Analysis Of Budgets Lie At The Core Of Every Business...
Introduction Budgets lie at the core of every business practice. The tools are the major evaluators of
managerial effectiveness and overall organizational performance. Businesses can achieve effective
control and planning through the application of the right budgeting approaches in financial and
accounting activities. Nonetheless, these benefits can only be realized if the managers of a company
use the most effective models that take into account all relevant factors, which influence a firm s
budget. An inefficient method automatically leads to attainment of poor results. In this light,
practitioners in the financial and accounting sectors evaluate different budgeting techniques in terms
of efficiency, flexibility, accurate results, and ease of use. One of the approaches that attract immense
criticism in respect to these considerations is the traditional budgeting approach. It is, therefore,
essential to look into the reasons as to why the model has been criticized as a rigid method that should
be eliminated (Zeller Metzger 2013). Weaknesses of Traditional Budgeting Traditional budgeting
model is not a new concept in business practice. Its application goes beyond the contemporary
practices that have seen the development of new techniques. The model dates back to the onset of
1920s when the managers of the industrial revolution realized the need to control costs and the cash
flows of a firm. Horvath and Sauter (2004) define the model as a quantitative expression of a

King Lear Evil Essay
First of all, the evil characters within the play such as Goneril, Regan, and Oswald got the justice they
deserved. Both of these girls lied and treated those around them cruelly throughout the entirety of the
play. They lied to their father about how much they loved him confessing things like, Sir, I do love
you more than words can wield the matter, / Dearer than eyesight, space, and liberty, / Beyond what
can be valued (I. i. 55 57) just to turn on him once they got the land they wanted. By the end of the
play, they practically became King Lear s enemies as they were plotting to have him killed. For lying
to their father and attempting to kill the man who brought them up and gave them everything they

Albany was one of the good men who doubted the plans of killing King Lear and wanted the best for
the village. But, Goneril saw this as cowardly and would spit out awful things to him like, Milk
livered man / That bear st a cheek for blows, a head for wrongs / Who hast not in thy brows an eye
discerning/ Thine honor from thy suffering (IV. ii. 52 54). Goneril even turned her back completely on
Albany and plotted to kill him so that she could be with Edmund. So, for being disrespectful and
turning their backs on their husbands who were good men, Goneril and Albany deserved to die and
therefore deserved the justice served to them. The final evil character that deserved the fate amongst
him was Oswald. Oswald is Goneril s servant and will do whatever she says, even if the task is
immoral. For example, Goneril asks him to be blatantly rude to Lear and he does so without a second
thought. Oswald also sought out to find Gloucester so that he can kill him and receive a reward. This
proves that he has no morals because he will kill an innocent man if he gets something in return for
doing so. Oswald s loose morals and blind following of his master are what made him rightfully

Essay on Consequences of Conformity in The Chocolate War
Consequences of Conformity in The Chocolate War
Throughout Robert Cormier s The Chocolate War, the theme of the consequences of conformity, or
nonconformity, is expressed. Although The Chocolate War was first published in 1974, this theme still
pertains to the youth of today. This novel is timeless because teenagers will always face the choice of
whether to be true to themselves, or to conform to what other s expect of them. In response to this
theme, David Peck states, what this idea becomes is the concept of being true to oneself and standing
up to the evil that one perceives in the world (Peck 2). Furthermore, this idea is conveyed when Jerry
refuses to participate in his school s chocolate sale. At first he refuses to ... Show more content on

On the football field, he was struck from behind, a vicious blow to the kidneys, sickening in its
impact. His knees caved in and he sank to the ground again (Cormier 189). Peck believes that the only
character that is true to himself is Jerry but at a terrible price (Peck 2). Moreover, the constant theme
of being true to one s self that is expressed in The Chocolate War is not displayed in a positive way. It
can almost be seen as depressing. Throughout the entire novel, all of Jerry s attempts at being a
nonconformist are met with brutal attacks. Even if the attacks were not physical, they were
emotionally brutal. On the contrary, one can also look at Jerry s effort to conform. When he first
refused to sell the chocolates, it was because of his assignment. He did not want to upset the Vigils. In
return, this upset Brother Leon. In conclusion, this novel does not end on a positive note. Jerry is
defeated. He feels that all of his efforts were useless, and there is no way to stay true to one s self if
that means defying conformity. After his defeat, he tells his friend Goober not to disturb the universe
(Cormier 259). By this, he means that he regrets not conforming because of all the trouble it cause
him. Although the theme of the consequences of nonconformity is not displayed in a positive way, the
reader should still be able to find the

Genealogy Of Morals By Nietzsche
Section 14 in Essay 2 of Nietzsche s Genealogy of Morals , contains rich insight, mainly about
punishment. Punishment is suppose to be the way to awaken the feeling of guilt in someone that has
done some wrong. However, punishment does not succeed in instilling bad conscience, or the sense of
guilt, on the guilty person. When someone is punished, they do not receive a feeling of guilt. It can
lead to two opposite things; either they are are able to become stronger and tougher and take the
punishment, or they have their vitality destroyed and become dehumanized. Nietzsche suggests that
when the person who is guilty sees the person that he wronged cast these acts of punishment on him
out of pleasure, he is blinded by the awful things that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also known as the creditor and debtor relationship and is thought to be the origin of traditional
justice. This passage as soon I read it really got me engaged. I felt like this was one of the sections I
was able to truly relate to, and apply to my own life. Immediately I began to think about some of the
stories my parents have shared about how my parents were punished when they were children. Now
back in the 1960 s when they were kids, it was okay for their parents to smack them. It was just
normal in society back then. They both agreed that, The physical discipline they received did not make
them feel guilty about what they did. Instead, it made them scared to do it again. This goes along with
what Nietzsche said. My parents stopped talking back and fighting with their siblings because they
were scared of how their parents would punish them, they did not stop because they felt bad about it.
Their vitality was broken down. I completely agree with it too. When I was a child I got it way easier
than my parents did. When I got punished I was told to go in my room and not able to have any
electronics. They would always tell me, Think about what you did. This was a method of theirs that
truly was effective. As the time went by I would continuously think about how much trouble I caused
my parents no matter how little the cause of my

Prohibition Of The Fourteenth Amendment Essay
Introduction: 21st Amendment Following the passage of the 18th Amendment in 1919, which
outlawed the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of alcohol, the United States entered a period of
time now known as Prohibition (U.S. Const. amend. XVIII). Immediately following the passage of the
18th Amendment, consumption of alcohol, alcohol related injuries, and crime decreased (Schaeffer,
2011, p. 402). However, it did not take long for the government to realize that Prohibition came with
many unintended consequences. According to Schaeffer (2011), state and local governments were ill
prepared to handle the vast responsibilities of enforcing the law, which led to increased organized
crime, corruption, and the failure of the law as a whole. 73% of Americans favored the repeal of the
18th Amendment in its entirety by the time the 21st Amendment was passed (Schaeffer, 2011, p. 408).
The 21st Amendment was finally ratified in 1933 effectively ending prohibition. Aside from repealing
the 18th Amendment, it also granted the states the right to regulate alcohol within their own borders
and set a time limit for ratification of the law (U.S. Const. amend. XXI). Overall, this amendment
decreased the powers of the federal government by delegating the authority over alcohol to the states.
In relation to the 21st Amendment, it shows several important aspects of public administration. First, it
highlights some of the public values that are integral to being an American citizen. According

Antigone By Sophocles Antigone
In Sophocles, Antigone begins with the stages of grief as Antigone mourns the loss of her two
brothers, Polyneikes and Eteokles, who die simultaneously in face to face combat in Thebes. Eteokles
dies with honor fighting for the Thebesians and is honored with rituals and a proper burial. The body
of Polyneikes, who attempted to burn the city of Thebes, is left for the dogs and birds to savage.
Thesbesian s law forbids anyone giving a traitor, like Polyneikes, a proper burial, for that itself is a
crime punishable by death. Antigone is angered that Polyneikes is not going to receive a proper burial
and is determined that she must honor him even if it means the end of her life. Antigone alone
attempts to bury her brother, but is captured and imprisoned, at which point she decides to form a
noose around her neck and end her life. Sophocles leaves the reader to question whether Antigone s
suicide is an act of heroism, a stand for the citizens of Thebes, or a selfish way of coping with
personal trauma. Antigone sought assistance in burying her brother from her only family member
alive, her sister, Ismene, who tries to reason with her. Ismene proclaims, Remember, we re women.
How can we fight men? They re stronger (Sophocles 749). The physical statures of neither Polyneikes
nor Antigone were not ever mentioned, but in general men typically weigh more and have a larger
build than women. We have to assume that she doesn t want to elicit help from others because the risk

The effects of green fluorescent protein on E. coli bacteria
Introduction:
Genetic transformation occurs when genes are inserted into another gene to change the organism s
trait (Weedman2016). In this experiment, we proceeded to transform the E. coli bacteria with a gene
that contained green fluorescent protein. The green fluorescent protein is used in experiments because
it beams a green color under a UV light (Chalfie2008). Typically, it is used to mark the expression of
genes, which is why it serves as the symbol for all gene expressions (Tsien1998). In the experiment,
we will be using pGLO as the organisms that will transmit the disease, otherwise known as a vector.

