He came up with some good answers to put in the diagram, and he wrote it all himself. He used the
book to help him spell the words out, but he had excellent penmanship and never wrote any of his
letters backwards.
Section 2: Child s Literacy Knowledge Looking at the QRI 6 passage, Brakke is a good reader. He
didn t miss any of the words, and for being a first grader, 75 WPM seems decently fast to me. There
were no hesitations when reading the passage either. When I asked him the concept questions, it was
just the first question that he didn t know or didn t want to answer. The question was, What is a Mom?
and he just kept on saying, I don t know. I think maybe he just didn t want to say the wrong thing or
didn t think he had a good enough answer, so he didn t want to say. The other two questions, though,
he answered just fine, so he understood those. After asking him to retell the story to me, he provided
half of the answers listed down, so I can tell that he comprehends and remembers what he reads,
because most of the ones that he did miss were just repeats of saying, Just like Mom, and he only said
that once, which is awesome that he remembered to at least say it one time. He also did a great job
answering the other five questions after reading the passage, which were comprehension questions. He

This assimilation through making all the documents to be in the English language will then encourage
and make people to put more incentive to learn English to promote a common culture. This will in
turn eliminate the diversity that America enjoys making other language and culture appear inferior or
second to English culture. This is where I have a problem, expecting everyone to assimilate into one
culture. Cultural backgrounds are part of what America is today. Why should we not promote and
celebrate them even to the point of forming enclaves? As long as people are willing to respect the laws
of the land, I don t see a problem with this. And I don t know of any language based racial and ethnic
conflicts that have taken place in the U.S.

Promoting English to be the national language helps to empower the immigrant by incorporating them
to the American system of education and making them to develop the American ideology to fit in
America society well. I have to say America may have been founded by people who spoke many
different langues but those coming to America or those that existed before English became a dominant
language need to learn English to survive. Affluence in the English language makes it easy to get a
good job and become more productive members of the society.
