The Iraq And Iran War
The Iraq and Iran war in 1980 through 1988 started on September 22, 1980, which resulted in an 8
year war, 500,000 casualties, $600 billion debt accumulated, and many more factors. The Iraq and Iran
war strained Iraq s political, and social life. Also put Iraq s economy into severe conditions. The 1980,
8 year war between Iraq and Iran was fueled by many factors including border disputes (geographical
and economical), and Iraq s new dictator Saddam Hussein (political). Saddam Hussein feared that the
new Iranian leadership would threaten Iraq s Sunni Shia, and the minimal access to the Persian Gulf.
The war was multifaceted and had many religious schisms, political differences, border disputes,
ethnic disputes and a very personal fight between Saddam Hussein and Ayatollah Khomeini. Iraq
launched the war in effort to strengthen the rising power in Iraq, and to replace Iran as the dominant
Persian Gulf State. The most important factor to this war was the fight over the Shatt al Arab
waterway. The fight over the waterway goes all the way back into the 7th century. Having said that,
Iraq s leader, Saddam Hussein had large aspirations which included expanding his country, and
become the leading nation in the Middle East. Becoming the leading nation in the Middle East
required accomplishing the attack on Iran, gaining more oil fields, the Shatt Al Arab (a waterway) and
getting more power and land. Furthermore, in the months that lead up to the start of the war, Iraq was

Numinbah Valley Case Study
Numinbah Valley is an area and suburb approximately forty eight kilometres south west of the Gold
Coast, in south eastern Queensland, Australia. Numinbah Valley covers approximately 116 square
kilometres. The area is in the south east part of Queensland and is part of the Gold Coast Hinterland.
Numinbah Valley is the upper catchment for the Nerang River. As the name suggests, Numinbah
Valley is a valley, with several elevated areas in it (Figure 14 and 13). The valley is well preserved,
with only 10 percent of the area having been cleared of vegetation. Only one major road runs through
the valley, it being the Nerang Murwillumbah road (there are a few other roads which run off from this
one, but they are for private use). 1.2 Background. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the valley, the valley remained largely unexplored until the late 1800 s when timber cutters seeking
valuable red cedar came into the valley. The timber resources in the area supported the families who
farmed in the valley, and supplied timber for a number of local and regional saws mills. In present day,
the major local industries (in descending order) in Numinbah Valley are agriculture, forestry and

How Did Japanese Attack Pearl Harbor
WWII was a war in which the United States was hoping to stay out of. But that hope was shattered
when the japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. THey managed to completely knock the pacific fleet right
out of the fight before it had even began. Immediately after, the U.S declared war against Japan. Then
a mass production was in effect in the states. getting America right back on its feet in the pacific.
Many battles ensued in one of the worst world wars ever seen before.
The first major keystone of the U.S defensive was the Battle of the midway. This is when the japanese
had thought that most of the U.S carriers had been destroyed. They did not expect the the U.S.S t
Yorktown to have made such a hasty repair at Pearl Harbor, This was an advantage had the U.S had
against the Japs. These faulty japanese assumptions were there downfall due to the fact that the U.S
had set up an ambush of their own. This lead to the loss of the four major japanese carriers used in the
six carrier force during the Pearl Harbor Attack. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marines. The 886 IJN personnel defending the naval and seaplane bases on the three islands
stubbornly resisted the Marine attacks. With much difficulty, the Marines secured all three islands;
Tulagi on 8 August, and Gavutu and Tanambogo by 9 August. The Japanese defenders were killed
nearly to the very last man, while the Marines took casualties of 122 killed.
The Gilbert and Marshall Islands campaign, from November 1943 through February 1944, were
strategic operations for the United States Pacific Fleet and Marine Corps in the Central Pacific. These
operations were to establish airfields that would allow land based air support for the upcoming
operations across the Central Pacific. The campaign began with an pricey three day battle for the
island of Betio at the Tarawa atoll. The campaign launched a year earlier by a diversionary raid on
Makin Island by U.S. Marines in August

