The Pros And Cons Of Gay Conversion Therapy
The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a Christian minister s challenge to California s ban on gay
conversion therapy, upholding a lower court s ruling that the ban was constitutional.
Monday was the second time in three years that the U.S. Supreme court rejected a challenge to the
2012 legislation putting a ban on gay conversion therapy in California. The said law prohibits mental
health counselors, psychologists, and social workers licensed in the state from offering the said
therapy to alter minors sexual orientation, Reuters details.
Donald Welch, a licensed family therapist and a minister at the Skyline Wesleyan Church, had

Beowulf and Grendel Essay
Beowulf and Grendel
Beowulf and Grendel are actually the same stories in the fact that they are based on the same epic
Beowulf. Beowulf , that is told of here is translated by Kevin Crossley Holland, and there are many
different translations which makes Beowulf the epic so interchangeable. Although Beowulf and
Grendel seem very similar they do have many differences as well. Reading the two stories back to
back gives you the impression of how many differences there are. For example, Beowulf is written
from an outsider s point of view. Grendel is written from Grendel s point of view. This changes the
whole perception of the book. Seeing a story written from two different points of views not only helps

The stories actually differ in ways that make your feelings change about the plot. These two stories
were written during the Anglo Saxon period. Anglo Saxon was also the time of Medieval England.
Each story gives a good representation of this time. It is necessary to learn about this period in order to
get the full impact of these stories. To understand that Medieval England was very different compared
to the current time is very important before reading the two stories. In the Anglo Saxon time they had
no rights for animals, they would simply slaughter them for all the food they could eat. In today s time
there are animal rights. For example, there are animal rights activists. They believe that animals
should not be killed for food or sport. Today s societal views would have been laughed at from the
point of view of the medieval world. Today we have the luxury of being able to drive down the street,
run into the grocery store, and purchase whatever food we need. The Anglo Saxon s did not have cars
nor were there grocery stores. As for the Anglo Saxon s, they had to get their own food whatever way
possible. That meant they had to go out and kill animals for their meat, have their own gardens in
order to have. The medieval period was one of wars, fighting, and killing. In that time people were
killing other people without the consequences of jail time like there is today. They would have a little
trial type situation where the

Stradivari Analysis
If Stradivari would have ever needed a virtuoso to test and analyze the secret properties of his divine
violins, the brilliance, sweetness of the most precious instruments ever crafted by human kind, by
human hand, I know who that person is. She lives among us now in the 21st century. As is said, she
sleeps and breathes every musical vibration her mortal existence and soul can possibly conjure up. She
is the one. The correct one, the virtuoso born in heaven. The one he never met.
But her mind was forever living in the past with those chosen few composer artists, surviving in the
long past age of classical masters who are the greatest musicians, and will always be the greatest
composers of all time. She will never be content because she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He waited until the concert ended and then made himself known to the young and perfect maestro.
Meeting the young virtuoso caused an irreconcilable experience of mixed emotions which he had
never before experienced and he certainly did not understand now. Stradivari spoke in reluctance and
hopeful anticipation at once. He said, Embrace the vision of this solo instrument, young man. I made
this violin, yes. This is the finest instrument I could have ever crafted and the finest my family
tradition has ever crafted. All that be as it may, without you this object is nothing but a mere stone.
Take this and fill the ears of humanity with the celestial sounds of the Godly universe. With that,
Stradivari left the grandiose concert hall feeling so fulfilled that he had at least done something which
would lift the spirit of humanity for centuries beyond. For that reason, every remaining day of his life
he would ponder the moment he gifted that precious violin to the boy. You see, Stradivari knew that no
matter what, the violin which was now the boy s instrument would create and inspire, and forever
empower the sentiments of music destined to change the universe

Planetree Analysis
The founder of the Planetree is Angelica Thieriot (Sharrow Durand, 2012). Thieriot made Planetree
symbolize a sycamore tree. The sycamore tree was the location where Hippocrates taught his medical
students the art and science of healing. Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is a love of
humanity, Hippocrates once said. Planetree is bringing back the healing principals that Hippocrates
believed in. (Planetree: An Introduction Huelat Davis | Healing Design (Formerly Huelat Parimucha),

The Domination Of Merchants And Land Lawyers Essay
Montejano Reading: The Domination of Merchants and Land Lawyers David Montejano approaches
the incorporation of Texas from the least romantic and colorful perspective of the merchants and land
lawyers , noting that these capital based and export oriented... frontier folk were the region s principal
architects (15). From strategic incorporation of Anglos into Mexican landed elite to the political
exclusion of Texas Mexicans, and from the development of commercial agriculture to driving
Mexicans from their land through coercion and fraud, both Anglo merchants and land lawyers become
abrasive actors in the Texan narrative. Driven by manifest destiny and a superiority complex, Anglos
routinely denied Mexicans, who were the original land owners and inhabitants of the region,
economic, political and social rights, eventually leading up to the modern state of Texas. With the Rio
Grande as an attractive opportunity for trade from Sante Fe and southward, many attempts to tap into
the potential proved unsuccessful including the use of steamboats. Instead, the lower Rio Grande and
the port of Matamoros became a point of much contention since silver bullion, lead, wool, his and
beef tallow were produced in the region. The attempts to commercialize the Rio Grande peaked during
the early 1800s, when, shortly after, two major US military expeditions ensued in attempts to claim
the territory. Nueces Strip, a practically worthless stretch of land framed by the Rio Grande in the

Thesis Statement Of The Naked Brand
THE NAKED BRAND
AND THE FUTURE OF ADVETRISING
By: Sean Pereira
The Naked Brand
The Naked Brand is a documentary film about the future of advertising. It was directed by: Jeff
Rosenblum, a founding partner of Questus and a well known innovator of the marketing world; as
well as Sherng Lee Huang, an acclaimed cinematographer. Rosenblum was inspired to make this film
to illustrate how advertising has changed from being a source of just marketing your product to a way
to connect with your customers and increase product quality. The film includes many exclusive
interviews with representatives of some of the world s most popular brands and brands which have

As an individual, Brand name heavily influences my purchasing decisions. I am usually aware of
current trends and popular brands and have a tendency to select these products. It applies specially to
my selection of clothes and shoes. I believe this is due to very strong and present marketing
campaigns from brands such as, Nike, Adidas ECT. As well as the influence of peers.
Statements from the Naked Brand

that money and invest it into customer service and customer experience. Tony Hsieh Tony Hsieh CEO

I agree with this statement. It is evident that the average consumer does not rely on advertising for
information but rather on digital and peer reviews as well as brand name. By moving the money from
advertising to customer service and experience the business can create a better image and create
customer loyalty. Businesses can greatly capitalize on this strategy.

