Compare And Contrast Ancient Persia And India
Compare and Contrast Ancient Persia and India It is crazy how two different civilizations from two
different times can have such similar ideas about their economies. But, India, becoming an empire
much later than Persia, had some improved technologies and ideas which made these two civilizations
somewhat different. Persia s main focus of strengthening their economy was the development of
agriculture. By growing crops like grains, fruits, and vegetables, the Persians were able to acquire a
great amount of food, making the population grow and grow. Fortunately, their location helped them
conquer smaller civilizations so they can gain fertile soil, which is extremely important in agriculture.
The abundance of food that the Persians had helped them trade with other civilizations that couldn t
grow the crops they needed. In return they would receive items that they needed to help their economy
grow. Persia s main trade route was the Persian Royal Road, which was about 1500 miles long. To
transport themselves to deliver a message or items to trade with, the Persians would have intervals
along the road and one horse would pull one man until he reaches his stop. It would take about nine
days to travel the whole road using couriers, while on footy it would have taken them three months,
making trade and communication very slow. Persia did have a social class, with the royal family on
top, and of course, the slaves at the bottom. Slaves were a very big part in the labor systems of

How Technology Improves Our Lives
Over the decade technology has advanced significantly and the improvement of modern day creations
had contributed to depolluting the world. With technology there s no need to waste paper into printing
out maps, modern day phones have GPS navigation, that allows us to get from one place to another
with hardly any hassles. Also, these devices keep us connected to friends and family throughout the
whole universe without having to waste any more trees that produce material for us to write

The Significance Of The Ten Duel Commandments By Lin-Mel...
It s a simple catchy song which always makes a person who knows proper dueling etiquette cringe,
especially with the songs before and after adding to the heavy sense of historical inaccuracy. While the
intent of the Ten Duel Commandments is to give the modern audience some knowledge on how
dueling is done, Lin Mel Miranda has many things wrong within this attempt. He gives a modern
viewer an incorrect assumption of the process of proper pistol dueling. The song gives a list of ten
things in a specific order, a parody of the Ten Commandments, leading the listener to believe the
challenge is first. This is sadly out order and very misleading. The second point is happily a bit more
reliable information. You do have a second handle your negotiations, although he left out a few crucial
elements. In the description of the duel itself, we have a couple of here and there discrepancies that
finish making this song detrimental to the true understanding of historical duels of this era. The Ten
Commandments of the Old Testament is well known to almost everyone in the modern American
public given most of our founding was on Christian doctrine and traditions. This also ties into the
amount of top ten lists that are so popular in American Culture, which has lead to the modern viewer s
preconceived notion that something listed as Number 1 is the first and most important thing in the list
given. In the song, point number one is The Challenge demands satisfaction. If they apologize

Millersburg Case Brief
MILLERSBURG A Millersburg area man on Tuesday denied being in possession of firearms as he
fled the scene where he was allegedly stalking a donut delivery driver.
Andrew L. Hershberger, 40, of 4607 Township Road 302, Millersburg, pleaded not guilty in Holmes
County Municipal Court to carrying a concealed weapon, menacing by stalking, possession of drugs,
possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
If convicted, Hershberger faces up to six years in prison.
The charges stem from a Dec. 19 incident.
Millersburg Police were called that night to a reported disturbance at a gas station along state Route
39. There, they were advised Hershberger, who had fled the gas station as they arrived, had been
following the delivery driver between his last four stops to local businesses, according to Sgt. Matt

Hershberger not only admitted to following the deliveryman, but said he had several loaded weapons a
pistol on him, a pistol on the dashboard and a rifle in the back seat in his vehicle, according to Shaner.
Hershberger said he thought he was compliant with Ohio s open carry law, which does not extend to
weapons in a vehicle, said Shaner.
Hershberger told the officer he had been following the deliveryman because he believed the man was
delivering either heroin or methamphetamine along his route and Hershberger indicated an interest in
intervening, said Shaner, noting police do not believe there was any substance to Hershberger s claim.
During Hershberger s arrest, police found marijuana on him and in the car, where they also found
rolling papers, said Shaner.
Hershberger is next scheduled to appear in court for an April 13 pretrial conference. A jury trial is

Haemolysis Test Lab Report
To find the first unknown bacteria, the microbiology student started by inoculating a sample on a slide
to stain with Gram s stain; resulting a gram positive cocci. He continued by looking at the
dichotomous key in the Lab Manual, afterwards doing a catalase test on an inoculated slide to
differentiate it from being either a Streptococcus or a Staphylococcus (2). He then put the hydrogen
peroxide on the inoculated slide, it immediately reacts, resulting on an excessive bubbling reaction,
concluding that the Gram positive species is catalase positive. He now had to inoculate a sample of the
bacteria to a 10% salt agar media to determine whether it is a Staphylococcus or a Micrococcus. After
inoculating and incubating at 37°C for two days, it resulted with substantial growth. This indicates that
the unknown Gram positive bacteria s genus is a Staphylococcus. Following up, the microbiology
student needed to determine whether it of the species aureus, saprophyticus, or epidermidis based on
the selected characteristics table for staphylococcus (2). He conducted a hemolysis test on a thawed

Similarities And Differences Between Sherlock And Watson
Sherlock Holmes and Watson the most iconic duo from a novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,
that have been reimagined many times over the years. Watson and Sherlock are both well rounded
characters with large differences that depend on each other in their quests to solve many murder
mysteries.
Dr. Watson the narrator for sherlock stories is a calm down to earth military doctor who works with
Sherlock throughout his investigations his character is dependent on Sherlock for many reasons. In the
live action television series Sherlock they made John Watson s dependence on sherlock very apparent.

This builds their friendship since watson is the only person to not treat Sherlock like a freak. Watson
will often save Sherlock from dangers he put himself into. In the live action television series Sherlock
willingly got in the cab with the murderer and almost took the poison out of desperation to outsmart
the murder. If watson didn t follow them and kill the murder he could have most likely died. We will
never really know if Sherlock was in control of that situation but watson showed up in time to make
sure nothing bad happened to Sherlock and got more clues off the murderer. Sherlock has Watson
move in for a reason and it is obviously to help Sherlock where he is weak. With watson being more
humane than sherlock he can provide a different perspective for cases and clues that sherlock can not
easily see. In the television series sherlock, Sherlock and Watson were inspecting a shoe left at a crime
scene, Sherlock asked Watson of his opinion about the shoe Watson can only say it has been used, and
the size was large, therefore it belongs to a male. Sherlock then commented on Watson s observation
skills An outside eye, a second opinion. It s very useful to me. . To Sherlock Watson was like and

