What Does It Mean To Be A Girl
It s a girl! Most parents fantasize about hearing those precious and promising words because soon a
little girl will make its way into their life and she will be sweet, innocent, and pure. Nothing will hurt
that child, but unfortunately those parents are blinded by the happiness of the moment and do not
realize that the little girl will grow up and be worth less than her husband and she will be worth less in
society. In Merriam Webster s Unabridged Dictionary the word girl means a female child from birth to
adulthood, but in addition to this simple word there holds an immense amount of meaning. Four letters
and that s all it takes for someone to roll their eyes and laugh because that word is linked to weakness,
negativity, and obnoxious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a girl you are expected to break, but in reality girls have to pretend nothing will break them or they
will again be judged by society. This tends to be the case because if a girl breaks it will just add fire to
the sexist prejudices put upon them as a gender. In Serena Nanda s article Arranging a Marriage in
India, she talks about her research in India, when a son s parents are looking for a wife for their son
they have a very long list of expectations. She should be from the same caste system, pretty, not too
intelligent, meshes with the family well, doesn t stray from home, nor does she gossip or call home a
lot, and the most important thing is that she is pure before marriage. Though these expectations tend to
look somewhat different in the U.S. they have the same ideas. A girl should be boxed in away from
society and taking care of the children or perhaps being a good cook to put it into simpler terms
because that is what society unfairly tells us a girl should be able to do. Serena also talks about how it
is very important for a girl to protect the family name and in no way ever disgrace it. If that girl does
disgrace the family (for example not staying pure) it is not uncommon for her brother or even cousin
to murder her. Why is a family s expectations based on what a girl does? These unrealistic
expectations push girls too far and cause us to think our worth is less because we cannot do it all, even
though society thinks that s the least we could

Anila Daulatzi Essay Examples
The Muslim Professor being dragged off her flight, racially assaulted and then charged with no due
cause is an example of prejudice leading to immoral actions. On Tuesday, October 3rd of this year,
Anila Daulatzai, who teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art, boarded a Southwest flight in
order to see her sick father. Before the flight s departure, she noticed two canines and informed a flight
attendant of her acute allergy to dogs and then was then moved to the rear of the plane with no
conflict. However, shortly afterward she was told that she would have to leave the by two members of
the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. They then forcefully dragged her out of her seat and
they attempted to haul her off the plain, during the entire encounter the officers treated her roughly,
spoke to her in a condescending tone and treated her essentially like she was a criminal. Even after she
and the officers parted ways the ordeal continued because of their attempts to charge her of with
resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and threatening and racist letters in the mail. ... Show more

According to Southwest, one such reason is the fact the crew believed she had a fatal allergy to dogs.
Apparently, its reports said Daulatzai told staff about a life threatening allergy. If this was the case
then it would be in the Crew, Airport, and passengers best interest to have the professor disembark the
plane for safety reasons. Also, as you can see in the video she was clearly resisting against the officers
and making a disturbance in that environment which might have prompted the aggression from the

Language barriers could play a big part in a staff member understanding what they are hearing or

Individuals personal beliefs and attitudes impact significantly on the way they behave, overcoming

Nino Vs The Jewel Exchange Summary
Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange The legal agenda in the case of Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange was
that the defendant, Rajae Nino made allegations to his employer that he was being discriminated on
the account of his gender and nationality. The primary stipulation to this case was that Nino had
signed a contract that was unconscionable. The primary function of this agreement gave most of the
power to The Jewelry Exchange. The Court of Appeals decided that the arbitration agreements did not
favor their employee. The definition of unconscionable from Webster s Dictionary states, excessive,
unreasonable . What is means for a contract to be unconscionable is that contractually, the contract is
very one sided and extremely favors one party over another. Procedural unconscionability is the
conditions and the procedures that are within the contract results in various inequalities such as age,
intelligence, and relative bargaining power. When a contract is substantively unconscionable it means
that that actual terms of the contract are unfair, oppressive or harsh. Cases such as Nino vs The
Jewelry Exchange showed that the terms if the contract were ambiguous and suspect, this was one of
the primary reasons that the Court of Appeals ruled in Nino s favor. One example that the contract that
Nino signed that the agreement was procedurally unconscionable can be accessed in Article IV of the
contract. Article IV was described as the sole, final, binding and