Hasidism In Chaim Potok s The Chosen
In Chaim Potok s 1967 novel, The Chosen, Danny Saunders is the son of a Hasidic rabbi who wants
Danny to become a rabbi as well. Danny ends up going away to study psychology at Columbia, where
he will eventually no longer maintain his strong, Jewish identity which can be proven by the way that
Reuven notes that he sounds like an apikoros, he calls Graetz a great scholar even when he reads the
volume which berates Hasidism and he enjoys the works of Darwin and Freud which are things that
true Hasids would never approve of. Some individuals believe that Danny will remain a Hasidic Jew

would never abandon it. This does not provide evidence to their claim because even though Danny

History Of Desert Storm
In the early morning hours of January 18, 1991, the first PATRIOT missile engaged an Iraqi ballistic
missile, changing the future of United States Air Defense Artillery. Throughout the initial days of
Desert Storm, United States PATRIOT batteries defended the countries of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and
Israel from a barrage of Iraqi ballistic missile. This began and solidified United States alliances with
Middle Eastern countries that remain to this day. Looking at the era surrounding Desert Storm, one
can see the accelerated development of PATRIOT and US Air Defense through failures, successes, and
lessons learned. During the Iraq / Iran War, with United States support, the Iraqi military became the
4th largest military in the world. Prior to Desert Storm, the Iraqi government coveted the vast oil fields
of neighboring Kuwait. Iraqi soldiers crossed the Iraqi / Kuwait border on 2 August 1990, immediately
receiving international condemnation for their actions. President George H.W. Bush expressed in his

The United States Army claimed an initial success rate of 80% in Saudi Arabia and 50% in Israel
(Simon, 1996). Due in large part to this, military leaders credited PATRIOT with giving coalition
forces air superiority. In the 43 days of combat, the Allied coalition air sorties totaled 44,000, or more
than one bombing sortie per minute since the start of the operation (Englehardt, 1991). The dominance
in the air allowed the fighters and bombers freedom to maneuver against SCUD sites, air fields, and
other Iraqi assets essential to continue the occupation of Kuwait. However, amongst one of the
greatest failures in the Gulf War was the inability to engage a SCUD that hit US military barracks
killing 28 Army Reservists, and wounding 98. This event, in addition to accuracy issues, allowed
critics to declare the PATRIOT system

How Does Grendel Cause Hrothgar s Downfall
Character development is very important in character driven literature, where stories focus not on
events, but on individual personalities. Character development is a literary device that is used step by
step in literature to highlight and explain the details about a character in a story. And the stories that
move us most, the ones that stick inside years later, are those inhabited by characters we can connect
with and admire. And no characters resonate more than those who in the course of a story learned how
to either give in or overcome their own flaws and weaknesses to which they are remembered for. The
rocky path of personal growth and development a character undergoes in a story, usually unwillingly,
during which the character wrestles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

right on the head: He had in his youth the strength of seven men. Not now. He has nothing left but the
power of his mind and no pleasure there: a case of knives. The civilization he meant to build has
transmogrified to a forest thick with traps (121). Not only has he lost his muscle, he s lost his peace of
mind as well. The king has become trapped by everything he worked so hard to achieve. His bling, his
solid rep, his fantastic crib, and even his methods of ruling become a target for younger, ambitious
warlords. His beautiful wife, a peace offering from a young and resentful lesser king, might become a

Wildness Of Minoans Essay
But was it a religious ceremony to show mankind s dominance over nature? Shapland s article beats
back this theory that bull leaping was a way for humans to assert their dominance, strength, and power
over wild bulls. He believes Minoans did not bull leap and create representations of these leaps due to
the tension between man and nature. Nowadays, people have a tendency to reduce human animal
relations to human symbolism; Shapland calls modern scholars to have a broader view of bull leaping
than of something merely portraying the need of mankind to conquer the wildness of bulls and the
larger world. Moreover, much of the Minoans other art does not reflect this tension; rather, for scenes
depicting marine life, for example, there are aquatic creatures, not men with nets and hooks trying to
catch them; Minoan art is, for the most part, peaceful. Perhaps, then, bull leaping was something
celebrated not because it was man conquering beast, but man working harmoniously alongside the
beast.
Minoan culture is steeped in mystery, and scholarly theories swirl around the limited, archeology
based knowledge we have of these ancient Cretans. The ancient world is a slick and slippery place for
historians due to the lack of records, and we must ultimately admit that we do not and cannot know
the truth of those worlds. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The plot that is most linear according to the line of best fit is Figure 2, f(x) = 0.00310x 0.4269 with a

Also it is important to consider the spectrometers used in this lab, which had capped out above an
initial absorbance of 2 and higher in the lab, which skewed all future readings since it was impossible
to record from that value, which led to inaccurate readouts for the absorbance values. A major source
of error was that a different volumetric pipette was used to measure the initial absorbance and in Trial
1a than the micropipette used in the other four trials. Though both volumetric pipettes were 1 mL, the
possible miniscule differences between the two glassware could have created a significant difference
in the tiny volumes. The experiment could have been improved by use of a UV/Vis rather than a Spec,
which could improve the precision and accuracy of the measured absorbances and thus decrease the
uncertainty. Additionally, measuring the absorbances for a longer duration of time so that a significant
deviation from linearity could be observed could decrease the uncertainty in the reaction order with
respect to Bromophenol blue. The best alternative could involve measuring manipulated
concentrations directly against time instead of absorbance since the values would be in our control
instead of in the machine s control, which tended to show inevitable

The Importance Of Taste In Gulp By Mary Roach
Taste, like smell, is a doorman for the digestive tract, a chemical scan for the possible dangerous
(bitter, sour) elements and desireable (salty, sweet) nutrients. (46)
If you, like me, enjoy reading about what actually goes on inside of our bodies, science author Mary
Roach has a very meticulous and compelling way of describing the body s digestive system of both
humans and animals. In the hilariously disgusting book Gulp, Roach describes why we as humans
love enticing smells and sugary foods by comparing a variety of studies done in various laboratories
across the nation. The book is layered in a way that each section focuses on a different aspect of the
digestive system.
The first section of the book titled, Nose Job: Tasting has little to do with taste, Roach focuses on a

