Achievement of the American Dream of an African American...
The Huxtable family in The Cosby Show represents the overarching achievement of the American
dream through an African American family. According to Marvin Riggs s 1992 documentary Color
Adjustment there were two types of images of African Americans in the media. On one hand, the news
showed the social and racial tensions that enveloped the post civil rights era. On the other hand,
primetime television depicted social harmony among the races an image that most Americans
understood as inaccurate. In the 1980s, most African Americans lived below the poverty line and
primetime television hesitated to present that challenged ideology of the American Dream to the
viewing public. Henry Louis Gates Jr. argues, in Color Adjustment, that the Black urban sitcoms
demonstrated both the greatest potential for representing Black life in television s history and also the
greatest failure. Residing comfortably in a Brooklyn brownstone, the Huxtables embodied a nuclear
and solid family resolving everyday issues of urban life, showing that African Americans could move
beyond the stereotypical realm of crooks and servants. The world of the Huxtable family created an
aspirational fantasy for minorities groups. The I m With The In Crowd episode succeeds in creating
this sense of hope for African Americans by idealizing the Huxtable family through the use of costume
and set design, while perpetuating certain African American stereotypes through acting methods and
the non diegetic laughter of

Comparison Between Birds And Pilate
Pilate is better able to fly away from societal expectations than the men in her life because she does so
without leaving others behind. Milkman leaves Hagar to die when he begins his search for his
heritage, and Macon Jr alienates almost everyone in the town when he aggressively collects rents. By
contrast, Pilate had flown around the expectations for her to cling to strong male figures, and she had
avoided the greed that many of her male neighbors displayed, but she had done so without causing
harm to her loved ones. Pilate s flight is represented by the bird that flies away with the earrings
because the bird combines the traditionally masculine quality of flight, and the traditionally feminine
quality of singing.. In the novel, singing

Reinhold Keuler s Experiment
Reinhold Koehler, born in 1919 in Dortmund and died in 1970 in Siegen, was a German painter,
printmaker, poet, and essayist, arguably one of the most interesting of the recently re discovered
artists. Self taught as an artist, Koehler began to immerse himself in fine arts during the time of World
War II, when he served as a soldier on the Eastern Front. There he executed his first watercolours, a
technique which remained his favorite in the first period of his artistic activity, with nature, landscape
and female nude as his leading subjects. Nevertheless, with the beginning of the new decade, Koehler
began to experiment, boldly osciliating between techniques. Consequently, turning to abstraction, in
1954, the artist started to incorporate sand

Creating Homogeneous Ability Grouping
Background
Research into ability grouping has raised questions about the process of creating homogeneous ability
groups. Evidence suggests it is not uncommon for students to be placed in an inappropriate group for
their ability level (Ireson Hallam 1999; MacIntyre Ireson 2002, as cited in Muijs Dunne, 2010). Muijs
and Dunne (2010) uncovered during their research that middle bands and even the high band
contained students with low test scores. The findings of Muijs and Dunne (2010) suggest the process
in place to group students according to their ability is unreliable. Hallinan (2003) reported the process
teachers were taking was to group students by standardised test scores, prior achievement and the
recommendations of teachers and counselors. The benefit of homogeneous ability grouping is the
opportunity to provide students with differentiated instruction based on their ability level. The result
of heterogeneous ability groups created through the grouping process is one of many concerns. ...

Students in the low band can suffer self esteem issues, as well as negative impacts on their attitude and
motivation (Suknandan Lee as cited in Smith Sutherland, 2006). The negative impacts are greatly felt
by schools in low socioeconomic areas. These schools had higher enrolment numbers, with a larger
portion of minority students and a greater range of abilities (Nomi, 2009). The negative impacts on
students in the low band are likely to be due to the label placed on them. Lanzo (2011) conducted a
comparison research and discovered at risk students benefitted from being in heterogeneous ability
groups rather than homogeneous ability

Everyday Use Theme
Everyday Use By Alice Walker
In Alice Walker s short story Everyday Use Mama is the narrator. She speaks of her family of two
daughters Maggie and Dee. Through the eyes of two daughters, Dee and Maggie, who have chosen to
live their lives in very different manners, the reader can choose which character to identify most with
by judging what is really important in one s life. Throughout the story three themes consistently show.
These themes show that the family is separated by shame, knowledge, and pride.
Maggie is shamed from her scares of being burnt by their previous house. As her mother describes,
She has been like this, chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle, ever since the fire that burned the
other house to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maggie is mostly saying Uhnnnh if anything at all throughout the whole story. Mama portrays Maggie
as a girl who will stand hopelessly... homely and ashamed of the burn scars down her arms and legs
from the fire, and who feels inferior to Dee (Walker 86). These burns and scars that Maggie has may
be the reason of her lack of knowledge simply because she was ashamed to be in the learning
atmosphere. Dee, unlike Maggie, is very brilliant. There seems to be some tension and or jealousy of
how smart Dee is. Mama and Maggie used to listen to Dee read to them while they where trapped
sitting there ignorantly. Mama said it was knowledge they didn t need to know. She also said that she
often fought off the urge to shake her. Since Mama didn t get a chance to go to school, she feels
inferior to Dee s skill of knowledge. Mama s tension is because she didn t get a chance to learn as
much as Dee has (Walker 87 88).
Pride is the theme that seems to separate this family the most. It s having pride versus not having it.
Maggie doesn t have it. She does not speak for herself when Dee wants the quilts. She lets mama
speak for her. Like a scalded dog, she hides behind Mama when Dee arrives. Mama compares Maggie
to a Lame animal...run over by a car... (Walker 88). Pride mostly comes from respect and she doesn t
get much. Dee maybe has too much pride. This probably comes from the world not knowing how to
say no to her. She has looks and she s what one would describe as

