Asia Pacific and Illicit Drugs
Asia Pacific can be said as a major supplier of illicit drugs, opium and heroin are the drugs that
dominated the trafficking in the region(Cubbage and Brooks, 2013 :17). The impact of drug
trafficking is obviously the increasing of drug abuse in a country. There are many consequences of
illicit drug use especially on society, impact such as causing permanent damage to the physical and
emotional of the drug users, it gives bad impact on user s health and their healthcare system. Other
impacts are the increasing number of crime, the reducing of national productivity, and even affect the
environment(n.a, 2010 :3).
The impact of illicit drug use to the health may cause the users to seek for specialized treatment,
overdose that sometimes could lead to death, and prolonged hospital stay. Those who truly rely on
illicit drug will need to seek for treatment eventually(n.a, 2010 :5). The drug users that are mostly
taking drug by injecting are commonly those drug addicts. They are exposed to HIV (Human
Immunodeficiency Virus) through injection drug use (IDU) and sexual contact with those that inject
drugs. The HIV epidemics were largely driven by IDU in most parts of the South East Asia and even
the Western Pacific Regions (n.a, 2008 :1). By the end of 2003, it was about 13.2 million people
around the globe who injected drugs, the majorities came from developing and transitional countries,
while in South and South East Asia, 3.3 million was estimated (Aceijas, 2004 :2295 2303). Some

A Brief Note On The South Territory Of Australia
In the Northern Territory of Australia, almost one third of the population is Aboriginal. They also own
almost half the land in the territory, mostly as communities. Most of these communities are very
remote, which doesn t leave very many options for economic growth and development because of
limited infrastructure, environments not conducive to normal agriculture, and the education levels in
regards to reading and math are low (Gorman). Because of this, many of the communities there are
struggling financially, many of the people depending on welfare. Additionally, many of the public
funds that are going to help the indigenous people in Australia are going to the larger communities,
instead of the smaller, more remote ones (Koenig). Because of this, the people in these remote
communities are having to find new ways to provide for themselves as the world changes around
them. In the past, the Aboriginals were primarily foragers. They hunted and gathered the resources
around them. As the country has changed, cutting down on the amount of land they have available,
and the resources on it, they have had to find new ways to supplement this with other ways to survive
and thrive, often selling different forms of art, or allowing outside companies access to their land to
mine minerals for a fee. Several communities have also started small scale companies that are using
local plants in different ways, such as food, food additives, and botanical medicines (Gorman).

How Did The Tension That Lead To The Cuban Missile Crisis
The tensions that developed between Cuba and the USA almost led to a nuclear disaster during the
Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Tensions between these two countries brought about the perfect
conditions for a nuclear confrontation between the USA and Soviet Union; occurring as a result of
poor US Cuban attitudes. This escalated tensions to the point where Cuba became the middle man in a
nuclear stand off between the superpowers during the Cuban Missile crisis in 1962.
The attitudes of Cuba and the United States (towards one another) set the stage for a constant
distasteful battle between the two countries that fuelled the fire of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The
general relationship between Cuba and the USA was negative for the most part, as

Comparing The LS Vs. The Pyloric Sphincter
But if the stomach does not reach the proper level of acidity the LES stays open which means stomach
acid refluxes into the esophagus.
Unlike the Lower Esophageal Sphincter the Pyloric Sphincter remains closed until stomach levels are
high enough. This can result in indigestion, bloating, or forcing stomach contents back into the
esophagus. The Pyloric Sphincter is a valve that holds stomach contents until they are ready to go into
the intestines; the Pyloric Sphincter works in the opposite way of the LES. Thy Pyloric Sphincter will
not open until stomach levels are high enough; this is nature s way of making sure that food is
properly digested before flowing through the rest of the GI system.
Stomach acid is made by cells in the stomach.

Comparing Interlopers And Two Friends
Interlopers and Two friends are two stories that share the moral of friendship within their words, yet
both share the theme in two harshly distinct ways. The plot of interlopers follows two enemies, unlike
the two friends from Two Friends, that stumble upon the curse of an angered mother nature. Ulrich
von Gradwitz is out in his land, rifle in hand and the intentions of spilled blood in mind. The man he
sought for, Georg Znaeym, is there too. Barell s held eye to eye, both men glare at each other, their
voices tight with anger. Suddenly, a branch snaps above them, and falls onto them, entrapping them
under its weight. Both men, crushed by the weight of the branch and unable to escape, begin to berate
each other. Both men foretelling the murder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Two friends, we are presented with a threatening atmosphere from the start as one of our
protagonists recalls the war around him. Gradually from there we melt into a very strange atmosphere
that seems similar to that of a calm before a storm. The two men fish together in a friendly and calm
atmosphere, only to be reminded of the harsh reality going on as they hear cannon fire nearby and the
silence is punctuated with the sounds of the war. It begins setting us back into the dreary atmosphere
before the turning point of the story, which is also, like the rest of the story, immensely dark. In
Interlopers, it s dark from the get go. A man is out in the forest, rifle in hand, with the intent of killing
a man. We are told of a family feud that goes back ages, and the words of the current living one of
those families are violent and toxic. The story has tensions from the very beginning, and it s only
punctuated with the dangerous atmosphere that blooms when the men are trapped under the branch
awaiting the death of the other and their own freedom. Things clear up after a bit, and the tone is
hopeful, only to have it pulled away from us at the end of the story again with an atmosphere of
darkness and

Emotional Intelligence Of Leaders By Daniel Goleman
In Daniel Goleman s article, The emotional intelligence of leaders, he asserts that emotional
intelligence not rational intelligence is what distinguishes exceptional leaders from average leaders.
Biologically speaking, feelings and emotions developed in the limbic system before the development
of rational thought in the cerebral cortex. Emotional intelligence involves the balance and synergy
between the emotional and rational centers of the human brain. Goleman, a psychologist who has
written articles for the New York Times and has authored books and on behavioral science, establishes
five emotional intelligence competencies required for successful leaders: self awareness, emotion
management, motivation of others, empathy, and staying connected.
Self awareness is an understanding of how you feel and who you are; it involves the ability to listen to
your deepest instincts and influences your decision making. Self aware leaders are confident, decisive,
and know who they are what their strengths and weaknesses are. Emotion management is exhibiting
good self control and limiting impulsive reactions. Leaders who allow themselves to be governed by
anger, fear, anxiety, and sadness cannot provide effective, confident, authoritative leadership. Goleman
references a Stanford University study which showed that children with better impulse control, in this
case delaying gratification, outperformed their impulsive counterparts years later on the Scholastic
Aptitude Test (SAT).

