Giambologn Art Analysis
Our first piece of art, on the left, is titled Rape of a Sabine by Giambologna in 1583. This is a three
dimensional sculpture that has many curves and points of view. You can circle around this sculpture
and find aspects of it you couldn t visualize at one point. The faces of the sculptured men and woman
have a look of despair, sorrow, and misery that create for a very dramatic piece. Rape of the Sabine
tells a story of roman men seizing Sabine women to marry them in order for the city of Rome to grow
and become more powerful than it was. Our second artwork it named Nude Descending a Staircase by
Marcel Duchamp in 1912. This style of work is called Futurism and honors movement and contempt
for the past. Duchamp was known internationally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The photographer of this photograph was working with the Federal Government when she came
across a mother trying to live during the hard times of The Great Depression. This mother, who s name
is unknown, was living in a migrant camp with her children. The family was dealing with many
hardships like famine and inequality along with many others during that period. This image has
caused controversy ever since it was published and reproduced. Some say Lange lacked compassion
of the mothers feelings when it was published and brought forth. Overall, the image helped in an
enormous way by bringing awareness to the struggles of poverty and starvation to this

The Discovery Of The Scientist s The Technologists, Along...
Before MIT was founded in 1861, the common take on knowledge was quite different than that of our
modern day. Education was primarily for a wealthy upper class, who regardless of work ethic or true
intelligence, had safety nets of incredibly well off families often with money to spare. As noted in
Matthew Pearl s The Technologists, along with Bruce Sinclair and Merritt Roe Smiths articles on MIT
s foundation, Harvard and other schools for this elite class focused on a purely knowledge based
learning system; while MIT attempted to introduce a more technical education combining pure science
along with practical applications of technology, thus ushering in a new style of technical education.
In 1861, founder William Rodgers, chartered one of the first technical schools in MIT. While growing
up a geologist, in 1831, Rodgers began contemplation the connections between pure science and its
applications to engineering (Smith 16), which little to his knowledge, would be the basis of a new
institution. When Rodgers decided to introduce the idea for a technical institute, he had already
mapped out a path for the curriculum and its basis. Introduced and now known as the New Education ,
Rodgers s idea, set forth by Charles W. Eliot, brought on an entirely new technical education that had
almost never been seen before.
Rodgers s idea, along with Eliot s, changed the way many viewed education of the sciences and
applied technologies. With a majority of the wealthy population attending

Application Of A Desktop Study
Desktop Study
A desktop study, as its name implies, can be done entirely from a computer and is often the first step
in preliminary site investigations. The process of a desktop study involves correlating background
information about the site that will affect the design and construction; from a desk study a large
amount of relevant information can be gathered, such as: local context (i.e. what is near to the site, the
aesthetic of the surrounding buildings); archaeology (beneath the surface of a site there may be
unexploded bombs, remnants of old structures etc.); easements (the rights attached to neighbouring
lands, for example right to light); the likelihood of contaminated soil (which we know we do have on
our site); site ecology (the surrounding environment and how it coexists together). Having this
knowledge of the site before any work has begun allows for easier planning later as obstacles that
could have been a costly surprise later can be solved with much better efficiency.
The process of a desktop study could also involve looking at OS (ordnance survey) maps of the site
which can reveal the previous usage of the site as well as drainage and much more. Geological maps
can show what the ground conditions are like on site and if there is any risk of, for example,
subsidence occurring or if it already has. Service maps can be inspected to find hidden services, for
example telephone cables or drainage. The findings of previous surveys, if they exist, can also be
found

operations as well as the key law enforcement agencies that are responsible for enforcing law, the
explanation of one major change to law enforcement operations and the reason why the change was

police operations and lastly, discussing the main requirements related to training that local and federal
law enforcement agencies must address.

What Is The Theme Of Frozen River
In the movie Frozen River portrays two women struggling to get by. One of the women lives near an
Indian reservation, Ray Eddy, while the other, Lila Littlewolf, lives in the reservation. Lila has been
smuggling people over the border from Canada to the United States before, while Ray comes into
contact with Lila and is forced to transport people from Canada to the United States. It is shown that it
is not hard to transport people from both sides of the border, due to the reservation being on both sides
of the border, which is separated by the river. Thus when the river is frozen they can pass it with a car
and pass without being checked by troopers, as it is still part of the reservation. When Ray realizes
that there can be made quite some money with the smuggling, which she needs, as her husband left
her with all their money, Ray goes back to Lila and thus comes into contact with someone in a
reservation and thus with the American Indian culture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

between their cultures and their reaction on these differences, it portrays how in contemporary society

He had a couple used dirt bikes here and there but nothing special. He competed in BMX for about 3

Life was hard not having any sponsors and winning almost every race you entered. Jeremy soon

