David And Goliath And Casey At Bat Essay
In the poem Casey at Bat and story David and Goliath, a comparison and contrast will show several
differences and similarities between David and Casey. The first similarity between David and Casey is
that both of them are very confident in the task that they have to accomplish. Text from Casey at Bat
says, There was pride in Casey s bearing and a smile on Casey s face. And when, responding to the
cheers, he lightly doffed his hat, No stranger in the crowd could doubt twas Casey at the bat. David
and Goliath says, Today the Lord will help me defeat you. I ll knock you down and cut off your head,
and I ll feed the bodies of the other Philistine soldiers to the birds and wild animals. Casey at Bat
explains how Casey was very confident ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He killed him without even using a sword. Secondly, this quote explains how David killed Goliath and
succeeded greatly.Secondly, a difference between Casey and David is that Casey had an encouraging
crowd at his baseball game that was very confident in him, whereas David had no encouragement
from the people around him. Casey at Bat says, Then from 5,000 throats and more there rose a lusty
yell; It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell; It knocked upon the mountain and recoiled
upon the flat, For Casey, mighty Casey, was advancing to the bat. As the first quote explains how
Casey had a huge crowd cheering him on that was very confident in him. In David and Goliath it says,
Some soldiers overheard David talking, so they told Saul what David had said. Saul sent for David,
and David came. 32 Your Majesty, he said, this Philistine shouldn t turn us into cowards. I ll go out
and fight him myself! 33 You don t have a chance against him, Saul replied. You re only a boy, and he
s been a soldier all his life. No one had faith in David and no one thought that David would succeed,
which is explained in this quote.A final difference between Casey and David is that Casey was
independent, but David was not

Jealousy In King Lear By William Shakespeare
Everyone at one point or another gets angry at others for whatever reason. Some people, when
angry, decide to take it out with violence where others tend to hold it within themselves. In the play,
King Lear, by William Shakespeare, characters are destroyed throughout the play, showing how
destructive the emotions of anger is to others. King Lear, Edmund and Gloucester show symptoms of
some form of madness either assumed or genuine through jealousy, overconfidence, and manipulation;
Lear s madness is completely genuine and is caused by himself and others, Edmund s madness is
fueled by jealousy and manipulation, and Gloucester s madness is mainly caused by his son Edmund.
King Lear is the main character in the play by William Shakespeare. He demonstrates ... Show more

The audience begins to get an idea that Edmund may be plotting against his father and step brother. In
the next act, he manipulates and convinces Edgar to runaway from home and he says My father hath
set guard to take my brother/...Briefness and fortune, work!!! (2.1.16 18). He is planning a very
elaborate scheme to get Edgar to disappear from the kingdom for good, in order for him to take the
reigns at the helm. Edmund is also greedy for power and fame. The audience pities Edgar because he
has done nothing wrong and doesn t suspect Edmund to be so cruel. In the following act, Edmund is
foreshadowing the fall of his father, The younger rises when old doth fall (3.3.25). He has gone
borderline insane because he is willing to overthrow his own faither. This creates suspense for the
audience because he refers himself as the young and referring his father as the old. Edmund s madness
is genuine because if it was assumed he would not be able to plan and execute those terrible plans to
the people who love him, family. Jealousy and manipulation can override people s conscious and make
them do whatever it takes to get what they

Why Is College Education Worth The Expense
Is College Education Worth The Expense What is your plan after high school? Maybe you will go live
in your parent s basement while you look for a job. Or maybe you will start your own company. Or
you will go to college. The only person who can decide what they want to do with their life is you.
Now I believe that going to college will be a lot more helpful than just skipping college and getting a
job right away. Or starting your own company. Now some of the reasons why you should go to college
are you will get a high percentage of getting the job that you want. A lot of jobs require a degree, but
some people don t know that. Like let s say someone wants to become a scientist well u would have to
get a college degree to become one. Some jobs don t require a degree ,but most good jobs do. When
you go to college to get your degree in something. You don t just learn how to do your job. You also
learn to live on your own. Instead of just living on your own. College also teaches you how to live on
your own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did Confucianism Lead To The Decline Of The Ming Dynasty
Qing made slight changes to Ming culture when they conquered China in 1644. Allowing for more
continuity than change allowed for stability in China and with this stability China was able to continue
on to new heights.
To stay united as one the Qing Dynasty adopted the Ming Dynasty political system in order for them
to stay strong. Although they adopted the Ming government platform they still made slight changes in
the government that would suit their dynasty. The Ming dynasty ran by Emperor Hongwu, who made
the government very political active by scholars. Who aided rulers to become emperors. Also making
it political active Emperor Hongwu divided China into provinces, districts and countries. Which
resulted in political failure, the neglect in the government began to hamper China leading ... Show

Confucianism originated from Kong Fuzi a Chinese philosopher around 551 479 BCE. It was practice
by the whole Chinese community. The religion was accepted because, Confucianism offers humanistic
moral and ethical guidance for behavior and proper relationships, primarily that of monarch and
subject, father and son, husband and wife, elder brother and younger brother, and friend with friend
(World History). Confucius inforces orders to the Chinese society making sure they stay active and
carry out their individual roles. Especially, the rulers, Confucius promotes that emperors/rulers should
act virtuously. The people being the most active were the Jesuits. They tried to coordinate between
Christian and Confucian concepts, they were also very helpful. For example, they helped with western
ideas making them more accepting in the court. The most importantly in the Confucian religion people
were to respect their elders and treat others how you d wanted to be treated. Spirituality is not a

Biography Of Martin Luther King s Black Power
Grace Wolfe, J00548214

4 November 2015
Chapter 24 Epilogue pp. 341 348
Many people had imperceptible answers to the questions like, what did it all mean in the end and what
were the accomplishments? Stokely Carmichael wrote a book called Black Power and in it he wrote
about how black people in that time did not accept segregation. Martin Luther King also made
important points in his speeches about segregation and how during this time black people decided to
make a change. The movement in the Alabama Black Belt lasted the longest and many people do not
acknowledge that fact. Even after all the protests started to fade away from the headlines, black people
in Alabama continued to protest for freedom. Many black citizens in Alabama began to realize that
there were other white people in Alabama who also wanted to end segregation. In Lowndes County,
Alabama, there was a rich man who owned thousands of acres of land, named Harrell Hammonds.
Hammonds was a probate judge who raised cattle and grew cotton on his farm. Hammonds was also
an aristocratic politician. Many people noticed Hammonds as being against segregation. Hammonds
argued in a court of law that everyone should be treated equally no matter the color of their skin. Later
in his life, Hammonds also gave his support for black people to be able to get an equal education as
white people.
There was an unhappy ending to Hammonds support to end segregation. Many people threatened his