Legal Protection And Intellectual Property Rights
Intellectual property is defined in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as the creation
of the mind. According to WIPO the work does not have to be literary in order to be protected. Names,
images, symbols, designs..etc. are all protected. Intellectual property rights are mentioned in article 27
of the universal human rights act that gives the inventors and creators to benefit from their work.
Those rights are obtained through registering patents, trademarks, and copyrights. There are several
reasons behind offering protection to intellectual property. First, the legal protection encourages
inventors towards creating and discovering, and that will lead to further innovation. Economic growth
is also considered an incentive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
TRIPS aims to protect IP in a broader level (globally), support international trade, and pursue public
interest. TRIPS deals with different IP rights e.g. patents, copyrights, and trademarks. This paper will
discuss all three types of IP.
The protection granted for owners of intellectual property rights under TRIPS promotes the business
and economic development and that will result in increasing the level of innovation in several
countries. Inventors will also be encouraged to contribute to activities involving research and
development; knowing that their work is legally protected. Countries impose rights of protection to IP
in order to ensure citizens are innovative in their own country. Developed countries offer very high
protection of IP rights and because of that, those countries are considered very innovative.
Article 8 of the TRIPS agreement states that members may adopt measures necessary to protect public
health and nutrition, and to promote the public interest in sectors of vital importance to their socio
economic and technological development, provided that such measures are consistent with the
provisions of this agreement. This provision validates the recognition of problems arising from over
protection of IPRs by TRIPS. It allows members of the agreement to react upon misuse of the IPR by
IPR owners, provided that measures taken are complying with the provisions outlined in TRIPS.
However, the impact

Yeah, because you re bipolar and you re hard to stay friends with. People are just gonna fall by the
wayside. And that s life for you. ( No Friend Left Behind , Lady Dynamite). Americans at an average
watch about 5 hours of television a day, making television a principal factor in shaping how the US
views the world. 5.7 million American adults have bipolar disorder , according to the National
Institute of Mental Health (National Institute of Mental Health), and yet there are very few prime time

(DSM 5) Carrie Fisher, famous for her role as Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, describes her
bipolar disorder to a little boy in a Q A panel at Indiana Comic Con in 2015: It is a kind of virus of the
brain that makes you go very fast or very sad, or both. Those are fun days. So judgement isn t, like,
one of my big good things. But I have a good voice. I can write well. I m not a good bicycle rider. So,
just like anybody else, only louder and faster and sleeps more. That s it. Bipolar disorder is often
misrepresented in television shows and in ways that do more harm than good. Most popular long term
television programs at some point have a character with bipolar subtext. These television shows have
characters exhibiting behaviors similar to someone with bipolar disorder but the writers never confirm

China s Fixed Exchange Rates Essay
Fixed or pegged exchange rates are exchange rates that are held constant or allowed to vary within a
very narrow margin (Madura 2008, p.154). The Chinese government re instituted its Yuan peg during
the global financial crisis in July 2008 after de pegging in July 2005. The current USD/CNY and
EUR/CNY rates of 6.52 and 9.46 respectively have been criticised as being too low, especially by the
U.S.
In fixing the exchange rates, central bank trades domestic and foreign exchange reserves to adjust the
money supply such that the domestic interest rate equals the foreign interest rate. Since the Chinese s
foreign exchange reserves mainly compose only of US government and institutional bond, most of our
analysis will relate more on the impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those issues will be discussed later in the paper.
The main benefit of maintaining a low fixed exchange rate for the Chinese economy comes from the
low price of Chinese exports. This means that the demand for Chinese exports will increase,
enhancing China s trade surplus. Figure 1 shows that exports income accounts for almost 30% of the
China s GDP. This high dependency on exports of the Chinese economy is also the reason why the
Yuan level is kept at a very low level. If the exchange rate is allowed to float, relative price of some
Chinese produced goods will increase and its competitiveness in the foreign market will decrease. As
a result, exports will fall while domestic residents will start shifting for cheaper imports, resulting in a
worsening current account.
A study done by Lau et al. (2006) shows that 0.7 persons year employments were generated for every
U$1000 of aggregate exports. This shows that a fall in exports will cause a detrimental effect on
Chinese employment level.
An undervalued currency also increases China s attractiveness, as a destination for foreign
investments especially from the U.S. Foreign investment is a great way to promote technology
transfers, which leads to economic development. Furthermore, tourism industry also boomed as
overseas tourists find it cheaper to travel to China than other parts of the world.

