The Impact Of The 1860 Presidential Election
Assess the influence of the 1860 presidential election as a cause of the American Civil War
The 1860 presidential election of Abraham Lincoln greatly contributed to the outbreak of the Civil
War. Abraham Lincoln, born in Kentucky on February 12, 1809, served as the sixteenth president of
the United States. He was the very first Republican to serve as president, eventually leading the Union
to victory during the civil war. Lincoln opposed the idea of the expansion of slavery but acknowledged
that he would not interfere with slavery where it existed. Despite this, Southern fears that slavery
would soon be abolished by Republicans became a reality after Abraham Lincoln was elected
president on November 6th, 1860. The election influenced the ... Show more content on

Abraham Lincoln freely expressed his hatred for slavery and it s expansion to Northern states, but he
wasn t calling for immediate emancipation. Despite this, Southerners fears that slavery would soon be
abolished by Republicans reached its peak after the presidential election. Southerners viewed the
presidential election of Lincoln as a virtual referendum regarding slavery. The 1860 presidential
election caused fear and paranoia amongst Southerners that slavery would quickly be eradicated
entirely by Lincoln and the newly formed Republican party, which ultimately illustrates the influence
the election had on the outbreak of the Civil War.
Abraham Lincoln s election as president was achieved purely by sectional voting. Lincoln did not win
a single vote from any of the Southern states. During 1805 a new political party known as the
Republican party was formed largely by those in opposition to slavery s expansion into the Northern
states. One year on from John Brown s attempted slave upheaval at Harper s Ferry, Virginia, the
national debate regarding slavery had reached boiling point. Several Southern states had threatened to
secede should Lincoln be elected president

S: Page 313 is mainly about speaking and listening with children that have autism spectrum disorder
(ASD). Children with ASD need a lot of support in communication, and they also have trouble
listening. There are many excellent tips on page 313 for speaking and listening.
E: I think it is important, as a future teacher, to be able to effectively listen and communicate with a
child that has ASD. A tip about speaking that I though was pretty valuable was the tip on teaching
children with autism how to control their tone and volume to match situations because I have
experience children with autism blurting out at more quit times, etc.

and loud, while the other one seemed to be more clam. It was interesting to see the differences in my
two friends and how autism can effect people differently. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would be different.
E: I think using a picture to spark creativity is a good idea for all children. During my experience
hours, the teacher that I was aired with gave her student a picture of a woman pulling her hair out and
two other children below her arguing, and the students had to write what each person was thinking and

The English Language Learner Is Defined By The Individuals...
An English language learner is defined as someone who has sufficient difficulty speaking, reading,
writing, or understanding the English language and whose difficulties may deny such individual the
opportunity to learn successfully in classrooms where the language of instruction is in English (Ortiz,
Woika, 2013, p. 2). As defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a child with
a disability has mental retardation, hearing impairments (including deafness), speech or language
impairments, visual impairments (including blindness), serious emotional disturbance, orthopedic
impairments, autism, traumatic brain injury, other health impairments, or specific learning disabilities;
and who, by reason thereof, needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a student is both an English language learner and has a learning disability, their educational needs
become inherently more complex. However, through research on the needs of English language
learners with disabilities, on various case laws, and by participating in lectures on the topics of
English language learners and students with learning disabilities, I have come to a clearer
understanding of these unique needs as well as the processes necessary to identify, evaluate, and work
with these students. Prior to the 1960s, both English language learners and students with disabilities
were often segregated from their peers, given inadequate instruction, and inappropriately assessed
(Ortiz, Woika, 2013). This began to change when, with the holding of Brown vs. board of Education
(1954), a principle for equal educational opportunities for all students was brought to fruition (Yell,
1998). After this decision, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 prohibited the discrimination of
people on the basis of race, color, or national origin in the operation of federally assisted programs.

during that time, but having paid closer attention, is reporting intermittent episodes of
laryngospasm/vocal cord dysfunction. Specifically after extended periods of talking, Vicky is noticing
some tightness in her larynx and at times dysphonia. She may also become slightly breathless, but
with slow breathing and resting her voice, her symptoms settle within a few minutes. Separate to this,
she has also noted intermittent retrosternal tightness and mild dyspnoea that is consistently relieved
with belching. She is no reporting any exertional symptoms.

Honey Bees Pesticide
1. A pesticide is a substance used to eliminate insects or other organisms that come into contact with
the plant life that the substance is placed on, this tactic of removal is damaging to both harmful and
helpful insects or organisms.
2. Essentially, the YouTube video gives an overview on honey bees, pollinators, being threatened due
to harmful pesticides. It can be seen that fewer honey bees are coming out of the winter season and the
ones that do are already weak, which puts them at a disadvantage. Nonetheless, at the end of the
video, the point is made that pesticides are not the only problem honey bees face and the solution is
not to have people come together to just eliminate pesticides to improve the decline of honey bees.

Behavioral Psychology And Neuropsychology And The...
Philosophy of Psychology
Jessica Germany
Freed Hardeman University Philosophy of Psychology
Introduction
As an occupational therapist, I hope to use a number of different psychological theories. The main
perspective I will use is Behavior Psychology. Most of my therapy techniques will come from Skinner
s theory of operant condition. By using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), I can help modify
children s behavior. The second perspective I will use is Neuropsychology. In treating autistic
children, and other people with various disorders, it is important to understand the different brain
chemistry that each has. In most circumstances, a part of the brain is affected that inhibits an aspect of
the child s behavior.
History
Both behavioral psychology and neuropsychology have rich backgrounds. For the purposes of my
philosophy of psychology, I will cover operant condition and Skinner s approach to verbal behavior. I
will also look aspects of neuropsychology such as neuroplasticity and the dimensional systems model.
I will also look at Sensory Integration theory, which combines a number of different perspectives
including behavioral and neuropsychology.
Behavioral Therapy
The father of Behavioral Psychology is Watson. Another iconic psychologist in this aspect is B. F.
Skinner. Skinner s major theory is operant conditioning. Operant behavior is defined as behavior
controlled by its consequences (Staddon Cerutti, 2003). Operant behavior also uses reinforcement