Hog Waste In North Carolina
Hog farms are plentiful in North Carolina, but the 40 million gallons of untreated hog waste created
everyday creates more than just a foul smell. Hog waste creates huge environmental, health, and
economic issues, such as excessive nitrates in groundwater, the disruption of the thyroid, and the
decrease of land value. Due to the number of hogs and how inefficiently the waste is being disposed
of, this is becoming an increasing problem in North Carolina. The threat to the environment, our
health, and the economy could be significantly reduced by using cleaner and more efficient ways to
dispose of the waste, such as anaerobic digesters. The problem with the hog farms is the inefficient
disposal of the waste. There are 10 million hogs in North ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The waste contains large amounts of nitrogen and phosphorous, the primary ingredients in fertilizer
for plants. This causes the plants to grow faster, so when the waste gets into waterways it can cause
algae blooms. The algae can block out the sunlight from other organisms in the water. Algae grows
very quickly and dies very quickly. The decomposing algae uses the dissolved oxygen in the water
which is essential to the lives of the organisms in the water. It causes a dead zone, an area where it is
difficult for organisms to live there. The excessive nitrates in the waste can cause more than
environmental problems, it can also be detrimental to our health. The nitrates can get into the
groundwater and the surface water. Excessive nitrate exposer can cause blue baby syndrome, the
disruption of the thyroid, and bladder cancer. Communities near the hog farms can also suffer from
respiratory problems, anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances. Humans can acquire more than 40
different types of diseases from the hog waste. Experts believe that the swine flu outbreak of 2009
2010 was caused by storing it in giant lagoons. Along with environmental and health issues, hog waste
creates economic problems. Land value goes down in the communities near the farms due to the
health risks and the foul smell. Property tax is based on land value, so when the land value is low, the

The Passage of Time and Life in The Swimmer, by John Cheever
Having written a multitude of short stories and novels, author, John Cheever, has showcased his
incredible writing abilities multiple times throughout his career. Even as a child, Cheever outwardly
expressed his desire to write. As proven by his longstanding career, Cheever s thirst for writing
remained with him throughout his entire life. In perhaps his most famous piece of work, The
Swimmer, Cheever s impeccable writing ability is showcased brilliantly. Although originally set out to
be a novel, The Swimmer has grown to become a widely recognized and analyzed short story, one
which both readers and literary critics alike admire. By drawing on his personal life and by using a
wide range of writing techniques, Cheever depicts and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is this structure precisely that gives Cheever s works the power to resonate with a wide range of
individuals. Author of John Cheever s Flowering Forth: The Breakthroughs of 1947, James O Hara,
discusses this aspect of Cheever s writing in his academic journal:
He had continued to experiment with the choice of materials for his stories, and had gradually won
over editors with a combination of solid structural technique he had always known how to put a story
together and Hemingwayesque understatement. (51)
Although O Hara did not specifically address the short story The Swimmer in this particular excerpt,
this quotation is nonetheless viable and true in its claims.
Along with a solid structure, in order for a piece of fiction to resonate with readers, the work also has
to have meaningful characters. Cheever has proven to excel in this aspect of writing as well. This
excellence can also be attributed to Cheever and his personal life. Bloom writes: Just like his
characters, then, Cheever was not a perfect man, yet he was a decent one, who believed in heroism
and sentiment and family and a minor man s capacity to glory. Neddy Merrill, the main character in
The Swimmer, can be described in a similar manner, for he too is an imperfect man who seeks glory
and purpose. In the same vein, literary analyst, Robert A. Morace, states: The characters in this and
other Cheever fictions all face the same

Decisional Diction In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Poetry Essay The Road Not Taken In the narrative poem, The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost utilize
literary devices to magnified the concept of decisional dilemma and present a message on paths
chosen in the course of life. Robert Frost implemented strategic diction, sensory imagery, and
figurative language that enhances the content portrayed in the poem itself. The poem focus around the
turmoil of the two roads the speaker has to choose one being a commonly taken path and the other one
isn t commonly taken is filled with discomfort and unexpected nature . The speaker eventually
selected the route of uncertainty, yet it develops the notion of individuality that opposes the influence
of socially uniformed opinion. Forst s decision solidified the concept that each individual possess the
ability to form their own unique belief, and take their future in their own hands. Robert Frost
incorporates specific usage of dictions throughout the poem to enhance meaning, while exerting his
attitude in the context of the literature. In the first line of The Road Not Taken, the term diverged is
placed after Two roads to introduce the story at a location where the speaker is faced with a decision.
The term word diverge projects the image that the road is separated with the results differ based on the
route the speaker chooses. The speaker responds with I could not travel both in line 2 of the poem.
The term not in this case elaborates on the fact that the speaker is unable to foresee the outcome of
both route. A significant component on why the speaker is apprehensive on deciding which road he
will ultimately take. Robert Frost incorporates an assonance rhythm in each of his stanza with the last
words of the first, third, and fourth lines having the same ending syllable, as well as second and fourth
line respectively. The usage of an assonance in this poem represents the movement of each step that
the speaker takes as he progressively walk in the path of life he chooses.
Visual image of scenery enable the readers to merge with the environment and mental state the
speaker is currently experiencing within the realm of the literature. Frost announce that he looked

Stricter Laws On Sex Offenders Essay
Enforcing stricter laws on sex offenders will ensure better protection for the people of America. The
laws of sex offenders have evolved due to the high number of sexual offenses that could have been
prevented if the sanctions of sex violators were stricter or at least had underwent some rehabilitation.
Warning people about the level of crimes in the area. In argument, laws have been effective in
reducing rate of sexual offenses and increased public safety of the residents. In 1986, a tragic

A public tragedy often leads to measures being taken to avoid similar tragic events in the future. In
2006, proposition #83 was officially passed by 70% of California voters for the protection of children
from repeat sex offenders who had been convicted before. The story behind why the proposition # 83
was originally passed is also a another tragic. Jessica Lunsford, only nine years old, was kidnapped,
raped, and murdered by a convicted sex offender named John Couey who was not under the police
surveillance and he had relapsed into the same criminal behavior, after receiving sanctions that was
not strict enough. Stricter sanctions could had hold him still in jail. If he received rehabilitation, the
chances of him relapsing into the crime would had been lower according to the data showing a
reduction in recidivism therapy. According to Weinrott Blackshaw (1989), the recidivism rates for
offenders who were treated were reduced compared to recidivism rates for offenders who were not
treated. With better police surveillance, the crime could have been prevented if the sex offender was
on guard and on lifetime global positioning (prop 83). After proposition was passed, officers are now
ordered to keep track of sex offenders and they are forbidden from entering in areas near schools and
parks where kids are usually present. It also increased the penalties for repeated sex offenders.
Because of this new law, children are now better protected from sex

