Fall Out Boy Bio
Back in 2001, Joseph Trohman was just another 16 year old Chicago suburb high school student stuck
in a low paying job with dreams. Joe, as he was called by friends and family, had a passion, a passion
for music. Joe could play the guitar well and had a dream to start a band. With this dream in mind, Joe
called up a friend from another local band, that Joe had toured with, Arma Angelus and asked him to
play. Pete Wentz was most noticeably the second member of an unnamed band. Peter Wentz was a 21
year old college student with more passion for music then anything else. Pete comes from Wilmette,
where his parents both lived up the suburban way of life. They lived in a townhouse where Pete s
parents weren t one hundred percent ok with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly before the tour was about to kick off, Pete Wentz again found himself in the limelight. Pete s
sidekick had reportedly been stolen and some pictures were taken off it and placed on the internet. The
pictures, showed a side of Pete that most teenagers wanted to see, it was Pete s personal genitals. Pete
did not let this incident get him too down. Pete realized that he could not leave the band right before
their fist major tour. The Black Clouds and Underdogs Tour was a major success and Fall Out Boy
found themselves with more growing fame with each passing day. A little less 16 Candles was the
last of the singles to be released from the FUCT. The band went on tour across Europe and Japan to
promote their album, then they stopped making music. They didn t fall off the radar completely. The
band kicked up their own production company, Decaydance. Decaydance promotes well known bands
like Gym Class Heroes, Panic! At The Disco, and The Hush Sound. Also Pete from the band started
his own clothing line, Clandestine Industries. Clandestine Industries was an instant success, with
many of Fall Out Boy s fans purchasing as much merchandise as they could. In July of 2006, the band
let out the news on their popular website falloutboyrock.com, that the band was back in the studios,
working on a new album. The general public could not wait for the album to be released. The

Sarbanes Oxley Act and the PCAOB Essay
The Sarbanes Oxley Act Overview:
The development of the Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX) was a result of public company scandals. The
Enron and Worldcom scandals, for example, helped investor confidence in entities traded on the
public markets weaken during 2001 and 2002. Congress was quick to respond to the political crisis
and enacted the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, which was signed into law by President Bush on July 30
(Edward Jones, 1), to restore investor confidence. In reference to SOX, penalties would be issued to
non ethical or non law abiding public companies and their executives, directors, auditors, attorneys,
and securities analysts (1). SOX significantly transformed the procedures in which public companies

Case Study Of The Volkswagen Emission Scandal
Introduction
This Case Study will look into the Volkswagen emission scandal and they key corporate issues that
underline it. A case Study is a process or record of research into the development of a particular group
over a period of time. I am writing this Case Study for the purpose of researching and analyzing how a
company like Volkswagen, which was named no. 8 on Forbes fortune 500 list in 2014, could be
involved in one of the biggest scandals in this decade.
Volkswagen group sells passenger cars under Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche, Seat,
Škoda and of course Volkswagen itself and is one of the biggest car manufacturers in the World.
Unfortunately in 2015 it emerged that Volkswagen was involved in unlawful practice regarding their
diesel cars not meeting emission standards and how they tried to rectify this problem in an unlawful
manner. My paper will be divided into two key parts: The Case Study and The Case Analysis. In the
case study I will give an overview of what happened in the Volkswagen emissions scandal, which is
still ongoing, I will give a background and context to all the key parties involved and then depict the
key events that shape this scandal. Secondly, I will do the Case Study Analysis where I will identify
all the corporate governance issues and then critically evaluate if VW ... Show more content on

The Dove Campaign For Real Beauty And Its Effectiveness
This essay analyses the psychology behind The Dove Campaign For Real Beauty and its effectiveness.
The analysis includes a brief explanation of the elaboration likelihood model and how it explains
attitude formation. The other section of the analysis explores the self concept and its effectiveness
towards the campaign.
The Dove brand was established in 1957 in the U.S. introducing its new innovative cleansing bar and
now with various products such as deodorants, lotions and hair products, the brand has rooted itself to
listen to women. Under the protection of Unilever, Dove has certainly made its mark and has gained
immense success especially when competing along 400 brands. However there are only 14 brands,
including Dove, which generate sales in excess of €1 billion a year (Unilever, 2015). The first stage of
the campaign, which was launched in 2004, targeted women through the use of billboard
advertisements (see Figure 1). Since then, the campaign has expanded from billboards to television
ads and its online videos have gone viral.
Using the tagline Imagine a World Where Beauty is a Source of Confidence, Not Anxiety , the
campaign instigated a global conversation about the need for a broader definition of beauty. The
reason for this was due to the findings found by The Real Truth About Beauty: A Global Report ,
which showed that only 2% of women around the world describe themselves as beautiful however
when the report was revisited this had increased to 4% (Dove,

How Did Myrtle Wilson Fail In The Great Gatsby
The failure of the American Dream
The novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is about the American Dream. The American
Dream is the ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success through
hard work. The failure of the American Dream is represented by Myrtle Wilson, Daisy Buchanan, and
Jay Gatsby.
Myrtle Wilson s dream is to have an opulent, happy life. One reason why her American Dream fails is
because of Daisy Buchanan. In The Great Gatsby, it says, [...] until I realized that her eyes, wide with
jealous terror, were fixed not on Tom, but on Jordan Baker, whom she took to be his wife (Fitzgerald,
125). Myrtle is jealous of Daisy because she wants to be with Tom. She is not happy with her life.
Another reason why her American Dream fails is because of George Wilson. In The Great Gatsby,
Myrtle states, She smiled slowly and, walking through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gatsby himself is a reason why his American Dream fails. In The Great Gatsby, the book states, And
inside, as we wandered through Marie Antoinette music rooms and Restoration salons [...]
(Fitzgerald,91). Also in The Great Gatsby, the author states, We went upstairs, through period
bedrooms swathed in rose and lavender silk and vivid with new flowers, through dressing rooms and
poolrooms, and bathrooms, with sunken baths [...] (Fitzgerald, 91). Gatsby thinks he can impress
Daisy and win her back by showing his wealth. Gatsby cannot discern that by trying to get Daisy, he
can t tell the difference between what is right and wrong. He does not get to be with Daisy because of
Tom. Tom is a reason why his American Dream fails. In The Great Gatsby, the book expresses, In
June she married Tom Buchanan of Chicago, with more pomp and circumstance than Louisville every
knew before (Fitzgerald, 75). Daisy married Tom Buchanan while Gatsby was fighting in the war. If
Daisy did not get married and waited for Gatsby, then Gatsby would have been with

Essay on Employee Relationship of British Airways (Ba)
Employee Relationship of British Airways (BA)

