Hannibal In The Prince By Machiavelli
In The Prince Machiavelli speaks about virtue, and describes many of his characters to be virtuous.
Machiavelli s ideal virtuous leader must have the ability to avoid fortune, ability to use one s own
arms, and being a virtuous leader involves skill, therefore, to gain and remain in power.
Machiavelli s example of Hannibal in The Prince teaches us that having virtue or being virtuous is to
remain in power with the use of force. In chapter seventeen Hannibal is portrayed as being cruel;
maintains his army unified to gain and remain in power. Machiavelli also rates Hannibal highly on the
scale of virtue because it is said that ...together with his inhuman cruelty which, together with his
infinite virtues, always made him venerable and terrible

Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant
Wastewater treatment systems are very important to providing clean, drinkable water to its
surrounding societies. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants in wastewater from
household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional units. Processes include physical,
chemical and biological manipulation of contaminants to neutralize their effects on the human body
for consumption. There are three main types of treatment, primary, secondary and tertiary, all of which
have separate units and processes that flow in an organized manner to ultimately end up with recycled
potable water.
First in primary treatment the sewage is temporarily held in a quiescent basin where heavy solids
settle to the bottom while other contaminants such as oil, grease and lighter solids float to the top.
Commonly used procedures involve bar screens with washer compactors that remove a majority of
non fine solid material waste. Other airs is added to settle solids for grit removal. Fine screens as also
used to capture the finer waste material that flows through the primary larger hole bar screens. They
can often have two different sizes of bar screens that help in removing as much sold material waste
before moving onto secondary treatment. The finer screens are used to capture plastics that come into
the system.
Secondary treatment removes dissolved material and biological matter that is suspended between the
top and bottom of the tank. Secondary treatment involves the use of

Wild Reflection
This semester has showed me how to analyze within my writing. The class discussions throughout the
semester allowed me to think about the readings in a different way in which I was not accustomed. For
example, a discussion post regarding The Call of the Wild, we were asked, most of the human
characters are rather flat (unchanging) while the dogs personalities indicate some measure of depth
and character. What challenges does this role reversal present readers in understanding the central
theme of the story? What is the central theme ? In response, I answered, Jack London purposely shies
away from much of the human characters instincts and feelings so the readers would purposely
connect to the animals, specifically Buck and understand his instincts. The humans were not following
any of their instincts as their total focus was on the gold they had hoped to obtain. The central theme
of The Call of the Wild is Buck versus his instincts . Much of what we read can be analyzed in
different ways by different readers for example, one of my peers responded, I think that the overall
theme of the story is loyalty . So, how a reader analyses the story can be seen in different ways but
having the ability to decipher what the author is saying is the key in analyzation. When searching for
resources for my papers the idea of being able to read something and to analyze it, allowed me to
better understand what the author s point of view was. I often fell short in this area, but

Theories Of Learning Behavior Theories
There are over 100 theories of learning behaviour that can be applied to behaviour in the classroom. In
the field of education, research has shown that teachers spend as much time engaged in classroom
behaviour management as they do teaching, therefore, this shows the importance of learning
behaviour theories. Firstly, what is learning? Learning can be defined as developing newly learnt
skills, new knowledge and understanding concepts. We recognise learning as there is a better
understanding or a change in behaviour. It is essential to comprehend that learning associates different
understandings to many people and is used accordingly in various theories. This essay is divided into
three parts: first, addressing the definition of behaviour, secondly, the explanation of a Learning
Theory (Behaviourism) and lastly this paper will look at the classical and operant conditioning theory
illustrating how these environmental concepts affects children s learning in the classroom. Bulotsky
Shearer et al., (2012) mentioned that children who have difficulty regulating their emotions, paying
attention, initiating peer interactions and sustaining engagement in learning tasks are at risk for
learning difficulties. This essay will demonstrate how the above mentioned behaviours can cause
learning difficulties in children in the classroom. The Oxford Dictionary defines behaviour as the way
in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially towards others (Oxford Dictionary,

One of the top places in London to view amazing street art besides the Leake Street Tunnel,
Shoreditch and Brick Lane, is the colourful Camden Town. Nestled along the side streets off Camden
High Street and Chalk Farm Road you can find work from many well renowned, international and
local artists such as Otto Schade, Onesto, Pegasus and Gnasher.
Slowly succumbing to thoughtless tagging, this John Lennon piece by Gnasher was created in early
2015 and is located on Jamestown Road, painted on the side of the Oxford Arms Pub.

Legalized Gambling In The United States
Obviously, there are glaring inconsistencies with legalized gambling from state to state. Sports
gambling and Internet poker are very popular among American gamblers in every state, but both
remain almost entirely illegal in the U.S. There are some other gambling black markets, but sports
gambling and online poker are the two primary underground markets of truly significant size. Millions
of Americans skirt the law by gambling with companies based in different countries where that
activity is legal. This is a lucrative market as approximately $30 billion was gambled by Americans
with foreign Internet gambling sites from 2003 to 2010. Consequently, the Department of Justice and
the FBI have shut down several high profile offshore gambling companies. Nonetheless, this type of
activity remains readily available for American consumers as there are 85 countries with sanctioned
Internet gambling.
It s necessary to understand the history behind these failed policies. The Federal Wire Act of 1961 has
been the primary federal statute for prosecuting illegal sports gambling and decades later it has
remained as the legal basis behind shutting down several offshore gambling operations. The Wire Act
was a creation of Robert F. Kennedy while he served as the U.S. Attorney General. The primary ...

