Why Did Edward I Achieve The Hardship Of Scotland
There are many things that all occurred that had allowed for Edward I of England to achieve the
overlordship of Scotland. From the controlling of Wales and Ireland, he eventually gained control of
Man. The fact that the Church of Scotland was not completely recognised by the papacy meant that
the kings of Scotland were not real kings in the eyes of Edward I. The surprise death of Alexander III,
quickly followed by the death of the Maid of Norway led to a succession crisis and the potential for a
civil war for the right to rule in Scotland. The guardians appointed after the death of Alexander III
apparently all worked together for the future of Scotland and this possibly had an impact on Edward I
agreeing to the terms in the treaty of Birgham ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet Morris claims that the idea of a subservient Scotland dates back to before the times of the Romans
. Whatever one is more accurate, the essence of both draw attention to the English frame of mind that
Scotland should be under the control of England and that the ruler of Scotland should pay fealty to his
English counterpart. Throughout the middle ages English rulers had been attempting to assert their
authority over their Scottish counterparts. The inauguration of Alexander III reveals another cause of
conflict on the issue of overlordship. Whilst there were items such as a sword, a sceptre and a crown
used in the inauguration, this was not quite a coronation. For he was not anointed nor was his crown
blessed by any of the churchmen present. The Scots had been in contact with the papacy in an attempt
to make this ceremony sacred, but they had been rejected thanks to intervention by the English. For
that reason Edward would have seen the Scottish kings as inferior and not as kingly as the English
king. Since the English rulers viewed Scotland as inferior and that their rulers should pay homage to
their English counterparts, England should already hold dominion over

Bealtaine Research Paper
The Festival of Bealtaine, also known as May Day, marks the beginning of the summer. It
encompasses the sunset of April 30th, which is May Eve, to the sunset of May 1st, which is the actual
May Day. The most significant time of this festival is between dawn and sunrise. It is a key element of
the annual cycle and is one of four of the True Quarters, which also includes Samhain, Saint Brigid s
Day, and Lúnasa. The cyclic nature of Bealtaine connects to both the daily cycle and the life cycle,
which highlights how cycles are central elements in one s life. The daily cycle of waking up and
sleeping can be extended into the annual cycle of the seasons, which then can be further amplified into
the cycle of life and death. Bealtaine is a crucial marker in the year that serves as the start of not only
summer, but as a predictor of the rest of the year. It has a complex integration of ritual, superstition,
and the belief in the Otherworld. Through the many customs of ... Show more content on

People often took many safety precautions to ensure that the fairies would not bother them, such as
carrying around iron. It also seems as if the people truly did believe that they had the ability to affect
whether or not they found danger on May Day. One strikingly disturbing example happened on May
Eve, 1858. A grave was discovered to have been disturbed. Within the grave, the rotting body had all
of his fat stolen from him. Eventually it was concluded that the superstitious amongst the peasantry
imagine that the possession of a candle made from the lard of a corpse furtively abstracted from a
cemetery is a safe guard against all dangers. From the desperate measure that the people who stole the
corpse s lard took, it is evident that they truly believed in the safety that the lard would

Keda s Sap Implementation Process
Keda s SAP Implementation is the restructuring that the company needed to go through to expand and
be more productive with the products they were creating. At first the company had a lot of problems
with keeping track of inventory and how much a product cost to be made. The system they had could
not keep up with the growth of the company. They needed a new system or they would continue to
lose money fast. To start off they looked at where the system that they had went wrong. It was that fact
that the system didn t cover multi product production. This was killing them in the long run so they
decided they needed a change. They looked at 20 different management systems and had them all
come in to present their product. Keda also had them give reverences that proved that the product
worked. Keda used this as a learning opportunity to figure out what work and didn t with other
companies. They wanted a system that was customizable to their products and the system that they
wanted. There were nine systems that could work for their company they decided on SAP as the
winner. They then start to work their way through the system so that it would work with ever
department so everyone knew what their job was and who they need to work with to do it. They
created a management structure for each department, they then invited those heads to work with the IT
department to make the system able to talk between each department. The manager didn t like this at

Analysis Of As I Lay Dying
Faulkner s Description of Dewey Dell in As I Lay Dying William Faulkner s phrasing, point of view,
and grammar in his polyphonic novel, As I Lay Dying, strategically employs the miserably pessimistic
yet juvenile voice of Dewey Dell to characterize her as the novel s naïve victim. The only surviving
female in the Bundren family, Faulkner presents the hardships that Dewey Dell must endure. In
addition, as an uneducated girl with no guidance, Dewey Dell experiences an uncertainty in many
issues that arise in her life.
Dewey Dell s diction in As I Lay Dying functions to unravel the novel s deeper themes of suffering
and selfishness. Burdened with an illegitimate pregnancy after having sex with Lafe, Dewey Dell
grieves alone as she is isolated in her guilt and shame. She views the world as a sickening visceral pile
of guts, implying that death is her only relief, furthering the theme of mortality. It is interesting that
Dewey Dell also describes her pregnancy as I am a little tub of guts and if there is not any room for
anything else important in a big tub of guts, how can it be room in a little tub of guts. (Faulkner 58).
Which implies the meaning of birth as a miserable duty, rather than a joyful need. As the novel
progresses, Dewey Dell works on past New Hope three miles. That s what they mean by the womb of
time: the agony and the despair of spreading bones, the hard girdle in which lie the outraged entrails of
events. (Faulkner 121). In the efforts to bury Addie in

Tobacco industries are very profitable, there is no denying that, but does this profit benefit the people s
economy? Tobacco companies want the people to think that tobacco is good for the economy even
though it isn t good for health (caner.org). The tobacco industry is one of the most profitable
businesses in the US, making not million, but billions of dollars every year (cancer.org). The cost of
smoking, however, is far higher than the income made from sales (cancer.org). In 2004, the US Center
for Disease Control Prevention estimated that smoking led to health cost and productivity losses that
came to a whopping average of 10.47 dollars. (cancer.org).This is per pack (caner.org). A study of
more recent number shows that annual smoking related economic cost in the US are calculated to be
between 289 billion dollar, and 332.5 billion dollars (cancer.org). To further understand what this
means, one must break down these numbers. In the total provided earlier, factors included consist of:
132.5 billion dollars to 175.9 billion dollars for direct medical care of adults (caner.org), 151 billion
dollars for loss of productivity that was a result of premature deaths (cancer.org), and 5.6 billion
dollars for a lost productivity due to exposure ok smoke, or secondhand smoke (cancer.org). To put
this simply, around 332.billion dollars each year is wasted on smoking.

Nu Jazz And Jazz Dance
Classifying report
By Bianca Wyatt
Dance was introduced by king Louis, he came up with the idea of dance at a wedding where one of the
very first dances the broccoli dance was invented, and by the the 1700s the most popular dance was
ballet. Dance originated 2500 years from today, from people that believed in a magic ritual which
broke the spell which apparently on a bewitched king. Many contemporary dances can go back to
historical, traditional, ceremonial, and even ethnic dances.
Jazz:
Jazz was created in the early 20th century in New Orleans, but the main roots of jazz originate from
the traditions of Africa and Europe. Some people even say that African and European music is a union
of jazz. Jazz is known to have rhythm and feel. The costumes used in jazz for jazz dance performers
prefer to wear a leotard and tights, the dancers prefer tight clothes because they tend to help with
techniques. Most of the time if people aren t comfortable with wearing tight clothes they just wear
jazz pants which are very similar to sweatpants except that they are a little bit tighter, and jazz pants
come in a variety of different sizes so they are very similar to sweatpants. The music styles in jazz can
be the style of electronic, soul and mostly free improvisation. All of the above are from the genre Nu
Jazz .

