The Influence Of The Federal Reserve System
The Federal Reserve System, often referred to as the Fed, is the United States central bank. It was
created by Congress to provide the nation with a safer, more flexible and stable monetary and
financial system. The Fed is an independent institution that is to some extent influenced by the
government. It is under the supervision of the congress. On the other hand, as an independent
body, the Fed has the power to act freely, without its decisions being ratified by the President of
the United States, the Congress or any other executive member of the government and is structured
to be economically independent. The Fed is also composed of twelve numbered districts, each with
its own Federal Reserve Bank. The responsibilities of the Federal Reserve

A Brief Note On Workforce Injury Or Death
Workforce injury or death In the construction business, health and safety is the most concerning
risk. Working on construction site is very physically demanding job and also very dangerous. There
are many sources of potential danger from injuries caused by working with the tools/material
/equipment, to the fatal accidents caused by negligence. Examples of such an events: falls from
heights, slips from scaffolding, electrocutions, falling objects, explosions, overexertion, vehicle
related accidents... пѓ To control these risks, safety standards have to be met at all times and
monitored frequently. All employees should be trained and informed about Health Safety
standards; supervisors have to be responsible for ensuring safety measures are in place on every
construction site and if something goes wrong, they should be held accountable. Accident and
injury rates should be carefully monitored on regular basis. Examples of simple but crucial
safety rules include: work areas should be clear of obstructions; slippery surfaces should be
reported immediately; safety net should be installed to prevent objects from falling on workers;
all workers should be provided with electrical safety training; visibly mark the area for vehicles
only. As mentioned in the annual report 2015, good practice has already been established on our
sites in order to reduce the health risks defibrillators were provided at as many workplaces as
possible. Failure to win and retain contracts our business

Woodrow Wilson Biography Essay
In 1907, radiometric dating was used. It found that the Earth was 2.2 billion years old. The
Wright brothers were inventors at the time. They flew the first motorized airplane in 1903.
Many women had Gibson Girls hairstyles. They began to abandon the corset at the end of the

William Howard Taft was the president for the first portion of this decade (until 1913). He was
the 27th president, and he eventually became chief justice of the Supreme Court, becoming the
only person to have served as both a U.S. chief justice and president. Woodrow Wilson was the
next president. In 1917 he declared the United States entrance to World War I. He felt as though
it was important to keep the interests of the people in mind through his terms. This is the time
period that vacuum cleaners were first used commercially, though they were invented before

large use of machine guns for World War I. Daylight savings was used for World War I; this
helped save fuel needed to heat houses, as the sun was out later. Vegetarian sausage came from
World War I because meat was scarce in Germany, and an alternative was needed. Charles Franklin

The Economic Economy Of Australia
Every year, the statistical organization of each country will count the gross domestic product
(GDP) of the country, and calculate the growth rate compared with other countries. In general, GDP
growth has become an important manifestation of the country s comprehensive national strength. In
economics, GDP is an important index of a country s economic health. It is important because each
component of GDP will represent in daily life. In Australia, GDP growth dependent on its service
sector, manufacturing and agriculture, in which the service sector accounted for the highest
proportion of total GDP. Moreover, Australia is a country which has rich resources, and this become
another economic growth point that different from other countries.... Show more content on

For different purpose, the different GDP frames will be used. Real GDP is the value of final goods
and services produced in a given year when valued at the prices of a reference base year;
Nominal GDP is the value of final goods and services produced in a given year when valued at the
prices of that year. The maximum level of real GDP that can be produced while avoiding shortages
of labour, capital, land and entrepreneurial ability that would bring rising inflation is called potential
GDP (McTaggart, Findlay Parkin, 2012). In this essay, GDP stands for real GDP, and real GDP can
be calculated by either the expenditure approach or the income approach. In this essay, the
expenditure approach will be used. Aggregate expenditure describes the relationship between total
consumption and national income. It can be calculated with a formula: AE = C + I + G + NX. In
this formula, the C stands for household consumption, the I stands for investment expenditure, the
G stands for government expenditure and the NX stands for net export expenditure. The change of
these components will eventually affect real GPD. The expenditure approach is important because
it can tell the government of consumers demand so that the government can better allocate
resources. It can also convey the economic situation signals to the central bank to help them to carry
out macroeconomic regulation and control. The figure 1 below shows the aggregate expenditure

The Causes Of Childhood Obesity
Causes of Childhood Obesity Imagine yourself walking into a kindergarten class, and all you
see are obese children not walking, but moving on wheels because they simply cannot walk
anymore due to their excess body weight. Their legs are so weak since they have to handle so
much more weight than what they are designed to do. This vision may no longer be fictional if
the world keeps ignoring the issue of childhood obesity. Nowadays, not only adults, but the
number of children who are obese are incredibly high. The topic has to be taken more seriously
because it is not only bad for their health obviously but it is also abusive. Youngsters with obesity
will tend to stay obese when they grow up and we can all agree that it is not so pleasant to be in
such circumstances. These children are our worthiest fortune and the world s future generation.
When the time comes, their quality of life and level of happiness will accurately reflect how we
raise them and how much caring and love do we have toward them. Every issue has its own
roots of problems and we have to identify those before heading to find solutions. Definitions:
According to researches over decades, overweight or obese are usually used to describe the
condition of having too much excess body fat. The most common way to measure if someone is
overweight is based on their BMI. Someone with a BMI over 30 will be considered as obese. In
the 21th century where technology has become another irreplaceable factor of life,

How Does Arthur Miller Build Tension in Acts 1 and 2 and...
How does Arthur Miller build tension in Acts 1 and 2 and up to the entrance of George on page
138? Tension is defined as latent hostility , a state of mental or emotional strain on a person. This
is particularly evident in the first two Acts of All My Sons as there are many ways in which
Miller builds tension. He uses the set, symbolism, retrospective exposition, mood and the backdrop
of all American tensions. It is the combination of all of these techniques which culminates in the
overall tension of the first two acts. The opening lines of the play describe the very claustrophobic
setting hedged on right and left by tall closely planted poplars , this immediately sets the scene as
being closed and private with the audience being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chris is described to be without a shirt at the beginning of Act 2 showing the increase in
temperature as the day progresses. Mother also comments on the heat claiming that it s
suffocating upstairs ; this could refer to the tensions building between characters and also the
heat of the day. These are both mimetic of the mood as the arguments are becoming more heated
and more layers are emerging in the lies metaphorically suffocating the characters as more and
more deceit is coated around the truth. The change in lighting acts in a similar way to the
change in heat as the play starts as early morning but by the end of Act 2 it is twilight which
echoes the darkening of the mood and the gradual increase in tension. Miller also uses
retrospective exposition to build tension in the first two acts as the whole action of the play
turns very quickly to trying to find out deep secrets from the past. When Frank Lubey comes
into the yard to talk to the Keller s he starts to dredge up the past by asking questions about the
events: Larry was reported missing on November 25th right? and does Dad expect a parole soon?
These are both simple questions but arouse tension in the plot as answering them brings forth the
inaccuracy surrounding the past. The way the plot revolves around the past is due to Henrik Ibsen
s influence in Miller s work. Ibsen is known for his realistic

Converse College Essay
Converse College is a private college that realized that high tuitions were creating serious problems
for current and potential students to enroll in private colleges. Therefore, Converse was given the
task of motivating middle class students to have the experience of studying in private schools.
CHOICE 1: Reset tuition to a significantly lower price for traditional undergraduate students.
PROS:
Being pioneers in this new business model is an attractive opportunity to stand out from the crowd
as the steady increase in the tuitions in higher educations is a national concern. Therefore, more
students and prospects may be interested in Converse College.
Based on the forecast of increase in tuition fees that Converse College has established, students
could be able to save a considerable amount after a few years. Therefore students would ... Show

PROS:
Certainly, when frizzing student s tuition, they and their families would be sure that their tuition
would not face annual increases.
In addition, this proposal would be attractive to students and cause increased enrollment of middle
class students.
CONS:
A disadvantage is that this proposal is a short term solution to a long term problem. Since the
school has increases in operating costs every year. Therefore, the college has to generate additional
profits to offset these costs.
In addition, future generations would suffer from even higher fees because operating costs would
still require payment. Therefore the cycle of annual tuition increases would start again but now in a
more accelerated manner.
CHOICE 3: Provide students with Loan Repayment Program (LRP), which guarantees that any
student without employment after college would have her loans covered by an insurance policy.
PROS:
This program would alleviate the financial burden for graduate students who have difficulty finding

