Mrs. Dalloway Paper
Mrs. Dalloway Paper
Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was written in 1925, a time filled with many large changes to
civilization. The book was written and set right after the biggest war human kind can remember which
killed millions of people, during the peak of industrialization which caused the mass production of
items and created thousands of new inventions, while modernist arts and thoughts were growing and,
and when national pride was very large for the citizens of the Allied countries in World War I. Virginia
Woolf draws on many aspects of these changes in Mrs. Dalloway, especially on the idea of modernism
which can be defined as new thought, art, and culture. Specifically Woolf focuses on how the new
technologies brought about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This face which so many people believe to be of a famous and important person, causes the citizens
who see it to feel pride for England and its achievements, and to generally feel nationalistic. Another
example in the novel where a modern object causes multiple characters to become emotional is when
Big Ben chimes, here Clarissa is thinking about the effects of the ringing bells, a particular hush, or
solemnity; an indescribably pause; a suspense (4). This shows that another piece of machinery was
capable of evoking emotion from the characters in the book.
Woolf also shows how much more significant nature is in the world of Mrs. Dalloway through all of
the metaphors she uses comparing people to animals and how her characters often think about nature.
In the journal entry, Scissors and Silks, Flowers and Trees, and Geraniums Ruined by the War :
Virginia Woolf s Ecological Critique of Science in Mrs. Dalloway written by Justyna Kostkowska,
Kostkowska argues that, By referring to human experience in natural terms, [Woolf] reinforces the
inseparability of nature and culture, and shows their mutuality (187). This argument becomes more
apparent throughout the book when Woolf compares almost every character to something in nature as
Kostkowska touches on later in her article, An overwhelming

Ronald Reagan s Legacy
Ronald Reagan has one of the most unique background stories of any United States President; Reagan
was an actor for the majority of his life! While attending Eureka College in Illinois, Reagan majored
in economics and sociology; he also played football, ran track, captained the swim team, served as the
student council president and performed in many school productions. After college, Reagan got a job
at the radio station broadcasting sports. Five years later, he signed a contract with Warner Brothers and
appeared in over fifty movies and television shows. Twenty seven years later in 1964, he gave a
speech on behalf of Barry Goldwater and Reagan decided to try his hand in politics. Two years later
Reagan ran for governor of California and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

2,692 missiles were destroyed in ninety four years. On June 12, 1987, Ronald Reagan stood in front of

Did Marco Polo Go To China Case Study
Did Marco Polo go to China? This question has been debated for years, since his book came out in the
1300 s even, some believe that he did make it, like historian Hans Ulrich Vogel. While others, like
Historian Frances Wood believe the furthest he made it was the Black Sea. So, which story is the
correct version? Did he make it to the Khan in China, or did he just base his stories off stories he
heard from other traders? This paper argues that Marco Polo did in fact make it to China.
In Marco Polo s book The Description of the world Polo describes the lands he travelled for 26 years.
As he traveled to these lands very different from Venice there were many new disease opportunities.
Roughly a year into his journey, Marco became ill and had to stay in the mountains of what is present
day Afghanistan for close to a year. After almost 4 years of traveling the Polo s made it to China to the
summer palace of the Great Khan Kublai. Over the years spent in China, Marco was promoted to
governor of a great Chinese city, Hangzhou, and even held an official seat on the Khan s Privy
Council. He spent 16 years in China before his family convinced Khan Kublai to release them from
under his rule. However, before they could return home they had to deliver a Mongol Princess to King
Arghun of Persia along the way. After a harsh journey, only 18 out of the 600 crew and passengers
survived, including the Polos and the princess. When they arrived in Persia they found that King
Arghun had died

Analysis Of Paul Bigelow s The Algiers Motel Incident
If you have a good sized used bookstore in your town, you might find a paperback copy of John
Hersey s 1968 best seller The Algiers Motel Incident, a report on the events at the center of Kathryn
Bigelow s new film. So when the ads claim that Detroit is telling an untold story, what they really
mean is Tis new to thee. And yet I suspect that it will not seem new, nor old, to most audiences only
all too familiar. Bigelow s film is the nearest thing I can think of to an American counterpart of Paul
Greengrass s docudrama Bloody Sunday. In its first act (of three), Bigelow approximates Greengrass s
pseudo verite style, immersing us in the buildup to the 1967 Detroit riots with jumpy immediacy, with
great help from her Zero Dark Thirty editor, William Goldenberg. Over time, we are introduced to the
characters who will converge on the Algiers Motel, including the members of the Dramatics, an
aspiring soul act whose gig at the Fox Theater is abruptly cancelled by the riots; a reckless cop (Will
Poulter) who s allowed back on the streets after shooting a looter in the back despite orders not to fire
at looters; and a security guard (John Boyega) whose uniform gives him some immunity from
suspicion on the part of white police and National Guard troops.
At the Algiers, where the Dramatics crash after their disappointment, we meet a pair of white girls
(Kaitlyn Dever and Hannah Murray) and Carl Cooper (Jason Mitchell), tenant who puts a scare into
the other guests by staging a

