Alicia Moore (Pink) Essays
Alicia Moore (Pink)
Alicia Moore, or Pink as she is better known, has become a music sensation around the United States.
My reason for choosing her as a topic is the fact that she was born and raised in Doylestown,
Pennsylvania my hometown. Doylestown is about an hour northeast of Philadelphia, and it s easy to
take note of anyone famous who comes out of D Town, as it is called, because it is not the largest of
areas. Pink went to the rival high school of mine, Central Bucks High School West, and I actually
know a few people who knew her as Alicia Moore through various activities.
Pink had a very rough childhood. She wanted to leave her house and envisioned a better life for
herself when she was growing up. I was screwed up, lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also began to spend a lot of time in the city of Philadelphia at different dance clubs.
Her frequent visiting of the clubbing scene was actually how she got noticed. She landed a Friday
night singing spot at Club Fever. A talent scout spotted her there one night and signed her up for an R
B group. The R B group quickly fell apart, but Pink was determined, and was able to find another
group to join. That second group was picked up by LaFace Records, and eventually the label signed
Pink as a solo artist and her first album Can t Take Me Home was produced.
Two million albums and three top 40 singles later, Pink was asked to do the remake of LaBelle s 1975
#1 hit, Lady Marmalade, for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, along with well known artists Christina
Aguilera, Lil Kim and Mya. Their compilation song shot to the top of the charts, and, with an award
winning, truly cabaret type, video to match, sent Pink and her powerful soprano to a world stage.
Pink has recently released a second album Missundaztood, which has already reach number eight on
the Top 200 album charts. There is even a new single, Get The Party Started which has hit number
four on the Top 100 Singles.
With Pink now dominating the airwaves she finds herself dogged by questions about certain other big
name musical talents. She addresses this issue directly on the very rock sounding new cut Don t

Searle s Ideas
When Searle talks about institutional facts I believe that he has great insight into the way people take
items and place values on them. These values are universally accepted and become a social reality in
our social world. These social realities have functions that man has assigned to them to dictate what
they are intended to do. I will walk through Searle s features needed in a social reality and it will
become clear that all social realities have these features. But where Searle ideas are flawed is when he
says that there are no functions found in nature, and it is also my aim to expose this flaw in his
foundation of his ideas of social reality. I believe that for social reality to have Searle s posited
features makes sense, but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the function of the university would be to educate students and the function of
government would be to govern people. But Searle tries and makes everything that has functionality
relative to a system of values (Searle, 15.) He also says that functions...are always observer relative
(Searle, 14.) With these statements, he is saying that all things that have functions are imposed by the
person that is observing the function and that no function is ever intrinsic or found in nature. To
further his point he gives an example that by our observation we can say that the heart pumps blood,
[but we cannot say that]...the function of the heart is to pump blood (Searle, 14.) This is because we
would be imposing our subjective value on what we see the heart doing because we value life over
death. My problem with this thinking is that the heart must be alive to pump blood, which is its normal
state, and if I did value death over life, then the heart would die and decompose into a matter that is
not a heart. Therefore the heart in its natural state is alive and pumping blood, which means that the
function of the heart is to pump blood (Searle, 14.) This is the same when we say that the function of
the eyes is to see,

This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up in a small town the
one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At least, that s how it is for the youth of
the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you might realize
that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s revenue for
different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different projects that will
really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has grown tremendously
within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to host a state tournament.
Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not best suited for a tournament
of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new sports complex for all of the
youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting this tournament. Out of sixty
three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the
teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because the hotels that are located in Sallisaw
did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would rather make a thirty minute commute than
stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The next project Sallisaw is undertaking is
bringing in a well known hotel

Analysis of Chapter 2 Transtition and Change and Chapter 3...
This week s reading starts with a Chapter 2 Transition and Change. After reviewing the chapter for a
second time there were a few nuggets that stood out to the reader, nuggets that would be very
beneficial to be mindful of when assisting family businesses with transitions and changes. As stated
last week the Godrej Group provides four characteristics of a family firm that will help protect the
sources of their past success and at the same time, seek needed innovation. (Schuman, A., Stutz, S.,
Ward, J.L. 2012, p. 38). This concept includes the complex successor dilemmas. This component was
best summarized by a quote from Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh which states Change does not
change tradition. It strengthens it. Change is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the family business it so new, family paradoxes like making time for family trips and
vacations may arise. For the 2nd generation the family business is more family focused. The
paradoxes that arise are often regarding whether the revenues should be used to give family members
larger salaries or update equipment. The 3rd generation is often more business focus, but it s focus is
extremely different from G1. This third generation is often searching for way to include all the
members of the founding family and their unique skill sets to expand the brand, oversee the
philanthropy activities and handle other areas of the family business besides production. The reading
shows that the family priorities for G1 is roots and wings, for G2 is work and home, and for G3 is
loyalty and freedom. The key impact areas of strategic choice for G1 is action and planning, for G2 is
opportunistic and core, and for G3 is invest and harvest. The key impact areas of management
philosophy for G1 is expedience and patience, for G2 is task and process, for G3 is privacy and
transparency. The key impact areas of decision making for G1 is control and trust, for G2 is individual
and collective and for G3 is formal and informal. The key impact areas of ownership focus for G1 is
proprietorship and stewardship, G2 is merit and equality and for G3 is one family and individual

