Electronic Surveillance And Its Historical Context
The first part of this paper framed FISA in its historical context. The 1978 Act initially enacted dealt
only with electronic surveillance. It provided a statutory framework for collection of foreign
intelligence information through the use of electronic surveillance of communications of foreign
powers or agents of foreign powers. However, the Congress amended the act in 1995 and 1999 to
provide a statutory framework for gathering foreign intelligence information through the use of
electronic surveillance, physical searches, pen registers or trap and trace devices, access to business
records and other tangible things. In sum, FISA grants broader authority than the Crime Control Act,
but under a narrower range of circumstances. To limit the abuse of the Executive power that led to its
passage, FISA also established the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Courts (FISC). The FISC
requires the government to submit an application to obtain a surveillance warrant to a specially
appointed FISA judge. Moreover, since the FISA warrant is secret, the government in order to benefit
from this higher level of secrecy bears a burden of showing that there is probable cause to believe the
target is a foreign power and that the targeted information relates to the ability of the United States to
protect against spying or terrorism. However, to address changing circumstances after the terrorist
attacks of September 911, Congress has repeatedly amended FISA to adapt to the fight against

Individuality In The Pedestrian And Fahrenheit 451 By Ray...
In life, it is commonly stated that A man who doesn t think for himself, does not think at all. This
statement is supported in The Pedestrian and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In Fahrenheit 451 the
main character finds himself bound to the expectations of society and robotically follows every order
that is given to him without second thoughts. This leads to him being unknowingly unhappy and
having a hollow existence. But as the story progressed the main character became more aware of the
person that he truly was, and when he had finally discovered that person, he was truly happy. On the
contrary, In The Pedestrian a lone individual who is different from society is able to think for himself,
thus giving him freedom from the bonds of society and the ability to embrace his individuality.
Making him free and happy. In both stories, we see how individuality releases people from the
shackles of their society and finally allows them to be truly happy with who they are. In the novel

The tombs, ill lit by television light, where the people sat like the dead, the gray or multicolored lights
touching their faces, but never really touching them (Bradbury 2). Leonard Mead describes the state
that the people are living in great detail to convey their lifeless state. He says that the tombs were ill lit
by television light. Tombs are usually the graves of the dead, and as the house is dark, it usually means
that it lacks life. Leonard Mead then says how the light wasn t really touching the people, this conveys
that they were basically transparent and the light just went through them like they were ghosts. This
describes the lifeless trance that the entire society was in as they lacked individuality thus robbing
them of their free

Comparing Eternal Life In Anne Bradstreet And Jonathan...
In the 1600 a group of 8 immagrants came in that was named the puritans. They immagrated from
England to America. They were some very religous people and they thought they were just the best
christians that were put on the earth. Anne Bradstreet and Jonathan Edwards were both puritans, their
distinctive writings and persuasive tactics differ greatly. Anne Bradstreet poem really shows the
eternal life and religous belief. The eternal life in this poem showed that god was running everything
and that he has his hands on it. Bradstreet poem really was a good puritan poem. In this poem the lady

Mismatch Between Limbic System
There is a mismatch between when the limbic system starts to mature and when the prefrontal cortex
starts to mature. The limbic system starts at the onset of puberty and with it starting at an earlier age
today the gap between when the limbic system matures and the prefrontal cortex matures is getting
larger making the window for risky behavior longer than it was before.
Since adolescent brain has the ability to change in response to the environment by modifying the
communications networks that connect brain regions, those changes make them vulnerable to
dangerous behaviors and mental disorders.
The increase in connectivity among brain regions is indicated as greater volumes of white matter from
childhood through adulthood. Which is the fatty

Violation Of Social Norms In The Classroom
According to National Post Ben Fields, a school resource officer at Spring Valley High School has
been fired for using unnecessary force to remove a student from the classroom. Videos taken by the
students in the classroom show Deputy Fields asking the student to leave; upon refusal, the officer is
seen wrapping his forearm around the student s neck and flipping her while she was still sitting in her
desk. The female student is then dragged, tossed across the room and finally handcuffed while
students watch. According to students, the female student was on her cell phone in class. After a
teacher and administrator were unable to get the student to hand over her cell phone or leave the
classroom, Fields was called. A classmate quoted the female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The actions of Fields can be seen as a violation of a social norm. It is abnormal for a police officer to
use excessive force on a student who is posing no immediate threat, especially on a young student.
County Sheriff Lott has stated the forced used on the student was not part of training or normal
protocol ( It just makes you sick , 2015). The concept of social norm and subjective construal can be
seen. Construal is the way an individual views, understands, and interprets the social world to be. In
subjective construal, although the situation is the same, there are opposing views on the way the
people involved view, understand, and interpret the situation (Droogendyk, 2015). According to
Antrobus, Bradford, Murphy, and Sargeant (2015) obeying the police is strongly associated with an
individuals own feelings about obeying the police and their ties to the community. An individual who
does not feel a strong tie to the community, in this case the school environment, would feel fewer
obligations to obey. In the article, the female student made it clear that she will not hand over her cell
phone or leave the classroom because she did not do anything wrong. However, according to the
teacher and administrator the student did and therefore needed to be removed. Fields shared this view
and seemed to think not only should the student be removed but also force was necessary. The
different opposing views demonstrate subject construal and how both parties think they are

