CJS/205 Composition for Communication in the Criminal Justice System
October 12, 2015
The definition of communication varies when it comes to the situation. Communication can be derived
from a conversation amongst one another or communication can lead to an interview (for a job, a case,
or to obtain information). Human communication is the way in which humans exchange meaningful
ideas with one another (Justak, 2014). Communication is the first instrument that humans used in their
process to socialize, interact with others can be defined as the process of sending information, to
convince others to understand our point of view and build relations. What is ... Show more content on

I interviewed my mother who is 73 years old and has lived through many things (good and bad). I sat
and asked her what her favorite childhood memory was? She lived a life of poverty that just about
anything that didn t have to do with helping out around the house, with her siblings, or her parents
were gratifying. However, this is one story that I have heard from her countless times. Her favorite
childhood memory was going to school and being asked to sing in front of the classroom. The feeling
that nothing mattered in the world that money couldn t even compare to this emotion. Though too
many school isn t exciting because we are obligated to go, but to her it was a privilege to attend school
since back in those days not many children could attend school because there was a higher demand to
help at home that education wasn t an option. As she recounted this story I noticed a face of mixed
emotions. Her expressions and her voice would have happiness in them yet they also had sad
emotions.
Gathering stories from two different individuals with a big age gap consisted of several issues. My
daughter would pause during her story to try to remember what exactly happened. The voice
intonation and body language would at times lead me to believe she could possibly be lying about
some of the things that happened (Justak, 2014). Their where pieces of the story that she couldn t
recall and would skip what happened next or jump on to the

Yellowtone Extremophies
Yellowstone National Park is a truly unique place. Few places in the world contain such amazing
biodiversity, and such a wide variety of species in such a condensed area. While many scientists have
been interested in studying the various plants and animals that inhabit Yellowstone, a group of
microorganisms that has been of special interest in the past few years are Yellowstone s extremophiles
the microorganisms that inhabit Yellowstone s thermal springs. Extremophiles have opened the eyes of
science to the possibilities of life in extreme conditions, helping us to understand how they adapt to
such seemingly inhospitable environments. They have also helped us to make several important
advances in the fields of medicine and biotechnology. Before the discovery of extremophiles in
Yellowstone, it was widely believed that life simply could not survive at extremely high temperatures,
as extremely high temperatures quickly denature proteins in cells. Although most organisms are
unable to survive in such extreme climates, the microorganisms that inhabit Yellowstone s thermal
vents are able to thrive in them. Before the discovery of many microorganisms in thermal areas, it was
believed that the hottest temperature at which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These organisms use several adaptations in order to survive high temperatures. They are prokaryotes,
which more easily adapt to extreme temperatures than eukaryotes. They use salts such as potassium
and magnesium to protect their DNA from degradation, and they generate special polyamines that help
to protect the proteins in their DNA from being degraded in high temperatures. One adaptation that
thermophilic archaea have that helps them to survive high temperatures is ether bonds in their cell
membranes, which are more stable than bonds found in many other

The Very Simple Plot Of A Tragedy
The very simple plot of a tragedy involves a protagonist who desires something object of love, power,
wealth, righteousness, justice and obstacles come in the way of his path to reach its fulfillment. (
Tragedy. Literature of Love. N.p., 14 June 2010. Web. 29 Mar. 2017.) In the book El Señor Presidente
the protagonist is involved in a love tragedy where he desires Camila s love but him being the
president s right hand becomes an obstacle for him and his relationship. Political corruption increases
the amount of suffering and pain that Miguel Cara de Angel and all the people who surround him

In a love tragedy the protagonist always desires something that will cause them many obstacles in

that they cannot achieve what they desire. Era un ángel: tez de dorado mármol, cabellos rubios, boca

Imperialism In South Africa
The failure of the Union of South Africa in achieving equality for all inhabitants was a result of the
prevailing factor of racial discrimination against native Africans. The pre existing desire to establish a
white supremacy characterised southern African colonisation which caused conflict between the
British and Boers (German and French settlers). The discovery of gold and diamonds in the Veld
instigated industrialisation and exploitation of African labour and with increased imperialistic
expansion, British and Boer forces declared war resulting in desecration of African land and
communities. The Union further cemented racial segregation against black societies with the creation
of European administrative structures that ensured settler minorities ... Show more content on

The existing tension between the Boer and British colonies was heightened due to the Boer s increased
concern about the domination of foreign miners (Uitlanders) in the Southern Transvaal and the
annexation of the region by the British in 1887. The president of the Boer colonies, Paul Kruger
overthrew the annexation and wished to maintain Boer control in the Transvaal by imposing restrictive
voting rights to the Uitlanders. The British considered this action as morally corrupt and chose to take
military action against the Boers therefore declaring war on October 9, 1899. The war ended in 1902
with the Boers relinquishing their independency by allowing Britain to annex the Boer colonies. The
defeat of the Boers was due to the implementation of the scorched earth policy by the British which
annihilated the opposition s farmland and livestock and exhausted their food supplies. The tactic
disregarded the land rights of indigenous people and further separated their connection with the land
and consequent identity. 26,000 Boer women and children were placed in internment camps with
15,000 indigenous people being placed in concentration camps where 10% of them died from disease
and malnutrition. The 110,000 Africans assisting the Boer and British forces in the war suffered from
extreme hardships and discriminatory acts including the disproportionate rationing of food supplies
and inconsideration of land rights. The victory of the British promised improvements to the living
conditions of African people with imperial politicians assuring that there would be equality for all
races. The factor of the Anglo Boer War resulted in the reduction of African communities and
disregard for their interests for the need to attain

Demand for Medical Care
Demand for Medical Care The demand for medical care is derived from our demand for good health.
Michael Grossman was the first to do econometric research on this topic. Grossman s work
established two approaches for consideration. In the first, medical care is viewed as an input in the
production function for health, and in the second, as an output produced by medical care providers
(Henderson, p.142). There are two main factors that determine the demand for medical care. The first
is the patient factor. This includes a patient s health status, demographic characteristics and economic
status. The second is the physician factor. This is an interesting topic because it introduces the
principal (patient) agent (physician) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The demand for medical care has a consumption component and an investment component. The
consumption component is the part that you expect to use lets say on a yearly basis. You probably go
to the doctor s office about once a year for a checkup. The investment component is the part that you
hope doesn t happen but just in case you will be able to finance for the occasion. Individuals who are
willing to invest in a college education are the same individuals who are willing to spend time and
money on improving their health (Henderson p.150). One of the most efficient ways to produce health
is to educate oneself. The more knowledge you know about your own health the less you will have to
go to the physician s office. Education has been proven statistically to lower demand for healthcare.
The ‘Elasticity for education is approximately equal to one tenth (Weiss Lecture 9/9/99). This means
for every ten percent increase in medical care there is a one percent increase in health. A proper diet
and daily exercise are also important to improving ones health. Both of these factors have produced
positive elasticity measures as well. The are two factors that affect the demand for medical care. The
first is the patient factor. The patient factor is composed of three variables. A patient s health status,
demographic characteristics and economic status are the three variables that are the most efficient way
to produce health. Patients most often seek treatment for