Summary Of Suburban Poverty In America
According to Elizabeth Kneebone, author of Confronting Suburban Poverty in America , the growth of
suburban poverty is partly due to the dark economic situations that forced people beneath the line and
by migration. She added that most low wage jobs in America are in the suburbs, and that people
mistakenly believe that more services are offered in the suburbs than in the cities. Looking at the fast
growing poor population in the suburbs, this phenomenon has become a community situation where
anyone is susceptible of. Furthermore, it indicates that there needs to be a synergistic, universal
change to better the situation (the government and organizations should change as well). Even if I had

The film informs that in the mid 1900 s, America was able to reduce poverty by half with private
organizations and charity, various government programs, and effort. Governmental aid such as food
stamps, James was able to finally start again and get employed. And it is absolutely the government s
responsibility in doing so, because it exists and functions to promote the general welfare of the
country, which includes the poor. The American Dream suggests that every citizen of the United States
should be granted equal opportunity in bringing about achievements and affluence through
intelligence, hard work, and perseverance. However, I ve seen many people who work extremely hard
and yet are having trouble going above the poverty line. I almost think that the idea of an American
Dream is perhaps an ideal, not something that is achievable anymore. Each story unites as they
suggest that hope is crucially needed and wanted by the people under the line, whether it comes from
government aid, communities, or ministers. And with the sources of encouragement, people should be
learned that being poor is not their entity, but is only part of what they

Face Your Giant Bear Research Paper
The Giant Slayer One important lesson that my teachers and friends from Saline Christian Academy
taught me was that no matter the obstacle in life whether in school, work, or in the world, nothing is
impossible with Christ. Goals are achievable, challenges are accepted, and dreams come true with
faith and hard work. Our theme my senior year was Face your Giant , and I faced my giant with the
people in my important picture.
Our theme, Face your Giant , was inspired by the Biblical story of David and Goliath. David was a
young shepherd boy and Goliath was a Palestine soldier who stood over nine feet tall. Goliath had
defiled the God of Israel. While the other soldiers did nothing, David prepared to battle Goliath. With

I did a science theoretical project on genetic engineering, and made a clay sculpture of the wall of

everything we did there was always that giant in our way that we had to stand up and face. Our school

was entirely up to this small group. Many teams we had to face were bigger and more athletic. We

Immigration And Open Immigration Policy Essay
On November 10, 2015, two National Economic Experts argued on what the U.S. Immigration policy
should be? Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies argued against
open immigration, while Alex Nowrasteh, an immigration policy analyst for the CATO Institute
argued in favor of freer immigration. Reporter Jonathan Gonzalez of 9News Denver moderated the
debate. The argument made by both experts was supported by strong evidence even though the ideas
appear to be on two extreme ends with no middle ground ideas or compromises. At one extreme there
is a need to reduce or stop immigration while the other extreme advocates for open borders. Even
though Immigration has been an important part of American history, recently it has become a
contentious issue, which is mostly about borders or no borders, and does not take in to account the
macroeconomic aspect of this movement. The two experts argue on how the U.S. immigration
program needs to adjust by scaling back or blocking further immigration vs. open immigration policy
consistent with American values that promotes free market economy.
One of the debate question was about the increase in population from immigration It was estimated
that population will increase up to 35 percent in 50 years from immigration only. Alex Nowrasteh
argued that throughout history the U.S. adult immigrant population has never been over 15 percent.

The Convention Of Philadelphia Convention
Ya Gao Section time: W. 8:00am 8: 50am Philadelphia Convention, also known as Federal
Convention, a meeting lasted for 3 months in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, not only revised the Articles
of Confederation but also established the foundation of United States and created a new government.
At that time in New York, there were two groups of people edited two different newspapers, The New
York Journal and New York Packet. Though this convention worked in an agreement of secrecy, we
still can get a lot of involved information by reading these newspapers. I chose three articles from the
two newspapers to analyze, finding out that though there were cheerful expectations, the
disagreements and doubts (which might lead to the birth of Republicans later) about the convention
existed, and were even more than hopes. First article comes from the New York Packet on June 3rd
1787. This article was a letter from a Virginian man. His opinions about the convention were clear,
supported the division of power while doubted the divisions of States. He assumed that If the
respectable convention fail to establish a energetic government the reason would be the narrow minds,

government and contempt about the obstructions from shortsighted people in these words. This
gentleman also believed that the advantages of dividing the Federal power into two

Castration Anxiety And Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Texas Chainsaw Massacre follows Sally and her friends when they take a trip to see her grandfather s

cannibals living next door. The sole survivor is Sally. Teeth follows teen virgin Dawn who after being
raped realizes she has vagina dentata, she then harnesses it with the intent of avenging herself against
those who have wronged her. In order to compare these two films, I will be analyzing how each
interacts with the concept of castration anxiety. Castration anxiety as outlined by Freud is when a boy
looks at his mother and realizes she does not have a penis, he views his mom as castrated and thus to
him his mother is a warning of his castration. Carol Clover in Her Body Himself and Dumas in Horror
and Psychoanalysis have elaborated on this concept in the genre of the horror explaining that
castration anxiety is not only fear of penile harm but of one s power being taken away. ... Show more

smiles and turns around ready to seduce the man. The song You Did by Chuck Prophet starts playing
giving the scene an upbeat almost sensual tone. This gives Dawn agency as she is no longer a victim

A Beverage And Brewing Company
SABMiller plc, or SAB, is a beverage and brewing company. SAB is the second largest brewing
company; currently the company is negotiating a merger with Anheuser Busch InBev, or BUD. BUD
is the largest brewing company, and also the largest beer distributor in the United States. A merger of
such a large mass, like this one, is affecting many parts of the company. Managers of SAB must look
closely at stakeholders needs, and ensure they are doing everything they can to keep their
stockholders, customers, employees, and members of the government satisfied with their decisions in
the upcoming year. In the past years, the beer industry has seen a plateau. Liquor, wine, and spirit
sales have surpassed those of beer, creating a need for better branding and new strategies for large
brewing companies. Aside from the sales of alcohol outside the beer market affecting large breweries,
smaller craft breweries have seen a rise in popularity in the United States. These boutique beers have
slowly begun to filter into bars and restaurants, hurting the sales of larger companies like SAB. To
combat these economic and social issues affecting SAB, the company decided to begin to merge with
BUD and hopefully begin to nudge out the smaller craft companies. However, even though from a
manager s point of view, a merger would boost sales and revitalize the company, SAB may be
overlooking the possible negative affects this merger could have. From a political standpoint, this