Religous Inclusivism Difference Between Religion
It ultimately invites the thought of all the prophets being accurate and sent by God to teach or spread
the word. This combines all religions into one unit, and worshiping one God. I feel that this view is an
amazingly compassionate but sort of complex when it comes to acceptance.
==========================================
Earlier on within our class, one point which we discussed would be that of religious inclusionism
which is basically the belief that there is one true religion yet we all worship this same deity. I feel that
the Bahai position with regards to the unity of the religions has many similarities but also differences.
The most obvious similarities would be that both notions hold that there is a singular deity and also
that there is a sort of attempt to reconcile such different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, I feel that the difference between inclusivism (as defined by the textbook) and the Bahai
faith would be that their justification differs. Religous inclusivism (since it is not inherently related to
any religion) does not have any singular justification for the idea that all paths led to one so to speak.
Although such a notion I have seen more or less is based on the assertion that it is because God simply
appears different to different people which is why people have such different views. The Bahai faith
slightly differs in the stance that the justification is given by means of noting that the contexts were
different and that was the justification for why it is different. Thus it could be summed up by saying
that Bahai views such differences as being more contextual in nature while religious inclusivism (as
defined by the textbook) views them as being more individualist so to speak. However, in spite of this,
I still think that the Bahai notion still has issues within it that can be difficult to justify from a
theological stance. The main issue is that such religions often contain conflicting views with each
other when it comes to central matters

What Is The Compromise Of 1860 Dbq
In 1860 the compromise broke down because the Southerners had enough of the northerners attacking
just because of slavery. Southerners felt like they had a right to do whatever they wanted with their
properties. Abraham Lincoln gave a speech on June 16, 1858 in springfield Illinois .When Lincoln
was elected they knew that the war will end and the slaves will be free.
In 1820 the Missouri forbid slavery in the louisiana territory. Maine had to be a free state because they
were in the southern borders. In 1820 the compromise was passed and that made Missouri a slave
state. When the compromise was passed it made maine slave free and missouri a slave state. In the

The Nsa Should Create A Privilege Management Program
The IT department should create a privilege management program in active directory that ensures
personnel only have access to material to resources and information they require. These access
controls should also be deployed when there s a suspicion or termination of an employee. In the case
of the two interns, the network administrator should create login hours and system specific login s tp
prevent any leak in information during the after hours. The recent issues at the National Security
Agency (NSA) displayed what can happen with an unaudited IT department, and according to the
Register:
The NSA policy prevents a typical worker from doing things like copying files to USB thumb drives
or other external storage. But Snowden had an easy way around those restrictions, simply by virtue of
being classified as systems administrator. With that privilege, Snowden would have been able to move
files around at will, sources claim (Tim Worstall, 2013). This catastrphe could have been prevented, if
the NSA had a robust access control in place to detour Snowden from causing significant damage.
Some network security concerns that should be addressed is the physical component while damage
can be inflicted on the network from remote terminal, an attacker with physical access is a much
greater concern. The Global Accounting network system should be placed in a secure room where
only essential personnel have access. Network devices such as the modem and router should be

Leibniz And Locke s Nature Of Innate Ideas
Leibniz and Locke argued back and forth about the nature of innate ideas and whether or not they
could/do exist. Locke took the position that in order for innate ideas to exist, they must be universal
and universally assented to by all people. Leibniz counters by distinguishing between contingent and
necessary truths, pointing out that no amount of experience will give us insight to necessary truths and
that they must be innate. He also brings up the example of innate moral knowledge that most people
know without having to be taught. Leibniz seems to come out ahead in this debate due to his ability to
show how Locke s definitions were arbitrary and there do seem to be ideas that, while not universally
assented to, the vast majority of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another proposed replacement for Locke s definition is that an innate idea is assented to in the very
instance that it is understood. But again, sensory experiences also fall under this definition, because as
soon as you experience something you understand what it is, such as red is not yellow and vice versa.
Locke also makes the claim that there are no universally assented to moral principles/knowledge. On
many occasions, people have done immoral things, knowing that they are immoral. And if they did not
know that their actions were immoral (as is the case with the criminally insane), then that moral
knowledge was not universally assented to and was not innate in that person. The legal system and
laws themselves go against the idea of innate moral knowledge. If the principles were innate, there
would be no need to deliberate or argue over the meanings or intricacies of certain laws or
amendments that guide society. Like Locke, Leibniz makes a distinction for his argument. He
distinguishes between mental content (ideas for Locke) that is gained from sensory experiences and
mental content that is not. He structures his argument around the following main claims: An idea can
be known without its thinker being conscious of the idea in question. Necessary truths and contingent
truths are separate entities. Necessary truths are a priori (innate) truths, while contingent

My Experience In My Middle School
Middle school changes lives, it s as simple as that. It changes everything that you know about yourself
and your abilities, and turns it upside down. When you walk through the doors on your first day of
school, you are confident and ready for everything to come, but by the last day of eighth grade, you
are exhausted, almost as if the school itself sucked the life right out of you. And yet, you have new
friends, amazing teachers, and new interests that you had never even given a second thought before
middle school. I myself have had many experiences in the middle school, good and bad. On one
faithful day in fifth grade, I became acquainted with my close friend, Azzia Berestecki. At the time,
we hated each other with the passion of a bull charging at a rodeo clown painted red. She was the
popular one, always surrounded by friends, and lovingly accepting the rule of teacher s pet. I was the
quiet girl who had a small circle of friends, and I was considered weird and annoying by Azzia and her
friends. We went on like this for a while, hating each other for reasons none other than biases. Then, as
if by fate, we both joined the robolab team at the beginning of seventh grade. We regarded each other
at a bare minimum for a majority of the year, but then the unimaginable happened. My mother was
rushed to the emergency room and was taken in for brain surgery. She would not have been able to
drive me, or herself, to Pittsburgh and back for robolab s final competition of the