The Australian Judicial System
Within the context of the Australian judicial system, all legal proceedings are subject to certain rules
regarding the admissibility of evidence. In the mid 1990 s, the existing rules of evidence were
replaced by the Uniform Evidence Act s, as a means whereby consistency of decision making could be
better observed. These new rules lay out standards which must be strictly adhered to, to ensure that the
rights of both parties to a case are respected, allowing for a fair trial to take place. The specific act
which will be used is dependent on the jurisdiction of the court itself; all High Court, Federal Court,
Family Court, Federal Magistrates Court, and ACT courts are subject to The Evidence Act (Cth). The
Tasmanian, New South Wales and Victorian Evidence Acts are marginally different from that of the
Commonwealth, however generally speaking they are the same with a few minor differences .
Under the Uniform Evidence Act s, regardless of whether or not a certain piece of evidence meets the
relevant admissibility requirements, a judge in certain circumstances can use their discretion to
exclude pieces of evidence that are unfairly prejudicial on the part of the accused, which could have a
negative effect on juries assessment of a fact in issue. The discretionary powers under the Act are
based on principles established at common law, which are commonly referred to as the Christie
Discretion . An example of one of these powers under the Evidence Act is seen in section 135, which

Essay about Hellfire and Damnation
Hellfire and Damnation Looking back on my childhood, I have many memories shrouded in fear and
self loathing. I was raised in the Baptist church. My mother and grandmother made sure that I attended
church every Sunday morning. My grandmother was from the mid west. She carried her strict Bible
belt background with her as she traveled west with my grandfather. The many lessons I learned from
my grandmother and the minister at our church played a big part in how I began to see the world and
my place in it.
It would seem, looking back now, that the whole basis for my teachings during those early years was
fear. I had the most intense fear of going to Hell. The only thing one had to know about Hell was that
it was the place where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were rotten to the core. We did not deserve God s love or anyone s love, yet God loved us anyway.
That made God a really great guy.
My interpretation of this particular sermon was that I was a horrible person not worthy of love. I was a
sinner and I was going to Hell. I would cry myself to sleep at night because I was so sure that I would
be one of those lost souls for all of eternity. The minister talked of redemption. All I had to do to be
saved and get into heaven was confess my sins and ask for forgiveness.
I was sure, however, that I had far too many sins to be forgiven; besides, I wasn t really sorry for most
of my sins. I could not feel bad about questioning my parents and the church s authority. Most of the
time it seemed that they contradicted themselves or just didn t make any sense at all. I had a very hard
time digesting the teachings of the church that included both a God who would demand killing and
sacrifice and the same God who would love and protect his children. Due to the teachings I received
and with so many people being in agreement, I just figured they must be right on some level, which
made me the odd man out and the one destined to pay with my soul.
All I had to do was to take a look at the Ten Commandments to see that I was not doing so well in the
eyes of the Lord. You must not Murder, I hadn t done that. You must not commit adultery. I didn t
even know what that meant. You must not

Separation Lab Report
Title: Separation Lab
Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to successfully separate a mixture of iron filings, poppy seeds,
sand and salt.
Hypothesis: In my opinion, I think it is possible to successfully separate the mixture.
Procedure: 1. We got a Dixie cup with the mixture of iron fillings. 2. We got an iron magnet and
stirred it around the mixture in the Dixie cup to attract all the iron filings. 3. Then, we put all of the
iron filings that we separated into a evaporating dish. 4. Next, we added water to the Dixie cup. 5. We
took a spoon, and scooped out all the poppy seeds that floated to the top of the Dixie cup. 6. Get ...

to do, when we got back in the lab. Then, we did our lab experiment. We observed closely and
recorded the data. Afterwards, we organized and evaluated our data that we recorded; this process is
called Data Analysis. We organized how each substance was separated. Then, we used all the data that
we collected and recorded to write our conclusion.

the other substances. If, we did the procedure in any order, it would ve been harder to separate each

Analysis Of The Book The Winter
SYMBOLISM
Seasons
In The Skating Party, each season brings a separate event for Nathan. In the spring, he falls in love
with Delia. Spring is shown as a happy season full of blooming plants, which directly correlates with
his budding love for Delia. In Fall, Nathan falls in love with Eunice. Fall is still considered to be a
nice season, however it is often raining, and doesn t have as joyful of a mood as spring. This
symbolism of these two seasons shows that Nathan always liked Delia more, and had a higher regard
for his love for her than his love with Eunice. Finally, in the winter, Nathan faces the tragedy of
Eunice s death. Winter is a season when plants and trees die, which is not coincidentally the season
that his fiancée passes away as well.
Frozen Lake, Ice Skating
When Maida s mother, Winnie, speaks of skating, she remembers it as a happy time. Winnie always
used to skate when she was younger, so this as a result created numerous pleasant memories for her.
However, for Uncle Nathan, ice skating represents death and grief; it was while he was skating that he
lost his fiancée, Eunice, so he doesn t like to think of this activity as a result.
Stone Man
At the beginning of this story, Nathan and Maida s parents tell her about the Stone Man that once
stood on the hill that their house is on. Maida s Grandfather needed more land to grow his crops, and
the only land he could use was where the Stone Man stood; he was forced to choose between leaving

Review Of Cybersecurity Risks Of Medical Device Software
REVIEW OF CYBERSECURITY RISKS OF MEDICAL DEVICE SOFTWARE
SURESH K. VELUPULA
FRANKLIN UNIVERSITY
COMP 650 R1WW, FALL 2014 Abstract
Nowadays, more and more medical devices are increasingly being converted or replaced from electro
mechanical devices to software controlled networked devices. Software for these medical devices
would need to be kept to update to keep up with the security (worms and viruses) concerns and
governing regulations while not risking the health of the patient. In this paper the author analyzes the
viewpoints and presents a review of the paper: Inside Risks: Controlling for Cybersecurity Risks of
Medical Device Software (Fu and Blum, 2013). Fu and Blum (2013) give their views on the
cybersecurity risks associated with the medical devices. Some of their key points are: a) medical
devices depend on software for providing care and services. b) Security risks could cause harm to the
patient. c) Post market surveillance of the medical device is required. d) Health data integrity and
availability of patient care are crucial as compared to hacking of medical devices. e) Provide
incentives to user facilities to report security vulnerabilities and security incidents. f) Manufacturers
should consider cybersecurity during design phase of the medical device. g) Match the underlying
software life cycles with the lifecycle of the medical device. h) Standards and regulations to protect
cybersecurity would need to be created and enforced thoroughly. i) Provide