To maximise foreign exchange earnings efficiency, countries where imports are attained from should
be targeted for tourism promotion, so as to allow influx of there currency. E.g. if most of the
mechanical imports come from Switzerland the government usually has to source Swiss Francs. This
can be done by targeting Swiss tourists.
Rise in Gross National Product
Tourism is an economic activity that provides to the GNP and per capita income of a country. In
countries with rich tourist history it could provide up to 25% of the local economy.
In 1994 Korea[3] for instance set up a successful 5 year plan that help them achieve a U.S $ 500
million income from tourism this target was shifted to US $ 10 Billion for the year 2000.(ref)

Elitism In Government
The ability to compel another person to comply with one s intentions is known as power. Authority is
a form of power that takes its force from legitimacy, political authority that is assigned by the law or
the state through legal documents. The government is an institution that is based upon authority. There
are various ways in which authority can be conferred upon a governmental institution and many
opinions on how it should be used. Thomas Jefferson states that a good government should be
considerate of the people s needs, and should concern itself with protecting its citizens without
interfering with citizens personal affairs. According to this interpretation, the government must be
restricted in its authority, should act in the interests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a government such as Jefferson describes, majoritarian politics is most fitting. Majoritarian politics
generally occurs when the government considers issues important to the people. The people have more
power because pressure from the majority opinion is exerted on the leader. Meanwhile, elitism occurs
when public opinion is largely absent, giving leaders greater freedom to act in self interest. There are
several theories of elitism: Marxism, which describes power as being in the hands of business leaders,
a view exemplified by the influence held by American capitalists; the power elite theory, in which key
leaders in society control and are served by the government, can be seen in the influence held by the
media and wealthy members of society; the bureaucratic view, which holds the official as the vessel of
power and hand behind administrative action, and may be exemplified by members of Congress, who
deliberate amongst themselves on matters that may concern the public; and the pluralist view, which
describes various powerful groups in government and politics as cooperating with each other while
being aware of the public opinion in order to maintain popularity. This is observed in the cooperation
between various branches of government and powerful organizations. Elitism allows for more self
interest. Although a self interested government does not necessarily dictate that policies will be
unbeneficial for the people, it is on the whole detrimental and less restricted than the ideal Jefferson
held for government. A majoritarian government is best suited to Jefferson s idea of

Sophocles Antigone Theater played a large role in ancient Greek society. The citizens were meant to
learn from the mistakes made in tragedies. They should have learned what not to be like as a citizen or
human. In the classic tragedy Antigone, the third and final play in Sophoclesšs Oedipus Cycle, there
are two main characters, Antigone and Creon. They are both strong willed and stubborn people. By
their resistance to change, they both seal each others fate. Antigone is passionate... Creon is full of

Creon and Antigone and they are both very strong in their views. Creon is devoted to his laws, while
Antigone is loyal to her beliefs. Creon refuses to give in and alter his law. He labels those who dare

who control different aspects of their life. Prior to visiting the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan mandir, I had

I spent all day at the temple and talked to many people. I knew Diwali was a festival of lights but I
managed to learn a lot more about it while I was there from a multitude of people of all ages. They
told me Diwali celebrates the return of Rama and Sita, in the story from the Ramayana, which are
considered different gods to them. The story of Rama and Sita shows how good wins over evil. The
significance of the celebration is to call awareness to this goddess who symbolizes prosperity. For
Hindu s, light is a representation for prosperity while the dark signifies ignorance. All of India
celebrates this festival, however most call it by its Sanskrit name, Deepavali. Since India is so large,
they follow separate calendars, which causes the North and South to celebrate the religious festival at
different times of the year. Usually it is celebrated on a day called Amavasya, which is a new moon.
The sky is dark and therefore the lighting is more noticeable; prosperity is shown more heavily. The
northern part of India celebrates it as a holiday for the new year while the South continues to keep it
more traditional by having the festival on the day when their god, Krishna, conquered the King who

1890, published a series of Sherlock Holmes stories, this let both the detective and the magazine

Instead Doyle s output of gradual information through Watson and the reader feels as though they
themselves are walking in the footsteps of Holmes good friend Dr Watson, solving the crime by with
the great detective of all time. Although very small but vital pieces of information is kept from the
reader, to ensure Sherlock Holmes always has the upper hand in the investigation. An example of this
is in Silver Blaze , when Holmes asks the inspector for a picture of John Straker but does not include
an explanation of why he needs it, this automatically builds suspension upon the reader s minds , as
they starts to wonder what Holmes knows that he is yet inform Watson about. Until the crime is solved
the reader will be full of anticipation and with the information that had been given to them, they ll try
to solve the case themselves.
In both The Red Headed League and Silver Blaze , Holmes holds back on the information he shares
with Watson and doesn t give away too much to Watson, and since Watson is the narrator, information
is also held back from the readers and all information that is given is given at a gradual pace. This
similarity shows that this is obviously a continuous technique of Doyle. An example of this in Red
Headed League is; Why do you beat the pavement? My dear Doctor, this is a time of observation...the

Hegel Sense And Certaintyity
Hegel s discussion and refutation of sense certainty is the beginning of his discussion of consciousness
in the Phenomenology of Spirit. From this discussion, he lays the groundwork from which he reaches
absolute knowledge. In this essay, I will focus on Hegel s discussion of sense certainty. Following a
brief summary of my interpretation of sense certainty, this essay will mainly focus on paragraph 91 in
which Hegel acknowledges the attributes and deficiencies of sense certainty. Since the paragraph itself
is too long to quote and analyze, I will choose a few key quotes from the paragraph to discuss in
detail. Further, since this is the beginning of sense certainty and the claims he makes regarding sense
certainty will later be refuted, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also the case that I am certain of this item not for the reason that the item of which I am certain
would exist in terms of a rich relation of diverse states in itself, or because it would be related in
multifarious ways to others. Both have nothing to do with the truth of sense certainty; in that certainty,
neither I nor the item mean a manifold of mediation ; I does not mean a manifold of diverse activities
of representing and thinking, nor does the item mean a manifold of diverse states ; rather, the item is,
and it is merely because it is (Pinkard 2010). Hegel further continues his criticism of the objects of
sense certainty in these sentences. Since the consciousness can t, according to sense certainty,
comprehend and use its mental capacity to conceptualize the object, its is limited to mere being as it
is. This being as it is stems from apprehension which allows the subject to apply universals to objects
of sense certainty. This application of universals blends one object with others since universals can be
applicable to other things as well. Therefore, a person is only aware of an empty universal according
to Hegel who concluded that this is one of the major faults of sense certainty. Sense certainty fails in
this regard because apprehension does not transcend the universal...which does not

Central Auditory Processing Disorder
Except for outwardly appearances, speech may be the one of the most defining elements of a person s
identity, psychologists generally consider language a prime manifestation of underlying cognitive
processes (Solso, MacLin, MacLin, 2008, p. 468). Just by listening over the phone, I can tell whether
a family member is feeling positive, in ill health, or worried about events in their lives. Should vocal
language be the only measure of underlying cognitive processes?
As a small child, it was frustrating to not be able to make the adults in my life understand me. Many
years later after development of the brainstem auditory evoked response test (BAER), a doctor who it
seemed was always on the cutting edge of his science and working with neurologists at the old
Lovelace Medical Center, tested my hearing using the BAER . For me, the results of this test were life
changing because for the first time in 28 years my not being able to understand much of the
conversation around me and consequently, my ability to communicate had a name a diagnosis central
auditory processing disorder I heard at two different speeds and both were at a slower rate than that of
the general population.
The BAER measures latency in milliseconds or in layman terms, the BAER measures the length of
time it takes for sound to travel from the ear to the brain stem (Ness, 2009). An important benefit of
the BAER is that it can be easily used for diagnosis of auditory processes in infants and young

