Bdsm Psychopathology
Ivis Pereira
ENC1102
Professor Ivan Ruiz
July 7, 2015
The practice of BDSM is not a pathology, it is a pathway to pleasure.
The practice of bondage discipline, dominance submission, sadism masochism (BDSM) is heavily
associated with psychopathology. However, BDSM may be thought of as a recreational leisure, rather
than the expression of psychopathological processes. The essential structures of the BDSM experience
are discussed in terms of authentic concept, association with psychopathology, and how sex education
might diffuse stigma and warn of the risks of this life style. Sexuality, in all its forms, is incredibly
variable so much so that we might do better to consider that incredible variability the norm. Our
genes, our environments, our experiences these things are what make us individuals, with slightly
different behaviors, emotions, desires and erotic fingerprints. Like many, many other sexual behaviors,
BDSM is part of a normative sexual experience that feels healthy and enjoyable to many people, says
Herbenick. This is something that is consensual and involves a good deal of communication, which
are both things that are important to any pleasurable experience.
BDSM is a sexual practice characterized by suppression, physical restriction, practicing role playing
games, power exchange, and sometimes even the administration of pain. BDSM is an acronym for
bondage discipline, dominance submission, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Should The Government Surveillance Of Internet Privacy
The internet is a vast global interconnected network enabling numerous people to access countless
information and communicate with others miles away. When browsing the web nowadays, however,
many forget what’s really happening behind the scenes. Internet cookies and complex algorithms
are being downloaded behind your back allowing big brand companies and even the federal
government to track what the people are doing. This is a major violation to our right to privacy which
is implied in the Constitution. On the other hand, it’s understandable for the government to have a
substantial amount of surveillance of the internet to monitor terrorists and people seeking to cause
harm, but the extent the US government controls over the web is absurdly large and unnecessary.
Overall, surveillance and order must be maintained throughout the internet to deter fanatics intending
to cause harm, but the United States government have increased their range so wide it has ... Show

Edward Snowden, a major whistleblower over the NSA’s activities, mentions how millions of
emails, phone calls, and private messages have been tapped into the past recent years. He even
mentions in a vice interview, “ The CIA, FBI, NSA can get into any piece of technology inside
your household”(Smith). This is quite shocking and terrifying to numerous people who didn’t
know how intrusive the government is. However, the NSA themselves say that they’re regulated
and abide the rules set by the Executive Branch, Department of Defense, the FCC, and many more
officials and courts. “According to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, all of this

government place limitations on these activities. Civil liberties group fear this behavior and encourage

Unity And Conflict In Canada
Canada
In lots of ways unity and conflict were themes in Canada. Conflict in Canada was showed largely in
the rebellion and French and Indian War. The French speakers in lower Canada were lead into
rebellion by Papineau and the English speakers in upper Canada by Mackinzie. The French and Indian
War was a war between longtime rivals France and British in North America. It started at the Ohio
River Valley. The causes for the war were past rivalry, competition in fur trade, rival native allies, and
land disputes. The French and Indian War was called the 7 year war, it started in 1754. NAFTA and

The Great Gatsby Compared to The Sun Also Rises
Fitzgerald s novel presents postwar period from completely different point of view he shows the
power and uselessness of money. As we know, people of the lost generation were not the happiest and
had quite careless lifestyles. In this novel, even though characters are not poor, still, the only meaning
of life they have left is wild and free lifestyle and love. Author also did not leave out the meaningless
relationships to the society and conventions.
One of the main characters, Jay Gatsby, a mysterious, wealthy man living in luxurious mansion in
Long Island, throwing parties almost every weekend for people he doesn t even know This is an
unusual party for me. I haven t even seen the host. sais one of the quest to Gatsby, the host. Gatsby is a
perfect example of careless lifestyle. But these parties are actually just a way, he puts up with his
unfulfilled love for Daisy, who got married for a wealthy man during Gatsby s military service.
The narrator, Nick, presents the story without subjective feelings, informs without influencing the
reader and also leaves him a space for imagination. For example, he hears many different rumors
about Gatsby s origin of his wealth and he does not make any conclusion, he let you decide what you
believe is true.
Another important character of the novel is Daisy, Nick s cousin. She is obsessed with money, which
is a reason, why she did not married her love, Gatsby, when he was poor military man. After years,

Introduction
Diabetes Mellitus affects 29.1 million people in the United States of America. According to the center
for disease control and prevention (2014), minorities have higher rates of disability and death due to
diabetes mellitus. Traditional diabetes educational programs have not proven very effective to
Nigerian Immigrants in assessing knowledge and attitudes surrounding diabetes mellitus. Culture
Centered Educational Programs are more effective in improving metabolic control, (American
Diabetes Association, 2014). This paper will assess the need for America to develop a Culture
Centered Educational Program for Nigerian Immigrants to Assess Knowledge and Attitudes
Surrounding Diabetes Mellitus.
Literature review
Diabetes Mellitus affects 29.1 million in the United States of America alone. Complications due to
diabetes mellitus are a significant measure of costs of healthcare and estimated to be 249 billion
dollars annually, (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Health problems secondary to

