Music in Othello
Music in Othello
In Cyprus, observing the joyous reunion of Othello and Desdemona, Iago says to himself that he will
wreck the lovers harmony: O, you are well tuned now! / But I ll set down the pegs that make this
music, / As honest as I am (2.1.199 201). The pegs to which he refers are the tuning pegs on a stringed
instrument. Their love is the instrument on which Iago is planning to loosen ( set down ) the pegs until
the harmony is turned into discord. [Scene Summary]
Because no one like to be a party pooper, Iago sings drinking songs in order to encourage Cassio to
get drunk. Drinking songs tend to be rollicking, jolly justifications of drinking. Iago s first song
delivers the message that life is short, so you might as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Othello s occupation s gone! (3.3.345 357)
The music of war, including the thunder of the cannon, makes Othello feel alive, fully himself, but
without Desdemona s love he feels that he s nothing. [Scene Summary]
Shortly after Othello has berated Desdemona about the handkerchief, Cassio appears to once again ask
Desdemona to intervene on his behalf. She tells him that My advocation is not now in tune; / My lord
is not my lord; nor should I know him, / Were he in favour [appearance] as in humour [attitude] alter d
(3.4.123 125). In other words, now is not a good time to talk to Othello; he s not himself, and if his
appearance had changed as much as his attitude, she wouldn t recognize him. The phrase in tune is so
common (in Shakespeare s time as well as ours) that it may be a stretch to call it a musical image.
[Scene Summary]
At a moment when Iago is trying to build Othello s jealousy into a murderous rage, Othello begins to
think of what a beautiful, sweet woman Desdemona is. Iago tells him that he needs to put such
thoughts out of his mind, and Othello says, Hang her! I do but say what she is. So delicate with her
needle. An admirable musician! O, she will sing the savageness out of a bear (4.1.187 189). However,
it s not Desdemona s music, but Iago s words that win the battle for Othello s soul. Othello s mood
becomes ever more savage, and he plans the time, place, and manner of

Benefits And Benefits Of Ford Motor Company
Ford Motor Company is a multinational automaker located in the United States of America. The
company has employed thousands of employees across the world. Any successful company must
provide its employees with a good compensation and benefits plan to remain competitive. As a result,
this study focused on researching the types of compensation and benefits plans Ford Motor Company
offered to its employees. The study found out that the company offers compensation and benefits

It also recognizes that the company can get maximum output from the employees by ensuring they are
always motivated and have the best working environment. One way of achieving that is through
ensuring that employees have a good organizational compensation and benefits policy. A research on
the company reveals that the management of the company has put up several organizational
compensation and benefits for their employees.
Compensation and benefits definition Compensation refers to the rewards that an employee earns from
a company in return for the labor services they provide to the enterprise (Martocchio, 2010). They
include direct financial compensation such as salaries, wages, and bonuses, indirect financial
compensation such as retirement plans, leaves, and education services, and lastly non financial
services such as advancement opportunities and career development (Martocchio, 2010). On the other
hand, benefits refer to the compensations that a company gives to its employees on an optional basis
in addition to their usual salaries. They include disability income protection (dental, vision, life, and
health), sick leave, paid and non paid vacation, and funding of education among others (Martocchio,
2010). A study on Ford Motor Company revealed that it has been providing its employees with several

Media Bias Essay
Media Bias
Is the Media Bias? Many people including myself believe that it is. On the other hand, there are
people who believe that media is not biased and just states facts. These people (i.e. my dad), who
believe that media is not biased also believe that everything on TV is true, in my experience. We see
bias in media (print or broadcast) many times. It might be the subtlest of things that is unnoticeable to
more blatant attempts. The fact is bias is everywhere and it is very difficult to separate the two. The
reasons why it is difficult are not clearly understood by my self but I can point toward the fact that
everyone is the world has opinions and in some way or form it will be presented in the way they talk
or write. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, very quickly, the articles comes to candidate bashing by each candidate rather then
discussing the issues the articles focuses on what each other says about the other. One thing that really
stood out, in five of the seven articles, are discussions of George Bush s activities were discussed prior
to discussion of Al Gore. At first, I thought that maybe it was a fluke and writer was following an
alphabetical order procedure to present the article. But, when I read the two articles that discussed Al
Gore s activities first it struck me that this is a very important aspect of any writing. This struck me as
important because I believe that the position that the writer usually supports is the one that is
discussed first and the contrast it with another view. By discussing George Bush first the ideas of Bush
are imbedded in the mind and then when discussion of Al Gore is presented it is in the mind to
compare it with the previous discussion. This might not necessarily be true but I do feel strongly about
this claim. The reason why is, when someone wants to present a unbiased presentation they will
compare and contrast the positions of both candidates throughout the whole article and not separate it
into two sections. Next, words and phrases chosen to describe the candidates activities imply bias
towards Al Gore. In almost every article I found some words or phrases that gave the impression

Brief Summary Of The Anti-Star Wars
The galaxy is in a state of civil war, and spies for the Rebel Alliance have stolen plans to the Galactic
Empire s Death Star, a heavily armed and armored space station capable of destroying entire planets.
Rebel leader Princess Leia is in possession of the plans, but her ship is captured by Imperial forces
under the command of the evil Lord Darth Vader. Before she is captured Leia hides the plans in the
memory of an astromech droid called R2 D2, along with a holographic recording. The droid,
accompanied by fellow protocol droid C 3PO, escape from the captured ship to the desert planet
Tatooine.
The droids are captured by Jawa traders, who sell the pair to moisture farmers Owen and Beru Lars
and their nephew, Luke Skywalker. While he cleans R2 D2 Luke accidentally triggers the playing of
part of Leia s recording, in which she requests help from Obi Wan Kenobi. Luke wonders if she is
referring to Ben Kenobi, a hermit who lives nearby; then he retires for the evening. The next morning
Luke finds R2 D2 searching for Obi Wan, and after nearly being killed by attacking Tusken Raiders

Macbeth- Text Responce
Prompt: Macbeth is totally responsible for his own downfall
Shakespeare s play Macbeth is about the leading male protagonist succumbing to his ambition and
need for power. Though Macbeth is liable for his own actions, he is not solely responsible for the
events that eventually result in his downfall. Macbeth is corrupted by his wife, Lady Macbeth, as well
as the three weird sisters. Macbeth s contribution towards his downfall is his strong ambitious nature.
Lady Macbeth is the person who induces Macbeth to assassinate King Duncan. The three weird sisters
(witches) play with Macbeth s ambitious nature and sense of security. Macbeth s downfall is due to
himself and two external factors.

