Privacy Law Of The American Workplace
In this article Evans summarized privacy law in the American workplace, and also scholar Mathew
Finkin painted a dramatic picture of the surveillance under which many many American employee
work. Moreover, Finkin mentioned in this article that 34% of American employee are monitored
continuously with regard to their email and internet usage privacy. In addition, He also pointed that
The problem of employee privacy and productivity becomes more significant as the boundaries
between formal and informal places of work blur. Employee monitoring can also be conducted in
other ways that were not possible until very recently. For example, some cellular telephones have built

because there are more facts about how surveillance is used among society, and how companies and
governments are benefited this surveillance and the purpose of using surveillance. It is very important
to me to use this source for my research because I want to compare how companies and government
protected their data and restrict form their employee and the how employee see this surveillance at
work, and how it affected their privacy rights. To me this source is useful for my research and I ll get

them wherever people go or move to other states.
Rowley is well illustrated the development of surveillance technology in the U.S. Uses of the

surveillance technology for law enforcement while business use it to monitor employees for theft,
prevent workplace harassment and stop inappropriate computer use. He also pointed out that

New World Beginnings (33,000 B.C. A.D. 1769)
First Paragraph
The earth was formed over 6 billion years ago, yet in terms of time, only recently was a Western
civilization formed.
Even more recently, the Americas were accidentally discovered, and they would prove to drastically
influence and alter the future of earth.
The Shaping of North America
The Americas were formed from the single supercontinent that contained all of the earth s landmass.
Some 225 million years ago, a single supercontinent contained all the world s dry land chunks of
terrain began to separate, thus creating the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, as well as forming the
great continents that would be Europe, Asia,, Australia, Africa, Antarctica, and the Americas
North America was shaped through a multitude of natural occurrences.
Continued shifting and folding of the earth s crust thrust up mountain ranges.
When the glaciers finally melted about 10,000 years ago, they created and the North American
landscape as we know it today
Peopling the Americas
Natural occurrences also helped for a population in the Americas. the glaciers contributed to the
origins of the continent s human history
Although it is uncertain, many believe that the glaciers of the Ice Age melted and gave way to the
Bering land bridge that allowed people to populate the Americas from Eurasia.
At the same time, the ice caps over the diverse and vast geology of the Americas melted, allowing
people to travel and populate down to the

Censorship In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
After reading Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury in high school, I felt I had a good
understanding on how books and reading have an impact on society. Books allow us to broaden our
imagination, our vocabulary and our intellect. Literature can become a source of debate, ideas,
conversations and enjoyment. Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 depicts how government can censor even the
simplest form of freedom, the enjoyment of reading. Montag, the antagonist, is a fireman trained to
save lives and put out fires, ironically, burns books so people are unable to enjoy the imaginative
world books create. They solely relied on technology for entertainment and opinion, which caused
people to be separated from each other. Bradbury uses the symbolism of censorship to convey how
technology can control society and may lead to an extinction of the human spirit. In the book
Fahrenheit 451, the censorship of books is dictated by the government and carried out by people such
as Montag s captain, Captain Beatty as he has been conditioned by the censorship ... Show more

Bradbury tied in censorship to personal freedom of expression, the First Amendment of the United
States. Bradbury wanted his readers to understand what can happen if the government was allowed to
control every aspect of life, to where people can live, eat, read, watch and have independent thoughts.
Bradbury believed You don t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading
them. English Professor Faber in Fahrenheit 451 in essence was Bradbury s ultra ego, being the voice
of reason, amplifies life and that he is not like the majority of the people afraid to be individuals.
Faber lives his life with meaning, stating I don t talk things, sir. I talk the meaning of things. I sit here

Composition II
Composition II in Red, Blue, and Yellow
First impressions of Piet Mondrian s Composition II with Red Blue and Yellow generally identify the
art as shapes with color. However, there is much meaning behind the abstract work of art. Created in
1930 on a 46x46cm canvas, the oil painting portrays thick, black brushwork separating different
figures of rectangles. It was made on the foundation of Neo Plasticism, an artistic movement at that
time focusing on the most basic, abstract elements of painting. The artist s intended effect, harmonious
tension, is well achieved through the contrast between the colored rectangles and black lines, and
perspective.
An element of the art that helped convey the effect was the contrast between the colored rectangles
and black lines. The artwork portrayed different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Separating these rectangles is black lines, all of different thickness. Mondrian saw this contrasts
between the colored shapes and line as a metaphor for reality. It signifies both the balance and
harmony of dynamic forces in life. These dynamic forces in life work together to create peace, just as
the rectangles and lines work together to create peace in the art. The overall asymmetry contributes to
the other effect: tension. The black lines run off of the canvas, and seem to never end. Nothing in the
painting is alike, all different shapes and colors. Although the painting can seem so beautiful and
perfect at first, it may also bring the stress and lust to make to go and align the shapes and lines to
make it symmetrical. This is a metaphor for the utopia and dystopia in life. Life can be so calming, yet
comes with it, is the tension and anxiety. For example, in Mondrian s life, he moved to the
Netherlands in pursuit of expanding his art. This relatively hopeful and jubilant decision was shut
down when World War I began. It had seemed like World War I

Portia, The Merchant Of Venice
Portia, The Merchant of Venice
Do you agree that Portia is a memorable character in the play The Merchant of Venice?
In the play The Merchant of Venice, there are many female characters who face injustice alone in
society. Portia as many seemingly paradoxical identities. This makes her a memorable character in the
play The Merchant of Venice. She has represented being dutiful towards her father, being an innocent
young woman, a mortal breathing saint who posses god like amity , a hard headed and calculating
lawyer who is fully conversant with the tricks of the legal trade, and is advocate of mercy who
ruthlessly destroys Shylock.
Portia is not a memorable character because amongst her god like amity and her mortal breathing saint
personality, she also portrays a deceitful character through her complex personality. Portia s
personality is superficial. Her evaluation of her suitors is both articulate and scathing; Portia
deconstructs each man with a kind of clinical precision, seeming to take particular pleasure in
questioning their masculinity. God made him, and therefore let him pass as a man; (1.2.50). This quote
reveals Portia s conception of masculinity seems to have little to do with mere anatomy. The French
Lord, she says, though he posses the outward signs of masculinity, plays a man s part poorly that only
God s intent allows him to be considered one. She apparently believes herself to have superior
judgement of what make a truly masculine man. Though her

The Freedom Of The United States Essay
Freedom House was established in 1941 in the United States and focused first on the threat to freedom
represented by Nazism. After the war, in its own words, it took up the struggle against the other great
twentieth century totalitarian threat, Communism and defined its mission as working for the spread of
democracy and human rights in the world. Indeed, one of the instruments developed by Freedom
House in order to spread its mission is the s press freedom index, which has not changed practically at
all since its creation in 1980. Due to this methodological continuity for over three decades, this index
is amply used and quoted within and outside academia (Becker et al., 2007; Holtz Bacha, 2004;
Behmer, 2011). During the analyzed period 2010 2014, the questionnaire suffered minor, but
significant changes: as of 2011, the word bloggers was introduced in some of the questions, together
with professional journalists. The instructions for answering another question indicate that the
respondent should consider written, audio visual and internet media . Freedom House included the
latter in the measurement as a response to criticism of its exclusive focus on traditional media and
disregard of digital media (Burgess, 2010). Freedom House uses a scale of 0 (best score) to 100 (worst
score) based on 23 questions and 109 indicators divided in three categories: legal environment (a
country may obtain up to 30 points), political environment (maximum of 40 points) and economic

After the concourse, upper bowl and temporary warehouse are completed, work can start
simultaneously on building the luxury boxes (90 days), installing the seats (140 days), installing the
Jumbo Scoreboard (30 days), and installing the stadium infrastructure (120 days) which includes:
bathrooms, lockers, restaurants, dressing rooms, media rooms, etc. Once the seats are installed then
the steel canopy can be constructed (75 days) followed by the installation of the lighting and sound
systems (30 days).
The retractable roof represents the most significant technical challenge to the project. Building the
roof track supports (80 days) can begin after the lower concrete bowl is constructed. After this, the
dimensions of the roof can be finalized (10 days) and the construction of the roof at a separate site can
begin (180 days). After the roof supports are completed then the roof tracks can be installed (90 days).
Once the roof tracks are installed and the roof is completed and trucked in (5 days), installed and made

