Essay on Judges Need to Follow Previous Precedent
Judges Need to Follow Previous Precedent
The lower courts are bound by the House of Lords so they have to apply their rules as if they were
applying a statute. It was decided after the case London street tramways v London county council
(1898) that the House of Lords would be bound by its own previous decisions. This was a case during
the nineteenth century, during the Victorian times when it was important to be consistent and certain.
However during the twentieth century both society and the law developed and some decisions made in
previous cases were now unsuitable, so the House of Lords made a Practice Statement in 1966. As a

Pepper v Hart (1993) overruled Beswick v Beswick (1968) on the use of Hansard as an extrinsic aid to
statutory interpretation.
The Court of Appeal is usually bound by its own previous decisions and always bound by those of the
House of Lords. However there are some exceptions to this rule shown in Young v Bristol Aeroplane
Co (1944) . Where there were conflicting decisions in past cases then the court of appeal can choose
which one to follow or reject. If a House of Lords decision overrules a court of appeal decision then
they must follow the House of Lords decision. Where a Court of appeal decision was made per
incurium then the decision made in error can be overruled. There is a further exception now that if a
case conflicts with the decision of the European court of justice, the court of appeal will have to
follow the decision of the European court of justice instead of its own. Lord Denning has voiced his
argument in favour of giving more power to the Court of Appeal and in Davis v Johnson (1978) he
wished to provide justice as quickly as possible for a spouse in a matrimonial dispute. He wanted the
Court if appeal to be able to overrule a previous decision if convinced that the decision was wrong but
the House of Lords unequivocally and unanimously reaffirmed the rules of

Positive Role Model
Title
Imagine living in a world without role models. Creation would be an immense chaotic mess with the
population acting like heathens. Similar to a flower that does not receive enough nourishments
gradually perishing, without positive role models feeding our youth, creation would inhabit
senselessness and eventually terminate. Today, in the society we live in, people are more concerned on
the public status, or simply the exterior appearance, of a person rather than the example they are
setting. Leading to the question, what is a positive role model? Well, this can be very complex in
explaining, everyone s ideal role model can vary from one and another. One of the most generic
definitions according to Collins English Dictionary, of role a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A value is something someone believes to be important or admirable. Values can include, although are
not limited to, relationships, religion, health, and etc. An important value of a wonderful role model is
honesty. This does not entail insulting, and pointing out others misfortunes in interest of the truth.
Instead, an honest person is accurate, shows fairness, and has consideration for others feelings. One
value that would be worthy to follow, is someone to does not participate in drug misuse, underage
drinking, or any other illegal activities. This represents integrity, at the same time as exhibiting to
others that they can have increased fun without breaking the law. One of the utmost commendable
values of a good role model is one who values religion. Gods translucent light presents itself through
this person s speech, in addition to his actions. This displays obedience, willingness to listen to
authority, love, and commitment. Worthy values of a great role model further extend to a variety of
other things depending on one s moral values. In order to demonstrate one s values, he must display

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
In today s society, it is possible for a woman to achieve nearly anything; however, for a woman of
yesterday s society, bringing world wide recognition to the many faces of prejudice is an
accomplishment of its own. Author Harper Lee has had the honor to accomplish just that through her
novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, a moving and inspirational story about a young girl learning the
difference between the good and the bad of the world. In the small town of Monroeville, Alabama,
Nelle Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926. Growing up, Harper Lee had three siblings: two sisters
and an older brother. She and her siblings grew up modestly. Even though money was not as much of
a problem for her family as it was for others of their time, her father never did spoil her and her
siblings. Lee and her brother attended a public grammar school in Monroe County, and Harper Lee
continued to further her education after her high school graduation. She attended Huntingdon College
for a year and then transferred to the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa where she studied law from
1945 to 1949. While she was at the University of Alabama, she was also an exchange student at
Oxford University in England for a year.
Harper Lee always had a passion for writing. She wrote articles and satires for her college newspaper.
Months before completing her law degree, Lee moved to New York to pursue a writing career. Her
first job was as an airlines reservations clerk. Although she never stopped writing

The Organizing Committee Of Ipam Iv Workshop
Dear Members of the Organizing Committee of IPAM IV Workshop,
I am a 5th year PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering at the University at Buffalo. I received my
undergraduate degree in May 2011 in Materials Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Kanpur. I have been an enthusiastic researcher throughout my undergraduate studies and was awarded
the Proficiency Medal for my accomplishments. I have presented my undergraduate research at
several conferences and have won best poster awards. Following my undergraduate education, I
worked for a year as a Research Assistant at the Nanoscience Laboratory at IIT Kanpur, which is led
by Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, the Secretary of the Indian Department of Science and Technology. In the
fall of 2012, I started graduate school at the University at Buffalo, where I have maintained an
excellent academic record and won several awards, including the School of Engineering and Applied
Sciences Dean s Fellowship and the APS Distinguished Student Seminar Program Award.
My interests lie in the design of new molecular materials with exceptional properties by means of first
principles quantum chemistry and data modeling. I work in the group of Prof. Johannes Hachmann
and my current project concerns the modeling of organic polymers for optical applications. My goal is
to develop in a joint venture with the experimentalist group of Prof. Chong Cheng innovative new
materials that will outperform the ones used in current devices. As part

The Hindus came to the United States for the excellent jobs here. They immigrated to Utah in the

My Personal Statement Of One Phone Call
Who would have thought that one phone call could change my whole life? I recall I was in the kitchen
grabbing a snack from the fridge when my phone rang. I remember that before even hanging up with
Ms. Rola, I found all my family around me hugging and congratulating me. I couldn t believe it at
first. After years of hard work, I made it to AUB with a full scholarship to a major that I always had a
passion in. Something to be proud of, right? I was thrilled, but scared at the same time. I knew that
AUB will be a big challenge, a different environment with different people and a different lifestyle.
Nevertheless, I was up for it. I always wanted to become an AUB student yet it was a burden to afford
such prestigious education, knowing that my father is the only breadwinner of the family. He used to
always tell me: Do not worry about the money, everything will work out eventually , but I knew that
he was just comforting me. By the time I got the call, I was already planning my next year at a public
university. I still remember my father s face the moment he knew about the scholarship as he hugged
me and whispered to me that he is very proud of my achievements.
The first few days at AUB were weird. People here were different! I was lost and I didn t know
anybody here. The whole campus gave me a hard time but I was determined to make it through.
During my sophomore year, I had the chance to be involved in multiple community service activities.