The Human Diet And Its Effect On Our Society
The human diet is shaped in evolution. We spent millions of years in a foraging lifestyle and our
genome still expects us to eat this way (Gluckman et al., 2016). But recently we have adopted a new
post industrial lifestyle that seems to go against our genetic makeup because there is an increasing
trend of metabolic diseases in our society. We noticed this trend decades ago and have been trying to
explain it. In 1962, geneticist James Neel proposed the thrifty gene hypothesis, saying that some of
our ancient ancestors with a gene variant that allowed them to store calories as fat prevailed because it
gave a survival edge during times of famine (Johnson and Andrews, 2015). That is a great advantage
during Paleolithic times when food could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Medical professionals, manufacturers, and consumers are all aware of the negative impacts of added
sugar. So instead of curtailing a sugar addiction, scientists and manufactures created a healthy
alternative: artificial sweeteners. But artificial sweeteners are not a healthy alternative because they
too negatively impact metabolic health.
Artificial sweeteners are known by many different names: low calorie sweeteners (LCS), low and non
calorie sweeteners (LNCS), non nutritive sweeteners (NNS), and non caloric artificial sweeteners
(NAS) (Riobó Serván, Sierra Poyatos, Soldo Rodríguez, 2014). They can be divided into two groups:
nutritive sweeteners, which add some energy value (calories) and non nutritive sweeteners, which are
intensely sweet and add no energy value (Neacsu and Madar, 2014). The Federal Drug Administration
(FDA) has approved five artificial sweeteners safe for human consumption and they are: acesulfame,
aspartame, neotame, saccharin, and sucralose (Ludwig, 2011). These sweeteners are found in
thousands of products on the market, from foods and drinks to toothpastes and medicines. The
sweeteners are used as sugar substitutes because they are so intensely sweet that concentrations low
enough do not increase caloric content, but still provide the desired

Themes InThe Rememberer And Jealous Husband Return In Form...
Many stories have similar themes, The Rememberer by Aimee Bender and Jealous Husband Returns
in Form of Parrot by Robert Olen Butler are two short stories that do. In The Rememberer, Ben is
going through reverse evolution and Annie and Ben both do not know why. It is implied that Ben
remembers Annie, but not completely specified. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the
husband falls out of a tree trying to catch his wife in the act of cheating and gets reincarnated into a
parrot. He remembers her, but she does not know it is him and ends up choosing and purchasing him
from the pet store, putting him back into his own home. Both stories have ironic tendencies and share
a similar theme, but have different meanings. Throughout both stories, the characters are facing
internal conflicts. In The Rememberer, Annie is dealing with Ben going through reverse evolution.
She does not know why he is going through it or what to do about it, which results in her battling
herself in her own mind. She cannot tell anyone what is going on because nobody would believe her,
she is stuck telling people that he has a strange sickness and is forced to keep it all inside. In Jealous
Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband is dealing with the internal conflict of being
purchased by his wife and brought back into his home where now he is stuck seeing his wife with
other men. The conflict comes in to play with the husband because he does not have the vocabulary as
a parrot to tell her that it is him. Throughout the two stories, the men are both, somehow, turned into
animals.
They both may have turned into animals, in one way or another, but those ways are different. In The
Rememberer, Ben first turns into an ape, but then turns into a sea turtle, just to turn into a salamander.
Whereas, in Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the only animal he is turned into is a parrot.
Another difference between the two circumstances is, Ben is going through reverse evolution, so he is
turning into many different animals, and the husband went through reincarnation after he fell out of
the tree, so he will not change forms. Although, in The Rememberer, both Annie and Ben know that he
is still

The Demographic Transition Theory
Unlike society a few decades before, the life expectancy has increased and now America is seeing an
exponential growth to the elderly population. There are many factors that could be the cause of this.
Looking at the demographic transition theory in conjunction with the Malthusian theory brought
valuable insight for me. The demographic theory says there are four stages to population growth that
are predictable. Those who are in their late 80 s and above were capable of seeing all four of these
stages in America. As they aged and the stages for population advanced so did technology. Malthusian
theory claims that there are three factors that prevents the human population exceed its carrying
capacity, which are food, disease, and war. Those who lived through the four stages of America were
lucky enough to see technology advance to prevent those factors in being lethal to our population. It
became possible for adults to live on to see their grandchildren and eventually their great
grandchildren. However, having life for so long isn t always the best. There s a quote from the movie
The Dark Knight which I believe applies to this situation, You either die a hero or live long enough to
see yourself become the villain. . This quote is evident in the film Living Old , because eventually you
reach an age where your body and mind regresses, which hurts your love ones. For example, in the
film Mary Ann DiBerardino daughter of Chester and Rosemary Haak has suffered seeing her parents

Definition Essay On Positivity
Who Am I? I m in 7.125 billion of you, humans, I m a spirit inside of you. I normally don t want to
hurt you, but I have to or else I ll die. I m only active in 350 million people in counting and it s not
fun. They didn t choose this life I chose it for them with your help of course. Together we caused those
350 million people to hurt themselves and others, and make them feel like a waste of space. Some
humans think that I am switch that other humans can turn on and off. It s not, the only way to get rid
of me is to get treatment and surround yourselves with positivity. Positivity is the only way to get rid
of me. I only come when you let my thoughts into yours, when you re done with everything, when you

The answer is simple, they forgot about her, now it sounds sad, but it s true, she d run and stay with
Bakers for weeks and months at a time, and her parents never notice, they were too self absorbed.
Now Kathleen and Vincent heard about a group called the Flames, a group of Lighters and thought,
we ll make a group of Celebrities, to fight back . The named their group of 100 the Socialites. They
aren t very organized, all the members , more like servants, just take orders from Vincent and
Kathleen, and most of the time Kathleen and Vincent can t decide on what the order is and wound up
bickering. The Socialites may be unorganized, but they do know how to fight. By now the Flames
have killed over half of the Celebrity population all they have left is the Socialites and a few outliers.
The other outliers should be easy to take out, it s the Socialites that I m concern about. Kathleen and
Vincent have no idea that Astrid runs the Flames, but Astrid knows her parents run the Socialites.
Also, the Socialites aren t that organized, but they re very skilled with weapons and they all want to
defeat the Flames. They ll ban together somehow, just to defeat the Flames. If you are wondering why
they have to defeat the Socialites, it s because defeating them will take the fear and hold the Socialites

