2. Essay on Jeremy Bentham Influence on Future
Essay on Jeremy Bentham s influence
Jeremy Bentham was born in 1748 in London, England. He was a utilitarianist, which is the idea that
the right judgment is the judgment that brings the most happiness. Also an Atheist, Bentham was seen
as the person who popularized utilitarianism. Bentham believed we could quantify or measure
pleasure. He helped found the London College, in which his body was embalmed and used as a
reminder of himself, and wrote many books on utilitarianism and found the best way to influence a
decision was through pamphleteering. He died in 1832 in England. Even though he died, Jeremy
Bentham left a legacy behind him. His ideas are still relevant many years after his death. Jeremy
Bentham s ideas changed the political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also believed, No power of government ought to be employed in the endeavor to establish any
system or article of belief on the subject of religion. (Duignan, 200) Bentham strongly believed in the
separation of church and state and he tried to stop the government to be too Christian related.
Bentham revolutionized prisons and made them both more affective and hospitable. Bentham
designed a type of prison watch tower called the panopticon. The panopticon design allowed observers
in an institution to keep an eye on the inmates without the inmates knowing. (Warburton, 124) The
English parliament promised to construct the panopticon, but they didn t. Despite this fact, other
prisons around the world used his design like the Kilmainham Gaul in Dublin. (Jeremy Bentham life,
Paragraph 11) By not having the inmates know if they were being watched or not, it would make the
inmates behave better. If the inmates behaved better, then the prison would be more effective in
enforcing proper behavior. Jeremy Bentham believed, All punishment in itself is evil, and it should
only be used to diminish greater evil. (Living philosophy, paragraph 3) He attacked criminal laws
viciously due to his belief that the prisons were too harsh. Bentham had a campaign for penal reform,
which included making prisons more hospitable. (Strangroom, 95). Bentham recognized that prisons
were necessary and decided to make them as less harsh as possible so they do not inflict pain. He

3. Poetic Devices Used In Land Of Roos
There are many poetic devices used in land of roos to remind readers what their connection with
Australia and their personality is. The use of rhythm, similes, and rhyme create a strong connection
together in the poem and benefit the readers to understand what Australian individuality means and
what inspires them to act, be, or think like an Australian. Repetition is used at the start and end of the
poem, Land of cockatoos, land of punching roos (stanza 1 and 4, line 2 and 3). The recurrence of land

5. Boyle s Law And Scuba Diving Techniques
Even though there may be other laws that are just as important to know, Robert Boyle created a law
named Boyle s Law that has important relevancy to anyone who is a scuba diver. Knowing the
breakdown of how Boyle s law works allows for safe practices and scuba diving techniques. Many
instructors train, and make sure they teach their students the law, to prevent life threatening
circumstances. It is crucial to know, who created the law for legibility, how the law works
scientifically, and its relationship to scuba diving.

Oppositely, if the gas decreases in size the molecules will subside and the pressure will drop. (Hess,
2016) In order to understand this mathematically, and get the approximate value, p (pressure) and v

conditions the equation is demonstrated as P1V1=P2V2. (Hess, 2016) This will give you an
approximation in numbers, if the volume, and or pressure, has either increased or decreased. Knowing
this has contributed to the understanding of how much oxygen to give and how the body reacts while
scuba diving
Scuba divers trained well on knowing Boyle s law, and how the body reacts while underwater, could
prevent possible life threatening circumstances. In any scuba diving safety training, Boyle s law is
used as a primary example of the physiological reaction that the body will go through while
underwater. A primary example that most scuba divers are trained on in relation to Boyle s law is that
a balloon pushed underwater, for example, shrinks as its volume is compressed (2014). Conversely, a
balloon inflated underwater and released expands and may burst as it rises and its volume expands
(2014). At sea level the pressure is at 1 atm (760mmHg), which is 14.7 pounds per square inch and
because seawater is less dense a diver is exposed to a much higher pressure (Meeraus, 2001). This
means that the lower the diver descends

6. Revolutionary War Tactics
In every major military operation, terrain, troops and weapons often dictate the way the war is fought.
The American Revolutionary War was a prime example of this military strategy. It is often said that
the Patriots use of guerrilla warfare was the reason why the Americans were successful in defeating
the British. However, the Americans employed various tactics both on and off the battlefield that led
to the ultimate defeat of the British. The American Patriots won the Revolutionary War not through the
sole use of guerrilla warfare, but rather through an amalgamation of guerrilla warfare, linear battle
tactics, and the employment of espionage.