Relationship Between Nursing Profession With Scholarship,...
The purpose of this paper is to integrate the relationship between nursing profession with scholarship,
praxis, and evidence based practice to improve quality of care for individuals and their respective
societies. The Oxford English dictionary defined scholarship as the attainments of a scholar, learning,
and erudition in a person (Scholarship, 2016). Scholarship is a noun of academic study or
achievement, learning at a higher level. Scholarship in nursing has become an essential part of our
professional evolution. Professional nursing practice at all levels is grounded in ethical practice.
Essentially, nurses need the constant searching and analysis attitude toward their practice and the care
environment. The conceptualization of scholarship in nursing has been seen most times from the point
of teaching and research. The master s prepared nurses examine policies and seek evidence for every
aspect of practice, thereby disseminating current evidence and identifying gaps where evidence is
lacking. Students being prepared for direct care roles will have graduate level content that builds upon
an undergraduate foundation in health assessment, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. Having a
master prepared graduates with a strong background in these three areas is seen as imperative from the
practice perspective (American Association of College of Nursing [AACN], 2011, p. 9). The
scholarship consists of continuing education on advanced degree programs. This advancement

The First Phase Of Strategy Work
Information collection
The first phase of strategy work is to gain the information of case company. Our case company is a
nonprofit organization MacMillan Cancer Support. The first thing we did is to get to understand how
charity works. After the first group meeting, we decided to find the information about the company
and the industry individually and then made a pool of collected information. As a student from China,
I knew little about charity because in my country charity is not a big industry and people seldom pay
attention to this field. Charity was a totally new thing to me and I started to learn it from scratch. At
the beginning, I felt a little perplexed and I did not know where to start my research work. I searched
in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We felt we needed to make some change to move forward then we turned to the framework we learned
the lectures.
Information analysis
Our first step was to identify the goal of MacMillan. Unlike profit driven company, charity s goal is
not to chase profit but to make the world better. Their intentions are always altruistic. According to
their homepage and their annual report we found their nine outcomes as their goals. They are devoted
to cancer support to make sure that everyone affected by cancer will not face the disease alone.
After specifying their goal, we moved to the environmental analysis. Since it was in the first few
weeks, we chose the PEST and five forces framework to use. When we started to analyze, a main
problem came to us. Since MacMillan is a nonprofit organization, the definition of its competitors
confused us. Should it be all the charities worldwide or only the local cancer charities? Through
looking up the textbooks and identifying the industry, we thought that in this industry they mainly
competed for the funding, so we defined their competitors as all the cancer charities which searched
for funding against MacMillan. Since the definition of their competitors has been clarified, we started
to look the industry. We thought the hospitals and hospices could be the substitutes of charity and the
new cancer charity would be the potential entrants. In the five

Kingdom Of Ghana Essay
Toho went back to what back then was, the Kingdom of Ghana. The Kingdom of Ghana lasted from
750 C.E. to 1076 C.E. Throughout this time Toho saw many different changes.
As time began passing, Toho began to see how much the Kingdom of Ghana was changing. The
location of the Ancient kingdom of Ghana was dated back to the fourth century but was never

However, we now call it Ghana because the Arabs. The capital of Ancient Ghana was Koumbi Saleh.
Toho began his adventures towards the west of Africa. The Kingdom of Ghana was located in present
day Mauritania, Senegal, and Mali. The Kingdom of Ghana was close to many rivers such as the
Gambia River, Niger River, and the Senegal River. Due to the location of this kingdom, trade was very
common. Ghana was known for the abundance of gold. Because of the abundance of gold, they traded
with others. The Kingdom of Ghana was also known for exporting ivory and salt. He also saw that

Inez Beverly Posser (1895 1934) was America s first Black female psychologist.

Why did Inez s research and conclusion cause such controversy? There are many 3 different views
that can be drawn on the research and conclusions. First, since Inez was African
American herself, this may have conflicted within her African American community. Why?
Since African Americans have been struggling for equal rights and equality in education, this would
seem to go against what her own race has been struggling to achieve. On the surface it would appear
that way. However, her research was from a psychological perspective that had not yet been
considered or researched. Ironically, her conclusions in her study in her dissertation could also be
useful as the topic of desegregation that did not come along until decades after her study. The question
that was answered even before its time, is how desegregation would effect the students themselves.
Would this have a positive or negative effect on their education? If equality was to be reached in the
public school system wouldn t this have to also mean that the
African American students would also fare better than in integrated schools? What s the use in
achieving desegregation if it is going to have such a negative impact on the African American
students? If you will notice, the word integrated is used in place of desegregation in her study since
desegregation had not yet even been addressed! As you can imagine, many different views, arguments,
and psychological

The Between Female And Female Adolescents
A. When traveling to the village, I watched the younger villagers participate in recess. I initially
realized the strong distinction between the two gender s interactions. Through the three days in the
village, I came to realize that the female adolescents were not permitted to participate in contact
sports. In comparison, the male adolescents were consistently shown participating in soccer, the
national sport of Haiti. I would constantly watch the interactions between the two genders of the
adolescents and noticed that they were blatantly distant. The females were shown gossiping on the
playgrounds and playing tag, ignoring the total fact of the males playing soccer very aggressively. On
the last two days in the village, Aina and I attempted to join their game of soccer, but they were
hesitant until we supplied an adequate soccer ball for them. Even when they allowed us to join the
game with them, they still were very hesitant to interact with us in relation to passing us the ball. In
addition, we also gave the girls a ball to play with, but they just put it to the side and neglected to use
it. It was an overall interesting experience, because even when we moved from playing with the older
adolescents to the younger group, the same distinction was present and the only children playing with
us were male.
B. When traveling to the village, there were noticeable differences of the native s culture to the typical
American culture. In accordance to my beliefs, the biggest

For some, the real estate market is a completely new country with its own language and culture.
People are not quite sure what a Real Estate Open House is. Certainly, if you have been invited to a
holiday Open House, you remember a gigantic cocktail party at a neighbor s house or a homey buffet
where friends and family are all trying to talk and hold plastic plates piled with a concoction of
edibles, at the same time. Well, Real Estate Open Houses are quite different. They are held for the
purpose of showing a house for sale to potential buyers. Sometimes there is food on hand but the
purpose of this outing is not social conviviality, but business. Here are some types. Category 1. The
Open House for Realtors Let s say, you have selected a particular real estate agent and you want her to
handle the sale of your house. If the agency belongs to a multiple listing organization (and most of
them do) they will thereupon hold an open house for the other agents in the area. These may include
agents from their own broker s office and agents from other offices. Your agent will ask you to get
your house in ship shape. That means she wants you to have everything cleaned (windows, carpets,
etc.) and have all the clutter put out of the way. She will probably ask you to leave the house, and to
take your dog, cat, and children with you. She may choose to provide some finger food and coffee for
the prospective agents (and ask you to foot part of the bill) or not, according to the

In America, we often idolize our sports stars. However, we do not always idolize them for the right

they just good athletes or do they have characteristics that make them truly heroic? Pat Tillman was
not just an NFL star, but a true hero. He lived a life of bravery, honor and sacrifice that still influences
people to this day. Pat Tillman set an almost unreachable standard of character that everyone, not just