The Big Short
The Big Short Report
One of the topics I found most interesting in this book was the differences between the stock market
and the bond market that Michael Lewis to some extent explains in the beginning of chapter three.
While the stock market was intensely regulated and mostly transparent, the bond market consisted of
primarily large institutions and escaped serious regulation. This lack of legislative control played a
great part in allowing the credit default swaps on subprime mortgage bonds, CDO s, and the eventual
collapse of the subprime market. Following the subprime mortgage crisis, the Department of the
Treasury released a new regulatory plan, The Department of the Treasury Blueprint for a Modernized
Financial Regulatory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the Paulson Plan held off a major financial crisis and attempted to address many of the
issues that were the cause of the crisis, improvements could have been made that would have a more
lasting positive effect on the American financial system. According to an article in the Wall Street
Journal, the plan needed to achieve at three objectives. It needed to prevent a deep and prolonged
recession, achieve that first objective at the lowest possible costs to the U.S. taxpayer, and it should
not bail out the existing investors. As stated in the article, the Treasury plan addresses only the first
objective, and only indirectly. While the article gave many suggestions for improving the plan,
perhaps the most useful was the recommendation to require all regulated financial institutions to raise
2% of their assets in additional capital to preserve the stability of the financial system. This mandate
should ensure that no individual bank sends an adverse signal to the market, which should cause
investors to not lose confidence in the banks. Another key event described in The Big Short, was when
American International Group found a way to insure subprime mortgage loans while being able to
bury these risks on its balance sheet. This was made possible by the fact that AIG was a triple A rated
corporation with an enormous

Zoos And The Best Interest Of The Animals Essay
Nowadays, you can find a zoo in any state. They are continuing to pop up everywhere, which raises
the debate surrounding whether zoos are actually beneficial or if they serve a purpose at all. However
the argument that zoos provide a way to observe, learn, and for entertainment purposes may not
always be in the best interest of the animals. As there are far more negative view points against the
value of zoos, such as the use of whips electric prods, and other blunt instruments. By doing so forces
innocent animals to do as humans say and what they want only for the pleasure of pleasing a crowd.
The provided statistics and facts show just how wrong and completely cruel keeping animals in
captivity is not right in anyway. Unfortunately, zoos cannot provide adequate space necessary for
animals to roam freely and possesses an overabundance of breeding, with minimal room for offspring.
Although, zoos may be used for several reasons such as: Wildlife observation, for educational
purpose, conservation of near endangered species, and for entertainment. Further, even if an animal is
facing extinction zoos have no right to capture, confined, and breed an animal. These awful places say
they are educating the community. When in reality they are just trapping animals and forcing them to
live in captivity for a profit. Millions of people frequent Zoos and Aquarium habitats yearly, for
observation and entertainment purpose. Annually more than 700 million people visit zoos and

Essay on Gun Control Rights
One of many controversial topics in the United States is gun control. It is clearly written in the Second
Amendment of the Constitution that the people will have the right to bear arms. Recently; however,
people have been misusing those firearms and have been harming others with them. The government
is trying to regulate the sale, distribution, and ownership of guns because of this reason. Some of the
arguments being made by the politicians is simply if the government has the right to be able to control,
and if it does, the effectiveness of the public policy to regulate guns. The importance of gun control as
a health issue is a necessity. Each year, the United States has a bit over 8,000 murders with firearms

It also prohibits the ammunition feeding devices for these semiautomatic weapons. (Fienstein 1). With
this being said, the FAWB is an act that supports gun control instead of bearing arms. The Second
Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The
constitution is clearly saying all citizens have the right to be able to own and carry a weapon or
firearm. On June 26, 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, the United States Supreme Court held in
a 5 4 decision that the Second Amendment protects an individual s right to possess a firearm for
traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defense within the home and within federal enclaves
(Cornell 1). This is showing how our founding fathers supported the right to bear arms. Ownership of
certain weapons should be prohibited. Assault rifles and submachine guns are firearms that are never
necessary. The United States should set a goal to having fewer high power weapons available.
However, the only situation to these firearms being more acceptable to use than others, are the warlike
scenarios. The thought of submachine guns and assault rifles being necessary is sickening. What
would be the purpose of owning an assault rifle or submachine guns? Gun bearers

A Consensus On Our Policy Analysis Framework
In this paper I will be discussing how our class came to a consensus on our policy analysis framework.
To understand what we are attempting to accomplish, you need to understand the denotation of policy
analysis. Policy analysis is a technique used in public administration so individuals can evaluate and
scrutinize policies. Policy analysis is not only limited to policy s that are already enacted, policy
analysis can be used to analyze perspective policy s. There are already a handful of policy analysis
frameworks available for use. These include: Chambers 2009, Gilbert and Terrell 2009, Popple and
Leighninger 2004, and Dobelstein 2003. Many of the frameworks are heavily influenced by the work
of Eveline Burns, who was prevalent in the 1940 s and 1950 s. While these frameworks would have
been suitable to use for our analysis our class chose to create our own framework to help with
analysis. In these next few paragraphs I will explain how and why we chose what we did. The first
part of our policy analysis framework that we made was the goals and objectives section. We took this
specific concept from Chambers framework, although many of the other frameworks also use this
concept. The class came to a consensus as to what the definition would mean specifically. We all
chose to measure the policy s intended impact, as well as the policy s actual impact. We also agreed on
that participation in the program helps as a stepping stone for these individuals. What we mean by this