Berdan Primers
The Berdan Primer or as I like to call it, the Burden primer, is referred to as non U.S. ammunition due
to the USA primarily using Boxer primers. Berdan primers are widely used outside of the U.S. and
normally found on cheap surplus ammunition. Berdan primers were created by Col. Hiram Berdan,
but not widely accepted in the U.S. due to its failure to easily be reloaded. These primers are; very
difficult to remove, time consuming and often require costly special tools to remove. The Berdan
primer has an anvil with a minimum of two flash holes, that are located inside the primer pocket of the
case. Berdan primed cartridges are still common around the globe, and it can perform like the Boxer.
Some aluminum and steel cartridges are often Berdan primed with the initials NR because they are not
manufactured to be reloaded. This also saves manufactures a little money, making it a single shot
cartridge. It s low cost and can be used for hunting and target shooting. Some older Berdan primed
cartridges had problems with corrosion, but modern cartridges don t seem to have this problem.
Throughout the years, hand loaders and Gunsmiths have become innovative and created better ways to
not only de prime Berdan primers, but to also reload and even convert the cases. When de priming the

How The Stock Market Affects The Economy
In the late October of 1929, the United States Stock Market took an immense plummet. This plummet
acted as a catalyst to the beginning of the 10 year long Great Depression. It was known as Black
Tuesday, aka the Wall Street Crash of 1929. (Harold)
Prior to the crash, the roaring twenties built up the stock market. It was a time of wealth, success, and
triumph. It all began with an enormous drop in the market. Panic flooded throughout the entire United
States causing millions of people to pull out, in attempt to keep the little money they had left.
(Colombo)
The Stock Market is a vast and confusing setting. It has influence on many aspects of the economy
like pensions, bond markets, and even retirement accounts. However, many aren t educated about how
the Stock market works, how it affects the economy, the difference between stocks versus bond and
mutual funds, nor the amount of illegal activities taking part within the stock market.
There are a few terms new stock investors should learn before actually beginning to put money into
the stock market. You hear words like shares , assets , and even earnings when you watch or listen to
people on the television. Shares are a percentage of the company, if you buy a share; you own a small
percentage of it and its earnings. Earnings are all the money that the company makes. Assets involve
all the company owns, for example, trademarks, equipment, and even the buildings their workers work
in. Companies put their assets and

Effective Repair Synthesis Essay
For the uninformed, identifying where that squeak or thunk is coming from on your car or truck, or
determining where that pungent odour is coming from, can be quite disconcerting. However, being
cognizant of usual noises and smells emanating from your vehicle will help you nip potential
automotive problems in the bud. Early detection of strange sounds or smells coming from your vehicle
can help reduce repair costs, and if you are like me, everyone hates to pay those exorbitant fees
charged by automotive repair shops these days, right? Here are some tips to help you identify some of
those early tell tale signs, just by using your nose and ears. A very common sound is brake squeal. On
domestic vehicles brake squealers are used. These are little pieces of wire that touch the brake rotor
when the brakes are applied. Those are designed to alert you the driver, that there is very little brake
pad material left, and that it s time to replace the pads. On import vehicles, if you experience brake
squeal, it may be dust particles or sharp edges on the surface of the pads rubbing on the rotor. The

alternative is to replace the unit. Fan belt squeal, experienced when the engine is revving, can be

Disneyland
Disneyland is the happiest place on Earth. It is one of the two theme parks built on the Disneyland
Resort in Anaheim, California and it s not only in California, it s also in Tokyo, France and Hong
Kong. It opened on July 17, 1955 by the one and only Walter Elias Walt Disney. Disney was born in
Hermosa, Illinois on December 5, 1901 and died on December 15, 1966 at the age of 65. He died of
lung cancer that was brought from his lifelong chain smoking. This amusement park came onto Walt s
head after seeing his own two daughters in an amusement park that was dirty with trash everywhere.
After thinking about the filthiness in the amusement park, he imagined a clean and safe amusement
park which is now known as Disneyland. Disney isn t just only known for being the founder of
Disneyland and Walt Disney World, but also for being an innovated animator who created the famous
cartoon character known as Mickey Mouse.

The level of intensity is much lower if you re standing on the sidelines rather than taking part in the

The Impact Of The Golden Age Of Literature
With the end of the conflict that resulted to the war between the United States of America and Great
Britain after the ratification of the Treaty of Ghent, America entered into an era that saw great changes
politically, economically, and socially. The presidential elections were more vibrant as more men
partook in the exercise, the industrial and economic growth was notably consistent with growth in
science, arts, and the textile industries, and the emancipation of slavery led to the end of that trade
with the civil war of 1861 to 1865. The crucial development of this century was the development and
changes that saw the beginning of a new era of politics. As result of the high political contention
between the Democrats and the Whigs, American would have twenty presidents between 1825 with
John Quincy Adams win and William McKinley in 1897. The presidential contention of 1824 between
John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson would take the American politics to a new height. Even

Field Dependence And Information Processing Models
Field Dependence and Information Processing Models
Information processing models (IPM), first developed in the 1950s, seek to explain how learners
observations and novel experiences are transformed via processes related to memory, cognition, and
thinking to allow for new knowledge acquisition (Schraw McCrudden, 2013). In this model, the brain
functions in a similar manner as a computer that is receiving inputs, processing the input, and
delivering an output (In an article describing IPM, Schraw and McCrudden (2013) detail how the
components of IPM work to form new knowledge. By this model, learning begins at the sensory
memory level, the temporary register of inputs we sense. Up to 5 7 pieces of discreet data can be
acknowledged by the brain at any given time. These data are processed in a very short amount of time,
and if deemed stimulating or interesting, the data will be transferred to the working memory,
otherwise it will be forgotten or discarded. In working memory, also called short term memory, data
are chunked into meaningful units or otherwise processed. Information in working memory can be lost
due to interference, decay, or retrieval failure. Information that does remain in working memory is
rehearsed or deeply processed before being sent to long term memory. Long term memory stores both
inactivated memories, and activation memories that it sends back to the working memory for further
processing and rehearsal (Schraw McCrudden, 2013).

audi s style could be described as a mix of Art Nouveau and his own unique organic style, which was
influenced by shapes and structures from the natural world. One of Gaudi s most impressive and
beautiful buildings is Casa BatllĂł. GaudĂ designed the building for Josep BatllĂł, a wealthy aristocrat,
as an upmarket home. He had asked Gaudi to tear down the old one to reconstruct a new one. GaudĂ
managed to convince BattlĂł to remodel the existing building instead of tearing it down, and between
1904 and 1906 he redesigned the facade and roof, added an extra floor and completely remodeled the
interior. This building clearly illustrated Gaudi s work. His use of flowing organic lines are evident

