The Man I Killed By Tim OBrien
War is a constant in the world we live in. Wars are fought over people, land, religion, ideals, and
freedom. A prominent war in America s history is the Vietnam War, which took the lives of thousands
of soldiers and civilians alike and neither side wanted to keep the violence going. The Man I Killed by
Tim O Brien explores the psychological effects of someone in a war setting. While Military Service,
Exposure to Trauma, and Health in Older Adulthood: An Analysis of Northern Vietnamese Survivors
of the Vietnam War by Kim Korinek and Bussarawan Teerawichitchainan further explores this idea by
showing how civilians are also affected by the trauma of war not just soldiers. American Ignorance of

However, Korinek and Teerawichitchainan did think about this and wanted to explore what happens to
the mentality of people who have lived through this. Korinek and Teerawichitchainan studied and
analyzed the data from the Vietnam Health and Aging Pilot Study which explores the health and well
being of Vietnamese men and women who entered early adulthood during the Vietnam War and who
are now entering late adulthood. The goal of the study was to determine the health of the Vietnamese
civilians during the war. It is assumed that the soldiers who actually perform these terrible acts are the
only people will have any type of trauma. They claim, Rather, it was those who experienced
particularly intense and severe trauma exposures during wartime, namely, killing and being exposed to
toxic substances, whose health in late adulthood bore the marks of war (pg5). This relates back to the
central claim by showing how it is the soldiers who are on the front lines who experience the most
severe cases of PTSD. Although there may have been millions that participated in the war, only the
couple thousands who were on the ground forces are the ones who have a greater chance of having
PTSD. Korinek and Teerawichitchainan s research indicates that civilians and people who experience
war first hand are prone to psychological disorders like PTSD and depression. Which exemplifies

Animal Testing On Animals
A rabbit lives its life trapped in a laboratory. It doesn t get fresh air and has different products tested
on it every day. The product can make the rabbit go blind or cause its skin to burn, but there is nothing
the rabbit can do about it. This is what happens to animals every day from cosmetic companies who
test their products on animals. According to Cruelty Free Kitty (2017), over 30 cosmetic companies
continue to use animal testing to improve their products. According to the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (2017), the agency has consistently advised cosmetic manufactures to employ
whatever testing is appropriate and effective for substantiating the safety of their products. This means
that if the company believes animal testing is the best option for their product they are allowed to do
it. Testing cosmetics on animals is cruel and inhumane, and people should avoid using products that
test on animals.
There are many different tests that are performed on animals. According to The Humane Society of
The United States (n.d), it is estimated that 500,000 mice, guinea pigs, rats, and rabbits suffer and die
in these tests every year throughout the world. 500,000 innocent animals are used to improve cosmetic
company s products. One example of a test performed on animals are skin irritation/corrosion.
According to the Humane Society of The United States (n.d.), The test substance is applied to the
shaved skin of a rabbit. Their skin may show signs of redness, rash,

Data Warehouses and Data Marts: A Dynamic View

Data Warehouses and Data Marts: A Dynamic View By Joseph M. Firestone, Ph.D. White Paper No.
Three March 27, 1997
Patterns of Data Mart Development In the beginning, there were only the islands of information: the
operational data stores and legacy systems that needed enterprise wide integration; and the data
warehouse: the solution to the problem of integration of diverse and often redundant corporate
information assets. Data marts were not a part of the vision. Soon though, it was clear that the vision
was too sweeping. It is too difficult, too costly, too impolitic, and requires too long a development
period, for many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, its relation to the data warehouse turns the first pattern of development on its head. Here
multiple data marts are parents to the data warehouse, which evolves from them organically. The third
pattern of development attempts to synthesize and remove the conflict inherent in the first two. Here
data marts are seen as developing in parallel with the data warehouse. Both develop from islands of
information, but data marts don t have to wait for the data warehouse to be implemented. It is enough
that each data mart is guided by the enterprise data model developed for the data warehouse, and is
developed in a manner consistent with this data model. Then the data marts can be finished quickly,
and can be modified later when the enterprise data warehouse is finished. These three patterns of data
mart development have in common a viewpoint that does not explicitly consider the role of user
feedback in the development process. Each view assumes that the relationship between data
warehouses and data marts is relatively static. The data mart is a subset of the data warehouse, or the
data warehouse is an outgrowth of the data marts, or there is parallel development, with the data marts
guided by the data warehouse data model, and ultimately superseded by the data warehouse, which
provides a final answer to the islands of information problem. Whatever view is taken, the role of
users in the dynamics of data warehouse/data

The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
At 5:12 a.m. on April 18, 1906, the people of San Francisco were abruptly awaken to one of the world
s most expensive and impacting earthquakes of the 20th century. The magnitude of the earthquake is
debatable, ranging from 7.7 to as high as 8.2. However, the most accepted Richter measurement is 7.9.
This is debated because Charles Richtor developed his scale in 1935, after the killer quake. The main
shock epicenter occurred offshore 3.2 km from the city, near Mussel Rock. It ruptured along the San
Andreas Fault northward and southward for 476 km (296 miles). The quake was felt from Oregon to
Los Angeles, inland as far as Nevada. Though the earthquake was impacting in itself, it lasted less
than a minute and the most damage was done by the resulting fire that lasted 4 days. The earthquake
bears inexhaustible remembrance as one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the United
States and has had lasting social, fiscal, and political impact.
The death toll is uncertain, but modern calculations approximate about 3,000 deaths at a minimum.
The death toll alone is a very debated topic, and has had a large impact by itself. Initially it was said
that only 478 people had died. It is speculated that the official tally of 478 was employed by the city
coroner, who added 100 to the 378 bodies that showed up at the morgue. Some uncertainty in the toll
exists because government officials felt