The small arms that the army did have were often defective and gunpowder was scarce. The standard
musket used by the militia was inefficient in terms of fighting on the larger scale battle fields. Not
only were the bullets completely inaccurate at 300 yards but they were also no longer lethal at that
distance. Additionally, the rifles the militia used were their own and not available to the Continental
Army as a whole. Therefore, the Continental Army began using the Brown Bess , the musket with
bayonet attachment that the British Army used. They became available as the Patriots would capture
British troops and were also shipped in from European manufacturers. Although it was highly
inaccurate and was very time consuming in terms of reloading, considering it was used in mass in the
linear formation of the ranks and file of the standing armies, it was highly effective in terms of the
volleying of the rounds. At fifty yards, the Brown Bess would have an eighteen inch variance.
However, in linear formations, this variance could be overcome and injury could still be imposed as
soldiers were closely filed together. The musket weighed approximately 13 pounds and released a
large amount of smoke after it was fired. Therefore, the linear tactics had to be employed to allow for
repeated volleys, firing rank by rank, and thus unleashing more damage at approximately nine rounds
per volley. Furthermore, the Brown Bess had the capability of attaching bayonets, which were also
necessary on the battlefield. The bayonet was inserted down the barrel of the musket, which was
imperative for close quarter hand to hand combat when time did not allow to reload the musket and
the enemy was too close. Linear tactics also allowed Washington s use of artillery, although it was
limited. Washington utilized light, mobile cannons and field artillery to push back the

to add an apology, explanation or an excuse why we refused the offer. There are also examples when

From the start, I knew I wanted to display the young girl from Style in my collage since I thought it
would be the best way to insert myself into the piece. I wanted to express how war spins from hell and
violence, to beauty and peace. O Brien tells many stories that seem terrible, but end with some beauty
or peace behind it. O Brien juggles the idea of spinning, from the girl dancing surrounded by
wreckage, to O Brien s mind spinning out of the control of rational thought as he wonders what could
have been of the man he killed, and to the beauty O Brien found in his dream with Linda, turning
Linda s traumatic death into a peaceful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

10. Huckleberry Finn Character Analysis
Portrayed in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain reveals Huck s character to be
independent when he portrays himself as transparent, honest, and truthful; as a result, Widow Douglas
wants to civilize Huck because if he does not he will die according to his religion like his caretakers
say and will not go to heaven. In the piece, Twain reveals that ¨The widow she cried over me...called
me a poor lost lamb¨ (para. 3). By Widow Douglas naming him a ¨poor lost lamb¨ she thinks of him as
unordinary for being himself, an individual. The Widow wants to change his appearance and how he
acts so he can fit in with ¨white society¨. Huck disobeys what society feels he should will not get him

According to the piece Miss Watson argues that ¨she was going to live as to go to the good place¨
(para.6). The piece supports the argument that Huck does not want to be in heaven with Widow
Douglas or Miss Watson. Miss Watson has to keep a respectful way of living to go to heaven and
Huck does not plan to convert the same way as them. Huck is not being what they considered
¨respectful¨ and instead is getting into his old rags, running away, and uneducated. Another example,
in the piece is when Huck illustrates that ¨There was things which he stretched, but mainly he told the
truth¨ (para. 1). Huck refers to the author as lying in his stories in some cases just like Miss Watson
portrays herself as religious, but has an adopted son who she lives with that is not like society. She is
being a liar to the rest of the society because her religious allows her to be what she wants and that is
why she wants to change Huck because she is the religious one. Huck feels he is better off on his own
because he does not want to be raised by people who are not fully religious like they are claiming and
wanting Huck to be. To conclude, Huck is more comfortable having his freedom than what Miss
Watson is providing him

and John Kelley could join them. But both Puisis and Kelley lost in the final seconds of their matches.
That must have been tough to see them get so close and miss by just a few seconds.
VB: John and Seth both had a tremendous season. They both placed at the masters. They missed the
top six, which is the qualifiers for the state, by seconds. John gave up an escape with four seconds left.
So he was four seconds away from winning that match. Seth was 10 seconds away. He gave up a