What It Means To Be A Feminist Struggle For Women
One major problem in society is the confusion about what feminists stand for. I believe that this issue
is of utmost importance, and it is imperative that people continue to be educated about equality.
Teaching people what it actually means to be a feminist is of utmost importance to me. In other words,
I feel it is my duty to clear up misunderstandings about what feminists all over the world are actually
fighting for.
A common misconception of the movement is that feminists believe that women are better than men.
However, the definition of feminism is the advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of political,
social, and economic equality to men. Feminists are fighting to be granted the same rights and
opportunities as men, not to be granted rights and opportunities that surpass those of men.
As a result of the previously stated misconception, the belief that men should not be feminists is often
seen in society. A feminist is someone who believes in equality between the sexes men included.
Having been wrongly informed about the definition of feminism, some men feel as if it would be
wrong for them to be called a feminist because of what the term suggests. It would prove difficult for a
man to share his beliefs concerning equality if he was under the impression that feminists fight for the
idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest steps that need to be taken to solve these is issues are: helping people be more
comfortable about voicing their opinions on gender equality and educating people on what it means to
be a feminist. For our society to continue evolving, gender equality is something that needs to be
present. More people will openly support feminism if they know what it actually means not just what
society has wrongly labeled it. All of the efforts of the feminists who came before us will have been in
vain if people do not continue to be informed about what feminism and gender equality

Gas Station
Filling Station by Elizabeth Bishop heavily relies upon diction and word choice to create imagery to
supports the main theme of the poem, which is that love can be found everywhere, even in unlikely
places. In the second stanza of the poem, the author starts to discuss some of the inhabitants of the gas
station. The describes the sons of the station owner as quick and saucy , using words with generally
positive connotations. Quick gives a lively, and thus warm, feeling to the station, and saucy can
literally mean lively when used in this context. Saucy can also inspire the same warm feelings as the
word quick does, if not even more so. Saucy recalls home cooked foods, adding to the overall message
of familiar love to the poem. Another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that there is some maternal presence in the gas station. The idea that there is some maternal presence
is at the station is further supported by the presence of daisies and marguerites found in the doily
itself. These flowers normally have feminine

Conflict Between Conflict And Ethics
Conflict and Ethics
Conflict is not an uncommon issue that happens in various placements, including company,
government office, nonprofit organization, or even military. It affects the organization by reducing
productivity, decreasing communication, poorer decision making, decreasing cooperation, and
political backstabbing (Runde Flanagan, 2008). However, if the conflict is addressed effectively, it can
stimulate creativity and produce more opportunities for enhance communication, better understanding
each other, and ultimately achieve higher working efficiency (Runde Flanagan, 2008). So, how to deal
with the conflict is an opportunity to test a leader about his/her leadership skill in an organization.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which supposes would produce conflicts and making the
relationship between these two organizations as competitors. However, Dr. Anthony M. Hassan set up

consistency between their speaking and behaviors. This concept exactly described the theory of
authentic leadership, which emphasizes

Factors That Affect The Activity Of Contractile Activity
During prolonged activity, muscles show a decline in ability to respond to stimulation with optimal
levels of contractile activity; this is a phenomena denoted as muscle fatigue (MF) (1). The causes of
MF are not yet understood, however there are many observations of associations between metabolic
and biochemical factors with MF. In order for force to be generated by muscles, calcium ions which
are released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum bind to troponin. The new troponin Ca2+ complex cause
s tropomyosin to change shape, exposing the binding site on actin. Myosin then binds to actin, causing
cross bridge tilting, and generating contraction (1).
Lactic acid is commonly perceived as a primary cause of MF to due to its intracellular muscle acidosis
effects. Acidosis lowers the sensitivity of the contractile apparatus to calcium ions, because the H+
ions competes against Ca2+ for binding to certain binding sites on troponin. (2).This leads to
decreased force development. However, low pH has many effects which do not favour development of
MF, such as its ability to help maintain excitability, and decreased rate of fatigue. Overall, there is
little evidence suggesting that the net effect of lactic acid results in MF.
Potassium ions is a metabolite which decreases calcium ion release from the SR. Shifts in levels of
potassium and calcium ions in and around skeletal muscle fibres will alter the membrane potential of
the muscle cell, making it more or less prone to stimulation.

