Restorative Justice In Prison
Restorative Justice and Prison
Restorative justice practices in the prison setting focus on various factors, including the offending
behavior, victims, community service work, victim offender mediation, and the restorative justice
philosophy(Dhami et al, 2009). With these various contributing factors, mutually agreeable and best
possible solution can be achieved to repair the serious harm caused by the criminal behaviors through
the consistent communication within every individual members. In addition, these processes can
provide the valuable effects of reconciliation, victim healing, offender rehabilitation, and as well as
the reintegration of the offenders into the society(Dhami et al, 2009).

The main concentration of this level of workshop is to develop interpersonal conflict resolution skills
through a series of step by step processes and various exercises(Taplow, 1999) and most of the basic
workshop exercises are done in small groups and one on one interactions. The AVP basic workshop
processes focus on four aspects of interpersonal conflict resolution skills which is also known as the
ACCC(AVP Canada, 2007). These four components include the affirmation, communication,
cooperation, creative conflict resolution. Each components represent important aspect of the life
where the prisoners especially for the prisoners. As an example, the affirmation represents the idea of
rebuilding self esteem and trust(AVP Canada, 2007). If we consider our society today, our community
tends to isolate and exclude many of the prisoners due to the stereotypical views. As an example,
people generally have belief that the offenders are bad, unforgivable, dangerous, negative, deviant and
many other negative perspectives as well. As a result, many of the incarcerated prisoners lose their self
esteem and having a difficult time trusting others. In addition, these negative aspects could potentially
lead the prisoners toward more negatively where they can potentially fail to rehabilitate, and reoffend
after the release. With this regard, the basic workshop focus on specifically on developing basic

The Effects Of Wound Healing On Diabetic Patients
eous wound healing and why some processes may be altered in diabetic patients
The process by which tissue repair takes place is termed wound healing and is comprised of a
continuous sequence of inflammation and repair, in which epithelial, endothelial, inflammatory cells,
platelets and fibroblasts briefly come together outside their normal domains, interact to restore a
semblance of their usual discipline and having done so resume their normal function . ( The Cellular
Biology of Wound Healing 2016)
Wound healing has 3 distinct stages, an inflammatory response, a proliferation phase and a maturation
phase, however wound healing is not a linear process and a patient can move back and forth
throughout the stages.
After the occurrence of a wound the inflammatory process immediately begins and can last up to 3
days ( Wound Healing 2016), the initial injury causes the small vessels around the wound site to be
disturbed resulting in bleeding, the body s first response is a haemodynamic one in that it restricts
these vessels in order to prevent blood loss. There then comes a rapid release of preformed
inflammatory mediators from the cells surrounding the injury, the first thing this causes is the
aggregation of platelets, these platelets adhere to extracellular surface structures which are exposed,
such as collagen and basement membranes, this in turn causes serotonin from platelet stores to be
stimulated. (Kirk, Phillips and Murray 2001)

Essay On President Jackson Domestic Affairs
President Jackson s Domestic affairs during his first term were extremely impactful to the United
States. During his campaign, he was extremely vague about his plans for reform. Jackson s first order
of business was to clear out the government offices and assign them to supports of himself and the
members of the Democratic party. This is known as the Spoils System. After Jackson charged the
Adams Bureaucracy with fraud, he decided that keeping the officials would be foolish. He claimed
that he was purging corruption and was offering jobs to citizens through a rotation of office. that, and
in choosing replacements he relied exclusively on recommendations from his own people. Creating

On this treacherous journey, nearly four thousand of them died from hunger, exhaustion, exposure,
and/or disease. Voters believe that actions like this were unforgivable, with the world today it would
not have been allowed or supported as it was in 1833. It was not as if Jackson hated Indians, he was
friendly with many of them. Jackson even took in an Indian orphan to live in his house with him for
companionship for his adopted son. He did believe that whites were of higher standing though, and for
that, he believed that for the Indians own survival, they needed to get out of the whites way. In an
excerpt from Jackson s letter to the Cherokees he says I have no motive, my friends, to deceive you. I
am sincerely desirous to promote your welfare. Listen to me, therefore, while I tell you that you
cannot remain where you now are. Circumstances that cannot be controlled, and which are beyond the
reach of human laws, render it impossible that you can flourish in the midst of a civilized community.

The Decision For El Salvador s Supreme Court
Throughout the semester, students have learned of the importance of the interplay amongst different
levels of actors in international relations politics. These various institutions, governments, groups, and
individuals are especially important when considering the issue of human rights. My chosen article, co
written by Elisabeth Malkin and Gene Palumbo, describes the landmark decision for El Salvador s
Supreme Court to overturn an amnesty law that protected perpetrators of human rights violations. The
ruling of the Supreme Court is based on the grounds that the amnesty is unconstitutional due to
violating international human rights laws (Malkin, Palumba). This event is particularly important
because previous governments ignored these violations that stemmed from civil unrest. The amnesty
law was established in 1992 after a civil war of more than 12 years and effectively covers all crimes
committed by both sides during the war (Dolliver, Kanavel, Robeck). However, due to its contestable
legality both domestically and internationally, El Salvador s Supreme Court decided to rule on the
amnesty s law constitutionality for the final time. This article is relevant in the context of increasing
global concern over human rights. More recent debates in international relations discuss the
importance of the individual over that of states and sovereignty, especially in a society in which
national and global boundaries are being transcended and constantly undermined. Multiple levels

Essay on Deception
Deception According to Hyman (1989) deception implies that an agent acts or speaks so as to induce a
false belief in a target or victim. Deception can occur in everyday life. Whether it is telling someone
they look nice or not telling them that they look fat. This is an important process for forming
relationships and general social interaction. However, although this is useful for social interaction, it is
a serious problem in other areas. Deception can be a problem when people actively deceive in job
applications, giving evidence and in court. Being able to detect whether a person is lying or ... Show

Police officers). A recent study by Mann, Vrij and Bull (2004) showed that when shown videotapes of
real life lies and truths and found that the officers had an accuracy of 65%. This was found to be better
than lab studies using, normal (non trained) participants. Additionally, accuracy was negatively
correlated with popular stereotypical cues such as gaze aversion and fidgeting. However, although this
suggests that human lie detection is fairly accurate, earlier research has found the opposite. According
to Wallace (1999), psychological research on deception shows that most of us are poor judges of
truthfulness. One may assume that this only applies to only ordinary people and not professionals.
However further research shows that this applies to professionals such as police and custom
inspectors, whose jobs are supposed to include some expertise at lie detection (Wallace, 1999). An
early study by Kraut and Poe (1980) that custom inspectors showed accuracy scores rarely exceed
65% where 50% is the chance level. A later study by Kohnken (1987) showed that police officers
performed no better than chance when judging the truthfulness of witness statements (on video).
Furthermore, it was found that the more confident the officer was of their judgement, the more likely
they were wrong. This

