Officer Selection Process
Police officers offer civilians a sense of protection, guidance, and trust. As we make our daily
commutes in every day life, we look at these uniformed individuals as a symbol of safety and take
comfort in the idea that in the case of an unexpected turn of events, officers will be sufficiently
qualified to take initiative and adequately respond under stressful, dangerous, and complicated
circumstances. We, as civilians expect things to automatically unfold in this manner, but how then can
we be sure that these individuals are capable of handling such a delicate task? This module s case
study explores the experience of an applicant named Doug regarding the main components of the
police officer selection process, which include Screening and Evaluation, Written Exams, Polygraph
Examinations, Physical Agility Tests, Medical Examinations, Psychological Evaluations, Background
checks and Oral interviews, some of which may or may not be used at the ... Show more content on

I am interested in a career in policing and I believe that it is vital for everyone to go through this
rigorous process of selection so that only those deemed to be physically, mentally, ethically, and
emotionally fit by standard, are hired. In my opinion this will help to prevent harmful situations for
both civilians and police officers that derive from a lack of qualification. It will help select more
confident, decisive, rational thinkers. Additionally, having multiple examinations and tests
administered will help strengthen the trust between police officers and their respective communities
being that it would give civilians peace of mind knowing that officers had to undergo a very elaborate
process in order to obtain their present

Is America Still Relevant Today
America has the ability to make difference in people lives. As said before, people came to the United
States to seeks better lives and more opportunities. I believe the American Dream also means being
equally treated. Equal does not mean we are all the same. We are all different, which is what makes
American the way it is today. We are all human and deserve to be treated as such with dignity and
respect. Although America has a hard time showing that we are all equal, I still believe it is a part of
the American Dream. The United States have run into many brick walls trying to make it seem like all
of us are equal, but it has not been a complete success. Many problems with race and gender is still
relevant today. For example, the Black Lives

History Of The Cherokee Indians
`The Cherokee Indians were a very modern group of Native Americans; they had successfully blended
into the American way of life. For example, they made their government like the American way,
translated the Bible, and even used American rules for owning property. Life for the Cherokee nation
seemed to be going well, but in 1832 they would have to fight for their land. Gold was discovered in
Georgia, so Georgians wanted to force the Cherokee Indians out, so they would have more gold. The
Cherokee Indians fought in a nonviolent way; they sued. In Worcester v. Georgia (1832), which
followed a similar case from the ear before, Cherokee, Georgia, the Supreme Court ruled that the
Cherokee nation was a sovereign nation and that the state of Georgia

Social Media And Its Impact On Writing And Receiving...
Part A: Email /Text Problems
The current technological age that uses the social media has led various problems in writing and
receiving emails/texts. The biggest problem is not getting any part of a message from the text or
email; understanding of the message is the greatest problem. This can be attributed to the receiving of
incomprehensible and poorly arranged words and messages. The problem of using slang in writing
and receiving texts is a menace. The use of such slang terms like SMH (shaking my head) among
others, makes communication unofficial and only understood by a certain group of people (Heather
Graves, 2012).
Making a right choice of a message tone for a text or email is a problem. Proper punctuation of texts

Examples of components made using this process include gears and bearings (Kaushish, 2008).
The steps involved in powder metallurgy include production of powders, powder mixing, compaction,
sintering and finally secondary operations. Powder production is the first step, and it involves the
application of different methods (such as grinding or atomization) to obtain powders from metals or
non metals. The powder s chemical composition, size and shape are analyzed (Kaushish, 2008).
Powders are usually potential hazards, such as being flammable, and thus they should be handled with
safety precaution.
Mixing of powders usually involves the addition of alloying elements, pressing lubricant, binders, and
other substances. The uniform distribution of the particles is emphasized in order to obtain a processed
part with uniform density. Compaction involves forming the mixed powder into a compact of
desirable shape and size. Whereby, the powder is pressed in a rigid enclosure which comprises of die
and punches. Sintering involves using a protective atmosphere to heat the compact to a temperature
below the melting point of the major constituent. The secondary operations are finally used to obtain a
good finish.
Conclusively, powder metallurgy is a crucial manufacturing process that enables the production of
components which cannot be produced

Questions On Juvenile And Juvenile Justice System
1. I d recommend you begin your paper with a paragraph that states both your theory and your
approach. Share that the juvenile justice system should take into account the evidence that a juvenile s
brain specifically the white matter that controls the brain s executive functions has not completely
formed. You will layout the biological evidence for this and then through the use of a recent case show
the gaps in the current court system as well as make recommendations for how to address youth in the
juvenile system in a more effective manner. 2. Great use of Jacob s case study. I d state directly that
you will explore this topic with a recent case in mind. I wonder if there s another source to Jacob s
case...ie Psychology Today or even better a peer reviewed source. But no worries, if not. Juvenile
brain development studies show conclusively that our brains are not fully developed until we reach the
age of 25. Should we or can we take this into account in the juvenile justice system? Juvenile brain
development studies have conclusively shown that our brains are not fully developed until we reach
the age of 25. Research has shown that the white matter in the brain, which controls insights,
judgment, self awareness and empathy, is one of the last parts to fully mature. This lack of fully
developed executive functions should be taken into account in the juvenile justice system. Jacob Ind,
as any child, deserved the love and protection of his parents.

Reflective Essay On Kids Clinical Rotation
This week I started my GI for Kids clinical rotation. I did mostly shadowing on the first couple of
days. While shadowing, I learned Wendy s roles. She sees about average 8 12 patients a day. Her
typical day begins with reviewing her patients chart to monitor their health status, and then she goes to
see them personally and obtain their progress. Lastly, she consults with doctors (the GI doctor who she
works for and patients doctor) regarding the appropriate care that those patients need and order them. I
recognized that documentation takes up a huge part of her time. I am familiar with the hospital setting
since I have been working as a RN for the past three years in a hospital. But the awareness of the
different roles I am playing is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And their care is from a more holistic approach. For instance, a patient with necrotic pancreatitis has
been hospitalized for the past three weeks. The mother of the patient has stayed at the beside since the
admission. The mother is a appropriated caregiver and really concerns for her child. Despite the
chronic disease course of the necrotic pancreatitis, Wendy discussed with the mother regarding what
kinds of processes need to be taken place before discharge, such as home health. She believes this will
help to alleviate some stress off from the mother. Wendy did not specify when the patient would be
able to go home, but rather explained what need to be accomplished prior to discharge. I think this is a
appropriate action since it gives the mother an idea of what to expect in ahead. So far, the GI disorders
that I have encountered in this clinical rotation are so different than the ones I saw during my primary
care clinical rotations. Those patients are more complex and acutely ill. I was unfamiliar with many of
these disorders (e.g superior mesenteric artery syndrome) and had to look them up. Beside the various
GI disorders, understand and able to utilize different diagnostic tools and labs to help to make GI
diagnosis is another thing that I hope to accomplish during my clinical time with Wendy. I am looking
forward to next week s clinical

Sculptures at Crosby Beach
Whilst visiting Crosby beach in October 2013 there was evidence of the public altering the statues
appearance. Somebody had knitted around the ankle of one, and also placed a hard hat on the head.
The statues being placed at Crosby beach had created a large tourist attraction and we see how the
public introduce their own enjoyment to the art.
With the sculptures being constantly moved to different locations, they were granted permission to be
permanently positioned at Crosby beach in 2005, despite some objections. Certain people believed
that the figures were offensive and pornographic due to them being naked with genitalia on show.
They also believed that they were a safety hazard due to it being difficult to differ between a human
and a sculpture in low lighting. Also, reaching the figures close to the sea was shown as a hazard due
to the sinking mud; a problem which I had encountered myself! The sculptures being made out of Cast
iron is also relevant to them being positioned in Crosby beach. The cast iron links to the Liverpool s
industrial origin as a major port. The figures stand watching as many ships pass each day, as they are
reaching their new destination. The sculptures are possibly standing, waiting to travel to Another
place. This point is strengthened by the fact that some of the sculptures are half buried in the sand,
giving the impression of the statues walking into the sea.

