Effects Of Obesity On The Food Industry
1. Introduction
1.1. Motivation Air Filled Emulsions
Obesity is one of the biggest evils of society nowadays and it is a result of sedentary lifestyle
combined with unbalanced eating habits (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2011). The dissemination of chronic
diseases caused by it, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some types of cancer, requires an
urgent need to reduce dietary fat (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2009). Also, the reluctance of the public to
change their eating habits impedes the problem resolution. An essential approach to this problem that
the food industry have been looking can be the elaboration and production of low fat products that
resemble the full fat versions according to sensory behaviour, taste and perceived indulgence (Norton,
Moore, Fryer, 2007). Air bubbles designated to act like oil droplets in terms of size and physical
properties is an alternative to the low fat food production (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2009).
Some findings strengthen that approach, like the contribution of microbubbles for the improvement of
a range of desirable properties, including texture, digestibility and flavour intensity (Campbell, Webb,
Pondiella, Niranjan,, 1999; Kilcast Clegg, 2002; Lau Dickinson, 2005; Wildmoser, Scheiwiller,
Windhab, 2004), that are essential during processing of some aliments like ice cream and whipped
cream. Microbubbles can facilitate mastication and promote enzyme accessibility and enhance flavour
delivery (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2011). Nevertheless,

Summary Of Phaedo By Plato
In the book, Phaedo by Plato, he discusses the immortality and divinity of the soul, and uses the
philosophical theoria to prove that such a thing exists. Plato spends a lot of time trying to prove the
idea to his fellow philosophers the divinity of the soul. Yet, in the book In Defense of Philosophy by
Josef Pieper, he talks about how philosophy is not about finding an exact truth, but merely seeking to
get close enough to it. This shows a clear contradiction between Plato s belief that a soul is divine and
continues to live on and Pieper s thoughts on what true philosophy is, because he creates dialogue that
clearly shows influence of his religious background that takes away from the philosophical discourse.
It is due to this, Pieper would not agree with Plato in his interpretation on the divinity of the human
soul.
Plato uses Socrates Argument from Opposites to show that a living being cycles from being dead to
being alive, but this falls flat because we must rely on the idea that there is another realm for were the
dead souls must reside. Let s consider it, perhaps, in this way: do the souls of human beings exist in
Hades when they have died, or do they not? (Plato 17) This shows that their belief in an immortal soul
requires that one believe that there is the existence of a place called Hades, without any other
interpretation from either Socrates or Cebes. Piper would disagree with this idea because it relies on a
religious belief, which can be related to the idea of the modern Christian Philosopher. The following
reflections will nonetheless consider third only those situations in which the philosopher is also
explicitly a believer who openly accepts the truth of a sacred tradition and consciously accepts the
truth of a sacred tradition and consciously tries to be aware of it in his reasoning. (Pieper 112) Here
Pieper talks about how a philosopher must be careful of his faith and make sure it does not affect his
reasoning, which is what is happening to Socrates and Cebes as they reason their way through the
existence of the soul. They attribute a piece of their reasoning to a potentially mythical place that the
current Greek religion believes in, without considering if there are alternatives to such

Racial Tension In Strange Fruit
According to the NAACP article in the late 19th century racial tension grew throughout the United
States. More of this tension was noticeable in the Southern parts of the United States. Lynchings were
becoming a popular way of resolving some of the anger that whites had in relation to the free blacks.
From 1882 1968, 4,743 lynching s occurred in the United States. Of these people that were lynched
3,446 were black ( History of Lynchings, 2017).Many poets and writers took those tragedy s and
decided to put their feelings into writing. Bitter Fruit later turned into Strange Fruit, was written by a
Jewish high school English teacher from the Bronx and a member of the American Communist Party.
This astonishing writers name is Abel Meeropol. In 1937, Meeropol saw a photograph of Thomas
Shipp and Abram Smith being lynched in the South. The two gentleman was accused of rape towards
a white lady and was sent to jail falsely for it. A number of people broke into the jail with
sledgehammers to get the two men to beat and lynch them. Meeropol decided to write a poem about
the disbelief that came across his eyes. Meeropol wrote the poem as a protest poem. Meeropol recalled
how the photograph haunted me for days and inspired the writing of the poem ( Strange Fruit, 2017).
He wanted to expose the American racism basing it on the lynching of African Americans. Meeropols
work was so stunning it brought major attention to the New York lawmakers. The New York

Hamlet Polonius Meddling
The character Polonius in William Shakespeare s play Hamlet meddles in all affairs from his family to
the royal family. Polonius is always interfering in other people s lives when he shouldn t be very
involved at all. The Author shows Polonius s meddling in the quote, Observe his inclinations in
yourself (2:1). In this quote, we see that Polonius is meddling in his son s life when he is heading off
to college. Polonius sends his servant to spy on his son while he is in college and to spread rumors
about his son that would give him a bad name. Polonius then justifies doing this by stating that it
would help his son grow stronger by learning how to deal with people who look at you differently.
This demonstrates meddling by Polonius

The Collapse Of The Ottoman Empire
Introduction
The Ottoman empire was a mighty empire that ruled form 1299 1918. With its humble beginnings in
the 12th century to become the most powerful empire in Europe the 16th century under the caliph
Suleiman the magnificent, however like all empires the Ottomans reached a stage of stagnation.
Although the Ottomans collapsed at the end of WW1, the main factors contributing the collapse begun
in the 17th century where the Ottoman empire s gradual process of decline started.
This essay will explore the most notable factors that contributed to the collapse of the Ottoman
empire. Beginning with the political situation in the 17th century and the attempted solution to solve
the issue of succession which at times crippled the empire. The economic decline which went parallel
with the political one with the empire no longer able to attain its wealth form the military expeditions
and the influx of silver from Europe casing the inflation issues leading to the capitalisations with the
European nations. The factor of the religious and social situation in the 19th century and its effects on
the central government and the empires minorities. The rise of nationalism throughout Europe which
made its way to the Ottoman empire ensuring its destruction.
Paragraph 1
One of the major factors that contributed to the collapse of the ottoman Empire was the issue of
succession within the empire. Since the birth of the Ottoman Empire, the sultan was the central figure
having to make decisions in all aspects of the empire from military, economic and political decisions.
The Ottoman empire was a dynasty so whenever the sultan had died one of the sons will take charge
of the throne, the sons of the sultan will serve as governors within the empire gaining the required
experience needed to take the pivotal role of the sultan. in most cases the successor was chosen by the
sultan before his death however when this was not done it caused some problems as to who will take
charge of the throne. After the father had died often the sons would fight bloody civil wars as to who
will take power crippling the empire.
Seeking to solve this devastating problem Sultan Ahmad I (Sultan from 1603 1617) proposed solution.