The Case Of Alfie And Peggy
The fundamental issue in the case of Alfie and Peggy is whether the items in question are a part of the
land (fixtures) that can be acquired by Alfie in the convenyancing process, or whether they are an item
of personal property (chattels) that belong in the hands of the seller Peggy . According to the Latin
maxim quicquid plantatur solo, solo cedid # , Alfie can claim ownership rights to the items in
question, if they are attached to the soil of the land. In other words, the items must all be fixtures
rather than chattels, for Alfie to seek ownership.
At face value, if an item is physically attached or annexed to the land, it is regarded as a fixture. It
could be argued that the antique mirror in the Queen Victoria is therefore a fixture, as it has been
screwed into a part of the land, meaning Alfie can make a claim of ownership to it. However, physical
attachment of an item is not enough to prove its fixture status. The degree of attachment, as described
by Lord Lloyd in Elitestone Ltd v Morris#, is also important in determining whether an item is a
fixture. For a fixture to exist, the level of attachment must be high. It could be argued that the action of
screwing a mirror into the walls of the Queen Victoria is indeed a very high level of attachment, and
even though items like the mirror may be easy to remove, as proven in Holland v Hodgson#, these
items are still fixtures because of the scale of their attachment. The level of the attachment and the

Animal Farm George Orwell Analysis
On the surface, George Orwell s novel Animal Farm is about a group of neglected animals that
overthrow their owner and take control of their farm. However, under the surface this novel is an
allegory detailing the events of the Russian Revolution. Orwell wrote Animal Farm in the response to
the corruption happening during the Russian Revolution. This was his first political and artistic
purpose. The authors use of anthropomorphism and common diction leads us to believe he intended
the novel to be read by the everyday man or lay person. Orwell wrote this as a warning to the readers
with its central theme that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts. The author uses a detached 3rd
person narrative to describe the events as they unfold in the story. While Orwell uses many stylistic
devices in Animal Farm the two that impact the reader the most while developing the message are
symbolism and irony.Ultimately, Orwell effectively fuses ( or blends) his political and artistic purpose
into a single powerful work of art in his short novel Animal Farm.
George Orwell s essay Why I Write is a small bibliography about his experiences with writing and
how his writing has changed over time. In this he also includes some of the 4 purposes of writing.
Orwell wrote this because he wants to explain the purpose of his writing while also informing them on
the other true purposes of why writers write. The author s essay is intended for upcoming

For instance, the aspect of love playing out excellently is revealed as there is a reverberation between
the speaker s voice and her love of art. Remarkably, this provides the suggestion that love is entirely a
solo endeavor sparked by the psyche. The same psyche makes the audience to forestall loneliness by
showing affection to other people. Nevertheless, through the voice of heroine, Shulamite s speaker
makes the reader understand the aspect of self satisfaction which in most cases outshines the romance,
thus resulting in meretricious love. Perhaps, the ability to speak from a bruised perspective is a
contributing element that makes it possible to attain an erotic heroine. Therefore, the muskeg of lust
has been expounded, making the lovers attain the courage of interacting.
However, it is essential to speak about the poem per se. The Shulamite is described as a heroine in the
poem Song of Songs. Although it is known that Solomon adversely influenced his reputation and
development of Israel, especially more regarding destroying the institution of marriage than any other
person in the history of Israel, the Shulamite woman left the glory of one of the largest kingdoms at
that time to find true love which was quite a risky affair. With her life, she demonstrates the real love
for the right man by searching through the nook and cranny of the city for the love of her life (Bloch
and Bloch 67).

Est1 Task 1 Local Government
Establishing a formal government on the newly secured property called Pequena Isla would take a
great deal of consideration to ensure prosperity in the future.
Local government
Pequena Isla will use a general purpose and perform essential services such as law enforcement, park
services, maintaining roads, human services and public works (Dye MacManus, 2015). To ensure
quality educational services, they will also use a special purpose government to establish and maintain
school districts (Dye MacManus, 2015).
Form of government
A rural county government would make for an excellent political structure while giving the residents
common services. It would also give private businesses opportunities for maintenance, healthcare,
waste disposal services, and recreational services, which would not only bring business and jobs but
more citizens as well. The services our government would provide ... Show more content on

county, but this would give the count the opportunity to hire a knowledgeable and capable person to
manage the county.

Essay About Drinking In Alaska
Drilling in Alaska Instead of the United States drilling for oil in Alaska, we should focus more on
ways to reduce oil consumption, such as researching renewable energy sources. Let s face it the air as
we know it isn t getting any cleaner. We have a lot of pollution in the air; unfortunately oil is an
enormous part of the everyday lives of people living in the United States. Not only does it affect us
here in the United States, but did you ever think about the harm we are making in Alaska? We have
plenty of renewable resources where we can limit the amount of oil. How much are we consuming?
We consume a lot of oil for gas which includes vehicles, airplanes, and etc. There is a lot of
consumption in just in an hour in fact the United States consumes almost 20million barrels of oil per
day, and at a rate of 1.5 million barrels per day from Alaska, 7.5 percent of American oil consumption
could be met for over 20 years. ( Oil Drilling in Alaska 1) How is the oil consumption of the United
States affecting Alaska? While we are benefiting from the oil, what is happening in Alaska? Many
people fail to realize or ignore that we are affecting animals, people and nature with all that pollution
we are causing to Alaska. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Urbanization In Latin America
Ever since the multiplication of the human race, the use of nature s resources has always been a factor.
But when you come around the 1950 s time that is when we humans start to really abuse it. Even if it
is deforestation or urbanization. To green house gases and melting ice caps, humans play a part in it
all. As we continue to not take care of the earth and its resources, it loses its ability to take care of us.
The variety of ways that trees are used is global. Every year over 3 billion trees are cut down per year!
This is called deforestation. The trees that are cut down usually are to clear spaces for farmland,
urbanization, or just for things like paper or furniture. This is a huge problem because ever since the

The level and growth of urbanization differ considerably by region. Among different countries, Latin
American countries have the highest portion of the people that live in the country living in urban
areas. But the south and the east of Asia are the most likely to have the most urbanized area over the
next 30 years. Almost all of future world population growth will be in towns and cities. Urbanization
is a powerful force of human nature because as they move, the climate shifts with them. The more
humans in one area make more pollution in that one area because of all the Homo sapiens living there.
In 1800 only about 2 percent of the world s population lived in urban areas. Until a century ago, urban
areas were some of the unhealthiest places for people to live. The increased density of populations in
urban areas led to the rapid spread of infectious diseases. Consequently, death rates in urban areas
historically were higher than in rural areas. The only way urban areas maintained their existence until
recently was by the continual in migration of rural people. (prb.org,

The Importance Of Real Property
Statutory deferral when real property is transferred to a corporation with FMV higher than the tax
basis.
The law provides three exceptions where the transfer of Real property to a corporation with market
value higher than the basis is not taxable; 1. The transferor owns more than 80% of voting stock of the
corporation immediately after the transfer 2. The transferor and a group, simultaneously transfer real
property to a corporation and own more than 80% of the corporate voting stock immediately after the

IRC § 721, which dictates transfer of property to partnership, is comparable to §351 except it does not
have an 80% or more ownership constraint, you could own 1% of partnership interest the transfer
would still be tax free. In addition, basis rules are like corporate rules upon transfer. The similarity
ends from this point forward, in cases where property is subject to liability, the partner would adjust its
basis in the partnership. Gain, if triggered due to partner s liability decrease, termed deemed
distribution, recognition of this gain could be circumvented by adjusting the transferor s outside basis,
hence no recognition of gain either by the partnership or the partner. In case of liquidating or non
liquidating distribution interplay of sections in partnership law avoids the recognition of gain, and in
both cases basis is adjusted instead. Gain is only triggered when the transferor sells property received
in both liquidating and non liquidating scenarios.