British Airways happens to be the ninth largest airline in the world, in terms of the number of
passengers it carries. At the international level, it operates to more destinations than any other airline
and therefore is considered as an airline possessing the strongest network in the international market.
At present, it is operating to 167 different destinations in 87 different countries around the globe
(British Airways Plc and British Caledonian Group plc, 2002).
British Airways has the major advantage of being based in a premier location, i.e. London Heathrow,

Collectivism, like individualism, has two extremes ranging from willing cooperation at one end to a
grudging acceptance at the other (Farnham D, 1993, p36 7) It is important to understand that no
company is strictly individualist or collectivist and the links between the two employee relations are
not incompatible with each other. Overall, BA has the collectivist approach because large emphasis is
on the group. One such example is the nurturing of cabin crew. Families of staff are created to work
the same shift patterns. This was pursued to encourage mutual support, make cabin crew feel
comfortable about their working environment, and as a result, facilitate the production of emotional
labour (I Grugulis and A Wilkinson, 2001, p13).
#61656; Unitary or pluralist management styles?
As for a particular type of Management style in practice, this is difficult to say, as there is overlap
between the two main categories; unitary and the pluralist. BA has some of the characteristics of the
unitary approach in the sense that the different departments consist of teams of people working
together towards common aims and there s a presence of strong leadership to create loyalty. Strong
emphasis is placed on employee training, which BA takes very seriously in order to create

Vietnam War As A Civic Duty And A True Testament
Vietnam
In the 1960s, America found itself divided among various social matters. Conformity, civil rights, and
the Vietnam war. While the older generations viewed fighting in the war as a civic duty and a true
testament to what it meant to be an American , the counterculture did not share this belief. Regardless
of how anyone felt about the war, it had escalated to epic proportions and as one citizen put it, It was
on our mind every single hour of the day (PBS CITE). Vietnam was the first war ever to be televised,
and with that came constant coverage and a growing concern from young Americans. In addition, the
military draft made matters worse by forced the youth America to fight. By 1968, the war in Vietnam
had claimed over 15,000 American lives (CITE PBS). Between the draft and the growing American
casualties, greater tension in the US was created. Young Americans had to ask themselves if the war
was worth fighting.
Opposition to the draft and draft evasion was the central plot element in Hair with Claude s indecision
of whether or not to serve his country in Vietnam a war he does not believe in (Young, 1993, p. 71).
Claude represent most of the youth of America and their confusion which was ignited by the war. His
internal conflict is depicted in the song Where do I Go : Where do I go/ Follow the children (...) Is
there an answer / In their sweet faces / That tells me why I live and die (SONG CITE). Here, Claude
talks about following his tribe as a way to make

Understand The Effect Of Solar Plasma On Earth s...
2nd P: To understand the effects of solar plasma on Earth s magnetosphere, one must look at the
creation of plasma in the early days of the sun. The sun s creation is similar to the process in the
explosion of a hydrogen bomb, only with the energy created equaling the force of 10 billion hydrogen
bombs per second. When the sun was originally forming, hydrogen gas in the middle was crushed
from weight above. Eventually, the pressures and temperatures reached such an intense point to where
the hydrogen atoms broke apart into electrons and photons, thus, creating plasma. Photons from the
explosion of electrons and protons are made so fast and so many at a time that it creates the observed
power of the sun. This reaches us as sunlight. Even though the process of the energy created is
relatively quick, the process in which the photons travel to Earth happens over a long time within the
Sun s layers. The energy of sunlight that shines down on us today is over 100,000 years 1 ... Show

The overall movement and rotation of the sun effect the magnetic fields in the sun. This movement
churns up plasma in the convection zone*, which in turn stirs up electrical currents, and finally creates
a magnetic field. Within these magnetic fields exists field lines, the main component of the solar
flares. Loops in the magnetic field lines rise with energy from the surface. On one end of the loop
exists a positive while the other end is negative. Plasma underneath stirs the poles and pumps
numerous amounts of energy into them. However, if the poles are twisted enough the loops cross
which creates a short circuit resulting in a tremendous outward explosion. The result is a solar flare.
Within these solar flares, nets of plasma are flung into space and can be described as coronal mass
ejections (solar storms). These CMEs flung into the solar system are what can wreak havoc on the

Hearing Loss Intervention
In today s time, there is a need for new prevention, assessment, and intervention strategies for adults
experiencing hearing loss accompanied by, or at risk for, dementia (Pichora Fuller, 2015). Research
has found that individuals with hearing loss are at risk for developing dementia, and dementia is also
more prevalent in individuals with dementia. Patients with dementia are recognized at different stages,
and the Pichora Fuller questions the possibility of earlier and better health care slowing the
progression of, or even completely deterring, dementia. Often, those with high cognitive abilities are
involved in social activities, some type of physical activities, may be a musician, or possess good
cognitive skills, such as being bilingual. However, individuals that experience poor hearing often are
hindered when it comes to participating in such activities, which is thought to be one significant link
between dementia and hearing loss. When assessing the connection between hearing loss and
cognitive impairment, two main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common form of hearing rehabilitation is hearing aids. The issue arises when the oldest old
adults do not have access to hearing aids, which could be due to financial issues or because they are
unable to go to an audiologist s clinic or office. Future research is needed in the areas of prevention,
assessment, and intervention. A greatly structured research project is needed for determining how to
prevent or slow dementia. For assessment, establishing multi disciplinary teams willing to share their
knowledge of cognition and hearing is critical. More research is needed for intervention to determine
the burden that is placed on a caregiver, as well as how intervention could assist caregivers faced with
taking care of an oldest old patient with a hearing loss and dementia.

The Carolina Panthers Sports Team Analysis
Banks, NASCAR, and Duke Energy; the city of Charlotte is well known for all of these qualities.
However, one thing that always pales in comparison to these traits sports. Looking at cites like New
York, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles all have successful sports teams, whether they be football,
basketball, or baseball. Charlotte in recent years has seen flashes of success but has never seen a
consistent winner like other large cities in the America. Since Charlotte established sports teams, they
have suffered from years of mediocrity because of a lack of star talent. One reason Carolina Panthers
are seen as mediocre in sports is because of the lack talented stars that they can build on. The Carolina
Panthers had a couple of Pro Bowl caliber players over the years, like Julius Peppers and Steve Smith,
but over time the Panthers rid themselves of both players. When both players left, many fans turned
against the franchise and became fans of other teams. For example, Charlotte now became a
conglomerate of NFL teams. I, personally, have seen many Cowboys, Redskins and Steelers fans in
this city alone than Panther fans, especially when Steve Smith fled the team in 2013 due to contract
disputes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Creativity In Aldus Huxley s Brave New World
Humans have become more creative as time has gone on. This can be justified through different
movements in history, such as the enlightenment age, or the romanticism era. But the change that