Kill A Mockingbird Racism
In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, there is much racism and discrimination. Racism is
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the
belief that one s own race is superior (Dictionary.com). To Kill A Mockingbird, takes place in the deep
south of the United States of America during the 1930 s. The main character is named Jean Louise
Finch, but most people call her Scout. Atticus Finch is Scout s father. The family s maid is named is
Calpurnia. Calpurnia is African American women. Even though many people were racist during the

##ethical Analysis Of God Is Dead By Friedrich Nietzsche
I was really confused when I first stumbled across reading this quote. I didn t really understand what
Nietzsche was saying from the phrase God is dead . After talking with my classmates and doing some
research I got a better understanding about the quote. Most people didn t understand it like me at first
and they thought Nietzsche interpreted in a literal death or end of God. I think Nietzsche says this
quote because he was an atheist and he had a different perspective about God which he never even
believed in. Most people believe that God is all knowing and powerful so he or she can t die. The
understanding I got from this quote is that I think Nietzsche is trying to say that is not relevant to
people anymore meaning that people don t care. Friedrich Nietzsche is a well known philosopher who
influenced many topics in the world and was not really a fan of religion.
This quote is widely known by everyone and it is first shown in his 1882 collection The Gay Science .
The phrase God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him can have many meanings to
different people. I interpreted this phrase by thinking that people don t care about and no more have a
use for God. In a sense Nietzsche is saying that large and consistent moral theories could exist without
reference to God. For example, Europe no longer needed God as the source for all morality, value, or
order in the universe. By that I mean philosophy and science was capable of doing that for us. As the

people did not want to support another exposition where he would find nothing. Many didn t know

Homosexuality In Alfred Hitchcock s Film
As Hitchcock s career took him to Hollywood, in 1939, as did his productions take him into dealing
with different issues as previously had been featured in his films. Amongst the controversial few,
homosexuality was a topic subtly explored. At the time of production, the Motion Picture Production
Code forbade the depiction or any direct reference to homosexuality. In addition, the United States had
a universally poor view on homosexuals, much due to the fact that homosexuality was considered a
mental disorder, until 1974, by psychiatrists. Even still, Hitchcock took the public s viewpoint and
capitalized on that within many of his films to exploit homosexuals in a negative fashion. The Motion
Picture Production Code, at least from 1930 to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first glance, yes, it is true that he did not represent homosexuals in a positive light rarely ever (and
if he did, the characters were not important or completely relevant to the story line.) But, out of all of
this, it could be argued in some way that Hitchcock could definitely have been a homosexual himself.
Hitchcock is credited with saying, You know, if I hadn t met Alma at the right time, I could have
become a [homosexual]. It has been noted that a young Hitchcock had an affinity towards The Picture
of Dorian Gray. This novel, by Oscar Wilde, is said to have influenced Hitchcock s directing in a way
that no other work of literature had or ever would. Quotes from Hitchcock, such as, Everything s
perverted in a different way, and, Each man kills the thing he loves, all relate back to the classic Oscar
Wilde ideals. Of course, it is known that Oscar Wilde was a homosexual man and lead one to gather
that because Hitchcock was so taken with Wilde s novel, that Hitchcock s interest in homosexuality
stemmed beyond that of a heterosexual male. Hitchcock blatantly expressed, as quoted above, the
possibility that he was not heterosexual. In addition, he also believed in the fact that perversion was a
universal school of thought. Homosexuality, being a perversion, then was validated in his eyes as
being something completely normal. To attempt to analyze Hitchcock from a

Silver Chromate Lab Report
This experiment was performed to observe the formation of silver chromate from a reaction between
silver nitrate and potassium chromate. In this double displacement reaction, the cations and anions of
the two reactants swapped and produced silver chromate and potassium chromate. An indication of a
reaction occurring between the silver nitrate and potassium chromate was the production of a red solid
from the yellow potassium chromate and the clear silver nitrate. Potassium nitrate has its uses in
applications such as fertilizers and food preservation while the other product of this reaction, silver
chromate, has little application in the real world. Introduction: The reaction between silver nitrate and