Middle Childhood. Middle Childhood Is Where My Passion
Middle Childhood
Middle childhood is where my passion for students is. Middle childhood ranges from 6 11 years old
kids. A brief description of what middle childhood is, The school years are marked by improved
athletic abilities; more logical thought processes; mastery of basic literacy skills; advances in self
understanding, morality, and friendship; and the beginnings of peer group membership (Berk, 2017, p.
6). I find this age group relevant to my future because I want to pursue a career in elementary school
teaching or counseling. Every Sunday at my church I work in the elementary age kids group. I lead
about an average of thirty kids in worship and small groups. Even though sometimes they are hard to
handle, I see myself being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are three major features that I would say middle childhood contains. The three features are
physical, cognitive, and social. Physical is based on body growth and nutrition. Cognitive deals with
how students excel in different ways at school. Social means how students interact with schoolmates
and how they respond. They all are different aspects of a child, but they connect with different places
in their lives.
Physical growth, during this age period, continues at a slow pace like it did in early childhood, but
now health issues can start to occur. Nutrition is a key concept in a school age child s life. Today, 32
percent of U.S. children and adolescents are overweight. (Berk, 2017, p. 228). This is an eye opener
that something needs to change in children s nutrition at home and at school.
The cognitive features of a child through middle childhood is just as important. Piaget s cognitive
developmental theory is described as, Development occurs as the brain grows and children exercise
their innate drive to discover reality in a generally stimulating environment. (Berk, 2017, p. 22). This
theory helps people look at individual differences. There are four different sections that are looked at
when dealing with cognitive development, those are conservation, classification, seriation, and spatial
reasoning. These four things separate children by their strengths.
During middle childhood, social understanding, to me, is

Indecision In The Lovesong Of J Alfred Prufrock
In his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, author T.S. Eliot demonstrates that indecision often
leads to feelings of resentment. For example, when one dwells on the possible risks of an action rather
than deciding to take action, he often later resents himself for not at least attempting to do what he
wanted. In Eliot s poem, Prufrock s fear of being misunderstood keeps him from asking a simple
question: If one, settling a pillow by her head Should say: That is not what I meant at all; That is not it,
at all. ... would it have been worth it, after all, (96 99) poses Prufrock. Yes, it would be worth it to ask
the question. Because being misunderstood does not have any physical or lasting consequences,
Prufrock has little to lose by asking the question he so badly wants to ask. ... Show more content on

Prufrock exemplifies this aspect when he begins to blame others for his inability to inquire and thus
starts to resent them. He imagines that the nearby ladies are poking fun at him, keeping him from
asking the question: They will say: But how his hair is growing thin / ...They will say: But how his
arms and legs are thin! (41 44). Prufrock has no proof that the ladies are truly judging him in this way.
However, he resents them because his imagining that they are thinking such things hinders his
confidence and keeps him from making a decision to ask the question. The ladies are surely not giving
Prufrock any compliments, so why not make them take the blame for his impotence? However, while
Prufrock allows the women to have such an effect on his situation, the women are not even thinking
about him. They are only worried with their own affairs as they come and go talking of Michelangelo
(35), not once mentioning J. Alfred Prufrock. Thus, Prufrock s resentment for the women is brought
on solely by his own ineptitude and

1) How does Lizzie (Christina Ricci) describe her depression?
Lizzie describes her depression in various ways to herself and others. She says that she felt as if she
was, drowned by some kind of black wave. This wave overpowered her. Also, she talked about how
she was always exhausted when she woke up, because her mind was running wild all night; she had
clear sleep deprivation. She shows the depression symptom of suicidal thoughts when she says, I m in
more trouble than I m worth. With this, we can apply that she does not feel as though she is worth
anything in this life at this moment. Continuing, she describes her depression more so as I m falling
and I m dead [inside]. We can truly see the sadness that is inside her.
2) How do Lizzie s friends and family react to her depression?
Lizzie s friends and family reacted in various ways to her depression. The most common trend that
seemed to happen was that everyone wanted to help her, but they did not know how. One instant that
her friends helped her was when they brought her to therapy. But her friends abandoned her
throughout the movie, because they were worried and got upset with her behavior. Her mom was very
worried about her and cried a lot. However, her Mom did tell her that she didn t have to change herself
at all. All in all, the reactions ranged from isolation to supportive.

Spanish Evangelization
The act of evangelization by the Spanish in Colonial Latin America cannot be seen as just that,
evangelization, but as an act of expanding their territories. Though some of the Spanish did have true
intentions of saving the natives, who were seen as heathens for their evil practices, most of them had
far more lucrative reasons for evangelizing and colonizing the New World. The conquistadores came
to the New World mainly to expand their personal wealth, which in Spain many did not have much of.
Those who sought to evangelize the natives took advantage of the benefits that came from tagging

You can contact those users who left your account to win them back as your valuable followers. But
this all is possible only when you get an access to recognize which user has exactly left your account.
That s why Instagram Unfollow tracker is important.
The most basic way to check who has unfollowed you is to manually check profiles of each user and
examine if he/she is still following you or not. This surely takes much time to get completed and
obviously could make anybody insane.
That s why you have to take assistance from an external source.
But why Insta does not Provide any notifications to its users for the same? Though, Insta has not
declared any reason precisely but as per my assumption, it s one of the Insta s ways for sentiment
consolation. Where it does not notify you about who has unfollowed you, it also does not notify others
that you have unfollowed them, providing users the more flexibility to unfollow each other. As
following back is among a distinctive tenets of social networking sites.
The only fundamental fact is, Instagram s new set of rules for third party app interventions do not
allow any application to integrate this feature. Read Instagram s Permission Review for submission of

The Battle Of The Spanish Civil War
It s safe to say that, even if someone claims to know little to nothing about Spain s history, the names
Franco, Hitler, and Mussolini ring a bell in their mind. Simply being able to recognize these names
proves some knowledge on the subject of the Spanish Civil War, lasting from 1936 to 1939. For those
who are unsure as to what qualifies as a civil war, dictionary.com defines it as, a war between parties,
factions, or inhabitants of different regions within the same nation . In the case of the Spanish Civil
War, the fight was between the Spanish republican government and the Nationalist military.
Representative of the impeding power struggle between extremists in support of fascism and
communism, the war began on July 18th, 1936 as an uprising by several Spanish officers. This
uprising would spark the three year Spanish civil war that ultimately resulted in a 40 year dictatorship.
The left wing was referred to as the loyalists and the republicans. The groups that supported and
comprised the republican cause were workers, peasants and trade unions, the Spanish government, and
the three factions, the socialists, communists, and anarchists. In addition to these groups, the
International Brigades, including the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, which was made of American
volunteers willing to travel to aid the republican cause in the civil war, the Soviet Union, and other
European Democracies, supported the republic. Many foreign artists and intellectuals such as Earnest

