Borrelia Arthropod Vectors
There are four different strain of the Borrelia genus that is known to be found in arthropod vectors.
The Borrelia bacteria is a spirochete bacterium that is located in the gut of the infected vector. Borrelia
afzelii is commonly found in Asian and European countries, Borrelia garinii is found throughout
Europe, Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii are both strains that are seen here in the United
States. Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii are both found in the vector, a deer tick, or Lxodes
Scapularis. However, the strain Borrelia mayonii is found in the nymph stage of the tick instead of the
adult stage like the strain Borrelia burgdorferi.
Tick are not bugs, but they are small arachnids, that are part of the parasitiform. Ticks in these cases
are considered arthropod vectors which are an arachnid that can transmit the disease causing organism
from themselves to the host that they are feeding on. Ticks are external parasites, and they live by
feeding on the blood of a mammal, bird, reptiles, and amphibians. Tick pick up the disease causing
bacterium from a reservoir host that they are able to feed off. A reservoir host is a ... Show more

That means that one point two to one point four percent of ticks are already carrying the bacteria that
is known as Lyme Disease. Another way of thinking about how many ticks have this bacterium
already is that fifty percent of the deer ticks in the eastern United States are infected with either
Borrelia burgdorferi or Borrelia mayonii. One thing that is interesting is that ninety five percent of the
cases only occur in fourteen states, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts,
Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia,
and Wisconsin. There are also neighboring areas that infected ticks have become a problem are those

Comparing The Plot Scenes In Hamlet And Gregory Doran s...
William Shakespeare s Hamlet has been portrayed several times during the past centuries but what
distinguishes each piece of work is how the directors approached the play. Hamlet without doubt is a
troubled man overcome with the death of his father and the discovery that us uncle now step father
murdered his late father, the king of Denmark. Kenneth Branagh s and Gregory Doran s portrayals of
the famous closet scene demonstrates two extremes of Hamlet s relationship with his mother Gertrude.
Branagh s version of the closet scene uses bright pastel colours such as blue, pink and red to show
happiness and innocence. The use of light blue hints the youth of a child as it is often associated with
the birth of boys in today s society. The only exception is Hamlet, as he is dressed all in black. His
black clothing is not only used as a way to signify Hamlet s mourning of his father but also as a way
to represent how Hamlet himself is corrupt. This contrasts with Gertrude s appearance who is dressed
neatly in golden. Gold which symbolizes wealth and power is used to describe Gertrude s position of
power in the kingdom. Additionally, the golden dress represents purity and demonstrates how
Gertrude is oblivious to the corruption taking place in her kingdom.
On the other hand, Doran s version uses much darker tones such as dark blues, silvers and golds. The
use of silver and gold demonstrates the wealth and power the royal family has over themselves and
society while the dark blue

Effects Of Sleep Walking And Night Walking
Abstract
One of the most frightening sleep occurrences to a family is when a family member is having a night
terror, or sleep walking. It s difficult to understand how someone could have their eyes open, walking,
and talking but not really being awake. For the person that has the sleeping issue, they have no
memory of the occurrence. However, observing a person going through one of these episodes makes it
appear that the person is witnessing pure horror, not to mention the confusion if they happen to wake
up. This paper will explore the psychophysiological aspects of parasomnia with a focus on night
terrors and sleep walking. Including psychological aspects that pertain to the mind, and the
physiological aspects that pertain to the living system of sleepwalking and night terrors. The paper
will also examine an actual current case of a 4 year old that currently has night terrors, and an 18 year
old young adult that sleep walks almost nightly. Finally, the paper will conclude with current
treatments for both night terrors and sleeping walking when the person doesn t just grow out of the
sleep disturbance. Taking a closer look into parasomnias, will offer more clarity in understanding how
important good quality sleep is to all people of all ages.

Terrors, and Sleep Walking
Sleep Disorders: Night Terrors and Sleepwalking
The one human need that all organisms require is sleep. The body will eventually shut down to get rest
because it requires sleep to function properly. Adequate sleep is what keeps our learning and memory
on point. Sleep deprived people can t focus their attention to its full potential, because there is a lack
in a basic human need. Studies done on both animals and humans suggest that the quantity and quality
of sleep have a profound impact on learning and memory. According to the article, In the study,
findings suggest that sleep disturbances can be detected using both subjective and objective measures
and that, for these individuals, fluctuations in sleep duration may have real consequences for daytime
anxiety (Mullin et al., 2017). When sleep lacks the other areas fall short. Good

W B Yeats Research Paper
Irish poets, learn your trade, sing whatever is well made, scorn the sort now growing up all out of
shape from toe to top. (Yeats n.p.) If there is one thing that can drive a human being, it is pride.
Whether this pride is in yourself, or in a larger form, it is a fuel that keeps us moving and improving
and constantly creating. William Butler Yeats was an artist who had immense pride, not just for
himself as a writer, but exorbitantly in his home country of Ireland. This would be described as
nationalism in modern times. Nationalism is defined as an extreme form of patriotic feeling,
principles, or efforts, especially accompanied by a feeling of superiority over other countries. From
adulthood to his elderly years, Yeats kept to this definition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This minority had controlled political, social, and cultural life in Ireland since the end of the 17th
century, and many who belonged to this group preferred to think of themselves as Irish born English
folk; however, W.B. Yeats was incredibly proud of his Irish heritage, with a strong self image of an
artist. He preferred to be prideful about the rich culture, he was a part of, preferring the beautiful
scenery of home to anywhere else in the world. These personal convictions caused many accuse him
of elitism, but also contributed to his perceived greatness as a writer. In 1885 his nationalist attitude
only grew stronger, this largely due in part to his new found friend John O Leary. O Leary was a
recently returned prisoner, and famous patriot, who had been incarcerated and exiled 20 years for his
revolutionary nationalist activities. The former revolutionist had a great love for Irish arts and
literature, which inspired Yeats to begin producing many poems based on Irish legends, folklore,
ballads, and songs. While his friendship with John O Leary was brief, it only nourished his
nationalism and made way for many literary works to come in his