Netflix Microeconomics
The article, On Wall Street, Netflix Is a Comeback Kid But Can It Stay on Top?, shows how the risk
that Netflix leaders took payed off in the long run (Knowledge@Wharton, 2013). In 2011, the
company took a risk and changed their strategy and pricing, while lead to a drop in subscribers and
profits. The article says that many thought this was a poor decision, but Netflix stuck with it. By the
first quarter of 2013, their risk payed off, and Netflix became the best performing stock in the
Standard Poor s 500 index. Because Netflix leadership didn t listen to naysayers, and didn t change
their long term strategy when profits plummeted, they now are incredibly popular, and have an ever
increasing number of subscribers.
This article resonated with me because, as a user of Netflix, I am interested in how the company is
run, and how it became so popular. It is also interesting because last term I took a microeconomics
course, and wrote an essay about the economics of Netflix. Since I have a fairly good idea about
Netflix from an economic perspective, it is thought provoking to view the same company from a
leadership perspective and consider how the leadership influenced economics and vice versa.

the Islamic community. In a brief summary, author writes the biographical/historical narrative of the
Prophet from his birth to his death, which is accepted by all Muslims. Then the author focuses on Shia
historical works that extends on elaborating this biographical narrative precisely bringing the
historical proof of Imam Ali s political and religious claims. The chapter continues with Shia

According to Shia this date ritual was a symbolic transfer of knowledge and authority from Prophet to
Ali and the second distinction regarding the declaration of Ali is the rightful successor was that, the
Prophet Muhammad has raised Ali since his childhood. Furthermore the author describes other Shia
narratives that state where the Prophet appointed Ali as his successor during the early stages of the
Prophet s life. Another important historical event Haider cover in this chapter is the tragedy in Karbala
or the battle of Karbala. In 680, Umayyad army killed Imam Husayn b. Ali the grandson of the
Prophet with his family and companions in present day holy city of Karbala, Iraq. This massacre
highlights Umayyad oppression and greed . Ismailis and the Twelvers Shia considers Imam Husayn

rebellions . Nevertheless the commemoration of Karbala is an important focal point for piety and
central component of communal identity of all the three Shia

A National Transportation Safety Board Investigation Into...
A National Transportation Safety Board investigation into the crash, released 11 months later, lays
most of the blame for the collision on a local Norfolk Southern crew who were working the line west
of Aiken a day earlier. The crew of Train P22 told investigators they were running behind when they
reached the Avondale Mills textile plant around 6:10 p.m. the evening of January 5. That did not give
them enough time to drop off the cargo of sodium hydroxide (used as a bleaching agent at the
Avondale Mills plant) and make the planned trip down to Warrenville without going over their work
hour limit. So after finishing work at the Graniteville plant, the crew took a taxi to a hotel for the night
with the intention of returning the following morning. No one noticed that the switch on the main line
was still pointed towards the Avondale Mills spur. In fact, the brakeman was insistent that he had
moved the switch back so any later trains going through town would still be able to go straight. 2 This
is a case of pushing the limits to the edge and missing an important detail. The work limits are put into
effect to prevent just this kind of over site of missing important details. Unfortunately this one resulted
in a major accident with loss of life. When the limits are pushed mistakes are made and the result
sounds like; In my mind, when I left [the industry track], everything was properly lined back to the
main line. I had no doubts in my mind when I left there, the

Sacrament Of The Last Supper Essay
The Sacrament of the Last Supper by Salvador Dali Salvador Dali s painting, The Sacrament of the
Last Supper (oil on canvas, 65 ¾ x 105 ½ in., c. 1995), has become one of his most iconic paintings
from his late period. This painting portrays one of the most famous scenes from the Bible, the Last
Supper, depicting the twelve disciples eating their final meal with Jesus. This scene has been created
many times throughout history by many different artists. However, through Salvador Dali s use of
equal symmetry, the uncommon setting he chose and the interesting perspective and focal points, he
was able to recreate a completely unique version of this common biblical scene while adding his twist
of surrealism. Much like the many other depictions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This painting depicts the scene from the Bible known as the last supper, where Jesus and his twelve
disciples ate their last meal together before Jesus died. Dali is not the only artist to paint this famous
scene, Leonardo Da Vinci, along with many other artists, created their own version as well. The
difference is that Dali used his surrealism background to create this scene in a completely unique way.
Instead of painting the twelve disciples of Jesus as individuals, Dali painted them symmetrically so
that each man had another mirroring the same pose across the table. This element, along with placing
the setting of the last supper in a dodecagon and showing the beautiful background, creates a calm and
peaceful environment for the disciples to pray. Dali also created two focal points in this painting,
while most artists tend to only choose one. The floating torso is obviously the surrealist element of
this painting, but also completes the message that Dali is communicating. Though the three elements,
symmetry, setting and focal points, Dali created a completely unique rendition of the last

What Should Be The Legal Driving Age? In today s world, especially in the United States, teenagers
can start driving a motor vehicle as early as sixteen years old. Although, recent discussions have
brought up the topic that should teenagers be able to drive at sixteen, or should teenagers have to wait
till the legal driving age at eighteen to drive. On the other hand, according to many sources and
statistics, teenagers should wait until they are eighteen because the can focus on schooling, make
better decisions, and are more responsible. In the state of Illinois for example, students can get their

Free Will Vs. Augustine s Free Choice Of The Will
In Book Two of Augustine s Free Choice of the Will, Augustine argues with Evodius about what it
means to understand. The book started by both Augustine and Evodius talking about the free choice of
will and where comes from. Evodius said, without free will we could never sin, so why would God
give it to us? Therefore, questioning if god knew man would do evil and abuse free will. But,
Augustine then explained that without wrong, there is no right. If we did not know what the wrong
thing to do was, we would never know what would be the right choice therefore the fear of
punishment for doing what was wrong is what makes us do good becoming a morality question.
We as humans have the choice of free will and we do not come to know evil. Evil