John Stuart Mill on Liberty and Freedom of Expression
Inhibition of one s liberty, such as their liberty of conscience (i.e. freedom of speech), is unjust
by Millian principles, unless the person s use of deliberation is to voice hate speech. So what is
hate speech? Hate speech is directed towards a member of a group, or the group as a whole, that
vilifies on the basis of the subject s beliefs. In comparison to discriminatory speech, hate speech
does not invoke mere offense, but in most cases is traumatic, and severely impair one s
deliberative capacities, or their mental faculties (judgment, moral preference, intuition, etc...).
Liberties have been established to protect our deliberative abilities, as these are conducive to
achieving happiness, which to Mill is the individual s primary goal. So why should we regulate
hate speech? Although it is important to allow people s freedom of expression, as this is
conducive to promoting one s individuality, hate speech can stigmatize one s character, and for
this reason hate speech is not always morally, or legally permissible. To better understand hate
speech s importance, I will describe Mill s argument in favor of prohibiting hate speech,
following this I will object to Mill s rejection of hate speech, finally, I will show why hate speech
should be regulated, and why allowing it is dangerous to humans, and society as a whole.
Freedom of expression is imperative for improving one s character, but not all forms of opinions ,
such as hate speech, should have full freedom to be

Employee Health Care Benefits Throughout Businesses Essay
Employee Health Care Benefits
One of the main topics of business is Health Care and this discusses Employee Health Care Benefits
throughout businesses. And discusses the benefits an employee has in his or her workplace that
they wish to choose.
The last couple years a lot of controversy has arose because of employee health care benefits and
the lack of it. But the FEHB program has fixed that and now employees can get any type of health
care plan they choose at the beginning of their career. The FEHB is the largest employer sponsored
group health insurance program in the world, covering almost 9 million people including
employees, annuitants, and their family members. The FEHB program offers fee for service plans,
Health Maintenance Organizations, and plans offering a Point of Service product. The FEHB has a
lot of things to offer to employees, such as Group rated premiums and benefits, a Government
contribution towards the cost of your plan, your choice of plans and options, annual enrollment
opportunities called open seasons, guaranteed coverage that your plan can t cancel, no waiting
periods, medical examinations or restrictions because of age or physical condition, and many more
benefits that you may want.

benefits with the Government. Most full time employees only pay twenty five percent of the total
premium that there health care cost. If you are a part time employee,

Rational Choice Theory
The best theory that is best to clarify criminal conduct is Rational choice theory. This theory was
picked specifically in light of the fact that criminal conduct is the same as noncriminal conduct.
This has been looked into on account of individuals perpetrated violations, nobody constrains them
to do anything that he or she wouldn t like to do yet another reason is they surmise that the reward
for the wrongdoing would be more fulfilling to their requirements as opposed to having nothing
and remaining out of inconvenience like noncriminal individuals. Conceded there has been a lot of
research done to make sense of what drives individuals to carry out wrongdoings, keep on doing
the violations and what could really make them stop perpetrate... Show more content on

A current research accomplished for this hypothesis is the death penalty. The thought is that
expresses that who has capital punishment as a discipline ought to have low manslaughter rates
because of the way that death penalty is the most extreme discipline one could get as opposed to life
detainment without the likelihood of parole. Capital punishment is costlier for states that have
capital punishment and where kills in reality live while for states that have kills however don t have
capital punishment, life detainment is the following best alternative. To truly choose if the
discouragement hypothesis works is to direct an exploration on murder rates in various states that
have capital punishment with states that have life detainment. Until this day the confirmation done
by this is not convincing that capital punishment is more successful than life

The Greatest Kings Of Ancient Babylon
There were many leaders who tried to control and ensure power for themselves and their citizens.
Many would go to the extreme to maintain their powers and others would let the people s
influence, influence them. Some places that had leaders were, Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt,
Ancient China, and even India. One of the most important leader back in 1795 BCE was
Hammurabi, but was overthrown in 1750. He was the leader in Babylonbut was taken down by
Assyrians. The Assyrians had taken over Babylon, had made it their own, and have changed so
much. They forced all the people to move out to their Assyrian Kingdom and obey the Assyrian
Kingdom. Hindus practice a religion called hinduism which was formally started in India. Many
people had to live by hinduism because they were born in it. They won t be able to change who
they are, it was basically impossible. King Nebuchadnezzar was one of the greatest kings of
Ancient Babylon. He was considered the best kind because he had restored old religion
monuments and improved waterways. He was able to control the periphery because of him and
his strong and professional army. It is hard just to pick one best leader but most will say that
Hammurabi was the best one, only because of how was able to maintain his city in peace and
maintain his power.

Virginia Woolf Suicide In The Waves
Consumed: Reflections of Virginia Woolf within The Waves Virginia Woolf committed suicide
just ten years after the publication of her novel The Waves. Throughout her life she struggled
with bipolar disorder, anxiety, self imposed isolation, misdiagnosis of her illnesses, repressed or
closeted homosexuality in a time when being gay was illegal, and the deaths of many who she
cared deeply for. Louise DeSalvo wrote a book on the life of Virginia Woolf
and described the

A cathartic moment in The Waves is when the characters learn of Percival s death. Throughout
the book, he symbolizes perfection and stability for many of the characters. He was the person
who held them all together, so when he dies they each must learn to cope with the fragility of
life. Neville sits below a tree refusing to move on and accept the truth that he is gone, Bernard is
numb with guilt as he should be happy for his newborn son but all he feels is sadness for
Percival, and Rhoda throws flowers into the sea for him and contemplates if her own life is worth
living. Each point of view evokes intense feelings of sympathy and perhaps even empathy in the
readers, communicating that this moment is cathartic. At the age of 13, Virginia Woolf also had to
learn to cope with life s insecurities.
The sudden death of her mother threw Virginia into her first major depressive episode and
devastated her entire family. Her father was especially heartbroken and Virginia s siblings had
to take care of him as if he were a child. Just two years later, Stella, Virginia s older sister died and
shortly thereafter her father passed away as well causing another mental breakdown for Woolf.
Once she was able to recover, she began her writing career, closely followed, however, by the
death of her charming and charismatic older brother Thoby, that would someday inspire the
character of Percival ( The Waves

Influence Of Cognitive Biases On Decisions
The influence of cognitive biases on decisions Society once had a conjecture that only
discriminatory people used stereotypes, however, studies in unconscious bias now reveal that
we all are guilty of using stereotypes, all the time, without knowing it. Finally, the antagonist of
equality has been found, and it is us. With a limited perspective, we all have a bias view of the
world, this is because we are only capable of hearing, seeing, and reading what is around us. A
definitive version of reality is not subject to one person. Our position in society helps inform our
world view, such as, our race, class, gender, religion, and culture, impacting how we view,
respond and react to every experience. Often times, decision makers or not aware of their bias,
which can effect the decisions being made. To begin, I will define stereotyping as it is expressed
in modern society and the impact of mass media, then I will explain the process of storing
stereotypes in the brain, I will give a theory of why man kind stereotypes, and then explain how it
effects decision making. Stereotyping is one of many cognitive bias, that allows us to quickly
identify strangers as friends or enemies, and with the use of stereotypes, we classify others as we
interact with them, allowing us to know the proper way to respond (Lebowitz). The scientific
definition of stereotyping is; an exaggerated belief, image or distorted truth about a person or
group. A generalization that allows for little or no

Single payer health plan places the financing with one entity usually the government. One major
advantage of this system is that all Americans and lawful residents would be entitled to benefits
regardless of individual or family income (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Private insurance
plans and government entitlement programs (Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, and the Federal
Employee Health Benefits Program) would no longer be necessary under a single payer system,
although the for some private insurance will remain for those desiring coverage beyond what a
basic government plan might offer (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Health care providers would
be reimbursed on a fee for service scale (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Hospitals, nursing
homes, and other institutional facilities would be given an annual prospective budget to provide
all required care (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Single payer system has to offer two things that

health care was budgeted. There is other ways that have been tried or discussed and they would be

A Conversation between Descartes and Searle
Descartes: One of my greatest powers is the ability to think, considering that it is essentially the
only thing that I am unable to doubt.
Searle: I partly agree to your statement, but I observe that you are inclined to ignore the concept of
technology and the wonders that it can perform. Furthermore, just as you are able to persuade other
individuals in thinking that they make decisions for themselves, it is probable that someone else
influences you and the decisions that you make without allowing you to understand that you are
being manipulated.
D: Oh, but I m afraid that you got the wrong impression regarding my thinking. I did not say that I
cannot be manipulated, as I simply claimed that me being able to doubt everything but my ability
to doubt is equivalent to me having free will. I will always be able to doubt things and this stands
as proof that my mind is different from my body as a consequence of the fact that it is thinking.
S: It is very likely that information that has been produced consequent to your death made it easier
for me to look at things and that I am better prepared to understand how the mind works. As I said,
you tend to ignore the fact that technology has advanced greatly and that the Age of Technology
provides individuals with a lot of information that they can use with the purpose of developing
arguments to support particular points of view.

