Disk Jockey Research Paper
When discussing the career of being a disk jockey, it is important to include the history of the
profession. The world s first radio disc jockey was Ray Newby, of Stockton, California. In 1909, at 16
years of age, he began regularly playing records on a small transmitter while a student at Herrold
College of Engineering and Wireless, located in San Jose, California, under the authority of radio
pioneer Charles Doc Herrold. ( History of the Disk Jockey ). By 1910, regular radio broadcasting had
started to use live as well as prerecorded sound. In the early radio age, content typically included
comedy, music, and sports reporting. The on air announcers and programmers would later be known
as disc jockeys. ( Disk Jockey in 20th century ). In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also can bring a lot of cons and complications. Some of the pros of becoming a DJ are the minimal
education requirements, training that is often on the job, and the possibility of becoming a public
figure. All of these are nice they can be very hard to balance with the cons. Some cons such as the low
median salary (around 30,000 a year). Or the fact that radio stations stay open 24 hours so there is no
guaranteed work time for any employee. One other big con is the heavy competition for available
jobs. Everyone wants to become a radio broadcaster due to the lack of education one needs. With the
growth of available jobs has little to no change, it is difficult to find open positions. (Pros and Cons of
Radio Broadcasting). It is a true statement that the job outlook has stayed at 0% from 2013 to 2014,
one can tell that finding an open position can be close to impossible. You should be able to find a
career in this if you meet the very specific standards of the radio station you are applying at. (The
difficulties of a DJ). The best way to lock down a career is to find a place to stay and go into the
industry with an open mind and be ready to learn a lot from your

homeschooled at Tanks School when he was young. He then went to the school of Leipzig

Edvard s mom was Gesine Hagerup and his dad was Alexander Grieg. He had three brothers named
John, Maren, and Ingeborg Benedicte. He also had one sister named Elisabeth. Later in his life he
married his cousin Nina Hagerup. His wife then had a daughter named Alexandra Grieg. Edvard s

over 40,000 people came to his funeral in honor of him.
In Edvard s teens he almost died of a life threatening lung disease. The disease caused him to have one

Comparing Elizabeth Barrett Browning And Petrarchan Sonnet
Female poets in the nineteenth century were small in number and Elizabeth created a path for herself
and remained ambitious. Present day Feminists consider Elizabeth as an influential and independent
voice of social issues, saying she anticipated movements to come. Not only were ladies discouraged
from learning other languages and from reading controversial books at the time, they were also denied
gaining a university education. Amid all female poets of the world in the nineteenth century, none
were held in critical esteem or were as widely respected for the individuality and bravery of their
views as Elizabeth Barrett Browning was.
While she was considered among her peers to be a better poet than her husband, Elizabeth was later
overshadowed by his success, sometimes even being only referred to as Elizabeth Browning and
losing her maiden name. Robert Browning had no intent of upstaging his wife but at the time it was a
given that he would get more attention for his poetry. Even today if you are searching for a poem by
Elizabeth Browning you are presented with more information about her husband s poetry. The styles
of Elizabeth and Robert were extremely similar but he didn t concentrate on sonnets as much as she
did. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strict and formal guidelines provided a sense of flexibility to some authors, like Elizabeth, who
kept a steady theme. She combined Petrarchan and Shakespearean sonnet types in a way that suited
her self expression. Critics consider Sonnets from the Portuguese to be Elizabeth s best piece of work,
comparing her imagery to that of Shakespeare s. Dorothy Mermin proposes that Elizabeth s use of
medieval settings and ballad were part of her search for a world which would give scope for passion
and action in her book Victorian Literature: 1830 1900 , however Mermin usually judges female poets
harsher than male poets in terms of the Victorian medievalism poetry

The Change Process Essay
At the beginning of the change process, a crucial aspect for Ghosn was the importance and the need
for an open communication in both directions: from upper management to lower management and
vice versa. Before he took over the position of the COO at Nissan, he traveled to Japan to gather
information from the lower level management up to the top level management.
Clampitt, DeKoch, and Cushman outlined different communication strategies, which can be found in
Ghosn s communication style. They authors defined the communication strategies based on
communication effectiveness and amount of informational transmitted and emphasized that leaders
can use the strategies simultaneously (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 305). In the case of Nissan, Ghosn
followed the device of transparency to regain credibility, and thus he transmitted an enormous amount
of information. Furthermore, the communication effectiveness was middle to high since Ghosn
provided detailed information to the people involved in the change. He wanted to avoid confusions,
and thus he shared a maximum of information (Hughes et al., 2003, p. 6). Ghosn also engaged people
being a part of the change discussion, as an example: He defined the CFTs, which had the challenge to
identify the change actions and obstacles. Thus, Ghosn s communication strategy (at least based on the
case study) was a mix of tell and sell and underscore and explore (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 306).
Plamer et al. (2009) introduced various questions,

The Rise of Christianity and Christian Art Essay
In 313 AD the Emperor Constantine formally recognized the Christian religion. Christianity spread
throughout the Roman Empire, this event affected the way people thought and lived their lives. Had a
great impact on how rulers viewed their power and used their powers. Such influence was portrayed in
Christian art as we know today.
Although Christianity was initially practiced within Semitic populations of the Roman Empire, by the
4th century A.D the Christian religion had a huge impact to the Greeks and also the early Byzantine
Empire. But by this time Christian communities had been established in all the important cities in the
Roman Empire. In 313 the next emperor Constantine legalized Christianity throughout the empire. He