Rhetorical Devices In The Convergence Of The Twain By...
The construction of the Titanic started on March 31, 1909 and finished on May 31, 1911. During the
process, constructors made sure to make the Titanic as attractive as possible, accessorizing it with
many iconic features such as the ship s grand staircase and its promenade deck. Many people at the
time believed that the Titanic would never sink, therefore naming it the Unsinkable ship after it has set
sail. Unfortunately, the unsinkable ship collided with an iceberg on April 14, 1912, claiming the lives
of 1,500 passengers. As a result, the Titanic broke into two and sunk, leaving behind its legacy.
Thomas Hardy provides a poem that acknowledges the sinking of the Titanic. Unlike the many similar
reactions of grief and sorrow that the people had, Hardy approaches the event differently. In the poem,
The Convergence of the Twain, Thomas Hardy uses a variety of rhetorical devices to express his
disdain for the vanity of humans during the first half of the poem and to explain that fate s work
resulted in the outcome of the Titanic during the second half of the poem.
Throughout the first five stanzas of the poem, Hardy utilizes allusion, juxtaposition, and alliteration to
emphasize the idea that the excessive pride of humans is useless and it has led to the downfall of the
Titanic. Therefore, Hardy provides insight on the vanity of those that built the ship. He describes the
people as the Pride of Life. The description alludes to the book of John in the Christian Bible.

Why Are Factory Farming Bad
Industrialized farming is a constant in today s world. Every hour of every day, these farms are
cranking out thousands of pounds of meat, eggs, dairy, etc. Many claim it is quick and efficient. While
factory farming does get the job done, per se, the job is not done without causing devastation.
Environmentally, these farms have caused severe amounts of damage. They are responsible for thirty
seven percent of the world s methane emissions, having a huge impact on climate change. Methane
emissions are at least twenty times more hazardous to the climate than carbon dioxide emissions
(Good). Farmers that manage and own industrial farms, and their customers, face dangers as well.

Said risks come in all shapes and sizes. From economic to health problems, CAFOs are a source of all
sorts of impending issues. One of the many dilemmas people face is the danger of antibiotics.
Antibiotics are force fed to the animals that reside on industrialized farms to promote faster growth.
What many people do not realize is that these antibiotics are in the meat they are eating, and therefore
causing an almost invisible, yet extremely detrimental health risk. The use of antibiotics in animals
has been seemingly harmless until recently when medical professionals discovered that humans are
building up a resistance to antibiotics. Antibiotics have been around for centuries, and they have been
working up until recent years. Humans have begun to develop resistance to antibiotics that fight
deadly diseases (NIAID). The unnatural feeds, hormones, and excessive quantities of antibiotics used
on factory farms put the human population at risk for chronic disease, obesity, and drug resistant
bacteria, and pose the threat of major zoonotic disease outbreaks. The previous quote barely skims the
surface of the dangers antibiotic resistance is creating. On average, ninety million Americans die from
diseases antibiotics once could have defended them from, but they had developed resistance to such
antibiotics (Farm Sanctuary). Antibiotics are crucial to human life; building resistance to them must

Malcolm Little was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 19, 1925, into a family of eight children. His
father, Earl Little, was a baptist minister whose outspoken push for civil rights made him a target to
constant death threats. When Malcolm was only four years old, the family s home was burned down.
Two years later, as the threats grew more severe, Earl Little s dead body was found in the street. The
police ruled both cases as accidents, but Malcolm concluded that they were related to the Black
Legion, a terrorist group of white supremacists. Earl s death took a huge toll the Little family. With no
steady source of income, they relied on welfare. Malcolm s mother was taken over with devastation,
so much so that she was eventually admitted into a mental institution, sending all eight Little kids to
foster homes with conditions hardly better than before.
At a much too early age, Malcolm understood his role as a negro living in the early eighteenth century.
Malcolm was an intelligent kid who constantly focused on his education. When asked what he wanted
to do in the future, he told his teacher he wanted to be a lawyer. His teacher responded with pitiful
laughter, telling him that his goal was unreasonable, for black people simply weren t good enough to
be lawyers. Malcolm recalled the sheer change in heart he experienced that day. He accepts

Racial Zoning Research Paper
Distinguished in chapters three and four of The Color of Law, racial zoning is a way for organizations
to manipulate and control what neighborhoods African Americans and other ethnic minority groups
reside in. Due to this, many of African Americans viewed racial zoning as a serious threat to their well
being in the United States. With the help of Jim Crow laws, exclusionary zoning, and the On Your
Own Home campaign, banks and real estate agents had provoked economic discrimination towards
various ethnic minority groups. Furthermore, through the concepts of dysfunctionalism, social
inequality, latent functionalism, and Eurocentrism as seen in The Real World, racial zoning has
negatively affected African Americans from breaking out of what the world considers them to be.

communities, but in suburban regions. The reasoning for this stem back to the overall goal of keeping
African Americans separate from whites. Now, however, without banks and real estate agents, urban
communities do not have the same privilege as someone from a suburban household. This is viewed
through the concepts of social inequality and Eurocentrism because of the unwillingness of whites;
there is an unequal distribution of prestige regarding African American rights. In conclusion, African
Americans were targeted for the ideology of racial zoning. Jim Crow laws, exclusionary zoning, and
the On Your Own Home campaign, all helped support this ideology and furthermore established what
concepts simulated these policies. Dysfunctionalism, social inequality, latent functionalism, and

rare carcinomas resembling Wilms tumor, with as few cases as 1 case in the time period of 6 months
are also discussed.
Conclusion: The study shows that in general, cancer is extra prevalent in poor socioeconomic status,
population and those patients that live in rural areas. Further study should be carried out to observe the
effects of other variables reminiscent of screening, knowledge to pursue medical attention, the time to
search for medical attention, implementation of preventive methods, environmental factors should be
taken into account and the geographical area should be increased so that the study can be carried on a
larger scale.