Globalization, Capitalism And The Everyday Essay
Theory
Theoretically this thesis engages with capitalist and neoliberal literature followed by literature on
everyday narratives to be able to contextualize consequences of historical and recent developments in
the Kurdistan Region (KR), addressed in literature section, and the ways people have been affected by
them are connected to the aforementioned topics.
In this section, I argue that through the intervention of outside institutions and governments, foreign
advisors and experts, and returnees from diaspora, a new politico economic model begins to emerge,
albeit very slowly and takes force in the late 1990s and reaches it apex in the late 2000s. I work
towards answering questions such as, how and why this model was implemented and who were the
actors, advisors, and think tanks behind it? What are the consequences on everyday experiences for
individuals and the collective? These questions will be answered by engaging with ethnographic
works and theoretical literature on neoliberalism, capitalism and the everyday. To follow the historical
roots of political and economic developments and trace their everyday affects vis à vis ethnographic
narratives. To understand how in Kurdistan a small elite made up of local politicians, World Bank
officials, economic advisors and class of businessmen have come to test their righteous neoliberal
agenda on previously neglected, underdeveloped region. A place requiring development and modern
changes, politically but most importantly,

Literary Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
In recent decades, Cormac McCarthy has staked his claim as one of the all time titans of American
literature through publishing masterpieces like Blood Meridian, Suttree, and The Road. In his works
his advanced level of technical mastery becomes apparent through his expertly harmonized
coordination of literary elements toward certain narrative ends, such as the generation of suspense. In
this light, McCarthy s literary style is a practical one, in that he organizes literary elements in his
works toward actualizing particular goals. In The Road, for instance, McCarthy directs his style
throughout the text so as to maximize the feeling of suspense that readers experience throughout the
book. This kind of stylistic maneuvering is expressed on pages 105 110 and pages 118 123 of the the
text. But, it must be noted here that the generation of suspense in these passages does not result from
similar stylistic approaches. McCarthy uses style in differently in Passage A and Passage B but
ultimately toward the same end, namely generating suspense for readers of The Road. Passage A relies
on dialogue to develop its suspense, whereas the style of Passage B relies on narrative action for its
suspense.
In Passage A, McCarthy uses ambiguous and foreboding dialogue in order to generate narrative
suspense. At the beginning of this passage the father and the son come upon a house at the edge of an
old town s remnants, and the boy asks his father where they are (105). The father ignores the

Symbolism and the Theme of Incest in quot; The Fall of the...
Symbolism and incest are both very apparent themes throughout the story of The Fall of the House of
Usher , by Edgar Allan Poe, and helps us to better understand the events that occur. Poe uses his
symbolism to reveal character traits, foreshadow future events and helps his reader to understand the
events that occur throughout the story. Throughout the story we realize that the relationship between
brother and sister is not a normal sibling bond. We also see that the siblings themselves are not normal
in all the aspects of a human being. Incest is an issue throughout the story and Poe constantly used
symbolism in the story to relate back to incest. Poe uses symbolism to expose character traits

Epilepsy a neurological disorder marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of
consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain. There is more
than 200,000 US cases per year. This Disorder comes with seizures and anxiety. The seizures occur
because of a sudden surge of electrical activity in the brain there is an overload of electrical activity in

Wireless Sensor Networks ( Wsn ) Is A Key Innovation For...
Abstract Wireless sensor networks (WSN) is a key innovation for the wireless network technology. It
generally has a large number of sensor nodes with a power unit, a sensing unit, a processing unit, a
storage unit, and a wireless transmitter receiver. They are more vulnerable to attack then wired ones
due to its nature and resources limitations. So as to overcome this security problems we can different
types of Key Distribution and Hierarchical WSN. This paper gives more solutions to all problems in
security issues of the Networks.
Keywords wireless sensor network, distributed wireless sensor network, hierarchical wireless sensor

(ii) Resource limitations on sensor nodes. (iii) Lack if fixed infrastructure. (iv) High risk of physical
attacks. (v) Unknown network topology prior to deployment. This is why it is tough to secure WSN.
II. TERMS, DEFINITIONS AND NOTATIONS
Terms used in this paper are as follows:
key: symmetric key which is used to secure communication among two sensor nodes.
pair wise key: key which is used to unicast communication between a pair of sensor nodes.
group wise key: key which is used to secure multicast communication among a group of sensor nodes
.
network wise key: key which is used to secure broadcast messages.
III. NETWORK MODELS AND SECURITY REQUIREMENTS OF WSN
There are generally 2 types of architectures in WSNs. (i) Hierarchical and (ii) Distributed. In a
Hierarchical WSN, A base station is a gateway to another network with some other base station to a
data processing and storage center, or a human interface node point. Base point takes data from
sensors send it to processing unit and that data is sent to the human interface node point. Therefore,
base stations are used as key distribution centers as they are connected every other node in network.
Sensor nodes form a dense network in form of clusters where a cluster of sensors lying in a specific
area may provide similar or close readings of data. Not all node gets the power from power unit few
sensor nodes depend on the ad hoc communication to reach base stations.