Temporomandibular Research Paper
Thanks to the temporomandibular joints (TMJ), located on each side of the head, we are able to chew
food, speak, swallow and yawn without really thinking about it. But, according to an estimate by the
National Institute of Dental Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), over 10 million people in the US have a
problem with these joints, and women are more apt to be affected than men. So, if any of your
employees have difficulty opening their mouth or are complaining of jaw pain, they may be dealing
with a temporomandibular joint disorder.
How the TMJ Works
Not only does the temporomandibular joint move your lower jaw up and down, it also moves it side to
side. These movements are controlled by ligaments and muscles attached to the bone. And a soft disc,

And because it is difficult to conclusively determine the exact cause of the joint pain, treatment
becomes challenging. This is why experts recommend that doctors and dentists approach TMJ
problems with not only conservative treatments, but with therapies that do not involve surgery or
invade the joint or the tissues around it.
Pain medications and nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NASAIDs) can provide some relief, and
some dentists recommend oral appliances called splints to be worn for a short period of time.
Additionally, there s a lot your employees can do to ease their painful symptoms, like eating soft
foods, applying ice packs and avoiding extreme jaw movements, such as yawning widely, singing
loudly or chewing gum. Many dentists refer their patients with jaw problems to a physical therapist,
who may suggest exercises that can provide relief. Learning stress reducing techniques is also
beneficial when dealing with facial pain.
It s important to let your employees know that most dental plans exclude coverage for TMJ treatments
because they largely have not been proven to be effective. But their medical coverage will likely cover
any necessary physical

Outcome of Banning Smoking in Public Areas
This article talks about how the number of premature births and severe childhood asthma problems
has dropped by after smoking was banned in public places. Researchers from the University of
Maastricht and the University of Edinburgh studied 250,000 hospital visits and more than 2.5 million
births for asthma attacks in children. It was discovered that preterm births and hospital attendance for
asthma has fallen by 10% especially in areas where smoking is banned.
Though banning smoking at in public places would possibly have a negative effect, because people
may start to smoke more at home. However the study provides proof that banning smoking in public
areas has created a positive impact on child health. Moreover, it was found that this law has created
public heal benefits for perinatal and child birth and it provides strong support for the World Health
Organizaion in order to make smoke free areas in more states and countries. The study looked at how
anti smoking laws affect the health of the children that live in those regions.
It was found that smoke free public environments such as restaurants, workplace and bars protect
adults from the dangers of passive smoking . Also they discovered that there was a 5% decline in
children that were born very small for their age after they introduced the smoke free laws. Exactly
40% of children throughout the world are exposed to second hand smoking on a regular basis, which
causes respiratory disease and sever asthma problems

Ethics and A Few Good Men.
The movie is about two marines indicted for the murder of a fellow marine in their platoon. Private
First Class (PFC) William Santiago died because of lactic acidosis triggered by the assault inflicted by
Lance Corporal Harold Dawson and Private Lowden Downey. This assault was the result of a direct
order by the platoon commander Lieutenant Kendrick. The order was to train Santiago to respect the
Code of the Marines and the chain of command. Private Santiago had broken this chain and written
directly to the NIS asking for a transfer, in exchange for offering information about an illegal fence
line shooting. When Colonel Nathan Jessep, commander of the marines stationed in Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba, learned of this letter, he ordered the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, they were bound to their duty; overriding their commanding officer s orders would have
placed their career at stake. This case involves an ethical dilemma for the following reasons: 1. A
murder has been committed. It is not acceptable to take a human life merely because this individual
doesn t get along with the rest of the company. 2. The investigation of the murder is hindered. It is not
acceptable to lie about the cause of death in an effort to preserve public relations or personal esteem.
3. Cadets and officers lie under oath in court. It is unacceptable to lie in court. The military has
determined that it is essential this case be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. A
sub group in the military can t make its own rules of military morality. PFC Santiago is treated as a
means rather than being treated as an end. The murder was immoral in every sense and those causing
the murder should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. We further stipulate that it is
unacceptable for a coverup of the murder. Colonel Nathan Jessup defends the practice of lying under
an area of lying covered by Plato. Plato gave support for some lies when he said: It is the business of
the rulers of the city, if it is anybody s, to tell lies, deceiving both its enemies and its own citizens for
the benefit of the city; and no one else must touch this privilege. (1) If using the Plato type

Animal Symbology in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and...
In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the Lais of Marie de France, the authors use animals as
metaphors for human actions, and as characters. By analyzing the use of these animals, we are able to
explore the meaning the authors were trying to communicate through specific scenes. The Book of
Beasts, a translation by T.H. White (1984 ed.), provides a medieval standpoint when analyzing the use
of animals in the Lais and in Gawain.
In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, there is specific use of three animals as metaphors for human
actions. These animals are the deer, boar, and fox. When Gawain rests with the Lord and Lady on his
way to battle with the Green Knight, we see three hunting scenes, which coincide with three

A fox will feign death in order to snatch up carrion eaters for his food, which is similar, as the author
claims, to the devil. The devil snatches up people who live in the flesh, or by the doings of the foxy
body (pg 54). In this seduction scene, Gawain is tempted one last time by the Lady, who seems to live
in the flesh. Her major role in Gawain s visits has been as a temptress trying to make Gawain her
lover. By Gawain s reaction, it seems that her flirting may be working on him when he states:
So faultless her features... / His heart swelled swiftly with surging joys / ...Each joyed in other s sight
(lines 1761 1767)
Yet again, he is able to reject her temptation and the pleasures of the flesh. He states that he has no
lover, and will not have one for quite some time. The Lady is disappointed but leaves stating that she
must at least give him some token of affection. Gawain accepts the sash, for which he later feels guilty
and confesses.
In The Lais of Marie de France, there are several animals used as both metaphors and characters. Four
lais that include the use of animals are Equitan, Bisclavert, Yonec and Laustic. White s translation
states that equi is the name for a horse in the medieval period, when Marie was writing. The title
Equitan is also the name of the king of the story. The king has a great love of hunting and war.
According to the Book of Beasts, this is a natural

