovery does not work properly. For instance, after a traumatic injury or bone fractures.
Nanoparticles have the ability to let the bone heal more easily after fractures and traumatic injuries. ...

Such as, alendronate, a bisphosphonate, which is commonly used to treat osteoporosis. The
disadvantage of alendronate is that high doses are recommended to have a clinical effect. Eventually,
this will have a toxic effect on the entire system of the human body. To solve this problem, a local
method for loading alendronate onto poly(lactide co glycolide) (PLGA) is favored. In addition, in vivo
research studies have confessed that PLGA nanoparticles coated with bone morphogenetic protein 2
(BMP 2) are suitable to increase the reconstruction of the bone during a calvarial defect. [Graham G.
Walmsley et al. July 2015]
Second, nanosilicates, which are incorporated into a matrix of gelatin, can interact with polymeric
chains. This will have a positive effect on certain physical, chemical and biological characteristics.
[Janet R. Xavier et al. February 2015]
Nanosilicates have their unique surface charge and shape. This encourages very strong interactions
with the gelatin collagen based matrix. Eventually, it will form structures which it can assembly itself.
These structures can form and break dynamically which results in shear tinning characteristics. [Janet

  • 2. What Does The Brain Carry Out Its Functions The Oxford Dictionary defines the brain as an organ of soft nervous tissue contained in the skull of vertebrates. This part of the body has three important features. These features help the brain carries out its functions. The three important features are the cerebrum, the cerebellum, and the brainstem. The cerebrum is the large part of the brain and it helps the body performs functions that involve body movements, emotional reactions, and the senses. The cerebrum is divided into four sections. Each of these sections allows the cerebrum to do some of its functions. The first section of the cerebrum is the frontal lobe and its function is to regulate emotions, speech patterns, and body motions. The second part of the cerebrum is the parietal lobe and this part is responsible for auditory and tactile interpretation. The third area of the cerebrum is the occipital lobe and it is responsible for visual interpretation. The fourth region of the cerebrum is the temporal lobe and it aids the body in remembering information and comprehending the definition of terms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Transport Proteins on Strike Essay Case Study: Newsflash! Transport Proteins on Strike! 1. What is the meaning behind the PHOSPHOLIPIDS chant? Phospholipids make up most of the cell membrane, in a phospholipid bilayer. Phospholipid molecules form two layers, with the hydrophilic (water loving) head facing the extracellular fluid and the cytosol (intracellular) fluid, and the hydrophobic (not water loving) tails facing one another. The cell membrane is constructed in such a way that it is semipermeable, and allows oxygen, CO2 and lipid soluble molecules through easily, while other molecules like glucose, amino acids, water, and ions cannot pass through quite as easily. That is the meaning behind the chant some things can pass, others cannot! . 2. Why is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 4. Could O2 and CO2 make the same claim as GLUCOSE and AMINO ACID? Why or why not? No. They cross the cell membrane through simple diffusion and don t need proteins. Mary Amico Physiology 141 Section 002 Case Study: Newsflash! Transport Proteins on Strike! 5. The movement of oxygen and carbon dioxide into and out of the cell is called gas exchange. Which two body organ systems are involved in gas exchange? Which type of plasma membrane transport is used for gas exchange? Is this method best? Explain your answer. The two body organ systems involved in gas exchange are the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. O2 and CO2 cross the cell membrane via simple diffusion. Because cells all throughout the body require oxygen and the removal of carbon dioxide, this simple method of diffusion is the best way to transport such small molecules over a large area as efficiently as possible. 6. PHIL LIPID and PROFESSOR TOSOL discuss the Great Dehydration. Explain what you think occurred during the Great Dehydration. Why are sports drinks recommended to prevent, or treat, dehydration? The Great Dehydration was a result of a stomach virus which apparently caused the body to lose water. As the body lost water, water moved out of the cells in attempt to keep solute concentrations balanced across the cell membrane. Sports drinks contain water as well as electrolytes like ... Malcolm X is arguing that African Americans should have the same rights as whites to protect future generations, and the people should do so violently. While MLK is saying the people should do the same but peacefully. For example he says, We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self hood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating: For whites only (King Jr. 2). He wants his audience to know that the signs are going to hurt the children. He also wants the people not to create those signs. • 5. Literary Analysis Of Anne Bradstreet s The Author To Her Book When we create something, it s always challenging to reveal it to others. No matter how big or small our creation might seem we will still have doubts about our work. For instance, writing an essay might seem simple to some, but the reality of putting words together to state he or she s point is a difficult task for anyone. In addition, when finished, we tend to have a great uncertainty buried deep down in our mind reminding either our work is great or it needs improvement. Poet, Anne Bradstreet, in her poem, The Author of Her Book, also experiences the uncertainty and frustration that creating something with your own hands brings. In the poem, the author describes how imperfect and unbearable her work seems to her. In addition, the author conveys her attitude throughout the poem in order to reveal