The Marine Mammal Protection Act Of 1972 Essay
Introduction Blood quantum is an inhuman way to calculate indigenous authenticity. Similar to
Ellinghaus (2008), I believe blood quantum is a manufactured, artificial estimate of an individual s
Native ancestry. Sanctioned in the United States to define membership in an Alaska Native tribe,
blood quantum refers to describing the degree of how much an individual is Alaska Indian, Aleut
and/or Eskimo. The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) issue Certificates of Indian Blood (CIB) for a
person to carry that describes this degree; the BIA sets no minimum blood quantum requirements for
acknowledgement purposes, but does require proof of descent from a historic Tribe (NEBI n.d). Blood
quantum is still used today by many tribes to specify requirements for legal citizenship; but is not
required by the acknowledgement regulations (NEBI n.d, n.p.). The Marine Mammal Protection Act
of 1972 is another way the government is deteriorating Native communities. This Act states that if you
are one quarter or higher of Alaska Indian, Aleut and/or Eskimo blood and coastal dwelling you are
able to take marine mammals for subsistence or handicraft purposes. I was raised in Cordova, Alaska
the home of my family, the Eyak people, for thousands of years. Brought up in a lifestyle of skin
sewing traditional garments made of sea otter, seal and sea lion fur. This tradition has been kept alive
in my family as well as many other families for thousands of years. I would like to pass this skill on

Fluoride Argumentative Essay
Daniel Fernandez
What if you found out that the water in your house was poisoning you and your family? How would
you feel knowing that the water your family uses everyday might slowly be killing them? Many
people believe that the government is secretly poisoning communities across the country by putting
fluoride in our tap water. Others believe that fluoride is a safe product that benefits us. Most scientists
and researchers are split on whether fluoride is harmful or not. The United States has been fluoridating
communities water supplies since the early 1940 s (livescience.com, 2013). In this essay we will be
looking to see if fluoride should be in our water supply or not.
The government says that we need fluoride, but fluoride is not an essential nutrient for humans.
Fluoride is the only chemical added into our water for the purpose of medical treatment. It is supposed
to prevent tooth decay, but studies show that tooth decay hasn t decreased significantly since fluoride
was added (fluoridealert.org, 2012). Fluoridated countries do not have less tooth decay than non

Once there was a king named Ali Hira of Heetor. He was kind, smart, and possessed every virtue a
King should have. While he was possessed with virtue, he was also possessed by demons who would
speak to him. He would always block them out. He had good judgement telling what he should listen

One day when the voices were particularly harsh, the king s wife Tira noticed that he was acting
strangely. She said, What is troubling you, my King?
Nothing I could tell you, Ali Hira answered. He knew that his wife would become afraid and be
unable to refrain from telling anyone.

2. If you had the ability to change your group project, how would you alter it and why? (1 paragraph)
I would alter the project by using the formula of VO2max=15x(HRmax/HRrest), and have each
participant perform a VO2Max test, by using the metabolic cart. I would then compare the results
from the metabolic cart and the VO2 equation, and them compare the results for comparison. I would
make this change, because our group had to alter the formula of VO2max=15x(HRmax/HRrest), in
order to perform a submaximal test. What we did was calculated the max heart rate, and multiplied
that value by 85% of VO2 which would be considered a submaximal test.
I would have liked to have seen the comparison to the equation and the metabolic cart, to see if there
was an increase or decrease in the values of each of the measurements of maximal oxygen
consumption. This would be interesting to analyze, because the population will not always have a
metabolic cart around to measure VO2. If the equation showed similar values to the metabolic cart, the
equation would be a good tool to use for estimation if the metabolic cart was not available.

What Is Elie Wiesel s Role In Night
Imagine being one of of five hundred thousand jews that survived the mass murdering of over 7
million jews. Elie Wiesel s survival of the holocaust was very significant due to how many times death
was just on the tip of his nose during the duration of being in camps and getting transferred numerous
times. In the novel Night the book goes over the whole experience of the holocaust down to the bare
bone from a first person point of view, the author Elie Wiesel was really able to grasp how things were
to go down during the holocaust and how almost everybody was mistreated. Some may believe that
Elie s faith in god is what kept him alive during his time in the concentration camp; however such as
physical and emotional support he got from his dear father more strongly proves that the relationship
with his father is actually what kept him alive.
There may be a misconception that his faith in god is what allowed Elie to survive the holocaust.

Narrative Essay On Water Polo
Water Polo is not an easy sport. And honestly, I kind of randomly picked the sport. When I first started
I barely knew what Water Polo even was, I had nothing to compair it to and no expectations. I started
to play Water polo in my Freshmen year, not knowing what I was jumping into; I didn t know what
swim sets were, I could barely swim, and I was very out of shape. But I also meet some really
amazing people, they were the main reason I stayed in the sport.
I became friends with a fellow Freshmen on my team, she had being playing club Water polo for a
long time before joining the Southridge Water polo team. She really helped me in my performance in
games; she worked with me on my shooting, leg work, and just the basics in general. But she wasn t
the only friend I made on the team; I got to know some Seniors who were really nice. One of them
even gave me a crown that said Varsity Water Polo 2016 . When she gave it to me, I asked, Is this one
of those Burger King crowns? and she replied, No! I got it .. from the crown store! Nevertheless, that
is still one of my favorite memories. It was just so random that I loved it, and still remember it to this
day. Another Senior was really tall and really nice, she always asked me how I was doing, and was
always ready to give me hand. At the end of the season it was really sad to see them have to go, I didn
t see them at school very much, so I really only saw them at practice, but I won t forget them anytime
soon.
I definitely wasn t the best player on the team, and I m still not, but I did have some shining moments.
Like the the first time I made a goal. Now that I think about it, I think the only reason I was able to get
that goal was because. I was the only one on the other side of the pool, so when Water Polo is not an