1984 Totalitarianism Essay
George Orwell wrote and published the novel 1984 after World War I and II. These two main wars
gave Orwell a good look at fascist states, totalitarian governments and the destruction that this state
can create in a country. The main goal of the novel 1984 by George Orwell is to show that totalitarian
governments is not the best type of government because it limits freedom and individuality in its
citizens. The main goal of writing the novel 1984 was to warn the future generations of the dangers of
totalitarian states and the threats it poses to society. George Orwell wanted to warn others of
totalitarianism and the dangers that come with it because he went through both of the World Wars and
saw what would happen to society if enemy forces took over. Orwell had socialist views and those
opinions were portrayed thought out his novels (Philips, 77). He believed that there should be

Aziz Choudry Fight Back Analysis
Beginning a new life is not easy. Migrants who yearn for refuge, hope and prosperity often select
Canada for its proudly proclaimed multicultural society given its abundance of opportunities.
However, many are left deeply disappointed. Aziz Choudry et al. endeavours to expose the stark
untold reality awaiting many Canadian migrants who long for an improved life. Fight Back;
Workplace Justice for Immigrants provides a comprehensive overview detailing the endless
adversities surrounding employment, social discrimination and exploitation, vividly accented by the
very migrants battling at the forefront.
Fight Back commences with a broad historical analysis examining the implications of unscrupulous
neoliberal tactics. Neo liberalism, defined by the author as the underlying backbone of intensified
political policies on multiculturalism, employment, and immigration coupled with increasing
privatization is largely to blame for the rise of precarious work in Canada. The author theorizes a
capitalist restructuring of Canadian politics in the 1970s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

book reflects a serious, alarming state as illustrated by the quote Immigrants shouldn t be treated as

Biography Of Teres Teresa
Teresa s standing does not consist in what she tells us about herself but in what she tells us about God
and his ways with us. Her life and her accomplishments have earned her many labels, reformer,
author, foundress, doctor of the church and saint and these, together with her persona have made her
one of the great women of all ages. She was born, bred and lived during the most harrowing period in
the history of Roman Catholicism, the age of Reformation and Counter Reformation. When Teresa
was possibly two in 1517, somewhere in the north of Germany, a man by the name of Martin Luther
was calling for reform in the Catholic Church. At that time, nobody would have guessed or known that
this two year old would one day contribute to turn the tides of the Catholic Reformation, pointing the
way from outer chaos to inner peace. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is most consistent with her autobiography is she was born into a family that was devoted and
feared God. A story that struck me to understand her evolution is one that mentions that when she was
five years old she managed to convince her older brother to go off to the land of the Moors and beg
them, out of love of God, to cut off our heads there. Apparently they did not get too far as they were
returned by their uncle. With this story in mind, one senses how adventurous and daring Teresa could
have been and that her journey through life was going to be an interesting one. Teresa grew up like
any other normal teenage child and one could actually say, she was a rather modernized teenage young
girl because of her interest in romantic books. What I have come to know is she was an avid reader,
which may have played a role in her