Transgenic Mouse Model
What is the major problem being addressed by this study?
This research aims at understanding how Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) develops after traumatic
incidents such as stroke. In our lab, we use a transgenic mouse model in order to selectively delete
PTEN from dentate granule cells (DGC) found in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus where TLE
forms. The experiments have shown that deleting PTEN causes abnormalities amongst DGC, causes
mice to display seizures, and is sufficient to cause TLE. By utilizing advanced imaging and neuron
reconstruction we are able to test the leading hypothesis that abnormal DGC drive TLE.
What specific questions are you asking and how will you attempt to answer them?
In this proposal we want to know: 1) the relationship between abnormal cell morphology and temporal
lobe epilepsy (the most common type of post stroke epilepsy) 2) What are the other intrinsic and
extrinsic cell changes that occur in this model 3) Whether there is an alteration in the ratio of
excitatory and inhibitory inputs to the cell that can ultimately drive TLE. To answer these questions,
we will use a transgenic mouse model and neuroimaging techniques to reconstruct the abnormal
neurons and then analyze them using neuron tracing software. Additionally, we will use a transgenic
mouse combined with advanced tracing techniques to trace abnormal cell inputs. ... Show more

Two thirds of patients who suffer from stroke develop TLE. The proposed study will test whether the
pathology of PTEN Knockout cells is a primary driver for TLE or merely a secondary change
following seizures. Additionally, we will characterize the different natural and extraneous cell changes
that occur within a genetic model of an epileptic animal. This will ultimately help delineate
mechanisms by which temporal lobe epilepsy develops. This will guide creating treatment and
intervention for patients with post stroke

enjoying better life than in Nepal and Bhutan. They have all access to the United States government
support and the most important thing they have new identity and citizenship. They would never have
these accesses even they were repatriated to Bhutan or resettled in Nepal. The research report from the
past during the time of frequent suicide (2008 2012) suggest that there were already 67 suicide and 64
suicide attempts cases between 2004 to 2010. The report also found the cases of gender based
violence, history of mental illness with suicide and untreated mental illness in the refugees.

new country in overnight as we don t have any suicide case of Bhutanese refuges in the current days
and the U.S. government refugee policy is not the primary reason behind the suicide of these refugees.
However, I believe that the United States government need to organize local community programs,

How Hitler Lost the War Essay
As an influential, forceful person, Adolf Hitler used his articulate speech to empower the Nazi
political party. Hitler received complete power as the Chancellor of Germany, after passing the
Enabling Act. He utilized the totalitarian power to create the Third Reich, and through military moves
and a propaganda movement headed by Joseph Goebbels, he made a great impact on the Germany s
citizens. Hitler influenced the Germans into sharing a deep sentiment of nationalism, and the
significance of the Aryan, or master, race. With this widespread attitude and the mobilization of the
German military, Hitler spearheaded the second world war. Despite the positive contributors to the

This surprise approach startled the Allies, mostly since the thought of massive tanks traveling through
the Ardennes Forest was incredible. This German movement pushed the Allies to Dunkirk, a location
on the English Channel. Hitler then commanded the German forces to turn around, deciding that the
Luftwaffe were more suitable to finish the job and win the battle. The Luftwaffe had minimal success
after a dense fog obstructing the vision of the Luftwaffe and making it possible for the British to
escape to safety. This mistake was prodigious Hitler s decision prevented the Germans from wiping
out the British army. If this had occurred, Germany would have had a great opportunity to invade
Britain amphibiously. However, Hitler did not take advantage of the opportunity, and missed out.
Hitler s Rape of the Ukraine was his most critical of blunders. From the perspective of the Slavs, the
Germans seemed to be liberators, come to save the people from the cruel jurisdiction of Stalin. If
Hitler had used this to his advantage, he could have had more manpower in his attack of Moscow.
Instead, he looked at the Slavs as mongrels, an inferior race. The Ukraines also had more experience
dealing with the Russian winter and terrain. However Hitler was unable to look past his prejudice, and
shipped the Slavs off to concentration camps to be exterminated. Hitler took their food and treated
them uncivilly. Had he done right by these people, he would have gained

Self Identity In A Raisin In The Sun By Lorraine Hansberry
Self identity is the core of every person. It develops the specifics of personality all the way to the most
detailed physical makeup. Knowing where someone stands in life can change who they are and,
moreover, how they see the things around them. In A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry,
Beneatha Younger struggles to accept her self identity. Her family perceives her as selfish, as
Beneatha talks about having things that she would not be able to even fathom without the help of her
family, but this selfishness is actually her courage to be her own person and ignore what others expect
from her. She finds herself trapped in between wishing and having the educational goals her family
jokes are hobbies. Beneatha s struggle with positive self identity leads her to disobey the what s

The Role Of Women In The Arabian Nights
Society s view of women has changed as a result of what they have accomplish to become relevant
inside a man oriented culture. Women are accused of being untrustworthy, due to their approach of
going around the rules. Although this may be true, their limited possibilities push them to use their
cleverness to look for alternatives that will help them reach their goals. The stories of The Arabian
Nights demonstrate that when women are in control of a situation they must be trusted, as long as they
act upon good will. Heroes, kings and presidents, for so long men are the protagonist of the stories.
Across the world and through the centuries, women have always been situated below men. Women
were considered the weak sex, they are portrayed as delicate, obedient, naive and passionate. Never
trust in women; nor rely upon their vows (44). As the wives of the kings on The Arabian Nights,
whose passion brought them to cheat on both their husbands. They ended up being executed because
they threatened the kings power. Or bringing danger into the families, as the wives of Kasim and Ali
Baba, who wouldn t think of the consequences of their actions and would act by the pure instinct of
greed and naiveness. Yet, seldomly acknowledged, women have had to step up to fix troubled
situations, the few stories told of women of scarce resources who have manage to triumph over the
standardized society. This not only shows how women take advantage of the resources at their reach
but how their

The Death Of The Trenches
Children are often considered carefree and innocent, which is the reason behind their state of
happiness. They rarely cross paths with conflict from the outside world, but what happens when they
become men and are sent off to fight in the war? Otto Dix s visual representation along with the
poems, Suicide in the Trenches by Siegfried Sassoon, Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owens, and
Blessed Are by Charles Peguy all capture the horrors and distress caused by World War 1. When it
came time to enlist in the war, young men were ecstatic about becoming heroes by the act of serving
their country. Although, in reality these men did not know the consequences that came with their life
changing decision to go into combat. Sassoon s Suicide in the Trenches exposes the psychological
issues that overwhelmed one soldier in particular, but as the reader, it is clear that the feelings
described belong to any soldier that ever felt the wrath of the war. The first stanza paints a picture of a
soldier who knows nothing of death or destruction. Line number three, specifically, reads slept
soundly through the lonesome dark (Suicide in the Trenches). This shows that prior to the war, this
soldier felt comfortable and safe within the walls of his home and most importantly, he felt safe within
himself. The last mention of him is in the second stanza where it is revealed that he committed
suicide. The last stanza could resemble a call of action. The narrator calls the civilians

