Song Of Myself Poem Analysis
As stated above, Song of Myself is one of the original 12 poems from the original publication of
Leaves of Grass that eventually grew to encompass 52 sections of Whitman s expression of what he
believed being an American truly meant in a way that caught to unite all people regardless of who they
were or how they lived their life. The poem is centered around 5 themes, with those 5 being identity,
Whitman s vision of an American in which everyone was equal and united as one, friendship,
spirituality, and sexuality.
The first theme, identity, is perhaps the most central theme of the poem, despite the word itself only
appearing in the poem a handful of times. To elaborate, Whitman was drawn to the idea of the
transcendentalist principal of the oversoul the soul that is connected to the souls of everyone on this
earth; in his mind, private experiences and thoughts were nonexistent, instead, he believed that he
experienced the pain and suffering as well as the joys and pleasures of the natural world and all of its
inhabitance because he is connected to them by the oversoul and thereby was at one with them, or so
to speak. This belief is greatly reflected through the poem, although, a good example of such can be
seen in the first section of the poem, in which he states that he celebrates himself and assumes what
you(the reader) shall assume because for every atom belonging to me as good belonging to you ; when
he says he celebrates himself , he is actually referring

The Steam Engine And The Industrial Revolution
Steam Engine The Industrial Revolution took place from the 18th to the 19th centuries. The Industrial
Revolution was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America
became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution which began in Britain in the late
1700s, manufacturing was often done in people s homes, using handtools or basic machines.
Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special purpose machinery, factories and mass production.
The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in
the Industrial Revolution. The way the iron and textile industries and the development of the steam
engine played central roles in the Industrial Revolution is the things they led to such as improved
systems of transportation, communication and banking. The invention of the steam engine happened
in 1698 by Thomas Savery. The first invention of the steam engine was not quite called the steam
engine, it was actually first called water by fire . It was called water by fire because it was first used to
pump water out from the mines. The water by fire worked by boiling water until it was completely
converted into vapor. The steam was then collected in a tank extracting every droplet of vapor from
the original tank, thereby creating a vacuum in the original container. It was this vacuum that was
employed to produce an adequate amount of energy to pump water out from the mines. The

Workaholic Deviance Examples
A perfect comedy show that I chose is called Workaholics, it s based off three main characters named
Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, and Anders Holm. The characters met in college and after dropping
out they decided to move in together and continued to act as if they are still in college, such as doing
pranks, binge drinking and throwing parties at their house. From a functionalist perspective, their
harmonious relationship that share the same norms would be an example of social cohesion.
Additionally, they work in a small cubicle office at a telemarketing place, but with their disruptive
behavior they cause a lot of trouble with their coworkers and boss. The TV show demonstrates the
three adults as immature and irrational which is a good example ... Show more content on

deviance. By the time the group had a violent conflict with each other because of substance abuse the

that sending them into the program, it will eventually change their old addictive behavior that is
considered deviant to a more normative behavior after completing the

Essay on Discourse in A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man
Authoritative Discourse in A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man
In James Joyce s A Portrait of An Artist As A Young Man, the main character, Stephen Dedalus,
struggles between his natural instincts, or what Bakhtin calls the internally persuasive discourse that
[is not] backed up by [an] authority at all , and his learned response, reinforced by the authoritative
discourse of religion. To Stephen s internally persuasive discourse , his natural sex drive is not wrong .
It is only after he succumbs to the authoritative discourse of religion that he learns that such a natural
human drive is bad . Thus, he learns that it is wrong to succumb to sex: he does not think that it is bad
on his own. In this case, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This struggle also causes Stephen to realize the futility of the fight between his internally persuasive
discourse of natural drives and the authoritative discourse of religion. His awareness of being fallible
to his sense of touch causes Stephen to realize that his natural drives take a stronger hold of him than
do the constraining norms of religion.
But it was to the mortification of touch that he brought the most assiduous ingenuity of inventiveness
(163).
It is the most difficult task for Stephen to deny his sense of touch. His sense of touch requires him to
come up with the most [...] inventiveness . This is shown in Stephen s forcing himself to endure the
raw morning wind on his way to the Mass: the cold air scorches him and, thus, by feeling the raw air,
Stephen wishes he did not have to feel at all. He also punishes himself for such a strong sense of touch
when he attempts to sleep without movement in his bed. It is not surprising, however, that Stephen
does these masochistic things to himself: he does it because he has been taught that any expression of
a natural inclination is labeled wrong by the society, or by the authoritative discourse of religion. By
restricting his senses, Stephen does not only lose his identity, since his reliance on his senses
constructs his personality, but he also imprisons himself in a world, which he needs eventually to
escape.

The Theme Of Escapism In The Swing By Robert Louis Frost
The poem presents to us the theme of escapism, as the child pictured in the poem escapes the harsh
adult world by swinging on the swing, and imagining herself/ himself in the sky. The last line of the
poem proves to us that what the author wrote as down is actually the adult world and the harsh reality
we live in Up in the air and down! This poem encourages readers; it is telling them that you don t need
feathers to fly. All you need to have is imagination to achieve the goal your mind wants. Even though
the poem is about the simplicity of child s mind, it teaches us something. It teaches us how to use and
adorn our imaginative world. It is important for us to have imaginative power as it is necessary in this
busy world. Sometimes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frost uses a lot of imagery, for example in Shattering and avalanching . The writer tends to use a
number of extended metaphors, for example in Soon the sun s warmth makes them shed crystal shells
Shattering and avalanching on the snow crust he then turns the metaphor into an extended metaphor
by adding a new metaphor Such heaps of broken glass to sweep away . The swing doesn t use as many
literary devices. The poem s main theme is obviously escapism. That is why it is similar to Robert
Louis Stevenson s poem The Swing . The boy in Frost s poem is symbolic to the character, as it is
something that the man likes to imagine during his tough days or to escape from reality. Frost, just like
Stevenson, highlights the importance of imagination in our lives, and how it can help us during hard
times. The word Swing is not only the swinging of birches, or swinging up and down, it is a swing
from the reality towards imagination, towards heaven, away from the

The Race to Space Essay
The Race to Space
The tension that existed between the U.S. and Russia during the years after WWII was not only a time
that both countries patiently tried to keep the world from another war, but was also a time of great
rivalry in the exploration of space. As both counties diligently experimented with plans for creating a
way to get into the vastness of space, spies on both sides were already in place to steal those ideas.
And so the space race begun. Both countries wanted to be the first to succeed so millions were spent
as the world watched as the U.S. and Russia went head to head in a battle that would change the world
forever. The space race began with the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957 as Roy Silver and other

several small satellites, which was to begin July 1, 1957. Within a couple days, the Russians

1957, the official Soviet press suggested the first launch was months away. Few people in the United
States paid much attention to the prediction though. On October 4, 1957, Sputnik lifted off. Sputnik
was only in orbit for three weeks, but those who tracked it gained valuable information about the
destiny of the upper atmosphere and the manner in which it altered the satellite s orbit. On January 4,
1958, after ninety two days in orbit, Sputnik I re entered the Earth s atmosphere and burned up. On
November 3, 1957, the USSR launched Sputnik II. It was a much heavier satellite, which carried the
first living mammal into space. It was a dog named Laika. Laika died after ten days in space. Some of
the information sent from the satellite showed that Laika was alive until there was no more oxygen left

Question
1 Question
1.)
One of the responses people usually have about
Oedipus
is if he really deserved the fate that he ended up with.
It s
not his fault that
Jocasta
and Laius tried to outsmart fate and dispose of him. In trying to run from this prophecy, did he really
do anything any other person, given the culture, wouldn t have done? Is Oedipus a victim of fate or is
he responsible for the choices he makes?
What
does
Sophocles
suggest?
What
do you think?