Since people s views only go as far as seeing programs like painting, drawing, choir or orchestra to
which can help develop one s creativity as just a distraction towards more important classes, such as
science or math. Though multiple studies prove, Schools with long standing art programs have higher
graduation rates. In many instances, art classes motivate students to stay in school, especially low
achieving students, by fostering closer ties with peers and creating community oriented environments
(Metla). Showing, how schools with art programs can serve as a motivation for a student s need for
success. Not only do programs like art or music motivate, but classes taught at college levels also
show how subjects like, The humanities teach something. Their subject matter is culture, and since
everything human beings do is mediated by culture by language, by representations, by systems of
values and beliefs knowing how to understand other languages, interpret cultural expressions, and
evaluate belief systems is as indispensable to functioning effectively in the professional world as
knowing how to use a computer. This knowledge may or may not make you a better person; it can
certainly make you more productive and successful in the workplace (Menand). To which,
undoubtedly justifies the importance of classes like the humanities, because there is basic knowledge
that can be learned and applied to one s life. Furthermore showing how many Schools across the
country have faced budget shortfalls in recent years, a common cost cutting measure is to slash
funding for arts education, prioritizing what are deemed more essential subjects such as math, reading,
and science (Fang). When schools focus less on classes that enhance a student s creative and
innovative thinking, then there is less of a chance that

Monitoring Internet Privacy
While everyone might think that clearing search history, deleting a picture or tweet might make it
disappear forever, it is not true. If the government wanted to they could monitor your internet use.
While this could be helpful it is also harmful. I do not think the government should be able to monitor
your internet use, unless they have a reason to. While monitoring internet content does not violate any
of the amendment it is an invasion of privacy. Most young adults and teens only use the internet as
means of communicating. It does not harm anyone in any way. While most people are using internet
for good, some people may not be. There are many cases of cyber bullying that could be going on, and
adults may not know. Since cyber bullying is becoming a bigger issue as technology advances, and
certain apps come out that could be used for bullying it could be helpful to be able to monitor internet
use. So as for local government it makes sense that they could monitor internet content if a problem is
brought to their attention. As for federal and state goverment, they do not need to monitor your
internet use unless they have a reason to. Such as terorist websites or threatening emails that ... Show

Big Business vs. Labor, 1870-1925
Reunited by the Union victory in the Civil War, America faced an era of reconstruction during which
the value of the individual was reanalyzed and redefined in law. After the reconstruction, a sense of
peace and prosperity calmed the American people. Given hope by their success in maintaining the
Union, the Progressive Era ensued. The previously forgotten vision of Alexander Hamilton was reborn
and finally implemented. America was no longer the land of the yeoman farmer. Denizens of rural
areas moved to the city and sought to work in the gradually industrializing regions of the country. As
big business gained power, the laborers sought to achieve the American Dream of economic prosperity
through self improvement in a laissez faire economy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was an obvious and dangerous amount of corruption that allowed big business to control the
federal government. What a funny little government! Fig. 3. Cartoon by Horace Taylor, The Verdict,
Sept. 25, 1899 Horace Taylor puts his opinion into prospective with this political cartoon. Businesses
became more powerful than the government itself, which was too afraid to interfere in the
exploitation. One such exploitation was the creation of corporation. Corporations were designed to
limit the liabilities of its shareholders and thusly minimize the loss of capital by criminalizing only the
legal entity, rather than its underlying workers. Thusly, legal suits and such became nearly useless
against the incorporated. Additionally, as corporations grew unchecked, they found other ways to
control competition. The railroad industry, the first big business of America, used pools and rebates to
maximize profit but decrease competition – a principal not part of capitalism. Progress was slowed by
the lack of competition, but the pursuit of wealth helped maintain it or a time. The trust was similar to
a pool, but trusts were far more hierarchal and were used by corporations rather than regions. Having
all the power in the world, businesses could grow and do whatever they wanted without worrying
about the government ceasing their progress. Big businesses were often unscrupulous and exploitative
of the working class. Such exploitation occurred

Morality Of Homelessness
Homelessness not only affects politics, the economy, and social environments, it also heavily
influences morality. Should homelessness continue in its current state, the moral compass of humanity
as a whole will be thrown off. Caring for those around us who have experienced troubles should be
something that is actively sought to fix, not ignored. By ignoring the issue, we create an aura of
indifference to, not just human suffering, but suffering that we experience close to our homes. The
continuing existence of homelessness can be seen as a contradiction to the Building Blocks of

Wayne Williams Fiber Evidence Case Study
In the case of Wayne Williams, the fiber evidence was key in obtaining the conviction for the murders
(Imwinkelried, 1983). The fiber evidence most assuredly led to the jury s final decision of guilty,
without this evidence a case could not have been formed to display the guilt of Wayne Williams
without the shadow of a doubt. In addition to the fiber evidence, the prosecution presented hair
evidence that displayed a 98% chance of belonging to Wayne Williams as well as his German

Williams. The prosecution also presented witness testimony linking Wayne Williams to some of the
victims despite his own testimony relaying he had no contact with them. The

Ulcerative Colitis Lab Report
Inflamed tissues from Ulcerative Colitis (UC) patients show increased oxidative and nitrosative
damage, leading to accumulation of mutations and dysplastic progression27,28. Infiltrating leukocytes
from these patients have increased ROS production in basal conditions and in response to different
ligands29. Since TLR4 mediates ROS production in leukocytes22, it is easy to speculate that immune
cells drive pro tumorigenic effects of TLR4. However, bone marrow transfer experiments in our lab
demonstrate that non immune TLR4 participates in development of neoplasia8. Furthermore, we have
shown that epithelial TLR4 activation predisposes to colitis and CAC6. To understand the role of

day 56. This will allow us to study ROS production and DNA stability before the onset of neoplasia

Part of these epithelial cells will be kept for RNA isolation, part will be used for ROS determination,

Food Contamination
The Center for Disease control has estimated that illnesses directly resulting from food contamination
cause approximately 76 million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations, and 5,000 deaths each year in the
United States. The rise of food related illnesses can be mostly attributed to increased eating out. Half
of every dollar spent on food in this country is spend on food prepared outside of the home. As the
amount of people involved preparing our food rises, so does the risk of contracting an illness from
food (Levitt). The people at the greatest risk are the elderly, infants, pregnant women, and those with

The Impact Of Volcanic Eruptions On The Earth s Climate...
When examining the influence and impacts of volcanic eruptions upon the earth s climate system we
have to consider occurrences both in the present and in the past. It has been noted by McGuire et al.
that Volcanic activity and environmental change have been linked during recent times and in the
geological record. (2002:88) With thousands of volcanic events having transpired since the Archean,
there is an abundance of evidence to support the theory that volcanoes have impacted our climate for
over 2.5 Billion years. In particular, I will be looking at examples from the Permian era, where large
basaltic flood eruptions have been associated with mass extinctions and the most voluminous
explosive super eruptions have been held responsible for initiating the episodes of severe global
cooling known as volcanic winters (Rampino 1992, 1993a cited by McGuire et al 2002:88) and I will
also be looking at instances from the more recent Holocene. We are able to study their impacts
through various scientific means (such as examining northern and southern hemisphere ice cores), and
are able to explore the control they have had upon our climate in the preceding years and how they
have influenced it today. It is also necessary to explore equally the spatial and temporal scales of
volcanic eruptions and their controlling factors, to determine their effects upon the earth s climate and
how they can affect it.
One of the largest volcanic eruptions to occur in our history is the Indonesian