Queen Victoria is ruthless and vicious when it pertains to punishments. Not only Queen Victoria is

Kasserine Pass Battle Analysis
2. Terrain Kasserine Pass is a 2 mile wide gap in the grand Dorsal chain of the Atlas mountains in west
central Tunisa. The American scheme for containment of German forces at Faid was centered upon the
key terrain features of Djebel Ksaira to the south and Djebel Lessouda to the north. Artillery
observation posts on both hills provided visual coverage of the exits from Faid Pass and of the road
from Maknassy to the south. The troops on the heights were only able to influence the battle on the

Essay on The Iliad of Homer and Greek Heroes
The Iliad is an epic tale of war and hero s within the Greek way of life. A predominant and consistent
theme of honor and glory reside throughout the poem. The motivation for any Homeric Greek is glory,
or Kleos , that is to be honored and respected among their people. Emphasis is put on living by the
heroic code. Honor is essential to the Greeks and life would not be worth living without it. When a
warrior or hero is advised to avoid risking their life in battle it almost drives them even further
towards the deed. It is better to be killed in action rather than to live and be thought a coward. By our
rational standards one would certainly not be thought a coward if they didn t rush into battle to almost

It would be brought back to the homeland and displayed as a sign of power; this is how Kleos was
attained, and how respect was earned. To the victor went more than the battle armor. They would
regularly take their pick of the local women to take back with them and lay in bed together . This
became one of the centerpieces for the conflict between Achilleus and Agamemnon, when a quarrel
arose and Achilleus was asked to allow Briseis, a prize that he won in battle, to go back to her land. It
is common to keep your female prizes as your own; however, Achilleus felt that his ego was tested
when he was asked to return her. This went hand in hand with the honor factor, it would be shameful
for him to oblige and give back what he rightfully won. After all, she was a symbol of Kleos, by
giving her back he was losing something which he strived so hard to attain. The Greek warrior was
very selfish, there was no sense of community on their foremost mind, and it was about the self and
their status among others. The warrior who was most feared was the warrior that got the most respect
and admirations from the generations that would follow. The poem is after all about Achilleus, a great
warrior that fought hard and attained much glory in doing so. The shame that one would feel from
avoiding battle is evident in many cases throughout the poem. When Hektor is

two made a joint announcement of their discovery in 1858. Darwin published On the Origin of

very rarely makes its appearance before adult life, in all cases induces a state of more or less perfect
dementia and never ceases while life lasts . The disease was recorded early on by observers; however
Waters description was the first detailed description of the disease. It is believed that the disease was
present among the population at a much earlier date as it is caused by a dominant allele. Because of its
long history, and the fact that the mutation rate for Huntington s chorea is among the lowest recorded
for any inherited condition, the disease has great potential in genealogical investigations. The
Afrikaner population posed as a great source to study the disease because of the excellent recording of
the origins and history of the Afrikaner nation. The excellent documentation facilitated efforts to trace
the disease back to the earliest transmission of the gene to South Africa.
In their research they found that the only previous attempt to investigate the genealogy of this disease

Scientific Management And The Mission Vision And Guiding...
Evidence Based/Scientific Management directly supports the mission vision and guiding principles of
some healthcare managers. As Evidence Based Managers, it is critical to understand that everyone is
not going to support Evidence Based management. However, it is an essential tool that can be used to
improve managers overall efficiency and effectiveness of any organization. The major test and
prospects for today s complicated healthcare delivery systems require that leaders take charge of their
operations. A strong operations focus can reduce costs, increase safety, improve clinical and non
clinical outcomes, and allow an organization to compete effectively with an uncompromising market
(McLaughlin Hays, 2008). Performance improvement projects should be methodical and efficient.
Without a well defined process, confusion is likely to ensue, and the performance improvement panel
might not achieve the required results (Spath, 2013).
The researcher will discuss the history of healthcare management and the case for and against
scientific/evidence based management. In addition, this paper will further to describe Great Britain s
healthcare policy and evidence based practice; performance improvement tools, and Six Sigma. The
benefits and disadvantages of Evidence Based Management will also be addressed.

The advancement of Healthcare Management as a profession has generally tracked the progression of
medical science and the expansion of hospitals in the United

La Casa De Bernarda Alba Essay
The House of Bernarda Alba is the third play in the trilogy knows as the Rural Trilogy alongside
Blood Wedding and Yerma by Federico García Lorca. Garcia Lorca was a Spanish poet, playwright,
who was a member of the Generation of 27. Garcia Lorca s main themes include the tension between
social responsibility and individual freedom as well as love and tragedy. After the death of her second
husband, Bernarda Alba is locked up at home and imposes a rigorous and suffocating mourning for
eight years, forbidding her five daughters to go out into the street. When Angustias, the firstborn, and
only daughter of the first husband, inherits a fortune, attracts a young man, Pepe the Roman. The
young man gets engaged to Angustias, but at the same time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The symbols Lorca uses are diverse; he uses the same symbols in many of his other works. According
to Sharp it was natural for him to use symbols of nature to deal with the problems concerning life and
reproduction... Black and white colors The white walls contrast with the women s mourning dresses.
The contrasts are very frequent in the work of Lorca, and in La casa de Bernarda Alba can symbolize
the dichotomy that exists between what the individual wants and what society demands, or in this case
what the daughters want and what Bernarda demands of them. White also represents purity, and black,
death. The contrast reinforces the idea of a photographic documentary, which Lorca wanted to convey.
In Lorca s works, the color green signifies rebellion and the yearning for freedom. Adela rebels
against her mother s will and dresses in green. This color also symbolizes the death for Lorca, and
indeed Adela dies at the end. Bernarda s cane is a symbol of tyrannical power and its phallic form
represents patriarchal values. Another theory is that alludes to the blindness of Bernarda to the desires
of her daughters. Throughout the play, there is a horse that furiously hits the walls of the stable
representing the masculinity and lust. Heat is present at all times and the characters constantly
mention it. It represents repressed passion. Stagnant water is used as a symbol of death. The village
has no rivers, only wells and water that moves throughout rivers is said to represent life. The moon is
considered a lorquiano symbol that represents death and seduction, in this case seduction lead to