Supporters of the adversary system believe it is the best justice system in the world to balance the
rights of the individuals against the community s expectations that people who break society s laws

of the system. The parties are in control of their own destinies. That is, they must prepare and present
their own cases and accept the responsibility for the consequences. This is an extension of the basic
democratic principle. Truth and conflicting interests is another strength. By giving the parties control

This right was introduced centuries ago in medieval England to protect uneducated peasants from
incriminating themselves when accused of crimes by the Lord of the manor. It is difficult to defend the
rule with a universally literate and educated populace. Many observers contend that defendants should
be forced to give evidence so that the judge or jury can make up their own observations of the
defendant s version of events. Accessibility is another possible reform. Significant reforms need to be
considered to make the court system more accessible to ordinary people. They could include
increasing legal aid funding, allowing acquitted persons to recover their legal and court costs from the
state and setting stricter guidelines and limits on legal costs. The jury is seen as the ultimate protection
of the people against potentially oppressive power of the state. Randomly selected jurors are actively
involved in the administration of justice after an agent of the state has made a criminal allegation
against an individual. The reasons for a jury verdict are intentionally kept secret by law and because
this is done here is very little public scrutiny of the effectiveness of the jury system. The reason I
believe that juries should be compelled to give reasons for their verdicts is that a person who is about

Positive And Unbeneficial Influence On Society
Within this essay I will discuss how social networking sites have both a beneficial and unbeneficial
influence on our way of life and everyday interactions within society. Social networking sites have
increased our overall social interactions as well as provided society with additional ways to build
social connections. However, for these interactions and connections to be advantageous, individuals
within society must be aware of and accept the decrease in privacy that arises with the increased social
interaction, only then will it be a benefit. Although, if individuals within society forget or do not
accept the decrease in privacy and therefore perform acts on social networking sites they may not be
fond of society seeing, this can alter their everyday interactions by making the individuals less social.
It is difficult to pinpoint how society and everyday life has changed until you view how different
everyday interactions are from ten to closer to five years ago. Recent years have shown that more than
anything else, social media has drastically impacted most of societies daily lives due to tools such as
Facebook and Twitter. Social networking communication sites have significantly altered our way of

social networking has reshaped in societies everyday interactions. The youth of society are most

Irish Immigration To Canada Essay
Irish Immigration to Canada
The Irish began immigrating to North America in the 1820s, when the lack of jobs and poverty forced
them to seek better opportunities elsewhere after the end of the major European wars. When the
Europeans could finally stop depending on the Irish for food during war, the investment in Irish
agricultural products reduced and the boom was over. After an economic boom, there comes a bust
and unemployment was the result. Two thirds of the people of Ireland depended on potato harvests as
a main source of income and, more importantly, food. Then between the years of 1845 and 1847, a
terrible disease struck the potato crops. The plague left acre after acre of Irish farmland covered with

When the first ships arrived on the ports of Canada, quarantine shelters that were prepared for
emigrants became so overcrowded that military tents outside shelters were used temporarily. The tents
were often floored with wooden boards and patients were supplied with cots. These tents provided
adequately during fine weather, but provided insufficient protection when it was cold and damp.
Gradually, as more emigrants arrived, even the tents became overcrowded and emigrants were forced
to sleep without shelter on bare ground with no cover except for the clothes they wore. The desperate
need for accommodation prevented their immediate removal from quarantine vessels. Their
confinement on board caused emigrants to contract more disease that was spread further as a result of
lack of ventilation and lack of medical aid on ships as doctors and nurses were desperately needed at
hospitals. The overcrowded sheds were unsuitable for hospital services, and, despite the number of
complaints about the conditions of quarantines, nothing could be done. More hospitals were built, but
remained unfinished, as carpenters refused to complete construction for fear of disease. Yet more

The Pros And Cons Of Bottle Nosed Dolphins
Bottle nosed Dolphins are often regarded as being one of the smartest animal to have existed. Their
existence has been over the past few centuries have been noted and highly complimented for being
close allies of humans. In recent years, over the past few decades, the controversy of keeping dolphins
under human captivity has blown way up and received uncanny amounts of criticism for holding
dolphins in smaller aquariums for human entertainment. The ethicality of bottle nosed dolphin
captivity is frequently questioned, however the quality of life and health of the dolphins is often not
acknowledged to its full potential or received praise for the benefits constant human supervision has
for dolphin life.
Dolphins are social animals, when in the wild they live in pods varying in sizes from 2 40 dolphins.
They develop a social hierarchy with either a head male or female to essentially lead the group. In
comparison, social bonds between dolphins and even their trainers in their tanks have also been found
to have remarkable bonds, and specifically the partnership between the dolphin and its trainer has
been notarized for their mutual respect. However, the human communication is nothing in comparison

What Is The Contribution Of The Functionalist, Conflict...
Sociology is the study of society, it uses its methods in systematic way, and are usually empirical.
Since it is the study of scientific society, human social life, more than aggregate of individuals. In
order to understand any issue related to sociology such as race, gender, caste, culture and marriage etc.
We need to understand its three main perspectives, functionalist perspective, conflict theory and
symbolic interactionism. Functionalist Perspective is all about progress in the society through
harmony, because society has a system which is interconnected Therefore, we need to maintain a state
of balance and social equilibrium for the whole Herbert Spencer, Emile Durkheim, Talcott Parsons
and Robert Merton have largely contributed to functionalism. Conflict Theory views life as
competition, distribution of limited resources, power. Its main criteria is to maintain social order by
dominance and power instead of harmony. Karl Marx is the one to put forward the conflict theory.
Unlike conflict theory and functionalist perspective, symbolic interactionism neither deals with
harmony in the society nor with the society with dominance or power. In fact it deals with the
interaction that includes gestural communication. Max Weber contributed for the symbolic
interactionism. Sociology was first coined in 1780 in France. Then, it was again independently defined
by the one of the founding fathers of sociology, Auguste Comte. Comte was successful in bringing