Spaghetti Western Cultures In Sergio Leone s A Fistful Of...
The term Spaghetti Western became popular in the mid 60 s in which A Fistful of Dollars was released
as the first film of a trilogy, but this was not Sergio Leone s first western movie. Leone s films were
not of a typical American western that had been released in previous years, but instead a reaction or
his own take of the Western frontier and through many aspects of his films we can see influences from
Italian cinematic styles and approaches. This was an interesting time for the western film industry as
John Wayne was sick with lung cancer and had a lung removed in 1964. Other notable stars in the
Western genre were filming other productions and this was a perfect time for Leone to introduce his
Western films from his approach. Between 1950 and 1963 the production of Westerns in Hollywood
had gone from 34 percent of all features released, to a mere 9 percent in 1963 from about 150 films to
15. As a result, Europeans began to produce their own westerns and in the process revitalized the old
stories with distinctive elements and hybrid forms. (Frayling) There was a demand or a void of these
Italian films in America as many producers shifted their focus on television as that market was rapidly
expanding in the United States. As a result of this we saw Between 1962 and 1976 over 450 westerns
were produced in Italy or involved Italian financial interest. (Frayling)
One of the major aspects in which Sergio Leone subverts the conventions of the Classical Western
film genre

Benefits Of Imperialism
Imperialism s Benefits
Brodie Talbot
Do the benefits of imperialism outweigh the costs? Yes. Imperialism is the best for the country. The
main reasons that the power of imperialism is important for the United States is because of the land
and resources that each place has, money, and the language and government. The policy of extending
the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries. (Dictionary Collins, English 2016)

How To Hit The Snare Drum
It is important to make it a habit to assume the correct sitting position every time you sit behind your
drum kit. This reduces the chance of any form of injuries because your muscles will not overstrain but
rather support your body as you play your instruments. Without a doubt, the backbeat is the
foundation of all rock drumming. The backbeat is the driving rhythm that the snare drum plays. You
almost always play this rhythm on the second and fourth beats of the measure. The backbeat gives
rock music its characteristically driving feel. As a rock drummer, you need to play the backbeat with
conviction. No limpwristed, drop the stick on the head stuff here. You need to really hit the drum.

Essay Military Bearing
In the United States NAVY, military bearing is the root in which every service member practices in
order to carry out good discipline and ethics throughout ones military careers. The Eleven General
Orders of a Sentry, The Articles of the UCMJ, as well as our own Sailors Creed illustrates how a
military service member should conduct himself or herself on a daily basis, on and off duty.
Dependability is a major aspect of military bearing. Without dependability, one can neither perform
properly in the workspace nor be depended upon by their coworkers, or chain of command to carry
out their military duties adequately. A military member is required to be punctual, and reliable. Lack
of this in a service member not only hinders the mission ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Respecting senior officers is imperative in order to maintain good military order up and down the
chain of command. Punctuality is a key aspect of ones NAVY career. Tardiness can affect the mission
of the command. In such an event as General Quarte! rs, one can not afford to be late in carrying out
their assigned tasks, for the repercussions can be life threatening to ones fellow shipmates, as well as
to the integrity of the ship. Being late to watch can affect the quality of work being done in the work
environment. Quarters is a vital necessity within our NAVY where ones chain of command can brief
all hands on new information concerning either the workspaces or ones specific job. Watch standing is
every sailor s duty. Without a proper and thorough turnover it hinders the effectiveness of the watch
station. Missing information during turnover can result in wasted man hours, equipment damage, or
can compromise the security of the command in which one works. Physical readiness standards are
another element of military bearing. Physical readiness standards or better known as PRT s are held
every six months for NAVY personnel. The PRT is a test in which each member of the NAVY must
perform and pass within certain standards in order to maintain peek performance in his or her military
careers. Such aspects of the PRT are based upon sit up, sit and reach, push ups, as well as

John Milton Demand The Freedom Of The Press
In Areopagitica John Milton demand the freedom of the press, actually the freedom of the author. He
made the following demand: Give me the liberty to know, to utter, and to argue freely according to
conscience, above all liberties. This issue was personal for Milton, as he had suffered censorship
himself in his efforts to publish several tracts defending divorce. Areopagitica is full of divine and
classical references which Milton uses to strengthen his argument. This is particularly fitting because
it was being addressed to the Calvinist Presbyterians who comprised Parliament at that time. The
Areopagitica was an attack directed against the Licensing Order Act of 1643, which demanded that an
author s work be approved by the government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He resisted this incorporates even the awful or blasphemous books, since we can earn from their
wrongs and find what is valid by considering what is not valid. Milton s point is that God supplied
each individual with the reason, through and through freedom, and inner voice to judge thoughts for
themselves, so the thoughts in a content ought to be dismissed by the author s own decision, not by a
permitting expert. Additionally, the soul is not defiled just by experiencing deception. Milton brings
up that experiencing deception can really prompt righteous activity, for example, how St. Paul s
believers had secretly and intentionally consumed Ephesian books thought to be magick . Milton at
that point contends that Parliament s authorizing request will flop in its motivation to smother
shameful, dissident, and derogatory books: this request of permitting conduces nothing to the end for
which it was fram d . The request was intended to redress conduct by keeping the spread of a disease
caused by terrible books. Milton objects, contending that the authorizing request is excessively
clearing, on the grounds that even the Bible itself had been verifiably restricted to perusers for
containing hostile portrayals of disrespect and evil men. Milton additionally calls attention to that
Parliament won t shield the oblivious from terrible books by this Order, on the

Social Construction Of Deviance And Crime
Interactionists do not believe that deviants and criminals are different to others, they believe that
everyone commits deviant acts however only some are caught, stigmatized and ridiculed for them.
Deviance and crime is relative to the time and place that you are living in. No particular action itself is
deviant or a crime is all depends on society, and how people react to it. Howard becker stated that
social groups create deviance by making rules whose infraction constitute deviance (Becker, 1963)
However functionalists would argue that we need consensus, and that these rules that define deviance
help to give our society order. (Thompson, 2011)
Becker may however argue that due to the social construction of deviance, it requires two groups