Key Aspects Of Dog Grooming
Everyone cares about their dogs, and some people care so much that they treat their dogs like family.
Taking care of their dog and making sure he/she is giving the proper care is the most important thing
to a veterinary/vet. tech./assistant. Throughout this text one will begin to learn and note the key
aspects of dog grooming, along with that, they will be able to apply them to their skills. So why not
take this knowledge and make someone s dog s vet trip more of a relaxing spa day.
Before one can begin any type of grooming, applying for and getting the job at a vet, animal hospital,
etc. is a must. How can that be achieved? Well it s quite simple really, I m going to let you in on a few
key secrets that can...and will help you land the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At most vets or animal clinics there are small and large dogs, because of the size differences the small
and large dogs the grooming techniques differ. But lets hold on for a second. Before we even begin to
groom the dogs one should get to know the dog better. Getting to know the dog (even if it s for only a
few minutes) can help the grooming process go ten times smoother, because it allows not only you to
get use to the dog but the dog gets use to you. Now that you two are familiar with one another the real
grooming process can begin. When you are going to wash the dog know that there are some key points
to remember. Though the dog has familiarized themselves with you, they still may not want a bath. At
all cost do not force the dog to be bathed, in the end you are only going to stress out the dog and a
stress dog creates an even more frustrated groomer. The point was clearly stated in the quote The
reality is that few dogs were born loving baths, or even water. Resistance toward getting a bath can
stem from inexperience or a previous bathing debacle. Regardless of the reason, a calm demeanor and
gentle persistence are essential to keeping your pooch calm in the bathtub. SSS It gives a clear view
and why the dog may feel this way and how to correct it for a successful grooming. Once you have
gotten the dog to relax and stay calm you are ready to start. This first step is optional and mostly used
for dogs who have long fur, before applying any water grab a brush and brush through the fur, this
technique helps to lessen the amount of tangles the dog could have had or will have by the end of the
bath. Now you can go ahead to apply water all over the dog s body to get the fur nice and soaked.
After the dog has been soaked next is the shampoo, most vets use shampoos that help kill fleas, ticks,
and other vermin. Bring the shampoo to a lather and get it all over the dog,

Utilitarianism in Government
In its political philosophy utilitarianism provides an alternative to theories of natural law and the
social contract by basing the authority of government and the sanctity of individual rights upon their
utility, or measure of happiness gained. As an egalitarian doctrine, where everyone s happiness counts
equally, the rational, relatively straightforward nature of utilitarianism offers an attractive model for
democratic government. It offers practical methods for deciding the morally right course of action ...an
action is right as it tends to promote happiness, wrong as it tends to diminish it, for the party whose
interests are in question (Bentham, 1780). To discover what we should do in a given situation, we

One major point of contention, however, is that it is often difficult, if not impossible, to measure and
compare the values of certain benefits and costs. How does one assign value to human life, or time, or
artistic pleasures such as literature and music? Mill s response was to introduce variables to pleasure.
While Bentham concentrated on quantity (the pleasure s duration, intensity, etc), Mill stressed quality.
Adding the feature of quality to pleasure differentiates higher , intellectual pleasures from common,
physical ones. He argues in his famous quote It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig
satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. And if the fool, or the pig, are of a
different opinion, it is only because they only know their own side of the question . This reasoning is
not very satisfactory if we consider how subjective (and elitist) it can be. Who is to determine which
activities are more high brow or low brow, and what makes a competent judge? Mill states it should be
person who has experience of the activities in question, but a key aspect of utilitarianism it the
requirement of making these judgements impartially and impersonally. With the diversity of this world
it is highly unlikely that the tastes and preferences will all align in accord. Even if we attempt to make
our decisions based on how others would be affected, it is impossible for us to know or measure the

Hybrid Vs. Electric Cars
Hybrid vs. Electric
When hearing the words gas, hybrid and electric, people automatically think of automobiles.. [this is a
very clunky opening rewrite it I think people do know those are the three main types of cars...]
People buy hybrid or electric cars because they either want to save money on gas or they want to be
able to help the environment with their vehicles. One of the most popular hybrid vehicles in the
United States is the Toyota Prius, which, compared to a normal gas powered car, has great mileage
and reduced fuel emissions. The popularity of the Tesla Model S a fully electrically powered car has
recently skyrocketed due to the increase in gas prices. Hybrid technology powered cars, such as the
Toyota Prius, are better for the environment than fully electric powered vehicles, such as Tesla s
Model S, because of the emissions created by the electricity that powers the vehicle.
The gas powered vehicle has been a problem for the environment since the day it was created. These
vehicles emit greenhouse gasses that are detrimental towards the environment. Nearly one fifth of the
United States total fuel emissions come from gas powered cars. In 2012 transportation contributed
with 28% of total greenhouse emissions in the United States. One of the greenhouse gasses that cars
emit is Carbon Dioxide. What greenhouse gases including Carbon Dioxide do is trap heat in the Earth
s atmosphere leading to the atmospheric temperature rising. Global warming causes disastrous

An Ethical Dilemma Essay
According to Viren Swami, a professor at the University of Westminster, animal testing, or animal
research, refers to the use of animals in experiments within academic, research, or commercial
establishments (Christopher, 269). Sounds simple enough, but Swami does not mention how this
testing affects the animals or why this is such a controversial issue among the public. M.J. Prescott,
from the National Center for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animal Research, makes
a very good point when he says that:
Many people, including from within the scientific community, consider that the use of NHPs

Are we, human beings, morally justified in causing animals pain, suffering, distress and/or lasting
harm in research aimed at alleviating or preventing human suffering, or furthering scientific
knowledge? (Prescott, 12) Some people might answer this question by saying that it depends on what
kind of research is being done. Others might say that the use of animals for human benefit is morally
unacceptable. Prescott makes another great point about the use of any animal for medical research
when he says, ...it is difficult for us, as human beings, to judge capacities for suffering in, or to
empathize with, species who are evolutionarily different from us... (15). This answers his previously
posed question about whether or not humans are justified to cause pain to animals by saying that
humans cannot accurately judge how much pain an animal is in that is being used for medical
research. When it comes to the use of NHPs and how they are treated after being used for medical
research, the majority of NHPs used in experiments are euthanized, either because their tissues are
required as part of the experiment or on compassionate grounds to alleviate unnecessary suffering
(Prescott, 15). This seems humane enough, but the animals being used would not normally have gone
through these medically induced situations in the wild, so their death would be premature when
compared to NHPs that live in the wild. There has been an increase in the

The Mongol Empire Under Genghis Khan
The Mongol Empire under Genghis Khan was a uniquely mobile yet centralizing force. They changed
Asia s circulatory system in a number of ways: Methods of getting resources were diverted, routine
and technologies for traveling were developed, and the idea of boundaries of countries started to form.
Therefore, the Mongol Empire altered Asia from a traditional world to a modern world. Although
Genghis Khan started his empire from a tribe, as a thoroughly modern man , he shaped the modern
world of commerce, communication, and large secular states more than any other individual.
(Weatherford:267) In this essay, I agree with Weatherford s idea for I would argue that the modernized

