The Effects of Agent Orange on Veterans of the Vietnam...
Almost thirty years after the last troops were pulled out of what was then South Vietnam, its effects
are still felt in today s society. It is hard not to find someone who s life has not been affected because
of this war. One of the most controversial decisions made in the war was to use chemicals to fight the
enemy. The most boradly used chemiucal was called Agent Orange. Some people agreed with the use
of Agent Orange. They saw it as a very viable weapon that needed to be used in order to keep the
Communist from taking control of South Vietnam and subverting their democratic government. Many
others disapproved of its use. They knew, correctly, that it would severely devastate the landscape of
Vietnam and would forever ruin the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agent Orange is a herbicide that was used to defoliate the jungles, meaning the United States military
was trying to kill off the trees in Vietnam in order to take away places for North Vietnamese military
men could hide (1). The Viet Cong did not fight conventionally against the American military, they
could not do so and expect to win. This caused them to resort to guerilla warfare in order to strike and
weaken parts of a division or unit. The Americans used Agent Orange as a defense strategy in order to
take away hiding places for the Viet Cong to run to after hitting the American units (2). What is
especially harmful to those who were around Agent Orange and where it was sprayed was the dioxin,
which is a byproduct of one of the chemicals components. People still worked and breathed even with
the residue of the toxin still in the air and in the soil, civilians and military personnel alike. The toxin
carried in it a carcinogen that got its way into the water and in the soil. Slowly as the years have

Explain What The Word Taking Ownership Of Learning Means...
. Explain what the phrase taking ownership of your learning means to you.
My perspective about take ownership of your learning is, I think ownership here is a metaphor refers
to your responsibility towards your learning like if you own it. We all caring about our possessions,
for example; if I rented a car It s not my responsibility to find spare parts or to looking for a reputable
garage for service. But if I own the car, then no doubt, all maintains will be my responsibility. From
that point of view take ownership of your learning means, care about and be responsible for your
learning as one of your possessions. Or stop to be just receiver and start to be a learner that seeking for
knowledge and looking after for what have learned. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

And about monitor my progress, that something I depend on my peers, or my teachers to evaluate it.
Because, usually, we cannot assess/evaluate our self properly.
Are you self motivated to learn and understand; not only driven by grades or external praise?
I think my answer is, yes, I m self motivated to learn and understand. Due to my work, as a driver, in a
research center that gave me the opportunity to visit many fieldworks, in my country, which was
incentive to me.
Do you push yourself to think deeper about issues and draw connections to your personal, academic,
and professional lives?
Sometimes I try to think deeper about issues, particularly, in my personal and professional lives. But
about the academic I m not sure. Because of the lack of my English s vocabularies and phrases.
Which, many times, force me to short cut my thoughts.
How do you view the instructor? Do you view the instructor as a guide, but yourself as the pursuer of

The Role of Istambul on Modern Literature
Istanbul plays an important role in all kinds of art. It is especially important in literature. There are a
lot of books set in Istanbul and we can also talk about famous writers who were inspired by the
Istanbul views and who wrote beautiful stories because of Istanbul. There is also another group of
writers, who were born and who wrote or write their works here, in Istanbul. This, of course, has its
own print and meaning, because living in such a beautiful and great city like Istanbul cannot not to
affect writers works. When we talk about literature and Istanbul, we also have to mention famous
writers and poets that wrote their stories and books in this city. Istanbul has a rich story, there have
lived a lot of writers from the Ottoman Empire till nowadays. There were writers not only from the
common people, but also from the Sultans. For example, Ottoman emperor Suleiman the Magnificent,
who moved to Constantinople after the death of his father, was also an accomplished poet, he wrote
his poems in both Persian and Turkish languages. His most famous verse under the pen name Muhibbi
is this:
The people think of wealth and power as the greatest fate,
But in this world a spell of health is the best state.
Wha men call sovereignty is a worldly strife and constant war;
Worship of God is the highest throne, the happiest of all estates.
Another famous Turkish writer who was both born in Istanbul and wrote about Istanbul is Orhan Veli
Kanık (1914 1950).

Cursive Is A Powerful Brain Tool
There is no standard way of taking notes. Although students have their own methods of studying and
taking notes, it has been proven that cursive writing is more beneficial to students rather than taking
notes. Most educational programs do not require students to learn cursive writing while some do. It
has been proven to be more effective to those who take notes rather than those who type their notes. In
the article Cursive Is a Powerful Brain tool the author gives a variety of examples as to why cursive
writing is a beneficial writing technique to students. Psychologists did a study on students who
handwrote notes and students who typed their notes. In paragraph 2, the author states, In one study,

Has Birth Control Helped Our Women Or Been An Affliction
Has birth control helped our women or been an affliction for them ? In 1950, a lady whose name is

Stages Of Grief By Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Stages of Grief
Elaine Skrdlant
Walden University Stages of Grief
Stages of Grief
Elisabeth Kübler Ross developed methods for counseling after personal traumas and grief related to
the death and dying process. Higher stages of grief implementation, utilization occurs within the grief
and hospice care. Kubler Ross and Kessler (nd) indicates that misunderstanding surrounds her stages
of death as those focused on the typical responses that people experience when they suffer a loss.
Kubler Ross and Kessler acknowledge how everyone is unique, and this includes his or her grieving
process. Within the framework of this model, the first stage of loss is denial. The emphasis on death
and dying are for the person who is dying. Within the grieving process, the family is in denial that the
loved one has died. This process is more figurative rather than factual. Denial is a defense mechanism
implemented as they are not ready to acknowledge the loss of a loved one. When the individual
becomes stronger, the denial diminishes, and the emotions began to surface.
The second step within this model is he emergence of the anger stage. Accordingly, anger comes out
in different ways. Losing loved results in anger towards yourself, God, the doctors and the person who
died. Kubler Ross and Kessler (nd) indicates anger is an important component of the healing process
to continue. Individuals must work through anger at his or her pace. The third component of this
model is the

Telling Lies Chapter Summary
Dr. Paul Ekman is a world renowned psychologist from the United States. His book Telling Lies
explores the topics of lying and human rationality behind lying. In the first two chapters of the novel
Ekman seeks to address why people lie, what makes it so common to human behavior, and why
society should not demonize lying. In the first chapter Ekman lays out the foundation of his argument
by beginning with the basics of lying supported by real world examples. The novel starts with two
examples of lying comparing a lie Hitler told to a lie a suicide patient told. It s clear from the
beginning that the act of lying is widespread and deceptively complicated. The novel often meanders
into one subject to another without clearly defining most topics which can lead to some ... Show more