Beethoven Americans Research Paper
There are many influential people in the arts, government, and sports. Given a choice, I would
interview, Ludwig van Beethoven, Barack Obama, and Jordan Spieth. These people are successful and
have had historical influence.
Beethoven was a composer during the 1700 s into the early 1800 s. He wrote many pieces, even as he
slowly became deaf. I would ask, Once a composer dies, he often becomes more famous. How does
that make you feel? Once Beethoven died, people started to discover his pieces and started
reproducing them, which led to more fame. Another would be, Are your works of music dedicated to
anyone? Beethoven never married, and works of art always have inspirations behind them. People also
found a mysterious love letter addressed to Immortal Beloved which they assumed was Beethoven s
lover. I would ask, Do you think that one of today s artists could be regarded as the next ... Show more

One of my questions would be, What/who made you start playing golf? This person may have
influenced Spieth as he has become the top golfer in the world. What are the responsibilities you
have? Being top golfer is a lot of work. Spieth has to maintain his golf game and win every
tournament he enters. The third question would be, Many of your competitors are much older than
you, How does being young affect a golfer? Spieth s skill in golf could come from his youth and the
techniques he is able to use while he is still young. The fourth question is, Are you being mentored or
do you mentor? The best way to learn is from experienced people and then experience it yourself.
Spieth is a young golfer who has good game and how he changed the past and future.
Many people are famous in the arts, government, and sports but I chose these three because of how
they affected history. These people have taught me a lot a through asking these questions I can find

Greasy Lake Literary Analysis
Biographical criticism is used to identify and establish certain aspects of stories from an author s
experience. Most authors have demonstrated this theory by writing from their own personal memories.
From Emily Dickinson to Stephen King, countless authors have either written from their own
background or put him/herself into a story. Some have even re written a terrible memory into the way
they wanted that moment to turn out. John Updike and T.C. Boyle brought this theory to life in their
works A P and Greasy Lake . By reading these stories, one can feel a personal connection to them
because they feel so profoundly relatable. Therefore, in A P and Greasy Lake , one can grasp the
actuality of the stories by putting themselves in the author s shoes and remembering their youth.
A P is an excellent use of biographical criticism when connecting to an author s past. The way Updike
wrote this short story proves to the reader that he can still make a connection to that younger part of
himself; since the main character is about nineteen years old and the author was twenty nine when he
wrote it. While reading the story, one can already connect with the familiarity of it when the main
character mentions the aggravating customer, She s one of these cash register watchers, a witch about
fifty with rouge on her cheekbones and no eyebrows...She d been watching cash registers forty years
and probably never seen a mistake before (Updike 1). For example, say that Updike used to

Bioethics’s Hot Topic of Growth Hormones Essay examples
Bioethics s Hot Topic of Growth Hormones
In the article Does Shortness Need a Cure? Ronald Bailey, the author, indicates Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) approval of growth hormone use offers a treatment plan for those who are short
in stature. Bailey also acknowledges bioethics as a seriously debated topic in the medical field.
Bioethics deals with the studies of moral issues in the fields of medical treatment and research
(Caplan). Bailey touches on the topic of bioethics as it deals with the use of growth hormones,
specifically Human Growth Hormone (HGH) for people who are distinguished by their short stature.

Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money
spent on treatment.
According to bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan, using such drugs to change the height of children implies it
is unacceptable to be short. Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution curve and say
they have a disorder, you re starting down a slippery slope (Bailey). It is dangerous to state people
who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal then more will
believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often do not have
disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are naturally taller
than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the use of drugs will
increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height.
At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. There are many formulas people have
said are accurate in predicting how tall your child will be . . . some of these may have at one time been
based upon some scientific ideas, most are only a reasonable guess at best (Steele 1). If there is no
completely accurate way to predict how tall a child will be, then there is no way for anyone to decide
and limit which children are getting the injections of

The book I chose is, If You Take A Mouse To School written by Laura Numeroff and illustrated by
Felicia Bond. If I were to use this book in a second grade classroom and be questioned about it by the
principle I would say that I am using it to teach the concept of cause and effect. Concept books are
great to use because there are so many benefits that can come out of them. In this book particularly it
would be a great simulant of discussion for the students, they can explore the different ideas within the

I may ask if anyone had ever eaten to much candy or if anyone had tripped over something. Once the
students share their answers I will then ask them what happened once they ate to much candy or once
they tripped over something. Once everyone is done sharing I will introduce the topic of cause and
effect and explain to them using the previous examples what cause and effect is. For example, when
the students ate to much candy they got a tummy ache, the cause of the tummy ache was eating too
much candy and the effect of eating too much candy was a tummy ache, I will do the same thing and
use the example of tripping over something. Once they have a pretty good understanding of the
concept I will read the book to them. Once I am done reading the book the students and I will go back
through it and figure out all of the examples of cause and effect throughout the book. For example, in
the book it reads If you take a mouse to school, he ll ask you for your lunch box. When you give him
your lunchbox, he ll want a sandwich and a snack for later. After reading this the students and I would
discuss that the cause of the mouse wanting the lunch box was because he was going to school and
because he was given a lunch box he wanted to fill it with food for later and that was the effect the
mouse receiving the lunch box. Once the students understand this concept pretty well, they will break
into groups of two and create a short story of cause and effect using any animal they want. Just a
couple sentences of using cause and effect so that the teacher can check for their understanding.
Having them create their own story will help them to use their imagination, writing skills, and help
them to work with a

Marriage s Role In The Thousand And One Nights
Marriage, compared to romance, plays a prominent role in The Thousand and One Nights. Marriage is
organized as a measure of convenience and status rather than of love in most cases. This attitude
aligns with the way women are typically treated: as prizes, not powerful, or even worthy of respect. It
was considered more important to marry for status than for love. The only exceptions to this
inclination come in stories where women are presented as more powerful. The best example is
between Shahrazad and Shahrayar. The Thousand and One Nights offer a unique perspective on the
roles of women in Muslim society. Some of the in framed stories portray women as disobedient wives,
as beautiful concubines and slaves who are always eager to please men,

Chocolate Chip Cookies History

yeah, those. You have come to know them well, or so you think. What s the story behind the chocolate

The answer behind it is a young woman who went by the name of Ruth Wakefield. How did Mrs.
Wakefield make this recipe? Let s start from the beginning. Born on 17, 1903, she never had dreamed
that she would one day make considerably the most famous cookie ever. Ruth went to college at
Framingham University, and graduated in 1924. After that she got a job giving lectures on health,

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Diversity Plan Analysis At present, the diverse composition of
the United States Veteran population is disproportionate to that of the total United States populace
composition. To be sure, in an examination of one aspect of diversity (race and ethnicity), the
contrasting data is compelling. According to the Pew Research Center (PRC), the percentage of
racially diverse population in the United States is 36% and is on an upward trajectory. In fact, by the
year 2065, our U.S. population will no longer have a dominant racial or ethnic group (2015). On the
contrary, according to the National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics (NCVAS), the current
percentage of racially diverse veterans is approximately 20% and will eventually reach 36%, though
not until after 2040 (2010). As such, if proactive measures are not immediately put into action to
address this latency, veteran diversity will not achieve parity as it s significantly lagging behind the
racially diverse levels of the nation (refer to Appendices C and D respectively, for PRC and NCVAS

Merriam Webster defines non sequiturs as an inference that does not follow from the basis premises
(Non sequitur, 2011). The cause and effect of facial expressions are unrelated. Cultures will differ in
nonverbal communication and actions but the facial expressions basically the same.
Gestures
Body gestures are physical types of nonverbal communication. Tapping of a pencil on a desk while
studying, a wave from someone to gain another s attention, or hand signals such as Sign Language or
police directing traffic.
Body Language and Posture How the sender present himself/herself sends nonverbal communication
to a receiver. Handshakes, eye contact, facial expressions, and posture send silent messages to the
other person. Posture is an indicator of approachability. The distinction in posture is rectangular and
triangular. The posture or position of two people will indicate private conversations (rectangle) or an
invitation to join in a conversation (triangle) (Bjorseth, 2007).