  • 2. Asia Pacific and Illicit Drugs Asia Pacific can be said as a major supplier of illicit drugs, opium and heroin are the drugs that dominated the trafficking in the region(Cubbage and Brooks, 2013 :17). The impact of drug trafficking is obviously the increasing of drug abuse in a country. There are many consequences of illicit drug use especially on society, impact such as causing permanent damage to the physical and emotional of the drug users, it gives bad impact on user s health and their healthcare system. Other impacts are the increasing number of crime, the reducing of national productivity, and even affect the environment(n.a, 2010 :3). The impact of illicit drug use to the health may cause the users to seek for specialized treatment, overdose that sometimes could lead to death, and prolonged hospital stay. Those who truly rely on illicit drug will need to seek for treatment eventually(n.a, 2010 :5). The drug users that are mostly taking drug by injecting are commonly those drug addicts. They are exposed to HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) through injection drug use (IDU) and sexual contact with those that inject drugs. The HIV epidemics were largely driven by IDU in most parts of the South East Asia and even the Western Pacific Regions (n.a, 2008 :1). By the end of 2003, it was about 13.2 million people around the globe who injected drugs, the majorities came from developing and transitional countries, while in South and South East Asia, 3.3 million was estimated (Aceijas, 2004 :2295 2303). • 3. A Brief Note On The South Territory Of Australia In the Northern Territory of Australia, almost one third of the population is Aboriginal. They also own almost half the land in the territory, mostly as communities. Most of these communities are very remote, which doesn t leave very many options for economic growth and development because of limited infrastructure, environments not conducive to normal agriculture, and the education levels in regards to reading and math are low (Gorman). Because of this, many of the communities there are struggling financially, many of the people depending on welfare. Additionally, many of the public funds that are going to help the indigenous people in Australia are going to the larger communities, instead of the smaller, more remote ones (Koenig). Because of this, the people in these remote communities are having to find new ways to provide for themselves as the world changes around them. In the past, the Aboriginals were primarily foragers. They hunted and gathered the resources around them. As the country has changed, cutting down on the amount of land they have available, and the resources on it, they have had to find new ways to supplement this with other ways to survive and thrive, often selling different forms of art, or allowing outside companies access to their land to mine minerals for a fee. Several communities have also started small scale companies that are using local plants in different ways, such as food, food additives, and botanical medicines (Gorman). ... • 4. How Did The Tension That Lead To The Cuban Missile Crisis The tensions that developed between Cuba and the USA almost led to a nuclear disaster during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Tensions between these two countries brought about the perfect conditions for a nuclear confrontation between the USA and Soviet Union; occurring as a result of poor US Cuban attitudes. This escalated tensions to the point where Cuba became the middle man in a nuclear stand off between the superpowers during the Cuban Missile crisis in 1962. The attitudes of Cuba and the United States (towards one another) set the stage for a constant distasteful battle between the two countries that fuelled the fire of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The general relationship between Cuba and the USA was negative for the most part, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing The LS Vs. The Pyloric Sphincter But if the stomach does not reach the proper level of acidity the LES stays open which means stomach acid refluxes into the esophagus. Unlike the Lower Esophageal Sphincter the Pyloric Sphincter remains closed until stomach levels are high enough. This can result in indigestion, bloating, or forcing stomach contents back into the esophagus. The Pyloric Sphincter is a valve that holds stomach contents until they are ready to go into the intestines; the Pyloric Sphincter works in the opposite way of the LES. Thy Pyloric Sphincter will not open until stomach levels are high enough; this is nature s way of making sure that food is properly digested before flowing through the rest of the GI system. Stomach acid is made by cells in the stomach. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparing Interlopers And Two Friends Interlopers and Two friends are two stories that share the moral of friendship within their words, yet both share the theme in two harshly distinct ways. The plot of interlopers follows two enemies, unlike the two friends from Two Friends, that stumble upon the curse of an angered mother nature. Ulrich von Gradwitz is out in his land, rifle in hand and the intentions of spilled blood in mind. The man he sought for, Georg Znaeym, is there too. Barell s held eye to eye, both men glare at each other, their voices tight with anger. Suddenly, a branch snaps above them, and falls onto them, entrapping them under its weight. Both men, crushed by the weight of the branch and unable to escape, begin to berate each other. Both men foretelling the murder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Two friends, we are presented with a threatening atmosphere from the start as one of our protagonists recalls the war around him. Gradually from there we melt into a very strange atmosphere that seems similar to that of a calm before a storm. The two men fish together in a friendly and calm atmosphere, only to be reminded of the harsh reality going on as they hear cannon fire nearby and the silence is punctuated with the sounds of the war. It begins setting us back into the dreary atmosphere before the turning point of the story, which is also, like the rest of the story, immensely dark. In Interlopers, it s dark from the get go. A man is out in the forest, rifle in hand, with the intent of killing a man. We are told of a family feud that goes back ages, and the words of the current living one of those families are violent and toxic. The story has tensions from the very beginning, and it s only punctuated with the dangerous atmosphere that blooms when the men are trapped under the branch awaiting the death of the other and their own freedom. Things clear up after a bit, and the tone is hopeful, only to have it pulled away from us at the end of the story again with an atmosphere of darkness and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Emotional Intelligence Of Leaders By Daniel Goleman In Daniel Goleman s article, The emotional intelligence of leaders, he asserts that emotional intelligence not rational intelligence is what distinguishes exceptional leaders from average leaders. Biologically speaking, feelings and emotions developed in the limbic system before the development of rational thought in the cerebral cortex. Emotional intelligence involves the balance and synergy between the emotional and rational centers of the human brain. Goleman, a psychologist who has written articles for the New York Times and has authored books and on behavioral science, establishes five emotional intelligence competencies required for successful leaders: self awareness, emotion management, motivation of others, empathy, and staying connected. Self awareness is an understanding of how you feel and who you are; it involves the ability to listen to your deepest instincts and influences your decision making. Self aware leaders are confident, decisive, and know who they are what their strengths and weaknesses are. Emotion management is exhibiting good self control and limiting impulsive reactions. Leaders who allow themselves to be governed by anger, fear, anxiety, and sadness cannot provide effective, confident, authoritative leadership. Goleman references a Stanford University study which showed that children with better impulse control, in this case delaying gratification, outperformed their impulsive counterparts years later on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). ... According to WIPO the work does not have to be literary in order to be protected. Names, images, symbols, designs..etc. are all protected. Intellectual property rights are mentioned in article 27 of the universal human rights act that gives the inventors and creators to benefit from their work. Those rights are obtained through registering patents, trademarks, and copyrights. There are several reasons behind offering protection to intellectual property. First, the legal protection encourages inventors towards creating and discovering, and that will lead to further innovation. Economic growth is also considered an incentive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... TRIPS aims to protect IP in a broader level (globally), support international trade, and pursue public interest. TRIPS deals with different IP rights e.g. patents, copyrights, and trademarks. This paper will discuss all three types of IP. The protection granted for owners of intellectual property rights under TRIPS promotes the business and economic development and that will result in increasing the level of innovation in several countries. Inventors will also be encouraged to contribute to activities involving research and development; knowing that their work is legally protected. Countries impose rights of protection to IP in order to ensure citizens are innovative in their own country. Developed countries offer very high protection of IP rights and because of that, those countries are considered very innovative. Article 8 of the TRIPS agreement states that members may adopt measures necessary to protect public health and nutrition, and to promote the public interest in sectors of vital importance to their socio economic and technological development, provided that such measures are consistent with the provisions of this agreement. This provision validates the recognition of problems arising from over protection of IPRs by TRIPS. It allows members of the agreement to react upon misuse of the IPR by IPR owners, provided that measures taken are complying with the provisions outlined in TRIPS. However, the impact ... ( No Friend Left Behind , Lady Dynamite). Americans at an average watch about 5 hours of television a day, making television a principal factor in shaping how the US views the world. 