In spite of this they decide to play create a false sense of security with Macbeth, security is mortals
chiefest enemy . To do this they made the aspirations that Macbeth sees, sound like nothing can hurt,
kill or dethrone him, none of woman born can harm Macbeth . The witches are responsible for
Macbeth s downfall because they make it seem that he cannot be killed by anything, thus enhancing
his sense of security. This heightened sense of invincibility causes Macbeth to kill MacDuff s family,
and then fight with the thought that no one can hurt him. Macbeth is not totally responsible for his
downfall, the witches twisting of words cause Macbeth to misinterpret the message, which causes his
eventual death.
In Shakespeare s play Macbeth , Macbeth is seen to be the grounds of his own downfall. Macbeth s
actions bring upon his downfall, because it is he who eventually chose to kill Banquo and MacDuff s
family. These actions were due to his ambitious nature. Lady Macbeth is also to blame for her husband
s demise because she is the one who originally pushed Macbeth into killing Duncan; her actions cause
Macbeth to eventually meet his own death. Lady Macbeth is not the only factor that cause Macbeth s
downfall. The three witches are also responsible because they heighten Macbeth s confidence and put
the idea that he cannot be killed by anything. Macbeth s ambitious nature

The Importance Of Indoor Air Pollution
Julia Henderson
H Environmental

Project
Indoor air quality at Stanwich is important for the health and comfort of teachers and students.
Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce health concerns. There are
many things that cause air pollution in our building including paint, heating system, cleaning sprays,
furniture and other materials. These pollutants can cause allergies, scratchy eyes, skin irritation and
headaches.
An approach to reducing air pollutants inside building is the use of plants and soil microorganisms.
Outside air quality depends on plants and microorganisms. Living in buildings away from plants even
without being exposed to chemicals, still exposes us to human waste products that cause indoor air
pollution problems.
What Causes of Indoor Air Problems
The primary cause of poor indoor air quality are sources that release gases or particles into the air.
Poor ventilation can increase indoor pollution by not bringing in enough outdoor fresh air into the
class that reduce the emissions from indoor pollution. Also, indoor air pollution is not carried out of
the class area. High classroom temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of
some pollutants.
Pollutant Sources
There are many sources of indoor air pollution. These can include:
Building materials and furnishings as diverse as:
Deteriorated asbestos containing insulation
Newly installed flooring, upholstery or carpet
Cabinetry or

Ideas Of Success In The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Perspectives of Success Everybody s views and ideas of success are different. Some think of money as
success. Others think of dreams as success. Few people may even think love is success. Ideas of
success can be influenced by one s values. Gatsby Daisy have very different views on success. Gatsby

already knew that she was his future. His heart beat faster and faster as Daisy s white face came up to
his own. He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her

success is stability and security to where she can be pleasantly happy. She indeed does love and miss
Gatsby, but she also is with Tom and has a security built love for him. Daisy loves the feeling of
security and wealth. That is her idea of success for herself. When she meets Gatsby again, she feels
like he can protect her, he s fun, she loves him and she misses him, so she thinks she can possibly be
with Gatsby but the thought of telling Tom scares her. When Gatsby and Tom meet, the truth starts to

secrets and he might not have been the guy she thought he was. Daisy will always love Gatsby, but she

Analyzing the Economic Development of France
France has a high level of economic development. The CIA World Factbook (2012) characterizes the
French economy as transitioning from an economy that featured extensive government ownership and
intervention to one that relies more on market mechanisms but cautions that the effects of the
Eurozone crisis are dampening progress of the French economy. France has a GDP of $2.2 trillion,
making it the 9th largest economy in the world. The GDP per capita is around $35,000, which ranks
35th in the world, comparable with Japan and the United Kingdom, but trailing several other major
industrialized nations including the US. France has a strong industrial sector but today is largely a 21st
century service economy. The degree of economic development is a strong influence on the decision
to enter a country in the first place, and on the way that the product is marketed once market entry has
occurred. EduTot should focus international expansion on nations that have a high degree of market
potential. This means that the nation should have a relatively large population, and a relatively high
level of national income. French citizens can generally afford to provide supplementary educational
products and services for their children, which makes France a viable target market for EduTot s
international expansion. In addition, French citizens are oriented towards making investments in their
children s education, because such investments will pay off in the future. This is because the French

Fixed Fee Contracts Research Paper
1. Explain what are royalty rate contracts and fixed fee contracts. What is the main difference between
them?
Royalties are disbursements produced by an organization or a licensee to another organization or
licensor in exchange for the right to use intellectual property or physical assets owned by the licensor.
Royalty agreements are divided into two types of agreements. A Fixed price per unit agreement
compensates the licensor a fixed price for every product or service sold by the licensee. Royalties pay
a percentage of revenues or profit derived from the sale of a licensed product or service. A fixed fee
contract provides a price that is not subject to any amendment. A fixed fee contract holds licensor
accountable for all costs regardless of profit or loss.
The difference between a royalty rate and a fixed fee contract is that a royalty rate contract pays on a
per unit basis and a fixed fee contract pays according to what was agreed upon in the contract

Contemplative Importance
The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1)
Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical
exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating
in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to
attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating
in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s
present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and
words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices
in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my
opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a
sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully
embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain
topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation
portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and
constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. Since arriving at

WHITE BLOOD CELLS
White Blood Cells
Bacteria exist everywhere in the environment and have continuous access to the body through the
mouth, nose and pores of skin. Further more, many cells age and die daily and their remains must be
removed, this is where the white blood cell plays its role.
According to this quotation, without white blood cells, also known as leukocytes, we would not be
able to survive. White blood cells are our body s number one defense against infections. They help
keep us clean from foreign bacteria that enter our bodies. Statistics show that there are five to ten
thousand white blood cells per micro liter of blood, however this number will increase during an
illness. White blood cells can differ in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These white blood cells are similar to Neutrophil because they attack bacteria by the immune system.
This particular group of white blood cells is extremely important in my body, because they are
prominent at sites of allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis. The nucleus of Eosinphil is made of two
lobes, and implanted in the cytoplasm are large, red orange granules, and the diameter of them is on
average about twelve to fifteen µm. The third type of granular leukocytes is called, basophil. Basophil
s major function is, secretion. They tend to have a diameter of 12 15 µm. These cells make up only
about one percent of the total population of white blood cells, causing them to be much more difficult
to detect. These cells secrete both histamine and heparin. Histamine draws blood into the damaged
area, while heparin slows clotting so that more blood can enter the damaged area.
There are two different kinds of agranular white cells. One is called monocyte, and the other is called
lymphocyte. The major function of monocyte is, phagocytosis. These cells more very quickly and are
therefore able to consume bacteria and dead tissue at a fast rate. Monocytes have an average diameter
of, 12 17 µm, and they make up about 3 8 percent of our leukocyte s population. Lymphocytes, major
function are immunity. There are many different forms of lymphocytes, and all of the different forms
have different functions. B lymphocytes