There are definitely two arguments on whether or not
Oedipus
had fallen to fate or made his own decisions, but if you think about it, the prophecy stated literally
everything that was going to happen, and maybe it would not had happened if Oedipus did not seek
out everything because the prophecy only unfolded when he began to venture out and look for the
problem trying to solve his own problems. Him doing this unraveled something much worse and is
what led him to his banishment, so if you think about it, maybe fate did bring him to this terrible
ending, but how can we be for sure because he did make these decisions himself.
Jocasta
and
Laius
were the two to blame for believing in such a thing and leaving their child to die a terrible death, only
to come back and have the prophecy happen anyways. King
Laius
sought out the prophecy and found out that their son
(if
they had one), would eventually kill him.
He
did not want this so he gave up his son for adoption. Oedipus got into an altercation and ended up
killing his birth father even after he sought out the prophecy as well only to find out that he would still
end up killing his father.

Chris Perez wanted to be a rock star in a Rock n Roll band not a guitar player for a Tejano band. He

Selena y los Dinos. In Huston, Texas Shelly s band was playing at a festival and A.B. Quintanilla,
Selena s brother saw Chris playing guitar and liked Chris s guitar skills. During that time Selena y los
Dinos was looking for a new guitarist and A.B. gave Chris his number just so Chris can call him if he
was interested. Chris called A.B and set up a date to play together in the studio, since that day
happened Chris joined los Dinos. Chris was never close to Selena the only interaction he has with her
was on stage when he played the guitar. The most interaction he had with her was talking to her to
know what songs and they were going to be performed. On the trip back from Acapulco Selena sat
next to Chris and held his hand when he was freaking out because he was on an airplane. Since that
moment Chris felt like he had a special connected with Selena. Once they were on tour they kept a
secret relationship going on nobody knew about this relationship. Little by little everyone in the band
started finding out about the relationship except Selena s father the manager of the band. Chris went
through some rough time while he was in the band which he got in trouble with the law. Abraham,

Essay On Pyloric Stenosis
Pyloric stenosis, also known as infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS), is the most common
cause of intestinal obstruction in infancy. Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis occurs secondary to
hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the muscular layers of the pylorus, causing a functional gastric outlet
obstruction (Singh and Bechtel, 2015). The pylorus connects the stomach to the small intestine. When
a pyloric stenosis occurs, the pylorus swells and thickens (DeNoon, 2014). At this point, experts don t
know what causes pyloric stenosis; however, it may be passed down through families (DeNoon,
2014). Another source states, It may be a combination of several factors; for example, the use of

The Roaring Twenties
The dawning of the 1920 s in America left a need in the citizens hearts to return to a state of normalcy
after the devastating effects of the Great War. However, the new era of isolationism spawned a cultural
revolution that can only be described as anything but normal . Heavy losses over seas left Americans
turned off to problems occurring outside of United States borders. As the citizens averted their eyes
from the problems of the world, they were left to focus their attention of forming the spectacular sense
of moral freedom of the decade. The economy flourished as well.Wall Street became an enormous
success as the introduction of credit dazzled the American people. The colossal factories which had
supplied weapons and war machinery now churned out the automobiles, radios, and abundant
excitement which would go on to define the era. The isolationist attitude also led away from the idea
of the whole and people found themselves focusing on their own needs and wants, which emphasized
the adolescent nature of the United States. The post war, isolationist minds of Americans in the roaring
twenties focused on the dream of total freedom as they strove towards liberation in their daily lives,
and were represented by the authors of the modernist fiction era.
Throughout the 1920 s decade, Americans were a part of the fevered frenzy that accompanied the
dream of total freedom; a dream that encompassed the ideas of rebellion and equality. Lucy Moore,
author of Anything Goes;

Male Hysteria In The 1800s
When the male doctors of the 1800s first introduced the idea of male hysteria, they made great
concessions. The attitudes, actions, and personality traits associated with males during that time period
were so vastly different from the present day. They were thought to be the sole provider, protector,
strong, and self reliant no displays of weakness or submissiveness were allowed. Contradictions
between established physicians and neurologists debated in the medical world whether or not it
existed.
In Hystories: Hysterical Epidemics and Modern Media by Elaine Showalter, she writes that Jean
Martin Charcot, who was also known as the founder of modern neurology , stated that hysteria was

Willis, who was known for his part in neurology and psychiatry in the 1600s, focused on a different
body part of the human body the brain. Mind and body met somehow and interacted in and through
the brain and the nervous system, and the animal spirits that Willis viewed as commanding and
controlling the body were powerful agents whose derangement could be invoked to explain all manner
of illness and pathology (Scull 25). The animal spirits would be considered in contemporary day, the
nerve impulses; Willis essentially distances himself from the uterus idea touches on the contemporary
function of the brain. However, as history tends to repeat and cycle around itself and we are led from a
logic explanation to an irrational one. Cecilia Tasca, Mariangela Rapetti, Mauro Giovanni Carta, and
Bianca Fadda who authored Women And Hysteria In The History Of Mental Health wrote about
Joseph Raulin. Roughly translated, Raulin wrote a book in the 1700s titled Vaporus Sex Disorder that
described hysteria as a disease caused by foul air of big cities and unruly social life ; furthermore, he
states that men and women can suffer from this disease, but women are further predisposed for their
natural condition of being lazy and irritable (Cecilia et al. 4). By writing this piece, Raulin further
perpetuates the sexism, stereotypes, gender roles, and classism.