The novel will often drop an example of lying then later pick it back up again before mentioning at the
end that it will be further explained later. The second chapter however clears up most of the confusion
and has a streamlined narrative that helps the reader understand and break down the material. The
second chapter analyzes the different ways someone can lie and uses the same example to show each
and every way it can be done. The example is a married woman named Ruth is caught by her husband
talking to her other lover on the phone. The author replays the same situation over and over again
using different techniques of lying to play out each way Ruth can avoid making her husband aware of
her affair. The author wisely uses the same example in this chapter to showcase lying and to show how
vast lying is and the magnitude of ways you can lie. Ruth can play off her fear by simply lying that her
fear was about something else, she could choose not to reveal anything, she could falsify the truth, she
could conceal the truth, she could tell the truth in a sarcastic manner that makes it look like she is
lying. The author is trying to point out the many courses of actions she can

Fixed Cost Accounting
2 Why do manager put such a great amount of emphasis on controlling fixed cost in their
organizations?
Fixed costs are constant and have an impact towards profits despite the number of items sold.
Reducing the fixed cost amounts is a sustainable way to make more profits and increase operating
leverage (Edmonds Tsay Olds). Suggested by Reiss, outsourcing is a way of turning fixed costs into
variable costs. Variable costs have a dependence of cost based on production or sale of the product
(Reiss, 2010).
One example of this fixed vs. variable costs transition would be telesales, instead of hiring 45 people
to work inbound and outbound phone calls one could pay a service to answer the phones at a cost per
minute. Using a phone service and experiencing high call volumes, the cost would a variable cost as a
reflection of sales. Having 45 salaried telesales employees and only ... Show more content on

3 What is meant by the statement, my company has good operating leverage? How does good
operating leverage magnify earnings results with modest revenue increase?
With a small change in revenues, one will see a larger change in profits with positive operating
leverage. Operating leverage is often referred to as the ratio of fixed costs compared to revenues
(Edmonds Tsay Olds).
A company with high operating leverage as an example could be a business with expensive machines.
In the medical lab environment, a fixed cost of buying a machine for medical testing one would
presume to be high. For the lab, it would be significant to have the lab testing machines running
twenty four hours a day seven days a week. A percentage change in revenues would negatively impact
a medical testing organization due to the machine cost stay constant (Berman,

The Allegory Of Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler
Sophie Carr Western Civ November 22, 2015 The Allegory of Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler The decline
of the Weimar Republic marked a time of great concern over how post war Germany would shed its
authoritarian past and reinvent itself. Feasibly, no other film from this era could so adeptly capture the
history of immediate postwar Germany than Fritz Lang s Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler. Fritz Lang s
melodramatic tale of an elusive and depraved gambler, or player as it s literally translated, is actually
an allegory for a corrupt and economically unstable Germany that would soon give rise to fascism.
Though Lang, a fervent anti fascist, would find great success in cinematically portraying despotism in
his cult classic Metropolis (1927), Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler was the film that was the more directly
connected to a recovering Germany. Dr. Mabuse is an allegory for the political and economic strife
that took hold Weimar Germany. The film is of a man who plays a slick gambler, an esteemed
physician, and a magician. He s a player in most, if not all, senses of the word. Dr. Mabuse s character
is also described as being literally hypnotic, He [Lang] shows individuals being transformed into a
state of total submission as well as a whole audience succumbing to an exercise in mass suggestion. 1
Only the state prosecutor, Norbert von Wenk, is capable of resisting Mabuse s powers, but Mabuse s
striking supernatural powers and his loyal gang of felons thwart his investigation.

Hypothese of Kaibab Plateau in the Grand Canyon Essay
Many will attest to the grandeur of the natural feature that exists in northern Arizona, but the
formation of the Grand Canyon has befuddled geomorphologists to this day. This confusion can be
attributed to the Kaibab Plateau, an anomaly considering the Colorado River traverses it seamlessly.
Four prevalent hypotheses have been proposed since the 19th century, starting with the lake overflow
proposition first brought up by John Newbury and then reinforced by Eliot Blackwelder. Newbury
argued that a structure must have ponded an ancient lake causing an overspill to cut into the Grand
Canyon. This argument holds that the river must have come after the plateau s existence.
Unbeknownst to Newbury, the structure would be the Kaibab Plateau. ... Show more content on

Antecedent supporters will claim that the river could flow anywhere on the Kaibab Plateau, but
evidence of a river that strayed has not been found. In addition, the canyons of the Mogollon
Highlands show evidence of ancient rivers that once flowed northeast against the southwest direction
of the Colorado River the Antecedent proposition purports (3c). Gravel sediment where the Mogollon
Highland s would have drained onto the Colorado Plateau supports this statement (3b). A true
testament to the power of the Colorado River from the Rocky Mountains is evident in its capabilities
to erode away volcanic bedrock in the past (5c). As many as 13 volcanic dams were formed in the
Grand Canyon s past, but all did not withstand the Colorado River. Basaltic lava flows are relatively
resistance, but the river has successfully eroded about 11,300 feet of volcanic material, equivalent to
twice the depth of the Grand Canton itself (8b). Further proof of major rivers ability to effectively
erode barriers can be found near Cameron, where the Little Colorado River has managed to change its
course north and remove 150 feet of bedrock material (5c). With these factors in hand it is not hard to
imagine that younger Colorado River had the capability to erode significant parts of an older Kaibab
Plateau. Tributaries like the Bright Angel Canyon also present

stuff the article points out are quite obvious, as part of the target audience of the film industry, we (I)
do not usually pay much attention to the smaller subtle things. For example, how the supporting cast is
becoming more and more diverse or how as the storylines of blockbuster films are becoming less
sophisticated, appealing to such a diverse audience as the global audience is actually very challenging.
Aside from grammar, I feel like I need to expand more about how and why I think the article is
relevant to the topic of the week. Because I did not want my post to be too long, I omitted some
interesting points I found in the article. I plan to add them in my revision post because they reinforce
the fact Contemporary Hollywood is transforming into Global Hollywood. 3. Rewritten Best Posting

The first ethnographic method I used was survey questionnaires. Within a total of six questions, the

tend to have the same idea from Deaf culture s side. However, with the fifth question asking about
which method is better for deaf people to get educated, the situation is totally reverse. 40% (8) of
participants said deaf people should be educated in oral way with hearing devices, 60% (12) of