The Giver Response
Before I give my response on how I liked The Giver, I would like to give a quick summary over The
Giver. The Giver is about a Eleven year old boy named Jonas who lives in a Community that is
isolated from almost everything. Everyone in the Community is assigned a certain role to do. At the 12
years old Ceremony, they are assigned to the job that they will do for the rest of their life. When the
day finally comes for all of the Elevens to become a Twelve and to be assigned their job, Jonas is
assigned a job that not many people get, the next Receiver of Memory. It is a scary job, and his
training involves pain, and exposure to things he never has heard of or seen. For instance some of the

The way it describes the way he felt when he first experienced color. It kind of in a way was like a
blind person seeing for the first time; speechless and in awe of everything that they are taking in. I
really liked the way that Jonas felt frustrated that others couldn t truly know the beauty of color and
that he wanted to tell them but he know that he couldn t tell anyone. Even though Jonas saw all of this
beauty, he also saw tragedy. In one of the memories that the Giver gives to Jonas is the memory of war
and battle and everything that goes on during war. Jonas saw people dying and shooting at each other
in hate and saw all of the explosions that caused fires and everything was hectic. Jonas did not like
that memory at all because he had never heard of or experienced such a tragedy and hardship before
because of the Community. The Community kept every type of feeling there was away from everyone,
the good and the bad. Although some people may think that it is good to take away all of the bad
memories, I don t think so because if taking away all of the bad memories means taking away the
good memories too then I ll take bad memories along with the good ones because the good memories
are things that no one should ever want to forget because they are key moments too when they were
happy, the best moments of their

‘the Major Uk Parties Agree More over Europe Than They...
The major UK parties agree more over Europe than they disagree. Discuss Throughout the history of
European integration, the major UK parties have debated on all different aspects of Europe and the
impacts of membership on Britain itself. From both these debates and party policies, it is clear to see
that whilst there is generally a consensus over Europe, some issues have been a cause of disagreement
among the major parties. In this essay I will analyse the policies and actions of the major UK parties
that concern the EU and be able to conclude to what extent they agree over Europe. The most obvious
example of agreement between the three major UK parties is that they all favour UK membership of

The Conservatives, on the other hand, have been against joining the Eurozone ever since negotiating
an opt out from the part of the Maastricht Treaty that would have required the UK to adopt the euro.
They remain against the joining the euro, with David Cameron saying in his recent speech on Europe
that Britain is not in the single currency, and we re not going to be . One common criticism of the EU
by all three major parties has been the lack of democracy within the EU institutions. Even the pro
European Liberal Democrats have said that the certain parts of the EU need to be reformed. One of the
main reforms supported by the major parties is the reform of the EU budget to get better value for
money, as they believe that the UK pays too much into the budget and does not get as much out of it
as it pays in. A policy that the all parties wish to reform is the Common Agricultural Policy. The CAP
takes up 32% of the EU s budget, but only supports a small minority of EU businesses. They believe
that the CAP makes food more expensive in the EU than it needs to be, and that it increases poverty in
poor countries by competing unfairly with local farmers. The major parties also support reform of the
Common Fisheries Policy, with all three voting in favour of reform of the CFP in the European
Parliament in February 2013. The Liberal Democrats and

The Tax Of The Cadillac Tax
Description The Cadillac tax is a popular name for the highly controversial excise tax on applicable
high cost employer sponsored insurance (ESI) coverage imposed under the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act (ACA) (Gravelle, 2015). Great debate ensued following the proposal of this tax,
which was initially set to be implemented in 2013, however differences in opinion between the House
of Representatives and the Senate culminated in the delay in the implementation of this tax until 2018
(Herring, 2011). It is a nondeductible 40% excise tax on the value of applicable employer sponsored
health coverage that exceeds a determined threshold (Lowry, 2015). The tax targets employer
sponsored health coverage plans that are considered to be overly generous or have relatively low cost
sharing requirements in an effort to raise revenue to offset the costs of implementing other ACA
provisions, as well as encourage a reduction in the growing expenditure and costs of national health
care and offset some of the effects of the income tax exclusion for ESI (Lowry, 2015). Applicable
coverage for the purposes of the Cadillac tax includes any coverage availed to an employee by an
employer that is excludable from an employee s gross income under section 106 of the IRC (Mach,
2015). Applicable coverage includes, but is not restricted to an employee s contribution to heath
insurance premiums, Health care flexible spending account (FSA), Health savings account (HSA),

Grapes And Different Types Of Grapes
Wine is one of the most fascinating drinks among the European citizens. It is an alcoholic beverage
prepared from the fermented grape juice. Grapes have the chemical property of carrying out
fermentation without the utilization of sugars, enzymes or other nutrients. It is prepared fermenting the
crushed grapes with the different types of yeast strains. Yeast consumes all the sugars present in
grapes and converts them into alcohol. Different types of grapes and different strains of grapes are
responsible for the production of different types of wines. Apples and berries are also utilized for the
preparation of wines and the wines obtained are named after the name of the fruit like apple wine or

Wine is prepared from more than one varieties of Vitis vinifera like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Gamay and Merlot. When one of these varieties is used the resultant is termed as varietal.
The world s most expensive wines come from the regions like Bordeaux and Rhone Valley are
blended from different varieties of the same vintage. Wine can also be prepared from the hybrid
varieties of grapes obtained by genetic cross breeding. Vitis labrusca, Vitis aestivalis, Vitis rupestris,
Vitis rotundifolia and Vitis riparia are native North American varieties of grapes grown for the
production of jams, jellies or sometimes wine.
Hybridization is a different process so cannot be confused with grafting. Most of the world s grape
vineyards are planted with the European variety of grapevine Vitis vinifera grafted with the North
American species rootstock. This is basically done because the North American species are resistant to
Phyllosera a root louse that damages the roots of grapevines resulting in death. In the late 19th century
most of the vineyards of Europe were destroyed by a bug leading to deaths of grapevines and heavy
economic loss. Grafting is a common practice in all wine producing nations except Argentina, Chile
and Canary Islands and only these areas include vineyards free from any devastating pests. Associated
with wine production terroir is an important concept that includes variety of grapevine to