Essay on Frank Lucas; American Gangster
Frank Lucas; American Gangster What is the one thing every person, white or black, rich or poor,
American or Hispanic, wants to have plenty of in their possession? If it s green, flimsy paper with
different values on the front then money is the answer. Whether it s 19th Century, 20th Century, or
21st Century, people work, steal, worship money. Human beings aren t always satisfied with the
amount of money they have, so they work harder, steal, rob, or cheat hoping to satisfy their money
obsession. This describes the efforts and actions of an American Gangster named Frank Lucas. Frank
did whatever it took to become rich to provide for his family, driving him to drug trafficking. Despite
being a murdering, lying, threat to the North East ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same goes with Satan. He begins to realize that trying to be on top isn t going to be easy, for now
the thought/ Both of lost happiness and lasting pain/ Torments him. (1. 54 56). Both Frank Lucas and
Satan realizing there power thirst comes with major consequences they didn t expect. Both Satan and
Frank Lucas give the reader and audience an intrigue that is likeable. Frank Lucas has this way of
carrying himself as the man around town, no one messes with him but fear him. That s power that
people are gravitated towards to like, being the center of the world. Also this intrigue rubs off onto
Frank s brothers. They are canceling there dreams in there mind because they want what Frank has,
rich and fame. Satan also has that feature. The way he believes he can be equal to God makes you feel
his confidence. You are intrigued in his decision making and are curious to see if he succeeds. He also
is good at rubbing this business of his to other angels who end up following him. People look up to
them and want what they have. In the end, both Frank Lucas and Satan have the urge to be the most
powerful person, have it all, but don t succeed like they had hoped. Frank Lucas gets caught and put in
jail, and Satan has to keep wishing he could have equaled the Most High (1. 40). While they are both

Summary Of Bernard Goldberg s Bias
Bernard Goldberg is a 72 year old American journalist, author, and political commentator. In the early
1970s, Goldberg worked as a producer and reporter for CBS news. In 2001, Goldberg released his first
book, Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News, which became the number one
New York Times bestseller. In addition to Bias, he has also written four other books Arrogance, 100
People Who Are Screwing Up America, Crazies to the Left of Me, Wimps to the Right, and A
slobbering Love Affair. Goldberg s outstanding journalism has earned him the title as the winner of
fourteen Emmy Awards. Having served nearly thirty years at CBS News, Mr. Goldberg had earned a
reputation as one of the most original writers and thinkers in broadcast journalism. However, when he
observed his own industry, he realized the liberal media had completely missed their mission to give
honest news. After years of sharing his observations and promoting more balanced reportings,
Goldberg soon realized that no one listened because they believed they were doing the right thing. The
liberal bias continued, therefore Bernard Goldberg decided to take the situation into his own hands
and expose the distortion of the media himself. Goldberg s breathtaking and shocking best seller book,
Bias, reveals the close mindedness of the news culture and their mission to entertain rather than share
facts. In Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News, Bernard Goldberg

Social Stigma Of Domestic Violence
The topics in this assignment is mind boggling as much as they are all interesting and have a great
impact for us health providers.
I chose Domestic Violence because of its alarming statistics. The national coalition against domestic
violence reported that on the average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an
intimate partner in the United States and in doing the math, it can equate to more than 10 million
women and men in a given year. With this overwhelming increase in domestic violence cases is a
bigger question of identifying who these patients are given the nature of the problem. The problem
creates a social stigma to those who are affected by it. Abused patients have the tendency to cover up
the situation because

Intelligence Quotient Test Is A Successful Development...
Intelligence Quotient test is a successful development created by French Psychologist Alfred Binet.
The development of the test was made in response to a French public school that wanted a method to
calculate an individual s academic achievement. Binet s test composed a two hour individual
standardized assessment that marks the skills of knowledge and scores measured by the child s mental
age, nonetheless the questions in the Binet Simon test were leveled in difficulty according to age.
(Intelligence Tests) Intelligence Quotient tests is not a test that measures intelligence, rather a test that

Alfred Binet has developed the standardized test to identify learning disabled Parisian children in the
1900s. If it possible to identify those of special needs then, it should hold responsibility today to use
this test to zoom in on the actual needs on the academic success of an individual. For example, the
scores of an individual can configure the placement of a child. The scores, for example can trigger one
s learning disability or another s gifted brain. Also, a score of one hundred and thirty indicates
exceptional intelligence, and a score below seventy translates into mental retardation. The average
score one will strike range from eighty five to one hundred. ( The Advantages of IQ Test. ) These
scores are beneficial in finding the special needs of a child. To illustrate, a child s low score can signal
the child s intake of different instructions. A child may also exceed in some skills like math or English
but lack in other skills hinting the likelihood of a slow learner. Gifted children, who may score well,
can receive special instructions or different placement in classes. ( Knowing Your IQ Is Important. )
Scientists have also used the Intelligence Quotient test to study the human behavior of an individual.
How the individual takes the test benefits the educators in tailoring their teachings to benefit the child

Napoleon s Rise to Power
Napoleon Bonaparte was born Napoleone di Buonaparte in Corsica, August 15, 1769. His family
consisted of his father, a lawyer and member of the Nobility, his mother, his sister and his seven
brothers. He was a small child, and often was teased by his classmates when he was enrolled in
military college at a very early age in 1777, and it is believed that this influenced the determination he
had to win later in life. Later, he went to Ecole Militaire from 1784 to 1785. Also in 1785, his father
died. Even so, he graduated with the rank of second lieutenant. At this time, great things were
expected of Napoleon. However, no one could have guessed that this 16 year old would go on to make
history.