Five Steps In The Departure Of The Hero s Quest
There are five steps in the Departure of the Hero s Quest. The first step of the Departure is The Call to
Adventure. This is the point in the character s life when he realizes he is going to have to go on the
Hero Quest. Beowulf experienced The Call to Adventure when he realized what Grendel was doing to
Heorot, and he felt obligated to help King Hrothgar because he is his father s friend. The second step
of the Departure is the Refusal of the Call. The Refusal of the Call is when the hero first refuses the
call because of fear, insecurity, etc. This step is not included in Beowulf. I think the author chose to
omit this step because he wanted Beowulf to seem as heroic as possible, without refusing the quest.
The third step of the Departure is the Supernatural Aid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This step was not included in Beowulf. I think the author chose to omit this step because he wanted to
portray Beowulf as a courageous man that doesn t need supernatural help to complete the quest. The
Crossing of the First Threshold is the fourth step of the Departure. This is the part where the hero
crosses into the field of the quest, where he s venturing into an unknown kingdom. This doesn t occur
much in the first part of Beowulf s quest with the fight with Grendel. However, it occurs when
Beowulf decides to find Grendel s mother and goes into the marshes where she lives. The fifth step of
the Departure is The Belly of the Whale. This is when the hero s known world and self is separated.
This occurs in Beowulf when Beowulf decides to fight the dragon. He knew he had to fight the dragon
to keep his people safe, but he had a feeling that this would be the last battle he fought. Beowulf still

Deception In Memoirs Of A Geisha By Arthur Golden
Thesis:
In the novel, Memoirs of a Geisha, by Arthur Golden the theme of deception is prominent. Through
the deception experienced by Sayuri, golden teaches his readers that deception can hurt but it can lead
to something better.
Methods of development:
Deception from Mr. Tanaka
I couldn t stop thinking about Mr.Tanaka. He had taken me away from my mother and father, sold me
into slavery, sold my sister into something even worse. I had taken him as a kind man. I thought he
was so refined, so worldly. What a stupid child I had been. I would never go back to Yoroido, I
decided. Or if I did , it would only be to tell Mr. Tanaka how much I hated him. (Golden pg.82)
But the truth is that the afternoon when I met Mr. Tanaka Ichiro really was the best and worst of my
life. (Golden pg.7)
Sayuri admired Mr. Tanaka and wanted to become his adopted daughter, after being taken away from
her home she was extremely hurt and felt stupid for believing in him.
She felt as though her life would never be the same again, and even tried to run away risking her
chances of becoming a Geisha.
Sayuri eventually benefited from this as she herself noticed that living in Gion allowed her to become
much more successful allowing her to take care of herself. She recognized that if she had remained in
Yoroido she would have never been able to achieve success and that she would still be living in her
little tipsy house with little to support herself.

Sun Tzu Theory In The Horn Of Africa
Sun Tzu s Theory in the Horn of Africa s Security Challenge
Introduction
The greater Horn of Africa (HoA) is the sub region of the Eastern part of Africa that composed of
Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda. Threats to peace and
security are interconnected and comprised various human insecurities that emanate from both
intrastate and interstate conflict, and transnational security threats such as terrorism. This is because
political, social, and security problems in the region further threaten development efforts and
complicate interventions to alleviate, the various related challenges of the region. Mainly, Terrorism
has been a source of serious security challenge to the Horn of Africa peace and development process.
As terrorism is the main security challenge of the Horn of Africa region, Sun Tzu s theory is relevant
in the war with terrorist organizations operated in the greater Horn of Africa. For these countries could
helpful in curbing the terrorist threat, if they examine Sun Tzu s theory offensive strategy according to
the existing context of the terrorist threat. The offensive strategy first should focus on attacking the
terrorist s strategy, and then their allies because the main strength of the terrorist is the strategy they
follow. Giving priority on attacking the terrorist s strategy would eliminate fertile ground for terrorist
organizations motive. Therefore, this paper will evaluate, and analyze Sun Tzu s theory such

God s love shown brilliantly, when he robed himself in flesh, bled, died on the cross and rose again
that we may have salvation. I always think of the old hymn When he was on the cross I was on his
mind . No longer under the Law of Moses, or the dispensation of the law, but now under Grace. Once
salvation is complete we begin to further our relationship into the Spiritual Gifts. Matthew 7:11 KJV If
ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your father
which is in heaven give good things to them that ask? With 9 spiritual gifts, God would enable us with
power and authority to be able to fulfill our purpose here on earth. Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith,
Healing, Miracles, Prophecy, Discernment, Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues. With the Baptism
of the Spirit and the Spiritual Gifts, God mad sure his people were well equipped.
II. Baptism of the Holy Spirit
One important fact about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is that it is a gift. It s not something we earn,
with merit or even personal righteousness. We in our selves are never upright, good or righteous
enough to earn the Baptism of the Spirit. In the same way we would receive a gift on Christmas day
from our parents, we didn t earn that gift but they love us and give us gifts of love. The Baptism of the
Spirit is not to be earned, but received from a loving father. Therefore all that is required of us is to
receive it. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is