The Death Of A Child
The death of a child is experienced with great resistance because it is understood as an interruption in
the life cycle often seen as untimely and unfair. Pediatric nurses care for children in high mortality
environments, such as the pediatric intensive care and oncology units and, as a result, are directly
affected by childhood death (Papadatou, 2000). Caring for a dying child and their family is an
emotionally charged situation (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2000; Catlin and Carter, 2001; Stutts
and Schloemann, 2002). Nurses spend much time caring for their patients but forget to look after
themselves. Caring for the nurse is an often forgotten component of nursing that can affect quality of
care. Exploring the nurse s experience in caring for a dying child will help to identify effective coping
strategies. It has been suggested that effective coping strategies are crucial in prevention of burnout
and damage to overall emotional health (Hinds, Oakes, Hicks, Anghelescu, 2005). The findings of this
project will provide an opportunity to create a broad picture of how nurses cope and behave when
caring for a dying child.
Methodology
A search of the literature was performed in the following databases: CINAHL, the Cochrane Library,
EBSCO, MEDLINE, and PubMed. The subject terms and keywords used included: dying OR terminal

Plato s Meno Constructs
In Meno, Plato argues that because information cannot be learned, but is instead recollected, then
learning is impossible. Plato constructs this claim by arguing:
(1) Either one already knows what one wants to learn, or one does not already know what one wants
to learn. (Premise)
(2) If one already knows what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise)
(3) If one does not already know what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise)
(4) Therefore, learning is impossible (CD,2,3)
The argument is valid, because the conclusion (4) can be derived from (2) and (3) using the
constructive dilemma rule. Plato s first premise appears to be true. In the

Social Media Negative Essay
How much time do people spend on a cell phone or computer daily? What percentage of that time is
consumed doing things other than scrolling through Instagram, twitter, and Facebook feeds or snap
chatting peers? Seventy three percent of wired teens use social media websites (PEW research center).
We live in a society where social media dominates a vast majority of our life. Individuals of the 21st
century are deemed as good or bad friends based on liking a peers photo. Social media provides
individuals with instant gratification as they see the innumerable amount of likes piling up on their
home screens instantly after posting pictures. Vanessa Lapointe, through a relatable series of
emotional developments, targets teens and families caught up in social media to inform them about the
dangers of tech based social apps and the vitality of monitoring what we say, do, and like. Our actions,
although they may seem immensely minuscule, have large implications. Lapointe, therefore,
effectively uses pathos to target parents who are concerned about the effects of social media on their
children s futures. Lapointe utilizes pathos, a type of emotional appeal, as she presents an analogy
between addiction and health to social media dangers in order to effectively grab the attention of
parents. Lapointe argues, we can t get enough of it because it gives us these instant hits of that social
connectivity that we quite literally need. The problem is that it will never fully satiate our

Lycidas Poem Analysis
The Crisis of Lycidas Absent Body
Lycidas is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend Lycidas, a
fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem progresses, the
figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes overwhelmed by the
various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices those of Phoebus and St. Peter, for
instance interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of Lycidas marks the poem s return to its elegiac intent
as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments Lycidas absent body, a recurring element
which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the speaker to properly mourn and accept
Lycidas death.
The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, Return, Alpheus (132), Alpheus being a river in Arcadia
whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent Greek
pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that the dread voice is past (132)
the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the speaker s voice
with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken over by Neptune s
herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move away from Lycidas
to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that mentions Lycidas, or
Lycid (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the Sicilian Muse (133), the speaker recognizes that
the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it.
The speaker first does this by invoking the Sicilian Muse to call the vales (134) to gather a plants and
flowers to adorn Lycidas dead body. The speaker specifically calls for primrose, crowtoe, jessamine,
pansies, violets, woodbine, cowslips, amaranthus, daffodils, and laurels. (142 47,149 150)The laurels
are significant as an emblem of poetry and its presence on Lycidas hearse (151) praises him for his
poetry, but there is a sense of sadness and grief embedded within the floral imagery. When the speaker
mentions the rathe primrose (142), a flower that blooms early

Who Is Sydney Carton A Hero
Sydney Carton s main role in the book was to be the complete opposite of Charles Darnay. He was in

Everything Carton did in the book was based on Lucy and how it would affect their relationship.
Throughout the book Carton realizes that he doesn t stand a chance with Lucy, but still does

Carton wouldn t be considered a hero. You could say he just took his life because he thought was
useless to this world and nothing he could do to change it. But you could also make a strong case for
Carton to be considered a hero. At the end of the book, Carton gave up his life so Charles Darnay
could live. Darnay was sent to court right when him and Lucie got back to England. After Carton hear
the news he thought maybe there was a chance Lucie would end up with him if Darnay got killed.
After realizing that Lucie wasn t going to want him regardless, he wanted to do what was best for
Lucie. He then went and talked to Lucie and Dr. Monnet about his plan. He was going to switch spots
with Darnay so they could put him to death and not Darnay. At first they thought it was going to be
very difficult for them to pull it off, but they managed to do it. He was able to do this because him and
Darnay look just alike. He did this because he came to the realization that him and Lucie were never

Historical Cultural Context On The City Of Corinth
INTRODUCTION
1 Corinthians 1:18 25, in many ways offers a measuring stick for what true wisdom and power is,
according to Scripture. While the believers in Corinth are looking for, and claiming to have, true
wisdom and power, Paul addresses the issue and makes it clear that true wisdom and power are found
in Christ and in the message of the cross. In no uncertain terms, Paul states that the wisdom of the
world is lacking and is unable to save those who are perishing. But, the so called foolishness of God
has the power to save those who believe, and is found only in the cross of Jesus Christ. While Jews
and Greeks alike are searching for that which saves, Paul makes it clear that salvation is not found in
the wisdom and power of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of its beneficial geographical location, Corinth was extremely prosperous, and that financial
prosperity led to ever increasing moral corruption. While most Greco Roman cities were marked with
immorality, Corinth seemed to rise above the rest in this particular area. Even by the pagan standards
of its own culture, Corinth became so morally corrupt that its very name became synonymous with
debauchery and moral depravity.
LITERARY CONTEXT The first letter to the Corinthians as a whole alternates between responses to
reports and answers to questions from the church, and 1 Corinthians 1:18 25 is found in the beginning
of Paul s first response to reports dealing with factions and divisions within the body of believers. The
previous section of the letter is the introduction and Paul s note of thanks for the Corinthian believers.
There is a distinct note of commendation and love in the first section before Paul begins to condemn
and exhort the Corinthians for their poor behavior. Much of this behavior is linked to their boasting
about their wisdom, or the wisdom of those whom they choose to follow. Therefore, much of Paul s
teaching is in relation to true wisdom, as opposed to worldly wisdom. Paul continues to address the
issue of factions in the church by further concentrating on the issue of wisdom, before he begins
approaching other issues from the report in chapters 5 and 6. Following this, Paul begins to address
the questions posed by the