Rape And The Justice System

4 April. 2016 Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town
Rape is one of the most violent crime known to man. It is also one of the most challenging to bring to
court. Considering that rape and consensual sex can hold the exact same evidence aka DNA evidence.
The book Missoula: Rape and the Justice system in a college town by John Krakauer, goes so far in
depth about the rapes that some women endured while attending the University of Montana. The way
the sexual assaults are described make you feel as if you lived them yourself. Other crimes such as
murder are far more talked than rape. This is because it is typically a crime the targets women. Men
can be raped too. But it doesn t happen near as often. Therefor, there is less media coverage. All over
the globe people have different views on rape. From people stating that women who dress
provocatively deserve rape. To this quote by Jessica Valenti; Now, should we treat women as
independent agents, responsible for themselves? Of course. But being responsible has nothing to do
with being raped. Women don t get raped because they were drinking or took drugs. Women do not get
raped because they weren t careful enough. Women get raped because someone raped them (p.1). The
target of this book is about the rapes committed by the UM football team and/or UM students and how

Abstract
Parental divorce can result in devastating effects on children. These children suffer tremendous long
term consequences as a result of an event that is not their doing. This paper reviews literature and
opinions concerning the long term effects of divorce on adolescents. The paper outlines four major
areas of interest: aggression as a result of parental conflict and the different types associated with boys
and girls, depression in the lives of boys and girls in its various forms, the choice boys and girls make
to marry or not later in life and the possibility of adolescents expressing parental alienation. The

In a study published in 2007, Sarrazin and Cyr claim that aggression is more rampant if the child is
left in the custody of the less dominant parent. If the child identifies him or herself with the less
dominating opposite sex or the dominating same sex parent there could be increased problems of
aggression. If the father is the dominant figure then boys show fewer problems and vice versa for girls
if the mother is the dominant figure [ (Sarrazin amp; Cyr, 2007) ]. The father figure is very important
especially to adolescent boys because when father is absent they react more aggressively than girls [
(Dreman, 2000; Sarrazin amp; Cyr, 2007) ]. Portnoy [ (2006) ] stated that 20 percent of divorced
fathers do not see their children at all during their high school years [ (p. 76) ]. Oftentimes when boys
are placed in the custody of the mother these mothers identify sons with their ex spouse which results
in the child exerting more aggression either towards the custodial parent, non custodial parent or
others [ (Dreman, 2000) ].
Research has identified different types of aggression to include instrumental, reactive, relational,
bullying aggression (Berger, 2008; Merrell, Buchanan, amp; Tran, 2006; Cappella amp; Weinstein,
2006) and social aggression [ (Merrell, Buchanan, amp; Tran, 2006; Cappella amp; Weinstein, 2006) ].

Throughout the ages, music has been very important to religion. Ever since the middle ages, the
religious music told a story of a biblical event. The current day Christian music tells a story about life
and how Jesus Christ can fix the problem because he is all powerful. Oratorio is one example of older
religion music. The current type of religious music is called Contemporary Christian music. There are
a lot of different genres between these two. Oratorio and Contemporary music differ greatly; however,
they both speak about the perfect Jesus Christ.

Handel s oratorio, Messiah, is one of his most well known works. A part of this oratorio is called
Hallelujah Chorus and the music repeats itself a lot. If there is only one word in that section, that one
word is repeated a lot. If there is a phrase in that section, then that phrase will be repeated at least two
times. The overall story of this song is how Jesus will reign forever. The main line said in this song is
hallelujah. On the other hand, each contemporary music piece is very different. Meridith Andrew s
song, You re Not Alone, talks about how when people go through hard times, Jesus Christ is still there.
Only the chorus of this song repeats. Two of the main lines in this song is, You are not alone because I
am here and I am the one who has loved you all your life. Francesca Battistelli wrote the song Free to
be me. She relates to people throughout the whole song by talking about how she has dents in her
fender and rips in her jeans. She uses these to talk about how she is not perfect, but that God loves her
for who she is. One of the main lines in this song is perfection is my enemy. The band called Sidewalk

God still loves us through it all. They have many examples of things we do wrong in life, but the one
that stood out in the song was I am the nail in your wrist, but you love me anyways. Casting Crowns is

A Short Note On Cell Lymphomas And Its Clinical Findings...
Abstract
B cell lymphomas can be identified by many clinical findings with signs, symptoms, and changes in
the tissue. Splenic B cell lymphoma is an invasion of the b cells overtaking the normal white tissue of
the spleen. Through research, the ability to identify these clinical symptoms has been boosted. Splenic
lymphoma with splenomegaly is the classic identifier for B cell lymphomas; they may lead to
hyperslenism or complete removal of the spleen. There are various classifications of B cell
lymphomas which may be directly or indirectly related to the spleen. There are both large and small B
cell lymphomas. Small B cell lymphomas are primarily associated with nodal or extranodal
specifically, and are also associated with the gastrointestinal tract, predominantly in the stomach.
Large B cell lymphomas are associated with hepatitis C virus infection. Both large and small B cell
lymphomas are characterized as splenic lymphomas. Although the spleen is frequently involved in
distributing B cell Non Hodgkin s lymphoma, splenic presentation as the primary or only site of
disease is uncommon. Each has normal associations, risk factors, symptoms and prognoses.
Sonographically, we are able to visualize and identify such lymphomas.

some anecdotes on his experience with ice fishing to ease her stress off. Examining another sub scene
where she trips and falls, we can see his courageous face turning into a face of her new hope for life.
Her face is brightened, her eyes are mesmerized, and her mind is strengthened by the end of this shot

The Rotten Damage of Food Waste
Growing up, children were most likely told to always finish all the food on their plates because

serious the matter actually is and it is expected for adults to know better but here we are in 2016 where
roughly one third of food produced is wasted every year. The problem with this is that about 21,000
people die per day from starvation, but where is that food they need to live? It s rotting in the fridge, it
s being used for contests to see who can eat the fastest, or it s simply been thrown away because the
sun has gone down and people refuse to buy it the following day if it s not new. What s even more
depressing is that most starvation deaths are of children.
The first problem here is poverty. How can someone work when they re so hungry and sick? How can
someone get a job they re too sick to work? It s bad enough that a child would die of starvation, but if
the father or mother dies of starvation, then the whole family could die too due to the fact that there s
no one to go to work. Not many people step up to help the hungry child because they have their own
family to think about. This isn t to say that no one notices starving countries because it s more than
likely that everyone has seen the commercials on tv of children in different countries running around
while the narrator explains how anyone can help by simply donating maybe five dollars.