Interco Case Study Essay
Interco Case Study
Interco s financial performance was moderately successful for the 1988 fiscal year. Interco s current
ratio (3.6 to 1) and debt to capitalization rate (19.3%) indicate that the company is financially flexible.
Furthermore, both overall sales and net income increased from the previous year (1987) due largely to
the strong performance of Interco s furniture and footwear divisions. Sales in 1988 increased by
14.7% in the furniture division and 34.2% in the footwear division. Despite the promising nature of
these two divisions, Interco still had to contend with the nagging issue of the underperforming apparel
and general retail groups. Due to a number of factors including declining consumer spending and

Historical data on the indexes of closing prices (see Exhibit 14) attest that the current market trend is
very different to the market trends for some of the benchmarks used (i.e. West Point Pepperall/Cluett,
Peabody). In addition, it is difficult to determine the true nature and equatability between the proposed
benchmarks and Interco for each company can differ in its cash flow and revenue growth, its riskiness,
and its future expansion opportunities. In consequence finding comparable ratios becomes
increasingly problematic and challenging. Thus, the issues that are specific to Interco limit the strength
and validity of the valuation analysis. One must also note that comparable transaction analyses do not
account for premiums or synergies gained in a transaction. There are a variety of possible questions in
regards to Wasserstein, Perella and Co. s discounted cash flow analysis of Interco. The financial
analysts made some assumptions that could be questioned as ill founded. An increase in Working
Investment for the Apparel and Retail divisions was predicted but the Strategic Positioning Goals of
Interco dictated that underperforming assets were to be divested. Based on the 1988 Income Statement
of Interco Apparel and Retail divisions, could easily be judged as underperforming assets. Based on

Influence Of English In The Japanese Language
2. English in the Japanese language
2.1. Adaption and Integration: Influence of English on Japanese Language Use
It has been many years since English was first introduced to Japanese society. In the progress of the
19th, 20th and 21st century, the English language was a continuous but varying influence on the
Japanese language and its culture. The result of this centuries long process is a Japanese language that
contains more than its fair share of English loanwords.
Although most Japanese people, even those of older age, are familiar with a lot of English loanwords,
this does not necessarily mean they are familiar with English. In my personal experience, I witnessed

These words, which are taken from English and used functionally in Japanese conversation primarily
by native speakers, often have an already existing, possible common Japanese equivalent. Therefore,
these loanwords could be considered redundant and quite double to an outsider. However, in certain
situations, the English word is greatly preferred, whereas the Japanese word would stand out strangely,
for reasons which will be thoroughly discussed in this section. These English loanwords in Japanese
language have been dubbed double loanwords , for the sake of creating an understandable and clear
term, specifically for this paper.
Notably, there are two domains where these double loanwords appear in Japanese speech; fashion and
food. These domains are not coincidental, as both have been heavily influenced by foreign culture.
Japanese fashion and Japanese Western style cuisine, or youshoku æŽ‹éŁŸ, are inspired largely by their
French, English and American equivalents. Although these Japanese styles do originate in Western
influence, they have been made their own by the Japanese fashion industry and the Japanese

Essay on Effects of the Great Depression
The Effects of the Great Depression The Great Depression was a horrible event that took place almost
100 years ago. It was a time in our society when people had no money and no food. Everyone was
losing their jobs because the companies couldn t afford to pay them and stay in business at the same
time. After the Stock Market crashed and the economy went downhill, a lot of changes were made
within the government to make sure that nothing like this would ever happen again. This period in

As their lives were filled with sadness and no hope, they would soon learn that all of that was about to
change for them. As the 1932 Presidential elections were coming up, the citizens had to choose the
right person to lead them out of the Great Depression. In November of 1932, the United States held a
Presidential Election that was crucial to America. The voting was a one sided outcome, as Franklin D.
Roosevelt won the election by a landslide over his opponent Herbert Hoover. In his acceptance speech
in 1932 when he was a Democratic Party nominee for running president, he made a promise to the
citizens of America that there would be a new deal for the American people. He was determined to
keep his promise to the citizens of America, that a new deal was coming. He would later keep that
promise and would eventually change the economy for the better. Roosevelt s New Deal Programs
were based on helping the economic problems in several different ways. The programs that he
designed were to help; federal assistance for people who had lost their jobs, houses, savings, and
livelihoods , job creation for the unemployed through massive public works projects , agricultural
assistance for troubled farmers , manufacturing assistance for troubled industries , stricter banking
regulations to prevent bank failures , creation of the FDIC to protect bank customer s deposits

Essay about The Threat of Anne Hutchinson
The Threat of Anne Hutchinson
In Puritan led Massachusetts Bay Colony during the days of Anne Hutchinson was an intriguing place
to have lived. It was designed ideally as a holy mission in the New World called the city upon a hill, a
mission to provide a prime example of how protestant lives should have subsisted of. A key ingredient
to the success of the Puritan community was the cohesion of the community as a whole, which was
created by a high level of conformity in the colony. Puritan leaders provided leadership for all facets
of life; socially, economically, religiously, and even politically. A certain hierarchy was very apparent
in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, in which ministers always seemed to have gotten their way. ... Show

In the trial against Anne Hutchinson, she was charged, in a vague manner, to be a danger to the colony
because of the spreading of her Antinomian opinions at her meetings. Throughout the entire trial Anne
was slowly being backed into a corner in which ideally she would have then broken down and
admitted to doing all the wrongs in which Governor Winthrop believed she was guilty of, but she
never really did. The evidence against her was so weak in nature, that it seemed that Winthrop, along
with all the other elders and deputies, really needed a confession to completely justify her banishment.
Though unsuccessful in their efforts, even when it was brought up by the Deputy Governor that Anne
went to a meeting of ministers and told them all that they preached the covenant of works to their very
faces, Anne stayed with the Fifth Amendment technique and denied nothing, while admitting nothing.
Where I believe she might have messed up is when she attested to the probability of her saying this of
the ministers in private. By saying that, she more than admitted to being of the same mindset of the
ostracized Antinomians. This in turn gave the hungry judges/jury enough evidence for the banishment.
It is my understanding that Anne s type of mischief was not too uncommon for that time period in
Massachusetts. Meetings were held all over between Puritans discussing religious topics such as
Biblical translations and weekly sermons