This work of Gaudi I believe is a clear example of an Artist s vision. Gaudi incorporated his
creativeness into a building produced a concrete example of his vision. To me it feels like this building
you might see in Disneyland, but here it is on a normal street of Barcelona erected amongst other
buildings. Yet it questions our imagination. The curves, the colour scheme that is used, the use of
bones, it is simply captivating! This is what Gaudi s work is about to create an impact on its viewers. I
really appreciate this work of his because he created something completely different, something out of
the ordinary.
Another one of Gaudi s famous work is the Sagrada Familia. Though it is unfinished it is still on of the
famous attractions in Barcelona. Whilst the building was actually started by Francisco de Paula Villar,
It was Antonio Gaudi who took over in 1884 by finishing the underground crypt that Villar had begun
to give Sagrada Familia a unique twist and a revolutionary design. Gaudi incorporates his religious
side into this building.
The church was designed to have a total length of 110 m, and a height of 45 m, with twelve towers
between 100 and 115 m high. The ground plan is a Gothic basilical plan in the shape of a Latin cross,
with five naves connecting with a transept that connects to three naves, apse, and ambulatory. The rest

post is for students to write a brief bio about themselves, including their goals and aspirations for

not just another student lost in the crowd. Students are placed in cooperative learning groups where
they work with a partner to improve their understanding of different math concepts.
Additionally, I use a toolbox of leadership strategies that are implemented throughout the semester

Plato Dualism
Dualism is the division of two entities. However, in the case of philosophy, dualism is expanded upon
this definition and is focused on the separation of the mind and the body. There are several different
types of dualism that deal with the mind and body. There are substance dualists and property dualists
and within these different types of dualism, there are more subcategories within them. For instance, in
the substance dualism, there are interactionists, occasionalists, parallelists, and epiphenomenalists. All
of these subcategories believe that the mind is not the same as the brain and that the mind is not a
creation of the brain. Plato and Descartes believed in these two common features of dualism as well.
Although they had similar approaches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes used Leibniz s Law of Identity to prove that the mind and the body are considered to be
different because they didn t have the same properties. The Leibniz s Law of Identity states that if two
articles have identical properties, then the articles must be identical. The same can be said if the
articles were not identical. Descartes had used the property of divisibility to illustrate the difference
between the body and the mind. For instance, when one loses an arm, it is theoretically possible for
the rest of the body to still exist. However, divisibility is difficult to use when it comes to the mind.
For instance, it is impossible for someone to feel half depressed. The mind cannot be divided up like
how a body can. Another property that is different between the mind and the body is the ability to take
up space. Since the body has the capacity to take up volume and a mind does not have this capacity,
they are considered to have different property. Thus, the differences allow the mind and body to be
separate

An Unwinnable War
As America find herself in today s War on Terrorism, one can easily find a number of similarities
between today s situation and the war in Vietnam. As the Taliban steadily loses control and power over
Afghanistan, it becomes exceedingly important to discuss potential replacement governments.
Afghanistan is, like Vietnam in the 50 s and 60 s, a very volatile country full of a variety of people
speaking different dialects and practicing different religions. It is very important, then, that the
government that is installed is one that is capable of maintaining some type of control or authority
over its diverse people. On July 7, 1954, Ngo Dinh Diem came to power as the Prime Minister of

Of course the irony is that Diem took steps to prevent the 1956 unification election, which is normally
a prerequisite for a democracy (Starr 39). He did stage an election for himself, but it was certainly
rigged being that Saigon with roughly 405,000 registered voters, somehow cast 605,000 votes for
Diem (Starr 39).
Diem was therefore determined to be the best man for the job of preventing communism in S.
Vietnam. One reason is most likely because he was Westernized being that he lived for some time in
the Mayknoll Seminaries in New Jersey and New York State (Genesis 116). He quickly gained the
approval of American Catholics such as Cardinal Spellman, which certified Diem as an important anti
Communist (Scheer 116). Some Americans were skeptical of Diem at the time, but as Secretary John
Foster Dulles simply stated, the United States could simply not find a better man to carry out its
designs and Diem is only means US sees to save South Vietnam and counteract revolution. US sees no
one else who can (Gettleman 133). This is, however, a little unsettling being that it sounds as though
the U.S. merely settled on Diem in lieu of a better candidate.
The American people then, perhaps influenced by the media, agreed with their government s approval
of Diem. In the June 29, 1959 edition of Newsweek, Diem was deemed one of the ablest free Asian

When Reading “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” By
When reading Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas, Acquainted with the Night
by Robert Frost, and Sestina by Elizabeth Bishops, the authors use unique imagery, symbolism, and
metaphors to demonstrate a dark atmosphere during the poems. Each poem deals with dark tones such
as depression, sadness, and death. By using imagery, symbolism, and metaphors, the authors are able
to intensify the overall mood of the poems. Thomas uses metaphors to show different settings of his
poem throughout the days and Frost utilizes metaphors, symbolism and imagery to represent the local

each stanza had exactly ten syllables and every other word was stressed while reading. This poem also
uses night as a metaphor. Throughout the poem, darkness is represented by the night. It doesn t
represent death, but it is more of a metaphor for depression or sadness. The poem tells of a man that is
walking alone at night through a city. The narration of the poem not only uses night as a metaphor, it
also uses imagery and symbolism to enhance the depth of the poem. In the poem, the man hears a cry

used to depict the man as being alone and not around anything. He has walked away from all the lights
of the city and is in the darkness of the night. No one else is around and people would have a hard
time hearing him from where he is. When the man passed a watchman, he dropped my eyes. (Frost

In Raymond Carter s Popular Mechanics, he incorporates Weather to show the scene getting dark;
however the relationship s also getting darker and darker also. Raymond Carter uses the picture of the

Plato, Locke, And The Question Of Innate Ideas
Plato, Locke and the Question of Innate Ideas
Plato and Locke have opposite opinions on the matter of innate ideas. Plato argues that the recognition
of truth in reality is derived from the recollection of truth in the soul. A necessary part of Plato s
argument is that recollection of Truth depends upon the existence of an immortal soul. Locke, on the
other hand, rejects Plato s argument by stating that the recognition of truth is not dependent on
recollection but is rather self evident. In other words, Locke argues that one does not need to
understand truth to know it or admit of the existence of an immortal soul, for truth according to Locke
reveals itself by virtue of its being true. This paper will analyze the arguments of each philosopher and
show why I believe Plato to have the better argument on the matter of recollection and innate ideas in
the soul.
Analysis of Plato s Doctrine of Recollection in Meno and Phaedo Plato states that all inquiry and all
learning is but recollection (81). Socrates uses Meno s slave to show that knowledge comes from
recollection. This is Plato s way of stating that recognition of truth depends on the use of one s
intellect. Truth may be understood as the conformity of intellect with reality. By using his intellect,
Meno s slave recognizes the truth of the measurement of squares drawn by Socrates. Socrates calls
this action recollection. The act of recollecting, or using the intellect, is defined by Socrates as one

