Compare And Contrast George And Lennie In Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men is a novella written by John Steinbeck in 1937. Steinbeck gave us in this story a
vivid view of the style of life after the world crisis in ninety twenty nine; People were trying to survive
by working in ranches. At the time, even Steinbeck himself was a traveler working in ranches. The
story in this novella is about two characters who travel together, which was uncommon at the time.
George and Lennie were totally opposites in character and their size of body and their capacity of
mind. George was small and smart, while Lennie was huge and a sort of mind retarded. Both of them
were runaways, because of Lennie who always causes them troubles wherever they find work. From
their first day in the new ranch, they started to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he realized that there is no solution, and Lennie is going to be lynched in any case, he decided
to take the burden onto him and do it himself. George decided to do it by himself, because his way
was more merciful and quieter than lynching; he went before the guys to Lennie and showed him that
he is not angry about him this time; he even narrates to him his favorite story, about them having a
ranch full of rabbits and animals, after he finishes the story he told Lennie that he loves him and he put
the gun behind Lennie s head and shot him dead quietly while Lennie was happy. George then decided
to kill him and save him from his miserable

Michael Merrill Assignment 2 Analysis
The art of Michael Merrill has always been seeking to subvert the established system of art. Merrill s
recent Apartment complex paintings count among his most sophisticated and daring works to date. He
chose the subjects to be not the artwork themselves, but rather their situational contexts and
architectural details in which they were exhibited. He wanted to paint from experience, rather than
from his own experiments in the surreal. As a result, he was inclined towards subjects that were
immediately available to him. Merrill convinces the viewers that the artwork depicted is his to
interpret. As a part of his Apartment series, Apartment 1, Apartment 2, and Apartment 3 are oil on
canvas, finished in 2016. To add, he has related inks on paper ... Show more content on

I will use this newly acquired information to view everyday items differently, to see the beauty behind
plain brick walls. I will take in Merrill s way of thinking to ask myself, What was learned? each time I
have completed an artwork. This will improve my future techniques and widen my range of
perceptions and thoughts. I believe that Michael Merrill was successful in reaching his goal. He
wanted to focus on viewing objects in a different way and using light sources to differentiate colour
and contrast from night and day. I was unbelievably fascinated with Merrill s way of thinking, as it
showed me that there is more than one way to view an object. He so eloquently explained his opinion
on his apartment complex that it made me realize that no two people in the world see something the
same way. I would consider the building to be not worth of my time to paint, yet Merrill demonstrates
his capabilities in a piece of art that I would consider incredible. All of Merrill s artworks are so
perfectly done, from every crisp edge, to the shadows, to the

Eastern Europe Essay
Eastern Europe s geography allowed and encouraged many diverse people to easily conquer its land.
The history of Eastern Europe has been marked by migration, foreign conquest, war and revolution.
The region is home to a mix of diverse people who have often battled with each other and many
foreigners
As a buffer and crossroads, Eastern Europe reaches from Central Europe to Russia. Also, it reaches
from the Baltic Sea and through the Balkan Peninsula. Much of the region lies on the European plain .
Its main rivers, the Danube and the Vistula allowed goods and cultural influences to travel along river
routes. This led to the Balkans in the south feeling the impact of the Byzantine empire and the Muslim
Ottoman empire. Because of the ease of its accessibility, Eastern Europe was the perfect target for
neighboring groups of people, whether they were peaceful or looking to take over.

Prince Boleslaw of Cracow issued a charter to protect the liberties of Jews. In response, Jewish
villages were common in Poland. Religious influences and people were spreading at a rapid rate. This
caused many kingdoms to develop that would battle for power in the near future. Roman Catholic
missionaries converted many West Slavs in Poland in the 900s. The first Polish king was crowned, but
to survive, Poland frequently had to battle Germans, Russians, and Mongols. Queen Jadwiga and
Duke Wladyslaw Jagiello of Lithuania s marriage began Poland s greatest age. However, political
power in Poland shifted to the nobles because of liberum veto or free veto in which the vote of a
single nobel could block the passage of a law. Because of their lack of a strong central government,
Poland lithuania declined. Because Poland did not take strong stand against invaders they declined

Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz Essay
Sarah Johnson
Personal Response to Survival in Auschwitz
Why is the pain of every day translated so constantly into our dreams, in the ever repeated scene of the
unlistened to story (Levi, p 60)? As I read this quote in my book, I highlighted it and wrote in the
margin foreshadowing . I feel confident that these dreams signified just that; that the author (amongst
the other survivors) would forever re live those horrors and try tell their stories...and no one listens.
The poem at the beginning of the book, Survival in Auschwitz, by Primo Levi, warns us of just this
and curses us should we fail to listen. It is imperative that we a global community never forget and
forever respect the struggle. I believe that this feeling, of sharing his ... Show more content on

We would think this to a reasonable response, however Levi goes on to educate otherwise. Kuhn is out
of his senses. Does he not see...Beppo, who is twenty years old and is going to the gas chamber the
day after tomorrow and knows it...? If I was God, I would spit at Kuhn s prayer (p129). I thought that
Levi s response to Kuhn s prayer was extreme at first, for isn t it customary to give thanks for good
fortune? But then as I reflected on this, Levi was absolutely correct. How dare one man thank God for
living another day when the man beside him has been condemned? There is no rhyme or reason to it,
there is no why in the Lager. It is impossible for them at the time to understand, which is why the law
of the camp was do not think . How can we begin to fathom now the how s or why s? It doesn t make
sense. Who wants to listen to a story that doesn t make any sense and acknowledge that it could
happen all over again?
Sometimes, we love to hear the story of a tragedy. For example, some of the most well liked tragedies
of all time include Gone with the Wind, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, many of Shakespeare s plays,
and a Streetcar Named Desire. These are not only stories though; they have their sadness but
throughout there is also hope and there are also morals, these are things to gain by these stories. The
story the Levi needs to share with us has no hope, it has no moral storyline that we can learn from

Quantitative Study Of Heat And Enthalpy Changes
PART A
Thermochemistry is the quantitative study of heat and enthalpy changes in chemical reactions.
Enthalpy (H) ... is a measure of the total energy possessed by a substance or group of substances.
(Smith 2006, pp. 289). The change in enthalpy (∆H) of a substance is defined as the heat absorbed or
released during a chemical reaction.
A car motor works by converting petrol, also known as chemical energy, to kinetic energy, therefore
assisting with the movement of a car.
A chemical reaction, known as combustion, occurs in the car motor. A combustion reaction consists of
a hydrocarbon reacting with oxygen (O2) to give the products carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O).
A hydrocarbon is a compound consisting simply of Hydrogen (H2) and Carbon (C), methane (CH4)
and diesel (C12H23) are examples of a hydrocarbon. The chemical equation for a combustion reaction
is as follows: Hydrocarbon + Oxygen  Carbon Dioxide + Water. The combustion reaction of
methane (CH4) is: CH4 (g) + 2O2 (g)  CO2 (g) + 2H2O (l), the combustion reaction of ethane is:
2C2H6 (g) + 7O2 (g)  4 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l) and the combustion reaction for butane is 2C4H10 (g)
+13O2 (g)  8CO2 (g) +10H2O (g). If combustion takes place internally, the engine is referred to as
an internal combustion engine. A diesel engine is an example of this. Internal combustion engines
convert the chemical energy in fuel to mechanical energy via an exothermic reaction.
An internal combustion engine, mainly consists of a