David Mancina s Lawsuit Against The National Football League
On October 15, 2012, a fan of the New Orleans Saints, David Mancina filed a lawsuit against the
National Football League (NFL) and its commissioner Roger Goodell. Mr. Mancina s complaint was
framed as a class action lawsuit representing all season and single ticket holders for the Saints games
during the 2012 2013 season. The basis of his lawsuit stems from the NFL s punishment to the Saints
organization in connection with the bounty scandal. On March 21, 2012, following an investigation,
the NFL imposed a punishment against the Saints, with the head coach, assistant coach, general
manager, and several players being suspended. Additionally, the team was required to forfeit its
second round of draft choices in 2012 and 2013. First, it is ridiculous for David Mancina to try and sue
the NFL and the commissioner for rightfully punishing a team in their opinion. Mr. Mancina has no
rights to say what is right or wrong for the NFL or commissioner to do especially since he does not
hold a leadership role such as a stakeholder, coach, general manager, etc. with the Saints of even in the
NFL. Who is he to say that the league does not have sufficient evidence to warrant the suspensions?
That is kind of ridiculous to say in my opinion. This is kind of the risk you take when you purchase

Attracting younger customer also help us improve brand image compare to competitor. From data
(Chart 4) we can see that BMW driver are younger compare to main competitor, such as Lexus and
Mercedes, if we can make BMW brand attach with young and then make other competitor brand look
old this will help to attract more younger customer and make them commit to use BMW for the rest of
their life. Another thing that we can see from BMW customer base is while average ages of BMW
owner are younger but their average incomes are higher we make people remember that BMW is the
car for highly educate, bright, affluent person who want to have a great driving experience . If we can
own that position which utilize BMW strong point as Ultimate driving machine then push other
competitor to car for boring and old people . This campaign also improve brand image by reduce bad
thing that associate with BMW brand such as Status symbol, Yuppie Machine and also stress what
BMW is all about amazing performance and try something new and exciting. This show people what
make a BMW a BMW which is the main purpose of this campaign.
From all reason above I think this campaign is successfully improving brand image of BMW and
since target customer of BMW in another part of the world is almost the same we can use this movie
to another part of the world. The effect may be not as successful as original one because we lose

Medication Error Prescribing Essay
Medication Error Prescribing Medication mistakes is a critical global issue and the utmost principle
widespread dilemma that terrorizes patient safety that might spearhead to disability or death if not

Use of Food in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis...
Search for food, reproduction, sleep; the primal needs for every uni and multicellular organism is to
consume in order to survive and by doing so ensuring the continued existence of its own species. As a
consequence, eating and drinking is not only an individual but also a common necessity; it is the basis
of a civilization (Keeling 5). But food is more than just nutrition; it can be pleasure or temptation, and
the way how or what is consumed is always as well a mark [for] humankind s morality (qtd. in ibid.:
6). Therefore, it is not surprising that the universal experience of food occupies an important place
within every culture (Katz 197 8). It was Eve s lusty bite into an apple that caused, according to
Christian belief, the Fall and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2). In fairy tales, as well as in their medieval oral origins, the lack of food is especially prominent
(ibid. 62). In the Brothers Grimm version of Hansel and Gretel, famine is the reason for the
woodcutter to abandon his children, but after the witch s death the siblings find precious jewellery
providing enough wealth not to suffer starvation again . Fairy tales often promised plenty of food to
satisfy hunger (ibid. 62 3); a mere fantasy which was supposed to satiate the reader s appetite in
literature since it often could not be satisfied in their everyday life. But besides the satisfying effect of
fictional food, Hansel and Gretel already hints at a more negative approach to food. The siblings are
tempted by the witch s house consisting of bread and sweets. Especially evangelical discourses
demanded dieting to resist the temptation of sins like gluttony or sloth (Labbe 94). Also the required
dining etiquette of the increasing middle class, as well as the partly lethal food alterations of
nineteenth century England, led to a rising number of didactic tales about right and wrong food (ibid.

Direct Characterization In Walden
In addition, Thoreau evaluates common characters to exploit traits that encourage the reader to alter
their own life. However, given that Walden is a first person account, the most impactful character is
Thoreau himself. While living in the woods, he refers to many different people, focusing on the
qualities that hold them back from self realization. For example, when describing a woodchopper,
Thoreau vocalized the following: ...due to his simplicity, he s a well of good humor and contentment.
However, he declares the one fault of the woodchopper as being, primitive and immersed in his animal
life ( Walden ). Even though this character holds some ability to think independently, sole reliance on
a naturalistic life eradicates the desire to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Thoreau is able to appreciate young children before businessmen and farmers. Unlike the
working class, kids still make time to leave town temporarily, dunking themselves in the belittled
spirituality of the forest. On the other hand, technological advances have forced farmers to worry less
about the size of the crop and more about making the land productive. Significant evidence is found in
this statement: Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after (
Walden ). Also, Thoreau mentioned reformers as the greatest bores of all due to their false
recommendations of the conditions in which they rely solely on logic and argument. In this case,
individuals fall into a pattern of tradition, indicating insufficient awareness of higher truth. Yet, being
the main character, Thoreau effectively explores life at Walden Pond to prove the advantages of
rejecting materialism and embracing simplicity. In other words, a solid foundation wasn t created until
he searched for a broader understanding. By making the most of life, very little actually compares to
the strength of nature. As shown, character considerably heightens the perception of

My Observation At The Mall Center Mall
For my observation, I decided to go the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton, Florida to observe the
advertisements that are present in our community. I went to the mall to conduct research because I
need to make a purchase for a vacation, so I thought this was the perfect place to go. Each store I
walked into, there were advertisements for instant savings, but the further I walked into any store, the
prices climbed higher. Truthfully, I was shocked by the amount of people who did not care that they
were being bamboozled. Initially, we were told at the front of the store that there were discounts, but
we had to find out on our own that the prices raised exponentially. This was the exact reason why I

Effective Management And Control Of Malaria
Malaria is one of the diseases that has caused deaths to many people, more so those living in prone
localities. As a result, there is the need for weighty research to be done about Malaria so that better
control methods can be mitigated. Even though some works have been done in the study of malaria
that has informed the current treatment methods, there is still need for more analysis to help in the
regular updates. Therefore, the insights provided hitherto and henceforth are crucial in the
understanding and update of effective management and control of malaria. In addition, this gives
awareness on the best way of handling a microorganism of clinical importance and determines the
causative agents of various diseases to understand how to manage them. It is important to help the
individual student to gain skills on how to receiver bacteria from the body of a human being. It places
an individual student at the better position to acquire familiarity with the laboratory and clinical
practices that help in carrying out the routine identification of bacteria in the samples collected.
Malaria is caused when the female Anopheles mosquito that carries malaria causing parasites bites an
individual human being(Yamagishi et al., 2014). For instance, the female Anopheles mosquito bites
people to feed on the blood, since the female mosquito needs blood to support during its pregnancy.