When they finally fought, Napoleon did win, but found the capital in flames. He ordered a retreat, and
while they withdrew, he lost more than 400,000 soldiers to the Russian winter and starvation.
Then, when the army was sufficiently weak, an alliance of Russia, Britain, Austria, and Prussia
ambushed them, easily seizing defeat.
Napoleon returned to France, but the Russian British alliance soon took Paris, and after realizing that
he could not recreate his army, he abdicated and went into exile. King Louis XVI s brother was
allowed to rule again as King Louis XVIII.
However, once King Louis XVIII came to power, many emigrates returned and demanded revenge on
revolutionaries. Napoleon took this chance to return to France as well, where discontented soldiers
welcomed him with open arms. In March 1815, he began to rebuild his army. It took him one hundred
days. However, the British allies acted quickly, and he was crushed in June at the Battle of Waterloo.
The Battle of Waterloo was the infamous conflict that marked the official end of Napoleon s reign. It
pitted Napoleon s Armee du Nord against an army of British allies commanded by the Duke of
Wellington, as well as a Prussian army under Gebhard von Blücher s command. The French army was
easily outnumbered, with their 72,000 men pitted against Britains 68,000 and Prussia s 89,000.
However, Wellington sid that Napoleon was

In the Middle Eastern country of Yemen, a battle is being fought leaving much destruction to

The city of Riyadh was eventually forced to recognize Yemen s republican government.
Now as then, Riyadh sees the struggle in Syria as a defining moment. As the leader of the Sunni
Muslim world, it perceives an opportunity to check what it sees as Iranian plans to encircle the
kingdom with hostile Shiite dominated regimes. As the war has taken on a more sectarian character,
the usually reserved foreign minister, Prince Saud al Faisal, has described Assad s onslaught against
his own people as genocide and Syrian lands as being under occupation a clear reference to the
presence of Iranian and Hezbollah forces.
It is no secret that the Saudis are supplying elements of the Syrian opposition with weapons. They all

willing to do anything, then they must allow Syrians to defend themselves.
The Saudis will use all tools available to oust Assad, while taking measures to ensure that the weapons

about the inability of the Arab nations to put a stop to Assad s campaign through force of arms, adding
that any military effort to do so would likely involve actors outside the region. Recent suggestions that

an organization cannot implement and cascade its strategy throughout the company, they may

Kaplan and David P. Norton stated that the balanced scorecard is defined as the translation of an
organization s mission and strategy into a comprehensive set of performance measures that provides
the framework for a strategic measurement and management system. (Kaplan, R.S. and Norton, D.P.
1996) In the beginning of the introduction of the balance scorecard, the Activity Based Costing or the
ABC Approach was introduced by Johnson and Kaplan. Because of this, the organizations were able
to move organizations away from the financially biased measurement to a more balanced approach
that are related to the four perspectives of an organization s success which are the financial, customer,
internal processes and learning and growth. To make the balance scorecard accurate, the
organizational management team in lines the mission, vision, and strategy of the company into the
scorecard. This depicts the long term and short term success of the strategy. The outcome measures of
the balanced scorecard must represent the excellent prior performance and the performance drivers
that lead to the successful and accurate performance. (Kaplan, R. S. and Norton, D. P.

David Foster Wallace On Life And Work
David Foster Wallace widely considered one of the most brilliant writers of his generation. He

attention on what is going on in every day life. Also Wallace critiques people for thinking that the
world revolves only around them and disrespect other because of that. I find myself agreeing with the

these theories relate to me, my own goals of who I want to be in the class, at this university and also

Global Warming And Its Impact On Our Earth
In many parts of the world, there are an abundance of factors that add to the destruction of our Earth.
These issues include air, water, and environmental problems that we, as a global society, contribute to
everyday. These concerns create major impacts that pertains to much of the globe and the world in
which we inhabit today, compared to the world we lived in 50 years ago. Frequent statements that
contribute to the overall thought of global warming include the following: how the community
supplies detrimental factors to the Earth to cause global warming, and how can the community
contribute to the repair of our vanishing Earth. Global warming is a serious issue facing everyone on
our Earth. There are ways to decrease this threat, but if they are not implemented soon, there will be
irrevocable consequences to our Earth. This topic needs to be addressed immediately in order to
preserve what we have left of our Earth.
Global warming is the gradual heating of Earth s surface, oceans and atmosphere (Bradford). This
issue has been a constant worry around the world for as long as the world has been around, along with
humans occupying it. Many people tend to believe that global warming is an issue that cannot be
solved. However, this is a false accusation about the overall health and condition of our world, due to
how society views global warming. Global warming affects our entire world. Air, water, and

Analysis on Atheism
To be honest with you I think some of McCloskey questions of the existence of God are based and as
a Christian I know I have questioned the existence of God at one point in my life. I had to really learn
the hard way. From the article one can see that McCloskey is trying very hard to dismiss every claim
of the theistic view. From the videos on blackboard, when someone decides to prove something or
someone, then that means there is certainty and assurance that thing is absolutely true. The truth of the
matter is that we cannot prove one hundred percent of the existence of God and that is why an Atheist
like McCloskey would say that without evidence then there is no God. McCloskey try s his best to
scientifically prove that the creation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that every argument is defeasible. I think that the reason that McCloskey is saying this is
because he is arguing the God of the bible and not the minimalistic ideal of God. Everyone is entitled
to believe what he or she wants to believe, he saying that the cosmological argument, does not entitle
us to an all powerful and all perfect God but that still does not disvalue the rational of there being a
God in the first place and I believe that makes his statement meaningless in disproving the necessity
and presence of God.
When it comes to the teleological argument, McCloskey also claims that the teleological argument
lacks premises due to similar reasons as the cosmological argument. In short both arguments do not
prove God as a designer. In his mind, this argument is faulty because it does not show enough
evidence for the existence of God. What he means when he argues for a genuine indisputable example
of design of the universe is that he desired to see obvious proof for the existence of God. He disagrees
with the fact that it is impossible to proof something with one hundred evidence. In Evans and Manis,
when they talk about some noticeable evidences that prove the existence of God in Philosophy of
religion, they said that the way in which nature and the universe is organized and structured there must

Founder of the BPP, Huey P. Newton, developed the theory of intercommunalism that created a new
understanding of American capitalism that had essentially reached the point where there no longer

by common causes that united them across national boundaries against a common enemy: the U.S.

context.