With such support from the state and the Emperor, the church was given a massive financial support,
which was invested in the building of the Basilicas. They were used to perform rituals such as
worship, baptism, prayers, scripture reading, preaching and recognition of the dead and the after life.
The liturgy of the early churches was very plain. They were build on a rectangular classical floor plan.
The Basilica floor plan was simple; consisting of a narthex (the outside building short end), apse,
transept, and aisle such formation gives the idea of building resembling to the cross. The early
Christians were inspiration to represent such building to the cross. Once more this is part of the
spiritual journey of Christianity. The other model was the central plan which would consist of a dome
in the middle of the church. Were all the activities would take place. Like the worship and the
baptismal ritual. This center plan was more common in the Eastern Orthodox churches. This shows
the heritage of Roman Christian art from the early ancestors such as the Greeks and the Middle East. A
great example is the San Vitale in Ravenna which was an important Byzantine outpost in Italy. San
Vitale was constructed under the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian in 547. This church has a

Abraham To Sacrifice
What was God doing when He told Abraham to go sacrifice Isaac? Is that not contradicting what God
s whole message to the world is; that He is loving and wants the best for mankind? Remember what
Abraham s background was. He was from Ur, a pagan city. Child sacrifice was a common way to
appease your God. Three times it was mentioned that Abraham was a friend of God. He was a man of
great faith, yet also a man of great failure. Great faith as he left Ur, following God s command. Great
failure when he did not trust God and had a child by Hagar, causing the Muslim people. It was from
this man that God would be founding his chosen people, as vast as the stars in the sky. When God
came to Abraham and commanded him to go up to a mountain

Lion King Theme
Watching the lion king the next time around I can defiantly look at it with more understanding of the
story behind the lion king. The lion king is an apparent adaptation of Shakespeare s hamlet, by the
theme of revenge and justice. In hamlet, Claudius s murder of King Hamlet initiates Hamlet s quest
for revenge, and Claudius s death is the end of that quest. In the lion king mufsa, the king of the jungle
is murdered by his own brother scar. Young simba, mufasas son and the prince of the jungle is now
left with the gilt and responsibility to avenge his father in a battle with scar, to save pride rock and
reclaim his throne. By the theme of family and the circle of life the lion king shows the importance of

The setting of this story unlike in hamlet takes place in the jungle. There are multiple different types
of species of animals, like all of the character which are animals. From meerkat to lions you name it
they were in this story. The vines and the greener also gave the jungle theme away, but most of all in
the first scene you see all the animals gather to see the new prince of the jungle and they bow at the
sight of his presence. The jungle is where all the major events take place, where he meets timon and
pumbaa and, where he goes to find himself. Pride rock is in the jungle but this is where the lions live.
The notorious shadow land is where simaba father is killed, which is also in the jungle. The setting of

The first movement began in the late 1860 s during the post Civil War Reconstruction Era. Founded
by former Confederate veterans from Tennessee, this social club quickly became an antiblack,

William T. Sherman SHERMAN, William Tecumseh (1820 91). Ranked second only to General
Ulysses S. Grant as the greatest Northern commander in the American Civil War, Gen. William
Tecumseh Sherman was a master of modern warfare. Like Grant, Sherman was born in Ohio when it

region a few years earlier. Sherman was born on Feb. 8, 1820, in Lancaster, Ohio. His father died

Serious mistakes had been made at the battle of Shiloh, and the commander, Grant, had to take a lot of
criticism. Grant wanted to withdraw from the army, but Sherman persuaded him to stay. In the
Vicksburg campaign Sherman gave valuable aid to Grant. At its successful conclusion he generously
gave all the credit to his superior officer. When Grant, as a result of this campaign, was made
commander of the armies of the United States, Sherman was appointed to fill Grant s position as
commander in the West. It was in this position that he carried on the campaign on which his fame
rests. On May 6, 1864, he left Chattanooga, Tenn., for Atlanta, Ga. It took him four months to cover
the 135 miles (215 kilometers) between the two places, for in this campaign he met a person worthy of
his steel in Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, the Confederate commander. Atlanta was reached on September
2. After clearing the city of its civil population and resting his men, Sherman started on his famous
march of 400 miles (645 kilometers) quot;from Atlanta to the sea. quot; For 32 days no news of him
reached the North. He had cut himself off from his base of supplies, and his men lived on what they

Injustices occur everyday in the world. We tend to witness injustices on a daily basis, some of them
are unnoticeable, but the ones that we do notice and we can t do anything about, makes us feel
impotent. That is what this tragic and unjust event made me feel, and in Guerrero, Mexico, that is how
the families of this 43 kidnapped students still feel. On september 2014, 43 male students went
missing in Iguala, Guerrero, Mexico. The 43 students were undergraduates at Escuela Normal Rural

Nos faltan 43 (we are still missing 43), They took them alive, we want them back alive were some of
the phrases that Mexico used in their strikes to unify as a nation against the corrupt government. The
poem Buscábamos a 43 (We were looking for 43) by Jenaro Villamil, expresses the perspective of the
Mexican people. This poem presents the tragedy with a melancholic tone. This has not been the first
time that violent injustices occurred in Mexico, but this poem shows how this event led the mexican
people to realize in the violence and horror they live. Jenaro Villamil starts off the poem with the line
¿Cuánto horror seremos capaces de conocer? (1), which translates to, how much horror will we be
capable of knowing?, this expresses how much horror they have already experienced. This source
doesn t include any specific facts or dates about the tragedy, because it is a poem, but it does introduce
how the students are seen by Mexico, as young humble victims. The lines that I was more impacted by
that Jenaro Villamil says are: Porque aún con ellos vivos, sanos, salvos o heridos / No podemos callar
A los olvidados que sembramos, which means, because even with them alive, safe and sound, or
wounded, we cannot remain silent for the forgotten that we sowed. This segments of the poem
represent the reason why the mexican people protested, and keep protesting up to now, because even
though there are no signs of their bodies, they represent a part of the forgotten, who they are willing to