Kant, The Rallying Call For Kant s Enlightenment
Sapere aude! is the rallying call for Kant s enlightenment. Translated, it roughly means dare to be
wise. Plato, through the voice of Socrates in the dialogues The Euthyphro and The Crito, demonstrates
the ultimate example of Kant s definition of enlightenment. Socrates fearlessly dares to be wise.
In 1784, Immanuel Kant wrote a groundbreaking essay addressing a question posed by Reverend
Johann Zollner. The essay was entitled What is Enlightenment . Within this essay, Kant defines what
enlightenment. Kant gives a very basic answer to the question what is enlightenment? in the very first
sentence of the essay. Kant very directly states, Enlightenment is man s release from his self incurred
tutelage (Kant, 1). This means that man prevents themselves from reaching enlightenment by allowing
themselves to stay in a state of immature tutelage or intellectual dependence on others. Kant continued
to explain how easy it truly is to remain in tutelage. Kant expressed If I have a book, which
understands for me, a pastor who has a conscience for me, a physician who decides my diet, and so
forth, I need not trouble myself. I need not think... (Kant, 1) It is once a person liberates themselves
from the bonds of immaturity and begins to make their own judgments and conjure up their own ideas
that a person is actually enlightened. Not only does Kant explain what it means to be enlightened, but
Kant describes all the different requirements for enlightenment to be achieved. This

Housing In Floria Essay
Introduction Florida is a bellwether state for the U.S. in that trends that occur in Florida tend to be
experienced by the United States as a whole. Florida has pushed through some major events such as
the Florida Housing Boom in the early 2000 s, the recession in the mid 2000 s, and the long but steady
recovery phase towards the end of the 2000 s and modern times. This trend in housing occured
throughout the United States and was a key feature of the Great Recession. It is possible to better
understand housing trends and economic effects by focusing on a particular example of housing in
Florida. In addition to the direct relationship between prices and demand for condominiums in Florida,
there is also a direct correlation of how events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once prices fell below the Q1 2003 price actually dipped below the Q1 2003 prices and finally
bottomed in 2012 at $181 dollars. These prices fell enough below a reasonable market value that it
started make financial sense that owners could start investing in these condos again. From this point
onwards there is a clear and consistent rise in price from Q1 of 2013 to Q4 of 2016. This increase in
price is linear in nature as opposed to the exponential growth of Q3 and Q4 of 2004, and therefore
appears sustainable.
Changes in Economy in Relation to Price and Sales
With the beginning of the collapse of the housing boom in 2006, Florida slipped into approximately
six years of nearly flat or negative growth within its economy. The dramatic decrease in condo prices
anticipated the overall housing boom by a year and a half to two years. This makes sense because
housing is a necessity, but luxury items such as condos are the first to go in economic crisis. The job
and consumption growth slowed down as consumers saw rising debt payments on the record debt
build up in the previous years. As a result, the debt squeeze left less money available for key
household expenditures and housing in general and pushed many families over the edge with rising
loan defaults and foreclosures.
Home appreciations started to

The, Tan Skin, And Expensive Cloths
Defined muscles, tan skin, and expensive cloths. These are the typical values of someone from Jersey
shore, yet they do not represent the state of New Jersey and most American would say there are more
important things in life. But looking at the whole country there would be a consensus that the cultural
values is roughly the same. That professional baseball players are fiscally worth more than teachers
and money is the second most important thing next to food. These values may take a different priority
in a different country. Social norms and media are in every society; therefore it is important to
understand what the concepts are and how they pertain to our lives today.
A social construction is an idea that is perpetuated and given meaning by the people who believe in
and propagate the idea. Social constructs that are not founded by science are given sole meaning from
their creators and as such can change the meaning situationally. Over time the ideas can grow to
define a culture or eventually die out, all directly due to the amount of support each receives. An
example of a social construction would be currency and race. Currency for example takes on different
forms in physical appearance, from gold to paper, and different names between different countries,
from the Japanese yen to the Mexican peso, yet each can be exchanged for one another in comparable
amounts. The global market says what each is worth and as such, we the consumers, believe it to be

Courage Vs Moral Courage
We find it easier, in these confused times, to admire physical bravery than moral courage the courage
of the life of the mind, or of public figures. ( Salmon Rushdie, 2013 ) The question we all need to
answer or ask is, do we or do we not? I strongly believe this is true, because we as people of these
times don t want to hear about politicians, we like to hear and learn about people being brave, and
saving others from harmful events that happens in everyday life. There are no Gandhis, no Lincolns
anymore. One man s hero ( Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro) is another s villain. We no longer easily agree
on what it means to be good, or principled, or brave. ( Salmon Rushdie, 2013 ) My three main reasons
for believing this is true is Some Profiles of Courage by Shane Lopez , a video called Physical
Courage v.s. Moral Courage 755 x 5 Squat , and my current event on Hurricane Harvey. From ancient
to present times, this disposition to act appropriately in situations involving fear and confidence in the
face of physical danger seems to be universally valued. ( Shane Lopez, P. 5 ) This is saying that when
people show physical bravery they are valued worldwide by everyone who knows what they done.
Shane Lopez tells us all the categories of courage, but physical courage/bravery is seen as more
courageous than moral courage. People these days don t care about a politician standing up for his
beliefs, but what we do want to hear about is a man in a cowboy hat that vaults

Lack Of Communication In The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross
When both involved do not effectively communicate with each other, a distant marriage may lead to
discontent for all. Sinclair Ross s short story, The Painted Door , deals with the growing dissatisfaction
and loneliness of a farmer s wife, Ann, who feels alone as her husband deals with the harsh conditions
of the environment. This story demonstrates how deeply communication can affect a marriage, be it
bad or good. One of the most fundamental elements of a healthy relationship is communication. Lack
of communication in a relationship can result to severe consequences. Irrespective of the kind of
relationship, lack of communication magnifies issues in a relationship undermining the very
foundation of the relationship. The success of any relationship relies on one s ability to communicate
well. Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share our interest, concerns,
support each other. John is a simple farmer who thinks the only way he can please his wife, is by
working all day to earn money for her. However, Ann would prefer he spend more time with her. Their
relationship is stressed even further when Ann is left at home alone with nothing to think about but
their relationship because John has to go to his father s house. The terrible snow storm accentuates
Ann s feelings of loneliness and despair. These feelings lead Ann to seek comfort and companionship
from Steven, the attractive friend of her husband, John, thus leading to John s suicide.