Ponzi Schemes Effects
Although a clear red flag, the alluring promise of high, consistent returns continues to persuade rookie
and seasoned investors to unknowingly invest in Ponzi schemes. Coined in the early twentieth century
after a Boston fraudster named Charles Ponzi, a Ponzi scheme is a form of investment fraud, in which
newly invested money is used to repay existing investors (Ponzi Scheme, n.d.). Since the money is not
actually invested, there is no way for Ponzi organizers to generate money for their clientele, which is
why Ponzi schemes quickly collapse when recruitment stalls or large numbers of investors decide to
cash out (Ponzi Scheme, n.d.). Despite being a white collar crime, Ponzi schemes have incalculable
effects on society. For example, a 1996 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ponzi schemes are non discriminatory crimes; they effect large corporation and blue collar individuals
alike. After the collapse of a Ponzi scheme, large corporations may find themselves out of millions of
dollars and retirees may no longer possess the capital essential for retirement. Other undesirable
effects of a Ponzi include, return of any principal or interest received by investors if the Ponzi
organizer s creditors file for bankruptcy, further financial strain on investors if they must obtain the
counsel of a tax adviser, and public shame if records concerning the Ponzi are publicized revealing the
identity of investors (Benson, 2009). In addition, non profit intuitions may be forced to return any
charitable gifts or donations received from a schemer (Benson, 2009). Such was the case for Middle
Tennessee University, after a bankruptcy trustee demanded the return of a $900,000 donations gifted
to the university by a Ponzi schemer named Robert McLean (Benson, 2009). Therefore, it is important
for future investors to do their due diligence when decided to invest their money. For starters, they can
go through a checklist of red flags to determine if the investment is a Ponzi. According to Investor.gov
Ponzi red flags include, high returns with very little risk, unlicensed sellers, unregistered investments,
secretive complex strategies, and paperwork issues (Ponzi Scheme, n.d.). Furthermore, a potential
investor may want to seek the advisement of a CPA to ensure the sincerity of their

Cause And Effect Of Global Warming
Global warming or climate change is a very serious problem in the world today. Global warming is the
current increase in temperature of the Earth s surface (both land and water) as well as its atmosphere,
says Emily Crouse. Global temperatures have risen about 1.4°F over the last hundred years. As small
and unimportant as this sounds, it is extremely dangerous for this Earth. If the temperature has risen
this much in 100 years what will happen in 1,000? Rising temperatures mean rising sea levels, more
wildfires, bigger and stronger storms, more allergies and disease outbreaks, and so much more. There
are many causes of global warming, whether it be by human or naturally, for instance, deforestation or
the burning of fossil fuels contributes to global warming in a negative way.
Human disturbance plays a huge role in the effect of global warming. 97% percent of scientists say
humans are to blame for global warming. This is because the 40% rise of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution or the 70 million metric tons of carbon dioxide we add to
the atmosphere every single day. Simple everyday activities like driving a car or things businesses do
daily like burn fossil fuels or certain businesses like cutting down trees all add carbon. Cars emit
around 24 pounds of carbon dioxide and other global warming gases for every gallon of gas. Many car
companies are finding ways to solve it by creating cars that run on electricity or energy. A big new
brand, named Tesla, has started coming out with cars like that for expensive prices but significantly
lowered them when they realized how much people loved them. They are soon releasing a moderate
priced car for the same benefits. This is just one example of the ways humans are contributing to the
environment in a negative way by tweaking the global temperature and trying bit by bit to fix it.
As much as humans contribute, natural causes are a big as well. Mostly, the temperature is rising due
to the sun s variation of light. This change in solar radiation is related to the number of sunspots.
Sunspots are darker areas on the sun s surface. When they happen they come closer to earth s
atmosphere and cause the change in solar radiation.

Essay on Hydrophobic property of Carbon Nanotubes
Carbon fiber also has corrosion issues due to its chemical composition There are many different types
of corrosions. According to Boeing Engineer David Banis, Concentration cell corrosion, or crevice
corrosion, is the most common type of corrosion found on airplanes (Banis 2). It occurred whenever
water is trapped between two surfaces, such as under loose paint, within a delaminated bond line, or in
an unsealed joint. The magnitude of the corrosion depends on the alloy that is used. Carbon fiber with
metal mesh is susceptible to severe corrosion if not properly treated with the right sealant. Carbon
fiber is also very hard to recycle. The reason behind this is because it loses most of its strength during
the recycling process, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article A Preliminary Study on the Effect of Macro Cavities Formation on Properties of Carbon
Nanotube Bucky Paper Composites by Ludovic Dumée, a researcher at Dreakin University s institute
for Frontier Materials, over the last decade carbon nanotubes have attracted a lot of interest and efforts
were made to incorporate them efficiently into composite material structures (Dumée 558). Dumée
substantiates this statement by providing a number of data from research that has been conducted in
the last few decades. He provides charts and diagrams from some of his own tests that show that
carbon nanotubes can be easily processed as bucky papers, which are entangled meshes of nanotubes
(Dumée 628). Researchers and engineers are currently studying bucky papers and investigating their
properties. Current research shows that bucky papers exhibit auspicious properties and they are strong
and flexible structures to engineer and examine (Bahr 6537). There are predominantly two types of
carbon nanotube structures that are currently being studied and synthesized, multi walled carbon
nanotubes and single walled carbon nanotubes. The article Functionalization of Carbon Nanotubes by

Urethritis
Urethritis
What is urethritis?
Urethritis is a medical term for inflammation of the urethra, which is located at the end of the urinary
tract. The urethra is longer in males compared to females as it needs to travel down the length of the
penis. When this region of the urinary tract becomes inflamed, patients develop burning on urination,
pain, clear or purulent urethral discharge, and occasionally bleeding. Urethritis is most commonly seen
in sexually active men.
The most common cause of urethritis is infection due to Chlamydia or Gonorrhea. Urethritis is also
commonly caused by Mycoplasma genitalium. These forms of urethritis are sexually transmitted
diseases. Penile trauma is another potential but less frequently encountered cause of urethritis.