Anorexia And Bulimia Outline
1.) Eating disorders are self critical, negative thoughts and feelings about body weight and food. This
results in eating habits that disrupts normal body function. There are two types of eating disorders,
anorexia and bulimia. Anorexia gives an extreme fear of weight gain and a distorted view of their
body size and shape. Bulimia gives people habitual binge eating and will make them purge. 2.) It is
unsure of what causes eating disorders, but it is suspected that psychological, genetic, social, and
family factors are thought to be a cause. Eating disorders can be prevented by constantly saying I m

Civil Service Thesis
Civil service is a great thing for America, however, all future United State high school graduates
should not be forced to spend one year after high school in service. The reasons I think this include
these high school graduates should be able to make their own decisions, college is a great path
immediately following high school and finally forced service would lead to lack of motivation for
workers. These points argue that joining the civil services is an obstacle, preventing these kids from
pursuing their dreams.

Theme Of War In A Farewell To Arms
Ernest Hemingway s novel A Farewell to Arms covers a romance that takes place during World War I.
The novel itself came out shortly after the war, and was the first of Hemingway s books to become a
best seller. Essentially, the novel contrasts the horrors of war with the romance of Henry and
Catherine. Throughout the plot, Hemingway, a World War I veteran himself, uses the events of the
book to make a statement about his thoughts on war. The core message of Hemingway s A Farewell to
Arms is that war damages the soldiers who fight in it both physically and emotionally, which is
primarily illustrated by the number of deaths caused directly and indirectly by the war, the actions
Henry is forced to take over the course of the book, and Henry s growing cynicism towards war. The
first piece of evidence supporting this theme is the deaths caused by the war, especially those
important to Henry. Directly, soldiers are killed in battle, from being shot by enemies, hit by mortar
shells, or in one case, shot by their own allies. When Henry and his companions are separated from the
Italian army and try to get back to the main forces, as they attempt to cross an embankment, Two more
shots came from the thick brush and Aymo, as he was crossing the tracks, lurched, tripped and fell
face down (Hemingway 213). Henry believes the Italian soldiers were the ones who fired the shots,
saying, We are in more danger from Italians than Germans. The rear guard are afraid of everything.

By the time they looked down to see what it was, the grenade went off. It instantly killed the four
guards and sent everyone else flying backwards from where they were. As for Lincoln he went flying
back into a tower of large boxes. It hurt. He was now on his knees, feeling quite groggy and struggling
to get back his hearing.
Just after the grenade, another device came bouncing in from the back of the truck. This one was
spurting out smoke. Some sort of smoke bomb! Within seconds the whole room was ... Show more

The goggles, Lincoln guessed would have allowed him to see easily in the smoke and the mask might
have been a gas mask. Lincoln could not tell. He resisted the urge again to fire. The soldier also did
not fire but bent over him and pulled his head back.
Got him over here! was what he said next. Then another military person appeared out of the mist and
the two of them grabbed Lincoln by the shoulders and literally dragged him towards the truck. Lincoln
was still groggy enough not to be able to resist. One of them grabbed his gun before he could do
anything.
Lincoln s only course of action now was to remain as still as possible. His feet dragged along the floor
until they all got to the truck. The two soldiers then took him down the stairs to the front of the truck.
They opened the door and flung him in. Lincoln was about to jump out again when one of them pulled
his rifle around and pointed it at him. Lincoln got back in and sat quietly.
After a moment or two, a soldier got in on the driver s side and another jumped into the passenger
side. Lincoln noted that one was a little short for a soldier. He was now surrounded by these soldiers
with no hope of escaping. The truck sped off down the alleyway and into the street.
Lincoln was slowly regaining his senses. He still thought this was an illusion but it suddenly occurred
to him that he was out of the warehouse. Maybe his mind manifested this scenario. He was

The Social Organization of Singapore
Social Organization of Singapore

My research will be based on Political, Economic, and Social Organization of Singapore an
industrialist city state. Even though Singapore s history dates from the 11th century, the island was
little known to the West until the 19th century. Singapore is one of the World s largest ports, because
the city of Singapore has become a major port, with trade exceeding that of Malaya s, Malacca and
Penang combined. The opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 and the advent of steamships launched an
era of prosperity for Singapore as transit trade expanded throughout Southeast Asia (Bureau of East

This triangle would prove to be a good move for the three countries, but with free trade agreements
(FTAs) and close economic partnerships (CEPs) coming onto the scene, the growth triangles
introduced in the 80 s looked as if they may have competition in the economic realm, but GTs
continue to be at the tip of the spear due to the cooperation between the three are still very productive
for them all. With all three countries being relatively close together, costs are minimal. Not to
mention, this export oriented cooperation is still attractive to foreign trading (Heng, 2006, pg. 1). The
pioneering GT in Southeast Asia is that of the IMS GT, and its evolution is very much tied to the
economic development of the Singapore economy (Toh amp; Low, 1993, Kakazu, 1997). There are
five GT s in existence and GT s are highly regarded by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN). There were two major happenings that temporarily effected Singapore s economy between
2001 and 2003 the worldwide electronics slump and the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory

pharmaceuticals, other manufactured goods, and financial services. The return was mostly contributed