The role of black women was often relegated to menial tasks. However, the vital role that women
played in black radicalism cannot be denied. Had women been understood beyond threats to black
manhood, their roles as leaders could have taken black self determination further. Their lack of

The Enchanted Ground
While at Vanity Fair, Faithfulness was caught and was killed (Bunyan The Pilgrim s Progress 158).
Christian was able to escape and was reminded that day that we as Christ followers need to be ready
for anything including death in order to make a difference in the world. As Christian moves on he
meets another man named Hope. Hope was an encouragement to Christian because he stressed that
now he is changed and he relies only on Christ for his strength (Bunyan The Pilgrim s Progress 158).
While they are together they talk about their journeys up to this point and both realize that they had
actually met the same old wise man and were directed in the same place. They ponder at what the man
had told them and were able to remember that he had told them that two was better than one because
the one is more open to temptation. They find this advice to be helpful especially as they enter into the

Socialization In Lord Of The Flies
The novel centers on the topic of peer socialization and takes place on an unsupervised and isolated
island, which successfully illustrates the influence of the peer group on shaping both positive and
negative aspects of the characters behaviors (Golding, 1962). Children s interaction with peers
becomes their primary form of socialization as they approach adolescence, which emphasizes the role
of social support and identification, friendship, and social comparison (Ellis Zarbatany, 2007). Social

He is motivated through the responsibility to satisfy group benefits and the need of autonomy (Harris,
1995). As the result, he behaves accordingly to his social role in order ensure group stability through
internalizing the norms (Harris, 1995). However, Ralph s group collapses as he fails to suppress Jack s
aggression and savagery (Golding, 1962). In addition, Piggy acts as a mediator, who is actively
engaging in the group activities and maintaining efficient group functioning (Golding, 1962).
However, he holds too much personal belief with the moral judgment; therefore, he becomes the target
of the bullying and gets excluded from the group (Golding, 1962). In comparison to Ralph, Jack
values his desires with priority rather than group functioning, which allows him to become malicious
and engage in delinquent behaviors (Golding, 1962). Evidently, he successfully persuades most of the
boys to join his tribe for nutrition and protection from the beast (Golding, 1962). As he develops
similar group value with the boys, he is able to conquer Ralph, takes over his authority, and destroys
the pre existing democratic rules (Golding, 1962). Overall, the characters are able to select their own
group and construct their social identity through exploring all possible groups at very young age of
life (Harris, 1995). Most importantly, their experiences with peer groups are responsible for shaping
their behaviors and most of the variability of future

get into physical fights, be hostile, and show aggression towards their peers. (Carter 32) Video games
are known as time wasters to parents, and worse, these games can corrupt the brain. Furthermore,
when playing violent video games kids can attach the game into their personal life. Some games can
teach kids wrong values. Playing violent video games can cause aggression, bullying, and depression
in kids.
Aggression is caused by playing violent video games. When aggression is built up in a kid is caused
by the difficulty of the game. When the difficulty of the game is increased so are the levels. Then, as
the levels increase, becoming angry, means that the game has the player. Always about wanting more
than what they already have. Next, when the kid can t reach the goal causing them to lose will make
the children try again and again causing their adrenaline to speed up due to the hyperactive role
causing aggressive behavior to the player. In addition, aggressive behavior can be caused by winning
too. This can affect kids who have an addiction to playing violent video games, because when kids
win they seem to try to show off to their opponent player.

Buying a New Home
This paper will address what to consider when buying a new home and what affects like marginal
benefit, marginal cost, strength of the economy, domestic economy, and international trade, can have
on situations and the conditions when making a decision to purchase a home. The principles of
economics can directly relate to the purchase of a house, because you must consider all the possible
affects your decision might have and the principles do a great job at helping you be more analytical
with your decision and your reasoning to buy. When you consider marginal benefit to a home
purchase you will be considering the benefit as a consumer you will have over the housing market of

This value of U.S. currency does affect company profits, their budgeting, as well as manufacturing
costs. There are ramifications from a decrease in value of the dollar, examples are; capital investment,
multiple plant openings and closings. Because many companies over time have outsourced work to
foreign companies because the cost to employ people is cheaper, but the dollar has decrease in value
which is returning the factories or call centers back to the U.S. International trade is very important to
our domestic economy as it does decrease the value and power of the dollar, which will then change
our ability to afford things at a respectable price. This is the reason for consideration when purchasing
a home; these factors are necessary to your dream of owning a home. But when these factors are what
they are right now, you can see why many might find a purchase like a home is out of reach with the
decreased value of the dollar and a struggling economy. If Americans can start doing things a little
different, like consuming less and finding ways to innovate new ideas and more efficient ways to do
more, we can then find a solution to these failures in our economy.
For me at this time in life I see buying a home a good thing and a decision I am ready to commit too.
My reasoning is the location of where I am going to buy. Markets around the nation are very different
in comparison. I plan on