The Virgin Suicides and the Writing Self Essay examples
The Virgin Suicides and the Writing Self
Usually our voice for telling a story is our own writing self. A person that understands the situation at
hand and speaks in a manner relevant to the situation. We don t normally create a separate narrator to
make our writing more interesting. We simply write our thoughts and opinions to convey our ideas.
But Jeffery Eugenides writing the Virgin Suicides brought out a separate part of himself to narrate for
him. An entirely fabricated group to speak the story of the girls. This helped both the writer and the
reader in their reality separation. We read it and feel totally immersed in the fiction of the novel.
Throughout it we can relate to this group of narrators in their ... Show more content on

In the process they are unconsciously revealing pieces of themselves throughout the novel. They are
revealing, and forming their writing selves.
The writing self isn t something that can be evoked at will, it must be coerced through a series of
events, to appear. Its components are placed together neatly inside the unconscious, waiting to be
released. However when it is trusted to come forth, it is no longer coherent. A clear picture of what
was inside before its unveiling has to be pieced back together. As we write continually a larger amount
of our writing self comes out. This extension of ourselves being released from our unconscious is the
process of the formation of the writer, to the writing self. The writing self has characteristics that we
are unable to control but it determines our writing style. It grows with every word we write and in this
way it is fed and nourished, becoming stronger. Once it is developed it is its own entity, its own
separate being. It is able to come forth, to be what the writer feels can only be realized through its
thoughts and words.
The writing self is the window through which people can view another person s life. It gives a
perspective that is sometimes revolutionary to the reader. Since people remember and form memories
through the act of association, the relations that are recognized when reading a

Examining the Impact of Roles and Social Pressures on My Life
I spent a recent evening watching a movie with my erstwhile girlfriend Jaimie, along with two of our
mutually close friends, Jason and Michael. In the half hour before starting the video, we rearranged
Jaimie s furniture to make room for the four of us. During the screening, we laughed together at a
child s antics, made jokes about trite and improbable situations, and watched silently as the story drew
to an emotional climax. As the credit scroll began, it was clear that I was both welcome and expected
to stay in the room in a casual social gathering with the other three. However, my response was to

I felt emasculated by the sudden decrease in affection, both physical and emotional, and began to
associate this feeling of inadequacy with my time spent with Jaimie. As Erich Fromm understood,
Both helplessness and doubt paralyze life, and in order to live man tries to escape from freedom,
negative freedom (283). My rational desire to escape conflicted with the love I felt for Jaimie during
our happier moments and the Relationship I had so idealized. After a month of equivocating, I realized
unconsciously, although my ego refused to admit it, that we would not be together much longer.
Indeed, the fated breakup occurred, on a Sunday morning 11 days before what would be our four
month anniversary and 10 days before Valentine s Day. Jaimie made it clear that she needed time to
discover her own role in life, and that being my girlfriend impeded that discovery. Suddenly the
realization that I had been avoiding was thrust upon me. Due to influences beyond my control for it
would be both ridiculous and pretentious for me to attempt to change her mind my role had been
changed from Boyfriend to Miserable Wretch. Identities... must also be socially sustained, and fairly
steadily so.... If this recognition is suddenly withdrawn, it usually does not take very long before the

Essay on The Hijab
How Identity is Represented Through Gender:
Femininity and the Hijab
An individual s identity can differ depending on several different physical and biological factors
including sexuality, gender, age and class. Throughout Ruby Tabassum s article entitled Listening to
the Voices of Hijab, identity is related to gender in a number of ways. I have decided to discuss this
specific article because the idea of how femininity is portrayed is a significant aspect of Canadian
culture nowadays. I am also interested in focusing on how the identities of Muslim women are
recognized in society and how individuals interpret the meaning behind wearing the hijab. Throughout
this article, I have distinguished several different reasons for wearing ... Show more content on

This is a significant aspect of the course because the article examines the strengths and weaknesses of
femininity through a cultural Muslim perspective and the reading is a prime example of how
ideologies regarding race affect those involved. In class we have discussed the significances of social
constructs and how assumptions are made on the basis of physical characteristics. In this situation,
identity is related to gender as Muslim women are categorized as both good/respectful and
rebellious/evil individuals because they are apart of a culture where they are both oppressed and
liberated simultaneously. The hijab used as a symbol of the Muslim culture is just one characteristic of
how it can be perceived; the hijab is also a sign of life, safety and personal identity (Tabassum, 2006,
p. 37). Tabassum (2006) interviews an individual by the name of Raheelah who identifies the hijab as
not just a piece of clothing that covers a Muslim women s face, but also as a portrayal of themselves
as a person (p. 37). I think that this is an important aspect of Canadian culture for feminine identity to
be recognized appropriately and respectively rather than being looked down upon. There are several
stereotypes within society which makes it difficult for any female to portray themselves as decent and
demonstrate morality; thus the hijab is one way for Muslim women to take advantage of its purpose
and be recognized as proper as the hijab somewhat

The Pros And Cons Of The Patriot Act
After the September 11th terrorist attacks, the United States was left in a weakened state of fear.
Government officials quickly scrambled to calm the mass panic which resulted in the speedy passing
of the Patriot Act. The Patriot, or what is more formally known as the Providing Appropriate Tools
Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism act, was established to provide the government with the
implements it needed to stop terrorists operating on American soil. While the Patriot Act does have an
important goal of obstructing terrorism, it achieves this goal at the expense of our individual liberties
given to us by the Constitution. Firstly, the Patriot Act violates the Fourth Amendment to the United
States Constitution by allowing the government to conduct secret searches of citizens property
undermining the amendment s principle of search and seizure only with a warrant. The Fourth
Amendment protects us from searches and seizures without a warrant or probable cause. However,
sections of the Patriot Act can be seen undermining this American prerogative. The American Civil
Liberties Union explains, Section 213 of the Patriot Act justifies the allowance of secret searches.
Secret searches permit the government to search the owner s private property without having to notify
them (ACLU). This section has caused for the mass surveillance of not only possible terrorists but also
innocent American citizens. The government not being required to inform you after your private

The Homeless Of Our Society
At this very moment I m sure that no one in this speech class would imagine being homeless within
the next month or two. However, sometimes life can be unpredictable, and for many people the
unexpected strikes out of nowhere. Contrary to what most people assume, those that are homeless are
usually just ordinary people going through a difficult stage in life. The homeless of our society from
my perspective are overlooked to an extent of rotting the core of our communities. A person is
deserving of shelter, food, water and other commodities as long as they are of value to society. Those
who are less similar to the majority are moderately comprehended while the majority is organized in
resemblance to a chronological list where the amount success determines the amount of burdens one
would carry. Yet to fall out of this majority could be as simple as skin color, age or even height are
factors that seemingly repel you from becoming part of the majority. Taking these things into deep
consideration I decided to do two things for my outside event; I spoke with my uncle who currently
has nowhere to live and I traveled downtown to Sulzbacher Center Homeless for the day. My mother

Landolt Clock Reaction Lab Report
DISCUSSION
By analysing the results of The Landolt clock reaction, and the outcomes that occur due to change in
concentration and the addition of a catalyst, the data did partially support the hypothesis. That by
changing the concentrations of potassium iodate and sodium bisulphite the rate of the reaction will
increase. The rate gradually increased per every 10 seconds on the NaHSO3 graph. Whereas compared
to the KIO3 graph the rate was more efficient, the reaction was achieved within 5 seconds. However,
the second hypothesis regarding the addition of a catalyst, displayed acceptable results. The catalyst
increased the speed of the reaction within 10 seconds, which was slightly faster than the reaction times