her attachment to her work; hence, the title of the poem The Author to Her Book. Through the use of poetic devices such as diction, imagery, and metaphors, in order to reveal Bradstreet s attitude towards her offspring/writing. Bradstreet begins her poem by adopting scathing diction. The author conveys her attitude through the usage of words like, ill form d and raggs. Bradstreet uses these words in order to help convey both how critical and masterful she is about her work. In addition, she writes, [The] offspring of my feeble brain. He created this masterpiece in the year of 1893 and continued on to create three different versions of the painting (Paulson). The image shows a deathly pale, skull shaped head man clutching his hands over his ears, facing the audience, screaming with his mouth opened wide. There are two silhouettes behind the screaming man on the left hand side of the bridge, while the sky is bloody and the water in the fjord rushing. On Edvard Munch s official website, the biography mentions that Munch grew up with is mother and older sister, his two role models, dying from tuberculosis at a young age. Leaving him and his younger siblings with their emotionally detached father, who would torment them about going to hell and burning, among other issues (Munch). The emotional torment Munch went through in his early life, plagued him throughout his life and career, which resulted him creating many different works of art with the sense of loneliness and desperation. Munch s use of contrast and composition symbolizes the representation of man; the inner turmoil one may face throughout life. Munch s use of a bold composition intends to show the viewers the intended form and structure of the painting. African Americans and northerners held a number of government positions during this time, and southern whites did not really accept these governments. Southern whites used legal and illegal means to fight the changes in the status of African Americans.(Royster 7,8) There were some means that were legal at the time which were used to keep blacks from taking advantage of their new freedom. Laws were put in place making requirements for voting other than race, but it was clear these requirements were intended to stop blacks from voting. This was the time period during which lynchings increased. Groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, the Knights of the White Camelia, the Red Shirts, and the White Line participated in lynchings and other forms of violence and intimidation. The Epic Of Alexander Pope s The Rape Of The Lock Mock epic is a narrative poem which aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject. Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock is a famous mock epic. In it, there is invocation to Muses, proposition of subject, battles, supernatural machinery, journey on water, underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric similes and grand style but all for a simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. The grand treatment of a low subject produces hilarious laughter and makes the story more ridiculous. Firstly, Paradise Lost is a long epic poem by John Milton begins with the proposition of justification of God s way to man with nice invocation to the Muses. And another epic poem titled The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser follows the same manner. The subject matters in both of the epic poems are grand. Like the epic poems, the poem The Rape of the Lock opens with the proposition of the subject matter and Pope s invocation to the Muses to help him compose the literary art. Such a grand treatment of a trivial subject matter like the clipping of the lock of Belinda provokes laughter when the poet says: I sing this verse to Caryll, Muse! Studies have tended to link between low IQ and crime, although the link is not a simple one. Rutter and Giller (83) suggest two possible links. Once is that low intelligence leads to educational failure and consequently low self esteem. This then manifests as emotional; disturbances, conduct disorders and criminal behaviour. The second is that intelligence and conduct disorders may have a common starting point which is not clear, for eg neurophysiological. Also, more recent studies do tend to find that the average intelligence is below average (e.g. an IQ of 92 compared to a norm of 100). One sociological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sutherland was describing powerful social forces working on the individual and affecting skills attitudes and beliefs. B) In Evaluation biological explanations of crime help us to understand how genetic potential can lead to problems such as poor achievement at school and inadequate socialization, which may in turn result in criminality. It helps people to understand that criminals are not always fully responsible for their behaviour is a result of internal factors. These theories are generally simplistic, taking only one factor (biology) into account. It is very unlikely that criminal behaviour can be reduced to a biological explanation alone. They also ignore or underestimate the social causes of crime such as antisocial role models and an emotionally deprived childhood. In particular more recent studies do find that criminals have a lower IQ in comparison to non criminals but this difference is only small and so could be due to chance. Also, it should be questioned whether IQ is an accurate measure of intelligence or not. In evaluation for the sociological explanations the theories are based on carefully conducted research which clearly demonstrates the influence of reinforcement and observation on behaviour. These theories can also help to explain why criminality does to an extent run in families. There is a considerable body of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) are systems that are designed on a micro metre scale and have become more popular as the demand for devices to get smaller has increased. The main uses of these systems are for sensors, such as accelerometers and gyroscopes and other such devices like microscopy and inkjet