Compare And Contrast Orzco And Frida Kahlo
A while back my uncle took my brother and me to a trip to the Museum of Contemporary of Art in
San Diego. However, on that day, the museum had an event of Mexican heritage artist. I do not
remember exactly all the details on that day, but fortunately, I do remember one painting I was able to
remember, the Flower Seller. At the time, I could not understand why the picture had impact me and
was the only one I can remember well. When I was young, I thought the young girl was decorating,
but now I doubt she was decorating it. Today, I do not know what the girl is doing anymore. Is she
about to carry it? What is in the background? Is she in a market or a field? And why is it that I
remember this painting so well?
Not only have I seen Rivera s painting but also another Mexican artist, for example; Jose Clemente
Orozco and Frida Kahlo. I saw their paintings at the Museum of Art in San Diego. I cannot remember
what pictures I have seen on that day last time I saw it. One of the things I realize is the way they
represent their art. They express their past and their present, the rich culture of the Mexican history,
the way they express their ideology and their political view of their time, and their surrealist dream in
case of Frida Kahlo. One of the remarkable ways they express is by putting their expression on the

Death in Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for...
Death in Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died
Emily Dickinson s two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death and I Heard A Fly Buzz When I
Died, revolve around one central theme, death. Though the two do centralize around the theme of
death they both have slightly different messages or beliefs about what is to come after death. By
discussing both of the poems and interpreting their meanings, the reader can gain a fuller
understanding of the message Dickinson is trying to send to her audience and a greater feel for what
may lie ahead in the afterlife. When Dickinson writes in her first line, I heard a fly buzz when I died, it

In stanza three the speaker is preparing for a journey into an afterlife that may lie ahead. Dickinson
writes, I willed my keepsakes, signed away what portion of me I could make assignable, and then
there interposed a fly. After already dying the speaker feels that it is no longer a must to have the
possessions that most living people deem necessary and leaves them behind as her soul comes closer
to it?s fate. The speaker is getting ready to make this transition to the next world but then the fly
reappears and puts a halt to this alteration. The final stanza of this poem includes the lines, With blue,
uncertain, stumbling buzz, between the light and me; and then the windows failed, and then I could
not see to see. The word light in this stanza can be associated with some heavenly existence or higher
power that awaits the speaker.
The buzzing fly blocks her view though of where she is heading and the light that was once there is
now gone. Though the poem deals with what may await the speaker in the afterlife the reader is still
left wondering if anything does await them after death because the speaker does not reach an afterlife
in the poem. Dickinson?s poem Because I Could Not Stop For Death serenely describes how the
speaker is escorted by Death in his carriage. Death carries the speaker slowly and peacefully through
time. It is ironic that Dickinson writes of Death?s civility and politeness during a time that is mostly
associated with anger and sadness.

The Role Of Empowerment In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Sparknotes emphasizes the role of empowerment by stating, The witch trials empower several
characters in the play who are marginalized in Salem s society . In fact, by empowering individuals
who were previously powerless, the society (in The Crucible) crumbles. Arthur Miller is trying to
convey that absolute power will often lead to corruption. Abigail Williams, a 17 year old Puritan girl,
is a good example of power abuse because once she realizes that an accuser can be omnipotent, she
embraces the role. To cover up that she s been dancing in the woods, she blames Tituba, a servant, and
others for her crimes. First she accuses Tituba falsely, so she can get out of trouble. I never called him!
Tituba. Tituba (Miller 85). Tituba takes the blame for her. Abigail begins condemning anyone who
does not please her. Abigail becomes the ringleader (Staffaroni) for the other girls, who had been
caught dancing in the woods. They follow her lead and start spouting out names of innocent people for
those they wish to see jailed, like a volcano spouts out lava. Miller uses Abigail to show the serious
consequences that can arise from a paranoid political climate. She flips the hierarchy of their society.
Abigail threatens judge Danforth, Let you be aware of Mr. Danforth think you be so mighty that s the
power of hell may not turn your wits. Beware of it (Miller 126). With Abigail s actions Miller is trying
to convey that someone gaining even a small amount of power can corrupt

these dance videos is unique and similar with its own story behind the dance movements and settings.
The video, Café Mueller, performed in 1978 by Pina Bausch, was very interesting to watch but
confusing to determine the actual story plot. In the beginning, a woman enters through a revolving
door and hurries around a dark room of chairs. She appears to be confused, scurrying in many
directions, almost like the quickness of life in a dark empty world. As she leaves, another woman

Eassy On Nero And Nero
Its 54 AD and Nero is the emperor. Everyone thinks he is an arrogant person who doesn t care at all
about Rome, but only for the riches. But, little do they know that he is the one protecting their homes
from being robbed, he is stopping criminals and he is keeping their city safe from danger. Nero has
extraordinary powers that he received when struck by lightning while playing his lyre. He received
these powers during the sixth year of his reign and that is when everything went downhill. He couldn t
control the powers and that led him to do crazy things such as killing his own mother and executing
innocent Romans. This gave Nero a very bad reputation and many people began disliking him. But, he
learned to control his power and chose to do good with it. He did this to make up for all the bad he did
when he went out of control. Although he has many, his most powerful move is sending waves when
he sings that will almost instantly destroy his enemy. Nero can also send out blasts when he plays his
lyre. No man or thing could stop Nero until one day, he met his match. Nero was walking down the
streets of Rome in search of someone in need of him, when he saw Ignis. Ignis was a monster that
may look like any ordinary Roman man, but he was far from that. He was a fire breathing, deadly
beast who burned down shops every night. But Nero knew exactly what to do, he pulled out his lyre
and started playing. It did nothing to Ignis. He began to play faster but Ignis got faster too. So

Importance Of Ethics In Anthropology
Vishan Neupane Professor Ritu Khanduri ANTH 2322 002 1 December 2017 Ethics, fieldwork and
anthropology Anthropology is a worldwide discipline which involve social institution, humanities and
natural sciences. Cultural anthropology studies the contemporary human cultures and shows how
social behavior are formed and how they shape the world around them. Anthropological researchers
always have ethical obligations, especially to the materials they study, and the group of people with
whom they work. When exploring the community, anthropologists learn about matters that their
informants would prefer to keep their identity secret which leads them to protect informant identity.
Social research can impact ethical dilemmas. A simple mistake of the anthropologist may lead to
social isolation of an informant. Anthropologists should always know whether the group they are
being researched wishes to stay anonymous or receive recognition. During an anthropologist s
fieldwork, anthropologists look over enculturation. Enculturation is a process by which we obtain and
transmit culture which is experienced universally among humans. It teaches the individual about their
role in the society as well as what kind of behavior is accepted within that culture and lifestyle. Some
anthropologists are ethnocentric. They critique other groups relative to their own ethnic group or
culture, especially with concern for customs, language, behavior, and religion. The group of people