The Infinity Inside By Georg Cantor
Introduction
While perusing certain articles on the news aggregator app Flipboard, I came across a blog post from
the Huffington Post entitled The Infinity Inside. The compelling title gave way to an even more
intriguing body, which referred to infinity not in mathematical terms but as an abstract principle that
governs the universe. This encounter instigated a profound curiosity in me, spurring me to investigate
the concept of infinity further; after searching how large is infinity on the Internet, I discovered a
TedEd video exploring the central question How Big is Infinity? This video introduced me to the idea
that there exist multiple forms of infinity, many of which are actually larger than each other. This
prompted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To define infinity, I will first explain the underlying logical framework of Cantor s Infinite Set Theory.
To prove the existence of multiple, larger infinities, I will work through Cantor s Theorem of power
sets. Through listing, I will also explore the different types of possible infinities and test whether or
not it is true that all mathematical objects can be arranged in sets.
Basic Concepts of Set Theory
Set theory is considered a fundamental basis of modern mathematics whose notions can be built upon
to form more complex areas of study. A set is simply a collection of objects . These objects are called
members or elements of the set and are governed by well defined membership criteria. In order to
know whether or not an object belongs or does not belong to a set, there must be clear rules that
delineate which objects are acceptable for inclusion. For example, if we had a set of all prime
numbers, the number 4 could not belong to the set as it has more positive divisors than just 1 and itself
it violates the specific criteria for membership in the set.
There are two types of sets as defined by Georg Cantor: finite and infinite. A finite set is simply one
whose size, or cardinality, can be defined by a natural number. Cardinality describes the number of
elements contained in a set. The members of any set (finite or infinite) can be placed in a

Stock Characters In The Princess By William Goldman
According to Dictionary.com, a stock character is defined as a character in literature, theater, or film
of a type quickly recognized and accepted by the reader or viewer and requiring no development by
the writer . Stock characters are widely seen as stereotypical and cliche. This simple and standard type
of character is well known and reappears throughout literature, no matter the time period or genre. A
common stock character is the damsel in distress. This is an age old example of a stock character and
can be found in countless stories, fables, myths, and novels, dating back to some of the earliest pieces
of literature. A damsel in distress is typically an unmarried woman in some sort of trouble who is in
need of saving. She is often times trapped, lost, and hopelessly passive. She requires a savior to rescue

Essay on Heroes of Celtic and Germanic Mythology
Heroes of Celtic and Germanic Mythology
Throughout the myths of the Celtic and Germanic peoples of northern Europe tales of epic heroes and
their extraordinary deeds abound. These tales depict heroes performing a variety of incredible feats;
many of which appear to be magical, superhuman, and, quite honestly, utterly impossible (e.g., wading
across oceans, defeating armies virtually single handedly, and other astounding exploits). Since the
Celtic and Germanic tribes of antiquity inhabited neighboring lands and lived in close proximity to
one another (as many of their modern descendants continue to do: i.e., in Great Britain), it is not
surprising that they often established intimate relationships with each other via commerce, ... Show

Nonetheless, Beowulf displayed many characteristics, which are not unlike those exhibited by other
legendary champions. Although Beowulf s birth does not appear to have been divine or shrouded in
mystery or magic, his lineage was noble since his mother was the daughter of the high Geatish king
Hrethel. Furthermore, in his analysis of the Beowulf Legend Howell D. Chickering, Jr. suggests that
Beowulf was a vessel, through which divine power operated. He claims that the appearance of the
shining light as Beowulf decapitated Grendel s mother was a manifestation of white magic and
symbolized good triumphing over evil:
The sword itself is destroyed in the process, its blade melting away in battle icicles from the poisonous
blood of the monster. Only the golden hilt remains, engraved with the legend of how God destroyed
the race of giants in the Flood. This sequence suggests that Beowulf wins his underwater victory as an
agent of Providence and in a manner that somehow resembles the cleansing of the earth by the Flood
(274).
Thus, in spite of his mortal birth and upbringing, albeit a noble and heroic upbringing, Beowulf may
have eventually became an instrument of divinity.
Beowulf unquestionably displayed the enhanced endurance that was so often a trait of the epic heroes
of Celtic and Germanic lore. This endurance was evidenced by

The Pros And Cons Of AI And AI
The phenomena of computers have most certainly become an indispensable part of everyday life and
have inevitably revolutionized the way in which we live. Although their presence is made visible in
the small everyday aspects of life, computers more often than not mark their presence in the fields of
mathematics and science, where numbers become the language in storing and working with vast
quantitative data and information. It can then be said that in crunching numbers and processing such
vast information, computers are able to exhibit forms of knowing and understanding. Does this mean
then, that due their ability to process such large amounts of data, computers are able to attain a degree
of knowledge and understanding which far surpasses the human mind? While there may be numerous

It is true that some Al programs are more flexible, with recent innovations regarding abilities of

form of intelligence than that of a human s, as even if the AI is able to further evolve, it might not
necessarily mean that it would be able to gain the intelligence of an adult human. Human intelligence,
after all, cannot be defined by mere programming and algorithm. Thus, it could perhaps be said that
the AI lacks the ability to fully rationalize and reflect on its decisions. Therefore, as computers, and
ultimately AI are designed and programmed in a systematic way, they are in a sense still not fully

Applying A Notation Involving Subscripts Essay
To allow for generalizations of the simple regression analysis to large numbers of variables, it is
convenient to adopt a notation involving subscripts. It will be assumed that X1, X2, X3, . . . denote the
variables under consideration. Accordingly X11, X12, X13, . . . will denote the values assumed by the
variable X1, and X21, X22, X23, . . . will denote the values assumed by the variable X2, and so on.
With this notation, a sum such as X21 + X22 +‫‏‬X23 ‫‏‬
+ ...+‫‏‬
X2N could be written ∑_(j=1)^N▒X_2j ,
∑_j▒X_2j , or simply ∑▒X_2 . When no ambiguity can result, we use the last notation.
Just like simple regression model, a multivariate regression equation is an equation for estimating a
dependent variable, say X1, from the independent variables X2, X3, . . . and is called a regression
equation of X1 on X2, X3, . . . etc. In functional notation this is sometimes written briefly as E[X1] =
F(X2, X3, . . .) (where E[.] refers to statistical expectation).
For the case of three variables, the simplest linear regression equation of X1 on X2 and X3 has the
form
X_1=b_1.23+b_12.3 X_2+b_13.2 X_3 (2.14) where b1.23, b12.3, and b13.2 are constants. The double
subscript in for example b12.3¬ indicates the coefficient of the model relating variable 1 to 2 keeping
variable 3 constant. If we keep X3 constant in this equation, the graph of X1 versus X2 is a straight
line with slope b12.3. If we keep X2 constant, the graph of X1 versus X3 is a straight line with slope
b13.2. Due to the fact

Figurative Language In Under Milk Wood
We do not deliberately associate poetry and advertising as related concepts nor do we acknowledge
these mediums to be of equal significance. Universally, poetry is identified to be one of the greatest
accomplishments of the creative arts, attributable to the complex diction and manipulation of
figurative language presented in the nature of these literary works. Conversely, advertising is
measured as far from being an independent art it is frequently represented as abundant in deceptive
connotations to persuade a specific audience through the use of wheedling subject matter to promote a

the quiet, landscape of the city at night is delivered by Richard Burton s ominously articulated radio
performance of Dylan Thomas s play, Under Milk Wood and overlapped with a minimalistic and

from others of its kind and so incredibly emotive is the use of visual language, in the absence of a
concrete script. Empty classrooms, bare roads, the scenes depicting the desolated surroundings would
expectantly evoke feelings of negativity. However, the dismal theme and subdued hues meets the
expected emotional response in relation to the impression that driving at night is liberating etc. In the
graphically prepossessing imagery of vast solitude, there is no apparent narrative; yet the tagline
resonates in our minds. This feeling of enlightenment is kindled, similar to poetry, where the aesthetics

Corruption In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Imagine growing up and committing your life to the prosperity of education. Each day you strive to
better yourself in order to provide for your family in the making. Picture pouring all of your hard work
and dedication out to give your child an even better education that you received. In the end, you
discover all of your funding and expenses were used by the school for other political campaigns,
diverting to other private interests rather than your child s needs. This is an example of corruption in
society, just as displayed in the novella Animal Farm, by George Orwell. Condensing the story, main
characters Napoleon and Squealer rise to power and set out to create a paradise of equality and
prosperity for all animals. What the community soon finds is that the growing tyranny leaves the once
bright future crumbling at the seams. Squealer and Napoleon are both narcissists that manipulate
Animal Farm according to their needs only. During the introduction of Animal Farm, Orwell unfolds a
character whose name was Mr. Jones. He was the owner of the Manor Farm with a lack of dictatorship
and leadership skills that left his farm in shambles. The animals on the estate were kicked around and
were given the bare minimum, shown by Orwell when he lists The life on an animal is misery and
slavery: that is the plain truth. Jones s reoccurring drinking problem and reckless behavior shows the
animals something must be done to get rid of him. A satisfactory showcasing of the events in this

Steel and Tariffs Essay
Steel and Tariffs
We have all heard this joke. Only now the horse has been replaced with consumers of steel in the US
steel industry. Why? Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce their goods
are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a tariff on
imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of the steel
import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. Unfortunately though, that
hasn t happened. Steel prices are currently at record highs and many forecast even higher prices to
come. This puts huge pressure on small businesses that are dependent on steel for their well being.