Holmes Sheppard Case
Why does a trial get a retrial when the first trial served justice? Dr. Samuel Holmes Sheppard was
born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1923. He studied at Hanover College and Western Reserve University.
Sheppard pursued careers in medicine. He got married in 1945 to his high school girlfriend, Marilyn.
After a few years of their marriage, they returned back to Cleveland, Ohio. Until July 4, 1954, they
lived a charmed life in a wealthy neighbourhood. Then suddenly on July 4, 1954, Marilyn was found
dead in their bedroom. This case is known as one of the longest running and most sensationalized
court cases in the United States history because of the elements of doubt within the case. Dr. Sheppard
was convicted of the murder. In the first trial, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, prosecution didn t realize about phone calling his friend when Sheppard can check the pulse by
himself. Even though he is a doctor, why would he call his friend to check whether she died or not? It
doesn t matter what kind of doctor you are, all the doctors were trained the basic things such as
checking pulse. For me, I learned it when I was in 8th grade, so Sheppard should know it. This shows
that he knew she died, but he called his friend, so in case if gets in trouble, his friend s testimony can
save him. Secondly, neither the defense nor the prosecution brought up about his make up stories. In
the article by Larkin, B, from Speaking up for Marilyn in the 60 year old Sam Sheppard murder case
stated that when Sheppard was making alibis to walk away when he got arrested. However, in the
second trial, no one brought it up. When Sheppard was arrested he said that there was blushy haired
killed her. However, there wasn t any damaged in the house. Unfortunately, no one brought this up.
Thirdly, the defense counsel didn t let Sheppard to testify because Sheppard s Cool, pedantic style did
not make a good impressions with the 1954 trial. ( Linder, Law2) If the defense counsel allowed it
then the truth would have been out. Fourthly, the bloodstain on his pants, which shows that he when

Mitochondrial DNA Research
Mitochondrial DNA is the small circular chromosome that is found inside mitochondria. These
organelles that are found in cells are called the powerhouse of the cells. Mitochondria and
Mitochondrial DNA are only passed from mother to offspring through the egg. Mitochondrial DNA is
a small part of the DNA in a eukaryotic cell. There are 16,569 base pairs of mitochondrial DNA which
only code for 37 genes. Mitochondrial DNA is very helpful in tracking ancestry through females and
individuals back hundreds of generations. In order for biologists to track the mtDNA they need to
determine and compare the mtDNA from different people. The statistics gathered from the
comparisons is used to make a network of relationships between the series, when they do this it gives
an estimate of the relationship between the individuals from which ... Show more content on

They use mtDNA testing to find soldiers that are MIA. At the end of the Vietnam War close to 2,500
soldiers were MIA. MtDNA testing was used heavily in finding some of these missing soldiers. Once
they figure out that a mtDNA is necessary for identification, a sample is cut from the remains of the
body and is sent for testing. From there the mitochondrial DNA is taken from the the sample and put
into a emulsifying solutions that bring the mtDNA out. A sequencing process is then used to look at

of California Department of Justice Lab, said MtDNA should only be used as corroborative evidence.
Corroborative evidence is evidence rah supports a proportion that is already supported by some initial
evidence, therefore confirming the evidence. So what John Tonkyn is saying that they should only use
mtDNA when they have some evidence of who the person is, but want to support

The Causes Of The Zodiac Killer
The first murders widely attributed to the Zodiac Killer were the shootings of high school students
Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday on December 20, 1968, on Lake Herman Road, just inside
Benicia city limits. Shortly after 11:00 p.m. their bodies were found. Robert Graysmith postulated that
another car pulled into the turnout, just prior to 11:00 pm and parked beside the couple. Jensen
appeared to have exited the car first, yet when Faraday was halfway out, the killer apparently shot
Faraday in the head. Fleeing from the killer, Jensen was gunned down twenty eight feet from the car
with five shots through her back. The killer then drove off.
Just before midnight on July 4, 1969, Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau drove into the Blue Rock
Springs Park in Vallejo, four miles from the Lake Herman Road murder site. A second car drove into
the lot and parked alongside them but almost immediately drove away. Returning about 10 minutes
later, this second car parked behind them. The driver of the second car then exited the vehicle,
approaching the passenger side door of Ferrin s car, carrying a flashlight and a 9 mm Luger. The killer
directed the flashlight into Mageau s and Ferrin s eyes before shooting at them, firing five times. Both
victims were hit, and several bullets had passed through Mageau and into Ferrin. The killer walked
away from the car but upon hearing Mageau s moaning, returned and shot each victim twice more
before driving off. Ferrin was pronounced dead at the

Assimilation In A Raisin In The Sun
In A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry shines a spotlight on Beneatha who reinvigorates the belief
that freedom is life, and while the Younger family may be free in some ways, society still attempts to
confine them in others. Throughout the play Hansberry depicts the restrictions that society has placed
on the hopes and dreams of the family, specifically those of Beneatha, Walter, and Mama. Hansberry
thus conveys that assimilating into society is negative because by assimilating one is submitting to the
limitations society attaches to one s labels.
Hansberry communicates that assimilation is negative through her portrayal of assimilation and the
beliefs of society as directly responsible for the deference of dreams. Society is responsible for
instilling disillusion and defeat within the family to the point that Mama believes that God didn t see
fit to give the black man nothing but dreams. The idea that because of their ethnicity, everything they
want in life must remain an impossible fantasy. Assimilation has tied Mama to what she has been told
is her harsh reality, that she can never own a house and a garden. Mama s assimilation and dream
deference do not only affect Mama s life, but the lives of Beneatha and Walter as well because Mama
s submission to society s constraints cause her to discourage her children in pursuing their dreams.
However, unlike Mama Beneatha doesn t let the dominant. . . oppressive culture chain her dreams.
Beneatha, despite the

The Giant Panda and the Polar Bear
According to a reliable website The giant panda is a well known and well loved species that is being
driven to extinction by habitat loss. It has become one of the most endangered mammals in the world,
with only 1,600 of them left (Exploring nature education). Also According to another credible website
about polar bears, Polar bears might not be endangered but they are one category off of becoming
endangered, there are 20,000 25,000 left worldwide (animalpawnation). As you can see the Giant
panda is classified as endangered. There are only about 1,600 left in the world. 1,600 may be a lot but
surprisingly not to many scientists and researchers. On the other hand polar bears are classified as
threatened one step away from becoming endangered. There are only about 20,000 25,000 left
worldwide.Other than being endangered and threatened they also share many similar characteristics.
The giant panda and polar bear are both similar and different in their physical qualities, habitat, and
diet. As members of the mammal family, the giant panda and the polar bear share many of the same
physical characteristics. On the other hand their appearances set them apart from one another in many
ways. To start with pandas and polar bears are well alike and different in many ways. When being
born pandas are about 15 17 centimeters long. Polar bears on the other hand though are born about 30
35 centimeters long. Pandas over the time grow and are white with big black spots around their body.