What Is The Theme Of Ambition In King Lear
How Far Will One Go for Their Personal Desire? Many people are driven by their desires, and rise
over them with ambition. Ambition blinds the characters from their morals and pushes them to their
break thrilling boundaries to reach their goals. The characters ambition abolished through any
obstacles in the path of their objective. In Shakespeare s tragic play, King Lear, ambition pushes the
characters toward their desires, without consideration towards the impact on others and the negative
consequences. The ambition triggers the evil thoughts in the minds of the characters to reach their
goals causing them to break bonds, manipulates and deceive, and make their victims feel regretful.
Ultimately, the images of the weather and clothing reveal how these blinded characters rise over their
base desires using evil acts.
To begin, the overwhelming ambition of the characters causes disruption within their family
relationship. The care for their loved ones is diminished, as they prioritize their goals over family. The
characters set everything aside other than their goals, making everything else including family bond
irrelevant and insignificant. This is evident in the characteristics of Edmund when he turns against his
own father, exposing his secretive bond with Lear. Gloucester is supposed to stand by the Duke of
Burgundy s side but instead went to help Lear. Edmund spilled his father s secret saying, If I find him

think this happened in this particular film in order to successfully finish the plot. The Devil s

Rhonda Williams Black Power
Civil rights or black power, which of the two approaches was the dominant one in the twentieth
century African American struggle for racial and social equality? For Rhonda Williams the answer is,
without a doubt, the latter one. In her book Concrete Demands, she argues that black power and not
civil rights strategies were the dominant force in twentieth century African American activism. That
said, it is important to note that Williams differentiates between black power and Black Power. While
the latter one stands for a specific historical period of ideologically informed activism that left an
indelible mark on African American politics and culture, the first one, black power with small letters
has been central to African American political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, she suggests that the term black power emerged out of a broader attempt of African
American empowerment and consequently characterizes a broad and timeless objective. Different
from civil rights activism, which was based on a broad interracial coalition, the politics of black
empowerment, while not generally opposed to coalitions with Whites, promoted political and social
activism independent from Whites. Black Power paid more attention to the allocation of power and
aims to end African Americans dependence on Whites changing goodwill. Black Power with big B
and big P represents the specific historical period during which African American activists developed
and practiced oppositional ideologies and politics. Their activism was unapologetically Black,
informed by ideas of Black consciousness and pride that emphasized self determination and racial
autonomy. The following is a summary of the structure and the context of the book: Concrete
Demands is divided into two main sections. The first one illustrates the ideological roots and practical
routes that informed the Black Power movement of the 1960s. The book s first two chapters narrate
the historical context of the different forms and ideas of black empowerment starting in 1917. In
discussing the various progenitors of the Black Power activists, Williams portrays the multifaceted
ideological and practical traditions, as well as the international foundations of early black power
activism. The third chapter concentrates on the years 1963 66, a pivotal period in the African
American liberation struggle during which Whites continuing resistance to Blacks long overdue
participation in the political realm led many activists to take alternative routes to achieve lasting Black
empowerment. The second part of the book is devoted to the specific historical period the Black
Power era. Chapter four

Effective Strength And Conditioning Program For An Injured...
Despite an effective strength and conditioning program that helps prevent injuries, young athletes will
still get hurt. When injuries do occur, a coach must know the proper treatment steps because he or she
has a legal duty to provide immediate emergency care for an injured athlete. In this regard, the coach
must administer the first aid or he or she must make sure a medical provider such as an athletic trainer
provides the proper treatment. Furthermore, a coach must understand the subsequent rehabilitation
involved that will successfully return the injured athlete to full participation. Because ankle sprains are
the most common basketball injury, this chapter will discuss the treatment plan considerations.
The initial objective with an ankle sprain is to control swelling that includes protection, rest, ice,
compression, and evaluation (P.R.I.C.E) treatment. The P.R.I.C.E treatment plan involves 1) protecting
the ankle with braces, wraps, or crutches, 2) resting the ankle by not doing activities that cause pain,
3) icing the ankle for 20 minutes and off for 60 minutes throughout the first 48 hours after the injury,
compressing the ankle with a wrap, 4) elevating the ankle at or above the heart.
After the initial treatment, there are three primary modalities available to treat an ankle injury: surgery,
conservative treat with cast immobilization, and functional treatment. Studies have found functional
treatment as the best modality to treat Grade 1 and 2 ankle injuries

My Favorite Hobby Is Micro Brewing Beer Essay
How Hard Cider Got So Tasty
I was just a young lad of 22 when I drank my first sips. Oh, My Gosh, it was so good; I ended up so
bombed that I spent the night next to a porcelain God. I swore I would never drink that stuff ever
again. Who would have known that many years later that boozy concoction called Hard Cider would
become the new and trendy drink? It is without a doubt, the Nectar of the Gods. My favorite hobby is
micro brewing beer. I have been producing craft beer for five years now. Half of my two car garage is
in reality, a kitchen with dozens of pots, pan, tanks, fermentation chambers and burners, all sorts of
wicked machinery staged about the place to produce fermented beverages. I recently read in some
beer journals that cider is making a comeback in the craft brewing market. The idea of producing this
sweet drink motivated me to try my own recipe. After all, how could I go wrong since I had the
experience brewing beer? So I decided, without much experience, to give it a shot. I rounded up the
ingredients; three kinds of apple juice, lots of sugar, and some Champagne Yeast. I heated the juice
into a stockpot to kill any germs or other nasties that may be in it. After it cooled. I added a ton of
brown sugar and poured into the yeast. I thought, what could go wrong; this stuff looks and smells
amazing. I put the finished grist into a glass jar and capped it with an airlock plug to keep the bacteria
out. After a couple of days, the juice seemed to be

After the reader makes an effort and takes his or her time to fully comprehend the poem entirely, it
becomes clearer that correlatively related ideas are expressed throughout the poem. The correlations
between several metaphors extend to intensify ideas about the father. As the speakers father is
compared to being an angel he does not literally mean that his father was an angel with wings or an
angel from biblical times because that would be improbable for the reader to assume. What the
speaker seems to suggest through his metaphor is that his father was his savior and helper. This idea is
intensified throughout the poem because the father is being compared to a lamb which is symbolic for
Christ, a globally symbolic healer and helper; the speaker also states his father was a getaway driver
which suggests that his father guided him away from danger. Because the speaker also compares his
father to a law abiding, favorable, person such as a cowboy or a Texas Ranger it seems as if he is
trying to guide the reader s interpretation of a getaway driver away from a an illegal activity such as
robing a bank. In addition to comparing his father to helpers and getaway drivers, the speaker also
states his father drove the boys away. This famous metaphor describing the driving of the boys away is
known to be symbolic of a father directing