Police Brutality And The Police
For the past couple years there has been so many incidents involving some sort of police brutality. The
mainstream media has shown police misconduct, case after case it has become a routine and making
people wonder if our officers of the law really doing their jobs? Unjustified shooting, and fatal
choking s have all contributed to the problem of police brutality in America and also has become very
controversial. The police carry an enormous burden each day, which makes their job really hard.
Police work is very stressful and involves violent, and split second decision. Nevertheless, cases like
the shooting of Samuel DuBose, and Walter Scott and the choking of Eric Garner has raised questions
regarding our police system. In many confrontations the police are put in a position in which they
have to use force to control the situation, but there are different levels of force and most of the time
the situation dictates the level of force that s necessary. In addition, I will explain different cases of
police brutality, the use of excessive force, and the consequences the officers have faced. While many
disagree with the rough treatment by police, others argue that the police are well trained to use force
and that they should be tough on crime and apprehend criminals. Statistics have illustrated this very
well due to modern technology; vital videos of police brutality have brought the real issue to the
surface. The use of excessive force is a criminal act. However, Bill Maher

spotted fever in humans (and other vertebrates). They are obligate, intracellular bacteria that range in
size form 0.2x0.5 µm to 0.3x2.0µm. Rickettsia belong to the phylum alpha protobacteria, which are
capable of growing in low levels of nutrients, and have a long generation time relative to other gram
negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. In humans rickettsiae preferentially reside in the nucleus or
cytoplasm of cells lining small to medium size blood vessels.
Rickettsia enter host cell by inducing phagocytosis, then immediately escape the phagosome to grow

The bite of an infected tick is the primary mode of transmission to humans, or other vertebrate hosts,
though it is also possible, but extremely rare for infection to result from exposure to crushed tick
tissues, fluids, or feces. (http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/rmsf/Natural_Hx.htm)
The Disease
RMSF is the most common fatal human tick borne disease in the United States, with a minimal
average of 351 confirmed human cases occurring annually and undoubtedly many more going
unreported (Niebylski et al.).
There are three major symptoms associated with RMSF which usually appear after an incubation
period of five to ten days: fever, headache, and a rash. The rash is a diffuse macular (featuring
elevated discoloration) rash, is most prominent on wrists and ankles, which will usually erupt three or
four days after the onset of fever. All three of the primary symptoms are not always present in all cases
of RMSF, making it much harder to correctly diagnose the disease. Other symptoms are general
symptoms common with other types of infections such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Despite the name the disease is endemic in the Carolinas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, and is less
common in the Rocky Mountain area. About 95% of reported cases occur between April and
September. (Lyon and Kelsey).
Case fatality rate can be as high as 30% for untreated patients. With quick diagnosis and proper
treatment fatalities are extremely rare. The most

Napoleon III s Impact On France And Germany
Napoleon III and Bismarck both had huge impacts on France and Germany respectively. Both men
had great diplomatic skills and strong personalities which lead to all sorts of reforms within their
nation. Both men are known for their leadership skills and for the Franco Prussian war, and even
though the war technically ended by military means, both of their diplomatic skills had major impacts
on the dynamic and outcome of the war. It is unclear to many how the war ended with a Prussian
victory; and this is an attempt to explain what led to the war, and how those factors resulted into a
Prussian victory.
Napoleon III was born on April 20th 1808 as Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte. His father is
Napoleon s younger brother, making him one of Napoleon s nephews. After the imprisonment of
Napoleon after Waterloo in 1815, he and his family were forced into exile by the French returning
monarchy. He was not born as the heir to the Bonaparte claim to the French throne, but the premature
death of Napoleon s only son and the death of his own older brother made him the apparent heir to
claim. He took the claim very seriously, and even attempted multiple coups to gain power, all of which
failed and sentenced to prison. His chance to power came when the last king of France was forced to

Napoleon III first made agreements with the UK promising UK that France will not attempt to annex
Belgium. This was a lie, and Napoleon sent a secret message to Bismarck indicating to him that
France will not intervene in Prussia s land grabbing , if Prussia did not intervene in France s goal to
annex Belgium and the Western parts of some the South German States. Instead of accepting these
terms, Bismarck showed this to the UK and the different southern German nations. This resulted in
hurting France s relationship with the UK, and increased the Southern German nations that the threat

How Gasoline Is Used For Power The Average Automobile...
Introduction
I will describe in my own terms how gasoline is used to power the average automobile within an
internal combustion engine. I will describe this process from the perspective of thermodynamics. The
reason I feel this an interesting topic is the automobile has become such a steady presence in the daily
life of society over the past century that we often take for granted the amount of science and
engineering that go into them. The thermodynamics involved are a direct daily application of the
topics we covered in this course, it also applies concepts we learn in other courses. It s also an
important discussion, because what makes gasoline the most common fuel, how do the alternatives
stack up? Or should we look at engines that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the piston reaches the low point in this stroke the valves are closed. This is the end of the Intake
stroke
Compression
Next is the compression stage, the crankshaft and connector rod following a circular motion causes the
piston to move upward within the cylinder, the valves are closed and the volume begins to decrease
which compresses the fuel air mixture. Increasing both pressure and temperature of the mixture within
the cylinder.
Combustion (Power) As the piston reaches the top of its cycle and the mixture is properly compressed
the spark plug is fired. This ignites the highly pressured fuel air mixture, this ignition of the fuel
source is a chemical reaction. Simply put it s a contained explosion that even further increases the
pressure within the cylinder, the gas wants to expand with all this energy so it pushes the piston
downward in the cylinder, rotating the crankshaft by its attachment through a connector rod. This is
the stroke that does most of the work which is why it s often referred to as the power stroke
Exhaust
The piston is now at the bottom of the cylinder, which is filled with exhaust gases left over from the
chemical reaction in the combustion cycle, the rotating crankshaft now pushes upward on the piston,
as the piston moves upwards exhaust valves open, allowing the pistons movement to push the gas out
of the cylinder so that the engine can start the 4 stroke cycle

What is Feminism?
Before jumping headfirst right away into What is Feminism , the topic of terminology will come first
due to the importance terminologies can play when conveying a message. Feminism isn t the only
term used to describe this yen for equality that will be spoken of; in fact, there are many reprehensible,
repugnant, distasteful terms being substituted, fortunately, there are also still many guarding ones.
Those considered reprehensible: misandry movement and feminazi movement. Those considered
guarding: womanism, women s liberation, and sisterhood movement. Of course, the list goes on,

The Actions Of Rosa Parks And The Civil Rights Movement
December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks, a forty year old seamstress, got arrested for
refusing to vacate her seat and move to the rear end of the bus for a white passenger. Rosa Parks help
start the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. This incident organized a bus boycott that began
on behave of the believe of Rosa Parks violating the segregation laws. According toTrueman, C N.
Montgomery Bus Boycott. History Learning Site, 27 Mar. 2015 The boycott lasted more than a year.
The U.S Supreme Court ruled that the segregation was unconstitutional. Rosa Parks was nationally
recognized as a symbol of dignity and strength in the struggle to end entrenched racial segregation
within the United States. This sparked the American Civil Rights Movement of the 20th century, and
to honor her, she was voted by Time magazine as one of the top 100 most influential people of the
20th century (1998). They also built a museum and a library in honor of Rosa Parks, in Montgomery,
Alabama. I believe this was a very important event in the history of African Americans because for
once they were given the chance to retaliate from the outrageous laws against them.As the news of the
Montgomery boycott began to rapidly spread African American leaders throughout the city began

Stereotypes In Professional Sports
Ask any sports fan what is your favorite day and they would most likely respond that it s game day.
Sports fans show team spirit for their sports teams by wearing their colors, singing chants about them
or most commonly shouting their team names to pick at fans of other teams and rivals. If your favorite
sports team s name is influenced by Native Americans then you may not want to shout that to anyone.
The teams that are named after Native Americans are under fire, especially if you are a Washington
Redskins fan. The Redskins are a team that is getting fire from the public for having a derogatory
nickname representing Native Americans. Some people argue that it is offensive for the team from our
nation s capital to have the name Redskins because it s disrespectful to a race of people. There are
other sports teams that have a Native American name but they are getting less attention, but it is not
right to change just one name, you have to change the names of the other teams to eliminate the
problem entirely.