Constitutional Law And The Criminal Justice System Essay
When it comes to the United States, (U.S), the majority of the American people love their seconded
amendment rights. As stated in the textbook, Constitutional Law and the Criminal Justice System by J.
Scott Harr, Karen M. Hess, Christine Orthmann, the second amendment of the United States
Constitution, for the most part, protects the U.S. citizens rights to keep and bear arms (Harr, Hess,
Orthmann, Kingsbury, 2015, p. 167). That being said, each state in the U.S. will vary in their firearms
laws. For instance, some states make it easier for their residence to purchase or use a firearm; other
states may have stricter laws that require a more scrutinized screening process. To be more specific,
most states vary in elements, such as the exceptions to the National Instant Criminal Background
Check System, or NICS, the waiting period on purchasing firearms; if someone needs a license to own
or purchase a gun; if registration is required; and if a record of the firearm sales is sent to the local
police. Other factors that will differ from state to state would include, if some firearms are permitted
or not allowed to be sold or owned by a state, the concealed carry laws, hunter protection laws; range
protection laws, and finally, not all states have firearm injury lawsuit preemption.
At the present time, the NICS principle objective is to insure that firearms do not fall under the control
of individuals who wittingly abuse the privilege or mistreat others (Bureau of Alcohol,

The Pros And Cons Of Malware
What Is Malware? You sure have heard before terms such as virus, worm, Trojan or rootkit when
people discuss internet security. These names describe types of programs used by internet criminals or
hackers to hack and take over computers and mobile devices. All of these different terms can be
simply called malware. We can simply say that malware is a software, a computer program used by
hackers to perform malicious actions. In fact, the word malware is a combination of two words
malicious and software. The end goal of most hackers is to install a malware on your device. And once
it s installed, these hackers can potentially take control of that device. Many people have this wrong
idea of malware is being a problem only for Windows computers. And the reality is, Windows is
widely used, which makes it a big target, malware can attack any computing device, including
smartphones and tablets. In fact, the percentage of malicious software action against mobile devices is
steadily growing. (Zeltser, L. 2014) Malware in these days is no longer created by just curious
hobbyists or amateur hackers, but by experienced internet criminals to help them achieve certain
goals. These goals can include stealing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Cannibalism
Cannibalism is the consumption of human flesh by other human beings. The concept of people eating
other people is highly debatable, but it has been proven to occur throughout history. The word
cannibalism comes from the Carib Indians of the West Indies, which were called Caribales quot; or
Canibales (Spier 543). The Spanish word canibales translates to thirsty and cruel in English. Another
known term for cannibalism is the Latin form anthropophagy (Bell). Anthropophagy derives from the
Greek words anthropos meaning man and phagein meaning eat. The term anthropophagy was used in
ancient times, which suggests that people from ancient times consumed other human beings (Spier
543).
The first documented encounter of cannibalism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After half of the travelers had died, the remaining people started to eat the flesh of the deceased in
attempts of survival. Forty six survivors were eventually rescued, but they received excessive
judgement for their actions. They were tried for their crimes of cannibalism, and they all served six
months in prison before they could return to their communities (Bell).
Another case of survival cannibalism took place in 1972 when a group of South American rugby
players were stranded in the Andes Mountains. Forty five people left on an airplane for their
destination of Chile, and only sixteen would make it alive. Their plane crashed into the Andes
Mountains, killing thirteen people from the crash itself. The crash also injured many others who would
eventually die over the weeks from their injuries. The mountains offered no supplies or food for
support. With no food, many of the crash survivors resorted to eating the deceased. Those survivors
who refused to eat their fellow people died of starvation. This group of people spent seventy days in
the mountains before the sixteen survivors were rescued and brought home (Bell). The story of these
South American athletes would be the plot for the movie Alive (1993) which was based on a true story
(Goldman).
Another form of cannibalism that has taken place is spiritual and ritual cannibalism. There are many
forms of it worldwide. The first is exocannibalism which is when a group or

Essay on Abuse in Government Care
Abuse in Government Care
It is unfortunate that in our society some children grow up without the opportunity of having a loving
family to raise them. More unimaginable is children growing up with parents or family members that
are abusive. Children raised in abusive environments that are reported to social services and removed
from their home are placed into foster care. Foster care is defined supervised care for delinquent or
neglected children usually in an institution or substitute home set up by the government. Some
advocates claim that the government child care system is adequate, but others like David Van Biema

home to another, suffering abuse and neglect that cause the children to develop harsh psychological
damage, severe behavioral problems, and suicidal thoughts, as shown in the story of on foster boy
named Terry:
Terry s story is in many respects typical of the plight of America s 500,000 foster children. He entered
foster care at the age of one after he was found with his five siblings suffering from frostbite in an
unheated home, his mother in a drug induced sleep. When he was five, he and two of his siblings were
adopted by a foster family. To hear adoption proponents of today tell it, this should have provided the
happy ending to Terry and his sibling s travails. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of a long
journey through the labyrinth of the child welfare system. Terry and his siblings had to be removed
from their new home due to extreme abuse and neglect after the subsequent

Communication And Communication
Conversation is such an important element when forming relationships with others and is needed
when bringing communities together. In order to establish communities, you need people who are able
to create bonds with one another through similar interests, common goals, and anything that can stir
up simple conversations. It sounds easy to talk to people, but most of the time, conversation is a lot
more complex than it sounds. In order to have conversation, we need to put aside our internal conflicts
that we all are guilty of having; such as stereotyping, putting our emotions first, and not listening to
other peoples opinions. Environment, people, topic, and many other characteristics are crucial in order
to have a good conversation. Communities have been bonded throughout the years by conversation,
but how we communicate has changed and continues to change as time progresses. Communication
can be done in multiple ways. You can have a face to face dialogue with people, call someone, text,
facetime, email; the ways these days are endless. These types of connections were not around when
the adults of this generation were younger, but the teenagers now are part of an era where technology
is major and available when wanting to speak to people. Some people will say those who overuse cell
phones are fleeing from conversation and can change who we are (Turkle). While you can perhaps
have an opinion on today s society being overly technical, you cannot conclude that

How Does Dickens Present The Portrayal Of Victorian Women
In a male dominated world, does the role of women even matter? In the Victorian era, women were
expected to be innocent, loving, and interested in their husbands business or other affiliations. In
Charles Dickens Hard Times, he portrays the Victorian society s realistic and unrealistic views of an
ideal Victorian woman in a maledominated world. Through the portrayal of his female characters,
Dickens shows the lack of morality people had during this time period, as well as emphasizing how an
ideal Victorian woman should act. Dickens example of an idealistic Victorian woman is Sissy Jupe,
while her contrast is Mrs. Sparsit. Louisa s character however, shows the change from a nonidealistic
to an idealistic Victorian woman. The several female characters compare and contrast with each other
throughout the novel and provide evidence of which type of woman they are, as well as how they are
ultimately rewarded or punished. Sissy Jupe exemplifies the ideal Victorian woman in a
maledominated Coketown. Throughout the novel, Sissy remains a compassionate, realistic, and
nurturing young woman. As a child, Sissy does not succumb to the system of facts introduced to her
by Mr. Gradgrind. She struggles with concepts such as arithmetic or living objectively. She shares her
failures at school with Louisa who comforts her with, You are more useful to my mother, and more
pleasant with yourself than I am to myself (Dickens 55). This comment expresses how Sissy is
realistic since her