Felony Voir Dire Case
Felony Voir Dire
Johnson and Haney describe a study related to the voir dire process.
The sixth amendment to the U.S constitution guarantees a defendant in a criminal prosecution the
right to a speedy, public, and impartial trial by jury. Once it has determined that the trail will be by
jury, the next step in the criminal proceeding is the selection of the jurors. During this process possible
jurors receive a summons in the mall ordering them to appear in court at a specified time and date the
people who are summoned comprise the venire (the prospective jurors for cases). Voir dire Latin term
meaning to speak the truth, this is an examination conducted by the courts or by the attorneys of a
potential juror or witness to determine if they would be proficient or qualified for services. Jurors
questionnaires reveals information disqualifying them from jury service is only the first step in the
jury selection process. Typical questions relate to whether prospective jurors know the defendant, the
attorneys, or any of the witnesses, whether they have read or heard about the case in the media, and
whether they have racial, nationality, or gender biases. Effective voir dire is getting the prospective
jurors to tell the court or attorneys what they need to know.
During the voir dire process, the way jurors are removed is part logic and part legal strategy. The
judge determines that a potential juror is not likely to be fair to both sides in the case, than the juror
will be

Bob Parr Incredible Essay
Mr. Incredible, Bob Parr, is a great example of an apostolate. In his younger days, he saved the people
of the town. One person whom he always put down was Buddy, who eventually would become
Syndrome. When he retired, it was hard for him to stop. This is similar to when a priest retires; he
wants to stay involved in the Church. He used his super strength to help others. He also used his kind
heart that we all have to save others. His talent was his super power. He used his gifts and talents to
help the town against villains or mother nature. His calling to the world was to help and serve others.
This is important. We need to listen to God s calling to us about what he wants us to do. I believe God
wants me to help serve others just like he did but without the superpowers. It would be cool to have
those to help, too. The mission they unite together for is to stop villains all in all. In this movie, they
specifically stop Syndrome. Helen and Bob also fix their marriage after he did not tell her the
complete truth. Bob regrets not telling his family what was going on when he thought his wife and
kids were killed. When he found out they were alive, all he wanted to do was prevent his family from
harm because he had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A connection the public has to the Parr family would be the kids going to school. Violet is shy, but she
likes popular kid. At the end of the movie, they finally talk. At the beginning of the movie, Bob saves
an old lady s cat. They follow the path of the early Christians by going out and helping others. They
were supposed to hide their super powers, but their calling was to help others. Many people honor the
Incredibles. For example, the public honor him. When he saved the people from the burning building,
they probably did not know it was him, but they probably knew who had saved them. Bob also saved

Isaac Newton On Christmas Day
Sir Isaac Newton on Christmas Day, 25 December 1642 . His studies had impressed the Lucasian
professor, Isaac Barrow, who was more anxious to develop his own religious and administrative
potential, and in 1669, Newton succeeded him, only one year after he received his M.A. He was
elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1672. The author of the manuscript De analysi per
aequationes numero terminorum infinitas, sent by Isaac Barrow to John Collins in June 1669, was
identified by Barrow in a letter sent to Collins in August of that year as: Newton later became

His use of methods involving one or more orders of the infinitesimally small is present in his De motu
corporum in gyrum of 1684 and in his papers on motion during the two decades preceding 1684 .
Newton had been reluctant to publish his calculus because he feared controversy and criticism. He
was close to the Swiss mathematician Nicolas Fatio de Duillier. In 1691, Duillier started to write a
new version of Newton s Principia, and corresponded with Leibniz. In 1693, the relationship between
Duillier and Newton deteriorated and the book was never completed. Starting in 1699, other members
of the Royal Society accused Leibniz of plagiarism. The dispute then broke out in full force in 1711
when the Royal Society proclaimed in a study that it was Newton who was the true discoverer and
labelled Leibniz a fraud. This study was cast into doubt when it was later found that Newton himself
wrote the study s concluding remarks on Leibniz. Thus began the bitter controversy which marred the
lives of both Newton and Leibniz until the latter s death in