Phaedra And Theseus
I think that mostly the main characters in Greek tragedies don t deserve what happens to them, as their
fortunes have already been told by the Gods, but for some of their own actions condemned
themselves. Firstly Phaedra s feelings where controlled by a powerful and vengeful God, Phaedra had
no choice in the feelings she felt for Hippolytus, and the God had made them so strong that she could
almost not control them. She had started to starve herself out to protect her name, and the name of her
children. She would rather die and keep her name intact than succumb to her feeling and have her
name be worth less than dirt. Because of this I don t think it s anywhere near fair to say that Phaedra
deserved what had happened to her. However what she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His actions might have been because of godly influence, but too much seemed to be because of his hot
headedness. We see him first acting king like, cool and rational. But quickly after he hears that
Phaedra had died he completely loses all control. He becomes very irrational and stubborn. He reads
the note which Phaedra had left, and without even a thought he accuses Hippolytus of the deed and
curses him with a curse that was given to him by Poseidon himself. He does this without a trial where
Hippolytus could defend himself. He barely lets Hippolytus explain to him on how it couldn t have
been him that had raped Phaedra, but Theseus is blind to his arguments. He questions Hippolytus piety
and his celibacy, and dismisses both as massive lies told by his son. Then when all is explained by
Artemis, he is completely surprised, and hugely regrets his actions. Hippolytus forgives him just
before he dies of his wounds done by the curse, but really Theseus is left with a dead son for no real
good reason, and for which mostly he could have changed by not cursing him. On the other hand,
Aphrodite tells us on what was to happen, and could Theseus really have changed the Gods

Pathos, Logos, and Ethos in Advertising Essay
What captures the attention of people when they view an advertisement, commercial or poster? Is it
the colors, a captivating phrase or the people pictured? While these are some of the elements often
employed in advertising, we can look deeper and analyze the types of appeals that are utilized to draw
attention to certain advertisements. The persuasive methods used can be classified into three modes.
These modes are pathos, logos, and ethos. Pathos makes an appeal to emotions, logos appeals to logic
or reason and ethos makes an appeal of character or credibility. Each appeal can give support to the
message that is being promoted.
For example, to make people aware that breast cancer can affect even young women,

One anti smoking poster shows merely a pair of hands holding a revolver. Instead of bullets the hands
are using cigarettes to load the weapon. Listed in small print on one side of the poster are numerous
conditions that may be related to smoking, such as fatal heart attacks, emphysema, cancer, and gum
disease. The phrase Smoking kills... so why bother starting is printed in large font at the bottom of the
poster. The message of this poster is clear: Don t Smoke. The poster is trying to portray that smoking
is like holding a loaded weapon. Just as someone would be endangering their life with the loaded gun,
they would also be endangering their life with the use of cigarettes. The consequences and health
issues associated with smoking can be just as deadly as those of the gun. Ultimately, if someone
smokes they are putting their life at risk. Therefore, the logical act is to never start smoking.
Finally, a poster from the Centers for Disease Control and the National Colorectal Cancer Research
Alliance features Katie Couric, a well known news broadcast personality, framing her face with her
hands. The question, Are you the picture of health? is printed on the left of the poster. Couric s quote,

The general argument made by MANNVI SINGH in her work is to providing informations and

More specifically, the author is trying to make a point that s most of the kids have this are because of
the environmental interaction that they lived in, it s typically like saying it s not the kids fault to have
Circadian Rhythms. In the author work, she said that depression symptoms weren t only showed in

Although the author is wrong about how does Circadian Rhythms happened and how to prevent
it(only for 1 particular way). First of all, the author is wrong about having a dark room can help their
kids, this only result in one way is depression since depression is about not interacting with people. In
facts, interacting with people by talking, have fun, are ways to help the kids to release their stress at
school. Furthermore, if a kid have good social life, he or she should be able to have no reason for
getting depress due to their joy and love of life and games, on the contrary, by taking their equipment
of having fun, they re more likely to get bored, angry, lonely, and pick on at school for not having a

environment and away to prevent it is to create opportunities for kids to talk with someone they feel
safe, close or even able to talk with. Someone that they can trust such as a mentor health guider

Social Effects Of Underage Drinking
Introduction
Alcohol when consumed by adults in moderation and in appropriate circumstances, may not have any
permanent physical, mental or emotional effects. On the other hand, if alcohol is consumed underage,
mixed with other drugs or drank in excess can cause many adverse effects impacting the entire body. I
will be focusing on the impacts of underage drinking due to alcohol contributing to the 3 primary
causes of death among teenagers: unintentional injuries, homicide and suicide (Australian Drug
Foundation, 2017). Moreover, 78% of 14 17 year old s have tried alcohol at least once despite 18
being the legal drinking age.
The reason alcohol is so common among teenagers is due to the social importance and integration
alcohol has in Australian society. Relatives, teachers and parents alike drink in all circumstances:
when they re sad, when they re happy and even when they re bored (National Institute on Alcohol
Abuse and Alcoholism, 2017). These people are the most influential people in a teenager s life and by
drinking so freely, they condition the next generation to follow in their footsteps and make any excuse
to drink. I believe social exclusions and stunted learning, that underage drinking brings due to its
physical, emotional, social and mental effects can lead to an undesirable future. During adolescence,
relationships with family and friends as well as personal and educational development can define a
person s future health; so by indulging in underage drinking you

Marina Lambrini Diamandis Research Paper
Marina Lambrini Diamandis was born on the tenth of October in 1985 in Brynmawr, Wales, though
she grew up in a small town named Pandy. She only had one sibling; an older sister. Most of her
inspiration came from her childhood music teacher who told her she could she could do anything.
Diamandis went to the University of East London to study music for a year, and then transferred to
Middlesex University for a classic composition course, where she dropped out two months in. While
Marina was a teen, she spent a lot of time going to auditions, which all turned out to be unsuccessful.
She had chances to perform in The Lion King, and be in a boy band, but she ended up falling ill so she
ultimately could not audition for either. Her stage name, Marina and the Diamonds was created in
2005. Diamandis did not have any band members, so she came to the conclusion that Diamonds stood
for her fans. Marina released her first song Mermaid vs. Sailor , which she self produced. Obsessions
was the second song she released, on the fourteenth of February, 2009. That December, she was

The Native Americans have come across long journey of difficult times since the occupation of their

The Alcatraz opposition was followed by another major event in the struggle of native America s civil

rights for their water and mineral recourses in their land, and for equality according to the constitution.
This was followed by the huge damage of the Bureau of Indian Affairs BIA. In 1973, the government

were also some internal differences among the Indian American tribes. For instance Oglala Sioux
Tribe leaders were criticizing the oppositions. As a result, The AIM leaders were also critical to those
tribes and to the tribal president Richard Wilson. They blamed Wilson for his mismanagement of his

