Abercrombie and Fitch
Abercromie amp; Fitch
Abercrombie and Fitch Co. (« A amp;F ») is an international fashion retailer selling apparel, fragance
and luxury products to young customers. The brand describes itself as « casual luxury ».
They developed a strong brand image based on provocative communication and specific in store
experience that fits with the cool lifestyle it promotes. However, sales have been dropping for years
and do not seem to be going in the future. In 2013, the firm closed about 220 mall stores and entering
December 2014, profits were expected about $106 milions, less than half of what they had been in
2012.
Fitch s performance is declining fastly, and it can be explained through internal and external factors.
Some of these factors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today A amp;F still do not have a permanent CEO.
While the lack of competitive advantage and some public relations blunders serve as internal reasons
for poor performance, A amp;F s competitors, economic context and consumer s changing behavior
constitue external elements that can also explained the firm s decline. Eco context :The economic
condition can also affect the firm s performance. The apparel industry is a very cyclical industry that is
highly correlated to the economic context. Indeed, consumers are more likely to refrain from
purchasing non necessary goods in a period of recession. Moreover, with the ongoing economic
situation, existing international stores are touched and this can affect productivity and future opening
projects. Furthemore, this openess is limited to some factors such as exchange rate or local
government policies. A amp;F s international subsidaries often operate with currencies other than US
dollar. Thus, the risk of currency variation is higher when international expansion rises.
Competition :During slow economic time, competitors have been quick to lower their prices, however
A amp;F has continually refused, thinking that it would have tanish their brand. In the retail industry,
how a brand is perceived by its potential consumers is a crucial part to the success or failure of that
company because there is not a lot of difference in product features or quality.

Codification Of Parliamentary Privileges- Why It Is...
CODIFICATION OF PARLIAMENTARY PRIVILEGES WHY IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY?
No law per to the provisions contained under Article 105(3)and 194(3) of the Constitution of India has
been made so far with regard to the codification of the other privileges, which is contrary to very
intent and desire of the founding fathers. Even in the United Kingdom, the law with regard to the
Parliamentary Privileges has undergone tremendous change since 1950, however, the Indian
Legislatures have still not realized the need for a step to be taken towards the improvisation and
evolution of the law which earlier prevailed in the House of Commons at the time of the
commencement of the Constitution of India. The apprehension resisting this kind of an evolution ...

There is no doubt that there is an absolute requirement to confer upon the Parliament certain powers,
immunities and privileges to ensure its independent functioning and also for the preservation of its
prestige and dignity. However, it is also absolutely necessary that such powers and privileges are made
use of in a responsible and diligent manner and in accordance with the principles of natural justice and
the other provisions enshrined under Part III of the Constitution of India. For the purpose of securing
greater clarity and certainty with respect to the provisions contained under Article 105(3) (and also
Article 194(3)), it is necessary that constitutional mandate contained in the first part of the above
provisions be implemented and thereby, the privileges also be codified. Moreover, it is completely
baseless to consider that the codification of the Parliamentary Privileges would result in the detraction
from the prestige and sovereignty of the Parliament. In fact, if

Alexander The Great Antigonid
Alexander the Great s career as a ruler ended soon after it began, leaving behind a great empire that
quickly broke apart after his death. The lands were divided by each of his generals, general Ptolemy
acquired Egypt, which became known as Ptolemaic, general Seleucus acquired from the coast of Asia
Minor to India, forming Seleucid, and general Antigonus became king of Macedonia, establishing the
Antigonid. Governing of these lands did not differ much, citizens grew their own crops and raised
animals for food, while paying rent and taxes to their kings. Folks that resided in the cities ate fancier
foods, drank fancier wine, and did business with others who were quite different from them. Greek
customs and manners were maintained, the Greek

Enzymes Essays
Enzymes Enzymes are complex proteins that carry out essentially every chemical reaction in the
human body. Enzymes function as biological catalyst, regulating the rate at which chemical reactions
proceed without themselves being altered in the process.
In this particular experiment we recognized benzoquinone and examined two numbers of factors to
determine their effects on enzyme action. The factors were temperature and specificity (how
discriminating the enzyme is in catalyzing different potential substrates). The enzyme that we
examined was catechol oxidase also known as tyrosinase.
II. RESULTS
Table 1 Formation and Detection of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DISCUSSION
1. We know that the substrates of catechol oxidase are catechol and oxygen. The substrates react with
one another within the active site of the enzyme. The products formed by this reaction are
benzoquinone and water. In this exercise we mixed the ingredients, stirred them, and incubate them at
40°C. We formed in tube 2a the product benzoquinone, observed its color change, and established a
color intensity scale.
2. In our second exercise we determined the ability of the enzyme cathecol oxidase to catalyze the
oxidation of two different but structurally similar substrates: cathecol and hydroquinone. Examining
their chemical structure we noticed that both are ring structures with two hydroxyl groups attached.
The question was if the enzyme could also convert it to benzoquinone. We observed how
discriminating cathecol oxidise is for particular substrates by comparing the color intensity of the
solutions in each test tubes with the standards produced in the first section (Table 1). We recorded
them in Table 2.
After 10 min we recorded the color intensity in Table 3. Our conclusion was that cathecol is stronger
enzyme than hydroquinone and that the enzyme is simply too specific to interact with the similar but
not identical molecule.

Why People Use Anabolic Steroids
From some research I have seen, people have used steroids to help them keep energetic to exercise and
do varies sports. The use of steroids by people has become so usual to improve performance in their
sport or day to day exercises. Also the use of anabolic steroids by athletes has become common in
order to improve their performance in the sports they play. But, little did you know that there are three
main reasons as to why not to use them. First off, it is a fraud to use any method that makes people
become better in sports, because that will also let fraud in any other aspect of our lives. Second, while
trying to achieve a higher benefit using these chemicals, it is cheating people who rely on our ability

Scammers often pretend to be someone you trust, like a government official, a family member, a

The Hidden History Of The Jfk Assassination
The Hidden History of the JFK Assassination For nearly five decades, historians have debated over
whether or not the John F. Kennedy assassination was from a lone gunman or as part of a bigger
conspiracy cover up. On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot as he paraded
through Dallas, Texas. That same afternoon, Dallas police had arrested their suspect, Lee Harvey
Oswald. Oswald, an itinerant ex U.S. marine and self described Marxist Leninist, previously lived in
the Soviet Union prior to his move back to the United States. However, within days of his arrest,
Oswald was dead. Oswald was murdered by Jack Ruby on national television in the basement of a
Dallas police station. Historians, through the years, have stated that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone
and for himself, while others have maintained that Kennedy was killed as part of a wider cover up.
The Warren Commission Report was established by Lyndon Johnson, Kennedy s successor, to further
investigate Kennedy s assassination. After nearly a yearlong investigation, the commission, led by
Chief Justice Earl Warren concluded that alleged gunman Lee Harvey Oswald had acted alone in
assassinating America s 35th President, and that there was no conspiracy, either domestic or
international, involved. Despite its seemingly firm conclusions, the report proved controversial and
failed to silence conspiracy theories surrounding the event. Historians have held dramatically different
views about the

Why Is Bilingualism Important In Canada
Canada has a very unique cultural aspect that not many countries share. It is one of just eleven
countries that has official policies of bilingualism(1). This mix of languages is a result of two different
Colonial empires trying to claim the same land. At first, these two cultures often clashed and did not
fraternize at all. As the years went on however, the two tongues learned to accept one another. After
accepting one another they morphed into one bilingual culture that Canadian s from the Atlantic to the
Pacific came to love and express. Nowadays politics in Canada is constantly revolving around
bilingualism and how it can be preserved. To give a some context through history it would be

What Is The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Flood stories are a part of most ancient civilizations throughout the whole world. Yet arguably the
most well known is the story of Noah and the Ark. Today I am going to go over the other main flood
stories most closely related with the former, and show proof that out of the numerous flood narratives,
this is the most factual and realistic of all of them. First off we have the ancient Mesopotamian
narrative Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is told a story by, an immortal man, that long ago the gods
had decided to destroy the whole world by sending a flood. Upon hearing this information the man
Utanapishtim was able to build a giant ship that he stored all different species of creatures on, and
even some craftsmen for after the flood. Historians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet if it were a copy of such a story, why would all of the dimensions for the ship be factually checked
out as stable and realistic, the ability for caring and keeping alive all of the animals mentioned in both
stories, and that neither the Sumerians or the Israelites were known for their nautical skills. Sumerians
were the first to write the flood account in cuneiform then the Akkadian s carried it on, there were two
types of dialects Babylonian and Assyrian and they each had their own version of the flood story. This
shows that they were recounting the stories that they have been told, writing it in their own style.
Scholars of the Christian faith believe that the recounting of the Noah s flood was told orally and
passed down until Moses eventually wrote it to be apart of the bible. So this makes the origins of the
bible older then all of the other flood