The tests that had large amounts of distilled water had a long reaction rate due to the breaking of the
molecular compounds within the reagents.
Secondary data states that the rate law yielded from the iodine clock reaction was rate = k[IO3] 1
(Lyle, Department of Chemistry) which was different to the rate law that this investigation obtained.
0.41 [KLO3]^2 [NaHSO3]^2. This would have happened due to the changing of both KIO3 and
NaHSO3, and also by adding more distilled water to the mixture which slowed down the reaction rate.
Rate law is important, when regarding iodine clock reactions. The rate law helps to determine what
factors impact the rate, and increase the reaction time. Also helps show what factors decrease the
reaction rate.
There were some limitations that were encountered during the experiment, and the planning stages.
Such as, the constant changes made to the method. The method had to be changed three times this was
due to scaling back the measurements of the solutions. The solutions that were part of the original
method would have resulted in 20 ml of the blue solution, which would waste the sodium bisulfite and
potassium, every time a test was conducted.
Another limitation was the trial testing to see whether the experiment worked, which produced
efficient results. Compared to the actual experiment data, many tests had to be repeated. This would
be due to minor

Discussion of Virtue in Meno by Socrates
Plato reveals the views of Socrates on the query of whether virtue is knowledge and whether virtue
may be taught in a number of dialogues, mainly in Meno. In the dialogue, Socrates creates several
differing arguments on virtue, which include the definition of virtue and questions on whether persons
can attain it. In addition, Plato demonstrates the means by which virtue can be obtained, as well as
ponders on whether persons are born virtuous, whether virtue may be taught or it is an added factor for
righteous individuals (Novelguide.com n.pag.). The paper will focus on Socrates query of whether
virtue is knowledge as well as highlight whether virtue may be taught. After Meno asks his initial
question, that is whether a person can be able to be taught virtue, or a person can gain the same
through nature, Socrates assents to continue but argues that a common understanding is required since
neither of them could be capable of comprehensively explaining the meaning of virtue. Then Meno
was made to consent that if virtue is not knowledge then one cannot be taught virtue. However, if it is
knowledge, it can be taught (Holbo and Waring). Socrates asserts that a person can teach something
only if he or she is acquainted with what it is that he/she is teaching. A person who does not know how
to drive a vehicle himself of herself is unlikely to be capable of teaching another person how to do so.
Meno and Socrates fully agree that no one exactly knows what virtue means, and due to

No, David ! By David Shannon
Imagine your child is always testing your limits by performing mischievous actions. The child is
coloring on the walls of their bedroom, playing baseball in the house, climbing on the furniture,
bringing in dirt from outside, etc. How would you react? With this in mind, No, David! by David
Shannon uses the relationship between pictures and words to demonstrate predictable negative
comments in words from an adult figure in association to relatable child like behaviors in pictures.
Initially, the cover and title page of the book both play a key role in the layout of the story. On the
cover, the artistic style of the illustration looks like a cartoon and a painting. This style is very realistic
because of the situation portrayed on the cover; yet playful at the same time because of its comical
vibe. The cover also looks three dimensional and the author seems to be using a straightforward
perspective of art. This idea is led be true because the child, wall, and table with the fishbowl are all
facing towards the reader. The title is also as large in font as the child and fish bowl are. This shows
that the cover is relatively proportional in both text and pictures.
As a result, the child on the cover has sharp teeth and an almost evil grin as he is attempting to pick up
the fish bowl off of a table that is above his head. Secondly, looking at the fish; their facial expressions
show that they are fearful of what is occurring. Both fish have open mouths, as well as eyes and

Internet Service Providers Essay
We think we can do whatever we want to on the Internet, but can we really? In this day and age,

for granted. One of the most valuable things about the Internet is that it s open and equal. Anyone can

freedom is being threatened and the Internet as we know it could change for good.

This new policy would introduce hurt more then it would help. Institutions like public libraries,
schools and other places that offer Wi Fi for use would have to pay tremendous costs. Schools, for
example, are having a hard enough time obtaining the funding for materials like school supplies or for
qualified teachers, and to add the cost of individual websites that students need access to is unfair and
in some schools, impossible.
This proposal would also allow ISP s to block certain websites all together. For example, Verizon
could block Google completely, forcing their customers to pay for the Verizon search engine. Not only
would it add extra costs to your internet bill, but it would also create a tiered internet. This means that
not only would customers have to pay for certain websites, but those same costly sites would have to
pay the ISPs as well. A tiered internet means that a few websites would get high speed priority and be
favored over other sites. To be placed in these high speed tiers, the websites would have to pay huge
amounts of money to the ISPs. Why should the Internet Service Providers have full, unrestricted
access to control everything that goes on online?
A tiered Internet would effect everyone, and not always in a good way. If you are an avid Netflix user,

Review Of Tabula Rasa
Tabula rasa this is how the educationalist John Locke, (1632) believed children were born, with a
blank slate beginning their lives morally neutral. He also wrote that the little and almost insensible
impressions on our tender infancies have very important and lasting consequences. He argued that the
associations of ideas that one makes when young are more important than those made later because
they are the foundation of the self. Locke, (1632) also argued that because a baby s mind was so
malleable a parent could mould them with careful diligence. However Kohlberg (2004) was one of the
first theorists to address gender as a learned, cognitive concept. His thinking was influenced by Piaget,
who portrayed children as active learners who use interactions with their environment to construct an
understanding of the world around them (Piaget, 1961). Kohlberg believed that children s cognitive
understanding of gender influenced their behaviour (Kohlberg, 1981).
Walking into any new born infant s room you could almost certainly guess the gender of the baby just
from the colour of his or her clothes, blankets, and toys. Any infant surrounded by pink items is
virtually certain to be a girl, whereas a child immersed in blue is very likely to be a boy. This colour
differentiation is not limited to newborns. Advertisements in catalogues and newspapers feature little
girls dressed in pink clothes, playing with pink toys, carrying pink lunchboxes, typing on pink
computers, and so

1944 EDUCATION ACT
The 1944 act suggested that the present difference in between elementary and secondary education
should be eliminated and that there should be 3 stages of education: primary, secondary and higher
instead. It was proposed that all school in the secondary stage would have to abide to a single code of
regulations which says that they must provide equality of treatment in such matters as
accommodation, size of lases etc. it also promised secondary education for all. Also all secondary
schools (except of direct grant schools) should be free up to the age of 15. After the 1944 Act, many
things were affected for example even though church schools were not abolished they were named as
voluntary aided , private schools were also not abolished they were only required to be registered and
also parents were given the choice to withdraw their children from religious schools, and although
church schools were not abolished the act improved the control of government over education.
For example, the Local Education Authorities (LEAS) had more responsibilities which proved the rise
in their status. Every county and county borough would be the local education authority (LEA) for its
area (1944 act, section 6, 1). Property and staff previously owned and

The company s brand recognition is visible globally. It also possesses strong capital resources and has
exhibited positive results to its shareholders in the past.
In order to formulate suitable strategies for the company, I have practiced Prescriptive Corporate
Strategy. I also have used the TOWS matrix which helped produce some solid strategies for the
company such as to have eco friendly manufacturing for differentiation or to have expansions
strategies in India and China.
To conclude, I would like to say that CDL has immense opportunities and necessities for global
expansion considering their good financial position and high domestic competition. CDL has been the
market pioneer in number of its businesses in the past and should continue with the trend to stay as a
market leader.