Essay on Small Business
Small Business 2
In accessing the Equal Employment Opportunity Office (EEOC) website, I found it very hard to find a
clear and concise reason as to why small businesses were treated differently than the larger businesses
and why the law would differentiate between them. These smaller organizations are sometimes treated
differently by the EEOC because they lack the resources that most large companies possess. Most
small businesses can t afford to hire the best qualified people that larger businesses can and do. They
may not be able to hire people that fit into the different classes (EEOC, 2008). For example, they may
want to hire someone with a disabili ty but really can t afford to because they would have to make ...

different laws that are enforced by EEOC for small businesses one of which is the Title VII of the
Civil Rights of 1964. This law makes it illegal to discriminate against any person based on race, color,
religion, national origin, or sex. This law also makes it unlawful to retaliate against a person because
the person complained about discrimination or filed a charged of discrimination (Laws Enforced by
EEOC).
Equal Pay Act of 1963 law is equally important to small businesses. This law makes it unlawful to pay
different salaries to men and women when they both are performing the exact same job. The Equal
Pay Act does not exclude all disparities in wage rates paid men and women but only those disparities
based only on gender (Twomey, D, and Jennings, M.M., 2011, p. 848).
Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, this law also enforced by the EEOC is intended to
protect individuals who are 40 years or older from discrimination because of age. It covers all private
employers with 20 or more employees (small business) (Anderson, R.A., Fox,

to aid small businesses. This law makes it illegal to discriminate against a qualified person with a

To what extent did Henry Kissinger s diplomatic actions with China play a dominant role in the

The intent of this investigation is to evaluate the degree to which Henry Kissinger s diplomatic actions
with China during his position of National Security Advisor and Secretary of State affected the
relations between the two world superpowers of the period time between the years of 1969 to 1977,

Evaluation of Sources 302 The Kissinger Transcripts, edited by a senior analyst, provides insight into
the top secret talks of Henry Kissinger with Beijing and Moscow through declassified transcripts. The
origin of this source is the National Security Archive, along with expert commentary written by
William Burr, who received his Ph.D. in history. The purpose of the book is to help others understand
the diplomacy of Henry Kissinger, who is considered to be one of the most influential figures of the
Cold War era. Because these transcripts were formerly classified, they offer insights and new pieces of
information that has not been seen by the public. It is valuable in that it offers both sides of the
conversation, so the reader could see the conversations that have changed history unfold. The
limitation of the document lies in the analysis portions of the book, due to the bias that William Burr

Descartes Philosophy
Descartes Philosophy Rene Descartes is a philosopher that lived during the Enlightenment period and
is famous for his philosophy of methodological doubt. His method of doubt was psychological in
character, involved a kind of rational insight, and implied a justified belief analysis of knowledge,
with justification construed in terms of being unshakable. (Newman) An important function of his
method was to enable people to redirect their attention from the senses to clear and distinct ideas
through intellect, reason, and doubt. Descartes understood knowledge as advancing truth. The
Enlightenment was an intellectual period that brought about ideas of God, reason, nature, and man. It
was a period of political and social upheaval that brought about revolutions and a period of learning to
think for oneself, employing and relying on the individual s capabilities to determine how to think and
act. (Bristow) Philosophy of that period caused tension with established religions. By using the
intellect to think and act, it required opposing the role of established religion by redirecting thoughts
and actions. It brought people to a higher human existence that was more fulfilled. Men became more
rational and developed goals of obtaining more knowledge, freedom, and happiness. With turmoil in
the empire, people became concerned for personal salvation, which also opposed the role of religion.
Established religion of those days taught that people should follow along without

Valley Forge Essay
Valley Forge: Quit or Stay When a person is in a stressful situation on instinct they have two options,
fight or flight. In war the same is true. War is not always bayonets and bullets, it s the decisions you
make during times of hardship. A soldier has to make the decision whether to keep fighting for what
they believe in no matter what the stakes or to flee. In December of 1777, George Washington and his
troops arrived at Valley Forge. Since the summer of 1775, all has gone well for the Continental Army.
More recently Washington was presumably unable to stop General Howe and his British soldiers from
claiming the national capital of Philadelphia. With Howe and his army of approximately 18,000

I am no longer fighting for myself, but for my nation and for my fallen comrades whose death must
not be in vain. Another reason I must re enlist is the fact that my government deserves my loyalty. The
Committee of Congress has stayed with us through much of the winter after arriving at Valley Forge a
few weeks ago and has given us hope (Document B). That hope has sparked within us a new flood of
encouragement and will power. When George Washington was talking to the 5 members of Congress,
he expressed the fact that we brave soldiers need help in our battle with Britain (Document B). Even
though it s cold, and we have threadbare clothing that are merely rags, and the Congress members are
all dressed in their finest, our spirit is still strong (Document B). Even Dr. Waldo stated that while
tending to our sick soldiers, he was surprised by the magnitude of cheerful willingness to proceed with
fighting for our cause (Document C). Dr. Waldo expected us to be down on our luck for having to
withstand the poor food, fatigue, cold weather, crowded huts, and smoky air quality which was due to
poor ventilation, but most soldiers were able to persevere through all of that hardship (Document C).
The Committee of Congress makes me feel like someone is listening to our needs. The general
supports us and the government cares about us, so I must support my government. Lastly, I am re