The And The Garden Party Essay
A social totality is not a concept born of mere delicate measure but of a grand scheme of aspects of
mixed languages and customs in a society or the social and economic class and the way those two
intertwine. One of the best ways of defining a concept is to understand what it is not, or in a story, the
characters that do not define it. Stories such as Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and The Garden
Party by Katherine Mansfield both define the borders of the social totalities of their worlds by writing
clear characters Emma Bovary and Laura that do not belong within that social realm. When stuck in
their respective worlds that they grow up in, Emma and Laura believe they understand life because
they know their places in the familiarity of what they have always known, but when they become
exposed to that breach of their individual worlds, their knowledge is expanded to that of a social
totality beyond what they knew. They no longer understand how to fit into their worlds because they
do not relate to any of it, leaving them with a sense of discomfort and loneliness, longing for
something more. The idea of writing a social totality comes from a process of building a society
believable enough that the reader can immerse themselves into the story without strain, all the while
incorporating solid facts of that society to make it seem realistic. As described by Georg Lukacs , The
goal for all great art is to provide a picture of reality in which the contradiction

Joseph Priestley Research Paper
Joseph Priestley was born and raised in England before immigrating to Pennsylvania in his later life.
Priestley lived in the 18th century and contributed much to the fields of chemistry and biology.
Priestley is considered important for many reasons, one of the main reasons being because of his
discovery of oxygen. Priestley also discovered Nitrous oxide in 1772. An important discovery in the
field of biology, was Priestleys documentation of photosynthesis.
Joseph Priestly was born on March 24th, 1733 in Birstall, England. Priestley was born to Mary and
Jonas Priestley and was the oldest of six children. At the age of five, Priestleys parents sent him to live
with his grandfather. After the passing of his mother he returned home, until his father remarried when
he went to live with his wealthy aunt and uncle, Sarah and John Keighley. Priestley s aunt treated him
to the best education at Daventry and Warrington Academy, where he learned Greek, Latin and
Hebrew. On June 23rd, 1762, he married Mary Wilkinson and on April 17th, 1763, their daughter
Sarah was born. On July 24th, 1768, the couples second child, Joseph Junior, was born and three years

Priestley held a strong belief that people should be able to speak and exchange ideas freely. Priestley
was also a strong believer in equal rights for people who did not agree with the teachings of the
Cathlic church. Unfortunately, his ideas made him an outcast among most and even forced him to flee
England for the United States after his home and church were burned down. I think that Priestley was
brave to so openly dissent from what everyone else believed, even if it led to him being

Contract Formation
Part A Contracts are an integral part of business and everyday life, and are fundamental to construction
as the industry relies on the formation of contracts for business agreements. Contracts are based on the
idea of a bargain, where each side must put something into the bargain. A contract may be defined as
an agreement which is binding on the parties (Galbraith, 1998, pg78). There are a number of key
components which must be present in the formation of such contracts. Firstly, there needs to be an
initial offer made by one party for the formation to begin. An offer exists when one party effectively
declares his readiness to be bound by a set of terms without any further negotiation (Galbraith, 1998,
pg79). It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
the amount of pay which could be the same as that paid on a prior occasion . One particular problem
in construction is the letter of intent , widely used between employers and contractors as a form of pre
contract agreement. Following on from the tendering negotiations, Adriaanse (2010, pg55) writes the
purpose of a letter of intent is to express an intention to enter into a contract at a future date . These are
the result of failing to negotiate on certain terms in time for the project start date, and are introduced to
allow the commencement of work, keeping within the projects completion target. As these are often
not legally binding contracts they cause disputes in the future if one of the parties does not carry out
their duties, as in British Steel Corporation v. Cleveland Bridge Engineering Co. Ltd (1981). Owen (
1998, pg50) writes that all simple contracts must have consideration given by each party to the other
as the price of each other s promises. It may take the form of money, goods, services, promises not to
sue etc. For example party A must receive something from party B, in return for party A providing
something to party B. However McKendrick (2007, pg88) states that consideration must be sufficient
but does not need to be adequate , meaning for example something must be offered to the other party
in return to satisfy the rules of consideration, but does not need to be of an equal value as

A Necessary Condition For The Storage Of Information
A necessary condition for the storage of information in the computer s memory is the ability to
transform this very information in the appropriate form for your computer. In the event that this
condition is satisfied, it is necessary to determine the structure, it is suitable for information is present,
one that will provide a set of capabilities required to work with it. Here, the structure refers to the way
the information by which the aggregate of individual elements form a unity, due to their relationship
with each other. Assembled for any rules and logically related between the data can be processed very
efficiently, since for them the overall structure provides a set of management capabilities one of the
things by which achieved good results in solving various problems. But not every object is present in

between the different methods of data storage, and this choice depends on the performance of the
product. Speaking of not computing can show a single case where the information is visible to a clear
structure. A good example is the book of different content. They are divided into pages, paragraphs
and chapters are, as a rule, table of contents, i.e. the interface to use them. In broad terms, the structure

Mr. Harris In Barn Burning
In William Faulkner s Barn Burning , there is no evidence for Abner Snopes burning Mr. Harris barn,
but the court still gives a ruling. Abner does not have to pay Mr. Harris for reparations, but is still
exiled. With Abner s reactions before and after burning Mr. Harris barn and his family s current
situation, the Justice of Peace made a fair ruling of exiling Abner. Because the amount of damages
caused by Abner, the family can not afford to pay Mr. Harris back with their limited funds. Abner has
a wiry figure, so he is not very well fed (Faulkner 182). In the family s wagon, there are broken beds
and chairs with a non working clock, which shows Abner can not afford to buy replacements for these
and other items as a farmer (183). Abner debts keep increasing, even his new landlord, Major de

Abner s job before being exile only allowed him to owe more than he had, so when de Spain says
Abner never will have the money, it shows that Abner s financial problems are still the same and will

voracious prodigality with material not his own (184). Prodigality means wastefully extravagant, so
Abner tends to lust after lavish items or an lavish lifestyle that he can not obtain. If anything, some of
the better items he have are stolen (184). He can not afford his own horses; most of them are what he
calls, captured horses which are actually stolen from both Confederate and Union armies during the
Civil War (184). Abner also makes shrewd fires instead of making bigger ones as he does with the
barn. The small fires represents his low status during the war as a thief and during the present as a

application of PNJ would vitiate the entire proceedings would depend upon the nature and facts of
every case in the light of the Act or Rules and Regulation applicable to the case. The Court, then, read
into various provisions of the Act and the Competition Commission of India (General) Regulations,
2009 in order to determine the nature of functions of the Commission under various provisions. The
Court found that at the face of it, the exercise of power u/s. 26(1) of the Act while forming prima facie
opinion is inquisitorial and regulatory. It held that while forming prima facie opinion, the Commission
does not condemn anyone. This function is not adjudicatory in nature but merely administrative. This

The United States Of World War II
The United States of America entered into World War II, because of the Japanese attack on Pearl
Harbor (World War II). On December 7, 1941, Japan bombed the American fleet in Pearl Harbor,
Hawaii (World War II). By the end of the attack, there were 2,403 dead, 188 destroyed planes, and 8
damaged or destroyed battleships (Attack at Pearl Harbor). Franklin Roosevelt said that American
must become the great arsenal of democracy (World War II). America then entered into the war at the
Battle of Midway in April 1942 (Battle of Midway). World War II was in every part of the world
except Antarctica. The war was fought in three different ways. First, it was fought in the air. Strategic
air warfare used bombers to destroy industry, cities, and morale (Historical Introduction). Tactical air
warfare attacked enemy troops on the battlefield (Historical Introduction). Second, it was fought in the
water. Submarines were used to take out supply convoys by way of torpedo (Historical Introduction).
Amphibious tactics were also used so that it was possible to land troops and equipment on heavy
defended shores (Historical Introduction). Third, it was fought on land. Tanks became independent
and worked offensively instead of following with troops (Historical Introduction). Artillery became
lighter and easier to handle (Historical Introduction). The war also involved trench warfare. The
Marshall Plan is also known as The European Recovery Program (Marshall Plan). The plan involved