5 3. The Lawsuit In this essay, the massive design war between mobile devices giants Apple and
Samsung will be summarized and reviewed. This lawsuit was the first of a series of ongoing lawsuits
between the two. Apple s multinational lawsuits concerning mainly technology patents became known
as the mobile device patent war; extensive litigation in fierce competition in the global market for
mobile devices and applications. 15 months after Apple first sued Samsung, the two companies were
both defendant and plaintiff in more than 50 lawsuits around the globe. The claimed damaged between
the corporations ran into the billions of dollars. In the end, Samsung won rulings in its favor in South
Korea, Japan and the UK. Apple won a ruling in its favor in the U.S. In this review, only the first
original lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California will be
addressed. The hostile standoff between the two corporate giants Apple and Samsung can be seen as a
shapeshifting space for intellectual property laws. This is because of the different interpretations of IP
law this case has evoked from the courts. The Lawsuit happened after the two corporations had several
meetings about intellectual property infringement issues that led nowhere. Over the course of several
months, Apple CEO Tim Cook had met with Samsung s top executives to try and reach a settlement.
The two sides were even asked, by the judge

Cowboys and Aliens Directed by Jon Favreau
Cowboys and Aliens (2011) directed by Jon Favreau, takes place in a Western style setting in New
Mexico territory. Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) wakes up in the middle of the desert severely injured
with no recollection as to why he is in pain. At this point he notices the scientific and advanced
technology attached to his wrist. This strange mechanical device immediately incorporates the science
fiction aspect to a clearly western style film. After killing three men who were attempting to attack
him, he steals their clothes, a horse, and guns so he can ride into town. From there he discovers he is a
wanted man, is taken to jail, and eventually escapes. Lonergan finds his way to an abandoned cabin
where he experiences a flashback explaining that he used to steal gold and has a love interest. Alice
(Abigail Spencer), his lover, pleads to him to return the gold, and immediately after she says this,
aliens abduct both of them. After these events, the aliens abduct multiple people from the town leading
Lonergan to join up with Colonel Woodrow (Harrison Ford), Ella Swenson (Olivia Wilde), Doc (Sam
Rockwell), Nat Colorado (Adam Beache), and many more loyal followers. Together, these characters
seek to take back their loved ones, fight off the alien forces, and regain control of the land being
invaded.

My Reflection On The Court Trip
This is a report of my reflection on the court trip that my class, CLU 3M attened on May 18, 2016.
This report contains my reflection on what I did that day, what I saw, and my opinion on our judicial
system. In this report some of the terms that I recognized during the trips are bolded, and I have
elaborated on the meanings of the terms. I will conclude this report with my opinion the court process.
Brad and I walked into the provincial court on Wyndham street at approximately 8:40 am. Provincial
courts are the lower courts in the jurisdiction. As soon as I noticed 4 clipboards that had pages with a
list of names and timing on them, this was also referred as a docket. The names were the offenders of
the case, and there time represented their trial time. An offender is the person who had committed the
illegal act. As I walked down the narrow hall I joined in with the rest of the class. We were sitting in
the waiting area, and near the sign that said duty counsel. Duty counsels are lawyers that can give the
accused advise on what they should when the accused do not have a lawyer. As we waited a lawyer
came outside of the office and yelled, If anybody needs duty counsel . I noticed there were two court
rooms, both had their own dockets. The court room was separated by the waiting area, and the
vending machine. As I waited for Mr. Fast to come, I looked around and saw some really sketchy
looking people, I even recognized two from my elementary school. There were allot of

Sexual Assault In College Essay
Sexual assault among college students is a tragic incident that keeps reoccurring. There are three
predictors I believe heavily contributes to sexual assault among college students. The first predictor is
that an individual is in a college environment that promotes heavy drinking and sexual activity while
drinking. I believe this contributes to the chances of someone getting sexual assaulted because college
students in this environment might think it s the norm and feel that it is ok because their campus pairs
sexual activity with drinking. The consumption of alcohol lowers someone s inhibition to make
plausible decisions. Similarly, if a person is younger age and lower year in school that is one predictor
for sexual assault to occur. Younger age and underclassmen risk being taken advance of on college
campuses. They can be easily lied or fooled to by upperclassmen, especially in a relationship.

External Changes And Internal Reforms Of The Last 40 Years
This essay will show that the external changes and internal reforms of the last 40 years have led to the
retreat of the liberal democratic state. Perhaps, these changes and reforms have resulted in the revival
of the state, but overall this has not been the case. This is due to the fragmentation and diminished
accountability stemmed from the internal reform, new public management. Although the issue of
Europeanisation is raised when discussing the state s retreatment, I will focus on the topic of
globalisation. This is because of the loss of power, sovereignty and nationality the state has suffered.
The liberal democratic state has been in retreat due to its fragmentation and diminished accountability
caused by the internal reform: new public management (NPM). NPM is an attempt to reform the
public sector through the application of management techniques used in the private sector. In reality,
NPM is a loose concept, consisting of different economic reforms. (Osborne 2009) While the adoption
of NPM has had many advantages, there have been substantial unintended consequences from this
implementation. This internal reform has resulted in a fragmentation of the state that has led to blurred
and diminished accountability. Rhodes explains that within the UK civil service the role of officials is
increasingly constrained by new management systems and political controls. The obvious outcomes of
these changes are fragmentation and diminished accountability. (1994: 151) This

implemented. In other words, data on a teacher s features and characteristics cannot be further
researched or collected. Yet, public schools rely on them to ensure the quality of all their students
education are being kept high. Undoubtedly, this direct approach has a huge influence on the students
lives. However, this method s outcomes might not always be favourable. Moreover, public schools are
pursing many opportunities to avoid this type of situations. In this report, the data on the teachers from
1991 2014 will be interpreted based on: types of certificates, years of experience, age, volume of
workload, and amount of salaries. Thus, this analysis might help solve this question: What is the most
significant qualification

Character Analysis Of Janie s Interest In Tea Cake By Zora...
Janie comes to the realization that she is interested in Tea Cake, but does not want anyone to know.
She is insecure and embarrassed because she is nearly fifteen years older than him; at the time, it was
unusual for women to be older than their spouses, let alone by twelve years. For the most part, men
were older than their wives to show dominance and protection. Janie believes that people would find
their relationship inappropriate. Tea Cake, however, treats her as if she was a young woman again,
showing by the way he flirts and jokes around. She is comfortable with him because he is not
pressuring her to marry again, like everyone else is, but instead gives her time to think about what she
is doing, no matter how eager he is. He is trying

Persuasive Essay on Why to Choose a Mac
The Personal Computer There is a point in ones life where they are confronted with the arduous task
of deciding what computer is best for them, this decision process is usually decided on a few factors
which are price, reliability, security, storage space and of course the computers speed. In today s
economy buying a machine of value that works is hard to come by but one company has it figured out;
it is time to invest in Apple computer. Apple is a company that was founded in 1976 by Steve
Wozniak, Steve Jobs, and Ron Wayne in the hopes of making the PC personal again. The Apple
revolution began in 1984 when Macintosh was introduced. In 1984 Apples market share was only 5%
now its at 9.4% and slowly growing. The reason for this is due ... Show more content on