dangerous place, where violence occurs, but people neglect the beauty and happiness that surrounds it
too. Meanwhile, when people think of Manhattan, they see it as the heart of New York where everyone

that is not just because it is on an island.

hospitals in Detroit, Michigan. For a patient with repeated episodes of Infective Endocarditis, one
episode was only included at our institutions. Clinical, microbiological, and echocardiographic data of
all patients with definite IE were collected using a standard data collection form.
Analysis of Data
Analysis of data was conducted using the SPSS software system version 22. In table 1, bivariate
analysis was used to compare IE patients who died during admission versus those who survived to
hospital discharge.
Continuous variables were expressed as means ± standard deviation (SD) and binary regression
analysis was used to examine the associations between a continuous variable and a categorical
variable with two categories. Categorical variables were presented numbers (percentage) and the
association between them analyzed using The Chi square test. Variables that achieved a P value less
than 0.10 in the bivariable analysis were included in the multivariable logistic regression model to
adjust the effects of any possible confounding variable. The independent predictors of the mortality
were selected using a backward stepwise.

Taking a Look at Cataracts
1.0 Introduction
This paper will explore the visual disorder, cataract, by providing a definition of this condition and
discussing the incidence and prevalence of this condition in Australia, India and Germany. It will also
explore the treatment and prevention strategies as well as roles of two health professionals in
providing these strategies.
It is estimated over 285 million people worldwide are visually impaired with one of the major causes
being cataract at 33% (figure 1A)(Pascolini Mariotti, 2012). Cataract is considered to be the leading
cause of blindness (51%) in the world (figure 1B) (Pascolini Mariotti, 2012). (ref 1) According to
Khanna, Lindfield, Ngounou, and Vishwanath (2012), 90% of cataract blindness occurs in low and
middle income countries.

2.0 Definition of cataract
World Health Organization (n.d.) defines cataract as the clouding of the lens of the eyes, which
prevents clear vision. Although most cases are related to the ageing process, occasionally children can
be born with the condition, or a cataract may develop after eye injuries, inflammation, and some other
eye diseases (WHO, n.d.).
With the increasing ageing population around the world, it has become a major public health concern
with the number of cataract cases increasing at the same rate (Mukesh, Le, Dimitrov and Ahmed,
2006).(ref 2)

Examining The ChrysanthemumS The Lottery
Examining The Chrysanthemums The Lottery
In the WWII period, women entered the workforce is massive numbers a statistical anomaly that had
never existed in American society or hardly any other modern society, ever. They became empowered
and more women realized a wider range of their capabilities. A few decades after WWII, the feminist
movement would rise to change the course of women s history again. The success and fervor of the
feminist movement would not have been as potent or active without the change in experience for
women in the preceding decades. It is within some of these social and historical contexts which the
paper will consider the protagonist, Elisa Allen. The Chrysanthemums precedes WWII and the
beginning of another change in the culture of women by just a few years. Elisa Allen is a figure for the
foreshadowing of the future of American women. The paper considers how Steinbeck demonstrates
her spatial and metaphorical confinement via literary structures, characterization, and narrative arc.
The environment is a revealing metaphor or symbol in the story. It is sometimes a prominent aspect,
and sometimes subtle. Just as the fog rolled in during the winter of a nearly desolate ranch, so does a
storm or a fog of change approach for Elisa, as a figure for American women as the midway point of
the 20th century approached.
John Steinbeck s famed short story, The Chrysanthemums, was published in Harper s

Photography And Its Impact On Photography
Photography is an art that has been around for over a century. Throughout the years, photography has
grown rapidly. It is now very popular throughout the world. There are hundreds of careers and jobs in
photography. It is also a growing hobby, and for some people, it is their life. As time goes on, it will
just grow in it s popularity. Photography is a method of recording images by the action of light on a
sensitive material. So basically, it is capturing images with a camera. This is a wonderful process that
thousands of people use every day, whether it s to make money or just to have fun.
The history of photography is very complex. It was not necessarily just one thing, or one person, that
made it all. Instead, it took a series of people, throughout time, to develop and form photography into
what it is today. Even today, (and)it s still growing. The very first photograph was produced by Joseph
Nicephore Niepce. It s called, View from the Window at Le Gras. Of course it was black and white, as
all pictures originally were. In 1827, Joseph Nicephore Niepce produced this image using a camera
obscura, which was one of the very first cameras. Before Niepce figured this out, people just used the
camera obscura for viewing or drawing purposes, not for taking photographs. Louis Daguerre is
another important person in photography s history. In 1829, he began a partnership with Niepce, and
together they further developed photography even more. After Niepce died, Daguerre developed

Theories Of Scientific Management Theory And Human...
Executive Summary
The National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) of India defined human resource
management as that part of management which is concerned with people at work and with their
relationship within an enterprise. Its aim is to bring together and develop into an effective organization
of the men and women who make up an enterprise and having regard for the well being of the
individuals and of working groups, to enable them to make their best contribution to its success.
Human resource management always seeks the best theory to fulfill their intent in managing the
human resource. Some of the famous theories are scientific management theory and behavioral
management theory.
Scientific management theory is the starting point where people start to think scientifically. They do
not only depend on common habitual without considering it is efficient or not anymore. They start to
think effectively in enhancing productivity. Scientific management theory proposed some way in order