Pros And Cons Of Computer Engineering
SECTION I
What is engineering? According to the dictionary, it is the branch of science and technology concerned
with the design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures.. According to (Lucas J 2014),
the field of engineering is very broad, there is a specific branch in engineering defined as networking,
networking refers to connections, it is a set of connected computers. Computers on a network are
called nodes. The connection between computers can be done via cabling, most commonly the
Ethernet cable, or wirelessly through radio waves. Connected computers can share resources, like
access to the Internet, printers, file servers, and others. A network is a multipurpose connection, which
allows a single computer to do more, (Lucas J 2014).
The environment of this career is ever changing, computers are the future and every day new
technologies are discovered in this field so there is always more to learn about.
The education needed for regular networking jobs are a bachelor in computer science and or computer
engineering as a basic requirement, a master is always beneficial too. In addition to this, there are
certificates to be earned, the more complicated the longer they are valid for, considering these
certificates expire, (Ms Martha 2017).
Regarding training and experience, most employees start with low paid
(or non paid) internships and go up from there. Some skills and personality traits required are being a
fast learner, open to challenges, having good

The Cultural Impact Of Globalization
Global Progress In an age in which people, business, and organizations can communicate even while
residing on different sides of the world, globalization has played a major role in the progress of today
s global society. As globalization continues to extend its reach to different parts of the world in
different ways, it is clear that it has left a positive mark on the world both culturally and economically
while improving international relationships. One of the most prominent ways in which globalization
has improved society is through cultural integration. As globalization increases, the spread of works,
ideas, and beliefs from different cultures extends its reach to new parts of the world. As more people
from different areas are able to become familiar with each others beliefs and cultures, people around
the world become more accepting of integration. Therefore, as people migrate to different countries
they are better able to become part of society without having to feel ostracized. Simultaneously,
international relationships between different countries become stronger as there is more interaction
between them. For example, when European traveler Marco Polo visited China, he brought back
Chinese artifacts and wrote a book to explain to fellow Europeans the beliefs and ideas that the people
from this foreign country had. As a result, as the people of these two areas of the world became more
familiar with each other, and there was an increase in both trade and migration

Sustainability Reporting Essay
As a newly established area in accounting, sustainability accounting and reporting extends the
traditional model of financial and non financial reporting to incorporate the company s operational
information, social and environmental activities, and their ability to deal with related risks. Not only
do these acts have effects on society and the environment, but they also directly impact company s
financial statements. The most widely accepted definition of sustainability that has emerged over time
is the triple bottom line , which incorporates three key elements of performance: financial, social, and
environmental viability (Slaper). These three aspects of sustainability reporting are also commonly
referred to as the triple P s: people, planet, and profit. Although sustainability has often been
mentioned as the goal of many businesses, nonprofits and governments over the past decade (and
studies have shown that an increasing number of companies and organizations are striving to make
their operations more sustainable), determining how sustainable an organization is can become
difficult and also raises many questions within this sub group of accounting.
Sustainability reporting has become increasingly prevalent in organizations of all types and sizes. A
company or organization s sustainability report is a published report that details the economic,
environmental and social impacts that are a direct result of their daily activities. These reports also
depict the organization s

The Revolutionary Ideas Of Galileo, Kepler, And Newton
Throughout the seventeenth century many new ideas were brought about as a direct result of the
Scientific Revolution. These ideas challenged the traditional ways of European thought. . With these
new concepts, the idea that science could explain everything, while religion could not, began to
spread. The revolutionary thinkers of that time altered traditional interpretations of nature and
challenged the established sources of knowledge. Among these intellectuals were Galileo, Kepler and
Newton. When combined, their ideas provided enough evidence to develop certain theories and
conclusions about the universe. Galileo was a philosopher and mathematician. Galileo used the
telescope to study astronomy. He experimented many ideas to support the heliocentric model of the
universe as set by Copernicus, and to introduce facts that may have been overlooked in the bible. This
goes in direct opposition of Ptolemy s geocentric model which was supported by the Church because
Earth was naturally assumed to be the center of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting in the year 1600, he formulated the laws of planetary motion. In other words, he was the first
to realize that the motion of all planets is ruled by the same laws. Kepler then went on to creating 3
laws based on his findings. The first law states that each planet moves around the sun in an ellipse,
with the sun at one focus. According to the second law, planets do not revolve around the sun at a
uniform speed, but they are faster when closer to the sun, and slower when further from it. Kepler s
Third Law states the relationship between the period of motion for a planet and the semi major axis of
the planet s elliptical orbit. The relationship is that the square of the period is proportional to the cube
of the semi major axis. Kepler s interpretations were uncommon because he used mathematics in his

Federal Highway Administration Case Study
The safety of our nation in all aspects should be our number one priority. When that safety is put into
jeopardy in a careless way, the incident tends to be amplified to a high degree. This is what happened
in researching the Federal Highway Administration along with Trinity Industries and what they were
doing to put the safety of the drivers in the U.S. at risk. The Federal Highway Administration is an
agency in the U.S. Department of Transportation that handles and oversees all state and local bodies of
government in their design and maintenance of the highway system in the United States. Their main
priority is making sure that our nation s roads and highways are the safest and most advanced in the
world. The Federal Highway Administration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the lies that were covered up just created a trickle down effect. The truth always comes to light,
so they could have prevented all of this from happening. The massive lawsuit could have also been
prevented, and now they have to shell out an absurd amount of money all because they tried to take
the easy way out to save a dollar. The correct path for the Federal Highway Administration to pursue
then would have been to drop Trinity Industries and find someone else when they got wind of them
saving two dollars per guard rail by shaving off one inch from each of them. The correct manner for
Trinity Industries to have conducted themselves in would have been to not be cheap and try to save
that two dollars. I think them trying to save such little money per guard rail basically was them putting
a price tag on the lives of individuals. From a moral standpoint, you never want to see someone
experience tragedy and for their loved ones to have to go through such a rough