Awareness Of Physical Activity Guidelines
Awareness of physical activity guidelines amongst the UK student population was found to be 69.6%
in this study. This varies considerably from awareness levels determine on a national level in other
developed, high income countries similar to the UK. A recent study in America for example, found
that just 36.1% of adults were aware that government physical activity guidelines (Kay et al., 2014).
This difference in awareness may be explained by a number of factors. Knowledge and awareness of
physical activity guidelines has been shown to be positively associated with education level and
socioeconomic status, as well as being negatively associated with age (Knox et al., 2013; Bergman et
al., 2008). This may partially explain why the university students in this study had a higher level of
awareness than the wider general population. When asked to recite the guidelines, it has been found in
other studies that those who participate in higher levels of physical activity, tend to overestimate the
guidelines, and those with low physical activity levels underestimate them on average (Hunter et al.,
2014; Knox et al., 2015). This agrees with the findings from this study, in which variation between the
perceived and actual guidelines was found to be an independent predictor of physical activity (p 0.05).
Whilst most participants (over 65%) in the study believed that they understood what the terms
moderate and vigorous physical activity meant. However, when their understanding was

What Does Plantinga s Evolutionary Argument Against Naturalism Say?
Plantinga s argument against naturalism is very engaging. He begins to state that a lot of people
believing Darwin s theory of evolution have misguided beliefs about naturalism. Comprehensively, he
argues that the contingency of humans having stable cognitive faculties is extremely inferior.
Plantinga cites C.S. Lewis in recognizing that evolutionary naturalism leads us to distrust. He brought
up that even Darwin had doubts along those lines. The essence of reasoning in Plantinga s argument is
that the reliability of evolutionary naturalism is very low. He says the people who believe the two,
evolution and naturalism, go hand in hand should reevaluate its soundness; and hence, withhold
approval from all other beliefs including evolutionary naturalism, said to be self defeating (316). ...

My Experience At High School
My mom and I were driving home from my club volleyball practice when I broke down in tears due to

decide how I would present myself in the new world of high school popularity, and I had no idea
whether I would choose the life of athletics or musical talents. My first instinct wanted to have the
best of both worlds. Maybe in the fall I could be part of the volleyball team and in the spring I could
pick up band and be involved in both organizations. I would be able to play the sport I loved and get

Texas Revolutionary War Research Paper
The Texas revolutionary war was in Texas began with the help of first the Spanish, and then Mexican,
governments. In the 1820 Moses Austin, a bankrupt 59 year old Missourian, asked Spanish authorities
for a large Texas land tract which he would promote and sell to American pioneers.
In 1821, the Spanish government gave him permission to settle 300 families in Texas. Spain
welcomed the Americans for two reasons to provide a buffer against illegal U.S. settlers, who were
making problems in east Texas even before the allotment was made to Austin, and to help make the

Stylistic Patterns In Darkness And Darkness By Joseph Marowe
Stylistic texture as part of the implicit characterization process is established as a characteristic of the
literary text. First, the reader/audience is faced with the question of the way individual sentences of a
speech relate to one another. Whether they are connected in a strictly logical way, whether they form a
more associative series, they always emphasize the structure of a character s level of awareness. All
significant deviations from the normal frequencies in the areas of syntactic and lexical selection and
combination can also serve to delineate a character: the frequency of certain sentence types (such as
statements or questions), the predominance of active or passive forms, the use of parallelisms and
antitheses, an abstract or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But fixed now in the meridian line,
Will send up fire to your turning spheres,
And cause the sun to borrow light of you; (p.44)
This is a form of expression which Marlowe nowhere else uses as often as in this play. Marlowe can
use imagery to differentiate his characters, for example, Bajazeth s speeches contain images from the
underworld and are full of monsters and darkness,
... sacrifice my heart to death and hell,
Before I yield to such a slavery. (p.43)
Then, as I look down to the damned fiends,
Fiends, look on me! and thou, dread god of hell. (p.44)
Tamburlaine speaks of the frame of heaven, the triple region of the air, his imagery referring to the
heavens and the classical heroes. The playwright ultimate goal was amplification. Tamburlaine s
speech is not redundant rhetoric, but it seems rational and also it seems to express what will happen.
There are sections in the play which compare Tamburlaine with rulers whose incapacity is marked by
their linguistic disability. Mycetes finds himself insufficient to express his sense of grievance, other
people have to speak for him, and his own attempts to speak lose themselves in mixed