Essay on Spiral of Silence
Public communication is very important when in a discussion with coworkers and such. The one
weakness that some people run into is silence. The spiral of silence theory by Elisabeth Noelle
Neumann explains why certain people fall under the pressure and seclude to silence. Silence may not
always be a bad thing, but according to a study by Lucy J. MacGregor, the fact is that silence during a
speech or conversation is absolutely bad. With this, silence while talking to a large group negatively
affects the listeners in a way in which some words in the speech will not be remembered. The point is
that silence tends to destroy people s speeches. Words are forgotten in the speech; Loss of the attention
by the listeners happens and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In every high school, there are the jocks, the band, the nerds, the people on drugs, the religious and so
on and so forth. Some of these groups were known as the popular group and some were known as the
creeps. These names that are given to the groups still happen in everyday life when you are older and
this also affects whether or not the person will speak up about a certain topic. When certain groups
have to keep secrets from other groups for safety reasons, this does not help the silence situation at all.
The fact that groups are keeping secrets from others means that they do not trust anyone else which
forces groups into silence and they cannot voice their opinion anymore. The Spiral of Silence has a
key voice in the workplace, which involves the use of presentations. One thing affected by the listener
not wanting to support the speaker is the fact of whether or not the listener is actually paying attention
(Denham Vaughan 7). It has been said that listeners are more than likely to lose their attention when
there is a break in the speech by the speaker. When this happens, the listener is more than likely going
to jumble up sentences together and guess the wrong word to finish the current statement that the
speaker broke the pause with. This happens because the train of thought is said to be interrupted and
lose focus on the certain topic. Viewing the eyes and seeing the horizontal and vertical movement

Cosmos Plant Hydration Lab Report
The graphs and data shows the progression of the Cosmos plant while being hydrated with three
different solutions: water, lemon, and baking soda. They all have different pH levels and affect the rate
of growth. The quantitative data shows the height of the plants. Based on the data table, the water or
neutral pH had the most height, then lemon juice, and lastly the baking soda mixture. The baking soda
mixture left the plants dead after the fourteenth day of the experiment. The data shows that each plant
grew from 1 2.5 inches everytime they were checked. This can be represented by trial one of water
when the sprout grew from 3.5 inches to 5 inches. Based on the qualitative data, the baking soda

The Cosmos flower was used to test this. Water has a neutral pH which is generally the best substance
for any type of plant to grow and be healthy. However, the Cosmos also grows well when hydrated
with a more acidic substance. When hydrated with a substance that is more of abase, it will not grow
successfully, which is proven by the data since they died after the third check and became wilted. The
hypothesis was not proven because the plants watered with the acidic lemon juice grew more
successfully than base substance, which was predicted to keep the plants healthy. The tallest plants
that grew was hydrated with water and was 13 inches tall and the shortest living plant was hydrated
with the baking soda solution and was 2 inches tall. The control of this experiment was the plant, the
Cosmos Bipinnatus because it did not change. The amount of time passed in days was changing,
which makes it the independent variable. The dependent variable was the height of the plant, along
with its overall health. After composing the procedure, it was observed that the measurements were
off, which was an experimental error. The mixture between baking and water was too thick and did
not saturate the soil. This could have caused the plants to die more quickly and the pH may not have
affected the data as much if it weren t for this

Chapter 3 Technical Back Ground
Chapter 3 Technical Back Ground
Controlling Mouse 1.1 Moving Mouse Cursor We utilized the forefinger as a cursor controller to
control mouse cursor. We utilized two distinctive methodologies for moving the mouse cursor. The
principal strategy is mapping cursor control. It implies that the pointer on a camera screen can position
maps to a desktop screen position. At the end of the day, the mouse cursor is put on the desktop
window alongside the forefinger tips position showed on the camera screen position. This strategy has
an issue. In the event that the determination of the desktop window has a higher determination than
the camera determination, then the cursor position can t be precise in light of the fact that when the
camera determination believers to the desktop window determination we lose middle of the road
esteem. We expect the proportion of hopping pixel is up to 4 pixels. The second strategy is weighted
pace cursor control. We get a distinction of the finger of the present picture and the past picture and
process the separation between the two. Next, we move the mouse cursor if the hole between the two
finger pictures (present and past casing) is far then the mouse cursor moves quick or, if the hole is
close then the cursor moves moderate. This calculation additionally has an issue. Since we are
working with continuous picture preparing, the customer machine ought to be quick. The picture
information rate is 15 outlines for every second and we require

Why We deserve an A
I put a lot of work on the 7th Grade Footprints project. I spent four class periods ( 4 hours) completing

science, and social studies, however, I completed the English language arts and reading for the power

When I created the two slides I used pictures to represent irony, sarcasm, phrases, and the clauses so

The Prevalence of Younger Students Lying to Health...
Communication is a functional, purposeful, and strategic aspect of human socialization. Individuals
have the ability make conscious decisions to control their expressive language to manipulate the
perceived interpretations of others (Burgoon, Callister, Hunsaker, 445). As people acquire language,
they develop sensitivity to the Gricean maxims of conversation. The first of these maxims is Quantity
I , or the failure to provide enough information. The second of these maxims is Quantity II , or the
provision of too much or redundant information. The third of these maxims is Quality , or veracity
(Siegal, Iozzi, and Surian, 2009). These three Gricean maxims of conversation alone encompass the
prevalence of various forms of lying in the context of human communication. The significance of
lying is that it can change various outcomes that negatively impact various circumstances. In the realm
of health care, patients may lie to health professionals for a number of reasons including to acquire
unnecessary or excessive medications, to avoid embarrassment or judgment, and to reduce expensive
medical charges that may accumulate over time. No matter how well intentioned the doctor faced with
a patient in need of help may be, it is he who has the advantage resulting from the knowledge he has
(the truth) and his skills: a disproportion occurs between these two parties (Tanasiewicz, 2005, 16).
Regardless of the motivation patients may have for lying, they may be jeopardizing