Inhorn s Analysis
Inhorn talks of the emerging areas of dissonance and dissent to the prevailing religious discourse
(2012a: 165), indicating that men more readily challenge the religious laws that are in place. The
setting that most embodies this observation is the semen collection clinic, where men must provide a
sample of their semen for analysis. Here, men encounter a number of obstacles that are so contrary to
their religious beliefs, but they must confront them to achieve their desire for children. The first is that
of masturbation, which, as discussed in the previous chapter, denotes something considered zina or
illegal sexual activity by many men and many religious leaders. Furthermore, semen itself is seen as
something polluting once it leaves the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are disparities between religious leaders in the region such as Ayatollah Khamene i
who permits sperm donation as an option to cure ones infertility. Morgan Clarke talks about how
Islam seeks to keep(ing) up with the times and this is especially apparent in Lebanon where there is a
high number of azoospermia cases men who have no viable semen whatsoever (Clarke, 2009; Inhorn
2012a). As a result, in Lebanon, there is much greater leniency towards sperm donation amongst
religious leaders and medical practitioners because it is the only option left for these men. The belief
however is that a child should be created within a legal marital structure and any outside or third party
interference in the form of another man s semen would disrupt this. Lineal masculinity , outlines the
difference between the roles of men and women in reproduction (King and Stone, 2010). Men need to
reproduce to preserve their lineage, and contribute to the lineage of their family that has accumulated
over generations. For men, lineage is collective, and any break in the passage of lineage from one
generation to the next, would result in the abolition of all that came before. These serious notions
underline why this type of NRT is so difficult to comprehend for these men. A man who categorically
ruled out sperm donation as a solution in Inhorn s study stated,

SOME INVESTIGATIONS ON THE CORROSION OF IRON
I.
Introduction
Metals undergo natural destruction that allows a spontaneous deteriorating reaction where they return
to their original state from where they are obtained upon contact with the surrounding, particularly
when reacted to oxygen. Such phenomenon is known as corrosion (Zumdahl, 1998). This leads the
surface of the materials to rust in due time. Usually, this kind of process is electrochemical but is
sometimes accompanied by mechanical and physical stress that causes the metal to corrode (Heitz et
al, 1992).

Discussion
Metals have become one of the most in demand raw materials man has ever used. Cars, buildings,
bridges, and such a like were built through this kind of resources which contributes to the progress and
development of a community.
However, a great consequence on the economic status is incorporated in this phenomenon. Since
metals undergo corrosion that may result to its inefficiency and inadequateness, billions of dollars are
spent just to prevent its occurrence.
It was observed that there are different factors that contribute to the deterioration of metal, specifically
on iron which is widely used in different industrial establishments. These are the acidity and basicity
of solution where the metal will be immersed or be in contact with, mechanical

Healthsouth Management Has Overstated Earnings Essay
in 2003, investigators found that HealthSouth management had overstated earnings by at least $2.7
billion over a 17 year period. Furthermore, before the scheme was exposed, members of senior
management had been quietly selling their shares as quickly as they dared and falsely reporting that
HealthSouth had billions of dollars in existing assets. In August 2002, the then CEO and Chairman
Richard Scrushy sold $75 million worth of his company shares just weeks ahead of HealthSouth
announcing that cuts in Medicare reimbursements would reduce its pre tax profits by $175 million.
The company also said it wouldn t issue earnings guidance for the remainder of 2002. HealthSouth s
share value immediately tumbled from $11.97 to $6.71 (HealthSouth 2002, Appendix 1). With top
tiers selling their shares and the resultant rapid and precipitous drop in the company s share value,
attracted the SEC s attention to investigate these occurrences. The company s insiders told SEC that
the Medicare payment reduction actually was $20 million at most, and that management was using the
additional $155 million in supposed reimbursement cuts to make up for reported earnings that never
existed (HealthSouth 2002, Appendix 1) Granting that the detection of the fraud scandal was based on
the evidence from HealthSouth Corporation 2002 financial reports,