The Children s Book Watertower By Gary Crew And...
The children s book Watertower, by Gary Crew and illustrated by Steven Woolman, is simple when
individually read in text and illustration, but when placed together becomes unusually complex. Most
eight to twelve year olds who would read this story could find it amusing or entertaining, but when
read by someone older and wiser, they might apply past experiences to form opinions for each element
in reading the illustrations and text individually, then combined. The reader is able to construct his or
her thoughts by observing the small keys in each photo. Some of these keys are the use of color,
setting, expression and focus in the scenery and objects around.
The visuals in this story take the reader to a farm town close to an old, abandoned water tower. The
two characters mainly focused on throughout the illustration are young boys around the age of ten.
The photos showed the two boys vote to go inside the water tower for a swim when one boys decides
to go and stand on top of the tower, leaving his friend inside the eerie water by himself. When his
friend finally come up out of the water, he runs into town, climbs through a window to get inside a
house. During this time you are able to see the boy left at the tower. He sits beneath a tree waiting and
watching for his friend to return. When the boy finally makes it back to the watertown, the boys
decided to both come into town together. A few of these photos stand out to a reader when shown this

Comparing Marx s Views On Socioeconomic Status And The...
This paper is going to discuss the differences in classic theorist s views on socioeconomic status and
the level of education a person receives. To begin, let s say that the people who receive a higher level
of education tend to be higher in socioeconomic status and, therefore, the people who do not receive a
much education tend to be lower in status. Structural functionalist would say that the different levels
of education are to keep society balanced. People with less education tend to have mediocre or blue
collar jobs, while people with a higher education have more noteworthy jobs. As a society, we need
both types of people in order for society to fully function. If everyone was blessed with the
opportunity to get the highest levels of education, it would offset the equilibrium because no one
would want to do the simple yet necessary jobs. If no one did those, we would not have restaurants or
clean public restrooms. The roads would be terrible because there would be no construction workers to
maintain them. Currently, the people with a higher education depend on the less educated in order to
have the standard of living that they have now. The less educated people currently depend on the
higher educated people to require their services, whether it be serving them ... Show more content on

Chronic Conditions That Can Not Be Cured
LTC s are chronic conditions that cannot be cured but can be maintained and symptomatically
controlled with medication and therapies (World Health Organisation [WHO], 2015; Department of
Health [DOH], 2005). The management of LTC s has been implemented due to the increase in the
ageing population which in turn produces an increase in the incidence of LTC s such as diabetes,
Parkinson Disease [PD], pernicious anaemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, neurological and
heart conditions. Due to word restriction the author will discuss diabetes and Parkinson s disease.
Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person s blood sugar to become too high or too low as
the pancreas no longer produces the right amount, or any, insulin (NHS Choices, 2014). Insulin is a
hormone which is released from the pancreas, working by moving sugar from the blood into other
body tissues enabling the liver to stop producing excessive glucose. There are two main types of
diabetes, type1 and type 2. Once known as childhood diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes, type 1 is
much rarer than type 2 diabetes which occurs when the body becomes resistant to the effects of insulin
(Mayo Clinic, 2016; MedlinePlus, 2016). Symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent
urination, tiredness, long healing wounds and unexplained weight loss which occurs due to glucose
staying in the blood (Diabetes UK, 2016). If a patient develops diabetes and diet change or
medications are unable to control

Reducing and Eliminating Industrial Farms Essay
Industrial farm pollution is becoming a large problem, which is why our country should result to
organic farming. Many of today s farms are in an industrial factory rather than a nice green pasture.
These farms are looking to maximize profits and produce high quantities of food, which could
potentially be a good thing, in some certain cases, but not in this one. The industrial farms have no
concern for human health or the environment. They raise many health, environmental, and pesticide
issues, which all can be resolved with the act of organic farming. Many health issues come along with
industrial farming. Many chemicals used in agriculture are highly toxic to humans if precautions are

Unsanitary conditions in the factory farms are causing high levels of meat contamination (Ziggy). This
is a result of foodborne illnesses such as, Salmonella and Norovirus. The Center for Disease Control
estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of
foodborne diseases (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). Industrial agriculture operations are
striving to maximize their production and profit, with putting no importance on the safety and quality
of their food. Factory farming also shows no disregards to human health. Industrial farms also provoke
many environmental issues. The practices of Industrial Agriculture are harmful when it comes to
waste management. Since they have such a large amount of animals in one area is un natural, the
waste becomes uncontrollable. For instance, a swine produces about 17.5 pounds of waste each day
(Loehr 26). Put 1,000 hogs together, and that s six million pounds of waste each year. On a factory
farm containing 35,000 hogs, over four million pounds of waste are produced each week and over 200
million pounds each year. Whereas on a sustainable farm animal waste can be a tool, in factory farm
amounts it becomes a major pollutant (Sustainable Versus Industrial). All the waste that is produced
has an enormous impact on the environment. The air, water, and soil are affected in the area around
the factory farms. The manure can be beneficial in some cases, but not

Gilgamesh, The Epic Of Gilgamesh
In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh has to go through a series of hardship to obtain immortality.
Gilgamesh s determination to find immortality is impacted by the death of his best companion,
Enkidu. At the end of Gilgamesh s quest, he learns the destined fate of mortals (which is...?).
Gilgamesh s character development is shown throughout the story; he changes from an invincible,
fearless king to a king who has accept his mortality and sees his own limitations. Although the quest
of Gilgamesh seems to focus on gaining immortality, it works as a bridge to help Gilgamesh accept his
mortality and to understand that immortality is not achieved by the length of life, but by the stories
that s pass on. In the beginning (beginning of what? the epic? the quest?), Gilgamesh seeks
immortality because he wants to live forever. After Gilgamesh witnesses the death of Enkidu,
Gilgamesh becomes afraid of death himself. many direct parallels are shown throughout the story to
justify the reasoning behind Gilgamesh s fear of death. Enkidu often acts as an equal companion of
Gilgamesh; Gilgamesh is born with a mixture of human and divine, while Enkidu is a mixture of
human and wild beast. Although there is a difference in their status, their ability and strength are still
the same. Gilgamesh is perfect in strength (Tablet I, Line 36) and Enkidu is the mightiest in the land
(I,117). When Gilgamesh sees someone, who has been through every hardship with him and is equal