Carnegie Hall Critique
Carnegie Hall invites some of the best young musicians to join Christopher O Riley on stage to
perform. Twelve year old Conrad Tao was the first guest welcomed to the stage in the season 1
episode that I watched. Tao lives in New York very close to Carnegie Hall. His performance
automatically jumped him into his piece. His choice of music was Kreisler s Tambourin Chinois. The
young player has a lot of style with a straight face while doing so. Christopher O Riley surprised me
when he was using a iPad to automatically flip the pages of his sheet music. Technology being used in
this performance just surprised me. After Tao s performance O Riley ask him if he has any other
interests besides music. Conrad has a love for rollercoasters. Between riding and researching them, he
basically knows all about them. The next gifted musician welcomed to stage is a clarinet player from
Spartanburg, South Carolina named Nicholas Graham. I can relate to his instrument very much. He
reminds me of my older sister growing up playing the clarinet. Nicholas performs the first part of the
fantasy piece by Schumann. There was a lot of reasoning why he choose this specific piece. He shares
with the audience that he heard the song performed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This time Carnegie Hall had something special for him. The show had him his very own personalized
Jeopardy game. The grand prize for answering two out of three questions was a pair of From the Top
signature tube socks. Tao successfully answers all three questions correctly and wins his pair of tube
socks. I hope that the tube socks are just a gag prize. The main reason he was brought back to the
stage was for a final performance. His final performance is a piece he composed himself. Conrad and
his friends play Saturday Morning Tango. The three of them worked very hard to perform the
performance that was done. The tune sounded as if it belonged in a James Bond film, which I enjoyed

Helicopter Parenting Analysis
Helicopter parenting is when a parent or guardian is overly concerned, and involved in their child s
performance in various activities and their physical well being. As discussed in lecture, this concept
largely stems from the idea that the world has become increasingly dangerous since the parents of the
millennial generation were children and in turn they over compensate by becoming involved in their
children s action and life decisions, both big and small. During this observation I noticed many
insistences of helicopter parenting, the most prominent were the parents in the stands who were
shouting very loudly the entire game. Though they allowed their child to play a contact sport many of
them spent the entire game literally on the edge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The couple used as an example in Randall s chapter did not initiate co sleeping because of their own
cultural traditions or values but because they were unable to comfortably sleep themselves. They were
concerned that they were unable to hear her breathing from their bed, I assume they were worried
about sudden infant death syndrome. Though it is common practice in many other cultures, co
sleeping is not recommended by western physicians who say there is a risk of the child suffocating
from the weight of the sleeping adult or from becoming entrapped by the bedding, or the adults
clothing. (Randall, 2012, 79) It seems that helicopter parenting steams from fear for the child s well
being which the clouds the child s

Speech Freedom Of Speech
Freedom of speech in school is necessary because it provides students with a voice, it provides
motivation , it causes less violence.
The First Amendment is very important and is needed in school because it can be use to the students
advantage in school and later in life, an article from learning to appreciate the first amendment such an
environment likely would allow students to talk freely about important and controversial issues in the
classroom. But it could also allow students to address these issues these issues through their art, their
clothing and theater performances, and in their after school organizations. (Ralston). and environment
would allow the students to express themselves freely The students also appreciate Freedom of speech
and the first amendment if it is regularly practiced ...students are more likely to appreciate and
understand their free speech rights if they actually use those rights in high school. (Ralston)There is
also a decrease in violence because the students can voice their opinions and protest. The First
Amendment it s purpose is to give the people a voice, how can students voice their opinions if
teachers and staff restrict the students voices? It is important as citizens to follow the constitution as
guidance,It s just as important to have teens and young adults to speak freely.Teens and young adults
want to have their opinion valued as much as an older adult s opinion. As teens are growing into a
young adult they seek more responsibility and to be trusted more.Teens and young adults are given
little to no option with how they can voice their opinion because schools find some topics triggering
and disrespectful even though schools tend to think this, These topics that are triggering are real life
problems and will happen at one point in someone s life and the students feel the responsibility to
cover these topics with other classmates.Violence in the outside world is a definite threat to the
students because hate speech against race, color, sexuality and gender the students feel the need to
inform others of these problems but due to the schooling system they are not allowed to speak about it
without getting in trouble for speaking about these topics that could inflict their

District 8 Music Festival Essay
Recently I attended the 2016 ILMEA District 8 Music Festival. While I got the opportunity to create
and perform music with other District Senior Choir, I also got to hear the District Senior Band give a
lovely concert as well. The conductor was James Lambrecht. Before and in between when the band
was playing he would explain how proud he was of the group and then he told everyone a little about
the pieces. Each piece was a contemporary band arrangement. The band played four pieces: Play! by
Carl Holmquist, Rest by Frank Ticheli, Spoon River by Percy Grainger as well as Carson Naylor, and
Galop by Dimitri Shostokovich and Hunsberger. They started out performing the song, Play!. Play!
was written by Carl Holmquist who is a relatively young composer, that is still alive today. He is a
composer of current band arrangements. Holmquist had intended for his this polyphonic piece to
recreate the sound of the joy that happens when playing music. The piece starts off with a lone clarinet
group playing a conjunct melody. The group is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

trombones and trumpets and begins to be tossed back and forth between the two as they are
accompanied by the rest of the band in a polyphonic fashion. The theme is then transferred to the
flutes for a brief moment before being handed back to the brass section. The influence of the fiddle is
heard throughout the music as the instruments with the theme trill as a fiddle would while playing.
The influence of war marches is also heavily heard in the rest of the band when they don t have the
theme as well as in the drums. The piece grows triumphantly and passes the theme from the flutes and
back one last time, becoming more chaotic than any other time in the song. With a crash of the
symbols and the chime of the tube bells playing triumphantly, the song is

What Are The Challenges Of Thomas Becket s Persuasion
In the historical novel If All the Swords in England by Barbra Willard, the author presents the brave
challenges that confront Thomas Becket during the final years of his life from 1164 to 1170. King
Henry II is the ruler of England, and Thomas Becket is the archbishop of Canterbury. There is serious
conflict between the two leaders. Twin brothers, Simon and Edmund, witness all these events, and
they reveal to the reader the great affection and respect the people have for the archbishop, the love
Thomas has for the Church, and his unstoppable courage even when his life is threatened. Thomas