Running head: INTERPRETATION OF INFERENCES AND ASSUMPTIONS 2
Critical thinking is a part of everyday life and does not necessarily mean making a decision in a high
pressure or high stakes environment. It can be as simple as understanding connections between one
concept and another in order to anticipate what the outcome may be. Or, it may be detecting faulty
reasoning that is purported in a television commercial. It entails effective ... Show more content on

In order to distinguish between the two, inference and assumption, real life examples can help provide
a better understanding. An assumption that is centered off a previous experience can lead to making an
inference based on that assumption (Elder Paul, 2002). For example, if you drive your car around a
particular blind corner daily and see children in a yard, playing near the road, you could assume that
this corner is dangerous. On a subsequent day, you may see an accident at this same corner and infer
that a child was involved in the accident. Depending on how sound our belief is, the assumption or
inference may or may not be accurate. Running head: INTERPRETATION OF INFERENCES AND
ASSUMPTIONS 3
Assumptions can be learning opportunities, especially when the outcome is different than expected.
Recently, I assumed that an employee who was given an opportunity to participate in a new procedure
had the training he needed to be effective independently. He and three others had been provided with
hands on procedure time in addition to the computer training which supported the procedure. This
young man was approached on numerous occasions as to the quality of his orientation. He repeatedly
explained that he was ready and excited to get started. As it turned out, I witnessed him struggle
through numerous steps in the process, relying on his peer to

The Importance Of Living In Chagrin Falls, Ohio
Chagrin Falls, Ohio is often referred to as a bubble town which accurately embodies its nickname.
Having lived in Chagrin my entire life, I reluctantly agree with the Urban Dictionary definitions of
usually a small town where very few events of interest occur or a sheltered and naive place to live,
where youth can t understand the cruelty of the real world because they re too sheltered by their
protective bubble. Reading our weekly town police blotter sheds light that a cat getting locked in a
closet is big news and that this little town in Cuyahoga County is a bit isolated and ignorant to the
outside world. This little town is all about the Friday Night Lights where our high school football team
is the center focus having made multiple visits to the state championship. These facts transpire as the
reason I try to defy this reputation. Despite the influence that one s surroundings can hold over their
life, I believe that this remains easy only with complacency. I have been one of two in my high school
that have participated in nationwide golf tournaments. Incidentally, the second guy became involved
by my lead. In addition, I have also been involved with the local Chagrin Falls Park Community
Center to ignore the bubble that quarantines many people s expectations of themselves. ... Show more

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig s disease, is a disease of the nerve
cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. Jean Marie Charcot was the
first to recognize ALS as a distinct neurological disease with its own unique pathology. In ALS, nerve
cells degenerate and deteriorate, and are unable to transmit messages to muscles. In around 90% of the
cases of ALS, the cause remains unknown. Studies have concentrated on the responsibility of
glutamate in motor neuron degeneration. Glutamate is one of several neurotransmitters in the brain.
While there is no known cure for ALS, strides in medicine have allowed for the development of a
wide variety of medications to treat the various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The predicament of the patient gradually declines. Once the disease progresses to the stage where
muscles in the chest area stop working, it grows increasing difficult or nearly impossible to breath.
History of ALS
Jean Marie Charcot was the first to recognize ALS as a distinct neurological disease with its own
unique pathology (Kumar, Aslinia, Yale, and Mazza 2011). Studies conducted from 1865 to 1869 by
Charcot and his colleague Joffroy found that lesions in the interior of the lateral column in the spinal
cord gave rise to chronic progressive paralysis and contractures (no atrophy of muscles), while lesions
of the anterior horn of the spinal cord resulted in paralysis devoid of contractures (with atrophy of
muscles). These discoveries reinforced Charcot s hypothesis, at the time, was that the motor
component of the spinal cord contained a two part system, and that the location of the lesion results in
a varying clinical presentation. Charcot did not propose the term amyotrophic lateral sclerosis until
1874 when his lectures were accumulated into a compilation of his research entitled Oeuvres
Completes . In many parts of the world, ALS is still known as Charcot s disease. While numerous
molecular and genetic discoveries have allowed for a greater understanding of this disease, his
innovative descriptions of the associated clinical and

International Awareness And Intercultural Competence
Background Global awareness and intercultural competence are some of the hottest buzz words in
higher education right now. With the U.S. population becoming more diverse, and our economy
increasingly interlinked with economic issues globally, government, business, and society at large are
looking more and more to higher education to create the human capital necessary to continue U.S.
preeminence around the globe (Duncan, 2011). The method of choice in higher education for teaching
these competencies is through travel as a form of exposure to the world . This educational archetype is
generally termed study abroad . The majority of existing research around learning through travel
centers on the undergraduate study abroad experience (Lewin, 2009; VandeBerg, Paige, Lou, 2012).
This is because study abroad is generally an undergraduate phenomena, and is much rarer at the
graduate level. Graduate business education, particularly within MBA programs, is an exception. The
proliferation of travel programs within in MBA programs, with the goal of teaching students the skills
needed to be successful working in the global marketplace, can be directly linked to close relationship
between Business Schools and multinational corporations. The connection between higher education
and the market place is not new, as Rhoades and Slaughter (1994) vividly described in their 1993 1994
review of how higher education in the U.S. has shifted away from the public good and toward tight
cooperation