12. Motivation And Introduction Of Handwriting
Motivation and Introduction
Handwriting has continued to persist as a means of communication and recording information in day
to day life with the introduction of new technologies. Given its ubiquity in human transactions,
machine recognition of handwriting has a practical significance in reading postal addresses on
envelopes, in amounts in bank cheques, in handwritten fields in forms. Handwriting is a skill that is
personal to individuals. Writing is considered to have made possible much of a culture and
civilization. The reason that handwriting persists in the age of digital computer is the convenience of
paper and pen as compared to keyboards.
The printing press and type writers opened up the world to formatted documents. Computers and
communication technologies such as word processors, fax machines, and emails are having an impact
on literary and handwriting. Widespread acceptance of digital computers seemingly challenges the
future of handwriting. However, in numerous situations, a pen together with a paper is much more
convenient than a keyboard. Ultimately computer will have to process handwriting in an
unconstrained environment, deal with many writing styles and languages, work with arbitrary user
defined alphabets, and understand any handwritten message by any writer.
Handwriting recognition is a pattern classification task which consists of detecting keywords in
handwritten document images. It is the task of transforming a language represented in its spatial form

13. The Quiet American Movie Vs Book
Philip Noyce s version of Graham Greene s novel The Quiet American to film was a large success. It
stayed pretty close to the book, and kept the personalities of the character s the same. What I respected
about the movie was that the director chose to film in actual Vietnamese locations and without
compromise, boldly sticking to the novel by not letting the Americans come out of the story too
kindly. It was filmed greatly and he captured so many details of Vietnam. Brenden Fraiser and

He has negative outlook on what seems like everything. I personally had a hard time reading the book
because of the negativity from Fowler. Pyle in the book was the opposite. I was more interested in
Pyle because of his softer nature. What I like about Pyle is how he would stick up and defend Phuong
when Fowler made rude comments. Fowler said that Phuong was merely a beautiful tool for his sexual
pleasures. Pyle responded That s a dirty crack. I won t have her insulted. You have no right... (TQA,
Graham Greene, 1955, pg 78) This shows Pyle s passion and soft nature. Michael Caine is excellent as
Fowler in the movie. He plays an aging unmotivated but skilled reporter very good. On the other hand
Fowler in the film is a lot more vulnerable, especially as the film goes on, and his weaknesses begins
to show. The movie never shows Fowler telling Pyle how he feels about Phuong. He says that he is
detached but then becomes very involved in what is going on around him. With that action I feel it
shows that he does care about Phuong but doesn t know how to handle it. Thomas Fowler is a
complex character, and it is hard to compare him to his character in the book. The movie doesn t show
his personality and depth of character as the book does. The movie portrays him more likeable with
more dignity and less bitter. Fowler s character does still give us that deep sense of how the political
he is. Although I was disappointed because I feel they took a huge part of the book and tossed it out by

18. Identify And Explain The Difference Between Voluntary And...
Every day, our body naturally responds to environmental stimuli by one of two mechanisms, a
voluntary reaction or an involuntary reflex. The nerves and muscles work together to respond to a
change in the body s environment, both internal and external, with the intent of maintaining a
homeostatic state. Common reflexes include slipping and righting oneself, as well as immediately and
naturally withdrawing a body part that made contact with a hot object. A reflex typically occurs prior
to the brain fully processing the information regarding the stimulus. Conversely, a voluntary action is
controllable and learned by experience (G). The most wellÂ
known learned response is Pavlov s dogs,
who were shown to salivate at the ring of a bell because it signaled food was coming.

receives a stimulus from the environment. This stimulus elicits an action potential, which carries ...

20. The Mystery Of The Salem Witchcraft Trials
The Mystery of the Salem Witchcraft Trials Jennifer Hollenbeck AP United States History Mrs. Price
November 12, 2014 The Salem witchcraft trials were a particularly dark and mysterious time in the
history of America. These trials that were arranged upon the belief of witchcraft could have multiple
explanations. In my opinion these trials began as a combination between religious factors, boredom,
social issues and all coming together in a mess of suspicion and deceit. Although these trials did start
because of the Puritan s imagination, their true religious belief in witchcraft, childish antics, and their
hatred for their neighbors helped to fuel their imagination. The people s imagination began to lead the
people in the town of Salem, Massachusetts into a deadly witch hunt. The Salem Witchcraft Trials
were a series of trials in Salem, Massachusetts which accused many local women with witchcraft. The
legal proceedings began in the spring of 1692. More than two hundred people were accused of this