Myth of Courage Exposed in The Things They Carried Essay
Ah for a young man all looks fine and noble if he goes down in war, hacked to pieces under a slashing
bronze blade he lies there dead. . .but whatever death lays bare all wounds are marks of glory. (Homer
22.83 87)
As students we are brainwashed by ancient myths such as The Iliad, where war is extolled and the
valorous warrior praised. Yet, modern novels such as Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried
(THINGS) challenge those very notions. Like The Iliad, THINGS is about war. It is about battles and
soldiers, victory and survival, yet the message O Brien gives us in THINGS runs almost contradictory
to the traditional war story. Whereas traditional stories of war take place on battlefields where soldier
battles soldier and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What the reader experiences while reading the novel, is entirely different from what he expects from a
typical war story. Absolutes must be absent from the text, if O Brien is to illustrate how any of our
mythologies, including courage, frequently fail to meet up to actual experience.
As many have noted, O Brien ingeniously facilitates a mood of incongruity, or disconnection, between
fiction and fact in The Things They Carried through sheer structure. By blurring lines between fantasy
and reality, THINGS truly becomes a contradiction of itself. As Catherine Calloway notes, one of the
ways in which O Brien achieves this blurring of lines, is to model the narrator of THINGS after
himself, a drafted Vietnam war veteran, a Harvard graduate, and a writer with the same name of Tim
O Brien (para. 3). O Brien is aware that the practiced reader knows not to confuse the narrator with the
author, and yet the reader is encouraged to do just that. The purpose, of course, is to keep the reader as
unbalanced, as unsure, of what we are told to be truths, as is the Vietnam soldier.
Another way in which O Brien blurs fiction and fact is through his narrator s (heretofore referred to as
Tim), constant and contradictory claims as to the veracity of his stories. One moment Tim swears that
a story is true, such as in the chapter The Man I Killed, when he speaks so realistically and in such
detail, about killing an enemy soldier (THINGS 141), but

Income Gap in Canada
Question One:
It is often said that in Canada, The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Respond. Be
certain to differentiate between income and wealth. How has the occupy movement contributed to this
debate?
Inequality in Canada is a growing problem. As income rises for the rich and remains the same for the
poor, a gap is forming between Canada s highest and lowest earners. This gap has sparked outrage by
some, resulting in the Occupy Movement, and apathy in others. However, it can indeed be said that in
Canada the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.
The reason for Canada s large gap in wealth is best explained by changes in labour markets, changes
in families and changes in public policies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, median net worth fell by $7,500 in 2005 in the lowest 10%, while increasing by between
$237,000 and $659,000 in the top 10%. Therefore, wealth inequality rose as the highest earners were
subject to wealth increases. When considering this, it is wholly possible to understand the saying that
the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer , as it is true. This was brought into the
spotlight by the Occupy Movement, and the slogan of We are the 99% . This, in turn, begs the
question; who are the one percent? The Canadian one percent are compose of 246,000 people, whose
income is $405,000 (Yalnizyan, 2010). This one percent holds 13.8% of all incomes in Canada, and
has seen its total income double (Yalnizyan, 2010). In fact, this one percent of the population
accumulated 32% of all growth in incomes from 1997 to 2007 (Yalnizyan, 2010). In comparison, that
same one percent only took 8% of all income growth in the 1950 s and 60 s (Yalnizyan, 2010). So, as
the one percent accumulates more wealth and more of the growth in incomes, the gap grows. In
response to the growing inequality between rich and poor Canadians, and the growing wealth of the
top 1%, the Occupy Movement took to the streets in order to protest against the accumulation of the
majority of wealth by the minority of people. On October 15th, 2011, in 900 cities across the world,
thousands of average citizens protested for their rights to wealth equality

Drug Abuse In America Essay
Drug Abuse in America
Every citizen of the United States has been affected by drug abuse. Be it directly or indirectly we have
all felt the negative effects on our society, our economy, and our safety. Why do Americans abuse
drugs? There seems little progress toward an answer considering illicit drug use has gone from 8.3%
to 9.4% since 2002. Clearly, we are no closer to a solution than we were fourteen years ago. One
reason so many Americans use illicit drugs is the ease of availability. There is a near unlimited supply
of drugs and people willing to sell them, especially in low income areas. Additionally, it is easy to
purchase narcotics anonymously on the deep web. Another cause of drug abuse is self medication.
People with depression or who are in pain often medicate their symptoms with illicit drugs. It is
estimated that over 52% of drug related deaths in the U.S. are due to prescription drugs. While some
deaths can be attributed to suicide, many result from incorrect dosage. People often take drugs with
the intention of having a good time or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

from cocaine and methadone abuse, and include driving under the influence, homicides, and other

deaths from opioid overdose is alarming, said CDC Director Tom Frieden. The opioid epidemic is
devastating American families and communities. To curb these trends and save lives, we must help
prevent addiction and provide support and treatment to those who suffer from opioid use disorders.
This report also shows how important it is that law enforcement intensifies efforts to reduce the

an area in New York City upon which seemed as a place with no law during the mid 19th century. The
drama film directed by Martin Scorsese, Gangs of New York, provides us an account of the anarchy
that occurred; following the life of a man named Amsterdam, the son of a popular Irish American
leader, Priest Valon. Supported by the extraordinary acting performances by Daniel Day Lewis (aka
Bill the Butcher) and Leonardo DiCaprio (as Amsterdam) the film is a massive achievement. Scorsese
creates a visualization of American s primitive past, where violence and unrest was frequent in New
York at the beginning of the Civil War. This is due to the editing and packaging of the story is filled
with the same no nonsense attitude that is shared with the characters themselves. Fueled by the
hostility between the different social groups who inhabit the Five Points. Every character lives on
knives edge the whole film, as the groups live amongst each other in the crowded burrows. Scorsese
uses this attitude to elegantly transition between the multiple plot lines within the film. In addition, the
attitude gives context to the film, helping the plot lines build on top of each other slowly increasing
the tension, adding value to the viewing experience. Unlike most films today, Gangs of New York,

America for immigrants is a land where everybody can become somebody. In Two Kinds, from an
excerpt the novel, The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan, Jing mei s mother believed that her daughter
could become anyone that she wanted. Jing mei only wanted to become herself. Jing mei s mother
forced Jing mei to become a prodigy. At first Jing mei was excited to become a prodigy, however, as
time went on Jing mei started to hate trying to become a prodigy. It never stopped her mother from
trying to make Jing mei into a prodigy.Jing mei s perspective of her own cultural identity, her role as
daughter, and how she sees American life was different from her mother because they were born into
two different cultures.
Jing mei, American born, and her mother, Chinese born, came from two different cultural perspective
which causes them to have different views on cultural identity. Sujuan came to America hoping her
child will become a prodigy. When Jing mei and Sujuan were watching TV Sujuan saw Shirley
Temple, and at first mother thought I could be a Chinese Shirley Temple (Tan 22). Shirley Temple was
an American child prodigy. This indicates that Sujuan saw her daughter as a Chinese girl even though
Jing mei was born in America. This is significant because this was how her mother viewed Jing mei s
cultural identity. Sujuan s vision of her daughter being a Chinese Shirley Temple never happened
because Jing mei did not want to be anybody expect herself. As time continued Sujuan kept on trying

The Art Of Madame De Pompadour
Madame de Pompadour, mistress, confidante and advisor to King Louis XV of France, and later, Lady
in Waiting to his Queen, rose from the middle classes to become a woman of influence in the French
court of 1746 1764. Pompadour embraced the grand lifestyle of the aristocracy including having her
portrait painted numerous times by many artists, utilizing her influence in how she was painted and
the messages those paintings portrayed (Jones). Her court painter, Francois Boucher represented her as
an idealized beauty (Jones) especially in his masterful oil painting of 1756, Portrait of Madame de
Pompadour, which showcased her opulent lifestyle, beauty, and intelligence (Davies 766) and status in
the French court. In this portrait, Boucher sets Pompadour in an intimate scene, typical of Rococo
style art, dressed in sumptuous silks, surrounded by books, flowers and elaborate draperies, at her
ease, gazing into the distance, caught in a moment of thought. Painted shortly after her appointment as
Lady in Waiting to the Queen, the painting is a celebration of Pompadour s status in the French Court
of King Louis XV.
The main subject of the painting is Madame de Pompadour, who sits half reclining, engulfed by yards
and yards of colorful fabrics, with gilded furnishings and flowers galore, a celebratory painting of a
femme savant (Goodman 1), at ease in her surroundings. Books and papers fill the scene, proclaiming
her intellectual prowess. An educated woman, Pompadour is

The Religion of Islam Essay
Islam is derived from the Arabic root salaama meaning peace, purity, submission and obedience. Islam
stands for making peace by submitting to the will of God and obeying His law. Jews and Christians
view Islam as the latest of the world s great religions. However, worldwide Muslims (sometimes
written Moslems ) understand their universal religion as the final religion and the primal religion.
As final, Islam is God s final revelation of prophetic religion, in fulfillment of all that had preceded.
Moses was given the Law; David was given the Psalms; Jesus was given the Gospel. Judaism offers
God s message of justice, and Christianity proclaims the love of God. To Mohammed (570 632 A.D.;

For the one billion or more Muslims (about six million in the United States), who are of many racial
and ethnic backgrounds Arabs being a minority Islam is the middle way between Judaism and
Christianity; it restores the unity of the children of Abraham and overcomes the limitations of Judaism
and Christianity. Jesus, the prophet to the lost sheep of Israel, limits Christianity; Judaism is similarly
limited. Islam proclaims a practical synthesis of Judaism and Christianity for all humanity.
Overcoming the incompleteness of the justice of Judaism and the idealistic love of Christianity, Islam
brings to fulfillment all that Judaism and Christianity anticipated. For the Muslim believer, Islam is
perfected Judaism and perfected Christianity.
As primal, Islam is the authentic religion of Adam, of Abraham, and of human nature. Islam is not
younger than Judaism and Christianity; it preceded both. Not only is it the religion of the Spoken
Book (the Qur an), it is as well the religion of the Created Book (the fabric of the universe itself).
According to the Muslim faith, every person is born a Muslim, and distortions of one s environment
lead a person astray to become a Christian, a Jew, or an unbeliever. To be human means to be Muslim.