pet therapy Essays
1. Studies have shown that the children who grow up in homes with animals have a better ability to
show empathy later and as adults. Pets are easy to communicate with, and their body language is much
simpler than a human s. This simple body language allows children to learn to empathize with them, a
skill they can carry with them as they go through life (Holistic Online, 2007).
Every person needs physical touch, no matter what. We are made to thrive off of it. There are some
people that for whatever reason are not comfortable with the physical touch of another human. Many
of these people are those that have been either physically or sexually abused. The use of pet therapy
allows them to have an experience touch in a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communication with people increases mental stimulation. Other things that have been shown to
increase mental stimulation include recalled memories and entertainment that is provided by animals.
In atmospheres that feel depression or like an institution, just the presence of animals can make it
seem much brighter. Additionally, animals increase amusement, laughter, and play for the individuals
around them. These distractions from their current situation can decrease their feelings of isolation or
alienation that go along with their situation (Holistic Online, 2007).
2. The program started at St. Mary s Hospital with just monthly group visits of one dog. This program
has proved effective and beneficial and has evolved to using several dogs three or four times a month.
They still use the dogs in a group setting, but also include individual visits to the patient s room and
bedside (Oakley, Kid Needs). When an occupational therapist uses animals in their therapy the patient,
in this case a child, will be either in their wheelchair or on a therapy mat. If the child is recovering
from a brain injury and is experiencing difficulty grooming themselves due to loss of function in an
arm, the therapist will ask the child to use their weak arm to pet or brush the dog. As the limb grows
stronger, they may add a weight to the wrist to increase their strength. They can also use an adapted
brush if the child is having

Chivalry Code
However, Chaucer not only recognized pride within the hierarchies of the common man, but also
recognized the immorality of the knighthood. Knights were usually born into their class and raised to
serve their lords, thus decorating them with a sense of nobility and pride (McLean and Signman 18).
Because of their role of protection, knights were commanded to adhere to a code of conduct.
According to the book, What Life Was Like In the Age of Chivalry, this code of conduct was
constructed by the king and enforced the idea of a strict sense of honor, morale, and duty (53). This
code of conduct was vital for the morality of the knights and was commonly believed to be a
mechanism used to elevate the status of women; however, according to Natalie Demasi, chivalry isn t
about women at all. It is a code written for knights, for the men. Chivalry s true purpose was meant to
elevate the religious and social status of male knights, not the women. This ... Show more content on

While Dorigen, the wife of the knight Arviragus, laments over her husband s absence, Arviragus is
calm, not inclined to worry about whether anyone had spoken to her of love (Chaucer 469). Arviragus
doesn t waver in his trust, for he believes that Dorigen would never betray his love since he is a noble
knight; however, despite the love they share, Dorigen still barters a deal with another squire for her
love. Chaucer was able to recognize the irony within the knighthood and thus produce a tale in which
the Knight, haughty in his mindset of his social status, did not realize the unfaithfulness of his own
wife. Because the knights were regarded as the ideal warrior and man, pride naturally formed in their
behavior. Therefore, Chaucer portrayed the hypocrisy within their ideals and attacked the knighthood
and its social structure in regards to the falsehood of

Essay On Victor Frankenstein
This is what happened at the end of the Frankenstein story. The creature says Onto the ice, where I
shall build my funeral pyre. I shall rejoice in the torturing flames, and my ashes will be swept into the
sea by the winds. Farewell, Captain and farewell to you, Victor Frankenstein. Doomed as you were,
my agony was still greater than yours. He gets onto that ice that sparkles like shattered diamonds in
the night sky. He says that he will burst into flames because the sun is a fiery ball of fire, but the chill
of the sea water keeps him crisp. Young frankenstein floats away into the distance. He floats for what
seems like an eternity, he finally makes it to an island and he finds something there, he finds a young
fragile, beautiful woman. He spends what seems like a decade with her so he decides to make her his
wife. The ring he had carried with him for so long was absolutely beautiful, he s waited so long to
share this with the one he loves. The rock on that ring was worth enough to buy a magnificent house.
They soon come to the conclusion that they could have babies and had conceived triplets.1 beautiful
baby girl and 2 handsome baby boys, It was the longest 9 months of both of their lives. The babies
started out as sweet little angels but things soon made a drastic change. As they grew they became
more and more rebellious, Not listening to their parents. They started acting out of control not

The Decade Known as The Great Depression
The decade known as the Great Depression was an era filled with both hardship and tribulation.
Historians continue to debate the root causes of the collapse of the stock market which led the country
into depression. Other deride the ineptitude of the Canadian government s response to the crisis. At
any rate, the Dirty Thirties was a period of time unlike any other. While those who suffered through it
are largely gone, the memory of those dark days remains to this day.
Firstly, there are many factors that contributed to making the Great Depression start. Over production
and expansion was a problem because almost every industry was expanding in the 1920 s. Industries

All the ranks on the social class had dropped. The poor became poorer than the poor. Finding work
was sporadic at best and it was impossible for men to pay for their homes which led to people having
to move into their cars, piano boxes and anything they could possibly find shelter in. The Great
Depression got farmers the worst as severe dust storms hit the prairies. Temperature raised immensely
in 1936 making wind storms hotter and drier, and with no rain there was no crops. Western prairies
became almost completely dependent on the export of wheat but grass hoppers and plant diseases
cause the last few crops destroyed. Farmers had to sell their farms as debts raised because they couldn
t afford their families as the drought prolonged. The school boards had to decrease the number of
teachers and increase the amount of students. Even marriage was effected, while Canada experienced
the Great Depression, many couples refrained from marrying due to economic uncertainty and high
unemployment. These causes of the Depression impacted the everyday Canadian.
Moreover, the Canadian government took many measures to pull Canada out of the Depression they
tried, monthly relief rates, vouchers, governments money, relief camps, buying Canadian, make work
projects and tariffs. Monthly relief rates were when people would have to go to a welfare office to
prove that they were unemployed too get a certain amount of money