China, as well as expanding emerging markets such as India (Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs,

Automated Guided Vehicle Or Automatic Guided Vehicles
Automated Guidance
An automated guided vehicle or automatic guided vehicle (AGV) is essentially a vehicle that follows
markers or wires in the floor, or uses vision, magnets, or lasers for navigation. They are most often
used in industrial applications to move materials around a manufacturing facility or warehouse.
Application of the automatic guided vehicle has broadened during the late 20th century.
The AGV can tow objects behind them in trailers to which they can autonomously attach. The trailers
can be used to move raw materials or finished product. The AGV can also store objects on a bed. The
objects can be placed on a set of motorized rollers (conveyor) and then pushed off by reversing them.
AGVs are employed in nearly every industry, including, pulp, paper, metals, newspaper, and general
manufacturing. Transporting materials such as food, linen or medicine in hospitals is also done.
An AGV can also be called a laser guided vehicle (LGV). Lower cost versions of AGVs are often
called Automated Guided Carts (AGCs) and are usually guided by magnetic tape. AGCs are available
in a variety of models and can be used to move products on an assembly line, transport goods
throughout a plant or warehouse, and deliver loads.
Over the years, the technology has become more sophisticated, this technology can be suitably
adapted for cars on the streets. In an automated process, AGVs are programmed to communicate with
other cars on the street to ensure it is moving smoothly. Today, the

Speech About Fat Cats
Fat cats are cute... there.. I said it. I feel so much better. But despite their adorableness, excess weight
can cause a whole host of problems for your furry little friend, so it s important to know how to slim
down an overweight cat. There are plenty of things you can do to help your kitty achieve his ideal
weight; however, some are easier than others, as cats can be both impossibly smart and incredibly
stubborn. So today we will discuss a few things you can do to easily help your kitty shed those
pounds.
An Important Visit
First things first, if you haven t already, it s a good idea to take a trip to the vet. Although weight

Cats are impossibly finicky this is probably not news to you. However, you may or may not have
noticed that a lot of cats will go on something akin to a hunger strike if they don t like their food. That
being said, it is very important to ensure that your cat is getting in some food, even if it s smaller

If you re finding that the diet food just isn t cutting it, and your cat simply isn t satisfied with smaller

Consequences Of Antecedent Analysis
An antecedent is a thing or event that existed before. In healthcare, an antecedent refers to an
occurrence that precedes an event. Without the antecedents, caregivers will not be able to provide

event. Consequences are events that occur as a result of the concept. Antecedents and consequences

It s Time to Abolish The Penny! Essay
Between 2001 and 2006, there has been an increase of .6 cents for the reproduction of the penny. This
increase displays economic problems that may lead to fatal ones. The penny is composed of 2%
copper and 98% zinc. These elements are exponentially in demand causing the price of these materials
to skyrocket. Many Americans think the penny is putting our country in jeopardy with financial losses.
This meaningless coin is losing money for the mint, and should be abolished. The penny costs 1.4
cents to manufacture each time at the mint. This is causing the mint to lose money for the treasury.
Last year, the mint earned $730 million dollars in profit. Many mint officials claim the estimation will

This averages to about 1210 pennies per person in the United States. These numbers are just simply
preposterous. A majority of these Lincolns have probably been trashed, thrown on the ground or
located in unknown areas of homes and apartments. The penny is practically worthless to many people
in our country. In a Gallup Poll of 1,002 adults conducted from June 11 of this year displayed
shocking results. Nearly 75% of those adults would stop and pick a penny that is present on the
ground. About 40% of men and 35% of women would walk passed a penny that is on any type of
surface. This poll also found that 58 percent of Americans stash their pennies in piggy banks, jars and
drawers. Some Americans redeem their cents at banks or coin counting machines, but 2 percent
admitted they toss them into the trash. They consider the penny a nuisance to many fellow Americans.
This sentiment has been growing through recent years. The penny is basically obsolete and should be
removed from American currency. Many penny supporters think there is not an inflation with the
economy. The cent doesn t buy anything in today s market. It is merely a token used to make odd
change during cash purchases. The customer may have to use the, Leave a penny, take a penny bowl

A M Records Vs. Napster
A M Records v. Napster is a landmark case in which the application of intellectual property laws has
forever impacted contemporary culture with regards to digital works. The legal issues and applicable
laws presented in the instant case resulted in a holding, which set forth a precedent that has influence
the mode and means of digital works distribution. The outcome of Napster affects both businesses and
individuals. Napster, a free online file sharing network, allowed peers to share digital files directly
with each other by way of connections through its software and system. The no cost peer to peer
sharing gained popularity, particularly with trendy music. A M Records took notice of the free digital
music downloads and brought suit against Napster for direct, contributory, and vicarious copyright
infringements (Washington University School of Law, 2013). First, it is important to discuss the direct,
contributory and vicarious infringement claims against Napster. Direct copyright infringement claims
are based on a breach of a copyright owners exclusive rights to the copyrighted work(s). A M Records,

INTRODUCTION
The gender division in the food preparation has an atavistic stigma. Men hunted and acquired meat;
women were preparing meat at home and served it to the family. All primitive communities are
characterised by the subordinate role of woman. Food in Douglas classification theory has been linked
with rituals which adherence prevents the chaos and the social destruction. Deep divide between
gender roles in the patriarchal model of society, became a precondition of social order. Douglas (1971)
This rule still applies to the present society and the kitchen becomes probably the last battlefield of

More numerous, disparate, and functionally polymorphous than the SA, the ISA exert power not

Food and cooking play ideological key roles. State and media reproduce the image of a woman