Effectiveness Of Effective Interpersonal Communication
The most successful law enforcement officers are those that are able to find solutions and yet uphold
enforcement without resorting to other use of force methods as most fights can be won with the right
and positive attitude. Therefore, it is essential that the use of effective interpersonal communication is
the numer one compliance tool and resource for law enforcement officers.
According to a survey, law enforcement officers spend 80 percent of the time using their interpersonal
communications, whether its verbal, face to face, on the two way radio, writing reports, notebooks,
computers, etc. It can be basically categorized into communicating within the law enforcement
environment and communication within the community. Interpersonal ... Show more content on

Correlation Between Income And Infant Mortality
Evidence has persisted through the last century that people struggling under the pressures of poverty
often experience inferior lifestyles compared to those with higher incomes, however it is less apparent
to what degree income can truly affect the overall health and well being of different social classes.
People with higher income typically have better access to healthcare, education, freedom and equality
and in turn will on average have greater overall health, better occupations amongst many other
benefits but it is difficult to accurately establish to what extent these additional endowments actually
contribute to the well being and early health of their infants. And if there is indeed a connection
between income and infant mortality or birth weight, what other conditions must be held constant or
controlled in order for these connections to be statistically significant? Schady Smitz (2009) took the
direction of studying middle income country with specified regularity and extremity in economic
shocks to the system and then attempting to establish a connection with said shocks to the infant
mortality rates. They gathered relevant statistics from countries with over ten years of infant mortality
data and have at least two years of significant negative economic growth. The list of countries studied
was comprised of twelve middle income countries and five low income countries. Schady Smitz found
that only Armenia displayed a true counter cyclical connection between GDP

Athleticism And Athleticism
In American culture, athleticism and strength play a pivotal role in the way that people view one
another. Athleticism is viewed as more desirable and important, while artistic abilities tend to be
frowned upon by the public. Some people experience both sides of the stigma around being athletic,
such as playing tennis while being a member of the marching band. Likewise, a school could give
more funding to a popular sport over another, regardless of either team s actual skill. Those on the
wrong side are treated worse than those star athletes in more popular sports, such as football or
basketball. In Jock Culture, author Robert Lipsyte explores the effect of preferential treatment of
athletes, its effect on society, and the multitude of ways he has observed as a sports writer. Likewise,
author Brad Manning exposes his relationship with athleticism and the arts in, Arm Wrestling With my
Father , and explains the effect of competition on his relationship with his father. This culture can be
seen in every level of education, within professional athletics and home lives, but is toxic no matter
the setting. The expectations and concepts of athleticism in today s society can divide or unite people,
while stereotypes shape the way we live and communicate with one another. Children quickly learn to
fit in one should be athletic or at the very least interested in sports. The lack of interest may divide and
has the potential to create conflict. Two girls may join a tennis team

Inventions Of The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was an innovative period between the 1760s through the 1850s, making
people go from a predominantly agricultural existence into a more urban lifestyle. Starting after year
1750, all the factors that, made Great Britain the best place for industrialization. The primary
assessment that made it possible was the invention of machines that could do work that was
previously done by hand. This allowed production to shift from inside homes into factories. During
the industrial revolution, new inventions were plentiful and helped to revolutionize the way in which
people lived. The Steam engine, mass production/division of labor, mechanization, abundance of iron,

Mass Production and Division of labor is a manufacturing system based upon principles such as
interchangeable parts, large scale productions, and the high volume assembly line. In the early 1800s,
a man named Josiah Wedgwood started his own pottery business using mass production, they made
pottery for Europeans who liked to always keep their tea from porcelain because without the pottery
cups the flavor would spoil. He hired many labors to press down the clay, glaze pieces, carry things,
while others put handles on cups. Mass Production adapted to make workers more productive using
less required skills, while being paid less being able to lower costs of products while boosting quality.
Mass Production and Division became the most important structure for manufacturing across the
globe, utilizing extreme impact on popular culture.
Mechanization was a huge process, that changed work that was done before only by hands or animal s
to doing work with new machinery. The cotton thread and weaving for cloth in the 1800s was a main
product for these new machines, the cloth was much nicer, softer, and cleaner than any hand made
clothing as said in the book wealthy Europeans developed a liking for the costly import. This quote
shows that wealthy Europeans were itching for the newly designed products made by these machines.
The people working in this industrial adapted well towards mechanization by being able to create
more product faster, while being less stressed at work.

My Personal Opinion On The Game
I ve had the pleasure of enjoying about five or six hours of MP thus far, (I ve lost count.) including an
entirely sleepless night I took to stay up and continue playing to beat the campaign at hand. Below, I
ve written a release day review to assist you in deciding whether you would enjoy this game or not.
First of all, make no mistake, Battlefield Hardline isn t simply a reboot of BF4. Though every BF
game is similar to the others, Battlefield Hardline appears to be the freshest attempt at BF since the
release of BC. In my personal opinion, I m stoked that this game is a bit different, because if I desire a
military based FPS, the community surrounding BF4 continues to actively thrive!
I quickly observed that loading times appear to be longer than usual for the majority of FPS games.
However, I ve only played 5 hours of MP, which doesn t include beta). So, keep that in mind, because
though I wanted to note this fact, I don t want to create the impression that I don t know how the game
will ultimately play on your system when it s cooled down or that I m knowledgeable about the
progression system.
Reasons Why You Should Play the Campaign
Visceral has made a concerted effort to create an immersive campaign. In fact, it s my favorite BF
campaign, only second to BC2, obviously! I m entirely cognizant that it being my favored campaign
isn t really enough of a reason for you to gauge you re interest, but I want to further convey my
enjoyment I

The primary ethical dilemma in this case revolves around corporate social responsibility and ethical
practices versus profitability and maximizing shareholder wealth. In this case, Merck had to decide
between profits at the center of the company s shareholders wealth, the company s image from a

to establish Merck s good reputation but would build trust with the doctors, patients, and stakeholders.
While it would likely decrease revenues in the short term, both the company and the general public