Sympathy in The Reprimand Sympathy is an extension of empathic concern, or the perception,
understanding, and reaction to the distress or need of another human being. Sympathy must be given

characters, Rhona and Mim, have a confrontation about what Rhona believes to be an inappropriate

did not handle the situation in a professional manner. She is too forceful and degrading to Mim when
she confronts her about Mim s comment. Rhona says, but you didn t say better, you said bigger
(Anderson 1783). She corrects what Mim meant by her comment to make her sound like she was
trying to be mean, when she actually was trying to do something nice for her because it was Rhona s

most likely be leading the meeting with the other employees. This act of kindness and respect is
turned around to be mean and disrespectful by Rhona. Rhona says, Honey, there was a reason why
Dick and Danny asked you all the follow up questions (Anderson 1784). Rhona is implying to Mim
that she took the attention away from her even though she is the one who is in charge of the project.

to be the center of attention. Most people do not appreciate this type of personality. One last

The Genius of M.C. Escher Essays
The Genius of M.C. Escher
Mathematics is the central ingredient in many artworks. While notions of infinity and parallel lines
brought perspective to the artistic realm in creating realistic representations of depth and dimension,
mathematics has influenced art in a more definite way by actually becoming art. The introduction of
fractal geometry and tessellations as creative works spawned the creation of new and innovative
genres of art, which can be exemplified through the works of M.C Escher. Escher s pieces are among
the most recognized works of art today. While visually stimulating and deeply meaningful, his art
reflects many ideas of mathematics through geometry, symmetry, and patterns.

He once said, Although I am absolute innocent of training or knowledge in the exact sciences, I often

Finally, in 1930, Escher received widespread acclaim for his lithograph entitled Castrovolva. He
continued to incorporate geometry and patterns in his pieces, and found that his work began to be
displayed in science museums rather than art galleries. From 1951 1954 Escher completed some 400
works, by this time a prominent figure in the world of art, the majority of which included such
mathematical principles as polyhedra, infinity, knots, and tessellations.
A polygon is a closed figure bounded by three or more straight line segments. A polyhedron is a
geometric entity composed of polygons connected at their edges to enclose space. Among the most
popular piece that exemplifies the use of polyhedra is entitled Gravity (Figure 1:

emerge from a series of pyramids fit together like a star.
Along with polyhedrons, Escher also incorporated the idea of infinity into numerous pieces.
Fascinated by the concept of bounding infinity, that is representing infinity in an enclosed plane,
Escher attempted to demonstrate this in his work. He once

Theme Of Betrayal In Jane Eyre
In the novel, Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë there were many incidents that had affected the overall
plot of the book. Sometimes an author adds certain events or ideas to help accentuate the plot. In this
novel there is a recurring theme of betrayal. The one that seems to be affected by the curse of betrayal
the most is the main character, Jane Eyre, herself. Her first encounter with betrayal came about when
she was still just a child. And as she grew older and experienced the world new ways unlike before,
she could never escape the curse of betrayal. Jane s first encounter with betrayal was when she was
still a child and her Uncle Reed brought her along to live with him and his family in Gateshead, after
Jane s parents had passed away. Jane s Uncle Reed had promised to raise her as if she were one of his
own children. However, this only lasted until Uncle Reed passed away. After Jane s uncle had passed,
Jane s aunt and her three children had mistreated her and in some cases physically abused. On one
particular day she was minding her own business whilst reading Bewick s History of British Birds, her
obnoxious cousin John Reed was looking for Jane. Once he finds her, he treats her as if she was
inferior to him, he wants his cousin to refer to him as Master Reed. This already not being indicative

frustrating. When I say frustration, the point I m trying to emphasize on is that there are several to
choose from, which makes it difficult and annoying finding the right one. The finality of the
experience will literally create insanity or drinking excessively.
I was in the market for a professional video production company to help with some infomercial
companies. Literally, there are hundreds of companies to select from on the internet. Every single one
of those so called companies promised to do exactly what I wanted. Of course, they ll say anything to
get your business. When in actuality, these companies hire immature employees with no experience,
or knowledge of the task at hand. Yeah, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though I was only concerned with production videos for my infomercial companies, I found
myself intrigued at what other services they were offering. If I ever have the need for another venture I
will be calling them first. By bypassing the headaches in the first place, my life will be so much easier
and give me time to concentrate on what I do excel in.
I almost forgot to include my end results. When I received the finished videos I couldn t contain
myself and my enthusiasm. My videos exceeded far beyond my expectations. I was so excited to get
them up and running. I just knew from the quality and sincere dedication that they were going to be
well received by the public. My infomercial companies are thriving and I am beginning to receive a
lot of positive feedback. Success is just within my grasp; it s hard not to boast about a company who
has created excellence.
Please take my advice, before you go on a mad hunt to find a production company that is not all
cracked up to be what they say they are, first call Vertex Media. I ve provided the companies contact
information to make the process

Abstract:
The enthalpy of combustion of naphthalene was experimentally determined to be 5030.44 ± 78.98
kJ/mol which was a 2.5% error from the literature value of 5160 ± 20 kJ/mol.2 The theoretical
enthalpy of combustion of solid naphthalene was calculated to be 6862.68 kJ/mol using bond energies
for the gaseous molecules, the heat of vaporization of liquid water and the literature value of the heat
of sublimation of naphthalene, which was 72 ± 4 kJ/mol.2 The absolute value of the difference

...
It was desired to compare a theoretical value of enthalpy of combustion to a literature value. To do
this, the theoretical value was calculated using a literature value for the heat of sublimation of
naphthalene, the heat of vaporization of water and average bond energies, given in Table 1 of the lab
packet.1 Equations (1) and (5) were used to calculate the theoretical enthalpy of combustion of
gaseous naphthalene, where n was the number of moles, m was the number of bonds, and ΔH was the
average bond energy:
∆Hcombustion,naphs=ni+mi*∆Hireactants ni+mi*∆Hiproducts (5)
The theoretical value of the combustion of solid naphthalene was calculated by substituting their given
values in the literature into equation (5) in place of their corresponding terms.
Experimental: A more detailed explanation of procedures can be found in the lab packet.1 To
summarize, samples of benzoic acid and naphthalene were combusted using the Parr 1341 Calorimeter
with a Parr oxygen bomb. A massed benzoic acid pellet was placed onto the center of the combustion
pan and 10 cm of nickel alloy fuse wire was massed and then threaded through both electrodes on the
head of the bomb so that it lay firmly against the acid pellet. 1mL of distilled water was then placed in
the bottom of the bomb in order to ensure that all the water produced by the

The Value Of The Jaguar Essay
The jaguar is a highly known animal with notable affiliation in the Pre Columbian Mesoamerican
societies and belief systems. All major Mesoamerican cultures proudly presented a jaguar god. Jaguars
are known for their power and aggressive strength. They are great hunters and one of the big cats that
can tolerate water. Most information that is known about Mayan culture and Mesoamerican societies
comes from the countless and scrupulous findings on stone monuments, murals, documents, adorned
vases, and conventional sources, where we can survey that the Maya carried out religious exercises
with most of these objects. This is evident of the Mayan jaguar lidded vessel from the Fresno Art
Museum. Vessels are vases that were used not for just funerary purposes, but also for rituals, offerings,
and a plethora of other daily activities. Other important details about jaguar symbolism in
Mesoamerican cultures include the fact that the word for jaguar, bahlam, appears in many of the
names of Mayan kings than any other animals. This is not surprising since the jaguar is the mighty
emperor of crafty force. Andrea Stone and Marc Zender state in their book, Reading Maya Art: A
Hieroglyphic Guide to Ancient Maya Paintings and Sculptures, that, The jaguars ferocity made it an
ideal insignia of warriors who wore jaguar parts to wear it like a badge of honor, whether it was the
head, skin, tail, or paws. To spread out jaguar skin was an expression for war, and