Reflection Paper On Therapy
Self Assessment: Therapist For my MFT 507class, I was in a group with Elizabeth and Jaime. We did
a vignette to practice what we have learned in class and imply it in the therapy session. We switched
roles and always treated each other with kindness and respect. I will refer Jaime as Debby, so there
will not be any confusion.
Impressions
I learned many things with the vignette we did in class. Active listening is important be cause it helped
Debby see that I was listening and just focusing on her. Also, it gave me the op portunity to clarify any
misunderstanding. The assessment helped me to think critically and find out the reason why Debby
came to therapy. When I was watching the video, I was impressed how easily Debby and I build a
bond. I had the same name as her daughter and that made her feel comfortable. My strength regarding
this vignette was how calmly I talked to Debby. I am able to use verbal and nonverbal behavior. For
example, I used ummm to agree with Debbie, so she can see that I am on the same track as her. This
experience makes me see this is the career I want to pursuit. The role playing as a therapist and having
a senior citizen client open my mind and see that each person are different that have different
problems. I asked Debby why she thought that everyone hates her. She just said that everyone did and
no one like her. This question was unanswered because there was not actual evidence of what she told
me. Debby was part of a senior

In Mute in An English Only World by Chang Rae Lee , the story starts off talking about the fears and
frustration of longtime residents with foreign language signs. Lee then talks about his past and his
experiences with his mother s lack of english. His mother did not know any english and was hard for
her to understand english and hard for her to have a conversation with somebody. He talks about
certain times when it was hard for his mother and gives us stories to back it up. Lee also did not know
any english yet but absorbed everything he heard at school, he would try to help his mother when he

The Conflict Of The South China Sea Threatens Us China...
The main point of the article is that the ongoing conflict in the South China Sea threatens US China
relations and, if not resolved, will lead to instability in the region. The author s solution to this is that
leaders of both countries work together to achieve a better understanding of the concerns coming from
both sides, as well as lay out consequences for certain actions and to commit themselves to avoiding
further escalation. This is tricky because neither country wants to look like it is giving in to the other,
but at the same time some concessions must be made. Recently, China announced they would be
shifting away from the dredging of land towards the construction of military bases and other facilities
for civilian use. China unilaterally started the land reclamation and now China is unilaterally stopping
it...China is showing that as a major power it can control escalation, that it has the initiative, and that it
can do what it sees fit for its interests. This is a way for them to de escalate the tension with the US
while reassuring their citizens that they did not bow to American military pressure. A Chinese official
stated that the reclamation efforts were necessary because China was feeling insecure about enhanced
US defense cooperation with other nations such as the Philippines . Allowing Japan to go on joint
patrol of the South China Sea has also aggravated China. The article makes a good point that Japan
has no territorial claims to the region, and its security

Analysis of Super Size Me
Analysis of Super Size Me
Morgan Spurlock decided to make this documentary to investigate the fast food companies, and the
effects of certain fast food chains products, particularly McDonalds, on the health of society. This
Documentary explores the United States growing epidemic of obesity and diabetes as well. Morgan
decides to eat nothing but McDonald s food for thirty days. He must eat one of everything on the
menu at least once, and when asked to super size his meal he must do so. Another stipulation of
Morgan s experiment is that he can only take 5,000 steps a day to replicate the exercise that most
average Americans get on a daily basis. He must also eat three meals a day, no exceptions and if

He was told that he might do permanent damage to his liver due to having to metabolize all of the
excess fat in his new diet. Not to my surprise, McDonalds did not want to participate in this
documentary whatsoever and did not ever give Morgan the interview that he sought after, even after
over 15 telephone calls. In a sense that obesity is a growing epidemic I think that the documentary was
fairly realistic, but who actually eats McDonalds three times a day? Morgan did say that 22% of all
McDonald s consumers were known as super heavy users, which means that they eat McDonald s
food 3 times a week or more. I think Morgan conveyed his negative opinions about the fast food
chains, particularly McDonalds very well although there may have been some dramatization. The
people who are most affected by McDonalds marketing and pricing practices are definitely kids and/or
lower budget people. The cheap food that supposedly fills you up for longer due to the long list of
ingredients in it is easy for lower income families to provide. The extent to which McDonalds is
marketed to children can be seen in the installation of playgrounds, birthday party hosting, toys with
kid s meals, Ronald McDonald the clown, and many other sly advertising techniques such as a cartoon
on TV. All of these marketing techniques lure kids in at an early age. Uneducated people are more
likely to eat at McDonalds at a larger scale because many times they are not informed of

The Controversy Of Organ Donation In China
Lawmakers should pass a motion urging China to immediately put a stop on the alleged forced organ
harvesting of Christian prisoners, according to two Canadian lawyers who brought the claims to
Australia s Parliament House.
On Monday, human rights lawyer David Matas and former prosecutor David Kilgour came to
Australia s House of Parliament claiming to have evidence of China performing between 60,000 and
100,000 organ transplants every year. The Canadian lawyers say the only plausible explanation for the
source of the harvested organs is the killing of Christians, Muslim Uighurs, Tibetan Buddhist, and
Falun gong practitioners, The Associated Press (AP) relays.
However, Matas and Kilgour did not present proof of the alleged organ sourcing. This is not the first
time that such claims have been made, but the opacity of China s legal system does not allow much
room for independent verification of the said issue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, AP notes that the extent to which the ban is implemented cannot be confirmed.
Huang Jiefu, the director of the China Organ Donation and Transplantation Committee, said China is
striving hard to increase its transparency in light of the alleged illegal organ trade in the country. He
assured the media during a conference on organ donation that all of the organ donations in their
system are voluntary, Reuters