Ethnic Differences Across Generations
Gish Jen s Who s Irish? explores a Chinese grandmother s thoughts and beliefs about her ethnically
integrated family. The grandmother tells the story as though she is looking back on past events and
thinking about how they have affected her present life. As her tale begins, she identifies her
granddaughter, Sophie, as a wild three year old (161). Perhaps the grandmother associates with Sophie
s strong will, because she reveals her own intense nature when she says, I am hard work my whole
life, and fierce besides. (161). Jen provides an immediate glimpse into the grandmother s true

grandmother spanks her anyway (165). Following that, Sophie keeps her clothes on in the park, but
the grandmother does not reveal to Natalie how she succeeded in gaining Sophie s compliance (165).
This success leads to a short period of harmony between Sophie, the grandmother, and Natalie.
During this period of concord, the grandmother believes she can help her [Sophie s] Chinese side fight
against her wild side. (166). She does this by teaching Sophie good habits such as not eating food with
her hands, not playing with garbage cans, and not hitting anyone (166). The grandmother continues to
spank Sophie despite knowing that Natalie disapproves of this method of discipline. Clearly, the sixty

My Totem Pole Essay
My Totem Pole A totem pole is a tall log carved mainly by the indigenous people of Alaska and
British Columbia. The poles tell stories that have been passed down from generation to generation as
legends and myths. However, that is not the only type of totem pole, there are totems that tell the
carver s history, their family s history and some are even used to honor the dead. Additionally, some
totem poles were made to show respect to an important tribal member. Totem poles feature animals
and symbols, chosen by the carver to represent themselves, another person, or an event. I have chosen
to construct a totem pole to represent my qualities and personality. My totem pole will feature a deer, a
fox, a monkey, and a cat. For my first totem animal, I have chosen the deer. I chose this animal
because I am quiet when I am around people I don t know. Also, the deer is said to be helpful and not
knowingly hurt anything, well, I try to be helpful and I don t try to hurt anybody that I care about. I am
different from the deer because deer are said to be uncaring about what people say to try to convince

A Study On Sediment Properties
Sediment properties were measured from three surface scrapes of sediment taken at each quadrat in
Essex and Morecambe. These sediment scrapes were frozen at 20°C for subsequent analysis. In the
laboratory, 5g of the sediment was air dried, gently crushed and passed through a 2mm sieve. Particle
size distribution of the 2 mm fraction was undertaken following Malvern Mastersizer protocol (v1.3)
(http://www.geog.cam.ac.uk/facilities/laboratories/techniques/psd.html) at the University of
Cambridge. Only one sample was taken at each of the Northern Irish sites, when this was not possible,
the Agri Food and Biosciences Institute, supplied data on sediment particle sizes. Comparative particle
size distribution indices (Logarithmic mean, standard deviation, kurtosis and skew) were calculated
according to Folk and Ward (1957) and analysed using GRADISTAT software (Folk Ward, 1957; Blott
Pye, 2001).
Particle size distribution was recorded at the site level for the Northern Irish sites, but was highly
resolved for Essex and Morecambe (three replicates per quadrat within each sites), requiring us to
standardise the data across locations. To do so, we first tested for significant differences between the
three replicate samples taken at each quadrat within each site, and upon finding no significant
differences, pooled replicates giving a quadrat mean. We then tested for significant differences in
sediment properties within each pooled quadrat at each site, which were not

Aeneas As A Hero
What is a hero? When we think the word Hero what usually comes to mind is an individual pre
destined for greatness with the weight of the world on their shoulders or some great task to complete.
Heroes, however, can also become lost or super stressed out in particular situations of great pressure
or in their journey in general and are able to act with integrity and grace. This is all true for Aeneas,
the main character and protagonist of Virgil s Aeneid, who is such a person, but it s not like he had
done it by himself. He has had plenty of encounters with tons of situations in which death is at his
doorstep, in which love and hate, peace and war mix together in what either ranges from great results
to agonizing failures. Now in these circumstances Aeneas manages himself with humility, by obeying
and doing as the gods wish. Yet, this is the only way Aeneas is really able to go on be a hero and found
Rome. His impressive feats, actions, and leadership are all due to the divine beings that dwell up
above it the firmament, aka gods. The gods were the ones who took singular interests in Aeneas,
benefiting him by providing wisdom or advice and guidance, and, well, granted Juno caused him some
misfortunes. However, looking at the bigger picture, most of the perfect chances Aeneas had to display
his heroism were sponsored and brought to him by the gods. So the equation is simple, divine
intervention + some standard trojan heartthrob prince (BOOM!) = greatest destiny come true.

The Deer Hunter Monologue
DIALOGUE
Although the film relies heavily on location, cinematography and music to tell the
story, it is the dialogue that gives it its humanity. When Mike returns home and sees Linda
for the first time she hugs Mike, tells him she is happy he is back yet she pauses and says
I don t know how I feel . This perfectly describes everyones state of mind at this point in the
story. Mike is asked how it feels to be shot. He responds It don t hurt if that s what you mean .
It was a strange question and an odd response. Of course it hurts if you are shot, but I think he
was trying to convince both his friends and himself that he wasn t mentally affected by the war.

The Deer Hunter deals with the ramifications
of war but is it a war movie. The answer is yes and no. Relatively little time is devoted
to war footage, seemingly the director believes that we are intuitively aware of what
a war looks like and focuses instead on the human toll of war. It is also difficult, as Mr. Biskind
suggests, to discern what political statement
the filmmaker is trying to make, if any at all. If I had to categorize this film I would call
it a psychological drama. The same film could have been made using any number of
backdrops. The war had ended only three years prior to the making of The Deer
Hunter so it seems logical that Cimino chose the Viet Nam War as his subject. As
important as the movie seemed in 1978, I think the passage of time has dampened
the enthusiasm over its importance. The director s next film, Heavens Gate was
a box office flop. From that moment, critics began to re examine their praise of
The Deer Hunter . Fame can certainly be fleeting.
PERSONAL REACTION
I chose this film for several reasons. I knew very little about the Viet Nam War
and I wanted to know more. Based on the awards the film received and the