Summary Of The Roaring 20s
The Roaring 20s begin. Having moved from Okawville, a town of 600, to East St. Louis, a city of
75,000, Charles and Elizabeth have adjusted to a different environment over the past nine years.
Charles is 72 years old and is still working as a crossing watchman for the L N Railroad. He cranks
down the guardrails when a train approaches his intersection at 15th and Lincoln Streets. Members of
his family are undoubtedly noticing that he is becoming more and more forgetful of the more recent
things that have happened or that have been talked about. His 53 year old wife, Elizabeth, is still
called Mamma by her adult children. Still living with his parents is their 29 year old son, George or, as
he is called by his family and friends, Duddle. An army veteran, he finds work, at least temporarily, as
an electrician. Also living here is Lizzie. Turning 22, she is the youngest of the Lorne children. She
has fully recovered from having undergone major surgery that has left her with only one kidney. L12)
(L32) (L51)
Charles and Elizabeth s oldest child is Rachel Hall. In 1920, thirty six year old Rachel is living with
her husband, Lorenzo, on 9th Street in East St. Louis. Her children, Grace, Irene, Charlie, and Corrine,
range in age from thirteen to nine. All are attending school. Although Lorenzo is employed as a
butcher at a meat packing house in National City, his salary is barely enough to cover the cost rent,
food, and clothing for a family of six. Despite going through the

What Is Pedagogical Content Knowledge
pedagogical content knowledge is the transformation of subject matter, pedagogical, and contextual
knowledge into a unique form, which is called the transformative model. The transformative model
implies that these initial knowledge bases are inextricably combined into a new form of knowledge,
pedagogical content knowledge, in which the parent domain may be discovered only through
complicated analysis. The resulting amalgam is more interesting and powerful than its constituent
parts (Gess Newsome, 1990).
In the integrative model, in contrast, pedagogical content knowledge does not exist as a domain of
knowledge and can be most readily explained by the intersection (Gess Newsome, 1990) of the
subject matter, pedagogical, and contextual knowledge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, pedagogical content knowledge is knowledge for teaching (Ball, 2008). Second, I conclude that
pedagogical content knowledge is knowledge for teaching that is a transformation of knowledge of
subject matter, knowledge of students understanding, and knowledge of pedagogy or instructional
strategies. Of these three kinds of knowledge, knowledge of subject matter is likely the most
significant constituent. For example, mathematics teachers need to know mathematics in a way that
makes them able to teach mathematics conceptually as well as procedurally. Without a profound
understanding of mathematics, mathematics teachers cannot help their students understand a
mathematical concept by providing appropriate representations of it. What is more, only when
mathematics teachers understand mathematics deeply are they capable of using and adapting their
knowledge flexibly according to the needs of their students. Knowledge of mathematics enables
mathematics teachers to provide ideas of how to present a mathematical concept in a particular way
and to explain why representations would be

Deported Mothers Make New Lives In Tijuana
Tatiana Sanchez, author of Deported Mothers Make New Lives in Tijuana , argues that the US
immigration policy is stressing the human cost of tearing families apart to a critical and desperate
situation. She is a former reporter/writer of The San Diego Union Tribune and previously an
investigative reporter with The Desert Sun in Palm Springs. Her insight on the immigration dilemma
between the married couple Emma Sanchez and Michael Paulsen reveals that the immigration law
automatically and severely bans applicants seeking legal status yet break the immigration laws,
affecting the generations after the applicant. I agree with Sanchez that the US immigration is keeping
families apart at a severe humane consequence. Families are bonded through

Match Point Tragic Hero
The hunger for lust, money, pride, and power can often cause irrational and immoral behaviours and
as a result destroy the lives of innocent people. This is demonstrated in Match Point whereby the main
character commits murder and adultery out of the heat of the moment which consequences in a crime
of passion. The movie exemplifies a Shakespearean tragedy described by the tragic hero s destiny of
free will which ultimately leads to his eventual downfall and his internal struggles and death. This is
proven by through the tragic hero s actions, which are purely dictated by his free will. Furthermore,
the tragic hero contains many tragic flaws such as lack of judgements that impose his internal
struggles, and the suffering of other characters.

A Brief Note On A Path Of Destruction

English Composition 2

A Path of Destruction The generation of today is always busy on some form of media. Media consist
of television, video games, the internet, and smartphones just to name a few. It is thought to be
necessary for life in this everyday world. While technology can be fun, and is often used for many
good things, it also seems to create a few problems. Many individuals are of the opinion that the
media has little to no effect on murderous acts of violence, and others tend to lean in a very different
direction thinking that it is mere corruption. Media involving violence is believed by several to initiate
vicious acts, leading normal situations to change into dangerous ones.

In 1956, kids in a study who watched a violent episode of Woody Woodpecker were more likely to hit
other children and break toys than kids who watched a nonviolent cartoon (Hermes 2). All of these
things made parents wonder what was happening to their children.
Television was going strong by the 1960 s, and world events were aired for families to see. On
November 22, 1963, a CBS radio news bulletin interrupted As The World Turns to report that John F.
Kennedy had been seriously wounded by shots fired at his motorcade (Sneed 5). The incident was
reported in newspapers all across the world. The Vietnam War was escalating and the Civil Rights
Movement was in progress. All of these events were greatly affected the music. Most households had
a telephone on a party line with another family. Many loved to pick up the phone and listen to
personal conversations resulting in gossip. Every individual was affected by media at this point in
time.
In the decade of the 1970 s television was beginning to be more open about sex. Daytime TV was all
about the soap opera. These television shows were erotic and involved romance and sex. Not only was
television changing but the game industry was starting to evolve. The game console had been on the
market for several years. In 1976, this form of entertainment brought the beginning of game violence
to the public. Death Race, an 8 bit arcade game in which a vaguely car shaped blob ran over stick

Technology Affecting Sleep
One big problem with modern day technology, is that it is affecting our sleep. Most of us technophile

might end the day by scrolling their social media s news feed until their eyes begin to feel heavy. For
example, a recent poll by the National Sleep Foundation found that 95% of people use some type of
computer, video game, or cell phone at least a few nights a week within the hour before bed