Primary Endosymbiosis
Endosymbiosis is one of the most fascinating concepts we have covered so far. I have heard it said that
if our extremely distant ancestor microbe had never engulfed that first mitochondria, life as we know
it would not exist, and it seems to me that is probably true. As explained by Avissar et al., at some
point around 3.5 billion years ago there was very little molecular oxygen in Earth s atmosphere
(2016). Prokaryotes called cyanobacteria evolved to use sunlight as an energy source to break down
carbon dioxide. These early prokaryotes were engulfed by other organisms, the earliest of the
eukaryotes, in a process called primary endosymbiosis. Such cyanobacteria are still evident in the
plastids found in modern eukaryotic plant cells. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second important endosymbiotic event occurred as a result, in the acquisition of mitochondria by
the earliest eukaryotes (Avissar et al., 2016). Mitochondria are responsible for aerobic cellular
respiration in eukaryotic cells, and for a long time it was believed that they were simply organelles.
But much like plastids in photoreactive eukaryotes, the evidence points to mitochondria having been
absorbed by early eukaryotes, forming a symbiotic relationship in which the larger cell protected the
smaller and provided a ready source of nutrients, and in turn the mitochondria allowed the larger cells
to process all of the new molecular oxygen as an energy source to promote glycolysis (Cooper, 2000).
Another strong piece of evidence that points to plastids and mitochondria having once been distinct
organisms from their eukaryotic hosts is the fact that unlike other cell organelles, they contain their
own DNA and reproduce independently (though in sync with) their host cells (Avissar et al., 2016).
This was first observed when a biologist noticed that mitchondria seem to move on their own,
independent of the host cell s movement. Clearly this arrangement has been a winning one, since the
results of these kinds of endosymbiosis have persisted and evolved for billions of

Edwin H. Land Invented The Polaroid Camera
Edwin H. Land
Edwin H. Land invented the Polaroid camera and developed many uses for polarized glass.
American inventor Edwin H. Land was the driving force behind the Polaroid Corporation s
engineering and marketing successes. He founded the company to manufacture his inventions, such as
polarized windows and sunglasses, and he also produced revolutionary optics for the military during
World War II (1939 45). It was his development of the instant camera, however, that made his
company famous and allowed him to dominate the instant photography market with cameras that first
produced pictures in sepia tones, then black and white, and finally in color. Routinely discarding
conventional wisdom, Land believed that market research was not ... Show more content on

They were married in 1929, and Land returned to Harvard that same year. This time the university
provided him with a laboratory to conduct his research.
Develops commercial method to polarize light
It had been known since the eighteenth century that certain kinds of crystals (clear colorless glasses of
superior quality) could affect the direction of light waves. In his effort to develop a method for
polarizing light, Land was searching for a crystal that could not only reduce glare but was stable and
economical enough to be produced commercially. He conceived the idea of two plates that would
absorb the light waves that were not wanted and transmit those that were. He then succeeded in
aligning millions of microscopic iodine crystals in one direction, thus creating the first polarizer. Land
presented a paper on his discovery at a physics colloquium (meeting) at Harvard in February 1932. In
June, he left the university, one semester short of a degree, and never returned.
Invents Polaroid
With a Harvard graduate student named George Wheelwright, who had been one of his teachers, Land
formed Land Wheelwright Laboratories, Inc., in June 1932. The two men worked on developing
methods of manufacturing polarized sheets made of crystals trapped in nitrocellulose (any of several
nitric acid esters of cellulose used for making explosives, plastics, and varnishes). On November 30,
1934, the camera company Eastman Kodak gave Land Wheelwright an order for $10,000 worth of

Cardiac Arrest And The Effects Of Epinephrine Essay
Cardiac Arrest and The Effects of Epinephrine in Pre hospital Setting
Sudden cardiac arrest is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating.
When this occurs the blood flow stops to the brain and vital organs. Sudden cardiac arrest is not the
same as a heart attack or myocardial infarction. A heart attack is when the blood flow to part of the
heart is blocked.
Without early intervention on average 360,000 people out of the hospital succumb to cardiac arrest.
Cardiac arrest and sudden death account for 60 percent of all deaths from coronary artery disease ,
(Bledsoe, Porter, Cherry, 2011,2007,2004, p. 1229)There are several causes of sudden cardiac arrest.
Most are caused by ventricular fibrillation. During ventricular fibrillation, the ventricles do not beat
normally. Instead they quiver rapidly and irregularly. When this occurs, the heart pumps very little and
blood does not get circulated throughout the body. Most of the cases found with sudden cardiac death
are related to undetected cardiovascular disease.( Sudden Cardiac Death, 2015, para. 2)Sudden cardiac
arrest are immediate and drastic that includes sudden collapse, no pulse, not breathing, and loss of
consciousness. Four rhythms produce pulseless cardiac arrest: ventricular fibrillation, rapid ventricular
tachycardia, pulseless electrical activity and asystole. ( Circulation , 2005, p. IV 58)Other signs and
symptoms that could occur prior to sudden cardiac arrest, include fatigue,

In the myth of Phaethon and the Sun Chariot, Phaethon often brags about the fact that is father is the

demands that his mother, Clymene, give him proof of his paternity. Clymene reassures him, and sends
him from Ethiopia to India, where Helios lives. When he arrives, Phaethon is awed by the magnificent
palace. He proceeds inside to find his father upon a diamond throne. Helios was thrilled by Phaethon s

This is because some of the morals taught by this story remain important today. Humility, family, and
importance of promises are the most relevant of these values in the 21st century. Humility is important
for a number of reasons. Primarily, it helps you succeed. If you very overly prideful, you wouldn t see
any use in practicing skills or learning information, because you would have the sense that could do it
all already. The value of family plays a crucial role in society today as well, as many people share
close bonds with others in their family. This ensures that people always have someone who they can
trust and seek help from. Lastly, keeping promises helps you gain trust. This is important for
strengthening relationships with others. The myth of Phaethon and the Sun Chariot helped the Greeks
gain an understanding of the world, and contains many values which make the story still relevant

includes the best technology in automotive industry and the capability of implementing sophisticated
aerodynamics. Ford and Dodge have been head to head with each other since the early 1900 s. Both of

hardships that would either make or break both of the companies, and all their time and effort the
founders have dedicated to the automobile industry. On January, 14th, 1920, John Francis Dodge had
passed away, leaving the company to his brother. Soon after John Francis death, Horace Elgin Dodge
had also passed away from Influenza on December, 20th, 1920. Leaving the the Dodge company
behind ranked in 2nd place in the automobile industry. With no one to left in charge of the Dodge
company, the company was later sold to the Graham Brothers who were a truck manufacturing
company. Eventually Ford was also hit with some hardships. Henry Ford had also passed away in
April, 7, 1947 from Cerebral Hemorrhage. Soon after Henry Ford s death the company was passed
down to his grandson Henry Ford II. Leaving all of henry s innovation and ingenuity behind.
Yet with big drawbacks from both companies, Ford and Dodge managed to progress. After nearly 40

Insert Title Here Hero. According to Webster s New World Dictionary, a hero is defined as any person,
male or female, admired for courage, nobility, etc. (Webster s New World Dictionary, hero 1 ).
Webster s Pocket Dictionary, comparably, defines a hero as a person of great courage, spirit, etc.,
especially one who has undergone great danger or difficulty (Webster s Pocket Dictionary, hero 3 ).
Heroes are not born heroes. Yes, everyone is born with the ability to be a hero, but in time, they may
or may not become one. In our society, heroes are greatly acclaimed in the media. Whenever some
person takes a bullet for a loved one or saves a child from a burning building, there is a huge deal
made about it, and they become known as heroes. But a person does not have to physically save
someone s life to be a hero. A hero can also be someone who simply stands up for what he or she
believes. Much like Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, a hero can be someone who knows
what is right and does the right thing, even if he is ridiculed for doing so. Also, whether or not a
person is a hero depends on the perspective of the person. For instance, a little girl may think her
father is the greatest man alive, but her first grade classmate does not think so instead, she thinks her
father is a hero. The daughters of the man who is known for deterring United Airlines Flight 93 on

The Negative Effects Of Corporal Punishment On Children
Among the various forms of children punishments, corporal punishment has been revealed to be an
ineffective form of correction due to the negative consequences associated with it. Corporal
punishment involves subjecting children to physical pain as a corrective measure to prevent them from
engaging in inappropriate behaviors. This is a type of power assertive method of discipline where
children are subjected to punishments without explanation or justification. They grow up in fear of the
consequences of corporal punishment rather than understanding the right from the wrong. The
consequences associated with physical punishment include both physical and emotional abuse that has
adverse effects on the growth and development of children. As a result of corporal punishments,
children are often left with disabilities or bad medical conditions in case of injuries during
punishment. The children are also abused emotionally through the vulgar language that is often used
by the parents during the administration of the punishments. This physical and emotional abuses that
children are subjected to makes them lead a disturbed life in future. The recommended approach of
discipline is therefore the inductive method where the children are guided with explanation and
justification in case of punishments in order to understand rather than fear the reason behind the
punishment. Physical punishment is determined to have adverse effects that impact negatively on the
self esteem of a child.