  • 2. Effects Of Obesity On The Food Industry 1. Introduction 1.1. Motivation Air Filled Emulsions Obesity is one of the biggest evils of society nowadays and it is a result of sedentary lifestyle combined with unbalanced eating habits (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2011). The dissemination of chronic diseases caused by it, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some types of cancer, requires an urgent need to reduce dietary fat (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2009). Also, the reluctance of the public to change their eating habits impedes the problem resolution. An essential approach to this problem that the food industry have been looking can be the elaboration and production of low fat products that resemble the full fat versions according to sensory behaviour, taste and perceived indulgence (Norton, Moore, Fryer, 2007). Air bubbles designated to act like oil droplets in terms of size and physical properties is an alternative to the low fat food production (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2009). Some findings strengthen that approach, like the contribution of microbubbles for the improvement of a range of desirable properties, including texture, digestibility and flavour intensity (Campbell, Webb, Pondiella, Niranjan,, 1999; Kilcast Clegg, 2002; Lau Dickinson, 2005; Wildmoser, Scheiwiller, Windhab, 2004), that are essential during processing of some aliments like ice cream and whipped cream. Microbubbles can facilitate mastication and promote enzyme accessibility and enhance flavour delivery (Tchuenbou Magaia, 2011). Nevertheless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Phaedo By Plato In the book, Phaedo by Plato, he discusses the immortality and divinity of the soul, and uses the philosophical theoria to prove that such a thing exists. Plato spends a lot of time trying to prove the idea to his fellow philosophers the divinity of the soul. Yet, in the book In Defense of Philosophy by Josef Pieper, he talks about how philosophy is not about finding an exact truth, but merely seeking to get close enough to it. This shows a clear contradiction between Plato s belief that a soul is divine and continues to live on and Pieper s thoughts on what true philosophy is, because he creates dialogue that clearly shows influence of his religious background that takes away from the philosophical discourse. It is due to this, Pieper would not agree with Plato in his interpretation on the divinity of the human soul. Plato uses Socrates Argument from Opposites to show that a living being cycles from being dead to being alive, but this falls flat because we must rely on the idea that there is another realm for were the dead souls must reside. Let s consider it, perhaps, in this way: do the souls of human beings exist in Hades when they have died, or do they not? (Plato 17) This shows that their belief in an immortal soul requires that one believe that there is the existence of a place called Hades, without any other interpretation from either Socrates or Cebes. Piper would disagree with this idea because it relies on a religious belief, which can be related to the idea of the modern Christian Philosopher. The following reflections will nonetheless consider third only those situations in which the philosopher is also explicitly a believer who openly accepts the truth of a sacred tradition and consciously accepts the truth of a sacred tradition and consciously tries to be aware of it in his reasoning. (Pieper 112) Here Pieper talks about how a philosopher must be careful of his faith and make sure it does not affect his reasoning, which is what is happening to Socrates and Cebes as they reason their way through the existence of the soul. They attribute a piece of their reasoning to a potentially mythical place that the current Greek religion believes in, without considering if there are alternatives to such ... • 4. Racial Tension In Strange Fruit According to the NAACP article in the late 19th century racial tension grew throughout the United States. More of this tension was noticeable in the Southern parts of the United States. Lynchings were becoming a popular way of resolving some of the anger that whites had in relation to the free blacks. From 1882 1968, 4,743 lynching s occurred in the United States. Of these people that were lynched 3,446 were black ( History of Lynchings, 2017).Many poets and writers took those tragedy s and decided to put their feelings into writing. Bitter Fruit later turned into Strange Fruit, was written by a Jewish high school English teacher from the Bronx and a member of the American Communist Party. This astonishing writers name is Abel Meeropol. In 1937, Meeropol saw a photograph of Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith being lynched in the South. The two gentleman was accused of rape towards a white lady and was sent to jail falsely for it. A number of people broke into the jail with sledgehammers to get the two men to beat and lynch them. Meeropol decided to write a poem about the disbelief that came across his eyes. Meeropol wrote the poem as a protest poem. Meeropol recalled how the photograph haunted me for days and inspired the writing of the poem ( Strange Fruit, 2017). He wanted to expose the American racism basing it on the lynching of African Americans. Meeropols work was so stunning it brought major attention to the New York lawmakers. Polonius is always interfering in other people s lives when he shouldn t be very involved at all. The Author shows Polonius s meddling in the quote, Observe his inclinations in yourself (2:1). In this quote, we see that Polonius is meddling in his son s life when he is heading off to college. Polonius sends his servant to spy on his son while he is in college and to spread rumors about his son that would give him a bad name. Polonius then justifies doing this by stating that it would help his son grow stronger by learning how to deal with people who look at you differently. This demonstrates meddling by Polonius ... • 6. The Collapse Of The Ottoman Empire Introduction The Ottoman empire was a mighty empire that ruled form 1299 1918. With its humble beginnings in the 12th century to become the most powerful empire in Europe the 16th century under the caliph Suleiman the magnificent, however like all empires the Ottomans reached a stage of stagnation. Although the Ottomans collapsed at the end of WW1, the main factors contributing the collapse begun in the 17th century where the Ottoman empire s gradual process of decline started. This essay will explore the most notable factors that contributed to the collapse of the Ottoman empire. Beginning with the political situation in the 17th century and the attempted solution to solve the issue of succession which at times crippled the empire. The economic decline which went parallel with the political one with the empire no longer able to attain its wealth form the military expeditions and the influx of silver from Europe casing the inflation issues leading to the capitalisations with the European nations. The factor of the religious and social situation in the 19th century and its effects on the central government and the empires minorities. The rise of nationalism throughout Europe which made its way to the Ottoman empire ensuring its destruction. Paragraph 1 One of the major factors that contributed to the collapse of the ottoman Empire was the issue of succession within the empire. Since the birth of the Ottoman Empire, the sultan was the central figure having to make decisions in all aspects of the empire from military, economic and political decisions. The Ottoman empire was a dynasty so whenever the sultan had died one of the sons will take charge of the throne, the sons of the sultan will serve as governors within the empire gaining the required experience needed to take the pivotal role of the sultan. in most cases the successor was chosen by the sultan before his death however when this was not done it caused some problems as to who will take charge of the throne. After the father had died often the sons would fight bloody civil wars as to who will take power crippling the empire. A brief description of what middle childhood is, The school years are marked by improved athletic abilities; more logical thought processes; mastery of basic literacy skills; advances in self understanding, morality, and friendship; and the beginnings of peer group membership (Berk, 2017, p. 6). I find this age group relevant to my future because I want to pursue a career in elementary school teaching or counseling. Every Sunday at my church I work in