John Steinbeck s Depiction Of The Tempts Of Jesus In The...
The Bible tells us that Satan is an expert tempter and he tempts us in three areas of our humanity
which are the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1Joh 2:16 KJV). We can see these
three things in his attempt to tempt Jesus in the wilderness to sin against God. Jesus had fasted for
forty days without food and was hungry so Satan challenges Jesus to turn stones into bread, but Jesus
responds to the temptation with Scripture. (Mat 4:3 KJV) And when the tempter came to him, he said
if thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. (Mat 4:4) But he answered and
said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every ... Show more content on

(Mat 4:8) Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the
kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; (Mat 4:9) and saith unto him, All these things will I
give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. (Mat 4:10) Then saith Jesus unto him, get thee
hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Satan adds more pressure in his attempt to convince Jesus to bow down and worship. He makes Jesus
a promise that he would give Him everything for Jesus s allegiance. In the first place, Satan cannot
give what he does not own. He is a liar and the author of deception. Jesus does not fall for the lies and
again resist Satan with the Word of God. (Deu 6:13KJV) Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and
serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. But God has a Word for us when we are tempted to sin
against Him. In 1 Cor. 10:13 (KJV) it is written, There hath no temptation taken you but such as is
common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but
will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear

Example Of Confirmation Bias
Confirmation Bias The confirmation bias is about us giving priority or being biased towards
information that affirms preceding and existing beliefs or experiences. Suppose that a person believes
that people who are left handed are more creative compared to right handed people. On any occasion
the person with this belief meets a person that is creative and also left handed they regard this
evidence quite important as it confirms their existing belief. They also might find proof further to back
up the belief and will disregard other examples which do not support the fundamental belief. While
confirmation biases have an influence on people collecting information they also have an impact how
information is being interpreted and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Necessarily, we have the tendency to believe that are successfulness are mainly because of our inner
characteristics and abilities. Although the failures experienced are a cause of the variables which
cannot be manipulated. In terms of how the Self Serving Bias operates in our day to day life, if you
get an A+ in an exam this bias will steer a belief within you which is that you prepared well for the
exam. At the same time by any chance if you failed the exam again it will make you believe that the
teacher did not do justice to this subject by teaching properly, the heat in the classroom was terrible or
you were disturbed by someone the night prior to the exam. This bias occurs mainly for people to keep
their self esteem in place. By the attribution of positive situations to personal traits, the confidence in
one is boosted. Also by casting the blame to the external sources people secure their self esteem as
well as deliver themselves from the individual control they may have over a situation. There are also
many factors that influence the Self Serving Bias such as age, gender, culture, one s mental state and

The Entry of LGBT in The Eastern Cultures.
1. Introduction
This is the way God made me day by day the same statement stated to emphasize that what happens
with them (homosexual community) are God will. Moreover since the legality of same sex marriage in
United States appeared, homosexual communities in eastern country seems become dare to show their
existence and to force the government do the same thing like western culture do, legalizing same sex
marriage.
Many people argued to make the best decision from all points of view. Arus Pelangi Community and
all pro LGBT community, with the name of human rights doubt with Indonesia‟s society and culture
in which most of them deny the legality of same sex marriage. The main reason of LGBT
community‟s struggle in legalizing same sex marriage is the thought of the same sex preference are
nature. However, the reference of this assumption is still in doubt.
An effort to change constitution in a country is not an easy matter. Need a very valid reason to do that.
To analyze the truth of the statement „sex preference is nature‟, we need to dig up the truth of the
origin of homosexuality. It is about the origin of it from historical perspective, and the origin of it
from science perspective.

The Expansion Of Islamic Rule
In Europe during 1250 1350, the major technological advancement, firearms, was significant in
influencing Europe s rulers. Although created between the mid 13th and 14th century, firearms, such
as cannons and muskets, weren t fully developed to be efficient and reliable in warfare until the mid
1400 s. Due to an increase in firearms, rulers began to create centralized, fiscal military states to
finance their strategic shift to firearm bearing infantries (542,). Rulers also began to implement
imperialism, extending a country s power and influence through military force, which had been a
dormant policy for decades. The reason for reverting was a result of developing commonwealths
between the competing realms, consisting of the religious civilizations of Islam and Christianity. The
people who led the expansion of Islamic rule, first over the Eastern Orthodox Christians and
eventually over the Western, the Ottomans, frequently attempted to raise immense amounts of
currency in silver and gold purely for the sake of obtains firepower in the hopes of world ruling. But
as Abu Lughod would reason, that was a long shot to begin with. Low on money, the Ottoman Sultans
compensated their military commanders with parcels of conquered land, also known as land grants.
Property used in land grants, typically farmed by local villagers, generated rental income for officers
of their regimes. However, once the Ottoman rulers had gained control over more cities and

Identifying The Right Candidate As The Biggest Challenge A...
Identifying and Hiring. The interviewee considered recruiting and identifying the right candidate as
the biggest challenge a human resource professional faces. They need to be good at identifying and
securing the services of the best candidates. Resourcefulness and adeptness in how to locate and
attract individuals with the best fit in an organization are challenging for a human resource
professional.
Employee Terminations or Layoffs. The interviewee also considered the legal issues that arise as a
result of carrying out employee terminations or layoffs as a major challenge facing human resource
professionals. The process is stressful as even a single misstep can expose the company to the
possibility of an expensive lawsuit.