The Design Of Cross Sections
.1.8.1.1.3. Stress strain curves for normal and lightweight concrete for the design of cross sections in
Euro code:
From the design concrete curve, it can be defined by multiplying the compressive strength with a
coefficient factor σcc and dividing the strength by a material safety factor of γc = 1.5. The coefficient
σcc is the effect of long term behavior on the compressive strength. It is, however, arguable that the
reason for the using this factor is more related to the idealization of the shape of the stress strain curve
as used for flexure than the nature of loading. σcc is 0.85 of cylinder compressive strength and 0.67
for cube compressive strength. For the design of cross sections, the following stress strain relationship
may be used figure (2.12), table (2.5) and Eq. (2.2), Eq. (2.3): fcd= (αcc.fck)/γc (2.2) σc = fcd [1 (1 ԑc/

quot; The technology is getting ahead of regulators quot; claims David Weissman, director of money

If one is to believe the quote above it sounds very ominous for the regulators and the government to
attempt to even bring this media under any kind of regulation. But, what is it that they the government

These issues have been around for along time through the use of other mediums like the phone
system, direct mail marketing, quot;cold calling quot; from quot;boiler plate quot; houses, and even
unscrupulous brokers who work in legimate brokerage houses. People today are still the victims of
these types of scams through the use of the older technologies. So how is it that since the older scams
are still being used is one to believe that they will have anymore success tackling the complex nature
of the Internet and the myriad of scams that could generate from it. The success rate of convictions
from past indiscretions is low at best, one only has to look at the mountain of arrests for quot;insider

for all the hype of cleaning up Wall Street not a whole lot ever came from the scourging. What it
seems to me is Ms. Shapiro would be better suited to try and align her NASDAQ forum with the
Internet technology to take advantage of the technology rather than trying to use the government to
bully people into being afraid to use the technology. Her second quote of quot;there is a tremendous

to knock the Internet. If she honestly believes she s done everything to insure her customer base that

incidence report compared to the United States reporting six million healthcare workers report to have

could be contributed due to healthcare workers under reporting their incidences. I was surprised to
find out that only fifty eight point four percent of healthcare workers used personal protective

Furthermore, immediately following exposure to blood borne pathogens, employee s first course of

Pope Francis s Moral Principles
In his inspiring and indescribably powerful encyclical, Laudato Si , Pope Francis offers moral, as well
as spiritual arguments for the necessity of sustainability and protection of the environment. Pope
Francis argues from many different standpoints in Laudato Si. He argues from ecocentric,
anthropocentric, and spiritual standpoints at different times throughout the encyclical. However, his
central argument lies in the fact that everything on this earth was created by God; we have a duty to
protect it, and no right to harm it. To achieve this goal of protecting our common home, he says we
must create a new dialogue about the environment which includes all people. This argument is based
on the moral principles upheld by the Catholic Church, such as subsidiarity, doing things for the
common good of all people, and addressing social justice issues. The Pope s point about starting a
dialogue with all people relates back to the very first class reading by Christopher Uhl, in which he
argues that our society needs to rewrite the deeply ingrained, and largely invisible story, of economism
to one that supports sustainability and care for the environment (Uhl 7). Our current society and way
we live our lives is not sustainable or environmentally conscious, and something obviously needs to
change. Personally, I believe our largest moral responsibility is to nature and our ecosystems. Of
course, we do also have a moral responsibility to other people, to future generations and to

Check A Car Essay
When purchasing a used car, you should check several things, including how the vehicle runs. If you
do not know enough about engines, you can ask to test drive the vehicle to your mechanic or bring a
knowledgeable person with you.
Locate a vehicle and call or email the seller. Ask basic questions such as the condition of the vehicle,
about service records and if it has certain options you are interested in. If you are still interested in
purchasing the vehicle, make arrangements to test drive the vehicle. If you are purchasing from an
individual, you will have to find out when that person is available, but if you are purchasing from a
dealership, you can show up any time during the used car dealership s business hours.
Check the outside of the vehicle. Look for dents and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the vehicle shows low mileage, especially for its age, look at the wear on the brake pedals and under
the floor mats. A vehicle with 60,000 miles on it most likely won t have a severely worn brake pedal.
If you see a severely worn brake pedal on a car with purported low mileage, be very suspicious.
Likewise with worn carpet under the floor mats. The seller or another person could have tampered
with the odometer.
Start the vehicle and listen to the engine. Listen for knocking and squeaking noises. If you do not hear
anything out of the ordinary, test drive the vehicle. Make sure the seller has enough gas in the vehicle
to drive it for at least a mile, preferably two. Some noises and problems do not appear until the vehicle
warms up.
If you are still happy with the condition of the vehicle, take a closer look at the engine. Look at the
belts to ensure there isn t excessive wear. Check the oil. The oil should be clean medium brown to
dark brown. If it is black, even if the seller insists he just changed it, it shows that oil changes have not
been done regularly. If the oil has a milky look to it, run and run fast, unless you know how to fix a

Letter no.15: Trade in Quebec City; general trade of the country and of his majesty s domain
The letter titled Trade in Quebec City: general trade of the country and of his Majesty s domain was
written in year 1709. It was the time when British rulers were trying to attain the profit as much as
they can on north America, before the control of British rulers it was a colony of French as the author
stated the entire colony is granted as seigneuries and as the custom of Paris is observed here (father
Antoine Silvy 97). The reason stated to write this letter was to pass information regarding trade
between Quebec and other cities to the Majesty the king of England. The exchange in goods were
between various states, such as America, French, British and several more. The author wrote this letter

Technology and Management Functions
Introduction
Information technology is transforming how business and government enterprises operate and, as a
result, how people work. Information is the critical raw material for decision making and the
foundation for producing products and providing services. People create information; people use

society led sociologists such as Alvin Toffler and John Naisbitt to characterize our society as the

What Is The Theme Of Foreign By Carol Ann Duffy
Foreign, written by Carol Ann Duffy, is a poem depicting the perspective of an immigrant worker who
lives in unfamiliar surroundings and narrates their experiences. In this dramatic monologue, Duffy
uses language and themes in effective ways that allow readers to interpret the different themes and
ideas to highlight the persona s sense of confusion, feelings, nostalgia, and many more. Through the
use of literary devices, regular structure and varied tones throughout the poem, the author presents
strong themes that can be related to the audience as well as to gain sympathy to the narrator.
In the beginning of Foreign , the persona immediately establish a setting for the readers to be part of.

The narrator describes his scenario and the memories that he has faced during his time in the dismal
dwellings in [the] strange, dark city (Stanza 1, Line 1/2). The narrator describes both the readers and
their own agendas, where both would use the public transport. Work. Sleep. (Stanza 3, Line 1) The
author uses caesura effectively in the first sentence because she is intentionally breaking the flow of
the text to add a new form of perspective. In hindsight, all readers do in fact use a mode of transport,
work, then sleep. It is a cycle that should somehow be broken or taken aware of, so that our lives can
be significant rather than a copy of everybody else. Continuing on, the stanza goes through a deeper
theme of prejudice and discrimination against those who are foreign, such as the persona themselves,
as they describe the imaginative sight of seeing a name for yourself sprayed in red / against a brick
wall. A hate name. Red like blood. (Stanza 3, Line 2/3) This can be interpreted in different ways, once
again, where either this is what the narrator thinks of himself in the strange city of the unknown. An
outcast, marked by a name written in blood, or this is the narrator telling the audience directly what he
has witnessed, and everything is slowly collapsing as if this place were coming to bits before your

At that time in china women literally had no rights. They had to cook, clean, take care of their