Specifically, these stereotypes affect how Native youth view the world and their place in society, while
also affecting how society views Native people (NACI 2013). Team logos and the chants and the way
Native Americans team fans cheer for their team is in a barbaric way. For example the Atlanta Braves
fans do the Tomahawk Chop It is a stereotype because the fans think that s how Indians behaved.
When you go to a sports game where fans are doing something that is a stereotype for a certain race or
group of people, don t join in but instead think about what it actually means. Stereotypes have a big

Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie Essay
Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie
In horror films, there is always one scene that opens up the perceived realm of normality to that of fear
and confusion. Directors and authors alike use these scenes to show the change in the pace of the film.
In both the movie Psycho (1960) and Carrie (1976), shower scenes are used to mark this epic turning
point with sexuality, blood and voyeurism; the most important ingredients to horror.
The idea of sneaking around and peering into forbidden places gives just about everyone a thrill.
Voyeurism is used strongly in both Psycho and Carrie due to its ability to entice thrill in the viewer. In
Carrie, we start the scene by looking into a girls high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are then given an extreme close up of Norman s eye, staring wide into the room; the view we have
gives us the thrill of actually being there, watching Marion undress. This method of filming, giving the
audience the sight of the forbidden, adds thrill to the important scenes. Thrill only encourages us to
watch the movie more intently, on the edge of our seats.
Sexuality also adds a great deal of tension to the two scenes. We watch as Marion drops her robe to
the floor and steps gingerly into the shower. Once in the shower, we are given a point of view shot of
the showerhead, a huge showerhead covering her entire body with clean, warm water, cleansing her of
her sins in an almost baptismal way. We are allowed only collarbone up shots of her in the shower,
only hints to her nakedness. We can only imagine what she looks like, giving the audience the same
thoughts that raced through Norman s mind as he looked in on her through the peephole. Carrie is also
highly sexualized, more so given the fact that more nudity was allowed with the changing times. As
we gaze at the different close up camera shots of her body, we watch as she reaches for the soap. The
audience watches as she rubs soap all over her body in slow motion, her face complacent in both
peace and pleasure. Carrie then begins to rub her breasts and her inner thigh in a very

Saturn Research Project
Our lab assignment this week was to research the Cassini/Huygens mission currently being conducted
by NASA and the European Space Agency. After learning about the mission, we need to list some of
the information it has provided us. As well as discuss what we have learned about Saturn, its rings and
the moon system. Choose at least one picture and explain it. Although, Saturn has always been my
favorite planet, I didn t know much about this mission. The lab proved fun and interesting to learn
about all the many discoveries of Saturn.
NASA launched the Cassini Huygens mission on October 15, 1997. Cassini was sent to explore the
system of the planet Saturn. With help from Venus, Earth and Jupiter, Cassini made a series of gravity

They used radar/microwave radiometer aboard NASA s Cassini spacecraft, which revealed a turbulent
atmosphere that has many similarities with Jupiter than previously realized. The new observations
reveal a calm and narrow equatorial belt surrounded by stormy bands just like on Jupiter. Although
regions at higher latitudes did show a different character that is unique to Saturn. Recently generated
global microwave maps of Saturn exposed detail of a mostly stable atmospheric environment. There
were some unpredicted diversity, including arid, desert like patches in Saturn s atmosphere.

NAFTA was created to making trading easier and less expensive for the actors involved to export and
import with one another. When it was first introduced, there were many negotiations and ramifications
that took place. The premise for the negotiations and agreements was to make North America the most
productive and richest market in the world and help in continuing economic growth within the
countries. This however, has not been achieved and while it has contributed to cheaper goods for
consumers there is still plenty to be done to create an agreement that will benefit all actors involved.
As negotiations took place the outline of NAFTA began with reducing the tax on exports from the
Mexico to the US by half while the US imports to Mexico tariffs were reduced to one third.
Eventually within years of implementing the trade agreement most US Mexico tariffs would be
eliminated making it easier for trade to happen among the countries. There were many provision that
were negotiated by all three countries to do their part in becoming better partners within one another.
In the actual text of the agreement we see that along with making trade easier they are advocating to
promote conditions of fair competition in the free trade area which would allow smaller business to
gain consumers into their good and allow

Would you make other people have their dignity restored? Do you have dignity in you?
Lies are one of the major things in which affects this world of wonders, the young and old do it even
you do it yourself. Everyone tells lies every now and then, but if people believe in every lie that is said
to them then they would forward those lies onto other people. When Mr Mendez sees the (freak) side

showman said about Will is horrifying and is a lie. Will believed everything that the showman said;
the showman said God himself has turned his back on him and this next thing has been cursed since

and the victor; they both get a bad influence on each other. How often do you tell lies? How often do
you tell the truth?
When you think that human dignity is already in this world but when you think about all of the bad
things which are happening you realise that people aren t being treated the way that they should be;
people lie (about how their thinking), they think that everything is impossible because of the lies, and
the people who are treated the way they should are hoping to make others happier and a difference to

The history of the rocket dates way back to 400 B.C. One of the first rockets to successfully break the
principles essential to rocket flight was a wooden bird. Escaping steam propelled the birdwas

scientific law until the 17th century. In 1989 Russian teacher Konstantin Tsiokovsky puts forward the

Who Is To Blame For Achilles
Summary: The poet has the Muse tell, through him, the story of Achilles wrath towards King
Agamemnon despite Achilles being responsible for many Greek warriors dying. Apollo has been
killing Greeks through plagues for several days because Agamemnon has the daughter or Apollo s
priest kidnapped. Unaware of why Apollo is displeased with the Greek forces, they find the seer
Calchas and discover Agamemnon s wrongdoing who eventually agrees to appease Apollo but
demands Achilles surrender Agamemnon Briseis. Achilles, with the consul of Athena, complies and
also leaves the Greek armies. Achilles mother Thetis complains to Zeus who in turn decides to honor
Achilles, displeasing his wife Hera.
Commentary: Now many people would automatically blame Agamemnon for the plagues Apollo
brought down, which is just, but they will forget that Apollo already was on the side of the Trojans so

last few years; there are advantages and disadvantages of different kinds of lighting.
Lighting has been around since time itself existed; the first kind of lighting was fire. Fire was used to

The candle and oil based lamps still had many downfalls. One problem was that the application still
used fire as the source of light. The fire would omit carbon monoxide and always posed a threat if the
fire was not watched closely. The oil based lamps could fall over and would create a large fire by
igniting all the oil at once, burning everything flammable around the lamp. (Hayward 23 25)
The next form of lighting was the incandescent lighting, more commonly known as a light bulb, which
depended on electricity.
Thomas Alva Edison devoted all his adult life to science. Once Thomas Edison had enough money to
be comfortable, he opened a laboratory in New Jersey. He then hired a team of scientists and gave
them everything they needed to work; their job was to dream up new inventions amp;#8230;. October
21, 1929 was the fiftieth anniversary of Edison amp;#8217;s invention of the electric light. (Louis 46

The electric light was a huge scientific discovery. The electric light offered a safer, non fire based
source of light. The lighting was dependent on no fuel (other then electricity) and was widely
available for purchase or replacement. The light was also brighter and was more efficient than the
previous forms of lighting. Currently, we still use incandescent lights, but our bulbs are far more

The Aztec Human Sacrifices Essay
The Aztec civilization was a very complex society that was feared and known well for their various
gory sacrifices done to please their many gods in their polytheistic religion. The much feared
civilization began by the exile of one of the two Toltec leaders, which lead to the decline of the Toltec
state that was later replaced by Mexica, or the Aztecs. According to the Aztecs, the land chosen to
build their main city was chosen by the portrayal of an eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its
mouth. Through military might, the Aztecs managed to become the most powerful civilization in the
mid fourteenth century. They maintained their power through military might and the fear they caused

The selfless act the gods committed led to one of the major reasons for human sacrifices which was
that since the gods gave up their own life for the creation of the new world, that the Aztecs had to
somehow respect and honor their action. They did this by creating an eighteen month calendar, which
dedicated each month to a certain god. The Aztecs used scared and solar calendars to tell time and
when all the possible combinations had been used, usually every fifty two years, the Aztecs would go
through a twelve day period before the cycle started again (Benson 506).
There were many different methods the Aztecs used to sacrifice their victims but most sacrifices
centered on the method of heart extraction. The victims were, thrust onto the stone, where a temple
priest cut through their chest wall with a ritual flint knife, and the heart was, [offered] to the sun for
vitality and nourishment, ( Aztec Human Sacrifices ). There was also the act of burning the victim
alive in the sacrificial fire but before they reached death they were taken out and their heart would be
taken out (Callery 33). Victims were not the only ones that were sacrificed; priests also conducted a
method of sacrifice called bloodletting. The priest would begin by punctuating his tongue or any other
body part and then proceeding to letting blood flow out ( Aztec Human Sacrifices ). A torture method