The Bible Is Not A Children s Book Essay
The Bible is not a children s book. Not only is it beyond the length and reading level appropriate for
younger audiences, it often covers what some parents might consider inappropriate topics. Imagine
finding an illustrated children s bible containing graphic stories about talking to ghosts or children
being burned alive as sacrifices to God. These are troubling stories that actually appear within the
Hebrew Bible, which even some adults may feel uncomfortable discussing. Academic scholarship of
the Bible, however, should not be influenced by such discomfort. This has led a handful of scholars to
study these death related experiences within ancient Israelite contexts. The last thirty years have
revealed at least two contemporary topics of conversations between scholars within this subfield:
necromancy and child sacrifice among ancient Israelite religion. Typically, dialogue about ancient
Israelites is framed among the broader beliefs and practices of peoples from the surrounding
geographical region including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and other ancient peoples; these topics are
no exception. While, there is also no consensus among modern scholars, the majority of academics
appear to accept both child sacrifice and necromancy as a historical practice belonging to the worship
of Yahweh. Nonetheless, these scholars continue to do so with varying degrees of beliefs about the
particular conditions during which these controversial customs were performed.

The Most Important Part Of Prescribing An Exercise Program
Exercise Assessment The most important part of prescribing an exercise program is the proper
assessment of the client to ensure they are physically, mentally, and healthy enough to engage in a
certain type of program. With any female client 55 years of age or older, risk for cardiovascular
disease (CVD) should always be assessed. This will help determine how to properly proceed with the
development of an exercise program. According to the ACSM s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and
Prescription, reviewing health and medical history is the first step in assessing risk for CVD
(American College of Sports Medicine, 2014). If there is a known disease this puts a person at an

A normal BMI range is 18.5 24.9; less than 18.5 is underweight; 25 29.9 is overweight; and greater
than or equal to 30 is considered obese. These values are important to remember and keeping in mind
those with a low BMI (less than 18.5) greatly increases their risk for fractures in the pelvis and ribs
(Compston et al., 2014) .
After assessing an individual s health status and risk for CVD, as well as gathering anthropometric
data, getting more specific with evaluating specific risks related to osteoporosis would be the next
step. With individuals who have osteoporosis, assessing their risk for falls and fractures are two very
important objectives to developing an exercise prescription. A low BMI may tell you that an
individual is at an increased risk but there is much more that should be considered in this assessment
process. Knowing the history of a client is important and understanding that with any type of previous
fracture will also automatically increase the individual s risk for reoccurring fractures. Also, by simply
looking at someone s standing stance can be an indicator as well, if their stance is narrower there is a
better chance of losing balance and if the stance is wider the person will be more stable. I one year

How Does Maggie Vandermeer Use Social Media
Maggie Vandermeer dwells in a contemporary society where proficiency in regards to social media is
a rather dominant feature, especially in her search for a job and as an attempt to conform. As Maggie
is not familiar with such social media s, especially in comparison to the younger generation, this

Although Maggie routinely uses her cell phone to text or tweet, she has not yet integrated herself to
this contemporary society, as the younger generation is remarkably adept with social media.
Moreover, Maggie isn t conversant with the proper norms that belong to social media. For example, at
the beginning of the story, Maggie is woken up by her daughter, Lacey Vandermeer, who sends her a

interactions, rather than communication with some sort of social media. This preference differentiates
her from the younger generation, as they tend to prefer communicating through social media. For
example, When Lacey suggests how she does not need to come over, Maggie insists on the value of
face to face interaction. The point was to have a visit with you, Maggie says (Cullen, 36). When

leaving out General Hancock, a major player in the beginning of the Civil War. This causes questions
about there importance and if they were fighting for the proper reasons. A lot is left to the imagination
about the North. The Southerners are all represented well and thoroughly throughout the film. Lee is
portrayed as a very kind hearted religious old man who has the respect of his troops and is out to win
this war. Jackson is given the most glory as this film includes him in almost every other scene. He is
also given a great light of respect from his troops and all around him. Even Jeb Stuart, who in real life

The Importance Of Ghost In The White House
Is there really ghost in the White House? We will never know, but after all of the research we have
done, first ladies have said they have seen ghosts in the White House. This is a really important
subject to study because if there is really ghost in the White House that would be kind of creepy.
Especially if you were the president living in the White House at the time and you saw old presidents
in the White House. For example, the most popular ghost in the White House was Abe Lincoln and he
was found in the oval office room. I believe that there are ghosts in the White House. And I would not
want to live in the White House. The reasons why I believe there is, is because some presidents died in
the White House, the White House burnt down and they believe that in a picture of the white house
burnt down that there was a guy holding a torch and it was really clear so it did look like a ghost and
my last reason why I believe that there are ghost in the White House is because after all of the research
we have done people have said that lots of people have witnessed different ghosts. A lot of people
have witnessed these ghost in the White House. The first lady that first saw the ghost was Grace

Nullification Theory Of Nullification
The theory of Nullification is no more than people not getting what they want. Andrew Jackson,
former president, vetoed twelve congressional bills. Citizens thought he was willing to transform the
country into a monarchy. Because of how he took charge of the Nullification crisis in South Carolina,
there was no doubt that Jackson only wanted the best for the people. He always thought that the
president should represent all of the people, and he did when he used all of his presidential powers to
warn the nullifiers to stop (Shi and Tindall 438).
Meanwhile, John Calhoun, former vice president, did not like how Andrew Jackson was handling the
economy in his home state, South Carolina. An awful depression had increased since 1819, and South
Carolina suffered all throughout the 1920s because of the cotton prices (Shi and Tindall 438). South
Carolina lost almost 70,000 people during the collapse that lasted almost 10 years, this happened
because residents wanted to spend less money on growing their cotton, more people would eventually
leave by 1930 with this disaster happening.
The tariff of 1828, also known as Tariff of Abomination, had the southerners wondering if that was the
problem after all. By taxing British cloth coming into U.S. markets, the tariff hurt southern cotton
growers by reducing British demand for raw cotton from America. (Shi and Tindall 439). The debate
was that the north and the south were having different needs to make their economy a successful one;

The Language Of English As A Language
English as a language has been designated as having a global ranking (Crystal 1997), (Northrup 2013),
(Mckenzie 2010). A language that is deemed as having a global status is clarified by Crystal (2003,
p.3) as one that achieves a genuinely global status when it develops a special role that is recognised in
every country . Due to this prestigious standing that English has attained, it is unsurprising that many
are keen to acquire it across the world. This is also supported by Wyse, Andrews and Hoffman (2010,
P.398) who state English is much more favoured over the other official languages as a second
language . As many learners are acquiring English in the context of a second or foreign language, the
discussion over utilising the learner s first language in the process remains a contentious subject
(Brown, 2000). This assignment will provide an overview of perceptions from differing approaches in
regards to the use of the L1 in language education, along with arguments in support and against the
same.
Background of L1 in language teaching.
The precise role that can be played by the learner s first language (L1) in the process of acquiring a
second language has not been explicitly agreed upon. However, the issue of whether to utilise the L1
in the classroom has remained at the forefront in the English language teaching arena. Mattioli (2004,
P.21) highlights that most teachers tend to have opinions about native language use, this can depend
largely on their training and in