nozzles for example. There are many materials that can be used for MEMS as the cost of the material is almost eradicated due to the micro size of the systems being produced. This brings materials such as gold, platinum and diamond can be used, as these materials have some properties which are very desirable for a MEM systems. The most common material that is currently used in MEMS is silicon and silicon based compounds as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The piezoresistivity properties of diamond allow it to be used for a variety of applications at temperatures of up to 700oC . Also diamond films can actually be used as the active sensor layer themselves in certain situations . This has been found useful for strain gauges and accelerometers as well as other areas. It is due to the piezoresistive gauge factor of diamond to be between 70 4000 and remains as such even at high temperatures. Another advantage of using diamond in these situations is that because its elastic modulus is much greater than other materials that would be used such as Silicon or silicon based compounds the diamond films can operate at much higher frequencies. Although it has been believed that only polycrystalline materials have these piezoresistive properties, in recent times the same properties have been found in amorphous films of both silicon and diamond. As devices get smaller the surface to volume ratio increase dramatically down to the micrometre scale which means that at these levels of design the surface phenomena become more important. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Composites 1 CHAPTER. 1 COMPOSITES 1.1 Introduction A composite is when two or more different materials are combined together to create a material which is superior and unique and holding different properties than earlier. Light weight high strength materials are essential in fabrication of aerospace structures like airframes, rocket motor casings, nozzles and wings. The composites are the materials formed by embedding fibers in the plastic that add characteristics like high resistance to fatigue, anticorrosive, high tensile strength or stiffness with weight savings up to 25 45% compare with conventional metallic designs. Composites possess greater reliability, which are capable to meet the design requirements, easier to achieve smooth aerodynamic profiles against drag reduction and high resistance to impact damage. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Gil Dosimeters Dosimetry systems developed in standards laboratories utilize calorimetry, ionization and chemical methods for determining absorbed dose to water. One chemical method, the gel dosimeter, in which substances carrying dosimetric information are suspended in a gel matrix, allows dose distributions to be measured in three dimensions (3D), promising true 3D quality assurance measurements in radiotherapy treatment planning. Gel dosimetry has many advantages compared to conventional dosimetry techniques such as ion chambers, TLDs and films. This dosimeter not only records the radiation dose distribution in 3D with good spatial resolution, but also has the ability to integrate radiation doses from multiple directions. These advantages are particularly significant in dosimetry situations where steep dose gradients exist, such as in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery. Shakespeare dictated in the script that Claudius was to talk with [fiery quickness] (48) during the dialogue where he is telling Hamlet off; this section of lines is inferring that Claudius lines have been delayed and not very powerful up to that point. In this particular scene, it is quite apparent that Claudius does not know what to make of Hamlet s riddles. For instance, (To the attendants) Go seek him there. Hamlet just told Claudius that Polonius body was up the stairs into the lobby (40 41) which was up in heaven or hell, whichever the reader chose. Since Claudius tells his servants to go find him there, it shows that he is not able to grasp Hamlet s intended meaning, which is bi polar opposite of Hamlet s witty character. Whether men use recreational substances or not, appropriate care of the penis is needed in order to ensure that it can function properly. As the body works to deal with the chemicals that are introduced by marijuana smoking, many of these nutrients may be diverted from the penis, reducing its ability to function normally. In addition, smoking any substance tends to have a dehydrating effect, and the loss of moisture can lead to a dry, less responsive penis. Men can counter these effects by adding a penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil) to their daily routine. Its purpose is to transport oxygen to the blood where it can then move through the bloodstream to oxygenate all parts of the human body. The organs in the respiratory system consist of the nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. Each organ plays an important role in respiration. The nasal cavity is the organ through which oxygen enters the body. This is the most superiorly and superficially located of the respiratory organs. Located posterior to the nose, the nasal cavity is a hollow space inside the skull that is lined with hairs and mucus membranes that help filter environmental contaminates, such as pollen and dust, out of the air before it moves to the next organ, the pharynx. The pharynx is a muscular, tube shaped organ that allows air to travel through both the nasal cavity and the mouth into the superior portion of the larynx. As the air makes its way to the next organ it must pass through the epiglottis, which is a cartilage flap that protects from accidental inhalation of food and liquids. A school wide behavioral matrix lists the school wide expectations for various times, location and transitions. Classroom teacher specific to that classroom creates a classroom behavioral matrix. Both school wide behavioral matrix and classroom matrix should contain the rules that are listed in the school wide expectations. These rules and expectations are displayed as a matrix, which is