Saint Matthew Essay
Saint Matthew
The name Matthew comes from the Greek Maththaios, which is derived from the Hebrew or
Aramaic Mattiyah. His name means gift of Yahweh or simply gift of God. Saint Matthew was
one of the twelve apostles and he wrote the Gospel according to Matthew. Although he was a
publican, it is said the Saint Matthew was a Jew. Before his conversion, he was a publican, which
was a tax collector, by profession. Not much is really known about Matthew later on in his life. His
beginning of apostolic activity started in the communities of Palestine. He wrote for his
countrymen in Palestine and composed his Gospel in his native Aramaic. This is refereed to as the

They doubt though that the apostle Matthew wrote the book. Whoever the actual author was, he is
identified as Jewish in origin, because his Gospel contains many references to Jewish Scripture, law,
and ways of life. Although not clear, some authorities think it was Palestine, and others think is was
another early Christian center, possibly the city of Antioch, where it was written.
Matthew s Gospel has been understood as Jewish Christian in outlook. Matthew had a number of
purposes for writing the Gospel. One was to instruct and exhort members of his community. He has
two broad categories of material: narrative and discourse. Many scholars conclude Matthew s
primary intent was to write a handbook for church leaders to assist them in preaching, teaching,
worship, mission, and polemic. In his Gospel, Matthew focused clearly on
Jesus Christ and his kingdom as the good news of salvation. For Matthew, Jesus is not the son of
David, but he is the son of Abraham.
Notable in Matthew is its emphasis on Jesus as the promised Messiah and on matters pertaining to
the church. Evidence that it probably was written for Jewish Christians may be found which is
concerned with representing Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament. The deep interest in the
disciples is emphasized in Matthew. Matthew gives the fullest account of how Jesus called them,
how he instructed them, how they failed him, and

Essay about Edna St. Vincent Millay
Edna St. Vincent Millay
Her career that spanned three decades and her work that ranges from lyrics to verse play and
political commentary. Edna St. Vincent Millay is mostly known for her earlier works, such as
Renascence , Few Figs Thistles, and Second April. Millay wrote about things such as mystical
views on the universe, god, death, celebration of feminism, and free love. It s almost as if she was
a writer from today and with that, I believe that she would be comfortable with today s free
America. Edna St. Vincent Millay was born in Rockland, Maine on February 2, 1892. She was the

At this time Millay and her sister Norma moved to Greenwich Village in New York where
Millay tried to make a living in acting(Millay par. 5). In the Village, Millay found a new side of

James Gray writes, For two decades of her ever rising popularity the twenties and thirties of the

it s determination to discover and to declare a sharply defined identity (Gray;Press 5). It s was
also often pointed out Millay s numerous love affairs as well as the all night parties and their

everyone, but sometimes that s the only way to find themselves. In Millay s case, these
experiences helped her write some of her best poems and plays, because she wrote about reality.
Also, it was rumored that Millay had encounters with the same sex and was criticized for her
experiments, if that to be true; she would be pleased with today s America and how were fighting
and trying to get used to the fact of free love . Millay returned to writing and stuck with it. She was

that; Flicker, a blind girl that is able to see through the eyes of any living thing, was unable to cast

The Effects Of Biofeedback System On Dynamic Balance...
Background: Majority of the previous research that evaluated the effects of biofeedback system on
dynamic balance during walking have been focused on examining the displacement of an
individual s center of mass (COM) position (similar to trunk sway amplitude) or velocity adjusted
center of mass position [Ma et. al., 2016]. Those measurements would be valid for examining
stability during a relatively static task like standing when subjects have similar amount of base of
support throughout the task. But for walking, the amount of base of support is changing stride to
stride. Previous studies also incorporated common clinical assessments (e.g., Berg BalanceScale,
Timed up and Go test, Functional Gait Assessment) to evaluate the effects of biofeedbacksystem on

stability.

Carnivore Case
1. Suppose you found the bones of an unidentified animal. How could you learn about what the
animal ate? What specific structures would give you clues about the creature s diet: The first
thing I would look for is specific traits that would narrow down the two million species list.
Secondly, what kind of animals live in the area (lets say we are in Canada). Obviously an animal
with a spine would be a good indicator that the animal is either a carnivore or a herbivore. But if
we really want to know what an animal eats in general we have to look at the animal s teeth. Let
s say this animal we find has large flat molars fore specifically grinding up plant matter and
cellulose. Then it would be reasonable to assume that the animal we are looking at is a deer. If the
jaw of the animal is capable of moving side to side and not just up and down than it is reasonable
to assume even without looking at the teeth that this animal is a herbivore. If the animal s jaw
can move only up and down, we can safely guess that the animal is mainly a carnivore. Carnivores
need strong locked jaws that are incapable of shifting from side to side so when they are holding
onto prey their jaws can t be broken. Animal s that have large canine teeth with minimal molars are
generally carnivores. This jaw and teeth system isn t set in stone, humans have... Show more content

Truman Doctrine Dbq
U.S. foreign policy throughout the twentieth century was fairly consistent with regards to trade.
Economic benefit to the U.S. in supplying belligerents during the First and Second World Wars left
the nation in relative secure economic condition. However, prior to the implementation of what
became known as the Truman Doctrine, the U.S. generally steered clear of foreign entanglements
unless U.S. security was threatened. The Truman Doctrine was a turning point in U.S. foreign

Essay on Transgenic Rice Plants
For centuries, rice has been one of the most important staple crops for the world and it now
currently feeds more than two billion people, mostly living in developing countries. Rice is the
major food source of Japan and China and it enjoys a long history of use in both cultures. In 1994,
worldwide riceproduction peaked at 530 million metric tons. Yet, more than 200 million tons of
rice are lost each year to biotic stresses such as disease and insect infestation. This extreme loss of
crop is estimated to cost at least several billion dollars per year and heavy losses often leave third
world countries desperate for their staple food.
Therefore, measures must be taken to decrease the amount of crop loss and ... Show more content

selectable marker in this trial was the bacterial phosphinothricin acetyl transferase gene (bar) which
was linked to the cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter. Next the plasmid pTW was
injected into cell cultures of Japonica rice using the
BiolisticTM particle delivery system. The BiolisticTM system proceeds as follows: Immature
embryos and embryonic calli of six rice materials were bombarded with tungsten particles coated
with DNA of two plasmids containing the appropriate genes. The plant materials showed high
frequency of expression of genes when stained with X Gluc. The number of blue or transgenic units

After one week, the transgenic cells were transferred onto selection medium containing hygromycin

white and some cultures were blue.
Isolated cell cultures were further selected on hygromycin resistance. However, no control plant
survived.
Then twenty plates of cells were bombarded with the PINII gene, from which over two hundred
plants were regenerated and grown in a greenhouse. After their growth, they were tested for PINII

Compare And Contrast Classical And Classical Theory
One of the fundamental theories of criminal behavior is the classical theory. This theory dates to
the 18th century with philosopher Cesare Beccaria, who stated that human behavior is driven by
the choice (Bartol Bartol, 2017). The process of making a choice is made through balancing the
weight of pleasure to be gained, against the amount pain or punishment expected by the act. This
concept can also be thought of as free will. Free will is found in the beginning of the Bible, in the
Garden of Eden. Adam and Evewere told they could not eat from the Tree of Good and Evil. Before
eating of the tree Eve was presented with a choice, she could obey Godor disobey him. Through
disobedience she was promised by the serpent that she would gain knowledge. The serpent told
her that if she ate of the tree that, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing
good and evil (Genesis 3:5, New Revised Standard Version). However, she knew that
disobedience could result in death as she had been cautioned by God, for in the day that you eat
of it you shall die (Genesis 2:17, NRSV). Before choosing to eat the fruit, similar to the classical
theory of crime, Eve had to balance the pleasure to be gained versus the punishment. Despite being
forbidden to eat from the tree, Eve made the choice to disobey God.
While classical theory resonates in the Bible, regarding man s free will. I personally lean towards a
combination of the classical theory and the positivist theory.