Caryl Phillips The Nature of Blood Essay
Caryl Phillips The Nature of Blood
On its most immediate level, Caryl Phillips The Nature of Blood narrates several stories of the Jewish
Diaspora, using the familiar Shakespearean character Othello to provide a counterpoint to the others
experiences of displacement. The Nature of Blood thus initially seems to fit awkwardly among texts
by other West Indian authors who use the Caribbean as the setting of their work or incorporate West
Indian characters into their work. Through his multi stranded narrative, however, Phillips creates a
geographical setting that mirrors the multi regional influence of the Caribbean. The triangular space of
Europe, the Middle East, and Africa shaped by the character s stories parallels the historical ... Show

This triangular situation of spaces in turn allows Phillips, while not specifically addressing the region,
to explore the condition of the Caribbean diaspora.
The first narrative of The Nature of Blood unsettles the existence of geographical home by
questioning optimistic views of settlement. Stephan opens the novel, explaining plans for the creation
of the new state of Israel to Moshe, a Romanian Holocaust survivor. Their dialogue reveals Moshe s
unease with the claim to Israel as a new Jewish state, even as Stephan expresses optimism: Tell me,
what will be the name of the country? Our country, I said. The country will belong to you too (Phillips
3). While Stephan insists upon claiming Israel both for himself and Moshe, Moshe resists this
possessiveness, hence his inquiry about the country rather than his country. Even after Stephan asserts
that Moshe has as much stake in Israel as the other settlers, Moshe hesitates, failing even to remember
the name of the new country. At the same time that Stephan and Moshe s dialogue questions
resettlement, the prose of the novel s opening establishes Moshe as part of a diasporic population. The
narrator describes Moshe as one of the

first words he writes are, You don t know how much I needed to hear from you (6). This opening
sentence jolts Sonny s brother into realizing that at the moment his brother needed him the most, he
did not even bother to at least acknowledge him.
Before passing away, the narrator s mother made him promise to always take care of Sonny: You got

angry at Sonny s decisions to take heroin and consequently get arrested. This anger that he holds is
preventing him from fulfilling his promise and his responsibility; however, when he receives the letter
from Sonny stating, You don t know how much I needed you , the anger dissipates and he realizes that
his younger brother is in need of guidance and love rather than anger and ignorance.

Neen Cain Analysis
In the video that was assigned to us a woman by the name Tonier Neen Cain discussed her life story
and the struggles she went through. She was born into a broken family with a mother that was an
alcoholic and brutally beat her growing up. She was arrested 83 times and had 66 criminal convictions
relating to her addiction. She got pregnant in 2004, and entered into a trauma treatment program. This
program began to transform her life and the way she thought about herself. One of the main factors
that I felt made her to the lifestyle she picked was the relationship she had with her mother. The
mother wanted very little with her and her sense of self worth was greatly harmed because of this
occurrence. She would seek to find her mother s affection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I certainly don t believe that to be the case. I believe that there are people who face sexual abuse and
beating that turn to sports to get their frustration out on or music to sooth their soul. I wouldn t classify
everyone that endures these awful conditions to revert to drugs as their only means of escaping. I don t
believe they all become criminals but of their environment. Their have been plenty of good people that
I have met who have been the product of parents who did drugs and were drunks that made it just fine.
They went off to college and found that they wanted a better life then what they experienced with their
parents. I think that the most influential factor is the person he or she looks up to. They need a older
mentor to look up to and teach them the right way. They need someone to invest in them so they know
that someone cares about how they are doing in life. They need to have someone to fall back on who
will pick them up on their feet and tell them its okay to fall as long as you get back up. A strong bond
with someone to me is such an important factor in how someone turns out. You have to think that
while yes they may have horrible parents they may some day be parents and have no idea what to do.
They never had a person in their life acting as a parent and therefore, they don t know how they should
in that role. They are at a disadvantage when it comes to parental roles if they didn t

Ali Hale Writing Process Analysis
In this week s article, the author, Ali Hale wrote about the five steps of the writing process. These
steps includes prewriting, writing, revising, editing and publishing. Prewriting is the first step of the
writing process, this step allows the writer to form ideas and write them down. Once they get an idea
of what to write, they can either brainstorm or free write. Brainstorm means writing down any ideas
that comes to mind on a piece of paper with the main idea in the center. These ideas can be subtopics
or directions to the article. On the other hand, free write is when the writer starts writing their ideas
down about the topic and not worry about grammar, spelling and punctuations. After the writer is done

Auto Mechanics
Auto Mechanic Most of my spare time is spent looking at anything and everything involving cars so it
stood to reason that I would be interested in learning how they work. The following pages will
describe what I ve learned while doing the necessary reading. The responsibilities and specific work of
this occupation is, using computers to identify problems, test parts and systems to make sure they
work correctly, follow lists to ensure all parts are examined, perform basic maintenance, including
changing oil, checking fluid levels, and tires, explain the problems and repairs to clients(Automotive

depending on position and skills you could make your own schedule. A career in this field would
affect my family life in many ways. The first way would obviously be the schedule. The second is in
the knowledge I would gain. My education in automotive repair could be used to help my family and
friends and possibly save them money. My family life could also be affected by financial rewards.

Dreams In Bless Me Ultima By Rudolfo Anaya
Dreams have many meanings some come in various different forms. Some dreams have very deep
meanings while others are just simply a product of your imagination. For example some people
experience Deja Vu. Deja Vu is when you have a dream of something and then it comes to life. People
who have had Deja Vu have been very surprised. A dream is a product of your imagination some are
just entertaining while others might be viewed as life lessons. Some dreams have deeper meanings
into them, you just have to look for them. For example some people have been having dreams of
going to a certain place then the next morning they end up in the same exact place. When you arrive at
the place you will have a certain feeling like you have been here before then you will remember that
your dreamed about it. Dreams have so much to to do with your imagination but some are no product
of your imagination but a product of reality. Dreams have many meanings they might be good, bad,
and scary ,whatever they are they are still a product of you. Likewise In Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo

Alexander was born around 356 B.C. His mother was of royal lineage, as was his father, Philip II.
When Alexander was fourteen, he studied under the Athenian philosopher, Aristotle. Perhaps no
culture has ever produced a greater mind than Aristotle s. So searching and profound was Aristotle s
work that in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries A.D. much of the Christian church regarded his
teachings as being divinely inspired. No subject was untouched by his contemplation. Philosophy,
botany, geography, zoology, astronomy, and art were all subjects of deep concern for him. Aristotle

The Persian advance guard, lightly armed and unaccustomed to Macedonian tactics, was

resounding victory spurred him to strike at the heart of the empire itself. This was no madcap venture.
Darius III, the Persian king, was a poor leader and his provincial officials were unreliable. The
unwieldy empire was ready to fall in pieces. The victory at the Granicus River quickly opened the
towns of Sardis, Ephesus, and Miletus to Alexander s conquest. Miletus was the traditional birthplace
of Hellenic philosophy; Sardis and Ephesus would play significant roles in the New Testament church.
(Packer) In the next year, Alexander moved on Gordium, the capital of Phrygia. The goal of this

Ethnography Of Women In Islam
The essay I wrote about was based on the experiences of Women in Islam which is consist of a group

Muslim identities and the negative effects that comes with being a Muslim in America. The main
reason why I decided to study this group of students and use them as my ethnography topic was
because I am part of the group and I can relate with what they are going through for the mere fact of