Farce and Satire in Shakespeare s Comedy of Errors Essays
Farce and Satire in The Comedy of Errors
All is not as it seems in The Comedy of Errors. Some have the notion that The Comedy of Errors is a
classical and relatively un Shakespearean play. The plot is, in fact, based largely on Plautus s
Menaechmi, a light hearted comedy in which twins are mistaken for each other. Shakespeare s
addition of twin servants is borrowed from Amphitruo, another play by Plautus. Like its classical
predecessors, The Comedy of Errors mixes farce and satire and (to a degree) presents us with stock
characters.
Besides being based on classical models, is it really fair to call The Comedy of Errors a serious play? I
m not sure it is. Three quarters of the play is a fast paced comedy based on ... Show more content on

What is it, after all, that makes one person different from another? In the case of twins, where
everything physical points to identity, how can we tell one person from the other? Some of the
characters even begin to doubt their own identity. Dromio of Syracuse says, I am transformed, master,
am not I? , and his master wonders, Am I in earth, in heaven, or in hell?/ Sleeping or waking, mad or
well advis d?/ Known unto these, and to myself disguis d? (II.ii.195, 212 14).
The play may also be taken as commenting seriously on the limits of human perception and
understanding. Both in the last scene and earlier, the strange happenings raise the questions of magic
and madness. Antipholus of Syracuse says he thinks Ephesus may be full of sorcerers or witches
(I.ii.99; IV.iii.11; III.ii.156), and he wonders more than once if he has gone mad. Dromio of Syracuse
thinks he is in fairy land (II.ii.189). The play reveals the limits of human understanding, not only
through the mistakes made throughout the play, but also through the fumbling attempts to account for
what is happening in the final scene. The Duke wonders if everyone is mated, or stark mad (V.i.282),
and Antipholus of Syracuse wonders if he is dreaming (V.i.377). Adriana (wife of the other
Antipholus) puts the matter most directly when she says that her husband s presence in two

this may be to emphasize how abnormal a ghostly figure or hauntings really are within the story and

realistic to a Victorian readership. Family life within the era was held as one of the most important
aspects of their day to day lives, therefore it is only natural for the theme of family to be present

Newton also states that
The familiar unveils its association with the unfamiliar. M.R. James argues that the rooting of a story
in the common world of habits and timetables would aid the process of sympathetic identification
between the reader and the haunted one. This rapport was one more of the genre s correlations, and the
key to its power to frighten. The Old Nurse s Story does very well to stick to the genre s structure, and
is written to a high standard, that makes the readers feel fear, suspense and hope, which are all key to
grasping the reader s attention immersing them into the story and gaining the most out of it. Gaskell
does this by building the plot up to an ultimate climax, where the characters fully interact with the
supernatural beings, this build up is created by using the character s new heightened relationship and a
new unfamiliar setting, leaving the reader unnerved and waiting for something to happen. Charles
Dickens s also stated that The Old Nurse s Story was a very fine ghost story indeed. Nobly told, and
wonderfully managed. Dickens was a highly popular Victorian author during his own time and within
the modern literary world, his opinion on Gaskell s first ghost story shows just how much of a success
it was. The themes of the short story allow for all of the right elements to come through, the strongest
of these themes is the relationship Hester and Miss Rosamond share, although she is left