Woman Of Algiers Essay
The woman of Algiers was a group of North African woman who inspired Delacroix to paint a
portrait of them during his voyage to North Africa. His painting was a great work of art that gave
us the perfect synthesis between romanticism and classicism and let us view the woman in their
relaxed state in the Muslim Haram. Now Eugene Delacroix wasn t the only one to paint the woman
of Algiers, although he was the creator of the original painting. Pablo Picasso was another
influential painter who was inspired by the painting Delacroix did of the women and decided to
create his own unique version. Both the paintings are well known and of the same scene but have

Muslim harems were heavily guarded and so it was difficult to enter one. Delacroix was
fortunate enough to meet a man named Victor Poirel who owned a private harem and so he was
granted his wish to enter and stay for some time and was even given permission to paint several
watercolor sketches. These sketches like mentioned before were painted in morocco, a country
in Northern Africa in 1834. It wasn t made specifically for any one person but was merely a
representation of a lifestyle that was vastly different from the French. Delacroix seemed to be
refreshed by the culture that Morocco presented; from the brightly colored, flowing costumes, the
Arabs and their women, and the enchanting horses all of these seemed to captivate the artist
which inspired this work and many of Delacroix other pieces. From these sketches Delacroix
painted Women of Algiers in their apartment upon his return home and aimed to convey its
serenity and sacredness to the outside world. In the painting we can see four women, three of a

Butler found some important development opportunities for AD: (1) an increase in penetration rate
of AD s CBU among the affiliates by setting up an efficient IT system for purchasing, (2) external
growth opportunities in France by integration of affiliates or acquisitions of independent
wholesalers, (3) expansion opportunities in Europe provided by the fragmentation of the industry,
(4) low competition on acquisitions because of the lack of players able to afford a dynamic build up
strategy, (5) strong growth potential of industrial supplies segment and (6) potential of development
of fleet maintenance and agreements with insurance companies. These opportunities will result in
an increase in gross margins through acquisition of independent wholesalers and integration of
affiliated wholesalers. Furthermore, a reduction of operation costs can be the result, because of the
IT system. With the existence of an efficient IT system, the margins can be improved or the prices
can be cut and these effects are even stronger with consolidation / expanding in the European
market. Besides these opportunities there is an opportunity for an e business market. Butler stated
this as В‘one edge over the competitors . Thus by expanding the business (through e business,
acquisitions, integration) and making use of the new technology systems, AD could realize
significant margin improvement. These high margin improvements are expected to increase from

The staff combines to have an impressive thirty two years of experience in the NFL. (Kenyon

includes his own son. Michigan has a plethora of notable names to their coaches roster. Names
like Jedd Fisch, Tyrone Wheatley, Jay Harbaugh, Michael Zordich, Brian Smith and new coach
Don Brown to name a few. Brown coached the number one defense in the nation last year at
Boston College. He along with the other remarkable coaches has put together a defense that is
unmatched anywhere in the nation. The Michigan defense so far this year has been nothing short
of superb. In their first six games, the defense only allowed two rushing touchdowns and less than
one hundred total rushing yards a game. (Brouwer 1). Outstanding. As sports reviewer Chris
Peterson proclaims in his review for gbmwolevrine.com, [...] when you dive deep into the numbers,
[it is] hard not to call Michigan football s defense the best in the country (3). With their great plays
on defense frustrating opposing offenses game after game, Michigan has definitely rebuilt their
defense. The defense is one of the main reasons why the team is national championship worthy.
Another area that the team is working on is developing their fresh quarterback. Junior Wilton

behavior of Gaga. The video uses numerous stereotypes about women and their behavior both in
public scenarios as well as their sexuality. This includes the lesbian kissing scene, and the
apparent love relationship that builds between Gaga and Knowles in the second half of the
story. Another is the general misleading view that women who are in prison are large and
strong women. This is often not the case. One label that is broken in an attempt of feminism is a
pretty simple stereotype about women. The vehicle that they leave the prison in is a large
Chevrolet pickup truck that says Pussy Wagon on the back. This argues that not only men drive

Sea Oak Analysis
In Sea Oak, George Saunders composes a story that examines social classes by applying satire.
He uses the narrator s Aunt Bernie to teach a valuable lesson about life. The valuable lesson is
that one should appreciate what they have in life my making the most out of it. It is essential for
people to acknowledge what they have, on the grounds that one day it might be gone. In Sea Oak,
Saunders represents two Aunt Bernie s, a before life Aunt Bernie and an after life Aunt Bernie.
With the before life Aunt Bernie, she lives with her nephew, her niece Min, her daughter Jade,
and their babies. Although she experiences poverty, mistreatment, and also lives in an unsafe
neighborhood, she appreciates what she has. She experiences poverty all of her life, and
experiences mistreatment when she takes care of the grandfather; he leaves her with nothing
when he dies. Grandpa needed her to keep the house after Grandma died. Then he died and left
all his money to a woman that none of us had ever heard of. (Saunders, 95). Aunt Bernie was
mistreated because she acts a caretaker and it backfired on her. Aunt Bernie handles the situation
of the grandfather not leaving her money by not reacting, she remained not bitter. In addition to,
Aunt Bernie is appreciative of what life hands her when Saunders describes what she had
received for Christmas one year. When I say I am tired of being broke, she says that Grandpa
once gave her pencils for Christmas. She was so thrilled [that] she sat around sketching horses all
day on the back of used envelopes (Saunders, 95). As Saunders continues to build on the story of
Aunt Bernie s before life, readers want to know, can Aunt Bernie discover a plan in time enough to
remove her family from poverty and living at risk, or will it be too late?

Christine Ross Porphyria s Lover
A feminine voice can sometimes get lost within a dramatic monologue that is being read through
the male speaker. This is something that happens in Robert Browning s dramatic monologue
Porphyria s Lover . A poem in which a man strangles the woman he loves after she s come to visit
him one stormy night. I ve analyzed two critics, Christine Maxwell and Christine Ross. Maxwell
believes that the speaker of the poem has taken on the personality of Othello, in the drama Othello.
Similar in the way that Othello kills Desdemona through suffocation. Maxwell argues that
Browning has projected this kind of insanity into the speaker of the poem. As for Ross, who
argues the speaker didn t kill Porphyria, if not, they were simply exploring sexual desires. Through
female sexual agency and erotic asphyxiation, Browning is demonstrating the speaker relinquishes
Porphyria from social structures. Maxwell compares the storm in Porphyria s Lover to the storm
clouds gathering in Othello (pg. 28).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ross mentions that Porphyria lives in a society that discourages both and that seem to allow only
two alternatives to her sexuality (pg. 71). Alternatives in which she s either a wife or known as a
promiscuous woman. Porphyria is a lady. We know this because the speaker mentions her
removing a shawl, cloak and hat. All of which belong to a lady. This tells us that she shouldn t be
with her lover, it s a forbidden love because of social structures. The fact that he lives in a cottage
means he s part of the lower middle class. If she wasn t seeking reciprocated passion she wouldn t
have left the party and rode to her Lover s cottage to meet with him. Porphyria is a woman who in
the words of Ross is a woman who feels and wishes to act on her sexual desire (pg. 71), because her
sexuality is so easily dismissed by the period it seems to also be dismissed by the

The Case Of Bp Oil Spill
about the dangers of oil and how to clean it up in case it were to get released into the wild.
Mitigation is the actions to reduce or eliminate the risks to people and property from such
hazards and their effects (Haddow et al, 2014). This definition of mitigation seems to say that,
when dealing with risks, they want to greatly reduce any dangers that might come with each
risk, and want to save as many lives or property from severe damage or in some cases death. In
the case of the BP oil spill, one mitigation would be so that no oil would get out and affect the
ocean or marine life. Most oil rigs come with safety standards or protocols in order to mitigate
any dangers it might have, to keep the marine life safe, and the safety of the workers on the oil
rig. Here the lessons learned could apply to the BP oil spill to make sure it didn t happen in the
first place. In fact, the disaster could have been prevented through proper training, education,
and exercises (Haddow et al, 2014). Here we can see that the BP oil spill could have been
prevented if the right precautions were put in place and had the people running the oil rig had
proper training on how to handle an emergency if it were to occur on their watch. The disaster
could also have been prevented through a series of preparedness. Preparedness is the capacity to
respond to a disaster, crisis, or any other type of emergency situation (Haddow et al, 2014). This
definition seems to say that, when we use preparedness, it

forced to stand up, be strong, and assume the role that her late husband had played. She did not ask
anyone for help, instead she did what was called upon her. She was strong and she refused to break
under the extremely large emotional burden and responsibility that had been placed upon her.
Having independence and pride in oneself and the things that they believe in are traditionally
American traits that Therese also has within herself. Therese possessed an independence of thought
exceptional enough when considered in relation to her life and its surrounding conditions. (Chopin)
As a woman who had taken on many challenges and responsibilities, she carried herself with
pride and did not allow the death of her husband or the burden that had come of it distract her
from who she was and what she had to do. Therese was an independent woman who had no qualms

way of that. Eventually, David Hosmer, one of the workers on the plantation,

Compare And Contrast Chris Mccandless And John Brown
Chris McCandless was a young adventurer who went to extreme lengths to finish what he started.
John Brown was an abolitionist, he wanted to overthrow the slavery system. They both had very
strong beliefs and would do anything to maintain them. Both Chris and John died while they were
doing what they thought was right, even though they were two totally different things.
Chris and John were very different people. Chris did things that mainly helped himself, while John
tried to help other people. During John Brown s life he did things that weren t exactly right with
society during that time. He led attacks on proslavery residents, he said that his actions were
because of God, soon he became a hero to the Northern extremists (John
Brown). I told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(John Brown Radical Abolitionist).
They do also have similarities, they both set their mind to something and they don t give up.
Chris had to abandon his car, so he had to find a different type of transportation or he walked. He
also barely had food or money, but he still went on his trip. After loading his few remaining
possessions into a backpack, McCandless set out on July 10 to hike around Lake
Mead. (Krakauer 29). Brown failed at several business ventures before declaring bankruptcy in
1842. Still, he was able to support the abolitionist cause by becoming a conductor on the
Underground Railroad. (John Brown Radical Abolitionist). That shows that he didn t give up even
though he didn t have any money.
All in all Chris and John were very different people. John and Chris both did things that they
thought were right and they did everything in their power to achieve it. They both were very
passionate about what they believed in. Both Chris and John died while they were doing what they