Management with metrics allows an organization to have a true measure of how it has reached its
goals and objectives as well as act as an evaluation and analysis tool (Rees Smith, 2014).
Ethical Issues Faced by HR Professionals
Some of the ethical issues faced by human resource professionals include:
Cash and Compensation Plans. There exist ethical issues pertaining to remuneration, executive
compensation, and incentive plans. There is pressure to raise the base of salaries or pay more
incentives to executives for the human resource managers.
Gender, Race, and Disability. Most organizations differentiated employees based on gender, race,
origin, status or disability until recently as the laws and regulations have standardized the conduct of
employers and employees. An organization should only differentiate employees on the basis of
performance and should avoid discriminatory practices.
Privacy. Individuals working in an organization have personal sides to their existences, which they
would want to be respected and not intruded. An employee might prefer that some details about their
lives are private and this might clash with an employer s need to do so. For instance, mail scanning
might be done if an employee is suspected to be misusing company resources.
Some of these ethical issues will not see changes in the near future. For instance, an issue like
compensation will always be a challenge as long as a company pays for labor. The issue of

The Endocrine Part Of The Pancreas
The endocrine part of the pancreas consists of pancreatic islets (islets of the Langerhans). Insulin and
glucagon are hormones secreted by islet cells of the pancreas. Both of these hormones are secreted
depending on the blood glucose levels. Alpha cells of the pancreatic islets secrete glucagon and beta
cells of the pancreatic islets secrete insulin (Marieb, 2012). Insulin and glucagon are equally vital in
managing blood glucose, making sure the body functions well.
Glucose, which comes from the food we eat, is important for every body system. A decline in the
blood glucose level below its normal range causes the nervous system to function erratically because
glucose is its main source of energy. Insulin and glucagon hormones partner ... Show more content on

Some of the fatty acids are converted by the liver into acidic ketones as fats are broken down,
(Lienhard, G., 1992), which are released into the blood stream.
Insulin is normally secreted by the beta cells (a type of islet cell) of the pancreas. Insulin secretion is
triggered by high blood glucose level and increased parasympathetic stimulation that is associated
with digestion of a meal. Decreased insulin secretion results from decreasing blood glucose levels and
from stimulation by the sympathetic division of the nervous system (Seeley and Stephens, 2005).
Sympathetic stimulation of the pancreas increase during physical activities. Decreased insulin levels
allow blood glucose to be conserved to provide the brain with adequate glucose and to allow other
tissues to metabolize fatty acids and glycogen stored in the cells.
Insulin binds to membrane bound receptors and, either directly or indirectly, increases the rate of
glucose and amino acid uptake in different tissues. For insulin, the major target tissues are the the area

An Example Of Diffusion Of The Plasma Membrane
I. Introduction There s not much that comes to mind when it s time for that first cup of coffee in the
morning except hoping that it s strong enough to stimulate the mind for the time being. This real life
scenario is an example of diffusion. Simple right? When cream is poured into coffee it remains heavily
concentrated in the area it was poured at and eventually spreads throughout it. The more the coffee is
stirred the quicker the cream spreads even more. Sugar would do the same thing as well. This is an
example of how the interstitial fluids work within the bodies of humans. Interstitial fluids that enclose
in on a cell would be the cell membrane or the plasma membrane s doing. It creates a barrier between
the internal fluids and the exterior environment. When the body moves, the diffusing of the molecules
within it accelerates. The plasma membrane is made up of many substances, like salts, vitamins,
nutrients, waste products, etc... The plasma membrane dictates what enters and makes sure it s
sufficient. It blocks out the other substances that isn t needed. Also it happens to be selectively
permeable. This means either the molecules progress on without a hassle or there may be a little
difficulty to progress on. Materials traverse through the membrane by two methods, which are called
passive process and active process. In this lab passive process is part of the main focus. Energy from
the cell isn t a necessity when it comes to passive process. The word diffuse

Imagine You Get A Knock On The Door. You Open It, Hesitant,
Imagine you get a knock on the door. You open it, hesitant, knowing you have prior convictions, to see
multiple police officers and detectives. They invite themselves inside and begin asking you questions
about a cold case potentially involving a someone in your family. They ask if anyone in your family
matches the description of a suspect in the case and if you can provide an alibi for them. After
answering their questions, they leave and the next week you find out your brother was arrested for
murder; his DNA matched the sample taken from the crime scene. You helped solve a decade old
murder case and turned in your brother simultaneously. This is the result of familial searching. The