Josef Mengele s Research
Throughout World War II, multiple Nazi researchers and physicians experimented upon thousands of
concentration camp prisoners, in painful and often deadly ways. Arguably the most horrific of them all
was Dr. Josef Mengele and his experiments conducted on twins, dwarfs, and prisoners with physical
abnormalities. Mengele s primary aim in research was to prove that certain traits such as eye colour,
obesity, and nasal features were inherited and thusly could be bred out of existence. This interest
stemmed from the Nazi obsession with a pure race, which ultimately led to the extreme violation and
sterilization of undesirable groups . (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84)

One of the main issues is whether or not it is ethically sound to use the results of the medical research
that the Nazi s conducted during World War II; there is much debate on this topic, with some saying
that the research should not be used because most of the experiments were not well designed, which
would result in data that is valueless. Others argue that although the data may have value, it is not
ethical to use it because of the horrible ways in which the data was obtained. (Skolnik, 2016, p. 84).
Another lesson that can be imparted from the occurrences of the Holocaust is the need for some type
of regulation on a global scale of the research and medical practices taking place all over the world;
although this is a very complicated and difficult practice, and although the vast majority of researchers
would never commit such atrocities, if researchers such as Josef Mengele are left to carry out any
experiments and procedures that they wish, the consequences could be terrible. Research cannot be
carried out unchecked; there have to be ethical guidelines in place and these guidelines have to be
enforced in some

Salem Witchcraft Trials Essay
Salem Witchcraft Trials Thesis Statement ================ The Salem Witchcraft Trials
occurred because of the depth of Salem Puritans belief in witchcraft and the devil. Introduction
============ The Salem Witchcraft trials started in 1692 resulting in 19 executions and 150
accusations of witchcraft. This was the biggest outbreak of witchcraft hysteria in colonial New
England. The trials began because three young girls, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams and Ann Putnam
began having hysterical fits, convulsions and terrifying visions after being caught engaging in
forbidden fortune telling[1]. The doctors couldn t diagnose the condition, so the puritans termed it as

The first women to be accused of witchcraft in Salem were seen as different and as social outcasts:
Tituba, a slave; Sarah Good, a homeless beggar; and Sarah Osborne, a sickly old woman who married
her servant. These women were unpopular and it was easy to point fingers at them. Gossips and
rumors were enough to accuse them. Tituba[3] was a dark skinned slave who lived in the household of
the Reverend Samuel Parris. She was familiar with the West Indian Voodoo and practicing magic. In
the evenings Tituba entertained little Betty and her cousin Abigail Williams by the kitchen fire. She
played fortune telling games and told them stories of magic and spirits from the Caribbean. Tituba was
pointed out by the three girls and accused of teaching them witchcraft and fortune telling, which
resulted in their strange behavior. Tituba did not deny the allegations. She confessed to being a witch
after Reverend Parris beat her. Because she confessed, she was not executed. In her trial she said The
devil came to me and bid me serve him and talked about black dogs, red cats, yellow birds, and a
white haired man who bade her sign the devil s book. She also identified Sarah Good and Sarah
Osborne as witches. Since the people were superstitious and believed in the

Puritans In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s, The Scarlet Letter, the Puritans are depicted as a sad and uniform group of
people. Hawthorne never explicitly states his negative views towards the Puritans, rather he chooses to
imply these views through his diction, color symbolism, comparing and contrasting, and his use of
irony. In the first chapter, Hawthorne describes the Puritans as, a throng of bearded men, in sad
colored garments and gray, steeple crowned hats, intermixed with women, some wearing hoods... (55).
Hawthorne, using the color gray, portrays the Puritans as depressing and rigid people. The color gray
is often used to represent people with sangfroid and is also associated with conformity. Gray also has a
subduing effect on other colors in the same way that the Puritans try to control Hester s heterodox
behavior. By depicting the men and women as indistinguishable, Hawthorne further criticizes the
Puritan uniformity and attempt to hide human nature. As a Romantic, Hawthorne believed that nature
was superior to society and in nature nothing is uniform, so when the ... Show more content on

The townspeople revere Dimmesdale for his outward piety but fail to recognize his secret sin.
Hawthorne portrays the Puritans as shallow with only an understanding of outwardly appearances.
Hawthorne also implies that the Puritans are misguided in believing that imperfect people can and
should be perfect. He also uses irony when the Puritans interpret the great red letter in the sky... for
Angel (153). The letter A was previously given to Hester with the putative meaning of adulteress, now
Hawthorne gives the scarlet letter to Dimmesdale. Yet the Puritans are naive to the truth of
Dimmesdale s sin even when shown evidence. From the evidence above, it can be inferred that
Hawthorne abhors the Puritans, he implies this through color symbolism, comparing and contrasting,
and irony through his diction in the text.

The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner Research Paper
In Samuel Tayler Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses many supernatural,
macabre, and Gothic elements to get his theme across to the reader. These elements include: the
strange weather, the Albatross, Death and Life in Death, the multiple spirits, the madness of the pilot
and his boy. In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the weather goes through some strange and
inexplicable changes. The weather is fine until the Mariner s unnamed ship reaches the equator, and
then it turns nasty. The storm that overtakes them is described as a giant beast with huge wings that
strike the ship and drive it toward the South Pole. Just as Coleridge takes a leaf from Sam I Am s book