21. California Court Case Analysis
The second case Plata v. Davis the State a California realized that nothing has changed to better the
medical care for prisoners that are staying in one of the thirty three prisons in California (Specter,
2010). Both of these cases take a look at how the medical needs of prisoners are being neglected that
results in injury and death (Specter, 2010). The reasoning for such neglect for the health of inmates
comes down to the problem of overcrowding; severe overcrowding makes it impossible to keep a
prison safe (Specter, 2010). The two California court cases were combined into one case Plata v.
Schwarzenegger when taken to a three judge court (Griffin III et al., 2013). The three judges

22. Summary Of The Poem To A Mouse
In the poem To a Mouse by Robert Burns, the little mouse plans to build a home but gets destroyed by
the farmer with the plow. Similarly, in the novel Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck, George, and Lennie s
dream of owning a farm gets destroyed by Curley. In the poem To a Mouse by Burns, the speaker
writes an apology to the mouse for the way it gets treated by humans. The speaker describes the
mouse as a sleek, tiny, timorous, cowering beast that is running away from humans. He tells the mouse
that he does not need to run away from him. He says to the mouse, why dash away, so quick, so rash,
in a frenzied flash when I would be loath to run after you . The speaker means no harm but the mouse
s first instinct is to run when he sees humans because he expects to get chased by humans. The
speaker understands the reasons for the mouse sometimes stealing food. The narrator says I have no
doubt you sometimes shiver; What of it, friend? You too must live! He knows that the mouse must
find a way to get food, so it can survive. The little mouse had a home built to keep warm but the
farmer with the plow unintentionally destroyed its home. When apologizing to the mouse the speaker
says Your tiny house lies in a ruin, its fragile walls and rent and strewn! Now nothing s left to build
you a new one of mosses green. The mouse plans to have a home for winter gets destroyed. The
farmer destroying the mouse s home shows that dreams and plans can be destroyed by something or
someone.

The Ebola outbreak of 2014 in West Africa with its devastating outcomes has been a worldwide
alarming situation leading to the development of research studies in attempt to better understand the
disease and find ways of controlling its spread. One of the most affected countries, Liberia, has been
the subject of a research study conducted by doctors and epidemiologists of Yale University in

dependent variable of the study is identified as the Ebola virus transmission, while two independent
variables are considered to be the viral load and the amount of contacts of an infected person. This
means that infected individuals are more contagious when their viral load is high, thus the more close

24. Second Letter To Corinthians
2 CORINTHIANS 8 AND 9: CHRISTIAN GIVING
In chapters eight and nine of the second letter to the Corinthians, Paul wrote principles and
instructions in giving that a Christian should live by and recognize. In this paper, a few will be studied
and analyzed through the account of Paul s involvement in the Jerusalem collection to get a better
understanding of them, but most importantly to see how God wants Christians to apply these to their
lives. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a
cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7).
A major example of giving begins with Paul and his account of the financial need that was obviously
very great for the young New Testament church. The less time that ... Show more content on

As Christians it is required that faith is proved by works. A Christian that believes in the Savior of the
world but does not obey Him is worthless. James wrote What does it profit, my brethren, if someone
says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and
destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do
not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus, also faith by itself,
if it does not have works, is dead (James 2:15 17). Later in verse nineteen, James rebukes that even
demons believe in the Lord. Nevertheless, a Christian proves his worth, proves His love for the Lord
by doing His will, and His will is that Christians not only help each other, Therefore, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians
6:10). Jesus Christ also requires Christians to be examples of working men, women, and families to
the world, You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14).