But it will be a great combination if both of them are put into the society. It is because both of them
are completing each other. We cannot deny the fact that organization needs the most effective and
efficient way to accomplish the most profitable goal. But in another side, we should consider too that
it is not only about the number and quantitative things. We need something that we called qualitative
thing which can support the quantitative thing. We cannot ignore that the satisfaction of employee can
affect the productivity. That is why, scientific management theory and behavioral management should
be mixing in order to get the primary point of Human Resource Management itself, namely
effectiveness, development of human resources, the organizational s goals, and satisfaction of
employee in giving best contribute to organization s

Gender Codes In Advertising Have Hugely Impacted My Own
Gender codes in advertising have hugely impacted my own views and how I currently interact with
friends, families, and even strangers that I see walking around on the streets. It is pointed out by Sut
Jhally (2009) that the reason for this being, masculinity and femininity are strongly portrayed in
advertisements as two completely opposite things. In most ads, men are shown as strong human
beings with complete control of whatever problems may arise to them whereas women are shown the
complete opposite. Their bodies are usually in positions that suggest that they re being controlled by
men and are completely dependant on them not being able to face troubles that may arise (Jhally,
2009). This expectation of what masculinity is, is shown all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Advertisements not only change your perspective of others but in fact changes theirs as well towards
you. When advertisements show men, they depict them as strong, action ready, emotionless characters
that are muscular and almost like animals as shown in The Codes of Gender: Identity and Performance
in Pop Culture. This sets a standard for other men to fit into and not doing so has dire consequences.
When walking around and interacting with new people, I automatically try to fit into these criteria that
the advertisements have created to define masculinity because if I don t then I feel like they judge me
based on what ideologies they ve been brought up with, which is mostly like the same advertisements
that separates masculinity and femininity completely. I believe this has been encoded to us so
thoroughly that if you don t succumb to his categorization then you re not as approachable compared
to someone who is.
Women are also sexualized in a majority of advertisements which consequentially alters the thoughts
of men around us into having certain expectations for them. Goffman (2009) argues that women are
often shown lying down in vulnerable sexually available positions, and even biting on their lips and
pulling on their skirts in advertisements. Personally, I have seen this effect my friends because as men
they ve fallen into this trap of the ritualization of subordination women. When we re in school
together walking down the hallways they always judge

Balzac And The Chinese Little Seamstress Analysis
In Balzac and The Chinese Little Seamstress, a historical fiction by Dai Sijie, the Little Seamstress is
transformed as Luo and the narrator tell the stories of the French books. Before she leaves, the Little
Seamstress first alters the Mao jacket for herself and asks her father to buy a pair of white tennis shoes
in Yong Jing. At the end, she even changes her hairstyle to be like a city girl. She says, a woman s
beauty is a treasure beyond price. (178) . By this statement, she means that people can be judged by
their physical appearances. I totally disagree with the Little Seamstress statement. People should never
be judged by their looks. My idea mainly comes from my experiences and what I see in media. You
know what, nobody is perfect in this world, and beauty is abstract. Beauty standards differ across
cultures and from time to time, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people usually say we need to care about personality more than the looks, and they end up
loving pop stars and actors. People can t be more wrong! Don t fall in the trap of companies! The
companies shape the idea of typical beauty to make money out of it. One Direction, a British band, is
a good example. All the members of One Direction are good looking, so that many teenagers spend
money on their concerts and goods. And that s exactly what the companies want making money. But I
wanna tell you something. We are more than our looks! Okay, let s think about Susan Boyle. We all
know who she is. When she introduces herself in Britains Got Talent [2], a Britain TV show, the
judges and the audience disdain her only by her looks. But she doesn t care what people think about
her. When she starts to sing the song, the judges reactions are full of respect. And now, she is one of
the most famous singers in the world. Really, we can t judge others by their looks. We should stop this
trend! Don t be fooled by those

Art and Empathy
Kenny Smith
April 20th, 2003
The role of men in society has been a vital. Men were subjected to the same inhumane and horrifying
events that happened during the Holocaust. When one thinks of a man, you think of father, solider and
other manly things. A great deal of pride comes along with being and man. Along with pride,
testosterone, intensity, and all sorts of other factors key into the characteristics of men. However, the
Holocaust completely stripped men of most of these characteristics. The Holocaust did not allow men
to be men. Holocaust art, the Tale of the Sprinter by Sudeep Pagedar, and Vladek Spiegelman in the
memoirs Maus by Art Spiegelman are examples of how men suffered during the Holocaust and the
amount of empathy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was one of the many nightmarish images of brutality in the book. The human body is stripped of
everything that makes it recognizably human, reduced to bones and fat. Even dead, the captive Jews
are not allowed the smallest dignity. In addition, Vladek shares stories about how they were treated
like animals. We lay on top of the other, like matches, like herrings. I pushed to a corner not to get
crushed ... High up I saw a few hooks to chain up maybe the animals (Spiegelman 75). Considered
racially inferior, the Jews were treated like animals. This is one of many scenes in the memoir where
Jews are held in structures or cars that were initially built for animals. Vladek has a very complex
personality because of his Holocaust experiences. Vladek Spiegelman is a disturbed, bitter old man
who is unwilling to talk about the things that made him the way he is. Through Vladek Spiegelman,
we are able to see how atrocity affected men during the Holocaust. Vladek s character traits evoke
empathy because he cannot be the man and father that he could have been because of this event. Art is
a way to express emotions and feelings. Holocaust art and literature are products of atrocities. Men in
literature and art are usually expressed as very bold figure. When you see a sculpture of a man, it is
usually a masculine figure with bold features. The Holocaust stripped men of their masculinity

The Presidency Of Richard Nixon
During the 1970s, under President Richard Nixon, the people felt the first serious inflation since after

government. The crises in the 1970s represented the first time in American history when the public
perceived their government had fail them and it did through mistrust in the government, foreign crises,
and a strong decline in the economy. Under the presidency of Richard Nixon, a wide spread of fear
within the public prevailed. From the reporters point of view many people working in the White

horrors they saw, and worked with. During the re election time of Nixon, his men would do anything