In the case of PC you have multiple companies creating the vessels in which the Microsoft operating
system is in use, so right here we already have an issue with compatibility because there is no
communication between these two different companies. Secondly when Microsoft programs their
operating system that have a bunch of department working on different parts of the software, so one
group will work on peripheral compatibility and created the coding for that and other group will have
created the security system, well since these two departments are not working together the coding
created is often in contradiction to each as witnessed with the atrocity that is/was Windows Vista. The
argument we often hear from PC users is that the cost of a Mac is too high and they can purchase a
machine with the same power as a Mac for less. Although the cost of a Mac is relatively higher about
400 600 in the long run the higher cost and the value of the Mac will outweigh the pc. Lets take the
new 27 IMac into consideration. First off the amount of pixels used is well above and beyond the HD
quality of 1080p. To purchase another computer screen with this amount of pixilation will require a
screen larger than 30 and with a price tag well above 1000 dollars. Secondly it ships with a wireless
keyboard standard and with the new wireless multi touch mouse. The first desktop of any

The Shimna River Essay
The Shimna River As part of our A level Geography course I have decided to study the Shimna River
as my case study. I picked this case study because I thought it would be both interesting and
challenging as well as the fact it was on our doorstep. Before we could do anything we had to plan our
investigation.
Through my fieldwork I must obtain a table of results. For such data I must display it in a clear and
straightforward manner so I can analyse and interpret the results using statistical analysis such as
averages, spearman s rank, nearest neighbour, chi square and location quotient.

We took many safety precautions including going up the mountain when water levels weren t
dangerously high, choosing a calm day avoiding hazardous weather. We made sure that we all stayed
together and set up lines of communication. It was essential that we wore warm comfortable clothing
with a first aid kit always at hand.
Aims
When we set out at the start we had several aims to consider.
1) Does the river discharge increase the further from the source?
2) Is there a relationship between river width and stream velocity?
3) As the wetted perimeter increases, river velocity decreases.
4) The further from the source the stones deposited become smaller, smoother and more rounded.
5) Does river temperature readings increase the further from the source?
Data Collection
At each of our seventeen stops we recorded readings for river width, average depth, cross sectional
area, wetted perimeter, river discharge, types of stones and water temperature.
We systematically obtained our samples by measuring every ten meters at each of our four locations.
In my analysis of the River Shimna I selected three areas within the river study. They were the

and once Martin was old enough to attend a school he began his elementary schooling there. Once

In 1517, Luther created a document for debate with the church. The document, known as the Ninety
five Theses, outlined what Luther saw were discrepancies between the actions of the church and what
Scripture teaches. He nailed the paper to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg on October 31,
1517. Albert, the Archbishop of Mainz and Magdeburg, received a copy of the document the same
day. (McKim 8) The church proceeded to charge Luther with heresy and over the course of the next
three years, he faced several panels. Finally, in 1520, the pope excommunicated Luther and fearing for
his life, Luther went into hiding. During this time, Luther married a former nun named Katharina von
Bora. During 1524 1526, Luther came out of hiding to oppose a revolt lead by the peasants in
Germany which the other Protestant clergy supported.
Finally, during 1531 1546 Luther s health began to wane. Luther was busy struggling with the conflict
which was developing in the Reformation movement. As time progressed, his writings became more
judgmental of other people. Toward the end of his life, his writings became anti Semitic, calling for
the deportation of all Jews from Germany. On February 17, 1546, Luther felt chest pains after
completing settlement negotiations; he died the next day.

Fragmentation Of The California Red Legged Frog
Peter Eskander
Professor Tim Karels
Biology 327
12 September 2015
Fragmentation of the California Red legged Frog Environment. The issue I will be raising is one that
might not be familiar to all who reside in California and that is primarily focused around the
fragmentation and overall mutilation of areas that keep and protect the species Rana Draytonii,
otherwise known as the California Red legged Frog. One of the reasons I raise this issue, is because
most importantly these frogs were named the official state amphibian of California via AB 2364
(Patrick McGreevy.). An even greater reason to discuss this dilemma is because they are limited in
their size around the Southernmost California residences, whereas they had previously occupied
approximately 70% of its former habitat according to environmentalists (Campbell.). My goal is to
highlight their ecological value to the state and how the California red legged frog s value is more
significant than the fragmentation and intrusion taking place. These red legged frogs are currently
listed as endangered, but they are vulnerable to human intrusion by means of erecting buildings,
projects for road construction, introduction of a non native species along with habitat fragmentation in
areas near where they might usually reside such as near the south Mendocino County and along
southern California with populations extending to the Santa Rosa Plateau (Hammerson, Geoffrey).
The California red legged frog has an intrinsic link to

Theme Of Isolation In Catcher In The Rye
P.7 According to Merriam Webster, isolation is defined as to set apart from others . The novel, The
Catcher in the Rye and the film, Rebel Without a Cause both show how isolation affected certain
characters. In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden is isolated from the community around him. In Rebel
Without a Cause, Plato is as well isolated, he doesn t have a relationship with anyone at his school or
at home. Holden and Plato are similar in the way that they both struggle with isolation because they
cannot make a personal connection or relate to anyone in their lives. Holden s isolation stems from
superiority, while Plato s isolations stems from an inferiority complex. Holden shows many instances
of isolation throughout the book because he thinks that he is superior to everyone. For instance,
Holden was at Ernie s he was listening to Ernie playing the piano, he started to complain about how
pathetic it was that Ernie was playing the piano for a crowd. Anyway, when he was finished, and
everybody was clapping their heads off, old Ernie turned around on his stool and gave this very phony,
humble bow. Like as if he was a helluva humble guy... It was very phony I mean him being such a big
snob and all (110). Holden was jealous of Ernie because people were drawn to him and they like him.
Holden immediately concludes that there is a problem with Ernie. He does that because he thinks that
he is superior to everyone and that everyone else has the problem and not him. Holden s mindset of