These examples of trade showed that people sold, bought, bartered on the continent of Asia.
Genghis Khan also inherited trading as he was ruling his empire, he took the disjointed and
languorous trading towns along the Silk Route and organized them into history s largest free trade
zone. (Weatherford:19) But more importantly, due to the hostile environment, the Mongols also
created another way of getting resources from fighting and kidnapping. Temujin s mother was
originally the wife of the Merkit tribe, however, Temujin s father kidnapped her from Merkit.
Therefore, after Temujin grew up, the Merkit tribe kidnapped Borte for revenge. When Temujin
decided to get his wife back from the Merkit by using his violence, he took the first step of becoming
the greatest conqueror in the history. Similarly, after the rising of Mongol empire, Genghis Khan
reorganized his military. He divided tribes into different armies and point his generals to lead every
specific military. In this way, people are no longer fighting as tribes and obeying their patriarch;
instead, they will all admit Genghis Khan is their only emperor and the only one they are fighting for.
With this well regulated military, the Mongols first conquer a piece of land, then they tax the people
on that pieces of land; otherwise, these local people will be killed. After collecting all the taxes and
fees from the local government , the Mongol Empire used this money to buy their horses and

Crimes And Crimes Of Children
Crimes can be committed by everyone. The age of criminals have decreased as the crime committed
increased in violence through time. Innocent lives are often lost in acts of violence, such as what had
happened at Columbine. Children who commit malicious crimes can either be tried as a child or an
adult. Children tried in the juvenile court systems are able to get out of jail around or before they turn
21. Juvenile courts are meant to rehabilitate children who are said to be too young to understand their
actions. Adults who commit the same crime as children are believed to be fully aware of their actions
and the repercussions. If a child is tried as an adult, then the child can be given a longer sentence.
Children who commit serious crimes should be tried as adults. With time, the severity of the crimes
committed by children have been seen to be worse. Juvenile criminals, are still regarded by the law as
children first criminals second (Collier 1). The juvenile court was originally created to help
rehabilitate children who commit crimes such as stealing. Now the juvenile court can be seen
harboring criminal who were well aware of the vicious acts he or she have done such as a murderer.
Statistics show that, crimes committed by juveniles have increased by 60 percent since 1984 (Collier

prevention of crimes. Government statistics show that, Since 1965, the number of

Introduction
Bismarck and Hitler were both extremely influential leaders in history who had strong impacts on
politics in Germany. They both dramatically changed the future of Germany and had lasting impacts
that are still evident in today s world. They are both prominent figures in history that have left a
significant mark on it especially with their political tactics. Bismarck was an important politician in
the mid to late 1800s who was at the head of German affairs. He instigated a series of wars to unify
the German states into one nation. Hitler was also an influential politician who helped to lead
Germany out of a economic depression but also lead them into a disastrous world war. They used their
political maneuvers and tactics to outsmart

Role Of Homeobox Geness
Introduction The expression of homeobox (or HOX) genes is essential for the development of the
normal embryo. These genes encode proteins that act as transcription factors called homeoproteins
which regulate development of the embryo across the anterior posterior (AP) axis. Homeoproteins are
the ultimate regulators of development; however mutations in the homeobox genes specifically
HOXC10 are oncogenic (by gain of function mutations) and aid in the proliferation of certain cancer
types and developmental disorders. Elucidation of HOXC10, its function in embryonic development at
the molecular level, and characteristics shared among the function(s) of its paralogues should allow
for better understanding of HOXC10 s role primarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In embryonic development spatial patterning along with HOX gene expression indicates the order of
paralogues within the cluster according to 3 distinct aspects: (1.) spatial collinearity indicates the
position of a HOX gene or cluster of genes from 3 to 5 which induces embryonic development along
the AP axis; (2.) temporal collinearity indicates the position of a HOX gene or cluster of genes from 3
to 5 that coordinates HOX gene expression during development; and (3.) posterior prevalence HOX
genes that reside closer to 5 areas of the cluster will possess a dominant phenotype compared to those
that reside closer to 3 areas of the cluster. The nature of these aspects provides further insight into the
complex nature of gene expression, regulation, and the basis of morphogenesis. Given that there are 4
paralogous clusters these actions of collinearity suggest some form of redundancy in HOX gene
function (Shah, N paper).
The role of HOXC10 in development: Homeodomain containing gene 10 (HOXC10) belongs to the
HOXC gene cluster that resides on chromosome 12 (ACAMPORA_HUMAN HOX FAMILY).
Expression of the gene leads to the production of a transcription factor that possesses a helix turn helix
motif and functions as either a monomer or heterodimer containing a unique three amino acid loop
extensions called TALE. TALE functions as a co factor and promotes embryonic development and
tumorigenesis. Nonetheless common TALE domains

Shankman s View Of War
Shankman discusses the view of the war, and the sinking of the Maine, from the perspective of the
Methodist church. Throughout the church there was varying opinions of the explosion and the war
itself. Some people believed that the war would be necessary, while others believed there was no need
for a war. IN an editorial from a New York Methodist newspaper in April 1898: Should we now go to
war, insisted the Syracuse Northern Christian Advocate, our cause will be just, and Methodism will be
ready to do its full duty. Every Methodist preacher will be a recruiting officer (Shankman, 1973).
However, in the south, the Southern Christian Advocate pushed for people to help send aid to the
Cubans that are refugees and on the island; some groups even set up soup kitchens and churches
donated some money as charity. These opinions helped spread the divide after the attack on the Maine:
Generally, the Methodist press advised that rash accusations were unjust and foolish. The Nashville
Christian Advocate suspected that the explosion had been the work of a misguided Spaniard or
resulted from a fire on the Maine, and it thought that all premature judgments on the cause of the
sinking did more harm than good. (Shankman, 1973)
That view did not last long, by April 14 it was believed that the sinking of the USS Maine was not a
mere accident, The Atlanta Wesleyan Christian Advocate first believed that Spanish perfidy had
caused the catastrophe but later decided some hotheads

The Effect Of Proper Methods Of Teaching Computer Science
MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL COMPUTER SCIENCE
Thomas Trunko
Missouri University of Science and Technology
Department of Computer Science
Abstract
This research is focused on the effects and proper methods of teaching Computer Science (CS) topics
to students below the undergraduate level, mostly students in middle or high school. Most middle and
high schools in the world today do not include CS courses into their curriculum. There have been
many researchers looking into the benefits of learning CS, such as teaching students to work together
as a group, among other skills. Most of the research used in this study will be academic journals and
articles focused around the topic of teaching students the beginner ideas of CS, such as logic and
programming. These articles are best for this topic since the research is looking into the best methods
of teaching, and the benefits of teaching the topics to students at a younger age. These articles will be
analyzed by looking at possible solutions and benefits to implementing CS courses into a middle and
high school setting. The results include how through the course of learning about CS most students
were able to learn the skills of teamwork, problem solving, and creativity. The results lead to the
conclusion that schools should implement these courses to help advance technology in many ways,
including better computers, phones, and security. Along with advancing technology, this also will help
students along another path that

Components Of A Food ( Glanz Et Al
Flavour is the most important attribute that determines the acceptance and desirability of a food
(Glanz et al., 1998). Flavours are generally added to foods to enhance palatability, replace flavour loss
during processing and/or storage, and to impart added flavour to analogue foods. Hydrolysates of
proteins generated by acid, enzymes or fermentation have a long history of use as taste enhancing and
savoury flavouring materials in the food industry. Besides being important precursors in thermal
process flavourings, protein hydrolysates are widely used in food products as flavouring ingredients in
their own right. Traditional European cuisine often incorporates hydrolysates of soy, wheat, meat and
fish for the preparation of soups and gravies, while fermented seasonings such as soy sauce, soybean
paste and fish sauce are prevalent in East Asian cuisine (Neklyudov et al., 2000).
Hydrolysed vegetable protein (HVP) is a savoury flavouring agent used to impart authentic bouillon
like characteristics and round off the taste of culinary preparations and ready to cook products
(Aaslyng et al., 1999). Unlike fermented seasonings, HVP is produced by acid and enzymatic
hydrolyses. The raw material, nature of hydrolysis and subsequent refinement determine individual
flavour characteristics of hydrolysates. Degradation products may also function as flavour precursors
in the Maillard reaction occurring during hydrolysis. Common plant protein sources include wheat,
soy, maize, rice and