2.3 Dominant Strategy. Dominant Strategy Produces “A Higher
2.3 Dominant strategy
Dominant strategy produces a higher payoff than any other strategy the player can use for every
possible combination of its rivals strategies (Perloff). In other words, in game theory, strategic
dominance results in better strategies than any other competitors. This will be explained more detailed
later in this report.
2.4 Nash equilibrium The Nash Equilibrium is a concept of game theory where the optimal outcome
of a game is one where no player has an incentive to deviate from his chosen strategy after
considering an opponent s choice (Investopedia). The Nash equilibrium is said to exist if a player has
no incentive to independently change his course of action in the game. This is a point where both

For example, during the summer, more frequent travel increases the demand of gasoline. On the other
hand, the demand decreases in the winter. The higher the demand, the larger the price tags. Demand
differs by season.
Calculating the cost of gasoline
When a station receives a load of gasoline, an invoice is generated that list the price of gasoline by
grade. The price will be determined by the prevailing wholesale cost at the time of delivery, the
freight, and federal, state and local taxes applicable to the station s location (DeCostanza, P1). Labor
expense is also factored into the estimation of the cost of gasoline at gasoline stations as a baseline.
Determining competitive conditions
Gasoline prices vary at each gasoline station because gasoline marketing is very competitive. Retail
prices of competing stations are determined by a pressure of prices in immediate trading areas.
Gasoline sales are tools to increase sales traffic for other more profitable products like convenience
store items: Giveaway the gasoline to sell the coffee is a saying often heard in the convenience store
business (DeCostanza, P1). Similarly, because auto repair shops need to build their customer base for
repair, auto repair shops might sell gasoline cheaper than other gasoline stations nearby.
3.2 Gasoline prices
Game theory helps us understand the behavior of gasoline station owners in setting gasoline prices.
Table 3 is a simple application of game theory to gasoline pricing.

The Geology Behind Tsunami Waves
Tsunamis: the Geology Behind the Deadly Wave Tsunamis are damaging natural disasters that are
universally feared. Nature can be one of the entities that terrifies humans the most. These disastrous
tsunamis can be caused by many different situations. Geology is closely connected to the production
of tsunamis and their occurrences. It is also a useful tool in identifying the causes of tsunamis in
ancient times. All tsunamis are tied to rocks and minerals, which cause earthquakes. When the ocean
floor moves, water is thrust upward, thus causing a tsunami. These giant waves of destruction are
caused by volcanoes, earthquakes, and underwater landslides. Earthquakes are more common in the
causing of tsunamis than any other cause. Some notable tsunamis throughout history are the Mt. Etna

These deposits are sedimentary and are left behind when the tsunami pulls back out to sea. These
deposits can often be found in lagoons just off the coastline. The sediments are fine grained.
Sometimes boulders can be used to identify past tsunamis but this is not a reliable approach due to
cyclones and other natural disasters having the same ability of boulder movement. These deposits help
scientists to uncover the truths about the pasts and even determine the magnitude of a historical
earthquake. There was an earthquake in 869 in Sendai and Honshu called the Sanriku earthquake. The
scientists were able to uncover facts about the earthquake due to the sediments left behind from the
resulting tsunami. The term used to describe these scientists and their profession is Palesoseismology.
They look at sediments and rocks and observe them. Using the observations, they uncover the truth of
ancient earthquakes in the past. This is helpful to inform people of seismic hazard and to prevent
widespread damage. If there has been an earthquake previously then there is likely to be one again.
This may take place now or 100,000 years from

Sherman s Maggots Research Paper
Wound care clinics around the country are giving maggots a try on some of their sickest patients after
high tech treatments fail. It s a therapy quietly championed since the early 1990s by a California
physician who s earned the nickname Dr. Maggot. But Dr. Ronald Sherman s maggots are getting
more attention since, in January, they became the first live animals to win Food and Drug
Administration approval, as a medical device to clean out wounds. A medical device? They remove
the dead tissue that impedes healing mechanically, FDA determined. It s called chewing. But maggots
do more than that, says Sherman, who raises the tiny, worm like fly larvae in a laboratory at the

In June, FDA also gave its seal of approval to leeches, those bloodsuckers that help plastic surgeons

University of Iowa researchers reported early evidence that drinking whipworm eggs, which causes a
temporary, harmless infection, might soothe inflammatory bowel disease by diverting the overactive
immune reaction that causes it. There s a little more yuck factor with maggots. Most people know of
them from TV crime dramas, where infestations of bodies help determine time of death. Actually,
maggots medicinal qualities have long been known. Civil War surgeons noted that soldiers whose
wounds harbored maggots seemed to fare better. In the 1930s, a Johns Hopkins University surgeon s

The Argument On The Theory Of Utilitarianism
Mill has the view that there is a general misconception regarding the use of the term Utilitarianism.
Most people refer to it when comparing between wrong and right in a restricted manner that is
divergent to pleasure. The opponents of utilitarianism often attach everything with the element of
pleasure; thus, contributing to denouncing the theory. However, the proponents of the theory of
utilitarianism such as Epicurus and Bentham asserted that it was pleasure in itself and the exclusion of
pain. Therefore, the morality principle of utility, which is also referred to as the greatest happiness
principle maintains that actions are justified to be right when they produce positive results that are
associated with happiness. On the contrary, actions are wrong when they are linked to the negative
outcome that tends to suppress happiness. Happiness refers to the absence of pain when there is
pleasure, while unhappiness is characterized by pain and lack of pleasure. Basing on the theory of
utilitarianism, morality is founded on human activities that are aimed to promote happiness and
pleasure as well as suppress pain. That is, humans desire the end of an action to be pleasure.
Mill talks about the various priorities that are related to pleasure, which human beings possess. He
illustrates the view by stating that, I have dwelt on this point as being a necessary part of perfectly just
conception of utility or happiness considered the directive rule of human conduct (p:11). For

Analysis of E.E. Cummings In Just
Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience
that reveals the human spirit (BrainyQuote). Edward Estlin Cummings (most commonly known as
E.E. Cummings) proves this quote to be accurate because Cummings takes those risks to make his
poems very spontaneous and out there such as in r p o p h e s s a g r . This 19th century poet made
great poems that won many honors and awards such as the Dial award and many more. Cummings

The setting of this poem occurs outside in spring. Where children are playing and doing what one
would see all little kids doing, playing hopscotch, playing in the mud, and dancing around. This poem
is an auditory as well as a visual read. It s meant to be read aloud, even the title becomes part of the
poem itself. The poem itself visually takes the reader along the trail in the park in early spring when
little children are running around and when the sun is out and shining bright. Cummings has a sort of
odd structure to this poem making it look like it dances around to go with the theme of playfulness and