Rhetorical Analysis Of Violent Media Is Good For Kids

A Rhetorical Analysis of Violent Media is Good for Kids
From early childhood, parents, teachers, and other adults instill in us that violence is bad and
unethical. We can all agree that we should avoid certain forms of violent behavior if possible;
however, it is incorrect to assume that all forms of violence is bad. In his article Violent Media is
Good For Kids , Gerald Jones argues that creative violence such as gory video games, Comic books,
and play fighting give children tools to master rage and actually help more kids than they hurt. What
the author is saying here is correct because children use these types of influences in imaginary play at
a young age, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the Incredible Hulk was a ticking time bomb and completely out of control he was a sort of
Jekel and Mr. Hyde character. Timid geek, gone raging goliath if you must. Yes, he was out of control
and frightened tearing up everything in his path, but on the other side of that, he was also a caring
good hearted person that got a good enough handle on his destructive side that he became a hero and
started working with the Avengers. Jones is wrong to imply that the only reason these comics were
good for him was due to the violence alone. This was not a character like the Joker who just tortured
and corrupted people for a laugh and killed mercilessly, there is a reason the good guy always wins in
these comics, and that is to appeal to the children reading them and to instill that type of behavior.
Everybody loves a winner so when they make Batman or Superman triumph over The Joker or Lex
Luthor the authors are instilling the value that good triumphs over evil to their audience. This means
that while yes, they were good for him because they were violent and juvenile; they were also good
because they still had those messages of conquering the demon, or lose yourself but find yourself
again. Jones goes on to persuade us by using his son as an example.
I have watched my son living the same story transforming himself into a bloodthirsty dinosaur to
embolden himself for the plunge into preschool, a Power Ranger to muscle through a

The Scientific Method Of Science Essay
The Scientific Method
Introduction
The Scientific Method is defined as a method of procedure that has characterized natural science since
the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the
formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. The scientific method is used throughout the
world which makes it a uniform way to systematically conduct experiments. The guidelines in this
method are used so that anyone can repeat the experiment as accurate as possible every time the
experiment is done. All measurements in the scientific world are made in metric measurements so
there is a uniform system of measurement. The Scientific Method has steps that are taken to get faster,
more accurate results. The first step is to make observations over the subject you are testing. This
includes studying previous data over the topic under investigation, and making your own observations.
Step number two is to form a testable hypothesis. Also, by forming a hypothesis the scientist can plan
out how the experiment will be conducted. If the scientist has a well prepared hypothesis they should
be able to make a prediction of what the results of the experiment will be. After the hypothesis has
been formed it is time for the experiment. With the experiment the hypothesis will be tested, data will
be obtained, and the results will be concluded. The data will also be used to reject, support, or to
modify the hypothesis. Step number four is to analyze

Introduces her four major concerns illustrated in Silas Marner namely village life.
Within the very first paragraph on the book, Gorge Elliot introduces her four major concerns
illustrated in Silas Marner namely village life (of the late 18th century), superstition and belief,
alienation and historical change (in this case specifically that caused by industrial revolution and the
ending of the Napoleonic Wars). These concerns are closely woven together in the story (and in some
cases real life) as can once again be seen in this opening two paragraphs and often can be looked at in
relation to one another.
Village life was probably Gorge Elliot s primary focus when writing the novel and her anthropological

Another thing these country folk are distrustful of are things outside their realm of knowledge, which
is fairly small. Anything which they do not comprehend or have not experienced, such as the weavers
and their trade, is at once dangerous and suspicious. Associated with this is the concept of continuity
that is something very important to the village folk. It is thus that something which is new or which
roots are unknown is regarded with suspicion. As the paragraph says how was a man to be explained
unless you at least knew somebody who knew his father or mother?
This brings is to the theme of superstition. As mentioned above the country folk are very much
suspicious of things they do not understand. Since they are unable to rationally and logically
comprehend the nature of such things, they start formulating superstitions regarding these things. This
is why the shepherd, though he had good reason to believe that the bag held nothing but flaxen thread,
or else the long rolls of strong linen spun from that thread, was not quite sure this trade of
waving...could be carried on entirely without the help of the Evil One. Natural human inclination is to
create irrational beliefs, usually linked to the supernatural, about things that are mysterious and
unknown. Further examples of this can be seen further on in the novel, when, for example, myth is

Power Of Power In Richard 2
Richard II is an authoritative and greedy king of England, and he is living in a period of transition that
medieval knights who are swearing total loyalty to a king has been disappearing and an aristocracy
starts to gain a power for their own good. However, Richard II keeps believing the power of kingship,
and he also is too confident himself. He overestimates his authority and power; furthermore, he
ignores the periodical change. Therefore, he speaks confidently how firm his position as king is to the
people in Wales, but his attitude changes when he suffers a defeat by Henry Bolingbroke that he
Richard II was going to Ireland to suppress a rebellion, but he had to come back when Henry
Bolingbroke, who is exiled from England, is coming back without permission and also with a large
force to his kingdom. He immediately goes to Wales to fight with Henry. What Richard II does first
after landing from the ship is give an order to the earth: Feed not thy sovereign s foe, my gentle earth,
/ Nor with thy sweets comfort his ravenous sense; / But let thy spiders, that suck up thy venom, / And
heavy gaited toads lie in their way, / Doing annoyance to the treacherous feet (Shakespeare 3.2.12 16).
This shows the authority that Richard II has. His authority as a king is so powerful that he can give a
commend to the earth, and the earth to obey him. However, he also feels that he may lose from the
fight: ere her native king / Shall falter under foul rebellion s arms (3.2.25 26).