5.7 million American adults have bipolar disorder , according to the National Institute of Mental Health (National Institute of Mental Health), and yet there are very few prime time programs that include characters living with bipolar. (DSM 5) Carrie Fisher, famous for her role as Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, describes her bipolar disorder to a little boy in a Q A panel at Indiana Comic Con in 2015: It is a kind of virus of the brain that makes you go very fast or very sad, or both. Those are fun days. So judgement isn t, like, one of my big good things. But I have a good voice. I can write well. I m not a good bicycle rider. So, just like anybody else, only louder and faster and sleeps more. That s it. Bipolar disorder is often misrepresented in television shows and in ways that do more harm than good. Most popular long term television programs at some point have a character with bipolar subtext. These television shows have characters exhibiting behaviors similar to someone with bipolar disorder but the writers never confirm if they are, like in the case of Naomi Shropshire from Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. • 11. China s Fixed Exchange Rates Essay Fixed or pegged exchange rates are exchange rates that are held constant or allowed to vary within a very narrow margin (Madura 2008, p.154). The Chinese government re instituted its Yuan peg during the global financial crisis in July 2008 after de pegging in July 2005. The current USD/CNY and EUR/CNY rates of 6.52 and 9.46 respectively have been criticised as being too low, especially by the U.S. In fixing the exchange rates, central bank trades domestic and foreign exchange reserves to adjust the money supply such that the domestic interest rate equals the foreign interest rate. Since the Chinese s foreign exchange reserves mainly compose only of US government and institutional bond, most of our analysis will relate more on the impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those issues will be discussed later in the paper. The main benefit of maintaining a low fixed exchange rate for the Chinese economy comes from the low price of Chinese exports. This means that the demand for Chinese exports will increase, enhancing China s trade surplus. Figure 1 shows that exports income accounts for almost 30% of the China s GDP. This high dependency on exports of the Chinese economy is also the reason why the Yuan level is kept at a very low level. If the exchange rate is allowed to float, relative price of some Chinese produced goods will increase and its competitiveness in the foreign market will decrease. As a result, exports will fall while domestic residents will start shifting for cheaper imports, resulting in a worsening current account. A study done by Lau et al. (2006) shows that 0.7 persons year employments were generated for every U$1000 of aggregate exports. This shows that a fall in exports will cause a detrimental effect on Chinese employment level. An undervalued currency also increases China s attractiveness, as a destination for foreign investments especially from the U.S. Foreign investment is a great way to promote technology transfers, which leads to economic development. Furthermore, tourism industry also boomed as overseas tourists find it cheaper to travel to China than other parts of the world. Fixing the exchange rate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Summary Of Suburban Poverty In America According to Elizabeth Kneebone, author of Confronting Suburban Poverty in America , the growth of suburban poverty is partly due to the dark economic situations that forced people beneath the line and by migration. She added that most low wage jobs in America are in the suburbs, and that people mistakenly believe that more services are offered in the suburbs than in the cities. Looking at the fast growing poor population in the suburbs, this phenomenon has become a community situation where anyone is susceptible of. Furthermore, it indicates that there needs to be a synergistic, universal change to better the situation (the government and organizations should change as well). The Convention Of Philadelphia Convention Ya Gao Section time: W. 8:00am 8: 50am Philadelphia Convention, also known as Federal Convention, a meeting lasted for 3 months in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, not only revised the Articles of Confederation but also established the foundation of United States and created a new government. At that time in New York, there were two groups of people edited two different newspapers, The New York Journal and New York Packet. Though this convention worked in an agreement of secrecy, we still can get a lot of involved information by reading these newspapers. I chose three articles from the two newspapers to analyze, finding out that though there were cheerful expectations, the disagreements and doubts (which might lead to the birth of Republicans later) about the convention existed, and were even more than hopes. First article comes from the New York Packet on June 3rd 1787. This article was a letter from a Virginian man. His opinions about the convention were clear, supported the division of power while doubted the divisions of States. He assumed that If the respectable convention fail to establish a energetic government the reason would be the narrow minds, or selfish views of little politicians. Teeth follows teen virgin Dawn who after being raped realizes she has vagina dentata, she then harnesses it with the intent of avenging herself against those who have wronged her. In order to compare these two films, I will be analyzing how each interacts with the concept of castration anxiety. Castration anxiety as outlined by Freud is when a boy looks at his mother and realizes she does not have a penis, he views his mom as castrated and thus to him his mother is a warning of his castration. Carol Clover in Her Body Himself and Dumas in Horror and Psychoanalysis have elaborated on this concept in the genre of the horror explaining that castration anxiety is not only fear of penile harm but of one s power being taken away. ... SAB is the second largest brewing company; currently the company is negotiating a merger with Anheuser Busch InBev, or BUD. BUD is the largest brewing company, and also the largest beer distributor in the United States. A merger of such a large mass, like this one, is affecting many parts of the company. Managers of SAB must look closely at stakeholders needs, and ensure they are doing everything they can to keep their stockholders, customers, employees, and members of the government satisfied with their decisions in the upcoming year. In the past years, the beer industry has seen a plateau. Liquor, wine, and spirit sales have surpassed those of beer, creating a need for better branding and new strategies for large brewing companies. Aside from the sales of alcohol outside the beer market affecting large breweries, smaller craft breweries have seen a rise in popularity in the United States. These boutique beers have slowly begun to filter into bars and restaurants, hurting the sales of larger companies like SAB. To combat these economic and social issues affecting SAB, the company decided to begin to merge with BUD and hopefully begin to nudge out the smaller craft companies. That did not give them enough time to drop off the cargo of sodium hydroxide (used as a bleaching agent at the Avondale Mills plant) and make the planned trip down to Warrenville without going over their work hour limit. • 37. Biography Of Teres Teresa Teresa s standing does not consist in what she tells us about herself but in what she tells us about God and his ways with us. Her life and her accomplishments have earned her many labels, reformer, author, foundress, doctor of the church and saint and these, together with her persona have made her one of the great women of all ages. She was born, bred and lived during the most harrowing period in the history of Roman Catholicism, the age of Reformation and Counter Reformation. When Teresa was possibly two in 1517, somewhere in the north of Germany, a man by the name of Martin Luther was calling for reform in the Catholic Church. At that time, nobody would have guessed or known that this two year old would one day contribute to turn the tides of the Catholic Reformation, pointing the way from outer chaos to inner peace. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is most consistent with her autobiography is she was born into a family that was devoted and feared God. A story that struck me to understand her evolution is one that mentions that when she was five years old she managed to convince her older brother to go off to the land of the Moors and beg them, out of love of God, to cut off our heads there. Teresa grew up like any other normal teenage child and one could actually say, she was a rather modernized teenage young girl because of her interest in romantic books. What I have come to know is she was an avid reader, which may have played a role in her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