Vladimir Lenin And The Russian Revolution
Vladimir Lenin was the leader of the Russian revolution. Lenin s reason for writing State and
Revolution was to explain his view on Karl Marx s reasoning for a state and views on what the
proletariat, working class, should do during a revolution. The goal of a revolution such as this, a
communist revolution, is to give the power to the working people, which is to say that Lenin, similar
to Castro and Nkrumah, wants to be free from imperialism. Another is to Lenin s view on revolution is
that it can only be achieved through nationality and unity.(Lenin, State and Revolution, page 22) The
overthrow of bourgeois rule can be accomplished only by the proletariat, as the particular class, which,
by the economic conditions of its existence, is being prepared for this work and is provided both with
the opportunity and the power to perform it. (Lenin 23) He believes that a revolution can only succeed
with the use of violence from the proletariat against the party that is in control.(Lenin, 22 23) The
replacement of the bourgeois by the proletarian state is impossible without a violent revolution.
(Lenin, 22) As a leader Lenin is an advocate of change. He is a communist and believes in giving
power to the people, mainly the proletariat.(Lenin 20) Kwame Nkrumah, was the leader of Ghana first
as Prime Minister then as President once they gained independence from Great Britain. Nkrumah

The one we have been is bigger than another one, and it is brighter.
The service process for the Starbucks coffee shop has several steps. First step is the customers get in
to the coffee shop; second step is customers go to the encounter or queue up in front of the encounter;
third step is the staff of coffee shop greet with customers; forth step is the staff takes order from
customers and ask them would you like anything else? ; fifth step is the staff asks the customers name
and write on the cups; sixth step is customers pay the bill; seventh step is customers go to the another
encounter to waiting the drinks; eighth step is the staff calls the customers name; ninth step is
customers crap the drinks; finally, the staff says goodbye and have nice day to customers. When
customers order the drinks, they have to join a queue in front of encounter. This likes a policy in the
every coffee shop.
They also have some supplementary services, such as customers can take away the drinks, or the store
provides some chairs and tables for customers can have drink inside the store.
We also discussed about the human resource management for the Starbucks coffee shop. There are
five people in the store, one staff takes order and check the bills, two staffs make the drinks, one staff
cleans the cups or machines, and the last one is manager, he monitors the other employees work and
when the peak hours, he will help them to take order or make drinks.

This past couple months have been a very hard time for me. I can t say it enough about how much I
miss the United States. Living in the trenches have been one of the most hardest time in my life.
Seeing all the dead bodies and see and the helpless has made me think about how lucky I am to be
alive and writing this letter to you. A lot of my friends that I was talking to this morning have been
killed or wounded. I can no longer see them and talk with them. It is a shame for all the people I know
who have sadly gotten killed. These people stood up and fought for their country. The weather here
has also been a pain to deal with. Having all the rain be collected into these trenches had made this
war a lot more hard. When I first saw

Tate Taylor has to figure out how to make the movie seems like the viewers are looking at the movie

type of character in the movie. I believe that Emma Stone have certain way of showing a leadership

Constantine s Edict Of Milan
Throughout history there have been moments that define the rest of time. Turning points or critical
moments in which one decision or creation forever changed the path of history. Such moments as
Constantine s Edict of Milan, Gutenberg s development of the printing press, and Martin Luther s
Ninety five Theses forever changed the landscape of Western Civilization. Who knows where Western
Civilization would be without these great hinges of history.
In 313 CE, Constantine passed the Edict of Milan. This edict declared the freedom of everyone in the
Roman Empire to choose their own religion. He neither made polytheism illegal nor did he make
Christianity the official religion of Rome. Instead, to placate both pagans and Christians, both were
acceptable to be practiced. This edict also stated that the emperor was protected by the highest
divinity, whether that was God, Jupiter or any other god in the Roman pantheon. Constantine
continued his work to bring pagans and Christians into peaceful coexistence. He gave the Christians
their property confiscated during Diocletian s Great Persecution, but he had the Roman treasury
reimburse the people who had bought the stolen goods. He also declared the Lord s Day to be called
Sunday in honor of the day the Christian s God rested and in honor of the sun, an aspect of pagan
worship. He even kept the traditional title of Pontifex Maximus or chief priest. After decades of
persecution the Christians finally had an emperor on their

Literary Analysis Of In The Lake Of The Woods
The Monster Inside the Man. No matter how well people think they are at keeping secrets, the truth
will always come out. In the book In the Lake of the Woods by Tim O Brien with John Wade is an
ambitious man who, since childhood, has been seeking acceptance and appreciation from others.
Many tragic events from his life are what shaped him and what led him to great heights to achieve
this. Until he loses his wife Kathy is when he realizes that the only acceptance and appreciation that he
needed was from her. O Brien s creation of John s character demonstrates the way the revelation of an
abhorrent secret can make one a monster in the eyes of many despite attempts to prove otherwise. As a
child, John Wade lived with his mother and father. His father was a charming and outgoing man. He
was the kind of person people liked to be around. I wish he was my father , (O Brien 67) a kid from
John s class said once. However, people did not know John s father the way he did. Mr. Wade was an
alcoholic, and all little John wanted from him was his rarely shown affection. During his childhood
John was husky and very interested in magic. His father constantly teased him about it, which affected
John s self esteem. When Mr. Wade died, John s wish for his father to be more affectionate to him was