Birth Order In Canada
Literature Review
Birth order refers to the order in which children are born into their families. Common examples of this
include the first born, second born, youngest and the only child. Birth order is considered to have
profound lasting effects on the psychological and behavioural development of children. For this
reason, it is essential to study birth order and its impacts on children within families in Canada
because it reveals more about the individual in society. A child s birth order is incredibly influential in
regards to their upbringing, shaping their personality and how they grow up to be as individuals. First
born children generally have a great amount of pressure and responsibility placed on them. The
youngest children of families ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Younger children are used to getting what they want as children and grow up knowing the ability to
charm and manipulate others to their advantage. They also generally less uptight and more carefree
since the family rules are usually loosened by the time of their arrival. Parents are already confident in
their role as caregiver, and therefore are more lenient (Gross, 2014). They excuse behaviour that was
deemed unacceptable for the older children since the parents have already dealt with such situations in
the past and are not as stern with younger children. However, younger children may feel neglected by
their older siblings and may feel inadequate in comparison to the older siblings achievements.
Youngest children can also be bullied by older siblings. Furthermore, since parents are less restrictive
over younger children, they may be misguided and more reckless than their older siblings who may
have had to play it safe. These children can then grow up to be irresponsible and lack direction and the
ability to prioritize in their lives. This can lead to mental confusion, emotional instability and
depressive symptoms. It may result in a dependence on harmful addictive substances to turn to as an
outlet. Likewise, younger siblings are also more prone to addiction, according to Medical Daily, and
take up smoking and drinking more frequently than older siblings

Harry Potter Music Analysis
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, John Williams employs diegetic music by having the
characters in the film sing a song that combines with the background music. The song Double Trouble
is sung by the school choir while the film score for the movie that reflects mysteriousness and eeriness
plays. The mood in the air is almost a sense of fear and paranoia as the students in school don t feel
safe after news broke of a prison breakout. The music supports that sense of fear as the lyrics in the
film along with the rest of the music alludes to the fact that trouble is near.
2b. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, John Williams creates the mood of non diegetic music
which is when the source of the sound is not visible on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2d. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, John Williams creates the mood of leitmotif by
consistently playing the same music themes based on the scene. Leitmotif is defined by the theme in
the music that is associated with certain scenes, moods, or people. For an example, whenever the
movie tries to create a feeling of sadness felt by Harry s loneliness after having lost his parents, there
is sad music playing in the background that plays softly. By consistently having this music played
whenever Harry is feeling down, we begin to associate the connection between the two. Another
specific scene where the same sad theme is played in the background, is when Harry looks into the
mirror where he sees his parents. John Williams does this for all sorts of moods whether it be
happiness, sadness, or excitement as well as having music for specific characters and settings.
2e. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, John Williams creates the mood of foreshadowing in
the scenes by having the music played leading up to a major event. For an example during the scene
where the characters are chased by a troll monster, there is frightening music being played. We have
not yet actually seen the monster, but rather can only hear his footsteps at this point. Having the music
in the background however, foreshadows the eventual doom that the characters will face.

Does The Amount Of Salt Affect The Mass Of Ice Cream
Title: Does the amount of salt used in ice cream formation affect the mass of ice cream produced?
Purpose
To discover whether varied amounts of salt used in ice cream formation affect the mass of the final
product.
Background Information In order for water or milk to freeze, the temperature needs to be at or below
0ÂșC. In order to lower the freezing point of solution, different solutes are dissolved in solvents. When
a solute is combined with a solvent, such as dissolving sugar (solute) into water (solvent), a solution is
formed. The process of decreasing a freezing point of a liquid by dissolving a solute in a solution is
referred to as freezing point depression. The freezing point is a colligative property, which means that
the freezing point depends on the number of solute particles dissolved in a solution. For example,
CaCl2, which has three particles, would lower the freezing point of a solution more than NaCl would,
which only has two particles (Helmenstine).
Freezing point depression is utilized in the environment as well, such as placing salt onto roads in
winter during which the temperature is around or right below 0ÂșC to prevent any precipitation that
falls from freezing onto the road. When ice is exposed to salt (NaCl), hydrogen bonds in the ice
require more energy to join together. The energy used by the hydrogen bonds is in the form of heat
energy, decreasing the temperature of the small amount of melted water surrounding the ice
(Litherland).

The Historical Enlightenment, By John Locke, Voltaire And...
The historical Enlightenment saw the emergence of a zeitgeist of thinking that used science and reason
to understand the world. Philosophes such as RenĂš Decarte, John Locke, Voltaire and Denis Diderot
began questioning the core foundations of feudalism as everything around them became questionable.
The intention of the historical Enlightenment was to encourage people to begin thinking for
themselves and to seek knowledge, yet in order to acquire the ability for knowing, thinking and
reasoning, education was required. Diderot, who authorised himself as a propagandist for a rational
and secular view of the world, asserted that education in the sciences and humanities was the key to
individuals living good lives within well structured societies. ... Show more content on

Furthermore conservatives believe that changes are to be organic, rather than revolutionary, as any
attempt to modify the complex structures that form society runs the risk of a dramatic unfolding of
unintended consequences. These beliefs can be linked in explaining the unforeseen repercussions of
regarding science and rationality as omnipotent. Conservatives argue that through the subjection to a
utopian ideal of a rational society, humanity has in fact been enslaved rather than liberated. The
endeavor to replace arbitrary monarchial power by rule of reason is limited, as it has metamorphosed
from an instrument against oppression to a mechanism for oppression. The promise of scientific
rationality had consequently become destructive and the individual freedom that philosophes had been
seeking succumbed to enslavement of the economic powers that

As the compass progresses along the assembly line, plastic components are snapped together. Some
plastic components move through printers, which stamp them with markings such as the company
logo, or with scale markings for use with maps. This could cause the throughput to slow down if
defected parts are discovered. The Firebird Manufacturing facility is spread over 130,000 square feet
and has a capacity for producing over six million compasses each year. Firebird Compass matches
production capability to customer orders. The continuous analysis done weekly on the resources in the
plant is compared to meet the demand of the product so our obligations are fulfilled. Firebird employs
short term fixes to any imperfections in balance by hiring extra workers during a heavy production
cycle, plan a third shift for continuous operations, approve overtime at the worker level and sub
contract if necessary.
Production planning at Firebird is a key essential task with complimenting sub tasks requiring the
managers input for a successful operation. At Firebird modulating capacity is accomplished by
additional overtime and increasing the part time employees hired for the additional production needed.
Firebird has the capacity to meet the demands of the compasses that are ordered at frequent peaks
during the year. Firebird can achieve this demand with inventory buffers in the supply chain. By

In 1876 the good ship Porpoise sailed into Trinity Bay carrying customs officers tasked with opening a
port and collecting duties from visiting craft. The government named the new settlement for the then
Governor of Queensland, Sir William Wellington Cairns.
Born in Ireland in 1828, as a younger son Cairns could not expect an inheritance, so using family
connections he joined the British Civil Service, and after training, left England for work in warmer
climes, possibly due to health issues which persisted throughout his life. In December 1852 he joined
the Ceylonese (now Sri Lankan) civil service and rose to the position of postmaster general in 1864,
before promotion to Lieutenant Governor of Malacca in 1867, of St Christopher in 1869, and