Foodies Forward believes that all families should have the right to fresh and nutritious food and be
able to cook healthy yet affordable meals. Its mission is to educate and empower families of
underserved communities in Central Texas through cooking. Foodies Forward aims to help families
develop healthy eating habits promote family closeness, and inspire them to become agents of change
by fighting food scarcity issues in their community. Cook Healthier is Foodies Forward s weekly after
school program, which teaches students healthy eating practices as well as provides a space for them
to cook healthy and affordable meals. Furthermore, students will take what they learn from the Cook
Healthier program as well as groceries from the Foodies kitchen and share and practice cooking with
their family.
Although there are many agencies in the Central Texas area that look to fight against food scarcity
such as food pantries, food centers, and community gardens, there are only few organizations that
provide free cooking classes and groceries, and focus its work on the youth and their families. For
example, the Sustainable Food Center in Austin delivers free cooking classes for those who live in
communities facing health disparities and provides groceries after class for participants to practice at
home. However, the Sustainable Food Center does not directly focus its services to youth (Sustainable
Food Center, n.d.). Urban Roots Farm is an organization, which

Reaction Paper On Forgiveness
ChapterI
Introduction
Forgiveness
Generally, forgiveness is a decision to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. The act that hurt
or offended us always remain a part of our life, but forgiveness can lessen its grip on you and help you
focus on other, more positive parts of your life. Forgiveness can even lead to feelings of
understanding, empathy and compassion for the one who hurt us.
Forgiveness doesn t mean that we deny the other person s responsibility for hurting us, and it doesn t
minimize or justify the wrong. We can forgive the person without excusing the act. Forgiveness is a
process that involves a change in emotion and attitude regarding an offender. Most scholars view this
an intentional and voluntary process, driven by a deliberate decision to forgive. Theorists differ in the
extent to which they believe forgiveness also implies replacing the negative emotions with positive
attitudes including compassion and benevolence. In any event, forgiveness occurs with the victim s
full recognition that he or she deserved better treatment, one reason why Mahatma Gandhi contended
that the weak can never forgive. Adapted from Philpot, C. (2006). Intergroup apologies and
forgiveness. Unpublished PhD thesis, University of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Black Church Attack
With the changing landscape occurring in this county, it appears the church, in particular, the black
church has come under attack again. Attacking the church and communities it serve is nothing new.
Burning and bombing of churches have been a part of America s fabric since enslaved and freed
Africans began to embrace Christianity. The killing of its members is even more common. However,
the recent episodes of violence suggest a rebuking of laws and human rights, which shapes the country
s recent paradigm.
Not since the sixties have there been a level of events across the nation where predominantly black
populated churches and its membership have come under attack at such an alarming magnitude. Why
is this so, is it fear, frustration, ignorance or just hate. The attacking of the church and its members, as
in yesteryear seems to be reawakening the church activism. The resolution of the church is unyielding,
but after all these centuries and decades; these same types of attackers have not figured that out. The
attacks in South Carolina and the likes are fostering an unbending commitment to push forward ... led
by faith.
Moreover, as a result of unthinkable acts against citizen of this country, a new movement is afoot,
manifested out of a continuance of racism, police brutality, ongoing voice suppression, discrimination,

Dr. Jamal Bryant, Senior Pastor of Empowerment Temple, Baltimore and Rev. Nelson B. Rivers III,

It displays the common quest yesterday and today that true equality, opportunity and basic human