The Theory Of The Gate Control Theory
Theory/Author Name and Background The Mid Range Theory that is appropriate to my practice
setting is the gate control theory. Ronald Melzack was a Canadian researcher and Patrick David Wall,
a British neuroscientist presented this theory in 1965. Due to financial instability, Melzack was the
only sibling to attend college. Melzack s research advisor was conducting a study on dogs that have
not been socially normal. Melzack gained interest in how to dogs responded to pain when they put
their nose in a flame repeatedly. Today, Melzack is a psychologist and a researcher. He is also a
professor at a university. After earning his doctorate, he began working with patients who suffered
with phantom pain. Wall studied medicine at a university, where he gained interest in studying pain.
He met Melzack at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and together, with the same interest
wrote a paper on the gate control theory of pain (Wall, 1965, p. 472).
Theory Description
Melzack and Wall (1965) introduced the gate control theory. The gate control theory explains how
pain is transferred and interfered. If the same physical stimulus is applied to two different people
causing the same physical damage, due to each individual s emotional being or support, mood or
previous experiences with pain. This theory is significant because prior to its introduction, people
would have thought the perception of pain depends on the amount of painful stimuli and the degree of
damage caused to the

Men and Eating Disorders

physicians and therapists alike when they think of someone suffering from an eating disorder. What
about overly health conscience, extreme muscle mass, and obsessively exercising? New disorders like
Muscle Dysmorphia are being discovered in males that have not been brought to the forefront of news
today. The male population is severely under calculated and usually passed over when people cover

Fear In The Alchemist
H. P. Lovecraft has once quoted in his book of Supernatural Horror in Literature that, the oldest and

The fear of the unknown is the greatest fear among all fears; meanwhile, the way to achieve our
dreams, or put it in different words, our Personal Legend, lies within the fear of the unknown. The
spiritual adventurous, fantasy novel The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho, brings out the journey of

Judy Attfield Gender
I have chosen to discuss Judy Attfield s text, FORM/female FOLLOWS FUNCTION/male: Feminist
Critiques of Design because she talks to her audience about her present and historical experience of
what it is like to be a female designer in what people consider to be a more masculine line of work.
Attfield allows her feminism to flourish in a distinctive style of writing which not only engages the
reader but also the problematic practice of being a female designer.
Attfield discusses the current situation of discrimination and inequality in the design business that she
has faced by telling the reader that she is providing the normally silent with the power of speech. The

Marie Sophie Germain was born in Rue Saint Denis, Paris, France, on April 1, 1776, in a wealthy

Theorem, that has been a struggle for mathematicians for the past 200 years. That if xn + yn = zn, then
neither x, y, nor z can be a natural number if n is greater than 2, stated from Fermat s Last Theorem

Successful from her work, she published her deeds in a supplement to her acquaintance Adrien Marie

Cognitive Therapy
In clinical settings, cognitive therapy has been utilized effectively to remedy depression.
Understandably so, as it relates to automatic thoughts, much consideration has been given to its effects
resulting in various studies focusing on cognitive approaches that would improve symptoms.
Moreover, the evaluation of multiple variables could impact the projected eventual outcome behaviors
of patients if assessments lack generalization. Recent studies have found that though there is solid
evidence of Automatic Thought Questionnaire factorial validity in the western literature, support from
non western exploration remains insufficient (Oei, 2008). In non western culture, religion and cultural

Statistical analysis confirmed the concurrent validity of the ATQ Malay. Exploratory analysis revealed
a 2 factor solution accounting for 51% total variance and subsequent confirmatory analysis confirmed

predispose individuals to depression in different socio cultural context, the final depressive state, in
terms of self related automatic negative thoughts, may have generality across cultures (Oei, 2008).
Furthermore, effective interventions depend on associated factors that influence treatment outcome.
Cognitive therapy has been useful in intervention for depression in various clinical settings,

responsiveness early in therapy is a predictor of the eventual outcome in contrast to hopelessness

psychological assessments were conducted on 122 outpatients who were diagnosed with unipolar
depression. All participants received recorded cognitive therapy by diagnosticians and those tapes

A Young American s Discovery of the Silent Majority Essay...
A Young American s Discovery of the Silent Majority
History panders to the glorious and dramatic while often there is a story untold. Perhaps it is less
exciting, but no less crucial in understanding history as a whole. Thus is the story of the silent
majority. On November 3rd 1969, one year after his victory in the United States Presidential race,
President Nixon issued an address to the American public in which he coined the term silent majority.
President Nixon s address began by describing the situation he inherited when taking office. Nixon
described the situation as such: The war had been going on for four years. One thousand Americans
had been killed in action. The training program for the South Vietnamese was ... Show more content