Perfume
Perfume Commentary Throughout the story Perfume by Patrick Suskind, Grenouille is presented as an
outsider who is a product of both social and moral decay shown through his birth, description of the
setting and description of Grenouille s characteristics. Grenouille was born in the malodorous fish
market of Paris in the 18th century , where the 18th century was a period of tragedy and chaos where
foul smells were everywhere. Moreover, Grenouille being born in a fish market indicates the evil and
unnatural nature of Grenouille as he is born in the worst smelling, filthiest and unnatural place in
Paris. Even more, being born in a fish market in a pile of fish guts shows Grenouille as a victim of
social decay where society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grenouille is further conveyed as a victim of social decay when upper class supposedly high ranked
and highly respected people are portrayed as fools and almost idiots. Through Comic Irony Father
Terrier is seen as an uneducated fool and childish when using the phrase poohpeedooh . The repetition
of this phrase further illustrates the foolish nature of a highly respected person showing social decay.
Moreover, presenting the upper class in France as silly and foolish shows the decay of society and
how even foolish people such as Father Terrier are respected and looked up to making Grenouille a
victim to this social decay as well as an outsider as he does not respect these foolish upper class
people and does not follow the demands of society. Similarly, Grenouille is again seen as an outsider
when society refuses to accept him. His mother leaves him to die in a pile of fish guts and many others
refuse to take him in, leaving him as an unwanted outsider. Again this foreshadows his future actions
of violence and murder when society rejects him and many people act on their basic instincts and
leave him to die suggesting a sense of evil in him. Grenouille is further shown as an outsider when he
is described to have a lack of scent . This lack of scent clearly shows he

Themes In Noel Sturgeon s Environmentalism In Popular Culture
Open your eyes What if I told you that before you could even speak you would already have a
reputation, would you believe it? Noel Sturgeon, a professor of environmental studies at Washington
State University, fights against such injustices. In her 2009 novel Environmentalism in Popular
Culture: Gender, Sexuality, Race, and the Politics of the Natural, she utilizes rhetorical devices to
expose the corruption of popular advertising. The genre of this text gears towards her field of
expertise, classification using symbolic aspects of the environment. The time period that the text was
written is significant because it was the year that Obama was inaugurated, the the murder of Dr.
George Tiller, domestic abusive relationship of Chris Brown and Rihanna, and Sonia Sotomayor s
confirmation to the US Supreme court. These events demonstrate the opposite relationship of stepping
out of boundaries and confronting social injustices, but the death and beating in particular show the
rejection of homosexuality and women s rights. We are constantly moving back and forth on the
equality spectrum, and from a very young age we were fed subliminal messages of our certain roles in
society. Colonization, exploration, primitivism, racism, homophobia and sexism are presented to us
through popular advertising thus her audience is the entire nation. She uses our definition of what it
means to be natural and by doing so, people are given a reputation based on their race, gender or
sexuality.

Play, Recreation, And Sport In The Colonial Era
The concepts of play, leisure, recreation, and sport are often used interchangeably in conversation,
however, each concept has a different meaning, and a different role, in both individual lives and
society as a whole. After defining, comparing, and contrasting each concept, it is clear just how much
they differ from each other. Not only is it important to understand the similarities and differences of
each concept, but it s also important to know that historical factors represent a huge part of what we
know play, leisure, recreation, and sport to be today. The Colonial Era has been just one of the many
historical factors that has been influential in the development of these terms, specially in the
development of recreation and leisure. Along with definitions of the concepts and the role of historical

Often limited to children only, in today s society play can be associated with adults as well. Play
cannot be easily defined, but could be described by activity or behavior desired by an individual for
pleasure (Henderson, 2010, p. 32). Often seen in leisure activity, it also has the ability to allow
someone to express themselves in a passionate, energetic, imaginary way, whether the play is done in
a systematic or an unsystematic manner, with no tangible goal or reward expected (Henderson, 2010,
p. 9 p. 33). Play differs from leisure, recreation, and sport significantly in the fact that play refers to
behavior rather than the activity itself (Henderson, 2010, p. 45); however, it could be seen by some as
an essential part of life that enables an individual to deal with internal conflict, socialize with others,
and grants them the ability to function properly in our everyday life. Leisure is vital to an individual s