The Impeachment of President Clinton Essay
James Madison, in writing the US Constitution in 1787, intended that the system of checks and
balances would separate the powers of the government branches and counter a tyranny of the majority
. He carefully sought to distribute powers in a way that prevents any one faction from dominating.
Under this system, the President can appoint federal judges, grant pardons, veto bills, propose laws,
reject part of bills, etc. Equally, the Congress can override presidential veto, impeach the President,
ratify treaties, etc., and the Courts can declare laws and executive orders unconstitutional. The
contemporary system of checks and balances isn t working as Madison intended as illustrated by the

Furthermore, none of the misconduct associated with President Clinton was an assault on the
American form of government. The government shutdown of 1995 was yet another example of how
the system of checks and balances wasn t what Madison intended. In 1994, there was a shift in the
control of Congress from Democrats to Republicans, with the intended goal of balancing the federal
budget. Here, breaches of inter branch accommodation occurred and resulted in the 1995 budget
shutdown. The Congressional Republicans were threatening to withhold funding from the executive
branch unless President Clinton conceded to a series of budget priorities. The power of the purse is
given to Congress without any textual limitations that give them the authority to defund the executive
branch. The danger in this would be sabotaging the Constitution s central organizational structure, set
up by Madison, that the government comprises of three equal branches. Regardless, the Republicans
in Congress remained firm, which caused the two shutdowns of government agencies in 1995.The
divided branches and impasse led to the expiration of federal funding. In 1996, the President and
Congress agreed on appropriations for the Fiscal Year. At the time, majority of public opinion favored
the President s position. The illegal arms transfer to Iran was a violation of the checks and balances of

How Technology Has Changed Today s Society
Ever wondered how many steps you took after hiking up a mountain? Ever question your heart rate
after a great workout? Have you ever known someone who couldn t hear well until they got a hearing

include something that can be used to count the amount of steps, check your heart rate, and help

noun that is a small computer or advanced electronic device that is worn or carried on the body. If you
take a look at the world around you, you are bound to count an endless variety of these types of
devices being wore in today s society where technology has seemed to take over. Wearable technology

also used for work, school and wearable technology even has very beneficial medical uses. Wearable
technologies have gained both a great deal of approval by many, as well as some doubt of their
usefulness and privacy, all of which are dependent of the device and its user. There are a wide range of
wearable technology that is being used in the workforce today. There is wearable technology used for
jobs in military purposes, space interaction, firefighters and police officers. I recently read a very

bring evil to the world and destroy the race of man. In the epic novel The Lord of the Rings: The
Fellowship of the Ring by J. R. R. Tolkien, the author uses the ring as a symbol of evil that corrupts
almost every soul it encounters. Tolkien carefully uses the ring to symbolize how even the smallest
objects can cause so much pain and death and bring fear to the hearts in Middle Earth (setting in the
book). The ring lies in the heart of the story, giving temptation to almost every character it crosses or
has crossed and even transforming once thought to be harmless folk into the most twisted and sinister
villains. The separation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, Sméagol s nature, his very character, soul, and embodiment is changed by the ring. As
an object of evil, the ring strives to destroy a person s free will and transform them into a host of evil.
Tolkien states that the ring will corrupt whoever is in possession of it. This gives the idea of
imprisonment for the soul purpose of fulfilling the rings goal, destruction. As Sméagol continues his
obsession over the ring, it eats away at him and overpowers any individualism he once had.
Tolkien creates the ring as the epitome of evilness to give it a mind of its own. With this symbolism,
the ring is able to maneuver itself and corrupt whom it pleases. It takes on the evilness of the beholder
and enhances their evil thoughts to the point in which evilness is the only thought that consumes them.
As described by another hobbit, Frodo, the ring has an unwholesome power that sets to work on its
keeper at once. In Sméagol s instance, the ring is able to take a strong hold of his soul with just a look
at the bright and beautiful gold that it entails. Such evilness is personified by Tolkien because Tolkien
sees it as something that takes action, not something that is acted upon. The power that the ring
possesses eats away at him until he is an entire different creature. The ring destroys Sméagol and
creates Gollum, an outcast and a murderer. The theme of temptation displayed by Tolkien coincides
with the temptation that evilness

Command Center Journey
1. Two young boys are officially assumed to be dead by the Coast Guard, and we ve suspended our
search. My pulse slowed, my breathing stabilized and my pace slowly quickened. The music in my
headphones is ambient; words interrupt my concentration and I need to be able to focus and reflect.
There are cars on the bridge backed up for a half mile, filled with people, but I don t see their faces.
Blurring aqua marines and concrete colors fill my vision, but I am not seeing any of it. As the music
and the pounding of my footfalls fall into synchronization, what I see is faces. Not the faces of the two
boys, however, the faces I see are the faces of my people in the Command Center. We did everything

Success is not a mountain peak, nor is it the finish line. Success is persevering in the journey. That s
important to remember in a Command Center, because everyday a dozen missions are planned, many
cases worked, a multitude of details attended to and a legion of challenges to be sorted. In this journey
is no finishing, there is no summit. Achieving success in a Command Center is a marathon without
end, a 24 hour a day race against failure, and success is possible only through the unified belief of
those undertaking the effort that their actions matter, that what they are doing is personally and
professionally meaningful. Overtime, the constant flow of cases can erode morale like a river carving
a canyon. Chasms can appear in the confidence and motivation of the watchstanders, which is a recipe
for failure. This is where the third and final pillar of my leadership philosophy comes into play:
Vigilant Inspiration. To combat the grinding down of the most important element in the Command
Center, the will of the watchstander, requires vigilance and constant recognition to maintain the
motivation of my people. Enthusiasm is a delicate flower that flourishes in a harsh environment only
with care and vigilance, encouragement, praise, and the belief that we have each others success as our
priority. To this end, I must be vigilant to praise whenever it s merited, to document positive
performance, and to connect on a personal level with my people to find out what makes them tick.
Only through knowing my people, am I able to perceive when they are struggling with a deficit of
motivation, burnout, or ennui. Only through showing them that I care about them personally am I able
to earn their trust. Only through having their trust am I able to earn their respect. Only through having
their respect am I able to make praise meaningfully. This is Vigilant