26. Five Main Cause Why World War I Happen Essay
World War One killed 9,906,000 soldiers, 21,219,000 soldiers got wounded and 7,750,000 soldiers
were missing. It was a war between the Allied Powers, which were France, Russia, Britain, Italy and
the United States, and the Central Powers, which were Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman
Empire. The five main causes of the war were militarism, alliances, imperialism, nationalism, and
certain events that happened that lead to war (MAINE). The first cause of World War One was due to
militarism. World War One was the result of too much military power. Britain had a stronger military
power (Royal Navy) because it had the highest per capita expenditures. The desire for military power
was high because everyone was building their armies up to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The fourth cause of World War One was nationalism. Germany did not want to take responsibility for
the war, since they didn t start it, they were merely aiding Austria Hungary in their war. Germany
confessing to starting the war all by themselves wouldn t be the complete truth, since it was not all
their fault. They were just helping aid Austria Hungary with their pursuits on Serbia. Germany s rise to
power was unsettling to many countries. Tensions rose, fear of military powers being higher than one s
own became prominent. Every country involved wanted to be better than all the rest. The fifth cause
of World War One was the event of an assassination. Austria Hungary demanded that Serba take
action against those responsible for the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. When Serbia
failed to meet these demands, Austria Hungary declared war on them. This was one of the main events
that kick started World War One because soon after, Germany got involved alongside them, and Serbia
s allies got involved. In conclusion, World War One was a rather eventful war, there were many things
that set things in motion. The main causes of World War one were militarism, alliances, imperialism,
nationalism, and certain events that turned countries against each other. World War one serves as a
reminder to us that with power comes responsibility, and if used wrong, it can cause more harm than
good. It also shows us that all conflict that is caused between

Prior to the treatment of the ribosome, the P sites would function as the binding force holding the
growing polypeptide chain of the amino acid to the peptidyl site. This is in correlation to the process
of translation, in which the RNA is translated into a polypeptide chain with the aid of Ribosomal RNA
and transfer RNA. To begin the process prior to treatment, first the initiation process starts through
tRNA and methionine serving as catalyst to form a complete ribosome in an empty A site. The RNA s
from the A site are linked to the P site which allows the appropriate amino acids to connect with RNA
using the A site as an amino acid storage for the polypeptide chain. Without the P site, or the blockage

De Methylation is the removal of methyl groups from DNA all together, which would lead to active
corresponding cancer genes thus enhancing the threat. So far it is clear to scientists that Methylation of
DNA directly influences gene expression, cancer being abnormal in expression patterns. In repressing
or stimulating methylation in the cell, research indicates that transcription of cancer cells can be
repressed which could lead to cancer gene arrest. This drug would be a good candidate for an anti
cancer drug because if we re able to correct the DNA methylation in cancer cells, they would be able
to behave normally. Methylation inhibitors could assist in reactivating epigenetically silenced genes in
cancer and reverse aberrant DNA methylation restoring regular gene functions and tumor cell growth
arrest.
The group of genes that would cause the most problems for an organism if mutated would be the
Homeobox Genes. The Homeobox Genes are a class of regulatory genes that are used to help regulate
the gene expression, and assist with body structure formation during early embryonic development.
Pertaining to Transcription, there are a couple factors typically encoded by the proteins in the
Homeobox gene, within the gene, that bind to and control activities of other genes in the Homeobox

Differences and Similarities Between Reagan and Gorbachev
The Cold War, which started sometime in the 1940 s, was a large quarrel between the United States
and the Soviet Union. This dispute involved a lot of propaganda and threats of nuclear warfare.
Despite all of the trouble though, after over forty years of fighting, the two leaders of these countries
(Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev) would finally work out a solution. However, although they
did reach an agreement, there were many differences between these two men. One way in which these
men were dissimilar is that they were leaders of different countries, each with their own ideas and
opinions on how things should be dealt with. For example, Ronald Reagan was the president ... Show

This is especially true for Gorbachev because he knew that The Cold War needed to end. However, in
taking the steps to do this, Gorbachev eventually caused the collapse of The Soviet Union. However,
in the end, he was ending the war for the greater good. This is a respectable and admirable trait of
Gorbachev that is known globally. Another characteristic that Reagan and Gorbachev shared was how
popular they were with the American people. Ronald Reagan was a popular president by the end of his
time, and most Americans liked and respected him. Mikhail Gorbachev was also well respected by the
Americans because he allowed the destruction of the Berlin wall and was eventually to blame for the
fall of the Soviet Union. The United States saw Gorbachev as both an ally and a friend. The Soviets on
the other hand had mixed opinions on him. This makes him dissimilar to Reagan because he was not
popular with his own people. In addition to this similarity, Reagan and Gorbachev also shared yet
another attribute. This trait was that these two men worked immensely to put an end to The Cold War.
They were able to do this in many ways. For example, Reagan and Gorbachev swapped letters
multiple times on business. These letters show that these two men worked together and eventually
became acquaintances. These men showed diligence in their dealings with one

COLLAPSE OF THE SOVIET UNION
To understand why unlike the Soviet Union s political system, China s is not near collapse, one must
first understand why and how the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) collapsed, resulting
in the collapse of the Soviet Union itself. After the October Revolution, the CPSU adopted Leninism
as the main party ideology, and moved swiftly to adopt socialist changes. However, as Lenin s health
declined, his main supporters, Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, began fighting amongst themselves.