Magical Beasts By Harry Potter

Magical Beasts Throughout the series of Harry Potter, many creatures appear in the books and put into
greater detail in the movies. Were these famous magical creatures made up or compared to something
similar in mythology and folklore? There are many famous creatures throughout the story that add
curiosity to one?s mind when first reading about one. The feeling one may get is to be able to see what
this creature is capable of doing in comparison to others. In each book and movie, there is usually a
creature that Harry, Ron, and Hermione have to overcome, such as the Basilisk in the second movie.
The creatures from Harry Potter that are portrayed in folklore are similar in many ways, yet different
in others. Some creatures were actually made up, but the most known ones, such as Fluffy and
Fawkes, are actually compared to other similar creatures. Most of these magical creatures or
sometimes referred to as ?beasts?, come from Greek and Roman mythology as well as European
mythology. The characteristics from some of the folklore creature were kept the same while others
were completely changed. One of the most popular Harry Potter creatures is Fluffy, the three headed
dog. The creation of Fluffy was influenced by a creature in Greek mythology known as Cerberus.
Cerberus was a three headed beast who guarded the underworld for Hades while Fluffy was a three
headed dog that guarded a trap door that led to the philosopher?s

The Montgomery Bus
December 1, 1955 was a day that I will never forget because it marks the anniversary of the
Montgomery bus incident. On that date, I had gotten on a city bus to head home after a long day
working at the tailor shop, and I was later arrested. At this point, my mind was focused on why
equality is deserved and how I should defend my spot on the bus. I had been sitting in a seat in the
back half of the bus where I was supposed to go. During a certain point in the ride home, there had
been an excess amount of people getting on compared to the usual 5 10 passengers. Therefore, some
of us blacks had been told to give up our seats to the white people who deserved it more. Me, being
African American was one of the lucky ones who was told to let ... Show more content on

It was a normal day, and I was at work until I had to go. Then everything took a turn once I had sat
down on the bus and was asked to give up my seat to a more deserving person than I. The way I
reacted was by deciding that standing up for myself was the best way to go. So, I stayed on the bus
until the bus driver had called the police to come and get me. They eventually had shown up to where
I was on the bus and handcuffed me, and I was then arrested sitting in a cop car. At the start of the day,
I had foreseen a nice, normal day without having big problems to worry about such as this one. As
soon as this had all happened, and I was arrested and put in jail, my whole day was turned around.
This being said, jail was a very different experience compared to everyday normal routines. It was so
isolated, and you were put in a cell with very little places to sit or things to do. Jail was not a place I
would call nice, but once you re there, you start to think about what you did to end up there in the first
place. Even with those thoughts, I still had the gut feeling, wondering why segregation was a rule that
had to be made. The idea of separating people for the color of their skin was just a way of
discriminating race against people. Many African Americans were living in poverty and ended up in
desperate need for simple, everyday items because they weren t allowed to have good jobs to pay for
those costs. I myself grew up in a family where everyone, no matter what the age, as long as you could
walk and talk, had to work a job to earn money. There were times in my life, when my family and I
barely had enough to keep our house. This just goes to show that everyone matters, and nobody should

Native Americans And Africans In The European And Spanish...
The Calamity of Native Americans and Africans in the European and Spanish Colonization The
European Colonization of the Americas is described as the foundation and settlement of the Americas
by different European powers. Although the European Colonization of the Americas can be portrayed
as a success. Nevertheless, it is a calamity because many Native Americans were tortured or killed
with military force, and African individuals were enslaved and killed to create a new world . Not only
did the colonist kill Native Indians and Africans, but also took their freedom and religion away. When
the Spanish colonist landed on the shore of the Americas, military force was used to conquer and
establish land. Bartolomé de las Casas, a Spanish missionary and historian, advocated and exposed the
cruelty against Native Americans. Las Casas main goal was to persuade the Spanish to stop the torture
of indigenous people. In the document, A Brief Account of the Destruction of the Indies, Las Casas
explains, Those that arriv d at these Islands from the remotest parts of Spain, and who pride
themselves in the Name of Christians, steer d Two courses principally, in order to the Exptirpation,
and Exterminting of this People from the face of the Earth (A Brief Account of the Destruction of the

Summary Of Neale s Shadow Of Heaven
Limerick s Shadow of Heaven and Davis Dead West provided two totally distinctive perspectives of
the west. Limerick depicts the west as a spot where immaculateness of air, rousing scenes, and general
life and generosity took debilitated men back to their full health. West was extremely mainstream
without a doubt: famous as a solution for social and individual discontent and well known as a private
haven for prosperous displaced people from the East. With the broadcast of Western adventures in
films and literatures, the overwhelming outdoor experience west provided connected with the New
West appeared to guarantee slow aging and an augmentation of life itself. The Cold War had given the

story, the crew would soon realize that the boat was coming into contact with a storm that causes the
boat to sink. The second scene introduces us to former Duke of Milan, Prospero, and his daughter
Miranda. Prospero reveals his part in creating the storm with his magical powers to Miranda. He made
sure that no one on the ship was hurt. conspired then tells his Miranda that his brother/her uncle
current Duke of Milan, Antonio, conspired with Alonso to take over his position as Duke and banish
him and his daughter to the sea. Thus the reason why the barren land is now their home. He then puts

Chicago Manual Style Essay
Based on the CMS paper sample on page 84 of the text, I would say that a few of the differences
between Chicago Manual Style and MLA format are the use of a title page, the use of marginal
annotations, and the format of the citations. While MLA format is typically used for people writing in
the humanities fields, Chicago Manual Style is mainly written in the history field. In this sample, a
title page is used. In MLA format a title page is not required, though, it can sometimes be included if
requested. MLA format included in text citations, not marginal annotations. Lastly, the citation format
of the CMS format is unique, making some citations very long and some very short.
When comparing the CMS format in the paper to my knowledge of the APA format, I feel that the
differences are mostly found in the way that the citations are formatted. To start off, APA format, as
discussed in previous forums, is mainly used in the social science fields. In the CMS paper, the
specific page range from which the writer got their information from is given, while in the book s

As seen in the sample paper, the use of numbered citations allows reader to focus in on the actual
content of the paper, and avoids the constant reuse of the source creator s last name and page number.
While this is similar to the CSE format, the CMS format differs from CSE by not directing their
writing towards a very specific audience. The CSE sample paper used very high level diction, which
implied that they expected their readers to already have an idea of what the paper s topic was about.
The CMS sample paper uses more lower level diction, which allows for a broader audience to be able
to read and understand the content of the paper. I feel like the less focused audience range and the
strong analysis of the CSE sample paper is its biggest

African American Influence On Cuban Culture
Before the popularization of Son, Cuban music and dance was largely influenced by Europe.
Compositions in the early period closely resemble songs from middle class Europe. These genres
include: the creole, canción and danzón (Moore 17). While these genres were seen as the model of
Cuban expression at the turn of the century, the Afrocuban music known as Son would soon become
(and remain) the paragon of Cuban artistic and cultural expression; the previous genres paled in
comparison in terms of popularity. Fusing African, Indigenous and European elements, Son
exemplified the transculturation that so many of the elites in Cuba were promoting as Cuba s identity;
however, the most prominent elements in Son music originated from Africa, which did ... Show more

There are two main reasons for this persistence: the brutish and inhumane practices from Spanish and
Portuguese slave traders, and the spiritual concept of ori practiced by the Yoruba. Before the abolition
of slavery in 1886, the Spanish and Portuguese s philosophy was to work their slaves to death for four
to five years, before bringing in a new hoard of bodies. Unlike the United States, there was little effort
to integrate slaves into the culture. Because no assimilation took place, African culture was never
replaced or lost in Cuba. Beyond this, the Yoruba people from Africa carried with them the tradition of
Ori. This concept referred one s culture residing in the head or consciousness, and therefore unable to