The Enron and Worldcom scandals, for example, helped investor confidence in entities traded on the public markets weaken during 2001 and 2002. Congress was quick to respond to the political crisis and enacted the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, which was signed into law by President Bush on July 30 (Edward Jones, 1), to restore investor confidence. A case Study is a process or record of research into the development of a particular group over a period of time. I am writing this Case Study for the purpose of researching and analyzing how a company like Volkswagen, which was named no. 8 on Forbes fortune 500 list in 2014, could be involved in one of the biggest scandals in this decade. Volkswagen group sells passenger cars under Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche, Seat, Škoda and of course Volkswagen itself and is one of the biggest car manufacturers in the World. Unfortunately in 2015 it emerged that Volkswagen was involved in unlawful practice regarding their diesel cars not meeting emission standards and how they tried to rectify this problem in an unlawful manner. My paper will be divided into two key parts: The Case Study and The Case Analysis. In the case study I will give an overview of what happened in the Volkswagen emissions scandal, which is still ongoing, I will give a background and context to all the key parties involved and then depict the key events that shape this scandal. The Dove brand was established in 1957 in the U.S. introducing its new innovative cleansing bar and now with various products such as deodorants, lotions and hair products, the brand has rooted itself to listen to women. Under the protection of Unilever, Dove has certainly made its mark and has gained immense success especially when competing along 400 brands. However there are only 14 brands, including Dove, which generate sales in excess of €1 billion a year (Unilever, 2015). The first stage of the campaign, which was launched in 2004, targeted women through the use of billboard advertisements (see Figure 1). Since then, the campaign has expanded from billboards to television ads and its online videos have gone viral. Using the tagline Imagine a World Where Beauty is a Source of Confidence, Not Anxiety , the campaign instigated a global conversation about the need for a broader definition of beauty. The reason for this was due to the findings found by The Real Truth About Beauty: A Global Report , which showed that only 2% of women around the world describe themselves as beautiful however when the report was revisited this had increased to 4% (Dove, ... Collectivism, like individualism, has two extremes ranging from willing cooperation at one end to a grudging acceptance at the other (Farnham D, 1993, p36 7) It is important to understand that no company is strictly individualist or collectivist and the links between the two employee relations are not incompatible with each other. Overall, BA has the collectivist approach because large emphasis is on the group. One such example is the nurturing of cabin crew. Families of staff are created to work the same shift patterns. This was pursued to encourage mutual support, make cabin crew feel comfortable about their working environment, and as a result, facilitate the production of emotional labour (I Grugulis and A Wilkinson, 2001, p13). #61656; Unitary or pluralist management styles? While the older generations viewed fighting in the war as a civic duty and a true testament to what it meant to be an American , the counterculture did not share this belief. Regardless of how anyone felt about the war, it had escalated to epic proportions and as one citizen put it, It was on our mind every single hour of the day (PBS CITE). Vietnam was the first war ever to be televised, and with that came constant coverage and a growing concern from young Americans. In addition, the military draft made matters worse by forced the youth America to fight. By 1968, the war in Vietnam had claimed over 15,000 American lives (CITE PBS). Between the draft and the growing American casualties, greater tension in the US was created. Young Americans had to ask themselves if the war was worth fighting. Opposition to the draft and draft evasion was the central plot element in Hair with Claude s indecision of whether or not to serve his country in Vietnam a war he does not believe in (Young, 1993, p. 71). Claude represent most of the youth of America and their confusion which was ignited by the war. His internal conflict is depicted in the song Where do I Go : Where do I go/ Follow the children (...) • 11. Understand The Effect Of Solar Plasma On Earth s... 2nd P: To understand the effects of solar plasma on Earth s magnetosphere, one must look at the creation of plasma in the early days of the sun. The sun s creation is similar to the process in the explosion of a hydrogen bomb, only with the energy created equaling the force of 10 billion hydrogen bombs per second. When the sun was originally forming, hydrogen gas in the middle was crushed from weight above. Eventually, the pressures and temperatures reached such an intense point to where the hydrogen atoms broke apart into electrons and photons, thus, creating plasma. Photons from the explosion of electrons and protons are made so fast and so many at a time that it creates the observed power of the sun. This reaches us as sunlight. Even though the process of the energy created is relatively quick, the process in which the photons travel to Earth happens over a long time within the Sun s layers. The energy of sunlight that shines down on us today is over 100,000 years 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall movement and rotation of the sun effect the magnetic fields in the sun. This movement churns up plasma in the convection zone*, which in turn stirs up electrical currents, and finally creates a magnetic field. Within these magnetic fields exists field lines, the main component of the solar flares. Loops in the magnetic field lines rise with energy from the surface. On one end of the loop exists a positive while the other end is negative. Plasma underneath stirs the poles and pumps numerous amounts of energy into them. However, if the poles are twisted enough the loops cross which creates a short circuit resulting in a tremendous outward explosion. The result is a solar flare. Within these solar flares, nets of plasma are flung into space and can be described as coronal mass ejections (solar storms). Hearing Loss Intervention In today s time, there is a need for new prevention, assessment, and intervention strategies for adults experiencing hearing loss accompanied by, or at risk for, dementia (Pichora Fuller, 2015). Research has found that individuals with hearing loss are at risk for developing dementia, and dementia is also more prevalent in individuals with dementia. Patients with dementia are recognized at different stages, and the Pichora Fuller questions the possibility of earlier and better health care slowing the progression of, or even completely deterring, dementia. Often, those with high cognitive abilities are involved in social activities, some type of physical activities, may be a musician, or possess good cognitive skills, such as being bilingual. However, one thing that always pales in comparison to these traits sports. Looking at cites like New York, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles all have successful sports teams, whether they be football, basketball, or baseball. Charlotte in recent years has seen flashes of success but has never seen a consistent winner like other large cities in the America. Since Charlotte established sports teams, they have suffered from years of mediocrity because of a lack of star talent. One reason Carolina Panthers are seen as mediocre in sports is because of the lack talented stars that they can build on. The Carolina Panthers had a couple of Pro Bowl caliber players over the years, like Julius Peppers and Steve Smith, but over time the Panthers rid themselves of both players. When both players left, many fans turned against the franchise and became fans of other teams. For example, Charlotte now became a conglomerate of NFL teams. This can be justified through different movements in history, such as the enlightenment age, or the romanticism era. Except that being original and innovative can help move a species into a more efficient production lifestyle, as Aldus Huxley Shows in, Brave New World of how such a trait can create a whole new world for the people living within, as well as how the same ability can be easily taken away. Though multiple studies prove, Schools with long standing art programs have higher graduation rates. In many instances, art classes motivate students to stay in school, especially low achieving students, by fostering closer ties with peers and creating community oriented environments (Metla). Showing, how schools with art programs can serve as a motivation for a student s need for success. Not only do programs like art or music motivate, but classes taught at college levels also show how subjects like, The humanities teach something. Their subject matter is culture, and since everything human beings do is mediated by culture by language, by representations, by systems of values and beliefs knowing how to understand other languages, interpret cultural expressions, and evaluate belief systems is as indispensable to functioning effectively in the professional world as knowing how to use a computer. This knowledge may or may not make you a better person; it can certainly make you more productive and successful in the workplace (Menand). To which, undoubtedly justifies the importance of classes like the humanities, because there is basic knowledge that can be learned and applied to one s life. Furthermore showing how many Schools across the country have faced budget shortfalls in recent years, a common cost cutting measure is to slash funding for arts education, prioritizing what are deemed more essential subjects such as math, reading, and science (Fang). If the government wanted to they could monitor your internet use. While this could be helpful it is also harmful. I do not think the government should be able to monitor your internet use, unless they have a reason to. While monitoring internet content does not violate any of the amendment it is an invasion of privacy. Most young adults and teens only use the internet as means of communicating. It does not harm anyone in any way. While most people are using internet for good, some people may not be. There are many cases of cyber bullying that could be going on, and adults may not know. Since cyber bullying is becoming a bigger issue as technology advances, and certain apps come out that could be used for bullying it could be helpful to be able to monitor internet use. The previously forgotten vision of Alexander Hamilton was reborn and finally implemented. America was no longer the land of the yeoman farmer. Cartoon by Horace Taylor, The Verdict, Sept. 25, 1899 Horace Taylor puts his opinion into prospective with