Illegal Drinking in the United States
During the Progressive Movement, the United States saw an opportunity to moderate people s
drinking of alcohol. They wanted to stop all manufacturing, distributing, and selling of alcoholic
beverages. October 28, 1919, that day Congress approved legislation, the Volstead Act, which
implemented the Eighteenth Amendment. The Eighteenth Amendment also took away license to
continue their business. Early 19th century United States was when alcohol began to become a
complication. The Prohibition began January 17, 1920, which is when the Eighteenth Amendment
went into effect. Women in the 19th century blamed many of society s problems on alcohol. The
women of this time took direct action into getting rid of saloons and all liquor. The crusade sought to
persuade saloon keepers to destroy their beverages, close their doors, and enter some other line of
business. (http://prohibition.osu.edu/womans crusade 1873 74). One powerful woman, Eliza Daniel
Stewart, spoke out against liquor. She gave a speech which helped her lead the formation of the British
Woman s Temperance Association. Women disapproved alcohol because they believe alcohol caused
problems in society. Prohibition was widely popular in the United States. The Anti Saloon League,
founded in 1893 in Oberlin, Ohio began life as a state organization. After 1895 the League became a
powerful national organization. The League was a non partisan organization their only focus was on
prohibition. Gangs of illegal alcohol

Characteristics Of The New England Colonies
During the seventeenth century most of the early settlers came to America in order escape what they
considered English tyranny. Most of the colonies consisted of diverse people from different European
countries such as, England, Scotland, Ireland, Russia, Spain, and France. The environment created
many challenges for early settlers looking to start a new life in the ever expanding new world. As
more immigrants settled in the colonies, they were becoming more and more like the country they had
fled, but at the same time they were becoming different form one another, which resulted in two
different social groups separated by a region, New England and Chesapeake. New England states
included, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island
whereas Chesapeake states included Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. What set
them apart was their different views towards religion, economy, and politics. Most of the people who
settle in the Chesapeake region were farmers, second sons of gentries, and indenture servants, while
most of the settlers in New England consisted of puritans, separatist, and families. Indentured servants
came to America on fixed terms of servitude expanding from four to five years. Once they completed
their terms, their masters were to grant the males clothing, tools, and occasionally land, but in the end,
they were left with nothing. As for the women, upon competing their term, they were expected to
marry.

What´s Neonatal Jaundice
Neonatal jaundice is a common finding in the primary care setting, as almost all newborn infants will
develop an increased level of total serum or plasma bilirubin (TB) presenting as jaundice (Wong
Bhutani, 2013). The identification and treatment of severe neonatal jaundice is necessary to prevent
acute bilirubin encephalopathy and the chronic and permanent complication, kernicterus (American
Academy of Pediatrics [AAP], 2004). The laboratory implications for management of unconjugated
hyperbilirubinemia in term and late term infants ( 35 weeks gestation) after discharge home will now
be discussed. Risk assessment for jaundice should be performed on an infant before discharge from
the hospital, using TB or transcutaneous bilirubin and/or assessment of risk factors. Therefore, if the
TB is plotted on a nomogram prior to discharge, the PNP will have an idea about the infants risk for
developing hyperbilirubinemia at the initial newborn visit and can guide the need for laboratory
evaluation. If this is not available, the PNP should be aware of major risk factors for the development
of hyperbilirubinemia including jaundice present in the first 24 hours of life, blood group

A Discussion Of The Old And New Testaments Essay
Wisdom is generally understood as the right application of knowledge. Moreover, it is regarded as
basic to a theological understanding of the twin concepts of Creation and Redemption, and this
extends its relevance to both a discussion of the Old and New Testaments. In specific terms Wisdom is
associated with Creation and with Redemption in both Testaments as an illustration of its importance
in overall Salvation History.
Wisdom is generally understood as the right use of knowledge. More than that, it is thought of as basic
to a religious understanding of the twin ideas of Creation and Redemption, and thisextends its
relevance to both a discussion of the Old and New Testaments. In clearly stated/particular terms
Wisdom is related to Creation and with Redemption in both Testamentsas an illustration of its
importance in overall (saving or protecting someone from sin or harm)History.
While the dominant trend in Old Testament theology has been either to neglect wisdom literature or to
consider it to be outside the mainstream of Israelite faith, some scholars have offered important
insights into both the theology of the sages and how it relates to the larger biblical theology. We begin
with the place of wisdom in several of the leading presentations of Old Testament Theology since the
Second World War, and then move on to the different approaches to understanding the theology of the
sages by contemporary wisdom scholars.
According to an Old Testament scholar, Wright (1969:70 96)

Comparing One Hundred Years of Solitude and Bless Me...
Magic or Reality in One Hundred Years of Solitude and Bless Me Ultima
In the South American storytelling tradition it is said that humans are possessed of a hearing that goes
beyond the ordinary. This special form is the soul s way of paying attention and learning. The story
makers or cantadoras of old spun tales of mystery and symbolism in order to wake the sleeping soul.
They wished to cause it to prick up its ears and listen to the wisdom contained within the telling.
These ancient methods evolved naturally into the writings of contemporary Latin American authors.
The blending of fantasy with reality to evoke a mood or emphasize elements of importance became
known as magical realism, and was employed to great effect by Latin ... Show more content on

By the time of Ultima s death at the end of the story, the owl has taken on great significance in
Antonio s life and consequently in the progression of his understanding. It was true states Antonio that
the owl was Ultima s spirit. It had come with Ultima, and as men brought evil to our hills the owl had
hovered over us, protecting us. (Anaya, 256).
Other animals play a magical part in Antonio s story. There is the golden carp, an enchanted fish that
Antonio sets out to find. He is inexplicably drawn toward finding the carp, and communing with it.
The golden carp is a representation of the pagan gods that the Catholic Church had set its edicts
against. This prohibition causes Antonio great consternation and internal debate. He wonders if his
desire to find the fish is a lessening of his worthiness in the eyes of the church and in the eyes of God.
None the less, he embarks on his quest. He takes a companion with him as his guide. This is an
effective metaphor for the internal struggle facing Antonio in his life at home. Will he embrace the
church and become the priest his mother wishes him to be, or will he instead become as his brothers
and father, a wandering, restless spirit? The carp appears and a discussion of its home and the
mermaids that share it ensues between Antonio and

Relationship Between the Study of Heat and Kinetic Theory...
Heat, Kinetic Theory of Matter, and Temperature:
In all scientific areas, heat and temperature are significant concepts, especially in a student s daily life
and activities. Moreover, people deal with heat and temperature in their day to day experiences though
several households have significant misconceptions about these concepts. The study and examination
of heat and temperature is important because it provides students with a means for exploring energy
interactions in order to see the process with which thermal energy is transferred. As a result of the
investigations, students obtain knowledge on the greater idea of conservation of energy. While
temperature is described as a measure of average kinetic energy of a substance, heat is regarded as the
wild motion of molecules in a substance (Chalfant, Peyron Raschke, 2005).
Relationship between the Study of Heat and Kinetic Theory of Matter: Unlike the kinetic theory of
matter, the study of heat is described and explained through science. The kinetic theory of matter
basically explains the differences between the three states of matter while stating that every matter
consists of moving particles that are usually atoms or molecules. These particles are strongly bound to
each other making them to only vibrate but not move to a different location in solids ( Kinetic Theory
of Matter , n.d.). On the other hand, the particles have adequate space that enables them to move
around though they still attract each other. Since

Examples Of Existentialism In Waiting For Godot
The play Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett is famous for its cyclic storyline and non existing plot.
In the lines, Beckett incorporates themes of existentialism and the loss of hope. Throughout the two
acts of the play, the main protagonists, Vladimir and Estragon, spend their days waiting aimlessly for a
mysterious figure named Godot. While central in the play, Godot never makes an appearance in any
act, and merely exists as a name. While Pozzo and Lucky, two other characters make their appearance
in each act of the play, the boy is perhaps the most mysterious and intriguing. The boy, whom appears
towards the end of each act, exemplifies the never ending cycle of the search for hope that remains
unfulfilled through the use of symbolism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If hope does not exist, Vladimir and Estragon will never fulfill their desires. Throughout the boy s
appearance, Vladimir continues to interrogate him, asking him several questions about the mysterious
figure that is Godot. Asking the boy about Godot, Vladimir asks, What does he do, Mr. Godot? Do
you hear me? (106), to which the boy merely replies as He does nothing, Sir (106). Thus, the futile
nature of hope is depicted through Beckett s use of symbolism. As Godot symbolizes hope, and the
boy stated that He (Godot) does nothing... (106), this hints the redundant existence of hope. Rather, it
is merely something individuals rely on to keep living, as for the case of Vladimir and Estragon, who
continuously wait for Godot. While they contemplate suicide many times throughout the book, it is
their motivation and continuous strive to wait for Godot that keeps them living to the next day. While
Godot has failed Vladimir and Estragon many times, failing to show up to the exact spot that they
believed they would meet him, they keep on waiting. Their strive and motivation is depicted as
Vladimir says, Tell him... Tell him you saw me and that... That you saw me. You re sure you saw me,
you won t come and tell me to morrow that you never saw me!