  • 2. David And Goliath And Casey At Bat Essay In the poem Casey at Bat and story David and Goliath, a comparison and contrast will show several differences and similarities between David and Casey. The first similarity between David and Casey is that both of them are very confident in the task that they have to accomplish. Text from Casey at Bat says, There was pride in Casey s bearing and a smile on Casey s face. And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat, No stranger in the crowd could doubt twas Casey at the bat. David and Goliath says, Today the Lord will help me defeat you. I ll knock you down and cut off your head, and I ll feed the bodies of the other Philistine soldiers to the birds and wild animals. Casey at Bat explains how Casey was very confident ... Secondly, this quote explains how David killed Goliath and succeeded greatly.Secondly, a difference between Casey and David is that Casey had an encouraging crowd at his baseball game that was very confident in him, whereas David had no encouragement from the people around him. Casey at Bat says, Then from 5,000 throats and more there rose a lusty yell; It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell; It knocked upon the mountain and recoiled upon the flat, For Casey, mighty Casey, was advancing to the bat. As the first quote explains how Casey had a huge crowd cheering him on that was very confident in him. In David and Goliath it says, Some soldiers overheard David talking, so they told Saul what David had said. Saul sent for David, and David came. 32 Your Majesty, he said, this Philistine shouldn t turn us into cowards. I ll go out and fight him myself! 33 You don t have a chance against him, Saul replied. You re only a boy, and he s been a soldier all his life. No one had faith in David and no one thought that David would succeed, which is explained in this quote.A final difference between Casey and David is that Casey was independent, but David was not ... • 3. Jealousy In King Lear By William Shakespeare Everyone at one point or another gets angry at others for whatever reason. Some people, when angry, decide to take it out with violence where others tend to hold it within themselves. In the play, King Lear, by William Shakespeare, characters are destroyed throughout the play, showing how destructive the emotions of anger is to others. King Lear, Edmund and Gloucester show symptoms of some form of madness either assumed or genuine through jealousy, overconfidence, and manipulation; Lear s madness is completely genuine and is caused by himself and others, Edmund s madness is fueled by jealousy and manipulation, and Gloucester s madness is mainly caused by his son Edmund. He is planning a very elaborate scheme to get Edgar to disappear from the kingdom for good, in order for him to take the reigns at the helm. Edmund is also greedy for power and fame. The audience pities Edgar because he has done nothing wrong and doesn t suspect Edmund to be so cruel. In the following act, Edmund is foreshadowing the fall of his father, The younger rises when old doth fall (3.3.25). He has gone borderline insane because he is willing to overthrow his own faither. This creates suspense for the audience because he refers himself as the young and referring his father as the old. Edmund s madness is genuine because if it was assumed he would not be able to plan and execute those terrible plans to the people who love him, family. Jealousy and manipulation can override people s conscious and make them do whatever it takes to get what they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Allowing for more continuity than change allowed for stability in China and with this stability China was able to continue on to new heights. To stay united as one the Qing Dynasty adopted the Ming Dynasty political system in order for them to stay strong. Although they adopted the Ming government platform they still made slight changes in the government that would suit their dynasty. The Ming dynasty ran by Emperor Hongwu, who made the government very political active by scholars. Who aided rulers to become emperors. Biography Of Martin Luther King s Black Power Grace Wolfe, J00548214 Professor Taylor CAS 100 142 4 November 2015 Chapter 24 Epilogue pp. 341 348 Many people had imperceptible answers to the questions like, what did it all mean in the end and what were the accomplishments? Stokely Carmichael wrote a book called Black Power and in it he wrote about how black people in that time did not accept segregation. Martin Luther King also made important points in his speeches about segregation and how during this time black people decided to make a change. The movement in the Alabama Black Belt lasted the longest and many people do not acknowledge that fact. Even after all the protests started to fade away from the headlines, black people in Alabama continued to protest for freedom. Many black citizens in Alabama began to realize that there were other white people in Alabama who also wanted to end segregation. In Lowndes County, Alabama, there was a rich man who owned thousands of acres of land, named Harrell Hammonds. Hammonds was a probate judge who raised cattle and grew cotton on his farm. Hammonds was also an aristocratic politician. Many people noticed Hammonds as being against segregation. Hammonds argued in a court of law that everyone should be treated equally no matter the color of their skin. Later in his life, Hammonds also gave his support for black people to be able to get an equal education as white people. There was an unhappy ending to Hammonds support to end segregation. The government is an institution that is based upon authority. There are various ways in which authority can be conferred upon a governmental institution and many opinions on how it should be used. In a government such as Jefferson describes, majoritarian politics is most fitting. Majoritarian politics generally occurs when the government considers issues important to the people. The people have more power because pressure from the majority opinion is exerted on the leader. Meanwhile, elitism occurs when public opinion is largely absent, giving leaders greater freedom to act in self interest. There are several theories of elitism: Marxism, which describes power as being in the hands of business leaders, a view exemplified by the influence held by American capitalists; the power elite theory, in which key leaders in society control and are served by the government, can be seen in the influence held by the media and wealthy members of society; the bureaucratic view, which holds the official as the vessel of power and hand behind administrative action, and may be exemplified by members of Congress, who deliberate amongst themselves on matters that may concern the public; and the pluralist view, which describes various powerful groups in government and politics as cooperating with each other while being aware of the public opinion in order to maintain popularity. This is observed in the cooperation between various branches of government and powerful organizations. Elitism allows for more self interest. Although a self interested government does not necessarily dictate that policies will be unbeneficial for the people, it is on the whole detrimental and less restricted than the ideal Jefferson held for government. All of India celebrates this festival, however most call it by its Sanskrit name, Deepavali. Since India is so large, they follow separate calendars, which causes the North and South to celebrate the religious festival at different times of the year. An example of this is in Silver Blaze , when Holmes asks the inspector for a picture of John Straker but does not include an explanation of why he needs it, this automatically builds suspension upon the reader s minds , as they starts to wonder what Holmes knows that he is yet inform Watson about. Until the crime is solved the reader will be full of anticipation and with the information that had been given to them, they ll try to solve the case themselves. Following a brief summary of my interpretation of sense certainty, this essay will mainly focus on paragraph 91 in which Hegel acknowledges the attributes and deficiencies of sense certainty. Both have nothing to do with the truth of sense certainty; in that certainty, neither I nor the item mean a manifold of mediation ; I does not mean a manifold of diverse activities of representing and thinking, nor does the item mean a manifold of diverse states ; rather, the item is, and it is merely because it is (Pinkard 2010). Hegel further continues his criticism of the objects of sense certainty in these sentences. Since the consciousness can t, according to sense certainty, comprehend and use its mental capacity to conceptualize the object, its is limited to mere being as it is. This being as it is stems from apprehension which allows the subject to apply universals to objects of sense certainty. This application of universals blends one object with others since universals can be applicable to other things as well. Central Auditory Processing Disorder Except for outwardly appearances, speech may be the one of the most defining elements of a person s identity, psychologists generally consider language a prime manifestation of underlying cognitive processes (Solso, MacLin, MacLin, 2008, p. 468). Just by listening over the phone, I can tell whether a family member is feeling positive, in ill health, or worried about events in their lives. Should vocal language be the only measure of underlying cognitive processes? As a small child, it was frustrating to not be able to make the adults in my life understand me. These primers are; very difficult to remove, time consuming and often require costly special tools to remove. The Berdan primer has an anvil with a minimum of two flash holes, that are located inside the primer pocket of the case. Berdan primed cartridges are still common around the globe, and it can perform like the Boxer. Some aluminum and steel cartridges are often Berdan primed with the initials NR because they are not manufactured to be reloaded. This also saves manufactures a little money, making it a single shot cartridge. It