Meiji Japan Changes
Meiji Japan Political Changes
By Natalie Starkoff
Introduction
The Meiji Restoration, an important era in Japanese history, saw the abolition of the feudal system of
the Tokugawa period and political changes which contributed to the modernisation of Japan. The
political leaders in the late Tokugawa period with the main source of power were the shogun and
daimyo as the emperor was only a head figure. The new political system that was introduced in the
Meiji period had a great effect on Japan completely changing their way of living. This new system
was responsible for the development of Japan s infrastructure in areas such as railways, shipping and
technology.

The new government attempted to modernize and develop the country in an attempt to protect against
foreign domination; this is shown by the treaty ports of Yokohama and Kobe and the laws that applied
to foreigners in Japan (http://www.japanvisitor.com/). Middle of the nineteenth century, Japan s ruling
Shogunate was a weak, feudal order, unable to control all its own domains, much less defend the
nation against a threat from the Western powers (Afe.easia.columbia.edu). The Japanese were
convinced that modernization depended on putting an end to the feudal order; a group of middle
ranking samurai overthrew the military government of the Shogun. In 1871, the Meiji government
announced the abolition of feudalism as a form of government and all Japanese all Japanese were to
be loyal to the emperor. Central Government then divided Japan into 75 regions governed by centrally
appointed officials. On the 7th April 1868, Mutsuhito issued a declaration known as the Five Articles

reign, setting the legal stage for Japan s modernization and can be considered the first constitution of

Example Of Dehumanization In Colonial History
Dehumanization in History and Historical Fiction In the past, when slavery was common throughout
the colonies of America, the slaves were obviously not treated with the upmost respect. They were not
treated as people, but more as domesticated animals whose sole purpose was to serve their master. The
exact definition of dehumanization is to deprive someone of human traits or qualities. The television
series Roots focused on Kunta Kinte, a native African who was captured and sold into slavery.
Examples of dehumanization are shown throughout the series and how it effects Kunta, the other
enslaved Africans, and what role it played in the slave trade itself. The harsh dehumanization

No slave was respected or treated the same way as their masters were. For instance, Fiddler was a
slave of a particular high status but Mr. Reynolds still made him perform the same chores as the
others. He may have had better arrangements such as food from the actual kitchen and a bed to sleep
on, but he would never be and could never be thought of as someone on the same level of his master.
For enslaved women, the treatment was even worse. They were passed around and chosen by men as
if they were simply items in a store. Usually, if a man noticed an enslaved woman and took particular
interest in her, she would be delivered to him so he could do whatever he pleased with her (just as
someone would do if they found a certain product they liked). This act was extremely violating and
the fact that the woman had no choice in the matter and had to comply or face punishment made it
worse. These violations are emotionally damaging to the woman as shown by the grief and shame
expressed by a woman from Kunta s tribe when she tells him she is no longer a maiden of the
Mandinka . The enslaved people of the time were treated no better than a piece of meat. They were
stripped of their basic human rights and handled as if they were nothing more than

Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
From the arrival of Jurgis family to an America that was not what they expected, to the loss of all hope

the industries are severely exploited. Sinclair traveled to the stockyards in Chicago in order to observe
the conditions the workers lived and worked in. What he found was disturbing, disgusting, and

of the workers, published the story, and accurately called it The Jungle , since the chaos in

conditions of the workplace, and the products sold to the public.
Before the time of muckrakers and yellow journalists came along, the conditions held in workplaces
like Jurgis were disgusting and nauseating, but the public had no clue of any of this since this news
was not being shared with the public. In The Jungle , many secrets about the sanitation and work laws
conducted in the industries were kept secret from the public. Sinclair s character, Jurgis, provides an
excellent point of view as a worker having to make a living in these conditions. For example, Jurgis
points out that the livestock the businesses used for food production was unfit to be fed to human
beings, saying that the meat was old and crippled and diseased , steerly , or covered in boils , and of
course, company owners kept this from the public to continue sales and production (Sinclair 709). The