One in particular is the arrest of Lonnie David Franklin Jr. aka the Grim Sleeper last August in Los
Angeles, California. He was arrested for killing a confirmed 10 victims between 1985 and 2007 thanks
to a partial DNA match. Franklin had initially left DNA at the crime scene, but because he wasn t in
CODIS (the FBI s Combined DNA Index System) investigators hit a dead end. Finally, in 2010 they
found a partial match (15/16 alleles): one of Franklin s offspring. This led them right to Franklin
where they collected DNA and compared it to the sample taken from the crime scene and matched it.
This is one of the most convincing success stories of familial searching; finding a serial killer and
bringing him to justice almost a decade after the murders is an outstanding accomplishment for a
police department, so many others are following their lead and experimenting with the technique. But,
as of the end of 2016, only nine states allow it (McBride, 2016). Because of the many recorded
successes of this technique, many people are advocating for its use, especially family members of
victims whose killers have never been identified. One example of an advocate is the family of Katrina
Vetrano, a 30 year old woman from New York who was murdered last summer (Rosenberg, 2017).
The family believes that since all other investigative efforts have been exhausted, its time to start
pushing for its use and as of March 2017, the DNA subcommittee of

Nutrition Admission Essay Sample
I am interested in the nutrition program at MUIH for a variety of reasons. I have a passion for learning
how nutrients and food can significantly impact the body and a desire to share and help individuals
reach their health and wellness goals. Additionally, this program will provide me with the opportunity
to step foot into a career focused on preventative health. One of my passions in life has consistently
been about food, nutrition and wellness. As a small child, I was inspired by my mother and her
journey back to school to become a nutritionist. Consistently throughout my childhood, I was guided
towards healthy food with nutritional quality and learned about holistic health and how these things
can directly impact one s quality of life. Once I entered college, my love and passion for cooking and
food became apparent and I began to learn how to cook nutritiously and for substance. My knowledge
base grew as I began to seek out online sources of information from nutritionists and dietitians alike. I
have learned that there is not one thing that is a cure all when it comes to an individual s health, but
that prevention is key and nutrition can go a long way in helping a body recover.

automobile that was within the economic reach of the average American (Sorensen 1). Subsequently,
Henry Ford s assembly lines were used in World War II to make equipment for the army. His car

The Heart And Its Function In The Heart Of The Human Body
The heart is one of the most important organs in the human body. It circulates blood to the rest of the
body. The heart is made up of four chambers, of the two chambers, the two upper chambers (known as
the atria) and two lower chambers (known as ventricles). The heart is made up of three levels: the
myocardium, the endocardium, and the epicardium. The myocardium is the muscular middle layer of
the heart. It contains striated cardiac tissue and the myocardium is in charge of pumping blood and the
heart s action of pumping. The endocardium lines the inside of the heart and is made of smooth loose
connective tissue and simple squamous epithelial cells.
The endocardium prevents blood from sticking to the inside of the heart and also prevents blood from
clotting. The epicardium is the outermost layer of the heart. It is made of connective tissues. The
epicardium protects the inner structure of the heart and is also known as the visceral pericardium. The
heart is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body. Blood is the body s transport system and
works to perform several functions. Blood is made up of connective tissues and is vital for the body,
because it could not survive or remove waste. The circulatory system, which is responsible for
circulating the blood throughout the body, is always circulated in the same direction. Arteries carry
blood full of oxygen to all parts of the body, the further away from the heart the smaller they become,
which eventually turns them

Corruption In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
A constant theme throughout the entirety of the story of Grapes of Wrath is the corruption of the
government and police officers. This corruption appears in the beginning through the banks taking the
land from the farmers, and once the Joads reach California, it appears there and throughout the rest of
the story as the police and business owners. The officers beat them, and through the people into their
cars just because the business owner s point their fingers. This happens more than a few times within
the pages of the story, and the brutality given by the police to the crime doers is the cause of the death
of Jim Casy, which had an impact on me as the reader, because he was my personal favorite character
throughout the mess of the Joad family s trip. Obviously corruption exists in the real world, with many
governments around the planet not allowing any voice to be spoken except for their own, or even
hiding very dark secrets among themselves, but there is a form of corruption lying within another type
of corporation. The food industry is filled to the brim with lying and deceitful people, as well as dark

a time to celebrate the years harvest. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ. Even though
the holidays share many similarities, they also hold differences such as traditions, decorations, and the

Music Therapy And Its Effect On Children
Music plays an important role in everyone s life and, although the majority of people nowadays have
heard of music therapy, not many are exactly sure of what it is nor are they aware of its beneficial
effects (Peters 2). Children, in particular, have shown significant improvement in their disabilities
when subjected to musical therapy. Music therapist Ulla Holck s studies show that music therapy can
meet the basic needs of children with special needs, such as behavioral problems, attention skills,
social skills, emotional needs and intersubjective skills. In addition cognitive skills can be
strengthened if the basic needs are fulfilled (45). Music therapy is a process in which music is utilized
to meet or enhance the individual s mental and physical health. The introduction of music therapy has
always brought many benefits, no matter if in general settings or in schools and families; it is
documented to ameliorate the relationship between a child and the family, as well as aid children with
disabilities, such as autism, and special needs. Because of the proven effectiveness of music therapy
for children with disabilities and not, parents should be encouraged to make music apart of their
children s lives.
There is plenty of evidence that proves that music has been utilized in therapy and healing practices
since ancient times. Among the earliest people to practice music therapy before it even became a
profession were the shamans, who originated in the primitive civilizations