Comparing Hosseini And Sophocles
Next, both Hosseini and Sophocles used the theme to fascinate the readers. Amir s choice ultimately

that he may finally sleep at night , yet Amir s selfishness still overpowers his life, which magnifies the
reader s interest (Hosseini 92). Amir s need to destroy himself is not only heartrending but painful. His
need at self destruction absorbs the reader s full attention and makes them crave more. Sophocles used
the theme for the exact same purpose, yet he wanted to emphasize it for greater interest. Oedipus s

  • 2. Alicia Moore (Pink) Essays Alicia Moore (Pink) Alicia Moore, or Pink as she is better known, has become a music sensation around the United States. My reason for choosing her as a topic is the fact that she was born and raised in Doylestown, Pennsylvania my hometown. Doylestown is about an hour northeast of Philadelphia, and it s easy to take note of anyone famous who comes out of D Town, as it is called, because it is not the largest of areas. Pink went to the rival high school of mine, Central Bucks High School West, and I actually know a few people who knew her as Alicia Moore through various activities. Pink had a very rough childhood. She wanted to leave her house and envisioned a better life for herself when she was growing up. I was screwed up, lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also began to spend a lot of time in the city of Philadelphia at different dance clubs. Her frequent visiting of the clubbing scene was actually how she got noticed. She landed a Friday night singing spot at Club Fever. A talent scout spotted her there one night and signed her up for an R B group. The R B group quickly fell apart, but Pink was determined, and was able to find another group to join. That second group was picked up by LaFace Records, and eventually the label signed Pink as a solo artist and her first album Can t Take Me Home was produced. Two million albums and three top 40 singles later, Pink was asked to do the remake of LaBelle s 1975 #1 hit, Lady Marmalade, for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, along with well known artists Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim and Mya. Their compilation song shot to the top of the charts, and, with an award winning, truly cabaret type, video to match, sent Pink and her powerful soprano to a world stage. Pink has recently released a second album Missundaztood, which has already reach number eight on the Top 200 album charts. There is even a new single, Get The Party Started which has hit number four on the Top 100 Singles. With Pink now dominating the airwaves she finds herself dogged by questions about certain other big name musical talents. She addresses this issue directly on the very rock sounding new cut Don t ... • 3. Searle s Ideas When Searle talks about institutional facts I believe that he has great insight into the way people take items and place values on them. These values are universally accepted and become a social reality in our social world. These social realities have functions that man has assigned to them to dictate what they are intended to do. I will walk through Searle s features needed in a social reality and it will become clear that all social realities have these features. But where Searle ideas are flawed is when he says that there are no functions found in nature, and it is also my aim to expose this flaw in his foundation of his ideas of social reality. I believe that for social reality to have Searle s posited features makes sense, but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the function of the university would be to educate students and the function of government would be to govern people. But Searle tries and makes everything that has functionality relative to a system of values (Searle, 15.) He also says that functions...are always observer relative (Searle, 14.) With these statements, he is saying that all things that have functions are imposed by the person that is observing the function and that no function is ever intrinsic or found in nature. To further his point he gives an example that by our observation we can say that the heart pumps blood, [but we cannot say that]...the function of the heart is to pump blood (Searle, 14.) This is because we would be imposing our subjective value on what we see the heart doing because we value life over death. My problem with this thinking is that the heart must be alive to pump blood, which is its normal state, and if I did value death over life, then the heart would die and decompose into a matter that is not a heart. Therefore the heart in its natural state is alive and pumping blood, which means that the function of the heart is to pump blood (Searle, 14.) This is the same when we say that the function of the eyes is to see, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Small Town Essay Gabrielle Bolin Dr. Lindsy Lawrence English 1213 0D4 23 April 2015 This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up in a small town the one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At least, that s how it is for the youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing in a well known hotel ... • 5. Analysis of Chapter 2 Transtition and Change and Chapter 3... This week s reading starts with a Chapter 2 Transition and Change. After reviewing the chapter for a second time there were a few nuggets that stood out to the reader, nuggets that would be very beneficial to be mindful of when assisting family businesses with transitions and changes. As stated last week the Godrej Group provides four characteristics of a family firm that will help protect the sources of their past success and at the same time, seek needed innovation. (Schuman, A., Stutz, S., Ward, J.L. 2012, p. 38). This concept includes the complex successor dilemmas. This component was best summarized by a quote from Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh which states Change does not change tradition. It strengthens it. Change is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because the family business it so new, family paradoxes like making time for family trips and vacations may arise. For the 2nd generation the family business is more family focused. The paradoxes that arise are often regarding whether the revenues should be used to give family members larger salaries or update equipment. The 3rd generation is often more business focus, but it s focus is extremely different from G1. This third generation is often searching for way to include all the members of the founding family and their unique skill sets to expand the brand, oversee the philanthropy activities and handle other areas of the family business besides production. The reading shows that the family priorities for G1 is roots and wings, for G2 is work and home, and for G3 is loyalty and freedom. The key impact areas of strategic choice for G1 is action and planning, for G2 is opportunistic and core, and for G3 is invest and harvest. The key impact areas of management philosophy for G1 is expedience and patience, for G2 is task and process, for G3 is privacy and transparency. The key impact areas of decision making for G1 is control and trust, for G2 is individual and collective and for G3 is formal and informal. • 7. The Death Of A Child The death of a child is experienced with great resistance because it is understood as an interruption in the life cycle often seen as untimely and unfair. Pediatric nurses care for children in high mortality environments, such as the pediatric intensive care and oncology units and, as a result, are directly affected by childhood death (Papadatou, 2000). Caring for a dying child and their family is an emotionally charged situation (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2000; Catlin and Carter, 2001; Stutts and Schloemann, 2002). Nurses spend much time caring for their patients but forget to look after themselves. Caring for