A Study On Molecular Reactions
A majority of biochemical reactions require enzymes. Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up
reactions by lowering associated activation energies.1 More specifically, enzymes bind substrates and
hold them in an orientation that increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with other
reactants.1 A way of measuring how fast an enzyme works is by conducting an enzyme assay. An
enzyme assay is the process by which a spectrophotometer is used to determine how the concentration
of a colored substrate or product changes within an enzyme solution over time.1 With that being said,
the purpose of this experiment is to perform multiple enzyme assays in order to determine the
concentrations of unknown solutions and to gain an understanding of how different enzymes work.
For the first part of the experiment, a phosphatase assay will be conducted by combining p
Nitrophenol Phosphate and a phosphatase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes phosphate groups. Since one of
the products of the reaction, p Nitrophenol, absorbs light at 405 nanometers (nm), an increase in
absorbance at 405 nm indicates the formation of the product. Thus, by measuring the increasing
absorbance at 405 nm, we can use the Beer Lambert law (A=ɛlc) to quantify how much product is
produced at specific times. The second part of the lab involves conducting an alcohol dehydrogenase
(ADH) assay using a dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of hydrogen atoms from a
particular molecule. To do this,

Holocaust Medical Experiments
As described by many historian, there were a few discovering happened after the Second World War

The proof is that there was a trial for German physicians who conducted these human experiments on
concentration camp prisoners which were prosecuted as war criminals. Until now, the society still
continue to discuss if it is acceptable in the medical community to consider the medical research data
that were collected during these experimentations. Even some of these experiments had legitimate
scientific purposes, the methods used violated the canons of medical ethics. Others were racial in
nature, designed to advance Nazi racial theories. Most were simply bad science. Additionally, some
believe there are major ethical problems with using the data collected in this unethical manner. Once a
decision to use the data has been made, experts suggest that it must not be included as ordinary
scientific research, just to be cited and placed in a medical journal. I agree with author Robert J. Lifton
who suggested that citation of the data must contain a thorough expose of exactly what tortures and
atrocities were committed for that experiment. Citations of the Nazi data must be accompanied with
the author s condemnation of the data as a lesson in horror and as a moral aberration in medical
science. The author who chooses to use the Nazi data must be prepared to expose the Nazi doctors
immoral experiments as medical evil. I suggest that if I was a judge that time, I had most definitely
torture the Germans in the same way as they tortured Jewish people. According to the philosophy
written by Richard Matthews inside the book entitled The Absolute Violation: Why Torture Must be
Prohibited, he said It s a comprehensive refutation of the arguments in favor of torture, including act

paths available for those interested in a career as an automotive technician. In addition, we ll talk
about some of the major advantages and disadvantages of these auto mechanic training programs.
Keep in mind, you ll need more than a casual love for the automobile to enjoy a career turning

Online General Automotive Training

method of training. As you might suspect, I feel this type of program offers less value than the other
types of auto mechanic training programs. With that said, this doesn t mean I feel these type of schools

These online learning facilities offer comprehensive automotive training without the benefit of hands

programs throughout this article. This allows students to dive in and start learning without a major
investment. This online opportunity provides students the ability to see if an auto mechanic career is

A Historical Context That Changed Perspectives
A. Historical context that changed perspectives.
Before 1970 s, many criminological theories focused on the offender and motivations that leads to
criminal acts. Cohen and Felson (1979) proposed a different aspect where they shifted the focus from
offender and motivations to the criminal act itself and opportunities behind it (Andrews, 2004).
One important aspect is that lifestyle theory by Hindelang back in 1978 and the routine activities
theory by Cohen and Felson (1979) are merely the same. Routine activities could be seen as an
expansion of lifestyle theory or as many authors do, as different versions of the same perspective. That
shift of focus had two different explanations of crime along with it. First are historical explanations,
which describe crimes through past events, and the second are situational explanations, which describe
crimes incidents through circumstances. This approach utilized to describe group differences when it
comes to victimization and trends in crime rates. From sociologists point of view, routine activities
theory classifies normal activities and illegal ones and explains some odd associations between
beneficial social change and increasing crime rate. It is important to know that routine activities theory
is against the typical assumption that crime start from bad things (Osgood, Wilson, O Malley,
Bachman, Johnston, 1996).
B. Stages of theory development overtime.
As previously discussed, Cohen and Felson (1979) proposed routine activities

A Life Or Death Situation By Robin Marantz Henig Essay
A Life or Death Situation, by Robin Marantz Henig, New York Times, July, 2013, is a review of the
debate surrounding the right to a dignified death. It examines the purely philosophical view of the
issue; as well as the heart wrenching reality of being faced with that question in one s personal life.
Does a person have a right to choose how he or she dies? How does that choice impact the people who
care about about him or her? Should a person who cares about someone be required to cause or aide in
his or her death? These questions weigh heavy on the minds of many people, who live with injured,
impaired and physically incapable people everyday. I selected this article, because it is relevant in my
life. My sister, passed in August. She had suffered from lung disease for over 10 years, even though
she was totally dependent on the ventilator, she was conscious and alert. She was weak but, could still
walk across the room unaided. And if it meant that she could go shopping, she would have you pack
up the whole house; 3 tanks of oxygen, portable ventilator, suction machine, and wheelchair. Over the
course of her illness, the doctors called us to the family meeting about a half dozen times. Each time
we refused, and she improved enjoying another 6 to 8 months before a crisis. I am sure that if she
were totally vegetative, that we would have reluctantly let her go, but her time had not come. In the

Modern Pain Therapies For Pain Management Essay
1 Introduction
Despite all the advances erupting from therapeutic research, current treatments for pain management
remain inadequate. The efficacies of modern pain therapies are challenged by adverse tolerability
profiles, unfavourable side effects, concerns with long tern use and potential for misuse or abuse
(Carven Roberts, 2013). While the major analgesic medicines on the market today include narcotic
(opioids) and non narcotic analgesics, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and heat
therapy (Carven Roberts, 2013), engineered biologics are emerging as a promising approach to
reconcile various inadequacies of existing pain therapies, since they can be manufactured with
capacities such as target specificity to minimize unnecessary, adverse reactivity.
Utilizing recombinant DNA technology, our iGEM team hopes to produce the functional mambalgin 1
protein, which is naturally derived from the venom of Dendroaspis polylepis, commonly referred to as
the African Black Mamba. Mambalgins have been characterized with a strong potential to be useful in
the treatment of acute and chronic pain, since the mechanism of action for this protein is independent
of the opioid pathway meaning that it likely non addictive by its properties and is as potent as
morphine, without building tolerance (Diochot, Baron, Salinas, Douguet, Scarzello, Dabert Gay,

Political Debates Of The United States
Political debates in the United States, has turned into a constant public dispute, on who is more

that involves opposing viewpoints. One of the issues that has been in a constant debate for years, is the
Tax Reform . A recent Republican political debate that took place on November 28th, gave us insight
on the thoughts of some of our candidates, regarding the imposition of taxes. In the United States, we

because most of our societies consist of working class individuals and even below the poverty line

not a surprise to American citizens. However, even though Donald Trump s proposition sounds very
interesting, killing the estate tax would cost [roughly] $20 billion a year (Hunt, par.4), and we cannot
afford more debt added to our budged in the United States. A G.O.P challenger, Senator Marco Rubio,

are realistic, cutting taxes off completely, will sort of benefit the working class because we will be
fully gaining what we work for, but, the richer will also benefit tremendously, because they won t have
to pay no type of taxes what so ever. The tax reform is an issue that we need to look into very closely,