  • 2. Music in Othello Music in Othello In Cyprus, observing the joyous reunion of Othello and Desdemona, Iago says to himself that he will wreck the lovers harmony: O, you are well tuned now! / But I ll set down the pegs that make this music, / As honest as I am (2.1.199 201). The pegs to which he refers are the tuning pegs on a stringed instrument. Their love is the instrument on which Iago is planning to loosen ( set down ) the pegs until the harmony is turned into discord. [Scene Summary] Because no one like to be a party pooper, Iago sings drinking songs in order to encourage Cassio to get drunk. Drinking songs tend to be rollicking, jolly justifications of drinking. Iago s first song delivers the message that life is short, so you might as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Othello s occupation s gone! (3.3.345 357) The music of war, including the thunder of the cannon, makes Othello feel alive, fully himself, but without Desdemona s love he feels that he s nothing. [Scene Summary] Shortly after Othello has berated Desdemona about the handkerchief, Cassio appears to once again ask Desdemona to intervene on his behalf. She tells him that My advocation is not now in tune; / My lord is not my lord; nor should I know him, / Were he in favour [appearance] as in humour [attitude] alter d (3.4.123 125). In other words, now is not a good time to talk to Othello; he s not himself, and if his appearance had changed as much as his attitude, she wouldn t recognize him. The phrase in tune is so common (in Shakespeare s time as well as ours) that it may be a stretch to call it a musical image. [Scene Summary] At a moment when Iago is trying to build Othello s jealousy into a murderous rage, Othello begins to think of what a beautiful, sweet woman Desdemona is. Iago tells him that he needs to put such thoughts out of his mind, and Othello says, Hang her! I do but say what she is. So delicate with her needle. An admirable musician! O, she will sing the savageness out of a bear (4.1.187 189). However, it s not Desdemona s music, but Iago s words that win the battle for Othello s soul. Othello s mood becomes ever more savage, and he plans the time, place, and manner of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Media Bias Essay Media Bias Is the Media Bias? Many people including myself believe that it is. On the other hand, there are people who believe that media is not biased and just states facts. These people (i.e. my dad), who believe that media is not biased also believe that everything on TV is true, in my experience. We see bias in media (print or broadcast) many times. It might be the subtlest of things that is unnoticeable to more blatant attempts. The fact is bias is everywhere and it is very difficult to separate the two. The reasons why it is difficult are not clearly understood by my self but I can point toward the fact that everyone is the world has opinions and in some way or form it will be presented in the way they talk or write. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, very quickly, the articles comes to candidate bashing by each candidate rather then discussing the issues the articles focuses on what each other says about the other. One thing that really stood out, in five of the seven articles, are discussions of George Bush s activities were discussed prior to discussion of Al Gore. At first, I thought that maybe it was a fluke and writer was following an alphabetical order procedure to present the article. But, when I read the two articles that discussed Al Gore s activities first it struck me that this is a very important aspect of any writing. This struck me as important because I believe that the position that the writer usually supports is the one that is discussed first and the contrast it with another view. By discussing George Bush first the ideas of Bush are imbedded in the mind and then when discussion of Al Gore is presented it is in the mind to compare it with the previous discussion. This might not necessarily be true but I do feel strongly about this claim. The reason why is, when someone wants to present a unbiased presentation they will compare and contrast the positions of both candidates throughout the whole article and not separate it into two sections. Next, words and phrases chosen to describe the candidates activities imply bias towards Al Gore. In almost every article I found some words or phrases that gave the impression ... Others think of dreams as success. Few people may even think love is success. Ideas of success can be influenced by one s values. Gatsby Daisy have very different views on success. Gatsby is head over heals for Daisy. Daisy is his epic, romantic love. Meeting daisy for the first time, he had already knew that she was his future. His heart beat faster and faster as Daisy s white face came up to his own. • 10. Analyzing the Economic Development of France France has a high level of economic development. The CIA World Factbook (2012) characterizes the French economy as transitioning from an economy that featured extensive government ownership and intervention to one that relies more on market mechanisms but cautions that the effects of the Eurozone crisis are dampening progress of the French economy. France has a GDP of $2.2 trillion, making it the 9th largest economy in the world. The GDP per capita is around $35,000, which ranks 35th in the world, comparable with Japan and the United Kingdom, but trailing several other major industrialized nations including the US. France has a strong industrial sector but today is largely a 21st century service economy. The degree of economic development is a strong influence on the decision to enter a country in the first place, and on the way that the product is marketed once market entry has occurred. EduTot should focus international expansion on nations that have a high degree of market potential. This means that the nation should have a relatively large population, and a relatively high level of national income. French citizens can generally afford to provide supplementary educational products and services for their children, which makes France a viable target market for EduTot s international expansion. In addition, French citizens are oriented towards making investments in their children s education, because such investments will pay off in the future. This is because the French ... Royalties are disbursements produced by an organization or a licensee to another organization or licensor in exchange for the right to use intellectual property or physical assets owned by the licensor. Royalty agreements are divided into two types of agreements. A Fixed price per unit agreement compensates the licensor a fixed price for every product or service sold by the licensee. Royalties pay a percentage of revenues or profit derived from the sale of a licensed product or service. A fixed fee contract provides a price that is not subject to any amendment. • 12. Contemplative Importance The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1) Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. The third type of granular leukocytes is called, basophil. Basophil s major function is, secretion. They tend to have a diameter of 12 15 µm. These cells make up only about one percent of the total population of white blood cells, causing them to be much more difficult to detect. These cells secrete both histamine and heparin. Histamine draws blood into the damaged area, while heparin slows clotting so that more blood can enter the damaged area. There are two different kinds of agranular white cells. One is called monocyte, and the other is called lymphocyte. The major function of monocyte is, phagocytosis. At the 12 years old Ceremony, they are assigned to the job that they will do for the rest of their life. Even though Jonas saw all of this beauty, he also saw tragedy. In one of the memories that the Giver gives to Jonas is the memory of war and battle and everything that goes on during war. Jonas saw people dying and shooting at each other in hate and saw all of the explosions that caused fires and everything was hectic. Jonas did not like that memory at all because he had never heard of or experienced such a tragedy and hardship before because of the Community. The Community kept every type of feeling there was away from everyone, the good and the bad. One common criticism of the EU by all three major parties has been the lack of democracy within the EU institutions. Even the pro European Liberal Democrats have said that the certain parts of the EU need to be reformed. One of the main reforms supported by the major parties is the reform of the EU budget to get better value for money, as they believe that the UK pays too much into the budget and does not get as much out of it as it pays in. A policy that the all parties wish to reform is the Common Agricultural Policy. The CAP takes up 32% of the EU s budget, but only supports a small minority of EU businesses. • 16. The Tax Of The Cadillac Tax Description The Cadillac tax is a popular name for the highly controversial excise tax on applicable high cost employer sponsored insurance (ESI) coverage imposed under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) (Gravelle, 2015). Great debate ensued following the proposal of this tax, which was initially set to be implemented in 2013, however differences in opinion between the House of Representatives and the Senate culminated in the delay in the implementation of this tax until 2018 (Herring, 2011). It is a nondeductible 40% excise tax on the value of applicable employer sponsored health coverage that exceeds a determined threshold (Lowry, 2015). The tax targets employer sponsored health coverage plans that are considered to be overly generous or have relatively low cost sharing requirements in an effort to raise revenue to offset the costs of implementing other ACA provisions, as well as encourage a reduction in the growing expenditure and costs of national health care and offset some of the effects of the income tax exclusion for ESI (Lowry, 2015). Applicable coverage for the purposes of the Cadillac tax includes any coverage availed to an employee by an employer that is excludable