Process Of Aging
Although many people dread the process of aging, getting older is simply a natural part of life. Factors
such as genetic make up, overall health, and stress all play a part in how each person ages. But at some
point, every single person will inevitably grow older. When examining the typical lifespan of human
beings, it s evident that physical changes take place even from the time of infancy and early
childhood. From the very moment of birth, our bodies embark on the journey of development.
Because of the fact that we all experience aging, it is important to know what the process of becoming
older entails. In order to equip communities with the information they need, developmental
psychologists have taken it upon themselves to study the behaviors, ... Show more content on

Throughout infancy and the early childhood years, people are more aware of the importance of age
related milestones, which leads them to pay closer attention. However, the further on the journey of
adulthood, the more variability there is among others who are also our own age. In fact, change is not
evaluated based off of chronological age alone. It does, of course, play a role. But it isn t everything.
Biological age, which is a measure of how an adult s physical condition compares with others within
their age range, is used in the evaluation of physical systems. Biological age can also be altered
through lifestyle changes. On the other hand, psychological age refers to the measure of how well an
adult is able to deal effectively with the environment in comparison to others. An example of this
would be a 30 year old woman who constantly arrives to work late because she sleeps in. Although her
biological age is 30, her psychological age is much lower than that. Social age is a measure of the
expected roles a person takes on at a specific point in their life. A 20 year old who works full time,
goes to school, and helps her family support their household is going to have a much higher social age
than her biological age. Having an awareness of these terms helps in understanding the complexity of

Diet, Micronutrients And Nutrition Supplements
Diet, micronutrients and nutrition supplements have long been studied and utilized in the maintenance
of skin health, beauty and integrity. The skin is the largest organ of the body, consisting of three
layers: the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis, providing a protective layer from the external
environment.1 The dermis and hypodermis contain the cutaneous vascular system, allowing for
deliverance of nutrients to the skin, temperature regulation, immune function and wound healing.
Manifestations of poor skin health can be caused by various nutritionally related conditions, such as
vitamin deficiencies, malnutrition or obesity, as well as other disease states that can negatively impact
normal skin physiology. Nutrition as a treatment or causation of certain skin diseases, such as atopic
dermatitis and non melanoma skin cancer has become a controversial area of study.2 One of the most
disputed controversies in the history of dermatological research has involved the role of nutrition in
acne development. It is estimated that greater than 17 million Americans suffer from acne, resulting in
negative psychological and emotional impacts.3 The disease effects between 80 90% of adolescents in
America, yet is also prevalent in many adults, with the average age of treatment being 24. Since acne
often persists into adulthood, hormonal imbalances and endocrine signaling during puberty cannot be
the only cause.4 Due to the frequent occurrence of acne in the United States, many health care

Jealousy In Shakespeare And William Shakespeare s Othello
Jealousy can cause many things to occur. For example, manipulation, betrayal, and death.
Manipulation, to get them to do things that they know is not good for them for instance, drugs or
alcohol. Betrayal, is getting jealous of their accomplishments. Also death, for being so jealous of a
friend who has accomplished so much that killing is the best solution to get rid of them. In the movie
O a modern version of Othello by William Shakespeare and Julius Caesar also written by William
Shakespeare, Odin and Caesar were manipulated for being the best at what they do. Jealousy could
really get anyone killed. Odin is a star basketball player at Columbine High School, he was well
known and had great accomplishments, when someone is doing well then others tend to get
competitive and jealous. Odin is very brilliant and has a bright future ahead of him. I mean who would
not be jealous? Odin was manipulated by his friends because of how big of a star he was. Jealousy
will lead to betraying, his friends were trying to make him do stuff that he know he would get in

Figurative Language In Anne Bradstreet s To My Dear And...
Anne Bradstreet s poem, To My Dear and Loving Husband, is a small poem wherein she s revealing
her never ending love, devotion, and appreciation for her spouse. The fact that she was born around
the seventeenth century could mean it is puritan culture for women to remain reserved, regardless of
how they may truly feel; however, she makes it her obligation to make her husband aware of feelings,
whether positive or negative. She uses figurative language and declarative tone through imagery,
repetition, and paradoxes to send her message. To My Dear and Loving Husband can be interpreted in
many ways by many different people depending how it is initially read. This uncertainty allows the
poem to be interpreted on a surface level and on a deeper level.
One can sense the sincere meaning in poem on a literal level. A literal meaning of
Bradstreet s comes across when analyzed solely on the surface. It is initially assumed that she is
expressing her sincerest, undying love for husband. The poem opens with two if/then statements,
which sets up quite a logical tone. In the first line of her poem she states, If ever two were one, then
surely we (1). This line entertains the belief that she and her husband are one entity; what happens to
one, will happen to the other. Also, the speaker says that if two people were ever one person, then she
and her husband surely are. In the second, she says that if ever any man has been loved by his wife,
her husband has been. (2). As stated

Analysis On The Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System
The integrated geophysical, remote sensing, isotopic and geochronologic and modelling studies on the
Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System have come up with the following findings and recommendations:
1 Geophysical studies:
Based on the integration of gravity, magnetic, and borehole data the structural trends, uplifts and
sedimentary cover affecting the aquifer behavior have been conducted. The area of the NSAS is
affected by several structural trends in different directions; the most prominent directions are NE SW,
N S, E W, and NW SE. The dominant NE SW trend is associated with the Pelusium and Qattara mega
shears.
The sedimentary cover shows a northward increase from less than 0.5 km in northern Sudan and
southern Egypt to more than 6 km at the Mediterranean coast. The sediments thickness shows a
shallowing of the basement rocks along the east west trending Uweinat Aswan basement uplift which
may impede the south to north groundwater flow and replenishment from the recharge areas in the
south.
The NE SW trending Pelusium mega shear cuts the Precambrian rocks and continues upward in the
sedimentary cover; it formed deep structural controlled basins along its zone, which were filled by
high thick sediments of relatively high hydraulic conductivities extending from the Kufra Basin in
Libya and Chad to the northern part of Dakhla Basin in Egypt. This zone could provide a preferred
groundwater flow pathway from the Kufra to the Dakhla Basin.