Achieving Goals Essay
When I was 17 years old, my father was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Without a doubt it was an
event which marked my life and helped me mature in many aspects. I witnessed how my father began
to lose his cognitive functions like his ability to focus, changes in his personality, behavior and
emotions. This was the first time that I felt interested in learning how the brain process the
information and motivated to learn more regarding this disease in order to help him. After my father
passed away, my mother fell into a depression so I began to search for ways to improve her emotional
state by reading books and magazines on the subject. Without the support of my father and the drastic
change in my life, I understood that the only way to improve my quality of life was to study and find
the passion to which I was going to dedicate the rest of my life. After careful thought, I decided to
move to the United States. Leaving my family, I came to this country in search of knowledge, contacts
and greater opportunities . During these years, I have been confronted with many obstacles, but I have
been able to resolve them thanks in part to my dedication. When it comes to achieving my goals, I find
it in myself to push myself until that goal it met. I consider that there is no lack of opportunities for
someone that believes in their capabilities and is aware that nothing comes without sacrifice, meaning
that hard work and dedication are required in order to achieve goals. When I

Inmate Suicide In Jail
In American jails there is a frightening amount of inmate suicides that occur, and seem to stay under
the radar and unspoken about. There are many different contributing factors that can lead to an inmate
ultimately choosing to take his or her own life. Being sentenced to jail can be difficult for various
inmates to handle and one can have a risk of developing a mental illness if he or she has not already
been diagnosed as mentally ill. A mental illness can become a battle with one s self that some cannot
win, and only see darkness ahead. Inmates being confined in jail can lead to a breaking point, which is
suicide. Other factors include inmates being stressed out and fearing imprisonment. Jails across the
United States have to take initiative regarding inmate suicides or else the suicide rates could increase.
Without treatment, awareness, and prevention there will be no improvement in decreasing the amount
of inmate suicides. The conversation of inmate suicide has to be had between jail officials, inmates,
and society because there is help out there and everyone must know that it is not cowardly to ask for
help.

Data Collection Method
Research is defined as the organized and thorough analysis that is intended to answer questions about
nursing phenomena (LoBiondo Wood Haber, 2014). There are several different data collection
methods that are used when one is doing research design. For this discussion post I will choose a type
of data collection method and describe a scenario when it would be useful, as well as potential pitfalls
of the method. The observation method is a process of gathering data on how people act under certain
circumstances. This includes collecting data on verbal and non verbal communication, behavior, and
conditions of the environment. This is a great method to use when collecting information on different
cultures. I work on an ambulatory surgical unit and I believe this method would be useful within my
unit because we do admit patients who do not speak English from time to time. This method would
allow us to observe how non English speaking patients and their families communicate verbally, as
well as non verbally. We could study their body language and how they act with each other and the
healthcare team members. One of the downfalls to this kind of method in regards to how I would use
it on my unit, is that it would be hard to realize what the patient and family members are
communicating to one another, unless there was an interpreter present. In conclusion, there are many
different data collection methods that are used for research. Many arguments in ... Show more content

Activity Series Lab Report
Before conducting the Activity Series Lab, participants must know how to protect themselves against
the possible dangers that the hazardous materials from the lab can cause. Some of the things they must
understand include proper safety precautions and how to protect against corrosive or poisonous
materials. For instance, Copper (II) Chloride, one of the solutions used in the lab, can cause severe eye
irritation. One way to protect against this is by wearing goggles, or other eye protection equipment.
Another substance used in the lab is Silver Nitrate, a body tissue irritant. Participants must wash off
the substance quickly if it comes into contact with their skin to prevent any serious damage. Not only
is it vital to know how to be safe around the chemicals, but to fully understand the lab, participants
must be able to recognize the clues to a chemical change. There are five clues that help indicate if a
chemical change occurs. The clues to a chemical change include a change of colour, the forming of a
precipitate, the forming of gas bubbles, the production of heat or light, and if the change is difficult to

Spiritual Murder in Buchner s Woyzeck Essay
Spiritual Murder in Georg Buchner s Woyzeck
Throughout dramatic history, tragedies have depicted a hero s humanity being stripped from him.
Usually, as in Shakespeare s classic paradigms, we see the hero, whether King Lear or Othello,
reduced from his original noble stature to nothingness and death. Yet Georg Buchner s fragmentary
play Woyzeck shows us a protagonist already stripped of humanity, transformed into and treated as an
animal. Indeed, Woyzeck, far from being a simple tale of a village murder, shows us the systematic
debasement, even intellectual and spiritual murder, of the protagonist and all his class.
Like August Strindberg s Ghost Sonata, Woyzeck identifies most of its characters only by ... Show

Others, in turn, speak of her as an animal, especially the Drum Major. At first sight of her, he says she
is good enough for the propagation of cavalry regiments and the breeding of drum majors! (scene III),

majors, hey? and calls her You wildcat! (scene VI). Woyzeck, crushed by visible evidence of Marie s
infidelity, cries Why doesn t God blow out the sun so that everything can roll around in lust, man and
woman, man and beast. They ll do it in broad daylight, they ll do it on our hands, like flies. (scene XI).
Animal imagery especially surrounds Woyzeck himself, in his interactions with the characters who
oppress and dehumanize him. The Captain sighs that I feel sorry for horses when I think that the poor
beasts have to go everywhere on foot. (scene IX). Yet he cares even less for Woyzeck, for he ridicules
the poor soldier mercilessly about Marie s unfaithfulness. As Woyzeck hurries away, the Captain says

disparagement of Woyzeck as an animal. He complains that Woyzeck pissed on the wall like a dog and
exclaims that if it were a Proteus that were dying ! (scene VIII). Woyzeck has

Fever Epidemic In Laurie Halse Anderson s Fever 1793
The historical fiction story Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson takes place in Philadelphia during
the yellow fever epidemic of 1793. Matilda, the main character in the story, wanted to go out and
explore the city. Her mother wouldn t let her go out because of the fear of the yellow fever. Because of
this fear, people started leaving the city of Philadelphia and went to the country. Because of this, a
good theme for Fever 1793 would be that if people stayed in Philadelphia and worked together, there
would be better outcomes. If people worked together there would be better outcomes. For example,
Mattie and Eliza walked around the city helping others that had the fever. They were working together
and there was a better outcome. People who were sick got taken care of when they were forgotten by
others. The outcome was also better for Mattie as she matured and helped Eliza when she didn t need
to. No... I m not going anywhere. The work will go faster if you have me there. Mattie says. (pg. 196)
Mattie was helping the sick and the dying and both people had a better outcome. Therefore, when
people work together there are better outcomes for everyone. Certainly it could be said that when
people work together there are worst outcomes. While this is a good point... it fails to account for the

man would later help Colt by designing most of the different machines that would make revolvers
(Peterson 209). In 1836 Samuel Colt was granted a U.S. patent for a cap and ball pistol with a
revolving cylinder that could fire five or six shots before reloading (Silva). After finally getting the
patent, Colt bought a large tract of land about two hundred acres in Hartford Connecticut where he
built a giant new factory where he started producing many revolvers. Colt made three different models
of his revolvers and he also made carbines, rifles, and shotguns. Colt s revolvers became big. The
Connecticut River was next to Colt s land and would flood that land every spring. So Colt hired
hundreds of laborers to work on building a dyke to keep it from flooding. The dyke was one of the
biggest in America at a mile and three quarters long. Colt s dyke was completed in 1854 (Haven). The
United States was the first nation to give its troops a revolver. Colt s revolvers were used in the
Mexican war. After the massacre at the Alamo, the Texas Rangers, with Colt revolvers in hands

There were three major waves of feminist action that took place in the 1900 s. The most recent and
most closely resembling the film is the third wave taking place in the early 1990 s. The third wave
feminist mainly focused on micro politics but also sought after negotiating a space within feminist
thought for deliberation of race related subjectivities. In the film, a woman was brutally beaten by a
man for laughing at his small penis. The girl s friends found out what happened and sought to acquire
revenge on the two men that committed this hurtful crime. The gang of vengeful women manage to
scavenge one thousand dollars of their own savings as a reward for anyone who kills the two men. The