One of the Best Shots Ever Essay
One of the Best Shots Ever
The soft moon rock jumped off the face of the club, as I moved through impact. All I saw was the
perfect arch of the rock as it hurled through the air and over a small rock infested river that runs in
front of the oblong green. I had just pulled off one of the best shots ever in my golf career.
It all started on a brisk August morning. That day I had to get up before the first rays of the sun could
be noticed on the horizon. I awoke to the droning sound of my green digital alarm clock, and
immediately jumped into a hot steaming shower to wake me up from a sleepless night. As I jumped
out of the shower, I realized that I only had thirty minutes to be completely ready and do my morning
warm up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I felt as though nothing was going to help me out, so I had to have a perfect short game that day. I took
a venture over to the practice putting green. I noticed that a plethora of golf bags had gathered on the
cement next to the green. My greenside play was where it needed to be but not perfect. I was as ready
for the day as I would ever be.
I started out to my designated tee box. It happened to be one of the farthest away points on the course.
A cart came by that was going to the same place that I was going, so I got a ride. As I stood on the tee
box of hole six, I realized that this hole was one that had plagued me all year long. I had always been
fine right up until my last shot to the green. A creek that ran right in the front of the green had taken
almost every one of my golf balls. I had never completed the shot in a pressure situation.
First, I faced an upcoming tee shot on a long, dogleg right par 5. I unzipped my baby blue
Hotchkiss/Cedaredge bag and pulled out a brand new shinny sleeve of Ben Hogan golf balls. I teed up
the ball in the uneven front portion of the tee box, and I zeroed in on a weeping willow tree down the
middle right of the fairway. All I needed was a good drive to start this round. As I approached the ball
I noticed the saplings to my right and wondered if there was any way to shank, hit it straight right, a
wood into them. I cleared my thoughts by concentrating on

The Terrifying Canoe Ride in Turks and Caicos
Have you ever gotten stuck in the middle of ocean? Well, I have. It happened when I was only 10
years old, in the middle of the summer when I was on vacation in Turks and Caicos. While I was
there, I was so eager and excited to canoe. It was one of many things you can do that the hotel offered
and I kept bugging my mom and my siblings to do it. When they finally agreed to do it, I didn t know
how much trouble it would put me in the future and all my other siblings into too. I learned from this
event to always be sure on how to do something before you actually do it. Or just not to be a smarty

swimming for dear life not even knowing the snorkeling boat was behind him! All three of us kids
were a complete mess! While on the boat, my sister, brother, and I were in a quiet mood of panic.
When I got back on the shore, I saw my mom smiling and then laughing. At first, I was a little irritated
because she was laughing and her kids could have been killed! But then after my mom told me she
knew we would be safe because one of the workers was already coming to get us, but the other
snorkeling boat saw us first. This is my experience when I went canoeing and then got stuck in the
middle of the ocean. We then got picked up by a snorkeling boat and then safely got back to the shore

Problems With The American Education System
In the past, some children were too poor to go to school. Today, it is the law to go to school. Because
students get bored of the topic, they sometimes tune out the teacher, get distracted, and/or socialize
instead of paying attention in class. Because of this, students are lacking in critical thinking. Students
also lack in science content knowledge. Over time, the American Education system has evolved
because of ineffective actions, causing the students to lose or forget skills, making them not ready for
college or a job.

Paul s Discourse Against Slavery
Interestingly, Paul does not deliver a discourse against slavery but instead teaches on how we are to
relate to each other in Christ. Eventually, Paul was prepared to write to Philemon to explain what they

made a genuine difference in his life that made him consider himself and others differently, including
Philemon. Paul knew by having a different concept of slavery and how to treat others who are in
authority is truly a blessing to for Onesimus and Philemon to know. As a result, all such authority
begins with God, for there is no authority except from God (Rom 13:1).

Literary Analysis Of Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman
A Sorrowful (and now dead) Woman
OR The Good (and now dead) Housewife
OR The Life and Death of the World s Best Mom
Gail Godwin s Sorrowful Woman develops the message that the archetypal role of mother and wife is
so constricting and limiting as to force the mother character to end her life. The end of the story
demonstrates the power of rhetoric, contrast, and detached narration in creating the text s message. A
Sorrowful Woman features a superficially simple narration style. Now the days were too short. She
was always busy, Stylistically clipped, with a clear passive, detached, voice the narration style seems
to be a banal, unimportant feature of the text. Yet the exact mendacity that prompts this description
actually serves as a prerequisite to developing an understanding for the principal character s mindset,
and consequently the theme of the text. The last passage contains numerous examples of detached
narration but the clearest occurs when She was always busy. She woke with the first bird. Worked till
the sun set. No time for hair brushing. Her fingers raced the hours. The concise, third person narration
in this segment allows the reader to experience the slightly off viewpoint of the mother. Specifically,
given the lack of motivation present through the text coupled with the concluding suicide it becomes
evident in the text that the mother is suffering from depression. Given the societal stigma surrounding
mental illness authors generally face an uphill