The Soviet Union Responsible For The Consolidation Of...
ESSAY PLAN
To what extent was the Soviet Union responsible for the consolidation of communism in Eastern
Europe in the period 1945 1953?
Introduction
During the aftermath of World War II, the Soviet Union was primarily responsible for the
consolidation of communism in Eastern Europe.
It was in the spring of 1948 that the Soviet Union had aggressively pushed for the imposition of
Communist rule in most East European nations o Eastern Europe under Communist rule was
comprised of Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania and Yugoslavia
East European nations started to adopt USSR foreign policy agreements and embarked on Stalinist
transformations of their political, social and economic systems
The Soviet Union s domestic policies combined with Stalin s external ambitions were key factors in
the consolidation of Communism in Eastern Europe
The Soviet Union as an emerging global power in the post war context
After WWII, Stalin and other Soviet officials were determined that Eastern Europe be converted into a
buffer zone against future invasions from other nations o Many Eastern European countries began to
support the Soviet Union
Stalin viewed the creation of a buffer zone in Eastern Europe as the best way to obtain economic
benefits from the region o From eastern Germany, the Soviet Union extracted 3 500 factories and 1.15
million pieces of industrial equipment in 1945 and 1946 o There was an increase in Soviet military
power in Eastern Europe

How Does the United Nations Support Environmental...
Introduction
About the United Nations
The United Nations is an international organization, which was founded in 1945 after the Second
World War, committed to providing the means to help resolve international conflicts and formulate
policies on matters affecting human beings all over the world (Wikipedia). The organization is
committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among
nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights (Wikipedia). Ensuring
environmental sustainability , climate change being one of the major factors, is one of the millennium
development goals of the UN. The United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, along with many
organizations/agencies under the UN, collaboratively work towards achieving this goal.
About the Chosen Aspect of Study
How does the United Nations support the millennium development goal of promoting environmental
sustainability by limiting climate change in South and North America? This investigation shall focus
on the previously mentioned question as this a very interesting topic to further research on, also as I
believe that the UN has played an enormous role in promoting environmental sustainability in South
and North America, and therefore would make a good topic to further research on. This topic is
worthy of studying as by knowing of what many before us have done to protect and sustain the
environment, we can look into aiding the environment to a

Metaphors In Brokeback Mountain
In Ang Lee s film Brokeback Mountain, two men, Ennis and Jack, cross paths and develop a complex,
taboo relationship that neither of them can explain. They lose their wives, children, and ultimately feel
as if they lose their own grasp of who they are as men while exploring their feelings for each other.
Nature and the surroundings of Ennis and Jack play a vital role in understanding the mood of the
situation and their feelings throughout the story. The story is primarily expressed through its
surroundings; this is how the emotions of the characters are expressed. Instead of being
straightforward, the nature is a more meaningful and effective way to illustrate their feelings. Annie

Lee incorporates the sound of wind to illustrate the metaphor of insecurity. The opening scene with the
truck driving through the hills includes several extreme long shots with a cold, dark atmosphere and
sharp, unwelcoming music and the sound of wind, which returns when Ennis is leaning against his
trailer moments later. These scenes foreshadow the events to come with Jack and the feelings of
lostness and insecurity that Ennis feels. In the scene after Jack and Ennis s first sexual encounter in the
tent, Ennis and Jack are horsing around in the field while Joe, their boss, watches them in disgust.
During this scene, the wind is loud and the trees shake, representing distress and negativity. The wind
is recurring and often is meant to express the feelings they can t explain with words. Ennis feels as if
his feelings for Jack are not accepted by society and therefore, by himself, either. When Ennis goes to
Jack s home to see his parents, the atmosphere in the house is extremely unwelcoming. The
surroundings represent the feelings of insecurity and being an outcast in the home that Ennis feels.
The cold, stark atmosphere of Jack s home illustrates the christian judgement that Ennis and Jack feel
from their families. Even in the beginning of the film, Ennis is leaning against the trailer and there is a
church steeple in the background, foreshadowing the judgement from society. Ennis feels extremely
cornered and insecure by Jack s father and their home. While Ang Lee and Annie Proulx take slightly
different angles to the story, they both find ways to portray the same

Essay On German Americans After Ww2
During the First World War, the American government encouraged suspicion of German Americans.
The government was at pains to discourage hostility towards Islamic Americans. The land of your
ancestors could have been an enemy of the United States. There are also many different Arab states,
and most are allies of the United States, while only a very few are sympathetic to terrorism. Ever since
the 9/11 terrorist attack, the United States started being more careful as to who to trust. The United
States started to wonder who is really loyal to them, Islamics is being judged and so are the Germans.

Half of the Arab Islamic population didn t know about the September 11th attack. Americans still,
blamed the Arab Islamic, while other Americans blamed every Arab Islamic and Germans. The
Americans did indeed go to war with the Germans, Germany in general, and it was very
heartbreaking. I think that the majority of the Germans didn t even want a war to go on against the
United States. Most Americans took the issues and complications, creating anger and hatred towards
the Germans, creating rumors about them who were actually innocent. Both Germans, Arabs and
Islams gone through discrimination after the tragedy. Many Americans who lost their loved ones grew
hatred towards the Germans, Arabs, or Islams. Even though they were innocent, no one seemed to
believe them. Businesses and shops that were owned by the Germans, Arabs, and Islams; were
destroyed or vandalized plenty of times. Everyone around them despised them in one way or the other,
no one ever tried to hear their side of the story. As long as anyone knew, it was either a whole country

a darker message behind it, talking about a certain country or religion. Those who created these

French And Indian War Effects
The French and Indian war, also known as the 7 years war, was not just a defeat for France and
disaster for the Native Americans, but it spewed later trouble for Britain, causing the war to be a
disaster for Britain as well. The first major impact the war was on France, for after the war they lost
major portions of their territory in North America. The Native Americans had been impacted due to
the fact that their lands were now under the control of the British Empire, an empire which usually had
conflicts with Native American tribes. Finally, the war later spewed trouble for Britain due to the fact
that with new territory west of the Appalachians, British colonists who were migrating westwards in

many tribes, destroying others, and creating conflicts between natives and British colonists. Thirdly,
The war, though in Britain s favor, had devastated it in the years to come by first causing large scale
rebellions in the newly acquired lands, and by later angering colonists who were restricted from

that the Albany Plan was created, thus inspiring movements such as the declaration of independence a