Personal Statement For Making A Personal Ethics Statement
In order to develop a personal ethics statement for Simply Special, I need to discover what it is that I
want to accomplish within this organization. Through the process of discovering those potential
accomplishments, I must be realistic and consider the pros and cons. As I have learned it takes
dedication, determination, and will to reach ethical goals and statements for Simply Special to
succeed. In addition to taking pride for our work, we want to stand behind our productions with
enthusiasm, excellence, and motivation. My Worldview First, viewing the world as it is will
accumulate many thoughts, expressions, and feelings. Establishing a worldview means to provide
personal opinion on various subjects. As I look over the way society operates today, I come to the
conclusion that the world is confused, in crisis, and judgmental among several other things, but at the
same time it is transformable to move forward in a righteous direction. In lighter words, all is not yet
lost. Romans 12:2 (NLT) reads, Don t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God
transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God s
will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. However, my worldview is we, as a people, are
on this Earth for a reason and for a season, our time is limited; therefore instead of pleasing man by
aiming to be like man or of their standards, we should focus on God and becoming closer to Him. God

Slumdog Millionaire Theme Symbolism
Although the setting of Slumdog Millionaire by Danny Boyle and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night
by Ana Lily Amirpour are different, they both use the plot structure and symbolism to present the
common theme: the destiny, which can be shaped by choices and actions.
The life story of the protagonist Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire is built through the game show
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and a series of his flashbacks revealing how his life experiences gave
him the right answers to every quiz question in the show. It displays the way he formed his destiny. On
the day when running away from the Hindu rioters who brutally killed his mother just because of the
religious difference, Jamal accidentally met Latika. Driven by the ... Show more content on

Lack of education, he hardly could know the answers to the quiz on a wide range of topics. However,
he won the top prize of the show and became a millionaire. There is no answer to his happy ending
other than It is written , or, It is destiny . Jamal s destiny is the result of his actions. If he had not
earned an honest living by being a chaiwallah at a mobile phone company s call center, he would
never have known how to get the chance to join the game show. If he had not been a contestant on the
game show, he would never have become the millionaire. He tried to change the life he was given,
created his own life, chose the paths he took that made him who he is ultimately destined to become.
Finding Latika at the railway station in the last scene of the film, he said, This is our destiny (1:47:56).
Eventually, a young uneducated man whose life was full of poverty and tragedy got his destiny,
becoming a millionaire and enjoying the true love after many painful life experiences.
A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night portrays the main character The Girl as scary and lethal, but
human in both appearance and motive. She is a chador wearing female vampire who wanders in Bad
City at night to stalk. Parallelly, she is also a pretty young girl wearing a striped shirt and putting on
lipstick, preying on immoral men. She created her own destiny and shaped it with her choices and
actions. The life of The Girl and

Radical Feminism And Civil Rights Movement During 1967-1975
Radical feminism was birthed as a solution to patriarchy what women viewed as the sole reason of
their oppression during the Women s and Civil Rights Movement during 1967 1975. These feminists
believe that the world is governed through a patriarchal system where men control the government,
media, and the state, among other things. Thus, radical feminists deemed that the presence of men
resulted in their oppression. The goal for radical feminists is to completely separate men from all
aspects of life in order to heal, eradicate oppression, and develop in social standing. Radical feminists
shied away from structures they believed supported patriarchy such as religion and family
construction. They viewed the current family structure as a system

Worrell s Statement Analysis
1) Do you agree with Worrell s (2013) statement that Rather than asking if a student is gifted a
question that suggests some general, innate capacity the question would be better focused on
identifying the academic domains in which the student performs very well (p. 140). Why or why not?
I agree with Worrell s (2013) statement. We should be asking and assessing not only if the student is
gifted, but how are they gifted? As Worrell point out most gifted and talented programs in elementary
and middle school involved a broad range of enrichment activities, which may have no relationship to
the talents of the students in the program (Worrell, p. 140). Many students are placed in a one size fits

142). What is the problem with the question? What question should be asked instead?
Worrell points out throughout chapter 14 that non verbal assessments should be used as part of the
identification process. They aid in eliminating test bias for underrepresented populations and for
students with speech, language, and hearing impairments (Worrell, p. 135). They are also considered
to be a good measure of cognitive intelligence, which is the second best predictor of success for
students (p. 137). A better question to ask if the non verbal test will show giftedness is the specific
domain that one assesses for a particular student, or will it point skills and aptitudes for success in a
specific domain. One can look at the unique variance component of the test score to find this
information, which shows reliable components of reasons that aren t considered general intelligence
(e.g. short term memory or quantitative reasoning). Worrell says, Not all scores are created equal ;
finding the test, and interpreting the score is dependent upon what you are looking

Fraser Coast
Fraser Coast consists of four main ecosystems which are rocky shores, sand dunes, rainforests and
mangroves. All of these ecosystems are important to the survival of several plants and animals. Each
plant and animal work together to keep the ecosystem alive and healthy.
Rocky Shores are found where the sea meets the land which supports a diverse mix of plants and
animals that have adapted to survive in the unique conditions of constant wave action as well as the
fall of tides (Ehp.qld. 2016). Most of the ecosystems flora and fauna live in the intertidal zone,