How Is The Monster A Monster
The drama filled novel, Monster, by Walter Dean Myers begins with the main character, Steve
Harmon, sitting in his jail cell awaiting his trial in court. His possible sentencing is Twenty five years
to life in prison. Steve is only sixteen years old, so one can only imagine how terrified he must be. To
deal with his trial as well as the viciousness of prison, Steve records his experience in a journal in the
form of a screen play. The case is about a crime that was committed a few days before Christmas in
which a drugstore owner, Alguinaldo Nesbitt was robbed and brutally murdered. Four main witnesses
are called to the stand to give their testimonies. Richard Bobo Evans, a known thug in the
neighborhood (who was already doing time for selling drugs) admits that he has known James King
(the other person on trial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is when Steve writes in his journal his thoughts about the events that take place in court, as well
as thoughts about himself. The question that disturbs him most is: Am I truly a monster? He is
depicted as a monster by some of the witnesses in court, and he believes the jury and even his own
lawyer sees him as a monster as well.
Nonetheless, the trial does come to an end with verdicts that prove James King guilty and Steve not
guilty. He is thrilled that he is found innocent, but five months later Steve is still troubled about who
he really is. He seeks answers by continuing to record his thoughts, filming himself, and examining
his reflection in the mirror.
The major theme surrounding Monster is awareness. This theme can be easily compared in several of
the actual recognized, American literary works. In nearly every novel that we have read, the main
character has encountered experiences that have changed his or her outlook on life as a whole or a
certain aspect of life in some significant

Feminism taken to Extremes in A Streetcar Named Misogyny
As women s studies programs have proliferated throughout American universities, feminist re readings
of certain classic authors have provided us with the most nonsensical interpretations of these authors
texts. A case in point is that of Kathleen Margaret Lant s interpretation of Tennessee Williams A
Streetcar Named Desire in her essay entitled A Streetcar Named Misogyny. Throughout the essay, she
continually misreads Williams intention, which of course causes her to misunderstand the play itself.
Claiming that the play has proved vexing to audiences, directors, actors, readers, and critics (Lant
227), she fails to see that it is she herself who finds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stanley s rape of Blanche is the action that sends him beyond the pale of civilized existence. That he
gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his
character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished.
Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay, has
written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it is
sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact, there is a
pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of tenderness and
sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom she cites twice in her
paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme with sensitivity. Stanley
Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no glamorization, for Blanche,
however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is symbolic of the darker forces of
nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should so differ in her interpretation of the
play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps, to out Herodias Herodias.
After the rape, again in Lant s opinion, Blanche is no longer fully human, but is simply a metaphor for
all that is vile about women. But in the relationship between

Nuclear Weapons Are The Most Deadly
Nuclear weapons are the most deadly, destructive, and powerful form of technology that the world has
ever created. Officially, only 9 states out of 196 in the international arena have possession of them.
Although nuclear weapons are being eliminated by states, they still hold a significant value for nations
in the IR arena with a nuclear annihilation capacity. States within the international community that
own nuclear arsenals are automatically feared and respected because of the status symbol they hold.
Conversely, this prestige, power, and influence can also back fire on states and become a
disadvantage. States can lose power in the international community by causing tensions and dividing
themselves between states who don t have these nuclear advantages. France is one country in
particular that resembles a superpower with nuclear capability. France has gained power in the
International community through NATO due to their possession of nuclear weapons. Overall, nuclear
weapons still represent a great power in the International Arena today and will continue holding that
power. The ability to produce and launch dangerous, nuclear weapons help states earn a negotiation
power in the international community because nuclear power is equated to political power. A state that
owns nuclear weapons is feared, respected, and seen as a country that nobody wants to wage a war
with, because of the threat of nuclear annihilation. Once a state has possession of nuclear weapons it
becomes a

The Tragedy Of King Lear By William Shakespeare
In the eyes of many, the world might appear to entail solely happiness and prosperity. Beyond the
oblivion is arguably a more practical depiction of real life, filled with cold truths and merciless
mistakes. Few figures in history have captured this essence of reality to such a high degree as
Aristotle, a revolutionary thinker whose ideas shaped Greek tragedy. Within his theory of tragedy is
the concept of the tragic hero, whose great, ironic flaw leads to his own downfall. The tragic hero is of
an elevated position in society but should, all the same, be a character with whom the audience can
relate. The hero undergoes a massive revelation and experiences dramatic enlightenment. The tragedy
of King Lear, written by William Shakespeare, illustrates the story of a proud and self centered king,
whose obtuse judgement shapes his demise. Lear s impulsive actions catalyze a chain of events,
inspiring emotion from the characters and the audience alike. On the surface, King Lear fits the
description of Aristotle s tragic hero. Discrepancies in Lear s tale, however, contradict the idea of an
idyllic relationship between Lear and the philosophies of Aristotle. Lear s faults correspond to those of
the audience, but their extremity proves to be unique. One might think King Lear becomes cognizant
of his decisions, but his fall to insanity acts in conflict. The lack of catharsis in King Lear also
precipitates the build up of negative sentiment. Although King Lear is meant to be