Newsworthy Debate Within My Program of Study:
STEM and/or Liberal Arts
Teré Fowler Chapman
Northern Arizona University
When I first went to college I was seventeen years old with a knack for writing, an investment in
history through story telling, and curious about group dynamics, psychology, and sociology. When I
was seventeen these weren t the words I used to describe my interests in continuing education and
because of this I remember scanning through majors that didn t fit all my interests simultaneously. For
a moment, Liberal Arts caught my eye as it gave me the freedom to explore my own identity.
However, upon sharing this out loud with those in my mesosystem the underlying message of

Liberal Education isn t focused on the political aspect of liberalism, however focuses on liberating its
students by giving students space to explore their passions deeply. This exploration cannot happen in
an education program that is built off of individualism and its exclusivity must constantly be
challenged. As Cronon states, We should remember the powerful class and gender biases that were
built into this vision of freedom. The free man who studied the Liberal Arts were male aristocrats;
these specialized bodies of knowledge were status markers that set them apart from unfree serfs and
peasants, as well as from the members of other vulgar and ignoble classes. Our modern sense of
Liberal Education has expanded from this medieval foundation to include a greater range of human
talents and a much more inclusive number of human beings, holding out at least the dream that
everyone might someday be liberated by an education that stands in the service of human freedom
(Olejarz, 2017). Liberal Education isn t about mastering a particular subject. Instead Liberal Education
is about mastering positive characteristics that foster a deeper sense of personal identity and cultivate
human freedom. When the debate between STEM and Liberal Education arise the underlying
impression of those that support segregating the importance of these two focuses challenge that

Physical Conflicts In Jeannette s The Glass Castle
In the book, The Glass Castle, the Walls encounter many interior and exterior conflicts. The children
learned how to fend for themselves because their parents were not suitable for that job. Jeannette and
Brian, two of the Walls children, took responsibility for themselves and their siblings. Jeannette retold
this true story from her point of view. The characters struggles did not end in one place. The Walls
were constantly on the move because their living situations were always temporary. They switched
from their car to a family house in Welch. Once the kids became older, some of them decided to move
to New York City to skyrocket their careers. Weaved into all of this chaos, were a few underlying
themes. The reader was taken on the children s journey and witnessed them blossom. They had to
mature quickly because their parents stripped them from their childhood. This was difficult and a lot
of pressure for these young kids. They had to persevere which in turn made them stronger individuals.
The rich characters, surplus of settings, and easily comprehensible themes made this a successful
novel. The variation of characters help the reader keep interest. Although this book is from a first
person point of view, it is easy to comprehend the emotions and visualize the events occurring. The
feeling of the book would change completely if the array of characters were not included. Each Wall
child has a significant part in Jeanette s story. Jeannette is a

Anakin And Oedipus Comparison
Anakin and Oedipus evolve their personalities as the conflicts of the story increase. These conflicts
ignite certain aspects of the characters that will eventually lead to their fate. These tragic characters
are meant to have flawed personality traits, so the audience can connect with the characters due to the
realistic traits and actions that any human can experience. The mental aspect of archetypal tragedies
shape tragic events occuring in the stories. Pride, paranoia, and hamartia, would eventually lead both
Anakin and Oedipus to their inevitable downfall.

In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus is very short tempered which drives the story to the tragic downfall, which is
his mother s death and self exile. Oedipus short temper leads him to kill his father because he was
irritated by the way he was spoken to and poked. Oedipus also exhibits his short temper when he
shouts at Teiresias because he was trying to hide the truth from him. He also then shouts at him for
telling him the truth after. Likewise, Anakin s tragic flaw also steered the story the same way it did
with Oedipus. Anakin was driven by his love for Padme which affected the story, by eventually
leading his life to a downfall. Anakin killed young Padawans, Jedis, and tried to kill his own mentor,
because of his extreme love for Padme. If Oedipus didn t kill his father because of his short temper,
darkness would not have fallen on Thebes. If Anakin wasn t so determined to keep Padme alive, he
wouldn t have handed the government to Darth Sidious and turned into Darth Vader. All of these tragic
downfalls were caused because of a tragic flaw, or hamartia. These humane characteristics relate to
other people through love, short tempers, or pride, etc... Various normal audience members would
relate to a strong bond of love, or a time when they projected boastful words. This creates the strong

Tadashi s Last Kiss
Prose
A prolonged silence engulfed the surrounding distance between the two figures, an icy wind cutting
across the plateau. They watched each other s every move, every twitch and every breath.
You always were a glutton for punishment, Tadashi called out, his sharp voice ringing throughout the
highland. He rose his blade and aimed it s pointed tip at her, continuously shifting his weight until he
was satisfied.
And you for power, she shot back, tightening her grip on the hilt of her weapon.
Tadashi examined her face although her expression bore no emotion. Her eyes were cold and glassy,
lips straightened in a tight line. Today, she was going to kill him.
She lunged forwards, springing across the frozen tundra silently and swiftly. Snow was tossed around
her body as she leapt towards Tadashi with a murderous intent. Plunging her blade at his chest, she
was left thrusting madly at empty air. Tadashi countered, swinging his sword with such strong
momentum that his opponent was sent staggering backwards. But he suspected it wouldn t be so easy.
Her shape flickered and disappeared from sight, leaving Tadashi to patiently await her next strike.
Nothing but the sound of the howling wind could be heard. A knowing smile crossed his face and he
swivelled on his heels, meeting her attack with the satisfying clang of metal upon metal. Their eyes
met and they stood in the cold, neither daring to break the steely gaze. Tadashi was prepared to end
her life as quickly as