  • 2. Mrs. Dalloway Paper Mrs. Dalloway Paper Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, was written in 1925, a time filled with many large changes to civilization. The book was written and set right after the biggest war human kind can remember which killed millions of people, during the peak of industrialization which caused the mass production of items and created thousands of new inventions, while modernist arts and thoughts were growing and, and when national pride was very large for the citizens of the Allied countries in World War I. Virginia Woolf draws on many aspects of these changes in Mrs. Dalloway, especially on the idea of modernism which can be defined as new thought, art, and culture. Specifically Woolf focuses on how the new technologies brought about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This face which so many people believe to be of a famous and important person, causes the citizens who see it to feel pride for England and its achievements, and to generally feel nationalistic. Another example in the novel where a modern object causes multiple characters to become emotional is when Big Ben chimes, here Clarissa is thinking about the effects of the ringing bells, a particular hush, or solemnity; an indescribably pause; a suspense (4). This shows that another piece of machinery was capable of evoking emotion from the characters in the book. Woolf also shows how much more significant nature is in the world of Mrs. Dalloway through all of the metaphors she uses comparing people to animals and how her characters often think about nature. In the journal entry, Scissors and Silks, Flowers and Trees, and Geraniums Ruined by the War : Virginia Woolf s Ecological Critique of Science in Mrs. Dalloway written by Justyna Kostkowska, Kostkowska argues that, By referring to human experience in natural terms, [Woolf] reinforces the inseparability of nature and culture, and shows their mutuality (187). This argument becomes more apparent throughout the book when Woolf compares almost every character to something in nature as Kostkowska touches on later in her article, An overwhelming ... • 4. Did Marco Polo Go To China Case Study Did Marco Polo go to China? This question has been debated for years, since his book came out in the 1300 s even, some believe that he did make it, like historian Hans Ulrich Vogel. While others, like Historian Frances Wood believe the furthest he made it was the Black Sea. So, which story is the correct version? Did he make it to the Khan in China, or did he just base his stories off stories he heard from other traders? This paper argues that Marco Polo did in fact make it to China. In Marco Polo s book The Description of the world Polo describes the lands he travelled for 26 years. As he traveled to these lands very different from Venice there were many new disease opportunities. Roughly a year into his journey, Marco became ill and had to stay in the mountains of what is present day Afghanistan for close to a year. After almost 4 years of traveling the Polo s made it to China to the summer palace of the Great Khan Kublai. Over the years spent in China, Marco was promoted to governor of a great Chinese city, Hangzhou, and even held an official seat on the Khan s Privy Council. He spent 16 years in China before his family convinced Khan Kublai to release them from under his rule. However, before they could return home they had to deliver a Mongol Princess to King Arghun of Persia along the way. After a harsh journey, only 18 out of the 600 crew and passengers survived, including the Polos and the princess. When they arrived in Persia they found that King Arghun had died ... • 5. Analysis Of Paul Bigelow s The Algiers Motel Incident If you have a good sized used bookstore in your town, you might find a paperback copy of John Hersey s 1968 best seller The Algiers Motel Incident, a report on the events at the center of Kathryn Bigelow s new film. So when the ads claim that Detroit is telling an untold story, what they really mean is Tis new to thee. And yet I suspect that it will not seem new, nor old, to most audiences only all too familiar. Bigelow s film is the nearest thing I can think of to an American counterpart of Paul Greengrass s docudrama Bloody Sunday. In its first act (of three), Bigelow approximates Greengrass s pseudo verite style, immersing us in the buildup to the 1967 Detroit riots with jumpy immediacy, with great help from her Zero Dark Thirty editor, William Goldenberg. Over time, we are introduced to the characters who will converge on the Algiers Motel, including the members of the Dramatics, an aspiring soul act whose gig at the Fox Theater is abruptly cancelled by the riots; a reckless cop (Will Poulter) who s allowed back on the streets after shooting a looter in the back despite orders not to fire at looters; and a security guard (John Boyega) whose uniform gives him some immunity from suspicion on the part of white police and National Guard troops. At the Algiers, where the Dramatics crash after their disappointment, we meet a pair of white girls (Kaitlyn Dever and Hannah Murray) and Carl Cooper (Jason Mitchell), tenant who puts a scare into the other guests by staging a ... Goldberg s outstanding journalism has earned him the title as the winner of fourteen Emmy Awards. Having served nearly thirty years at CBS News, Mr. Goldberg had earned a reputation as one of the most original writers and thinkers in broadcast journalism. However, when he observed his own industry, he realized the liberal media had completely missed their mission to give honest news. After years of sharing his observations and promoting more balanced reportings, Goldberg soon realized that no one listened because they believed they were doing the right thing. Because of this, the organizations were able to move organizations away from the financially biased measurement to a more balanced approach that are related to the four perspectives of an organization s success which are the financial, customer, internal processes and learning and growth. To make the balance scorecard accurate, the organizational management team in lines the mission, vision, and strategy of the company into the scorecard. From the videos on blackboard, when someone decides to prove something or someone, then that means there is certainty and assurance that thing is absolutely true. I think that the reason that McCloskey is saying this is because he is arguing the God of the bible and not the minimalistic ideal of God. Everyone is entitled to believe what he or she wants to believe, he saying that the cosmological argument, does not entitle us to an all powerful and all perfect God but that still does not disvalue the rational of there being a God in the first place and I believe that makes his statement meaningless in disproving the necessity and presence of God. When it comes to the teleological argument, McCloskey also claims that the teleological argument lacks premises due to similar reasons as the cosmological argument. In short both arguments do not prove God as a designer. In his mind, this argument is faulty because it does not show enough evidence for the existence of God. What he means when he argues for a genuine indisputable example of design of the universe is that he desired to see obvious proof for the existence of God. He disagrees with the fact that it is impossible to proof something with one hundred evidence. While they are together they talk about their journeys up to this point and both realize that they had actually met the same old wise man and were directed in the same place. They ponder at what the man had told them and were able to remember that he had told them that two was better than one because the one is more open to temptation. They find this advice to be helpful especially as they enter into the place called the Enchanted Ground. The Enchanted Ground is a ground that is so desirable, tempting, and often caused death. They recollect that because they are together they will not succumb to the temptation and will be able to make it through together. Once the endured the temptations of the Enchanted Grounds they were almost instantly confronted with a new trial. This time is it was a person, his name was ... Socialization In Lord Of The Flies The novel centers on the topic of peer