Mary Warren Accused Of Heresy In Court
Today, Mary Warren, my servant, was being accused of heresy in court when she was calling Abigail
and her followers out on lying to the community. The girls tried to convict Mary Warren as a witch
after the girls were possessed in the courtroom, supposedly by Mary, as she was blaming them for
lying. As Mary was telling the judges that she had never done anything to harm Abigail and tried to
them that she was not a witch, the girls suddenly looked toward the courtroom and church ceiling as if
possessed. The group began to scream in terror as if they saw something terrible. The judges became
frightened and began asking the girls what they had seen. They said they had seen Mary Warren as a
witch. Mary Warren began to cry frantically and

Persuasive Essay On Black Footed Ferrets
Black footed ferrets are finally making a comeback! Almost thirty years, organizations have been
helping the black footed ferrets regain status. You will be learning about the amazing black footed
ferrets, the objectives of the Endangered Species Act, strategies to help the ferrets, threats of the
ferrets, who is helping them, and how they are helping the ferrets.
There are approximately 750 wild ferrets and roughly 350 in captivity around North America. They
have a long tan body with black legs and feet; they also have a black head with a little bit of black on
the back of their bodies. The black footed ferrets rely on prairie dogs and their colonies to provide
shelter and food. These animals live mostly in a grassland habitat. A grassland habitat is basically an
open prairie with minimal rainfall. Black footed ferrets are part of the weasel family. There used to be
tens of thousands of black footed ferrets but by the 1960s they became almost extinct. Most frequent
meals for a ferret are prairie dogs. They will also dine on rodents, different types of squirrels, birds,
and rabbits. They once lived throughout the United States (U.S.), Canada, and Mexico. Now the new
population has been introduced to 8 U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico.
Most of a ferret s life is spent underground. 90% of the time they are underground eating, sleeping, or
raising their young. They are also nocturnal which means that they only go out of their homes at night.
When they go out they hunt

Essay on Malibu Fires
Malibu Fires
Human beings are able to adapt to almost any environment, unfortunately sometimes we take
advantage of our natural surroundings. We find ourselves amidst a struggle between our lifestyles and
nature. Although we affect nature profoundly with our activities, we in turn are shaped by nature s
potent forces.
Nature can be brutal to humans, but we must remember that it merely is following its course. As a
result, we must learn to coexist with it. Fire is a naturally occurring phenomenon which humans have
learned to deal with throughout history.
Yet when fire burns uncontrollably, there is great potential for monumental damage to all surrounding
biomass. The Malibu wildfires are an example of one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was the most devastating fire in the area, surpassing the previous worst fire in 1980 that burned 55
homes at the mouth of the San Gabriel Canyon. The total damage caused by wildfires in the San
Gabriel Mountains within the past 60 years amounted to the loss of 332 homes.
Statistically, Malibu and its surrounding area has seen much damage done to its vegetation and
inhabitants. There have been 24 wildfires that burned a total of 271,047 acres since 1927. These fires
have caused a total of five deaths and the destruction of 1,502 homes along with 830 other structures.
Recent fires include the Malibu fire in 1985, Dayton Fire in 1982 and Malibu
Canyon fire in 1970. In the Malibu Fire, 103 homes were destroyed; in the
Dayton Fire, 85 homes were destroyed. The Malibu Canyon Fire, which joined forces with the New
Hall Fire on September 25, 1970, destroyed a total of 135 homes and burned through a total of 85,000
acres (Wildfire sec. 2 p.1). Out of all the homes burned, 70 were located in Malibu and 65 in
Chatsworth (Wildfire sec. 2 p.1). Previous to that fire, the last time Topanga Canyon had seen a
damaging fire was December 30, 1956, when 74 homes were destroyed (Wildfire sec.
3 p.1). Another painful memory for Topanga Canyon occurred between 1938 and
1943, during which time three fires destroyed more than 600 structures.

Extract from The Tower of London by Harrison Ainsworth. Where do you see yourself in 4 years?

Essay on The Transcontinental Railroad And Westward...
The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion
Thesis: The transcontinental railroad greatly increased Westward expansion in the United States of
America during the latter half of the nineteenth century.
The history of the United States has been influenced by England in many ways.
In the second half of the 1800 s, the railroad, which was invented in England, had a major effect on
Western expansion in the United States.
quot;Railroads were born in England, a country with dense populations, short distances between cities,
and large financial resources. In America there were different circumstances, a sparse population in a
huge country, large stretches between cities, and only the smallest amounts of
money. quot; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Romantics dreamed of the discoveries of wild Indians, scouts and hunters, and, of course, gold. Gold
had been a desired find throughout the exploration of America. The California Gold Rush of 1849
again created much excitement about the search for gold.
The Pacific Railroads were founded when the Civil War was in progress. Until the war was over, the
transcontinental railroad was a giant enterprise stalled by much bickering between a reluctant
Congress and the Army, who had clamored for it (Cooke 254). If it had been left to the government, it
would have taken another twenty years to complete the transcontinental railroad. However, it was a
commercial venture, and it was fortunately fed by the adrenaline of competition. There were two
railroad companies building the transcontinental railroad, the Union Pacific from the East, and the
Central Pacific from the West.
The two companies struggled to beat each other in slamming down a record mileage of track. At first,
Congress avidly pursued the project and they had stipulated that the Central Pacific should stop when
it reached the California Border
(Congress was full of Easterners). In 1865, after much argument about the aid the government was
providing to the two companies, the actual construction of the transcontinental railroad was started.
Then in 1866, Congress decided that two companies