Independence Of Indi Mahatma Gandhi
There were many Indian nationalists who had wriggled against the British, who had seized the whole
country of India. On the one hand, nationalists were extremists, who had fought against the British
army and sacrifice their lives for the country, while on the other hand, there were modernists, who had
made peaceful and non violent movements against British. These events were marked as of
prominence importance in the history. One of the greatest examples of nationalists in India was
Mahatma Gandhi, a modernist. He had employed Satyagraha (passive resistance) movements like Salt
March, Mass movements, and Quit India movement. He had also made his clothes from a spinning
wheel instead of buying them from English people. As a result of these movements, he made India an
independent nation and gained lots of reverence from Indians
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born at October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, a small, seaside town in
the Kathiawar peninsula in western India about halfway between Mumbai and Karachi. He was born
at rich family. He was married to Kasturba at age thirteen. Since he was from a rich background, his
relatives were able to send him to England for better education. At England, he studied at University
College of London and became a lawyer. After his education, he went to South Africa to work as a
lawyer. At South Africa, his attendance was required at the lawsuit in Pretoria. So, he took the train
and moved in the first class compartment at first class tickets.

Gerry Mulligan Essay
Counterpoint in Gerry Mulligan s Compositions and Arrangements
In 1952 Gerald Joseph Gerry Mulligan (1927 1996) started playing at a jazz club in Los Angeles
called The Haig. During that time he met a lot of the best jazz musicians on the West Coast, including
Kenneth Norville Red Norvo , Erroll Garner, Chesney Chet Baker, Milton Shorty Rogers, Foreststorn
Chico Hamilton, Clifford Bud Shank, Keith Red Mitchell, Robert Whitlock, and also some rising
talent of the area. At The Haig, Mulligan created his famous pianoless quartet with Chico Hamilton on
drums, Robert Whitlock on bass, and Chet Baker on trumpet. Mulligan s idea of having a rhythm
section without a chordal instrument (i.e., piano, guitar, vibraphone) was in part inspired by his desire
of using more counterpoint. Having gained a lot of experience as an arranger and composer with
previous projects with Stan Kenton, and Miles Davis, Mulligan wanted to create a counterpoint
oriented jazz group. His quartet became the first polyphonic jazz group with a contrapuntal style of
performing that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

best seller in California. This passage is an example of how Mulligan was creating three voice
counterpoint with the quartet; the trumpet played the standard melody, while the saxophone performed
a contrapuntal written line. Meanwhile the bass played a line some times written, other times
improvised. The resulting counterpoint contained a lot of movements and sonorities commonly
avoided in traditional polyphony, but at the same time it became the signature sound of his

Symbolism In The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver People face difficult and life altering challenges every
day. Some of the awful times are more complex and affect more people than other types can. A
challenge can start out as a family trying to help the less fortunate, but then take a turn for the worse.
Even if it wasn t a specific person s fault, he or she still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood Bible by
Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses symbolism and allusions to prove the theme everyone has and
deals with guilt differently. For starters, Barbara Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism, especially rain.
According to Thomas C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor rain can be restorative and
cleansing (Foster 83). In more simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and happiness. However in this
story, the rain symbolizes hard times and guilt. The family s server, Nelson, told Adah it was our
offenses that brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver 172). If rain, in The Poisonwood Bible meant
rebirth and cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as pronounced.
The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to
have allusions throughout the story. The allusions deliver the theme by helping the readers see what
happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not supposed to do
the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The Verse is a punishment

Analysis Of Diane Riva s Exposed Toes
In the text Exposed Toes the author, Diane Riva, reflects on her collection of shoes and how each pair
has a meaning to her. She describes how each pair of shoe she owns relates to a specific memory or
time period in her life. She asserts that shoes can tell stories of our lives and are not just an article of
clothing that we wear on our feet. Riva goes through all the shoes she owns and explains their story
and how the shoe is a part of her life. For example, she brings up her black sneakers which are worn
when we works at a bar. She states, they are constant recipients of the over filled glass of alcohol.
From this we learn her profession and get some insight on her memories as a bartender. Riva talks
about all of her shoes in this manner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the entire text, multiple examples of flashback are used in order for the audience to view
Riva s past experiences. She gave an example of flashing back to one cold November day to pick up
her paycheck while wearing her huaraches. Due to this flashback, we get a little glimpse of a story that
happened as the author was wearing her huarache shoes. By using a flashback, it is an attempt by the
author to make the audience relate to her situation. It also allows the reader to fully understand the
context of the given argument by hearing about events that took place prior to argument at hand.
Flashbacks within a text allow for great effectiveness because they entice the audience and make
current arguments more clear given an

Friar Lawrence Character Analysis
Even the best of intentions can have tragic ends: a lesson well portrayed by the holy friar of Verona. At
a first glance, one would consider Friar Lawrence only a minor influence in the tragedy of Romeo and
Juliet. However, he is much more significant to the development of the play. Friar Lawrence acts as a
catalyst to further sequence love and peace. He is without a doubt, a very complicated individual, and
it is his complex nature that makes him such an interesting character. In William Shakespeare s Romeo
and Juliet, Friar Lawrence is seen as a tragic hero because of his noble status, his good intentions, and
his naive fatal flaw
To begin, Friar Lawrence has a high position in his society. When he is first introduced in act 2, he ...