Monday was the second time in three years that the U.S. Supreme court rejected a challenge to the 2012 legislation putting a ban on gay conversion therapy in California. • 3. Beowulf and Grendel Essay Beowulf and Grendel Beowulf and Grendel are actually the same stories in the fact that they are based on the same epic Beowulf. Beowulf , that is told of here is translated by Kevin Crossley Holland, and there are many different translations which makes Beowulf the epic so interchangeable. Although Beowulf and Grendel seem very similar they do have many differences as well. Reading the two stories back to back gives you the impression of how many differences there are. For example, Beowulf is written from an outsider s point of view. Grendel is written from Grendel s point of view. This changes the whole perception of the book. The stories actually differ in ways that make your feelings change about the plot. These two stories were written during the Anglo Saxon period. Anglo Saxon was also the time of Medieval England. Each story gives a good representation of this time. It is necessary to learn about this period in order to get the full impact of these stories. To understand that Medieval England was very different compared to the current time is very important before reading the two stories. In the Anglo Saxon time they had no rights for animals, they would simply slaughter them for all the food they could eat. In today s time there are animal rights. For example, there are animal rights activists. They believe that animals should not be killed for food or sport. Today s societal views would have been laughed at from the point of view of the medieval world. Today we have the luxury of being able to drive down the street, run into the grocery store, and purchase whatever food we need. The Anglo Saxon s did not have cars nor were there grocery stores. As for the Anglo Saxon s, they had to get their own food whatever way possible. That meant they had to go out and kill animals for their meat, have their own gardens in order to have. The medieval period was one of wars, fighting, and killing. In that time people were killing other people without the consequences of jail time like there is today. • 4. Stradivari Analysis If Stradivari would have ever needed a virtuoso to test and analyze the secret properties of his divine violins, the brilliance, sweetness of the most precious instruments ever crafted by human kind, by human hand, I know who that person is. She lives among us now in the 21st century. As is said, she sleeps and breathes every musical vibration her mortal existence and soul can possibly conjure up. She is the one. The correct one, the virtuoso born in heaven. The one he never met. But her mind was forever living in the past with those chosen few composer artists, surviving in the long past age of classical masters who are the greatest musicians, and will always be the greatest composers of all time. She will never be content because she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He waited until the concert ended and then made himself known to the young and perfect maestro. Meeting the young virtuoso caused an irreconcilable experience of mixed emotions which he had never before experienced and he certainly did not understand now. Stradivari spoke in reluctance and hopeful anticipation at once. He said, Embrace the vision of this solo instrument, young man. I made this violin, yes. This is the finest instrument I could have ever crafted and the finest my family tradition has ever crafted. All that be as it may, without you this object is nothing but a mere stone. Take this and fill the ears of humanity with the celestial sounds of the Godly universe. With that, Stradivari left the grandiose concert hall feeling so fulfilled that he had at least done something which would lift the spirit of humanity for centuries beyond. For that reason, every remaining day of his life he would ponder the moment he gifted that precious violin to the boy. You see, Stradivari knew that no matter what, the violin which was now the boy s instrument would create and inspire, and forever empower the sentiments of music destined to change the universe ... The Domination Of Merchants And Land Lawyers Essay Montejano Reading: The Domination of Merchants and Land Lawyers David Montejano approaches the incorporation of Texas from the least romantic and colorful perspective of the merchants and land lawyers , noting that these capital based and export oriented... frontier folk were the region s principal architects (15). From strategic incorporation of Anglos into Mexican landed elite to the political exclusion of Texas Mexicans, and from the development of commercial agriculture to driving Mexicans from their land through coercion and fraud, both Anglo merchants and land lawyers become abrasive actors in the Texan narrative. Driven by manifest destiny and a superiority complex, Anglos routinely denied Mexicans, who were the original land owners and inhabitants of the region, economic, political and social rights, eventually leading up to the modern state of Texas. With the Rio Grande as an attractive opportunity for trade from Sante Fe and southward, many attempts to tap into the potential proved unsuccessful including the use of steamboats. Instead, the lower Rio Grande and the port of Matamoros became a point of much contention since silver bullion, lead, wool, his and beef tallow were produced in the region. The attempts to commercialize the Rio Grande peaked during the early 1800s, when, shortly after, two major US military expeditions ensued in attempts to claim the territory. History Of Desert Storm In the early morning hours of January 18, 1991, the first PATRIOT missile engaged an Iraqi ballistic missile, changing the future of United States Air Defense Artillery. Throughout the initial days of Desert Storm, United States PATRIOT batteries defended the countries of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Israel from a barrage of Iraqi ballistic missile. This began and solidified United States alliances with Middle Eastern countries that remain to this day. Looking at the era surrounding Desert Storm, one can see the accelerated development of PATRIOT and US Air Defense through failures, successes, and lessons learned. During the Iraq / Iran War, with United States support, the Iraqi military became the 4th largest military in the world. • 17. Wildness Of Minoans Essay But was it a religious ceremony to show mankind s dominance over nature? Shapland s article beats back this theory that bull leaping was a way for humans to assert their dominance, strength, and power over wild bulls. He believes Minoans did not bull leap and create representations of these leaps due to the tension between man and nature. Nowadays, people have a tendency to reduce human animal relations to human symbolism; Shapland calls modern scholars to have a broader view of bull leaping than of something merely portraying the need of mankind to conquer the wildness of bulls and the larger world. Moreover, much of the Minoans other art does not reflect this tension; rather, for scenes depicting marine life, for example, there are aquatic creatures, not men with nets and hooks trying to catch them; Minoan art is, for the most part, peaceful. Perhaps, then, bull leaping was something celebrated not because it was man conquering beast, but man working harmoniously alongside the beast. Minoan culture is steeped in mystery, and scholarly theories swirl around the limited, archeology based knowledge we have of these ancient Cretans. The ancient world is a slick and slippery place for historians due to the lack of records, and we must ultimately admit that we do not and cannot know the truth of those worlds. We ... Comparatively, Figure 1 (zeroth reaction order) has a best fit line of f(x) = 0.00210(x) + 1.3426 with a R^2 value of 0.9094, and Figure 3 (second reaction order) has a best fit line of f(x) = 0.00550x+0.2716 with a R^2 value of 0.9559. So, my data suggests that Figure 2, rate law 1, is the most linear, and hence the correct order of reaction can be assumed first order with respect to Bromophenol blue. Also it is important to consider the spectrometers used in this lab, which had capped out above an initial absorbance of 2 and higher in the lab, which skewed all future readings since it was impossible to record from that value, which led to inaccurate readouts for the absorbance values. A major source of error was that a different volumetric pipette was used to measure the initial absorbance and in Trial 1a than the micropipette used in the other four trials. Though both volumetric pipettes were 1 mL, the possible miniscule differences between the two glassware could have created a significant difference in the tiny volumes. The experiment could have been improved by use of a UV/Vis rather than a Spec, which could improve the precision and accuracy of the measured absorbances and thus decrease the uncertainty. Additionally, measuring the absorbances for a longer duration of time so that a significant deviation from linearity could be observed could decrease the uncertainty in the reaction order with respect to Bromophenol blue. The book is layered in a way that each section focuses on a different aspect of the digestive system. • 20. The Case Of Alfie And Peggy The fundamental issue in the case of Alfie and Peggy is whether the items in question are a part of the land (fixtures) that