Shakespeare s Sonnet 60, And On The Grasshopper And Crickets
Sonnets throughout the ages unveil the evolution of societal truths. William Shakespeare s Sonnet 60
and Henry Howard s Sonnet 8 reflect the Renaissance Era s use of powerful voltas to show a lover s
faith in spite of nature s barriers. William Wordsworth s The World Is Too Much with Us and John
Keats On the Grasshopper and Crickets illustrate the dynamics within Romantic Era Petrarchan
sonnets to reveal a utopian view of nature. Robert Frost s Range Finding and Claude McKay s
America are representative of the Modern Era s diverse depictions of nature through their contrasting
use of Shakespearean and Petrarchan sonnets. Renaissance Era s use of nature as a metaphor for
obstacles, the Romantic Era s idealization of nature, and the Modern Era s harsh portrayal of the
relationship between humans and nature demonstrate sonnets revelation of the ever present rift
between humans and nature.
The Renaissance Era s use of nature as an impediment to the speaker s love evinces society s
conception of the separation between humans and nature. Shakespeare s Sonnet 60 uses parallels
between Time and the Earth to portray Time as a barrier. For example, the speaker employs a simile to
compare like as the waves make towards the pebbl d shore with the manner in which minutes hasten
to their ends (Shakespeare 1, 2). This correlation helps the audience better understand how quickly
time passes. Nature is used to iterate the rapid approach of the living towards death. This

London is iconic for many things Big Ben, red telephone booths, double decker buses, and Tower
Bridge. Built in 1884, Tower Bridge a staple of London. Pryor to the building of Tower Bridge,
London Bridge was the only way to cross the Thames river. By the nineteenth century, the population
of London had grown much too large for one bridge, however there was a challenge as to how to build
the bridge without disrupting river traffic. In 1876 a Special Bridge Committee was formed to oversee
the designing and building of the bridge. The committee decided to open the designing up for public
competition. Over fifty designs were submitted and the committee filtered through them until they
discovered one that they liked. The chosen design was created by Horace Jones, the city architect, and
John Wolfe Barry ( Bridge History ). Construction began in October of 1884. Two gigantic piers were
driven into the river bed to support the eleven thousand tons of steel and granite that were used to
construct Tower Bridge. The project took eight years, five contractors, and over four hundred thirty
construction workers every day to complete. When it was first completed, Tower Bridge was the most
largest and most complex bascule bridge ever built. The large bascules were raised and lowered by
large hydraulic cylinders that were powered by massive steam engines and boilers. The bridge
remained this way until 1976 when it was updated to be ran with oil and electricity ( History of Tower

UML to Java Executable Code Generator Sai Priya Anumula, California State University, Fullerton
Abstract Automatic Code generation from UML diagrams gains much interest lately in software
design, because it has many benefits as it reduces the effort to generate code and moreover automated
code is less error prone than writing code manually. However, major challenges in this area include
checking consistency of UML models, and ensuring accuracy, maintainability, and efficiency of the
generated code. In this paper we discuss a tool called UJECTOR,which is used for automatic
generation of executable java code from UML diagrams. UML diagrams like class diagram, sequence

UML activity diagrams are used to provide code completeness and user interactions. Activity

converts Class or interface model elements into code. It generates code in various languages like c, c#,
c++, java, Visual Basic, Visual Basic. NET, Python, PHP, and Action Script. In this Class and interface
elements are required to generate code. 2.2. Eclipse UML Generators It bridges the gap between UML
models and source code. Eclipse does this by extracting data from UML models to generate source
code or by reverse engineering source code to produce UML models. 2.3. Rhapsody This tool
generates C++ code from UML object and state chart diagrams. It also takes message sequence charts

and generates C++ code. 2.4. dCode This tool generates Java code from UML object, activity and state

conclude that: The completeness of the generated code is a big issue The generated code lacks object
manipulation The generated code lacks user interaction The existing work lacks understandability All
the UML based code generation tools use older versions of UML in code generation process instead of

Jackie Robinson Impact On Society
A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives Jackie Robinson (Baseball Almanac).
Jackie Robinson s life accomplished more than impacting others, he impacted a nation. His humble
upbringing, strong will, and fight for equality is unmatched by any other. He was one of the first
African Americans to stand up for equal rights and broke through many barriers to allow others to
fight with him. His Hall of Fame career on the baseball diamond is only a small piece to Jackie s story
of struggle and hardship to reach equality. Born on January 31, 1919 Jack Roosevelt Robinson was the
youngest of five children. His father left the family before Jackie turned one and shortly after his mom
moved the family from Georgia to California in search of work (Contemporary Black Biography).
Segregation was still present in California, but was less harsh than in the south. To get away from the
problems and racial prejudice, Jackie turned to sports. He was an exceptional athlete excelling in
football, baseball, basketball, and track in both high school and college. He played four sports for the
University of California Los Angeles (commonly known as UCLA). He was mostly a football and
basketball star and had no intentions of playing Major League baseball due to the fact that it was all
white. Jackie had always wanted to become a social worker to help underprivileged boys and hoped

Fracking Vs Natural Gas Essay
Fracking is good for United States because it is used for fueling vehicles, cooking, and heating houses
and offices; unfortunately, fracking is destructive to the environment as it contains many chemicals.
Natural gas is lighter than air and dissipates in an accident, which makes it safer than flammable liquid
fuel. Most models of natural gas cars get the same miles per gallon. Most spend a lot less filling up the
tank using natural gas than anything else. Natural gas costs about half the price of gasoline or diesel.
Another plus is the need to change the car s oil is less frequent because of the cleanliness of the fuel. A
regular gasoline powered car averages 32 miles per gallon while a natural gas powered car averages
43 miles per gallon. The natural gas used to fuel vehicles is a certain kind ... Show more content on