After the Mariner learns to pray, he sleeps for a long time and when he wakes up it rains and the dead
bodies of his crewmates are possessed by angelic spirits sent down to him by Mary. These angelic
crew members take up their previous posts and sail the ship. The ship is driven forward by the Spirit
of the South Pole, who is forced to by the angelic spirits residing in the ship s crew and it travels nine
fathoms under the ship. As the ship is traveling along, friends of the Spirit of the South Pole converse
with each other The Spirit of the South Pole cannot stay with the ship forever though so it charges two
other spirits with the burden of speeding the ship along its journey. These two new spirits make the
ship travel so fast, that they put the Mariner in a trance because they were travelling at a speed so fast
that no human life could withstand it. The use of spirits is meant to show that those who are followers
of God have dominion over things that are not God fearing. This explains why the Spirit of the South
Pole drove the ship onward in compliance with the orders of the angelic crew even though it did not
want to (Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Blended Worship By Robert Webber
Blended Worship Defined Most church members have a misperception of what blended worship truly
is. Because of the worship wars of the past two decades, the typical church member thinks blended
worship is a service that uses both contemporary and traditional worship music. While this may be one
aspect of blended worship, it fails to capture its full meaning. Robert Webber states that the
distinguishing features of blended worship can be arranged under three headings content, structure,
and style. 1 According to Webber, the content of blended worship addresses three areas; the language
of mystery, the language of story, and the language of symbol.2 The language of mystery
acknowledges the unknowable nature of God. The language of story refers to the metanarrative of the
Bible; God s redemptive plan for fallen man. The language of symbol describes how we experience
the worship of the Holy Spirit. Webber asserts that worship
acknowledges the transcendence, the great glory and incomprehensible nature of God the Father. It
tells the story from beginning to end of how God created, how the world fell away from him, how he
became involved in the history of the world in Israel and in his incarnation in Jesus to rescue the world
through his death, resurrection, and coming in glory to reign as lord over all creation. And it unleashes
the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in the assembled people, in ministry, in Word and
Sacrament, and it connects God and

Motivated During Winter
3 Tips to Stay Motivated During Winter During winter, many struggle to sustain the fitness that they
worked so hard to obtain when the weather was warm. Cold temperatures, rain, and daylight savings
are the common factors ruining cyclists motivation to train. However there are ways to still sustain a
high fitness level, even through bad weather. On cold winter mornings, the temptation of sleeping
through your alarm to stay warm in the comfort of your bed is often too much. A good way to force
yourself to get out of bed on these mornings is to have organised a ride with a friend. That way you
will have to get out of bed unless you want to abandon your mate. Indoor trainers are very helpful to

Brown v Board of Education Essay
On the seventeenth day in May 1954 a decision was made which changed things in the United States
dramatically. For millions of black Americans, news of the U.S. Supreme Court s landmark decision in
Brown v. Board of Education meant, at last, that they and their children no longer had to attend
separate schools. Brown v. Board of Education was a Supreme Court ruling that changed the life of
every American forever.
In Topeka, Kansas, a black third grader named Linda Brown had to walk one mile through a railroad
switchyard to get to her black elementary school, even though a white elementary school was only
seven blocks away. Linda s father, Oliver Brown, tried to enroll her in the white elementary school,

Brown and the NAACP appealed to the Supreme Court on October 1, 1951. Their case was combined
with other cases that challenged school segregation in South Carolina, Virginia, and Delaware. The
Supreme Court first heard the cases on December 9, 1952, but failed to reach a decision. The judges
had to decide whether or not the writers of the Fourteenth Amendment had desegregated schools in
mind. The court ruling eventually came to be unanimous. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
asked this question in the decision read on May 17, 1954: Does segregation of children in public
schools solely on the basis of race, even though the physical facilities and other tangible factors may
be equal, deprive children of the minority group of equal educational opportunities? (The National
Center for Public Research). They struck down the separate but equal doctrine of Plessy for public
education saying that it has no place , ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, and required the desegregation of
schools across America (The National Center For Public Research).
On that Monday in May, the high court s ruling that outlawed school segregation in the United States
generated urgent news flashes on the radio and frenzied black. One swift and unanimous decision by
the top judges in the land was going to end segregation in public schools. Southern politicians reacted
with such fury and fear that they immediately called the day Black Monday. South Carolina Gov.

The Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking And Novel Risk...
Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In The
United States
In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on
the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum C
reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic has not
been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United States in
1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease can also
result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers, 4,791 former smokers,
and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years 1988 and 1994. Three
thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive proteins had little information.
This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. In the analysis for fibrinogen, 2,000
people lacked the information for fibrinogen. Because the participants in the fibrinogen analysis had to
be over 40 years of age, 9350 were left for this analysis. Between 1991 and 1994 (phase 2 of the
study), homocysteine levels were measured. Close to 1,500 were missing homocysteine values, so
7,458 were examined.
The data for the study was collected through home interviews and clinical examinations. Patients had
their blood pressure measured six times total (three in the home

Analysis Of The Circumplex Model In On Golden Pond
The Circumplex Model: Adaptability and Flexibility Throughout On Golden Pond, it is apparent that
Chelsea, Norman, and Ethel are rigidly enmeshed. According to Olson s circumplex model, rigidly
enmeshed families have authoritarian leadership, strict discipline, roles rarely change, there is too little
change. Additionally, enmeshment in families is illustrated by very high closeness, very high loyalty,
high dependency, and a lack of individuality (Sanders Bell, 2011). Although Chelsea is distant with
her family in the number of visits it is an artificial distance of time and space. They are strongly
emotionally entangled as demonstrated through the ability of the family to emotionally affect one and
other. Slightly like the characters in On Golden Pond, the family in Stepmom appear to be chaotically
enmeshed. The circumplex model claims families who are chaotic present with a lack of leadership,
erratic discipline, dramatic role shifts, and too much change (Sanders Bell, 2011). Chaos is present in
the structure of the two living environments of the children: one environment is structured and the
other one is disorderly. This leads to confusion for the children because the system lacks consistency.
Enmeshment is personified through the children s emotional fusion with their mother. When Jackie is
upset with Isabel, the children are upset with Isabel. The children and the mother s emotions are
intertwined. On the other hand, Rita slightly contrasts the two families above as she appears to be
rigidly disengaged instead of enmeshed. Rita and Denny are not intimately close. This is illustrated as
Rita responds to a question by saying, loyalty? I [have] you know, I [have] tried to explain it to my
husband ... I think he [is] thick (Gilbert, 1983). Rita s family lacks the flexibility to change. People get
married and have kids. There is no self exploration, enlightenment, and adaptability is absent. The
Concrete Content and Abstract Process Norman characterized several content and process issues
throughout On Golden Pond. The first part of the movie exposes Norman s fixation on his age and
pending death. From his confrontation with the kids, while refueling his boat to his efforts about