Boy Meets Girl
Boy Meets Girl: A Reflection Paper
This paper analyzes the film Boy Meets Girl. The story within the film revolves around a transgender
girl navigating her life space. The film will be critiqued on its portrayal of LGBTQ persons, relation to
course material, cultural factors, and discrimination/oppression of the main character. Finally, the
paper concludes with a personal reflection.
Portrayal of LGBTQ
The main character, Ricky, identifies as a transgender girl . The film does a good job emphasizing the
normality of Ricky s daily life experiences, while also including important distinguishing features. For
example, Ricky has conversations and outings with her best friend, Robby, but also experiences
uneasiness regarding her external appearances. The film portrays LGBTQ individuals in a humanistic
way such that the viewer empathizes with Ricky. Struggles are touched upon like the difficulty in
having to share transgender status in a safe space and have conversations about sexual history.
However, the film is weak in having a realistic portrayal of people reacting to Ricky being
transgender. Though the film does indicate that Ricky s mother left due to Ricky being transgender,
David having outward hatred towards her, and Ricky being denied acceptance to a school, the film
does not truly cover the depth of difficulties that transgender women face. ... Show more content on

paper was written in the framework of an MBA thesis at the Maastricht School of Management
(MSM) under the supervision of Prof Eno L. Inanga ABSTRACT The absorption capacity is one of
key indicators on which financing agencies base the allocation of financial resources to sponsored

This is mainly due to the fact that several programs compete for the agricultural income in developing
countries agricultural dependent economies. In addition, while the agricultural research is largely
financed by private funds in developed countries, the share of the private sector is too low in
developing countries. The system relies either on government funding and/or external assistance,
especially in Sub Saharan Africa. According to Pardey et al. (2006), donor contributions (including
World Bank loans) in Sub Saharan Africa accounted for an average of 35% of funding to principal
agricultural research agencies in 2000. Even though this share shows a decreasing trend, the share of
external funds in agricultural research varies from country to country, as several countries, such as
Eritrea, are highly dependent on external aid for agricultural research (figure 1), while others, such as
Sudan, use their own internal income to this end. Donor agricultural research financing in developing
countries is channelled either through the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research
(CGIAR), a consortium of 15 agricultural research centers , regional research networks, or directly to
national agricultural research systems. Sources of external financing

Lizzie Borden Case Study
Two Murder Victims. One trial. One Unsolved mystery. These are the components of Lizzie Borden s
murder case. The trial of Lizzie Borden is a complex one, but it is vital to discuss because Lizzie s
charge was dropped and got away Scott free and the murders have been unsolved for about a century.
Very many people today believe that Lizzie Borden did it because she said she did not like her step
mom and so went on with killing both of them. In my opinion, Lizzie is guilty because what is said in
her account and because of what she said in her inquest. One important reason for believing Lizzie did
it is because of what she says in her inquest. In her inquest, Mr. Moody asks her, How long do you

One could say that Lizzie isn t the type of person to carry out such gruesome murders. The weakness
of this, however, is that she had a perfect opportunity to kill them because her sister Emma was out of
the house. She was the only one there besides Bridget Sullivan, who was taking a nap during the
murder of Mr. Borden. Keep in mind that the defenses greatest advantage was that most people during
1893 could not imagine a woman with such a background do a merciless murder. I personally wouldn
t fall for this because anyone can snap without notice, and I would guess that s what happened to
Lizzie on the day of the murders.
Overall, I believe she did it because of everything I said so far. Everyone nowadays thinks she did it
most likely because she was the only one who could have possibly done it and was the only one in the
house. In my perspective, she killed Mrs. Borden first, then killed Mr. Borden when no one was
looking. I don t know how she couldve gotten rid of all the evidence, but if it was someone else they
would ve been drenched in blood and would have been caught running away. Only Lizzie could ve
planned the murders without leaving any evidence.

Conflicting Parties Case Study Analysis
Conflicting Parties Case Study Analysis
When working in tight quarters, there are countless ways of unintentionally impeding on a colleague s
work habits. Due to a shared office, Brian and Jon are no exception. While striving to complete work
tasks through the means each is comfortable with and accustom to, each individual s work style habits
imposes on the other s. Unfortunately due to space limitations, separating Brian and Jon to two
separate offices is not a possibility. However, through thoughtful conflict resolution, Brian and Jon can
negotiate the means to more forward working together, without continuing to distract the other with
their own work style.
Conflict Resolution In broad terms, conflict resolution refers to the process two or more individuals
utilize in order to reach an agreement to a dispute or debate (Miall, Ramsbotham Woodhouse, 1999).
While there are many specific components to conflict resolution, the application of each facet is
strongly tied to the specifics of each individual conflict. In the case of Brian and Jon s office space
conflict, the pair should examine the relevant concepts of fractionation, framing, reframing, and
common ground. Ultimately, if the two colleague s cannot reach an agreement(s) on how to move
forward working together, mediation can be utilized as a last resort.
Fractionation
As one of the many components of conflict resolution, fractionation is a concept which should be

The main success of the Bureau lies in the establishment of schools. It spent over five million dollars
for the creation of schools; by 1870, there were over 1000 schools in the south. It helped to found
some historically black colleges and universities such as Howard University. In addition to school, it
also helped with the funding of churches. Unfortunately, by 1971, it had lost most of its funding and
consequently, its staff members. It failed to carry out any long term protection for freed slaves and did
not produce any real measure of equality in the South. One opponent of the Bureau was President
Andrew Johnson. He returned confiscated property to white Confederates, pardoned hundreds of
former Confederate officers, soldiers and government officials, and tried to limit the amount of land
the Bureau could sell by taking the land the Union had confiscated and gave to the Bureau and giving
it to previous white landowners. When Congress first passed a bill in February, 1866, to extend the
Bureau s existence and to give it new legal powers to sell land, Johnson vetoed the proposed
legislation and argued that it interfered with states rights, gave preference to one group of people over
another and would be financially stressful on the government because of its extended funding.

The Attack on Fort Sumter took place on an island located in South Carolina on April 12, 1861.
Following President Abraham Lincoln s presidential election in November 1860, many threats were
brought to Federal troops guarding forts in the South during the secession crisis. The main purpose of
this battle was to guard Charleston Harbor. But the bombarding of the fort was the climax of a conflict
in which a small militia of Union troops in South Carolina found themselves isolated when the state
seceded from the Union. The Attack on Fort Sumter lasted less than two days and did not have much

Leading to the American Civil War, the Attack of Fort Sumter was an important event which was the
first battle to be fought. The situation taking place in Fort Sumter had become greatly tense as
conflicts rose. It began as South Carolina seceded from the Union and became nonexistent with the
forming of the Confederacy. The Southern Confederate leader, General P.T. Beauregard decided that
he would begin constructing his forces in the army around Fort Sumter located in Charleston Harbor.
The Union leader of the North, Major Anderson chose to move his men from Fort Moultrie towards a
much stronger fort. In doing so, he had asked the War Department for reinforcements and planned to
move his men to Fort Sumter near the harbor s entrance where the South were already there guarding
it with their forces. Unfortunately, as Anderson and his men approached Fort Sumter, they were

he frees himself from his parent s restriction and goes into manhood. As he enters the hotel he is again

he s talking to the old ladies from the wrong party shows the sweat on his face symbolizing how
nervous he is. Later, the waiter ignores him symbolizing that Ben can t seem to have authority of any