(Topic Sentence) Bullying is a serious problem that should not be taken lightly. (Background Info)
Jamie Nabozny was a boy who was constantly harassed at Ashland Middle and High school for being
gay. One day, his mother called the office and the principal just ignored Jamie s bullying problem. The
bullying escalated and Jamie received no help from his school. For example, Nabozny even tried to
commit suicide and was hospitalized while the school did nothing to help. The bullies went so far as to
beat him up and threaten to kill him if he told anybody. (Attention Grabbing Strategy). A few weeks
later, Jamie said that he could not tolerate school anymore from the constant abuse and torment. He
couldn t tolerate anymore and he ran away from home to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Evidence that Supports your Point/Assertion from Documentary) He attempted suicide and ran away
to a different city just to avoid the constant barrage of emotional warfare. It is obvious that he felt very
(Mood) threatened and unwelcome at school. (Elaboration of Point and Evidence) It is a fact that all
students are sometimes upset from school. Nabozny had to deal with offensive language, and insulting
slurs. (Explain how Main Point and Example(s) Support Thesis Statement) This experience that Jamie
had to deal with shows how harassment can really hurt somebody if it is not stopped. Somebody has to
take a stand to stop harassment. (Significance) First off, the story of Nabozny showed the extremes of
what can happen if harassment. Secondly, There have been countless other counts where students have
been bullied and commit suicide. Though unlike Jamie, some do not live to see the sun the next day.
Those events could have been avoided if somebody just speaks up against the bullies and say no to

Thomas Foster s Themes Traced in Mulan In his book How to Read Literature Like a Professor,
Thomas Foster explains many reoccurring themes in literature, and shows how to recognize them and
in some instances shows certain works where they occur. By reading this guide to literature, one may
gain a deeper understanding of the work itself and of the author s intent in writing it. However, Foster
s methods can also be applied to films. A film that contains many of the various themes, models,
symbolism, and devices discussed in his book is Walt Disney s Mulan. Mulan is a character type with
which people are familiar. Foster discusses this process of association in the chapter Now ... Show

After Mulan has failed in her encounter with the matchmaker, she goes home and begins singing the
marvelous, gripping song called Reflection . She asks, When will my reflection show who I am
inside? She realizes that her fair appearance does not reflect her feelings. Singing this song, she
washes away her makeup, and gives up on becoming the perfect daughter and bride; it is a baptism.
Maybe it would be key to mention that during this song, Mulan sings in a downpour of rain. Just like
Foster describes in his book, Mulan is baptized in the rain. Disney movies are not notorious for their
violent nature. So, when something violent occurs in a Disney movie, or an individual (or animal in
many cases) dies, it must carry some kind of importance. In the chapter of his book More Than It s
Gonna Hurt You , Fosters says that there is usually more to violence than just violence. When Mulan
is struck by the sword of Shan Yu, many more things happen to her than a fatal wound. She almost
meets her demise, and for the first time, the reality of war sets in. Mulan realizes that she is not
invincible and grasps the perils of war for the first time. When she receives medical attention for her
wound, she is discovered to be a woman. All she has worked for up until this point is now for naught,
as she is expelled from the army and her family name is disgraced. Another instance where violence
plays an important role is when Li Shang s

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Farmer
Farmer, the perfect profession?
This article will provide information of what being a farmer is, what is needed to become one, a
common routine and some positive and negative facts of this profession.
A farmer is a person who owns a farm and or takes care of it . Farmers normally perform two kinds of
professional activities: one is related with animals and the other with plants. The first one includes all
the process of breeding livestock, such as cattle, sheep, pig and goats. On the other hand we have the
work of agriculture; it consists on the growing of different kinds of plants for human or animal
consumption and products used for the development human life. Nowadays these two activities can be
performed separately, and that is why this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being in constant contact with nature is one of the most common statements made by different
farmers. Seeing a deer crossing happily through the fields is beautiful to see and it is not within reach
of other jobs. In addition to this, you are the one establishing your working hours and your way of
working it is your responsibility to choose when and how you want to work. Contrary to popular
belief, farmers are able to develop their creativity as they can try to perform new techniques of
sowing, for example, or, they can invent new devices to improve their work. Another important aspect
is that your work is going to be different through the years because every harvest is going to be
different from the previous one. Becoming a farmer will teach a lot of new things, not only about
plants and crops, but also you are likely to become a weather forecast. For example if the clouds of the
sky look like stone pavement it is very possible that the next day is going to rain. Consuming your
own harvest is one of the most rewarding experiences and the taste of your own production is not

Anaerobic Pond in Wastewater Treatment
DEFINITION ANAEROBIC POND Anaerobic ponds are deep treatment ponds that exclude oxygen
and encourage the growth of bacteria, which break down the effluent. It is in the anaerobic pond that
the effluent begins breaking down in the absence of oxygen anaerobically . The anaerobic pond acts
like an uncovered septic tank. Anaerobic bacteria break down the organic matter in the effluent,
releasing methane and carbon dioxide. Sludge is deposited on the bottom and a crust forms on the
surface as show in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 Operation of the Anaerobic Pond. Anaerobic ponds are commonly 2 5
m deep and receive such a high organic loading (usually gt;100g BOD/m3 d equivalent to gt;3000
kg/ha/d for a depth of 3 m). They contain an organic loading that is ... Show more content on

The biochemical reactions that take place in anaerobic ponds are the same as those occurring in
anaerobic digesters, with a first phase of acidogenesis and a second slower rate of methanogenesis.
Ambient temperatures in hot climate countries are conducive to these anaerobic reactions and
expected BOD5 removals for different retention times in treating sewage have been given by Mara
(1976) as shown in Table 2. More recently, Gambrill et al. (1986) have suggested conservative
removals of BOD5 in anaerobic ponds as 40% below 10°C, at a design loading of 100 g/m3d, and
60% above 20°C, at a design loading of 300 g/m3d, with linear interpolation for operating temperature
between 10 and 20°C. Higher removal rates are possible with industrial wastes, particularly those
containing significant quantities of organic settleable solids. Of course, other environmental
conditions in the ponds, particularly pH, must be suitable for the anaerobic microorganisms bringing
about the breakdown of BOD. Table 2. BOD removals in Anaerobic Ponds loaded at 250 g (Mara
1976) BOD5/m3d. Retention Time (days) | BOD5 removal % | 1 | 50 | 2.5 | 60 | 5 | 70 | Anaerobic
ponds are normally designed on the basis of a temperature dependent empirical value for the
permissible organic loading rate. Land requirements will be lowest if the maximum possible BOD
loading can be applied. The upper limit of the volumetric BOD loading is determined by odor
emissions and minimum pH threshold value at which