Society is Responsible for the Death of Romeo and Juliet...
Imagine yourself, dear reader, transported to Shakespearian Verona, a bustling, peaceful city (aside
from the occasional death or two), with its obligatory social classes going about agreeably (aside from
the occasional brawl or two), and all people happy and successful (aside from the occasional poor
wretch or two). The Verona in which Shakespeare s tragedy Romeo and Juliet takes place in is made
sinister by the deadly consequences than ensue from its strict, unbending society. Romeo and Juliet
paints a tale about two young lovers, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, whose attempts to be
together are cruelly thwarted by society. Society s fixation on honor and disgrace, poverty creating
laws, and austere social roles all have crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At any infraction of honor, men are pushed to duel to the death, or face the dreaded charge of
cowardliness. Indeed, Tybalt, bound by honor to his family, is ready to slay Romeo even at Romeo s
tiny misdemeanor of attending the Capulet party: What, dares the slave / Come hither covered with an
antic face / To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? / Now, by the stock and honor of my kin / To strike
him dead I hold it not a sin. (1. 5. 63 67) Soon after this scene, Tybalt duels with Mercutio in place of
Romeo, and Mercutio falls dead. Obligated to avenge his friend s death, Romeo fights with Tybalt,
and strikes him dead. This results in Romeo s banishment, which, of course, leads to the series of
hasty plans that end in his and Juliet s deaths. Another reason that society is responsible for Romeo
and Juliet s deaths lies in its unjust, poverty creating laws. When Romeo believes Juliet dead (she is
actually asleep), he kills himself with poison, which in turn leads to Juliet s death when she sees him
dead. However, In Mantua, the Italian city to which Romeo is banished, sale of poison is illegal. So,
dear reader, do tell where he could possibly buy poison in a city whose laws prevent potion makers
from making money. Romeo had the same answer, recalling a desperately poor apothecary about
whom he told himself: An if a man did need a poison now / Whose sale is present death in Mantua /

The Rise Of The Roman And Ottoman Empires
With every empire that ever existed, there were highs and lows that contributed to their rise as well as
their fall in power each one somehow contributing to the rise of the next empire. Three great empires
that are perfect examples of this are the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires. Regarding the rise
and fall of these empires, there were differences that set them apart, however, there are several
similarities that merit a thorough examination, with the Roman Empire having the greatest influence
on society today. Factors that contributed to the rise of the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires
involve the following: some sort of unification whether it be political or geographical; a strong army;
and expansion. During Augustus Caesar s rule of the Roman Empire, he brought political stability to
his people by defeating Rome s enemies, and preserving aristocracy, the Senate, the elected Roman
magistracy, and Roman citizenship (Wallech et al., 2013). In the Mongolian Empire, Temujin, known
later as Genghis Khan, also defeated all his rivals and became the leader of Mongolian tribes (May,
2008). Under his rule, the tribes of Mongolia were unified into a single supra tribe also known as the
All Mongol State (May, 2008). The Ottoman Empire attracted and united those who roamed across the
Middle East searching for means to gain their livelihoods and seeking to fulfill their religious desire to
expand the territory of Islam (Yapp Shaw, 2017). All three empires also

A Discussion Of Constitutional Law And Its Relationship...
A Discussion of Constitutional Law and Its Relationship with Education Education is not explicitly
mentioned in the United States Constitution, but instead, education is one of the powers reserved to
the states. Power not specifically given to the federal government is reserved for the states through the
Tenth Amendment of the Unites States Constitution. Therefore, states have plenary, or absolute, power
in the area of education. While states may hold this reserved power, with regard to education the
federal government has found power through mandates that must be met in order for states to receive
federal funding for education. Texas has one of the longest Constitutions in the nation and reads

Constitution). While not specifically mentioning education, this amendment guarantees that any child
in Texas has the right to free education given to any other child regardless of nationality. The First
Amendment of the U.S. Constitution has been examined extensively with regards to education. Most
notably the clause in the First Amendment, which guarantees the freedom of speech , has been
scrutinized through the judicial system. While students and educators do not shed their constitutional
rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate (Tinker v. Des Moines), in the
educational setting an individual s rights cannot interfere with the schools educational mission. The
U.S. Constitution separates powers between the executive, legislative and judicial branches.
Federalism guarantees that power is shared between national and state governments. The judicial
branch often acts as a referee between the federal and state governments when deciding on issues that
seem to cross jurisdictions. Texas Constitution While the U.S. Constitutions assigns power of
education to states, Texas Constitution assumes that power and prescribes the structure and operation
of Texas public schools. Article VII in the Texas Constitution establishes public schools, asylums and

Little Miss Sunshine Belonging Analysis
In an environment plagued by incessant consumerism and perpetual egocentrism, one can easily begin
to feel disconnected from other members of society. It is becoming exceedingly difficult to have truly
meaningful relationships with anyone by cause of the cold, systematic, and covetous fashion in which
our world is governed. Due to the lack of feeling a common unity, many families become disjointed
and dysfunctional. There is, however, a way in which people can once again sense profound
interconnectedness. Through distinct and intimate experiences with others, an individual s sense of
societal separation is replaced with an intense perception of harmony. A film that perfectly
encapsulates this phenomenon is the Academy Award winning comedy, Little Miss Sunshine
(Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris, 2006). The film tells the story of an idiosyncratic family which

Witch Of Edmonton
The Witch of Edmonton, written in 1621 by John Ford, Thomas Dekker and William Rowley, depicts
an old and lonely woman, Elizabeth Sawyer, whose false reputation as a witch drives her to utilize the
devil s power and take her revenge on those who made her do so. The story is based on the real
historical figure of Elizabeth Sawyer, a woman who was put to death for witchcraft in 1621. The case
of Sawyer, as portrayed in both the play and her true interrogation, proves, in multiple ways, how the
underlying cause of witchcraft is the selfish desire for power. Not only does Elizabeth Sawyer herself
emit this desire for power through her prideful need for revenge, but the villagers of Edmonton also

This is not to say that villagers simply created the myth of witchcraft on the spot as a means of
obtaining a scapegoat, but, rather, that they latched onto rumours, morphed from old folklore and
spread about the village, of witches that would cause misfortune to their neighbours. This is exactly
the kind of behaviour we see in the play, as the villagers of Edmonton use the accusation of witchcraft
in order to wield power, not only over Sawyer herself, but over the events in their village which they
wish to prevent. The villagers appear to have known that Sawyer is a witch for some time, but it is not
until a villager blames her for their misfortunes, that others speak out and claim that she has wronged
them, too. For example, towards the end of the play, Old Banks claims that his horse has become
suddenly ill, and says and this, I ll take my death upon t, is long of this jadish witch Mother Sawyer. A