Gathering Around the Table
My early memories bring back images of my family and I gathered around the white kitchen table. At
that table, my mom revealed the list of potential names for my new baby brother. Manner lessons
given at meal times consisted of shouts of elbows off the table and stop kicking your sister , which
echoed over the commotion of meals. My family and I spent dinner time bonding, finding out about
each other s days, and spending a few moments together as a family before we were tucked into bed.
Meals show a common tie that bonds us all; everyone eats and can relate to the experience. Many
novels use this bond to portray a theme in the plot. Gathering around a table and sharing a meal can
lead to friendship and a feeling of togetherness.
The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, describes a meal that brings a family together. After
August s sister, May, passes away, the family breaks and morns. A simple dinner brings the group back
together and their life starts to return to what it was before May s death. This regular dinner, followed
by August and Lily s favorite dessert, Coke and peanuts, show that the family can move on. They each
got a bag of peanuts and a bottle of ice cold Coke. Lily [shook] the peanuts into [her] bottle, where
they caused a little reaction of foam, then floated on the brown liquid. [She] drank and munched with
the glory of salt and sweet in [her] mouth at the same time. (Kidd, 492). For the family it became a

A prospective, randomized, controlled trial was conducted during the study. One family member per
patient was assessed over the telephone 90 days after the patient s death. The measurements collected
include the symptoms related to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other significant
symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Study Variables For this study patient families were randomly assigned to the intervention or control
group. In the control group the interactions between the family and ICU staff, including the end of life
conference, occurred according to the usual practices and policies in the hospital; whereas in the
intervention group, the research study was conducted according to specific guidelines. A bereavement
information leaflet was given to each surrogate decision maker. In this research, the independent
variable can be the type of family conference received by the surrogates and the dependent variables
were the level of stress, anxiety, and depression levels indicated in the 90 day follow up interview.

Critical Race Theory-Oppressive Framework
Findings The Researches were very consistent with the issue of overrepresentation, and linking it to
the concept of racialization. Many participants reported their experience is linked to, differential

females have been more rude to females (Clark, 2011; Clark 2012). Future research shows issues

Individuals are chosen based on their association with the children s aid society and coding is done