The Truth About Kennedy s Assassination
The Truth About Kennedy s Assassination
There needs to be more explaining and evidence on about President Kennedy s assassination because
what the government says is nonsense and doesn t line up. The government says it was Oswald, but
how could that be he had a wife and kids, so why would he want to go away from them and go to
prison? There s things that the government has concealed from the public. Just something seems to be
off about the government s explanation. I m going to try to give an explanation for what seems to be
the truth due to the information I found in the article The JFK Assassination .
See, here s what I think is that Oswald was a part of a larger conspiracy than we know, but in this
conspiracy he is innocent. Also instead of Oswald it was the government, a bar owner(Jack Ruby), and
the mob did it because how would someone be calm and have no sweat if he did shoot Kennedy? In
addition, be on the 6th floor, then get on the 4th floor in ninety seconds and still have regular
breathing?
Now you might be saying, What why would they have? . There s an explanation which is that the
government didn t like Kennedy. I think this because he made the mob angry and the government didn
t like that he did. Now Jack Ruby had connections to police and they work for the ... Show more

questions. I even still have a few questions, but my main question is if my theory is correct that they
government was involved, then why didn t they just kill him along time before if they did want him
dead? I also can answer my question which is that they wanted the right time, in front of a huge crowd

Pompeii, By Janet Scott Batchler And Lee Batchler
The film that I selected for this film review is Pompeii, a 2014 historical disaster movie that was
directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and written by Janet Scott Batchler and Lee Batchler. The movie was
adapted from a 2003 book with the same title that was written by Robert Harris. I chose Pompeii
because I heard about the devastating event that took place in the ancient Roman city in various
television programs and books. As a result, I wanted to learn more about the event and the daily life of
Pompeii before the volcanic eruption occurred. I thought that watching the movie would give me
insight about Pompeii and the ancient Roman civilization. In addition, I also chose this film because it
features talented actors such as Kit Harington, Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje, Carrie Anne Moss, and
Emily Browning. The historical context of Pompeii is the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 CE that did
significant damage to the city of Pompeii and Herculaneum, a town northwest of Pompeii. Before the
eruption, Pompeii was an important and lively city filled with thousands of inhabitants. According to
Dorothy Hinshaw Patent, the author of Lost City of Pompeii, a book that has detailed information on
the city, states, Estimates of its population run from 6,400 to 30,000 , but most experts think that
between 8,000 and 12,000 people lived there year round (Patent 14). The eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, an
active volcano situated near the Bay of Naples, occurred on August 24, 79 CE. The volcanic eruption

ABSTRACT: Spirometers are used to measure lung capacity and response of lungs and chest during
physical therapy. Current spirometers available in the market are expensive and usually cost over
$1,000. Due to this high cost, many physicians practicing in developing countries like India, cannot
afford spirometry equipment. As a result, millions of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease, or COPD, are unable to be effectively monitored or treated for their disease. Thus, the
development of a low cost reliable spirometer would allow these physicians to assess their patient s
pulmonary health. All these factors led to the development of a product which addresses cost issues as
well as technical accuracy[1] . A computer based miniaturized spirometer system is Designed to be
realized which would use a solid state pressure sensor. A proto type of a Computer based Spirometer
system has been realized which would employ a solid state single port pressure sensor. A dedicated
analog signal acquisition and processing channel has been designed and tested along with the solid
state pressure sensor. Calibration of pressure sensor for known values of applied pressure

The Death Of Edward II
It was 1307 and Edward I who was sixty eight at the time of his death would now pass the throne to
his son Edward II. Edward II who was Lord of Caernarfon, prince of Wales, duke of Aquitaine, earl of
Chester and count of Pontheiu would now inherit a war with Scotland from his father. Edward II was
rather a particular fellow with unusual hobbies that he showed throughout his reign. Evidence points
that Edward II may have had a relationship with Piers Gaveston, but also he had been banished from
the kingdom by his father Edward I. This incident or should I say interest in men would become one
of the biggest problems throughout all of his reign. Piers Gaveston was disliked very much by
parliament and several times was banished by Edward I during his reign. Edward II would also come
to marry Isabella the daughter of Phillip IV , which in the end led to the end of his reign, but before
we get to that, there was also a man named Hugh Despenser that would become an affectionate friend
for Edward II after Piers Gaveston death. Piers Gaveston caused much trouble for Lancaster and
Warwick. He was hated by them significantly that in 1312 he was captured and executed by them and
it caused much pain for the king who loved Gaveston much. Edward II losing his best friend and
possibly lover was forced to now rely more on his queen, Isabella, which would prove to improve the
relationship of both them during their brief time reigning together. Isabella loved Edward II very
much, but

Comparing Machiavelli s The Prince And Letter To Francesco...
Niccolo Machiavelli, a Renaissance philosopher and historian, is regarded as one of the founders of
classical political philosophy and political science. To this day, scholars continue to debate whether
the Florencian writer is more sympathetic to the few or the many. With some of his texts containing
views contradicting the others, it is difficult to contend whether or not the philosopher is a true
democrat. Despite many of Machiavelli s seemingly democratic views and ideas, his personal
ideology appears to be more of a Republican nature. His republicanism is most informed by his
remarks on the people, nobles, and ideal state structure. Through analysis of his writings in The Prince
and The Discourses , and his Letter to Francesco Vettori, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If there is a minority, then the majority is much too large and may even impede on it. Democrats
govern by the masses according to majority rule, leading to critics labeling the structure as a tyranny
of the majority because of the lack of legal preservation of rights. For republicans, however, justice is
administered accordingly with set rules and guidelines, so as not to infringe upon the minority.
Machiavelli recognized the ongoing tensions between the few and many, each trying to control the
other, but never regarded it as an issue. In Discourses he writes, In every republic there are two
different inclinations: that of the people and that of the upper class, and that all the laws which are
made in favor of liberty are born of the conflict between the two. (I IV). Here, Machiavelli actually
sees this conflict as a source of political stability, necessary for the growth of every Republic. Without
tension, that would mean there is no coexistence between regimes and only a single type left to
dominate the platform. The existence of a dominant upper class was necessary to keep a Republic in
check; otherwise a, democracy could emerge and dominate the political sphere. Machiavelli s
sympathy to the few emerges from his view of human nature. The reason why the philosopher has
many critics is because his writings tend to sound quite evil, dark, and gruesome in nature. To others,

What Is Elie Wiesel s Role In Night
Imagine being one of of five hundred thousand jews that survived the mass murdering of over 7

was just on the tip of his nose during the duration of being in camps and getting transferred numerous
times. In the novel Night the book goes over the whole experience of the holocaust down to the bare
bone from a first person point of view, the author Elie Wiesel was really able to grasp how things were
to go down during the holocaust and how almost everybody was mistreated. Some may believe that
Elie s faith in god is what kept him alive during his time in the concentration camp; however such as
physical and emotional support he got from his dear father more strongly proves that the relationship
with his father is actually what kept him alive.