Society s Current Structure Of Masculinity
Society s current structure of masculinity is unforgiving in form. It cuts out other forms of masculinity,
it physically and mentally demanding, and its ill effects extend far beyond the men it infuses itself in.
Yet what would we do if we were given other options for masculinity, ones that allowed for unique
blends of attitudes and perceptions? Looking in to the lives of homeless men we can see the forced
strategies which create new masculine codes created for the adaption against patriarchal pressures.
They are made out of survival need to circumnavigate the painful mental and physical reality that is
only made worse by harsh masculine standards. Yet these new masculinities hold out a form of
hopefulness for society. They offer up new discussion to what it means to be a man, the potential for
change, and what we can expect from changes in male identity over time. Using what we learn from
the disadvantaged, we can hope to improve the lives of people, although the process will take time,
effort, and careful mediation. Timothy Nonn s Hitting Bottom: Homelessness, Poverty, and
Masculinity touches on the complicated issues homeless men face, especially in terms of adapting to
pressures of hegemonic masculinity. The mental and physical stress of homelessness for men stems
from a denial of identity due to the rigid construction of maleness. Homeless men lose their
connection to the same power other men come to expect, they lose their place in society, and because

A Visit To Our Lady Of Guadalupe Church
Seeing culture and religious services. For this observation I went with my aunt and her sister in law
who assist to church named Our Lady Of Guadalupe Church in East Los Angeles, It is a Catholic
church, the service was in the morning at 9:00 am to 10 am. When we got to the place, the building
had a fence when you go inside there was an open area where you can observe a lot of Material
Culture but the one that people would appreciate most was a big figure of the lady of Guadalupe the
mother of Jesus Christ full some people put beautiful flowers, also more towards the building was a
concrete cross figure laying down with the image of Jesus Christ on a wood cross, the building had an
old look, really small looking, rectangular base with 2 small square rooms on the top in the front side
with a lot of open rectangular holes and a big bell in side, also there was a cross figure on the top, thy
entrance door was big and made of wood, the floor the ceiling and benches inside were wood also, on
each beach there was space for 4 to 5 people to sit and had a cushion part on the bottom, on the walls
there were full of images on each side close to altar there was a big image with a small table with a
notebook and pen: left side was a man and right side there was Guadalupe were people writes their

How Does Frost Use Figurative Language In Birches
The poem, Birches written by Robert Frost, depicts author s personal desire to escape the normality of
life through the mirage of climbing a birch tree. With distinctive use of diction, imagery, and
figurative language, Frost manages to indirectly understand his way of perceiving life. His view of the
normality and repetition that exists everyday is hidden within words written.
When seeing Birch trees, bent by the cumbersome snow of the long winter, Frost likes to imagine a
boy s been swinging them (Frost, 3). This is a portrayal of his desire to escape the mundane
characteristics of everyday life, and enjoy himself by imagining the boy riding them down over and
over again (29). Life can be laborious and stressful, and there are always going to be hard
uncertainties that can strain the individual s mind, and using figurative language helps the author show
this by comparing it to a worn branch. Frost shows his internal feelings with, They are ... Show more

The realizations he infers show what he thinks life truly is; for him life is too much like a pathless
wood, / where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs (44 45). That is the reason for his wild
imagination, it is an escape from reality for him. Going to the top, climbing the tree, can help find the
a route through the pathless wood . Frost s imagination is what feeds his happiness, it is what
separates the norm with the abnormalities. However, he knows that life is like a play, carefully
constructed and set for a reason; the author acknowledges this, May no fate willfully misunderstand
me / And half grant what I wish and snatch me away / Not to return. Earth s the right place for love
(50 53). At the end of Birches , the author comes to a resolution; that though sometimes life can be
difficult, it could be a lot worse, That could be good both going and coming back. / One could do
worse than being a swinger of birches

Essay on Foucault Panopticism
Panopticism by Michel Focault
Works Cited Not Included
Our society is not one of spectacle, but of surveillance; under the surface of images, one invests bodies
in depth; behind the great abstraction of exchange, there continues the meticulous concrete training of
useful forces; the circuits of communication are the supports of an accumulation and a centralization
of knowledge; the play of signs defines the anchorages of power; it is not that the beautiful totality of
the individual is amputated, repressed, altered by our social order, it is rather that the individual is
carefully fabricated in it, according to a whole technique of forces and bodies. (pp.333 34)

The persons with the plague (lepers were included in this group) were always observed to account for
their presence. These people were supposed to be present at their windows for attendance. Where they
not present at the time, they were marked as dead. Their family would be removed, the house would
be cleaned out, perfumed, and then, a mere four hours later, people would move back in. Obviously,
the fear of not being observed would be strong in this situation, a direct result of the drastic measures
taken once someone s presence could not be observed. Though this fear has the opposite motivation of
the healthy citizens, who, knowing they are being watched, are afraid to do wrong, it works on the
same basic principle. That if one knows they are being watched, it remains a constant consideration in
their mind, regardless of the presence of an observer, the fear will always be present.
The Panopticon, a prison described by Foucault, is a machine for dissociating the see/being seen dyad:
in the peripheric ring, one is totally seen, without ever seeing (321, Foucault). This literally means that
in the formation of the panopticon those who are being seen can not see one another and the one who
sees everything can never be seen. That is the most important tool of the panopticon. Foucault makes
this assumption about today s society by saying that we are always being watched whether we know it
or not. One always keeps an eye over their shoulder as a