A Compare And Contrast Fats Research Paper
Compare and Contrast Fats Generally, the word shortening means any group of solid fats. Shortenings
generally consist of nearly 100 percent fat. It may be made from vegetable oils, animal fats, or both.
Shortenings are used for may purposes, so manufacturers have formulated various kinds of fats with
various properties. (Gisslen, 2013)
All Purpose Shortening
Also known as regular shortening, have a tough, waxy texture, and small particles of the fat tend to
hold their shape in a dough or batter. They are called plastic shortenings, which means they are
moldable at room temperature. They have a good creaming ability. Which means that a good quantity
of air can be mixed into them to give a batter lightness and leavening power. This type of shortening
melts only at a high temperature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are also used in many other pastries, breads, and products mixed by creaming, such as certain
pound cakes, cookies, and quick breads.
High Ratio Shortening
These are soft shortenings that spread easily throughout a batter and quickly coat the particles of sugar
and flour. The are call high ratio because they were devised for use in cake batter that contain a high
ratio of sugar and liquid to flour. They also contain added emulsifying agents, so they can hold a larger
quantity of liquid and sugar than regular shortenings. Which gives a smoother and finer texture to cake
and make them moister. Commonly referred to as emulsifying shortening.
High ratio shortening does not cream well. When a recipe calls for creaming shortening and sugar,
regular shortening should be used. High ratio shortening is often used in icings because it can hold
more sugar and liquid without curdling. It is more temperature stable and will hold air better upon
whipping, improving volume and stability.

Southern California Vs. El Salvador
I wake up to the warmth of the sun touching my skin; I can hear the birds chirping outside calling my
name to get ready and start the day. I get out of bed just to be attacked by two furry blurs trying to lick
my face and showing me how much they love me. I know that I have a long day ahead of me but I
have no idea what I should do. I could go to the beach and feel the soft sand in between my toes or go
to a store and prepare a nice dinner for myself. So much time in a day, but I don t have a clue on how
to spend it. These are the types of decisions I need to make on a daily basis. I go outside and take in
the beauty of my surroundings. Everything seems so perfect, so beautiful, as if it was supposed to look

give negative personality traits to people who stammer (Ruscello et al 1989). The purpose of this

the intervention they are able to provide and what elements impact on this. The focus will be on the

In addition, this study focuses on clinician attitudes in general towards children who stammer and
doesn t specifically look at their views on therapy for this client group. Therefore, this proposed study
aims to build on the research carried out by Critchton Smith and focus on the therapy and intervention
for children who stammer.
Another study that has previously considered this subject is Cooper et al 1996 which looked at
clinician s attitudes towards stutterers and what they do in therapy with clients who stutter. However
this study was carried out with Speech and Language therapists in the USA, therefore the proposed
study will be carried out with British speech therapists as the attitudes may be very different to those
in the USA and may also have changed over the last 20 years after the introduction of various training

thought that therapy for school aged children would be ineffective if they had no early intervention
(Cooper et al 1996) Therefore in this study it would be useful to see if therapist s attitudes have
changed towards providing therapy for those who have not had early intervention.
Therefore, after considering the previous literature the justification for carrying out this study would

Humanist Movement During The Middle Ages
The tendency of those to look towards a higher being for guidance has been part of human nature
since the birth of religion. This tendency has made religion a cornerstone of human civilization, and a
subject of focus throughout history. During the Middle Ages, the works of John Wycliff and Jan Hus
sought to reform the church and return power to its followers. This self empowerment through the
reformation of their religious studies fathered core beliefs of the Humanism movement during the
Renaissance. This movement uses the work of Wycliff and Hus to establish their own ideas about how
to use scripture, and gives merit to the significance of the Middle Ages. John Wycliff, an English
scholar and theologian, believed that the most important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important piece of literature to humanists was the bible, and the translation of it was crucial to
humanist learning. The power of a translated bible, shown by Wycliff and Hus, was realized by many
humanists during the Renaissance such as Desiderius Erasmus. Erasmus, a dutch humanist, believed
in the power of a translated bible and in his writings he expresses his wish that even the weakest
woman should read the gospel should read the epistles of Paul. And I wish these were translated into
all languages so that they might be read and understood, not only by scots and Irishmen, but also by
Turks and Saracens. (McKay 371) This call for the translation of scripture into all languages showed
Erasmus s fundamental idea that Education in the Bible...is the means to reform, the key to moral and
intellectual improvement. (McKay 371) The translation of the bible, like in the case of Wycliff and
Hus, allowed the common literate population to be freed from the constraints of the church, and
formulate their own ideas about christianity. This idea was made plausible through the printing press,
which allowed books to be produced and distributed at a much faster rate, and gave it legs to stand on.
Erasmus, one of many who called for reform in the church during the Renaissance, brought this key
humanistic idea to the

The Museum Of Fine Art
The Museum of Fine Art in Houston, Texas has a variety of art collections. To be precise, the canopic
jar is mounted on a large pedestal among other sculptures. This Canopic Jar was made in Egypt during
the dynasty XXVI, 664 525 B.C. It was made from limestone. The jar was masterfully carved from
stone and subsequently painted over. It is a historical masterpiece and it is relatively in good
condition. Such stone jars were used to house the organs of the deceased. Their organs were put in
these canopic jars during the mummification process. The lids of these stone jars have a human face.
The faces were carved to represent the four sons of the god Horus. The three dimensional jar is solid
and quite large. It is well displayed in a spacious environment. The lid of the jar is organic due to the
life like face that stares back at the viewer. The rest of the jar is cylindrical with graceful proportions.
The size of the jar interpenetrates with the surrounding space. It turns in space and it was meant to be
viewed from several points of view. Its cylindrical nature makes the viewer s eye wander all around its
form to take in its splendor. Contour lines have been used to make the gentle outline of the jar, giving
it a closed silhouette. The dominant linear elements have been incised on the surface of the jar.
Beautifully crafted hieroglyphic inscriptions can be seen on the middle of the jar. The contour outline
of the jar makes it have a volumetric presence. There are traces of

Transportation And Warehouse Management Essay
Transportation and Warehouse Management
SUMMARY
The report is on how transportation and warehouse management plays a vital role in the supply chain,
different modes of transports that involve in the freight movement from one location to another. The
amount of time to deliver a product to customers will show the effect on company s future, so the
company has to follow some steps to have a better mode of transportation for less cost and delivery
time. The primary objective of this project is to show how the transportation and warehouse
management systems are used to overcome the problems that are faced in transportation and storage
quickly and some of the key elements in WMS and TMS.
Transportation management:
Globalization has increased the importance and role of transportation in supply chain management.
Transportation plays a vital role in increasing the Gross Domestic product. It involves the movement
of the manufactured product from one location to the another location or the customer safely.
Transportation plays a vital role in the supply chain because the probability of using the produced
product on the same site is almost negligible. Now, transportation is one of the primary factors which
can affect the economy of the company when it is not efficient, safe and reliable. Delivering the
products on time directly to the customers has been increasing significantly in these recent years
which can be accomplished only with transportation management, resulting