Music Analysis Bach Suite No. 3 in D Major Gavotte Essay
Analysis: Bach Suite No. 3 in D major
The instruments used in the piece are: * Trumpet 1 * Trumpet 2 * Trumpet 3 * Timpani * Oboe 1 *
Oboe 2 * Violin 1 * Violin 2 * Viola * Continuo Harpsichord or Double Bass
Why this piece is typically baroque
This is piece is baroque as it includes many of the baroque characteristics: * Perfect Cadence!! In the
concept Pitch, the perfect cadence is very obvious at the end of the sections and phrases change from
the dominant to the tonic. * Duration the rhythmic pattern heard at the start of each gavotte, is
reiterated many times throughout the piece. This also links to Pitch the opening melody of the piece is
heard many times throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phrases are generally 8 beats long extending over 3 the last two beats of the first bar and the first
two beats of the third bar( in the excerpt to the right).
Throughout Section A, there is no syncopation all notes fall on the beat.
Texture The texture is homophonic throughout the whole of Section A. There are three layers of sound
in the Section A. The first is the melody played by the violins and trumpets. This is the layer of sound
which is most prominent throughout A. The second is the timpani and viola part. This is the softest
layer throughout the section. It provides harmony to the melody, using the notes of the D major chord.
The last layer is the continuo bass It provides accompaniment and bass.
The harmonic rhythm is not very steady as the chords only change in bars 7, 10 and 11. The chord
changes from D to A and then from A to E and E to A (shown in the musical excerpt). These chord
changes are changes from either the dominant to the tonic or the tonic to the dominant, showing the
typical barque chord changes.
Through adding trumpets, bars 1 3 and bars 5 7 are the densest of Section A. This highlights the main
repeated motif. Bars 3 5 and 7 11 are softer as these are the less important phrases of the section.
Section A1 bars 12 27
This Section is called A1, because it uses similar rhythms and pitch throughout the Section. The
structure of the section is however not the same to section A as there are various key changes

Theme Of Remembrance In The Devil s Arithmetic
In the early 1940s, the Nazis, led by Adolf Hitler, wanted world domination. They invaded many
countries and sent many citizens to concentration camps. Many of those sent to the camps were
Jewish, and were murdered for their religion. Jane Yolen wrote The Devil s Arithmetic to remember
these events, known as the Holocaust. Jane Yolen s novel, The Devil s Arithmetic, delivers the
message of remembrance more aptly than Donna Deitch s film because of the character Rivka, the
sacrifices made, and the dehumanization.
The novel delivers the message of remembrance through Rivka s character. To begin, when Rivka is
explaining how most of her family is gone, she says, As long as we can remember, all those gone
before us live inside of us. Throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when Chaya is getting her number tattooed, the tattoo artist tells her, You are Chaya no
longer, child. Now you are J197241. Remember it. The people of the camp are their numbers,
something they could never forget. The string of numbers on their arm will be a constant reminder of
the pain they felt. Deitch could believe that the film dehumanized the Jewish prisoners. She would be
incorrect in thinking this because in the film, Commandant Breuer says I m surprised at you ladies. By
referring to the group of women as ladies, Breuer is humanizing them. In addition, when the group of
Jews are being escorted out of the boxcars, Yolen writes that the dead baby was torn from its mother s
arms and cast behind a horse s watering trough. The disrespect and disregard the Nazis had for a life,
even after it s gone, enforces the need to remember this horrible

Self regulated learning is a total work of the human brain; it entails attention, concentration, self

accomplished through the demand pull approach which presents students with a vivid, possibly