Prevalence Rate For Bipolar I Disorder

of the overall population (Merikangas et al, 2011). The United States had the highest reported lifetime
prevalence of bipolar spectrum disorders with 4.4% and a 12 month prevalence of 2.8%. In addition,
lifetime prevalence rates for bipolar I disorder were found to be slightly higher in males than in
females. While much of the reported prevalence rates for bipolar disorder are based on adults 18 years

In addition, episodes of depression and mania tend to be short and frequent around the time of onset
and then lengthen over time with most people experiencing intermittent episodes throughout their
lifetime (Angst Sellaro, 2000). Since bipolar spectrum disorders are complex in nature, the overall
treatment of this disorder tends to be difficult as nonadherence to treatment is common (Hilty,
Leamon, Lim, Kelly, Hales, 2006).
There are also some gender differences experienced by those with bipolar disorder. Women tend
experience bipolar disorder different from men. Nivoli et al. (2011) reported that in adult onset bipolar
disorder, women generally experience an onset of depression and overall depressive predominance. In
addition, they reported that women tend to experience a higher rate of psychotic features and
suicidality associated with depression. However, men tend to experience higher rates of comorbid
substance abuse and engage in more violent attempts of suicide.
Youth with bipolar disorder tend to experience persistent disease well into their late adolescent years
and adulthood (Wozniak et al, 2010). Individuals with childhood and adolescent onset as compared to
adult onset, tend to be highly correlated with specific illness characteristics including more a severe
course of disease, comorbid anxiety disorders, at least 10 additional lifetime mood episodes, substance

The Pursuit Of Happiness By Malcolm Muggeridge Essay

Mrs.Yosh
American Values The British journalist, Malcolm Muggeridge, defined Americans as The pursuit of
happiness, which American citizens are obliged to undertake, tends to involve them in trying to
perpetuate the moods, tastes and aptitudes of youth. Happiness, which every human wants, is the
fundamental underlying quality by which America has built itself upon, proclaiming freedom, equality
and the opportunity to those who seek a better life. Muggeridge suggests an American citizen meant to
be in the pursuit of happiness. However, American citizens who were inclined to find happiness,
pursue wealth, acceptance, and image hoping that it will preserve youthfulness. In reality, Americans
pursuit of happiness turns into a search for youthfulness, in which qualities of the youth are often
sought after. In The Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald portrays a man s pursuit of his dreams and
happiness. Early in his life, Jay Gatsby realizes that with hard work, self improvement, and an
education, he can achieve his desires, like most Americans today. Like Gatsby, who saw the wealth of
Dan Cody as a thing that brings happiness, Americans today look around and still associate money
with happiness. Similar to Gatsby, who was willing to bootleg, lie, and work, Americans find
themselves chasing wealth for its ability to perpetuate youthfulness. However, most

ways. First, both religions focus on two main things that lead them to a successful life, Dharma and

A Research Study On Helicopter Parenting Essay
College life for the twenty first century student is not what it used to be. According to an American
College Health Association National College Health Assessment survey, eighty five percent of college
students feel so tremendously overwhelmed they walk through the day blind and just hoping things
work out (Fisher). Students lack the ability to focus and manage everything that is piled on them
during class. The term helicopter parenting was first common in the 1990 s, but was first used in 1969.
Now, forty seven years later, helicopter parenting has become prevalent in college students lives and
the culture around people. A helicopter parent is one who takes an overprotective or excessive interest
in the life of their child or children. Helicopter parenting does not start out randomly as a college
student; helicopter parenting is a process that develops results.
The helicopter parent issue is prevalent to many people. People from Doctor Amy Joyce to stay at
home mom Jamie Porter have done studies to explain the effects of helicopter parenting. Psychologists
such as Chris Meno have done research and testings to collect data on helicopter parented children.
The issue of helicopter parenting is not just concerning children; it is concerning people across the
country.
President of Frostburg State University told Amy Joyce parents have called him to settle a dispute
between their child and their roommate. Joyce explains in her piece How Helicopter Parents Are

wide variety. The types are fungal, bacterial, viral, and other parasites. All pathogens can be

bacterial. While both fungal and bacterial pathogens cause illness, they differ in the way they are
transmitted, the way they are treated, and the diseases they cause. First, the way fungal and bacterial
pathogens are transmitted is different. Most fungal pathogens are not transmitted person to person but
instead by inhaling fungal spores. On the other hand bacterial pathogens are transmitted in many ways

Research Question
Does cyberbullying have the same negative effects as traditional bullying? Thesis Statement
Cyber Bullying has the same negative effects as Traditional Bullying.
Introduction
The goal of the research reports is to compare and contrast the effects of cyberbullying against those
of traditional bullying. The research finds that cyberbullying does have the same effect as traditional
bullying, but to a greater extent. Reviewing the research also shows that there is a connection between
cyberbullying and traditional bullying. This review of literature is organized by the methodology of
the research reports.
Methodology
The research reports each have similar styles of conducting their research. The most common type of
research performed are surveys, with obvious variations in each. In the report by Cole et al 827
students between 3rd and 6th grade were surveyed. The students were asked questions on Peer
Victimization, depressive symptoms, negative self cognitions, and victimization related cognitive
reaction. Each category for this research has a different test that corresponds to it. This method of
research is different than Juvonen and Gross report. In the report by Juvonen

Metaphors In The Things They Carried
In, The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, there is a quote they all carried ghosts. , this metaphor
can represent the many things the soldiers carried. Every soldier carries things that represent memories
or security. In war, the soldiers are confronted with death every day so they carry things that remind
them of people, memories, or hope. They all carried ghosts. (O Brien, 9) this line means that the things
they carry remind them of people or memories, things that can not be seen but only thought of or
remembered. They all carried the weight of their memories, the bodies of other soldiers and their own
lives. Most of the time they carry themselves as strong men but when they feel that they are about to
die they pray to their families,