Natural gas has been found to be so much safer to use to heat a house than with an electric heater.
Heating a home with natural gas is much safer than heating a home with electric. Electric heaters are
known for catching fire, sparking, and burning. The most common thing electric heaters are known for
is shorting out and causing the electric sockets to burn. Electric heaters are not always the warmest
things they take a very long time to heat homes even if they re not all that small. Natural gas heaters
take less time to heat any sized home and heats the home almost 100% warmer. Natural gas is 120 to
140 degrees warmer than any other heat, can be used to heat water, and to heat your pool outside.
There are many reasons to love natural gas, it s easier to install and transport, its warmer, cooks faster,
and is better to use as fuel. One thing no one is told when natural gas is used is if it leaks and no one
knows the chance of getting carbon monoxide poisoning is very

Analyzing Erin Gruwell s Freedom Writers
STAR Analysis Freedom Writers
Freedom Writers is based on a true story about Erin Gruwell, a first time teacher who given a class of
underperforming students. The students have experienced gang and racial violence which is displayed
throughout the movie. I am going to focus on the leadership behavior of Erin Gruwell through her
style of coaching. Through her leadership of coaching her students, she was able to open their eyes to
a whole new perspective of the world that there is not just gang and racial violence, but there is
something special about each and every one of them.

Action: Erin took upon a lot of actions to show her students she cares about their future and them as
an individual. She was inspiring. She created excitement so the students can see that their dreams will
come true. An example of this was when Erin gave a toast for change. She wanted her students to
know that anything was possible as long as they put their heart and mind to it. This will help motivate
them in achieving their dreams and pursuing higher education after high school.
She also helped stimulate their intellectual learnings. She did this by having them play games to
connect better with one another as well as easier for them to process what they are really learning. An
example of this was using the rapper, TuPac, to teach them about poetry. She also brought up
controversial topics such as racial discrimination to help the students relate themselves to the
problems they face every day. She even got their attention when she covered the topic about the
Holocaust and took them out to dinner to meet the

The term mise en scene is used to signify the director s control over what appears in the film frame (1)
and covers such elements as setting, lighting, costume and the movement and actions of figures
appearing within the film.
The iconic Citizen Kane (Welles, 1941), a biopic that traces the life of fictional newspaper magnate
Charles Kane, uses the elements of mise en scene to reinforce loss as a recurring theme throughout the
film. As a faceless reporter goes about collecting personal recounts of Kane, the stories told suggest

After watching it, and knowing more about true appreciation of film I get it, so to speak.
Watching a film takes so much more than just escaping from your own life for a few hours. Being able
to turn your brain off and say, Ok. I get to live in this other world for the day. This is my life for a day.
Film is only about escaping in the sense that a message must escape from the scenes, and the story as a
whole. It may never cross the lips of any of the characters, or be written in white on a black screen (as
in black and whites), and it won t be mystically entered into your computerized mind, or sent as a
message to your iPhone. No...to get the message of the film you have to watch and know what to look
for the subtle nuances and the mise en scene, everything that is in a particular frame, because those are
the clues and you are the detective. You must find universal truth and your own personal growth from
what you take from the movie. Some movies do a poor job of sending a message and those are the
movies that people watch and forget to learn from them. Other are too complex. Citizen Kane is
perfect because you can learn everything you ever needed to know about how to analyze a film from
it, and it is such a beautifully simple story, with complex characters, making the everyday important,
just as it should be in our own lives.

Hercules And April Struggle To Know Their True Identity
It is very important for someone to know their true identity. If you don t know who you are then how
will you apply for a job? How will make friends or find a spouse without knowing who you really are?
All these things that are important in the human life depends on us knowing who we really are. If not,
all the opportunities that rely on us knowing who we are, they will be gone. An example is like
someone saying, Hey what s your favorite color? Then you say, a color, I don t know. Another
example is Hercules, he doesn t know who he is, he keeps searching and searching, trying to be like

Can The Effective Treatment Of Wastewater In Developing
Can the effective treatment of wastewater in developing countries have an impact on the development
of antibiotic resistance?
Introduction:
The emergence of resistance in bacteria is primarily related to human and agricultural use of natural
and synthetic antibiotics. Most antibiotics aren t full metabolised and together with resistant bacteria
are excreted where they can reach sewage systems and wastewater treatment plants. (Luczkiewicz et
al., 2011). Standard wastewater treatment conventions have not been shown to be fully effective in
reducing the number of resistant bacteria. Unfortunately, some have been shown to positively select
for resistant isolates. (Luczkiewicz et al., 2011). Current treatments in developed countries are quite ...

However, recent research into the use of constructed wetlands has provided developing countries with
a more suitable alternative to treating wastewater. Additionally, these wetlands may provide a solution
to the spread of antibiotic resistant isolates by removing antibiotics from the wastewater. (Standard
For Sewage Treatment Plants In Developing Countries., Humans and the natural environment slides).
Wastewater is a potential source of antimicrobial resistant pathogens:
As mentioned previously the treatment of wastewater in developing countries is not very common due
to the expense, resources, and time required to treat wastewater effectively. (figure 1) (kaur 2012) And
for some areas these wastewater treatment plants are just not viable, and much of the waste is
discarded into waters where not only pathogenic bacteria can disseminate but also resistant bacteria
and genes. However, in areas that are fortunate enough to have sanitation facilities and conventional
treatments such as activated sludge method, drying beds technology and ozonation or chlorination as a
disinfection method, they have not been shown to be completely effective in the removal of antibiotics
and resistant varieties and even promote resistance in some cases. Evidence for this is