The Trailer For Kill Bill
The trailer for Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), the fourth film directed by Quentin Tarantino, is a fast
paced, violent, and action packed trailer that pays homage to Japanese sword fighting, martial
arts, and gunplay. The main character known as The Bride (Uma Thurman), is a former assassin
whose former lover, Bill (David Carradine) attempted to kill her on her wedding day. After
waking up from a coma, The Bride begins to tell her story about how she was attacked by the
Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, which she was once a part of, while pregnant. The trailer
begins with the click sound of a revolver s hammer being pulled back, and then firing. The
camera is then positioned behind The Bride s butt, as she begins to narrate her story. Frames of
the bullet are shown as she talks, until it hits its victim The Bride. She hits the floor in her
wedding gown, after being shot in the head. A montage of violent sequences that start in an
average suburban neighborhood, where she fights Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox) in her own
home, and leads to a Tokyo nightclub bloodbath, where she fights yakuza boss O Ren Ishii (Lucy
Liu). Contrary to your average movie trailer involving action and violence, the perpetrators of
these violent acts are the female characters, instead of the male characters. The protagonist is on a
path of retribution against the assassins who crashed her wedding and attempted to kill her, but
despite the fact that there is a male member of the Deadly Viper

The Life of Isaac Newton
Throughout the span of Isaac Newton s life time, he accomplished, dreamed, and achieved what
others thought were impossible. He was a curious man, with a passion to learn and discover the
undiscovered. Newton uncovered scientific answers that lead the way to influential discoveries in
motion and mathematics, optics, and also physics. He was not only an educated physicist and
mathematician, but experienced and established in his frame of study. To say Newton was just a
scientist would be an understatement, he was one of the great minds of the 17th century Scientific
Revolution (Source 3). Isaac Newtonwas born in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England on January
4, 1643. He was born as a premature baby and no one expected him to live. Newton s father
passed away three months before he was born. When Sir Newton was only three years old, his
mother, Hannah Newton, abandon her son and ran off to marry her second husband. Newton was
left to be raised by his maternal grandmother. One thoughtless action of his mother, manifested into
a sense of abandonment, irrational behavior, and also and insecurity issues for this young boy.
When Newton was twelve years old, his mother returned with three step children, after her second
husband died. She pulled Newton out of school, for she wanted him to practice farming, thinking
he could make a fine career out of it. Poor Newton hated farming and found it as such a tedious
task. His mother soon enrolled him back into school to

Functional Family Dynamic Analysis
To form a functional family dynamic a household must provide all six main components of the
Vanier Institute of the Family. If one of these areas is lacking or missing the entire system will
break down and weaken the relationship between family members. It s important to analyze each
aspect in correlation to the familyhousehold to get a better view of the strengths and weaknesses as
a group and form a stronger bond with relatives. My motherand father both had two daughters each
from a previous marriagebefore conceiving me. I am their only child together, and the only child

If a worker at a business suddenly suffers an injury they aren t forced to work through the pain. It
is unethical to hold someone ill to the same standards they were held to before. If someone in
my family breaks a bone, or has the flu, they aren t expected to perform independently. Members
of the family are obligated to help as much as needed to make sure the injured and/or ill recover
and receive the necessary care. If a child is never taught socialization they are neglected. In
extreme cases feral children may never establish the ability to speak. Growing up with four older
stepsisters I learned to prioritize verbal communication for self expression. I had them to look up to
and learn from. In an institution like elementary school a child has peers and an authority figure
that rewards good behavior. I also had this environment at home. Power is equally split between my
mother and father in an egalitarian relationship. As the youngest, I have always had the least
amount of authority (and also the least responsibility). An example of this hierarchy would be an
diarchy government (possibly borderline totalitarian) where two leaders rule as counterparts. An
institution where control is held between two figures represents my household

Double double toil and trouble. Those words are said In act 1 by what people call now a days,

back of our minds at night but especially in the book, Macbeth. Birds may not be supernatural but
they are also mentioned many times in both Macbethand Beautiful

Evil is shown through the use of the supernatural beings and internal conflicts. The Supernatural has
been alive for many years, even in the 1600 s there were things like witches and ghouls. The
supernatural is shown throughout the play Macbeth; the three witches or the ghost of Banquo could

Evaluation Of Teaching And Advising Essay
Statement on Approach to Teaching and Advising Much has evolved since my initial years at
South Dakota State University when I had no teaching appointment. During those initial years I
took advantage of any available opportunity to increase my college level teaching experience
mostly in the form of guest lectures in ABS 704 and other courses where I lectured on Plant
Functional Genomics and Abiotic Stresses. Based on this experience, I developed Independent
Study opportunities for interested students in wheat molecular breeding and in plant genomics.
Interest in this area was strong enough that I expanded it into a regular course and offered it as a
special topic ( Introduction to Plant Genomics ) starting in the fall of 2009. Those early years
afforded me time and opportunities to informally interact with diverse faculty to keep maturing my
teaching philosophy and approaches. Although most of my teaching in the last years is at the
graduate level, I have a special consideration for ABS482 582, an international experience to
discover the agricultural industry in Argentina. In 2007, I was part of the team that developed this
course. Unfortunately, due to an important health problem in my family I was not able to attend the
first trip. Later on, in 2011, due to unexpected faculty turnover, I was able to co lead the course.
During the fall semester the students attended introductory lectures in Argentinian agriculture,
economics, politics, culture and basic Spanish skills.

Michael Moore Discussion Questions
Michael Moore is a wonderful director but, I honestly don t think he deserve this award for Best
Documentary Feature Film Because during his documentary he chose two random interview that
so ever had no significance to each other. Moore takes seven different sentences from five
different parts of Heston s speech and splices them together to create one speech. Not to mention
the infamous line from my cold, dead hands. This line was actually taken from a speech a year
later when Heston was presented with a hand made musket, One of those scenes was Charles
Heston holding a gun wearing a different type of tie with a different color at the rally conference.
The other scene showed him not holding a gun with a different tie and a different suit .... Show more

Another Reason is he acted dumb when he went to buy a gun so that he can target the people
who he was asking the questions about guns also,by asking a rhetorical question he targeted them
so that when they answer he can use their answer in a negative way. Although that is a smart
move on him to do that I personally don t think it s a clever move because he wasn t once again
proving how the shooting of colorado had an effect on that since that s why his movie Bowling For
Columbine was about. Before the movie can even get under way, Michael Moore is already lying to
the audience. Michael Moore is trying to show how easy it is to get a gun. There is a bank in
Northern Michigan that offers a deal where, if you start a bank account, they hand you a gun.
What Michael Moore doesn t show is the fact that it takes several weeks and two background
checks to get his gun. It takes at least two weeks to get the gun he wants. There is also no gun
inventory from the bank as Michael Moore

Organizational Structure Of A Corporation
Appex Corporation
When Ghosh joined Appex, he walked into a company full of chaos with no definable structure.
The rapidly growing company was ill equipped to manage its growth at the rate it was expanding.
There were no formal policies or structures in place to manage this exponential growth. As the
number of products increased the lack of structure became more pronounced. The work became
mostly crisis management, leading to a decline in customer focus and production. Additionally,
finances were not managed with any planning or structure causing Appex to lose money rapidly.
Ghosh, eager to test his skills, attempted several organizational structures to stabilize Appex.
Circular Structure
Circular structure is a nonhierarchical organization structure with the senior executives in the
center. The circle centers on the executives, followed by the managers, then employees, and then
the customers. Ghosh used this system as an attempt to create a continuous flow of information
through the organization. One problem identified was that current employees could not relate and
new hires did not understand. New hires looked for a hierarchical structure to understand the flow
of power for decisions and their performance evaluation but were unable to identify such within this
organizational structure. Additionally, this structure did not formalize any type of business planning.