Difference Between Renewable And Non Renewable Energy
Renewable vs non renewable energy
Energy comes in the form of renewable or non renewable energy. Renewable energy resources include
wind, solar, water, biomass and geothermal. These resources are some of which will not run out
because they are natural resources of the earth. Solar energy comes from the sun, wind energy from
the wind geothermal from deep within the earth and so on. Non renewable resources are fossil fuels
such as coal, oil and natural gases. These cannot be replaced so eventually we will run out and have to
rely on renewable energy. Non renewable energy makes up 86 percent of Australia s energy with the
other 14 percent being renewable energy. 73 percent of Australia s energy is using coal while, 13
percent is natural gases, 7 percent is hydropower, 4 percent is wind, 2 percent is rooftop solar and 1
percent is biomass.
There are a few major advantages with non renewable energy. There are plenty of fossil fuels, such as
coal, oil and gas in Australia so this means they are a relatively cheap fuel and readily available.
Australia has enough fossil fuel resources to last for years. Also very large amounts of electricity can
be generated from fossil fuels. Non renewable energy is cost effective and easier to product and use.
According to National Geographic, there are reservoirs of non renewable energy sources throughout
the world. However, there are some disadvantages to non renewable energy. Fossil fuels are non
renewable and will eventually run out because

As of the moment there are thousands of college students roaming around the streets, due to not
having the necessary resources they need. Now days, it is common for a college student to be left
homeless, be evicted, thrown out their homes, or found living in a abandoned buildings which isn t
suitable as a living environment. These students don t have the available funds to be able to pay for
somewhere to live in or know when their next meal will be. Every college student in order to be
successful needs a safe environment that they can call home and get there regular nutrients.
It is often said, that for a student to actually be able to excel in their studies. They must have a proper
nutritional diet, a place to rest and work on their studies. Yet, there is currently 14% of all college
students living among the United States without a home. It is most commonly due to rent being so
expensive that students cannot simply afford. Which later leads to some of these students who are
facing financial trouble to become homeless. Which not only leaves the student without a home, but
vulnerable to many other factors. For example, infection diseases, unsafe conditions, to even bad
weather which can all affect the health of a student. In today s society when people think about a
homeless person they think they ask for money for the most common saying homeless being drug

Norovirus Research Papers
Section I: Introduction to Norovirus
The prototype of norovirus was identified in 1968 by electron microscopy as a cause of Gastroenteritis
in Norwalk, Ohio. Human noroviruses are a major cause of Epidemic Gastroenteritis, and Epidemic
Gastroenteritis is a major cause of foodborne illness. Outbreaks occur throughout the year, but it is
most common in the winter. Causes 19 21 million cases of acute gastroenteritis, and contributes to
56,000 71,000 hospitalizations and 570 800 deaths, mostly among young children and older adults.
Responsible for 58% of domestically acquired foodborne illnesses, and about 50% of foodborne
disease outbreaks due to known agents.

While abnormalities are apparent in intestinal epithelial cells of norovirus infected volunteers, electron
microscopy analysis reveals that these cells remain intact [69,70]. Crypt cell hyperplasia has also been
reported following norovirus infection [71,73]. Only proximal intestinal biopsies from infected
individuals were obtained in early volunteer studies so it remains to be determined whether the distal
intestine is also affected by norovirus infection. In addition to enterocyte changes, norovirus infection
results in a mild inflammatory infiltration into the lamina propria that has been observed in humans
infected with the Norwalk [69,71] and Hawaii viruses [70,72], gnotobiotic calves infected with the
human GII.4 norovirus HS66 [74], and mice infected with murine norovirus 1 (MNV 1) [75]. A recent
study also reports an increased number of intraepithelial cytotoxic T cells in the duodenum of
norovirus infected patients 0 6 days after symptom onset

Maldonato faced was when she moved from her small town where people had neither cars nor
electricity to the big and buzzing city. Second, was when Ms. Maldonato took English courses,
became a U.S citizen, and she was living happy in Philadelphia, but something was still missing.
Third, Ms. Maldonato meeting with an advisor who encouraged her to pursue a career as a paralegal

could she couldn t fully interpret them. She could master unfamiliar words, but she had doubts on the
meaning of them. Finally, when she read her first novel and the story resembled the same pain she had
experienced, she said She knew no English, had no friends. There was different weather, different
food. She had to face another kind of world she was not prepared to live

Nigger In The English Language
In the English language, nigger is an ethnic slur usually directed at black people. The word originated
as a neutral term referring to people with black skin, as a variation of the Spanish/Portuguese noun
negro, a descendant of the Latin adjective niger . It was often used disparagingly, and by the mid 20th
century, particularly in the United States, its usage became unambiguously pejorative, a racist insult.
Accordingly, it began to disappear from popular culture, and its continued inclusion in classic works
of literature has sparked controversy.
In the contemporary United States, using the word is taboo, and it is often replaced with the
euphemism the N word . Nigga , is sometimes used among African Americans as a neutral or term of
endearment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
W. Fowler states that applying the word nigger to others than full or partial negroes is felt as an insult
by the person described, betrays in the speaker, if not deliberate insolence, at least a very arrogant
inhumanity ; but the second edition states: N. has been described as the term that carries with it all the
obloquy and contempt and rejection which whites have inflicted on blacks. .
Victorian writer Rudyard Kipling used it in How the Leopard Got His Spots and A Counting Out Song
to illustrate the usage of the day. Likewise, P. G. Wodehouse used the phrase Nigger minstrels in
Thank You, Jeeves, the first Jeeves Bertie novel, in admiration of their artistry and musical tradition.

As recently as the 1950s, it may have been acceptable British usage to say niggers when referring to
black people, notable in mainstream usages such as Nigger Boy brand candy cigarettes, and the color
nigger brown or simply nigger ; however, by the 1970s the term was generally regarded as racist,
offensive and potentially illegal along with nig nog , and golliwog . Agatha Christie s book Ten Little
Niggers was first published in London in 1939 and continued to appear under that title until the early
1980s, when it became And Then There Were None.

Data Mining Information About Data
Abstract Data Mining extracts useful information about data. In other words, Data Mining extracts the
knowledge or interesting information from large set of structured data that are from different sources.
Data mining applications are used in a range of areas such as it is used for financial data analysis,
retail and telecommunication industries, banking, health care and medicine. In health care, the data
mining is mainly used for disease prediction. In data mining, there are several techniques have been
developed and used for predicting the diseases that includes data preprocessing, classification,
clustering, association rules and sequential patterns. This paper analyses the performance of two
classification techniques such as Bayesian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The medical data processing has the high potential in medical domain for extracting the hidden
patterns within the dataset [15]. These patterns are used for clinical diagnosis and prognosis. The
medical data are generally distributed, heterogeneous and voluminous in nature. An important
problem in medical analysis is to achieve the correct diagnosis of certain important information. This
paper describes classification algorithms and it is used to analyze the performance of these algorithms.
The accuracy measures are True Positive (TP) rate, F Measure, Receiver Operating Characteristics
(ROC) area and Kappa Statistics. The error measures are Mean Absolute Error (M.A.E), Root Mean
Squared Error (R.M.S.E), Relative Absolute Error (R.A.E) and Relative Root Squared Error (R.R.S.E)
[5]. Section 2 explains the literature review; Section 3 describes the classification algorithms.
Experimental results are analyzed in section 4 and section 5 illustrates the conclusion of this paper.
II. LITERATURE REVIEW Dr. S.Vijayarani et al., [11] determined the performance of various
classification techniques in data mining for predicting the heart disease from the heart disease dataset.
The classification algorithms is used and tested in this work. The performance factors evaluate the
efficiency of algorithms, clustering accuracy and error rate. The result illustrates LOGISTICS

How Did The Second Great Awakening Influence On American...
During the time of the second great awakening, the United States underwent a extensive flowering of
religious sects and unprecedented expansion of church memberships. Many preachers had emphasized
sin and damnation, while other preachers emphasized God s love and devotion to save souls from hell.
Just as the First Great Awakening had a religious movement in America, the Second Great Awakening
followed in the same footsteps. The religious excitement that was the Second Great Awakening
created a positive impact in the United States, emphasizing the democratization of American
Protestantism as well as removing barriers of race, class, gender, and age. The Second Great