Talbot 3). Perfectly healthy individuals are turning to these so called neuroenhancers (Talbot 3) or
smart pills (qtd. Cheshire 264) to improve their mental abilities. According to research led by Sean
Esteban McCabe, a professor at the University of Michigan s Substance Abuse Research Center, the
individuals most likely to take neuroenhancers in college were white male undergraduates at highly
competitive schools especially in the Northeast (Talbot 3). The appeal of these drugs seems to lie in
the fact that they target subjective symptoms (Cheshire 264) in healthy people instead of a disease.
Neuroenhancers are looked to as a way to quickly improve a person s mental capabilities in order to
perform better at tasks in a limited amount of time.
Another reason for the increasing rise in the use of neuroenhancers is that these drugs are readily
available. Often classmates have seen their peers with ADHD take these pills. In college, it is an easy
matter of borrowing some from a friend with ADHD who has a ready supply through a prescription or
they buy them from a supplier (Talbot 3). One student closely observed the symptoms of his brother
who had been diagnosed with ADHD. Upon describing these same symptoms to his doctor, the
healthy student received a prescription for Adderall (Talbot 2). Drugs such as Adderall and Ritalin are

(Resick et al, 2002) carried out an investigation comparing CBT with strong cognitive restructuring

this experiment approximately 80% of patients who completed either form of CBT no longer met the

United States President Richard Nixon was involved in a major political scandal during the 1970s that
resulted from a break in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. The scandal was known
as the Watergate scandal. The scandal was called Watergate because it occurred at the Watergate office

scandal was discovered and investigated by Congress. The scandal comprised of illegal activities such
as bugging of offices, ordering investigations of activist groups and political figures with the use of

How Tobacco Use Teaching Methods
Tobacco Use Teaching Methods
Introduction
Choosing the correct teaching method is important to help the learner retain and learn information in
an effective and efficient way. Tobacco use is a health related topic that needs further education and
intervention from a nurse. Group discussion and demonstration, and return demonstration are two
teaching methods of interest to me, which I believe will be beneficial to use when educating a small
group of five people about this health related topic are. Group discussion involves the deliverance of
medical information or education to a small group of individuals which may include their family so
information, opinions can be exchanged with the nurse. This is simple way to deliver information to
more than one person at one time if time management is a concern, and the nurse is able to build trust
and rapport with the group as a whole. Demonstration and return demonstration works more
effectively in a small group and involves education or teaching with the nurse and learner(s). This
method also allows time for feedback from both parties. The nurse gives the learner a demonstration
of a task to perform and the learner has to attempt to carry out the task back showing competence, and
the nurse is on standby to give cues as needed.
Group discussions Group discussions are beneficial as this teaching method is useful as it allows the
learners to share information about their personal experiences and is both economically and time

Induction machines are classified into two which includes motors and generators. The basic principles
of these motors can be applied and hence develop equations describing its behaviour. The most
common motors include squirrel cage, wound rotor ranging from few horsepower to thousands as the

wound rotor has a 3 phase windings, and are evenly distributed in the slots, usually connected in 3

The United States V. Paramount Pictures (1948)
After World War II, the filmmaking industry experienced a dramatic change. The Paramount decision

instrumental in shaping the filmmaking business into what we know today. United States v. Paramount
Pictures (1948) was a landmark United States Supreme Court case that changed the way filmmakers,

the old Hollywood studio system. Under this system, film studios also owner the theaters where their

by the studio that owned them. Further, the studios that created the film also had the directors, writers,
actors, set designers, etc. under contract. To take it even further, the studios also owned the

Abstract
The point of this investigation was to determine if there is a relationship between the two subtypes of
psychopathy and cognitive empathy. A correlation design was employed, in which Levenson, Kiehl
and Fitzpatrick s (1994) Levenson Self Report Psychopathy Scale and Baron Cohel, et al s (2002)
Reading the Mind in the Eyes tests were given to 452 Victoria University Psychology students.
Calculations were made, and resulted in the results to being a significant, negative correlation between
primary psychopathy and cognitive empathy, but no significant correlation between secondary
psychopathy and cognitive empathy. This concludes that not all psychopathy is correlated with
cognitive empathy, but there is a relationship.
Is There a Correlation Between Primary Psychopathy, Secondary Psychopathy and Cognitive
Empathy?
Many studies have been conducted to determine if there is a correlation between Cognitive Empathy
and the two subtypes of Psychopathy (e.g. Ali Chamorro Premuzic, 2010; Levenson, Kiehl,
Fitzpatrick, 1994; Baron Cohen, et al., 2002). Cognitive empathy is defined as the capability to
understand the emotions of another (Ali Chamorro Premuzic, 2010). Psychopathy is defined as an

In the speech and language section students need to ask meaning of words. This determines whether or
not the child will be involved in the learning process in a classroom setting. The student must describe
pictures and experiences. They must use appropriate verb tenses and grammar. This will ensure a core
of knowledge for the kindergarten curriculum. Also, the student must recognize simple jokes, riddles,
and absurdities. (Gisler and Eberts). The student s gross motor coordination should also be an
important factor in determining the child s readiness for kindergarten. They must be able to walk
downstairs using alternate feet, and hop on one foot; this is to check the child s balance and ability to
walk. They must jump along a six foot line with both feet. The student needs to be able to walk scissor
steps across a line. Last, but not least, student must be able to begin to skip alternating feet. These
evaluations are done in a few states nationwide. These evaluations do take place in certain districts in
the state of Mississippi and are administered by properly trained educators. This needs to become a
nationwide standard. (Williams) The next part of the evaluation should include fine motor
coordination including using scissors to cut a straight line. It seems like an easy task but as a
kindergarten teacher witnessing it first hand everyday; it is hard for students to complete this task.

straight A s on their report card every year of school. Secondly, Lupe is intelligent because she has
won multiple awards. For example, Lupe won the school spelling bee, she won the blue ribbon award
in the science fair, she was the winner of a reading contest at the library three summers in a row, she
was also the top student in her piano recital, and she was the playground champion of chess. Talk
about a ton of awards, right? Lupe feels like none of these awards mean anything though. Lupe wishes
she could win some type of award in athletics, so that she can keep up with the other girls in her
school, that s why Lupe is working towards her goal of being the marble champion. Also, in one case
in the story, when Lupe was playing marbles on her bed, she figured out that her bedspread was
slowing down the marbles as she shot them. This