The Music Of Electronic Dance Music
Tracing as far back as the 1940s when sound pioneers began their own movement known as musique
concrete, sampling, evolved from simple sound collage. Now it has evolved to the act of taking a
portion of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or sound recording in a different song
or piece. Today it has become an integral part of many music genres today. Samples often consist of
one part of another song, such as a lyric or rhythm break, and used to create a beat for another song.
The experimental musicians did not get permission from the artists whose work they were using or
from the copyright owner while they were using them to create their own music. It began getting
popular in hip hop when it was just played in local dance parties so they were not obligated to receive
copyright clearance in order to play this music at events. As the 1970s approached, DJs were
experimenting with vinyl by having two turntables and an audio mixer going at the same time and
manipulating them. Leading on into 1980s, electronic dance music was in the making and picking up
on sampling after being influenced by hip hop. It went on to spread to indie rock, contemporary R B,
and industrial music.
The digital sampler was invented after that to enable musicians to record any sound at the touch of a
button, making sampling simpler. Typical sample instruments consist of grand pianos, pipe organs,
violins, cellos, wind and percussion instruments. This can include voices and non traditional

Gender Equality And Gender Discrimination Essay
Gender equality? Is it really a time in modern day age when women are considered to be equal to men
or do women still have a long way to go? Throughout history men have been the dominant gender and
women have been thought to be less than the man. Men have held positions of power and authority
while women have hidden in the shadows of men. In the 21st century, women have made great strides
in attempts to be treated equally as men but are still treated differently. This modern day society
believes gender equality exists but in reality, there is clearly an inequality amongst people creating
negative stereotype gender roles, sexually degrading and gender discrimination towards women. The
21st century has seen a dramatic shift in traditional family dynamics and has pulled apart gender role
divisions. During World War II men dutifully joined the military and women went to work in the
factories, taking on occupations that were traditionally held by men. When the war ended, women
returned to their traditional roles as wives and mothers (Winograd, 2016). Women began to realize that
they too, can carry out roles of the men. As the years began to change so did the thoughts and ideas of
women. Women now believe that men and women should be treated as equals, and women have every
right to be in the position of traditional men roles. Winograd (2016) explains that women are refusing
to accept any restrictions based on their gender...on what they might be allowed to do and what

A Befriended Brother in Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
William Price is well regarded in Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. He is the brother of Fanny Price,
whom is the main character of the novel. Fanny is taken in by her uncle, Sir Thomas Bertram and
leaves her biological family, which is both unfortunate as well as fortunate for Fanny. By living with
the Bertrams, she is allowed a better education and to be raised in a higher form of etiquette due to the
fact that her family did not have as much money as the Bertrams did. The ill fated part of her story is
that she must leave her brother, William who, in the result, gains access into the navy because of his
connections with Fanny s adopted family.
Jane Austen writes a novel that both pushes at the romantic standards that women had to obey to while
also focusing on a great deal of love within the family. The love that Fanny has for her brother right
until the end of the novel is striking and heart warming. William is the older brother that every little
sister wants to look up to, he is not only an idol to Fanny but a role model to the readers of the
narrative. Austen creates characters to dislike and characters that convey emotion. Lady Bertram is
one character of which the reader s dislike does not stop for due to her mean attitude towards Fanny
and the fact that she is almost constantly sitting on the couch with her pug, which she treats as if she
loves more than her own children. Other characters, such as William, allow for the novel to not be one
of complete hate amongst

In both cases, bigger is better. The larger the operating margin and the greater the velocity, the greater
the return on invested capital. Traditionally, most companies focus on the operating margin, often
concluding they have little capability to alter their basic velocity value. Velocity itself will change only
with changes in corporate strategy including licensing and out sourcing at Porsche, or the growing
influence of in sourcing in other industries.

Porsche s problem in recent years is that it has accumulated a very large cash balance. Cash is not free;
it must be funded on the righthand side of the balance sheet. If Porsche had dispensed the excess cash
rather than retaining it, its invested capital base would not have grown, undermining its ROIC.
Porsche has one other complicating factor: it possesses a large amount of non interest bearing long
term liabilities, a feature of traditional German business practices.

Without Connection to Others There Is No Me Member of...
Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I ve ever known. Chuck Palahniuk s
quote from his book Invisible Monsters highlights that a human being is the collection of experiences,
influences and interactions of others within our lives. Palahniuk s quote express that from the moment
we are brought into the world our personality is constantly shaped and refined through the connection
of others in a predisposed attempt to gain acceptance. Being devoid of this acceptance can leave us
ostracized from society, which can leave us psychologically impaired to identify who we truly are.
The strong bonding with family defines who we are through our early stages. The community
surrounding us refines who we want to become in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This then changes as they transition into school and realize that fire has an element of danger too it.
Society then influences and refines our ideas in what we want to achieve and we then follow the most
acceptable occupation that we believe expresses our individualism. Although identity is shaped by
commitments and relationships within the confines of societies pressures, a select few stray off the
path of connecting with others which either leads to loneliness of second guessing of one s true
identities and connections.
The majorities of humans are shaped for the better through early life and are therefore refined through
society to find a place within the community. However there are cases where the early life influences
are absent and aren t able to give the crucial acceptance from an early age. This leads to abandonment
issues that make it exceedingly difficult to find a place within society. In Louis Nowra s Member of
the wedding we are shown a prominent example of the detrimental effects of not being accepted. The
protagonist Frankie had a mother that passed away and has a workaholic father who spends little to no
time with at home leaving her with no sense of acceptance and struggling in finding who she is. She
doesn t connect with the world outside and due to her inner conflict she creates a new me in attempt to
connect . F. Jasmine, her new persona, is her attempt of proving she no longer needs to acceptance at
home as she can be accepted in the adult