Government Vs Federal Government
George Smith wrote that Thomas Jefferson believed the distribution of power among federal, state,
county, and local agencies was indispensable to America s system of fundamental balances and checks
for the government. (Smith, 2012) Today federal, state, and local governments still play important
roles in the operations of public schools through providing funding, policies, scope and organization
of school systems. Through the years, the federal government has increased their position in
governing public schools, state government works to guide and offer clarification, and local
government is responsible for the day to day affairs.
In Federal Control of Public Schools and the Decline of Community Carl Bankston III discusses the
fact that the US Constitution makes no reference to schools or education. Since there is no direct
mention the Tenth Amendment reserves all the power to be held at the state and to the people. In fact,
federal government had no say in the first public schools, all power was delegated to the state. It wasn
t until after the Civil War that the federal government would become involved with public education.
Then after each war federal involvement would continue to increase. Court cases like Brown vs. The
Board of Education, Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg, and Green vs. County School Board would be
influential in the federal governments control. Even with the added involvement the U.S. Department
of Education states that the Federal contribution

IRS Data Warehouse Improvements 1. Why is it so difficult for the IRS to analyze the taxpayer data it
had collected? The very complex process of assessing taxpayer data had increasingly been
compounded by the sheer enormity of tax returns and files requiring assessment. The prodigious
nature of this task is only further confounded by the imperative upon the IRS to subject a dense set of
permutations of taxpayer information to scrutiny. Until the installment of the CDW system, the use of
flat file and hierarchy based database systems made complex user queries on these multifarious
permutations of taxpayer information nearly impossible. The result was both that individuals likely to
require audits had been overlooked and that in many cases individuals who are otherwise innocent of
any taxpayer indiscretions had been subjected to these review processes. The large scale of data and
the somewhat obtuse ways of navigating said data had led to an impasse of efficiency. 2. What kind of
challenges did the IRS encounter when implementing its CDW? What management, organization, and
technology issues had to be addressed? In spite of this clear impasse, the case study here observes that
it can be exceptionally difficult to convince a government agency that reformation is required. The
case study describes agencies as being risk averse in this regard. This aversion is only magnified by a
$2 million price tag on the data warehousing implementation and by the costs to labor,

Analysis Of The Movie Mommie Dearest
Psychological disorders are very real and present in many people we come in contact with daily,
however, are very rarely talked about. Learning about these disorders can help us to understand others
and ourselves better by telling us why we do and think the things we do. One effective way that we
can observe and learn about psychological disorders is through movies. Mommie Dearest was directed
by Frank Perry. It is centered around the actress Joan Crawford, who suffered from various
psychological disorders. Joan s daughter, Christina, wrote a book about her mother and her many
problems and it was later turned into a movie. It is very effective to use movie analysis as a way of
learning, especially in psychology, because it provides a great way to observe without distractions.
When you re looking at disorders, it s difficult to find a person who has many of these disorders and
will allow you to observe them. Psychological disorders can be split into two major groups,
personality disorders and mood disorders. Personality disorders are patterns of traits that can get in the
way of your social or work life and may interrupt the individual s normal lifestyle. Mood disorders are
inconsistent and unreliable changes in mood by the affected individual. (Rathus, 1998). With all of this
being said, it brings me to my point that I will be talking about for the rest of this essay. Joan
Crawford demonstrates the personality disorders of histrionic, narcissism, and OCPD. When it comes
to mood disorders, Joan demonstrates bipolar disorder. First, I will be talking about histrionic. People
who are histrionic are often very emotional and seek constant attention. (Psychology Today, 2017).
The cause of this is unknown but some saw it may have something to do with childhood events and/or
genetics. Symptoms of this are seeking reassurance constantly, being self centered, being very
concerned with physical appearance, and having your opinions be easily influenced by other people.
There are many times in the movie where Joan Crawford showed signs of histrionic. The first example
I will be sharing is at Christina s birthday party. (Mommie Dearest, 1981). It appeared to me that Joan
adopted children just for the attention of it.

Sustainable living is a lifestyle that attempts to reduce an individual s or society s use of the earth s
natural resources and his/her own resources. Practitioners of sustainable living often attempt to reduce
their carbon footprint by altering methods of transportation, energy consumption and diet. Proponents
of sustainable living aim to conduct their lives in ways that are consistent with sustainability, in
natural balance and respectful of humanity s symbiotic relationship with the earth s natural ecology
and cycles. The practice and general philosophy of ecological living is highly interrelated with the

As a result of these industrial farming conditions, today s mounting environmental stresses are further
exacerbated. These stresses include: declining water tables, chemical leaching, chemical runoff, soil
erosion, land degradation, loss in biodiversity, and other ecological concerns.
A more sustainable means of acquiring food is to purchase locally and seasonally. Buying food from
local farmers reduces carbon offsets, caused by long distance food transport, and stimulates the local
economy. Local, small scale farming operations also typically utilize more sustainable methods of
agriculture than conventional industrial farming systems such as decreased tillage, nutrient cycling,
fostered biodiversity and reduced chemical pesticide and fertilizer applications. Adapting a more
regional, seasonally based diet is more sustainable as it entails purchasing less energy and resource
demanding products that naturally grow within a local area and require no long distance transport.
These vegetables and fruits are also grown and harvested within their suitable growing season. Thus,
seasonal food farming does not require energy intensive greenhouse production, extensive irrigation,
plastic packaging and long distance transport from importing non regional foods, and other
environmental stressors. Local, seasonal produce is typically fresher, unprocessed and argued to be
more nutritious. Local produce also contains less to no chemical

Brain Is Highly Metabolic And Important Organ Of The Body
Brain is highly metabolic and important organ of the body. Even though it weighs only 2% body
weight, however, requires disproportionate amount (~20 %) of the total blood flow. Unprecedented
fall in cerebral blood flow (CBF) would quickly lead to unconsciousness and, if sustained for longer
period of time would result in brain damage and death. Therefore, CBF is tightly regulated in the
brain, as it facilitates the delivery of essential substrates required for metabolism and removal of
metabolic by products.
1.1.1 Mechanism regulating CBF
The cerbrovasculature is always under the combined influence of a number of physical and chemical
stimuli that adjust vascular caliber/resistance so as to alter the blood supply to different parts of the
brain (Bayliss, 1902; Lassen, 1959). Autoregulation and metabolic coupling are 2 important
mechanism which regulates the CBF to the brain. Autoregulation ensures that constant blood flow is
supplied in the face of changes in perfusion pressure. The mechanism through which autoregulation
controls the blood flow during pressure changes is thought to be myogenic in nature but other factors
such as metabolic (CO2, O2, and so on) factors also assert some influence (Osol et al., 2002; Paulson
et al., 1990; Peterson et al., 2011). Furthermore, metabolic coupling mechanisms ensure that blood
flow is increased in active regions. CBF is highly variable across the brain and largely dependent on
neuronal activity, thus, an increase in neuronal