Leonid Brezhnev, who took power after Khrushchev, attempted to reinstate Stalinism back into the
Soviet Union. His reign created the neo Stalinist period in Russia, albeit with a series of economic
reforms that favored light industries and the production of consumer goods than heavy industry.
Brezhnev also supported weakening animosities with the West in order to improve relations,
attempting to improve the social and economic condition within the Soviet Union. However, due to
health problems, much of the actual implementation was carried out by others within the CPSU
leadership. Being on average older than the general population, the CPSU leadership was mostly
conservative, which hindered the progress. Overall, through trying to combine the conservative and
relatively outdated ideologies of Stalinism with failing economic reforms, Brezhnev was credited with
the Era of Stagnation in the Soviet Union, being unable to deal with both internal and international
affairs. Following Brezhnev was Yuri Andropov, a reformist who, during his short time as the General
Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, pushed for more freedom in media and appointed
several other reformers into key positions in the CPSU. Konstantin Chernenko, who took power
against Andropov s wishes following his demise, attempted to shift back into the Brezhnev era
policies, while also promoting reforms in education and the role of labor unions. However, poor health
prevented him from properly implementing policies, and de facto power remained with reformer
Mikhail Gorbachev. By this point, the constant fighting between reformists and Stalinists, together
with conflicting and ineffective policies, had severely damaged the Soviet economy, as well as
deteriorated international relations, escalating the Cold War, and slowly worsened socioeconomic and

The United States is under attack. To be exact, the nation s power grid is under attack in the form of
cyber warfare. On May 21st, 2013 Congressmen Edward J. Markey and Henry A Waxman published a
report that provided the findings from information that they had requested from over 150 utility

showed the blackout was caused by a combination of human error and equipment failure. To prevent
issues like this in the future a smart grid needs to be developed that would monitor and repair itself in
the event of problems. Essentially computers and applications would be the first responder when there
is an equipment failure on the grid. The problem with this solution is that by placing more of the

whether a number of songs on an album still matters, does it mean the track listing becomes a thing of
the past and can hit songs now be relied upon to generate profits as opposed to the declining album
format?

Steve Jobs claimed that Apple s 0.99 solutions would be the model for selling and distributing digital
music files online in post Napster world (Jobs,2003)
Digital formats promote the disaggregation of music (Bakos 1997, Drew 2005)
Disaggregation carries the challenges for the overall integrity of the album as the most leading form of
music products. It also allows for different types of showcasing and retailing music in the way that
reaggregates into new forms of commodified packages.
Radiohead s initial resistance to appearing on the iTunes store was because the band refused to sell
songs individually, because it wanted to keep the album, as an artistic statement, whole (Van Buskirk,
2007)
The splintering of music has, in turn, created a multitude of repackaging options for music.
Playlists haven t displaced the album, but they have however relegated it to just of the many ways in
which people choose to consume music.
The fundamental difference between digital downloads and physical goods. In terms of digital, the
consumer is not limited to tracks that the label decides to issue as singles. Every track is available for
individual download. The numbers overwhelmingly show that consumers prefer being able to buy the
only tracks they want.