Analysis of External General and Industry Environment
Porter s Five Forces Model Potential Entrants Market share in the real estate business in Singapore is
mainly capitalized by few big players such as City Development Limited, CapitaLand and Keppel
Land. If any multi national real estate company approaches to invest here, they will be restricted to a
marginal shareholding in the new companies. A new entrant will be therefore a private Singaporean
company, and as such the barriers to entry is high in the real estate business.

A Response to Embroidery by Ray Bradbury Essays
A Response to Embroidery by Ray Bradbury
The short story Embroidery , written by Ray Bradbury is one, which could be classed as a science
fiction story with some political aspects to it. Embroidery ends in apocalyptic terms, where an atom
bomb is dropped. Written in the 1960 s meant that the cold war was still going on and being hit by an
atomic bomb was highly possible. I think that because of this a general reader reading this story in the
time it was written would have found this story frightening and at that time the story may haven even
been slightly controversial.
From a feminists point of view this text would be looked upon with quite a lot of interest. Firstly, the
short story was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I ll just have to rip the whole pattern, practically, to fix it right. The man is ripped out entirely from the
scene, rather then just having his face corrected. This could signify women s everlasting struggle with
men, and also on a more gender equality related issue, how these women are in control of the men in
their lives, choosing not to have them at all, implying that men are an almost annoyance to women and
they would much rather have them out of their lives then have them as they are. These women seem to
be living fine as they are however their situation is hardly the scene pictured in the embroidery.
A feminist reader may dislike this story because firstly, the women in the story could be though of as
stereotypical. The embroidery itself serves as an activity commonly associated with women and I
think that a feminist reader would rather dismiss these stereotypes. Also, the story has a political
agenda behind it as well as being fictional. It was written during the arms race of the fifties between
the US and Russia when an atomic bomb hitting either one of these

Cormac Mccarthy The Road Analysis
Home is defined as a dwelling place together with the family; an environment offering security and
happiness. Cormac McCarthy in The Road develops this love and passion using the man and the boy s
relationship. Throughout the novel the boy and the man don t have a real home, moving constantly.
Ultimately their version of home is not just a typical building they merely live in. However, they do
find their home within each other and it takes a toll on who they are and who they become in the end
of the novel. Incidentally, McCarthy uses the man to help the boy feel safe and secure which overall is
what the boy sees as home. The boy never wanted to leave the man s side and was terrified to be alone
without him. In the end of the novel the man dies

Communication Problems In English Communication
How to correct these problems? In order to improve these situations, the teacher needs to take care of
different variables. Learner variables: When working with young adults, it is important to know what
is their aptitude towards learning the language. People at this age tend to be overly conscious of how
they are perceived. Although, it is important for them to improve, it is also challenging getting them to
try. Nobody wants to be labeled as a weak learner. And pronunciation is one of those language skills
that makes evident students English shortcomings. Therefore, when working on this kind of exercises,
make sure they are embedded in the curriculum from the beginning of the course; so that students do
not feel the activity has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Methodological variables: Improving the pronunciation of plosives, and the rhythm of the produced
language , is a process that requires an intentional effort from the learner. Pronunciation practice
involves some drilling because certain challenges are overcome through mastering the mechanics. Just
as dancers rehearse moves to the point that they become automatic, speakers need to practice using
their articulators in specific ways so that the mechanics become secondary and the attention can shift
back where it needs to go to the meaning. (Recio, 2011) Therefore exercises that involve repetition
will be necessary. However, it is not about repeating for the sake of it. There should be a process that
makes the student aware of what it expected from his pronunciation. The activities proposed should
have exposure procedure. In this stage not explicit attention is paid to specific features of
pronunciation (Ball, n.d.) Then activities where the learner listens to speech containing the target
feature used correctly should be part of this stage. (e.g. songs, fragments of movies, speeches, etc)
Exercise: As Ball said, in this stage there must be the identification of specific sound features and the
appropriate practice for their perception and production. In this stage, drills and repetition exercises
can take place. For instance for working with plosives, the following exercise