The, Loss Suffered By Holden Acts As A Contributing Factor...
Similarly, loss suffered by Holden acts as a contributing factor to his inner turmoil and mental illness.
Holden s younger brother Allie passed away in 1946, and has haunted Holden ever since. He states:
He s dead now. He got Leukaemia and died. The bluntness with which Holden reveals his death is
representative of the effective use of simple language on the part of Salinger. Complex vocabulary is
not used because it is not needed the incident stands out more against a plainer backdrop. The fact that
Allie died of Leukaemia also makes the event more devastating. He died extremely prematurely and
Holden s downfall suggests that his death impacted him in a huge way. Holden was intensely fond of
his brother and refers to him throughout the entirety of the novel. He comments: You would have liked
him when personally addressing the reader. We therefore feel involved in his story and emotion is
evoked when we hear of his passing. It also acts as an explanation for Holden s difficulties. He
struggles immensely throughout adolescence as he fails to accept the transition from childhood to
adulthood, perhaps because he described Allie as mature for his age. This could perhaps be why
Holden has such negative associations with growing older: all he sees ahead is death. Therefore, loss
endured by both Holden and Esther leads to their eventual depression and isolation from society.
Furthermore, depression and isolation of characters also stems from failure in the academic

Byzantine Empire Dbq Analysis
Another way the crusades led to the fall of the Byzantine Empire was the presence of weak leadership.
For instance, Emperor Alexius is anxious to gain loyalty and strength because his empire is weaker
internally; therefore he forces loyalty oaths. Alexius s need to make other leaders take an oath proves
he was not a strong enough leader to deserve the respect of the people, therefore resulting in the
people revolting, causing everlasting internal damage (Doc 2.) A chronicler is a person who writes
accounts of important or historical events or people. Therefore, it is Anna Comnena s job to write

The Hagia Sophia was one of the greatest Orthodox churches built by Justinian. Alexius IV in other
words destroys the empire and lowers religious values. The empire and the emperor must be so
vulnerable and powerless to have to burn religious icons in order to pay enemies. In essence, the
melting of religious icons demonstrates the emperor s weakness to sustain society. The turning against
religious values made the citizens of the Byzantine Empire revolt, causing more internal conflict,
which allows the Turks to devise ways to conquer the holy lands (Doc5.) Jonathon s Phillips

Human Intelligence Can Be Increased Due At Exercise
The beginning and an end. The start and the finish. Once something begins, it will eventually come to
an end. But, that true, does everything in the universe actually end? Numbers; a start with no finish.
Numbers, something so simple, yet so complex. An infinite creation of the human mind subdued by
our unmeasurable human intelligence. This is all capable due to the human brain. The brain is the
most complex and unique organ in the human body. Some even considerable it a muscle. Similar to
muscles, your brain can be trained and worked for better functionality. But, did you that there s a
direct connection between exercising and increased intelligence in humans? In this paper I will be
backing up my statement that human intelligence can be increased due to exercise. I will also give a
view on the opposite side, using research that hypothetically disproves the idea that human
intelligence can be gained through exercise. Then, I will be evaluating my claim, backing up my point
by applying reason, utilizing the four tests of an argument and taking advantage of my critical thinking
skills to validate my claim. Lastly, I will be concluding and synthesizing my argument. According to a
couple studies exercise and intelligence have no connection. Some even suggest that exercise has
negative effects on human intelligence. The first study was done by Kaycee M. Sink, M.D., M.A.S., of
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and her colleagues, evaluated whether a 24 month physical

Consent And Rape Culture
Consent And Rape Culture: College Campus Nightmares
One in five college students will experience sexual assault during their college career as of 2014 (Best
Colleges). Sexual assault is the umbrella term used to describe any unwanted/forced sexual activity. It
is an entirely huge problem, and has only been strengthened by the rapid development of rape culture.
Sexual assault has become a dominant problem on college campuses across the world. Many believe
that this is due to the prevalence and encouragement of rape culture among young college students.
The ever increasing number of sexual assaults on college campuses, which is extremely alarming, can
also be credited to the fact that students are not taught about the rules of consent, and ... Show more

After talking to former college student and TSU Consultant Employee, Calvin Harris, it seems that
lessons, ...about sexual consent... [left] more curious questions than solid answers given by students
(Harris). Basically, the majority of students that Harris came into contact with and who were taught
about sexual consent in college ended up having more questions than answers because of how unclear
those lessons were. There is also a chance that sexual assaults that take place on campus are not being
reported to the heads of the college at all. Lack of reports cause the scale of the actual problem to be
down sized, doing extreme harm to the solving of the problem. ... as a worker, the alert system has not
been going off as much. Despite this, I heard more as a student as there were rumors about sexual
assaults happening on campus (Harris). In other words, college admins may not even know that sexual
assault is a problem on campus because those sexual assaults are not being reported. Lack of reports
means lack of awareness, and it is 10 times harder to solve such a issue without being aware of it.
Another disheartening dilemma when it comes to the high rate of sexual assaults on campus is that
colleges may be covering up those assaults to keep their image clean. According to Harris, I haven t