C201 Unit 3 Assignment 1
1. The cartoon is of a Mongolian man s head, with eight tentacles spreading out. Each tentacle
contains unwanted things that the illustrator thinks the Mongolians will take with them into Australia,
should there be an influx of immigrants. The head if the man is drawn in a menacing manner, with an
unfriendly scowl and two buck teeth that have a gap the size of another tooth between them. The
multiple alleged vices of the Mongolians include: cheap labour, pak ah pu (a gambling game),
immorality, small pox and typhoid, opium, bribery, fan tan (another gambling game) and customs
robbery. The fact that the man is depicted as an octopus implies that the Mongolians are thought of as
slimy, unclean and therefore subordinate and perhaps the fact that the Asians would get a hold on
Australia. 2. The aim of the cartoon is to influence Australian with biased opinions on non white
foreigners. This was partially to help convince those who disagreed with the government to in fact
support what would become the White Australia Policy and try to keep the new country European and
purely white free from any coloured spots that they saw the foreigners as. ... Show more content on

One tentacle surrounds an Australian woman and says, Immorality . This shows that the Australians
feared that the Asians would mistreat their women and possibly marry them. This would be an
absolute nightmare to the Australians if they stole their jobs, their country and their women! It also
shows a woman wrapped up in a tentacle that says Typhoid and Small Pox, telling that they were
worried of the diseases the Mongolians would introduce to Australia. The opium, gambling games,
bribery and customs robbery accusations demonstrate how xenophobic the Australians were at the
time. Fearing that the Mongolians would corrupt the legal and working systems, they held their racist
opinions and tried to block the foreigners

Macedo, 2008). The searches from the sources led to an initial result of 1,052 articles and was
eventually narrowed down to 42 articles based on the research s title and abstract. To further increase
the number of researches that can be utilized, a Web of Science search was also conducted which
added 45 more potentials researches that can be utilized. Both initial numbers were continued to be re

When Acetic Acid Meets The Criteria Of The Commercial Law
Introduction
In this experiment, you measure the acid concentration and determine if the acetic acid meets the
criteria of the commercial law. The titration of vinegar has a solution composed of acetic acid
(HC2H3O2), water and other substances. When adding sodium hydroxide (basic solution) to acetic
acid (acid) it causes a neutralization reaction. The phenolphthalein is colorless in acid, and it will
change color when adding the sodium hydroxide. In this experiment, there were four trials to reach the
amount of sodium hydroxide needed to reach the end point. When you reach the end point of the
experiment, the solution should be pink and if the solution is purple then it is over titrated.
Discussion
First, you make sure all of the liquid (water) is emptied out of the buret. Next, you fill the buret with
sodium hydroxide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When pouring the NaOH in a flask, a drop of NaOH could be the difference of reaching the accurate
measurement to titrate the vinegar sample or you can over titrate the vinegar sample.
Questions
4. If the titrated standard NaOH, in the flask against vinegar, in the buret, instead of the way you
actually performed the titration, how would you have recognized the end point with phenolphthalein
indicator? Would carrying out the titration in this manner change your calculated results or
conclusions?
If the titration uses a phenolphthalein as an indicator, then its end point would always be recognized
when the solution is pink.
5. Why is it a good idea to rinse the buret with the NaOH solution, instead of with water, before filling
it at start of the titration?
If you rinse the buret with water, there is still plenty of proton remaining and there shouldn t be any
water left in the buret. If so, NaOH solution would be less as stronger than presumed. You wouldn t
get the accurate result because the solution would be diluted. It would hard to determine the correct
concentration of the

Bob Dylan Meaning
This short song may not be the nicest to the ears ,but brings up an important message that involves
almost everyone. From mothers to world leaders, we can all learn from this genius song from a folk
singer/songwriter. Bob Dylan touches upon several topics and events going on that time period ,but
the main theme of the song is that the world is changing and that it is inevitable. This song pretty
much sums up what Bob Dylan is all about. Showing his opinion on serious matters like war and
politics, and other less important topics like today s culture. Well according to us, past cultures. Bob
Dylan is a straightforward type of man, he will be honest when no one wants to. Who is Bob Dylan? I
was recently familiarized with Mr. Dylan. Most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, just look at the title it is quite obvious, The Times They Are A Changin . Secondly, if you listen
carefully to this very relaxed short song, there are several vague but informative supporting statements
that helps one to agree with Dylan. In the beginning half of the song, he talks about senators,
congressmen, and a war. As mentioned in the piece, Come senators, congressmen. Please heed the
call. Don t. stand in the doorway. Don t block up the hall. For he that gets hurt. Will be he who has
stalled. There s a battle outside and it is ragin . It ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls. At
first I thought about the death of JFK, his death, and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson sworn in as
President of the United States. I went and researched about Mr. Johnson ,and what I found made
shocked me. Johnson s administration passed an unprecedented amount of legislation, with much of it
designed to protect the nation s land, air, water, wilderness, and quality of life. Even though he meant
to help he angered many people. The reaction to his Great Society and to broader trends helped spawn
a dramatic political polarization in the United States that some historians have labeled a conservative
counterrevolution. The thing that made it worse was that he had to blame to the 58,000 american lives
in the Vietnam war. On August 7, 1964, Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, authorizing
President Johnson to take any

Description Of My Birthday
What is that one day we wait for all year? Well of course, our birthday. We all wait for that special day
that is our birthday. Our birthday is that one special day that lets us know we are getting older. We get
older each year we reach our birthday, but have we wondered what happened the day of our birth? I
have also wondered what happened on November 30,2000.
The number one thing i know that happened on November 30 is that I was it was my birth day. I was
born on November 30 of the year 2000. That day seemed to be a very sunny afternoon. That day my
parents decided to name me Breanna. They name Breanna means noble strong and virtuous; the name
is the feminine version of the name Brian. The year 2000 was a special year because it was the
mathematical year and also because it was the international year for the culture of peace. Christmas is
also an important time of the year and that is also another event most people wait forward to every
year. In this year christmas wasn t to good for the people in china because of a christmas party that
turned deadly. The party was at an unlicensed disco, and it caught on fire and ended up killing more
than 300 people
I share my birthday with many people but what excites me the most is the to find famous people that
were born the same day as I was. Some famous people I share my birthday is Mark Twain, Sir winston
Churchill, Shirley Chisholm, John McCrae and Ben Stiller. Mark twain was a famous american writer
and was born on November 30, 1835. Sir winston Churchill was a British statesman who served as a
prime minister in the UK. Shirley Chisholm was the first american black congresswoman and
presidential candidate John McCrae was a war world 1 soldier who wrote the memorial poem named
In Flanders Fields that is very well known today, and Ben Stiller is a famous actor and filmmaker.
Some of this famous people have been very important to history and that s why i m honored to share
my birthday with them.
One first fact that I have found near my birthday is that on November 29,2000 there was an oil spill 26
miles of the mississippi river. The spill affected many areas of the around the mississippi river. No
injuries were reported, but there was some wildlife animals