Essay on The Narrative Voice in Northanger Abbey by Jane...
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen expresses the powerful narrative voice. The narrative voice that she
uses is different from other novels. Most authors try to hide their presence in their novels but Jane
Austen does not try to hide her presence. Her presence in the novel is so clear. For example, The
advantages of natural folly in a beautiful girl have been already set forth by the capital pen of sister
author, and her treatment of the subject I will only add (Austen 81). She tries not to trick her reader as
he/she reads the novel. Instead she informs the reader that the book itself is just a novel. Her purpose
is not to convince the reader and correct her story, but to understand the imperfection of language
because language does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is telling him her version of the story, which then filtered through Lockwood s perspective. Nelly
is undependable narrator because she keeps important information about other characters and events.
Lockwood is also not a dependable narrator because he does not fully understands the circumstance
and might be misinterprets the stories that are told by Nelly.
In Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte uses Mr. Lockwood to show that language is not enough to tell
the truth and understand the other person. When Mr. Lockwood greets Heathcliff on their first
encounter, Lockwood misjudges Heathcliff. He writes, Mr. Heathcliff and I are such a suitable pair to
divide the desolation between us (Bronte 1). Also he describes Heathcliff as a capital fellow (Bronte
1).
Bronte illustrates that the truth can be manipulated rather than fixed. And it can be manipulated by
depending on who is telling the story. She points out that language is manipulated by unreliable people
like Lockwood and Nelly. Jane Austen tries to make the reader doubt her stories so that they do not act
like Catherine how she makes mistakes about people and cannot distinguish between fiction and real
life. On the other hand, Bronte tries to make the reader to find and understand the various truths and
makes the reader doubt in both written and spoken words. Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen and
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte analyze the language that fails to

Whitbread World Sailboat Race Essay
University of Phoenix Terry Norris January 20, 2008 Project Plan for Whitbread World Sailboat Race
This paper analyzes the Whitbread World Sailboat Race case scenario presented in chapter 9 in the
Gray and Larson text, Project Management: the Managerial Process. The Whitbread World Sailboat
Race is a nine month round the world race. Bjorn Ericksen has been chosen by his country to head up
the project of getting a boat and a team ready for the race. The objectives of the project are to design,
build and test a new vessel and select and train a crew capable of winning the race. The objectives
must be completed within 45 weeks, the start of the race, and with a planned budget of $3.2 million.
Initial projections show that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

in 42 weeks, however, the budget would skyrocket to $4.952 million. Therefore, the team will need to

crashed while maintaining the integrity of the budget and the duration of the project. Plan to Reduce
Project Duration Initial projections show that the current schedule will take 50 weeks to finish with a
final budget estimate of $3.152 million. Although the project estimate comes in under budget, the time
frame for completion extends beyond the acceptable 45 weeks. Before deciding which activities
should be crashed, Bjorn and his team first need to have a clear understanding of the project s
priorities. To do this the team has first defined the project s scope and decided to develop a project
priority matrix. Defining the project scope sets the stage for developing a plan and its primary purpose
is to define as clearly as possible the deliverables and to focus project plans (Gray Larson, 2005). The
team has stated the project s objectives, defined deliverables, established milestones and technical
requirements, which help define the project s scope and establish priorities. With the imposed
deadline, completion of the project on time should be the project s top priority and thus becomes the

Patrick Bateman s Borderline Personality Disorder In...
Based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, the 2000 movie, American Psycho, is a young but classic film
to horror and gore enthusiast. I chose this film because it is one of the most disturbingly shocking, yet
nonchalant, movies that I ever seen. The main character, Patrick Bateman, is a successful businessman
living in New York City who has a wonderful life. Although he seems perfectly normal, he has a
darker side which he hides from his close friends and family. This darker side is, in part, a result of his
borderline personality disorder.
The presence of Patrick s borderline personality disorder was never openly discussed in the film,
although many of the traits were clearly displayed through Patrick s words and actions. To support
this,
Patrick never openly shows his disorder to his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

behavior and helps to diagnose his character in the film.
In the film, there is a scene where Patrick and a coworker go into a stall and snort cocaine while at a

the body. Several scenes in the movie depict Patrick having sexual relations with various women,
which can be related back to pages 212 through 215. These pages in the text discuss sexual
motivation, behavior, and orientation. Lastly, Patrick often shows a lack of emotion and interest in life.
This characteristic is displayed all throughout the film and plays a huge role in describing the
character.