  • 3. Analysis Of Budgets Lie At The Core Of Every Business... Introduction Budgets lie at the core of every business practice. The tools are the major evaluators of managerial effectiveness and overall organizational performance. Businesses can achieve effective control and planning through the application of the right budgeting approaches in financial and accounting activities. Nonetheless, these benefits can only be realized if the managers of a company use the most effective models that take into account all relevant factors, which influence a firm s budget. An inefficient method automatically leads to attainment of poor results. In this light, practitioners in the financial and accounting sectors evaluate different budgeting techniques in terms of efficiency, flexibility, accurate results, and ease of use. One of the approaches that attract immense criticism in respect to these considerations is the traditional budgeting approach. It is, therefore, essential to look into the reasons as to why the model has been criticized as a rigid method that should be eliminated (Zeller Metzger 2013). Weaknesses of Traditional Budgeting Traditional budgeting model is not a new concept in business practice. Its application goes beyond the contemporary practices that have seen the development of new techniques. The model dates back to the onset of 1920s when the managers of the industrial revolution realized the need to control costs and the cash flows of a firm. Horvath and Sauter (2004) define the model as a quantitative expression of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. King Lear Evil Essay First of all, the evil characters within the play such as Goneril, Regan, and Oswald got the justice they deserved. Both of these girls lied and treated those around them cruelly throughout the entirety of the play. They lied to their father about how much they loved him confessing things like, Sir, I do love you more than words can wield the matter, / Dearer than eyesight, space, and liberty, / Beyond what can be valued (I. i. 55 57) just to turn on him once they got the land they wanted. By the end of the play, they practically became King Lear s enemies as they were plotting to have him killed. For lying to their father and attempting to kill the man who brought them up and gave them everything they know today, Goneril and Regan deserved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Albany was one of the good men who doubted the plans of killing King Lear and wanted the best for the village. But, Goneril saw this as cowardly and would spit out awful things to him like, Milk livered man / That bear st a cheek for blows, a head for wrongs / Who hast not in thy brows an eye discerning/ Thine honor from thy suffering (IV. ii. 52 54). Goneril even turned her back completely on Albany and plotted to kill him so that she could be with Edmund. So, for being disrespectful and turning their backs on their husbands who were good men, Goneril and Albany deserved to die and therefore deserved the justice served to them. The final evil character that deserved the fate amongst him was Oswald. Oswald is Goneril s servant and will do whatever she says, even if the task is immoral. For example, Goneril asks him to be blatantly rude to Lear and he does so without a second thought. Oswald also sought out to find Gloucester so that he can kill him and receive a reward. This proves that he has no morals because he will kill an innocent man if he gets something in return for doing so. Oswald s loose morals and blind following of his master are what made him rightfully deserve the justice he got which is his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Consequences of Conformity in The Chocolate War Consequences of Conformity in The Chocolate War Throughout Robert Cormier s The Chocolate War, the theme of the consequences of conformity, or nonconformity, is expressed. Although The Chocolate War was first published in 1974, this theme still pertains to the youth of today. This novel is timeless because teenagers will always face the choice of whether to be true to themselves, or to conform to what other s expect of them. In response to this theme, David Peck states, what this idea becomes is the concept of being true to oneself and standing up to the evil that one perceives in the world (Peck 2). Furthermore, this idea is conveyed when Jerry refuses to participate in his school s chocolate sale. At first he refuses to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the football field, he was struck from behind, a vicious blow to the kidneys, sickening in its impact. His knees caved in and he sank to the ground again (Cormier 189). Peck believes that the only character that is true to himself is Jerry but at a terrible price (Peck 2). Moreover, the constant theme of being true to one s self that is expressed in The Chocolate War is not displayed in a positive way. It can almost be seen as depressing. Throughout the entire novel, all of Jerry s attempts at being a nonconformist are met with brutal attacks. Even if the attacks were not physical, they were emotionally brutal. On the contrary, one can also look at Jerry s effort to conform. When he first refused to sell the chocolates, it was because of his assignment. He did not want to upset the Vigils. In return, this upset Brother Leon. In conclusion, this novel does not end on a positive note. Jerry is defeated. He feels that all of his efforts were useless, and there is no way to stay true to one s self if that means defying conformity. After his defeat, he tells his friend Goober not to disturb the universe (Cormier 259). By this, he means that he regrets not conforming because of all the trouble it cause him. Although the theme of the consequences of nonconformity is not displayed in a positive way, the reader should still be able to find the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Genealogy Of Morals By Nietzsche Section 14 in Essay 2 of Nietzsche s Genealogy of Morals , contains rich insight, mainly about punishment. Punishment is suppose to be the way to awaken the feeling of guilt in someone that has done some wrong. However, punishment does not succeed in instilling bad conscience, or the sense of guilt, on the guilty person. When someone is punished, they do not receive a feeling of guilt. It can lead to two opposite things; either they are are able to become stronger and tougher and take the punishment, or they have their vitality destroyed and become dehumanized. Nietzsche suggests that when the person who is guilty sees the person that he wronged cast these acts of punishment on him out of pleasure, he is blinded by the awful things that ... This passage as soon I read it really got me engaged. I felt like this was one of the sections I was able to truly relate to, and apply to my own life. Immediately I began to think about some of the stories my parents have shared about how my parents were punished when they were children. Now back in the 1960 s when they were kids, it was okay for their parents to smack them. It was just normal in society back then. They both agreed that, The physical discipline they received did not make them feel guilty about what they did. Instead, it made them scared to do it again. This goes along with what Nietzsche said. My parents stopped talking back and fighting with their siblings because they were scared of how their parents would punish them, they did not stop because they felt bad about it. Their vitality was broken down. I completely agree with it too. When I was a child I got it way easier than my parents did. When I got punished I was told to go in my room and not able to have any electronics. They would always tell me, Think about what you did. This was a method of theirs that truly was effective. • 8. Prohibition Of The Fourteenth Amendment Essay Introduction: 21st Amendment Following the passage of the 18th Amendment in 1919, which outlawed the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of alcohol, the United States entered a period of time now known as Prohibition (U.S. Const. amend. XVIII). Immediately following the passage of the 18th Amendment, consumption of alcohol, alcohol related injuries, and crime decreased (Schaeffer, 2011, p. 402). However, it did not take long for the government to realize that Prohibition came with many unintended consequences. According to Schaeffer (2011), state and local governments were ill prepared to handle the vast responsibilities of enforcing the law, which led to increased organized crime, corruption, and the failure of the law as a whole. 73% of Americans favored the repeal of the 18th Amendment in its entirety by the time the 21st Amendment was passed (Schaeffer, 2011, p. 408). The 21st Amendment was finally ratified in 1933 effectively ending prohibition. Aside from repealing the 18th Amendment, it also granted the states the right to regulate alcohol within their own borders and set a time limit for ratification of the law (U.S. Const. amend. XXI). Overall, this amendment decreased the powers of the federal government by delegating the authority over alcohol to the states. In relation to the 21st Amendment, it shows several important aspects of public administration. First, it highlights some of the public values that are integral to being an American citizen. • 9. Antigone By Sophocles Antigone In Sophocles, Antigone begins with the stages of grief as Antigone mourns the loss of her two brothers, Polyneikes and Eteokles, who die simultaneously in face to face combat in Thebes. Eteokles dies with honor fighting for the Thebesians and is honored with rituals and a proper burial. The body of Polyneikes, who attempted to burn the city of Thebes, is left for the dogs and birds to savage. Thesbesian s law forbids anyone giving a traitor, like Polyneikes, a proper burial, for that itself is a crime punishable by death. Antigone is angered that Polyneikes is not going to receive a proper burial and is determined that she must honor him even if it means the end of her life. Antigone alone attempts to bury her brother, but is captured and imprisoned, at which point she decides to form a noose around her neck and end her life. Sophocles leaves the reader to question whether Antigone s suicide is an act of heroism, a stand for the citizens of Thebes, or a selfish way of coping with personal trauma. Antigone sought assistance in burying her brother from her only family member alive, her sister, Ismene, who tries to reason with her. Ismene proclaims, Remember, we re women. How can we fight men? They re stronger (Sophocles 749). The physical statures of neither Polyneikes nor Antigone were not ever mentioned, but in general men typically weigh more and have a larger build than women. In this experiment, we proceeded to transform the E. coli bacteria with a gene that contained green fluorescent protein. The green fluorescent protein is used in experiments because it beams a green color under a UV light (Chalfie2008). Typically, it is used to mark the expression of genes, which is why it serves as the symbol for all gene expressions (Tsien1998). At most vets or animal clinics there are small and large dogs, because of the size differences the small and large dogs the grooming techniques differ. But lets hold on for a second. Before we even begin to groom the dogs one should get to know the dog better. Getting to know the dog (even if it s for only a few minutes) can help the grooming process go ten times smoother, because it allows not only you to get use to the dog but the dog gets use