Generation Reserve Is An Important Factor In Generation
Generation reserve is an important factor in generation planning or operating process, as discussed in
the previous chapter, subsection 3.1. Traditionally, fixed percentage of the peak load is used as a
reserve for planning purpose and another one for operating purpose. On solar generation system, both
of generation and load are variable. This behavior is extremely confusing in appropriate reserve
estimation. Solar PV power changes during the day, season and month. Moreover, clouds affects badly
on PV generated power, as discussed in section 2. This part discusses new techniques of generation

camera blurs out will and focuses on the formula and also does the opposite. While writing the

passing by. Also, to support this feeling each time the formula is showed there is more added to it than
one can write in the brief moment that it took to come back to it with the camera. Additionally, the
benefit of having the scene of him writing on the mirror lets the viewer see him concentrating on the

Analysis Of Adrienne Rich By Caroline Herschel
Adrienne Rich was an extremely influential mid twentieth century female poet. She was living and
writing as a part of the second wave of feminism, which heavily influenced her works of poetry. Her
poem begins by acknowledging Caroline Herschel, who I had never heard of. I was curious about her
and decided to research her. Caroline Herschel was an eighteenth and nineteenth century German
astronomer, who significantly contributed to the field of astronomy. She was the first woman to ever
discover a comet and she went on to discover 7 more comets. Her life was truly spectacular, however,
her brother, William Herschel always outshone her. He was also an astronomer, and his contributions
were take much more seriously. Rich not only states that Caroline Herschel was the sister of Willam,
but also a sister of others, which I interpret to mean other unsung, unappreciated women. This
dedication is a recognition of the sisterhood and connectedness among all women, which the poet later
explains to be galaxies of women. As I was reading the poem, I interpreted much of the poem to be
response to sexism and as a way for Rich to express the laments of women living in a patriarchal
society. The poem appears to be a critique of society s attitude towards women, and how female
creativity and existence was hindered. The poet was able to present her own experiences with
femininity, and the challenges that she has faced because of her gender. However, she acknowledged
the many women who had

The Food Of Biscuits And Imports Of Various Biscuits...
There are a few large local manufacturers of different biscuits and imports of various biscuit brands in
Fiji. Punjas and Flour Mills of Fiji (FMF) Foods Limited are a few local manufactures of different
types of biscuits produced in Fiji for local and international consumption (FMF Foods Limited, 2016).
Biscuit products that are being sold in Fiji market are well differentiated through different packagings
and manufacturer brand names (Punjas, n.d.). Consumers in Fiji do not show loyalty towards any
particular products, this is because Fiji has low GDP and income per capita. Therefore consumers
buying is totally dependent on the price of the product (Schultz, 2009). In late 2004, Fiji Government
accepted a competition policy based on the principle of promoting contestability by eliminating entry
and exit barriers, market agents must be free to enter and exit the market (Dakunimata, n.d.). This
approach gives a sound basis for promoting better competition and thus entrepreneurship in Fiji (

2008) NASA had made a bad decision. The accident investigation report infers that the engineers
doubts and concerns not being effectively communicated to NASA s management. The wrong
reporting tool was used to convey technical data. Open discussion of concerns was not encouraged
and this resulted in failure to properly investigate issues. Senior executives did not encourage input
from the lower ranking engineers. The engineers saw potential danger from a foam strike to the
Columbia. The minutes and audiotapes of NASA s Mission Management Team reveal little discussion
other than from executives. Concerns regarding the foam impacts affect on the integrity of the orbiter
were quickly refocused to a discussion of how much additional maintenance might now be needed to
prepare Columbia for its next flight. Transcribed and audio evidence showed that many NASA
meetings were inconsistent and ineffective. NASA management meetings were condensed, sometimes
shaving multiple slide engineering analyses down to a single slide. The potential impact of a foam
strike on the orbiter is an example. Sometimes the slides presented would have factual errors or errors
in assumptions that an expanded briefing or technical data may have eliminated. The history of foam
strikes and external tank modifications is an example. Many key NASA

Free Speech Essay
Free Speech
Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.
These words were spoken by Benjamin Franklin, one of our nation s founding fathers, when the
United States was still a newly independent country. Free speech, which is defined as the right to
express any opinion in public without censorship or restraint by the government, is a subject that is
still present in the minds of many people today. At one extreme of the spectrum is a group of folks that
do not care the slightest bit about free speech issues and at another end is a group of people who will
vehemently fight to protect their right to free speech. In a middle ground, like most peoples stance, lay

All aspects of internet filters will be discussed including who chooses to use filtering software, why
these groups use filters, how an internet content filter works, and the pro s and con s of implementing
the use of filtering software.
There are many different groups that choose to implement internet filtering software on computers that
they own. Among these groups are libraries, schools, employers, and parents. In December of 2000,
the United States Congress passed the Children s Internet Protection Act (CHIPA), which is legislation
that forced public and private libraries as well as schools that are federally funded through certain
federal programs to install internet content blocking software for both child and adult users alike. If
libraries and schools that chose to implement the internet blocking technology on their computers
were compensated or benefited monetarily through additional government subsidy would have been
fine, but when the government is federally mandating censorship it is a direct violation of individuals
rights to free speech and expression guaranteed by the first amendment of the Bill of Rights to the
Constitution of the United States of America. In an educational organizations letter to legislation, a
strong opposition was expressed regarding the mandated censorware in schools and libraries across
the nation. Several points were made in opposition to the internet content filters. The organization
states that the new mandatory

New Ideas Of The Enlightenment
During the early 18th century new ideas began to arise across Europe. For instance the idea of the
Enlightenment, which lead to new intellectual ideas, logical/factual mindsets that weren t seen as
much before and religious tolerance. Before this , close to everything was biblical based. However to
an extent the new ideas of the Enlightenment and religious tolerance displayed the religious influence
and corruption of Europe during the 18th century. Hark ye friend said the Orator, Do you think the
Pope is the antichrist? Truly i ve heard nothing about it said Candide; but whether he is or not i want
something to eat. Thous desvest nothing to eat (Voltaire, 18) This quote well demonstrates the
outrageous and uncalled for reactions of religious differences during this time. The man is at first
Candide s friend and after knowing their different opinions he kicks Candide out of his house without