Essay on Understanding Tay-Sachs Disease
Introduction
When presented with this assignment, Tay Sachs disease was one of the first choices that came to
mind since it is one of many diseases associated with Ashkenazi Jews (Jews of Eastern European
descent). Tay Sachs is a deadly heritable disease caused by the absence or mutation of Hex A, an
enzyme that breaks down complex fats called gangliosides found in nervous tissue. Without Hex A,
there is a buildup of gangliosides in the cells of the brain, causing major damage to the cells (
Learning About Tay Sachs Disease ). Tay Sachs is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, which
means that both parents must be a carrier of the diseased allele for the children to be at risk. The

Within a year of the examination, two of the three children died. A few years later, one of the children
s parents brought a newly born sibling with the same symptoms to Tay s clinic; leading Tay to believe
whatever the disorder was, quite possibly was hereditary (Cowan 133).
Around the same time as Tay s discovery, a young physician in New York named Bernard Sachs
examined a baby girl with very similar symptoms. Sachs reported that since the first time the child had
been examined, she never attempted any voluntary movements nor did it seem as if there were any
signs of increasing mental development. In addition, by this time, she was completely blind. The child
died just before her second birthday and her parents sent her body to Sachs for postmortem
examination. It was during this examination that Dr. Sachs saw that the cerebrum was abnormal and
took a sample of tissue taken from the cerebral cortex. This too Sachs found to be profoundly
abnormal in appearance. Dr. Sachs also noticed a detritus like buildup in the cell walls (Cowan 133
135). Sachs continued to examine children with the same symptoms and postmortem results over the
next decade. He also began reading similar case reports including that of Tay s in medical literature.
In 1896, Sachs gave the newly discovered disease a name: amaurotic family idiocy. Over the next
decade, researchers learned more

Memory Recollection
Neuroscience has been a foundational topic and one that is interesting to explore. We as human beings
are so complicated that we can t really tell why we are even conscious! In fact, there is a multitude of
research on how the brain is neurologically connected to mind and behavior. As someone who
preserves about seven hours of sleep, I feel that sleep is vital for living organisms to function in their
daily activities. However, I stumbled upon an article that discusses the importance of taking a rest.
While people have the impression that sleep will attribute to a healthier mind and body, many wouldn
t recognize the importance of rest in conjunction of storing information. In fact, resting for a few
minutes can improve memory recollection rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article doesn t go into depth the details of the research, but I believe in a connection between
relaxation and performance. In our world, people who are stressed with anxiety normally don t
perform as well as people who don t feel tension. Moreover, the article talks about overstimulation of
the brain and how that could cause memory problems. Regardless, I am not too worried about the
abstraction of neurons, but I am more refined in seeing that there are experimental studies that proved
the very relationship of rest and memory. For example, Michaela Deware, a principle investigator at
the Heriot Watt University, led an experiment in 2012. Her team investigated the results between those
who had a ten minute rest and those who didn t. The team found out that in comparison to those who
haven t, people who took the ten minute rest remembered ten percent more on a story they heard last
week. These volunteers who took the initiative to sleep were placed in an empty, quiet room that was
free from distractions. After a refinery on the matter of sleep, what surprised me most about the article
is that resting could actually help insomniacs or people diagnosed with amnesia; they ll be able to
relax and retain memory a lot more

A General Overview Of Alzheimer s
General Overview of Alzheimer s
Alzheimers was first named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer. In 1906, Dr. Alzheimer first noticed changes in
the brain tissue of a woman who had died of an unusual mental disease. He saw dramatic shrinkage
and abnormal deposits in and around nerve cells.
Alzheimer s affects the brain.
Alzheimer s causes degeneration of brain tissue and nerve cells. With less nerve cells present, it
becomes harder for the brain to communicate with the body and function properly.
Alzheimer s has two main types: Early onset and late onset. Early onset is rare and affects ages
younger than 65. Early onset also affects 5% of the population. Late onset is the most common and
occurs in ages 65 and older.