On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all shouldn t
we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it is hard to
determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of. Plus, which jobs
are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of the down stream users
of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business owners and ourselves as the
increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us, the consumer.
The Argument for Tariffs
Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on our
economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade policy
has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for import
policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a result,
domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective tariff raises
revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the expense of
foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from foreign
exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. This money can then be used in domestic
government policies and could

What Is The Myth Of The Underground Railroad
The Underground Railroad is a popular topic in United States history, but many of the stories told
about it are more myth than fact. Quilts have been often used as a symbol in children s picture books
to further the understanding of one of the darkest periods of United States history: slavery. Parents and
teachers have eagerly embraced these illustrated books as a way to understand and teach past turmoil.
Many of these books suggest that people who participated in the Underground Railroad used quilts as
a means of communication to help slaves safely escape to freedom. The idea of quilts as
communication tools has been well received, and many educators have created wonderful programs,
guides, and lesson plans to extend the experience with these books and to further explore United
States history; however, what is depicted in these books have been consistently contested by quilt
historians and folklorists This essay discusses the myth that secret codes were stitched into quilts to
help slaves escape to freedom and why this myth continues today.
After the Civil War, an explosion of published information in the form of diaries, letters, and
autobiographies like Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, written in 1861 by literate slave Harriet
Jacobs and William Still s 1871 The Underground Railroad, detailed the abuses of slavery ( Harriet A.

Design is a huge factor when deploying wearable technologies and eHealth systems. Unless there is a
good design that is not bulky and is easy to use, users will not want to adopt the new product.
The second barrier is data collection, with the rise of wearable technology and eHealth applications
the collection of data has been increasing. Data collection is the center of all applications and
wearables. How is data being used or what is the company storing? This is a huge barrier due to the
fact that more people are becoming aware of their personal privacy. With phones your GPS is tracked
unless specifically turned off and you are able to get a workout at a click of a button. But with all of
this data being collected, are companies only using it for your personal use or are they using it for
another matter (Hooge, 2015)? Data collection is a barrier due to the fact that people do not know
what the companies are using the data for. Most users of the wearables or eHealth applications do not
own their data, the data is instead stored and collected by the companies. Users only get provided with
a summary of the data collected while the company has free reign to do whatever they please with it.
With the increase of people understanding their privacy and rights, it provides a barrier with wearables
and eHealth applications as people want to understand how their data is being used (Piwek, Ellis,

Environmental Effects Of Mangroves
Mangroves are an essential part of the Tampa Bay Estuary as they help maintain the overall health of
the state s coastal zones. From the 1950s to the 1980s, the Tampa Bay was in its worst condition as a
result of unregulated pollution into the Bay. Environmental regulations beginning in the 1970s with
the Clean Water Act improved conditions in the bay but even today there persists a problem with
pollution and the destruction of natural habitats (Water Resource Management and Environmental
Assessment Restoration, 2014). Today, the Tampa Bay has lost over 44% of its coastal wetlands
acreage, including mangrove forests and salt marshes (Department of Environmental Protection,
2012). There is still decline as waterfront development and pollution threaten the abundance of this
essential tree. If the mangroves disappear from the Tampa Bay estuary, the area will suffer adverse
ecological and economic effects from the reduction of sea life. A reduction of mangrove trees can even
increase damage caused by natural disasters (Sandilyan and Kathiresan, 2012).
In order to maintain the health of these forests and the Tampa Bay Estuary I recommend enacting a
change in the 1996 Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act to set stricter regulations on the
trimming of mangroves, a reduction on waterfront development, stricter control over pollutants in the
area, and the categorization of areas designated for mangrove growth, restriction, and removal. Failing

Finding the right location is top priority for this project. The garage must not be far away from either
the shopping complex or the casinos. If it is the project may fail because it does not alleviate the
inconvenience of walking for the shoppers. The projected length of time for this project is 12 18

suppliers, contractors, the city, and any permit problems.
Budget
The national average of a five level parking garage is approximately 145,000 square feet (Reed
Construction Data, 2012). The project will require the hiring of an architect and a contractor. The
architect duties will include creating a schematic design and draft floor plans, finalize drawings,
obtain necessary permits and serve as the development manager of the project. The contractor will
provide the services and materials need for the job and is responsible in hiring subcontractors. The
national average for the cost per square foot to build a five level parking garage is between $50 and

they were the values of our founding fathers. I have to say that not all the values of our founding
fathers are values I want to embody.
Despite the fact that the founding fathers assumed the existence of an almighty power, they also
protected the right of the people to believe or not. Gewertz does not agree with all ideas of the
founding fathers, but he also says, the phrase under God is in keeping with the intentions of the
Founding Fathers. They anchored their thinking in the idea of a higher law in order to ensure that all
power does not reside in the state. Agreeing with Gewertz, Cameron thinks that the founding fathers
would not be too happy with the way things are going now.
Furthermore, in recognition of the words under God being added to the Pledge of Allegiance,
President Eisenhower told of how thankful he was

Mirror Reflection
Who is the boy I see in the mirror? He is over weighted, unsuccessful, paranoid, and insecure. It was a
grotesque reflection of myself and a visualization of a loser. So I was frequently scared to confront my
true self in the mirror and ignored my fundamental problem. When I devoured three plates of lasagna
and every sip of the cream soup that would add another pound of fat and flesh to my stomach, you
should control your eating habits, stopped were two of the many concerned advice that I commonly
heard in a daily basis. But all of them did not understand what I was going through. People always
said that the scoops of ice cream and a stack of waffles were the problem for me, but it was more than
what meets the eye for my situation.
The stacking piles of homework and the mean test scores that always ignored the effort I put in gave
me so much frustration and stress. To overcome all this, I always found myself reflected in the mirror
holding a melting chocolate bar in my one hand and my pencil on the other, sitting next to a pile of
snacks. However, as the weight gauge points to a new higher number everyday, I got more stress from
the humiliating number and the thoughts of others judging my appearance that led me to opening
another candy bar. It was a vicious cycle.
I look horrible, My grades are terrible. These were some of the words that always flew around my
mind when passing by other people in school. However, I always covered all these depression with a
smile

The Third And Final Constant Factor Essay
The third and final constant factor originates directly as a result of the anarchic international
environment. As stated, a state acts largely in its own best interest. However, given more than one
state exists, multiple interests oftentimes intersect. Competition, the final constant, results from this
intersection. Rarely, this competition spins out of control into armed conflict. Prior to engaging in war,
a state must carefully weigh any potential benefits against likely costs. Mearsheimer defines this as
calculated aggression. Most likely, state level competition remains at a level lower than war. Over
time, state power balances develop and eventually solidify. Most importantly, state competition, a state
s prevailing interest to secure an improved chance for its continued survival, remains firmly in place.
Seen in this light, both Waltz and Gilpin s arguments for modifying or upending this balance make
better sense. Waltz argues that the international structure limits state behavior. A state can pursue its
interest only so far as to not upset the international balance. Gilpin steps past Waltz concluding a state
can choose to remake the balance if it decides its benefits outweigh expected costs. One could view
Gilpin as a balanced (no pun intended) medium between Mearsheimer s aggression and Waltz s
caution. Despite their respective differences, in prescribing to a realist philosophy, Mearsheimer, Walz,
and Gilpin would each conclude persistent state