For almost 200 years, the policy of this nation has been made under our Constitution by those leaders
in the Congress and the White House elected by all of the people. If a vocal minority, however fervent
its cause, prevails over reason and the will of the majority, this nation has no future as a free society
(Episode).
President Nixon proceeded to address the concerns of the vocal minority and then to address what he
termed the silent majority. From reading the address in its entirety one gets an overall tone of an
issuance of comfort, rather than just an aim to inform. President Nixon s comforting speeches did little
to silence the vocal minority however as they continued to voice concerns just after his second
inauguration in 1972. A student writing for the Albany Student Press issued this concern in January of
1972; In 1968, the Republican candidate Richard Nixon promised to end the war in Southeast Asia; in
1972, the President remains adamant against setting any date for total withdrawal of American
forces...(Oringher). The author continued on a rant exclaiming the failed promises of the Nixon
administration and claiming the President had done nothing to ameliorate unemployment and nothing
to help women, blacks, or native Americans.

outside forces that might affect unemployment and makes no attempt to offer exactly

What Are The Parasites Of Atlas Shrugged
The Parasites of Atlas Shrugged
In this world, and in the world of Ayn Rand s imagination, there are two kinds of people: those who
live to create, and those who wish to live as parasites feeding off the benefits of those creations. In
Atlas Shrugged, she explores what might happen when the creators of the world stop creating; the
parasites are left to try to live on their own. The novels that Miss Rand writes always reflect this sort
of thing. She writes of the battle between the two types of people as some write of the battles between
good and evil. In reality, each side of the battle can be equated in such terms. These writings provide a

only enemies of the true genius. The looters are those who sit back, allowing others to do the work for

Racial Inequality And Gender Inequality
In today s world discrimination is a racial inequality when it come to different races in the United
states. Discrimination has been around for years and have created a social inequality , economic crises
and have lowered individuals into a group known as the racial minorities .Racial minorities can be
classified as older people , women , immigrants and young men and women. Women from the early
1600 s to today s women have been discriminated against for years. Women have never had the same
respect as men so, they had to earn respect by stepping up for their rights. Women have made it clear
in modern society, that we have the ability to perform equal skills and become success in virtually
every endeavor engaged in by men including, employment, athletes, academics and politics.Yet we
have discrimination on the basis of racial inequality which has a long history in United States
.Inequalities in the Unites States have singled out elderly people by not helping the older people be
apart of today s society meaning, we do not hire older people after a certain age because we think they
are not capable of working. We look at elderly as people to be retired, stay home, and very sickly.
Roscigno studies show some older workers are terminated just before their pensions are set to kick in
or increase. This type of firing profoundly affects older workers job security, long term financial well
being and access to health care. Social inequalities have created this particular

Imprisonment and Social Control Essay
Imprisonment is one of the primary ways in which social control may be achieved; the Sage
Dictionary of Criminology defines social control as a concept used to describe all the ways in which
conformity may be achieved. Throughout time imprisonment and its ideas around social control have
varied. Imprisonment has not always been used for punishment, nor has it always thought about the
prisoners themselves. However when looking at imprisonment it is important to consider the new
penology. Therefore, it needs to be clear what the new penology is. The new penology is said, not to
be about punishing individuals or about rehabilitating them, but about identifying and managing
unruly groups in society. It is concerned with the managerial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Throughout the years, the use of imprisonment has varied, along with its influences of society. It is
thought that although prisons have been around since the thirteenth century, prisons as we know them
now to be have only been around for the last three centuries. The first uses of prisons were not seen as
a form of punishment instead they were used as a way of making people do something. People would
be held in prison until they paid their debts, or awaiting trial and then leading up to their sentence.
McGowen (1995) suggests that from the early 1700s bridewells a house of correction have existed,
however at that time being used merely for vagrants and drunks. At the end of the sixteenth century
there was a shift in punishment to imprisonment, along with this came a new, more humane idea of
reform. Criminals would spend their days of prison carrying out hard labour. However after the
American Revolution, imprisonment took a step back and there was another change. There was mass
overcrowding within the prison service and although the death penalty was still being used it was a
symbol of the power of the state. Therefore, an everyday way of dealing with offenders would be
transportation to the colonies, being either Australia or America.
It was with the work of Beccaria and Bentham that saw a change in imprisonment. Jeremy Bentham
(1748 1832) insisted crime prevention was the only way

Persuasive Essay On Winning The Lottery
Is winning a fortune really worth the possibility of losing everything? There are many different forms
of the lottery with prizes ranging from a couple of dollars to millions of dollars. Most people though
are more interested in the big prize worth millions, believing that if they were to win they would be set
for life. While winning the lottery can improve someone s life it can just as equally ruin their life.
After winning the lottery they need to be smart with their money. Within the first five years of winning
the lottery around 70% of the winners will file for bankruptcy, according to the National Endowment
for Financial Education. When people strike it rich they believe that they have all the money in the
world and begin to spend or give away money without a second thought They feel the need to have the
newest and best of everything to match their newfound social class. Kevin Myeroff, a certified
financial planner and CEO of NCA Financial in Mayfield Heights, says that winners spend too much
on depreciating assets such as cars, vacations and gifts. When winners begin to gain popularity it
attracts the attention of people who want to leech off the benefits of the winner. Once they begin to
give away money to family and friends it is hard for them to stop. Sandra Hayes, one of the twelve
winners of the Missouri lottery in 2006 worth a total of $224 million began to feel the emotional toll
of winning the lottery. After splitting the $224 million among a dozen of her

Hormogonia Research Paper
Cyanobacteria are an ancient class of aquatic and photosynthetic bacteria. There are various types of
Cyanobacteria such as Nostoc punctiforme, a filamentous cyanobacteria. N. punctiforme has different
cell types such as vegetative cells, akinetes, heterocysts and hormogonia. Vegetative cells are where
photosynthesis occurs. In N. punctiforme, vegetative cells have a third developmental alternative in
which they differentiate into akinetes (dormant spore like cells). Akinetes are evolutionary precursors
of heterocysts (Meeks and Elhai 2002). Heterocysts supply a microaerobic environment to produce
essential proteins for nitrogen fixation. Hormogonia are short filaments that come from parental
filaments and are important for short distance spread of filamentous cyanobacteria such as Nostoc
punctiforme.