and follows Bronia as she must learn to support her family and survive the war. Stachniak takes
Bronia s real life experiences and turns them into a wonderful work of fiction, blending fact with
fiction effectively. To begin, the author creates compelling family dynamics. To add on, the characters
in the novel are very interesting and develop throughout. Furthermore, the author fills the book with
many flashbacks and foreshadowing. To conclude, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book is unique because it is a detailed biography about the events in Bronia s life. The readers
learn that Bronia and her brother Valsav are very different from others in the dance industry because
they are trying to change the face of ballet by modernizing it; Modern ballet should break boundaries,
chart new paths, achieve the unity of music and movements. Modern ballet should be a feast for the
eyes (Stachniak 99). Bronia has quite an interesting life outside of her professional career. It is
interesting to see how she starts as a dancer and the things she must overcome throughout her life. For
instance, once Bronia marries Sasha, another dancer, they have two kids, Irina and Levushka; and she
must learn on how her career choices will affect her entire family. Throughout the novel Bronia
becomes more courageous especially once she has to deal with several of Sasha s affairs. She
eventually leaves him after one of his mistresses becomes pregnant; this is quite like the situation her
parents were in at the beginning of the novel. To conclude, The Chosen Maiden is a good book
because the characters are unique and the readers observe their entire

Love Should Grow Up Like A Wild Iris In The Fields By...
Love Should Grow up Like a Wild Iris in the Fields is an exquisite literary piece that exhumes the
pragmatism of love. Griffin s poem is filled with compelling comparisons that display her true
feelings on the matter. Even though love can be beautiful, this sentiment is not comparable to an iris in
the field. Griffin believes that love is flawed, much like humans. Moreover, love is more closely
related to the iris of an eye. Throughout Love Should Grow up Like a Wild Iris in the Fields Susan
Griffin provokes her readers to ponder why they consistently enslave themselves with the burden of
daily monotony, instead of enjoying the simplicity of love. Griffin uses two metaphors in her poem
when describing love, as a flower, as well as the iris of an eye. Her comparisons are as compelling as
they are forthright. Using her comparisons, Griffin describes love as predictable, expected and routine.
Realistically, love most resembles the iris of an eye, rather than a beautiful flower in the field.
Throughout her poem, Griffin makes a concise correlation between love and both irises. In the first
verse Griffin begins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
was to be predicted,is almost absurd, goes on from day to day (17) Everyone wants to believe in a
happily ever after fairy tale. Children are brought up coveting those who seem to possess just that.
This author, however, captures the realism of everyday love. Griffin does not describe love as
beautiful and spontaneous like the blooming of an iris, but more like everyday chaos that we are
encumbered with. In lines 18 20 Griffin expresses that love is shown by an adherence to the mundane.
Completing everyday tasks in a repetitive manner, without any desire to break away from the
monotony. While there is no doubt that reporting to work day after day and coming home to take care
of family is an expression of love, Griffin wonders what prevents love from breaking free of these

Evolution Of The Modern Era Of Skateboarding
Prior to the days of Dogtown, skateboarding was dead. However, as soon as the Dogtown culture
came alive, so did the modern era of skateboarding. As a result of surfing, the California drought of
the 1970s, and the film work and photography of Craig Stecyk, this once dead sport has risen from the
dead for good. It all began in the early 1970s when Dogtown, located in Venice Beach, California was
home to a secret surfing cove. This area was constantly populated by pyromaniacs, drug addicts,
artists, and of course surfers , but most importantly the Zephyr surf team. This team was known as The
mafia of the waves (Peralta, 2002). While surfing on the coast, this team relentlessly practiced new
and unique moves on the beachfront. Little did they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each one helped to expand growth for the extreme sport already growing in popularity.
First off, the accident of architecture was inevitable. As years went on, the minds and creativity of
skaters was bound to evolve. The boys from Dogtown did just that. With reference to my second
point, these skaters took advantage of Mother Nature. When the California drought of the 1970s
occurred, they made use of the architecture that was not being used. Seaside pools became more than
just an empty unusable piece of land built underground, but a bowl for skaters to develop their
innovation for the future of the sport (Hayes, 2005).
The availability of television time also had an impact on the rise of skate. While the status of
skateboarding was taking off, so was television and sport. The 1980s marked the introduction of
innumerable network options (Cable s Story, 2015). Not long after in the mid 1990s, the X Games
kicked off and included skateboarding as one of its activities. From that point on the skateboarding
market continued to flourish as more and more television shows came out about skating, along with
the creation of video game such as Tony Hawk s Pro

Externalities
Elizabeth Turra Brouwer

An Externality is when costs or benefits of certain activities spill or fall into third parties that have
nothing to do with the initial situation in hand; its like a side effect or consequence of an activity that
affects other parties who did not choose to incur that cost or benefit.
Like you can see there can be either costs, or benefits that affect those third parties. When it is a cost
that is imposed on third parties, it is called a negative externality; negative externalities occur when a
decision or activity imposes costs on anyone that is not involved in the making of the decision, that is
if a decision imposes any kind of external cost, which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the government gets involved and taxes goods and services, it raises revenue for the
government, decreases the quantity of goods produced and consumed and therefore, both consumers
and the producer of the good will pay, splitting the costs of the tax and leveling up with society s.
Fees and regulations are similar to taxes. The government charge all firms the same fee and to set the
same standard for all firms. This will achieve the same level of emission reduction at a lower cost for
all firms and firms will have an incentive to reduce their emissions.
There are also solutions to a positive externality. That is to get the decision maker to internalize the
external effect. The difference with this and the negative externality is that with the negative
externality they would have to try to get the decision maker to see higher costs and with the positive
externality the government needs to somehow make the decision more appealing to the private
decision maker.
A great example of this is getting a degree; it might not be as important or beneficial to you to get a
certain degree but the benefits that you could give the society with that degree can be significant, so
the government creates scholarships and incentives to motivate you and make it easier for you to get
an education and ultimately be part of the working society.
There are 3 ways of target the allocation problem of externalities, I talked about regulations,

The Philosopher King
If the choice is between a blind person and a sharp sighted one, isn t it clear which one we ll need?
(Plato 203). The image of the philosopher king was thoroughly described in Plato s Republic, but the
perfect ruler or philosopher king has transformed throughout history and are influenced by historical
events. First, the description of a perfect ruler in an ideal society in Plato s Republic will be the first
comparison and the basis of a philosopher king. Second, Marcus Aurelius, who was described as the
first philosopher king wrote Meditations and it expresses his own thoughts and beliefs which can
ultimately reflect his actions. Lastly, Notker s account of Charlemagne can be used to examine a king
who may not always be recognized as a philosopher king, but Charlemagne is described as a great
ruler who valued learning and philosophy. These three examples are from different time periods and
so their perception and lifestyles are different in some aspects. Likewise, all three accounts are from
different viewpoints because the Republic is not examining one specific person, but an ideal
individual. Marcus Aurelius wrote about himself and his beliefs and values are examined to determine
philosopher king characteristics. Lastly, Notker s writing is a secondary source and Notker did not
know Charlemagne personally. Therefore, Notker s account is praising a king who he did not know,
but Charlemagne is remembered as an ideal ruler and Notker lists Charlemagne s accomplishments