the nurse is an often forgotten component of nursing that can affect quality of care. Exploring the nurse s experience in caring for a dying child will help to identify effective coping strategies. It has been suggested that effective coping strategies are crucial in prevention of burnout and damage to overall emotional health (Hinds, Oakes, Hicks, Anghelescu, 2005). The findings of this project will provide an opportunity to create a broad picture of how nurses cope and behave when caring for a dying child. Methodology A search of the literature was performed in the following databases: CINAHL, the Cochrane Library, EBSCO, MEDLINE, and PubMed. The subject terms and keywords used included: dying OR terminal OR end of life; pediatric OR child* OR infant; nurs*; and coping OR stress OR adaptation OR psychological. Plato constructs this claim by arguing: (1) Either one already knows what one wants to learn, or one does not already know what one wants to learn. (Premise) (2) If one already knows what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise) (3) If one does not already know what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. • 9. Social Media Negative Essay How much time do people spend on a cell phone or computer daily? What percentage of that time is consumed doing things other than scrolling through Instagram, twitter, and Facebook feeds or snap chatting peers? Seventy three percent of wired teens use social media websites (PEW research center). We live in a society where social media dominates a vast majority of our life. Individuals of the 21st century are deemed as good or bad friends based on liking a peers photo. Social media provides individuals with instant gratification as they see the innumerable amount of likes piling up on their home screens instantly after posting pictures. Vanessa Lapointe, through a relatable series of emotional developments, targets teens and families caught up in social media to inform them about the dangers of tech based social apps and the vitality of monitoring what we say, do, and like. Our actions, although they may seem immensely minuscule, have large implications. Lapointe, therefore, effectively uses pathos to target parents who are concerned about the effects of social media on their children s futures. Lapointe utilizes pathos, a type of emotional appeal, as she presents an analogy between addiction and health to social media dangers in order to effectively grab the attention of parents. Lapointe argues, we can t get enough of it because it gives us these instant hits of that social connectivity that we quite literally need. The problem is that it will never fully satiate our ... Lycidas Poem Analysis The Crisis of Lycidas Absent Body Lycidas is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend Lycidas, a fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem progresses, the figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes overwhelmed by the various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices those of Phoebus and St. Peter, for instance interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of Lycidas marks the poem s return to its elegiac intent as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments Lycidas absent body, a recurring element which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the speaker to properly mourn and accept Lycidas death. The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, Return, Alpheus (132), Alpheus being a river in Arcadia whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent Greek pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that the dread voice is past (132) the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the speaker s voice with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken over by Neptune s herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move away from Lycidas to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that mentions Lycidas, or Lycid (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the Sicilian Muse (133), the speaker recognizes that the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it. The speaker first does this by invoking the Sicilian Muse to call the vales (134) to gather a plants and flowers to adorn Lycidas dead body. The speaker specifically calls for primrose, crowtoe, jessamine, pansies, violets, woodbine, cowslips, amaranthus, daffodils, and laurels. (142 47,149 150)The laurels are significant as an emblem of poetry and its presence on Lycidas hearse (151) praises him for his poetry, but there is a sense of sadness and grief embedded within the floral imagery. When the speaker mentions the rathe primrose (142), a flower that blooms early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Historical Cultural Context On The City Of Corinth INTRODUCTION 1 Corinthians 1:18 25, in many ways offers a measuring stick for what true wisdom and power is, according to Scripture. While the believers in Corinth are looking for, and claiming to have, true wisdom and power, Paul addresses the issue and makes it clear that true wisdom and power are found in Christ and in the message of the cross. In no uncertain terms, Paul states that the wisdom of the world is lacking and is unable to save those who are perishing. But, the so called foolishness of God has the power to save those who believe, and is found only in the cross of Jesus Christ. While Jews and Greeks alike are searching for that which saves, Paul makes it clear that salvation is not found in the wisdom and power of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of its beneficial geographical location, Corinth was extremely prosperous, and that financial prosperity led to ever increasing moral corruption. While most Greco Roman cities were marked with immorality, Corinth seemed to rise above the rest in this particular area. Even by the pagan standards of its own culture, Corinth became so morally corrupt that its very name became synonymous with debauchery and moral depravity. LITERARY CONTEXT The first letter to the Corinthians as a whole alternates between responses to reports and answers to questions from the church, and 1 Corinthians 1:18 25 is found in the beginning of Paul s first response to reports dealing with factions and divisions within the body of believers. The previous section of the letter is the introduction and Paul s note of thanks for the Corinthian believers. There is a distinct note of commendation and love in the first section before Paul begins to condemn and exhort the Corinthians for their poor behavior. Much of this behavior is linked to their boasting about their wisdom, or the wisdom of those whom they choose to follow. Therefore, much of Paul s teaching is in relation to true wisdom, as opposed to worldly wisdom. Paul continues to address the issue of factions in the church by further concentrating on the issue of wisdom, before he begins approaching other issues from the report in chapters 5 and 6. • 19. Theme Of War In A Farewell To Arms Ernest Hemingway s novel A Farewell to Arms covers a romance that takes place during World War I. The novel itself came out shortly after the war, and was the first of Hemingway s books to become a best seller. Essentially, the novel contrasts the horrors of war with the romance of Henry and Catherine. Throughout the plot, Hemingway, a World War I veteran himself, uses the events of the book to make a statement about his thoughts on war. The core message of Hemingway s A Farewell to Arms is that war damages the soldiers who fight in it both physically and emotionally, which is primarily illustrated by the number of deaths caused directly and indirectly by the war, the actions Henry is forced to take over the course of the book, and Henry s growing cynicism towards war. The first piece of evidence supporting this theme is the deaths caused by the war, especially those important to Henry. Directly, soldiers are killed in