The Nature And Development Of False Memories
False memories attracted significant attention of psychologists during many decades. People usually
rely on the memories despite the fact that previous researches showed people could be unpredictably
inaccurate in the recollection of detailed facts (Wilson Ross, 2003).The subject of the false memories
and the aspects that lead to development of the false memory phenomena is very imperative topic to
study since almost every aspect of cognition such as problem solving, attention or perception relies on
memory to some extent. The quality of memory is also vital for some practical reasons, because many
important events influenced by reports from human witnesses. For instance, the procedure with
eyewitness testimonies in courts is still taking place although scientists have proven the power of
suggestive language can lead into memorising something that did not happen in reality (Loftus, 1975).
This point to the following question: Can we trust our memory? In order to response to this question,
this paper will evaluate the nature and development of false memories, its connection to the basic
memory processes, as well as practical impact of false memories. A collective review on all above
aspects will provide a comprehensive explanation of the question that this paper poses.
What is a false memory?
The phrase false memory could refer to an extensive range of small memory inaccuracies from
misremembered word lists to quite significant errors like incorrect details of dramatic life

  • 2. Bdsm Psychopathology Ivis Pereira ENC1102 Professor Ivan Ruiz July 7, 2015 The practice of BDSM is not a pathology, it is a pathway to pleasure. The practice of bondage discipline, dominance submission, sadism masochism (BDSM) is heavily associated with psychopathology. However, BDSM may be thought of as a recreational leisure, rather than the expression of psychopathological processes. The essential structures of the BDSM experience are discussed in terms of authentic concept, association with psychopathology, and how sex education might diffuse stigma and warn of the risks of this life style. Sexuality, in all its forms, is incredibly variable so much so that we might do better to consider that incredible variability the norm. Our genes, our environments, our experiences these things are what make us individuals, with slightly different behaviors, emotions, desires and erotic fingerprints. Like many, many other sexual behaviors, BDSM is part of a normative sexual experience that feels healthy and enjoyable to many people, says Herbenick. This is something that is consensual and involves a good deal of communication, which are both things that are important to any pleasurable experience. BDSM is a sexual practice characterized by suppression, physical restriction, practicing role playing games, power exchange, and sometimes even the administration of pain. Should The Government Surveillance Of Internet Privacy The internet is a vast global interconnected network enabling numerous people to access countless information and communicate with others miles away. When browsing the web nowadays, however, many forget what’s really happening behind the scenes. Internet cookies and complex algorithms are being downloaded behind your back allowing big brand companies and even the federal government to track what the people are doing. This is a major violation to our right to privacy which is implied in the Constitution. On the other hand, it’s understandable for the government to have a substantial amount of surveillance of the internet to monitor terrorists and people seeking to cause harm, but the extent the US government controls over the web is absurdly large and unnecessary. Overall, surveillance and order must be maintained throughout the internet to deter fanatics intending to cause harm, but the United States government have increased their range so wide it has ... • 8. The Human Diet And Its Effect On Our Society The human diet is shaped in evolution. We spent millions of years in a foraging lifestyle and our genome still expects us to eat this way (Gluckman et al., 2016). But recently we have adopted a new post industrial lifestyle that seems to go against our genetic makeup because there is an increasing trend of metabolic diseases in our society. We noticed this trend decades ago and have been trying to explain it. In 1962, geneticist James Neel proposed the thrifty gene hypothesis, saying that some of our ancient ancestors with a gene variant that allowed them to store calories as fat prevailed because it gave a survival edge during times of famine (Johnson and Andrews, 2015). That is a great advantage during Paleolithic times when food could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Medical professionals, manufacturers, and consumers are all aware of the negative impacts of added sugar. So instead of curtailing a sugar addiction, scientists and manufactures created a healthy alternative: artificial sweeteners. But artificial sweeteners are not a healthy alternative because they too negatively impact metabolic health. Artificial sweeteners are known by many different names: low calorie sweeteners (LCS), low and non calorie sweeteners (LNCS), non nutritive sweeteners (NNS), and non caloric artificial sweeteners (NAS) (Riobó Serván, Sierra Poyatos, Soldo Rodríguez, 2014). They can be divided into two groups: nutritive sweeteners, which add some energy value (calories) and non nutritive sweeteners, which are intensely sweet and add no energy value (Neacsu and Madar, 2014). The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has approved five artificial sweeteners safe for human consumption and they are: acesulfame, aspartame, neotame, saccharin, and sucralose (Ludwig, 2011). These sweeteners are found in thousands of products on the market, from foods and drinks to toothpastes and medicines. • 9. Themes InThe Rememberer And Jealous Husband Return In Form... Many stories have similar themes, The Rememberer by Aimee Bender and Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot by Robert Olen Butler are two short stories that do. In The Rememberer, Ben is going through reverse evolution and Annie and Ben both do not know why. It is implied that Ben remembers Annie, but not completely specified. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband falls out of a tree trying to catch his wife in the act of cheating and gets reincarnated into a parrot. He remembers her, but she does not know it is him and ends up choosing and purchasing him from the pet store, putting him back into his own home. Both stories have ironic tendencies and share a similar theme, but have different meanings. Throughout both stories, the characters are facing internal conflicts. In The Rememberer, Annie is dealing with Ben going through reverse evolution. She does not know why he is going through it or what to do about it, which results in her battling herself in her own mind. She cannot tell anyone what is going on because nobody would believe her, she is stuck telling people that he has a strange sickness and is forced to keep it all inside. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband is dealing with the internal conflict of being purchased by his wife and brought back into his home where now he is stuck seeing his wife with other men. The conflict comes in to play with the husband because he does not have the vocabulary as a parrot to tell her that it is him. Throughout the two stories, the men are both, somehow, turned into animals. They both may have turned into animals, in one way or another, but those ways are different. In The Rememberer, Ben first turns into an ape, but then turns into a sea turtle, just to turn into a salamander. Whereas, in Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the only animal he is turned into is a parrot. Another difference between the two circumstances is, Ben is going through reverse evolution, so he is turning into many different animals, and the husband went through reincarnation after he fell out of the tree, so he will not change forms. Although, in The Rememberer, both Annie and Ben know that he is still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Demographic Transition Theory Unlike society a few decades before, the life expectancy has increased and now America is seeing an exponential growth to the elderly population. There are many factors that could be the cause of this. Looking at the demographic transition theory in conjunction with the Malthusian theory brought valuable insight for me. The demographic theory says there are four stages to population growth that are predictable. Those who are in their late 80 s and above were capable of seeing all four of these stages in America. As they aged and the stages for population advanced so did technology. Malthusian theory claims that there are three factors that prevents the human population exceed its carrying capacity, which are food, disease, and war. Those who lived through the four stages of America were lucky enough to see technology advance to prevent those factors in being lethal to our population. It became possible for adults to live on to see their grandchildren and eventually their great grandchildren. However, having life for so long isn t always the best. There s a quote from the movie The Dark Knight which I believe applies to this situation, You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. . This quote is evident in the film Living Old , because eventually you reach an age where your body and mind regresses, which hurts your love ones. For example, in the film Mary Ann DiBerardino daughter of Chester and Rosemary Haak has suffered seeing her parents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Kant, The Rallying Call For Kant s Enlightenment Sapere aude! is the rallying call for Kant s enlightenment. Translated, it roughly means dare to be wise. Plato, through the voice of Socrates in the dialogues The Euthyphro and The Crito, demonstrates the ultimate example of Kant s definition of enlightenment. Socrates fearlessly dares to be wise. In 1784, Immanuel Kant wrote a groundbreaking essay addressing a question posed by Reverend Johann Zollner. The essay was entitled What is Enlightenment . Within this essay, Kant defines what enlightenment. Kant gives a very basic answer to the question what is enlightenment? in the very first sentence of the essay. Kant very directly states, Enlightenment is man s release from his self incurred tutelage (Kant, 1). This means that man prevents themselves from reaching enlightenment by allowing themselves to stay in a state of immature tutelage or intellectual dependence on others. Kant continued to explain how easy it truly is to remain in tutelage. Kant expressed If I have a book, which understands for me, a pastor who has a conscience for me, a physician who decides my diet, and so forth, I need not trouble myself. I need not think... (Kant, 1) It is once a person liberates themselves from the bonds of immaturity and begins to make their own judgments and conjure up their own ideas that a person is actually enlightened. Not only does Kant explain what it means to be enlightened, but Kant describes all the different requirements for enlightenment to be achieved. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Housing In Floria Essay Introduction Florida is a bellwether state for the U.S. in that trends that occur in Florida tend to be experienced by the United States as a whole. Florida has pushed through some major events such as the Florida Housing Boom in the early 2000 s, the recession in the mid 2000 s, and the long but steady recovery phase towards the end of the 2000 s and modern times. This trend in housing occured throughout the United States and was a key feature of the Great Recession. It is possible to better understand housing trends and economic effects by focusing on a particular example of housing in Florida. In addition to the direct relationship between prices and demand for condominiums in Florida, there is also a direct correlation of how events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once prices fell below the Q1 2003 price actually dipped below the Q1 2003 prices and finally bottomed in 2012 at $181 dollars. These prices fell enough below a reasonable market value that it started make financial sense that owners could start investing in these condos again. From this point onwards there is a clear and consistent rise in price from Q1 of 2013 to Q4 of 2016. This increase in price is linear in nature as opposed to the exponential growth of Q3 and Q4 of 2004, and therefore appears sustainable. Changes in Economy in Relation to Price and Sales With the beginning of the collapse of the housing boom in 2006, Florida slipped into approximately six years of nearly flat or negative growth within its economy. The dramatic decrease in condo prices anticipated the overall housing boom by a year and a half to two years. This makes sense because housing is a necessity, but luxury items such as condos are the first to go in economic crisis. The job and consumption growth slowed down as consumers saw rising debt payments on the record debt build up in the previous years. As a result, the debt squeeze left less money available for key household expenditures and housing in general and pushed many families over the edge with rising loan defaults and foreclosures. These are the typical values of someone from Jersey shore, yet they do not represent the state of New Jersey and most American would say there are more important things in life. But looking at the whole country there would be a consensus that the cultural values is roughly the same. That professional baseball players are fiscally worth more than teachers and money is the second most important thing next to food. These values may take a different priority in a different country. Social norms and media are in every society; therefore it is important to understand what the concepts are and how they pertain to our lives today. A social construction is an idea that is perpetuated and given meaning by the people who believe in and propagate the idea. Social constructs that are not founded by science are given sole meaning from their creators and as such can change the meaning situationally. Over time the ideas can grow to define a culture or eventually die out, all directly due to the amount of support each receives. An example of a social construction would be currency and race. Currency for example takes on different forms in physical appearance, from gold to paper, and different names between different countries, from the Japanese yen to the Mexican peso, yet each can be exchanged for one another in comparable amounts. The global market says what each is worth and as such, we the consumers, believe it to be true and act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