posted in classrooms, gym, cafeteria, hallway, and bus. According to Knoff (2007), behavioral matrix sets the behavioral expectations expectation within specific settings and contexts for students and hold them accountable. Table 1 reflects dangerous behavioral problems categorized in the Level IV as explained in the 2015 16 Fort Wayne Community Schools Code of Conduct. Part 3 integrates all the results of fourth grade teachers who were asked to choose student behaviors and corrective action from the given list by the intensity levels. The Maya believed in many gods. They believed their gods could help or hurt them. They worshiped their gods every day. Religion was at the heart of everything they did. Human sacrifice was performed on prisoners, slaves, and particularly children, with orphans. Before the Toltec era, however, animal sacrifice may have been far more common than human turkeys, dogs, and squirrels being among the species considered suitable offerings to Mayan gods. The Maya believed that when people died, they entered the Underworld through a cave. When kings died, they followed the path linked to the cosmic movement of the sun and fell into the Underworld, but because they possessed supernatural powers, they were reborn into the Sky World and became gods. Some Maya still believe that their village is the ceremonial centre of a world supported at its four corners by gods. When one of these gods shifts his burden, they believe, it causes an earthquake. The sky above them is the domain of the Sun, the Moon and the stars; however, the Sun is clearly associated with God the Father or Jesus Christ. The Moon is associated with the Virgin Mary. There is also a supernatural belief in the spirits of the forest. Some villages today have four pairs of crosses and four jaguar spirits at the village s four entrances, in order to keep evil away. It is still believed that evil winds loose in the world cause disease and sickness. In Maya cities, ceremonial buildings were precisely aligned with compass directions. The Sun might be made to cast its rays through small openings in a Maya observatory, lighting up the observatory s interior walls. Maya calendars, mythology and astrology were integrated into a single system of belief. The Maya observed the sky and calendars to predict solar and lunar eclipses, the cycles of the planet Venus, and the movements of the constellations(a group of stars forming a recognizable pattern ... • 45. Women s Rights And Feminist Movements Although often iconized as a time of industrial and political revolution the 20th Century provided an equally important platform for social revolution. During this era countless social movements emerged, notably so the women s rights and feminist movements. Tremendous gains were made for women throughout the century s span, from suffrage, to equal pay, and the availability of contraceptives. One of the most complex feminist movements of the 20th century followed the period s most tumultuous event: World War II. While under occupation by the United States the Japanese feminist movement flourished and the lives of Japanese women changed dramatically. The feminism of this period, from the end of the war to the end of occupation, has been studied by numerous historians and is mentioned in most literature concerning occupation. The leading scholars of occupation feminism have approached and presented the topic in three distinctly different ways: several focus on cultural changes, others emphasize the movement s deep historical roots, and some criticize the period as flawed feminism. The loss of World War II was a catalyst for cultural change within Japan. Occupation and the subsequent influx of American ideals and culture influenced the changes that occurred in Japanese women s lives. John Dower, a retired MIT professor of Japanese history, reflects on these cultural changes in his work Embracing Defeat: Japan in the Wake of World War II . Throughout his book in chapters such ... • 47. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Alendronate Bone transplants are the most performed tissue transplantations in the world. The problem with recent bone tissue transplants is that they have too many limitations. For instance, the recent techniques for bone tissue transplants have a high failure rate, which can lead up to 50% in numerous locations of the human body. Because of these limitations, biomaterials which can replace the bone tissue have been developed. [Graham G. Walmsley et al. July 2015] When someone has bone deficits, the person has a lack of bone cells, which means that the bone recovery does not work properly. For instance, after a traumatic injury or bone fractures. Nanoparticles have the ability to let the bone heal more easily after fractures and traumatic injuries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such as, alendronate, a bisphosphonate, which is commonly used to treat osteoporosis. The disadvantage of alendronate is that high doses are recommended to have a clinical effect. Eventually, this will have a toxic effect on the entire system of the human body. To solve this problem, a local method for loading alendronate onto poly(lactide co glycolide) (PLGA) is favored. In addition, in vivo research studies have confessed that PLGA nanoparticles coated with bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP 2) are suitable to increase the reconstruction of the bone during a calvarial defect. [Graham G. Walmsley et al. July 2015] Second, nanosilicates, which are incorporated into a matrix of gelatin, can interact with polymeric chains. This will have a positive effect on certain physical, chemical and biological characteristics. [Janet R. Xavier et al. February 2015] Nanosilicates have their unique surface charge and shape. This encourages very strong interactions with the gelatin collagen based matrix. Eventually, it will form structures which it can assembly itself. These structures can form and break dynamically which results in shear tinning characteristics. [Janet R. Xavier et al. February ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