The first is the type IV pili theory and the second is the junctional pore theory. Type IV pili are
filaments on bacteria that are involved in motility and adhesion (Craig and Li, 2008). According to
some recent studies there is evidence that hormogonia have pilus like structures. In these studies they
inactivated the pilT like (pilus retraction gene) and pilD like (prepilin peptidase) components, which
changed the surface piliation levels and lowered the symbiotic competency (Duggan et al, 2007).
Junctional pores are structures that form around filaments on both sides of each cross wall or septum.
These pores make channels that radiate out and it was found that they may be involved in gliding
movements. The pores are sites where mucilage is secreted and thus leads to the gliding motility of
Nostoc punctiforme (Hoiczyk and Baumeister, 1998). Neither of these theories have enough evidence
to outcompete the other, but some researchers believe that the actual motility mechanism is a hybrid of

The majority of children at CIPCC are able to fully participate in the program without requiring

create an atmosphere where children are able to participate, regardless of their ability. Certain children
require additional support and accommodations, nevertheless, I can still see enjoyment and benefits

While we are playing games that have the teachers as one role and the students as another, we often
invite children to participate by allowing them to hold a teacher s hand and take on the teacher s role.
This can work, but sometimes is difficult and causes other problem. To address this, we could modify
our approach to supplying support to these children. Instead of letting them take on the role of the
teacher, we could allow the individuals in need of support to show a teacher how to take on the role of
the student. The teacher could then, support the child and the child could still participate with their
peers and continue the program. The children at CIPCC really like to interact and communicate with
the teachers and the UVM students from the Fit Kids program. I think that the most influential ways to
modify the games in this program will be to find unique alterations to address the individual needs of
the children who could likely benefit from Kiddie CATs the most. I will continue to be thinking of
modifications to allow this program to be more accessible and enjoyable to all children

Criminalogical Theories Applied to Monster The Autobiography of an LA Gang Member In Monster:
The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member, Kody Scott tells the story of the struggle between two
significantly large gangs. At the age of eleven he was initiated into the Crips, and committed his first
murder. It was this day that began what would become a career for Kody: banging (Scott, 1993). Kody
worked hard to secure a reputation for his name. He held loyal to his homeboys and began to build up
the Crips. His potential for being in a leadership position became more and more evident as time went

The Differential Association Theory states that all behavior, pro social and anti social is learned, and
that we choose the behaviors that are the most rewarding to us (Class Notes). The Night of Kody s
initiation he had taken part in shooting down a group of 15 Bloods. After it all was over and he was
laying awake in bed, he felt guilty and ashamed of [himself] (Scott, 1993: 13). He knew what he had
done was wrong, but when the chance came again for him to choose between right, and what the set
wanted him to do, he chose to follow his fellow Crips. Kody chose the praise and approval of his
friends over the law, and what he knew in his heart was right (Scott, 1993). The Social Learning
Theory is similar to the Differential Association Theory in the respect that they both depend on the
approval of others. It says that ...crime is something learned by normal people as they adapt to other
people and the conditions of their environment (Bohm, 2001: 82). People learn by reinforcement
weather it is positive or negative. Growing up Kody began to feel more and more that his mom no

Hamlet s Soliloquy Essay
When analyzing Shakespeare s Hamlet through the deconstructionist lens various elements of the play
come into sharper focus. Hamlet s beliefs about himself and his crisis over indecision are expounded
upon by the binary oppositions created in his soliloquies. Hamlet s first soliloquy comes in act one
scene two, as Hamlet reflects on the current state of events. The chief focus of this soliloquy is
essentially the rottenness of the king, queen and the world in general. In this passage the reader is
introduced to Hamlet pseudo obsession with death and suicide, which later will become a chief point
of indecision. In this particular speech, however, Hamlet is fairly confident. He wishes that his too too

Hamlet also manages to both degrade himself and his uncle in another comparison, saying his uncle
was no more like my father / Than I to Hercules (1.2.152 3). Though such strong comparisons to
romanticized and mythical figures could are partially simple hyperbole, they also underscore some of
the insecurity in Hamlet s character. The value in recognizing this comes as Hamlet descends into his
madness, whether real or imaginary, where the reader can see that, even before Hamlet deliberately
decides to appear to be mad he has certain issues and insecurities with his own feelings. Even more
significantly, this passage begins to elaborate on Hamlet s relationship with his mother. Gertrude
represents an interesting dilemma for the deconstructionist critic, as she does not create or involve
herself in many conflicts or oppositions. She manages to significantly affect the plot and the subtext of
the play while seeming almost insignificant as a character at first glance through the deconstructionist
lens. She does not overtly affect events, and often plays the victim of circumstance. This very
insignificance creates an issue for Hamlet, who is clearly quite disgusted with her behavior. He
vehemently disapproves of the speed of her marriage to Claudius, saying that a beast, that wants
discourse of reason, / Would have mourned longer (1.2.150 1), but can find no other strong criticism
of her other than how fast she remarried. This strikes at the