41. What Are The Avengers Laufeyson Persuasive Essay
Loki Laufeyson is probably one of Marvels best villains. Not only does he have magic, but he comes
back every time the Avengers think he s imprisoned. He always manages to get out of even the most hi
tech prisons. Most people remember Loki from the 2012 Marvels: The Avengers Movie. He was the
main bad guy, though it is said he was working for Thanos. It is unknown of whether he was being
mind controlled or was doing it of his own free will. Though from what I have read, I believe he was
doing it to prove to Odin that he should be king of Asgard instead of Thor.
Loki was originally the son of Laufey, Frost giant and King of Jotunheim, but when Odin went to war
against the frost giants, he killed Laufey. Odin found Loki in the stronghold and took him to be raised
by him and his wife Frigga. He grew up within his brother, Thor s, ... Show more content on

Thor got his Hammer back and returned to Asgard and fought Loki. Loki was with his mother Frigga
in his fathers chambers when Thor got their. Loki had killed a Frost giant because he wanted his
mother to believe that he didn t let the Frost giant s into Asgard. Thor made Loki admit to what he had
done in front of Frigga, and Loki said he only did it because he was the rightful heir to the throne not
Thor. Thor was fighting Loki on the bridge when the bridge broke, Loki was falling but Thor grabbed
his brothers hand before he fell, Odin was there holding Thor from falling. Loki asked Odin if he had
proved that he could be king instead of Thor, when Odin said that Loki had not proved himself that he
had just gotten himself in a lot of trouble Loki let go of Thor s hand and fell to his death. We later find
out that Loki had faked his death and came back to the palace in disguise as a guard. He told Odin and
Frigga that they had found Loki s body, even when everyone mourned for his death, he still didn t

42. Iron In Ancient China Research Paper
Iron In Ancient China
Iron was first found being used in about 5000 B.C. in Mesopotamia. But the Chinese started to use it
in 1500 B.C. Iron revolutionised the ancient chinese warfare and created strong trade relationships.
The chinese switched from using bronze to iron in 1500 BC. They switched because there was an
abundance of it and it was also stronger than bronze in some cases. Iron allowed the chinese to make
items that were much more durable. Iron a lot harder to smelt but when placed in a smelter with two
percent carbon generated by the fire it would make one of the strongest substances on earth. The level
of mastery of this skill of melting iron shows how advanced this civilization really was. Iron made
tools for everyday life such

43. Understanding Police Use of Force, Interrogations, Deceit...
Law enforcement officers are given much power and authority over one s civil liberties. Not only do
they have a duty but also a responsibility to enforce laws and ordinances in their jurisdiction, maintain
order and protect its people. In some cases, the only way to accomplish this is through legitimized use
of force. Use of force can best be described as the amount of effort required by a law enforcement
officer to induce compliance of an unwilling subject (nij.gov, 2012). With that said, law enforcement
officers have been given the right to apply only enough force necessary to control a situation, while
defending others, preventing escape, during self defense and while a subject is resisting arrest
(Pollock, pp. 234). It is not until that force becomes excessive that it becomes say an issue. The use of
force is without a doubt an important aspect in policing. The decision to utilize any type of force
comes from a multitude of recourses; department policies, training, situational variables and ethical
systems. There are three major categories in which an officers use of force is categorized under;
justifiable, excessive and deadly; with a thin line between justifiable and excessive. Cases where
excessive force has been used, has lead to injuries, deaths, civil damages, officers convicted and
sentenced to jail and police chiefs and elected officials being removed from office (Fyfe, 1988). It is
an officer`s discretion in determining when the use of force is justifiable.

44. Steganography Vs. Digital Images
Steganography has been around since 1980 s. Various tools and software s are available for
Steganography as well as Steganalysis. The most common form of steganography is on digital images.
For digital images there exist many steganographic techniques and furthermore there exist a lot of
approaches to detect steganography in digital images. In this paper we will be looking at many tools
comprising from various digital domains but we fund that almost all of the tools had support for image
files. With the increasing number of new steganographic algorithms and methods for detecting
steganography, the issue of comparing security of steganographic schemes in a fair manner is of the
most importance. A fair benchmark for steganography should only ... Show more content on

1. Image steganography
Image steganography has gotten more popular press in recent years than other kinds of steganography,
possibly because of the massive use of electronic image information available with the advent of
digital cameras and high speed Internet distribution. Image steganography often involves hiding
information in the naturally occurring noise within the image and provides a good artwork for such
techniques. Most kinds of information contain some kind of noise. Noise can be described as
unwanted distortion of information within the signal. Within an audio signal, the concept of noise is
obvious. For images, however, noise generally refers to the imperfections inherent in the process of
rendering an analog picture as a digital image. For example, the values of colors in the palette for a
digital image will not only be the exact colors in the real image and the distribution of these colors
will be also be imperfect. The greater the number of bits used to