  • 2. Borrelia Arthropod Vectors There are four different strain of the Borrelia genus that is known to be found in arthropod vectors. The Borrelia bacteria is a spirochete bacterium that is located in the gut of the infected vector. Borrelia afzelii is commonly found in Asian and European countries, Borrelia garinii is found throughout Europe, Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii are both strains that are seen here in the United States. Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii are both found in the vector, a deer tick, or Lxodes Scapularis. However, the strain Borrelia mayonii is found in the nymph stage of the tick instead of the adult stage like the strain Borrelia burgdorferi. Tick are not bugs, but they are small arachnids, that are part of the parasitiform. Ticks in these cases are considered arthropod vectors which are an arachnid that can transmit the disease causing organism from themselves to the host that they are feeding on. Ticks are external parasites, and they live by feeding on the blood of a mammal, bird, reptiles, and amphibians. Tick pick up the disease causing bacterium from a reservoir host that they are able to feed off. A reservoir host is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another way of thinking about how many ticks have this bacterium already is that fifty percent of the deer ticks in the eastern United States are infected with either Borrelia burgdorferi or Borrelia mayonii. One thing that is interesting is that ninety five percent of the cases only occur in fourteen states, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Wisconsin. There are also neighboring areas that infected ticks have become a problem are those are Northern California, Oregon, and Washington ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing The Plot Scenes In Hamlet And Gregory Doran s... William Shakespeare s Hamlet has been portrayed several times during the past centuries but what distinguishes each piece of work is how the directors approached the play. Hamlet without doubt is a troubled man overcome with the death of his father and the discovery that us uncle now step father murdered his late father, the king of Denmark. Kenneth Branagh s and Gregory Doran s portrayals of the famous closet scene demonstrates two extremes of Hamlet s relationship with his mother Gertrude. Branagh s version of the closet scene uses bright pastel colours such as blue, pink and red to show happiness and innocence. The use of light blue hints the youth of a child as it is often associated with the birth of boys in today s society. The only exception is Hamlet, as he is dressed all in black. His black clothing is not only used as a way to signify Hamlet s mourning of his father but also as a way to represent how Hamlet himself is corrupt. This contrasts with Gertrude s appearance who is dressed neatly in golden. Gold which symbolizes wealth and power is used to describe Gertrude s position of power in the kingdom. Additionally, the golden dress represents purity and demonstrates how Gertrude is oblivious to the corruption taking place in her kingdom. On the other hand, Doran s version uses much darker tones such as dark blues, silvers and golds. The use of silver and gold demonstrates the wealth and power the royal family has over themselves and society while the dark blue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Effects Of Sleep Walking And Night Walking Abstract One of the most frightening sleep occurrences to a family is when a family member is having a night terror, or sleep walking. It s difficult to understand how someone could have their eyes open, walking, and talking but not really being awake. For the person that has the sleeping issue, they have no memory of the occurrence. However, observing a person going through one of these episodes makes it appear that the person is witnessing pure horror, not to mention the confusion if they happen to wake up. This paper will explore the psychophysiological aspects of parasomnia with a focus on night terrors and sleep walking. Including psychological aspects that pertain to the mind, and the physiological aspects that pertain to the living system of sleepwalking and night terrors. The paper will also examine an actual current case of a 4 year old that currently has night terrors, and an 18 year old young adult that sleep walks almost nightly. Finally, the paper will conclude with current treatments for both night terrors and sleeping walking when the person doesn t just grow out of the sleep disturbance. Taking a closer look into parasomnias, will offer more clarity in understanding how important good quality sleep is to all people of all ages. Keywords: Slow Wave Sleep, REM Sleep, Memory, Learning, Sleep Deprivation, Parasomnia, Night Terrors, and Sleep Walking Sleep Disorders: Night Terrors and Sleepwalking The one human need that all organisms require is sleep. The body will eventually shut down to get rest because it requires sleep to function properly. Adequate sleep is what keeps our learning and memory on point. Sleep deprived people can t focus their attention to its full potential, because there is a lack in a basic human need. Studies done on both animals and humans suggest that the quantity and quality of sleep have a profound impact on learning and memory. According to the article, In the study, findings suggest that sleep disturbances can be detected using both subjective and objective measures and that, for these individuals, fluctuations in sleep duration may have real consequences for daytime anxiety (Mullin et al., 2017). • 5. W B Yeats Research Paper Irish poets, learn your trade, sing whatever is well made, scorn the sort now growing up all out of shape from toe to top. (Yeats n.p.) If there is one thing that can drive a human being, it is pride. Whether this pride is in yourself, or in a larger form, it is a fuel that keeps us moving and improving and constantly creating. William Butler Yeats was an artist who had immense pride, not just for himself as a writer, but exorbitantly in his home country of Ireland. This would be described as nationalism in modern times. Nationalism is defined as an extreme form of patriotic feeling, principles, or efforts, especially accompanied by a feeling of superiority over other countries. From adulthood to his elderly years, Yeats kept to this definition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This minority had controlled political, social, and cultural life in Ireland since the end of the 17th century, and many who belonged to this group preferred to think of themselves as Irish born English folk; however, W.B. Yeats was incredibly proud of his Irish heritage, with a strong self image of an artist. He preferred to be prideful about the rich culture, he was a part of, preferring the beautiful scenery of home to anywhere else in the world. These personal convictions caused many accuse him of elitism, but also contributed to his perceived greatness as a writer. In 1885 his nationalist attitude only grew stronger, this largely due in part to his new found friend John O Leary. O Leary was a recently returned prisoner, and famous patriot, who had been incarcerated and exiled 20 years for his revolutionary nationalist activities. The former revolutionist had a great love for Irish arts and literature, which inspired Yeats to begin producing many poems based on Irish legends, folklore, ballads, and songs. While his friendship with John O Leary was brief, it only nourished his nationalism and made way for many literary works to come in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Spaghetti Western Cultures In Sergio Leone s A Fistful Of... The term Spaghetti Western became popular in the mid 60 s in which A Fistful of Dollars was released as the first film of a trilogy, but this was not Sergio Leone s first western movie. Leone s films were not of a typical American western that had been released in previous years, but instead a reaction or his own take of the Western frontier and through many aspects of his films we can see influences from Italian cinematic styles and approaches. This was an interesting time for the western film industry as John Wayne was sick with lung cancer and had a lung removed in 1964. Other notable stars in the Western genre were filming other productions and this was a perfect time for Leone to introduce his Western films from his approach. Between 1950 and 1963 the production of Westerns in Hollywood had gone from 34 percent of all features released, to a mere 9 percent in 1963 from