from an employee s gross income under section 106 of the IRC (Mach, 2015). Mr. Mancina s complaint was framed as a class action lawsuit representing all season and single ticket holders for the Saints games during the 2012 2013 season. The basis of his lawsuit stems from the NFL s punishment to the Saints organization in connection with the bounty scandal. On March 21, 2012, following an investigation, the NFL imposed a punishment against the Saints, with the head coach, assistant coach, general manager, and several players being suspended. Additionally, the team was required to forfeit its second round of draft choices in 2012 and 2013. First, it is ridiculous for David Mancina to try and sue the NFL and the commissioner for rightfully punishing a team in their opinion. Mr. Mancina has no rights to say what is right or wrong for the NFL or commissioner to do especially since he does not hold a leadership role such as a stakeholder, coach, general manager, etc. with the Saints of even in the NFL. But besides the satisfying effect of fictional food, Hansel and Gretel already hints at a more negative approach to food. The siblings are tempted by the witch s house consisting of bread and sweets. Especially evangelical discourses demanded dieting to resist the temptation of sins like gluttony or sloth (Labbe 94). Also the required dining etiquette of the increasing middle class, as well as the partly lethal food alterations of nineteenth century England, led to a rising number of didactic tales about right and wrong food (ibid. 93). Significant evidence is found in this statement: Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after ( Walden ). It has been said that listeners are more than likely to lose their attention when there is a break in the speech by the speaker. When this happens, the listener is more than likely going to jumble up sentences together and guess the wrong word to finish the current statement that the speaker broke the pause with. In exploring this, Goldson draws upon the work of other authors on female violence (Susan A. • 30. Chapter 3 Technical Back Ground Chapter 3 Technical Back Ground Controlling Mouse 1.1 Moving Mouse Cursor We utilized the forefinger as a cursor controller to control mouse cursor. We utilized two distinctive methodologies for moving the mouse cursor. The principal strategy is mapping cursor control. It implies that the pointer on a camera screen can position maps to a desktop screen position. At the end of the day, the mouse cursor is put on the desktop window alongside the forefinger tips position showed on the camera screen position. This strategy has an issue. In the event that the determination of the desktop window has a higher determination than the camera determination, then the cursor position can t be precise in light of the fact that when the camera determination believers to the desktop window determination we lose middle of the road esteem. We expect the proportion of hopping pixel is up to 4 pixels. The second strategy is weighted pace cursor control. We get a distinction of the finger of the present picture and the past picture and process the separation between the two. Next, we move the mouse cursor if the hole between the two finger pictures (present and past casing) is far then the mouse cursor moves quick or, if the hole is close then the cursor moves moderate. This calculation additionally has an issue. Since we are working with continuous picture preparing, the customer machine ought to be quick. • 31. 7th Grade Footprints Project Why We deserve an A I put a lot of work on the 7th Grade Footprints project. I spent four class periods ( 4 hours) completing my part of the project while my partners completed their portion. My partners worked on the math, science, and social studies, however, I completed the English language arts and reading for the power point. I decided on the power point that I would show the upcoming 7th graders literary elements for English and grammatical constructions for reading. The two types of literary elements that I chose were irony and sarcasm, and the two grammatical construction that I chose were phrases and clauses. When I created the two slides I used pictures to represent irony, sarcasm, phrases, and the clauses so that I wouldn t bore the upcoming seventh graders. In addition, I created an interactive slide for the upcoming 7th graders. The slide contained review questions for them to complete and have fun with. • 32. The Prevalence of Younger Students Lying to Health... Communication is a functional, purposeful, and strategic aspect of human socialization. Individuals have the ability make conscious decisions to control their expressive language to manipulate the perceived interpretations of others (Burgoon, Callister, Hunsaker, 445). As people acquire language, they develop sensitivity to the Gricean maxims of conversation. The first of these maxims is Quantity I , or the failure to provide enough information. The second of these maxims is Quantity II , or the provision of too much or redundant information. The third of these maxims is Quality , or veracity (Siegal, Iozzi, and Surian, 2009). These three Gricean maxims of conversation alone encompass the prevalence of various forms of lying in the context of human communication. The significance of lying is that it can change various outcomes that negatively impact various circumstances. In the realm of health care, patients may lie to health professionals for a number of reasons including to acquire unnecessary or excessive medications, to avoid embarrassment or judgment, and to reduce expensive medical charges that may accumulate over time. No matter how well intentioned the doctor faced with a patient in need of help may be, it is he who has the advantage resulting from the knowledge he has (the truth) and his skills: a disproportion occurs between these two parties (Tanasiewicz, 2005, 16). Regardless of the motivation patients may have for lying, they may be jeopardizing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Farce and Satire in Shakespeare s Comedy of Errors Essays Farce and Satire in The Comedy of Errors All is not as it seems in The Comedy of Errors. Some have the notion that The Comedy of Errors is a classical and relatively un Shakespearean play. The plot is, in fact, based largely on Plautus s Menaechmi, a light hearted comedy in which twins are mistaken for each other. Shakespeare s addition of twin servants is borrowed from Amphitruo, another play by Plautus. Like its classical predecessors, The Comedy of Errors mixes farce and satire and (to a degree) presents us with stock characters. Besides being based on classical models, is it really fair to call The Comedy of Errors a serious play? I m not sure it is. Three quarters of the play is a fast paced comedy based on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is it, after all, that makes one person different from another? In the case of twins, where everything physical points to identity, how can we tell one person from the other? Some of the characters even begin to doubt their own identity. Dromio of Syracuse says, I am transformed, master, am not I? , and his master wonders, Am I in earth, in heaven, or in hell?/ Sleeping or waking, mad or well advis d?/ Known unto these, and to myself disguis d? (II.ii.195, 212 14). The play may also be taken as commenting seriously on the limits of human perception and understanding. Both in the last scene and earlier, the strange happenings raise the questions of magic and madness. Antipholus of Syracuse says he thinks Ephesus may be full of sorcerers or witches (I.ii.99; IV.iii.11; III.ii.156), and he wonders more than once if he has gone mad. Dromio of Syracuse thinks he is in fairy land (II.ii.189). The play reveals the limits of human understanding, not only through the mistakes made throughout the play, but also through the fumbling attempts to account for what is happening in the final scene. The Duke wonders if everyone is mated, or stark mad (V.i.282), and Antipholus of Syracuse wonders if he is dreaming (V.i.377). Adriana (wife of the other Antipholus) puts the matter most directly when she says that her husband s presence in two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Victorian Ghost Stories Nearly Always Encompass Family Victorian Ghost Stories nearly always encompass family life in some way or another. One reason for this may be to emphasize how abnormal a ghostly figure or hauntings really are within the story and get readers thinking, what would happen if that was happening to them? Making the stories feel more realistic to a Victorian readership. Family life within the era was held as one of the most important aspects of their day to day lives, therefore it is only natural for the theme of family to be present throughout many of the periods ghost stories and other genres. James argues that the rooting of a story in the common world of habits and timetables would aid the process of sympathetic identification between the reader and the haunted one. This rapport was one more of the genre s correlations, and the key to its power to frighten. The Old Nurse s Story does very well to stick to the genre s structure, and is written to a high standard, that makes the readers feel fear, suspense and hope, which are all key to grasping the reader s attention immersing them into the story and gaining the most out of it. Gaskell does this by building the plot up to an ultimate climax, where the characters fully interact with the supernatural beings, this build up is created by using the character s new heightened relationship and a new unfamiliar setting, leaving the reader unnerved and waiting for something to happen. Charles Dickens s also stated that The Old Nurse s Story was a very fine ghost story indeed. Nobly told, and wonderfully managed. Dickens was a highly popular Victorian author during his own time and within the modern literary world, his opinion on Gaskell s first ghost story shows just how much of a success it was. The themes of the short story allow for all of the right elements to come through, the strongest of these themes is the relationship Hester and Miss Rosamond share, although she is left ...