  • 2. Achievement of the American Dream of an African American... The Huxtable family in The Cosby Show represents the overarching achievement of the American dream through an African American family. According to Marvin Riggs s 1992 documentary Color Adjustment there were two types of images of African Americans in the media. On one hand, the news showed the social and racial tensions that enveloped the post civil rights era. On the other hand, primetime television depicted social harmony among the races an image that most Americans understood as inaccurate. In the 1980s, most African Americans lived below the poverty line and primetime television hesitated to present that challenged ideology of the American Dream to the viewing public. Henry Louis Gates Jr. argues, in Color Adjustment, that the Black urban sitcoms demonstrated both the greatest potential for representing Black life in television s history and also the greatest failure. Residing comfortably in a Brooklyn brownstone, the Huxtables embodied a nuclear and solid family resolving everyday issues of urban life, showing that African Americans could move beyond the stereotypical realm of crooks and servants. The world of the Huxtable family created an aspirational fantasy for minorities groups. The I m With The In Crowd episode succeeds in creating this sense of hope for African Americans by idealizing the Huxtable family through the use of costume and set design, while perpetuating certain African American stereotypes through acting methods and the non diegetic laughter of ... • 3. Comparison Between Birds And Pilate Pilate is better able to fly away from societal expectations than the men in her life because she does so without leaving others behind. Milkman leaves Hagar to die when he begins his search for his heritage, and Macon Jr alienates almost everyone in the town when he aggressively collects rents. By contrast, Pilate had flown around the expectations for her to cling to strong male figures, and she had avoided the greed that many of her male neighbors displayed, but she had done so without causing harm to her loved ones. Pilate s flight is represented by the bird that flies away with the earrings because the bird combines the traditionally masculine quality of flight, and the traditionally feminine quality of singing.. • 4. Reinhold Keuler s Experiment Reinhold Koehler, born in 1919 in Dortmund and died in 1970 in Siegen, was a German painter, printmaker, poet, and essayist, arguably one of the most interesting of the recently re discovered artists. Self taught as an artist, Koehler began to immerse himself in fine arts during the time of World War II, when he served as a soldier on the Eastern Front. There he executed his first watercolours, a technique which remained his favorite in the first period of his artistic activity, with nature, landscape and female nude as his leading subjects. Nevertheless, with the beginning of the new decade, Koehler began to experiment, boldly osciliating between techniques. Consequently, turning to abstraction, in 1954, the artist started to incorporate sand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Creating Homogeneous Ability Grouping Background Research into ability grouping has raised questions about the process of creating homogeneous ability groups. Evidence suggests it is not uncommon for students to be placed in an inappropriate group for their ability level (Ireson Hallam 1999; MacIntyre Ireson 2002, as cited in Muijs Dunne, 2010). Muijs and Dunne (2010) uncovered during their research that middle bands and even the high band contained students with low test scores. The findings of Muijs and Dunne (2010) suggest the process in place to group students according to their ability is unreliable. Hallinan (2003) reported the process teachers were taking was to group students by standardised test scores, prior achievement and the recommendations of teachers and counselors. The benefit of homogeneous ability grouping is the opportunity to provide students with differentiated instruction based on their ability level. The result of heterogeneous ability groups created through the grouping process is one of many concerns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Students in the low band can suffer self esteem issues, as well as negative impacts on their attitude and motivation (Suknandan Lee as cited in Smith Sutherland, 2006). The negative impacts are greatly felt by schools in low socioeconomic areas. These schools had higher enrolment numbers, with a larger portion of minority students and a greater range of abilities (Nomi, 2009). • 6. Everyday Use Theme Everyday Use By Alice Walker In Alice Walker s short story Everyday Use Mama is the narrator. She speaks of her family of two daughters Maggie and Dee. Through the eyes of two daughters, Dee and Maggie, who have chosen to live their lives in very different manners, the reader can choose which character to identify most with by judging what is really important in one s life. Throughout the story three themes consistently show. These themes show that the family is separated by shame, knowledge, and pride. Maggie is shamed from her scares of being burnt by their previous house. As her mother describes, She has been like this, chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle, ever since the fire that burned the other house to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maggie is mostly saying Uhnnnh if anything at all throughout the whole story. Mama portrays Maggie as a girl who will stand hopelessly... homely and ashamed of the burn scars down her arms and legs from the fire, and who feels inferior to Dee (Walker 86). These burns and scars that Maggie has may be the reason of her lack of knowledge simply because she was ashamed to be in the learning atmosphere. Dee, unlike Maggie, is very brilliant. There seems to be some tension and or jealousy of how smart Dee is. Mama and Maggie used to listen to Dee read to them while they where trapped sitting there ignorantly. Mama said it was knowledge they didn t need to know. She also said that she often fought off the urge to shake her. Since Mama didn t get a chance to go to school, she feels inferior to Dee s skill of knowledge. Mama s tension is because she didn t get a chance to learn as much as Dee has (Walker 87 88). Pride is the theme that seems to separate this family the most. It s having pride versus not having it. Maggie doesn t have it. She does not speak for herself when Dee wants the quilts. She lets mama speak for her. Like a scalded dog, she hides behind Mama when Dee arrives. Mama compares Maggie to a Lame animal...run over by a car... (Walker 88). Pride mostly comes from respect and she doesn t get much. Dee maybe has too much pride. This probably comes from the world not knowing how to say no to her. Globalization, Capitalism And The Everyday Essay Theory Theoretically this thesis engages with capitalist and neoliberal literature followed by literature on everyday narratives to be able to contextualize consequences of historical and recent developments in the Kurdistan Region (KR), addressed in literature section, and the ways people have been affected by them are connected to the aforementioned topics. In this section, I argue that through the intervention of outside institutions and governments, foreign advisors and experts, and returnees from diaspora, a new politico economic model begins to emerge, albeit very slowly and takes force in the late 1990s and reaches it apex in the late 2000s. I work towards answering questions such as, how and why this model was implemented and who were the actors, advisors, and think tanks behind it? What are the consequences on everyday experiences for individuals and the collective? These questions will be answered by engaging with ethnographic works and theoretical literature on neoliberalism, capitalism and the everyday. To follow the historical roots of political and economic developments and trace their everyday affects vis à vis ethnographic narratives. To understand how in Kurdistan a small elite made up of local politicians, World Bank officials, economic advisors and class of businessmen have come to test their righteous neoliberal agenda on previously neglected, underdeveloped region. • 8. Literary Analysis Of Cormac Mccarthy s The Road In recent decades, Cormac McCarthy has staked his claim as one of the all time titans of American literature through publishing masterpieces like Blood Meridian, Suttree, and The Road. In his works his advanced level of technical mastery becomes apparent through his expertly harmonized coordination of literary elements toward certain narrative ends, such as the generation of suspense. In this light, McCarthy s literary style is a practical one, in that he organizes literary elements in his works toward actualizing particular goals. In The Road, for instance, McCarthy directs his style throughout the text so as to maximize the feeling of suspense that readers experience throughout the book. This kind of stylistic maneuvering