about 150 films to 15. As a result, Europeans began to produce their own westerns and in the process revitalized the old stories with distinctive elements and hybrid forms. (Frayling) There was a demand or a void of these Italian films in America as many producers shifted their focus on television as that market was rapidly expanding in the United States. As a result of this we saw Between 1962 and 1976 over 450 westerns were produced in Italy or involved Italian financial interest. He made the following demand: Give me the liberty to know, to utter, and to argue freely according to conscience, above all liberties. This issue was personal for Milton, as he had suffered censorship himself in his efforts to publish several tracts defending divorce. Areopagitica is full of divine and classical references which Milton uses to strengthen his argument. This is particularly fitting because it was being addressed to the Calvinist Presbyterians who comprised Parliament at that time. Additionally, the soul is not defiled just by experiencing deception. Milton brings up that experiencing deception can really prompt righteous activity, for example, how St. Paul s believers had secretly and intentionally consumed Ephesian books thought to be magick . Milton at that point contends that Parliament s authorizing request will flop in its motivation to smother shameful, dissident, and derogatory books: this request of permitting conduces nothing to the end for which it was fram d . The request was intended to redress conduct by keeping the spread of a disease caused by terrible books. Death in Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died Emily Dickinson s two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death and I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died, revolve around one central theme, death. Though the two do centralize around the theme of death they both have slightly different messages or beliefs about what is to come after death. By discussing both of the poems and interpreting their meanings, the reader can gain a fuller understanding of the message Dickinson is trying to send to her audience and a greater feel for what may lie ahead in the afterlife. In stanza three the speaker is preparing for a journey into an afterlife that may lie ahead. Dickinson writes, I willed my keepsakes, signed away what portion of me I could make assignable, and then there interposed a fly. After already dying the speaker feels that it is no longer a must to have the possessions that most living people deem necessary and leaves them behind as her soul comes closer to it?s fate. The speaker is getting ready to make this transition to the next world but then the fly reappears and puts a halt to this alteration. The final stanza of this poem includes the lines, With blue, uncertain, stumbling buzz, between the light and me; and then the windows failed, and then I could not see to see. The word light in this stanza can be associated with some heavenly existence or higher power that awaits the speaker. The buzzing fly blocks her view though of where she is heading and the light that was once there is now gone. Though the poem deals with what may await the speaker in the afterlife the reader is still left wondering if anything does await them after death because the speaker does not reach an afterlife in the poem. Dickinson?s poem Because I Could Not Stop For Death serenely describes how the speaker is escorted by Death in his carriage. Death carries the speaker slowly and peacefully through time. The Role Of Empowerment In The Crucible By Arthur Miller Sparknotes emphasizes the role of empowerment by stating, The witch trials empower several characters in the play who are marginalized in Salem s society . In fact, by empowering individuals who were previously powerless, the society (in The Crucible) crumbles. Arthur Miller is trying to convey that absolute power will often lead to corruption. Abigail Williams, a 17 year old Puritan girl, is a good example of power abuse because once she realizes that an accuser can be omnipotent, she embraces the role. To cover up that she s been dancing in the woods, she blames Tituba, a servant, and others for her crimes. First she accuses Tituba falsely, so she can get out of trouble. I never called him! Tituba. Tituba (Miller 85). Tituba takes the blame for her. Abigail begins condemning anyone who does not please her. Abigail becomes the ringleader (Staffaroni) for the other girls, who had been caught dancing in the woods. They follow her lead and start spouting out names of innocent people for those they wish to see jailed, like a volcano spouts out lava. Miller uses Abigail to show the serious consequences that can arise from a paranoid political climate. She flips the hierarchy of their society. Abigail threatens judge Danforth, Let you be aware of Mr. Danforth think you be so mighty that s the power of hell may not turn your wits. Beware of it (Miller 126). Nero has extraordinary powers that he received when struck by lightning while playing his lyre. He received these powers during the sixth year of his reign and that is when everything went downhill. He couldn t control the powers and that led him to do crazy things such as killing his own mother and executing innocent Romans. This gave Nero a very bad reputation and many people began disliking him. But, he learned to control his power and chose to do good with it. He did this to make up for all the bad he did when he went out of control. Although he has many, his most powerful move is sending waves when he sings that will almost instantly destroy his enemy. Nero can also send out blasts when he plays his lyre. No man or thing could stop Nero until one day, he met his match. Nero was walking down the streets of Rome in search of someone in need of him, when he saw Ignis. Ignis was a monster that may look like any ordinary Roman man, but he was far from that. Importance Of Ethics In Anthropology Vishan Neupane Professor Ritu Khanduri ANTH 2322 002 1 December 2017 Ethics, fieldwork and anthropology Anthropology is a worldwide discipline which involve social institution, humanities and natural sciences. Cultural anthropology studies the contemporary human cultures and shows how social behavior are formed and how they shape the world around them. Anthropological researchers always have ethical obligations, especially to the materials they study, and the group of people with whom they work. When exploring the community, anthropologists learn about matters that their informants would prefer to keep their identity secret which leads them to protect informant identity. Social research can impact ethical dilemmas. A simple mistake of the anthropologist may lead to social isolation of an informant. Anthropologists should always know whether the group they are being researched wishes to stay anonymous or receive recognition. During an anthropologist s fieldwork, anthropologists look over enculturation. Enculturation is a process by which we obtain and transmit culture which is experienced universally among humans. It teaches the individual about their role in the society as well as what kind of behavior is accepted within that culture and lifestyle. Some anthropologists are ethnocentric. They critique other groups relative to their own ethnic group or culture, especially with concern for customs, language, behavior, and religion. The group of people that falls in this ... From the evidence above, it can be inferred that Hawthorne abhors the Puritans, he implies this through color symbolism, comparing and contrasting, and irony through his diction in the text. ... • 33. The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner Research Paper In Samuel Tayler Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses many supernatural, macabre, and Gothic elements to get his theme across to the reader. These elements include: the strange weather, the Albatross, Death and Life in Death, the multiple spirits, the madness of the pilot and his boy. In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the weather goes through some strange and inexplicable changes. The weather is fine until the Mariner s unnamed ship reaches the equator, and then it turns nasty. The storm that overtakes them is described as a giant beast with huge wings that strike the ship and drive it toward the South Pole. Just as Coleridge takes a leaf from Sam I Am s book and says that the ice was here, the ice was there, / The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the Mariner learns to pray, he sleeps for a