Almost thirty years after the last troops were pulled out of what was then South Vietnam, its effects are still felt in today s society. The most boradly used chemiucal was called Agent Orange. Some people agreed with the use of Agent Orange. Stages Of Grief By Elisabeth Kubler Ross Stages of Grief Elaine Skrdlant Walden University Stages of Grief Stages of Grief Elisabeth Kübler Ross developed methods for counseling after personal traumas and grief related to the death and dying process. Higher stages of grief implementation, utilization occurs within the grief and hospice care. Kubler Ross and Kessler (nd) indicates that misunderstanding surrounds her stages of death as those focused on the typical responses that people experience when they suffer a loss. Kubler Ross and Kessler acknowledge how everyone is unique, and this includes his or her grieving process. Within the framework of this model, the first stage of loss is denial. The emphasis on death and dying are for the person who is dying. Within the grieving process, the family is in denial that the loved one has died. This process is more figurative rather than factual. Denial is a defense mechanism implemented as they are not ready to acknowledge the loss of a loved one. When the individual becomes stronger, the denial diminishes, and the emotions began to surface. The second step within this model is he emergence of the anger stage. Accordingly, anger comes out in different ways. Losing loved results in anger towards yourself, God, the doctors and the person who died. Kubler Ross and Kessler (nd) indicates anger is an important component of the healing process to continue. Individuals must work through anger at his or her pace. The third component of this model is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the first two chapters of the novel Ekman seeks to address why people lie, what makes it so common to human behavior, and why society should not demonize lying. In the first chapter Ekman lays out the foundation of his argument by beginning with the basics of lying supported by real world examples. The novel starts with two examples of lying comparing a lie Hitler told to a lie a suicide patient told. It s clear from the beginning that the act of lying is widespread and deceptively complicated. The example is a married woman named Ruth is caught by her husband talking to her other lover on the phone. The author replays the same situation over and over again using different techniques of lying to play out each way Ruth can avoid making her husband aware of her affair. The author wisely uses the same example in this chapter to showcase lying and to show how vast lying is and the magnitude of ways you can lie. Ruth can play off her fear by simply lying that her fear was about something else, she could choose not to reveal anything, she could falsify the truth, she could conceal the truth, she could tell the truth in a sarcastic manner that makes it look like she is lying. • 10. Fixed Cost Accounting 2 Why do manager put such a great amount of emphasis on controlling fixed cost in their organizations? Fixed costs are constant and have an impact towards profits despite the number of items sold. Reducing the fixed cost amounts is a sustainable way to make more profits and increase operating leverage (Edmonds Tsay Olds). Suggested by Reiss, outsourcing is a way of turning fixed costs into variable costs. Variable costs have a dependence of cost based on production or sale of the product (Reiss, 2010). One example of this fixed vs. variable costs transition would be telesales, instead of hiring 45 people to work inbound and outbound phone calls one could pay a service to answer the phones at a cost per minute. Using a phone service and experiencing high call volumes, the cost would a variable cost as a reflection of sales. Having 45 salaried telesales employees and only ... • 12. The Allegory Of Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler Sophie Carr Western Civ November 22, 2015 The Allegory of Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler The decline of the Weimar Republic marked a time of great concern over how post war Germany would shed its authoritarian past and reinvent itself. Feasibly, no other film from this era could so adeptly capture the history of immediate postwar Germany than Fritz Lang s Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler. Fritz Lang s melodramatic tale of an elusive and depraved gambler, or player as it s literally translated, is actually an allegory for a corrupt and economically unstable Germany that would soon give rise to fascism. Though Lang, a fervent anti fascist, would find great success in cinematically portraying despotism in his cult classic Metropolis (1927), Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler was the film that was the more directly connected to a recovering Germany. Dr. Mabuse is an allegory for the political and economic strife that took hold Weimar Germany. The film is of a man who plays a slick gambler, an esteemed physician, and a magician. He s a player in most, if not all, senses of the word. Dr. Mabuse s character is also described as being literally hypnotic, He [Lang] shows individuals being transformed into a state of total submission as well as a whole audience succumbing to an exercise in mass suggestion. 1 Only the state prosecutor, Norbert von Wenk, is capable of resisting Mabuse s powers, but Mabuse s striking supernatural powers and his loyal gang of felons thwart his investigation. ... • 14. Hypothese of Kaibab Plateau in the Grand Canyon Essay Many will attest to the grandeur of the natural feature that exists in northern Arizona, but the formation of the Grand Canyon has befuddled geomorphologists to this day. This confusion can be attributed to the Kaibab Plateau, an anomaly considering the Colorado River traverses it seamlessly. Four prevalent hypotheses have been proposed since the 19th century, starting with the lake overflow proposition first brought up by John Newbury and then reinforced by Eliot Blackwelder. Newbury argued that a structure must have ponded an ancient lake causing an overspill to cut into the Grand Canyon. This argument holds that the river must have come after the plateau s existence. Unbeknownst to Newbury, the structure would be the Kaibab Plateau. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Antecedent supporters will claim that the river could flow anywhere on the Kaibab Plateau, but evidence of a river that strayed has not been found. In addition, the canyons of the Mogollon Highlands show evidence of ancient rivers that once flowed northeast against the southwest direction of the Colorado River the Antecedent proposition purports (3c). Gravel sediment where the Mogollon Highland s would have drained onto the Colorado Plateau supports this statement (3b). A true testament to the power of the Colorado River from the Rocky Mountains is evident in its capabilities to erode away volcanic bedrock in the past (5c). As many as 13 volcanic dams were formed in the Grand Canyon s past, but all did not withstand the Colorado River. Basaltic lava flows are relatively resistance, but the river has successfully eroded about 11,300 feet of volcanic material, equivalent to twice the depth of the Grand Canton itself (8b). Further proof of major rivers ability to effectively erode barriers can be found near Cameron, where the Little Colorado River has managed to change its course north and remove 150 feet of bedrock material (5c). With these factors in hand it is not hard to imagine that younger Colorado River had the capability to erode significant parts of an older Kaibab Plateau. • 18. Cause And Effect Of Global Warming Global warming or climate change is a very serious problem in the world today. Global warming is the current increase in temperature of the Earth s surface (both land and water) as well as its atmosphere, says Emily Crouse. Global temperatures have risen about 1.4°F over the last hundred years. As small and unimportant as this sounds, it is extremely dangerous for this Earth. If the temperature has risen this much in 100 years what will happen in 1,000? Rising temperatures mean rising sea levels, more wildfires, bigger and stronger storms, more allergies and disease outbreaks, and so much more. There are many causes of global warming, whether it be by human or naturally, for instance, deforestation or the burning of fossil fuels contributes to global warming in a negative way. Human disturbance plays a huge role in the effect of global warming. 