The J.B. by Archibald MacLeish Argues Why God Allows Evil...
If God is powerful and loving the humankind, then why does He permit evil as well as suffering in
this world? Various answers had been offered by many Christian philosophers and many victims of
suffering, but there was not a lucid answer that could settle this argument permanently. God uses
malicious acts of this world to rise up His own people and remind them that there is an opportunity
that they can posses their eternal life. Literature, especially biblical literature has exploited this
biblical nature to its fullest in various types of forms, including the play J.B. by Archibald MacLeish.
In the play J.B, Archibald MacLeish reanimates and modernizes elements taken from the story of Job
to come up with his own response to the ultimate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sarah once asked her children on a Thanksgiving Day, Has anyone of you thanked God? Really
thanked Him? (29). At first, Sarah fearfully respects God, because she already knows that her
prosperity that she has today is going to be taken by God eventually. Sarah s true temperament is not
truly revealed after the death of her five children. Has death no meaning? Pain no meaning? , Sarah
questioned J.B (109). Sarah is bitter and angry at God, because she does not expect God to take away
her loved ones that fast. She even becomes more depressed and hopeless when J.B is still faithful to
God at this point. At the end of Scene Eight when Mrs. Murphy said, And he s alone now , implying
the leaving of Sarah for her own good. Sarah is an example of fake piety that is fallen after an
astonishing punishment. Just like the story of Job where god takes away Job s animals and family, J.B
s five children are now gone along with his job as a banker. Fortunately, J.B still stays strong despite
the fact that his family is corrupting, because he believes that God will show him his guilt as one of
God s puppet so he can be released from the prison of anxiety.
All sufferings need to be comforted just like a wild fire that needs to be extinguished. Therefore, in the
story of Job, the Three Comforters come to Job and comforted him hoping that he would get a better

Nuclear Energy Is A Threat Weapon Of Mass Destruction
Introduction It all started in the 1940 s, when two atomic bombs, Fat Man and Little Boy were
dropped onto innocent Japanese civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the aftermath of the
catastrophic attacks, nuclear energy was being rebranded as a clean and safe energy option for a
brighter future. The country was split. On one hand, nuclear energy was the key to a more green
future, but on the other hand, it was a potential weapon of mass destruction. Today, over 439 nuclear
reactors are operating in 31 countries. The energy from these plants provide more than 14% of the
world s electricity.
What is Nuclear Energy? Atoms are the basic building block for almost everything in the universe.
They consist of a nucleus, made up of protons and neutrons, and an electron cloud surrounding it.
When the bonds holding the nucleus together are broken through nuclear fission, tremendous energy is
unleashed; this is nuclear energy. During nuclear fission, a neutron collides with a uranium atom and
splits, discharging huge amounts of energy in the form of radiation and heat. Additional neutrons are
also released when a uranium atom splits and they go on to hit even more uranium atoms; this starts a
nuclear chain reaction. Nuclear chain reactions are measured in a nuclear power plant to control the
amount of heat produced. Most power plants use a special type of uranium, called U 235, for nuclear
fission because its atoms are easily split apart. While normal uranium is about a

The Danger Of A Single Story Essay
Watching the TED talk that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie gave on The Danger of a Single Story was
powerful. A single story has insufficient primary sources to have the full comprehension of the real
story. Seeing Adichie verbalize issues that I have discovered in myself allowed me to reflect deeply
regarding my perception of others. Adichie spoke on how her childhood was filled with English
stories and how she gained a perspective on their culture through books. Books are truly powerful
storytellers and is often forgotten about in a society where books are taken for granite. A book in
another one of my classes was based on Adichie s idea of how English stories only told one side of the
story; this book explored the lives an Igbo society and how English stories portrayed them differently
than who they actually were. This proved that I am not alone in making a single story, furthermore ...

I have always been the person to want to hear both sides of an argument, therefore, allowing myself to
be impartial. After learning the concept of a single story, I can now be thoughtful when trying to
understand those around me. This is crucial to the role of an RA since she/he have to connect and learn
about the students she/he will be around. Understanding the students past will allow for an open and
unique relationship, creating a welcoming environment. Learning about those in the residence halls
will allow for better interpersonal communication. Taking the concept of a single story into the
residence halls will allow help to settle arguments as well. By teaching each student the concept of the
single story they will hopefully understand their roommates on a more personal level. In the case they
do not work it out by themselves, I would take them aside and have each share their side of the story
to allow for understanding of the

Arguments Against Same Sex Marriage
Same sex marriage is a huge controversial issue still being debated in the world today. Many people
believe that same sex marriage is not justifiable but then many others believe that there is no problem
with this circumstance. I believe that homosexuals and lesbians should be permitted to marry if they
choose to. After researching this issue for two weeks, I came across four different people, two against
and two for the issue on same sex marriage. They all have strong opinions and arguments on this issue
and have represented their side extremely well.
Not only will I be talking about why people are opposed to same sex marriage but I will also be
talking about why people are for it and their facts and reasons to support their beliefs. ... Show more

The next fact that Dr. Cameron talks about is homosexual marriage having the highest rate of domestic
violence. He gives many reasons for supporting his facts with many different statistics, including that
the average rate of domestic violence in a traditional marriage that was established by a nationwide
federal government survey of 6, 779 married couples in 1988 is less than five percent per year. Only
two percent of husbands and 3.2 percent of wives said that they were hit, shoved or had things thrown
at them but with unmarried couples the percentages rise with a rate of about 20 % to 25% per year.
But in a same sex marriage, 48% of forty three lesbian and 39% of thirty nine gay couples reported
domestic violence and from a study that had 70 lesbian and gay students that were put into a conflict
resolution situation with gay and lesbian relationships, there was an estimated 29% of gay and 56% of
lesbian couples that experienced violence in the past year.
In conclusion, many people still believe that same sex marriage is not something that should be
allowed, yet many states are now considering it including, Massachusetts who already passed a law.
There are many facts that have been listed above and some that haven t even been shared in my paper
but the solid facts about same sex marriage being justifiable are the ones that