The significance of this quote lies in Capulet believing the friar s farfetched story. Therefore, because
of Friar Lawrence s role in society as well as the effects he has on others, he is definitely highly
respected.
Secondly, Friar Lawrence s intentions are always for the benefit of others. He helps his fellow citizens
when they are in despair, such as when Romeo arrives at the friar s cell crying himself to death. The
friar responds, Thou shalt live, till we can find a time to blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends,
beg pardon of the prince, and call thee back (3, 3, 150 152). Here, Friar Lawrence acts as a mentor to
Romeo, and uplifts his spirits by guiding him through the difficult times of banishment. Friar tells
Romeo what he wants to hear because he understands Romeo s boundless love for Juliet, and what
may happen as the consequence of forbidden love. Moreover, Friar Lawrence has noble intentions that
give himself no personal gain. When he agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet, he says, In one respect I ll
thy assistant be, for this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households rancor to pure love (2, 3,
90 92). Friar decides to marry the young lovers not only to help his friends, but because he believes it
will end the long bitter feud of Verona. He only cares about the wellbeing of the city and the safety of
the opposing families. Lastly, Friar Lawrence always assists his fellow citizens in their time of
desperation. When

  • 2. John Steinbeck s Depiction Of The Tempts Of Jesus In The... The Bible tells us that Satan is an expert tempter and he tempts us in three areas of our humanity which are the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1Joh 2:16 KJV). We can see these three things in his attempt to tempt Jesus in the wilderness to sin against God. Jesus had fasted for forty days without food and was hungry so Satan challenges Jesus to turn stones into bread, but Jesus responds to the temptation with Scripture. (Mat 4:3 KJV) And when the tempter came to him, he said if thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. (Mat 4:4) But he answered and said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Mat 4:10) Then saith Jesus unto him, get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Satan adds more pressure in his attempt to convince Jesus to bow down and worship. He makes Jesus a promise that he would give Him everything for Jesus s allegiance. In the first place, Satan cannot give what he does not own. He is a liar and the author of deception. Jesus does not fall for the lies and again resist Satan with the Word of God. (Deu 6:13KJV) Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. But God has a Word for us when we are tempted to sin against Him. In 1 Cor. 10:13 (KJV) it is written, There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear ... • 3. Example Of Confirmation Bias Confirmation Bias The confirmation bias is about us giving priority or being biased towards information that affirms preceding and existing beliefs or experiences. Suppose that a person believes that people who are left handed are more creative compared to right handed people. On any occasion the person with this belief meets a person that is creative and also left handed they regard this evidence quite important as it confirms their existing belief. They also might find proof further to back up the belief and will disregard other examples which do not support the fundamental belief. While confirmation biases have an influence on people collecting information they also have an impact how information is being interpreted and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Necessarily, we have the tendency to believe that are successfulness are mainly because of our inner characteristics and abilities. Although the failures experienced are a cause of the variables which cannot be manipulated. In terms of how the Self Serving Bias operates in our day to day life, if you get an A+ in an exam this bias will steer a belief within you which is that you prepared well for the exam. At the same time by any chance if you failed the exam again it will make you believe that the teacher did not do justice to this subject by teaching properly, the heat in the classroom was terrible or you were disturbed by someone the night prior to the exam. This bias occurs mainly for people to keep their self esteem in place. By the attribution of positive situations to personal traits, the confidence in one is boosted. Also by casting the blame to the external sources people secure their self esteem as well as deliver themselves from the individual control they may have over a situation. Moreover since the legality of same sex marriage in United States appeared, homosexual communities in eastern country seems become dare to show their existence and to force the government do the same thing like western culture do, legalizing same sex marriage. Many people argued to make the best decision from all points of view. The main reason of LGBT community‟s struggle in legalizing same sex marriage is the thought of the same sex preference are nature. However, the reference of this assumption is still in doubt. An effort to change constitution in a country is not an easy matter. Need a very valid reason to do that. To analyze the truth of the statement „sex preference is nature‟, we need to dig up the truth of the origin of homosexuality. • 6. The Expansion Of Islamic Rule In Europe during 1250 1350, the major technological advancement, firearms, was significant in influencing Europe s rulers. Although created between the mid 13th and 14th century, firearms, such as cannons and muskets, weren t fully developed to be efficient and reliable in warfare until the mid 1400 s. Due to an increase in firearms, rulers began to create centralized, fiscal military states to finance their strategic shift to firearm bearing infantries (542,). Rulers also began to implement imperialism, extending a country s power and influence through military force, which had been a dormant policy for decades. The reason for reverting was a result of developing commonwealths between the competing realms, consisting of the religious civilizations of Islam and Christianity. The people who led the expansion of Islamic rule, first over the Eastern Orthodox Christians and eventually over the Western, the Ottomans, frequently attempted to raise immense amounts of currency in silver and gold purely for the sake of obtains firepower in the hopes of world ruling. But as Abu Lughod would reason, that was a long shot to begin