Military Historians And Theorists Postulate That Napoleon...
Many military historians and theorists postulate that Napoleon invented modern warfare. This belief is
not true. Although there are aspects of how Napoleon fought that are used by many modern armies
today, and his tactics and philosophy of fighting should continue to be studied, Napoleonic warfare is
not fundamentally similar to modern warfare. Napoleon implemented ideas that modern armies use
today; however the Revolutions in Military Affairs (RMAs) of the Franco Prussian Wars and
American Civil War, and the military revolutions of World War I, and the Nuclear Age dictate to a
greater degree how modern warfare is practiced. Military officers around the world still study
Napoleon, but that does not mean that he and his style of warfare invented modern warfare. Napoleon
is still relevant today because those that studied him such as Clausewitz and Jomni were able to distil
Napoleon s Operational Art which is very relevant to military commanders and strategists today.
Napoleon also introduced to Europe and the world how to build, maneuver and effectively use large
armies, corps and echelons higher, and how to motivate soldiers. (take from The Rise of Napoleon).
However, Napoleon and his adversaries still fought battles, not in combat, which is continues conflict
that stretches for weeks and months. No new innovations came from Napoleonic warfare. He and his
rivals still used similar weapon systems and tactics. Napoleon s genius and success lay in his ability to

For centuries, scientists and energy experts from all over the world have been making efforts to look

generated power and hydroelectric power. This essay aims at giving some basic knowledge on
hydroelectric power technology with focuses on its impacts on environment. Firstly, a brief
introduction of hydroelectricity will be given, followed by some discussions regarding its effects on
environment, then a conclusion will be drawn based on the discussions and some recommendations
for the future at the end.

Moreover, it helped reduce carbon dioxide by 190 million tonnes, sulfur dioxide by 2.29 million
tonnes, and nitrogen oxides by 980,000 tonnes. (Ramaraochetlapalli 2013). Another advantage of a
hydroelectricity water storage dam is that it be used as a source of drinking water and for recreational
purposes such as boating and fishing. Reservoirs created by hydroelectric schemes often provide
facilities for water sports and become tourist attractions themselves. In some countries, aquaculture in
reservoirs is common. Multi use dams installed for irrigation support agriculture with a relatively
constant water supply. Large hydro dams can control floods, which would otherwise affect people
living downstream of the project
Despite all the advantages of implementing hydroelectric technology, building hydroelectricity dams
can be a fetal threat to local wildlife animals. First of all, reservoir water is usually more stagnant than
normal river waters; as a result, reservoir will contain higher amounts of nutrients and sediment in
which an excess of algae and other aquatic weed can be cultivated. Subsequently, the lives of river
animals and plants would be in danger as they can be crowed out by the excessive amount of algae
(Cleaning Energy 2013). Therefore, they must be controlled through manual

The Russian Revolution Of 1917
The Russian Revolution of 1917 brought with it the fall of 300 years of Romanov rule and marked the
beginning of the transition of Tsarism to Communism, from which Lenin established the Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics, succeeded by Stalin. The Revolution is worthy of investigation as it is
arguably the most significant event of the 20th century, considering that it helped shape many other
subsequent events such as the Second World War and the Cold War. The Bolsheviks triumph can be
accounted to two reasons: the first being the weaknesses of autocracy leading to the fall of Tsarism;
the second the relative strengths of the Bolsheviks compared to the downfalls of the Provisional
Government, leading to the Bolshevik takeover. There were many reasons for the fall of Tsarism, such
as the backwardness of Russian society, the failure of the Tsar personally, and the autocratic system of
government which caused grievances amongst the people. The Russian public desired political
change, whether towards a more democratic society like 20th century Britain, or towards a more
socialist revolution in which power was returned to the people. When assessing the reasons as to why
Tsarism collapsed, it is crucial to look at the setting of early 19th century Russia, which inevitably led
to the Tsar s weaknesses in his control of the government.
Russia at this time was a backwards and provincial society: encompassing a vast expanse of territory,
the towns were underdeveloped and the

The San Antonio Art Museum
The exhibition that I viewed at the San Antonio Art Museum was called 28 Chinese . This exhibit was
based on the artwork of 28 contemporary Chinese artists. Throughout the exhibit, it was discussing the
fall of communism, poverty, the essence of time, resistance, rebellion and the conservation of history.
Some of the artwork I saw were created by Zhu Jinshi, Qiu Zhijie, Zhang Huan, and Shang Yixin, just
to name a few. The exhibit was on two floors of the museum. When I first entered the exhibit, it led
me to a big white room with art being displayed on all walls. The first room was based on the Coca
Cola project in which there was a tall case of Coca Cola bottles being displayed right when you walk
in. To the right was a clear box that held burnt down Coca Cola bottles. These items being displayed
made me want to read about the project since it was a familiar company that most people know. Some
of the other rooms were structured differently. Some had sculptures, audio visuals, interactive pieces
and others had modified furniture but every piece of art had a description next to it which told who the
artist was as well as the meaning of the art itself. The materials used for some of the art works
included wood, bamboo, and rice paper. The second floor to the exhibit is mostly abstract art work.

aspects through art. In order for each piece of artwork to convey their purpose,

the tyranny of the OR i.e., that things must be either this or that, but not both. Instead, truly great

The horizon is closely related to the symbol of hopes and dreams. The horizon represents better things
the possibility for change and improvement. The horizon is mentioned in the opening page of the
novel. Ships at a distance have every man s wish on board. For some they come in with the tide. For
others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the watcher turns his
eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time (1). The author compares the hopes
and dreams of man to a ship on a sea. The ships that come in with the tide are ended dreams and the
ships that stay sailing on the horizon are the ones that are still believed in. That is, until the dreamer
realizes their dreams and leave, being mocked by the time they had wasted. Janie s dream sails on the