Green Symbolism In The Great Gatsby
Looking Green, Old Sport Throughout literature, colors are used to represent feelings, emotions
and actions of characters. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the color green
is used to represent the love story between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. As he grew up and
worked for his immense fortune, Gatsby transformed his life into one he felt would impress her
the most. Fitzgerald uses the color green to represent Gatsby s perfect image of Daisy, and the
greed that engulfs the couple throughout the entire novel. Green often is used to represent a fresh
start someone experiences after a large change, and the change could be due to a single individual.
One day, Jordan tells Nick a memory of her walking along a green lawn when... Show more content

The iconic green light s meaning also changed for Gatsby. While he used to see the symbol of
his love and hopes for Daisy in the green light, but now it occurred to him that the colossal
significance of that light had now vanished forever, and Nick continues to describe that now it
was a green light on a dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one (93). For
years Gatsby sought a change in his life, and he hoped the change would finally get the love of
his life back, but the change he needed was to let himself begin to move on. Fitzgerald used
green to show a new beginning, and now Gatsby was achieving his own. During October, Nick
finally moves away from the Late Mr. Gatsby s home. In addition, Jordan tells Daisy life starts
all over again when it gets crisp in the fall (118) during an earlier section in the novel. Autumn is
the time of year when green leaves and grass fade to a yellow and brown to die, symbolizing the
feeling Gatsby felt for Daisy dying along with him. The last time Gatsby was even seen was when
he disappeared among the yellowing trees (161). His final moments were spent walking among
green trees that were beginning to fade to yellow, like the way his perfect image of Daisy and his
love for her faded as well. The color green became a symbol of a restart, like how Gatsby felt after
he let himself begin to move on from

Authentication System for Identifying Internet Users
OpenID is a decentralized, single sign on authentication system for internet sites that require
authentication for use. It was developed out of the need to create a different, easier and more
secure, type of authentication system than using a password. OpenID was developed using the
open source software model to be an interoperable protocol independent from any single
organization OpenIDallows users to log into websites with one single ID, instead of the user
having to create and manage multiple accounts. To use OpenID, a user must first register with a
website that supports OpenID. When viewing other sites that use OpenID, the user logs in with a
redirect to a secure URL. With OpenID, the user s email address will be available to websites
requesting authentication, however it s not the identifier. OpenID uses URLs as an identity; users
will leave a site and return after authenticating with a third party website. The user would connect
to an OpenID enabled website, enter credential information, and then a POST is made with a
BASE64 which is a website to provider request. The website would then redirect the user to the
providers for login. The user s passwordwould be entered in automatically by OpenID and
submitted; once verification is done the user is logged in to the site. Currently there are over one
billion OpenID user accounts and over 50,000 websites that use OpenID.
As illustrated below, OpenID has three basic features: a user with a Web browser, a Relying Party or

Rose For Emily Isolation
A Rose for Emily is a short story written by William Faulkner. The story follows a southern town
after the civil war and with the death of Miss Emily. As the town gossips about the mysterious
house that no one has been inside for the past ten years, the secrets that Miss Emily had been
hiding in the house is also discussed. The story then picks up before Emily s death when her
father dies. After being in denial that her father is gone, she meets a man, Homer, and begins
dating him. Shortly after, Emily buys an arsenic and invites Homer to her house, even though he
is not the marrying type. The town never see s Homer after that night and rarely sees Emily. A
smell starts to arise from the house and her taxes pile up. Ten years later, Miss Emily dies and the
town finally goes inside. What they find is a man s skeleton on a dusty bed and, next to it, a strand
of gray hair. Faulkner s story demonstrates to readers how isolation and living the past can... Show

The South said goodbye to slavery and started to become industrialized. Many, including Miss
Emily, did not like it. Faulkner pays close attention to the dying south and uses specific
elements, like the old southern house, to symbolize living in the past. In addition to the house,
Homer, a Yankee, is introduced into Emily s life. Perhaps she killed Homer because he
represented change and the north, or perhaps she was just crazy. Either way Miss Emily had an
issue of clinginess. For three days after her father s death, she refused to believe that he was
gone. She also kept Homers body for ten years, maybe because she was upset that her father was
taken away. Although Emily s father rejected any man that she brought over, perhaps keeping
Homer was a way to get what she always wanted, a man in her life. The reasons behind Emily s
psychological behaviors vary. Although Miss Emily was already crazy, isolating herself was the
true cause of her destruction and sick

The Legacy Of Louisiana Purchase
Louisiana Purchase, more prominently known as an acquisition that doubled the size of the country
we reside in, was much more than just a simple purchase, much less an easy one. Thomas Jefferson
had to consider all the aspects, consequences, and effects that the decision of buying 2,144,500
square kilometers of land would have on the country (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia 1). This
purchase brought many improvements to the country, but also had unexpected consequences that
would transform the country as a whole. Although Jefferson s decision was considered a mistake
by some Federalists and caused conflicts with Spain, it was actually a step forward towards the
respectable and prosperous country that many had envisioned the United Statesto be because it
doubled the magnitude of opportunities, solved the initial conflict of attaining the port of New
Orleans (thus continuing trade), removed France s colonial power from North America, which
made the United States the dominant influence in North America and, most significantly, secured
new western territory, which led to westward expansion (Loos).
The Louisiana Purchase, by doubling the size of the country, also doubled the size of opportunities
overnight, becoming a pull factor for the residents of the country and people Asia and Europe. This
led to more economic opportunities and an assimilation of more cultures. The United States became
ever more prosperous through this purchase, but with every decision there are unexpected

Solving The Problem Of An Aging Prison Population
Solving the Problem of an Aging Prison Population
Joshua N. Handy
American Military University Abstract
The American correctional system is facing many emerging issues. One of these issues is the
exponential increase in aging offenders. In the past few decades, the number of geriatric offenders
incarcerated has multiplied at an increasing rate. This essay addresses the issue of aging offenders
in the correctional system; the problems that these offenders create and the underlying issues
related to the aging prisoner population as they relate to correctional management. This essay also
proposes a solution to the problem.
Solving the Problem of an Aging Prison Population The United States of America has the largest
corrections system in the world. The incarceration rate in the U.S. is over one in every one hundred
citizens, the highest ratio in the world. The population of prisoners is expanding at a rate at which
the U.S. correction system can just manage. The introductions of three strikes , tougher sentences,
and mandatory minimum sentence laws have vastly contributed to growth in prison population.
Inmates serving mandatory longer sentences are a part of one the biggest growing concerns with
the American correctional system, an aging population with increased needs. Between 1981 and
2010, the number of U.S. prisoners age 55 and over increased from 8,853 to 124,900 (Criminal
Justice Hub, n.d.). If the problem is not addressed and the rate continues to grow, by