Disadvantages Of Science In Bhutan
Science is a body of knowledge that helps the learners to know about oneself and understand the
nature of the world that surrounds them. According to Feynman (1968) science is the beauty and the
wonder of the world that is discovered through experiencing the real things that surrounds us. Thus, it
is certainly a very mesmerizing subject to learn as it arouses children s curiosity about the nature and
whatever happens in our day to day life. Therefore, science is equally considered as one of the
important subject like any other subjects in Bhutan.

my view of the world, but solidified vague ideas I already had about my values, passions, and the

A play written by Sophocles circa 445 B.C., Antigone, depicts the tragedy of a young woman who
stands firm against an obstinate new ruling force her uncle Creon, in what was right by her family and
her gods in antithesis to that which was better for her country. The altercation involves the burial of

Persuasive Essay On Older Adults
In today s society, the older adults are often left behind and forgotten about. Society is often less
concerned about this population when they should be more concerned. As discussed above, as some
transition into later life, it is almost like they are entering a new world that they must readjust to. They
have to get comfortable in their new living environment, sometimes without their spouse and with
fewer friends and family members around. As a society, if we don t start monitoring this population,
the high rates will continue to rise and more older adults will continue to self harm which will lead to
a huge social justice matter. In order to advocate for this population, we must first educate those who
are not aware. I think it would be beneficial to start small programs or fairs throughout different
communities where families can be educated on exactly what to look for and how they can care more
for their older adult family members. In order to make this possible, resources are need. Educators,
physicians and social workers can all come together to provide the necessary curriculum to those
being educated. Certain policies should also be in place that will prevent the misuse of prescription
drugs. Instead of quickly responding to chronic pain with medicine, maybe other things should be in
place such as physical therapy or natural herbs, to help those individuals work through their pain. As
older adults visit health care more often, physicians should take time for screening

Essay On Myasthenia Gravis
Myasthenia Gravis Damage to the neuromuscular junctions is due to an autoimmune disease called
myasthenia graves. The motor end plates, which are located on skeletal muscles, are affected because
there is a decrease in the amount of Ach receptors located on the motor end plate, which is connected
to the neuromuscular junction. The decrease is due to the unnecessary production of antibodies, which
bind to the motor end plate. This prevents Ach from binding to the receptors to carry out a synapse
between the skeletal muscle and a neuron, leading to a stop or weakening of muscle contraction. The
decrease in the amounts of synapses cause the skeletal muscle to lose function, become weaker, and
tire more easily. Men and women are both at risk for developing myasthenia gravis, but the disease is
more prevalent in women. However, the age of diagnosis varies. Men typically receive their diagnosis
between the ages of 50 and 60 years old; women are usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40
years old. There is no known research to conclude if a particular race is at a higher disadvantage to

system s attack on the motor end plates. To stop developing tumors on their thymus, patients might opt
to have their thymus removed by a procedure called a thymectomy. Another procedure that can be
done is a plasmapheresis, which reduces the number of antibodies in the blood so there are more open
receptors for Ach to bind to. However, it is important to know that treatment varies from patient to
patient and no patient is the same with this

Essay On Indentured Servants
Indentured Servitude as a Catalyst for Colonial Success The colonies were better able to adapt to the
New World and all of its trials through the use of indentured servants. Indentured servitude gave
colonists access to the new freedoms they may not have had otherwise in Britain while giving colonies
such as Virginia a chance at success. The New World involved challenges that the colonists never
could have imagined including but not limited to disease, crop differences, and Native Americans with
very different lifestyles. Colonial Growth by means of Indentured Servants Over half of the white
immigrants that arrived to the British Colonies were able to make the passage through agreeing to
indentured servitude. Indentured servants exchanged several years of labor for the cost of passage to
America and the grant of land. During the seventeenth century, indentured servants provided most of

little options for freed servants. A large majority of freed servants during this time had to choose

With the beginnings of colonies such as New England, the need for indentured servitude throughout
British America began to decline. In New England a large portion of the settlers were middle class.
Besides even the class level of those who settled in New England, the area was a much easier place to

Normally, if an individual is already immunosuppressed by another health issue, the addition HIV can

Social And Legal Implications Of Driverless Cars
By definition, an autonomous vehicle, or driverless car, is one that is able to navigate terrain without
the need for human input but human input is also an option. It is undeniably possible that we will see
driverless cars on roads around the world at some point in the not so distant future. It has been stated
that the next generation of vehicles, such as BMW s self driving prototype, could be available within
the next decade and that within that decade Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan, Volvo, and Audi all plan to
develop and sell some form of advanced automation (Knight, 2013). However, before they are rolled

Driverless cars would be able to take safety features such as these to a more advanced level that would
automatically make manoeuvres such as changing lanes suddenly or automatically slowing down at
higher speeds. For example, when driving through heavy fog, the driver would find it difficult to see
an oncoming traffic jam whereas an autonomous vehicle s (AV) sensors would be alerted and would
automatically slow the car down and alert the driver as to what was ahead. This system would also be
useful if a driver was travelling on unfamiliar roads: the AV would be programmed as to the optimum
speed to travel at certain times, eradicating the risk of an accident due to human error. A study by
Benenson et al highlights that vehicle to vehicle communication may be an effective way of increasing
safety with AV s: cars would communicate with each other their plans of direction and position to
ensure no collisions occurred. This reduce in road traffic accidents would also largely reduce other
societal costs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that in the US in 2012, crash
injuries totalled costs of $18 billion and $33bn in work lost (CDC, 2014). In the UK, the Department
for Transport suggests that, allowing for accidents that have not been reported to police, the total value

Howl By Ginsberg Essay
Constraints of Confinement
Trumpets blaring, bass booming, heads swaying to the beat in a tiny jazz club. Creativity is flowing
and the Beat Poets of the 1950s are unknowingly establishing a counterculture movement, one that
challenges the social norms and politics of their time and even transcends generations to remain
relevant today. Poets like Jack Kerouac, William Seward Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Allen
Ginsberg were heavily influenced by jazz, adopting their seedy dress, manners, and hip vocabulary (
Beat Movement ) that changed their lifestyle and helped write their poetry. Specifically, Allen
Ginsberg s poem Howl, is often regarded as the anthem of 1950s Beats ( Howl | Poem by Ginsberg ), a
poem unstructured and free flowing to reflect Ginsberg s experiences. In Howl, Allen Ginsberg uses
unique language and changes his tone throughout the poem in an attempt to break the constraints of
confinement and seek his own forms of freedom.
From the outset of Howl, Part I takes on a tone of delirium as the Beat Poets, sometimes referred to as
the best minds or simply they , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ginsberg shows that the American river represents capitalism and how it washes away the creativity
by exclaiming, Visions! omens! hallucinations! miracles! ecstasies! gone down the American River!
(line 90). Essentially, all good things like the visions and ecstasy has been washed away and people
have become constrained by the capitalist institution that is America. The tone of anger prevails in
particularly in line 91, describing dreams, adorations, and illuminations as the whole boatload of
sensitive bullshit that no one seems to care about. This metaphor is extremely important to the overall
theme of breaking the constraints of confinement because the capitalistic society of America is in itself
confining the creative thinkers that make up the Beat