Moreover, Finkin mentioned in this article that 34% of American employee are monitored continuously with regard to their email and internet usage privacy. A.D. 1769) First Paragraph The earth was formed over 6 billion years ago, yet in terms of time, only recently was a Western civilization formed. Even more recently, the Americas were accidentally discovered, and they would prove to drastically influence and alter the future of earth. The Shaping of North America The Americas were formed from the single supercontinent that contained all of the earth s landmass. Some 225 million years ago, a single supercontinent contained all the world s dry land chunks of terrain began to separate, thus creating the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, as well as forming the great continents that would be Europe, Asia,, Australia, Africa, Antarctica, and the Americas North America was shaped through a multitude of natural occurrences. When the glaciers finally melted about 10,000 years ago, they created and the North American landscape as we know it today Peopling the Americas Natural occurrences also helped for a population in the Americas. the glaciers contributed to the origins of the continent s human history Although it is uncertain, many believe that the glaciers of the Ice Age melted and gave way to the Bering land bridge that allowed people to populate the Americas from Eurasia. • 4. Censorship In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury After reading Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury in high school, I felt I had a good understanding on how books and reading have an impact on society. Books allow us to broaden our imagination, our vocabulary and our intellect. Literature can become a source of debate, ideas, conversations and enjoyment. Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 depicts how government can censor even the simplest form of freedom, the enjoyment of reading. Montag, the antagonist, is a fireman trained to save lives and put out fires, ironically, burns books so people are unable to enjoy the imaginative world books create. They solely relied on technology for entertainment and opinion, which caused people to be separated from each other. Bradbury uses the symbolism of censorship to convey how technology can control society and may lead to an extinction of the human spirit. In the book Fahrenheit 451, the censorship of books is dictated by the government and carried out by people such as Montag s captain, Captain Beatty as he has been conditioned by the censorship ... Bradbury believed You don t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them. English Professor Faber in Fahrenheit 451 in essence was Bradbury s ultra ego, being the voice of reason, amplifies life and that he is not like the majority of the people afraid to be individuals. • 5. Composition II Composition II in Red, Blue, and Yellow First impressions of Piet Mondrian s Composition II with Red Blue and Yellow generally identify the art as shapes with color. However, there is much meaning behind the abstract work of art. Created in 1930 on a 46x46cm canvas, the oil painting portrays thick, black brushwork separating different figures of rectangles. It was made on the foundation of Neo Plasticism, an artistic movement at that time focusing on the most basic, abstract elements of painting. The artist s intended effect, harmonious tension, is well achieved through the contrast between the colored rectangles and black lines, and perspective. An element of the art that helped convey the effect was the contrast between the colored rectangles and black lines. The artwork portrayed different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Separating these rectangles is black lines, all of different thickness. Mondrian saw this contrasts between the colored shapes and line as a metaphor for reality. It signifies both the balance and harmony of dynamic forces in life. These dynamic forces in life work together to create peace, just as the rectangles and lines work together to create peace in the art. The overall asymmetry contributes to the other effect: tension. The black lines run off of the canvas, and seem to never end. Nothing in the painting is alike, all different shapes and colors. Although the painting can seem so beautiful and perfect at first, it may also bring the stress and lust to make to go and align the shapes and lines to make it symmetrical. This is a metaphor for the utopia and dystopia in life. Life can be so calming, yet comes with it, is the tension and anxiety. For example, in Mondrian s life, he moved to the Netherlands in pursuit of expanding his art. This relatively hopeful and jubilant decision was shut down when World War I began. It had seemed like World War I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Portia, The Merchant Of Venice Portia, The Merchant of Venice Do you agree that Portia is a memorable character in the play The Merchant of Venice? In the play The Merchant of Venice, there are many female characters who face injustice alone in society. Portia as many seemingly paradoxical identities. This makes her a memorable character in the play The Merchant of Venice. She has represented being dutiful towards her father, being an innocent young woman, a mortal breathing saint who posses god like amity , a hard headed and calculating lawyer who is fully conversant with the tricks of the legal trade, and is advocate of mercy who ruthlessly destroys Shylock. Portia is not a memorable character because amongst her god like amity and her mortal breathing saint personality, she also portrays a deceitful character through her complex personality. Portia s personality is superficial. Her evaluation of her suitors is both articulate and scathing; Portia deconstructs each man with a kind of clinical precision, seeming to take particular pleasure in questioning their masculinity. God made him, and therefore let him pass as a man; (1.2.50). This quote reveals Portia s conception of masculinity seems to have little to do with mere anatomy. The French Lord, she says, though he posses the outward signs of masculinity, plays a man s part poorly that only God s intent allows him to be considered one. She apparently believes herself to have superior judgement of what make a truly masculine man. Though her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Freedom Of The United States Essay Freedom House was established in 1941 in the United States and focused first on the threat to freedom represented by Nazism. After the war, in its own words, it took up the struggle against the other great twentieth century totalitarian threat, Communism and defined its mission as working for the spread of democracy and human rights in the world. Indeed, one of the instruments developed by Freedom House in order to spread its mission is the s press freedom index, which has not changed practically at all since its creation in 1980. Due to this methodological continuity for over three decades, this index is amply used and quoted within and outside academia (Becker et al., 2007; Holtz Bacha, 2004; Behmer, 2011). During the analyzed period 2010 2014, the questionnaire suffered minor, but significant changes: as of 2011, the word bloggers was introduced in some of the questions, together with professional journalists. The instructions for answering another question indicate that the respondent should consider written, audio visual and internet media . Freedom House included the latter in the measurement as a response to criticism of its exclusive focus on traditional media and disregard of digital media (Burgess, 2010). Freedom House uses a scale of 0 (best score) to 100 (worst score) based on 23 questions and 109 indicators divided in three categories: legal environment (a country may obtain up to 30 points), political environment (maximum of 40 points) and economic ... • 9. Transgenic Mouse Model What is the major problem being addressed by this study? This research aims at understanding how Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) develops after traumatic incidents such as stroke. In our lab, we use a transgenic mouse model in order to selectively delete PTEN from dentate granule cells (DGC) found in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus where TLE forms. The experiments have shown that deleting PTEN causes abnormalities amongst DGC, causes mice to display seizures, and is sufficient to cause TLE. By utilizing advanced imaging and neuron reconstruction we are able to test the leading hypothesis that abnormal DGC drive TLE. What specific questions are you asking and how will you attempt to answer them? In this proposal we want to know: 1) the relationship between abnormal cell morphology and temporal lobe epilepsy (the most common type of post stroke epilepsy) 2) What are the other intrinsic and extrinsic cell changes that occur in this model 3) Whether there is an alteration in the ratio of excitatory and inhibitory inputs to the cell that can ultimately drive TLE. To answer these questions, we will use a transgenic mouse model and neuroimaging techniques to reconstruct the abnormal neurons and then analyze them using neuron tracing software. Additionally, we will use a transgenic mouse combined with advanced tracing techniques to trace abnormal cell inputs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This German movement pushed the Allies to Dunkirk, a location on the English Channel. The Luftwaffe had minimal success after a dense fog obstructing the vision of the Luftwaffe and making it possible for the British to escape to safety. This mistake was prodigious Hitler s decision prevented the Germans from wiping out the British army. If this had occurred, Germany would have had a great opportunity to invade Britain amphibiously. However, Hitler did not take advantage of the opportunity, and missed out. Hitler s Rape of the Ukraine was his most critical of blunders. From the perspective of the Slavs, the Germans seemed to be liberators, come to save the people from the cruel jurisdiction of Stalin. If Hitler had used this to his advantage, he could have had more manpower in his attack of Moscow. Instead, he looked at the Slavs as mongrels, an inferior race. The Ukraines also had more experience dealing with the Russian winter and terrain. Women are accused of being untrustworthy, due to their approach of going around the rules. Although this may be true, their limited possibilities push them to use their cleverness to look for alternatives that will help them reach their goals. The stories of The Arabian Nights demonstrate that when women are in control of a situation they must be trusted, as long as they act upon good will. Heroes, kings and presidents, for so long men are the protagonist of the stories. Across the world and through the centuries, women have always been situated below men. Women were considered the weak sex, they are portrayed as delicate, obedient, naive and passionate. Never trust in women; nor rely upon their vows (44). Otto Dix s visual representation along with the poems, Suicide in the Trenches by Siegfried Sassoon, Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owens, and Blessed Are by Charles Peguy all capture the horrors and distress caused by World War 1. When it came time to enlist in the war, young men were ecstatic about becoming heroes by the act of serving their country. Although, in reality these men