to you. Now that you two are familiar with one another the real grooming process can begin. When you are going to wash the dog know that there are some key points to remember. Though the dog has familiarized themselves with you, they still may not want a bath. At all cost do not force the dog to be bathed, in the end you are only going to stress out the dog and a stress dog creates an even more frustrated groomer. The point was clearly stated in the quote The reality is that few dogs were born loving baths, or even water. Resistance toward getting a bath can stem from inexperience or a previous bathing debacle. Regardless of the reason, a calm demeanor and gentle persistence are essential to keeping your pooch calm in the bathtub. SSS It gives a clear view and why the dog may feel this way and how to correct it for a successful grooming. Once you have gotten the dog to relax and stay calm you are ready to start. This first step is optional and mostly used for dogs who have long fur, before applying any water grab a brush and brush through the fur, this technique helps to lessen the amount of tangles the dog could have had or will have by the end of the bath. Now you can go ahead to apply water all over the dog s body to get the fur nice and soaked. After the dog has been soaked next is the shampoo, most vets use shampoos that help kill fleas, ticks, and other vermin. Bring the shampoo to a lather and get it all over the dog, ... Utilitarianism in Government In its political philosophy utilitarianism provides an alternative to theories of natural law and the social contract by basing the authority of government and the sanctity of individual rights upon their utility, or measure of happiness gained. As an egalitarian doctrine, where everyone s happiness counts equally, the rational, relatively straightforward nature of utilitarianism offers an attractive model for democratic government. It offers practical methods for deciding the morally right course of action ...an action is right as it tends to promote happiness, wrong as it tends to diminish it, for the party whose interests are in question (Bentham, 1780). One major point of contention, however, is that it is often difficult, if not impossible, to measure and compare the values of certain benefits and costs. How does one assign value to human life, or time, or artistic pleasures such as literature and music? Mill s response was to introduce variables to pleasure. While Bentham concentrated on quantity (the pleasure s duration, intensity, etc), Mill stressed quality. Adding the feature of quality to pleasure differentiates higher , intellectual pleasures from common, physical ones. He argues in his famous quote It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. And if the fool, or the pig, are of a different opinion, it is only because they only know their own side of the question . This reasoning is not very satisfactory if we consider how subjective (and elitist) it can be. Who is to determine which activities are more high brow or low brow, and what makes a competent judge? Mill states it should be person who has experience of the activities in question, but a key aspect of utilitarianism it the requirement of making these judgements impartially and impersonally. With the diversity of this world it is highly unlikely that the tastes and preferences will all align in accord. [this is a very clunky opening rewrite it I think people do know those are the three main types of cars...] People buy hybrid or electric cars because they either want to save money on gas or they want to be able to help the environment with their vehicles. One of the most popular hybrid vehicles in the United States is the Toyota Prius, which, compared to a normal gas powered car, has great mileage and reduced fuel emissions. The popularity of the Tesla Model S a fully electrically powered car has recently skyrocketed due to the increase in gas prices. Hybrid technology powered cars, such as the Toyota Prius, are better for the environment than fully electric powered vehicles, such as Tesla s Model S, because of the emissions created by the electricity that powers the vehicle. The gas powered vehicle has been a problem for the environment since the day it was created. These vehicles emit greenhouse gasses that are detrimental towards the environment. Nearly one fifth of the United States total fuel emissions come from gas powered cars. In 2012 transportation contributed with 28% of total greenhouse emissions in the United States. Sounds simple enough, but Swami does not mention how this testing affects the animals or why this is such a controversial issue among the public. M.J. Prescott, from the National Center for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animal Research, makes a very good point when he says that: Many people, including from within the scientific community, consider that the use of NHPs [nonhuman primates] in research is a matter of particular ethical concern because certain features NHPs share with ... Are we, human beings, morally justified in causing animals pain, suffering, distress and/or lasting harm in research aimed at alleviating or preventing human suffering, or furthering scientific knowledge? (Prescott, 12) Some people might answer this question by saying that it depends on what kind of research is being done. Others might say that the use of animals for human benefit is morally unacceptable. Prescott makes another great point about the use of any animal for medical research when he says, ...it is difficult for us, as human beings, to judge capacities for suffering in, or to empathize with, species who are evolutionarily different from us... (15). This answers his previously posed question about whether or not humans are justified to cause pain to animals by saying that humans cannot accurately judge how much pain an animal is in that is being used for medical research. When it comes to the use of NHPs and how they are treated after being used for medical research, the majority of NHPs used in experiments are euthanized, either because their tissues are required as part of the experiment or on compassionate grounds to alleviate unnecessary suffering (Prescott, 15). This seems humane enough, but the animals being used would not normally have gone through these medically induced situations in the wild, so their death would be premature when compared to NHPs that live in the wild. Innocent lives are often lost in acts of violence, such as what had happened at Columbine. Children who commit malicious crimes can either be tried as a child or an adult. Children tried in the juvenile court systems are able to get out of jail around or before they turn 21. Juvenile courts are meant to rehabilitate children who are said to be too young to understand their actions. Adults who commit the same crime as children are believed to be fully aware of their actions and the repercussions. If a child is tried as an adult, then the child can be given a longer sentence. Children who commit serious crimes should be tried as adults. With time, the severity of the crimes committed by children have been seen to be worse. Juvenile criminals, are still regarded by the law as children first criminals second (Collier 1). The juvenile court was originally created to help rehabilitate children who commit crimes such as stealing. Now the juvenile court can be seen harboring criminal who were well aware of the vicious acts he or she have done such as a murderer. These genes encode proteins that act as transcription factors called homeoproteins which regulate development of the embryo across the anterior posterior (AP) axis. Homeoproteins are the ultimate regulators of development; however mutations in the homeobox genes specifically HOXC10 are oncogenic (by gain of function mutations) and aid in the proliferation of certain cancer types and developmental disorders. The nature of these aspects provides further insight into the complex nature of gene expression, regulation, and the basis of morphogenesis. Given that there are 4 paralogous clusters these actions of collinearity suggest some form of redundancy in HOX gene function (Shah, N paper). Throughout the church there was varying opinions of the explosion and the war itself. Some people believed that the war would be necessary, while others believed there was no need for a war. IN an editorial from a New York Methodist newspaper in April 1898: Should we now go to war, insisted the Syracuse Northern Christian Advocate, our cause will be just, and Methodism will be ready to do its full duty. Every Methodist preacher will be a recruiting officer (Shankman, 1973). However, in the south, the Southern Christian Advocate pushed for people to help send aid to the Cubans that are refugees and on the island; some groups even set up soup kitchens and churches donated some money as charity. These opinions helped spread the divide after the attack on the Maine: Generally, the Methodist press advised that rash accusations were unjust and foolish. The Nashville Christian Advocate suspected that the explosion had been the work of a misguided Spaniard or resulted from a fire on the Maine, and it thought that all premature judgments on the cause of the sinking did more harm than good. Flavours are generally added to foods to enhance palatability, replace flavour loss during processing and/or storage, and to impart added flavour to analogue foods. Hydrolysates of proteins generated by acid, enzymes or fermentation have a long history of use as taste enhancing and savoury flavouring materials in the food industry. Besides being important precursors in thermal process flavourings, protein hydrolysates are widely used in food products as flavouring ingredients in their own right. Traditional European cuisine often incorporates hydrolysates of soy, wheat, meat and fish for the preparation of soups and gravies, while fermented seasonings such as soy sauce, soybean paste and fish sauce are prevalent in East Asian cuisine (Neklyudov et al., 2000). Hydrolysed vegetable protein (HVP) is a savoury flavouring agent used to impart authentic bouillon like characteristics and round off the taste of culinary preparations and ready to cook products (Aaslyng et al., 1999). Unlike fermented seasonings, HVP is produced by acid and enzymatic hydrolyses. • 31. Chicago Manual Style Essay Based on the CMS paper sample on page 84 of the text, I would say that a few of the differences between Chicago Manual Style and MLA format are the use of a title page, the use of marginal annotations, and the format of the citations. While MLA format is typically used for people writing in the humanities fields, Chicago Manual Style is mainly written in the history field. In this sample, a title page is used. In MLA format a title page is not required, though, it can sometimes be included if requested. MLA format included in text citations, not marginal annotations. Lastly, the citation format of the CMS format is unique, making some citations very long and some very short. When comparing the CMS format in the paper to my knowledge of the APA format, I feel that the differences are mostly found in the way that the citations are formatted. To start off, APA format, as discussed in previous forums, is mainly used in the social science fields. In the CMS paper, the specific page range from which the writer got their information from is given, while in the book s sample APA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As seen in the sample paper, the use of numbered citations allows reader to