Consumer Behavior Process
INTRODUCTION Consumer behavior is considered as the mental and emotional process and the
observing behavior of consumers during searching, purchasing and post consumption of a product or
service. Consumer behavior involves study of what they buy, why they buy, how they buy, and when
they buy (Gupta Shallu, 2013). From various sources, the past experience and state of mind, the
consumer may determine the impact that advertising has on him/her. In an effort to improve
messaging and to gain the audience s attention, advertisers create some special moments to resonate
the mind of the target customer and motivate the audience to purchase the advertised product or
service (Chakrabortty, Hossain, Azad, Jakirul, 2013). The value of studying the consumer behavior is
that it gives vital information to an organization for designing an effective marketing strategy. The
way a consumer thinks, perceives, decides and is influenced is important in designing of promotional
campaigns for any product. This report will cover the extensive advertisements done by Cadbury
when their most popular product dairy milk was suffering declining sales and a tarnished image. The
objective of this report is to analyze and evaluate the marketing strategies and promotions done by
Cadbury and how they affected consumer behavior. Also, the report will provide limitations and
suitable recommendations for the future promotions of Cadbury. BACKGROUND Cadbury Dairy

Analyzing The Aesthetics Of Figure Skating
Watching Evgeni Plushenko come to his victory for Russia once again in this Winter Olympics in
Vancouver, I found myself realising why figure skating has always been viewed as a very feminine
sport. They swing their arms dramatically with constant hand motions and exaggerate their facial
expressions. Every single routine is punctuated with these moves. The sparkly and rhinestone covered
costumes often look like they were designed for a children s beauty pageant. Dick Button, a gold
medalist in 1948 and 52, describes viewing them as being trapped in a windmill in the Metropolitan
Opera House costume department. 1 No wonder our society has always viewed figure skating as a
softer sport.2
The expressive nature and emphasis on aesthetics of figure skating is what makes it such a soft sport,
otherwise described as a sport for girls in this case, girly men. I felt like these men were constantly
trying to be graceful without being feminine yet their costumes did not help prove their masculinity
whatsoever. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plushenko scores low in this criterion but the notoriously flamboyant American male figure skater,
Johnny Weir, may just be the worst of them all. Weir is known for his over the top performances and

happened to design himself. Funny enough, Claude Mailhot, a French commentator even thought that
he might have lost points due to his costume and his body language during his performance in the
Olympics3. And in response, Alain Goldberg says, we should make [Weir] pass a gender test at this

Ontological Argument Is Not Reliant On An Posteriori
Ontological Argument Saint Anselm created the Ontological Argument . Saint Anselm was the
archbishop of Canterbury. The premise of Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is that, no greater
being can be conceived than God. The Ontological Argument is an a priori or deductive argument. An
a priori argument does not have to be supported by real or factual evidence just by reason without
observation. Thus, the Ontological Argument is not reliant on an a posteriori premise. An a posteriori
argument is an inductive argument and usually considered to be true because of past evidence or
reasoning and rarely false. In Core Questions in Philosophy by Elliot Sober, Sober first discusses how

However, nothing can be imagined greater or more perfect than God. So therefore Anselm believes,
God must exist in every possible world. However, Gaunilo and Kant criticize Anselm s Ontological
Argument. First, Guanilo believes that Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is faulty. Regardless that
the Ontological Argument is deductively valid, Gaunilo believed there must be something inaccurate
with the argument. Gaunilo used a concept of a perfect island, which he shortens to P island. Gaunilo s
counter argument is actually in the same format of Anselm s Ontological Argument, which is an a
priori argument. The theory of a P island is that no greater island can be thought of. This theory begins
the same way as Anselm starts out the Ontological Argument. By paralleling to the Ontological
Argument, that no greater being can be thought of greater than God; Gaunelos premise is that, no
greater island to be though of than P island. So furthermore, P island is the best possible island. His
first premise was, P island is the greatest possible imaginable island. Second was that, if the island
doesn t exist in the real world, it is not as perfect as an island that exists in all possible worlds. Then,
his result was that a P island is not contingent but exists necessarily. Furthermore, Gaunelo next
concluded that the two premises of the P island counter argument are true; but that it doesn t
deductively imply the conclusion. He then states that this must

Analysis of Daystar by Rita Dove Essay
While reading the poem Daystar, written by Rita Dove, its readers most likely do not ask thought
provoking questions like Why did Dove write this? or What is the true meaning behind this poem? but
the poem has deeper meaning than what its outside layer portrays. Dove, an African American woman
born in 1952, has not only viewed the racism of the United States society, but she has also seen how
gender can or cannot play a role in the advancement of a person s life (Rita Dove: The Poetry

Daystar comes from a book of poems written by Dove entitled Thomas and Beulah, which tells both
the real and unreal stories of Dove s maternal grandparents (Stein 64). Unlike Dove, who grew up
during a time of women s rights, her grandmother most likely did not have an admired career as a
housewife. In discussing Thomas and Beulah, Stein explains, It is almost painful to witness Thomas
and Beulah, two people clearly devoted to each other, continually misinterpret each other s behavior
(70). Although Daystar is not necessarily written from an autobiographical perspective, Dove is using
the research of her family and her own experiences to welcome us into the lives of the distressed
Beulah. Beyond the already mentioned first line about how Beulah wanted a little room for thinking
(1), there are many other evidences in the poem that prove this woman desires more than what she
currently has. Even today, women are viewed as the main caretakers of their children and the ones
who are expected to respond to the domestic duties at home, and this is what Beulah exemplifies. In
the next lines of Daystar, obligations of motherhood are further explained as Dove writes, but she saw
diapers steaming on the line, /a doll slumped behind the door (2 3). Both the diapers and the doll
imply that it is Beulah s job to take care of the laundry and clean up the mess that her children have
left behind. Furthermore, the