The Arguments Of Athanasius And Arius At The Council Of...
Critically evaluate the arguments of Athanasius and Arius at the Council of Nicaea
The Patristic Era saw various controversies arising over the nature of Jesus Christ, which consequently
lead to the establishment of the creed as an attempt to reject the heretical views held by proponents.
An example of a heretical advocate is Arius, who suggested Christ was inferior to God, but still above
other creatures (McGrath, 2001, p.358). However, early orthodox theologians disputed this idea due to
the soteriological complications that accompanied it (Young, 2010, p.55). The central advocator of this
dispute was Athanasius, who questioned how Arius belief allowed for salvation through Jesus Christ,
which is a key orthodox belief identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This heretical view is further fought against through Athanasius extensive focus on Jesus death and the
implications that this had on humanity as told by the Bible (Young, 2010, p.55); Romans (10:9)
explicitly states Jesus is the Lord and the only route to salvation. So it can be argued, if Jesus is not
God, as Arius suggests, then it is not possible for humanity to reach salvation, which results in
diminishment of the purpose of Christian faith. Thus, it is acceptable to assume that the Nicene Creed
s assertion of the homoousious relationship of God and Jesus, as a rejection of Arianism, was essential
to early Christian theology because it provided certainty for the establishment of the faith.
Although the consubstantial nature of Jesus and God was confirmed at Nicaea, it wasn t definitively
defined because Arians responded with another heretical view: Jesus and God were homoiousious.
The belief that God and Jesus were only similar in nature allowed for subordinationism to manifest,
which was a heresy that asserted God the Father was superior to Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Williams,
2001, p.133). So this belief accepts the Trinity but has misinterpreted the orthodox declaration of the
idea. Arius told of the unequal glories amongst each distinct being within the Trinity (Williams, 2001,
p.102). This was scorned by Athanasius who knew of the homoousious relationship through scripture
(Colossians 2:9), which is how God expresses

Gun Control Policies Applied To Rational And Group Theory...
Short Analysis of Gun Control Policies Applied to Rational and Group Theory Models In 2012 Sandy
Hook Elementary School was victim of a terrible mass shooting that prompted several states and cities
to pass strict gun control measures. This sparked a widely debated and controversial issue for gun
friendly states in the South and West, who responded with bills that would strengthen Stand Your
Ground laws and allow weapons in most public places. The nation continues to be divided on gun
control policies, as it is very controversial and continues to be a very hot topic in society today. There
has been a rise in gun violence throughout the years, and it has been widely been debated that guns are
too easily accessible and there is a continued push for stricter gun laws that can reduce the risk of gun
violence. This paper will focus on the implementation of two models of public policy; Group Model
and Rational Model. Group Theory begins with, the proposition that interaction among groups is the
central fact of politics. Group Theory is when individuals with common interests band together
formally or informally to press their demands upon government, a shared attitude group that makes
certain claims upon other groups in society (Dye, p. 26). Additionally, this paper will apply the
rational model to gun control policies. Rational policy, as defined by Dye, is a policy that gives the
majority of society what they want. It has emphasis on achieving maximum social gain (Dye, p.30)
Group Theory Model The group theory model, as defined by Dye, reflects that there is power in
numbers and that the influence of a group can be determined by numbers, wealth, organizational
strength, access to decision makers and internal cohesion (Dye, p.27). As the federal government
moves to make strict gun control laws and policies one extremely influential group has had
overwhelming success in slowing the process of these policies. That powerful group is known as the
National Rifle Association, a group founded in 1871 that has a focus on promoting and encouraging
rifle shooting. The NRA, already a large mass of like minded people, has been influencing policy
makers for decades via sending letters and eventually developing a

Introduction
Natural disasters occurring from the climate change could be on the rise. Global warming has been
rumored to be causing more hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, heavier monsoonal rains that cause major
flooding, mud slides, and other disasters worldwide. A tropical cyclone, also referred to as hurricanes,
typhoons, or cyclones, depending on where in the world the cyclone is occurring, are one of the world
s grandest shows of energy provided by nature. Hurricanes are large, swirling, low pressure storms
that have sustained winds of over 74 miles an hour and are formed over warm ocean waters (NASA,
n.d.). The purpose of this paper is to discuss hurricanes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beta drift is caused by the Coriolis Effect and tends to have more effect on the storm as it grows due
to the increased effect at higher latitudes. Other factors such as high pressure ridges, wind shear, other
hurricanes, land masses, and the jet stream also have a steering effect on hurricanes. With all the
different factors of propagation, the path a hurricane will take is very difficult to calculate.
Ocean Currents and Hurricanes Ocean currents effect hurricanes far more than hurricanes effect ocean
currents. Surface ocean currents carry the warm waters to the hurricane breeding areas and fuel the
storms with warm currents along their paths. Cold water currents also play a major role in robbing the
storms of one of their sources of fuel when hurricanes pass over the colder currents, like the ones
along the eastern U.S. border. Hurricanes with their strong winds cause huge waves, mix warm surface
waters and their currents, with the deeper cooler water. Not much is known about what happens to that
warmer water once it has been sunk into the depths of the ocean but some suggest that the heat is
transported towards the poles via ocean currents (Bettex, n.d.). The Gulf of Mexico s loop current
creates large warm water eddies in the gulf and is likely intensifying hurricanes that pass over them.
These eddies are blamed for fueling some of the worst storms ever, like Katrina and Rita ( Ocean
Motion and Surface Events , n.d.).