can be acquired by Alfie in the convenyancing process, or whether they are an item of personal property (chattels) that belong in the hands of the seller Peggy . According to the Latin maxim quicquid plantatur solo, solo cedid # , Alfie can claim ownership rights to the items in question, if they are attached to the soil of the land. In other words, the items must all be fixtures rather than chattels, for Alfie to seek ownership. At face value, if an item is physically attached or annexed to the land, it is regarded as a fixture. It could be argued that the antique mirror in the Queen Victoria is therefore a fixture, as it has been screwed into a part of the land, meaning Alfie can make a claim of ownership to it. However, physical attachment of an item is not enough to prove its fixture status. The degree of attachment, as described by Lord Lloyd in Elitestone Ltd v Morris#, is also important in determining whether an item is a fixture. For a fixture to exist, the level of attachment must be high. It could be argued that the action of screwing a mirror into the walls of the Queen Victoria is indeed a very high level of attachment, and even though items like the mirror may be easy to remove, as proven in Holland v Hodgson#, these items are still fixtures because of the scale of their attachment. The level of the attachment and the physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Animal Farm George Orwell Analysis On the surface, George Orwell s novel Animal Farm is about a group of neglected animals that overthrow their owner and take control of their farm. However, under the surface this novel is an allegory detailing the events of the Russian Revolution. Orwell wrote Animal Farm in the response to the corruption happening during the Russian Revolution. This was his first political and artistic purpose. The authors use of anthropomorphism and common diction leads us to believe he intended the novel to be read by the everyday man or lay person. Orwell wrote this as a warning to the readers with its central theme that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts. The author uses a detached 3rd person narrative to describe the events as they unfold in the story. While Orwell uses many stylistic devices in Animal Farm the two that impact the reader the most while developing the message are symbolism and irony.Ultimately, Orwell effectively fuses ( or blends) his political and artistic purpose into a single powerful work of art in his short novel Animal Farm. George Orwell s essay Why I Write is a small bibliography about his experiences with writing and how his writing has changed over time. In this he also includes some of the 4 purposes of writing. Orwell wrote this because he wants to explain the purpose of his writing while also informing them on the other true purposes of why writers write. Apart from that, it should be noted that the poem serves as a dialogue between a reader and the speaker. Nevertheless, through the voice of heroine, Shulamite s speaker makes the reader understand the aspect of self satisfaction which in most cases outshines the romance, thus resulting in meretricious love. I am personally drawn to the fact that the counselor and student collaborate to develop solutions and empower the student to draw on their own ideas to uncover their own potential to solve the problem. • 41. Analysis Of The Scene Of Titanic James Cameron directed and co produced Titanic in 1997. It is one of the epic tragical romantic films of all time. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jack Dawson (hero) and Kate Winslet plays Rose DeWitt Bukater (heroine). Titanic tells the evergreen love story of Rose and Jack. Rose is a first class passenger, but her family is going through financial crises which her mother Ruth is trying to resolve and retain their weakening high class status through her marriage with Cal Hockley, her fiancé. Agitated over this marriage she attempts suicide by jumping off the stern of the ship. Jack, a poor painter, discourages her from suicide and saves her life. Rose s distraught for her marriage with fiancé is very evident in her facial expression as she runs to the stern and looks off to the ocean. When Jack enters the scene, it is apparent that he is nervous; but, as he approaches Rose, his face reflects calm but courage. While attempting to discourage her from suicide, Jack realizes she is actually very disturbed, but afraid to jump.In this case, he shares with her some anecdotes on his experience with ice fishing to ease her stress off. Examining another sub scene where she trips and falls, we can see his courageous face turning into a face of her new hope for life. Her face is brightened, her eyes are mesmerized, and her mind is strengthened by the end of this shot leaving audience enchanted. The setting is yet another critical component playing a more active role in this scene. Choosing the stern to be the best place for her to commit suicide is where the vitality of this set comes to play. Director James Cameron chose this particular location and the hand rails for her to accidentally trip was to create a dramatic helpless effect which he knew will trigger the minds of his audience. This significant setting is at the very end of the ship where no one usually wanders at night. It is quite and peaceful. In such a setting where the only two people to stand the stern are the two main characters when Jack (a complete stranger at this point) walks in ready to give his life to save her s leaves him a heroic charm of ... • 42. The Rotten Damage Of Food Waste The Rotten Damage of Food Waste Growing up, children were most likely told to always finish all the food on their plates because somewhere else in the world, another child was starving. Most kids never really understand how serious the matter actually is and it is expected for adults to know better but here we are in 2016 where roughly one third of food produced is wasted every year. The problem with this is that about 21,000 people die per day from starvation, but where is that food they need to live? It s rotting in the fridge, it s being used for contests to see who can eat the fastest, or it s simply been thrown away because the sun has gone down and people refuse to buy it the following day if it s not new. What s even more depressing is that most starvation deaths are of children. The first problem here is poverty. How can someone work when they re so hungry and sick? How can someone get a job they re too sick to work? It s bad enough that a child would die of starvation, but if the father or mother dies of starvation, then the whole family could die too due to the fact that there s no one to go to work. Not many people step up to help the hungry child because they have their own family to think about. This isn t to say that no one notices starving countries because it s more than likely that everyone has seen the commercials on tv of children in different countries running around while the narrator explains how anyone can help by simply donating maybe five dollars. ... Other things that have been shown to increase mental stimulation include recalled memories and entertainment that is provided by animals. In atmospheres that feel depression or like an institution, just the presence of animals can make it seem much brighter. Additionally, animals increase amusement, laughter, and play for the individuals around them. These distractions from their current situation can decrease their feelings of isolation or alienation that go along with their situation (Holistic Online, 2007). 2. • 45. Chivalry Code However, Chaucer not only recognized pride within the hierarchies of the common man, but also recognized the immorality of the knighthood. Knights were usually born into their class and raised to serve their lords, thus decorating them with a sense of nobility and pride (McLean and Signman 18). Because of their role of protection, knights were commanded to adhere to a code of conduct. According to the book, What Life Was Like In the Age of Chivalry, this code of conduct was constructed by the king and enforced the idea of a strict sense of honor, morale, and duty (53). This code of conduct was vital for the morality of the knights and was commonly believed to be a mechanism used to elevate the status of women; however, according to Natalie Demasi, chivalry isn t about women at all. It is a code written for knights, for the men. Chivalry s true purpose was meant to elevate the religious and social status of male knights, not the women. This ... While Dorigen, the wife of the knight Arviragus, laments over her husband s absence, Arviragus is calm, not inclined to worry about whether anyone had spoken to her of love (Chaucer 469). Arviragus doesn t waver in his trust, for he believes that Dorigen would never betray his love since he is a noble knight; however, despite the love they share, Dorigen still barters a deal with another squire for her love. Chaucer was able to recognize the irony within the knighthood and thus produce a tale in which the Knight, haughty in his mindset of his social status, did not realize the unfaithfulness of his own wife. Because the knights were regarded as the ideal warrior and man, pride naturally formed in their behavior. Therefore, Chaucer portrayed the hypocrisy within their ideals and attacked the knighthood and its social structure in regards to the falsehood of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