The Issues Of Human Resource Personnel Essay
It may seem obvious that businesses, no matter the size, do not operate in a vacuum. This can mean
that when it comes to suppliers, customers, employees, or even general perception of the company to
the public a business is subject to laws that dictate what it can and cannot do in the course of doing
business. Although many people are aware that some laws exist in regards to Civil Rights, Age
Discrimination, and Equal Pay they may not know the specifics of the law or the consequences of non
compliance. Just like a company needs experts like accountants to manage the money or Quality
Assurance departments to ensure a product is produced; this lack of specific knowledge is why it is
important for companies to have Human Resource personnel. Human Resources is comprised of
experts that can design policies, practices, and even help shape the corporate culture to promise
compliance with employment law.
Regulations
Similar to laws that individuals must comply with, businesses can face varying degrees of
consequences for their failure to comply with applicable laws. Many separate laws have been passed
that effectively make it illegal for an employer to discriminate based on, amongst other things, race,
age, and sex.
The Civil Rights Act of 1991
Culminating in the late 1980s a series of Supreme Court decisions had led to an eroding of
effectiveness to past Civil Rights Acts that had been previously passed. Two landmark cases in 1989,

Essay about Disability Rights
Disability Rights Movement
In 1817, the American School for Deaf was founded in Hartford Connecticut. This was the first school
for disabled children in the Western Hemisphere. Although this was not the beginning of the Disability
Rights Movement, it was a start to society, making it possible for people to realize that there were
those with disabilities out there in the world and something had to be done. The Disability Rights
Movement fought for equal access, opportunity, consideration, and basic human respect along with
dignity for those born blind, deaf, or anyone with other forms of physical or mental disability. The
purpose of social movements is to provide social change regarding a specific issue in which a

People with disabilities were also forced to enter institutions and asylums. Society hid people with
disabilities from a mean, fearful, and biased world. This continued until the Civil War and World War I
when our veterans returned in a disabled state expecting the US government to provide some sort of
help or rehabilitation in exchange for their service in the nation. Although President Roosevelt was the
first president with a disability to take office was a great advocate for the rehabilitation of people with
disabilities, the nation was still operated under the assumption that being disabled was and abnormal
condition and needed to be medically cured. In the 1940 s and 1950 s, World War II veterans started
placing pressure on the government for rehabilitation for their disabilities. The veterans made it more
visible to a country filled with thankful citizens who were concerned about the well being of the men
who sacrificed their lives for their country. By the 1960 s, the civil rights movement began to take
place and disabled citizens saw this as an opportunity to join forces along with the minority groups to
demand equal treatment, equal access, and equal opportunity for people with disabilities. The
Disability Rights Movement just like the others faced negative attitudes and stereotypes. In the 1970 s,
disability rights activists lobbied congress and marched on Washington to include civil rights language
for people with disabilities into the 1972 Rehabilitation

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cryopreservation Of...
2.3.5: Advantages and disadvantages of cryopreservation of ovarian tissue:
An alternative strategy for storing the female germ cells is cryopreservation of ovarian tissue. This
method allows the storage of a large number of oocytes (within primordial follicles). Unlike fully
grown oocytes, oocytes in primordial follicles tolerate cryopreservation very well. Several
characteristics make them less vulnerable to cryodamage. The most important of these features are:
(a) the small size of the oocyte and its supporting cells.
(b) low metabolic rate of the oocyte.
(c) the absence of zona pellucida (ZP) and granules devices cortices.
(d) the small amount of intracytoplasmic lipids sensitive to cold.

During freezing, because the salts out of the portion of the frozen water, the concentration of
electrolytes and other salts can be increased to very high levels, so that it can be toxic for proteins
intracellular. Thus preventing the formation of ice crystals and toxic effects of the solution to the
freeze period are among the fundamental objectives of successful cryopreservation (John Jain et al.,
2006).
During thawing, the cells are placed in the wash solution, so that cryoprotectants can be washed and
removed. It can lead to conditions opposite to what was at the time of the addition of this material.
The cells are swollen due to the water inlet, and slowly shrunken after removal of cryoprotectant.
When cryoprotectants and the flow of water reaches equilibrium, cell volume reaches its maximum
size (Karlsson et al., 2000).
When the cast is quick, sudden drop in extracellular osmotic pressure can lead to a rapid transfer of
free water in the cell, and then can lead to swelling and damage to cells; the phenomenon which is
called osmotic shock. When thawin is slow, there is the risk of free water thawed and re
crystallization, leading to further damage. Chemical additives Therefore, all freezing methods are
used, which are known as cryoprotectants, to prevent cellular damage (Jain John et al.,

Conflicting Narratives Of The Israeli Palestinian Conflict
Conflicting narratives in the Israeli Palestinian conflict
Any reference to conflict turns history into a reservoir of blame. In the presence of conflict, narratives
differ and multiply to delegitimize the opponent and to justify one s own action. Narratives shape
social knowledge. The Israeli Palestinian conflict, both Jews and Muslims, view the importance of
holding the territories through religious, ideological, and security lenses, based on belief that Palestine
was given by divine providence and that the land belongs to either the Israelis or Palestinian s
ancestral home. Understanding these perspectives is required for understanding Palestinians and
especially Israel s strategy and role in entering the Oslo peace process. Despite ... Show more content

To show examples how conflicting narratives affected the Oslo peace process, conflicting narratives
stemming from collective memories will be applied to issues regarding security, history, and social
identity.
Security narrative
A narrative based on collective memory is difficult to deconstruct and functions as a barrier to
negotiations. Given that narratives play an important role in determining the flow of the negotiations
and that every new generation on both sides is raised with this narrative of insecurity in mind, the gap
of conflict is widened through a hardening of attitudes amplified by the delay of resolving the
stalemate. Connecting the gap to security arguments, the gap is further widened when collective
memory functions as the key in altering the status quo especially in asymmetrical conflict where the
weaker group fears the total domination of the other and contests the imbalance by resorting to
violence. A clash in security narratives is seen: Palestinians justify their violent actions by trying to
balance out with Israel claiming that they feel powerless and fear the loss of dignity, while Israelis
justify their actions citing issues of threat and security. As seen in the eruption of the second intifada,
Palestinian riots occurred after events that affected their sense of security. First, Ariel Sharon s visit to
the Temple Mount reminded the Palestinians of their claim over East Jerusalem and saw Sharon s visit

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Single Parenting
Everyone grows up differently. But children who grow up with only a single parent are often seen as
children who are at a disadvantage. Some of these disadvantages can include the childs education and
emotions. However, single parenting can include advantages which can affect their responsibility and
how they react to conflict.
According to Single Parent; [s]ome tests and observations have concluded and found that single
parenting makes children more aggressive and rebellious. A child may become more aggressive and
rebellious because a single parent may frequently be gone for long periods of time. Because of this
and the singular parent being the only disciplinarian, it is hard to maintain a child s discipline. Another

According to Mulhere, [f]amily income accounts for about half of the educational disadvantage faced
by students from single parent families. This may be because single parents may not make enough
income to put their child through college. Another instance that Mulheres statement applies to is that
the child through their teens may end up getting a job while in school to try and help their parent
financially. The reason this can be a disadvantage is because the child may work more than part time
and may not have enough time to study for school. Although, there are exceptions to this. An
exception to this is Ben Carson. Ben Carson was raised by his single mother, whom worked three jobs,
had been raised in poverty along with a single parent and he had gone to college and became a
neurosurgeon. Even though Carson was raised by a single parent he got through school, became the
nation s youngest chief of pediatric neurosurgery when he was 33 years old, and was a presidential
candidate. Single parent families are becoming increasingly common. Singleparent had said that
single parenting is becoming a rapidly rising trend in society [...] studies in the US alone indicate there
are four single parents to every ten parents [...]. In early 1965 a guy named Daniel Patrick Moynihan
(1927 2003) had completed a report that was eventually published as The Negro Family or more