The Three Types Of Pollution That Affect Humans And Animals
I think that the topic pollution is a very important topic to talk about, here is why I think so.
There is quite a few types of pollution in the world, but the three main ones I want to address are the
types of pollution that affect Humans and animals. The three main types of pollution that can
negatively affect humans and animals are air, water, and soil pollution.
Air pollution is a type of pollution that occurs when harmful substances, including particulates and
biological molecules are introduced into Earth s atmosphere. There is a lot of chemicals that get
released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned; the effects that these chemicals have on our
bodies when inhaled can be very detrimental to our health and well being. A few things that can occur
when we breathe in polluted air are; firstly, you are put at a higher risk of respiratory diseases such as
asthma and bronchitis. Second, exposure to higher levels of particle pollution have been shown to
correspond to higher risks of heart complications. Third, immune system, endocrine, and reproductive
system damage; which can lead to future health complications. Four, when living in an area with lots
of air pollution you are being put at higher risks for cancer. The pollutants in the air mostly contain of
carcinogens; any substance, radionuclide, or radiation that is an agent directly involved in causing
cancer. Five, contact with the air pollution can lead to neurobehavioral problems and premature death.
These are a few of the main effects that air pollution has on humans.
Air pollution can also negatively affect animals, here are a few ways on how it can. The first way that
air pollution can negatively affect animals are from acid rain. Acid rain is an acidic form of rain,
meaning that it contains high levels of hydrogen ions; having a low pH balance of around 5.7. The
acid rain can destroy the life of fish in lakes and streams. The second way that air pollution can
negatively affect animals are, extreme ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet radiation is the portion of the
EM (electromagnetic) spectrum between X rays and visible light. When extreme UV radiation is
coming from the sun through the ozone layer (in the upper atmosphere), it can

Why Do Jewish Women Join Partisan Groups
Jewish women fighting within the partisan groups faced an uphill battle in their attempt to gain respect
and find their place within the group. Being both Jewish and women, just gaining access into the
group was difficult but then once they were in, they faced being bound by traditional feminine role
and the threat of sexual abuse. Many partisan women though, did not let racism, and sexism define
them and proved themselves valuable through their work ethics, skills, and strength. Through several
stories we have learned about, we can see the heroism that these women showed and how they broke
away from the traditional roles that women were expected to play, shattering the stereotypes that were
put on them. These women survived not only being a partisan but also the evil twins of anti Semitic
and sexual violence (JPEF1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

boys can go (JPEF2). So the women that did join partisans were already breaking free of the
traditional roles that many people felt they should be playing as women. Women that joined the
partisans wanted to live, and to avenge the humiliation that had been thrown upon them and their
families. This concept of women wanting to fight and use a gun broke conventional roles and shows

Mercenaries need to be stopped being used because they allow governments to do whatever they
please without getting caught. Gilsinan argues, both [drones and private military companies] should be
part of the same category, because they allow national governments to get involved in fighting without
actually having citizens do it. And that creates moral hazard for policymakers, because it lowers the
barriers of entry into conflict (Gilsinan). When Private military contractors are used they break any
established laws to complete their mission. Governments use these contractors because they realize
that they can get away with breaking international laws by having the mercenaries break them. This is
atrocious because if the United States decides to keep using contractors and these private contractors
continue to break laws then conflict will appear. When other governments begin to see hired

don t know your language that well, or they are newcomers to your country. The way I would reach
out to the newcomer youth in the Greater Toronto area would be creating a flier to post around schools
and public places to promote the program, this way the more instances that people see the flier, the
more interested in it they become. Another way of grabbing the attention of newcomers to pull them

presentation so they are able to get the same information. There is one major barrier the I need to