Their father, Eduardo, gave us the rhythm with the frame drum. Corina doubled n the piccolo. The
music I was exposed to doing the performance was Debussy called Fascia lee played by the piano. I

The Feminist Movement Of The 18th Century Enlightenment...
In our modern, selfie centric, and Facebook likes driven culture, it is widely understood that the
formation and discovery of the self are crucial to one s potential happiness. It is often advised that one
must first focus on the well being, contentment, and happiness of one s self before working to provide
such things for another. However, this mentality is relatively new in human history. It was once
considered selfish to think of the self before the welfare of one s community since they were once
much more deeply and rigidly bound together. As one can imagine, the transition from a community
centric society to that of a self centric society was neither easy nor quick. It caused strife for many

  • 4. Comparing Elizabeth Barrett Browning And Petrarchan Sonnet Female poets in the nineteenth century were small in number and Elizabeth created a path for herself and remained ambitious. Present day Feminists consider Elizabeth as an influential and independent voice of social issues, saying she anticipated movements to come. Not only were ladies discouraged from learning other languages and from reading controversial books at the time, they were also denied gaining a university education. Amid all female poets of the world in the nineteenth century, none were held in critical esteem or were as widely respected for the individuality and bravery of their views as Elizabeth Barrett Browning was. While she was considered among her peers to be a better poet than her husband, Elizabeth was later overshadowed by his success, sometimes even being only referred to as Elizabeth Browning and losing her maiden name. Robert Browning had no intent of upstaging his wife but at the time it was a given that he would get more attention for his poetry. • 5. The Change Process Essay At the beginning of the change process, a crucial aspect for Ghosn was the importance and the need for an open communication in both directions: from upper management to lower management and vice versa. Before he took over the position of the COO at Nissan, he traveled to Japan to gather information from the lower level management up to the top level management. Clampitt, DeKoch, and Cushman outlined different communication strategies, which can be found in Ghosn s communication style. They authors defined the communication strategies based on communication effectiveness and amount of informational transmitted and emphasized that leaders can use the strategies simultaneously (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 305). In the case of Nissan, Ghosn followed the device of transparency to regain credibility, and thus he transmitted an enormous amount of information. Furthermore, the communication effectiveness was middle to high since Ghosn provided detailed information to the people involved in the change. He wanted to avoid confusions, and thus he shared a maximum of information (Hughes et al., 2003, p. 6). Ghosn also engaged people being a part of the change discussion, as an example: He defined the CFTs, which had the challenge to identify the change actions and obstacles. Thus, Ghosn s communication strategy (at least based on the case study) was a mix of tell and sell and underscore and explore (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 306). Plamer et al. Christianity spread throughout the Roman Empire, this event affected the way people thought and lived their lives. Had a great impact on how rulers viewed their power and used their powers. Although Christianity was initially practiced within Semitic populations of the Roman Empire, by the 4th century A.D the Christian religion had a huge impact to the Greeks and also the early Byzantine Empire. The first uses of prisons were not seen as a form of punishment instead they were used as a way of making people do something. People would be held in prison until they paid their debts, or awaiting trial and then leading up to their sentence. McGowen (1995) suggests that from the early 1700s bridewells a house of correction have existed, however at that time being used merely for vagrants and drunks. At the end of the sixteenth century there was a shift in punishment to imprisonment, along with this came a new, more humane idea of reform. Criminals would spend their days of prison carrying out hard labour. However after the American Revolution, imprisonment took a step back and there was another change. There was mass overcrowding within the prison service and although the death penalty was still being used it was a symbol of the power of the state. Therefore, an everyday way of dealing with offenders would be transportation to the colonies, being either Australia or America. It was with the work of Beccaria and Bentham that saw a change in imprisonment. Jeremy Bentham (1748 1832) insisted crime prevention was the only way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Persuasive Essay On Winning The Lottery Is winning a fortune really worth the possibility of losing everything? There are many different forms of the lottery with prizes ranging from a couple of dollars to millions of dollars. Most people though are more interested in the big prize worth millions, believing that if they were to win they would be set for life. While winning the lottery can improve someone s life it can just as equally ruin their life. After winning the lottery they need to be smart with their money. Within the first five years of winning the lottery around 70% of the winners will file for bankruptcy, according to the National Endowment for Financial Education. When people strike it rich they believe that they have all the money in the world and begin to spend or give away money without a second thought They feel the need to have the newest and best of everything to match their newfound social class. Kevin Myeroff, a certified financial planner and CEO of NCA Financial in Mayfield Heights, says that winners spend too much on depreciating assets such as cars, vacations and gifts. When winners begin to gain popularity it attracts the attention of people who want to leech off the benefits of the winner. Once they begin to give away money to family and friends it is hard for them to stop. • 25. Hormogonia Research Paper Cyanobacteria are an ancient class of aquatic and photosynthetic bacteria. There are various types of Cyanobacteria such as Nostoc punctiforme, a filamentous cyanobacteria. N. punctiforme has different cell types such as vegetative cells, akinetes, heterocysts and hormogonia. Vegetative cells are where photosynthesis occurs. In N. punctiforme, vegetative cells have a third developmental alternative in which they differentiate into akinetes (dormant spore like cells). Akinetes are evolutionary precursors of heterocysts (Meeks and Elhai 2002). Heterocysts supply a microaerobic environment to produce essential proteins for nitrogen fixation. Hormogonia are short filaments that come from parental filaments and are important for short distance spread of filamentous cyanobacteria such as Nostoc punctiforme. The first is the type IV pili theory and the