Reflection Of A Watcher In The Classroom
For this lesson I started with having the students gather in the library in order to read the story to them.
The students have a word watcher that they use when they are reading their books. The word watcher
is a plastic candy cane and I used that for this lesson to activate prior knowledge. I held up the candy
cane and asked the students what they see. I had some students comment that there is a red strip on the
candy cane. The students also noticed a white strip, and then they noticed that the red and white create
a pattern. I asked where is the pattern on the candy cane, and they showed that the red and white strips

them get out their scissors and liquid glue. Once the students had everything out, I told them to hold
their hands up so I could see that they were ready. I used this classroom management strategy so that I
could clearly see who was ready. I had created a candy cane so that I could do the activity with the
students so they could clearly see what needed to be done. I started by having the students cut the red
strips. It was interesting to see how students did this. Some would cut straight across, and some
students would have cuts that were slanted. As the students were cutting I was walking around and
was commenting and how their candy canes were looking so far. I had the students place all the red
pieces on the white candy cane. Once most students were finished I told them to take off every other
red strip. I told the students that it is really important for the element of space that you leave the red
pieces where they where. This will add the element of line into our candy cane. After that I had the
students glue down the pieces. Once the pieces were glued on I had the students take the brown square
and cut out a circle for the head. Then the students were told to put eyes and a mouth on the circle. It

Glass Menagerie Disadvantages
The Glass Menagerie Essays Prompt One The characters in The Glass Menagerie are theorized to be
based off of people in Tennessee Williams s life. The Wingfield family are supposedly similar to
Tennessee s own kin. With that, all of the characters in the play have their strong points and
weaknesses in their personalities. Tom, the son in the Wingfield family, works in a warehouse. He
dreams of adventure and longs for some sense of purpose beyond the town that he lives in. Although
he takes care of his family s financial stability, he clashes with them constantly. Tom and his mother,
Amanda, argue very often, for example when he gets irritated by her interrupting his writing. Tom
rants, Look, Mother I haven t got a thing, not a single thing left in this house that I can call my own,
(1.3). Tom lets all of his anger out at once, building it up until the moment he snaps. Instead of settling
his problems in his life at home assertively, he claims to go to the movies, only coming back after
hours of being away. However, this is classified as a positive trait. It s better for him to calm down and
settle the issues later on, when he won t risk saying something impulsive or upsetting. When he gets
home after his trips to the movies one night, he speaks to his mother after she claims she will not
speak to him again, I m sorry, Mother. I m sorry for all those things I said. I didn t mean it. I
apologize, (1.5). Another positive trait about Tom is his gentleness towards Laura. When he converses
with her, his guard is let down and speaks to her kindly. Even though he tries to appear bleak on the
outside, once he opens up he shows his softer, more careful side. Amanda, the mother of Laura and
Tom, can be very absent minded and in her own world of expectations. She refers back to her time as
a young woman and focuses on getting a gentleman caller for Laura; she s even more interested in
having the gentleman caller for herself rather than Laura. Amanda struggles with giving her children
what they want, refusing to accept the fact that Tom wants to leave and adventure out into the world.
Because of this, she causes a lot of family conflict, stating later on in the play, My devotion has made

Satre s Criticism Of Psychoanlytes
Words (1967) is an autobiography written by Jean Paul Satre. It tells the story of Satre s struggles with
gender polarities during his childhood, and the discovery of his sense of self through writing.
Throughout the entirety of the narrative, Satre s is shown trying to live existentially, which is his
notion of philosophy. The tenets of existentialism that will be included in this essay are the notions of
not living in bad faith , the belief that individuals are essentially free, and that there is no such thing as
the unconscious. Satre s notions of existentialism go against psychoanalytic criticism. Thus in this
essay I shall argue that it is appropriate to use psychoanalytic criticism to analyse Words, particularly
in relation to Satre s relationship with his mother and his grandfather. Psychoanalytic criticism is often
used in literary analysis because of its emphasis on interpretation. Interpretation, which includes the
process of deciphering and analysing, allows the discovery of hidden meanings that can be found in
the literature. Such hidden meanings can be found by either focusing on the literature itself, or on the
author. From the two types of psychoanalytic theories, for this ... Show more content on

Reflection Paper On Endometriosis
Endometriosis, if not diagnosed in time, could be a fatal disease that could lead to cancer. January
2003, was the day I received the devastating news that would change my life forever. My gynecologist
informed me that I was eat up with Endometriosis and had no choice but to accept a complete
hysterectomy. No one knows my body like me, so I knew that something was amiss when I was
having menstrual cycles that just did not seem normal, not to mention the excruciating pain that I
received every month along with it. I have performed a great deal of research and along with my
personal story with Endometriosis, this is what I found. Living with The Effects of Endometriosis In
2002, I met my husband and as time went on, we decided that we would do whatever it took to have
another baby. For most couples, it has been just a matter of the conception part of it. It was not going
to be that easy for us because I had already had my tubes cut and burned so they said. However, we
were not going to let that stop us. As time went on I had started doing research on the process that we
would have to go through to make this dream come true. There were many trips back and forth to the
doctor s office. Depo shots that cost around $1800 and still, before we knew it, I was having
laparoscopic surgery done to what we thought would get rid of the Endometriosis.
We just knew that it would be all it would take to fix everything. Each time I had it done, it came back
worse than before. After 3 times, once a month, it was time to give up and get the bad news. When the
final test results came back from the last surgery, my doctor called to tell me that I needed to go to her
office so she could go over the results with me. I was scared, but yet, excited. The news I got was
forever life changing, she told me that at this point, my insides looked like a spider had been inside of
me and webbed all of my female organs together and she had done all she knew to do and now it has
come down to 2 choices, I could have a complete hysterectomy, or die. On February 5th, 2003, I went
in for surgery at the Moore Regional Medical Center. Not thinking about the fact that it would send
me into instant menopause, it was nothing but misery for

A complex between crystal violet and iodine (CV I) is formed within the cell. The structure that
determines the Gram reaction is the cell wall structure and not that shape. Bacillus cereus and
Staphylococcus aureus are stained purple in the Gram staining as they have a high amount of
peptidoglycan which forms the outer layer of the cell. This thick peptidoglycan layer is able to trap the
purple CV I complex even after alcohol treatment. Escherichia coli is stained pink in the Gram
staining and it is a Gram negative bacteria. Gram negative bacterias usually have a thin peptidoglycan
layer compared to Gram positive bacterias. The peptidoglycan layer is located between the plasma
membrane and an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and this outer layer is dissolved
during the alcohol treatment which results in a loss of the CV I complex, hence the pink safranin
counterstain is trapped by the peptidoglycan layer (ASM, 2004). Gram staining allows us to observe
the characteristics and cell size, shape and arrangement. For Bacillus cereus, endospores were also
viewed during microscopic observation. During Gram staining, the most crucial step in determining
the outcome is the decolourisation by alcohol step. If alcohol is applied too long, the alcohol may
wash all the CV I complex that is trapped in peptidoglycan layer. Therefore, alcohol is only applied
for 30 seconds

Treatise On Pornography
An Open Secret: A Treatise on Pornography
In the 1980s in America, a war raged. There were casualties and broken lives. What transpired during
that war changed the face of America for generations. This was not a war between countries however;
this was a war between women: what they called the The Feminist Sex Wars . Anti porn feminists led
by Andrea Dworkin debated with pro sex feminists on subjects such as prostitution, erotica, and
pornography and their position within feminism and our society. Dworkin and her supporters argued
that these were products of a patriarchal society, that these were extremely harmful toward the image
and status of women. Others such as Susie Bright argue that prostitution and pornography can be
feminist or empowering to women, and are not intrinsically harmful. In this paper, I will endorse the