Frost-Pre-Depth
Frost depth is the depth that the groundwater in soil is expected to freeze. The frost depth differ
depends on the climate conditions of that area, the heat transfer properties of the soil and adjacent
materials, and on nearby heat sources. The building code takes frost depth into account of the
calculation because of frost heaving that can damage buildings by moving the foundation. it is
significant that the footings of buildings must be installed in the ground below the frost depth. If the
underground portions of the supporting structure are above the frost depth, the pressure applied on the
footing will be upward. This could push the footing out of the ground or even responsible for major
structural damage in buildings. So, always confirming

  • 6. The Significance Of The Ten Duel Commandments By Lin-Mel... It s a simple catchy song which always makes a person who knows proper dueling etiquette cringe, especially with the songs before and after adding to the heavy sense of historical inaccuracy. While the intent of the Ten Duel Commandments is to give the modern audience some knowledge on how dueling is done, Lin Mel Miranda has many things wrong within this attempt. He gives a modern viewer an incorrect assumption of the process of proper pistol dueling. The song gives a list of ten things in a specific order, a parody of the Ten Commandments, leading the listener to believe the challenge is first. This is sadly out order and very misleading. The second point is happily a bit more reliable information. You do have a second handle your negotiations, although he left out a few crucial elements. In the description of the duel itself, we have a couple of here and there discrepancies that finish making this song detrimental to the true understanding of historical duels of this era. The Ten Commandments of the Old Testament is well known to almost everyone in the modern American public given most of our founding was on Christian doctrine and traditions. This also ties into the amount of top ten lists that are so popular in American Culture, which has lead to the modern viewer s preconceived notion that something listed as Number 1 is the first and most important thing in the list given. The term word diverge projects the image that the road is separated with the results differ based on the route the speaker chooses. The speaker responds with I could not travel both in line 2 of the poem. The term not in this case elaborates on the fact that the speaker is unable to foresee the outcome of both route. • 17. The Argument On The Theory Of Utilitarianism Mill has the view that there is a general misconception regarding the use of the term Utilitarianism. Most people refer to it when comparing between wrong and right in a restricted manner that is divergent to pleasure. The opponents of utilitarianism often attach everything with the element of pleasure; thus, contributing to denouncing the theory. However, the proponents of the theory of utilitarianism such as Epicurus and Bentham asserted that it was pleasure in itself and the exclusion of pain. Therefore, the morality principle of utility, which is also referred to as the greatest happiness principle maintains that actions are justified to be right when they produce positive results that are associated with happiness. On the contrary, actions are wrong when they are linked to the negative outcome that tends to suppress happiness. Happiness refers to the absence of pain when there is pleasure, while unhappiness is characterized by pain and lack of pleasure. Basing on the theory of utilitarianism, morality is founded on human activities that are aimed to promote happiness and pleasure as well as suppress pain. That is, humans desire the end of an action to be pleasure. Mill talks about the various priorities that are related to pleasure, which human beings possess. Mulan Hayden Ikerd Mr. Wheeler AP Literature 12 April, 2013 Thomas Foster s Themes Traced in Mulan In his book How to Read Literature Like a Professor, Thomas Foster explains many reoccurring themes in literature, and shows how to recognize them and in some instances shows certain works where they occur. By reading this guide to literature, one may gain a deeper understanding of the work itself and of the author s intent in writing it. However, Foster s methods can also be applied to films. A film that contains many of the various themes, models, symbolism, and devices discussed in his book is Walt Disney s Mulan. Mulan is a character type with which people are familiar. Foster discusses this process of association in the chapter Now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Mulan has failed in her encounter with the matchmaker, she goes home and begins singing the marvelous, gripping song called Reflection . She asks, When will my reflection show who I am inside? She realizes that her fair appearance does not reflect her feelings. Singing this song, she washes away her makeup, and gives up on becoming the perfect daughter and bride; it is a baptism. Maybe it would be key to mention that during this song, Mulan sings in a downpour of rain. Just like Foster describes in his book, Mulan is baptized in the rain. Disney movies are not notorious for their violent nature. So, when something violent occurs in a Disney movie, or an individual (or animal in many cases) dies, it must carry some kind of importance. In the chapter of his book More Than It s Gonna Hurt You , Fosters says that there is usually more to violence than just violence. When Mulan is struck by the sword of Shan Yu, many more things happen to her than a fatal wound. She almost meets her demise, and for the first time, the reality of war sets in. Mulan realizes that she is not invincible and grasps the perils of war for the first time. When she receives medical attention for her wound, she is discovered to be a woman. Anaerobic Pond in Wastewater Treatment DEFINITION ANAEROBIC POND Anaerobic ponds are deep treatment ponds that exclude oxygen and encourage the growth of bacteria, which break down the effluent. It is in the anaerobic pond that the effluent begins breaking down in the absence of oxygen anaerobically . The anaerobic pond acts like an uncovered septic tank. Anaerobic bacteria break down the organic matter in the effluent, releasing methane and carbon dioxide. Sludge is deposited on the bottom and a crust forms on the surface as show in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 Operation of the Anaerobic Pond. Anaerobic ponds are commonly 2 5 m deep and receive such a high organic loading (usually gt;100g BOD/m3 d equivalent to gt;3000 kg/ha/d for a depth of 3 m). More recently, Gambrill et al. Higher removal rates are possible with industrial wastes, particularly those containing significant quantities of organic settleable solids. Current spirometers available in the market are expensive and usually cost over $1,000. Due to this high cost, many physicians practicing in developing countries like India, cannot afford spirometry equipment. As a result, millions of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, are unable to be effectively monitored or treated for their disease. Thus, the development of a low cost reliable spirometer would allow these physicians to assess their patient s pulmonary health. All these factors led to the development of a product which addresses cost issues as well as technical accuracy[1] . A computer based miniaturized spirometer system is Designed to be realized which would use a solid state pressure sensor. With some of his texts containing views contradicting the others, it is difficult to contend whether or not the philosopher is a true democrat. Despite many of Machiavelli s seemingly democratic views and ideas, his personal ideology appears to be more of a Republican nature. For republicans, however, justice is administered accordingly with set rules and guidelines, so as not to infringe upon the minority. Machiavelli recognized the ongoing tensions between the few and many, each trying to control the other, but never regarded it as an issue. In Discourses he writes, In every republic there are two different inclinations: that of the people and that of the upper class, and that all the laws which are made in favor of liberty are born of the conflict between the two. (I IV). Here, Machiavelli actually sees this conflict as a source of political stability, necessary for the growth of every Republic. Without tension, that would mean there is no coexistence between regimes and only a single type left to dominate the platform. The existence of a dominant upper class was necessary to keep a Republic in check; otherwise a, democracy could emerge and dominate the political sphere. • 40. Love Should Grow Up Like A Wild Iris In The Fields By... Love Should Grow up Like a Wild Iris in the Fields is an exquisite literary piece that exhumes the pragmatism of love. Griffin s poem is filled with compelling comparisons that display her true feelings on the matter. Even though love can be beautiful, this sentiment is not comparable to an iris in the field. Griffin believes that love is flawed, much like humans. Moreover, love is more closely related to the iris of an eye. Throughout Love Should Grow up Like a Wild Iris in the Fields Susan Griffin provokes her readers to ponder why they consistently enslave themselves with the burden of daily monotony, instead of enjoying the simplicity of love. Griffin uses two metaphors in her poem when describing love, as a flower, as well as the iris of an eye. Her comparisons are as compelling as they are forthright. Using her comparisons, Griffin describes love as predictable, expected and routine. Realistically, love most resembles the iris of an eye, rather than a beautiful flower in the field. Throughout her poem, Griffin makes a concise correlation between love and both irises. In the first verse Griffin begins ... Children are brought up coveting those who seem to possess just that. This author, however, captures the realism of everyday love. Griffin does not describe love as beautiful and spontaneous like the blooming of an iris, but more like everyday chaos that we are encumbered with. In lines 18 20 Griffin expresses that love is shown by an adherence to the mundane. Completing everyday tasks in a repetitive manner, without any desire to break away from the monotony. While there is no doubt that reporting to work day after day and coming home to take care of family is an expression of love, Griffin wonders what prevents love from breaking free of these daily ... • 41. Evolution Of The Modern Era Of Skateboarding Prior to the days of Dogtown, skateboarding was dead. However, as soon as the Dogtown culture came alive, so did the modern era of skateboarding. As a result of surfing, the California drought of the 1970s, and the film work and photography of Craig Stecyk, this once dead sport has risen from the dead for good. It all began in the early 1970s when Dogtown, located in Venice Beach, California was home to a secret surfing cove. This area was constantly populated by pyromaniacs, drug addicts, artists, and of course surfers , but most importantly the Zephyr surf team. This team was known as The mafia of the waves (Peralta, 2002). While surfing on the coast, this team relentlessly practiced new and unique moves on the beachfront. Little did they ... As years went on, the minds and creativity of skaters was bound to evolve. The boys from Dogtown did just that. With reference to my second point, these skaters took advantage of Mother Nature. When the California drought of the 1970s occurred, they made use of the architecture that was not being used. Seaside pools became more than just an empty unusable piece of land built underground, but a bowl for skaters to develop their innovation for the future of the sport (Hayes, 2005). The availability of television time also had an impact on the rise of skate. While the status of skateboarding was taking off, so was television and sport. The 1980s marked the introduction of innumerable network options (Cable s Story, 2015). Not long after in the mid 1990s, the X Games kicked off and included skateboarding as one of its activities. From that point on the skateboarding market continued to flourish as more and more television shows came out about skating, along with the creation of video game such as Tony Hawk s Pro ... • 42. Externalities Micro Economy Externalities Elizabeth Turra Brouwer 11 1175 9/08/201 An Externality is when costs or benefits of certain activities spill or fall into third parties that have nothing to do with the initial situation in hand; its like a side effect or consequence of an activity that affects other parties who did not choose to incur that cost or benefit. Like you can see there can be either costs, or benefits that affect those third parties. When it is a cost that is imposed on third parties, it is called a negative externality; negative externalities occur when a decision or activity imposes costs on anyone that is not involved in the making of the decision, that is if a decision imposes any kind of external cost, which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the government gets involved and taxes goods and services, it raises revenue for the government, decreases the quantity of goods produced and consumed and therefore, both consumers and the producer of the good will pay, splitting the costs of the tax and leveling up with society s. Fees and regulations are similar to taxes. The government charge all firms the same fee and to set the same standard for all firms. This will achieve the same level of emission reduction at a lower cost for all firms and firms will have an incentive to reduce their emissions. There are also solutions to a positive externality. That is to get the decision maker to internalize the external effect. The difference with this and the negative externality is that with the negative externality they would have to try to get the decision maker to see higher costs and with the positive externality the government needs to somehow make the decision more appealing to the private decision maker. A great example of this is getting a degree; it might not be as important or beneficial to you to get a certain degree but the benefits that you could give the society with that degree can be significant, so the government creates scholarships and incentives to motivate you and make it easier for you to get an education and ultimately be part of the working society. There are 3 ways of target the allocation problem of externalities, I talked about regulations,