The Effects Of The Holocaust
Between the years 1939 and 1945, the Allies and the Axis Powers were fighting World War II. The
Nazis were steadily rising into power and began the slow first acts of what would later be known as
the Holocaust. Holocaust is a Geek term meaning execution, or sacrifice, of an entire group involving
fire. The Jewish population of Europe went through years of horrific events and many lost their hope,
family, and their inner selves. Their stories and legacies have lived on and will continue to leave a
lasting impact on our world for many years to come. During the Holocaust, the Nazi Regime took the
Jewish community through a very traumatic period of suffering, discrimination, and oppression. Long
before the Holocaust, Jews were already not accepted into the society very well. The Nazis were not
the first official group who did not agree with them; in fact many believed in Anti Semitism.
Christians were often rude to Jews because they remained faithful to their own traditions and refused

Negative Side Effects Of Vaccination
It is often argued that it s selfish to not immunize your child, that you put others at risk. I argue this is
untrue, and that it speaks very poorly as to the effectiveness of vaccines in the first place. According to
the National Institute of Health, the vaccine herd effect is when non immunized people are protected
from a disease by their proximity to vaccinated individuals. Simply, there will be less disease going
around to be contracted by those that are not immune, since a large percentage of the population
already immune. So the likelihood of someone without an immunity to polio for instance, contracting
the disease in America is very low. (Hyong Kim, Johnstone, Loeb, 2011) The only people hurt by not
being immunized, are those not vaccinated themselves already. If a parent doesn t want their child
vaccinated for chickenpox, while all other children in their school are, and the child contracts it, the
other parents have nothing to worry about; unless the vaccination their child received wasn t effective.
The choice of whether or not certain vaccines are appropriate is also determined by the cost analysis
of side effects. Negative side effects of vaccinations is little spoke of by the main stream media or the
government, and anyone questioning their authority is made to look foolish. Why is it wrong to
question something that is talked about so positively? And why can t we as Americans decide for
ourselves how we choose to live our lives; especially when

Wisconsin Rock Formation Essay
Wisconsin contains rocks ranging from around 359 million years all the way to 2.8 billion years old.
Fortunately, this wide range of rocks has patterns in their placement across the state. If one were to dig
down to solid rock, in general, the age of upper most rocks layers increases in age going from west to
east, and also from south to north. The history of the formation of Wisconsin to its present day
condition happed through major geological events such as various tectonic processes, sedimentation,
metamorphism, and glaciation. Let s walk through the major events that have come to define
Wisconsin geology. The oldest rocks in Wisconsin are in the northern most part of the state near
Ontario and they range from 2.8 1.0 billion years old. These rocks formed when North American

During rifting of continents around 2.4 billion years ago, major passive margin, continental plate
drifting apart to form mid ocean ridge, was produced throughout Wisconsin. By, 1.875 billion years,
the margin became a subduction zone, boundary where tectonic plates collide, this resulted in banded
Iron Formation rocks(BIFs) being deposited in northernmost Wisconsin. Through time, these BIFs
have become metamorphosed and deformed. While this was happening, around 1.85 billion years ago
an island arc, oceanic islands with intense volcanic activities, crashed into the continent. Later on
around 1.84 billion years ago another continental crustal body crashed into the continent. These
continental collisions formed mountains called The Penokean Mountains. Metamorphism and
sedimentation of this mountain is responsible for the other older rocks we see in northern Wisconsin.
These rocks include the Powell Kyanite Schist and quartzite. The Mazatzal orogeny beginning around
1.65 billion years ago resulted in further crust being added through continent continent

As the result, there is no turning back and it might cause huge changes of the process. Weaknesses:
https://www.cms.gov/Research Statistics Data and Systems/CMS Information
Technology/XLC/Downloads/SelectingDevelopmentApproach.pdf However, there are lots of
weaknesses for Waterfall during development. The Waterfall model is not flexible and it s too slow
and costly because of the process cannot be changed and need to ensure each step finish before move
to next one. Because of this structure, the process cannot move backward and relay on the design and
documentation in the beginning, for example, it will be difficult and might need to start from
beginning again if clients want to change their requirements. During the development, there will be no
test for the program (only basic test) so some bugs or problems can t be found until system test step
and they need to fix the bugs and problems based on capacity. It wastes lots of time to update all
documentation, in addition, some specifications will be difficult for users to read and understand.