  • 2. Essay on Judges Need to Follow Previous Precedent Judges Need to Follow Previous Precedent The lower courts are bound by the House of Lords so they have to apply their rules as if they were applying a statute. It was decided after the case London street tramways v London county council (1898) that the House of Lords would be bound by its own previous decisions. This was a case during the nineteenth century, during the Victorian times when it was important to be consistent and certain. However during the twentieth century both society and the law developed and some decisions made in previous cases were now unsuitable, so the House of Lords made a Practice Statement in 1966. As a result of the Practice Statement 1966 the House of Lords does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pepper v Hart (1993) overruled Beswick v Beswick (1968) on the use of Hansard as an extrinsic aid to statutory interpretation. The Court of Appeal is usually bound by its own previous decisions and always bound by those of the House of Lords. However there are some exceptions to this rule shown in Young v Bristol Aeroplane Co (1944) . Where there were conflicting decisions in past cases then the court of appeal can choose which one to follow or reject. If a House of Lords decision overrules a court of appeal decision then they must follow the House of Lords decision. Where a Court of appeal decision was made per incurium then the decision made in error can be overruled. There is a further exception now that if a case conflicts with the decision of the European court of justice, the court of appeal will have to follow the decision of the European court of justice instead of its own. Lord Denning has voiced his argument in favour of giving more power to the Court of Appeal and in Davis v Johnson (1978) he wished to provide justice as quickly as possible for a spouse in a matrimonial dispute. He wanted the Court if appeal to be able to overrule a previous decision if convinced that the decision was wrong but the House of Lords unequivocally and unanimously reaffirmed the rules of ... • 3. Positive Role Model Title Imagine living in a world without role models. Creation would be an immense chaotic mess with the population acting like heathens. Similar to a flower that does not receive enough nourishments gradually perishing, without positive role models feeding our youth, creation would inhabit senselessness and eventually terminate. Today, in the society we live in, people are more concerned on the public status, or simply the exterior appearance, of a person rather than the example they are setting. Leading to the question, what is a positive role model? Well, this can be very complex in explaining, everyone s ideal role model can vary from one and another. • 4. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee In today s society, it is possible for a woman to achieve nearly anything; however, for a woman of yesterday s society, bringing world wide recognition to the many faces of prejudice is an accomplishment of its own. Author Harper Lee has had the honor to accomplish just that through her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, a moving and inspirational story about a young girl learning the difference between the good and the bad of the world. In the small town of Monroeville, Alabama, Nelle Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926. Growing up, Harper Lee had three siblings: two sisters and an older brother. She and her siblings grew up modestly. Even though money was not as much of a problem for her family as it was for others of their time, her father never did spoil her and her siblings. Lee and her brother attended a public grammar school in Monroe County, and Harper Lee continued to further her education after her high school graduation. She attended Huntingdon College for a year and then transferred to the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa where she studied law from 1945 to 1949. While she was at the University of Alabama, she was also an exchange student at Oxford University in England for a year. Harper Lee always had a passion for writing. She wrote articles and satires for her college newspaper. Months before completing her law degree, Lee moved to New York to pursue a writing career. • 7. My Personal Statement Of One Phone Call Who would have thought that one phone call could change my whole life? I recall I was in the kitchen grabbing a snack from the fridge when my phone rang. I remember that before even hanging up with Ms. Rola, I found all my family around me hugging and congratulating me. I couldn t believe it at first. After years of hard work, I made it to AUB with a full scholarship to a major that I always had a passion in. Something to be proud of, right? I was thrilled, but scared at the same time. I knew that AUB will be a big challenge, a different environment with different people and a different lifestyle. Nevertheless, I was up for it. I always wanted to become an AUB student yet it was a burden to afford such prestigious education, knowing that my father is the only breadwinner of the family. He used to always tell me: Do not worry about the money, everything will work out eventually , but I knew that he was just comforting me. By the time I got the call, I was already planning my next year at a public university. I still remember my father s face the moment he knew about the scholarship as he hugged me and whispered to me that he is very proud of my achievements. The first few days at AUB were weird. • 8. Relationship Between Nursing Profession With Scholarship,... The purpose of this paper is to integrate the relationship between nursing profession with scholarship, praxis, and evidence based practice to improve quality of care for individuals and their respective societies. The Oxford English dictionary defined scholarship as the attainments of a scholar, learning, and erudition in a person (Scholarship, 2016). Scholarship is a noun of academic study or achievement, learning at a higher level. Scholarship in nursing has become an essential part of our professional evolution. Professional nursing practice at all levels is grounded in ethical practice. Essentially, nurses need the constant searching and analysis attitude toward their practice and the care environment. The conceptualization of scholarship in nursing has been seen most times from the point of teaching and research. The master s prepared nurses examine policies and seek evidence for every aspect of practice, thereby disseminating current evidence and identifying gaps where evidence is lacking. Students being prepared for direct care roles will have graduate level content that builds upon an undergraduate foundation in health assessment, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. Having a master prepared graduates with a strong background in these three areas is seen as imperative from the practice perspective (American Association of College of Nursing [AACN], 2011, p. 9). Our case company is a nonprofit organization MacMillan Cancer Support. The first thing we did is to get to understand how charity works. After the first group meeting, we decided to find the information about the company and the industry individually and then made a pool of collected information. As a student from China, I knew little about charity because in my country charity is not a big industry and people seldom pay attention to this field. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We felt we needed to make some change to move forward then we turned to the framework we learned the lectures. Information analysis Our first step was to identify the goal of MacMillan. Unlike profit driven company, charity s goal is not to chase profit but to make the world better. Their intentions are always altruistic. According to their homepage and their annual report we found their nine outcomes as their goals. They are devoted to cancer support to make sure that everyone affected by cancer will not face the disease alone. After specifying their goal, we moved to the environmental analysis. Since it was in the first few weeks, we chose the PEST and five forces framework to use. When we started to analyze, a main problem came to us. Since MacMillan is a nonprofit organization, the definition of its competitors confused us. Should it be all the charities worldwide or only the local cancer charities? Through looking up the textbooks and identifying the industry, we thought that in this industry they mainly competed for the funding, so we defined their competitors as all the cancer charities which searched for funding against MacMillan. Since the definition of their competitors has been clarified, we started to look the industry. We thought the hospitals and hospices could be the substitutes of charity and the new cancer charity would be the potential entrants. In the five ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not only is this significant in itself, it is also the adversity she overcame growing up to get there. There are many 3 different views that can be drawn on the research and conclusions. First, since Inez was African American herself, this may have conflicted within her African American community. Why? Since African Americans have been struggling for equal rights and equality in education, this would seem to go against what her own race has been struggling to achieve. On the surface it would appear that way. However, her research was from a psychological perspective that had not yet been considered or researched. Ironically, her conclusions in her study in her dissertation could also be useful as the topic of desegregation that did not come along until decades after her study. The question that was answered even before its time, is how desegregation would effect the students themselves. Would this have a positive or negative effect on their education? If equality was to be reached in the public school system wouldn t this have to also mean that the African American students would also fare better than in integrated schools? What s the use in achieving desegregation if it is going to have such a negative impact on the African American students? If you will notice, the word integrated is used in place of desegregation in her study since desegregation had not yet even been addressed! • 12. The Between Female And Female Adolescents A. When traveling to the village, I watched the younger villagers participate in recess. I initially realized the strong distinction between the two gender s interactions. Through the three days in the village, I came to realize that the female adolescents were not permitted to participate in contact sports. In comparison, the male adolescents were consistently shown participating in soccer, the national sport of Haiti. I would constantly watch the interactions between the two genders of the adolescents and noticed that they were blatantly distant. The females were shown gossiping on the playgrounds and playing tag, ignoring the total fact of the males playing soccer very aggressively. On the last two days in the village, Aina and I attempted to join their game of soccer, but they were hesitant until we supplied an adequate soccer ball for them. Even when they allowed us to join the game with them, they still were very hesitant to interact with us in relation to passing us the ball. In addition, we also gave the girls a ball to play with, but they just put it to the side and neglected to use it. It was an overall interesting experience, because even when we moved from playing with the older adolescents to the younger group, the same distinction was present and the only children playing with us were male. People are not quite sure what a Real Estate Open House is. Certainly, if you have been invited to a holiday Open House, you remember a gigantic cocktail party at a neighbor s house or a homey buffet where friends and family are all trying to talk and hold plastic plates piled with a concoction of edibles, at the same time. Well, Real Estate Open Houses are quite different. They are held for the purpose of showing a house for sale to potential buyers. Sometimes there is food on hand but the purpose of this outing is not social conviviality, but business. Here are some types. Category 1. The Open House for Realtors Let s say, you have selected a particular real estate agent and you want her to handle the sale of your house. If the agency belongs to a multiple listing organization (and most of them do) they will thereupon hold an open house for the other agents in the area. These may include agents from their own