  • 2. Restorative Justice In Prison Restorative Justice and Prison Restorative justice practices in the prison setting focus on various factors, including the offending behavior, victims, community service work, victim offender mediation, and the restorative justice philosophy(Dhami et al, 2009). With these various contributing factors, mutually agreeable and best possible solution can be achieved to repair the serious harm caused by the criminal behaviors through the consistent communication within every individual members. In addition, these processes can provide the valuable effects of reconciliation, victim healing, offender rehabilitation, and as well as the reintegration of the offenders into the society(Dhami et al, 2009). The main concentration of this level of workshop is to develop interpersonal conflict resolution skills through a series of step by step processes and various exercises(Taplow, 1999) and most of the basic workshop exercises are done in small groups and one on one interactions. The AVP basic workshop processes focus on four aspects of interpersonal conflict resolution skills which is also known as the ACCC(AVP Canada, 2007). These four components include the affirmation, communication, cooperation, creative conflict resolution. Each components represent important aspect of the life where the prisoners especially for the prisoners. As an example, the affirmation represents the idea of rebuilding self esteem and trust(AVP Canada, 2007). If we consider our society today, our community tends to isolate and exclude many of the prisoners due to the stereotypical views. As an example, people generally have belief that the offenders are bad, unforgivable, dangerous, negative, deviant and many other negative perspectives as well. As a result, many of the incarcerated prisoners lose their self esteem and having a difficult time trusting others. In addition, these negative aspects could potentially lead the prisoners toward more negatively where they can potentially fail to rehabilitate, and reoffend after the release. • 3. The Effects Of Wound Healing On Diabetic Patients eous wound healing and why some processes may be altered in diabetic patients The process by which tissue repair takes place is termed wound healing and is comprised of a continuous sequence of inflammation and repair, in which epithelial, endothelial, inflammatory cells, platelets and fibroblasts briefly come together outside their normal domains, interact to restore a semblance of their usual discipline and having done so resume their normal function . ( The Cellular Biology of Wound Healing 2016) Wound healing has 3 distinct stages, an inflammatory response, a proliferation phase and a maturation phase, however wound healing is not a linear process and a patient can move back and forth throughout the stages. After the occurrence of a wound the inflammatory process immediately begins and can last up to 3 days ( Wound Healing 2016), the initial injury causes the small vessels around the wound site to be disturbed resulting in bleeding, the body s first response is a haemodynamic one in that it restricts these vessels in order to prevent blood loss. There then comes a rapid release of preformed inflammatory mediators from the cells surrounding the injury, the first thing this causes is the aggregation of platelets, these platelets adhere to extracellular surface structures which are exposed, such as collagen and basement membranes, this in turn causes serotonin from platelet stores to be stimulated. • 4. Essay On President Jackson Domestic Affairs President Jackson s Domestic affairs during his first term were extremely impactful to the United States. During his campaign, he was extremely vague about his plans for reform. Jackson s first order of business was to clear out the government offices and assign them to supports of himself and the members of the Democratic party. This is known as the Spoils System. After Jackson charged the Adams Bureaucracy with fraud, he decided that keeping the officials would be foolish. He claimed that he was purging corruption and was offering jobs to citizens through a rotation of office. that, and in choosing replacements he relied exclusively on recommendations from his own people. Creating the spoils system of partisan manipulation of the patronage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On this treacherous journey, nearly four thousand of them died from hunger, exhaustion, exposure, and/or disease. Voters believe that actions like this were unforgivable, with the world today it would not have been allowed or supported as it was in 1833. It was not as if Jackson hated Indians, he was friendly with many of them. Jackson even took in an Indian orphan to live in his house with him for companionship for his adopted son. He did believe that whites were of higher standing though, and for that, he believed that for the Indians own survival, they needed to get out of the whites way. In an excerpt from Jackson s letter to the Cherokees he says I have no motive, my friends, to deceive you. I am sincerely desirous to promote your welfare. Listen to me, therefore, while I tell you that you cannot remain where you now are. Circumstances that cannot be controlled, and which are beyond the reach of human laws, render it impossible that you can flourish in the midst of a civilized community. You have but one remedy within your reach. And that is, to remove to the West and join your countrymen, who are already established ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Decision For El Salvador s Supreme Court Throughout the semester, students have learned of the importance of the interplay amongst different levels of actors in international relations politics. These various institutions, governments, groups, and individuals are especially important when considering the issue of human rights. My chosen article, co written by Elisabeth Malkin and Gene Palumbo, describes the landmark decision for El Salvador s Supreme Court to overturn an amnesty law that protected perpetrators of human rights violations. The ruling of the Supreme Court is based on the grounds that the amnesty is unconstitutional due to violating international human rights laws (Malkin, Palumba). This event is particularly important because previous governments ignored these violations that stemmed from civil unrest. The amnesty law was established in 1992 after a civil war of more than 12 years and effectively covers all crimes committed by both sides during the war (Dolliver, Kanavel, Robeck). However, due to its contestable legality both domestically and internationally, El Salvador s Supreme Court decided to rule on the amnesty s law constitutionality for the final time. This article is relevant in the context of increasing global concern over human rights. More recent debates in international relations discuss the importance of the individual over that of states and sovereignty, especially in a society in which national and global boundaries are being transcended and constantly undermined. • 6. Essay on Deception Deception According to Hyman (1989) deception implies that an agent acts or speaks so as to induce a false belief in a target or victim. Deception can occur in everyday life. Whether it is telling someone they look nice or not telling them that they look fat. This is an important process for forming relationships and general social interaction. However, although this is useful for social interaction, it is a serious problem in other areas. Deception can be a problem when people actively deceive in job applications, giving evidence and in court. Being able to detect whether a person is lying or ... A recent study by Mann, Vrij and Bull (2004) showed that when shown videotapes of real life lies and truths and found that the officers had an accuracy of 65%. This was found to be better than lab studies using, normal (non trained) participants. Additionally, accuracy was negatively correlated with popular stereotypical cues such as gaze aversion and fidgeting. However, although this suggests that human lie detection is fairly accurate, earlier research has found the opposite. According to Wallace (1999), psychological research on deception shows that most of us are poor judges of truthfulness. One may assume that this only applies to only ordinary people and not professionals. However further research shows that this applies to professionals such as police and custom inspectors, whose jobs are supposed to include some expertise at lie detection (Wallace, 1999). An early study by Kraut and Poe (1980) that custom inspectors showed accuracy scores rarely exceed 65% where 50% is the chance level. A later study by Kohnken (1987) showed that police officers performed no better than chance when judging the truthfulness of witness statements (on video). Furthermore, it was found that the more confident the officer was of their judgement, the more likely they were wrong. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Interco Case Study Essay Interco Case Study Interco s financial performance was moderately successful for the 1988 fiscal year. Interco s current ratio (3.6 to 1) and debt to capitalization rate (19.3%) indicate that the company is financially flexible. Furthermore, both overall sales and net income increased from the previous year (1987) due largely to the strong performance of Interco s furniture and footwear divisions. Sales in 1988 increased by 14.7% in the furniture division and 34.2% in the footwear division. Despite the promising nature of these two divisions, Interco still had to contend with the nagging issue of the underperforming apparel and general retail groups. Due to a number of factors including declining consumer spending and aggressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historical data on the indexes of closing prices (see Exhibit 14) attest that the current market trend is very different to the market trends for some of the benchmarks used (i.e. West Point Pepperall/Cluett, Peabody). In addition, it is difficult to determine the true nature and equatability between the proposed benchmarks and Interco for each company can differ in its cash flow and revenue growth, its riskiness, and its future expansion opportunities. In consequence finding comparable ratios becomes increasingly problematic and challenging. Thus, the issues that are specific to Interco limit the strength and validity of the valuation analysis. One must also note that comparable transaction analyses do not account for premiums or synergies gained in a transaction. There are a variety of possible questions in regards to Wasserstein, Perella and Co. s discounted cash flow analysis of Interco. The financial analysts made some assumptions that could be questioned as ill founded. An increase in Working Investment for the Apparel and Retail divisions was predicted but the Strategic Positioning Goals of Interco dictated that underperforming assets were to be divested. Based on the 1988 Income Statement of Interco Apparel and Retail divisions, could easily be judged as underperforming assets. Based on the date it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Influence Of English In The Japanese Language 2. English in the Japanese language 2.1. Adaption and Integration: Influence of English on Japanese Language Use It has been many years since English was first introduced to Japanese society. In the progress of the 19th, 20th and 21st century, the English language was a continuous but varying influence on the Japanese language and its culture. The result of this centuries long process is a Japanese language that contains more than its fair share of English loanwords. Although most Japanese people, even those of older age, are familiar with a lot of English loanwords, this does not necessarily mean they are familiar with English. In my personal experience, I witnessed a Japanese woman struggling to find the English word for elevator , despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These words, which are taken from English and used functionally in Japanese conversation primarily by native speakers, often have an already existing, possible common Japanese equivalent. Therefore, these loanwords could be considered redundant and quite double to an outsider. However, in certain situations, the English word is greatly preferred, whereas the Japanese word would stand out strangely, for reasons which will be thoroughly discussed in this section. These English loanwords in Japanese language have been dubbed double loanwords , for the sake of creating an understandable and clear term, specifically for this paper. Notably, there are two domains where these double loanwords appear in Japanese speech; fashion and food. These domains are not coincidental, as both have been heavily influenced by foreign culture. Japanese fashion and Japanese Western style cuisine, or youshoku æŽ‹éŁŸ, are inspired largely by their French, English and American equivalents. • 9. Essay on Effects of the Great Depression The Effects of the Great Depression The Great Depression was a horrible event that took place almost 100 years ago. It was a time in our society when people had no money and no food. Everyone was losing their jobs because the companies couldn t afford to pay them and stay in business at the same time. • 14. Essay about The Threat of Anne Hutchinson The Threat of Anne Hutchinson In Puritan led Massachusetts Bay Colony during the days of Anne Hutchinson was an intriguing place to have lived. It was designed ideally as a holy mission in the New World called the city upon a hill, a mission to provide a prime example of how protestant lives should have subsisted of. A key ingredient to the success of the Puritan community was the cohesion of the community as a whole, which was created by a high level of conformity in the colony. Puritan leaders provided leadership for all facets of life; socially, economically, religiously, and even politically. A certain hierarchy was very apparent in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, in which ministers always seemed to have gotten their way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the trial against Anne Hutchinson, she was charged, in a vague manner, to be a danger to the colony because of the spreading of her Antinomian opinions at her meetings. Throughout the entire trial Anne was slowly being backed into a corner in which ideally she would have then broken down and admitted to doing all the wrongs in which Governor Winthrop believed she was guilty of, but she never really did. The evidence against her was so weak in nature, that it seemed that Winthrop, along with all the other elders and deputies, really needed a confession to completely justify her banishment. Though unsuccessful in their efforts, even when it was brought up by the Deputy Governor that Anne went to a meeting of ministers and told them all that they preached the covenant of works to their very faces, Anne stayed with the Fifth Amendment technique and denied nothing, while admitting nothing. Where I believe she might have messed up is when she attested to the probability of her saying this of the ministers in private. By saying that, she more than admitted to being of the same mindset of the ostracized Antinomians. This in turn gave the hungry judges/jury enough evidence for the banishment. It is my understanding that Anne s type of mischief was not too uncommon for that time period in Massachusetts. Meetings were held all over between Puritans discussing religious topics such as Biblical translations and weekly sermons ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Shakespeare s tragic play, King Lear, ambition pushes the characters toward their desires, without consideration towards the impact on others and the negative consequences. The ambition triggers the evil thoughts in the minds of the characters to reach their goals causing them to break bonds, manipulates and deceive, and make their victims feel regretful. Ultimately, the images of the weather and clothing reveal how these blinded characters rise over their base desires using evil acts. To begin, the overwhelming ambition of the characters causes disruption within their family relationship. The care for their loved ones is diminished, as they prioritize their goals over family. The characters set everything aside other than their goals, making everything else including family bond irrelevant and insignificant. This is evident in the characteristics of Edmund when he turns against his own father, exposing his secretive bond with Lear. For Rhonda Williams the answer is, without a doubt, the latter one. In her book Concrete Demands, she argues that black power and not civil rights strategies were the dominant force in twentieth century African American activism. That said, it is important to note that Williams differentiates between black power and Black Power. Black Power paid more attention to the allocation of power and aims to end African Americans dependence on Whites changing goodwill. Black Power with big B and big P represents the specific historical period during which African American activists developed and practiced oppositional ideologies and politics. Their activism was unapologetically Black, informed by ideas of Black consciousness and pride that emphasized self determination and racial autonomy. The book s first two chapters narrate the historical context of the different forms and ideas of black empowerment starting in 1917. In discussing the various progenitors of the Black Power activists, Williams portrays the multifaceted ideological and practical traditions, as well as the international foundations of early black power activism. The third chapter concentrates on the years 1963 66, a pivotal period in the African American liberation struggle during which Whites continuing resistance to Blacks long overdue participation in the political realm led many activists to take alternative routes to achieve lasting Black empowerment. When injuries do occur, a coach must know the proper treatment steps because he or she has a legal duty to provide immediate emergency care for an