  • 2. Compare And Contrast George And Lennie In Of Mice And Men Of Mice and Men is a novella written by John Steinbeck in 1937. Steinbeck gave us in this story a vivid view of the style of life after the world crisis in ninety twenty nine; People were trying to survive by working in ranches. At the time, even Steinbeck himself was a traveler working in ranches. The story in this novella is about two characters who travel together, which was uncommon at the time. George and Lennie were totally opposites in character and their size of body and their capacity of mind. George was small and smart, while Lennie was huge and a sort of mind retarded. Both of them were runaways, because of Lennie who always causes them troubles wherever they find work. From their first day in the new ranch, they started to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he realized that there is no solution, and Lennie is going to be lynched in any case, he decided to take the burden onto him and do it himself. George decided to do it by himself, because his way was more merciful and quieter than lynching; he went before the guys to Lennie and showed him that he is not angry about him this time; he even narrates to him his favorite story, about them having a ranch full of rabbits and animals, after he finishes the story he told Lennie that he loves him and he put the gun behind Lennie s head and shot him dead quietly while Lennie was happy. George then decided to kill him and save him from his miserable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Michael Merrill Assignment 2 Analysis The art of Michael Merrill has always been seeking to subvert the established system of art. Merrill s recent Apartment complex paintings count among his most sophisticated and daring works to date. He chose the subjects to be not the artwork themselves, but rather their situational contexts and architectural details in which they were exhibited. He wanted to paint from experience, rather than from his own experiments in the surreal. As a result, he was inclined towards subjects that were immediately available to him. Merrill convinces the viewers that the artwork depicted is his to interpret. As a part of his Apartment series, Apartment 1, Apartment 2, and Apartment 3 are oil on canvas, finished in 2016. To add, he has related inks on paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will use this newly acquired information to view everyday items differently, to see the beauty behind plain brick walls. I will take in Merrill s way of thinking to ask myself, What was learned? each time I have completed an artwork. This will improve my future techniques and widen my range of perceptions and thoughts. I believe that Michael Merrill was successful in reaching his goal. He wanted to focus on viewing objects in a different way and using light sources to differentiate colour and contrast from night and day. I was unbelievably fascinated with Merrill s way of thinking, as it showed me that there is more than one way to view an object. He so eloquently explained his opinion on his apartment complex that it made me realize that no two people in the world see something the same way. I would consider the building to be not worth of my time to paint, yet Merrill demonstrates his capabilities in a piece of art that I would consider incredible. All of Merrill s artworks are so perfectly done, from every crisp edge, to the shadows, to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The history of Eastern Europe has been marked by migration, foreign conquest, war and revolution. The region is home to a mix of diverse people who have often battled with each other and many foreigners As a buffer and crossroads, Eastern Europe reaches from Central Europe to Russia. Also, it reaches from the Baltic Sea and through the Balkan Peninsula. Much of the region lies on the European plain . Its main rivers, the Danube and the Vistula allowed goods and cultural influences to travel along river routes. This led to the Balkans in the south feeling the impact of the Byzantine empire and the Muslim Ottoman empire. Because of the ease of its accessibility, Eastern Europe was the perfect target for neighboring groups of people, whether they were peaceful or looking to take over. During the Middle Ages, the Slavs spread out from present day Belarus into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prince Boleslaw of Cracow issued a charter to protect the liberties of Jews. In response, Jewish villages were common in Poland. Religious influences and people were spreading at a rapid rate. This caused many kingdoms to develop that would battle for power in the near future. Roman Catholic missionaries converted many West Slavs in Poland in the 900s. The first Polish king was crowned, but to survive, Poland frequently had to battle Germans, Russians, and Mongols. However, political power in Poland shifted to the nobles because of liberum veto or free veto in which the vote of a single nobel could block the passage of a law. Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz Essay Sarah Johnson Personal Response to Survival in Auschwitz Why is the pain of every day translated so constantly into our dreams, in the ever repeated scene of the unlistened to story (Levi, p 60)? I feel confident that these dreams signified just that; that the author (amongst the other survivors) would forever re live those horrors and try tell their stories...and no one listens. The poem at the beginning of the book, Survival in Auschwitz, by Primo Levi, warns us of just this and curses us should we fail to listen. It is imperative that we a global community never forget and forever respect the struggle. I believe that this feeling, of sharing his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Does he not see...Beppo, who is twenty years old and is going to the gas chamber the day after tomorrow and knows it...? If I was God, I would spit at Kuhn s prayer (p129). I thought that Levi s response to Kuhn s prayer was extreme at first, for isn t it customary to give thanks for good fortune? But then as I reflected on this, Levi was absolutely correct. How dare one man thank God for living another day when the man beside him has been condemned? There is no rhyme or reason to it, there is no why in the Lager. It is impossible for them at the time to understand, which is why the law of the camp was do not think . How can we begin to fathom now the how s or why s? It doesn t make sense. Who wants to listen to a story that doesn t make any sense and acknowledge that it could happen all over again? Sometimes, we love to hear the story of a tragedy. For example, some of the most well liked tragedies of all time include Gone with the Wind, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, many of Shakespeare s plays, and a Streetcar Named Desire. These are not only stories though; they have their sadness but throughout there is also hope and there are also morals, these are things to gain by these stories. • 6. Quantitative Study Of Heat And Enthalpy Changes PART A Thermochemistry is the quantitative study of heat and enthalpy changes in chemical reactions. Enthalpy (H) ... is a measure of the total energy possessed by a substance or group of substances. (Smith 2006, pp. 289). The change in enthalpy (∆H) of a substance is defined as the heat absorbed or released during a chemical reaction. A car motor works by converting petrol, also known as chemical energy, to kinetic energy, therefore assisting with the movement of a car. A chemical reaction, known as combustion, occurs in the car motor. A combustion reaction consists of a hydrocarbon reacting with oxygen (O2) to give the products carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). A hydrocarbon is a compound consisting simply of Hydrogen (H2) and Carbon (C), methane (CH4) and diesel (C12H23) are examples of a hydrocarbon. The chemical equation for a combustion reaction is as follows: Hydrocarbon + Oxygen  Carbon Dioxide + Water. The combustion reaction of methane (CH4) is: CH4 (g) + 2O2 (g)  CO2 (g) + 2H2O (l), the combustion reaction of ethane is: 2C2H6 (g) + 7O2 (g)  4 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l) and the combustion reaction for butane is 2C4H10 (g) +13O2 (g)  8CO2 (g) +10H2O (g). If combustion takes place internally, the engine is referred to as an internal combustion engine. A diesel engine is an example of this. Internal combustion engines convert the chemical energy in fuel to mechanical energy via an exothermic reaction. An internal combustion engine, mainly consists of a ... • 7. Primary Endosymbiosis Endosymbiosis is one of the most fascinating concepts we have covered so far. I have heard it said that if our extremely distant ancestor microbe had never engulfed that first mitochondria, life as we know it would not exist, and it seems to me that is probably true. As explained by Avissar et al., at some point around 3.5 billion years ago there was very little molecular oxygen in Earth s atmosphere (2016). Prokaryotes called cyanobacteria evolved to use sunlight as an energy source to break down carbon dioxide. These early prokaryotes were engulfed by other organisms, the earliest of the eukaryotes, in a process called primary endosymbiosis. Such cyanobacteria are still evident in the plastids found in modern eukaryotic plant cells. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second important endosymbiotic event occurred as a result, in the acquisition of mitochondria by the earliest eukaryotes (Avissar et al., 2016). Mitochondria are responsible for aerobic cellular respiration in eukaryotic cells, and for a long time it was believed that they were simply organelles. But much like plastids in photoreactive eukaryotes, the evidence points to mitochondria having been absorbed by early eukaryotes, forming a symbiotic relationship in which the larger cell protected the smaller and provided a ready source of nutrients, and in turn the mitochondria allowed the larger cells to process all of the new molecular oxygen as an energy source to promote glycolysis (Cooper, 2000). Another strong piece of evidence that points to plastids and mitochondria having once been distinct organisms from their eukaryotic hosts is the fact that unlike other cell organelles, they contain their own DNA and reproduce independently (though in sync with) their host cells (Avissar et al., 2016). This was first observed when a biologist noticed that mitchondria seem to move on their own, independent of the host cell s movement. Clearly this arrangement has been a winning one, since the results of these kinds of endosymbiosis have persisted and evolved for billions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Develops commercial method to polarize light It had been known since the eighteenth century that certain kinds of crystals (clear colorless glasses of superior quality) could affect the direction of light waves. In his effort to develop a method for polarizing light, Land was searching for a crystal that could not only reduce glare but was stable and economical enough to be produced commercially. He conceived the idea of two plates that would absorb the light waves that were not wanted and transmit those that were. He then succeeded in aligning millions of microscopic iodine crystals in one direction, thus creating the first polarizer. Cardiac Arrest And The Effects Of Epinephrine Essay Cardiac Arrest and The Effects of Epinephrine in Pre hospital Setting Sudden cardiac arrest is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. When this occurs the blood flow stops to the brain and vital organs. Sudden cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack or myocardial infarction. A heart attack is when the blood flow to part of the heart is blocked. Without early intervention on average 360,000 people out of the hospital succumb to cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest and sudden death account for 60 percent of all deaths from coronary artery disease , (Bledsoe, Porter, Cherry, 2011,2007,2004, p. 1229)There are several causes of sudden cardiac arrest. Most are caused by ventricular fibrillation. During ventricular fibrillation, the ventricles do not beat normally. Instead they quiver rapidly and irregularly. When this occurs, the heart pumps very little and blood does not get circulated throughout the body. Most of the cases found with sudden cardiac death are related to undetected cardiovascular disease.