  • 2. Officer Selection Process Police officers offer civilians a sense of protection, guidance, and trust. As we make our daily commutes in every day life, we look at these uniformed individuals as a symbol of safety and take comfort in the idea that in the case of an unexpected turn of events, officers will be sufficiently qualified to take initiative and adequately respond under stressful, dangerous, and complicated circumstances. We, as civilians expect things to automatically unfold in this manner, but how then can we be sure that these individuals are capable of handling such a delicate task? This module s case study explores the experience of an applicant named Doug regarding the main components of the police officer selection process, which include Screening and Evaluation, Written Exams, Polygraph Examinations, Physical Agility Tests, Medical Examinations, Psychological Evaluations, Background checks and Oral interviews, some of which may or may not be used at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am interested in a career in policing and I believe that it is vital for everyone to go through this rigorous process of selection so that only those deemed to be physically, mentally, ethically, and emotionally fit by standard, are hired. In my opinion this will help to prevent harmful situations for both civilians and police officers that derive from a lack of qualification. It will help select more confident, decisive, rational thinkers. Additionally, having multiple examinations and tests administered will help strengthen the trust between police officers and their respective communities being that it would give civilians peace of mind knowing that officers had to undergo a very elaborate process in order to obtain their present ... • 3. Is America Still Relevant Today America has the ability to make difference in people lives. As said before, people came to the United States to seeks better lives and more opportunities. I believe the American Dream also means being equally treated. Equal does not mean we are all the same. We are all different, which is what makes American the way it is today. We are all human and deserve to be treated as such with dignity and respect. Although America has a hard time showing that we are all equal, I still believe it is a part of the American Dream. The United States have run into many brick walls trying to make it seem like all of us are equal, but it has not been a complete success. Many problems with race and gender is still relevant today. For example, the Black Lives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. History Of The Cherokee Indians `The Cherokee Indians were a very modern group of Native Americans; they had successfully blended into the American way of life. For example, they made their government like the American way, translated the Bible, and even used American rules for owning property. Life for the Cherokee nation seemed to be going well, but in 1832 they would have to fight for their land. Gold was discovered in Georgia, so Georgians wanted to force the Cherokee Indians out, so they would have more gold. The Cherokee Indians fought in a nonviolent way; they sued. In Worcester v. Georgia (1832), which followed a similar case from the ear before, Cherokee, Georgia, the Supreme Court ruled that the Cherokee nation was a sovereign nation and that the state of Georgia ... • 5. Social Media And Its Impact On Writing And Receiving... Part A: Email /Text Problems The current technological age that uses the social media has led various problems in writing and receiving emails/texts. The biggest problem is not getting any part of a message from the text or email; understanding of the message is the greatest problem. This can be attributed to the receiving of incomprehensible and poorly arranged words and messages. The problem of using slang in writing and receiving texts is a menace. The use of such slang terms like SMH (shaking my head) among others, makes communication unofficial and only understood by a certain group of people (Heather Graves, 2012). Making a right choice of a message tone for a text or email is a problem. Proper punctuation of texts and emails is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examples of components made using this process include gears and bearings (Kaushish, 2008). The steps involved in powder metallurgy include production of powders, powder mixing, compaction, sintering and finally secondary operations. Powder production is the first step, and it involves the application of different methods (such as grinding or atomization) to obtain powders from metals or non metals. The powder s chemical composition, size and shape are analyzed (Kaushish, 2008). Powders are usually potential hazards, such as being flammable, and thus they should be handled with safety precaution. Mixing of powders usually involves the addition of alloying elements, pressing lubricant, binders, and other substances. The uniform distribution of the particles is emphasized in order to obtain a processed part with uniform density. Compaction involves forming the mixed powder into a compact of desirable shape and size. Whereby, the powder is pressed in a rigid enclosure which comprises of die and punches. Sintering involves using a protective atmosphere to heat the compact to a temperature below the melting point of the major constituent. The secondary operations are finally used to obtain a good finish. Conclusively, powder metallurgy is a crucial manufacturing process that enables the production of components which cannot be produced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Questions On Juvenile And Juvenile Justice System 1. I d recommend you begin your paper with a paragraph that states both your theory and your approach. Share that the juvenile justice system should take into account the evidence that a juvenile s brain specifically the white matter that controls the brain s executive functions has not completely formed. You will layout the biological evidence for this and then through the use of a recent case show the gaps in the current court system as well as make recommendations for how to address youth in the juvenile system in a more effective manner. 2. Great use of Jacob s case study. I d state directly that you will explore this topic with a recent case in mind. I wonder if there s another source to Jacob s case...ie Psychology Today or even better a peer reviewed source. But no worries, if not. Juvenile brain development studies show conclusively that our brains are not fully developed until we reach the age of 25. Should we or can we take this into account in the juvenile justice system? Juvenile brain development studies have conclusively shown that our brains are not fully developed until we reach the age of 25. Research has shown that the white matter in the brain, which controls insights, judgment, self awareness and empathy, is one of the last parts to fully mature. This lack of fully developed executive functions should be taken into account in the juvenile justice system. Jacob Ind, as any child, deserved the love and protection of his parents. ... • 7. Reflective Essay On Kids Clinical Rotation This week I started my GI for Kids clinical rotation. I did mostly shadowing on the first couple of days. While shadowing, I learned Wendy s roles. She sees about average 8 12 patients a day. Her typical day begins with reviewing her patients chart to monitor their health status, and then she goes to see them personally and obtain their progress. Lastly, she consults with doctors (the GI doctor who she works for and patients doctor) regarding the appropriate care that those patients need and order them. I recognized that documentation takes up a huge part of her time. I am familiar with the hospital setting since I have been working as a RN for the past three years in a hospital. But the awareness of the different roles I am playing is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And their care is from a more holistic approach. For instance, a patient with necrotic pancreatitis has been hospitalized for the past three weeks. The mother of the patient has stayed at the beside since the admission. The mother is a appropriated caregiver and really concerns for her child. Despite the chronic disease course of the necrotic pancreatitis, Wendy discussed with the mother regarding what kinds of processes need to be taken place before discharge, such as home health. She believes this will help to alleviate some stress off from the mother. Wendy did not specify when the patient would be able to go home, but rather explained what need to be accomplished prior to discharge. I think this is a appropriate action since it gives the mother an idea of what to expect in ahead. So far, the GI disorders that I have encountered in this clinical rotation are so different than the ones I saw during my primary care clinical rotations. Those patients are more complex and acutely ill. I was unfamiliar with many of these disorders (e.g superior mesenteric artery syndrome) and had to look them up. Beside the various GI disorders, understand and able to utilize different diagnostic tools and labs to help to make GI diagnosis is another thing that I hope to accomplish during my clinical time with Wendy. I am looking forward to next week s clinical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Sculptures at Crosby Beach Whilst visiting Crosby beach in October 2013 there was evidence of the public altering the statues appearance. Somebody had knitted around the ankle of one, and also placed a hard hat on the head. The statues being placed at Crosby beach had created a large tourist attraction and we see how the public introduce their own enjoyment to the art. With the sculptures being constantly moved to different locations, they were granted permission to be permanently positioned at Crosby beach in 2005, despite some objections. Certain people believed that the figures were offensive and pornographic due to them being naked with genitalia on show. They also believed that they were a safety hazard due to it being difficult to differ between a human and a sculpture in low lighting. Also, reaching the figures close to the sea was shown as a hazard due to the sinking mud; a problem which I had encountered myself! The sculptures being made out of Cast iron is also relevant to them being positioned in Crosby beach. The cast iron links to the Liverpool s industrial origin as a major port. The figures stand watching as many ships pass each day, as they are reaching their new destination. The sculptures are possibly standing, waiting to travel to Another place. This point is strengthened by the fact that some of the sculptures are half buried in the sand, giving the impression of the statues walking into the sea. Given a choice, I would interview, Ludwig van Beethoven, Barack Obama, and Jordan Spieth. These people are successful and have had historical influence. Beethoven was a composer during the 1700 s into the early 1800 s. He wrote many pieces, even as he slowly became deaf. I would ask, Once a composer dies, he often becomes more famous. How does that make you feel? Once Beethoven died, people started to discover his pieces and started reproducing them, which led to more fame. Another would be, Are your works of music dedicated to anyone? Beethoven never married, and works of art always have inspirations behind them. • 10. Greasy Lake Literary Analysis Biographical criticism is used to identify and establish certain aspects of stories from an author s experience. Most