focus in on the actual content of the paper, and avoids the constant reuse of the source creator s last name and page number. While this is similar to the CSE format, the CMS format differs from CSE by not directing their writing towards a very specific audience. The CSE sample paper used very high level diction, which implied that they expected their readers to already have an idea of what the paper s topic was about. The CMS sample paper uses more lower level diction, which allows for a broader audience to be able to read and understand the content of the paper. I feel like the less focused audience range and the strong analysis of the CSE sample paper is its biggest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. African American Influence On Cuban Culture Before the popularization of Son, Cuban music and dance was largely influenced by Europe. Compositions in the early period closely resemble songs from middle class Europe. These genres include: the creole, canción and danzón (Moore 17). While these genres were seen as the model of Cuban expression at the turn of the century, the Afrocuban music known as Son would soon become (and remain) the paragon of Cuban artistic and cultural expression; the previous genres paled in comparison in terms of popularity. Fusing African, Indigenous and European elements, Son exemplified the transculturation that so many of the elites in Cuba were promoting as Cuba s identity; however, the most prominent elements in Son music originated from Africa, which did ... There are two main reasons for this persistence: the brutish and inhumane practices from Spanish and Portuguese slave traders, and the spiritual concept of ori practiced by the Yoruba. Before the abolition of slavery in 1886, the Spanish and Portuguese s philosophy was to work their slaves to death for four to five years, before bringing in a new hoard of bodies. Unlike the United States, there was little effort to integrate slaves into the culture. Because no assimilation took place, African culture was never replaced or lost in Cuba. Beyond this, the Yoruba people from Africa carried with them the tradition of Ori. This concept referred one s culture residing in the head or consciousness, and therefore unable to be taken away. • 35. Government Vs Federal Government George Smith wrote that Thomas Jefferson believed the distribution of power among federal, state, county, and local agencies was indispensable to America s system of fundamental balances and checks for the government. (Smith, 2012) Today federal, state, and local governments still play important roles in the operations of public schools through providing funding, policies, scope and organization of school systems. Through the years, the federal government has increased their position in governing public schools, state government works to guide and offer clarification, and local government is responsible for the day to day affairs. In Federal Control of Public Schools and the Decline of Community Carl Bankston III discusses the fact that the US Constitution makes no reference to schools or education. Since there is no direct mention the Tenth Amendment reserves all the power to be held at the state and to the people. In fact, federal government had no say in the first public schools, all power was delegated to the state. It wasn t until after the Civil War that the federal government would become involved with public education. Then after each war federal involvement would continue to increase. Court cases like Brown vs. The Board of Education, Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg, and Green vs. County School Board would be influential in the federal governments control. Even with the added involvement the U.S. Department of Education states that the Federal contribution ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The American Internal Revenue System and Computer Discount... IRS Data Warehouse Improvements 1. Why is it so difficult for the IRS to analyze the taxpayer data it had collected? The very complex process of assessing taxpayer data had increasingly been compounded by the sheer enormity of tax returns and files requiring assessment. The prodigious nature of this task is only further confounded by the imperative upon the IRS to subject a dense set of permutations of taxpayer information to scrutiny. Until the installment of the CDW system, the use of flat file and hierarchy based database systems made complex user queries on these multifarious permutations of taxpayer information nearly impossible. The result was both that individuals likely to require audits had been overlooked and that in many cases individuals who are otherwise innocent of any taxpayer indiscretions had been subjected to these review processes. The large scale of data and the somewhat obtuse ways of navigating said data had led to an impasse of efficiency. 2. What kind of challenges did the IRS encounter when implementing its CDW? What management, organization, and technology issues had to be addressed? In spite of this clear impasse, the case study here observes that it can be exceptionally difficult to convince a government agency that reformation is required. The case study describes agencies as being risk averse in this regard. This aversion is only magnified by a $2 million price tag on the data warehousing implementation and by the costs to labor, ... • 38. Analysis Of The Movie Mommie Dearest Psychological disorders are very real and present in many people we come in contact with daily, however, are very rarely talked about. Learning about these disorders can help us to understand others and ourselves better by telling us why we do and think the things we do. One effective way that we can observe and learn about psychological disorders is through movies. Mommie Dearest was directed by Frank Perry. It is centered around the actress Joan Crawford, who suffered from various psychological disorders. Joan s daughter, Christina, wrote a book about her mother and her many problems and it was later turned into a movie. It is very effective to use movie analysis as a way of learning, especially in psychology, because it provides a great way to observe without distractions. When you re looking at disorders, it s difficult to find a person who has many of these disorders and will allow you to observe them. Psychological disorders can be split into two major groups, personality disorders and mood disorders. Personality disorders are patterns of traits that can get in the way of your social or work life and may interrupt the individual s normal lifestyle. Mood disorders are inconsistent and unreliable changes in mood by the affected individual. (Rathus, 1998). With all of this being said, it brings me to my point that I will be talking about for the rest of this essay. Joan Crawford demonstrates the personality disorders of histrionic, narcissism, and OCPD. When it comes to mood disorders, Joan demonstrates bipolar disorder. First, I will be talking about histrionic. People who are histrionic are often very emotional and seek constant attention. (Psychology Today, 2017). The cause of this is unknown but some saw it may have something to do with childhood events and/or genetics. Symptoms of this are seeking reassurance constantly, being self centered, being very concerned with physical appearance, and having your opinions be easily influenced by other people. There are many times in the movie where Joan Crawford showed signs of histrionic. The first example I will be sharing is at Christina s birthday party. (Mommie Dearest, 1981). It appeared to me that Joan adopted children just for the attention of it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sustainable Living Yussuf Kabiru Abayomi University Of Ilorin, Department of Biochemistry (300Level) 02/10/2012 sustainable living Sustainable living is a lifestyle that attempts to reduce an individual s or society s use of the earth s natural resources and his/her own resources. Practitioners of sustainable living often attempt to reduce their carbon footprint by altering methods of transportation, energy consumption and diet. Proponents of sustainable living aim to conduct their lives in ways that are consistent with sustainability, in natural balance and respectful of humanity s symbiotic relationship with the earth s natural ecology and cycles. The practice and general philosophy of ecological living is highly interrelated with the overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of these industrial farming conditions, today s mounting environmental stresses are further exacerbated. These stresses include: declining water tables, chemical leaching, chemical runoff, soil erosion, land degradation, loss in biodiversity, and other ecological concerns. A more sustainable means of acquiring food is to purchase locally and seasonally. Buying food from local farmers reduces carbon offsets, caused by long distance food transport, and stimulates the local economy. Local, small scale farming operations also typically utilize more sustainable methods of agriculture than conventional industrial farming systems such as decreased tillage, nutrient cycling, fostered biodiversity and reduced chemical pesticide and fertilizer applications. Adapting a more regional, seasonally based diet is more sustainable as it entails purchasing less energy and resource demanding products that naturally grow within a local area and require no long distance transport. These vegetables and fruits are also grown and harvested within their suitable growing season. Thus, seasonal food farming does not require energy intensive greenhouse production, extensive irrigation, plastic packaging and long distance transport from importing non regional foods, and other environmental stressors. Local, seasonal produce is typically fresher, unprocessed and argued to be more nutritious. Local produce also contains less to no chemical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Brain Is Highly Metabolic And Important Organ Of The Body Brain is highly metabolic and important organ of the body. Even though it weighs only 2% body weight, however, requires disproportionate amount (~20 %) of the total blood flow. Unprecedented fall in cerebral blood flow (CBF) would quickly lead to unconsciousness and, if sustained for longer period of time would result in brain damage and death. Therefore, CBF is tightly regulated in the brain, as it facilitates the delivery of essential substrates required for metabolism and removal of metabolic by products. 1.1.1 Mechanism regulating CBF The cerbrovasculature is always under the combined influence of a number of physical and chemical stimuli that adjust vascular caliber/resistance so as to alter the blood supply to different parts of the brain (Bayliss, 1902; Lassen, 1959). Autoregulation and metabolic coupling are 2 important mechanism which regulates the CBF to the brain. Autoregulation ensures that constant blood flow is supplied in the face of changes in perfusion pressure. The mechanism through which autoregulation controls the blood flow during pressure changes is thought to be myogenic in nature but other factors such as metabolic (CO2, O2, and so on) factors also assert some influence (Osol et al., 2002; Paulson et al., 1990; Peterson et al., 2011). Furthermore, metabolic coupling mechanisms ensure that blood flow is increased in active regions. CBF is highly variable across the brain and largely dependent on neuronal activity, thus, an increase in neuronal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