Real GDP is the value of final goods and services produced in a given year when valued at the prices of a reference base year; Nominal GDP is the value of final goods and services produced in a given year when valued at the prices of that year. The maximum level of real GDP that can be produced while avoiding shortages of labour, capital, land and entrepreneurial ability that would bring rising inflation is called potential GDP (McTaggart, Findlay Parkin, 2012). In this essay, GDP stands for real GDP, and real GDP can be calculated by either the expenditure approach or the income approach. In this essay, the expenditure approach will be used. Aggregate expenditure describes the relationship between total consumption and national income. It can be calculated with a formula: AE = C + I + G + NX. In this formula, the C stands for household consumption, the I stands for investment expenditure, the G stands for government expenditure and the NX stands for net export expenditure. The Causes Of Childhood Obesity Causes of Childhood Obesity Imagine yourself walking into a kindergarten class, and all you see are obese children not walking, but moving on wheels because they simply cannot walk anymore due to their excess body weight. Their legs are so weak since they have to handle so much more weight than what they are designed to do. This vision may no longer be fictional if the world keeps ignoring the issue of childhood obesity. Nowadays, not only adults, but the number of children who are obese are incredibly high. The topic has to be taken more seriously because it is not only bad for their health obviously but it is also abusive. Youngsters with obesity will tend to stay obese when they grow up and we can all agree that it is not so pleasant to be in such circumstances. These children are our worthiest fortune and the world s future generation. When the time comes, their quality of life and level of happiness will accurately reflect how we raise them and how much caring and love do we have toward them. Every issue has its own roots of problems and we have to identify those before heading to find solutions. • 7. How Does Arthur Miller Build Tension in Acts 1 and 2 and... How does Arthur Miller build tension in Acts 1 and 2 and up to the entrance of George on page 138? Tension is defined as latent hostility , a state of mental or emotional strain on a person. This is particularly evident in the first two Acts of All My Sons as there are many ways in which Miller builds tension. He uses the set, symbolism, retrospective exposition, mood and the backdrop of all American tensions. It is the combination of all of these techniques which culminates in the overall tension of the first two acts. The opening lines of the play describe the very claustrophobic setting hedged on right and left by tall closely planted poplars , this immediately sets the scene as being closed and private with the audience being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chris is described to be without a shirt at the beginning of Act 2 showing the increase in temperature as the day progresses. Mother also comments on the heat claiming that it s suffocating upstairs ; this could refer to the tensions building between characters and also the heat of the day. These are both mimetic of the mood as the arguments are becoming more heated and more layers are emerging in the lies metaphorically suffocating the characters as more and more deceit is coated around the truth. The change in lighting acts in a similar way to the change in heat as the play starts as early morning but by the end of Act 2 it is twilight which echoes the darkening of the mood and the gradual increase in tension. Miller also uses retrospective exposition to build tension in the first two acts as the whole action of the play turns very quickly to trying to find out deep secrets from the past. When Frank Lubey comes into the yard to talk to the Keller s he starts to dredge up the past by asking questions about the events: Larry was reported missing on November 25th right? and does Dad expect a parole soon? These are both simple questions but arouse tension in the plot as answering them brings forth the inaccuracy surrounding the past. The way the plot revolves around the past is due to Henrik Ibsen s influence in Miller s work. Ibsen is known for his realistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, the college has to generate additional profits to offset these costs. In addition, future generations would suffer from even higher fees because operating costs would still require payment. • 9. John Stuart Mill on Liberty and Freedom of Expression Inhibition of one s liberty, such as their liberty of conscience (i.e. freedom of speech), is unjust by Millian principles, unless the person s use of deliberation is to voice hate speech. So what is hate speech? Hate speech is directed towards a member of a group, or the group as a whole, that vilifies on the basis of the subject s beliefs. In comparison to discriminatory speech, hate speech does not invoke mere offense, but in most cases is traumatic, and severely impair one s deliberative capacities, or their mental faculties (judgment, moral preference, intuition, etc...). Liberties have been established to protect our deliberative abilities, as these are conducive to achieving happiness, which to Mill is the individual s primary goal. So why should we regulate hate speech? Although it is important to allow people s freedom of expression, as this is conducive to promoting one s individuality, hate speech can stigmatize one s character, and for this reason hate speech is not always morally, or legally permissible. To better understand hate speech s importance, I will describe Mill s argument in favor of prohibiting hate speech, following this I will object to Mill s rejection of hate speech, finally, I will show why hate speech should be regulated, and why allowing it is dangerous to humans, and society as a whole. Freedom of expression is imperative for improving one s character, but not all forms of opinions , such as hate speech, should have full freedom to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout her life she struggled with bipolar disorder, anxiety, self imposed isolation, misdiagnosis of her illnesses, repressed or closeted homosexuality in a time when being gay was illegal, and the deaths of many who she cared deeply for. Louise DeSalvo wrote a book on the life of Virginia Woolf and described the pattern that much of her childhood followed, Sexual violence. Hopeless sadness. Powerlessness. Horrible depression. Neville sits below a tree refusing to move on and accept the truth that he is gone, Bernard is numb with guilt as he should be happy for his newborn son but all he feels is sadness for Percival, and Rhoda throws flowers into the sea for him and contemplates if her own life is worth living. Each point of view evokes intense feelings of sympathy and perhaps even empathy in the readers, communicating that this moment is cathartic. At the age of 13, Virginia Woolf also had to learn to cope with life s insecurities. The sudden death of her mother threw Virginia into her first major depressive episode and devastated her entire family. Her father was especially heartbroken and Virginia s siblings had to take care of him as if he were a child. Just two years later, Stella, Virginia s older sister died and shortly thereafter her father passed away as well causing another mental breakdown for Woolf. Finally, the antagonist of equality has been found, and it is us. With a limited perspective, we all have a bias view of the world, this is because we are only capable of hearing, seeing, and reading what is around us. A definitive version of reality is not subject to one person. Our position in society helps inform our world view, such as, our race, class, gender, religion, and culture, impacting how we view, respond and react to every experience. Often times, decision makers or not aware of their bias, which can effect the decisions being made. To begin, I will define stereotyping as it is expressed in modern society and the impact of mass media, then I will explain the process of storing stereotypes in the brain, I will give a theory of why man kind stereotypes, and then explain how it effects decision making. Stereotyping is one of many cognitive bias, that allows us to quickly identify strangers as friends or enemies, and with the use of stereotypes, we classify others as we interact with them, allowing us to know the proper way to respond (Lebowitz). Matthew s Gospel has been understood as Jewish Christian in outlook. Matthew had a number of purposes for writing the Gospel. One was to instruct and exhort members of his community. He has two broad categories of material: narrative and discourse. Many scholars conclude Matthew s primary intent was to write a handbook for church leaders to assist them in preaching, teaching, worship, mission, and polemic. In his Gospel, Matthew focused clearly on Jesus Christ and his kingdom as the good news of salvation. For Matthew, Jesus is not the son of David, but he is the son of Abraham. Notable in Matthew is its emphasis on Jesus as the promised Messiah and on matters pertaining to the church. Evidence that it probably was written for Jewish Christians may be found which is concerned with representing Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament. • 21. The Effects Of Biofeedback System On Dynamic Balance... Background: Majority of the previous research that evaluated the effects of biofeedback system on dynamic balance during walking have been focused on examining the displacement of an individual s center of mass (COM) position (similar to trunk sway amplitude) or velocity adjusted center of mass position [Ma et. al., 2016]. Those measurements would be valid for examining stability during a relatively static task like standing when subjects have similar amount of base of support throughout the task. But for walking, the amount of base of support is changing stride to stride. Previous studies also incorporated common clinical assessments (e.g., Berg BalanceScale, Timed up and Go test, Functional Gait Assessment) to evaluate the effects of biofeedbacksystem on user s balance and gait [Lipsitz et. al., 2015]. For example, Berg Balance Scale examines an individual s ability of quiet standing, turning, single leg standing, making transitions between sitting and standing, and transferring between a bed and a chair. However, those assessments may not reflect an individual s dynamic balance level during continuous walking or walking related activities. In addition, the activities as performed in those assessments may be insufficient to capture complex walking dynamics and thus, unable to accurately assess an individual s walking stability. Implementing several state of the art dynamic stability analyses along with the standard gait analysis enables a comprehensive assessment on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What specific structures would give you clues about the creature s diet: The first thing I would look for is specific traits that would narrow down the two million species list. Secondly, what kind of animals live in the area (lets say we are in Canada). Obviously an animal with a spine would be a good indicator that the animal is either a carnivore or a herbivore. But if we really want to know what an animal eats in general we have to look at the animal s teeth. Let s say this animal we find has large flat molars fore specifically grinding up plant matter and cellulose. Then it would be reasonable to assume that the animal we are looking at is a deer. If the jaw of the animal is capable of moving side to side and not just up and down than it is reasonable to assume even without looking at the teeth that this animal is a herbivore. If the animal s jaw can move only up and down, we can safely guess that the animal is mainly a carnivore. Carnivores need strong locked jaws that are incapable of shifting from side to side so when they are holding onto prey their jaws can t be broken. Animal s that have large canine teeth with minimal molars are generally carnivores. This jaw and teeth system isn t set in stone, humans have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 27. Compare And Contrast Classical And Classical Theory One of the fundamental theories of criminal behavior is the classical theory. This theory dates to the 18th century with philosopher Cesare Beccaria, who stated that human behavior is driven by the choice (Bartol Bartol, 2017). The process of making a choice is made through balancing the weight of pleasure to be gained, against the amount pain or punishment expected by the act. This concept can also be thought of as free will. Free will is found in the beginning of the Bible, in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Evewere told they could not eat from the Tree of Good and Evil. Before eating of the tree Eve was presented with a choice, she could obey Godor disobey him. Through disobedience she was promised by the serpent that she would gain knowledge. The serpent told her that if she ate of the tree that, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:5, New Revised Standard Version). However, she knew that disobedience could result in death as she had been cautioned by God, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die (Genesis 2:17, NRSV). Before choosing to eat the fruit, similar to the classical theory of crime, Eve had to balance the pleasure to be gained versus the punishment. Despite being forbidden to eat from the tree, Eve made the choice to disobey God. While classical theory resonates in the Bible, regarding man s free will. They have somewhat of a sensual conversation before leaving the prison about the recent behavior of Gaga. The video uses numerous stereotypes about women and their behavior both in public scenarios as well as their sexuality. This includes the lesbian kissing scene, and the apparent love relationship that builds between Gaga and Knowles in the