( Salmon Rushdie, 2013 ) The question we all need to answer or ask is, do we or do we not? I strongly believe this is true, because we as people of these times don t want to hear about politicians, we like to hear and learn about people being brave, and saving others from harmful events that happens in everyday life. There are no Gandhis, no Lincolns anymore. One man s hero ( Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro) is another s villain. We no longer easily agree on what it means to be good, or principled, or brave. ( Salmon Rushdie, 2013 ) My three main reasons for believing this is true is Some Profiles of Courage by Shane Lopez , a video called Physical Courage v.s. Moral Courage 755 x 5 Squat , and my current event on Hurricane Harvey. From ancient to present times, this disposition to act appropriately in situations involving fear and confidence in the face of physical danger seems to be universally valued. ( Shane Lopez, P. 5 ) This is saying that when people show physical bravery they are valued worldwide by everyone who knows what they done. Shane Lopez tells us all the categories of courage, but physical courage/bravery is seen as more courageous than moral courage. People these days don t care about a politician standing up for his beliefs, but what we do want to hear about is a man in a cowboy hat that vaults ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Lack Of Communication In The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross When both involved do not effectively communicate with each other, a distant marriage may lead to discontent for all. Sinclair Ross s short story, The Painted Door , deals with the growing dissatisfaction and loneliness of a farmer s wife, Ann, who feels alone as her husband deals with the harsh conditions of the environment. This story demonstrates how deeply communication can affect a marriage, be it bad or good. One of the most fundamental elements of a healthy relationship is communication. Lack of communication in a relationship can result to severe consequences. Irrespective of the kind of relationship, lack of communication magnifies issues in a relationship undermining the very foundation of the relationship. The success of any relationship relies on one s ability to communicate well. Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share our interest, concerns, support each other. John is a simple farmer who thinks the only way he can please his wife, is by working all day to earn money for her. However, Ann would prefer he spend more time with her. Their relationship is stressed even further when Ann is left at home alone with nothing to think about but their relationship because John has to go to his father s house. The terrible snow storm accentuates Ann s feelings of loneliness and despair. These feelings lead Ann to seek comfort and companionship from Steven, the attractive friend of her husband, John, thus leading to John s suicide. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examining The ChrysanthemumS The Lottery Examining The Chrysanthemums The Lottery In the WWII period, women entered the workforce is massive numbers a statistical anomaly that had never existed in American society or hardly any other modern society, ever. They became empowered and more women realized a wider range of their capabilities. A few decades after WWII, the feminist movement would rise to change the course of women s history again. The success and fervor of the feminist movement would not have been as potent or active without the change in experience for women in the preceding decades. It is within some of these social and historical contexts which the paper will consider the protagonist, Elisa Allen. The Chrysanthemums precedes WWII and the beginning of another change in the culture of women by just a few years. Elisa Allen is a figure for the foreshadowing of the future of American women. The paper considers how Steinbeck demonstrates her spatial and metaphorical confinement via literary structures, characterization, and narrative arc. The environment is a revealing metaphor or symbol in the story. It is sometimes a prominent aspect, and sometimes subtle. Just as the fog rolled in during the winter of a nearly desolate ranch, so does a storm or a fog of change approach for Elisa, as a figure for American women as the midway point of the 20th century approached. • 25. Photography And Its Impact On Photography Photography is an art that has been around for over a century. Throughout the years, photography has grown rapidly. It is now very popular throughout the world. There are hundreds of careers and jobs in photography. It is also a growing hobby, and for some people, it is their life. As time goes on, it will just grow in it s popularity. Photography is a method of recording images by the action of light on a sensitive material. So basically, it is capturing images with a camera. This is a wonderful process that thousands of people use every day, whether it s to make money or just to have fun. The history of photography is very complex. It was not necessarily just one thing, or one person, that made it all. Instead, it took a series of people, throughout time, to develop and form photography into what it is today. Even today, (and)it s still growing. The very first photograph was produced by Joseph Nicephore Niepce. It s called, View from the Window at Le Gras. Of course it was black and white, as all pictures originally were. In 1827, Joseph Nicephore Niepce produced this image using a camera obscura, which was one of the very first cameras. Before Niepce figured this out, people just used the camera obscura for viewing or drawing purposes, not for taking photographs. Louis Daguerre is another important person in photography s history. Gender Codes In Advertising Have Hugely Impacted My Own Gender codes in advertising have hugely impacted my own views and how I currently interact with friends, families, and even strangers that I see walking around on the streets. It is pointed out by Sut Jhally (2009) that the reason for this being, masculinity and femininity are strongly portrayed in advertisements as two completely opposite things. In most ads, men are shown as strong human beings with complete control of whatever problems may arise to them whereas women are shown the complete opposite. Their bodies are usually in positions that suggest that they re being controlled by men and are completely dependant on them not being able to face troubles that may arise (Jhally, 2009). Advertisements not only change your perspective of others but in fact changes theirs as well towards you. When advertisements show men, they depict them as strong, action ready, emotionless characters that are muscular and almost like animals as shown in The Codes of Gender: Identity and Performance in Pop Culture. This sets a standard for other men to fit into and not doing so has dire consequences. When walking around and interacting with new people, I automatically try to fit into these criteria that the advertisements have created to define masculinity because if I don t then I feel like they judge me based on what ideologies they ve been brought up with, which is mostly like the same advertisements that separates masculinity and femininity completely. I believe this has been encoded to us so thoroughly that if you don t succumb to his categorization then you re not as approachable compared to someone who is. Women are also sexualized in a majority of advertisements which consequentially alters the thoughts of men around us into having certain expectations for them. Goffman (2009) argues that women are often shown lying down in vulnerable sexually available positions, and even biting on their lips and pulling on their skirts in advertisements. Personally, I have seen this effect my friends because as men they ve fallen into this trap of the ritualization of subordination women. At the end, she even changes her hairstyle to be like a city girl. She says, a woman s beauty is a treasure beyond price. (178) . By this statement, she means that people can be judged by their physical appearances. I totally disagree with the Little Seamstress statement. People should never be judged by their looks. People usually rely on the memories despite the fact that previous researches showed people could be unpredictably inaccurate in the recollection of detailed facts (Wilson Ross, 2003).The subject of the false memories and the aspects that lead to development of the false memory phenomena is very imperative topic to study since almost every aspect of cognition such as problem solving, attention or perception relies on memory to some extent. The quality of memory is also vital for some practical reasons, because many important events influenced by reports from human witnesses.