is expressed on pages 105 110 and pages 118 123 of the the text. But, it must be noted here that the generation of suspense in these passages does not result from similar stylistic approaches. McCarthy uses style in differently in Passage A and Passage B but ultimately toward the same end, namely generating suspense for readers of The Road. Passage A relies on dialogue to develop its suspense, whereas the style of Passage B relies on narrative action for its suspense. In Passage A, McCarthy uses ambiguous and foreboding dialogue in order to generate narrative suspense. At the beginning of this passage the father and the son come upon a house at the edge of an old town s remnants, and the boy asks his father where they are (105). The father ignores the ... Therefore, base stations are used as key distribution centers as they are connected every other node in network. • 13. The Marine Mammal Protection Act Of 1972 Essay Introduction Blood quantum is an inhuman way to calculate indigenous authenticity. Similar to Ellinghaus (2008), I believe blood quantum is a manufactured, artificial estimate of an individual s Native ancestry. Sanctioned in the United States to define membership in an Alaska Native tribe, blood quantum refers to describing the degree of how much an individual is Alaska Indian, Aleut and/or Eskimo. The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) issue Certificates of Indian Blood (CIB) for a person to carry that describes this degree; the BIA sets no minimum blood quantum requirements for acknowledgement purposes, but does require proof of descent from a historic Tribe (NEBI n.d). Blood quantum is still used today by many tribes to specify requirements for legal citizenship; but is not required by the acknowledgement regulations (NEBI n.d, n.p.). The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 is another way the government is deteriorating Native communities. This Act states that if you are one quarter or higher of Alaska Indian, Aleut and/or Eskimo blood and coastal dwelling you are able to take marine mammals for subsistence or handicraft purposes. I was raised in Cordova, Alaska the home of my family, the Eyak people, for thousands of years. Brought up in a lifestyle of skin sewing traditional garments made of sea otter, seal and sea lion fur. How would you feel knowing that the water your family uses everyday might slowly be killing them? I would then compare the results from the metabolic cart and the VO2 equation, and them compare the results for comparison. I would make this change, because our group had to alter the formula of VO2max=15x(HRmax/HRrest), in order to perform a submaximal test. What we did was calculated the max heart rate, and multiplied that value by 85% of VO2 which would be considered a submaximal test. I would have liked to have seen the comparison to the equation and the metabolic cart, to see if there was an increase or decrease in the values of each of the measurements of maximal oxygen consumption. This would be interesting to analyze, because the population will not always have a metabolic cart around to measure VO2. If the equation showed similar values to the metabolic cart, the equation would be a good tool to use for estimation if the metabolic cart was not available. 3. Essay on Small Business Small Business 2 In accessing the Equal Employment Opportunity Office (EEOC) website, I found it very hard to find a clear and concise reason as to why small businesses were treated differently than the larger businesses and why the law would differentiate between them. These smaller organizations are sometimes treated differently by the EEOC because they lack the resources that most large companies possess. Most small businesses can t afford to hire the best qualified people that larger businesses can and do. They may not be able to hire people that fit into the different classes (EEOC, 2008). For example, they may want to hire someone with a disabili ty but really can t afford to because they would have to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This law also makes it unlawful to retaliate against a person because the person complained about discrimination or filed a charged of discrimination (Laws Enforced by EEOC). Equal Pay Act of 1963 law is equally important to small businesses. This law makes it unlawful to pay different salaries to men and women when they both are performing the exact same job. The purpose of the book is to help others understand the diplomacy of Henry Kissinger, who is considered to be one of the most influential figures of the Cold War era. • 31. Descartes Philosophy Descartes Philosophy Rene Descartes is a philosopher that lived during the Enlightenment period and is famous for his philosophy of methodological doubt. His method of doubt was psychological in character, involved a kind of rational insight, and implied a justified belief analysis of knowledge, with justification construed in terms of being unshakable. (Newman) An important function of his method was to enable people to redirect their attention from the senses to clear and distinct ideas through intellect, reason, and doubt. Descartes understood knowledge as advancing truth. The Enlightenment was an intellectual period that brought about ideas of God, reason, nature, and man. It was a period of political and social upheaval that brought about revolutions and a period of learning to think for oneself, employing and relying on the individual s capabilities to determine how to think and act. (Bristow) Philosophy of that period caused tension with established religions. By using the intellect to think and act, it required opposing the role of established religion by redirecting thoughts and actions. It brought people to a higher human existence that was more fulfilled. Men became more rational and developed goals of obtaining more knowledge, freedom, and happiness. With turmoil in the empire, people became concerned for personal salvation, which also opposed the role of religion. War is not always bayonets and bullets, it s the decisions you make during times of hardship. A soldier has to make the decision whether to keep fighting for what they believe in no matter what the stakes or to flee. In December of 1777, George Washington and his troops arrived at Valley Forge. Since the summer of 1775, all has gone well for the Continental Army. More recently Washington was presumably unable to stop General Howe and his British soldiers from claiming the national capital of Philadelphia. That hope has sparked within us a new flood of encouragement and will power. When George Washington was talking to the 5 members of Congress, he expressed the fact that we brave soldiers need help in our battle with Britain (Document B). Even though it s cold, and we have threadbare clothing that are merely rags, and the Congress members are all dressed in their finest, our spirit is still strong (Document B). Even Dr. Waldo stated that while tending to our sick soldiers, he was surprised by the magnitude of cheerful willingness to proceed with fighting for our cause (Document C). Dr. Waldo expected us to be down on our luck for having to withstand the poor food, fatigue, cold weather, crowded huts, and smoky air quality which was due to poor ventilation, but most soldiers were able to persevere through all of that hardship (Document C). This exploration cannot happen in an education program that is built off of individualism and its exclusivity must constantly be challenged. The free man who studied the Liberal Arts were male aristocrats; these specialized bodies of knowledge were status markers that set them apart from unfree serfs and peasants, as well as from the members of other vulgar and ignoble classes. Our modern sense of Liberal Education has expanded from this medieval foundation to include a greater range of human talents and a much more inclusive number of human beings, holding out at least the dream that everyone might someday be liberated by an education that stands in the service of human freedom (Olejarz, 2017). The children learned how to fend for themselves because their parents were not suitable for that job. Jeannette and Brian, two of the Walls children, took responsibility for themselves and their siblings. Jeannette retold this true story from her point of view. At that table, my mom revealed the list of potential names for my new baby brother. Manner lessons given at meal times consisted of shouts of elbows off the table and stop kicking your sister , which echoed over the commotion of meals. My family and I spent dinner time bonding, finding out about each other s days, and spending a few moments together as a family before we were tucked into bed. Meals show a common tie that bonds us all; everyone eats and can relate to the experience. Many novels use this bond to portray a theme in the plot. Gathering around a table and sharing a meal can lead to friendship and a feeling of togetherness. The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, describes a meal that brings a family together.