The Benefits Of Aerobic Exercise
Aerobic exercise has been studied and through those studies researchers have found that aerobic
exercise improves the cognitive abilities of young adults. Some of the cognitive abilities improved are
learning, memory, and decision making. Through aerobic exercise these cognitive abilities are
improved and sharpened. Aerobic exercise stimulates the hippocampus which is the area responsible
for memory and partly for learning. Another part aerobic exercise stimulates is the frontal cortex
which is the area responsible for decision making. Aerobic exercise also stimulates many parts of the
brain that together are responsible for our learning. Aerobic exercise combined with mental training is
what helps further the cognitive abilities of young adults. Through aerobic exercise the cognitive
abilities of young adults improve to new heights. Aerobic exercise has many beneficial effects in the
cognitive abilities of young adults. One of the big parts that aerobic exercise helps young adults with
is learning. Young adults performing aerobic exercise experience an increase in volume in the
hippocampus which helps benefit learning. The hippocampus is one of the parts in our brain
responsible for our learning. Aerobic exercise through studies has been shown to stimulate this part in
our brains. In Aerobic Exercise for New Brain Cells and Cognitive Performance the director states that
aerobic exercise can double the production of new brain cells in the hippocampus. This leads to new
brain connections that in turn improve the amount of information we can handle. One reason that
aerobic exercise helps stimulate the hippocampus is because it also stimulates BDNF production.
BDNF production is a nerve growth factor that boosts the growth of new brain cells in the
hippocampus. This leads to new brain cells being form which in turn improves cognitive abilities and
mood. While aerobic exercise does stimulate the hippocampus which boosts our learning, it is still
important to put in mental training so the new brains cells remain and don t die off. Through aerobic
exercise young adults will be able to handle more information which in turn will help increase their
performance in academics. Another cognitive ability that

Different societies exist throughout the world and within these societies each society develops culture
that works best for them. Within these cultures they pass all their acquired knowledge and traditions

marriage beliefs, their own values and feelings on life and religious beliefs. Cultures tend to have their
own way to run their government, and ways to keep their economy up to their standards. Most

Meanwhile, the segregation of jobs by gender and other factors affect pay equity. A term used back in
the 1980 s as a metaphor for the invisible and artificial barriers that blocked women and minorities

governmental, business structural and internal businesses all of which have ramifications on their

The Supreme Court, Which Does Overrule Its Precedent From
The Supreme Court, which does overrule its precedent from time to time, does not need to do a
lengthy analysis of each precedent s viability in every case. Rather, through its certiorari jurisdiction
(certiorari an order by which a higher court reviews a decision of a lower court), it selects cases and
issues that allow it to reconsider precedent on its own time. When the Court decides that a previous
decision may be in jeopardy, it often asks the parties to brief whether precedent should be overruled.4
The Court must still confront petitions questioning precedent, but it can dispose of these quickly and
without explanation if it so chooses through a simple denial of certiorari. This shows that horizontal

In their opinions it stated In approaching this problem, we cannot turn the clock back to 1868 when
the Amendment was adopted, or even to 1896 when Plessy v. Ferguson was written. We must consider
public education in the light of its full development and its present place in American life throughout
the Nation. Only in this way can it be determined if segregation in public schools deprives these
plaintiffs of the equal protection of the laws. They never say they overturn or change their minds on a
decision. They simply state that even though at the time of Plessy v. Ferguson the idea of it was
theoretically possible to be separate but equal, but when it was enforced the outcome did not support
that.
Here are the main arguments for the opposing side. The Supreme Court views it as a non mandatory
judicial policy. Stare decisis has an effect on collegiality within the Supreme Court justices. Schauer s
studies indicate that stare decisis has a rare and weak influence on the Court and most Supreme Court
decisions have not taken their predecessors seriously.
One of the main opposing arguments is that The Supreme Court has viewed horizontal stare decisis as
a non mandatory judicial policy. Example: Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v.
Casey. The Court chose not to overturn Roe v. Wade 8 despite its conflicted feelings about the
decision. Horizontal stare decisis is not applied with equal vigor in all cases.

Ecological Economics Vs. Neoclassical Welfare Economics Essay
Ecological Economics vs Neoclassical Welfare Economics
In the past, the economic school of thought regarded the resources as unlimited and focused on more
production under the light of the unlimited growth assumption. Every economic action was suggested
to only consider about making more profit. While the economy and the human population are
growing; more natural resources are used and more pollution is observed. Human become to deal with
the results of its production such as environmental problems and resource scarcity. A debate has
emerged in economics and the mainstream economics is brought into question since its unlimited
growth assumption is collapsed. Ecological economists argue the neoclassical welfare economics for
ignoring the environmental and ethic values by only focusing on the cost benefit analysis. It also
claims that the neoclassical economics fails to calculate the value of the environmental capital and the
loss of the economic activities on the environment. This paper is going to explain the problems with

NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF WORLD BANK S STRUCTURAL ADJUSTMENT PROGRAM (SAP)