Waterfall can work well when everything is following the plan because the model rely on all
specification and documentation which finished before implement it, in another word, it s easy to

Logistics Of Container Liner Shipping
1. Introduction
Container liner shipping has become one of the most important transportation modes in international
trade. It is growingly penetrated into the share of many conventional shipping modes. Containerized
cargo has been the most dynamic cargo group. About 60% of the value of goods transported by sea is
containerized cargo (Stopford 2009). In 2011, container shipping carried some 1.477 million tons of
8,879 million tons of seaborne trade (Unctad 2011). In terms of TEU, world container traffic grew
from 13.5 m TEUs in 1980 to 152.1 m TEUs in 2011, on average 8.29 % per year (ISL 2011).

the author? Why or why not?
I watched The Story of Bottled Water . This video s main goal is to persuade you not to buy bottled
water. The producers of the video gave examples showing a bad light on bottled water. One example
highlighted how water bottles were sitting in landfills in India and polluting the world. I agree with the
fact about how it is bad that the bottles are causing pollution. At another point in the video they said
that being seen drinking out of a bottle of water was getting to the same level as being seen smoking
while pregnant. I disagree with that statement. I think that is very extreme and just not true. My
opinion on this topic after watching the video is that the problem is not the bottles of water and their
companies, it is the factories in India that are not actually recycling the bottles. That seems to be the
main problem. Examine the title of the poem. What do you think it means? Read the poem several

The Origin Of Spain s Current Economic Crisis
On the Origin of Spain s current Economic Crisis
The economy of Spain has taken a downturn in 2011 since the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Unlike the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, where Spain was a global empire, modern Spain is facing
a very stagnant economy. Spain s unemployment rate reached a record of 27 percent in 2011. This
shows that more than 1 in 5 Spaniards is struggling to feed their family. Luckily, things had gotten

Spain s historical glory did not prevent it from current economic crisis. Spain was the first global

Spanish empire became the most prominent superpower, dominating most of the world. This allowed
Spanish people at the time to enjoy a cultural golden age during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries;
but this glorious moment did not last longer to prevent Spain s current economic downfall. Despite
suffering an economic downturn, Spanish empire remained the largest in the world until the eighteenth
centuries.
The Civil War causes Spain s global power to drop as their economy decreases, until the day Francisco
Franco took over in 1939. Franco ruled Spain from 1939 until his

Impact Of Thomas Jefferson And Geroge Washington On The...
Thomas Jefferson and Geroge Washington played a large role in the stability of the government.
George Washington was well respected among the public, which is why he was elected as the first
president of America after the U.S. had officially become independent from Britain. Moreover,
Thomas Jefferson was also a well respected leader and believed in economic equality for everyone.
Overall they both helped shape America for the better in the ways they led the country throughout
their presidency.
Washington was a man of character and rarely used force to settle issues. During the Whiskey
Rebellion, which was caused by the tax placed on whiskey, George Washington personally led his
troops to go stop the rebellion. This was the first realization of the need for a stronger central
government. Although many Americans did not like the strong central government style of leading
because it reminded them of their past rulership, it was needed for America to become stable.

getting involved with foreign affairs, Jefferson passed the Embargo Act which banned trading with
foreign countries. Although this was disliked, it helped create America s manufacturing. This also
helped to stabilize the economy of America. Although Thomas Jefferson opposed the bank, he
opposed it because he thought it gave too much power to the national government. He also believed
that the constitution did not have the power to do this. This helped stabilize the government because it

Analytics are used in various business practices including the validation of pre employment

Effective Communication in Team Dynamics Essay
Throughout personal and business lives everyone will eventually work in a team setting. A team
usually consists of three or more people who have a common goal or purpose. When working in a
team, members have to decide what roles they will fill, plan their schedules for projects, and deal with
upcoming team conflicts. Stewart, Sims Manz (1999) stated, For a team to succeed, team members
need to effectively communicate with one another (p. 79). While each element of teamwork is
important, effective communication is the cornerstone to team dynamics.
One of the main elements of effective communication is open discussions. Everyone on the team
needs to be willing to share his or her point of view. De Janasz, Dowd Schneider (2002) ... Show more

Once the team has achieved open communication the team members will be more willing to
encourage each other, which will lead to more creativity and risk taking. This creativity will be
achieved by trusting that the communication will be heard, discussed and tried if it will help the team
reach its goals. Temme and Katzel (1995) wrote that risk taking plays a major role in the creative
process. Trust and open communication will lead to brainstorming and sharing of ideas between the
team members. Therefore, team members must try new things to see if the ideas presented will benefit
the ultimate outcome and help achieve the final goal.
Eventually every team will have a conflict. Since conflict is inevitable, effective communication is
vital for the team success. The team needs to figure out what the conflict is, what needs to be done to
get the team going again, what the options are and how they will solve the conflict in a way that is
beneficial to the team (University of Phoenix, 2004). Without effective communication, this process of
conflict resolution would fail. The team members would not be willing to share their point of view,
teamwork would stall, and the conflict would escalate. Once a conflict escalates, the team will have a
hard time coming back together and trusting each other to accomplish the set goals. The team must be
able to communication openly and discuss solutions

Fredrick Taylor, another management theorist invented the principle of scientific management
showing five simple management principles: 1. Shift all responsibility for the organisation of work
from the worker to the manager. Managers think, plan, and design work, while the workers does the
implementation, 2. Use scientific method to determine the most efficient way of doing work. Design
worker s task accordingly, specifying the precise way in which the work is to be done, 3. Select the
best person to perform the job thus designed, 4. Train the worker to do the work effectively, 5.
Monitor worker performance to ensure that appropriate work procedures are followed and that
appropriate results are achieved. (Morgan 1997)
McDonalds, Burger King, Greggs, and most fast food outlets are perfect examples of Taylor s
principles. Other examples include car / automobile manufacturing companies like: Honda, Toyota,
Ford, Mitsubishi, London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, British high commission in Nigeria,

Mechanistic forms of organisation have many advantages and some very serious disadvantages.