Black Holes And Its Effects On Society
Supermassive black holes are so mysterious when it comes to the knowledge we know about them.
We still don t know much about them and there will always be conspiracies about them, but we still
need to find more information about them to understand more. Black holes are developed when a star
s core collapses and then mass is getting eaten by the core which leads to the star to die in a supernova
explosion. This can go two ways, one is that the star turns into a neutron star, and the second is it turns
into a black hole but only if the star is massive enough. There are known to be three kinds of black
holes. Intermediate, stellar, and supermassive black holes. We still don t know how supermassive
black holes are formed, but most scientists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is called Cygnus X 1. Rockets that were carrying a device called Geiger counter that measure
radioactivity by counting ionizing particles. Eight X ray sources were found and scientist detected
radio emissions from Cygnus X 1. A massive hidden companion was found and that was considered
the first black hole to be discovered. (6) We have a lot of evidence to prove that supermassive black
holes exist in galaxies. Scientist found evidence of a supermassive black hole in the center of the
Milky Way, the galaxy NGC 4258, galaxy M87, and several more. Scientist verified the existence of
black holes by studying the speed of the clouds of gas orbiting the galaxy regions. In 1994, the Hubble
space telescope measured an unseen object that had an estimated mass of about 3 billion times the
mass of the sun in our solar system. The unseen object was located in the center of the galaxy M87.
Scientist measured the mass of the object through the motion of the object whirling around the center.
(2) More evidence for the existence of supermassive black holes is the existence of quasars. Quasars
are a massive and extremely remote celestial object that emits large amounts of energy. They are also
one of the brightest objects in the universe. They are typically more than 100 times brighter than the
galaxies they re in. Quasars emit light through disks of gas and stars that are known as an accretion
disk. The accretion disk surrounds black holes. The closest quasars are

Many of the world large indusial companies in foreign countries do not follow regulations for
pollution and carbon dioxide (Co2). The toxic waste is causing major health issues for not only the
people that live in these countries but the world. These gasses have been found in our water and food

These changes are expected to have considerable impacts on human health. Mounting evidence
suggests current and future effects on human health, including injuries and illnesses from severe
weather events, like floods, and heat exposure. Increases in allergic, respiratory, vector borne, and
waterborne diseases; and threats to food and water supplies. Indirect effects may include anxiety and
depression and the consequences of mass migration and regional conflicts. Addressing these
occurrences is a pressing challenge for public health. Although the scope and complexity of the
problem are unprecedented, the theoretical framework for responding draws on long standing public
health thinking per the article published by Frumkin, Hess, Luber, Malilay, McGeehin, (2008).
Identified in the article by Satterthwaite, Huq, Pelling, Rerd, Lankao, (2007). The differentials in
greenhouse gas emissions per person between rich and poor groups can be much larger than the gaps
between rich and poor nations. For example, the greenhouse gas emissions generated as a result of the
high consumption lifestyle of a very wealthy person or household is likely to be hundreds of
thousands or even millions of times more than that generated by many low income families in low
income nations. The very existence of some small island and some low income countries is that much
of their land area is at high risk from sea level rise, yet their contributions to

Perception And Perception Of Perception Essay
Perception serves more than one purpose to the human experience. Wikipedia defines Perception as
the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and
understand the environment. This definition unfortunately describes only one of the services
perception provides. I would like to offer instead the definition Perception is a collection of data
filters, some natural but most created by education and experience, which serve to shape and enforce
limits on sensory and intellectual data that is considered to provide the individual a world view in
which to operate within. Similar definitions yes, but the differences are critical.
In the Wikipedia definition, perception is nothing more than an interpreter of sensory information. It
implies that all sensory information is considered, and considered equally. Additionally it implies that
intellectual data such as words, symbols, and events are not subject to perceptional filters. These
critical omissions remove from view that perception is subjective and subordinate to the human
intellect, a key concept in the road to higher enlightenment which I will discuss in future posts.
Perception provides to the human experience with:
A world view to determine what sensory and intellectual data to consider and what to discard based
upon (representative, not all inclusive):
Personal Impact
Personal Accountability
Personal Interest
Personal Relevance
Ability to effect
Sources

The Social Impacts Of The Gilded Age
The rapid growth of the economy in the United States the Gilded Age generated a lot of wealth. The
growth of the railroads, telegraph and later telephone lines stretching across the country created new
opportunities for entrepreneurs and the people looking for work; and gave cheaper goods to
consumers.
The Gilded Age was a term used in the 1920s and 1930s derived from Mark Twain s novel of the same
name, which mocked an era of serious social problems. Mark Twain and Charles Darwin saw the
corruption in the politics, the ineffectiveness of the politicians, the frenzy in the marketplace and the
widespread greed among the people. The society showed a huge difference in regard to who had
something and who didn t. Most of the poor and lower middle class ... Show more content on

Because with growth in the economy comes the growth in income inequality. But this doesn t
necessarily mean that there is a huge inequality in the concept of consumption in our society. Over
time, the consumption among the less fortunate has become similar to that of the wealthier in some
ways. There are now new technologies and knock off fashions that spread down the price scale too
fast to distinguish the rich from the aspiring for long. There are also more available in regard to leisure
activities for both the poor and the wealthy that are quite similar that makes the inequality a lot
narrower. For example, if you would like to watch a movie, the wealthy can go to an expensive movie
theater and spend lots of money on it but the poor can also catch the same movie in a different theater
for literally nothing in comparison and get the same outcome. So the biggest difference in this
situation is the experience of enjoying this movie, but they both accomplish what they intend to do.
Also, there are now companies that turn out higher quality goods at low prices which helps close the
gap between the rich and the poor. But for example, access to a good education is a way that the
increasing income inequality affects people

Urban Residential And Manufacturing Versus Agricultural Water
Urban residential and Manufacturing versus Agricultural Water Use Restrictions in California On
April 1st, 2015 California Governor Jerry Brown passed an executive order calling for the reduction
of water use in urban areas by 25 percent (average across all counties) relative to 2013 data (Bechtel).
These restrictions did not include agricultural water uses despite Agriculture accounting for
approximately 80 percent of water use within the state (Bechtel). On June 12, 2015 restrictions were
placed on agricultural use that affected up to 114 senior water right holders (Sanders). These
restrictions forbid farmers from using rivers that have been severely diminished by the drought as a
source of water. However, they can still legally pump groundwater on their property and purchase
water in the open market (Sanders). This means they don t necessarily have to reduce the amount of
water they use, it only strips them of one (for some farmers very important) water resource.
Supporters of this order include State Water officials, State Senators Jim Nielson and Fran Pavley
among other representatives, California farmers, Senior water rights holders, and of course Governor
Jerry Brown (Stevens). Felicia Marcus of the State water Resources Control Board states, Asking
people to cut back, take shorter showers and put their lawn on a water diet is very different than fields
that are fallow and thousands of people out of work (Stevens).
There has been a public outcry against these