Writing about the negative impacts of The World Bank Structural Adjustment Program in Ghana, my
country of origin is something I can do with my eyes closed, because being an ordinary Ghanaian,
born and raised in Ghana, I do not need a research to know what these institutions have done to the
developing countries they impose their ill intended programs on. Even the blind can feel hunger, lack
of access to good health care, high tariffs on basic utilities such as electricity and water which is as a

Summary Of The House On The Borderland
In Lauren Jae Gutterman s The House on the Borderland: Lesbian Desire, Marriage, and the
Household, Gutterman explained how women who are married, have tendencies to be with another
woman, but do not want to tell their husbands. During the 1950s to the late 1970s, many women
showed heterosexual norms. They took care of their families, and expressed unconditional love for
their spouse. However, if becoming close to another woman, they will soon start to become attracted
to them and then form a relationship. The urge to love another woman while loving their spouse was a
difficult task to balance for women. Not knowing if they will get caught or not, women who shown
interest in another woman had to keep it private, to prevent the family structure from getting ruined.
The absence of the husbands allowed the relationships of two women to happen. Gutterman states
Given wives limited mobility, and free time, most of their lesbian affairs took place in their own
homes. Many took advantage of their husbands absence to spend time with their lovers, carried on
affairs without their husbands knowledge (3). The interaction woman received from another woman
strengthened their relationship and the feelings they had for one another. Women were living two lives
around that time. In the light, they depicted an ordinary life of a woman, as she will be an outstanding
citizen in the community. The role of a woman in the day depicted how the woman took care of the

make his pubic realize they are more than just numbers dropping off the charts. He wishes to not only
inform, but also to inspire others to act. This essay expresses how he portrays his arguments
effectively; also identifying and analyzing the strategies that Guggenheim uses to organize and