Coke s Newest Packaging Scheme
When I need a cup of coffee in the morning, I always reach past the other mugs and use my
personalized mug. It s a taller white mug, with my name Lizz printed in a colorful playful font. I love
my unique mug not only because of the fun design, but because it is personalized for me. The
personalization of the mug makes me feel connected to my special mug. If another member of my
family were to use my mug, they would feel no connection to it. When an item or product is
personalized to us, we feel an instant connection to the object. Why have a plain mug, when you can
have one with your name on it? Personalized items are everywhere for this reason. There are mug,
hats, stationary, and many other items with personalization. Coke has realized the connection between
personalized products and consumers, and is taking full advantage of the trend. Under Coke s newest
packaging scheme, Share a Coke , bottles are printed with names on the side, so a consumer can have
their own personal Coke. Packaging schemes, such as Coke s Share a Coke campaign, lure consumers
into purchasing a product through personalization. With their new marketing campaign, Coke makes
consumers feel connected to their product. People around the country dig through shelves to find a
bottle with their name on it. These bottles do not differ much from a normal Coke, one side has the
traditional Coca Cola logo, and the other side says Share a Coke with following by one of 250 names.

  • 2. The Impact Of The 1860 Presidential Election Assess the influence of the 1860 presidential election as a cause of the American Civil War The 1860 presidential election of Abraham Lincoln greatly contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln, born in Kentucky on February 12, 1809, served as the sixteenth president of the United States. He was the very first Republican to serve as president, eventually leading the Union to victory during the civil war. Lincoln opposed the idea of the expansion of slavery but acknowledged that he would not interfere with slavery where it existed. Despite this, Southern fears that slavery would soon be abolished by Republicans became a reality after Abraham Lincoln was elected president on November 6th, 1860. The election influenced the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Abraham Lincoln freely expressed his hatred for slavery and it s expansion to Northern states, but he wasn t calling for immediate emancipation. Despite this, Southerners fears that slavery would soon be abolished by Republicans reached its peak after the presidential election. Southerners viewed the presidential election of Lincoln as a virtual referendum regarding slavery. The 1860 presidential election caused fear and paranoia amongst Southerners that slavery would quickly be eradicated entirely by Lincoln and the newly formed Republican party, which ultimately illustrates the influence the election had on the outbreak of the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln s election as president was achieved purely by sectional voting. Lincoln did not win a single vote from any of the Southern states. During 1805 a new political party known as the Republican party was formed largely by those in opposition to slavery s expansion into the Northern states. One year on from John Brown s attempted slave upheaval at Harper s Ferry, Virginia, the national debate regarding slavery had reached boiling point. Several Southern states had threatened to secede should Lincoln be elected president ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Children with ASD need a lot of support in communication, and they also have trouble listening. There are many excellent tips on page 313 for speaking and listening. E: I think it is important, as a future teacher, to be able to effectively listen and communicate with a child that has ASD. A tip about speaking that I though was pretty valuable was the tip on teaching children with autism how to control their tone and volume to match situations because I have experience children with autism blurting out at more quit times, etc. E: I had two friends that had autism, and they were so different. E: I think using a picture to spark creativity is a good idea for all children. During my experience hours, the teacher that I was aired with gave her student a picture of a woman pulling her hair out and two other children below her arguing, and the students had to write what each person was thinking and saying. • 4. The English Language Learner Is Defined By The Individuals... An English language learner is defined as someone who has sufficient difficulty speaking, reading, writing, or understanding the English language and whose difficulties may deny such individual the opportunity to learn successfully in classrooms where the language of instruction is in English (Ortiz, Woika, 2013, p. 2). As defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a child with a disability has mental retardation, hearing impairments (including deafness), speech or language impairments, visual impairments (including blindness), serious emotional disturbance, orthopedic impairments, autism, traumatic brain injury, other health impairments, or specific learning disabilities; and who, by reason thereof, needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a student is both an English language learner and has a learning disability, their educational needs become inherently more complex. However, through research on the needs of English language learners with disabilities, on various case laws, and by participating in lectures on the topics of English language learners and students with learning disabilities, I have come to a clearer understanding of these unique needs as well as the processes necessary to identify, evaluate, and work with these students. Prior to the 1960s, both English language learners and students with disabilities were often segregated from their peers, given inadequate instruction, and inappropriately assessed (Ortiz, Woika, 2013). This began to change when, with the holding of Brown vs. board of Education (1954), a principle for equal educational opportunities for all students was brought to fruition (Yell, 1998). After this decision, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 prohibited the discrimination of people on the basis of race, color, or national origin in the operation of federally assisted programs. A pesticide is a substance used to eliminate insects or other organisms that come into contact with the plant life that the substance is placed on, this tactic of removal is damaging to both harmful and helpful insects or organisms. 2. Essentially, the YouTube video gives an overview on honey bees, pollinators, being threatened due to harmful pesticides. It can be seen that fewer honey bees are coming out of the winter season and the ones that do are already weak, which puts them at a disadvantage. • 8. Behavioral Psychology And Neuropsychology And The... Philosophy of Psychology Jessica Germany Freed Hardeman University Philosophy of Psychology Introduction As an occupational therapist, I hope to use a number of different psychological theories. The main perspective I will use is Behavior Psychology. Most of my therapy techniques will come from Skinner s theory of operant condition. By using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), I can help modify children s behavior. The second perspective I will use is Neuropsychology. In treating autistic children, and other people with various disorders, it is important to understand the different brain chemistry that each has. In most circumstances, a part of the brain is affected that inhibits an aspect of the child s behavior. History Both behavioral psychology and neuropsychology have rich backgrounds. For the purposes of my philosophy of psychology, I will cover operant condition and Skinner s approach to verbal behavior. I will also look