Jackie Robinson Turning Point Analysis
1. How do turning points impact a person s life, family, and country? A turning point can be described
as a life changing event that can have a negative or positive outcome on a person. In the
autobiography, I Never Had It Made , by Jackie Robinson, the memoir, Warriors Don t Cry , By Melba
Pattillo Beals, and the article, The Father of Chinese Aviation by Rebecca Maksel each of the
individuals faced turning points. Jackie Robinson, Melba Pattillo Beals, and Feng Ru all faced life
changing experiences that changed both their lives and their countries.
2. Jackie Robinson s life changed when he became the first black man to play in the world series and
Major League Baseball (MLB) during a time of segregation in America. These life changing events
challenged him because he had to face racially tense crowds and endured threats from teammates,
opponents, and bigoted fans. For example in paragraph three, the text states, Some of my own
teammates refused to accept me because I was black. This quote explains a negative portraying event
that comes upon Jackie Robinson. Also in paragraph three the text states, There were threats against
me and my family and even out and out attempts and physical harm to me. This explains how Jackie
felt uneasy about how the whites were trying to put Jackie down. Despite the racism he faced,
Robinson learned to have pride in his accomplishments and appreciate the courage, support, and love
shown by his supporters. For example, in paragraph eleven, the text states, I don t think I ll ever forget
that small, shrill voice of a tiny white kid, in the midst of a racially tense atmosphere during an early
game in a Dixie town, cried out, Attaboy, Jackie. This explains how because of one his supporters was
cheering him on he felt he had to succeed even if most people wouldn t accept him. Jackie s
challenges made him a popular name to remember in the Major Leagues today.
3. Melba Pattillo Beals life changed when she integrated an all white high school. The events
challenged Beals because she faced racism and because of this she built up confidence and character.
In paragraph thirteen the text states, Some of the white people looked totally horrified while others
raised their fists

The Second Amendment And The Fourteenth Amendment Essay
Out of the Twenty Seven Amendments in the American Constitution, the first ten known as the Bill of
Rights, are arguably the most important to the American people. With the exception of the thirteenth
and the fourteenth Amendments abolishing slavery and making ever persons born or naturalized in the
United States a wholesome member of the United States and under the protection of the Constitution.
The fourth Amendment is clear as it defines The right of the people are to be secure in their persons,
houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no
warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, particularly describing
the place to be searched, and the person or things to be seized. (U.S Const., amend. IV.) The fourth
Amendment is the most important tool and most commonly used Amendment in law enforcement
today. It is a like a double edged sword sometimes when dealing with criminals and their illegitimate
activity. Even though they are criminals and what they are doing is breaking the law, they too have
rights that protect them from the government and their grasp. All of the cases that are brought before
the Supreme Court for another look at the case are because the defendant believes their rights have
been violated. When dealing with people and their personal effects, the words used can be very
difficult to fully comprehend without any legal guidance. The question here is what is the