The Dangers of Child Work Force Essays
Child work force has been a problem for more than 100 years, some of our older generations have
been working for most of their life. Some kids have been working for most of their lives some of their
parents don t even work these kids get low money some of their parents sale them. Some of these kids
don t even have parents they are just wandering around streets looking for jobs. Some of these kids are
working in hazard jobs and domestic labour and carpet weaving and other horrible jobs and these kids
and not only missing out of their education but their health is at stake.Child Labour is increasing day
by day and it s because there s a lot of poor countries and some of these childrens parent is some times
ill so they can t work but that still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For some work, children receive no payment, only food and a place to sleep. Children in informal
sector work receive no payment if they are injured or become ill, and can seek no protection if they
suffer violence or are maltreated by their employer.(Child Labour)And sometime some of these kids
are very sick and have conditions but they still work hard like in Mexico some of the kids that are
asking for money they are usually working for someone like if you give them food they will tell you
that they want money not food that s when you know they are working for someone and something
those people are are very mean and the usually don t feed them and/or they whip them. Some of these
kids don t even know how to write and/or read like some of these kids 2 out of 10 know how to read
and/or write.Over 8.4 million kids are working right now some of them are working in the streets and
others are working in the fields and others are forced to become terrorist slaves some of these kids are
forced to become maids. All child labour, and especially the worst forms, should be eliminated. It not
only undermines the roots of human nature and rights but also threatens future social and economic
progress worldwide. Trade, competitiveness and economic efficiency should not be a pretext for this
abuse. Toolkit for mainstreaming employment and decent work/United Nations System Chief

Research Paper On Coach Kon
Notre Dame Football: Coach Kelly and Staff
NCAA college football enthusiasts are already placing Notre Dame out of the running at a spot in the
College Football Playoff, after their 41 8 loss on a Saturday night. The Fighting Irish immediately
dropped from the No.3 top NCAA college team to No. 8. Surprisingly, the Miami Hurricanes (8 0, 6 0
Atlantic Coast Conference) quickly ran through their opponents to face off the Notre Dame leaders (8
1) within the Hard Rock Stadium in front of the mighty 65,000 fans.
Frankly, everyone is jumping to blame Head Coach Brian Kelly, according to Stephen Brooks of
HeraldBulletin. Coach Kelly declared that the atmosphere was so volatile in Miami s grasp. Sports
Journalist Stephen Brooks mentions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coach Kelly recommends his coaching strategies for Notre Dame; successfully graduating players and
seeking those National Championships. According to the NDInsider, his backs are well back at
strengthening their own performance levels, in order to play harder for the Irish. Now, it is up to the
fans to notice just how advance the Notre Dame team can play during future, hard nosed competitions.
QB Red shirt Sophomore Brandon Wimbush two interceptions; sacked five times; and benched,
during the Miami game. * FYI: QG Wimbush experienced a devastating blinding sided blow (i.e., a
cause to hand contusion) to his left hand, while playing against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
However, that particular ND away game ended in a 48 37 victory for the Irish. Afterwards, Coach
Kelly mentioned the solution of wearing a padded glove to protect Wimbush s non throwing hand, in
order to protect his valuable quarterback from sort of ill effects, according to NBC Reports. However,
according to investigations, tendons may be damaged and still be ignored to as extent. Unfortunately,
if this foreseen, injury is not doctored to the point of non participation, a player s conditions may
worsen. Fans and football enthusiasts are keeping an eye on this kind of matter. It takes weeks and
even months to

Third Force Training Research Paper
The fitness industry is very versatile. There are trainers who focus on many different aspects of
fitness. This includes cardio, resistance training, fat loss, yoga, pilates, trx equipment training,
kickboxing and martial arts...the list goes on and on. With a such a wide variety of diverse principles
and disciplines that can offered to a large spectrum of people, every trainer should ask him or her self,
How can I go that extra mile? What can I do to motivate at one person to get up and delibrately work
up a sweat? The answer is simple; It s up to people like me, to exhibit a level of discipline, patience,
and knowledge, that will enable us to not only educate the masses, but to also help others understand

I know that I can challenge other trainers to step their game up, because ultimately, all that matters is
how that trainee feels. Is that person recieving enough positive energy to stay motivated? Is that
person being pushed enough to break past plateu s and are they seeing feeling progress? Half of that is
done in the gym, yes. The other half is up to the trainer to challenge that client to change their
mentality. I try my hardest to help others realize that everyday should be used to better themselves.
Time is limited on this earth, so its vital that we utilize every waking moment to get one step closer to
accomplishing a goal, whether that s shaving a couple minutes off your mile time, or cutting out soda
s so that you drink more water throughout the day, or saving money for that dream. It all can be
achieved through patience and discipline. That s what I m teaching the people that I work

International Adoption
Running head: INTERNATIONAL AND INTERCOUNTRY ADOPTION
International and Intercountry Adoption
The University of Akron
International and Intercountry Adoption
The birth of a child represents a milestone in the life of families. For those who are not able to
conceive a child by natural means, adoption often comes as an alternative and rewarding way to build
a family and fulfill individuals desire to experience parenthood. Whether for biological or personal
reasons, many have taken the path to adoption despite the fact that they are able to have their own
biological child. Others have taken this remarkable road based on values or altruism. Whatever the
reason, family dynamics change with the arrival of a child and counseling poses ... Show more content

At times families wish to adopt from the country of the family s own ethnic origin, or they may be
familiar with others who have successfully adopted overseas. The research also suggests that the
major reason families choose to adopt international is the manner in which most international
adoptions are conducted; a process that minimizes the threat that a child could be offered to potential
parents and then withdrawn. International birth parents transfer their parental rights to a third party
adoption agency or orphanage before the adoptive parents get involved in the process. This may not be
the case with domestic adoptions, mainly when a child is expected, but not yet born. Birth parents may
change their minds about adopting out their child during the period before the adoption is finalized
(Fain, n.d., http://ezinearticles.com/?The Pros And Cons Of International Adoption amp;id=533106).
Thus, one can conclude that this can be a terrifying prospect for would be parents to contemplate, and
adoptive parents who wish to reduce this possibility may prefer international adoption or may
otherwise work only to identify candidate children who have already been placed in an orphanage or
foster program. In addition, some adoptive parents find that international restrictions on who may
adopt (with regard to age, finances, etc.) may be less severe, making it more likely their