aspects of neuropsychology such as neuroplasticity and the dimensional systems model. I will also look at Sensory Integration theory, which combines a number of different perspectives including behavioral and neuropsychology. Behavioral Therapy The father of Behavioral Psychology is Watson. Another iconic psychologist in this aspect is B. F. Skinner. Skinner s major theory is operant conditioning. Operant behavior is defined as behavior controlled by its consequences (Staddon Cerutti, 2003). Operant behavior also uses reinforcement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Religous Inclusivism Difference Between Religion It ultimately invites the thought of all the prophets being accurate and sent by God to teach or spread the word. This combines all religions into one unit, and worshiping one God. I feel that this view is an amazingly compassionate but sort of complex when it comes to acceptance. ========================================== Earlier on within our class, one point which we discussed would be that of religious inclusionism which is basically the belief that there is one true religion yet we all worship this same deity. I feel that the Bahai position with regards to the unity of the religions has many similarities but also differences. The most obvious similarities would be that both notions hold that there is a singular deity and also that there is a sort of attempt to reconcile such different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I feel that the difference between inclusivism (as defined by the textbook) and the Bahai faith would be that their justification differs. Religous inclusivism (since it is not inherently related to any religion) does not have any singular justification for the idea that all paths led to one so to speak. Although such a notion I have seen more or less is based on the assertion that it is because God simply appears different to different people which is why people have such different views. The Bahai faith slightly differs in the stance that the justification is given by means of noting that the contexts were different and that was the justification for why it is different. Thus it could be summed up by saying that Bahai views such differences as being more contextual in nature while religious inclusivism (as defined by the textbook) views them as being more individualist so to speak. However, in spite of this, I still think that the Bahai notion still has issues within it that can be difficult to justify from a theological stance. The main issue is that such religions often contain conflicting views with each other when it comes to central matters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Nsa Should Create A Privilege Management Program The IT department should create a privilege management program in active directory that ensures personnel only have access to material to resources and information they require. These access controls should also be deployed when there s a suspicion or termination of an employee. In the case of the two interns, the network administrator should create login hours and system specific login s tp prevent any leak in information during the after hours. The recent issues at the National Security Agency (NSA) displayed what can happen with an unaudited IT department, and according to the Register: The NSA policy prevents a typical worker from doing things like copying files to USB thumb drives or other external storage. But Snowden had an easy way around those restrictions, simply by virtue of being classified as systems administrator. With that privilege, Snowden would have been able to move files around at will, sources claim (Tim Worstall, 2013). This catastrphe could have been prevented, if the NSA had a robust access control in place to detour Snowden from causing significant damage. Some network security concerns that should be addressed is the physical component while damage can be inflicted on the network from remote terminal, an attacker with physical access is a much greater concern. • 13. Leibniz And Locke s Nature Of Innate Ideas Leibniz and Locke argued back and forth about the nature of innate ideas and whether or not they could/do exist. Locke took the position that in order for innate ideas to exist, they must be universal and universally assented to by all people. Leibniz counters by distinguishing between contingent and necessary truths, pointing out that no amount of experience will give us insight to necessary truths and that they must be innate. He also brings up the example of innate moral knowledge that most people know without having to be taught. Leibniz seems to come out ahead in this debate due to his ability to show how Locke s definitions were arbitrary and there do seem to be ideas that, while not universally assented to, the vast majority of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another proposed replacement for Locke s definition is that an innate idea is assented to in the very instance that it is understood. But again, sensory experiences also fall under this definition, because as soon as you experience something you understand what it is, such as red is not yellow and vice versa. Locke also makes the claim that there are no universally assented to moral principles/knowledge. On many occasions, people have done immoral things, knowing that they are immoral. And if they did not know that their actions were immoral (as is the case with the criminally insane), then that moral knowledge was not universally assented to and was not innate in that person. The legal system and laws themselves go against the idea of innate moral knowledge. If the principles were innate, there would be no need to deliberate or argue over the meanings or intricacies of certain laws or amendments that guide society. Like Locke, Leibniz makes a distinction for his argument. He distinguishes between mental content (ideas for Locke) that is gained from sensory experiences and mental content that is not. He structures his argument around the following main claims: An idea can be known without its thinker being conscious of the idea in question. Necessary truths and contingent truths are separate entities. Necessary truths are a priori (innate) truths, while contingent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When you walk through the doors on your first day of school, you are confident and ready for everything to come, but by the last day of eighth grade, you are exhausted, almost as if the school itself sucked the life right out of you. And yet, you have new friends, amazing teachers, and new interests that you had never even given a second thought before middle school. I myself have had many experiences in the middle school, good and bad. On one faithful day in fifth grade, I became acquainted with my close friend, Azzia Berestecki. At the time, we hated each other with the passion of a bull charging at a rodeo clown painted red. She was the popular one, always surrounded by friends, and lovingly accepting the rule of teacher s pet. I was the quiet girl who had a small circle of friends, and I was considered weird and annoying by Azzia and her friends. We went on like this for a while, hating each other for reasons none other than biases. Then, as if by fate, we both joined the robolab team at the beginning of seventh grade. We regarded each other at a bare minimum for a majority of the year, but then the unimaginable happened. My mother was rushed to the emergency room and was taken in for brain surgery. The American scheme for containment of German forces at Faid was centered upon the key terrain features of Djebel Ksaira to the south and Djebel Lessouda to the north. Artillery observation posts on both hills provided visual coverage of the exits from Faid Pass and of the road from Maknassy to the south. • 21. Sheldon s Attempt To Condition Penny The clip from Big Bang Theory features Sheldon attempting to condition Penny. He tries