s low cost and can be used for hunting and target shooting. Some older Berdan primed cartridges had problems with corrosion, but modern cartridges don t seem to have this problem. • 18. How The Stock Market Affects The Economy In the late October of 1929, the United States Stock Market took an immense plummet. This plummet acted as a catalyst to the beginning of the 10 year long Great Depression. It was known as Black Tuesday, aka the Wall Street Crash of 1929. (Harold) Prior to the crash, the roaring twenties built up the stock market. It was a time of wealth, success, and triumph. It all began with an enormous drop in the market. Panic flooded throughout the entire United States causing millions of people to pull out, in attempt to keep the little money they had left. (Colombo) The Stock Market is a vast and confusing setting. It has influence on many aspects of the economy like pensions, bond markets, and even retirement accounts. However, many aren t educated about how the Stock market works, how it affects the economy, the difference between stocks versus bond and mutual funds, nor the amount of illegal activities taking part within the stock market. There are a few terms new stock investors should learn before actually beginning to put money into the stock market. You hear words like shares , assets , and even earnings when you watch or listen to people on the television. Shares are a percentage of the company, if you buy a share; you own a small percentage of it and its earnings. Earnings are all the money that the company makes. Those are designed to alert you the driver, that there is very little brake pad material left, and that it s time to replace the pads. Field Dependence And Information Processing Models Field Dependence and Information Processing Models Information processing models (IPM), first developed in the 1950s, seek to explain how learners observations and novel experiences are transformed via processes related to memory, cognition, and thinking to allow for new knowledge acquisition (Schraw McCrudden, 2013). In this model, the brain functions in a similar manner as a computer that is receiving inputs, processing the input, and delivering an output (In an article describing IPM, Schraw and McCrudden (2013) detail how the components of IPM work to form new knowledge. By this model, learning begins at the sensory memory level, the temporary register of inputs we sense. Up to 5 7 pieces of discreet data can be acknowledged by the brain at any given time. These data are processed in a very short amount of time, and if deemed stimulating or interesting, the data will be transferred to the working memory, otherwise it will be forgotten or discarded. One reason is most likely because he was Westernized being that he lived for some time in the Mayknoll Seminaries in New Jersey and New York State (Genesis 116). When Reading “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” By When reading Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas, Acquainted with the Night by Robert Frost, and Sestina by Elizabeth Bishops, the authors use unique imagery, symbolism, and metaphors to demonstrate a dark atmosphere during the poems. Each poem deals with dark tones such as depression, sadness, and death. By using imagery, symbolism, and metaphors, the authors are able to intensify the overall mood of the poems. Thomas uses metaphors to show different settings of his poem throughout the days and Frost utilizes metaphors, symbolism and imagery to represent the local setting and distant surroundings. This poem also uses night as a metaphor. Throughout the poem, darkness is represented by the night. It doesn t represent death, but it is more of a metaphor for depression or sadness. The poem tells of a man that is walking alone at night through a city. The narration of the poem not only uses night as a metaphor, it also uses imagery and symbolism to enhance the depth of the poem. In the poem, the man hears a cry far away (Frost 503) and he is said to have outwalked the city light. (Frost 503) This symbolism is used to depict the man as being alone and not around anything. He has walked away from all the lights of the city and is in the darkness of the night. No one else is around and people would have a hard time hearing him from where he is. When the man passed a watchman, he dropped my eyes. (Frost 503) He seemed shy and distant and refused to make any sort of contact with other individuals. Plato argues that the recognition of truth in reality is derived from the recollection of truth in the soul. A necessary part of Plato s argument is that recollection of Truth depends upon the existence of an immortal soul. Locke, on the other hand, rejects Plato s argument by stating that the recognition of truth is not dependent on recollection but is rather self evident. In other words, Locke argues that one does not need to understand truth to know it or admit of the existence of an immortal soul, for truth according to Locke reveals itself by virtue of its being true. This paper will analyze the arguments of each philosopher and show why I believe Plato to have the better argument on the matter of recollection and innate ideas in the soul. Analysis of Plato s Doctrine of Recollection in Meno and Phaedo Plato states that all inquiry and all learning is but recollection (81). Socrates uses Meno s slave to show that knowledge comes from recollection. This is Plato s way of stating that recognition of truth depends on the use of one s intellect. Truth may be understood as the conformity of intellect with reality. By using his intellect, Meno s slave recognizes the truth of the measurement of squares drawn by Socrates. Socrates calls this action recollection. The act of recollecting, or using the intellect, is defined by Socrates as one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Causes Of The Zodiac Killer The first murders widely attributed to the Zodiac Killer were the shootings of high school students Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday on December 20, 1968, on Lake Herman Road, just inside Benicia city limits. Shortly after 11:00 p.m. their bodies were found. Robert Graysmith postulated that another car pulled into the turnout, just prior to 11:00 pm and parked beside the couple. Jensen appeared to have exited the car first, yet when Faraday was halfway out, the killer apparently shot Faraday in the head. Fleeing from the killer, Jensen was gunned down twenty eight feet from the car with five shots through her back. The killer then drove off. Just before midnight on July 4, 1969, Darlene Ferrin and Michael Mageau drove into the Blue Rock Springs Park in Vallejo, four miles from the Lake Herman Road murder site. A second car drove into the lot and parked alongside them but almost immediately drove away. Returning about 10 minutes later, this second car parked behind them. The driver of the second car then exited the vehicle, approaching the passenger side door of Ferrin s car, carrying a flashlight and a 9 mm Luger. The killer directed the flashlight into Mageau s and Ferrin s eyes before shooting at them, firing five times. Both victims were hit, and several bullets had passed through Mageau and into Ferrin. Assimilation In A Raisin In The Sun In A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry shines a spotlight on Beneatha who reinvigorates the belief that freedom is life, and while the Younger family may be free in some ways, society still attempts to confine them in others. Throughout the play Hansberry depicts the restrictions that society has placed on the hopes and dreams of the family, specifically those of Beneatha, Walter, and Mama. Hansberry thus conveys that assimilating into society is negative because by assimilating one is submitting to the limitations society attaches to one s labels. Hansberry communicates that assimilation is negative through her portrayal of assimilation and the beliefs of society as directly responsible for the deference of dreams. Society is responsible for instilling disillusion and defeat within the family to the point that Mama believes that God didn t see fit to give the black man nothing but dreams. The idea that because of their ethnicity, everything they want in life must remain an impossible fantasy. Assimilation has tied Mama to what she has been told is her harsh reality, that she can never own a house and a garden. Mama s assimilation and dream deference do not only affect Mama s life, but the lives of Beneatha and Walter as well because Mama s submission to society s constraints cause her to discourage her children in pursuing their dreams. An assumption that is centered off a previous experience can lead to making an inference based on that assumption (Elder Paul, 2002). Studies conducted from 1865 to 1869 by Charcot and his colleague Joffroy found that lesions in the interior of the lateral column in the spinal cord gave rise to chronic progressive paralysis and contractures (no atrophy of muscles), while lesions of the anterior horn of the spinal cord resulted in paralysis devoid of contractures (with atrophy of muscles). These discoveries reinforced Charcot s hypothesis, at the time, was that the motor component of the spinal cord contained a two part system, and that the location of the lesion results in a varying clinical presentation. With the U.S. population becoming more diverse, and our economy increasingly interlinked with economic issues globally, government, business, and society at large are looking more and more to higher education to create the human capital necessary to continue U.S. preeminence around the globe (Duncan, 2011). The method of choice in higher education for teaching these competencies is through travel as a form of exposure to the world . This educational archetype is generally termed study abroad . The majority of existing research around learning through travel centers on the undergraduate study abroad experience (Lewin, 2009; VandeBerg, Paige, Lou, 2012). This is because study abroad is generally an undergraduate phenomena, and is much rarer at the graduate level. Graduate business education, particularly within MBA programs, is an exception.