Difference Between Endothtermic And Exothermic
The goal of this experiment was to preform a series of reactions to determine the change in
temperature that which would conclude whether the chemical reactions were endothermic or
exothermic. The original hypothesis was that each of the reactions, except for the reaction between
solid magnesium and hydrochloric acid, would be endothermic, and the remainder would be
exothermic. This hypothesis was disproven during laboratory experiments to conclude that each of the
reactions were exothermic except for the reaction between water and ammonium chloride which was
endothermic. In Table 1, the heat of solution data collected from ammonium chloride and sodium
carbonate are indicative of how acid base and dissolution reactions yield certain results. The reaction
between ammonium chloride and water is a dissolution reaction in which ammonia and hydronium is
produced from the breaking of ionic bonds in ammonium chloride from the water. In this reaction, the
breaking of ionic bonds in the reactants released more energy than the formation of new bonds in the
products, thus causing a negative temperature change characteristic of an endothermic reaction. The
reaction between sodium carbonate and water was an acid base reaction in which the water acted as a
base to neutralize the acid, sodium carbonate. The energy that was released in the reactants was less
than that absorbed in the products, causing for a positive temperature change to show an exothermic
reaction. The types of reactions

  • 2. Song Of Myself Poem Analysis As stated above, Song of Myself is one of the original 12 poems from the original publication of Leaves of Grass that eventually grew to encompass 52 sections of Whitman s expression of what he believed being an American truly meant in a way that caught to unite all people regardless of who they were or how they lived their life. The poem is centered around 5 themes, with those 5 being identity, Whitman s vision of an American in which everyone was equal and united as one, friendship, spirituality, and sexuality. The first theme, identity, is perhaps the most central theme of the poem, despite the word itself only appearing in the poem a handful of times. To elaborate, Whitman was drawn to the idea of the transcendentalist principal of the oversoul the soul that is connected to the souls of everyone on this earth; in his mind, private experiences and thoughts were nonexistent, instead, he believed that he experienced the pain and suffering as well as the joys and pleasures of the natural world and all of its inhabitance because he is connected to them by the oversoul and thereby was at one with them, or so to speak. This belief is greatly reflected through the poem, although, a good example of such can be seen in the first section of the poem, in which he states that he celebrates himself and assumes what you(the reader) shall assume because for every atom belonging to me as good belonging to you ; when he says he celebrates himself , he is actually referring ... • 3. The Steam Engine And The Industrial Revolution Steam Engine The Industrial Revolution took place from the 18th to the 19th centuries. The Industrial Revolution was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution which began in Britain in the late 1700s, manufacturing was often done in people s homes, using handtools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special purpose machinery, factories and mass production. The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the Industrial Revolution. The way the iron and textile industries and the development of the steam engine played central roles in the Industrial Revolution is the things they led to such as improved systems of transportation, communication and banking. The invention of the steam engine happened in 1698 by Thomas Savery. The first invention of the steam engine was not quite called the steam engine, it was actually first called water by fire . It was called water by fire because it was first used to pump water out from the mines. The water by fire worked by boiling water until it was completely converted into vapor. The steam was then collected in a tank extracting every droplet of vapor from the original tank, thereby creating a vacuum in the original container. It was this vacuum that was employed to produce an adequate amount of energy to pump water out from the mines. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The characters met in college and after dropping out they decided to move in together and continued to act as if they are still in college, such as doing pranks, binge drinking and throwing parties at their house. From a functionalist perspective, their harmonious relationship that share the same norms would be an example of social cohesion. Additionally, they work in a small cubicle office at a telemarketing place, but with their disruptive behavior they cause a lot of trouble with their coworkers and boss. The TV show demonstrates the three adults as immature and irrational which is a good example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Essay on Discourse in A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man Authoritative Discourse in A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man In James Joyce s A Portrait of An Artist As A Young Man, the main character, Stephen Dedalus, struggles between his natural instincts, or what Bakhtin calls the internally persuasive discourse that [is not] backed up by [an] authority at all , and his learned response, reinforced by the authoritative discourse of religion. To Stephen s internally persuasive discourse , his natural sex drive is not wrong . It is only after he succumbs to the authoritative discourse of religion that he learns that such a natural human drive is bad . Thus, he learns that it is wrong to succumb to sex: he does not think that it is bad on his own. In this case, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This struggle also causes Stephen to realize the futility of the fight between his internally persuasive discourse of natural drives and the authoritative discourse of religion. His awareness of being fallible to his sense of touch causes Stephen to realize that his natural drives take a stronger hold of him than do the constraining norms of religion. But it was to the mortification of touch that he brought the most assiduous ingenuity of inventiveness (163). It is the most difficult task for Stephen to deny his sense of touch. His sense of touch requires him to come up with the most [...] inventiveness . This is shown in Stephen s forcing himself to endure the raw morning wind on his way to the Mass: the cold air scorches him and, thus, by feeling the raw air, Stephen wishes he did not have to feel at all. He also punishes himself for such a strong sense of touch when he attempts to sleep without movement in his bed. It is not surprising, however, that Stephen does these masochistic things to himself: he does it because he has been taught that any expression of a natural inclination is labeled wrong by the society, or by the authoritative discourse of religion. By restricting his senses, Stephen does not only lose his identity, since his reliance on his senses constructs his personality, but he also imprisons himself in a world, which he needs eventually to escape. • 6. The Theme Of Escapism In The Swing By Robert Louis Frost The poem presents to us the theme of escapism, as the child pictured in the poem escapes the harsh adult world by swinging on the swing, and imagining herself/ himself in the sky. The last line of the poem proves to us that what the author wrote as down is actually the adult world and the harsh reality we live in Up in the air and down! This poem encourages readers; it is telling them that you don t need feathers to fly. All you need to have is imagination to achieve the goal your mind wants. Even though the poem is about the simplicity of child s mind, it teaches us something. It teaches us how to use and adorn our imaginative world. It is important for us to have imaginative power as it is necessary in this busy world. Sometimes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frost uses a lot of imagery, for example in Shattering and avalanching . The writer tends to use a number of extended metaphors, for example in Soon the sun s warmth makes them shed crystal shells Shattering and avalanching on the snow crust he then turns the metaphor into an extended metaphor by adding a new metaphor Such heaps of broken glass to sweep away . The swing doesn t use as many literary devices. The poem s main theme is obviously escapism. That is why it is similar to Robert Louis Stevenson s poem The Swing . The boy in Frost s poem is symbolic to the character, as it is something that the man likes to imagine during his tough days or to escape from reality. Frost, just like Stevenson, highlights the importance of imagination in our lives, and how it can help us during hard times. The Race to Space Essay The Race to Space The tension that existed between the U.S. and Russia during the years after WWII was not only a time that both countries patiently tried to keep the world from another war, but was also a time of great rivalry in the exploration of space. As both counties diligently experimented