second half of the story. Another is the general misleading view that women who are in prison are large and strong women. This is often not the case. One label that is broken in an attempt of feminism is a pretty simple stereotype about women. The vehicle that they leave the prison in is a large Chevrolet pickup truck that says Pussy Wagon on the back. This argues that not only men drive big trucks. • 34. Sea Oak Analysis In Sea Oak, George Saunders composes a story that examines social classes by applying satire. He uses the narrator s Aunt Bernie to teach a valuable lesson about life. The valuable lesson is that one should appreciate what they have in life my making the most out of it. It is essential for people to acknowledge what they have, on the grounds that one day it might be gone. In Sea Oak, Saunders represents two Aunt Bernie s, a before life Aunt Bernie and an after life Aunt Bernie. With the before life Aunt Bernie, she lives with her nephew, her niece Min, her daughter Jade, and their babies. Although she experiences poverty, mistreatment, and also lives in an unsafe neighborhood, she appreciates what she has. She experiences poverty all of her life, and experiences mistreatment when she takes care of the grandfather; he leaves her with nothing when he dies. Grandpa needed her to keep the house after Grandma died. Then he died and left all his money to a woman that none of us had ever heard of. (Saunders, 95). Aunt Bernie was mistreated because she acts a caretaker and it backfired on her. Aunt Bernie handles the situation of the grandfather not leaving her money by not reacting, she remained not bitter. In addition to, Aunt Bernie is appreciative of what life hands her when Saunders describes what she had received for Christmas one year. When I say I am tired of being broke, she says that Grandpa once gave her pencils for Christmas. She was so thrilled [that] she sat around sketching horses all day on the back of used envelopes (Saunders, 95). As Saunders continues to build on the story of Aunt Bernie s before life, readers want to know, can Aunt Bernie discover a plan in time enough to remove her family from poverty and living at risk, or will it be too late? In Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic, Alison Bechdel composes a graphic memoir to inform readers about her journey of coming out as a lesbian to her parents. • 37. Christine Ross Porphyria s Lover A feminine voice can sometimes get lost within a dramatic monologue that is being read through the male speaker. This is something that happens in Robert Browning s dramatic monologue Porphyria s Lover . A poem in which a man strangles the woman he loves after she s come to visit him one stormy night. I ve analyzed two critics, Christine Maxwell and Christine Ross. Maxwell believes that the speaker of the poem has taken on the personality of Othello, in the drama Othello. Similar in the way that Othello kills Desdemona through suffocation. Maxwell argues that Browning has projected this kind of insanity into the speaker of the poem. As for Ross, who argues the speaker didn t kill Porphyria, if not, they were simply exploring sexual desires. Through female sexual agency and erotic asphyxiation, Browning is demonstrating the speaker relinquishes Porphyria from social structures. • 38. The Case Of Bp Oil Spill about the dangers of oil and how to clean it up in case it were to get released into the wild. Mitigation is the actions to reduce or eliminate the risks to people and property from such hazards and their effects (Haddow et al, 2014). This definition of mitigation seems to say that, when dealing with risks, they want to greatly reduce any dangers that might come with each risk, and want to save as many lives or property from severe damage or in some cases death. In the case of the BP oil spill, one mitigation would be so that no oil would get out and affect the ocean or marine life. Most oil rigs come with safety standards or protocols in order to mitigate any dangers it might have, to keep the marine life safe, and the safety of the workers on the oil rig. Here the lessons learned could apply to the BP oil spill to make sure it didn t happen in the first place. In fact, the disaster could have been prevented through proper training, education, and exercises (Haddow et al, 2014). Here we can see that the BP oil spill could have been prevented if the right precautions were put in place and had the people running the oil rig had proper training on how to handle an emergency if it were to occur on their watch. The disaster could also have been prevented through a series of preparedness. Preparedness is the capacity to respond to a disaster, crisis, or any other type of emergency situation (Haddow et al, 2014). This definition seems to say that, when we use preparedness, it ... During those initial years I took advantage of any available opportunity to increase my college level teaching experience mostly in the form of guest lectures in ABS 704 and other courses where I lectured on Plant Functional Genomics and Abiotic Stresses. Based on this experience, I developed Independent Study opportunities for interested students in wheat molecular breeding and in plant genomics. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the color green is used to represent the love story between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. As he grew up and worked for his immense fortune, Gatsby transformed his life into one he felt would impress her the most. Fitzgerald uses the color green to represent Gatsby s perfect image of Daisy, and the greed that engulfs the couple throughout the entire novel. Green often is used to represent a fresh start someone experiences after a large change, and the change could be due to a single individual. One day, Jordan tells Nick a memory of her walking along a green lawn when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The iconic green light s meaning also changed for Gatsby. While he used to see the symbol of his love and hopes for Daisy in the green light, but now it occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished forever, and Nick continues to describe that now it was a green light on a dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one (93). For years Gatsby sought a change in his life, and he hoped the change would finally get the love of his life back, but the change he needed was to let himself begin to move on. Fitzgerald used green to show a new beginning, and now Gatsby was achieving his own. During October, Nick finally moves away from the Late Mr. Gatsby s home. In addition, Jordan tells Daisy life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall (118) during an earlier section in the novel. Autumn is the time of year when green leaves and grass fade to a yellow and brown to die, symbolizing the feeling Gatsby felt for Daisy dying along with him. The last time Gatsby was even seen was when he disappeared among the yellowing trees (161). His final moments were spent walking among green trees that were beginning to fade to yellow, like the way his perfect image of Daisy and his love for her faded as well. The color green became a symbol of a restart, like how Gatsby felt after he let himself begin to move on from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Authentication System for Identifying Internet Users OpenID is a decentralized, single sign on authentication system for internet sites that require authentication for use. It was developed out of the need to create a different, easier and more secure, type of authentication system than using a password. OpenID was developed using the open source software model to be an interoperable protocol independent from any single organization OpenIDallows users to log into websites with one single ID, instead of the user having to create and manage multiple accounts. To use OpenID, a user must first register with a website that supports OpenID. When viewing other sites that use OpenID, the user logs in with a redirect to a secure URL. With OpenID, the user s email address will be available to websites requesting authentication, however it s not the identifier. OpenID uses URLs as an identity; users will leave a site and return after authenticating with a third party website. The user would connect to an OpenID enabled website, enter credential information, and then a POST is made with a BASE64 which is a website to provider request. The website would then redirect the user to the providers for login. The user s passwordwould be entered in automatically by OpenID and submitted; once verification is done the user is logged in to the site. Currently there are over one billion OpenID user accounts and over 50,000 websites that use OpenID. As illustrated below, OpenID has three basic features: a user with a Web browser, a Relying Party or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Rose For Emily Isolation A Rose for Emily is a short story written by William Faulkner. The story follows a southern town after the civil war and with the death of Miss Emily. As the town gossips about the mysterious house that no one has been inside for the past ten years, the secrets that Miss Emily had been hiding in the house is also discussed. The story then picks up before Emily s death when her father dies. After being in denial that her father is gone, she meets a man, Homer, and begins dating him. Shortly after, Emily buys an arsenic and invites Homer to her house, even though he is not the marrying type. The town never see s Homer after that night and rarely sees Emily. A smell starts to arise from the house and her taxes pile up. Ten years later, Miss Emily dies and the town finally goes inside. What they find is a man s skeleton on a dusty bed and, next to it, a strand of gray hair. Faulkner s story demonstrates to readers how isolation and living the past can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The South said goodbye to slavery and started to become industrialized. Many, including Miss Emily, did not like it. Faulkner pays close attention to the dying south and uses specific elements, like the old southern house, to symbolize living in the past. In addition to the house, Homer, a Yankee, is introduced into Emily s life. Perhaps she killed Homer because he represented change and the north, or perhaps she was just crazy. Either way Miss Emily had an issue of clinginess. For three days after her father s death, she refused to believe that he was gone. She also kept Homers body for ten years, maybe because she was upset that her father was taken away. Although Emily s father rejected any man that she brought over, perhaps keeping Homer was a way to get what she always wanted, a man in her life. The reasons behind Emily s psychological behaviors vary. Although Miss Emily was already crazy, isolating herself was the true cause of her destruction and sick ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Legacy Of Louisiana Purchase Louisiana Purchase, more prominently known as an acquisition that doubled the size of the country we reside in, was much more than just a simple purchase, much less an easy one. Thomas Jefferson had to consider all the aspects, consequences, and effects that the decision of buying 2,144,500 square kilometers of land would have on the country (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia 1). This purchase brought many improvements to the country, but also had unexpected consequences that would transform the country as a whole. Although Jefferson s decision was considered a mistake by some Federalists and caused conflicts with Spain, it was actually a step forward towards the respectable and prosperous country that many had envisioned the United Statesto be because it doubled the magnitude of opportunities, solved the initial conflict of attaining the port of New Orleans (thus continuing trade), removed France s colonial power from North America, which made the United States the dominant influence in North America and, most significantly, secured new western territory, which led to westward expansion (Loos). The Louisiana Purchase, by doubling the size of the country, also doubled the size of opportunities overnight, becoming a pull factor for the residents of the country and people Asia and Europe. This led to more economic opportunities and an assimilation of more cultures. The United States became ever more prosperous through this purchase, but with every decision there are unexpected ... • 54. Solving The Problem Of An Aging Prison Population Solving the Problem of an Aging Prison Population Joshua N. Handy American Military University Abstract The American correctional system is facing many emerging issues. One of these issues is the exponential increase in aging offenders. In the past few decades, the number of geriatric offenders incarcerated has multiplied at an increasing rate. This essay addresses the issue of aging offenders in the correctional system; the problems that these offenders create and the underlying issues related to the aging prisoner population as they relate to correctional management. This essay also proposes a solution to the problem. Solving the Problem of an Aging Prison Population The United States of America has the largest corrections system in the world. The incarceration rate in the U.S. is over one in every one hundred citizens, the highest ratio in the world. The population of prisoners is expanding at a rate at which the U.S. correction system can just manage. The introductions of three strikes , tougher sentences, and mandatory minimum sentence laws have vastly contributed to growth in prison population. Inmates serving mandatory longer sentences are a part of one the biggest growing concerns with the American correctional system, an aging population with increased needs. Between 1981 and 2010, the number of U.S. prisoners age 55 and over increased from 8,853 to 124,900 (Criminal Justice Hub, n.d.). If the problem is not addressed and the rate continues to grow, by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