with. Low on money, the Ottoman Sultans compensated their military commanders with parcels of conquered land, also known as land grants. Property used in land grants, typically farmed by local villagers, generated rental income for officers of their regimes. Management with metrics allows an organization to have a true measure of how it has reached its goals and objectives as well as act as an evaluation and analysis tool (Rees Smith, 2014). Ethical Issues Faced by HR Professionals Some of the ethical issues faced by human resource professionals include: Cash and Compensation Plans. There exist ethical issues pertaining to remuneration, executive compensation, and incentive plans. There is pressure to raise the base of salaries or pay more incentives to executives for the human resource managers. Gender, Race, and Disability. Most organizations differentiated employees based on gender, race, origin, status or disability until recently as the laws and regulations have standardized the conduct of employers and employees. An organization should only differentiate employees on the basis of performance and should avoid discriminatory practices. Privacy. Individuals working in an organization have personal sides to their existences, which they would want to be respected and not intruded. An employee might prefer that some details about their lives are private and this might clash with an employer s need to do so. For instance, mail scanning might be done if an employee is suspected to be misusing company resources. Some of these ethical issues will not see changes in the near future. • 8. The Endocrine Part Of The Pancreas The endocrine part of the pancreas consists of pancreatic islets (islets of the Langerhans). Insulin and glucagon are hormones secreted by islet cells of the pancreas. Both of these hormones are secreted depending on the blood glucose levels. Alpha cells of the pancreatic islets secrete glucagon and beta cells of the pancreatic islets secrete insulin (Marieb, 2012). Insulin and glucagon are equally vital in managing blood glucose, making sure the body functions well. Glucose, which comes from the food we eat, is important for every body system. A decline in the blood glucose level below its normal range causes the nervous system to function erratically because glucose is its main source of energy. Insulin and glucagon hormones partner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the fatty acids are converted by the liver into acidic ketones as fats are broken down, (Lienhard, G., 1992), which are released into the blood stream. Insulin is normally secreted by the beta cells (a type of islet cell) of the pancreas. Insulin secretion is triggered by high blood glucose level and increased parasympathetic stimulation that is associated with digestion of a meal. Decreased insulin secretion results from decreasing blood glucose levels and from stimulation by the sympathetic division of the nervous system (Seeley and Stephens, 2005). Sympathetic stimulation of the pancreas increase during physical activities. Decreased insulin levels allow blood glucose to be conserved to provide the brain with adequate glucose and to allow other tissues to metabolize fatty acids and glycogen stored in the cells. • 9. An Example Of Diffusion Of The Plasma Membrane I. Introduction There s not much that comes to mind when it s time for that first cup of coffee in the morning except hoping that it s strong enough to stimulate the mind for the time being. This real life scenario is an example of diffusion. Simple right? When cream is poured into coffee it remains heavily concentrated in the area it was poured at and eventually spreads throughout it. The more the coffee is stirred the quicker the cream spreads even more. Sugar would do the same thing as well. This is an example of how the interstitial fluids work within the bodies of humans. Interstitial fluids that enclose in on a cell would be the cell membrane or the plasma membrane s doing. It creates a barrier between the internal fluids and the exterior environment. When the body moves, the diffusing of the molecules within it accelerates. The plasma membrane is made up of many substances, like salts, vitamins, nutrients, waste products, etc... The plasma membrane dictates what enters and makes sure it s sufficient. It blocks out the other substances that isn t needed. Also it happens to be selectively permeable. This means either the molecules progress on without a hassle or there may be a little difficulty to progress on. Materials traverse through the membrane by two methods, which are called passive process and active process. In this lab passive process is part of the main focus. Energy from the cell isn t a necessity when it comes to passive process. The word diffuse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They ask if anyone in your family matches the description of a suspect in the case and if you can provide an alibi for them. After answering their questions, they leave and the next week you find out your brother was arrested for murder; his DNA matched the sample taken from the crime scene. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One in particular is the arrest of Lonnie David Franklin Jr. aka the Grim Sleeper last August in Los Angeles, California. He was arrested for killing a confirmed 10 victims between 1985 and 2007 thanks to a partial DNA match. Franklin had initially left DNA at the crime scene, but because he wasn t in CODIS (the FBI s Combined DNA Index System) investigators hit a dead end. Finally, in 2010 they found a partial match (15/16 alleles): one of Franklin s offspring. This led them right to Franklin where they collected DNA and compared it to the sample taken from the crime scene and matched it. This is one of the most convincing success stories of familial searching; finding a serial killer and bringing him to justice almost a decade after the murders is an outstanding accomplishment for a police department, so many others are following their lead and experimenting with the technique. But, as of the end of 2016, only nine states allow it (McBride, 2016). Because of the many recorded successes of this technique, many people are advocating for its use, especially family members of victims whose killers have never been identified. One example of an advocate is the family of Katrina Vetrano, a 30 year old woman from New York who was murdered last summer (Rosenberg, 2017). The family believes that since all other investigative efforts have been exhausted, its time to start pushing for its use and as of March 2017, the DNA subcommittee of ... I have