did not know the consequences that came with their life changing decision to go into combat. Sassoon s Suicide in the Trenches exposes the psychological issues that overwhelmed one soldier in particular, but as the reader, it is clear that the feelings described belong to any soldier that ever felt the wrath of the war. The first stanza paints a picture of a soldier who knows nothing of death or destruction. Line number three, specifically, reads slept soundly through the lonesome dark (Suicide in the Trenches). This shows that prior to the war, this soldier felt comfortable and safe within the walls of his home and most importantly, he felt safe within himself. Basic Concepts of Set Theory Set theory is considered a fundamental basis of modern mathematics whose notions can be built upon to form more complex areas of study. A set is simply a collection of objects . These objects are called members or elements of the set and are governed by well defined membership criteria. In order to know whether or not an object belongs or does not belong to a set, there must be clear rules that delineate which objects are acceptable for inclusion. For example, if we had a set of all prime numbers, the number 4 could not belong to the set as it has more positive divisors than just 1 and itself it violates the specific criteria for membership in the set. There are two types of sets as defined by Georg Cantor: finite and infinite. A finite set is simply one whose size, or cardinality, can be defined by a natural number. Cardinality describes the number of elements contained in a set. The members of any set (finite or infinite) can be placed in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Stock Characters In The Princess By William Goldman According to Dictionary.com, a stock character is defined as a character in literature, theater, or film of a type quickly recognized and accepted by the reader or viewer and requiring no development by the writer . Stock characters are widely seen as stereotypical and cliche. This simple and standard type of character is well known and reappears throughout literature, no matter the time period or genre. A common stock character is the damsel in distress. This is an age old example of a stock character and can be found in countless stories, fables, myths, and novels, dating back to some of the earliest pieces of literature. A damsel in distress is typically an unmarried woman in some sort of trouble who is in need of saving. She is often times trapped, lost, and hopelessly passive. She requires a savior to rescue her from the grave danger in which she has found herself in. When all hope seems to be lost, this knight in shining armor enters the scene in a blazing trail of glory, saves the dame, defeats the villain, and usually ends up with her in the end. ... Essay on Heroes of Celtic and Germanic Mythology Heroes of Celtic and Germanic Mythology Throughout the myths of the Celtic and Germanic peoples of northern Europe tales of epic heroes and their extraordinary deeds abound. These tales depict heroes performing a variety of incredible feats; many of which appear to be magical, superhuman, and, quite honestly, utterly impossible (e.g., wading across oceans, defeating armies virtually single handedly, and other astounding exploits). Since the Celtic and Germanic tribes of antiquity inhabited neighboring lands and lived in close proximity to one another (as many of their modern descendants continue to do: i.e., in Great Britain), it is not surprising that they often established intimate relationships with each other via commerce, ... Although Beowulf s birth does not appear to have been divine or shrouded in mystery or magic, his lineage was noble since his mother was the daughter of the high Geatish king Hrethel. Furthermore, in his analysis of the Beowulf Legend Howell D. Chickering, Jr. suggests that Beowulf was a vessel, through which divine power operated. He claims that the appearance of the shining light as Beowulf decapitated Grendel s mother was a manifestation of white magic and symbolized good triumphing over evil: The sword itself is destroyed in the process, its blade melting away in battle icicles from the poisonous blood of the monster. Only the golden hilt remains, engraved with the legend of how God destroyed the race of giants in the Flood. This sequence suggests that Beowulf wins his underwater victory as an agent of Providence and in a manner that somehow resembles the cleansing of the earth by the Flood (274). Thus, in spite of his mortal birth and upbringing, albeit a noble and heroic upbringing, Beowulf may have eventually became an instrument of divinity. Beowulf unquestionably displayed the enhanced endurance that was so often a trait of the epic heroes of Celtic and Germanic lore. This endurance was evidenced by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although their presence is made visible in the small everyday aspects of life, computers more often than not mark their presence in the fields of mathematics and science, where numbers become the language in storing and working with vast quantitative data and information. It can then be said that in crunching numbers and processing such vast information, computers are able to exhibit forms of knowing and understanding. Does this mean then, that due their ability to process such large amounts of data, computers are able to attain a degree of knowledge and understanding which far surpasses the human mind? • 24. Applying A Notation Involving Subscripts Essay To allow for generalizations of the simple regression analysis to large numbers of variables, it is convenient to adopt a notation involving subscripts. It will be assumed that X1, X2, X3, . . . denote the variables under consideration. Accordingly X11, X12, X13, . . . will denote the values assumed by the variable X1, and X21, X22, X23, . . . will denote the values assumed by the variable X2, and so on. With this notation, a sum such as X21 + X22 +‫‏‬X23 ‫‏‬ + ...+‫‏‬ X2N could be written ∑_(j=1)^N▒X_2j , ∑_j▒X_2j , or simply ∑▒X_2 . When no ambiguity can result, we use the last notation. Just like simple regression model, a multivariate regression equation is an equation for estimating a dependent variable, say X1, from the independent variables X2, X3, . . . and is called a regression equation of X1 on X2, X3, . . . etc. In functional notation this is sometimes written briefly as E[X1] = F(X2, X3, . . .) (where E[.] refers to statistical expectation). For the case of three variables, the simplest linear regression equation of X1 on X2 and X3 has the form X_1=b_1.23+b_12.3 X_2+b_13.2 X_3 (2.14) where b1.23, b12.3, and b13.2 are constants. The double subscript in for example b12.3¬ indicates the coefficient of the model relating variable 1 to 2 keeping variable 3 constant. If we keep X3 constant in this equation, the graph of X1 versus X2 is a straight line with slope b12.3. If we keep X2 constant, the graph of X1 versus X3 is a straight line with slope b13.2. Many companies in our economy that use steel as an input to produce their goods are staggering due to recent extraordinarily high steel prices. President Bush dropped a tariff on imported steel on Thursday March 4th; according to basic economics, this cancellation of the steel import tariff should have dropped the price for US domestic consumers. On one side protection for the employees of domestic steel producers sounds good. After all shouldn t we support our fellow Americans and their employment needs? Indeed we should, but it is hard to determine which costs the American public more jobs, the tariff or the lack there of. Plus, which jobs are to be determined the most important, those of the steel workers, or those of the down stream users of steel? It may be in America s best interest to protect our small business owners and ourselves as the increased price from the tariff will most definitely be passed on to us, the consumer. The Argument for Tariffs Although tariffs usually cause domestic prices to increase they can have a positive effect on our economy and specifically our domestic producers of steel and their employees. The US trade policy has historically been protectionist in nature, and congress, the principle body of power for import policy, heavily favored domestic firms over their foreign competitors (Irwin 146). As a result, domestic steel producers have had tariffs and quotas in place for many years. An effective tariff raises revenue for our US government and can help to subsidize domestic production at the expense of foreign producers. This is good because the American government receives money from foreign exporters that it would not have otherwise had access to. Quilts have been often used as a symbol in children s picture books to further the understanding of one of the darkest periods of United States history: slavery. Parents and teachers have eagerly embraced these illustrated books as a way to understand and teach past turmoil. Many of these books suggest that people who participated in the Underground Railroad used quilts as a means of communication to help slaves safely escape to freedom. The idea of quilts as communication tools has been well received, and many educators have created wonderful programs, guides, and lesson plans to extend the experience with these books and to further explore United States history; however, what is depicted in these books have been consistently contested by quilt historians and folklorists This essay discusses the myth that secret codes were stitched into quilts to help slaves escape to freedom and why this myth continues today. From the 1950s to the 1980s, the Tampa Bay was in its worst condition as a result of unregulated pollution into the Bay. Environmental regulations beginning in the 1970s with the Clean Water Act improved conditions in the bay but even today there persists a problem with pollution and the destruction of natural habitats (Water Resource Management and Environmental Assessment Restoration, 2014). Today, the Tampa Bay has lost over 44% of its coastal wetlands acreage, including mangrove forests and salt marshes (Department of Environmental Protection, 2012). There is still decline as waterfront development and pollution threaten the abundance of this essential tree. If the mangroves disappear from the Tampa Bay estuary, the area will suffer adverse ecological and economic effects from the reduction of sea life. A reduction of mangrove trees can even increase damage caused by natural disasters (Sandilyan and Kathiresan, 2012). Recently, there has been great controversy about the words under God existing in the nations Pledge of Allegiance. Michael Newdow, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Placing God in the pledge was thought of as a term that could be applied to all religions and creeds; thus, the word God would be describing something more than just material existence. Building the basis of the United States was the founding fathers of the nation. They were not all necessarily under a Christian belief; nonetheless, they did wish for the people of the United States to have morals and values (Williams). On the contrary, some people do not feel that the nation should follow what the founding fathers thought and did. Gewertz states, We decide to keep these sayings or traditions in play just because they were the values of our founding fathers. I have to say that not all the values of our founding fathers