broker s office and agents from other offices. Your agent will ask you to get your house in ship shape. That means she wants you to have everything cleaned (windows, carpets, etc.) and have all the clutter put out of the way. She will probably ask you to leave the house, and to take your dog, cat, and children with you. Throughout many of our childhoods and even adult lives, we see athletes as heroes, but are they just good athletes or do they have characteristics that make them truly heroic? Half the platoon members were ordered to tow the vehicle, but were attacked by Taliban insurgents. When Tillman and his half of the platoon came to the rescue, they were mistaken for enemy soldiers. Tillman was shot three times in the head while protecting a young soldier (1). It was later learned that the military and the government had worked to cover up how Tillman was killed. His biography states, After Tillman s death, the investigation proved that Army commanders and members of the Bush administration concealed the truth behind the soldier s shooting by destroying items of his clothing, his notebooks and even hiding parts of Tillman s body to cover up evidence (1). • 17. Constitutional Law And The Criminal Justice System Essay When it comes to the United States, (U.S), the majority of the American people love their seconded amendment rights. As stated in the textbook, Constitutional Law and the Criminal Justice System by J. Scott Harr, Karen M. Hess, Christine Orthmann, the second amendment of the United States Constitution, for the most part, protects the U.S. citizens rights to keep and bear arms (Harr, Hess, Orthmann, Kingsbury, 2015, p. 167). That being said, each state in the U.S. will vary in their firearms laws. For instance, some states make it easier for their residence to purchase or use a firearm; other states may have stricter laws that require a more scrutinized screening process. To be more specific, most states vary in elements, such as the exceptions to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, the waiting period on purchasing firearms; if someone needs a license to own or purchase a gun; if registration is required; and if a record of the firearm sales is sent to the local police. Other factors that will differ from state to state would include, if some firearms are permitted or not allowed to be sold or owned by a state, the concealed carry laws, hunter protection laws; range protection laws, and finally, not all states have firearm injury lawsuit preemption. At the present time, the NICS principle objective is to insure that firearms do not fall under the control of individuals who wittingly abuse the privilege or mistreat others (Bureau of Alcohol, ... • 19. Essay about Cannibalism Cannibalism is the consumption of human flesh by other human beings. The concept of people eating other people is highly debatable, but it has been proven to occur throughout history. The word cannibalism comes from the Carib Indians of the West Indies, which were called Caribales quot; or Canibales (Spier 543). The Spanish word canibales translates to thirsty and cruel in English. Another known term for cannibalism is the Latin form anthropophagy (Bell). Anthropophagy derives from the Greek words anthropos meaning man and phagein meaning eat. Forty six survivors were eventually rescued, but they received excessive judgement for their actions. They were tried for their crimes of cannibalism, and they all served six months in prison before they could return to their communities (Bell). Another case of survival cannibalism took place in 1972 when a group of South American rugby players were stranded in the Andes Mountains. Forty five people left on an airplane for their destination of Chile, and only sixteen would make it alive. Their plane crashed into the Andes Mountains, killing thirteen people from the crash itself. The crash also injured many others who would eventually die over the weeks from their injuries. The mountains offered no supplies or food for support. With no food, many of the crash survivors resorted to eating the deceased. Those survivors who refused to eat their fellow people died of starvation. This group of people spent seventy days in the mountains before the sixteen survivors were rescued and brought home (Bell). The story of these South American athletes would be the plot for the movie Alive (1993) which was based on a true story (Goldman). Foster care is defined supervised care for delinquent or neglected children usually in an institution or substitute home set up by the government. In order to establish communities, you need people who are able to create bonds with one another through similar interests, common goals, and anything that can stir up simple conversations. It sounds easy to talk to people, but most of the time, conversation is a lot more complex than it sounds. In order to have conversation, we need to put aside our internal conflicts that we all are guilty of having; such as stereotyping, putting our emotions first, and not listening to other peoples opinions. Environment, people, topic, and many other characteristics are crucial in order to have a good conversation. Communities have been bonded throughout the years by conversation, but how we communicate has changed and continues to change as time progresses. Communication can be done in multiple ways. You can have a face to face dialogue with people, call someone, text, facetime, email; the ways these days are endless. These types of connections were not around when the adults of this generation were younger, but the teenagers now are part of an era where technology is major and available when wanting to speak to people. • 24. How Does Dickens Present The Portrayal Of Victorian Women In a male dominated world, does the role of women even matter? In the Victorian era, women were expected to be innocent, loving, and interested in their husbands business or other affiliations. In Charles Dickens Hard Times, he portrays the Victorian society s realistic and unrealistic views of an ideal Victorian woman in a maledominated world. Through the portrayal of his female characters, Dickens shows the lack of morality people had during this time period, as well as emphasizing how an ideal Victorian woman should act. Dickens example of an idealistic Victorian woman is Sissy Jupe, while her contrast is Mrs. Sparsit. Louisa s character however, shows the change from a nonidealistic to an idealistic Victorian woman. The several female characters compare and contrast with each other throughout the novel and provide evidence of which type of woman they are, as well as how they are ultimately rewarded or punished. Sissy Jupe exemplifies the ideal Victorian woman in a maledominated Coketown. Throughout the novel, Sissy remains a compassionate, realistic, and nurturing young woman. As a child, Sissy does not succumb to the system of facts introduced to her by Mr. Gradgrind. She struggles with concepts such as arithmetic or living objectively. She shares her failures at school with Louisa who comforts her with, You are more useful to my mother, and more pleasant with yourself than I am to myself (Dickens 55). This lawsuit was the first of a series of ongoing lawsuits between the two. Apple s multinational lawsuits concerning mainly technology patents became known as the mobile device patent war; extensive litigation in fierce competition in the global market for mobile devices and applications. 15 months after Apple first sued Samsung, the two companies were both defendant and plaintiff in more than 50 lawsuits around the globe. Apple won a ruling in its favor in the U.S. In this review, only the first original lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California will be addressed. The hostile standoff between the two corporate giants Apple and Samsung can be seen as a shapeshifting space for intellectual property laws. This is because of the different interpretations of IP law this case has evoked from the courts. There are three predictors I believe heavily contributes to sexual assault among college students. The first predictor is that an individual is in a college environment that promotes heavy drinking and sexual activity while drinking. I believe this contributes to the chances of someone getting sexual assaulted because college students in this environment might think it s the norm and feel that it is ok because their campus pairs sexual activity with drinking. The consumption of alcohol lowers someone s inhibition to make plausible decisions. Similarly, if a person is younger age and lower year in school that is one predictor for sexual assault to occur. • 36. External Changes And Internal Reforms Of The Last 40 Years This essay will show that the external changes and internal reforms of the last 40 years have led to the retreat of the liberal democratic state. Perhaps, these changes and reforms have resulted in the revival of the state, but overall this has not been the case. This is due to the fragmentation and diminished accountability stemmed from the internal reform, new public management. Although the issue of Europeanisation is raised when discussing the state s retreatment, I will focus on the topic of globalisation. This is because of the loss of power, sovereignty and nationality the state has suffered. The liberal democratic state has been in retreat due to its fragmentation and diminished accountability caused by the internal reform: new public management (NPM). NPM is an attempt to reform the public sector through the application of management techniques used in the private sector. In reality, NPM is a loose concept, consisting of different economic reforms. (Osborne 2009) While the adoption of NPM has had many advantages, there have been substantial unintended consequences from this implementation. This internal reform has resulted in a fragmentation of the state that has led to blurred and diminished accountability. Rhodes explains that within the UK civil service the role of officials is increasingly constrained by new management systems and political controls. The obvious outcomes of these changes are fragmentation and diminished accountability. (1994: 151) This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The issue I will be raising is one that might not be familiar to all who reside in California and that is primarily focused around the fragmentation and overall mutilation of areas that keep and protect the species Rana Draytonii, otherwise known as the California Red legged Frog. One of the reasons I raise this issue, is because most importantly these frogs were named the official state amphibian of California via AB 2364 (Patrick McGreevy.). An even greater reason to discuss this dilemma is because they are limited in their size around the Southernmost California residences, whereas they had previously occupied approximately 70% of its former habitat according to environmentalists (Campbell.). My goal is to highlight their ecological value to the state and how the California red legged frog s value is more significant than the fragmentation and intrusion taking place. These red legged frogs are currently listed as endangered, but they are vulnerable to human intrusion by means of erecting buildings, projects for road construction, introduction of a non native species along with habitat fragmentation in areas near where they might usually reside such as near the south Mendocino County and along southern California with populations extending to the Santa Rosa Plateau (Hammerson, Geoffrey). The novel, The Catcher in the Rye and the film, Rebel Without a Cause both show how isolation affected certain characters. In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden is isolated from the community around him. In Rebel Without a Cause, Plato is as well isolated, he doesn t have a relationship with anyone at his school or at home. Holden and Plato are similar in the way that they both struggle with isolation because they cannot make a personal connection or relate to anyone in their lives. Holden s isolation stems from superiority, while Plato s isolations stems from an inferiority complex. Holden shows many instances of isolation throughout the book because he thinks that he is superior to everyone. For instance, Holden was at Ernie s he was listening to Ernie playing the piano, he started to complain about how pathetic it was that Ernie was playing the piano for a crowd. Anyway, when he was finished, and everybody was clapping their heads off, old Ernie turned around on his stool and gave this very phony, humble bow. Like as if he was a helluva humble guy...