operant conditioning on her, which is learning through the consequences of a behaviour. He performs this by manipulating chocolate as positive reinforcement to modify Penny s behavior. A reinforcement is a consequence of a response that increases the likelihood of that response reoccurring in the future. Every time Penny behaves the way Sheldon desires, she is given a piece of chocolate, a reinforcer, therefore the schedule that follows the reinforcement is continuous and a fixed ratio. There are numerous instances where Sheldon tries to increase the likelihood of Penny s behaviours using positive reinforcements. While the original behaviour of Penny was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Originally, Penny was very talkative and excited to share her stories, but the wanted behaviour from Sheldon was that she would stop talking. When she did so, the behaviour is positively reinforced and the likelihood of repetition is increased by Sheldon giving her chocolate as a reward. Penny initially demonstrates her fascination by the coincidence that Kim s replacement has the same name her her husband, however the wanted behaviour from Sheldon was referring to Kim as freaky. She learns so through imitation modelling, which is repeating/copying what Sheldon said/did. Sheldon then reinforces this behaviour with chocolate, which is a desirable reward and a positive reinforcer. When Sheldon asks if Penny would keep the decibels of their amorous activities to a minimum , she replies with of course, which is the wanted behaviour. From the conversation, it is implied that the original behaviour was the volume of their activity being disturbant. Because of the chocolate acting as a positive reinforcer, the likelihood of the recurrence of the wanted behaviour(promising to keep her volume down) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Essay on The Iliad of Homer and Greek Heroes The Iliad is an epic tale of war and hero s within the Greek way of life. A predominant and consistent theme of honor and glory reside throughout the poem. The motivation for any Homeric Greek is glory, or Kleos , that is to be honored and respected among their people. Emphasis is put on living by the heroic code. Honor is essential to the Greeks and life would not be worth living without it. When a warrior or hero is advised to avoid risking their life in battle it almost drives them even further towards the deed. It is better to be killed in action rather than to live and be thought a coward. By our rational standards one would certainly not be thought a coward if they didn t rush into battle to almost certain death, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would be brought back to the homeland and displayed as a sign of power; this is how Kleos was attained, and how respect was earned. To the victor went more than the battle armor. They would regularly take their pick of the local women to take back with them and lay in bed together . This became one of the centerpieces for the conflict between Achilleus and Agamemnon, when a quarrel arose and Achilleus was asked to allow Briseis, a prize that he won in battle, to go back to her land. It is common to keep your female prizes as your own; however, Achilleus felt that his ego was tested when he was asked to return her. This went hand in hand with the honor factor, it would be shameful for him to oblige and give back what he rightfully won. After all, she was a symbol of Kleos, by giving her back he was losing something which he strived so hard to attain. The Greek warrior was very selfish, there was no sense of community on their foremost mind, and it was about the self and their status among others. The warrior who was most feared was the warrior that got the most respect and admirations from the generations that would follow. The poem is after all about Achilleus, a great warrior that fought hard and attained much glory in doing so. The shame that one would feel from avoiding battle is evident in many cases throughout the poem. When Hektor is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Population Genetics In 1831, Charles Darwin, proposed a theory of evolution occurring by the process of natural selection. This has come to be known as the Theory of Natural Selection. Darwin worked on his theory for 20 years and after learning that Alfred Russel Wallace, another naturalist, had developed similar ideas, the two made a joint announcement of their discovery in 1858. Darwin published On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection in 1859, 28 years after he proposed his theory of natural selection. [4] A definitive description of Huntington s Chorea occurred, when George Huntington submitted his article On chorea to the Medical and Surgical Reporter of Philadelphia, USA, in 1872, 31 years after Waters gave his description of the disorder. Waters described a disorder which is markedly hereditary, very rarely makes its appearance before adult life, in all cases induces a state of more or less perfect dementia and never ceases while life lasts . The disease was recorded early on by observers; however Waters description was the first detailed description of the disease. It is believed that the disease was present among the population at a much earlier date as it is caused by a dominant allele. Because of its long history, and the fact that the mutation rate for Huntington s chorea is among the lowest recorded for any inherited condition, the disease has great potential in genealogical investigations. The Afrikaner population posed as a great source to study the disease because of the excellent recording of the origins and history of the Afrikaner nation. The excellent documentation facilitated efforts to trace the disease back to the earliest transmission of the gene to South Africa. In their research they found that the only previous attempt to investigate the genealogy of this disease in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Scientific Management And The Mission Vision And Guiding... Evidence Based/Scientific Management directly supports the mission vision and guiding principles of some healthcare managers. As Evidence Based Managers, it is critical to understand that everyone is not going to support Evidence Based management. However, it is an essential tool that can be used to improve managers overall efficiency and effectiveness of any organization. The major test and prospects for today s complicated healthcare delivery systems require that leaders take charge of their operations. A strong operations focus can reduce costs, increase safety, improve clinical and non clinical outcomes, and allow an organization to compete effectively with an uncompromising market (McLaughlin Hays, 2008). Performance improvement projects should be methodical and efficient. Without a well defined process, confusion is likely to ensue, and the performance improvement panel might not achieve the required results (Spath, 2013). The researcher will discuss the history of healthcare management and the case for and against scientific/evidence based management. In addition, this paper will further to describe Great Britain s healthcare policy and evidence based practice; performance improvement tools, and Six Sigma. The benefits and disadvantages of Evidence Based Management will also be addressed. • 26. La Casa De Bernarda Alba Essay The House of Bernarda Alba is the third play in the trilogy knows as the Rural Trilogy alongside Blood Wedding and Yerma by Federico García Lorca. Garcia Lorca was a Spanish poet, playwright, who was a member of the Generation of 27. Garcia Lorca s main themes include the tension between social responsibility and individual freedom as well as love and tragedy. After the death of her second husband, Bernarda Alba is locked up at home and imposes a rigorous and suffocating mourning for eight years, forbidding her five daughters to go out into the street. When Angustias, the