this political cartoon. Businesses became more powerful than the government itself, which was too afraid to interfere in the exploitation. One such exploitation was the creation of corporation. Corporations were designed to limit the liabilities of its shareholders and thusly minimize the loss of capital by criminalizing only the legal entity, rather than its underlying workers. Thusly, legal suits and such became nearly useless against the incorporated. Additionally, as corporations grew unchecked, they found other ways to control competition. The railroad industry, the first big business of America, used pools and rebates to maximize profit but decrease competition – a principal not part of capitalism. Progress was slowed by the lack of competition, but the pursuit of wealth helped maintain it or a time. The trust was similar to a pool, but trusts were far more hierarchal and were used by corporations rather than regions. When examining the influence and impacts of volcanic eruptions upon the earth s climate system we have to consider occurrences both in the present and in the past. It has been noted by McGuire et al. that Volcanic activity and environmental change have been linked during recent times and in the geological record. (2002:88) With thousands of volcanic events having transpired since the Archean, there is an abundance of evidence to support the theory that volcanoes have impacted our climate for over 2.5 Billion years. In particular, I will be looking at examples from the Permian era, where large basaltic flood eruptions have been associated with mass extinctions and the most voluminous explosive super eruptions have been held responsible for initiating the episodes of severe global cooling known as volcanic winters (Rampino 1992, 1993a cited by McGuire et al 2002:88) and I will also be looking at instances from the more recent Holocene. We are able to study their impacts through various scientific means (such as examining northern and southern hemisphere ice cores), and are able to explore the control they have had upon our climate in the preceding years and how they have influenced it today. It is also necessary to explore equally the spatial and temporal scales of volcanic eruptions and their controlling factors, to determine their effects upon the earth s climate and how they can affect it. The children s book Watertower, by Gary Crew and illustrated by Steven Woolman, is simple when individually read in text and illustration, but when placed together becomes unusually complex. Most eight to twelve year olds who would read this story could find it amusing or entertaining, but when read by someone older and wiser, they might apply past experiences to form opinions for each element in reading the illustrations and text individually, then combined. The reader is able to construct his or her thoughts by observing the small keys in each photo. Some of these keys are the use of color, setting, expression and focus in the scenery and objects around. The visuals in this story take the reader to a farm town close to an old, abandoned water tower. The two characters mainly focused on throughout the illustration are young boys around the age of ten. This paper is going to discuss the differences in classic theorist s views on socioeconomic status and the level of education a person receives. To begin, let s say that the people who receive a higher level of education tend to be higher in socioeconomic status and, therefore, the people who do not receive a much education tend to be lower in status. Structural functionalist would say that the different levels of education are to keep society balanced. People with less education tend to have mediocre or blue collar jobs, while people with a higher education have more noteworthy jobs. As a society, we need both types of people in order for society to fully function. If everyone was blessed with the opportunity to get the highest levels of education, it would offset the equilibrium because no one would want to do the simple yet necessary jobs. If no one did those, we would not have restaurants or clean public restrooms. The roads would be terrible because there would be no construction workers to maintain them. The management of LTC s has been implemented due to the increase in the ageing population which in turn produces an increase in the incidence of LTC s such as diabetes, Parkinson Disease [PD], pernicious anaemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, neurological and heart conditions. Due to word restriction the author will discuss diabetes and Parkinson s disease. Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person s blood sugar to become too high or too low as the pancreas no longer produces the right amount, or any, insulin (NHS Choices, 2014). Insulin is a hormone which is released from the pancreas, working by moving sugar from the blood into other body tissues enabling the liver to stop producing excessive glucose. There are two main types of diabetes, type1 and type 2. Once known as childhood diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes, type 1 is much rarer than type 2 diabetes which occurs when the body becomes resistant to the effects of insulin (Mayo Clinic, 2016; MedlinePlus, 2016). Symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent urination, tiredness, long healing wounds and unexplained weight loss which occurs due to glucose staying in the blood (Diabetes UK, 2016). Gilgamesh s character development is shown throughout the story; he changes from an invincible, fearless king to a king who has accept his mortality and sees his own limitations. Although the quest of Gilgamesh seems to focus on gaining immortality, it works as a bridge to help Gilgamesh accept his mortality and to understand that immortality is not achieved by the length of life, but by the stories that s pass on. Imagine finding an illustrated children s bible containing graphic stories about talking to ghosts or children being burned alive as sacrifices to God. These are troubling stories that actually appear within the Hebrew Bible, which even some adults may feel uncomfortable discussing. Academic scholarship of the Bible, however, should not be influenced by such discomfort. This has led a handful of scholars to study these death related experiences within ancient Israelite contexts. The last thirty years have revealed at least two contemporary topics of conversations between scholars within this subfield: necromancy and child sacrifice among ancient Israelite religion. Typically, dialogue about ancient Israelites is framed among the broader beliefs and practices of peoples from the surrounding geographical region including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and other ancient peoples; these topics are no exception. While, there is also no consensus among modern scholars, the majority of academics appear to accept both child sacrifice and necromancy as a historical practice belonging to the worship of Yahweh. Nonetheless, these scholars continue to do so with varying degrees of beliefs about the particular conditions during which these controversial customs were performed. ... • 43. Nullification Theory Of Nullification The theory of Nullification is no more than people not getting what they want. Andrew Jackson, former president, vetoed twelve congressional bills. Citizens thought he was willing to transform the country into a monarchy. Because of how he took charge of the Nullification crisis in South Carolina, there was no doubt that Jackson only wanted the best for the people. He always thought that the president should represent all of the people, and he did when he used all of his presidential powers to warn the nullifiers to stop (Shi and Tindall 438). Meanwhile, John Calhoun, former vice president, did not like how Andrew Jackson was handling the economy in his home state, South Carolina. An awful depression had increased since 1819, and South Carolina suffered all throughout the 1920s because of the cotton prices (Shi and Tindall 438). South Carolina lost almost 70,000 people during the collapse that lasted almost 10 years, this happened because residents wanted to spend less money on growing their cotton, more people would eventually leave by 1930 with this disaster happening. The tariff of 1828, also known as Tariff of Abomination, had the southerners wondering if that was the problem after all. By taxing British cloth coming into U.S. markets, the tariff hurt southern cotton growers by reducing British demand for raw cotton from America. (Shi and Tindall 439). The debate was that the north and the south were having different needs to make their economy a successful one; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Language Of English As A Language English as a language has been designated as having a global ranking (Crystal 1997), (Northrup 2013), (Mckenzie 2010). A language that is deemed as having a global status is clarified by Crystal (2003, p.3) as one that achieves a genuinely global status when it develops a special role that is recognised in every country . Due to this prestigious standing that English has attained, it is unsurprising that many are keen to acquire it across the world. This is also supported by Wyse, Andrews and Hoffman (2010, P.398) who state English is much more favoured over the other official languages as a second language . As many learners are acquiring English in the context of a second or foreign language, the discussion over utilising the learner s first language in the process remains a contentious subject (Brown, 2000). This assignment will provide an overview of perceptions from differing approaches in regards to the use of the L1 in language education, along with arguments in support and against the same. Background of L1 in language teaching. The precise role that can be played by the learner s first language (L1) in the process of acquiring a second language has not been explicitly agreed upon. However, the issue of whether to utilise the L1 in the classroom has remained at the forefront in the English language teaching arena. • 48. Reaction Paper On Forgiveness ChapterI Introduction Forgiveness Generally, forgiveness is a decision to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. The act that hurt or offended us always remain a part of our life, but forgiveness can lessen its grip on you and help you focus on other, more positive parts of your life. Forgiveness can even lead to feelings of understanding, empathy and compassion for the one who hurt us. Forgiveness doesn t mean that we deny the other person s responsibility for hurting us, and it doesn t minimize or justify the wrong. We can forgive the person without excusing the act. Forgiveness is a process that involves a change in emotion and attitude regarding an offender. Most scholars view this an intentional and voluntary process, driven by a deliberate decision to forgive. Theorists differ in the extent to which they believe forgiveness also implies replacing the negative emotions with positive attitudes including compassion and benevolence.