long time and when he wakes up it rains and the dead bodies of his crewmates are possessed by angelic spirits sent down to him by Mary. These angelic crew members take up their previous posts and sail the ship. The ship is driven forward by the Spirit of the South Pole, who is forced to by the angelic spirits residing in the ship s crew and it travels nine fathoms under the ship. As the ship is traveling along, friends of the Spirit of the South Pole converse with each other The Spirit of the South Pole cannot stay with the ship forever though so it charges two other spirits with the burden of speeding the ship along its journey. These two new spirits make the ship travel so fast, that they put the Mariner in a trance because they were travelling at a speed so fast that no human life could withstand it. The use of spirits is meant to show that those who are followers of God have dominion over things that are not God fearing. This explains why the Spirit of the South Pole drove the ship onward in compliance with the orders of the angelic crew even though it did not want to (Samuel Taylor Coleridge ... • 35. Blended Worship By Robert Webber Blended Worship Defined Most church members have a misperception of what blended worship truly is. Because of the worship wars of the past two decades, the typical church member thinks blended worship is a service that uses both contemporary and traditional worship music. While this may be one aspect of blended worship, it fails to capture its full meaning. Robert Webber states that the distinguishing features of blended worship can be arranged under three headings content, structure, and style. 1 According to Webber, the content of blended worship addresses three areas; the language of mystery, the language of story, and the language of symbol.2 The language of mystery acknowledges the unknowable nature of God. The language of story refers to the metanarrative of the Bible; God s redemptive plan for fallen man. The language of symbol describes how we experience the worship of the Holy Spirit. Webber asserts that worship acknowledges the transcendence, the great glory and incomprehensible nature of God the Father. It tells the story from beginning to end of how God created, how the world fell away from him, how he became involved in the history of the world in Israel and in his incarnation in Jesus to rescue the world through his death, resurrection, and coming in glory to reign as lord over all creation. And it unleashes the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in the assembled people, in ministry, in Word and Sacrament, and it connects God and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Brown v Board of Education Essay On the seventeenth day in May 1954 a decision was made which changed things in the United States dramatically. For millions of black Americans, news of the U.S. Supreme Court s landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education meant, at last, that they and their children no longer had to attend separate schools. Brown v. Board of Education was a Supreme Court ruling that changed the life of every American forever. In Topeka, Kansas, a black third grader named Linda Brown had to walk one mile through a railroad switchyard to get to her black elementary school, even though a white elementary school was only seven blocks away. Linda s father, Oliver Brown, tried to enroll her in the white elementary school, but the principal of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brown and the NAACP appealed to the Supreme Court on October 1, 1951. Their case was combined with other cases that challenged school segregation in South Carolina, Virginia, and Delaware. The Supreme Court first heard the cases on December 9, 1952, but failed to reach a decision. The judges had to decide whether or not the writers of the Fourteenth Amendment had desegregated schools in mind. The court ruling eventually came to be unanimous. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court asked this question in the decision read on May 17, 1954: Does segregation of children in public schools solely on the basis of race, even though the physical facilities and other tangible factors may be equal, deprive children of the minority group of equal educational opportunities? (The National Center for Public Research). They struck down the separate but equal doctrine of Plessy for public education saying that it has no place , ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, and required the desegregation of schools across America (The National Center For Public Research). On that Monday in May, the high court s ruling that outlawed school segregation in the United States generated urgent news flashes on the radio and frenzied black. One swift and unanimous decision by the top judges in the land was going to end segregation in public schools. Southern politicians reacted with such fury and fear that they immediately called the day Black Monday. South Carolina Gov. James Byrnes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking And Novel Risk... Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In The United States In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum C reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic has not been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United States in 1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease can also result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers, 4,791 former smokers, and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years 1988 and 1994. Three thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive proteins had little information. This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. In the analysis for fibrinogen, 2,000 people lacked the information for fibrinogen. Because the participants in the fibrinogen analysis had to be over 40 years of age, 9350 were left for this analysis. Between 1991 and 1994 (phase 2 of the study), homocysteine levels were measured. Close to 1,500 were missing homocysteine values, so 7,458 were examined. The data for the study was collected through home interviews and clinical examinations. Patients had their blood pressure measured six times total (three in the home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Analysis Of The Circumplex Model In On Golden Pond The Circumplex Model: Adaptability and Flexibility Throughout On Golden Pond, it is apparent that Chelsea, Norman, and Ethel are rigidly enmeshed. According to Olson s circumplex model, rigidly enmeshed families have authoritarian leadership, strict discipline, roles rarely change, there is too little change. Additionally, enmeshment in families is illustrated by very high closeness, very high loyalty, high dependency, and a lack of individuality (Sanders Bell, 2011). Although Chelsea is distant with her family in the number of visits it is an artificial distance of time and space. They are strongly emotionally entangled as demonstrated through the ability of the family to emotionally affect one and other. Slightly like the characters in On Golden Pond, the family in Stepmom appear to be chaotically enmeshed. The circumplex model claims families who are chaotic present with a lack of leadership, erratic discipline, dramatic role shifts, and too much change (Sanders Bell, 2011). Chaos is present in the structure of the two living environments of the children: one environment is structured and the other one is disorderly. This leads to confusion for the children because the system lacks consistency. Enmeshment is personified through the children s emotional fusion with their mother. When Jackie is upset with Isabel, the children are upset with Isabel. The children and the mother s emotions are intertwined. On the other hand, Rita slightly contrasts the two families above as she appears to be rigidly disengaged instead of enmeshed. Rita and Denny are not intimately close. This is illustrated as Rita responds to a question by saying, loyalty? I [have] you know, I [have] tried to explain it to my husband ... I think he [is] thick (Gilbert, 1983). Rita s family lacks the flexibility to change. People get married and have kids. There is no self exploration, enlightenment, and adaptability is absent. The Concrete Content and Abstract Process Norman characterized several content and process issues throughout On Golden Pond. The first part of the movie exposes Norman s fixation on his age and pending death. From his confrontation with the kids, while refueling his boat to his efforts about getting a job, ...