45. Psychopathology Diagnostic Classification Systems ( Dsm )...
This paper agrees with the statement psychopathology diagnostic classification systems (such as the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) or the International Classification of
Diseases (ICD)) are of little use to health professionals and patients because behaviours are often
misidentified and medicalised . To support this argument, this paper will discuss the most important
four main points that contribute to the subjective judgement of DSM and the limitations in validity,
reliability and utility of DSM: subjectivity of DSM, medicalisation of psychiatric disorders, influence
of pharmaceutical industry and cultural bias. A concern of the DSM is that all diagnostic criteria in
DSM are based on symptoms that are largely subjective and descriptive as DSM does not provide lists
of signs, as criteria for diagnosis (Johnstone, 2008). Such subjectivity of DSM poses a challenge even
for experienced clinicians who use the DSM and ICD criteria and also cause diagnostic unreliability. It
is argued by Johnstone (2008) that psychiatric symptoms without signs cannot be evidence of a
particular condition. The How Mad Are You? video by Liddell Jay (2008) supports the claim that the
subjectivity of DSM criteria creates low reliability and validity for a majority of the patients. In this
video, there were ten volunteers who participated in this study, of which five had a history of
psychiatric disorders and five with no history of psychiatric disorders. A

Muhammad Ali was born on January 17, 1942 In Louisville. One day Ali s bike had been stolen.
Someone had suggested that he should report it to a nearby police. Ali reported it to a traffic cop
named, Joe Martin. Joe ran a boxing gym in the basement of the convention hall. He took Ali to the
basement. Right when Ali got there he was in awe of all that the boxers were doing. The sights and
sounds and smell of the boxing gym excited him so much that he almost forgot about his bike. Right
then at that moment was when Muhammad Ali discovered boxing.

Fortunately, some of the local Louisville aristocracy had noticed Ali s success and taken an interest in
him (Conklin 26 27). One of these people were, Billy Reynolds, who would inherit the Reynolds
aluminum foil future. He became a supporter of sorts to the ambitious young boxer. After High
School, Reynolds saw Ali s talents and was interested. He offered him to let him train with him for no
money and to give him a job so he would earn money as well.
In 1967, after twenty years since Jackie Robinson and Joe Louis. Ali had set the standard for behavior
for the JRstar black athlete (Conklin 14). Ali also got married to Sonji Roi, a beautiful cocktail
waitress and model. She was a year older than Ali and had an eight year old son from a previous
marriage. The marriage only lasted less than a year because, Roi refused to listen to the Muslim strict
dress and dining codes. In 1970, when Ali got his boxing license back, a outspoken segregationist tried
to block it (Conklin 74). That day he declared a statewide day of mourning.
Muhammad Ali is still here today. Unfortunately, in 1984 Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson s
syndrome (Conklin 91). It is a neurological condition similar to Parkinson s disease but without the
disease s degenerative pattern. After that, Ali rarely talked about boxing. His days as a boxer were
behind him. But the sport in general will always be with him

48. African Arts Midterm
Midterm essay Lingyi Liu
After studying Arts of Africa for two weeks, I have learnt a lot of African arts. It is interesting that
most of them are used at funerals to honor the death of ancestors. People use sculptures, masks,
illustration and some other tools to memorize the dead and even people from different culture have
their unique ways to honor it. Death rituals in Africa are come from the cultural beliefs, they believe
that death and life are continuous. The dead people still alive in a spirit way. Rituals in Africa ensures
the ancestor will not be disturbed and his descendant will be protected. If they fail to do this, the ghost
will remain in the world and cause some problems. The descendant will lose the asylum from their
ancestor. So, it s really important for the African to honor the dead. According to the images in the
lecture, I found the most common purpose of these arts are wearing in performance and placing in the
shrine. The reason why people used these sculptures and masks is to represent a spirit. Here are three

a naturalistic sculpture and the use of it is to place on a shrine. It shows a man of honor. This figure
reminds me of the terracotta in the tomb of the Qin Shihunag in china. It also has the figure of
cavalryman. The material of them are different, the sculpture in Africa was made from wood, while
the one in China was made from clay. What s more, the Horse and rider figure shows the honor of
man. It pays attention on the soldier himself. For the terracotta in the tomb, the function of them are
protecting the king. There are many soldiers and showed the power of army. Although they have the