Then a mass production was in effect in the states. getting America right back on its feet in the pacific. Many battles ensued in one of the worst world wars ever seen before. The first major keystone of the U.S defensive was the Battle of the midway. This is when the japanese had thought that most of the U.S carriers had been destroyed. They did not expect the the U.S.S t Yorktown to have made such a hasty repair at Pearl Harbor, This was an advantage had the U.S had against the Japs. These faulty japanese assumptions were there downfall due to the fact that the U.S had set up an ambush of their own. • 5. What It Means To Be A Feminist Struggle For Women One major problem in society is the confusion about what feminists stand for. I believe that this issue is of utmost importance, and it is imperative that people continue to be educated about equality. Teaching people what it actually means to be a feminist is of utmost importance to me. In other words, I feel it is my duty to clear up misunderstandings about what feminists all over the world are actually fighting for. A common misconception of the movement is that feminists believe that women are better than men. However, the definition of feminism is the advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. Feminists are fighting to be granted the same rights and opportunities as men, not to be granted rights and opportunities that surpass those of men. As a result of the previously stated misconception, the belief that men should not be feminists is often seen in society. A feminist is someone who believes in equality between the sexes men included. Having been wrongly informed about the definition of feminism, some men feel as if it would be wrong for them to be called a feminist because of what the term suggests. It would prove difficult for a man to share his beliefs concerning equality if he was under the impression that feminists fight for the idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gas Station Filling Station by Elizabeth Bishop heavily relies upon diction and word choice to create imagery to supports the main theme of the poem, which is that love can be found everywhere, even in unlikely places. In the second stanza of the poem, the author starts to discuss some of the inhabitants of the gas station. The describes the sons of the station owner as quick and saucy , using words with generally positive connotations. Quick gives a lively, and thus warm, feeling to the station, and saucy can literally mean lively when used in this context. • 14. Factors That Affect The Activity Of Contractile Activity During prolonged activity, muscles show a decline in ability to respond to stimulation with optimal levels of contractile activity; this is a phenomena denoted as muscle fatigue (MF) (1). The causes of MF are not yet understood, however there are many observations of associations between metabolic and biochemical factors with MF. In order for force to be generated by muscles, calcium ions which are released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum bind to troponin. The new troponin Ca2+ complex cause s tropomyosin to change shape, exposing the binding site on actin. Myosin then binds to actin, causing cross bridge tilting, and generating contraction (1). Lactic acid is commonly perceived as a primary cause of MF to due to its intracellular muscle acidosis effects. Acidosis lowers the sensitivity of the contractile apparatus to calcium ions, because the H+ ions competes against Ca2+ for binding to certain binding sites on troponin. (2).This leads to decreased force development. However, low pH has many effects which do not favour development of MF, such as its ability to help maintain excitability, and decreased rate of fatigue. Overall, there is little evidence suggesting that the net effect of lactic acid results in MF. Potassium ions is a metabolite which decreases calcium ion release from the SR. Shifts in levels of potassium and calcium ions in and around skeletal muscle fibres will alter the membrane potential of the muscle cell, making it more or less prone to stimulation. ... This varies considerably from awareness levels determine on a national level in other developed, high income countries similar to the UK. A recent study in America for example, found that just 36.1% of adults were aware that government physical activity guidelines (Kay et al., 2014). This difference in awareness may be explained by a number of factors. Knowledge and awareness of physical activity guidelines has been shown to be positively associated with education level and socioeconomic status, as well as being negatively associated with age (Knox et al., 2013; Bergman et al., 2008). This may partially explain why the university students in this study had a higher level of awareness than the wider general population. When asked to recite the guidelines, it has been found in other studies that those who participate in higher levels of physical activity, tend to overestimate the guidelines, and those with low physical activity levels underestimate them on average (Hunter et al., 2014; Knox et al., 2015). This agrees with the findings from this study, in which variation between the perceived and actual guidelines was found to be an independent predictor of physical activity (p 0.05). Whilst most participants (over 65%) in the study believed that they understood what the terms moderate and vigorous physical activity meant. However, when their understanding was ... Plantinga s argument against naturalism is very engaging. He begins to state that a lot of people believing Darwin s theory of evolution have misguided beliefs about naturalism. Comprehensively, he argues that the contingency of humans having stable cognitive faculties is extremely inferior. Plantinga cites C.S. Lewis in recognizing that evolutionary naturalism leads us to distrust. He brought up that even Darwin had doubts along those lines. The essence of reasoning in Plantinga s argument is that the reliability of evolutionary naturalism is very low. Play cannot be easily defined, but could be described by activity or behavior desired by an individual for pleasure (Henderson, 2010, p. 32). Often seen in leisure activity, it also has the ability to allow someone to express themselves in a passionate, energetic, imaginary way, whether the play is done in a systematic or an unsystematic manner, with no tangible goal or reward expected (Henderson, 2010, p. 9 p. 33). Play differs from leisure, recreation, and sport significantly in the fact that play refers to behavior rather than the activity itself (Henderson, 2010, p. 45); however, it could be seen by some as an essential part of life that enables an individual to deal with internal conflict, socialize with others, and grants them the ability to function properly in our everyday life. Some of the cognitive abilities improved are learning, memory, and decision making. Through aerobic exercise these cognitive abilities are improved and sharpened. Aerobic exercise stimulates the hippocampus which is the area responsible for memory and partly for learning. Another part aerobic exercise stimulates is the frontal cortex which is the area responsible for decision making. Aerobic exercise also stimulates many parts of the brain that together are responsible for our learning. Aerobic exercise combined with mental training is what helps further the cognitive abilities of young adults. Through aerobic exercise the cognitive abilities of young adults improve to new heights. Aerobic exercise has many beneficial effects in the cognitive abilities of young adults. One of the big parts that aerobic exercise helps young adults with is learning. Young adults performing aerobic exercise experience an increase in volume in the hippocampus which helps benefit learning. The hippocampus is one of the parts in our brain responsible for our learning. Aerobic exercise through studies has been shown to stimulate this part in our brains. In Aerobic Exercise for New Brain Cells and Cognitive Performance the director states that aerobic exercise can double the production of new brain cells in the hippocampus. This leads to new brain connections that in turn improve the amount of information we can handle. One reason that aerobic exercise helps stimulate the hippocampus is because it also stimulates BDNF production. BDNF production is a nerve growth factor that boosts the growth of new brain cells in the hippocampus. This leads to new brain cells being form which in turn improves cognitive abilities and mood. While aerobic exercise does stimulate the hippocampus which boosts our learning, it is still important to put in mental training so the new brains cells remain and don t die off. Through aerobic exercise young adults will be able to handle more information which in turn will help increase their performance in academics. Another cognitive ability that ... Rather, through its certiorari jurisdiction (certiorari an order by which a higher court reviews a decision of a lower court), it selects cases and issues that allow it to reconsider precedent on its own time. When the Court decides that a previous decision may be in jeopardy, it often asks the parties to brief whether precedent should be overruled.4 The Court must still confront petitions questioning precedent, but it can dispose of these quickly and without explanation if it so chooses through a simple denial of certiorari.