Ear infections in Longview, TX are extremely painful and are the cause of many hours of sleepless

Sports Should Be Banned In Sports Essay
Do you think it is fair that athletes who have taken performance enhancing drugs should be allowed to
compete again after serving a nominal ban? By lifetime ban, I mean an indefinite ban from all
competition; an official order that prevents something from being used or done. I believe that if a
person cheats, they should automatically be given a lifetime ban.
Performance enhancing drugs and recreational drugs are dangerous and banned in all sports. They can
cause serious damage to the body and can be extremely addictive. Even though these drugs are
forbidden, this does not deter athletes from using them. In most countries the penalty for testing
positive for performance enhancing drugs is a two year suspension for the first offence and a lifetime
ban for a second. However, this does vary from country to country. Is this fair on other athletes
competing? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be evidenced through the story of Dwain Chambers, a former sprinter from Great Britain,
who was served with a two year suspension for taking the designer steroid THG. Did he think about
how this affected other athletes? How other athletes were making the effort and he was just cheating?
According to the double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, It doesn t put on in a good light
allowing a cheat, who admitted he s a cheat, to represent us.
It has even been claimed that one in eight competitors are on performance enhancing drugs, if these
cheats were to win it would disgrace the sport itself (never mind the countries the athletes are
representing). This is, by all means, not fair on the other athletes competing and it should not be
allowed. The point of a competition is to test and ensure your capability and make improvements
throughout training. To stop this, a lifetime ban would be the ultimate punishment and would make
athletes uneasy about taking the drugs, which would hopefully bring drug abuse to an

Essay about Teen Magazines Negative Influence on the...
I open up the hottest teen magazines on the market; Allure, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, and Teen Vogue
are a few at the top. As I flip through the magazine this holiday season I see pages of clothes that only
the rich can afford, pictures of half naked people draped over each other, articles about horoscopes and
editorials talking about which teen star is the sexiest. Fashion, makeup, men, sex, celebrities, and
exercising are the most popular topics I see as I peruse these magazines. These popular magazines
take no time to tell me how beautiful I am, but only tell me the hundreds of things I need to do to
improve. They tell me that I need more new, expensive makeup to look like a movie star. These
magazines teach me how to seduce a man, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magazines no longer give girls advice on how to grow up to be a respected person or a loving friend;
instead they give advice on how to hook up quick or make his dreams come true. Where has all the
wholesome advice gone? Women have let the idea of looking beautiful take over their self confidence
and life. Healthy Place, an online magazine teaching women about living a healthy life, says that,
today s fashion models weigh twenty three percent less than the average female, and a young woman
between the ages of 18 34 has a seven percent chance of being as slim as a catwalk model and a one
percent chance of being as thin as a supermodel. So why do women push themselves to be excessively
thin when these models are anomalies? They do it because the media tells them that this look is the
only look that can attract men. Even if a woman is beautiful according to the media s standards, she
will always find something about her body that she hates, whether it is her hair or her belly button, no
women is completely satisfied. Our society is very accepting of different religions and lifestyles, so
why can we not accept different types of beauty as well? As a teenager, I know the pressure put on
females to look a certain way. I attended a public high school in a rather wealthy area. So, while other
girls could afford the in clothes, I spent my shopping days at the sales rack. My Christmas lists were
full of basic jeans and shoes, because it was the

The Football Of The Baseball Team
As everyone ran to the field eager and excited to begin their freshman year of football I awkwardly
stumbled along, following them as the field grew closer. I was scared, no; I was absolutely petrified.
Never before had I played a real sport. Sure I played a few seasons on the city s little league baseball
team, but in my young mind, that was surely nothing compared to this. Tackle football: I had seen a
few minutes of it when my dad and his friends watched, or when my friends played Madden 05 .
Although actually playing was another story altogether; I was sure that my out of shape, chubby,
fourteen year old body would collapse, and I would die.
Only now is it that I know that everyone else on that field was equally as scared as me; that, ... Show

More than a few times I wanted to quit, and more than a few times I thought I was literally going to
die. How did all of these kids run this much without dying? I was sure it couldn t have been healthy.
FASTER! FASTER! AGAIN! AGAIN! coach Hilliard screamed at the top of his lungs.
At the time I fully believed he made us run just to make us stronger, also I think he got some
happiness from our pain. Either way, I knew that I hated it and this man was not going to get me to
compete for him. One day after practice, he pulled me aside before I could go back to the locker room
to change. Hey Jake can I talk to you for a second. he said very nonchalantly, I walked over and stood
there nervously wondering what he wanted. Jake, I know that you don t like being here, and I know
that you only come because your friends are on the team. But Jake, I see a lot of potential in you. I see
a young man who isn t sure about a decision he has made, and I want you to make me a promise. He
said all of this in such a calm and kind almost caring manner. I was astonished that someone I thought
was so mean and hateful could sound so kind and meaningful. What s the promise? I responded
hesitantly.
I want you to give this team one hundred percent of your effort Jake. For the rest of the season, I want
you to try to care about this team, I want you to push yourself to try and be the best you can be. If at
the end of the year you