firstborn, and only daughter of the first husband, inherits a fortune, attracts a young man, Pepe the Roman. The young man gets engaged to Angustias, but at the same time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The symbols Lorca uses are diverse; he uses the same symbols in many of his other works. According to Sharp it was natural for him to use symbols of nature to deal with the problems concerning life and reproduction... Black and white colors The white walls contrast with the women s mourning dresses. The contrasts are very frequent in the work of Lorca, and in La casa de Bernarda Alba can symbolize the dichotomy that exists between what the individual wants and what society demands, or in this case what the daughters want and what Bernarda demands of them. White also represents purity, and black, death. The contrast reinforces the idea of a photographic documentary, which Lorca wanted to convey. In Lorca s works, the color green signifies rebellion and the yearning for freedom. Adela rebels against her mother s will and dresses in green. This color also symbolizes the death for Lorca, and indeed Adela dies at the end. Bernarda s cane is a symbol of tyrannical power and its phallic form represents patriarchal values. Another theory is that alludes to the blindness of Bernarda to the desires of her daughters. Throughout the play, there is a horse that furiously hits the walls of the stable representing the masculinity and lust. Heat is present at all times and the characters constantly mention it. It represents repressed passion. Stagnant water is used as a symbol of death. The village has no rivers, only wells and water that moves throughout rivers is said to represent life. The moon is considered a lorquiano symbol that represents death and seduction, in this case seduction lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His possible sentencing is Twenty five years to life in prison. Steve is only sixteen years old, so one can only imagine how terrified he must be. To deal with his trial as well as the viciousness of prison, Steve records his experience in a journal in the form of a screen play. The question that disturbs him most is: Am I truly a monster? He is depicted as a monster by some of the witnesses in court, and he believes the jury and even his own lawyer sees him as a monster as well. Nonetheless, the trial does come to an end with verdicts that prove James King guilty and Steve not guilty. He is thrilled that he is found innocent, but five months later Steve is still troubled about who he really is. He seeks answers by continuing to record his thoughts, filming himself, and examining his reflection in the mirror. The major theme surrounding Monster is awareness. This theme can be easily compared in several of the actual recognized, American literary works. Feminism taken to Extremes in A Streetcar Named Misogyny As women s studies programs have proliferated throughout American universities, feminist re readings of certain classic authors have provided us with the most nonsensical interpretations of these authors texts. A case in point is that of Kathleen Margaret Lant s interpretation of Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire in her essay entitled A Streetcar Named Misogyny. Throughout the essay, she continually misreads Williams intention, which of course causes her to misunderstand the play itself. Claiming that the play has proved vexing to audiences, directors, actors, readers, and critics (Lant 227), she fails to see that it is she herself who finds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stanley s rape of Blanche is the action that sends him beyond the pale of civilized existence. That he gets away with murder hardly justifies his action; indeed, the audience s feelings of disgust with his character and his behavior are only heightened when he is left unpunished. Ironically, one of Lant s feminist mentors, Andrea Dworkin, whom she cites thrice in her essay, has written in her book Intercourse that there is nothing in the text of the play, despite the way it is sometimes staged, to suggest that she [Blanche] wanted it [i.e. to be raped] all along. In fact, there is a pronounced and emotionally vivid history of her wanting its opposite a sexuality of tenderness and sensitivity (Dworkin 44). Another of Lant s mentors, Susan Brownmiller, whom she cites twice in her paper, has written that Tennessee Williams has always treated the rape theme with sensitivity. Stanley Kowalski s rape of Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire is also no glamorization, for Blanche, however damaged, represents fragility and aspiration while Stanley is symbolic of the darker forces of nihilism (Brownmiller 337, footnote). It is ironic that Lant should so differ in her interpretation of the play from two of her feminist mentors. Lant is trying, perhaps, to out Herodias Herodias. After the rape, again in Lant s opinion, Blanche is no longer fully human, but is simply a metaphor for all that is vile about women. But in the relationship between ... • 29. Nuclear Weapons Are The Most Deadly Nuclear weapons are the most deadly, destructive, and powerful form of technology that the world has ever created. Officially, only 9 states out of 196 in the international arena have possession of them. Although nuclear weapons are being eliminated by states, they still hold a significant value for nations in the IR arena with a nuclear annihilation capacity. States within the international community that own nuclear arsenals are automatically feared and respected because of the status symbol they hold. Conversely, this prestige, power, and influence can also back fire on states and become a disadvantage. States can lose power in the international community by causing tensions and dividing themselves between states who don t have these nuclear advantages. France is one country in particular that resembles a superpower with nuclear capability. France has gained power in the International community through NATO due to their possession of nuclear weapons. Overall, nuclear weapons still represent a great power in the International Arena today and will continue holding that power. The ability to produce and launch dangerous, nuclear weapons help states earn a negotiation power in the international community because nuclear power is equated to political power. • 30. The Tragedy Of King Lear By William Shakespeare In the eyes of many, the world might appear to entail solely happiness and prosperity. Beyond the oblivion is arguably a more practical depiction of real life, filled with cold truths and merciless mistakes. Few figures in history have captured this essence of reality to such a high degree as Aristotle, a revolutionary thinker whose ideas shaped Greek tragedy. Within his theory of tragedy is the concept of the tragic hero, whose great, ironic flaw leads to his own downfall. The tragic hero is of an elevated position in society but should, all the same, be a character with whom the audience can relate. The hero undergoes a massive revelation and experiences dramatic enlightenment. The tragedy of King Lear, written by William Shakespeare, illustrates the story of a proud and self centered king, whose obtuse judgement shapes his demise. Lear s impulsive actions catalyze a chain of events, inspiring emotion from the characters and the audience alike. On the surface, King Lear fits the description of Aristotle s tragic hero. Discrepancies in Lear s tale, however, contradict the idea of an idyllic relationship between Lear and the philosophies of Aristotle. Lear s faults correspond to those of the audience, but their extremity proves to be unique. One might think King Lear becomes cognizant of his decisions, but his fall to insanity acts in conflict. The lack of catharsis in King Lear also precipitates the build up of negative sentiment. Although King Lear is meant to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