Descriptive Essay About A Runaway Bird
The Runaway Bird
I stood there looking in through the bars on the cage, watching the birds fly around their cage. I rested
my hands on one of the metal bars on the cage as I watched my favorite bird, Sky , she was the bird I
got for my 12th birthday that year. Sky was a bird with blue feathers and white areas on its stomach
that looked like clouds. I loved to watch the birds play with each other. I was aloud to hold them but I
was not aloud to take them out of the cage without an adult around And my mom was taking a nap.
My mom has black curly hair and brown eyes. I stood there watching and listening to the birds tweet,
chirp, and play. I really wanted to hold one Sky to be exact. I can hold Sky for a few minutes and no
one will know, I thought to myself, I just have to be quiet and I can t tell anyone. So I quickly scanned
the room to make sure no one was there. As soon as I knew no one was there I walked up to the cage. I
put my hand on the cage lock and I looked up to find Sky so I could get her. I slowly unlocked the
cage and I quickly opened the door. As soon as I opened the door a bird flew out. I shut the door as
fast as I could and turned around panicking looking for the bird. I searched every where and once I
couldn t find it I panicked even more but just when I was about to get up I heard a sound. CHIRP
CHIRP. It was the bird sitting on top of the big, tall bookcase.
I looked up at it panicking because the bookcase was too tall for me to reach the bird. I

Ethical Dilemmas In Medical Research
Doctors have always been thought of as the caretakers of mankind and that is why the type of
medicine performed by the doctors of Nazi Germany was so shocking, egregious and immoral that it
violated the trust placed in them by humanity. The Holocaust seems so far removed from our reality
today, and it may be hard for people to imagine the horrors inflicted by such doctors as Joseph
Mengele and others in the name of medical advancement . There is no doubt that these
experimentations are viewed as barbaric, unethical and thinly veiled under the guise of science. Many
feel that findings from these studies should never be published or used. An ethical and moral dilemma
still remains today as some of the research resulted in data that potentially ... Show more content on

One of the most gruesome and well known doctors of human experimentation during the Holocaust
was Josef Mengele. He was known as the Angel of Death (citation) or the White Angel for his cold
and cruel demeanor during the camp selection process (6). Mengele performed many horrific
experiments on twins. Most experiments were performed on Jewish and Roma (Gypsy) children in the
context of finding out the genetic origins of disease and to also to see if he could unlock the secret of
multiple births in the hopes of increasing the German race. Of the 1000 set of twins that were
experimented on, only 200 sets survived. (7). If Mengele did not deem the patients worthy of being
kept alive, he would have their bodies dissected and cataloged. Mengele did such atrocious things to
these children such as injecting lethal chemicals into their eyes in the hopes of creating blue eyes, a
requirement for his pursuit of the perfect Aryan specimen (6). He also injected the patients with
mysterious concoctions or syringes filled with diseases such as typhus or tuberculosis to see the
effects on the body. Another of his atrocities involved sewing twins together in the hopes of creating
his own set of Siamese twins. Moreover, Mengele performed surgeries without anesthesia for such
things as amputations, organ removal and

Sons and Lovers: A Psychoanalytic Criticism Psychoanalysis is a psychological approach that focuses
on the concepts of Sigmund Freud and helps us to understand human behavior. D.H. Lawrence s Sons
and Lovers (1913) is a text that cries out for a psychoanalytic interpretation. One of Freud s most
famous theories is the Oedipus complex, which deals with a child s emerging sexuality. Freud used the
story of Sophocles Oedipus Rex to help illustrate his theory. In the story, Oedipus unwittingly kills his

His relationship with his father is strained and he becomes jealous of him. He even asks his mother not
to sleep with the father anymore (Lawrence 215). Paul meets Miriam Leivers and although he likes
her, he repeats the same misogynistic behavior as William did with Lily. He feels he would be
betraying his mother by being with her. However, the idea that Paul is interested in someone other
than his mother shows an attempt to break the oedipal fixation he has. But, the mother foils this
attempt by making him feel guilty for wanting to be with Miriam. She says, I can t bear it. I could let
another woman but not her. She d leave me no room, not a bit of room. And I ve never you know Paul
I ve never had a husband, not really (Lawrence 212). This same behavior the mother exhibited with
William, by being jealous of his female companions, is now being inflicted on Paul. She reinforces the
Oedipus complex that is within Paul by suffocating him and in a subtle way asking him to replace her
husband. Paul s relationship with Miriam is reduced to friendship. He has to repress any romantic
feelings that he might have for her, so she will not replace his mother. Later in the novel, Paul does
become physically intimate with Miriam, but it is short lived because Paul will not marry her. This
also shows that Paul suffers from a fear of intimacy as he continues to remain emotionally detached
from Miriam. Once again, Paul succumbs