authors have demonstrated this theory by writing from their own personal memories. From Emily Dickinson to Stephen King, countless authors have either written from their own background or put him/herself into a story. Some have even re written a terrible memory into the way they wanted that moment to turn out. John Updike and T.C. Boyle brought this theory to life in their works A P and Greasy Lake . By reading these stories, one can feel a personal connection to them because they feel so profoundly relatable. Therefore, in A P and Greasy Lake , one can grasp the actuality of the stories by putting themselves in the author s shoes and remembering their youth. A P is an excellent use of biographical criticism when connecting to an author s past. The way Updike wrote this short story proves to the reader that he can still make a connection to that younger part of himself; since the main character is about nineteen years old and the author was twenty nine when he wrote it. While reading the story, one can already connect with the familiarity of it when the main character mentions the aggravating customer, She s one of these cash register watchers, a witch about fifty with rouge on her cheekbones and no eyebrows...She d been watching cash registers forty years and probably never seen a mistake before (Updike 1). Ronald Bailey, the author, indicates Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of growth hormone use offers a treatment plan for those who are short in stature. Bailey also acknowledges bioethics as a seriously debated topic in the medical field. Bioethics deals with the studies of moral issues in the fields of medical treatment and research (Caplan). Bailey touches on the topic of bioethics as it deals with the use of growth hormones, specifically Human Growth Hormone (HGH) for people who are distinguished by their short stature. FDA Ruling and the Ethics Behind it In July of this year, the FDA announced growth hormones, traditionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money spent on treatment. According to bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan, using such drugs to change the height of children implies it is unacceptable to be short. Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution curve and say they have a disorder, you re starting down a slippery slope (Bailey). It is dangerous to state people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal then more will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often do not have disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are naturally taller than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the use of drugs will increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height. At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. There are many formulas people have said are accurate in predicting how tall your child will be . . . some of these may have at one time been based upon some scientific ideas, most are only a reasonable guess at best (Steele 1). If there is no completely accurate way to predict how tall a child will be, then there is no way for anyone to decide and limit which children are getting the injections of ... If I were to use this book in a second grade classroom and be questioned about it by the principle I would say that I am using it to teach the concept of cause and effect. Concept books are great to use because there are so many benefits that can come out of them. In this book particularly it would be a great simulant of discussion for the students, they can explore the different ideas within the book and talk amongst each other about their own opinions. Once the students share their answers I will then ask them what happened once they ate to much candy or once they tripped over something. Once everyone is done sharing I will introduce the topic of cause and effect and explain to them using the previous examples what cause and effect is. For example, when the students ate to much candy they got a tummy ache, the cause of the tummy ache was eating too much candy and the effect of eating too much candy was a tummy ache, I will do the same thing and use the example of tripping over something. Once they have a pretty good understanding of the concept I will read the book to them. Once I am done reading the book the students and I will go back through it and figure out all of the examples of cause and effect throughout the book. For example, in the book it reads If you take a mouse to school, he ll ask you for your lunch box. When you give him your lunchbox, he ll want a sandwich and a snack for later. After reading this the students and I would discuss that the cause of the mouse wanting the lunch box was because he was going to school and because he was given a lunch box he wanted to fill it with food for later and that was the effect the mouse receiving the lunch box. Once the students understand this concept pretty well, they will break into groups of two and create a short story of cause and effect using any animal they want. I would celebrate with my family back in Wisconsin, on that day but I m like nine states way from home. Overall, I turn around and went out to eat at Chick fil A at Phoenix on campus. Marriage is organized as a measure of convenience and status rather than of love in most cases. This attitude aligns with the way women are typically treated: as prizes, not powerful, or even worthy of respect. It was considered more important to marry for status than for love. The only exceptions to this inclination come in stories where women are presented as more powerful. The best example is between Shahrazad and Shahrayar. The Thousand and One Nights offer a unique perspective on the roles of women in Muslim society. Some of the in framed stories portray women as disobedient wives, as beautiful concubines and slaves who are always eager to please men, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The police carry an enormous burden each day, which makes their job really hard. Police work is very stressful and involves violent, and split second decision. Nevertheless, cases like the shooting of Samuel DuBose, and Walter Scott and the choking of Eric Garner has raised questions regarding our police system. In many confrontations the police are put in a position in which they have to use force to control the situation, but there are different levels of force and most of the time the situation dictates the level of force that s necessary. In addition, I will explain different cases of police brutality, the use of excessive force, and the consequences the officers have faced. While many disagree with the rough treatment by police, others argue that the police are well trained to use force and that they should be tough on crime and apprehend criminals. Both men had great diplomatic skills and strong personalities which lead to all sorts of reforms within their nation. The reason I feel this an interesting topic is the automobile has become such a steady presence in the daily life of society over the past century that we often take for granted the amount of science and engineering that go into them. The thermodynamics involved are a direct daily application of the topics we covered in this course, it also applies concepts we learn in other courses. Increasing both pressure and temperature of the mixture within the cylinder. Combustion (Power) As the piston reaches the top of its cycle and the mixture is properly compressed the spark plug is fired. This ignites the highly pressured fuel air mixture, this ignition of the fuel source is a chemical reaction. Simply put it s a contained explosion that even further increases the pressure within the cylinder, the gas wants to expand with all this energy so it pushes the piston downward in the cylinder, rotating the crankshaft by its attachment through a connector rod. This is the stroke that does most of the work which is why it s often referred to as the power stroke Exhaust The piston is now at the bottom of the cylinder, which is filled with exhaust gases left over from the chemical reaction in the combustion cycle, the rotating crankshaft now pushes upward on the piston, as the piston moves upwards exhaust valves open, allowing the pistons movement to push the gas out of the cylinder so that the engine can start the 4 stroke cycle ... • 33. Who Is To Blame For Achilles Summary: The poet has the Muse tell, through him, the story of Achilles wrath towards King Agamemnon despite Achilles being responsible for many Greek warriors dying. Apollo has been killing Greeks through plagues for several days because Agamemnon has the daughter or Apollo s priest kidnapped. Unaware of why Apollo is displeased with the Greek forces, they find the seer Calchas and discover Agamemnon s wrongdoing who eventually agrees to appease Apollo but demands Achilles surrender Agamemnon Briseis. Achilles, with the consul of Athena, complies and also leaves the Greek armies. Achilles mother Thetis complains to Zeus who in turn decides to honor Achilles, displeasing his wife Hera. Commentary: Now many people would automatically blame Agamemnon for the plagues Apollo brought down, which is just, but they will forget that Apollo already was on the side of the Trojans so it wasn t going to change things very much, although it wasn t the smartest idea to make a god even more against you than before. The candle and oil based lamps still had many downfalls. One problem was that the application still used fire as the source of light. The fire would omit carbon monoxide and always posed a threat if the fire was not watched closely. The oil based lamps could fall over and would create a large fire by igniting all the oil at once, burning everything flammable around the lamp. (Hayward 23 25) The next form of lighting was the incandescent lighting, more commonly known as a light bulb, which depended on electricity. Thomas Alva Edison devoted all his adult life to science. Once Thomas Edison had enough money to be comfortable, he opened a laboratory in New Jersey. The selfless act the gods committed led to one of the major reasons for human sacrifices which was that since the gods gave up their own life for the creation of the new world, that the Aztecs had to somehow respect and honor their action. The Aztecs used scared and solar calendars to tell time and when all the possible combinations had been used, usually every fifty two years, the Aztecs would go through a twelve day period before the cycle started again (Benson 506). There were many different methods the Aztecs used to sacrifice their victims but most sacrifices centered on the method of heart extraction. The victims were, thrust onto the stone, where a temple priest cut through their chest wall with a ritual flint knife, and the heart was, [offered] to the sun for vitality and nourishment, ( Aztec Human Sacrifices ). There was also the act of burning the victim alive in the sacrificial fire but before they reached death they were taken out and their heart would be taken out (Callery 33). Connecting the gap to security arguments, the gap is further widened when collective memory functions as the key in altering the status quo especially in asymmetrical conflict where the weaker group fears the total domination of the other and contests the imbalance by resorting to violence. A clash in security narratives is seen: Palestinians justify their violent actions by trying to balance out with Israel claiming that they feel powerless and fear the loss of dignity, while Israelis justify their actions citing issues of threat and security.