( Sudden Cardiac Death, 2015, para. 2)Sudden cardiac arrest are immediate and drastic that includes sudden collapse, no pulse, not breathing, and loss of consciousness. According to Webster s New World Dictionary, a hero is defined as any person, male or female, admired for courage, nobility, etc. (Webster s New World Dictionary, hero 1 ). Webster s Pocket Dictionary, comparably, defines a hero as a person of great courage, spirit, etc., especially one who has undergone great danger or difficulty (Webster s Pocket Dictionary, hero 3 ). Heroes are not born heroes. Yes, everyone is born with the ability to be a hero, but in time, they may or may not become one. In our society, heroes are greatly acclaimed in the media. Whenever some person takes a bullet for a loved one or saves a child from a burning building, there is a huge deal made about it, and they become known as heroes. But a person does not have to physically save someone s life to be a hero. A hero can also be someone who simply stands up for what he or she believes. Much like Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, a hero can be someone who knows what is right and does the right thing, even if he is ridiculed for doing so. Also, whether or not a person is a hero depends on the perspective of the person. For instance, a little girl may think her father is the greatest man alive, but her first grade classmate does not think so instead, she thinks her father is a hero. The Negative Effects Of Corporal Punishment On Children Among the various forms of children punishments, corporal punishment has been revealed to be an ineffective form of correction due to the negative consequences associated with it. Corporal punishment involves subjecting children to physical pain as a corrective measure to prevent them from engaging in inappropriate behaviors. This is a type of power assertive method of discipline where children are subjected to punishments without explanation or justification. They grow up in fear of the consequences of corporal punishment rather than understanding the right from the wrong. The consequences associated with physical punishment include both physical and emotional abuse that has adverse effects on the growth and development of children. As a result of corporal punishments, children are often left with disabilities or bad medical conditions in case of injuries during punishment. The children are also abused emotionally through the vulgar language that is often used by the parents during the administration of the punishments. This physical and emotional abuses that children are subjected to makes them lead a disturbed life in future. What´s Neonatal Jaundice Neonatal jaundice is a common finding in the primary care setting, as almost all newborn infants will develop an increased level of total serum or plasma bilirubin (TB) presenting as jaundice (Wong Bhutani, 2013). The identification and treatment of severe neonatal jaundice is necessary to prevent acute bilirubin encephalopathy and the chronic and permanent complication, kernicterus (American Academy of Pediatrics [AAP], 2004). The laboratory implications for management of unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia in term and late term infants ( 35 weeks gestation) after discharge home will now be discussed. Risk assessment for jaundice should be performed on an infant before discharge from the hospital, using TB or transcutaneous bilirubin and/or assessment of risk factors. Therefore, if the TB is plotted on a nomogram prior to discharge, the PNP will have an idea about the infants risk for developing hyperbilirubinemia at the initial newborn visit and can guide the need for laboratory evaluation. If this is not available, the PNP should be aware of major risk factors for the development of hyperbilirubinemia including jaundice present in the first 24 hours of life, blood group incompatibility, gestational age of 35 36 weeks, sibling history of phototherapy, cephalohematoma or significant bruising, exclusive breastfeeding, and East Asian race (AAP, 2004). • 22. Relationship Between the Study of Heat and Kinetic Theory... Heat, Kinetic Theory of Matter, and Temperature: In all scientific areas, heat and temperature are significant concepts, especially in a student s daily life and activities. Moreover, people deal with heat and temperature in their day to day experiences though several households have significant misconceptions about these concepts. The study and examination of heat and temperature is important because it provides students with a means for exploring energy interactions in order to see the process with which thermal energy is transferred. As a result of the investigations, students obtain knowledge on the greater idea of conservation of energy. While temperature is described as a measure of average kinetic energy of a substance, heat is regarded as the wild motion of molecules in a substance (Chalfant, Peyron Raschke, 2005). Relationship between the Study of Heat and Kinetic Theory of Matter: Unlike the kinetic theory of matter, the study of heat is described and explained through science. The kinetic theory of matter basically explains the differences between the three states of matter while stating that every matter consists of moving particles that are usually atoms or molecules. These particles are strongly bound to each other making them to only vibrate but not move to a different location in solids ( Kinetic Theory of Matter , n.d.). In the lines, Beckett incorporates themes of existentialism and the loss of hope. Throughout the two acts of the play, the main protagonists, Vladimir and Estragon, spend their days waiting aimlessly for a mysterious figure named Godot. While central in the play, Godot never makes an appearance in any act, and merely exists as a name. While Pozzo and Lucky, two other characters make their appearance in each act of the play, the boy is perhaps the most mysterious and intriguing. The boy, whom appears towards the end of each act, exemplifies the never ending cycle of the search for hope that remains unfulfilled through the use of symbolism, ... Asking the boy about Godot, Vladimir asks, What does he do, Mr. Godot? Do you hear me? (106), to which the boy merely replies as He does nothing, Sir (106). Thus, the futile nature of hope is depicted through Beckett s use of symbolism. As Godot symbolizes hope, and the boy stated that He (Godot) does nothing... (106), this hints the redundant existence of hope. Rather, it is merely something individuals rely on to keep living, as for the case of Vladimir and Estragon, who continuously wait for Godot. While they contemplate suicide many times throughout the book, it is their motivation and continuous strive to wait for Godot that keeps them living to the next day. It may be made from vegetable oils, animal fats, or both. Shortenings are used for may purposes, so manufacturers have formulated various kinds of fats with various properties. (Gisslen, 2013) All Purpose Shortening Also known as regular shortening, have a tough, waxy texture, and small particles of the fat tend to hold their shape in a dough or batter. They are called plastic shortenings, which means they are moldable at room temperature. They have a good creaming ability. Which means that a good quantity of air can be mixed into them to give a batter lightness and leavening power. This type of shortening melts only at a high temperature. ... High Ratio Shortening These are soft shortenings that spread easily throughout a batter and quickly coat the particles of sugar and flour. The are call high ratio because they were devised for use in cake batter that contain a high ratio of sugar and liquid to flour. They also contain added emulsifying agents, so they can hold a larger quantity of liquid and sugar than regular shortenings. Which gives a smoother and finer texture to cake and make them moister. Commonly referred to as emulsifying shortening. High ratio shortening does not cream well. When a recipe calls for creaming shortening and sugar, regular shortening should be used. High ratio shortening is often used in icings because it can hold more sugar and liquid without curdling. It is more temperature stable and will hold air better upon whipping, improving volume and stability. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I get out of bed just to be attacked by two furry blurs trying to lick my face and showing me how much they love me. I know that I have a long day ahead of me but I have no idea what I should do. I could go to the beach and feel the soft sand in between my toes or go to a store and prepare a nice dinner for myself. So much time in a day, but I don t have a clue on how to spend it. Living in California is wonderful, but it doesn t give me the culture that I am looking for. Therefore, this proposed study aims to build on the research carried out by Critchton Smith and focus on the therapy and intervention for children who stammer. Another study that has previously considered this subject is Cooper et al 1996 which looked at clinician s attitudes towards stutterers and what they do in therapy with clients who stutter. However this study was carried out with Speech and Language therapists in the USA, therefore the proposed study will be carried out with British speech therapists as the attitudes may be very different to those in the USA and may also have changed over the last 20 years after the introduction of various training via Michael Palin and the Lidcombe centre. The cooper study also outlined that 30% of therapists thought that therapy for school aged children would be ineffective if they had no early intervention (Cooper et al 1996) Therefore in this study it would be useful to see if therapist s attitudes have changed towards providing therapy for those who have not had early intervention. This tendency has made religion a cornerstone of human civilization, and a subject of focus throughout history. During the Middle Ages, the works of John Wycliff and Jan Hus sought to reform the church and return power to its followers. This self empowerment through the reformation of their religious studies fathered core beliefs of the Humanism movement during the Renaissance. This movement uses the work of Wycliff and Hus to establish their own ideas about how to use scripture, and gives merit to the significance of the Middle Ages. An important piece of literature to humanists was the bible, and the translation of it was crucial to humanist learning. The power of a translated bible, shown by Wycliff and Hus, was realized by many humanists during the Renaissance such as Desiderius Erasmus. Erasmus, a dutch humanist, believed in the power of a translated bible and in his writings he expresses his wish that even the weakest woman should read the gospel should read the epistles of Paul. And I wish these were translated into all languages so that they might be read and understood, not only by scots and Irishmen, but also by Turks and Saracens. (McKay 371) This call for the translation of scripture into all languages showed Erasmus s fundamental idea that Education in the Bible...is the means to reform, the key to moral and intellectual improvement. (McKay 371) The translation of the bible, like in the case of Wycliff and Hus, allowed the common literate population to be freed from the constraints of the church, and formulate their own ideas about christianity. This idea was made plausible through the printing press, which allowed books to be produced and distributed at a much faster rate, and gave it legs to stand on. This Canopic Jar was made in Egypt during the dynasty XXVI, 664 525 B.C. It was made from limestone. The jar was masterfully carved from stone and subsequently painted over. It is a historical masterpiece and it is relatively in good condition. Such stone jars were used to house the organs of the deceased. Their organs were put in these canopic jars during the mummification process. The lids of these stone jars have a human face. The faces were carved to represent the four sons of the god Horus. The three dimensional jar is solid and quite large. It is well displayed in a spacious environment. The lid of the jar is organic due to the life like face that stares back at the viewer. • 33. Glass Menagerie Disadvantages The Glass Menagerie Essays Prompt One The characters in The Glass Menagerie are theorized to be based off of people in Tennessee Williams s life. The Wingfield family are supposedly similar to Tennessee s own kin. With that, all of the characters in the play have their strong points and weaknesses in their personalities. Tom, the son in the Wingfield family, works in a warehouse. He dreams of adventure and longs for some sense of purpose beyond the town that he lives in. Although he takes care of his family s financial stability, he clashes with them constantly. Tom and his mother, Amanda, argue very often, for example when he gets irritated by her interrupting his writing. Tom rants, Look, Mother I haven t got a thing, not a single thing left in this house that I can call my own, (1.3). Tom lets all of his anger out at once, building it up until the moment he snaps. Instead of settling his problems in his life at home assertively, he claims to go to the movies, only coming back after hours of being away. However, this is classified as a positive trait. It s better for him to calm down and settle the issues later on, when he won t risk saying something impulsive or upsetting. When he gets home after his trips to the movies one night, he speaks to his mother after she claims she will not speak to him again, I m sorry, Mother. I m sorry for all those things I said. I didn t mean it. I apologize, (1.5). Another positive trait about Tom is his gentleness towards Laura. When he converses with her, his guard is let down and speaks to her kindly. Even though he tries to appear bleak on the outside, once he opens up he shows his softer, more careful side. Amanda, the mother of Laura and Tom, can be very absent minded and in her own world of expectations. She refers back to her time as a young woman and focuses on getting a gentleman caller for Laura; she s even more interested in having the gentleman caller for herself rather than Laura. Amanda struggles with giving her children what they want, refusing to accept the fact that Tom wants to leave and adventure out into the world. Because of this, she causes a lot of family conflict, stating later on in the play, My devotion has made me a witch and so I make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Satre s Criticism Of Psychoanlytes Words (1967) is an autobiography written by Jean Paul Satre. It tells the story of Satre s struggles with gender polarities during his childhood, and the discovery of his sense of self through writing. Throughout the entirety of the narrative, Satre s is shown trying to live existentially, which is his notion of philosophy. The tenets of existentialism that will be included in this essay are the notions of not living in bad faith , the belief that individuals are essentially free, and that there is no such thing as the unconscious. Satre s notions of existentialism go against psychoanalytic criticism. Thus in this essay I shall argue that it is appropriate to use psychoanalytic criticism to analyse Words, particularly in relation to Satre s relationship with his mother and his grandfather. Psychoanalytic criticism is often used in literary analysis because of its emphasis on interpretation. Interpretation, which includes the process of deciphering and analysing, allows the discovery of hidden meanings that can be found in the literature. Such hidden meanings can be found by either focusing on the literature itself, or on the author. From the two types of psychoanalytic theories, for this ... January 2003, was the day I received the devastating news that would change my life forever. My gynecologist informed me that I was eat up with Endometriosis and had no choice but to accept a complete hysterectomy. No one knows my body like me, so I knew that something was amiss when I was having menstrual cycles that just did not seem normal, not to mention the excruciating pain that I received every month along with it. I have performed a great deal of research and along with my personal story with Endometriosis, this is what I found. Living with The Effects of Endometriosis In 2002, I met my husband and as time went on, we decided that we would do whatever it took to have another baby. For most couples, it has been just a matter of the conception part of it. It was not going to be that easy for us because I had already had my tubes cut and burned so they said. However, we were not going to let that stop us. As time went on I had started doing research on the process that we would have to go through to make this dream come true. There were many trips back and forth to the doctor s office. Depo shots that cost around $1800 and still, before we knew it, I was having laparoscopic surgery done to what we thought would get rid of the Endometriosis. We just knew that it would be all it would take to fix everything. Each time I had it done, it came back worse than before. After 3 times, once a month, it was time to give up and get the bad news. When the final test results came back from the last surgery, my doctor called to tell me that I needed to go to her office so she could go over the results with me. I was scared, but yet, excited. The news I got was forever life changing, she told me that at this point, my insides looked like a spider had been inside of me and webbed all of my female organs together and she had done all she knew to do and now it has come down to 2 choices, I could have a complete hysterectomy, or die. On February 5th, 2003, I went in for surgery at the Moore Regional Medical Center. Not thinking about the fact that it would send me into instant menopause, it was nothing but misery for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A complex between crystal violet and iodine (CV I) is formed within the cell. The structure that determines the Gram reaction is the cell wall structure and not that shape. Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus are stained purple in the Gram staining as they have a high amount of peptidoglycan which forms the outer layer of the cell. This thick peptidoglycan layer is able to trap the purple CV I complex even after alcohol treatment. Escherichia coli is stained pink in the Gram staining and it is a Gram negative bacteria. Gram negative bacterias usually have a thin peptidoglycan layer compared to Gram positive bacterias. The peptidoglycan layer is located between the plasma membrane and an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and this outer layer is dissolved during the alcohol treatment which results in a loss of the CV I complex, hence the pink safranin counterstain is trapped by the peptidoglycan layer (ASM, 2004). Gram staining allows us to observe the characteristics and cell size, shape and arrangement. For Bacillus cereus, endospores were also viewed during microscopic observation. During Gram staining, the most crucial step in determining the outcome is the decolourisation by alcohol step. If alcohol is applied too long, the alcohol may wash all the CV I complex that is trapped in peptidoglycan layer. Therefore, alcohol is only applied for 30 seconds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What transpired during that war changed the face of America for generations. This was not a war between countries however; this was a war between women: what they called the The Feminist Sex Wars . Anti porn feminists led by Andrea Dworkin debated with pro sex feminists on subjects such as prostitution, erotica, and pornography and their position within feminism and our society. Dworkin and her supporters argued that these were products of a patriarchal society, that these were extremely harmful toward the image and status of women. Others such as Susie Bright argue that prostitution and pornography can be feminist or empowering to women, and are not intrinsically harmful. In this paper, I will endorse the view of radical feminists that pornography is harmful, not only for those who appear in it, but those who consume it. Before we explore the topic of pornography and its harms, we must look at what radical feminism is. Radical feminism, the theory espoused by leading critic of pornography Andrea Dworkin, is the idea that women are biological class which oppressed by the dominant class of men. Patriarchal power surrounds women completely, through all media and institutions. According to radical feminists, it is only through the complete destruction of all patriarchal institutions can women truly be free. It is through this lens that the anti porn ...