battle, from being shot by enemies, hit by mortar shells, or in one case, shot by their own allies. When Henry and his companions are separated from the Italian army and try to get back to the main forces, as they attempt to cross an embankment, Two more shots came from the thick brush and Aymo, as he was crossing the tracks, lurched, tripped and fell face down (Hemingway 213). Then another military person appeared out of the mist and the two of them grabbed Lincoln by the shoulders and literally dragged him towards the truck. Lincoln was still groggy enough not to be able to resist. One of them grabbed his gun before he could do anything. Lincoln s only course of action now was to remain as still as possible. Rhetorical Analysis Of Violent Media Is Good For Kids Tabitha Desiree Luke Mrs. Woodward English 101 10 October 2017 A Rhetorical Analysis of Violent Media is Good for Kids From early childhood, parents, teachers, and other adults instill in us that violence is bad and unethical. We can all agree that we should avoid certain forms of violent behavior if possible; however, it is incorrect to assume that all forms of violence is bad. In his article Violent Media is Good For Kids , Gerald Jones argues that creative violence such as gory video games, Comic books, and play fighting give children tools to master rage and actually help more kids than they hurt. What the author is saying here is correct because children use these types of influences in imaginary play at a young age, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the Incredible Hulk was a ticking time bomb and completely out of control he was a sort of Jekel and Mr. Hyde character. Timid geek, gone raging goliath if you must. Yes, he was out of control and frightened tearing up everything in his path, but on the other side of that, he was also a caring good hearted person that got a good enough handle on his destructive side that he became a hero and started working with the Avengers. Jones is wrong to imply that the only reason these comics were good for him was due to the violence alone. This was not a character like the Joker who just tortured and corrupted people for a laugh and killed mercilessly, there is a reason the good guy always wins in these comics, and that is to appeal to the children reading them and to instill that type of behavior. Everybody loves a winner so when they make Batman or Superman triumph over The Joker or Lex Luthor the authors are instilling the value that good triumphs over evil to their audience. This means that while yes, they were good for him because they were violent and juvenile; they were also good because they still had those messages of conquering the demon, or lose yourself but find yourself again. Jones goes on to persuade us by using his son as an example. I have watched my son living the same story transforming himself into a bloodthirsty dinosaur to embolden himself for the plunge into preschool, a Power Ranger to muscle through a ... • 31. The Scientific Method Of Science Essay The Scientific Method Introduction The Scientific Method is defined as a method of procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses. The scientific method is used throughout the world which makes it a uniform way to systematically conduct experiments. The guidelines in this method are used so that anyone can repeat the experiment as accurate as possible every time the experiment is done. All measurements in the scientific world are made in metric measurements so there is a uniform system of measurement. The Scientific Method has steps that are taken to get faster, more accurate results. The first step is to make observations over the subject you are testing. This includes studying previous data over the topic under investigation, and making your own observations. Step number two is to form a testable hypothesis. Also, by forming a hypothesis the scientist can plan out how the experiment will be conducted. If the scientist has a well prepared hypothesis they should be able to make a prediction of what the results of the experiment will be. After the hypothesis has been formed it is time for the experiment. With the experiment the hypothesis will be tested, data will be obtained, and the results will be concluded. The data will also be used to reject, support, or to modify the hypothesis. Step number four is to analyze ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within the very first paragraph on the book, Gorge Elliot introduces her four major concerns illustrated in Silas Marner namely village life (of the late 18th century), superstition and belief, alienation and historical change (in this case specifically that caused by industrial revolution and the ending of the Napoleonic Wars). These concerns are closely woven together in the story (and in some cases real life) as can once again be seen in this opening two paragraphs and often can be looked at in relation to one another. Village life was probably Gorge Elliot s primary focus when writing the novel and her anthropological investigations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing these country folk are distrustful of are things outside their realm of knowledge, which is fairly small. Anything which they do not comprehend or have not experienced, such as the weavers and their trade, is at once dangerous and suspicious. Associated with this is the concept of continuity that is something very important to the village folk. It is thus that something which is new or which roots are unknown is regarded with suspicion. As the paragraph says how was a man to be explained unless you at least knew somebody who knew his father or mother? This brings is to the theme of superstition. As mentioned above the country folk are very much suspicious of things they do not understand. Since they are unable to rationally and logically comprehend the nature of such things, they start formulating superstitions regarding these things. This is why the shepherd, though he had good reason to believe that the bag held nothing but flaxen thread, or else the long rolls of strong linen spun from that thread, was not quite sure this trade of waving...could be carried on entirely without the help of the Evil One. Natural human inclination is to create irrational beliefs, usually linked to the supernatural, about things that are mysterious and unknown. • 33. Power Of Power In Richard 2 Richard II is an authoritative and greedy king of England, and he is living in a period of transition that medieval knights who are swearing total loyalty to a king has been disappearing and an aristocracy starts to gain a power for their own good. However, Richard II keeps believing the power of kingship, and he also is too confident himself. He overestimates his authority and power; furthermore, he ignores the periodical change. Therefore, he speaks confidently how firm his position as king is to the people in Wales, but his attitude changes when he suffers a defeat by Henry Bolingbroke that he Richard II was going to Ireland to suppress a rebellion, but he had to come back when Henry Bolingbroke, who is exiled from England, is coming back without permission and also with a large force to his kingdom. He immediately goes to Wales to fight with Henry. What Richard II does first after landing from the ship is give an order to the earth: Feed not thy sovereign s foe, my gentle earth, / Nor with thy sweets comfort his ravenous sense; / But let thy spiders, that suck up thy venom, / And heavy gaited toads lie in their way, / Doing annoyance to the treacherous feet (Shakespeare 3.2.12 16). This shows the authority that Richard II has. His authority as a king is so powerful that he can give a commend to the earth, and the earth to obey him. Sophocles used the theme for the exact same purpose, yet he wanted to emphasize it for greater interest. Oedipus s choice to discover his birth has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