Even though it seemed as if the government and the people were more becoming more open minded
they still censored out anything they didn t like or improve of. In the novel Candide says They came to
secure Pangloss ... the one for speaking his mind. (Voltaire 28) For Pangloss was a philosopher of the
enlightenment period who spoke his mind openly and because it seemed to threaten the ideas of the
bible he was hanged. The problematic situation was also brought up during a conversation between
Candide and the guy from El Dorado when Candide asks You have no monks among you to dispute,to
govern,to intrigue, and to burn people who are not the same opinion as themselves? (Voltaire 71)
Candide sarcastically asks if they do not have rulers or anyone who punishes some for having a
unpopular opinion. This is the way Europe is at the time and Candide is astonished on how they allow
minority opinion unlike Europe where you will be burned at stake for voicing

San Clemente Island Essay
The study was carried out in San Clemente Island (SCI; 118° 30 W, 33° 00 N), the southernmost of the
California Channel Islands, located approximately 109 km west of San Diego, California (Fig. XX).
The SCI is under the administration and management of U.S. Navy and is not open to civilians, except
by the permission of the naval authorities. The island covers 14,764 ha (147.64 km2) area extending
34 km north south and ranges in width from 2.5 6.5 km. The diverse topography of the island (a
steeply sloping eastern side and gently sloping marine terraces of western side), is the result of
tectonic and climatic dynamics (Raab and Yatsko 2009), which produce a greater spatial variability in
temperature, wind, rainfall, and fog (Moody 2000). The island experiences an arid Mediterranean type
climate characterised by cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers. It receives an average of 130 mm of
rainfall annually (U.S. Dept. of the Navy 2002) with most precipitation (95%) between November and
April, the wet season (Yoho et al. 1999). Temperatures are relatively moderate throughout the year
with average mean summer and winter temperatures of 18°C and 14°C, respectively. Soil are
predominantly clayey and fine loamy with Vertisols morphology (Muhs et al. 2007). The Island
vegetation was comprised primarily of maritime desert scrub dominated by spiny and succulent plants
(Cylindropuntia prolifera, Lycium californicum, and Opuntia littoralis) and grassland dominated by