the elementary age kids group. I lead about an average of thirty kids in worship and small groups. Even though sometimes they are hard to handle, I see myself being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are three major features that I would say middle childhood contains. The three features are physical, cognitive, and social. Physical is based on body growth and nutrition. Cognitive deals with how students excel in different ways at school. Social means how students interact with schoolmates and how they respond. They all are different aspects of a child, but they connect with different places in their lives. Physical growth, during this age period, continues at a slow pace like it did in early childhood, but now health issues can start to occur. Nutrition is a key concept in a school age child s life. Today, 32 percent of U.S. children and adolescents are overweight. (Berk, 2017, p. 228). This is an eye opener that something needs to change in children s nutrition at home and at school. The cognitive features of a child through middle childhood is just as important. Piaget s cognitive developmental theory is described as, Development occurs as the brain grows and children exercise their innate drive to discover reality in a generally stimulating environment. (Berk, 2017, p. 22). This theory helps people look at individual differences. There are four different sections that are looked at when dealing with cognitive development, those are conservation, classification, seriation, and spatial reasoning. These four things separate children by their strengths. During middle childhood, social understanding, to me, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Indecision In The Lovesong Of J Alfred Prufrock In his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, author T.S. Eliot demonstrates that indecision often leads to feelings of resentment. For example, when one dwells on the possible risks of an action rather than deciding to take action, he often later resents himself for not at least attempting to do what he wanted. In Eliot s poem, Prufrock s fear of being misunderstood keeps him from asking a simple question: If one, settling a pillow by her head Should say: That is not what I meant at all; That is not it, at all. ... would it have been worth it, after all, (96 99) poses Prufrock. Yes, it would be worth it to ask the question. Because being misunderstood does not have any physical or lasting consequences, Prufrock has little to lose by asking the question he so badly wants to ask. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prufrock exemplifies this aspect when he begins to blame others for his inability to inquire and thus starts to resent them. He imagines that the nearby ladies are poking fun at him, keeping him from asking the question: They will say: But how his hair is growing thin / ...They will say: But how his arms and legs are thin! (41 44). Prufrock has no proof that the ladies are truly judging him in this way. However, he resents them because his imagining that they are thinking such things hinders his confidence and keeps him from making a decision to ask the question. The ladies are surely not giving Prufrock any compliments, so why not make them take the blame for his impotence? However, while Prufrock allows the women to have such an effect on his situation, the women are not even thinking about him. They are only worried with their own affairs as they come and go talking of Michelangelo (35), not once mentioning J. Alfred Prufrock. Though some of the Spanish did have true intentions of saving the natives, who were seen as heathens for their evil practices, most of them had far more lucrative reasons for evangelizing and colonizing the New World. The conquistadores came to the New World mainly to expand their personal wealth, which in Spain many did not have much of. During the process, constructors made sure to make the Titanic as attractive as possible, accessorizing it with many iconic features such as the ship s grand staircase and its promenade deck. Many people at the time believed that the Titanic would never sink, therefore naming it the Unsinkable ship after it has set sail. Unfortunately, the unsinkable ship collided with an iceberg on April 14, 1912, claiming the lives of 1,500 passengers. As a result, the Titanic broke into two and sunk, leaving behind its legacy. Thomas Hardy provides a poem that acknowledges the sinking of the Titanic. Unlike the many similar reactions of grief and sorrow that the people had, Hardy approaches the event differently. In the poem, The Convergence of the Twain, Thomas Hardy uses a variety of rhetorical devices to express his disdain for the vanity of humans during the first half of the poem and to explain that fate s work resulted in the outcome of the Titanic during the second half of the poem. Throughout the first five stanzas of the poem, Hardy utilizes allusion, juxtaposition, and alliteration to emphasize the idea that the excessive pride of humans is useless and it has led to the downfall of the Titanic. Therefore, Hardy provides insight on the vanity of those that built the ship. He describes the people as the Pride of Life. The description alludes to the book of John in the Christian Bible. ... Said risks come in all shapes and sizes. From economic to health problems, CAFOs are a source of all sorts of impending issues. One of the many dilemmas people face is the danger of antibiotics. Antibiotics are force fed to the animals that reside on industrialized farms to promote faster growth. What many people do not realize is that these antibiotics are in the meat they are eating, and therefore causing an almost invisible, yet extremely detrimental health risk. The use of antibiotics in animals has been seemingly harmless until recently when medical professionals discovered that humans are building up a resistance to antibiotics. Antibiotics have been around for centuries, and they have been working up until recent years. Humans have begun to develop resistance to antibiotics that fight deadly diseases (NIAID). The unnatural feeds, hormones, and excessive quantities of antibiotics used on factory farms put the human population at risk for chronic disease, obesity, and drug resistant bacteria, and pose the threat of major zoonotic disease outbreaks. The previous quote barely skims the surface of the dangers antibiotic resistance is creating. Social Effects Of Underage Drinking Introduction Alcohol when consumed by adults in moderation and in appropriate circumstances, may not have any permanent physical, mental or emotional effects. On the other hand, if alcohol is consumed underage, mixed with other drugs or drank in excess can cause many adverse effects impacting the entire body. I will be focusing on the impacts of underage drinking due to alcohol contributing to the 3 primary causes of death among teenagers: unintentional injuries, homicide and suicide (Australian Drug Foundation, 2017). Moreover, 78% of 14 17 year old s have tried alcohol at least once despite 18 being the legal drinking age. The reason alcohol is so common among teenagers is due to the social importance and integration alcohol has in Australian society. Relatives, teachers and parents alike drink in all circumstances: when they re sad, when they re happy and even when they re bored (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2017). These people are the most influential people in a teenager s life and by drinking so freely, they condition the next generation to follow in their footsteps and make any excuse to drink. I believe social exclusions and stunted learning, that underage drinking brings due to its physical, emotional, social and mental effects can lead to an undesirable future. This history is among the worst American experience because of the massacre and the violation against human right. In order to be heard, they protest, occupy land, and write books. The Alcatraz opposition was followed by another major event in the struggle of native America s civil right at Wounded Knee south Dakota. In 1972, they requested the government for land ownerships, rights for their water and mineral recourses in their land, and for equality according to the constitution. This was followed by the huge damage of the Bureau of Indian Affairs BIA. In 1973, the government came with denying the requests and then the leaders of American Indian movement AIM, promised to keep struggling (Kent 1769). The leaders of the AIM were Russel Means and Denis Banks. There were also some internal differences among the Indian American tribes. For instance Oglala Sioux Tribe leaders were criticizing