are values I want to embody. Despite the fact that the founding fathers assumed the existence of an almighty power, they also protected the right of the people to believe or not. Gewertz does not agree with all ideas of the founding fathers, but he also says, the phrase under God is in keeping with the intentions of the Founding Fathers. They anchored their thinking in the idea of a higher law in order to ensure that all power does not reside in the state. Agreeing with Gewertz, Cameron thinks that the founding fathers would not be too happy with the way things are going now. Furthermore, in recognition of the words under God being added to the Pledge of Allegiance, President Eisenhower told of how thankful he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Mirror Reflection Who is the boy I see in the mirror? He is over weighted, unsuccessful, paranoid, and insecure. It was a grotesque reflection of myself and a visualization of a loser. So I was frequently scared to confront my true self in the mirror and ignored my fundamental problem. When I devoured three plates of lasagna and every sip of the cream soup that would add another pound of fat and flesh to my stomach, you should control your eating habits, stopped were two of the many concerned advice that I commonly heard in a daily basis. But all of them did not understand what I was going through. People always said that the scoops of ice cream and a stack of waffles were the problem for me, but it was more than what meets the eye for my situation. The stacking piles of homework and the mean test scores that always ignored the effort I put in gave me so much frustration and stress. To overcome all this, I always found myself reflected in the mirror holding a melting chocolate bar in my one hand and my pencil on the other, sitting next to a pile of snacks. However, as the weight gauge points to a new higher number everyday, I got more stress from the humiliating number and the thoughts of others judging my appearance that led me to opening another candy bar. It was a vicious cycle. I look horrible, My grades are terrible. These were some of the words that always flew around my mind when passing by other people in school. However, I always covered all these depression with a smile ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Third And Final Constant Factor Essay The third and final constant factor originates directly as a result of the anarchic international environment. As stated, a state acts largely in its own best interest. However, given more than one state exists, multiple interests oftentimes intersect. Competition, the final constant, results from this intersection. Rarely, this competition spins out of control into armed conflict. Prior to engaging in war, a state must carefully weigh any potential benefits against likely costs. Mearsheimer defines this as calculated aggression. Most likely, state level competition remains at a level lower than war. Over time, state power balances develop and eventually solidify. Most importantly, state competition, a state s prevailing interest to secure an improved chance for its continued survival, remains firmly in place. Seen in this light, both Waltz and Gilpin s arguments for modifying or upending this balance make better sense. Waltz argues that the international structure limits state behavior. A state can pursue its interest only so far as to not upset the international balance. Gilpin steps past Waltz concluding a state can choose to remake the balance if it decides its benefits outweigh expected costs. One could view Gilpin as a balanced (no pun intended) medium between Mearsheimer s aggression and Waltz s caution. Despite their respective differences, in prescribing to a realist philosophy, Mearsheimer, Walz, and Gilpin would each conclude persistent state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The J.B. by Archibald MacLeish Argues Why God Allows Evil... If God is powerful and loving the humankind, then why does He permit evil as well as suffering in this world? Various answers had been offered by many Christian philosophers and many victims of suffering, but there was not a lucid answer that could settle this argument permanently. God uses malicious acts of this world to rise up His own people and remind them that there is an opportunity that they can posses their eternal life. Literature, especially biblical literature has exploited this biblical nature to its fullest in various types of forms, including the play J.B. by Archibald MacLeish. In the play J.B, Archibald MacLeish reanimates and modernizes elements taken from the story of Job to come up with his own response to the ultimate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sarah once asked her children on a Thanksgiving Day, Has anyone of you thanked God? Really thanked Him? (29). At first, Sarah fearfully respects God, because she already knows that her prosperity that she has today is going to be taken by God eventually. Sarah s true temperament is not truly revealed after the death of her five children. Has death no meaning? Pain no meaning? , Sarah questioned J.B (109). Sarah is bitter and angry at God, because she does not expect God to take away her loved ones that fast. She even becomes more depressed and hopeless when J.B is still faithful to God at this point. At the end of Scene Eight when Mrs. Murphy said, And he s alone now , implying the leaving of Sarah for her own good. Sarah is an example of fake piety that is fallen after an astonishing punishment. Just like the story of Job where god takes away Job s animals and family, J.B s five children are now gone along with his job as a banker. Fortunately, J.B still stays strong despite the fact that his family is corrupting, because he believes that God will show him his guilt as one of God s puppet so he can be released from the prison of anxiety. All sufferings need to be comforted just like a wild fire that needs to be extinguished. Therefore, in the story of Job, the Three Comforters come to Job and comforted him hoping that he would get a better sense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Nuclear Energy Is A Threat Weapon Of Mass Destruction Introduction It all started in the 1940 s, when two atomic bombs, Fat Man and Little Boy were dropped onto innocent Japanese civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the aftermath of the catastrophic attacks, nuclear energy was being rebranded as a clean and safe energy option for a brighter future. The country was split. On one hand, nuclear energy was the key to a more green future, but on the other hand, it was a potential weapon of mass destruction. Today, over 439 nuclear reactors are operating in 31 countries. The energy from these plants provide more than 14% of the world s electricity. What is Nuclear Energy? Atoms are the basic building block for almost everything in the universe. They consist of a nucleus, made up of protons and neutrons, and an electron cloud surrounding it. When the bonds holding the nucleus together are broken through nuclear fission, tremendous energy is unleashed; this is nuclear energy. During nuclear fission, a neutron collides with a uranium atom and splits, discharging huge amounts of energy in the form of radiation and heat. Additional neutrons are also released when a uranium atom splits and they go on to hit even more uranium atoms; this starts a nuclear chain reaction. Nuclear chain reactions are measured in a nuclear power plant to control the amount of heat produced. Most power plants use a special type of uranium, called U 235, for nuclear fission because its atoms are easily split apart. While normal uranium is about a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Danger Of A Single Story Essay Watching the TED talk that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie gave on The Danger of a Single Story was powerful. A single story has insufficient primary sources to have the full comprehension of the real story. Seeing Adichie verbalize issues that I have discovered in myself allowed me to reflect deeply regarding my perception of others. Adichie spoke on how her childhood was filled with English stories and how she gained a perspective on their culture through books. Books are truly powerful storytellers and is often forgotten about in a society where books are taken for granite. A book in another one of my classes was based on Adichie s idea of how English stories only told one side of the story; this book explored the lives an Igbo society and how English stories portrayed them differently than who they actually were. This proved that I am not alone in making a single story, furthermore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After learning the concept of a single story, I can now be thoughtful when trying to understand those around me. Understanding the students past will allow for an open and unique relationship, creating a welcoming environment. Learning about those in the residence halls will allow for better interpersonal communication. Taking the concept of a single story into the residence halls will allow help to settle arguments as well. By teaching each student the concept of the single story they will hopefully understand their roommates on a more personal level. • 45. Arguments Against Same Sex Marriage Same sex marriage is a huge controversial issue still being debated in the world today. Many people believe that same sex marriage is not justifiable but then many others believe that there is no problem with this circumstance. I believe that homosexuals and lesbians should be permitted to marry if they choose to. After researching this issue for two weeks, I came across four different people, two against and two for the issue on same sex marriage. They all have strong opinions and arguments on this issue and have represented their side extremely well. Not only will I be talking about why people are opposed to same sex marriage but I will also be talking about why people are for it and their facts and reasons to support their beliefs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next fact that Dr. Cameron talks about is homosexual marriage having the highest rate of domestic violence. He gives many reasons for supporting his facts with many different statistics, including that the average rate of domestic violence in a traditional marriage that was established by a nationwide federal government survey of 6, 779 married couples in 1988 is less than five percent per year. Only two percent of husbands and 3.2 percent of wives said that they were hit, shoved or had things thrown at them but with unmarried couples the percentages rise with a rate of about 20 % to 25% per year. But in a same sex marriage, 48% of forty three lesbian and 39% of thirty nine gay couples reported domestic violence and from a study that had 70 lesbian and gay students that were put into a conflict resolution situation with gay and lesbian relationships, there was an estimated 29% of gay and 56% of lesbian couples that experienced violence in the past year. In conclusion, many people still believe that same sex marriage is not something that should be allowed, yet many states are now considering it including, Massachusetts who already passed a law. There are many facts that have been listed above and some that haven t even been shared in my paper but the solid facts about same sex marriage being justifiable are the ones that ...