Communication with Various Groups Paper Communicating with Various Groups Paper Angelica De La Cruz Eileen Carlin CJS/205 Composition for Communication in the Criminal Justice System October 12, 2015 The definition of communication varies when it comes to the situation. Communication can be derived from a conversation amongst one another or communication can lead to an interview (for a job, a case, or to obtain information). Human communication is the way in which humans exchange meaningful ideas with one another (Justak, 2014). I sat and asked her what her favorite childhood memory was? However, this is one story that I have heard from her countless times. Her favorite childhood memory was going to school and being asked to sing in front of the classroom. Gathering stories from two different individuals with a big age gap consisted of several issues. My daughter would pause during her story to try to remember what exactly happened. Few places in the world contain such amazing biodiversity, and such a wide variety of species in such a condensed area. While many scientists have been interested in studying the various plants and animals that inhabit Yellowstone, a group of microorganisms that has been of special interest in the past few years are Yellowstone s extremophiles the microorganisms that inhabit Yellowstone s thermal springs. Extremophiles have opened the eyes of science to the possibilities of life in extreme conditions, helping us to understand how they adapt to such seemingly inhospitable environments. They have also helped us to make several important advances in the fields of medicine and biotechnology. Before the discovery of extremophiles in Yellowstone, it was widely believed that life simply could not survive at extremely high temperatures, as extremely high temperatures quickly denature proteins in cells. Although most organisms are unable to survive in such extreme climates, the microorganisms that inhabit Yellowstone s thermal vents are able to thrive in them. Imperialism In South Africa The failure of the Union of South Africa in achieving equality for all inhabitants was a result of the prevailing factor of racial discrimination against native Africans. The pre existing desire to establish a white supremacy characterised southern African colonisation which caused conflict between the British and Boers (German and French settlers). The discovery of gold and diamonds in the Veld instigated industrialisation and exploitation of African labour and with increased imperialistic expansion, British and Boer forces declared war resulting in desecration of African land and communities. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The existing tension between the Boer and British colonies was heightened due to the Boer s increased concern about the domination of foreign miners (Uitlanders) in the Southern Transvaal and the annexation of the region by the British in 1887. The president of the Boer colonies, Paul Kruger overthrew the annexation and wished to maintain Boer control in the Transvaal by imposing restrictive voting rights to the Uitlanders. The British considered this action as morally corrupt and chose to take military action against the Boers therefore declaring war on October 9, 1899. The war ended in 1902 with the Boers relinquishing their independency by allowing Britain to annex the Boer colonies. The defeat of the Boers was due to the implementation of the scorched earth policy by the British which annihilated the opposition s farmland and livestock and exhausted their food supplies. The tactic disregarded the land rights of indigenous people and further separated their connection with the land and consequent identity. 26,000 Boer women and children were placed in internment camps with 15,000 indigenous people being placed in concentration camps where 10% of them died from disease and malnutrition. The 110,000 Africans assisting the Boer and British forces in the war suffered from extreme hardships and discriminatory acts including the disproportionate rationing of food supplies and inconsideration of land rights. • 6. Demand for Medical Care Demand for Medical Care The demand for medical care is derived from our demand for good health. Michael Grossman was the first to do econometric research on this topic. Grossman s work established two approaches for consideration. In the first, medical care is viewed as an input in the production function for health, and in the second, as an output produced by medical care providers (Henderson, p.142). There are two main factors that determine the demand for medical care. The first is the patient factor. This includes a patient s health status, demographic characteristics and economic status. The second is the physician factor. This is an interesting topic because it introduces the principal (patient) agent (physician) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The demand for medical care has a consumption component and an investment component. The consumption component is the part that you expect to use lets say on a yearly basis. You probably go to the doctor s office about once a year for a checkup. The investment component is the part that you hope doesn t happen but just in case you will be able to finance for the occasion. Individuals who are willing to invest in a college education are the same individuals who are willing to spend time and money on improving their health (Henderson p.150). One of the most efficient ways to produce health is to educate oneself. The more knowledge you know about your own health the less you will have to go to the physician s office. Education has been proven statistically to lower demand for healthcare. The ‘Elasticity for education is approximately equal to one tenth (Weiss Lecture 9/9/99). This means for every ten percent increase in medical care there is a one percent increase in health. A proper diet and daily exercise are also important to improving ones health. Both of these factors have produced positive elasticity measures as well. The are two factors that affect the demand for medical care. The first is the patient factor. • 7. The Australian Judicial System Within the context of the Australian judicial system, all legal proceedings are subject to certain rules regarding the admissibility of evidence. In the mid 1990 s, the existing rules of evidence were replaced by the Uniform Evidence Act s, as a means whereby consistency of decision making could be better observed. These new rules lay out standards which must be strictly adhered to, to ensure that the rights of both parties to a case are respected, allowing for a fair trial to take place. The specific act which will be used is dependent on the jurisdiction of the court itself; all High Court, Federal Court, Family Court, Federal Magistrates Court, and ACT courts are subject to The Evidence Act (Cth). The Tasmanian, New South Wales and Victorian Evidence Acts are marginally different from that of the Commonwealth, however generally speaking they are the same with a few minor differences . Under the Uniform Evidence Act s, regardless of whether or not a certain piece of evidence meets the relevant admissibility requirements, a judge in certain circumstances can use their discretion to exclude pieces of evidence that are unfairly prejudicial on the part of the accused, which could have a negative effect on juries assessment of a fact in issue. The discretionary powers under the Act are based on principles established at common law, which are commonly referred to as the Christie Discretion . The many lessons I learned from my grandmother and the minister at our church played a big part in how I began to see the world and my place in it. Spring is shown as a happy season full of blooming plants, which directly correlates with his budding love for Delia. In Fall, Nathan falls in love with Eunice. Fall is still considered to be a nice season, however it is often raining, and doesn t have as joyful of a mood as spring. This symbolism of these two seasons shows that Nathan always liked Delia more, and had a higher regard for his love for her than his love with Eunice. Finally, in the winter, Nathan faces the tragedy of Eunice s death. Winter is a season when plants and trees die, which is not coincidentally the season that his fiancée passes away as well. However, the further on the journey of adulthood, the more variability there is among others who are also our own age. In fact, change is not evaluated based off of chronological age alone. It does, of course, play a role. But it isn t everything. Biological age, which is a measure of how an adult s physical condition compares with others within their age range, is used in the evaluation of physical systems. Biological age can also be altered through lifestyle changes. On the other hand, psychological age refers to the measure of how well an adult is able to deal effectively with the environment in comparison to others. An example of this would be a 30 year old woman who constantly arrives to work late because she sleeps in. Although her biological age is 30, her psychological age is much lower than that. Social age is a measure of the expected roles a person takes on at a specific point in their life. Finally, the paper concludes with a personal reflection. Portrayal of LGBTQ The main character, Ricky, identifies as a transgender girl . The film does a good job emphasizing the normality of Ricky s daily life experiences, while also including important distinguishing features. For example, Ricky has conversations and outings with her best friend, Robby, but also experiences uneasiness regarding her external appearances. The film portrays LGBTQ individuals in a humanistic way such that the viewer empathizes with Ricky. Struggles are touched upon like the difficulty in having to share transgender status in a safe space and have conversations about sexual history. However, the film is weak in having a realistic portrayal of people reacting to Ricky being transgender. Inanga ABSTRACT The absorption capacity is one of key indicators on which financing agencies base the allocation of financial resources to sponsored projects, and should hence be closely monitored. This is mainly due to the fact that several programs compete for the agricultural income in developing countries agricultural dependent economies. In addition, while the agricultural research is largely financed by private funds in developed countries, the share of the private sector is too low in developing countries. The system relies either on government funding and/or external assistance, especially in Sub Saharan Africa. According to Pardey et al. (2006), donor contributions (including World Bank loans) in Sub Saharan Africa accounted for an average of 35% of funding to principal agricultural research agencies in 2000. Even though this share shows a decreasing trend, the share of external funds in agricultural research varies from country to country, as several countries, such as Eritrea, are highly dependent on external aid for agricultural research (figure 1), while others, such as Sudan, use their own internal income to this end. Donor agricultural research financing in developing countries is channelled either through the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), a consortium of 15 agricultural research centers , regional research networks, or directly to national agricultural research systems. Very many people today believe that Lizzie Borden did it because she said she did not like her step mom and so went on with killing both of them. In my opinion, Lizzie is guilty because what is said in her account and because of what she said in her inquest. She was the only one there besides Bridget Sullivan, who was taking a nap during the murder of Mr. Borden. Keep in mind that the defenses greatest advantage was that most people during 1893 could not imagine a woman with such a background do a merciless murder. In my perspective, she killed Mrs. Borden first, then killed Mr. Borden when no one was looking. I don t know how she couldve gotten rid of all the evidence, but if it was someone else they would ve been drenched in blood and would have been caught running away. This dedication is a recognition of the sisterhood and connectedness among all women, which the poet later explains to be galaxies of women. As I was reading the poem, I interpreted much of the poem to be response to sexism and as a way for Rich to express the laments of women living in a patriarchal society. • 43. New Ideas Of The Enlightenment During the early 18th century new ideas began to arise across Europe. For instance the idea of the Enlightenment, which lead to new intellectual ideas, logical/factual mindsets that weren t seen as much before and religious tolerance. Before this , close to everything was biblical based. However to an extent the new ideas of the Enlightenment and religious tolerance displayed the religious influence and corruption of Europe during the 18th century. Hark ye friend said the Orator, Do you think the Pope is the antichrist? Truly i ve heard nothing about it said Candide; but whether he is or not i want something to eat. (Voltaire 28) For Pangloss was a philosopher of the enlightenment period who spoke his mind openly and because it seemed to threaten the ideas of the bible he was hanged. The problematic situation was also brought up during a conversation between Candide and the guy from El Dorado when Candide asks You have no monks among you to dispute,to govern,to intrigue, and to burn people who are not the same opinion as themselves? (Voltaire 71) Candide sarcastically asks if they do not have rulers or anyone who punishes some for having a unpopular opinion. • 44. San Clemente Island Essay The study was carried out in San Clemente Island (SCI; 118° 30 W, 33° 00 N), the southernmost of the California Channel Islands, located approximately 109 km west of San Diego, California (Fig. XX). The SCI is under the administration and management of U.S. Navy and is not open to civilians, except by the permission of the naval authorities. The island covers 14,764 ha (147.64 km2) area extending 34 km north south and ranges in width from 2.5 6.5 km. The diverse topography of the island (a steeply sloping eastern side and gently sloping marine terraces of western side), is the result of tectonic and climatic dynamics (Raab and Yatsko 2009), which produce a greater spatial variability in temperature, wind, rainfall, and fog (Moody 2000). The island experiences an arid Mediterranean type climate characterised by cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers. It receives an average of 130 mm of rainfall annually (U.S. Dept. of the Navy 2002) with most precipitation (95%) between November and April, the wet season (Yoho et al. 1999). Temperatures are relatively moderate throughout the year with average mean summer and winter temperatures of 18°C and 14°C, respectively. Soil are predominantly clayey and fine loamy with Vertisols morphology (Muhs et al. 2007). The Island vegetation was comprised primarily of maritime desert scrub dominated by spiny and succulent plants (Cylindropuntia prolifera, Lycium californicum, and Opuntia littoralis) and grassland dominated by introduced Avena ...