The brand describes itself as « casual luxury ». They developed a strong brand image based on provocative communication and specific in store experience that fits with the cool lifestyle it promotes. However, sales have been dropping for years and do not seem to be going in the future. In 2013, the firm closed about 220 mall stores and entering December 2014, profits were expected about $106 milions, less than half of what they had been in 2012. Today A amp;F still do not have a permanent CEO. While the lack of competitive advantage and some public relations blunders serve as internal reasons for poor performance, A amp;F s competitors, economic context and consumer s changing behavior constitue external elements that can also explained the firm s decline. Eco context :The economic condition can also affect the firm s performance. The apparel industry is a very cyclical industry that is highly correlated to the economic context. Indeed, consumers are more likely to refrain from purchasing non necessary goods in a period of recession. Moreover, with the ongoing economic situation, existing international stores are touched and this can affect productivity and future opening projects. Furthemore, this openess is limited to some factors such as exchange rate or local government policies. A amp;F s international subsidaries often operate with currencies other than US dollar. Thus, the risk of currency variation is higher when international expansion rises. Competition :During slow economic time, competitors have been quick to lower their prices, however A amp;F has continually refused, thinking that it would have tanish their brand. In the retail industry, how a brand is perceived by its potential consumers is a crucial part to the success or failure of that company because there is not a lot of difference in product features or quality. ... No law per to the provisions contained under Article 105(3)and 194(3) of the Constitution of India has been made so far with regard to the codification of the other privileges, which is contrary to very intent and desire of the founding fathers. Even in the United Kingdom, the law with regard to the Parliamentary Privileges has undergone tremendous change since 1950, however, the Indian Legislatures have still not realized the need for a step to be taken towards the improvisation and evolution of the law which earlier prevailed in the House of Commons at the time of the commencement of the Constitution of India. The apprehension resisting this kind of an evolution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no doubt that there is an absolute requirement to confer upon the Parliament certain powers, immunities and privileges to ensure its independent functioning and also for the preservation of its prestige and dignity. However, it is also absolutely necessary that such powers and privileges are made use of in a responsible and diligent manner and in accordance with the principles of natural justice and the other provisions enshrined under Part III of the Constitution of India. For the purpose of securing greater clarity and certainty with respect to the provisions contained under Article 105(3) (and also Article 194(3)), it is necessary that constitutional mandate contained in the first part of the above provisions be implemented and thereby, the privileges also be codified. Moreover, it is completely baseless to consider that the codification of the Parliamentary Privileges would result in the detraction from the prestige and sovereignty of the Parliament. Enzymes function as biological catalyst, regulating the rate at which chemical reactions proceed without themselves being altered in the process. In this particular experiment we recognized benzoquinone and examined two numbers of factors to determine their effects on enzyme action. The factors were temperature and specificity (how discriminating the enzyme is in catalyzing different potential substrates). The enzyme that we examined was catechol oxidase also known as tyrosinase. II. RESULTS Table 1 Formation and Detection of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DISCUSSION 1. We know that the substrates of catechol oxidase are catechol and oxygen. The substrates react with one another within the active site of the enzyme. The products formed by this reaction are benzoquinone and water. In this exercise we mixed the ingredients, stirred them, and incubate them at 40°C. We formed in tube 2a the product benzoquinone, observed its color change, and established a color intensity scale. 2. In our second exercise we determined the ability of the enzyme cathecol oxidase to catalyze the oxidation of two different but structurally similar substrates: cathecol and hydroquinone. Examining their chemical structure we noticed that both are ring structures with two hydroxyl groups attached. The question was if the enzyme could also convert it to benzoquinone. We observed how discriminating cathecol oxidise is for particular substrates by comparing the color intensity of the solutions in each test tubes with the standards produced in the first section (Table 1). We recorded them in Table 2. After 10 min we recorded the color intensity in Table 3. Our conclusion was that cathecol is stronger enzyme than hydroquinone and that the enzyme is simply too specific to interact with the similar but not identical molecule. 3. ... • 10. The Hidden History Of The Jfk Assassination The Hidden History of the JFK Assassination For nearly five decades, historians have debated over whether or not the John F. Kennedy assassination was from a lone gunman or as part of a bigger conspiracy cover up. On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot as he paraded through Dallas, Texas. That same afternoon, Dallas police had arrested their suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald, an itinerant ex U.S. marine and self described Marxist Leninist, previously lived in the Soviet Union prior to his move back to the United States. However, within days of his arrest, Oswald was dead. Oswald was murdered by Jack Ruby on national television in the basement of a Dallas police station. Historians, through the years, have stated that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone and for himself, while others have maintained that Kennedy was killed as part of a wider cover up. The Warren Commission Report was established by Lyndon Johnson, Kennedy s successor, to further investigate Kennedy s assassination. After nearly a yearlong investigation, the commission, led by Chief Justice Earl Warren concluded that alleged gunman Lee Harvey Oswald had acted alone in assassinating America s 35th President, and that there was no conspiracy, either domestic or international, involved. Despite its seemingly firm conclusions, the report proved controversial and failed to silence conspiracy theories surrounding the event. It is one of just eleven countries that has official policies of bilingualism(1). This mix of languages is a result of two different Colonial empires trying to claim the same land. Today I am going to go over the other main flood stories most closely related with the former, and show proof that out of the numerous flood narratives, this is the most factual and realistic of all of them. First off we have the ancient Mesopotamian narrative Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is told a story by, an immortal man, that long ago the gods had decided to destroy the whole world by sending a flood. Upon hearing this information the man Utanapishtim was able to build a giant ship that he stored all different species of creatures on, and even some craftsmen for after the flood. Historians ... Sumerians were the first to write the flood account in cuneiform then the Akkadian s carried it on, there were two types of dialects Babylonian and Assyrian and they each had their own version of the flood story. This shows that they were recounting the stories that they have been told, writing it in their own style. • 15. The And The Garden Party Essay A social totality is not a concept born of mere delicate measure but of a grand scheme of aspects of mixed languages and customs in a society or the social and economic class and the way those two intertwine. One of the best ways of defining a concept is to understand what it is not, or in a story, the characters that do not define it. Stories such as Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and The Garden Party by Katherine Mansfield both define the borders of the social totalities of their worlds by writing clear characters Emma Bovary and Laura that do not belong within that social realm. When stuck in their respective worlds that they grow up in, Emma and Laura believe they understand life because they know their places in the familiarity of what they have always known, but when they become exposed to that breach of their individual worlds, their knowledge is expanded to that of a social totality beyond what they knew. They no longer understand how to fit into their worlds because they do not relate to any of it, leaving them with a sense of discomfort and loneliness, longing for something more. The idea of writing a social totality comes from a process of building a society believable enough that the reader can immerse themselves into the story without strain, all the while incorporating solid facts of that society to make it seem realistic. As described by Georg Lukacs , The goal for all great art is to provide a picture of reality in which the contradiction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Priestley lived in the 18th century and contributed much to the fields of chemistry and biology. Priestley is considered important for many reasons, one of the main reasons being because of his discovery of oxygen. Priestley also discovered Nitrous oxide in 1772. An important discovery in the field of biology, was Priestleys documentation of photosynthesis. Joseph Priestly was born on March 24th, 1733 in Birstall, England. Priestley was born to Mary and Jonas Priestley and was the oldest of six children. At the age of five, Priestleys parents sent him to live with his grandfather. After the passing of his mother he returned home, until his father remarried when he went to live with his wealthy aunt and uncle, Sarah and John Keighley. Priestley s aunt treated him to the best education at Daventry and Warrington Academy, where he learned Greek, Latin and Hebrew. On June 23rd, 1762, he married Mary Wilkinson and on April 17th, 1763, their daughter Sarah was born. • 17. Contract Formation Part A Contracts are an integral part of business and everyday life, and are fundamental to construction as the industry relies on the formation of contracts for business agreements. Contracts are based on the idea of a bargain, where each side must put something into the bargain. A contract may be defined as an agreement which is binding on the parties (Galbraith, 1998, pg78). There are a number of key components which must be present in the formation of such contracts. Firstly, there needs to be an initial offer made by one party for the formation to begin. An offer exists when one party effectively declares his readiness to be bound by a set of terms without any further negotiation (Galbraith, 1998, pg79). It is ... One particular problem in construction is the letter of intent , widely used between employers and contractors as a form of pre contract agreement. Following on from the tendering negotiations, Adriaanse (2010, pg55) writes the purpose of a letter of intent is to express an intention to enter into a contract at a future date . These are the result of failing to negotiate on certain terms in time for the project start date, and are introduced to allow the commencement of work, keeping within the projects completion target. As these are often not legally binding contracts they cause disputes in the future if one of the parties does not carry out their duties, as in British Steel Corporation v. Cleveland Bridge Engineering Co. Ltd (1981). Owen ( 1998, pg50) writes