Braids are a fantastic way to add texture and interest to a look. Although they look intricate and
complicated, most braids are easy enough to duplicate yourself. However, if you are wanting a
particularly impressive braid or one that is more formal in nature, a trip to the salon is likely in order.

The Kite Runner Marxist Lense Paper
In the book The Kite Runner, original social status is proven to create barriers in life regarding the
aspects of friendship, mindset, and adaptation to change as we observe Baba s and Amir s life journeys
in order to discover how it affects these aspects. Amir s friendship with his hazara servant s son
Hassan takes a sudden toll as he ultimately comes to believe that traditional and historical beliefs
outweighed true friendship as he was a young child. The mindset of Baba does not adjust when he and
Amir are forced to move to America, as he still believes he possesses the same amount of power as he
did in Afghanistan. While living in America, Baba never fully adapts to the American culture and way
of life as he continues to live and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One day Asseff rapes Hassan as an act of power, and Amir witnesses the actions but acts in a cowardly
matter and simply avoids the matter by ignoring it. Amir then proceeds to cut off the relationships
between himself and Hassan, I actually aspired to cowardice, but the real reason I was running, was
that Asseff was right. Nothing was free in this world. Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the
lamb I had to slay to win Baba. Was it a fair price? The answer floated to my conscious mind before I
could thwart it: He was just a Hazara. Wasn t he? Amir did it because the traditional and historical
beliefs were more important than friendship. This action displays how being born in a different social
class can outweigh all feelings of love and friendship with one of a different social group.
As the war in Afghanistan begins, Baba and Amir flee to America where they went from being at the
top of the social pyramid, to starting again at the very bottom. Baba s mindset however, remains the
same throughout his whole life. Back in Afghanistan, Baba was very proud of his possessions and the
ability to afford so many luxuries, as he often would show off his fancy mustang which he bought
prior to seeing it in a movie, Then, Baba and I drove off in his black Ford Mustang a car that drew
envious looks everywhere because it was the same car Steve McQueen had driven in Bullitt, a film
that played in one theater for six months.. . When Baba and Amir get to America,

Challenges Facing Indigenous Latin Americans
Smith discusses how important advances have been made over the past four decades in improving
both the living and the political conditions for many of Latin America s indigenous peoples. Chase
Smith discusses five major challenges facing Indigenous Latin Americans. Three of which will be
discussed in this report. Firstly, there are many challenges regarding territory and resources. Smith
states that since the beginning of European colonial domination in the Americas, that Indigenous
peoples have suffered and protested the continual loss of access to their land and resources in order to
their place in this world. The twentieth century brought political and organizational innovations to
support indigenous peoples attempts to recover and insure access to resources. Chase uses the example
of Brazil, the Andean Amazon and parts of Central America, in which, the Indigenous peoples
demands now focus on state recognition of their collective rights to a territory, which includes subsoil
and surface resources. Smith emphasized that Latin American republics has usually limited the
recognition of territorial rights for Indigenous peoples to those populations that are defined by law as
indigenous. This often leaves out and marginalizes large Indigenous populations catalogued as peasant
or as mestizo . According to Smith, this idea leaves out two important outcomes of those debates that
go hand in hand. One being that all human beings have the right to define for themselves