  • 2. Why Did Edward I Achieve The Hardship Of Scotland There are many things that all occurred that had allowed for Edward I of England to achieve the overlordship of Scotland. From the controlling of Wales and Ireland, he eventually gained control of Man. The fact that the Church of Scotland was not completely recognised by the papacy meant that the kings of Scotland were not real kings in the eyes of Edward I. The surprise death of Alexander III, quickly followed by the death of the Maid of Norway led to a succession crisis and the potential for a civil war for the right to rule in Scotland. The guardians appointed after the death of Alexander III apparently all worked together for the future of Scotland and this possibly had an impact on Edward I agreeing to the terms in the treaty of Birgham ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet Morris claims that the idea of a subservient Scotland dates back to before the times of the Romans . Whatever one is more accurate, the essence of both draw attention to the English frame of mind that Scotland should be under the control of England and that the ruler of Scotland should pay fealty to his English counterpart. Throughout the middle ages English rulers had been attempting to assert their authority over their Scottish counterparts. The inauguration of Alexander III reveals another cause of conflict on the issue of overlordship. Whilst there were items such as a sword, a sceptre and a crown used in the inauguration, this was not quite a coronation. For he was not anointed nor was his crown blessed by any of the churchmen present. The Scots had been in contact with the papacy in an attempt to make this ceremony sacred, but they had been rejected thanks to intervention by the English. For that reason Edward would have seen the Scottish kings as inferior and not as kingly as the English king. Since the English rulers viewed Scotland as inferior and that their rulers should pay homage to their English counterparts, England should already hold dominion over ... • 3. Bealtaine Research Paper The Festival of Bealtaine, also known as May Day, marks the beginning of the summer. It encompasses the sunset of April 30th, which is May Eve, to the sunset of May 1st, which is the actual May Day. The most significant time of this festival is between dawn and sunrise. It is a key element of the annual cycle and is one of four of the True Quarters, which also includes Samhain, Saint Brigid s Day, and Lúnasa. The cyclic nature of Bealtaine connects to both the daily cycle and the life cycle, which highlights how cycles are central elements in one s life. The daily cycle of waking up and sleeping can be extended into the annual cycle of the seasons, which then can be further amplified into the cycle of life and death. Bealtaine is a crucial marker in the year that serves as the start of not only summer, but as a predictor of the rest of the year. It has a complex integration of ritual, superstition, and the belief in the Otherworld. Through the many customs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People often took many safety precautions to ensure that the fairies would not bother them, such as carrying around iron. It also seems as if the people truly did believe that they had the ability to affect whether or not they found danger on May Day. One strikingly disturbing example happened on May Eve, 1858. A grave was discovered to have been disturbed. Within the grave, the rotting body had all of his fat stolen from him. Eventually it was concluded that the superstitious amongst the peasantry imagine that the possession of a candle made from the lard of a corpse furtively abstracted from a cemetery is a safe guard against all dangers. From the desperate measure that the people who stole the corpse s lard took, it is evident that they truly believed in the safety that the lard would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Keda s Sap Implementation Process Keda s SAP Implementation is the restructuring that the company needed to go through to expand and be more productive with the products they were creating. At first the company had a lot of problems with keeping track of inventory and how much a product cost to be made. The system they had could not keep up with the growth of the company. They needed a new system or they would continue to lose money fast. To start off they looked at where the system that they had went wrong. It was that fact that the system didn t cover multi product production. This was killing them in the long run so they decided they needed a change. They looked at 20 different management systems and had them all come in to present their product. Keda also had them give reverences that proved that the product worked. Keda used this as a learning opportunity to figure out what work and didn t with other companies. They wanted a system that was customizable to their products and the system that they wanted. There were nine systems that could work for their company they decided on SAP as the winner. They then start to work their way through the system so that it would work with ever department so everyone knew what their job was and who they need to work with to do it. They created a management structure for each department, they then invited those heads to work with the IT department to make the system able to talk between each department. • 5. Analysis Of As I Lay Dying Faulkner s Description of Dewey Dell in As I Lay Dying William Faulkner s phrasing, point of view, and grammar in his polyphonic novel, As I Lay Dying, strategically employs the miserably pessimistic yet juvenile voice of Dewey Dell to characterize her as the novel s naïve victim. The only surviving female in the Bundren family, Faulkner presents the hardships that Dewey Dell must endure. In addition, as an uneducated girl with no guidance, Dewey Dell experiences an uncertainty in many issues that arise in her life. Dewey Dell s diction in As I Lay Dying functions to unravel the novel s deeper themes of suffering and selfishness. Burdened with an illegitimate pregnancy after having sex with Lafe, Dewey Dell grieves alone as she is isolated in her guilt and shame. She views the world as a sickening visceral pile of guts, implying that death is her only relief, furthering the theme of mortality. It is interesting that Dewey Dell also describes her pregnancy as I am a little tub of guts and if there is not any room for anything else important in a big tub of guts, how can it be room in a little tub of guts. (Faulkner 58). Which implies the meaning of birth as a miserable duty, rather than a joyful need. As the novel progresses, Dewey Dell works on past New Hope three miles. That s what they mean by the womb of time: the agony and the despair of spreading bones, the hard girdle in which lie the outraged entrails of events. (Faulkner 121). • 6. One Puff Closer to the Grave Tobacco industries are very profitable, there is no denying that, but does this profit benefit the people s economy? Tobacco companies want the people to think that tobacco is good for the economy even though it isn t good for health (caner.org). The tobacco industry is one of the most profitable businesses in the US, making not million, but billions of dollars every year (cancer.org). The cost of smoking, however, is far higher than the income made from sales (cancer.org). In 2004, the US Center for Disease Control Prevention estimated that smoking led to health cost and productivity losses that came to a whopping average of 10.47 dollars. (cancer.org).This is per pack (caner.org). A study of more recent number shows that annual smoking related economic cost in the US are calculated to be between 289 billion dollar, and 332.5 billion dollars (cancer.org). To further understand what this means, one must break down these numbers. In the total provided earlier, factors included consist of: 132.5 billion dollars to 175.9 billion dollars for direct medical care of adults (caner.org), 151 billion dollars for loss of productivity that was a result of premature deaths (cancer.org), and 5.6 billion dollars for a lost productivity due to exposure ok smoke, or secondhand smoke (cancer.org). To put this simply, around 332.billion dollars each year is wasted on smoking. The final argument that can be made in favor of banning cigarettes in parks and other outdoor facilities is one ... Nu Jazz And Jazz Dance Classifying report By Bianca Wyatt Dance was introduced by king Louis, he came up with the idea of dance at a wedding where one of the very first dances the broccoli dance was invented, and by the the 1700s the most popular dance was ballet. Dance originated 2500 years from today, from people that believed in a magic ritual which broke the spell which apparently on a bewitched king. Many contemporary dances can go back to historical, traditional, ceremonial, and even ethnic dances. Jazz: Jazz was created in the early 20th century in New Orleans, but the main roots of jazz originate from the traditions of Africa and Europe. Some people even say that African and European music is a union of jazz. Jazz is known to have rhythm and feel. The costumes used in jazz for jazz dance performers prefer to wear a leotard and tights, the dancers prefer tight clothes because they tend to help with techniques. Most of the time if people aren t comfortable with wearing tight clothes they just wear jazz pants which are very similar to sweatpants except that they are a little bit tighter, and jazz pants come in a variety of different sizes so they are very similar to sweatpants. Stress strain curves for normal and lightweight concrete for the design of cross sections in Euro code: From the design concrete curve, it can be defined by multiplying the compressive strength with a coefficient factor σcc and dividing the strength by a material safety factor of γc = 1.5. The coefficient σcc is the effect of long term behavior on the compressive strength. It is, however, arguable that the reason for the using this factor is more related to the idealization of the shape of the stress strain curve as used for flexure than the nature of loading. σcc is 0.85 of cylinder compressive strength and 0.67 for cube compressive strength. For the design of cross sections, the following stress strain relationship may be used figure (2.12), table (2.5) and Eq. (2.2), Eq. ( Think about how the Internet has already influenced trading.) quot; The technology is getting ahead of regulators quot; claims David Weissman, director of money and technology at Forrester Research Inc., in Cambridge, Mass. If one is to believe the quote above it sounds very ominous for the regulators and the government to attempt to even bring this media under any kind of regulation. These issues have been around for along time through the use of other mediums like the phone system, direct mail marketing, quot;cold calling quot; from quot;boiler plate quot; houses, and even unscrupulous brokers who work in legimate brokerage houses. So how is it that since the older scams are still being used is one to believe that they will have anymore success tackling the complex nature of the Internet and the myriad of scams that could generate from it. The success rate of convictions from past indiscretions is low at best, one only has to look at the mountain of arrests for quot;insider trading quot;, that the government launched during the late 1970 s through the middle 1980 s to realize for all the hype of cleaning up Wall Street not a whole lot ever came from the scourging. What it seems to me is Ms. Shapiro would be better suited to try and align her NASDAQ forum with the Internet technology to take advantage of the technology rather than trying to use the government to bully people into being afraid to use the technology. • 11. Pope Francis s Moral Principles In his inspiring and indescribably powerful encyclical, Laudato Si , Pope Francis offers moral, as well as spiritual arguments for the necessity of sustainability and protection of the environment. Pope Francis argues from many different standpoints in Laudato Si. He argues from ecocentric, anthropocentric, and spiritual standpoints at different times throughout the encyclical. However, his central argument lies in the fact that everything on this earth was created by God; we have a duty to protect it, and no right to harm it. To achieve this goal of protecting our common home, he says we must create a new dialogue about the environment which includes all people. This argument is based on the moral principles upheld by the Catholic Church, such as subsidiarity, doing things for the common good of all people, and addressing social justice issues. The Pope s point about starting a dialogue with all people relates back to the very first class reading by Christopher Uhl, in which he argues that our society needs to rewrite the deeply ingrained, and largely invisible story, of economism to one that supports sustainability and care for the environment (Uhl 7). Our current society and way we live our lives is not sustainable or environmentally conscious, and something obviously needs to change. Personally, I believe our largest moral responsibility is to nature and our ecosystems. Of course, we do also have a moral responsibility to other people, to future generations and to ... If you do not know enough about engines, you