Dissection Alternatives Essay
Dissection Alternatives
Dissection in science classrooms is an experience that almost every student has to go through, but one
that many will regret. It is estimated that six million vertebrate animals are dissected in high schools
each year, and another 5.7 million are used in college laboratories. The issue of educational dissection
has become a national concern. Many groups such as PETA and The Humane Society have been
lobbying for years to outlaw such practices, and implement new and safe dissection alternatives.
Alternatives to dissection have become more popular in recent decades and may be the future of

They ruled that under her First Amendment rights Jennifer could object to the dissection on moral
grounds, and therefore could not be forced to participate. Jennifer s high school then instated a student
choice policy so that students who chose not to participate in dissections would be offered a viable
alternative. Now there are seven states that have informed consent laws regarding classroom
dissection: Florida, California, Maine, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Rhode Island, and New York. These
laws require that students must be informed of a dissection lab at the beginning of a course, and if they
wish, will be provided with an alternative. There are also two states where it is mandatory that
students are provided with dissection alternatives: Maryland, and Illinois.
There are also several nations that have banned educational dissection from their science curriculums.
Argentina was the first in 1987, followed by Slovakia (1994), and Israel (1999). And in 2001, India
banned the use of mice, rats, and frogs for any type of dissection purposes.
The main issue with statewide dissection laws is that they only apply to elementary, middle, and high
schools. Colleges and Universities are not required to follow each state s policy. This can create many
problems. At one particular University, the student choice policy for dissection may very from