Machiavelli s ideal virtuous leader must have the ability to avoid fortune, ability to use one s own arms, and being a virtuous leader involves skill, therefore, to gain and remain in power. Machiavelli s example of Hannibal in The Prince teaches us that having virtue or being virtuous is to remain in power with the use of force. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants in wastewater from household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional units. Processes include physical, chemical and biological manipulation of contaminants to neutralize their effects on the human body for consumption. There are three main types of treatment, primary, secondary and tertiary, all of which have separate units and processes that flow in an organized manner to ultimately end up with recycled potable water. First in primary treatment the sewage is temporarily held in a quiescent basin where heavy solids settle to the bottom while other contaminants such as oil, grease and lighter solids float to the top. Commonly used procedures involve bar screens with washer compactors that remove a majority of non fine solid material waste. Other airs is added to settle solids for grit removal. Fine screens as also used to capture the finer waste material that flows through the primary larger hole bar screens. They can often have two different sizes of bar screens that help in removing as much sold material waste before moving onto secondary treatment. The finer screens are used to capture plastics that come into the system. Secondary treatment removes dissolved material and biological matter that is suspended between the top and bottom of the tank. Secondary treatment involves the use of ... • 5. Wild Reflection This semester has showed me how to analyze within my writing. The class discussions throughout the semester allowed me to think about the readings in a different way in which I was not accustomed. For example, a discussion post regarding The Call of the Wild, we were asked, most of the human characters are rather flat (unchanging) while the dogs personalities indicate some measure of depth and character. What challenges does this role reversal present readers in understanding the central theme of the story? What is the central theme ? In response, I answered, Jack London purposely shies away from much of the human characters instincts and feelings so the readers would purposely connect to the animals, specifically Buck and understand his instincts. The humans were not following any of their instincts as their total focus was on the gold they had hoped to obtain. The central theme of The Call of the Wild is Buck versus his instincts . Much of what we read can be analyzed in different ways by different readers for example, one of my peers responded, I think that the overall theme of the story is loyalty . So, how a reader analyses the story can be seen in different ways but having the ability to decipher what the author is saying is the key in analyzation. When searching for resources for my papers the idea of being able to read something and to analyze it, allowed me to better understand what the author s point of view was. I often fell short in this area, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Theories Of Learning Behavior Theories There are over 100 theories of learning behaviour that can be applied to behaviour in the classroom. In the field of education, research has shown that teachers spend as much time engaged in classroom behaviour management as they do teaching, therefore, this shows the importance of learning behaviour theories. Firstly, what is learning? Learning can be defined as developing newly learnt skills, new knowledge and understanding concepts. We recognise learning as there is a better understanding or a change in behaviour. It is essential to comprehend that learning associates different understandings to many people and is used accordingly in various theories. This essay is divided into three parts: first, addressing the definition of behaviour, secondly, the explanation of a Learning Theory (Behaviourism) and lastly this paper will look at the classical and operant conditioning theory illustrating how these environmental concepts affects children s learning in the classroom. Bulotsky Shearer et al., (2012) mentioned that children who have difficulty regulating their emotions, paying attention, initiating peer interactions and sustaining engagement in learning tasks are at risk for learning difficulties. This essay will demonstrate how the above mentioned behaviours can cause learning difficulties in children in the classroom. • 8. Legalized Gambling In The United States Obviously, there are glaring inconsistencies with legalized gambling from state to state. Sports gambling and Internet poker are very popular among American gamblers in every state, but both remain almost entirely illegal in the U.S. There are some other gambling black markets, but sports gambling and online poker are the two primary underground markets of truly significant size. Millions of Americans skirt the law by gambling with companies based in different countries where that activity is legal. This is a lucrative market as approximately $30 billion was gambled by Americans with foreign Internet gambling sites from 2003 to 2010. Consequently, the Department of Justice and the FBI have shut down several high profile offshore gambling companies. Nonetheless, this type of activity remains readily available for American consumers as there are 85 countries with sanctioned Internet gambling. It s necessary to understand the history behind these failed policies. The Federal Wire Act of 1961 has been the primary federal statute for prosecuting illegal sports gambling and decades later it has remained as the legal basis behind shutting down several offshore gambling operations. • 10. What Is Pedagogical Content Knowledge pedagogical content knowledge is the transformation of subject matter, pedagogical, and contextual knowledge into a unique form, which is called the transformative model. The transformative model implies that these initial knowledge bases are inextricably combined into a new form of knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, in which the parent domain may be discovered only through complicated analysis. The resulting amalgam is more interesting and powerful than its constituent parts (Gess Newsome, 1990). In the integrative model, in contrast, pedagogical content knowledge does not exist as a domain of knowledge and can be most readily explained by the intersection (Gess Newsome, 1990) of the subject matter, pedagogical, and contextual knowledge. ... William Shakespeare s Sonnet 60 and Henry Howard s Sonnet 8 reflect the Renaissance Era s use of powerful voltas to show a lover s faith in spite of nature s barriers. William Wordsworth s The World Is Too Much with Us and John Keats On the Grasshopper and Crickets illustrate the dynamics within Romantic Era Petrarchan sonnets to reveal a utopian view of nature. Robert Frost s Range Finding and Claude McKay s America are representative of the Modern Era s diverse depictions of nature through their contrasting use of Shakespearean and Petrarchan sonnets. Renaissance Era s use of nature as a metaphor for obstacles, the Romantic Era s idealization of nature, and the Modern Era s harsh portrayal of the relationship between humans and nature demonstrate sonnets revelation of the ever present rift between humans and nature. The Renaissance Era s use of nature as an impediment to the speaker s love evinces society s conception of the separation between humans and nature. Shakespeare s Sonnet 60 uses parallels between Time and the Earth to portray Time as a barrier. For example, the speaker employs a simile to compare like as the waves make towards the pebbl d shore with the manner in which minutes hasten to their ends (Shakespeare 1, 2). Over fifty designs were submitted and the committee filtered through them until they discovered one that they liked. The chosen design was created by Horace Jones, the city architect, and John Wolfe Barry ( Bridge History ). Construction began in October of 1884. Two gigantic piers were driven into the river bed to support the eleven thousand tons of steel and granite that were used to construct Tower Bridge. The project took