The Pros And Cons Of Genetic Engineering And Animal Cloning

Genetic engineering/animal cloning A genetically engineered animal is one that contains altered
genetic material to give the animal new traits or characteristics. There are many animals that have
been genetically modified for example, mice, pigs, cows and sheep are just a few of the animals they
experiment on. Most genetic engineering is directed toward providing more benefits to our society
which can be ethically contentious. In reproductive cloning (animal cloning) researchers remove a
mature skin cell from the animal that they want to copy then, they transfer it into a egg that has
removed its DNA containing nucleus. The clones are superior breeding animals that will produce
healthier offspring. There is both upsides and downsides to genetic engineering and animal cloning. In
the United States animal cloning is regulated by the FDA or, Food and Drug Administration and for
the most part is not considered to be illegal. There are also close to no laws regulating genetic
engineering in animals in the United States. The FDA says that it is just as safe to eat a cloned animal
as it is to eat an animal that was conventionally bred. Cloning does not modify or manipulate an
animals genetics or DNA, it is an exact copy of the animal. Then the cloned animal is used to help
livestock breeders with the reproduction of their most productive livestock and create healthier
offspring. Our society benefits from animal cloning because, it is

Asynchronous Transfer Mode for Transmitting Information Essay
ATM is called Asynchronous Transfer Mode. ATM is a networking technology which transmits
information in the form fixed cells. The main vision behind designing ATM was integration of
services and performance requirements of both telephony and data networking which was shortly
called Broadband Integrated Service Vision (B ISDN). This cell relay protocol was designed by ATM
forum and was universally adopted by ITU T. Usually the size of the fixed cells is about 53 bytes with
5 bytes for header and 48 bytes payload. When compared to the cell sizes used in the previous
technologies, the size of an ATM is small. The smaller size of the ATM cells gives us a major
advantage. ATM enables us to transmit video, audio and data over the same network ... Show more

This should be done without any degradation in the performance or without requiring any
replacement. 3. The design must be implemented in a less expensive method. In case the ATM
becomes the backbone of the international communications the cost of implementing it should not be a
major barrier. 4. The proposed system must ensure accurate and predictable delivery. This is possible
only if ATM is a Connection Oriented system. 5. The major objective of ATM was to move most of
the functionalities to the hardware side and have comparatively less functionalities in the software.
This will ensure higher speed in the delivery of packets. It is clear from the above points that the
major goal of ATM was to ensure guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). To ensure this various service
classes were defined by the ATM forum like Constant Bit Rate, Real time Variable Bit Rate, Non Real
time Variable Bit Rate, Unspecified Bit Rate, Available Bit Rate. ARCHITECTURE OF ATM

interfaces which acts as a backbone to the whole architecture of ATM. The first is Network to Network

One of the world s most important wars happened in medieval time, known as the Hundred Year s war.
The Hundred Year s war was a war between England and France, which started as a conflict between

Solving Multi Criteria Decision Making Problems
There are several methods to solve multi criteria decision making problems. Analytic Hierarchy
Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are two methods created by Tomas Saaty. AHP
endeavor to solve the decision making problem by formed it in a hierarchy while ANP is used when
the problem is so complex that cannot be formed as a hierarchy. This complexity happens because of
the effect of criteria between each other or the effect of alternatives on criteria. Generally we can say
The Analytic Network Process is a generalization of the Analytic Hierarchy Process. The ANP

Step 1: Model construction and problem structuring: The problem should be stated clearly and
decomposed into a rational system like a network
Step 2: Pairwise comparisons and priority vectors: In ANP, like AHP, pairs of decision elements at
each cluster are compared with respect to their importance towards their control criteria. Furthermore,
interdependencies among criteria of a cluster must also be treated pairwise; thus the influence of each
element on other elements can be represented by an eigenvector. The relative importance values are
determined with Saaty s nine scales.
Step 3: Supermatrix structure: the Supermatrix concept is similar to the Markov chain process. To
obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are
entered in the appropriate columns of a matrix. As a result, a supermatrix is

The Day Of An Ox Essay
Ian, my father s deep voice shouted out across the steppe. I need you over here. I couldn t run through
all the various animals we had, so I sprinted around the menagerie. Half way across, I heard the
laborious bay of an ox. It s probably giving birth, I thought to myself. Just as I rounded the herd, I saw
my father and cousin, who was more a like another brother, besides what it looked to be an ox giving
birth. Who knew, right? As I walked over to the scene, my dad waved me over impatiently. I moved at
a faster pace, but it was a wary pace. I m always nervous about birth and knew that it was a painful,
yet rewarding process. How bad is it, I asked. it is bloody? Of course it is, pothoc, my cousin, Gresh,
said annoyed. Like I said, another brother. Well, I didn t know. They re sometimes not that bad, I
replied oblivious to his annoyance. Exactly, which is why you re going to pull this calf out, Dad said.
What. He said it like it nothing new. Excuse me, I don t think I heard you right. I m pulling that out of
that, I said aghast as I pointed at the hindquarters of the ox. Yes, now get on your knees and get your
hands in there, Dad replied. besides, you haven t done it yet and your seventeen summers in now. You
ll have to do this when I m dead and gone, now get to it. So you re saying that I have to stick my
hands in its tzarreth, if I were the ox, I wouldn t want somebody sticking there hands were they don t