  • 2. Electronic Surveillance And Its Historical Context The first part of this paper framed FISA in its historical context. The 1978 Act initially enacted dealt only with electronic surveillance. It provided a statutory framework for collection of foreign intelligence information through the use of electronic surveillance of communications of foreign powers or agents of foreign powers. However, the Congress amended the act in 1995 and 1999 to provide a statutory framework for gathering foreign intelligence information through the use of electronic surveillance, physical searches, pen registers or trap and trace devices, access to business records and other tangible things. In sum, FISA grants broader authority than the Crime Control Act, but under a narrower range of circumstances. To limit the abuse of the Executive power that led to its passage, FISA also established the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Courts (FISC). The FISC requires the government to submit an application to obtain a surveillance warrant to a specially appointed FISA judge. Moreover, since the FISA warrant is secret, the government in order to benefit from this higher level of secrecy bears a burden of showing that there is probable cause to believe the target is a foreign power and that the targeted information relates to the ability of the United States to protect against spying or terrorism. However, to address changing circumstances after the terrorist attacks of September 911, Congress has repeatedly amended FISA to adapt to the fight against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Individuality In The Pedestrian And Fahrenheit 451 By Ray... In life, it is commonly stated that A man who doesn t think for himself, does not think at all. This statement is supported in The Pedestrian and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In Fahrenheit 451 the main character finds himself bound to the expectations of society and robotically follows every order that is given to him without second thoughts. This leads to him being unknowingly unhappy and having a hollow existence. But as the story progressed the main character became more aware of the person that he truly was, and when he had finally discovered that person, he was truly happy. On the contrary, In The Pedestrian a lone individual who is different from society is able to think for himself, thus giving him freedom from the bonds of society and the ability to embrace his individuality. Making him free and happy. In both stories, we see how individuality releases people from the shackles of their society and finally allows them to be truly happy with who they are. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tombs, ill lit by television light, where the people sat like the dead, the gray or multicolored lights touching their faces, but never really touching them (Bradbury 2). Leonard Mead describes the state that the people are living in great detail to convey their lifeless state. He says that the tombs were ill lit by television light. Tombs are usually the graves of the dead, and as the house is dark, it usually means that it lacks life. Leonard Mead then says how the light wasn t really touching the people, this conveys that they were basically transparent and the light just went through them like they were ghosts. This describes the lifeless trance that the entire society was in as they lacked individuality thus robbing them of their free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Mismatch Between Limbic System There is a mismatch between when the limbic system starts to mature and when the prefrontal cortex starts to mature. The limbic system starts at the onset of puberty and with it starting at an earlier age today the gap between when the limbic system matures and the prefrontal cortex matures is getting larger making the window for risky behavior longer than it was before. Since adolescent brain has the ability to change in response to the environment by modifying the communications networks that connect brain regions, those changes make them vulnerable to dangerous behaviors and mental disorders. • 6. Violation Of Social Norms In The Classroom According to National Post Ben Fields, a school resource officer at Spring Valley High School has been fired for using unnecessary force to remove a student from the classroom. Videos taken by the students in the classroom show Deputy Fields asking the student to leave; upon refusal, the officer is seen wrapping his forearm around the student s neck and flipping her while she was still sitting in her desk. The female student is then dragged, tossed across the room and finally handcuffed while students watch. According to students, the female student was on her cell phone in class. After a teacher and administrator were unable to get the student to hand over her cell phone or leave the classroom, Fields was called. A classmate quoted the female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The actions of Fields can be seen as a violation of a social norm. It is abnormal for a police officer to use excessive force on a student who is posing no immediate threat, especially on a young student. County Sheriff Lott has stated the forced used on the student was not part of training or normal protocol ( It just makes you sick , 2015). The concept of social norm and subjective construal can be seen. Construal is the way an individual views, understands, and interprets the social world to be. In subjective construal, although the situation is the same, there are opposing views on the way the people involved view, understand, and interpret the situation (Droogendyk, 2015). According to Antrobus, Bradford, Murphy, and Sargeant (2015) obeying the police is strongly associated with an individuals own feelings about obeying the police and their ties to the community. An individual who does not feel a strong tie to the community, in this case the school environment, would feel fewer obligations to obey. In the article, the female student made it clear that she will not hand over her cell phone or leave the classroom because she did not do anything wrong. However, according to the teacher and administrator the student did and therefore needed to be removed. Fields shared this view and seemed to think not only should the student be removed but also force was necessary. The different opposing views demonstrate subject construal and how both parties think they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. ##ethical Analysis Of God Is Dead By Friedrich Nietzsche I was really confused when I first stumbled across reading this quote. I didn t really understand what Nietzsche was saying from the phrase God is dead . After talking with my classmates and doing some research I got a better understanding about the quote. Most people didn t understand it like me at first and they thought Nietzsche interpreted in a literal death or end of God. I think Nietzsche says this quote because he was an atheist and he had a different perspective about God which he never even believed in. Most people believe that God is all knowing and powerful so he or she can t die. The understanding I got from this quote is that I think Nietzsche is trying to say that is not relevant to people anymore meaning that people don t care. Friedrich Nietzsche is a well known philosopher who influenced many topics in the world and was not really a fan of religion. This quote is widely known by everyone and it is first shown in his 1882 collection The Gay Science . The phrase God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him can have many meanings to different people. I interpreted this phrase by thinking that people don t care about and no more have a use for God. In a sense Nietzsche is saying that large and consistent moral theories could exist without reference to God. For example, Europe no longer needed God as the source for all morality, value, or order in the universe. By that I mean philosophy and science was capable of doing that for us. As the ... • 11. Homosexuality In Alfred Hitchcock s Film As Hitchcock s career took him to Hollywood, in 1939, as did his productions take him into dealing with different issues as previously had been featured in his films. Amongst the controversial few, homosexuality was a topic subtly explored. At the time of production, the Motion Picture Production Code forbade the depiction or any direct reference to homosexuality. In addition, the United States had a universally poor view on homosexuals, much due to the fact that homosexuality was considered a mental disorder, until 