The black footed ferrets rely on prairie dogs and their colonies to provide shelter and food. These animals live mostly in a grassland habitat. A grassland habitat is basically an open prairie with minimal rainfall. Black footed ferrets are part of the weasel family. There used to be tens of thousands of black footed ferrets but by the 1960s they became almost extinct. Most frequent meals for a ferret are prairie dogs. They will also dine on rodents, different types of squirrels, birds, and rabbits. They once lived throughout the United States (U.S.), Canada, and Mexico. Now the new population has been introduced to 8 U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico. • 8. Essay on The Transcontinental Railroad And Westward... The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion Thesis: The transcontinental railroad greatly increased Westward expansion in the United States of America during the latter half of the nineteenth century. The history of the United States has been influenced by England in many ways. In the second half of the 1800 s, the railroad, which was invented in England, had a major effect on Western expansion in the United States. quot;Railroads were born in England, a country with dense populations, short distances between cities, and large financial resources. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Romantics dreamed of the discoveries of wild Indians, scouts and hunters, and, of course, gold. Gold had been a desired find throughout the exploration of America. The California Gold Rush of 1849 again created much excitement about the search for gold. The Pacific Railroads were founded when the Civil War was in progress. Until the war was over, the transcontinental railroad was a giant enterprise stalled by much bickering between a reluctant Congress and the Army, who had clamored for it (Cooke 254). If it had been left to the government, it would have taken another twenty years to complete the transcontinental railroad. However, it was a commercial venture, and it was fortunately fed by the adrenaline of competition. There were two railroad companies building the transcontinental railroad, the Union Pacific from the East, and the Central Pacific from the West. The two companies struggled to beat each other in slamming down a record mileage of track. At first, Congress avidly pursued the project and they had stipulated that the Central Pacific should stop when it reached the California Border (Congress was full of Easterners). In 1865, after much argument about the aid the government was providing to the two companies, the actual construction of the transcontinental railroad was started. Then in 1866, Congress decided that two companies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Society s Current Structure Of Masculinity Society s current structure of masculinity is unforgiving in form. It cuts out other forms of masculinity, it physically and mentally demanding, and its ill effects extend far beyond the men it infuses itself in. Yet what would we do if we were given other options for masculinity, ones that allowed for unique blends of attitudes and perceptions? Looking in to the lives of homeless men we can see the forced strategies which create new masculine codes created for the adaption against patriarchal pressures. They are made out of survival need to circumnavigate the painful mental and physical reality that is only made worse by harsh masculine standards. Yet these new masculinities hold out a form of hopefulness for society. They offer up new discussion to what it means to be a man, the potential for change, and what we can expect from changes in male identity over time. Using what we learn from the disadvantaged, we can hope to improve the lives of people, although the process will take time, effort, and careful mediation. Timothy Nonn s Hitting Bottom: Homelessness, Poverty, and Masculinity touches on the complicated issues homeless men face, especially in terms of adapting to pressures of hegemonic masculinity. The mental and physical stress of homelessness for men stems from a denial of identity due to the rigid construction of maleness. • 11. How Does Frost Use Figurative Language In Birches The poem, Birches written by Robert Frost, depicts author s personal desire to escape the normality of life through the mirage of climbing a birch tree. With distinctive use of diction, imagery, and figurative language, Frost manages to indirectly understand his way of perceiving life. His view of the normality and repetition that exists everyday is hidden within words written. When seeing Birch trees, bent by the cumbersome snow of the long winter, Frost likes to imagine a boy s been swinging them (Frost, 3). This is a portrayal of his desire to escape the mundane characteristics of everyday life, and enjoy himself by imagining the boy riding them down over and over again (29). Life can be laborious and stressful, and there are always going to be hard uncertainties that can strain the individual s mind, and using figurative language helps the author show this by comparing it to a worn branch. Essay on Foucault Panopticism Panopticism by Michel Focault Works Cited Not Included Our society is not one of spectacle, but of surveillance; under the surface of images, one invests bodies in depth; behind the great abstraction of exchange, there continues the meticulous concrete training of useful forces; the circuits of communication are the supports of an accumulation and a centralization of knowledge; the play of signs defines the anchorages of power; it is not that the beautiful totality of the individual is amputated, repressed, altered by our social order, it is rather that the individual is carefully fabricated in it, according to a whole technique of forces and bodies. The persons with the plague (lepers were included in this group) were always observed to account for their presence. These people were supposed to be present at their windows for attendance. Where they not present at the time, they were marked as dead. Their family would be removed, the house would be cleaned out, perfumed, and then, a mere four hours later, people would move back in. Obviously, the fear of not being observed would be strong in this situation, a direct result of the drastic measures taken once someone s presence could not be observed. Though this fear has the opposite motivation of the healthy citizens, who, knowing they are being watched, are afraid to do wrong, it works on the same basic principle. That if one knows they are being watched, it remains a constant consideration in their mind, regardless of the presence of an observer, the fear will always be present. The Panopticon, a prison described by Foucault, is a machine for dissociating the see/being seen dyad: in the peripheric ring, one is totally seen, without ever seeing (321, Foucault). This literally means that in the formation of the panopticon those who are being seen can not see one another and the one who sees everything can never be seen. That is the most important tool of the panopticon. Foucault makes this assumption about today s society by saying that we are always being watched whether we know it or not. The bluntness with which Holden reveals his death is representative of the effective use of simple language on the part of Salinger. Complex vocabulary is not used because it is not needed the incident stands out more against a plainer backdrop. The fact that Allie died of Leukaemia also makes the event more devastating. He died extremely prematurely and Holden s downfall suggests that his death impacted him in a huge way. Holden was intensely fond of his brother and refers to him throughout the entirety of the novel. He comments: You would have liked him when personally addressing the reader. We therefore feel involved in his story and emotion is evoked when we hear of his passing. It also acts as an explanation for Holden s difficulties. He struggles immensely throughout adolescence as he fails to accept the transition from childhood to adulthood, perhaps because he described Allie as mature for his age. Critically evaluate the arguments of Athanasius and Arius at the Council of Nicaea The Patristic Era saw various controversies arising over the nature of Jesus Christ, which consequently lead to the establishment of the creed as an attempt to reject the heretical views held by proponents. An example of a heretical advocate is Arius, who suggested Christ was inferior to God, but still above other creatures (McGrath, 2001, p.358). However, early orthodox theologians disputed this idea due to the soteriological complications that accompanied it (Young, 2010, p.55). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This heretical view is further fought against through Athanasius extensive focus on Jesus death and the implications that this had on humanity as told by the Bible (Young, 2010, p.55); Romans (10:9) explicitly states Jesus is the Lord and the only route to salvation. So it can be argued, if Jesus is not God, as Arius suggests, then it is not possible for humanity to reach salvation, which results in diminishment of the purpose of Christian faith. Thus, it is acceptable to assume that the Nicene Creed s assertion of the homoousious relationship of God and Jesus, as a rejection of Arianism, was essential to early Christian theology because it provided certainty for the establishment of the faith. Although the consubstantial nature of Jesus and God was confirmed at Nicaea, it wasn t definitively defined because Arians responded with another heretical view: Jesus and God were homoiousious. The belief that God and Jesus were only similar in nature allowed for subordinationism to manifest, which was a heresy that asserted God the Father was superior to Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Williams, 2001, p.133). So this belief accepts the Trinity but has misinterpreted the orthodox declaration of the idea. • 30. Gun Control Policies Applied To Rational And Group Theory... Short Analysis of Gun Control Policies Applied to Rational and Group Theory Models In 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School was victim of a terrible mass shooting that prompted several states and cities to pass strict gun control measures. This sparked a widely debated and controversial issue for gun friendly states in the South and West, who responded with bills that would strengthen Stand Your Ground laws and allow weapons in most public places. The nation continues to be divided on gun control policies, as it is very controversial and continues to be a very hot topic in society today. There has been a rise in gun violence throughout the years, and it has been widely been debated that guns are too easily accessible and there is a continued push for stricter gun laws that can reduce the risk of gun violence. This paper will focus on the implementation of two models of public policy; Group Model and Rational Model. Group Theory begins with, the proposition that interaction among groups is the central fact of politics. Group Theory is when individuals with common interests band together formally or informally to press their demands upon government, a shared attitude group that makes certain claims upon other groups in society (Dye, p. 26). Additionally, this paper will apply the rational model to gun control policies. Rational policy, as defined by Dye, is a policy that gives the majority of society what they want. It has emphasis on achieving maximum social gain (Dye, p.30) Group Theory Model The group theory model, as defined by Dye, reflects that there is power in numbers and that the influence of a group can be determined by numbers, wealth, organizational strength, access to decision makers and internal cohesion (Dye, p.27). As the federal government moves to make strict gun control laws and policies one extremely influential group has had overwhelming success in slowing the process of these policies. That powerful group is known as the National Rifle Association, a group founded in 1871 that has a focus on promoting and encouraging rifle shooting. The NRA, already a large mass of like minded people, has been influencing policy makers for decades via sending letters and eventually developing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Sci 209 Week 4 Paper Oceans, Hurricanes, and the Climate SCI 209 Your Name March 01, 2010 Introduction Natural disasters occurring from the climate change could be on the rise. A tropical cyclone, also referred to as hurricanes, typhoons, or cyclones, depending on where in the world the cyclone is occurring, are one of the world s grandest shows of energy provided by nature. Beta drift is caused by the Coriolis Effect and tends to have more effect on the storm as it grows due to the increased effect at higher latitudes. Other factors such as high pressure ridges, wind shear, other hurricanes, land masses, and the jet stream also have a steering effect on hurricanes. With all the different factors of propagation, the path a hurricane will take is very difficult to calculate. Ocean Currents and Hurricanes Ocean currents effect hurricanes far more than hurricanes effect ocean currents. Surface ocean currents carry the warm waters to the hurricane breeding areas and fuel the storms with warm currents along their paths. Cold water currents also play a major role in robbing the storms of one of their sources of fuel when hurricanes pass over the colder currents, like the ones along the eastern U.S. border. Hurricanes with their strong winds cause huge waves, mix warm surface waters and their currents, with the deeper cooler water. Not much is known about what happens to that warmer water once it has been sunk into the depths of the ocean but some suggest that the heat is transported towards the poles via ocean currents (Bettex, n.d.). The Gulf of Mexico s loop current creates large warm water eddies in the gulf and is likely intensifying hurricanes that pass over them. These eddies are blamed for fueling some of the worst storms ever, like Katrina and Rita ( Ocean Motion and Surface Events , n.d.). Hurricanes, Storm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethical Dilemmas In Medical Research Doctors have always been thought of as the caretakers of mankind and that is why the type of medicine performed by the doctors of Nazi Germany was so shocking, egregious and immoral that it violated the trust placed in them by humanity. The Holocaust seems so far removed from our reality today, and it may be hard for people to imagine the horrors inflicted by such doctors as Joseph Mengele and others in the name of medical advancement . There is no doubt that these experimentations are viewed as barbaric, unethical and thinly veiled under the guise of science. He even asks his mother not to sleep with the father anymore (Lawrence 215). Paul meets Miriam Leivers and although he likes her, he repeats the same misogynistic behavior as William did with Lily. He feels he would be betraying his mother by being with her. However, the idea that Paul is interested in someone other than his mother shows an attempt to break the oedipal fixation he has. But, the mother foils this attempt by making him feel guilty for wanting to be with Miriam. She says, I can t bear it. I could let another woman but not her. She d leave me no room, not a bit of room. And I ve never you know Paul I ve never had a husband, not really (Lawrence 212). This same behavior the mother exhibited with William, by being jealous of his female companions, is now being inflicted on Paul. She reinforces the Oedipus complex that is within Paul by suffocating him and in a subtle way asking him to replace her husband. Paul s relationship with Miriam is reduced to friendship. He has to repress any romantic feelings that he might have for her, so she will not replace his mother. Later in the novel, Paul does become physically intimate with Miriam, but it is short lived because Paul will not marry her.