eight years, five contractors, and over four hundred thirty construction workers every day to complete. When it was first completed, Tower Bridge was the most largest and most complex bascule bridge ever built. The large bascules were raised and lowered by large hydraulic cylinders that were powered by massive steam engines and boilers. • 27. Fracking Vs Natural Gas Essay Fracking is good for United States because it is used for fueling vehicles, cooking, and heating houses and offices; unfortunately, fracking is destructive to the environment as it contains many chemicals. Natural gas is lighter than air and dissipates in an accident, which makes it safer than flammable liquid fuel. Most models of natural gas cars get the same miles per gallon. Most spend a lot less filling up the tank using natural gas than anything else. Natural gas costs about half the price of gasoline or diesel. Another plus is the need to change the car s oil is less frequent because of the cleanliness of the fuel. A regular gasoline powered car averages 32 miles per gallon while a natural gas powered car averages 43 miles per gallon. The natural gas used to fuel vehicles is a certain kind ... Electric heaters are not always the warmest things they take a very long time to heat homes even if they re not all that small. Natural gas heaters take less time to heat any sized home and heats the home almost 100% warmer. Natural gas is 120 to 140 degrees warmer than any other heat, can be used to heat water, and to heat your pool outside. This is my life for a day. Film is only about escaping in the sense that a message must escape from the scenes, and the story as a whole. • 50. Sports Should Be Banned In Sports Essay Do you think it is fair that athletes who have taken performance enhancing drugs should be allowed to compete again after serving a nominal ban? By lifetime ban, I mean an indefinite ban from all competition; an official order that prevents something from being used or done. I believe that if a person cheats, they should automatically be given a lifetime ban. Performance enhancing drugs and recreational drugs are dangerous and banned in all sports. They can cause serious damage to the body and can be extremely addictive. Even though these drugs are forbidden, this does not deter athletes from using them. In most countries the penalty for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs is a two year suspension for the first offence and a lifetime ban for a second. However, this does vary from country to country. Is this fair on other athletes competing? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could be evidenced through the story of Dwain Chambers, a former sprinter from Great Britain, who was served with a two year suspension for taking the designer steroid THG. Did he think about how this affected other athletes? How other athletes were making the effort and he was just cheating? According to the double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, It doesn t put on in a good light allowing a cheat, who admitted he s a cheat, to represent us. It has even been claimed that one in eight competitors are on performance enhancing drugs, if these cheats were to win it would disgrace the sport itself (never mind the countries the athletes are representing). This is, by all means, not fair on the other athletes competing and it should not be allowed. The point of a competition is to test and ensure your capability and make improvements throughout training. To stop this, a lifetime ban would be the ultimate punishment and would make athletes uneasy about taking the drugs, which would hopefully bring drug abuse to an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Essay about Teen Magazines Negative Influence on the... I open up the hottest teen magazines on the market; Allure, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, and Teen Vogue are a few at the top. As I flip through the magazine this holiday season I see pages of clothes that only the rich can afford, pictures of half naked people draped over each other, articles about horoscopes and editorials talking about which teen star is the sexiest. Fashion, makeup, men, sex, celebrities, and exercising are the most popular topics I see as I peruse these magazines. These popular magazines take no time to tell me how beautiful I am, but only tell me the hundreds of things I need to do to improve. They tell me that I need more new, expensive makeup to look like a movie star. These magazines teach me how to seduce a man, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Magazines no longer give girls advice on how to grow up to be a respected person or a loving friend; instead they give advice on how to hook up quick or make his dreams come true. Where has all the wholesome advice gone? Women have let the idea of looking beautiful take over their self confidence and life. Healthy Place, an online magazine teaching women about living a healthy life, says that, today s fashion models weigh twenty three percent less than the average female, and a young woman between the ages of 18 34 has a seven percent chance of being as slim as a catwalk model and a one percent chance of being as thin as a supermodel. So why do women push themselves to be excessively thin when these models are anomalies? They do it because the media tells them that this look is the only look that can attract men. Even if a woman is beautiful according to the media s standards, she will always find something about her body that she hates, whether it is her hair or her belly button, no women is completely satisfied. Our society is very accepting of different religions and lifestyles, so why can we not accept different types of beauty as well? As a teenager, I know the pressure put on females to look a certain way. I attended a public high school in a rather wealthy area. So, while other girls could afford the in clothes, I spent my shopping days at the sales rack. My Christmas lists were full of basic jeans and shoes, because it was the ... • 52. The Football Of The Baseball Team As everyone ran to the field eager and excited to begin their freshman year of football I awkwardly stumbled along, following them as the field grew closer. I was scared, no; I was absolutely petrified. Never before had I played a real sport. Sure I played a few seasons on the city s little league baseball team, but in my young mind, that was surely nothing compared to this. Tackle football: I had seen a few minutes of it when my dad and his friends watched, or when my friends played Madden 05 . Although actually playing was another story altogether; I was sure that my out of shape, chubby, fourteen year old body would collapse, and I would die. Only now is it that I know that everyone else on that field was equally as scared as me; that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More than a few times I wanted to quit, and more than a few times I thought I was literally going to die. How did all of these kids run this much without dying? I was sure it couldn t have been healthy. FASTER! FASTER! AGAIN! AGAIN! coach Hilliard screamed at the top of his lungs. At the time I fully believed he made us run just to make us stronger, also I think he got some happiness from our pain. Either way, I knew that I hated it and this man was not going to get me to compete for him. One day after practice, he pulled me aside before I could go back to the locker room to change. Hey Jake can I talk to you for a second. he said very nonchalantly, I walked over and stood there nervously wondering what he wanted. Jake, I know that you don t like being here, and I know that you only come because your friends are on the team. But Jake, I see a lot of potential in you. I see a young man who isn t sure about a decision he has made, and I want you to make me a promise. He said all of this in such a calm and kind almost caring manner. I was astonished that someone I thought was so mean and hateful could sound so kind and meaningful. What s the promise? I responded hesitantly. I want you to give this team one hundred percent of your effort Jake. For the rest of the season, I want you to try to care about this team, I want you to push yourself to try and be the best you can be. If at the end of the year you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