that all simple contracts must have consideration given by each party to the other as the price of each other s promises. It may take the form of money, goods, services, promises not to sue etc. For example party A must receive something from party B, in return for party A providing something to party B. However McKendrick (2007, pg88) states that consideration must be sufficient but does not need to be adequate , meaning for example something must be offered to the other party in return to satisfy the rules of consideration, but does not need to be of an equal value as ... A Necessary Condition For The Storage Of Information A necessary condition for the storage of information in the computer s memory is the ability to transform this very information in the appropriate form for your computer. In the event that this condition is satisfied, it is necessary to determine the structure, it is suitable for information is present, one that will provide a set of capabilities required to work with it. Here, the structure refers to the way the information by which the aggregate of individual elements form a unity, due to their relationship with each other. Assembled for any rules and logically related between the data can be processed very efficiently, since for them the overall structure provides a set of management capabilities one of the things by which achieved good results in solving various problems. Abner s job before being exile only allowed him to owe more than he had, so when de Spain says Abner never will have the money, it shows that Abner s financial problems are still the same and will not change (185, 189). Faulkner also describes Abner as one who had in his blood and inherent voracious prodigality with material not his own (184). Prodigality means wastefully extravagant, so Abner tends to lust after lavish items or an lavish lifestyle that he can not obtain. If anything, some of the better items he have are stolen (184). He can not afford his own horses; most of them are what he calls, captured horses which are actually stolen from both Confederate and Union armies during the Civil War (184). The direction to cause an investigation into a matter is passed under Section 26(1) of the Act does not determine any right or obligation of the parties to the lis. It does not find mention in Section 53A(1) of the Act and hence, the Court found that such orders would not be appealable under the Act. Issue 2 and 5: The Court noted that the exclusion of principles of natural justice (PNJ) is a well known concept and the legislature has the competence to enact such laws. Whether the exclusion of application of PNJ would vitiate the entire proceedings would depend upon the nature and facts of every case in the light of the Act or Rules and Regulation applicable to the case. • 24. Myth of Courage Exposed in The Things They Carried Essay Ah for a young man all looks fine and noble if he goes down in war, hacked to pieces under a slashing bronze blade he lies there dead. . .but whatever death lays bare all wounds are marks of glory. (Homer 22.83 87) As students we are brainwashed by ancient myths such as The Iliad, where war is extolled and the valorous warrior praised. Yet, modern novels such as Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried (THINGS) challenge those very notions. Like The Iliad, THINGS is about war. It is about battles and soldiers, victory and survival, yet the message O Brien gives us in THINGS runs almost contradictory to the traditional war story. Whereas traditional stories of war take place on battlefields where soldier battles soldier and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What the reader experiences while reading the novel, is entirely different from what he expects from a typical war story. Absolutes must be absent from the text, if O Brien is to illustrate how any of our mythologies, including courage, frequently fail to meet up to actual experience. As many have noted, O Brien ingeniously facilitates a mood of incongruity, or disconnection, between fiction and fact in The Things They Carried through sheer structure. By blurring lines between fantasy and reality, THINGS truly becomes a contradiction of itself. As Catherine Calloway notes, one of the ways in which O Brien achieves this blurring of lines, is to model the narrator of THINGS after himself, a drafted Vietnam war veteran, a Harvard graduate, and a writer with the same name of Tim O Brien (para. 3). O Brien is aware that the practiced reader knows not to confuse the narrator with the author, and yet the reader is encouraged to do just that. The purpose, of course, is to keep the reader as unbalanced, as unsure, of what we are told to be truths, as is the Vietnam soldier. Another way in which O Brien blurs fiction and fact is through his narrator s (heretofore referred to as Tim), constant and contradictory claims as to the veracity of his stories. One moment Tim swears that a story is true, such as in the chapter The Man I Killed, when he speaks so realistically and in such detail, about killing an enemy soldier (THINGS 141), but ... • 25. Income Gap in Canada Question One: It is often said that in Canada, The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Respond. Be certain to differentiate between income and wealth. How has the occupy movement contributed to this debate? Inequality in Canada is a growing problem. As income rises for the rich and remains the same for the poor, a gap is forming between Canada s highest and lowest earners. This gap has sparked outrage by some, resulting in the Occupy Movement, and apathy in others. However, it can indeed be said that in Canada the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. The reason for Canada s large gap in wealth is best explained by changes in labour markets, changes in families and changes in public policies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, median net worth fell by $7,500 in 2005 in the lowest 10%, while increasing by between $237,000 and $659,000 in the top 10%. Therefore, wealth inequality rose as the highest earners were subject to wealth increases. When considering this, it is wholly possible to understand the saying that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer , as it is true. This was brought into the spotlight by the Occupy Movement, and the slogan of We are the 99% . This, in turn, begs the question; who are the one percent? The Canadian one percent are compose of 246,000 people, whose income is $405,000 (Yalnizyan, 2010). This one percent holds 13.8% of all incomes in Canada, and has seen its total income double (Yalnizyan, 2010). In fact, this one percent of the population accumulated 32% of all growth in incomes from 1997 to 2007 (Yalnizyan, 2010). In comparison, that same one percent only took 8% of all income growth in the 1950 s and 60 s (Yalnizyan, 2010). So, as the one percent accumulates more wealth and more of the growth in incomes, the gap grows. In response to the growing inequality between rich and poor Canadians, and the growing wealth of the top 1%, the Occupy Movement took to the streets in order to protest against the accumulation of the majority of wealth by the minority of people. Be it directly or indirectly we have all felt the negative effects on our society, our economy, and our safety. Why do Americans abuse drugs? There seems little progress toward an answer considering illicit drug use has gone from 8.3% to 9.4% since 2002. Clearly, we are no closer to a solution than we were fourteen years ago. One reason so many Americans use illicit drugs is the ease of availability. There is a near unlimited supply of drugs and people willing to sell them, especially in low income areas. Additionally, it is easy to purchase narcotics anonymously on the deep web. Another cause of drug abuse is self medication. People with depression or who are in pain often medicate their symptoms with illicit drugs. It is estimated that over 52% of drug related deaths in the U.S. are due to prescription drugs. The drama film directed by Martin Scorsese, Gangs of New York, provides us an account of the anarchy that occurred; following the life of a man named Amsterdam, the son of a popular Irish American leader, Priest Valon. Supported by the extraordinary acting performances by Daniel Day Lewis (aka Bill the Butcher) and Leonardo DiCaprio (as Amsterdam) the film is a massive achievement. Scorsese creates a visualization of American s primitive past, where violence and unrest was frequent in New York at the beginning of the Civil War. This is due to the editing and packaging of the story is filled with the same no nonsense attitude that is shared with the characters themselves. Fueled by the hostility between the different social groups who inhabit the Five Points. Every character lives on knives edge the whole film, as the groups live amongst each other in the crowded burrows. Scorsese uses this attitude to elegantly transition between the multiple plot lines within the film. In addition, the attitude gives context to the film, helping the plot lines build on top of each other slowly increasing the tension, adding value to the viewing experience. Pompadour embraced the grand lifestyle of the aristocracy including having her portrait painted numerous times by many artists, utilizing her influence in how she was painted and the messages those paintings portrayed (Jones). Her court painter, Francois Boucher represented her as an idealized beauty (Jones) especially in his masterful oil painting of 1756, Portrait of Madame de Pompadour, which showcased her opulent lifestyle, beauty, and intelligence (Davies 766) and status in the French court. In this portrait, Boucher sets Pompadour in an intimate scene, typical of Rococo style art, dressed in sumptuous silks, surrounded by books, flowers and elaborate draperies, at her ease, gazing into the distance, caught in a moment of thought. The Short and Long Term Effects of the Hunger Strikes in Northern Ireland The hunger strikes of 1980 and 1981 had highly significant consequences for Northern Ireland nationally and internationally. While at first they polarised the community, they eventually led to the beginnings of peace in Northern Ireland. Soon after Direct Rule was introduced in Northern Ireland in March 1972 Westminster created a new department, the Northern Ireland Office, which had responsibility for Irelandwhile a cross community successor to the Stormont system was devised [1]. William Whitelaw was appointed its head, under the title of Northern Ireland Secretary. Whitelaw aimed to improve his relations with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whitelaw later conceded that he had made a mistake in introducing special category status [6] as it led to the political upheavals [7] of 1980 and 1981. In late 1975 the Labour Secretary of State Merlyn Rees announced the phasing out of the special category status . Acting on advice that removing the status from inmates who were already granted it would result in major disturbances, Rees announced that newly convicted prisoners would not be granted the status. These prisoners were put in newly built cells called H block (or the Maze ). They were expected to wear prison uniform, carry out prison work, given little association with other prisoners and were no longer segregated from non paramilitary inmates. While Loyalists staged protests but soon accepted the conditions, republicans were far more determined in their objections. They created an unofficial anthem that captured the depth of their opposition: I ll wear no convict s uniform, Nor meekly serve my time, That England might Brand Ireland s fight Eight hundred years of crime[8]. Their protest escalated from the autumn of 1976 onwards. Initially they refused to wear prison clothes, which became know as being on the blanket . For refusing prison clothes the defiant prisoners were punished by being given only a blanket leaving them naked, confined permanently to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Personal Narrative-The Insanity