with plans for creating a way to get into the vastness of space, spies on both sides were already in place to steal those ideas. And so the space race begun. Both countries wanted to be the first to succeed so millions were spent as the world watched as the U.S. and Russia went head to head in a battle that would change the world forever. Within a couple days, the Russians announced similar intentions, but the Soviet satellite would be larger than the American one. By mid 1957, the official Soviet press suggested the first launch was months away. Few people in the United States paid much attention to the prediction though. On October 4, 1957, Sputnik lifted off. Sputnik was only in orbit for three weeks, but those who tracked it gained valuable information about the destiny of the upper atmosphere and the manner in which it altered the satellite s orbit. On January 4, 1958, after ninety two days in orbit, Sputnik I re entered the Earth s atmosphere and burned up. On November 3, 1957, the USSR launched Sputnik II. • 8. Oedipus Essay Hans Rockwell 8/26/17 Question 1 Question 1.) One of the responses people usually have about Oedipus is if he really deserved the fate that he ended up with. It s not his fault that Jocasta and Laius tried to outsmart fate and dispose of him. In trying to run from this prophecy, did he really do anything any other person, given the culture, wouldn t have done? Is Oedipus a victim of fate or is he responsible for the choices he makes? What does Sophocles suggest? What do you think? Use specific references from the text in your response. It is sort of an iffy question when we are trying to figure out whether or not Oedipus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are definitely two arguments on whether or not Oedipus had fallen to fate or made his own decisions, but if you think about it, the prophecy stated literally everything that was going to happen, and maybe it would not had happened if Oedipus did not seek out everything because the prophecy only unfolded when he began to venture out and look for the problem trying to solve his own problems. Him doing this unraveled something much worse and is what led him to his banishment, so if you think about it, maybe fate did bring him to this terrible ending, but how can we be for sure because he did make these decisions himself. Jocasta and Laius were the two to blame for believing in such a thing and leaving their child to die a terrible death, only to come back and have the prophecy happen anyways. Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis occurs secondary to hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the muscular layers of the pylorus, causing a functional gastric outlet obstruction (Singh and Bechtel, 2015). The pylorus connects the stomach to the small intestine. When a pyloric stenosis occurs, the pylorus swells and thickens (DeNoon, 2014). • 12. The Roaring Twenties The dawning of the 1920 s in America left a need in the citizens hearts to return to a state of normalcy after the devastating effects of the Great War. However, the new era of isolationism spawned a cultural revolution that can only be described as anything but normal . Heavy losses over seas left Americans turned off to problems occurring outside of United States borders. As the citizens averted their eyes from the problems of the world, they were left to focus their attention of forming the spectacular sense of moral freedom of the decade. The economy flourished as well.Wall Street became an enormous success as the introduction of credit dazzled the American people. The colossal factories which had supplied weapons and war machinery now churned out the automobiles, radios, and abundant excitement which would go on to define the era. The isolationist attitude also led away from the idea of the whole and people found themselves focusing on their own needs and wants, which emphasized the adolescent nature of the United States. The post war, isolationist minds of Americans in the roaring twenties focused on the dream of total freedom as they strove towards liberation in their daily lives, and were represented by the authors of the modernist fiction era. The attitudes, actions, and personality traits associated with males during that time period were so vastly different from the present day. They were thought to be the sole provider, protector, strong, and self reliant no displays of weakness or submissiveness were allowed. Contradictions between established physicians and neurologists debated in the medical world whether or not it existed. • 14. Caryl Phillips The Nature of Blood Essay Caryl Phillips The Nature of Blood On its most immediate level, Caryl Phillips The Nature of Blood narrates several stories of the Jewish Diaspora, using the familiar Shakespearean character Othello to provide a counterpoint to the others experiences of displacement. The Nature of Blood thus initially seems to fit awkwardly among texts by other West Indian authors who use the Caribbean as the setting of their work or incorporate West Indian characters into their work. Through his multi stranded narrative, however, Phillips creates a geographical setting that mirrors the multi regional influence of the Caribbean. This triangular situation of spaces in turn allows Phillips, while not specifically addressing the region, to explore the condition of the Caribbean diaspora. The first narrative of The Nature of Blood unsettles the existence of geographical home by questioning optimistic views of settlement. Stephan opens the novel, explaining plans for the creation of the new state of Israel to Moshe, a Romanian Holocaust survivor. Their dialogue reveals Moshe s unease with the claim to Israel as a new Jewish state, even as Stephan expresses optimism: Tell me, what will be the name of the country? Our country, I said. The country will belong to you too (Phillips 3). While Stephan insists upon claiming Israel both for himself and Moshe, Moshe resists this possessiveness, hence his inquiry about the country rather than his country. Even after Stephan asserts that Moshe has as much stake in Israel as the other settlers, Moshe hesitates, failing even to remember the name of the new country. At the same time that Stephan and Moshe s dialogue questions resettlement, the prose of the novel s opening establishes Moshe as part of a diasporic population. • 18. Pilot Training Simulators Ever since I was old enough to dream, I have imagined myself soaring with the eagles. My love of flying has sculpted the way I live and the person I have become. Two years ago that passion rocketed to new heights when I had the opportunity to visit Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona. For a whole week I lived in a college dorm, roomed with a total stranger, and best of all I flew! My group took part in activities ranging from learning about the history of aviation to flying in state of the art pilot training simulators. At least once a day, I strapped myself into one of the world s best training aircraft, the Cessna 182. Not only did I receive thorough ground instruction, but I also got to fly. Younger onset dementia happens when people still expect to be healthy, active, independent on daily activities. Early onset stage is a more active stage of life and individuals may not know the disease is active and may struggle with day to day memory. For example, failure to identify problems with planning things, organization, and problem solving are likely to result in frustration, tension and anxiety. Making wrongful decisions can also lead to major consequences for those still involved in working and possibly driving. • 20. Contrasting Responsibility in Carver s Fever and... What allows a human being to constantly face up to the responsibilities of life? What makes a mother or father continue to clothe, feed, and pick up their child from school? What makes a person wake up every morning to go to a job he or she hates, come home, and begin the whole process the following morning? Is it responsibility that makes a person do what they have to do, or rather is it fearing the consequence? Truthfully, this would depend on the situation. Parents would most likely fulfill their responsibility towards their child or children because of love; but a person who hates his or her job probably continues to do it fearing the consequence of unemployment. Consequently, Sonny s brother is so disappointed in him that he initially refuses to even contact him until he writes a letter to inform Sonny of his daughter s death. When Sonny responds, the first words he writes are, You don t know how much I needed to hear from you (6). This opening sentence jolts Sonny s brother into realizing that at the moment his brother needed him the most, he did not even bother to at least acknowledge him. Before passing away, the narrator s mother made him promise to always take care of Sonny: You got to hold on to your brother, she said, and don t let him fall, no matter what it looks like is happening to him and no matter how evil you gets with him. You going to be evil with him many a time. But don t you forget what I told you, you hear? (14). The narrator s initial lack of contact might seem that he has forgotten his promise and his responsibility as an older brother. Realistically though, the narrator is angry at