1974, by psychiatrists. Even still, Hitchcock took the public s viewpoint and capitalized on that within many of his films to exploit homosexuals in a negative fashion. At first glance, yes, it is true that he did not represent homosexuals in a positive light rarely ever (and if he did, the characters were not important or completely relevant to the story line.) But, out of all of this, it could be argued in some way that Hitchcock could definitely have been a homosexual himself. Hitchcock is credited with saying, You know, if I hadn t met Alma at the right time, I could have become a [homosexual]. It has been noted that a young Hitchcock had an affinity towards The Picture of Dorian Gray. This novel, by Oscar Wilde, is said to have influenced Hitchcock s directing in a way that no other work of literature had or ever would. Quotes from Hitchcock, such as, Everything s perverted in a different way, and, Each man kills the thing he loves, all relate back to the classic Oscar Wilde ideals. Of course, it is known that Oscar Wilde was a homosexual man and lead one to gather that because Hitchcock was so taken with Wilde s novel, that Hitchcock s interest in homosexuality stemmed beyond that of a heterosexual male. Hitchcock blatantly expressed, as quoted above, the possibility that he was not heterosexual. In addition, he also believed in the fact that perversion was a universal school of thought. All I saw was the perfect arch of the rock as it hurled through the air and over a small rock infested river that runs in front of the oblong green. I had just pulled off one of the best shots ever in my golf career. It all started on a brisk August morning. That day I had to get up before the first rays of the sun could be noticed on the horizon. I started out to my designated tee box. It happened to be one of the farthest away points on the course. A cart came by that was going to the same place that I was going, so I got a ride. As I stood on the tee box of hole six, I realized that this hole was one that had plagued me all year long. I had always been fine right up until my last shot to the green. • 21. Literary Analysis Of Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman A Sorrowful (and now dead) Woman OR The Good (and now dead) Housewife OR The Life and Death of the World s Best Mom Gail Godwin s Sorrowful Woman develops the message that the archetypal role of mother and wife is so constricting and limiting as to force the mother character to end her life. The end of the story demonstrates the power of rhetoric, contrast, and detached narration in creating the text s message. A Sorrowful Woman features a superficially simple narration style. Now the days were too short. She was always busy, Stylistically clipped, with a clear passive, detached, voice the narration style seems to be a banal, unimportant feature of the text. Yet the exact mendacity that prompts this description actually serves as a prerequisite to developing an understanding for the principal character s mindset, and consequently the theme of the text. The last passage contains numerous examples of detached narration but the clearest occurs when She was always busy. She woke with the first bird. Worked till the sun set. No time for hair brushing. Her fingers raced the hours. The concise, third person narration in this segment allows the reader to experience the slightly off viewpoint of the mother. Specifically, given the lack of motivation present through the text coupled with the concluding suicide it becomes evident in the text that the mother is suffering from depression. Given the societal stigma surrounding mental illness authors generally face an uphill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Jewish population of Europe went through years of horrific events and many lost their hope, family, and their inner selves. Their stories and legacies have lived on and will continue to leave a lasting impact on our world for many years to come. During the Holocaust, the Nazi Regime took the Jewish community through a very traumatic period of suffering, discrimination, and oppression. Long before the Holocaust, Jews were already not accepted into the society very well. The Nazis were not the first official group who did not agree with them; in fact many believed in Anti Semitism. Christians were often rude to Jews because they remained faithful to their own traditions and refused to convert to Christianity. Martin Luther, who believed Jews were venomous, began multiple attacks harassing Jewish people because they would not accept his new beliefs. • 23. Negative Side Effects Of Vaccination It is often argued that it s selfish to not immunize your child, that you put others at risk. I argue this is untrue, and that it speaks very poorly as to the effectiveness of vaccines in the first place. According to the National Institute of Health, the vaccine herd effect is when non immunized people are protected from a disease by their proximity to vaccinated individuals. Simply, there will be less disease going around to be contracted by those that are not immune, since a large percentage of the population already immune. So the likelihood of someone without an immunity to polio for instance, contracting the disease in America is very low. (Hyong Kim, Johnstone, Loeb, 2011) The only people hurt by not being immunized, are those not vaccinated themselves already. If a parent doesn t want their child vaccinated for chickenpox, while all other children in their school are, and the child contracts it, the other parents have nothing to worry about; unless the vaccination their child received wasn t effective. The choice of whether or not certain vaccines are appropriate is also determined by the cost analysis of side effects. Negative side effects of vaccinations is little spoke of by the main stream media or the government, and anyone questioning their authority is made to look foolish. The Waterfall model is not flexible and it s too slow and costly because of the process cannot be changed and need to ensure each step finish before move to next one. Because of this structure, the process cannot move backward and relay on the design and documentation in the beginning, for example, it will be difficult and might need to start from beginning again if clients want to change their requirements. This video s main goal is to persuade you not to buy bottled water. The producers of the video gave examples showing a bad light on bottled water. One example highlighted how water bottles were sitting in landfills in India and polluting the world. I agree with the fact about how it is bad that the bottles are causing pollution. At another point in the video they said that being seen drinking out of a bottle of water was getting to the same level as being seen smoking while pregnant. I disagree with that statement. I think that is very extreme and just not true. My opinion on this topic after watching the video is that the problem is not the bottles of water and their companies, it is the factories in India that are not actually recycling the bottles. That seems to be the main problem. Examine the title of the poem. What do you think it means? Read the poem several times, then look at the title again. What do you think it means now? ... Once the team has achieved open communication the team members will be more willing to encourage each other, which will lead to more creativity and risk taking. This creativity will be achieved by trusting that the communication will be heard, discussed and tried if it will help the team reach its goals. Temme and Katzel (1995) wrote that risk taking plays a major role in the creative process. Trust and open communication will lead to brainstorming and sharing of ideas between the team members. Therefore, team members must try new things to see if the ideas presented will benefit the ultimate outcome and help achieve the final goal. Eventually every team will have a conflict. Since conflict is inevitable, effective communication is vital for the team success. The team needs to figure out what the conflict is, what needs to be done to get the team going again, what the options are and how they will solve the conflict in a way that is beneficial to the team (University of Phoenix, 2004). Without effective communication, this process of conflict resolution would fail. The team members would not be willing to share their point of view, teamwork would stall, and the conflict would escalate. Once a conflict escalates, the team will have a hard time coming back together and trusting each other to accomplish the set goals.