can ask to test drive the vehicle to your mechanic or bring a knowledgeable person with you. Locate a vehicle and call or email the seller. Ask basic questions such as the condition of the vehicle, about service records and if it has certain options you are interested in. If you are still interested in purchasing the vehicle, make arrangements to test drive the vehicle. A vehicle with 60,000 miles on it most likely won t have a severely worn brake pedal. If you see a severely worn brake pedal on a car with purported low mileage, be very suspicious. Likewise with worn carpet under the floor mats. The seller or another person could have tampered with the odometer. Start the vehicle and listen to the engine. Listen for knocking and squeaking noises. If you do not hear anything out of the ordinary, test drive the vehicle. Make sure the seller has enough gas in the vehicle to drive it for at least a mile, preferably two. Some noises and problems do not appear until the vehicle warms up. If you are still happy with the condition of the vehicle, take a closer look at the engine. Look at the belts to ensure there isn t excessive wear. Check the oil. What Is The Theme Of Foreign By Carol Ann Duffy Foreign, written by Carol Ann Duffy, is a poem depicting the perspective of an immigrant worker who lives in unfamiliar surroundings and narrates their experiences. In this dramatic monologue, Duffy uses language and themes in effective ways that allow readers to interpret the different themes and ideas to highlight the persona s sense of confusion, feelings, nostalgia, and many more. Through the use of literary devices, regular structure and varied tones throughout the poem, the author presents strong themes that can be related to the audience as well as to gain sympathy to the narrator. The narrator describes his scenario and the memories that he has faced during his time in the dismal dwellings in [the] strange, dark city (Stanza 1, Line 1/2). The narrator describes both the readers and their own agendas, where both would use the public transport. Work. Sleep. (Stanza 3, Line 1) The author uses caesura effectively in the first sentence because she is intentionally breaking the flow of the text to add a new form of perspective. In hindsight, all readers do in fact use a mode of transport, work, then sleep. It is a cycle that should somehow be broken or taken aware of, so that our lives can be significant rather than a copy of everybody else. Continuing on, the stanza goes through a deeper theme of prejudice and discrimination against those who are foreign, such as the persona themselves, as they describe the imaginative sight of seeing a name for yourself sprayed in red / against a brick wall. A hate name. Red like blood. (Stanza 3, Line 2/3) This can be interpreted in different ways, once again, where either this is what the narrator thinks of himself in the strange city of the unknown. • 23. A Study On Molecular Reactions A majority of biochemical reactions require enzymes. Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up reactions by lowering associated activation energies.1 More specifically, enzymes bind substrates and hold them in an orientation that increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with other reactants.1 A way of measuring how fast an enzyme works is by conducting an enzyme assay. An enzyme assay is the process by which a spectrophotometer is used to determine how the concentration of a colored substrate or product changes within an enzyme solution over time.1 With that being said, the purpose of this experiment is to perform multiple enzyme assays in order to determine the concentrations of unknown solutions and to gain an understanding of how different enzymes work. For the first part of the experiment, a phosphatase assay will be conducted by combining p Nitrophenol Phosphate and a phosphatase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes phosphate groups. Since one of the products of the reaction, p Nitrophenol, absorbs light at 405 nanometers (nm), an increase in absorbance at 405 nm indicates the formation of the product. Thus, by measuring the increasing absorbance at 405 nm, we can use the Beer Lambert law (A=ɛlc) to quantify how much product is produced at specific times. The second part of the lab involves conducting an alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) assay using a dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of hydrogen atoms from a particular molecule. Even some of these experiments had legitimate scientific purposes, the methods used violated the canons of medical ethics. Others were racial in nature, designed to advance Nazi racial theories. Most were simply bad science. Additionally, some believe there are major ethical problems with using the data collected in this unethical manner. Once a decision to use the data has been made, experts suggest that it must not be included as ordinary scientific research, just to be cited and placed in a medical journal. I agree with author Robert J. Lifton who suggested that citation of the data must contain a thorough expose of exactly what tortures and atrocities were committed for that experiment. Citations of the Nazi data must be accompanied with the author s condemnation of the data as a lesson in horror and as a moral aberration in medical science. • 27. A Historical Context That Changed Perspectives A. Historical context that changed perspectives. Before 1970 s, many criminological theories focused on the offender and motivations that leads to criminal acts. Cohen and Felson (1979) proposed a different aspect where they shifted the focus from offender and motivations to the criminal act itself and opportunities behind it (Andrews, 2004). One important aspect is that lifestyle theory by Hindelang back in 1978 and the routine activities theory by Cohen and Felson (1979) are merely the same. Routine activities could be seen as an expansion of lifestyle theory or as many authors do, as different versions of the same perspective. That shift of focus had two different explanations of crime along with it. First are historical explanations, which describe crimes through past events, and the second are situational explanations, which describe crimes incidents through circumstances. This approach utilized to describe group differences when it comes to victimization and trends in crime rates. From sociologists point of view, routine activities theory classifies normal activities and illegal ones and explains some odd associations between beneficial social change and increasing crime rate. It is important to know that routine activities theory is against the typical assumption that crime start from bad things (Osgood, Wilson, O Malley, Bachman, Johnston, 1996). B. While the major analgesic medicines on the market today include narcotic (opioids) and non narcotic analgesics, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and heat therapy (Carven Roberts, 2013), engineered biologics are emerging as a promising approach to reconcile various inadequacies of existing pain therapies, since they can be manufactured with capacities such as target specificity to minimize unnecessary, adverse reactivity. Yet Georg Buchner s fragmentary play Woyzeck shows us a protagonist already stripped of humanity, transformed into and treated as an animal. Indeed, Woyzeck, far from being a simple tale of a village murder, shows us the systematic debasement, even intellectual and spiritual murder, of the protagonist and all his class. Like August Strindberg s Ghost Sonata, Woyzeck identifies most of its characters only by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (scene III), as if she were nothing but an animal to be bred. Later, he repeats Hell, let s breed a race of drum majors, hey? and calls her You wildcat! (scene VI). Woyzeck, crushed by visible evidence of Marie s infidelity, cries Why doesn t God blow out the sun so that everything can roll around in lust, man and woman, man and beast. They ll do it in broad daylight, they ll do it on our hands, like flies. (scene XI). Animal imagery especially surrounds Woyzeck himself, in his interactions with the characters who oppress and dehumanize him. The Captain sighs that I feel sorry for horses when I think that the poor beasts have to go everywhere on foot. (scene IX). Yet he cares even less for Woyzeck, for he ridicules the poor soldier mercilessly about Marie s unfaithfulness. As Woyzeck hurries away, the Captain says that tall rascal takes off like the shadow before a spider (scene IX) Woyzeck is comparable to an insect, in the captain s view. But the Doctor is the most persistent and obvious character is his disparagement of Woyzeck as an animal. He complains that Woyzeck pissed on the wall like a dog and exclaims that if it were a Proteus that were dying ! (scene VIII). Woyzeck has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Matilda, the main character in the story, wanted to go out and explore the city. Her mother wouldn t let her go out because of the fear of the yellow fever. Because of this fear, people started leaving the city of Philadelphia and went to the country. Because of this, a good theme for Fever 1793 would be that if people stayed in Philadelphia and worked together, there would be better outcomes. If people worked together there would be better outcomes. For example, Mattie and Eliza walked around the city helping others that had the fever. They were working together and there was a better outcome. People who were sick got taken care of when they were forgotten by others. The outcome was also better for Mattie as she matured and helped Eliza when she didn t need to. No... I m not going anywhere. The work will go faster if you have me there. Mattie says. (pg. 196) Mattie was helping the sick and the dying and both people had a better outcome. Therefore, when people work together there are better outcomes for everyone. After finally getting the patent, Colt bought a large tract of land about two hundred acres in Hartford Connecticut where he built a giant new factory where he started producing many revolvers. Colt made three different models of his revolvers and he also made carbines, rifles, and shotguns. Colt s revolvers became big. The Connecticut River was next to Colt s land and would flood that land every spring. So Colt hired hundreds of laborers to work on building a dyke to keep it from flooding. The dyke was one of the biggest in America at a mile and three quarters long. Colt s dyke was completed in 1854 (Haven). The United States was the first nation to give its troops a revolver. Each tentacle contains unwanted things that the illustrator thinks the Mongolians will take with them into Australia, should there be an influx of immigrants. The head if the man is drawn in a menacing manner, with an unfriendly scowl and two buck teeth that have a gap the size of another tooth between them. The multiple alleged vices of the Mongolians include: cheap labour, pak ah pu (a gambling game), immorality, small pox and typhoid, opium, bribery, fan tan (another gambling game) and customs robbery. The fact that the man is depicted as an octopus implies that the Mongolians are thought of as slimy, unclean and therefore subordinate and perhaps the fact that the Asians would get a hold on Australia. 2. The titration of vinegar has a solution composed of acetic acid (HC2H3O2), water and other substances. When adding sodium hydroxide (basic solution) to acetic acid (acid) it causes a neutralization reaction. The phenolphthalein is colorless in acid, and it will change color when adding the sodium hydroxide. In this experiment, there were four trials to reach the amount of sodium hydroxide needed to reach the end point. Would carrying out the titration in this manner change your calculated results or conclusions? If the titration uses a phenolphthalein as an indicator, then its end point would always be recognized when the solution is pink. 5. Why is it a good idea to rinse the buret with the NaOH solution, instead of with water, before filling it at start of the titration? If you rinse the buret with water, there is still plenty of proton remaining and there shouldn t be any water left in the buret. If so, NaOH solution would be less as stronger than presumed. Jackie Robinson s life changed when he became the first black man to play in the world series and Major League Baseball (MLB) during a time of segregation in America. These life changing events challenged him because he had to face racially tense crowds and endured threats from teammates, opponents, and bigoted fans. Also in paragraph three the text states, There were threats against me and my family and even out and out attempts and physical harm to me. This explains how Jackie felt uneasy about how the whites were trying to put Jackie down. Despite the racism he faced, Robinson learned to have pride in his accomplishments and appreciate the courage, support, and love shown by his supporters. For example, in paragraph eleven, the text states, I don t think I ll ever forget that small, shrill voice of a tiny white kid, in the midst of a racially tense atmosphere during an early game in a Dixie town, cried out, Attaboy, Jackie. This explains how because of one his supporters was cheering him on he felt he had to succeed even if most people wouldn t accept him.