97% percent of scientists say humans are to blame for global warming. This is because the 40% rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution or the 70 million metric tons of carbon dioxide we add to the atmosphere every single day. Simple everyday activities like driving a car or things businesses do daily like burn fossil fuels or certain businesses like cutting down trees all add carbon. Cars emit around 24 pounds of carbon dioxide and other global warming gases for every gallon of gas. Many car companies are finding ways to solve it by creating cars that run on electricity or energy. A big new brand, named Tesla, has started coming out with cars like that for expensive prices but significantly lowered them when they realized how much people loved them. They are soon releasing a moderate priced car for the same benefits. This is just one example of the ways humans are contributing to the environment in a negative way by tweaking the global temperature and trying bit by bit to fix it. As much as humans contribute, natural causes are a big as well. Mostly, the temperature is rising due to the sun s variation of light. This change in solar radiation is related to the number of sunspots. Sunspots are darker areas on the sun s surface. When they happen they come closer to earth s atmosphere and cause the change in solar radiation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The magnitude of the corrosion depends on the alloy that is used. Carbon fiber with metal mesh is susceptible to severe corrosion if not properly treated with the right sealant. Carbon fiber is also very hard to recycle. The reason behind this is because it loses most of its strength during the recycling process, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the article A Preliminary Study on the Effect of Macro Cavities Formation on Properties of Carbon Nanotube Bucky Paper Composites by Ludovic Dumée, a researcher at Dreakin University s institute for Frontier Materials, over the last decade carbon nanotubes have attracted a lot of interest and efforts were made to incorporate them efficiently into composite material structures (Dumée 558). Dumée substantiates this statement by providing a number of data from research that has been conducted in the last few decades. He provides charts and diagrams from some of his own tests that show that carbon nanotubes can be easily processed as bucky papers, which are entangled meshes of nanotubes (Dumée 628). Researchers and engineers are currently studying bucky papers and investigating their properties. Current research shows that bucky papers exhibit auspicious properties and they are strong and flexible structures to engineer and examine (Bahr 6537). A person that understands the situation at hand and speaks in a manner relevant to the situation. We don t normally create a separate narrator to make our writing more interesting. We simply write our thoughts and opinions to convey our ideas. But Jeffery Eugenides writing the Virgin Suicides brought out a separate part of himself to narrate for him. Examining the Impact of Roles and Social Pressures on My Life I spent a recent evening watching a movie with my erstwhile girlfriend Jaimie, along with two of our mutually close friends, Jason and Michael. During the screening, we laughed together at a child s antics, made jokes about trite and improbable situations, and watched silently as the story drew to an emotional climax. In this situation, identity is related to gender as Muslim women are categorized as both good/respectful and rebellious/evil individuals because they are apart of a culture where they are both oppressed and liberated simultaneously. The hijab used as a symbol of the Muslim culture is just one characteristic of how it can be perceived; the hijab is also a sign of life, safety and personal identity (Tabassum, 2006, p. 37). Tabassum (2006) interviews an individual by the name of Raheelah who identifies the hijab as not just a piece of clothing that covers a Muslim women s face, but also as a portrayal of themselves as a person (p. 37). I think that this is an important aspect of Canadian culture for feminine identity to be recognized appropriately and respectively rather than being looked down upon. There are several stereotypes within society which makes it difficult for any female to portray themselves as decent and demonstrate morality; thus the hijab is one way for Muslim women to take advantage of its purpose and be recognized as proper as the hijab somewhat ... Government officials quickly scrambled to calm the mass panic which resulted in the speedy passing of the Patriot Act. The Patriot, or what is more formally known as the Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism act, was established to provide the government with the implements it needed to stop terrorists operating on American soil. While the Patriot Act does have an important goal of obstructing terrorism, it achieves this goal at the expense of our individual liberties given to us by the Constitution. Firstly, the Patriot Act violates the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution by allowing the government to conduct secret searches of citizens property undermining the amendment s principle of search and seizure only with a warrant. The Fourth Amendment protects us from searches and seizures without a warrant or probable cause. However, sections of the Patriot Act can be seen undermining this American prerogative. The American Civil Liberties Union explains, Section 213 of the Patriot Act justifies the allowance of secret searches. Discussion of Virtue in Meno by Socrates Plato reveals the views of Socrates on the query of whether virtue is knowledge and whether virtue may be taught in a number of dialogues, mainly in Meno. In the dialogue, Socrates creates several differing arguments on virtue, which include the definition of virtue and questions on whether persons can attain it. In addition, Plato demonstrates the means by which virtue can be obtained, as well as ponders on whether persons are born virtuous, whether virtue may be taught or it is an added factor for righteous individuals (Novelguide.com n.pag.). The paper will focus on Socrates query of whether virtue is knowledge as well as highlight whether virtue may be taught. After Meno asks his initial question, that is whether a person can be able to be taught virtue, or a person can gain the same through nature, Socrates assents to continue but argues that a common understanding is required since neither of them could be capable of comprehensively explaining the meaning of virtue. Then Meno was made to consent that if virtue is not knowledge then one cannot be taught virtue. However, if it is knowledge, it can be taught (Holbo and Waring). Socrates asserts that a person can teach something only if he or she is acquainted with what it is that he/she is teaching. A person who does not know how to drive a vehicle himself of herself is unlikely to be capable of teaching another person how to do so. The child is coloring on the walls of their bedroom, playing baseball in the house, climbing on the furniture, bringing in dirt from outside, etc. How would you react? With this in mind, No, David! by David Shannon uses the relationship between pictures and words to demonstrate predictable negative comments in words from an adult figure in association to relatable child like behaviors in pictures. Initially, the cover and title page of the book both play a key role in the layout of the story. On the cover, the artistic style of the illustration looks like a cartoon and a painting. This style is very realistic because of the situation portrayed on the cover; yet playful at the same time because of its comical vibe. The cover also looks three dimensional and the author seems to be using a straightforward perspective of art. This idea is led be true because the child, wall, and table with the fishbowl are all facing towards the reader. The title is also as large in font as the child and fish bowl are. This shows that the cover is relatively proportional in both text and pictures. This proposal would also allow ISP s to block certain websites all together. For example, Verizon could block Google completely, forcing their customers to pay for the Verizon search engine. He also wrote that the little and almost insensible impressions on our tender infancies have very important and lasting consequences. He argued that the associations of ideas that one makes when young are more important than those made later because they are the foundation of the self. Locke, (1632) also argued that because a baby s mind was so malleable a parent could mould them with careful diligence. However Kohlberg (2004) was one of the first theorists to address gender as a learned, cognitive concept. His thinking was influenced by Piaget, who portrayed children as active learners who use interactions with their environment to construct an understanding of the world around them (Piaget, 1961). Kohlberg believed that children s cognitive understanding of gender influenced their behaviour (Kohlberg, 1981). Walking into any new born infant s room you could almost certainly guess the gender of the baby just from the colour of his or her clothes, blankets, and toys. Any infant surrounded by pink items is virtually certain to be a girl, whereas a child immersed in blue is very likely to be a boy. This colour differentiation is not limited to newborns. This could signify women s everlasting struggle with men, and also on a more gender equality related issue, how these women are in control of the men in their lives, choosing not to have them at all, implying that men are an almost annoyance to women and they would much rather have them out of their lives then have them as they are. These women seem to be living fine as they are however their situation is hardly the scene pictured in the embroidery. A feminist reader may dislike this story because firstly, the women in the story could be though of as stereotypical. The embroidery itself serves as an activity commonly associated with women and I think that a feminist reader would rather dismiss these stereotypes. Pronunciation practice involves some drilling because certain challenges are overcome through mastering the mechanics. Just as dancers rehearse moves to the point that they become automatic, speakers need to practice using their articulators in specific ways so that the mechanics become secondary and the attention can shift back where it needs to go to the meaning. (Recio, 2011) Therefore exercises that involve repetition will be necessary. However, it is not about repeating for the sake of it. There should be a process that makes the student aware of what it expected from his pronunciation. The activities proposed should have exposure procedure. In this stage not explicit attention is paid to specific features of pronunciation (Ball, n.d.) In this stage, drills and repetition exercises can take place. For instance for working with plosives, the following exercise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