  • 44. The Philosopher King If the choice is between a blind person and a sharp sighted one, isn t it clear which one we ll need? (Plato 203). The image of the philosopher king was thoroughly described in Plato s Republic, but the perfect ruler or philosopher king has transformed throughout history and are influenced by historical events. First, the description of a perfect ruler in an ideal society in Plato s Republic will be the first comparison and the basis of a philosopher king. Second, Marcus Aurelius, who was described as the first philosopher king wrote Meditations and it expresses his own thoughts and beliefs which can ultimately reflect his actions. Lastly, Notker s account of Charlemagne can be used to examine a king who may not always be recognized as a philosopher king, but Charlemagne is described as a great ruler who valued learning and philosophy. These three examples are from different time periods and so their perception and lifestyles are different in some aspects. Likewise, all three accounts are from different viewpoints because the Republic is not examining one specific person, but an ideal individual. Marcus Aurelius wrote about himself and his beliefs and values are examined to determine philosopher king characteristics. Lastly, Notker s writing is a secondary source and Notker did not know Charlemagne personally. Therefore, Notker s account is praising a king who he did not know, but Charlemagne is remembered as an ideal ruler and Notker lists Charlemagne s accomplishments and ... • 46. Frost-Pre-Depth Frost depth is the depth that the groundwater in soil is expected to freeze. The frost depth differ depends on the climate conditions of that area, the heat transfer properties of the soil and adjacent materials, and on nearby heat sources. The building code takes frost depth into account of the calculation because of frost heaving that can damage buildings by moving the foundation. it is significant that the footings of buildings must be installed in the ground below the frost depth. If the underground portions of the supporting structure are above the frost depth, the pressure applied on the footing will be upward. This could push the footing out of the ground or even responsible for major structural damage in buildings. So, always confirming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