injured athlete. In this regard, the coach must administer the first aid or he or she must make sure a medical provider such as an athletic trainer provides the proper treatment. Furthermore, a coach must understand the subsequent rehabilitation involved that will successfully return the injured athlete to full participation. Because ankle sprains are the most common basketball injury, this chapter will discuss the treatment plan considerations. The initial objective with an ankle sprain is to control swelling that includes protection, rest, ice, compression, and evaluation (P.R.I.C.E) treatment. The P.R.I.C.E treatment plan involves 1) protecting the ankle with braces, wraps, or crutches, 2) resting the ankle by not doing activities that cause pain, 3) icing the ankle for 20 minutes and off for 60 minutes throughout the first 48 hours after the injury, compressing the ankle with a wrap, 4) elevating the ankle at or above the heart. What the speaker seems to suggest through his metaphor is that his father was his savior and helper. This idea is intensified throughout the poem because the father is being compared to a lamb which is symbolic for Christ, a globally symbolic healer and helper; the speaker also states his father was a getaway driver which suggests that his father guided him away from danger. Leitmotif is defined by the theme in the music that is associated with certain scenes, moods, or people. For an example, whenever the movie tries to create a feeling of sadness felt by Harry s loneliness after having lost his parents, there is sad music playing in the background that plays softly. By consistently having this music played whenever Harry is feeling down, we begin to associate the connection between the two. Another specific scene where the same sad theme is played in the background, is when Harry looks into the mirror where he sees his parents. • 26. Does The Amount Of Salt Affect The Mass Of Ice Cream Title: Does the amount of salt used in ice cream formation affect the mass of ice cream produced? Purpose To discover whether varied amounts of salt used in ice cream formation affect the mass of the final product. Background Information In order for water or milk to freeze, the temperature needs to be at or below 0ÂșC. In order to lower the freezing point of solution, different solutes are dissolved in solvents. When a solute is combined with a solvent, such as dissolving sugar (solute) into water (solvent), a solution is formed. The process of decreasing a freezing point of a liquid by dissolving a solute in a solution is referred to as freezing point depression. The freezing point is a colligative property, which means that the freezing point depends on the number of solute particles dissolved in a solution. For example, CaCl2, which has three particles, would lower the freezing point of a solution more than NaCl would, which only has two particles (Helmenstine). Freezing point depression is utilized in the environment as well, such as placing salt onto roads in winter during which the temperature is around or right below 0ÂșC to prevent any precipitation that falls from freezing onto the road. When ice is exposed to salt (NaCl), hydrogen bonds in the ice require more energy to join together. The energy used by the hydrogen bonds is in the form of heat energy, decreasing the temperature of the small amount of melted water surrounding the ice (Litherland). ... Imagine yourself, dear reader, transported to Shakespearian Verona, a bustling, peaceful city (aside from the occasional death or two), with its obligatory social classes going about agreeably (aside from the occasional brawl or two), and all people happy and successful (aside from the occasional poor wretch or two). The Verona in which Shakespeare s tragedy Romeo and Juliet takes place in is made sinister by the deadly consequences than ensue from its strict, unbending society. Romeo and Juliet paints a tale about two young lovers, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, whose attempts to be together are cruelly thwarted by society. Society s fixation on honor and disgrace, poverty creating laws, and austere social roles all have crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At any infraction of honor, men are pushed to duel to the death, or face the dreaded charge of cowardliness. Indeed, Tybalt, bound by honor to his family, is ready to slay Romeo even at Romeo s tiny misdemeanor of attending the Capulet party: What, dares the slave / Come hither covered with an antic face / To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? / Now, by the stock and honor of my kin / To strike him dead I hold it not a sin. (1. 5. 63 67) Soon after this scene, Tybalt duels with Mercutio in place of Romeo, and Mercutio falls dead. Obligated to avenge his friend s death, Romeo fights with Tybalt, and strikes him dead. This results in Romeo s banishment, which, of course, leads to the series of hasty plans that end in his and Juliet s deaths. Another reason that society is responsible for Romeo and Juliet s deaths lies in its unjust, poverty creating laws. When Romeo believes Juliet dead (she is actually asleep), he kills himself with poison, which in turn leads to Juliet s death when she sees him dead. However, In Mantua, the Italian city to which Romeo is banished, sale of poison is illegal. So, dear reader, do tell where he could possibly buy poison in a city whose laws prevent potion makers from making money. Romeo had the same answer, recalling a desperately poor apothecary about whom he told himself: An if a man did need a poison now / Whose sale is present death in Mantua / Here lives a ... • 31. The Rise Of The Roman And Ottoman Empires With every empire that ever existed, there were highs and lows that contributed to their rise as well as their fall in power each one somehow contributing to the rise of the next empire. Three great empires that are perfect examples of this are the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires. Regarding the rise and fall of these empires, there were differences that set them apart, however, there are several similarities that merit a thorough examination, with the Roman Empire having the greatest influence on society today. Factors that contributed to the rise of the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires involve the following: some sort of unification whether it be political or geographical; a strong army; and expansion. During Augustus Caesar s rule of the Roman Empire, he brought political stability to his people by defeating Rome s enemies, and preserving aristocracy, the Senate, the elected Roman magistracy, and Roman citizenship (Wallech et al., 2013). In the Mongolian Empire, Temujin, known later as Genghis Khan, also defeated all his rivals and became the leader of Mongolian tribes (May, 2008). Under his rule, the tribes of Mongolia were unified into a single supra tribe also known as the All Mongol State (May, 2008). The Ottoman Empire attracted and united those who roamed across the Middle East searching for means to gain their livelihoods and seeking to fulfill their religious desire to expand the territory of Islam (Yapp Shaw, 2017). Do we treat venues such as this concert with such high security measures like how we would to protect the President of the United States? The answer is no. No one cares enough or wants to spend that kind of money to protect the regular person. • 39. Witch Of Edmonton The Witch of Edmonton, written in 1621 by John Ford, Thomas Dekker and William Rowley, depicts an old and lonely woman, Elizabeth Sawyer, whose false reputation as a witch drives her to utilize the devil s power and take her revenge on those who made her do so. The story is based on the real historical figure of Elizabeth Sawyer, a woman who was put to death for witchcraft in 1621. The case of Sawyer, as portrayed in both the play and her true interrogation, proves, in multiple ways, how the underlying cause of witchcraft is the selfish desire for power. Not only does Elizabeth Sawyer herself emit this desire for power through her prideful need for revenge, but the villagers of Edmonton also emit this desire for power through their use ... This is not to say that villagers simply created the myth of witchcraft on the spot as a means of obtaining a scapegoat, but, rather, that they latched onto rumours, morphed from old folklore and spread about the village, of witches that would cause misfortune to their neighbours. This is exactly the kind of behaviour we see in the play, as the villagers of Edmonton use the accusation of witchcraft in order to wield power, not only over Sawyer herself, but over the events in their village which they wish to prevent. The villagers appear to have known that Sawyer is a witch for some time, but it is not until a villager blames her for their misfortunes, that others speak out and claim that she has wronged them, too. For example, towards the end of the play, Old Banks claims that his horse has become suddenly ill, and says and this, I ll take my death upon t, is long of this jadish witch Mother Sawyer.