Sonny s decisions to take heroin and consequently get arrested. This anger that he holds is preventing him from fulfilling his promise and his responsibility; however, when he receives the letter from Sonny stating, You don t know how much I needed you , the anger dissipates and he realizes that his younger brother is in need of guidance and love rather than anger and ignorance. ... They have to get comfortable in their new living environment, sometimes without their spouse and with fewer friends and family members around. As a society, if we don t start monitoring this population, the high rates will continue to rise and more older adults will continue to self harm which will lead to a huge social justice matter. In order to advocate for this population, we must first educate those who are not aware. • 39. Essay On Myasthenia Gravis Myasthenia Gravis Damage to the neuromuscular junctions is due to an autoimmune disease called myasthenia graves. The motor end plates, which are located on skeletal muscles, are affected because there is a decrease in the amount of Ach receptors located on the motor end plate, which is connected to the neuromuscular junction. The decrease is due to the unnecessary production of antibodies, which bind to the motor end plate. This prevents Ach from binding to the receptors to carry out a synapse between the skeletal muscle and a neuron, leading to a stop or weakening of muscle contraction. The decrease in the amounts of synapses cause the skeletal muscle to lose function, become weaker, and tire more easily. Men and women are both at risk for developing myasthenia gravis, but the disease is more prevalent in women. However, the age of diagnosis varies. • 41. Essay On Indentured Servants Indentured Servitude as a Catalyst for Colonial Success The colonies were better able to adapt to the New World and all of its trials through the use of indentured servants. Indentured servitude gave colonists access to the new freedoms they may not have had otherwise in Britain while giving colonies such as Virginia a chance at success. The New World involved challenges that the colonists never could have imagined including but not limited to disease, crop differences, and Native Americans with very different lifestyles. Colonial Growth by means of Indentured Servants Over half of the white immigrants that arrived to the British Colonies were able to make the passage through agreeing to indentured servitude. Indentured servants exchanged several years of labor for the cost of passage to America and the grant of land. During the seventeenth century, indentured servants provided most of the labor in British America. Unanticipated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Virginia where tobacco was a prominent crop, large planters bought up fertile lands, which left very little options for freed servants. A large majority of freed servants during this time had to choose between becoming a tenant of a planter and buying less fertile land. Decline in Indentured Servitude With the beginnings of colonies such as New England, the need for indentured servitude throughout British America began to decline. In New England a large portion of the settlers were middle class. Besides even the class level of those who settled in New England, the area was a much easier place to settle as the labor required as well as the weather was much more mild. The strongest portions of weather was the cold climate which ultimately helped to fend off some disease and illness that may have otherwise plagued settlers as it did in many other colony beginnings. When dealing with HIV, the cell mediated immunity is affected. Components of this immunity, such as T cells and phagocytes that ward off foreign particles that enter the body are greatly reduced. The T cells are depressed by the Human Immunodeficiency virus which allows the body to be easily attacked by any foreign particle. Being immuno depressed by this virus, promotes difficulty when trying to ward off another virus. An example of this would be if a person who has HIV contracts pneumonia, a health concern where fluid enters the lungs, they would most likely die. • 43. Social And Legal Implications Of Driverless Cars By definition, an autonomous vehicle, or driverless car, is one that is able to navigate terrain without the need for human input but human input is also an option. It is undeniably possible that we will see driverless cars on roads around the world at some point in the not so distant future. It has been stated that the next generation of vehicles, such as BMW s self driving prototype, could be available within the next decade and that within that decade Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan, Volvo, and Audi all plan to develop and sell some form of advanced automation (Knight, 2013). However, before they are rolled off the production lines in their thousands, many questions that currently open need answers and repercussions need to be considered. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Driverless cars would be able to take safety features such as these to a more advanced level that would automatically make manoeuvres such as changing lanes suddenly or automatically slowing down at higher speeds. For example, when driving through heavy fog, the driver would find it difficult to see an oncoming traffic jam whereas an autonomous vehicle s (AV) sensors would be alerted and would automatically slow the car down and alert the driver as to what was ahead. This system would also be useful if a driver was travelling on unfamiliar roads: the AV would be programmed as to the optimum speed to travel at certain times, eradicating the risk of an accident due to human error. A study by Benenson et al highlights that vehicle to vehicle communication may be an effective way of increasing safety with AV s: cars would communicate with each other their plans of direction and position to ensure no collisions occurred. This reduce in road traffic accidents would also largely reduce other societal costs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that in the US in 2012, crash injuries totalled costs of $18 billion and $33bn in work lost (CDC, 2014). In the UK, the Department for Transport suggests that, allowing for accidents that have not been reported to police, the total value of the prevention of road accidents was £34.3 billion in 2012 (DFT, 2012). Creativity is flowing and the Beat Poets of the 1950s are unknowingly establishing a counterculture movement, one that challenges the social norms and politics of their time and even transcends generations to remain relevant today. Poets like Jack Kerouac, William Seward Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Allen Ginsberg were heavily influenced by jazz, adopting their seedy dress, manners, and hip vocabulary ( Beat Movement ) that changed their lifestyle and helped write their poetry. Specifically, Allen Ginsberg s poem Howl, is often regarded as the anthem of 1950s Beats ( Howl | Poem by Ginsberg ), a poem unstructured and free flowing to reflect Ginsberg s experiences. In Howl, Allen Ginsberg uses unique language and changes his tone throughout the poem in an attempt to break the constraints of confinement and seek his own forms of freedom. The research also suggests that the major reason families choose to adopt international is the manner in which most international adoptions are conducted; a process that minimizes the threat that a child could be offered to potential parents and then withdrawn. International birth parents transfer their parental rights to a third party adoption agency or orphanage before the adoptive parents get involved in the process. This may not be the case with domestic adoptions, mainly when a child is expected, but not yet born. • 51. Difference Between Endothtermic And Exothermic The goal of this experiment was to preform a series of reactions to determine the change in temperature that which would conclude whether the chemical reactions were endothermic or exothermic. The original hypothesis was that each of the reactions, except for the reaction between solid magnesium and hydrochloric acid, would be endothermic, and the remainder would be exothermic. This hypothesis was disproven during laboratory experiments to conclude that each of the reactions were exothermic except for the reaction between water and ammonium chloride which was endothermic. In Table 1, the heat of solution data collected from ammonium chloride and sodium carbonate are indicative of how acid base and dissolution reactions yield certain results. The reaction between ammonium chloride and water is a dissolution reaction in which ammonia and hydronium is produced from the breaking of ionic bonds in ammonium chloride from the water. In this reaction, the breaking of ionic bonds in the reactants released more energy than the formation of new bonds in the products, thus causing a negative temperature change characteristic of an endothermic reaction. The reaction between sodium carbonate and water was an acid base reaction in which the water acted as a base to neutralize the acid, sodium carbonate. The energy that was released in the reactants was less than that absorbed in the products, causing for a positive temperature change to show an exothermic reaction. The types of reactions ...