  • 2. The Man I Killed By Tim OBrien War is a constant in the world we live in. Wars are fought over people, land, religion, ideals, and freedom. A prominent war in America s history is the Vietnam War, which took the lives of thousands of soldiers and civilians alike and neither side wanted to keep the violence going. The Man I Killed by Tim O Brien explores the psychological effects of someone in a war setting. While Military Service, Exposure to Trauma, and Health in Older Adulthood: An Analysis of Northern Vietnamese Survivors of the Vietnam War by Kim Korinek and Bussarawan Teerawichitchainan further explores this idea by showing how civilians are also affected by the trauma of war not just soldiers. However, Korinek and Teerawichitchainan did think about this and wanted to explore what happens to the mentality of people who have lived through this. Korinek and Teerawichitchainan studied and analyzed the data from the Vietnam Health and Aging Pilot Study which explores the health and well being of Vietnamese men and women who entered early adulthood during the Vietnam War and who are now entering late adulthood. The goal of the study was to determine the health of the Vietnamese civilians during the war. It is assumed that the soldiers who actually perform these terrible acts are the only people will have any type of trauma. They claim, Rather, it was those who experienced particularly intense and severe trauma exposures during wartime, namely, killing and being exposed to toxic substances, whose health in late adulthood bore the marks of war (pg5). This relates back to the central claim by showing how it is the soldiers who are on the front lines who experience the most severe cases of PTSD. Although there may have been millions that participated in the war, only the couple thousands who were on the ground forces are the ones who have a greater chance of having PTSD. Korinek and Teerawichitchainan s research indicates that civilians and people who experience war first hand are prone to psychological disorders like PTSD and depression. Which exemplifies Milosz s article American Ignorance of War by showing how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Animal Testing On Animals A rabbit lives its life trapped in a laboratory. It doesn t get fresh air and has different products tested on it every day. The product can make the rabbit go blind or cause its skin to burn, but there is nothing the rabbit can do about it. This is what happens to animals every day from cosmetic companies who test their products on animals. According to Cruelty Free Kitty (2017), over 30 cosmetic companies continue to use animal testing to improve their products. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (2017), the agency has consistently advised cosmetic manufactures to employ whatever testing is appropriate and effective for substantiating the safety of their products. This means that if the company believes animal testing is the best option for their product they are allowed to do it. Testing cosmetics on animals is cruel and inhumane, and people should avoid using products that test on animals. There are many different tests that are performed on animals. According to The Humane Society of The United States (n.d), it is estimated that 500,000 mice, guinea pigs, rats, and rabbits suffer and die in these tests every year throughout the world. 500,000 innocent animals are used to improve cosmetic company s products. One example of a test performed on animals are skin irritation/corrosion. According to the Humane Society of The United States (n.d.), The test substance is applied to the shaved skin of a rabbit. Firestone, Ph.D. White Paper No. Three March 27, 1997 Patterns of Data Mart Development In the beginning, there were only the islands of information: the operational data stores and legacy systems that needed enterprise wide integration; and the data warehouse: the solution to the problem of integration of diverse and often redundant corporate information assets. Data marts were not a part of the vision. Soon though, it was clear that the vision was too sweeping. It is too difficult, too costly, too impolitic, and requires too long a development period, for many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, its relation to the data warehouse turns the first pattern of development on its head. Here multiple data marts are parents to the data warehouse, which evolves from them organically. The third pattern of development attempts to synthesize and remove the conflict inherent in the first two. Here data marts are seen as developing in parallel with the data warehouse. Both develop from islands of information, but data marts don t have to wait for the data warehouse to be implemented. It is enough that each data mart is guided by the enterprise data model developed for the data warehouse, and is developed in a manner consistent with this data model. Then the data marts can be finished quickly, and can be modified later when the enterprise data warehouse is finished. These three patterns of data mart development have in common a viewpoint that does not explicitly consider the role of user feedback in the development process. Each view assumes that the relationship between data warehouses and data marts is relatively static. The data mart is a subset of the data warehouse, or the data warehouse is an outgrowth of the data marts, or there is parallel development, with the data marts guided by the data warehouse data model, and ultimately superseded by the data warehouse, which provides a final answer to the islands of information problem. Whatever view is taken, the role of users in the dynamics of data warehouse/data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is debated because Charles Richtor developed his scale in 1935, after the killer quake. The main shock epicenter occurred offshore 3.2 km from the city, near Mussel Rock. It ruptured along the San Andreas Fault northward and southward for 476 km (296 miles). The quake was felt from Oregon to Los Angeles, inland as far as Nevada. Though the earthquake was impacting in itself, it lasted less than a minute and the most damage was done by the resulting fire that lasted 4 days. The earthquake bears inexhaustible remembrance as one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the United States and has had lasting social, fiscal, and political impact. The death toll is uncertain, but modern calculations approximate about 3,000 deaths at a minimum. The death toll alone is a very debated topic, and has had a large impact by itself. Initially it was said that only 478 people had died. It is speculated that the official tally of 478 was employed by the city coroner, who added 100 to the 378 bodies that showed up at the morgue. Some uncertainty in the toll exists because government officials felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Twelve year old Conrad Tao was the first guest welcomed to the stage in the season 1 episode that I watched. Tao lives in New York very close to Carnegie Hall. His performance automatically jumped him into his piece. His choice of music was Kreisler s Tambourin Chinois. The young player has a lot of style with a straight face while doing so. Christopher O Riley surprised me when he was using a iPad to automatically flip the pages of his sheet music. Technology being used in this performance just surprised me. After Tao s performance O Riley ask him if he has any other interests besides music. Conrad has a love for rollercoasters. Between riding and researching them, he basically knows all about them. The next gifted musician welcomed to stage is a clarinet player from Spartanburg, South Carolina named Nicholas Graham. I can relate to his instrument very much. Helicopter Parenting Analysis Helicopter parenting is when a parent or guardian is overly concerned, and involved in their child s performance in various activities and their physical well being. As discussed in lecture, this concept largely stems from the idea that the world has become increasingly dangerous since the parents of the millennial generation were children and in turn they over compensate by becoming involved in their children s action and life decisions, both big and small. Correlation Between Income And Infant Mortality Evidence has persisted through the last century that people struggling under the pressures of poverty often experience inferior lifestyles compared to those with higher incomes, however it is less apparent to what degree income can truly affect the overall health and well being of different social classes. This gives the idea of imprisonment for the soul purpose of fulfilling the rings goal, destruction. As Sméagol continues his obsession over the ring, it eats away at him and overpowers any individualism he once had. Tolkien creates the ring as the epitome of evilness to give it a mind of its own. With this symbolism, the ring is able to maneuver itself and corrupt whom it pleases. Analyzing The Aesthetics Of Figure Skating Watching Evgeni Plushenko come to his victory for Russia once again in this Winter Olympics in Vancouver, I found myself realising why figure skating has always been viewed as a very feminine sport. They swing their arms dramatically with constant hand motions and exaggerate their facial expressions. Every single routine is punctuated with these moves. The sparkly and rhinestone covered costumes often look like they were designed for a children s beauty pageant. Dick Button, a gold medalist in 1948 and 52, describes viewing them as being trapped in a windmill in the Metropolitan Opera House costume department. 