socialization and takes place on an unsupervised and isolated island, which successfully illustrates the influence of the peer group on shaping both positive and negative aspects of the characters behaviors (Golding, 1962). Children s interaction with peers becomes their primary form of socialization as they approach adolescence, which emphasizes the role of social support and identification, friendship, and social comparison (Ellis Zarbatany, 2007). Evidently, he successfully persuades most of the boys to join his tribe for nutrition and protection from the beast (Golding, 1962). As he develops similar group value with the boys, he is able to conquer Ralph, takes over his authority, and destroys the pre existing democratic rules (Golding, 1962). According to the journal of the American Medical Association, Several peer reviewed studies have shown that children who play M rated games are more likely to bully and cyberbully their peers, get into physical fights, be hostile, and show aggression towards their peers. Then, as the levels increase, becoming angry, means that the game has the player. Always about wanting more than what they already have. Next, when the kid can t reach the goal causing them to lose will make the children try again and again causing their adrenaline to speed up due to the hyperactive role causing aggressive behavior to the player. • 27. The Cultural Impact Of Globalization Global Progress In an age in which people, business, and organizations can communicate even while residing on different sides of the world, globalization has played a major role in the progress of today s global society. As globalization continues to extend its reach to different parts of the world in different ways, it is clear that it has left a positive mark on the world both culturally and economically while improving international relationships. One of the most prominent ways in which globalization has improved society is through cultural integration. As globalization increases, the spread of works, ideas, and beliefs from different cultures extends its reach to new parts of the world. As more people from different areas are able to become familiar with each others beliefs and cultures, people around the world become more accepting of integration. Therefore, as people migrate to different countries they are better able to become part of society without having to feel ostracized. Simultaneously, international relationships between different countries become stronger as there is more interaction between them. For example, when European traveler Marco Polo visited China, he brought back Chinese artifacts and wrote a book to explain to fellow Europeans the beliefs and ideas that the people from this foreign country had. As a result, as the people of these two areas of the world became more familiar with each other, and there was an increase in both trade and migration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Sustainability Reporting Essay As a newly established area in accounting, sustainability accounting and reporting extends the traditional model of financial and non financial reporting to incorporate the company s operational information, social and environmental activities, and their ability to deal with related risks. Not only do these acts have effects on society and the environment, but they also directly impact company s financial statements. The most widely accepted definition of sustainability that has emerged over time is the triple bottom line , which incorporates three key elements of performance: financial, social, and environmental viability (Slaper). These three aspects of sustainability reporting are also commonly referred to as the triple P s: people, planet, and profit. Although sustainability has often been mentioned as the goal of many businesses, nonprofits and governments over the past decade (and studies have shown that an increasing number of companies and organizations are striving to make their operations more sustainable), determining how sustainable an organization is can become difficult and also raises many questions within this sub group of accounting. Sustainability reporting has become increasingly prevalent in organizations of all types and sizes. A company or organization s sustainability report is a published report that details the economic, environmental and social impacts that are a direct result of their daily activities. These ideas challenged the traditional ways of European thought. . With these new concepts, the idea that science could explain everything, while religion could not, began to spread. The revolutionary thinkers of that time altered traditional interpretations of nature and challenged the established sources of knowledge. Among these intellectuals were Galileo, Kepler and Newton. When combined, their ideas provided enough evidence to develop certain theories and conclusions about the universe. Galileo was a philosopher and mathematician. Galileo used the telescope to study astronomy. According to the second law, planets do not revolve around the sun at a uniform speed, but they are faster when closer to the sun, and slower when further from it. Kepler s Third Law states the relationship between the period of motion for a planet and the semi major axis of the planet s elliptical orbit. Inhorn s Analysis Inhorn talks of the emerging areas of dissonance and dissent to the prevailing religious discourse (2012a: 165), indicating that men more readily challenge the religious laws that are in place. The setting that most embodies this observation is the semen collection clinic, where men must provide a sample of their semen for analysis. Here, men encounter a number of obstacles that are so contrary to their religious beliefs, but they must confront them to achieve their desire for children. The first is that of masturbation, which, as discussed in the previous chapter, denotes something considered zina or illegal sexual activity by many men and many religious leaders. As a result, in Lebanon, there is much greater leniency towards sperm donation amongst religious leaders and medical practitioners because it is the only option left for these men. The belief however is that a child should be created within a legal marital structure and any outside or third party interference in the form of another man s semen would disrupt this. Lineal masculinity , outlines the difference between the roles of men and women in reproduction (King and Stone, 2010). Men need to reproduce to preserve their lineage, and contribute to the lineage of their family that has accumulated over generations. For men, lineage is collective, and any break in the passage of lineage from one generation to the next, would result in the abolition of all that came before. Introduction Metals undergo natural destruction that allows a spontaneous deteriorating reaction where they return to their original state from where they are obtained upon contact with the surrounding, particularly when reacted to oxygen. Such phenomenon is known as corrosion (Zumdahl, 1998). This leads the surface of the materials to rust in due time. Furthermore, before the scheme was exposed, members of senior management had been quietly selling their shares as quickly as they dared and falsely reporting that HealthSouth had billions of dollars in existing assets. In August 2002, the then CEO and Chairman Richard Scrushy sold $75 million worth of his company shares just weeks ahead of HealthSouth announcing that cuts in Medicare reimbursements would reduce its pre tax profits by $175 million. The company also said it wouldn t issue earnings guidance for the remainder of 2002. HealthSouth s share value immediately tumbled from $11.97 to $6.71 (HealthSouth 2002, Appendix 1). With top tiers selling their shares and the resultant rapid and precipitous drop in the company s share value, attracted the SEC s attention to investigate these occurrences. The company s insiders told SEC that the Medicare payment reduction actually was $20 million at most, and that management was using the additional $155 million in supposed reimbursement cuts to make up for reported earnings that never existed (HealthSouth 2002, Appendix 1) Granting that the detection of the fraud scandal was based on the evidence from HealthSouth Corporation 2002 financial reports, ...