  • 5. The Discovery Of The Scientist s The Technologists, Along... Before MIT was founded in 1861, the common take on knowledge was quite different than that of our modern day. Education was primarily for a wealthy upper class, who regardless of work ethic or true intelligence, had safety nets of incredibly well off families often with money to spare. As noted in Matthew Pearl s The Technologists, along with Bruce Sinclair and Merritt Roe Smiths articles on MIT s foundation, Harvard and other schools for this elite class focused on a purely knowledge based learning system; while MIT attempted to introduce a more technical education combining pure science along with practical applications of technology, thus ushering in a new style of technical education. In 1861, founder William Rodgers, chartered one of the first technical schools in MIT. While growing up a geologist, in 1831, Rodgers began contemplation the connections between pure science and its applications to engineering (Smith 16), which little to his knowledge, would be the basis of a new institution. When Rodgers decided to introduce the idea for a technical institute, he had already mapped out a path for the curriculum and its basis. Introduced and now known as the New Education , Rodgers s idea, set forth by Charles W. Eliot, brought on an entirely new technical education that had almost never been seen before. Rodgers s idea, along with Eliot s, changed the way many viewed education of the sciences and applied technologies. With a majority of the wealthy population attending ... • 6. Application Of A Desktop Study Desktop Study A desktop study, as its name implies, can be done entirely from a computer and is often the first step in preliminary site investigations. The process of a desktop study involves correlating background information about the site that will affect the design and construction; from a desk study a large amount of relevant information can be gathered, such as: local context (i.e. what is near to the site, the aesthetic of the surrounding buildings); archaeology (beneath the surface of a site there may be unexploded bombs, remnants of old structures etc.); easements (the rights attached to neighbouring lands, for example right to light); the likelihood of contaminated soil (which we know we do have on our site); site ecology (the surrounding environment and how it coexists together). Having this knowledge of the site before any work has begun allows for easier planning later as obstacles that could have been a costly surprise later can be solved with much better efficiency. The process of a desktop study could also involve looking at OS (ordnance survey) maps of the site which can reveal the previous usage of the site as well as drainage and much more. Geological maps can show what the ground conditions are like on site and if there is any risk of, for example, subsidence occurring or if it already has. Service maps can be inspected to find hidden services, for example telephone cables or drainage. The findings of previous surveys, if they exist, can also be found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. What Is The Theme Of Frozen River In the movie Frozen River portrays two women struggling to get by. One of the women lives near an Indian reservation, Ray Eddy, while the other, Lila Littlewolf, lives in the reservation. Lila has been smuggling people over the border from Canada to the United States before, while Ray comes into contact with Lila and is forced to transport people from Canada to the United States. It is shown that it is not hard to transport people from both sides of the border, due to the reservation being on both sides of the border, which is separated by the river. Thus when the river is frozen they can pass it with a car and pass without being checked by troopers, as it is still part of the reservation. When Ray realizes that there can be made quite some money with the smuggling, which she needs, as her husband left her with all their money, Ray goes back to Lila and thus comes into contact with someone in a reservation and thus with the American Indian culture. ... • 11. The Big Short The Big Short Report One of the topics I found most interesting in this book was the differences between the stock market and the bond market that Michael Lewis to some extent explains in the beginning of chapter three. While the stock market was intensely regulated and mostly transparent, the bond market consisted of primarily large institutions and escaped serious regulation. This lack of legislative control played a great part in allowing the credit default swaps on subprime mortgage bonds, CDO s, and the eventual collapse of the subprime market. Following the subprime mortgage crisis, the Department of the Treasury released a new regulatory plan, The Department of the Treasury Blueprint for a Modernized Financial Regulatory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the Paulson Plan held off a major financial crisis and attempted to address many of the issues that were the cause of the crisis, improvements could have been made that would have a more lasting positive effect on the American financial system. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, the plan needed to achieve at three objectives. It needed to prevent a deep and prolonged recession, achieve that first objective at the lowest possible costs to the U.S. taxpayer, and it should not bail out the existing investors. As stated in the article, the Treasury plan addresses only the first objective, and only indirectly. While the article gave many suggestions for improving the plan, perhaps the most useful was the recommendation to require all regulated financial institutions to raise 2% of their assets in additional capital to preserve the stability of the financial system. This mandate should ensure that no individual bank sends an adverse signal to the market, which should cause investors to not lose confidence in the banks. Another key event described in The Big Short, was when American International Group found a way to insure subprime mortgage loans while being able to bury these risks on its balance sheet. This was made possible by the fact that AIG was a triple A rated corporation with an enormous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Zoos And The Best Interest Of The Animals Essay Nowadays, you can find a zoo in any state. They are continuing to pop up everywhere, which raises the debate surrounding whether zoos are actually beneficial or if they serve a purpose at all. However the argument that zoos provide a way to observe, learn, and for entertainment purposes may not always be in the best interest of the animals. As there are far more negative view points against the value of zoos, such as the use of whips electric prods, and other blunt instruments. By doing so forces innocent animals to do as humans say and what they want only for the pleasure of pleasing a crowd. The provided statistics and facts show just how wrong and completely cruel keeping animals in captivity is not right in anyway. Unfortunately, zoos cannot provide adequate space necessary for animals to roam freely and possesses an overabundance of breeding, with minimal room for offspring. Although, zoos may be used for several reasons such as: Wildlife observation, for educational purpose, conservation of near endangered species, and for entertainment. Further, even if an animal is facing extinction zoos have no right to capture, confined, and breed an animal. These awful places say they are educating the community. When in reality they are just trapping animals and forcing them to live in captivity for a profit. • 14. Essay on Gun Control Rights One of many controversial topics in the United States is gun control. It is clearly written in the Second Amendment of the Constitution that the people will have the right to bear arms. Recently; however, people have been misusing those firearms and have been harming others with them. The government is trying to regulate the sale, distribution, and ownership of guns because of this reason. Some of the arguments being made by the politicians is simply if the government has the right to be able to control, and if it does, the effectiveness of the public policy to regulate guns. The importance of gun control as a health issue is a necessity. Each year, the United States has a bit over 8,000 murders with firearms (Wilblin 1) The US ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also prohibits the ammunition feeding devices for these semiautomatic weapons. (Fienstein 1). With this being said, the FAWB is an act that supports gun control instead of bearing arms. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The constitution is clearly saying all citizens have the right to be able to own and carry a weapon or firearm. On June 26, 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, the United States Supreme Court held in a 5 4 decision that the Second Amendment protects an individual s right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defense within the home and within federal enclaves (Cornell 1). This is showing how our founding fathers supported the right to bear arms. Ownership of certain weapons should be prohibited. Assault rifles and submachine guns are firearms that are never necessary. The United States should set a goal to having fewer high power weapons available. However, the only situation to these firearms being more acceptable to use than others, are the warlike scenarios. The thought of submachine guns and assault rifles being necessary is sickening. What would be the purpose of owning an assault rifle or submachine guns? Gun bearers ... To understand what we are attempting to accomplish, you need to understand the denotation of policy analysis. Policy analysis is a technique used in public administration so individuals can evaluate and scrutinize policies. Policy analysis is not only limited to policy s that are already enacted, policy analysis can be used to analyze perspective policy s. There are already a handful of policy analysis frameworks available for use. These include: Chambers 2009, Gilbert and Terrell 2009, Popple and Leighninger 2004, and Dobelstein 2003. Many of the frameworks are heavily influenced by the work of Eveline Burns, who was prevalent in the 1940 s and 1950 s. While these frameworks would have been suitable to use for our analysis our class chose to create our own framework to help with analysis. In these next few paragraphs I will explain how and why we chose what we did. The first part of our policy analysis framework that we made was the goals and objectives section. We took this specific concept from Chambers framework, although many of the other frameworks also use this concept. The class came to a consensus as to what the definition would mean specifically. We all chose to measure the policy s intended impact, as well as the policy s actual impact. We also agreed on that participation in the program helps as a stepping stone for these individuals. Active listening is important be cause it helped Debby see that I was listening and just focusing on her. Also, it gave me the op portunity to clarify any misunderstanding. • 26. The Conflict Of The South China Sea Threatens Us China... The main point of the article is that the ongoing conflict in the South China Sea threatens US China relations and, if not resolved, will lead to instability in the region. The author s solution to this is that leaders of both countries work together to achieve a better understanding of the concerns coming from both sides, as well as lay out consequences for certain actions and to commit themselves to avoiding further escalation. This is tricky because neither country wants to look like it is giving in to the other, but at the same time some concessions must be made. Recently, China announced they would be shifting away from the dredging of land towards the construction of military bases and other facilities for civilian use. China unilaterally started the land reclamation and now China is unilaterally stopping it...China is showing that as a major power it can control escalation, that it has the initiative, and that it can do what it sees fit for its interests. This is a way for them to de escalate the tension with the US while reassuring their citizens that they did not bow to American military pressure. A Chinese official stated that the reclamation efforts were necessary because China was feeling insecure about enhanced US defense cooperation with other nations such as the Philippines . Allowing Japan to go on joint patrol of the South China Sea has also aggravated China. The article makes a good point that Japan has no territorial claims to the region, and its security ... In a sense that obesity is a growing epidemic I think that the documentary was fairly realistic, but who actually eats McDonalds three times a day? Morgan did say that 22% of all McDonald s consumers were known as super heavy users, which means that they eat McDonald s food 3 times a week or more. I think Morgan conveyed his negative opinions about the fast food chains, particularly McDonalds very well although there may have been some dramatization. The people who are most affected by McDonalds marketing and pricing practices are definitely kids and/or lower budget people. The cheap food that supposedly fills you up for longer due to the long list of ingredients in it is easy for lower income families to provide. The extent to which McDonalds is marketed to children can be seen in the installation of playgrounds, birthday party hosting, toys with kid s meals, Ronald McDonald the clown, and many other sly advertising techniques such as a cartoon on TV. • 29. The Music Of Electronic Dance Music Tracing as far back as the 1940s when sound pioneers began their own movement known as musique concrete, sampling, evolved from simple sound collage. Now it has evolved to the act of taking a portion of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or sound recording in a different song or piece. Today it has become an integral part of many music genres today. Samples often consist of one part of another song, such as a lyric or rhythm break, and used to create a beat for another song. The experimental musicians did not get permission from the artists whose work they were using or from the copyright owner while they were using them to create their own music. It began getting popular in hip hop when it was just played in local dance parties so they were not obligated to receive copyright clearance in order to play this music at events. As the 1970s approached, DJs were experimenting with vinyl by having two turntables and an audio mixer going at the same time and manipulating them. Leading on into 1980s, electronic dance music was in the making and picking up on sampling after being influenced by hip hop. It went on to spread to indie rock, contemporary R B, and industrial music. The digital sampler was invented after that to enable musicians to record any sound at the touch of a button, making sampling simpler. • 30. Gender Equality And Gender Discrimination Essay Gender equality? Is it really a time in modern day age when women are considered to be equal to men or do women still have a long way to go? Throughout history men have been the dominant gender and women have been thought to be less than the man. Men have held positions of power and authority while women have hidden in the shadows of men. In the 21st century, women have made great strides in attempts to be treated equally as men but are still treated differently. This modern day society believes gender equality exists but in reality, there is clearly an inequality amongst people creating negative stereotype gender roles, sexually degrading and gender discrimination towards women. The 21st century has seen a dramatic shift in traditional family dynamics and has pulled apart gender role divisions. During World War II men dutifully joined the military and women went to work in the factories, taking on occupations that were traditionally held by men. When the war ended, women returned to their traditional roles as wives and mothers (Winograd, 2016). Women began to realize that they too, can carry out roles of the men. As the years began to change so did the thoughts and ideas of women.