Of A Video Production Company If you have ever involved yourself with video production companies you are aware that they can be frustrating. When I say frustration, the point I m trying to emphasize on is that there are several to choose from, which makes it difficult and annoying finding the right one. The finality of the experience will literally create insanity or drinking excessively. I was in the market for a professional video production company to help with some infomercial companies. Literally, there are hundreds of companies to select from on the internet. Every single one of those so called companies promised to do exactly what I wanted. Of course, they ll say anything to get your business. When in actuality, these companies hire immature employees with no experience, or knowledge of the task at hand. Yeah, ... If I ever have the need for another venture I will be calling them first. By bypassing the headaches in the first place, my life will be so much easier and give me time to concentrate on what I do excel in. I almost forgot to include my end results. When I received the finished videos I couldn t contain myself and my enthusiasm. My videos exceeded far beyond my expectations. I was so excited to get them up and running. I just knew from the quality and sincere dedication that they were going to be well received by the public. My infomercial companies are thriving and I am beginning to receive a lot of positive feedback. Success is just within my grasp; it s hard not to boast about a company who has created excellence. Experiment 3: Resonance Energy of Naphthalene by Bomb Calorimetry Cameron Fowler CHEM 457: Lab Section 4 Submitted: 11/4/10 Lab Group #3: Michael Hyle Neil Baranik Tim Riley Abstract: The enthalpy of combustion of naphthalene was experimentally determined to be 5030.44 ± 78.98 kJ/mol which was a 2.5% error from the literature value of 5160 ± 20 kJ/mol.2 The theoretical enthalpy of combustion of solid naphthalene was calculated to be 6862.68 kJ/mol using bond energies for the gaseous molecules, the heat of vaporization of liquid water and the literature value of the heat of sublimation of naphthalene, which was 72 ± 4 kJ/mol.2 The absolute value of the difference between the theoretical heat of combustion and the literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was desired to compare a theoretical value of enthalpy of combustion to a literature value. To do this, the theoretical value was calculated using a literature value for the heat of sublimation of naphthalene, the heat of vaporization of water and average bond energies, given in Table 1 of the lab packet.1 Equations (1) and (5) were used to calculate the theoretical enthalpy of combustion of gaseous naphthalene, where n was the number of moles, m was the number of bonds, and ΔH was the average bond energy: ∆Hcombustion, naphs=ni+mi*∆Hireactants ni+mi*∆Hiproducts (5) The theoretical value of the combustion of solid naphthalene was calculated by substituting their given values in the literature into equation (5) in place of their corresponding terms. Experimental: A more detailed explanation of procedures can be found in the lab packet.1 To summarize, samples of benzoic acid and naphthalene were combusted using the Parr 1341 Calorimeter with a Parr oxygen bomb. A massed benzoic acid pellet was placed onto the center of the combustion pan and 10 cm of nickel alloy fuse wire was massed and then threaded through both electrodes on the head of the bomb so that it lay firmly against the acid pellet. 1mL of distilled water was then placed in the bottom of the bomb in order to ensure that all the water produced by the ... • 44. The Value Of The Jaguar Essay The jaguar is a highly known animal with notable affiliation in the Pre Columbian Mesoamerican societies and belief systems. All major Mesoamerican cultures proudly presented a jaguar god. Jaguars are known for their power and aggressive strength. They are great hunters and one of the big cats that can tolerate water. Most information that is known about Mayan culture and Mesoamerican societies comes from the countless and scrupulous findings on stone monuments, murals, documents, adorned vases, and conventional sources, where we can survey that the Maya carried out religious exercises with most of these objects. This is evident of the Mayan jaguar lidded vessel from the Fresno Art Museum. Vessels are vases that were used not for just funerary purposes, but also for rituals, offerings, and a plethora of other daily activities. Other important details about jaguar symbolism in Mesoamerican cultures include the fact that the word for jaguar, bahlam, appears in many of the names of Mayan kings than any other animals. This is not surprising since the jaguar is the mighty emperor of crafty force. Andrea Stone and Marc Zender state in their book, Reading Maya Art: A Hieroglyphic Guide to Ancient Maya Paintings and Sculptures, that, The jaguars ferocity made it an ideal insignia of warriors who wore jaguar parts to wear it like a badge of honor, whether it was the head, skin, tail, or paws. To spread out jaguar skin was an expression for war, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Black Holes And Its Effects On Society Supermassive black holes are so mysterious when it comes to the knowledge we know about them. We still don t know much about them and there will always be conspiracies about them, but we still need to find more information about them to understand more. Black holes are developed when a star s core collapses and then mass is getting eaten by the core which leads to the star to die in a supernova explosion. This can go two ways, one is that the star turns into a neutron star, and the second is it turns into a black hole but only if the star is massive enough. There are known to be three kinds of black holes. Intermediate, stellar, and supermassive black holes. We still don t know how supermassive black holes are formed, but most scientists ... Eight X ray sources were found and scientist detected radio emissions from Cygnus X 1. A massive hidden companion was found and that was considered the first black hole to be discovered. (6) We have a lot of evidence to prove that supermassive black holes exist in galaxies. Scientist found evidence of a supermassive black hole in the center of the Milky Way, the galaxy NGC 4258, galaxy M87, and several more. Scientist verified the existence of black holes by studying the speed of the clouds of gas orbiting the galaxy regions. In 1994, the Hubble space telescope measured an unseen object that had an estimated mass of about 3 billion times the mass of the sun in our solar system. The unseen object was located in the center of the galaxy M87. Scientist measured the mass of the object through the motion of the object whirling around the center. (2) More evidence for the existence of supermassive black holes is the existence of quasars. Quasars are a massive and extremely remote celestial object that emits large amounts of energy. They are also one of the brightest objects in the universe. They are typically more than 100 times brighter than the galaxies they re in. Quasars emit light through disks of gas and stars that are known as an accretion disk. The accretion disk surrounds black holes. The closest quasars are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indirect effects may include anxiety and depression and the consequences of mass migration and regional conflicts. Addressing these occurrences is a pressing challenge for public health. • 47. Perception And Perception Of Perception Essay Perception serves more than one purpose to the human experience. Wikipedia defines Perception as the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment. This definition unfortunately describes only one of the services perception provides. I would like to offer instead the definition Perception is a collection of data filters, some natural but most created by education and experience, which serve to shape and enforce limits on sensory and intellectual data that is considered to provide the individual a world view in which to operate within. Similar definitions yes, but the differences are critical. In the Wikipedia definition, perception is nothing more than an interpreter of sensory information. It implies that all sensory information is considered, and considered equally. Additionally it implies that intellectual data such as words, symbols, and events are not subject to perceptional filters. These critical omissions remove from view that perception is subjective and subordinate to the human intellect, a key concept in the road to higher enlightenment which I will discuss in future posts. Perception provides to the human experience with: A world view to determine what sensory and intellectual data to consider and what to discard based upon (representative, not all inclusive): Personal Impact Personal Accountability Personal Interest Personal Relevance Ability to effect Sources ... The growth of the railroads, telegraph and later telephone lines stretching across the country created new opportunities for entrepreneurs and the people looking for work; and gave cheaper goods to consumers. The Gilded Age was a term used in the 1920s and 1930s derived from Mark Twain s novel of the same name, which mocked an era of serious social problems. Mark Twain and Charles Darwin saw the corruption in the politics, the ineffectiveness of the politicians, the frenzy in the marketplace and the widespread greed among the people. Because with growth in the economy comes the growth in income inequality. But this doesn t necessarily mean that there is a huge inequality in the concept of consumption in our society. Over time, the consumption among the less fortunate has become similar to that of the wealthier in some ways. There are now new technologies and knock off fashions that spread down the price scale too fast to distinguish the rich from the aspiring for long. There are also more available in regard to leisure activities for both the poor and the wealthy that are quite similar that makes the inequality a lot narrower. For example, if you would like to watch a movie, the wealthy can go to an expensive movie theater and spend lots of money on it but the poor can also catch the same movie in a different theater for literally nothing in comparison and get the same outcome. So the biggest difference in this situation is the experience of enjoying this movie, but they both accomplish what they intend to do. Also, there are now companies that turn out higher quality goods at low prices which helps close the gap between the rich and the poor. But for example, access to a good education is a way that the increasing income inequality affects people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Urban Residential And Manufacturing Versus Agricultural Water Urban residential and Manufacturing versus Agricultural Water Use Restrictions in California On April 1st, 2015 California Governor Jerry Brown passed an executive order calling for the reduction of water use in urban areas by 25 percent (average across all counties) relative to 2013 data (Bechtel). These restrictions did not include agricultural water uses despite Agriculture accounting for approximately 80 percent of water use within the state (Bechtel). On June 12, 2015 restrictions were placed on agricultural use that affected up to 114 senior water right holders (Sanders). These restrictions forbid farmers from using rivers that have been severely diminished by the drought as a source of water. However, they can still legally pump groundwater on their property and purchase water in the open market (Sanders). This means they don t necessarily have to reduce the amount of water they use, it only strips them of one (for some farmers very important) water resource. Supporters of this order include State Water officials, State Senators Jim Nielson and Fran Pavley among other representatives, California farmers, Senior water rights holders, and of course Governor Jerry Brown (Stevens).