a passion for learning how nutrients and food can significantly impact the body and a desire to share and help individuals reach their health and wellness goals. Additionally, this program will provide me with the opportunity to step foot into a career focused on preventative health. One of my passions in life has consistently been about food, nutrition and wellness. As a small child, I was inspired by my mother and her journey back to school to become a nutritionist. Consistently throughout my childhood, I was guided towards healthy food with nutritional quality and learned about holistic health and how these things can directly impact one s quality of life. Once I entered college, my love and passion for cooking and food became apparent and I began to learn how to cook nutritiously and for substance. My knowledge base grew as I began to seek out online sources of information from nutritionists and dietitians alike. I have learned that there is not one thing that is a cure all when it comes to an individual s health, but that prevention is key and nutrition can go a long way in helping a body recover. The United States Army Air Forces realized not only the tactical advantage of wielding such power, but the most effective means of exercising that power. • 16. The Heart And Its Function In The Heart Of The Human Body The heart is one of the most important organs in the human body. It circulates blood to the rest of the body. The heart is made up of four chambers, of the two chambers, the two upper chambers (known as the atria) and two lower chambers (known as ventricles). The heart is made up of three levels: the myocardium, the endocardium, and the epicardium. The myocardium is the muscular middle layer of the heart. It contains striated cardiac tissue and the myocardium is in charge of pumping blood and the heart s action of pumping. The endocardium lines the inside of the heart and is made of smooth loose connective tissue and simple squamous epithelial cells. The endocardium prevents blood from sticking to the inside of the heart and also prevents blood from clotting. The epicardium is the outermost layer of the heart. It is made of connective tissues. The epicardium protects the inner structure of the heart and is also known as the visceral pericardium. The heart is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body. Blood is the body s transport system and works to perform several functions. Blood is made up of connective tissues and is vital for the body, because it could not survive or remove waste. The circulatory system, which is responsible for circulating the blood throughout the body, is always circulated in the same direction. Arteries carry blood full of oxygen to all parts of the body, the further away from the heart the smaller they become, which eventually turns them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Corruption In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath A constant theme throughout the entirety of the story of Grapes of Wrath is the corruption of the government and police officers. This corruption appears in the beginning through the banks taking the land from the farmers, and once the Joads reach California, it appears there and throughout the rest of the story as the police and business owners. The officers beat them, and through the people into their cars just because the business owner s point their fingers. Children, in particular, have shown significant improvement in their disabilities when subjected to musical therapy. Music therapist Ulla Holck s studies show that music therapy can meet the basic needs of children with special needs, such as behavioral problems, attention skills, social skills, emotional needs and intersubjective skills. In addition cognitive skills can be strengthened if the basic needs are fulfilled (45). Music therapy is a process in which music is utilized to meet or enhance the individual s mental and physical health. The introduction of music therapy has always brought many benefits, no matter if in general settings or in schools and families; it is documented to ameliorate the relationship between a child and the family, as well as aid children with disabilities, such as autism, and special needs. Because of the proven effectiveness of music therapy for children with disabilities and not, parents should be encouraged to make music apart of their children s lives. Why or why not? I agree with Worrell s (2013) statement. We should be asking and assessing not only if the student is gifted, but how are they gifted? As Worrell point out most gifted and talented programs in elementary and middle school involved a broad range of enrichment activities, which may have no relationship to the talents of the students in the program (Worrell, p. 140). At The Haig, Mulligan created his famous pianoless quartet with Chico Hamilton on drums, Robert Whitlock on bass, and Chet Baker on trumpet. Mulligan s idea of having a rhythm section without a chordal instrument (i.e., piano, guitar, vibraphone) was in part inspired by his desire of using more counterpoint. • 31. Symbolism In The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver People face difficult and life altering challenges every day. Some of the awful times are more complex and affect more people than other types can. A challenge can start out as a family trying to help the less fortunate, but then take a turn for the worse. Even if it wasn t a specific person s fault, he or she still feels guilty. In The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, the author uses symbolism and allusions to prove the theme everyone has and deals with guilt differently. For starters, Barbara Kingsolver uses a lot of symbolism, especially rain. According to Thomas C. Foster s How to Read Literature Like a Professor rain can be restorative and cleansing (Foster 83). In more simpler terms, rain symbolizes rebirth and happiness. However in this story, the rain symbolizes hard times and guilt. The family s server, Nelson, told Adah it was our offenses that brought on this rainy season (Kingsolver 172). If rain, in The Poisonwood Bible meant rebirth and cleansing, the theme of guilt would not be as pronounced. The Price Family is very religious and has a strong belief in God. Therefore, it only makes sense to have allusions throughout the story. The allusions deliver the theme by helping the readers see what happens when someone is guilty. For instance, if the girls do something they are not supposed to do the father, Nathan, would tell the girls you have The Verse (Kingsolver 59). The Verse is a punishment to make ...