second is the junctional pore theory. Type IV pili are filaments on bacteria that are involved in motility and adhesion (Craig and Li, 2008). According to some recent studies there is evidence that hormogonia have pilus like structures. In these studies they inactivated the pilT like (pilus retraction gene) and pilD like (prepilin peptidase) components, which changed the surface piliation levels and lowered the symbiotic competency (Duggan et al, 2007). Junctional pores are structures that form around filaments on both sides of each cross wall or septum. These pores make channels that radiate out and it was found that they may be involved in gliding movements. The pores are sites where mucilage is secreted and thus leads to the gliding motility of Nostoc punctiforme (Hoiczyk and Baumeister, 1998). Neither of these theories have enough evidence to outcompete the other, but some researchers believe that the actual motility mechanism is a hybrid of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Certain children require additional support and accommodations, nevertheless, I can still see enjoyment and benefits from their participation in the program. While we are playing games that have the teachers as one role and the students as another, we often invite children to participate by allowing them to hold a teacher s hand and take on the teacher s role. This can work, but sometimes is difficult and causes other problem. To address this, we could modify our approach to supplying support to these children. Instead of letting them take on the role of the teacher, we could allow the individuals in need of support to show a teacher how to take on the role of the student. The teacher could then, support the child and the child could still participate with their peers and continue the program. The children at CIPCC really like to interact and communicate with the teachers and the UVM students from the Fit Kids program. I think that the most influential ways to modify the games in this program will be to find unique alterations to address the individual needs of the children who could likely benefit from Kiddie CATs the most. Hamlet s beliefs about himself and his crisis over indecision are expounded upon by the binary oppositions created in his soliloquies. Hamlet s first soliloquy comes in act one scene two, as Hamlet reflects on the current state of events. The chief focus of this soliloquy is essentially the rottenness of the king, queen and the world in general. Though such strong comparisons to romanticized and mythical figures could are partially simple hyperbole, they also underscore some of the insecurity in Hamlet s character. The value in recognizing this comes as Hamlet descends into his madness, whether real or imaginary, where the reader can see that, even before Hamlet deliberately decides to appear to be mad he has certain issues and insecurities with his own feelings. Even more significantly, this passage begins to elaborate on Hamlet s relationship with his mother. Gertrude represents an interesting dilemma for the deconstructionist critic, as she does not create or involve herself in many conflicts or oppositions. She manages to significantly affect the plot and the subtext of the play while seeming almost insignificant as a character at first glance through the deconstructionist lens. She does not overtly affect events, and often plays the victim of circumstance. This very insignificance creates an issue for Hamlet, who is clearly quite disgusted with her behavior. Although there are aspects of how Napoleon fought that are used by many modern armies today, and his tactics and philosophy of fighting should continue to be studied, Napoleonic warfare is not fundamentally similar to modern warfare. Napoleon implemented ideas that modern armies use today; however the Revolutions in Military Affairs (RMAs) of the Franco Prussian Wars and American Civil War, and the military revolutions of World War I, and the Nuclear Age dictate to a greater degree how modern warfare is practiced. Military officers around the world still study Napoleon, but that does not mean that he and his style of warfare invented modern warfare. Napoleon is still relevant today because those that studied him such as Clausewitz and Jomni were able to distil Napoleon s Operational Art which is very relevant to military commanders and strategists today. Napoleon also introduced to Europe and the world how to build, maneuver and effectively use large armies, corps and echelons higher, and how to motivate soldiers. (take from The Rise of Napoleon). The Russian Revolution Of 1917 The Russian Revolution of 1917 brought with it the fall of 300 years of Romanov rule and marked the beginning of the transition of Tsarism to Communism, from which Lenin established the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, succeeded by Stalin. The Revolution is worthy of investigation as it is arguably the most significant event of the 20th century, considering that it helped shape many other subsequent events such as the Second World War and the Cold War. The Bolsheviks triumph can be accounted to two reasons: the first being the weaknesses of autocracy leading to the fall of Tsarism; the second the relative strengths of the Bolsheviks compared to the downfalls of the Provisional Government, leading to the Bolshevik takeover. There were many reasons for the fall of Tsarism, such as the backwardness of Russian society, the failure of the Tsar personally, and the autocratic system of government which caused grievances amongst the people. The Russian public desired political change, whether towards a more democratic society like 20th century Britain, or towards a more socialist revolution in which power was returned to the people. When assessing the reasons as to why Tsarism collapsed, it is crucial to look at the setting of early 19th century Russia, which inevitably led to the Tsar s weaknesses in his control of the government. In our modern, selfie centric, and Facebook likes driven culture, it is widely understood that the formation and discovery of the self are crucial to one s potential happiness. It is often advised that one must first focus on the well being, contentment, and happiness of one s self before working to provide such things for another. However, this mentality is relatively new in human history. It was once considered selfish to think of the self before the welfare of one s community since they were once much more deeply and rigidly bound together. As one can imagine, the transition from a community centric society to that of a self centric society was neither easy nor quick. It caused strife for many generations as those of the community based society saw their values being displaced and those who fought for the self centric changes they felt were necessary and right clashed over differing values. A prime example of this would be the feminist movement of the 18th Century Enlightenment movement; women were fighting to be perceived as equals, and they often conveyed ideas on their society and their positions in it though literature. In Mary Robinson s satirically ironic The Natural Daughter, she does just that by narrating the life of Martha, a young woman who rebuffs societal notions of ideal ladyhood and instead commits to being her self.