the oppositions. As a result, The AIM leaders were also critical to those tribes and to the tribal president Richard Wilson. They blamed Wilson for his mismanagement of his tribe s fund. Wilson had responded with serious attack on his opponents and their families. Hence, the government supported Wilson and convinced as the leaders intended to size BIA on February 12, 19763 which was followed by 60 heavily armed marshals (Kent). • 31. Essay about Ethnic Differences Across Generations Ethnic Differences Across Generations Gish Jen s Who s Irish? explores a Chinese grandmother s thoughts and beliefs about her ethnically integrated family. The grandmother tells the story as though she is looking back on past events and thinking about how they have affected her present life. As her tale begins, she identifies her granddaughter, Sophie, as a wild three year old (161). Perhaps the grandmother associates with Sophie s strong will, because she reveals her own intense nature when she says, I am hard work my whole life, and fierce besides. (161). Jen provides an immediate glimpse into the grandmother s true character that remains constant. As the grandmother recounts her time living with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She declares, John and my daughter agree Sophie is a problem, but they don t know what to do. (164). Subsequently, the grandmother offers the suggestion, You spank her, she ll stop because she considers it acceptable based on her cultural background (164). However, John and Natalie are against spanking because they believe it gives children low self esteem, and In America, parents not supposed to spank the child. (165). After many frustrating attempts to get Sophie to keep her clothes on, the grandmother spanks her anyway (165). Following that, Sophie keeps her clothes on in the park, but the grandmother does not reveal to Natalie how she succeeded in gaining Sophie s compliance (165). This success leads to a short period of harmony between Sophie, the grandmother, and Natalie. During this period of concord, the grandmother believes she can help her [Sophie s] Chinese side fight against her wild side. (166). She does this by teaching Sophie good habits such as not eating food with her hands, not playing with garbage cans, and not hitting anyone (166). The grandmother continues to spank Sophie despite knowing that Natalie disapproves of this method of discipline. • 33. My Totem Pole Essay My Totem Pole A totem pole is a tall log carved mainly by the indigenous people of Alaska and British Columbia. The poles tell stories that have been passed down from generation to generation as legends and myths. However, that is not the only type of totem pole, there are totems that tell the carver s history, their family s history and some are even used to honor the dead. Additionally, some totem poles were made to show respect to an important tribal member. Totem poles feature animals and symbols, chosen by the carver to represent themselves, another person, or an event. I have chosen to construct a totem pole to represent my qualities and personality. My totem pole will feature a deer, a fox, a monkey, and a cat. For my first totem animal, I have chosen the deer. I chose this animal because I am quiet when I am around people I don t know. Also, the deer is said to be helpful and not knowingly hurt anything, well, I try to be helpful and I don t try to hurt anybody that I care about. I am different from the deer because deer are said to be uncaring about what people say to try to convince them to do something, but I usually listen to people that I trust like my friends if they say ... I am different than the fox in many ways since I don t have four legs, a tail and fluffy fur (just joking). I am different than the fox since I m not extremely alert to danger, and if I am, then usually I just ignore it and hope for the best. • 34. A Study On Sediment Properties Sediment properties were measured from three surface scrapes of sediment taken at each quadrat in Essex and Morecambe. These sediment scrapes were frozen at 20°C for subsequent analysis. In the laboratory, 5g of the sediment was air dried, gently crushed and passed through a 2mm sieve. Particle size distribution of the 2 mm fraction was undertaken following Malvern Mastersizer protocol (v1.3) (http://www.geog.cam.ac.uk/facilities/laboratories/techniques/psd.html) at the University of Cambridge. Only one sample was taken at each of the Northern Irish sites, when this was not possible, the Agri Food and Biosciences Institute, supplied data on sediment particle sizes. Comparative particle size distribution indices (Logarithmic mean, standard deviation, kurtosis and skew) were calculated according to Folk and Ward (1957) and analysed using GRADISTAT software (Folk Ward, 1957; Blott Pye, 2001). Particle size distribution was recorded at the site level for the Northern Irish sites, but was highly resolved for Essex and Morecambe (three replicates per quadrat within each sites), requiring us to standardise the data across locations. To do so, we first tested for significant differences between the three replicate samples taken at each quadrat within each site, and upon finding no significant differences, pooled replicates giving a quadrat mean. We then tested for significant differences in sediment properties within each pooled quadrat at each site, which were not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Aeneas As A Hero What is a hero? When we think the word Hero what usually comes to mind is an individual pre destined for greatness with the weight of the world on their shoulders or some great task to complete. Heroes, however, can also become lost or super stressed out in particular situations of great pressure or in their journey in general and are able to act with integrity and grace. This is all true for Aeneas, the main character and protagonist of Virgil s Aeneid, who is such a person, but it s not like he had done it by himself. He has had plenty of encounters with tons of situations in which death is at his doorstep, in which love and hate, peace and war mix together in what either ranges from great results to agonizing failures. Now in these circumstances Aeneas manages himself with humility, by obeying and doing as the gods wish. Yet, this is the only way Aeneas is really able to go on be a hero and found Rome. His impressive feats, actions, and leadership are all due to the divine beings that dwell up above it the firmament, aka gods. The gods were the ones who took singular interests in Aeneas, benefiting him by providing wisdom or advice and guidance, and, well, granted Juno caused him some misfortunes. However, looking at the bigger picture, most of the perfect chances Aeneas had to display his heroism were sponsored and brought to him by the gods. So the equation is simple, divine intervention + some standard trojan heartthrob prince (BOOM!) = greatest destiny come true. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Deer Hunter Monologue DIALOGUE Although the film relies heavily on location, cinematography and music to tell the story, it is the dialogue that gives it its humanity. When Mike returns home and sees Linda for the first time she hugs Mike, tells him she is happy he is back yet she pauses and says I don t know how I feel . This perfectly describes everyones state of mind at this point in the story. Mike is asked how it feels to be shot. He responds It don t hurt if that s what you mean . It was a strange question and an odd response. Of course it hurts if you are shot, but I think he was trying to convince both his friends and himself that he wasn t mentally affected by the war. Film critic Roger Ebert commented The Deer Hunter is far from flawless, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Deer Hunter deals with the ramifications of war but is it a war movie. The answer is yes and no. Relatively little time is devoted to war footage, seemingly the director believes that we are intuitively aware of what a war looks like and focuses instead on the human toll of war. It is also difficult, as Mr. Biskind suggests, to discern what political statement the filmmaker is trying to make, if any at all. If I had to categorize this film I would call it a psychological drama. The same film could have been made using any number of backdrops. The war had ended only three years prior to the making of The Deer Hunter so it seems logical that Cimino chose the Viet Nam War as his subject. As important as the movie seemed in 1978, I think the passage of time has dampened the enthusiasm over its importance. The director s next film, Heavens Gate was