1 No wonder our society has always viewed figure skating as a softer sport.2 The expressive nature and emphasis on aesthetics of figure skating is what makes it such a soft sport, otherwise described as a sport for girls in this case, girly men. The premise of Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is that, no greater being can be conceived than God. The Ontological Argument is an a priori or deductive argument. An a priori argument does not have to be supported by real or factual evidence just by reason without observation. Thus, the Ontological Argument is not reliant on an a posteriori premise. However, nothing can be imagined greater or more perfect than God. So therefore Anselm believes, God must exist in every possible world. However, Gaunilo and Kant criticize Anselm s Ontological Argument. First, Guanilo believes that Saint Anselm s Ontological Argument is faulty. Regardless that the Ontological Argument is deductively valid, Gaunilo believed there must be something inaccurate with the argument. Gaunilo used a concept of a perfect island, which he shortens to P island. Gaunilo s counter argument is actually in the same format of Anselm s Ontological Argument, which is an a priori argument. The theory of a P island is that no greater island can be thought of. This theory begins the same way as Anselm starts out the Ontological Argument. By paralleling to the Ontological Argument, that no greater being can be thought of greater than God; Gaunelos premise is that, no greater island to be though of than P island. So furthermore, P island is the best possible island. His first premise was, P island is the greatest possible imaginable island. Second was that, if the island doesn t exist in the real world, it is not as perfect as an island that exists in all possible worlds. Then, his result was that a P island is not contingent but exists necessarily. Furthermore, Gaunelo next concluded that the two premises of the P island counter argument are true; but that it doesn t deductively imply the conclusion. He then states that this must ... Analysis of Daystar by Rita Dove Essay While reading the poem Daystar, written by Rita Dove, its readers most likely do not ask thought provoking questions like Why did Dove write this? or What is the true meaning behind this poem? but the poem has deeper meaning than what its outside layer portrays. Dove, an African American woman born in 1952, has not only viewed the racism of the United States society, but she has also seen how gender can or cannot play a role in the advancement of a person s life (Rita Dove: The Poetry Foundation). The poem Daystar not only takes an outside perspective on the everyday life of a woman, but it closely relates to Dove s family history. Daystar comes from a book of poems written by Dove entitled Thomas and Beulah, which tells both the real and unreal stories of Dove s maternal grandparents (Stein 64). Unlike Dove, who grew up during a time of women s rights, her grandmother most likely did not have an admired career as a housewife. In discussing Thomas and Beulah, Stein explains, It is almost painful to witness Thomas and Beulah, two people clearly devoted to each other, continually misinterpret each other s behavior (70). Although Daystar is not necessarily written from an autobiographical perspective, Dove is using the research of her family and her own experiences to welcome us into the lives of the distressed Beulah. Beyond the already mentioned first line about how Beulah wanted a little room for thinking (1), there are many other evidences in the poem that prove this woman desires more than what she currently has. Even today, women are viewed as the main caretakers of their children and the ones who are expected to respond to the domestic duties at home, and this is what Beulah exemplifies. In the next lines of Daystar, obligations of motherhood are further explained as Dove writes, but she saw diapers steaming on the line, /a doll slumped behind the door (2 3). Both the diapers and the doll imply that it is Beulah s job to take care of the laundry and clean up the mess that her children have left behind. Furthermore, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. The Three Types Of Pollution That Affect Humans And Animals I think that the topic pollution is a very important topic to talk about, here is why I think so. There is quite a few types of pollution in the world, but the three main ones I want to address are the types of pollution that affect Humans and animals. The three main types of pollution that can negatively affect humans and animals are air, water, and soil pollution. Air pollution is a type of pollution that occurs when harmful substances, including particulates and biological molecules are introduced into Earth s atmosphere. There is a lot of chemicals that get released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned; the effects that these chemicals have on our bodies when inhaled can be very detrimental to our health and well being. A few things that can occur when we breathe in polluted air are; firstly, you are put at a higher risk of respiratory diseases such as asthma and bronchitis. Second, exposure to higher levels of particle pollution have been shown to correspond to higher risks of heart complications. Third, immune system, endocrine, and reproductive system damage; which can lead to future health complications. Four, when living in an area with lots of air pollution you are being put at higher risks for cancer. The pollutants in the air mostly contain of carcinogens; any substance, radionuclide, or radiation that is an agent directly involved in causing cancer. Five, contact with the air pollution can lead to neurobehavioral problems and premature death. These are a few of the main effects that air pollution has on humans. Air pollution can also negatively affect animals, here are a few ways on how it can. The first way that air pollution can negatively affect animals are from acid rain. Acid rain is an acidic form of rain, meaning that it contains high levels of hydrogen ions; having a low pH balance of around 5.7. The acid rain can destroy the life of fish in lakes and streams. The second way that air pollution can negatively affect animals are, extreme ultraviolet radiation. Being both Jewish and women, just gaining access into the group was difficult but then once they were in, they faced being bound by traditional feminine role and the threat of sexual abuse. Many partisan women though, did not let racism, and sexism define them and proved themselves valuable through their work ethics, skills, and strength. Through several stories we have learned about, we can see the heroism that these women showed and how they broke away from the traditional roles that women were expected to play, shattering the stereotypes that were put on them. The company recognizes that there are problems in the existing personnel selections, so they delegated the committee to address the problem. Some of the strengths include: 6 eye method : This 6 eye method is the newly developed process where three people will be analyzing the qualifications and suitability of the applicants. As people have different judgments and opinions, this provides a just screening of the candidates without any biases or prejudices involved. Although time consuming and costly, this process ensures that all potential and promising candidates will have higher chance of being selected. Phone interviews: This method has been proven to be very cooperative and beneficial to many recruiters. Mercenaries need to be stopped being used because they allow governments to do whatever they please without getting caught. Gilsinan argues, both [drones and private military companies] should be part of the same category, because they allow national governments to get involved in fighting without actually having citizens do it. And that creates moral hazard for policymakers, because it lowers the barriers of entry into conflict (Gilsinan). When Private military contractors are used they break any established laws to complete their mission. Governments use these contractors because they realize that they can get away with breaking international laws by having the mercenaries break them. This is atrocious because if the United States decides to keep using contractors and these private contractors continue to break laws then conflict will appear. When other governments begin to see hired contractors doing what they please they will begin consulting with mercenaries as well. Grabbing people s attention with certain programs can be a hard task to achieve, especially if they don t know your language that well, or they are newcomers to your country. The way I would reach out to the newcomer youth in the Greater Toronto area would be creating a flier to post around schools and public places to promote the program, this way the more instances that people see the flier, the more interested in it they become. Another way of grabbing the attention of newcomers to pull them into coming to our program would be giving out packages explaining to the parents of the children what our program can benefit to their children who are being welcomed into a new country. This makes sure the child s parents are aware of the programs that the YMCA has for them, plus give them a chance to look over and contemplate if they believe it is going to be a good opportunity for their children. Lastly, I would develop a presentation, and go into the schools most populated with newcomer kids to introduce them to the types of programs that they can get involved in.