Personal Narrative-Co-Capitalist
As I walked (stumbled is a more apt term) from the front door of my startup s office building to the
waiting group of equally stunned co workers, my thoughts were why did this happen? Just fifteen
minutes earlier, our CEO unceremoniously relieved us of our duties and a team of hired security.
Shock, dismay, fear, and a little anger coursed through my body. After all, this was my baby. I had
started and grown this biotech company with a close friend, three years prior, from nothing. We were
its founders. A feeling akin to being a parent. It was our idea brought to life in the form of hardware
and software. At that moment, staring blankly into the distant hills of Whiting Ranch and running past
events through my mind on fast forward, I knew I had to be smarter. Furthermore, each past event
melded together into a single narrative in my mind and a focused picture began to emerge from the
blurriness. My partner and I made a deal with the devil of Venture Capitalists. Naive and unaware, we
were easy prey for a silicon valley shark.
I have always had a creative side despite my rigid, small town upbringing on the prairies in Western
Canada. Notwithstanding this creativity, I chose the safe path of getting an Industrial Systems
Engineering degree with plans of getting a job at the local oil refinery and working eight to five, like

The wounds of my past attempts at a successful company having long since healed. The scars remain
and I am wiser for that. All things considered, almost thankful for the experience. As has happened
before in my life, a new catalyst burns within me. This one is driving me towards soaking up
everything I can from CSU Fullerton and its MBA program. Namely, equipping my professional
toolkit with more diverse tools than I now hold and achieving my ultimate goal of running a
successful company that improves

  • 2. What Does It Mean To Be A Girl It s a girl! Most parents fantasize about hearing those precious and promising words because soon a little girl will make its way into their life and she will be sweet, innocent, and pure. Nothing will hurt that child, but unfortunately those parents are blinded by the happiness of the moment and do not realize that the little girl will grow up and be worth less than her husband and she will be worth less in society. In Merriam Webster s Unabridged Dictionary the word girl means a female child from birth to adulthood, but in addition to this simple word there holds an immense amount of meaning. Four letters and that s all it takes for someone to roll their eyes and laugh because that word is linked to weakness, negativity, and obnoxious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a girl you are expected to break, but in reality girls have to pretend nothing will break them or they will again be judged by society. This tends to be the case because if a girl breaks it will just add fire to the sexist prejudices put upon them as a gender. In Serena Nanda s article Arranging a Marriage in India, she talks about her research in India, when a son s parents are looking for a wife for their son they have a very long list of expectations. She should be from the same caste system, pretty, not too intelligent, meshes with the family well, doesn t stray from home, nor does she gossip or call home a lot, and the most important thing is that she is pure before marriage. Though these expectations tend to look somewhat different in the U.S. they have the same ideas. A girl should be boxed in away from society and taking care of the children or perhaps being a good cook to put it into simpler terms because that is what society unfairly tells us a girl should be able to do. Serena also talks about how it is very important for a girl to protect the family name and in no way ever disgrace it. If that girl does disgrace the family (for example not staying pure) it is not uncommon for her brother or even cousin to murder her. Why is a family s expectations based on what a girl does? These unrealistic expectations push girls too far and cause us to think our worth is less because we cannot do it all, even though society thinks that s the least we could ... • 3. Anila Daulatzi Essay Examples The Muslim Professor being dragged off her flight, racially assaulted and then charged with no due cause is an example of prejudice leading to immoral actions. On Tuesday, October 3rd of this year, Anila Daulatzai, who teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art, boarded a Southwest flight in order to see her sick father. Before the flight s departure, she noticed two canines and informed a flight attendant of her acute allergy to dogs and then was then moved to the rear of the plane with no conflict. Nino Vs The Jewel Exchange Summary Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange The legal agenda in the case of Nino vs The Jewelry Exchange was that the defendant, Rajae Nino made allegations to his employer that he was being discriminated on the account of his gender and nationality. The primary stipulation to this case was that Nino had signed a contract that was unconscionable. The primary function of this agreement gave most of the power to The Jewelry Exchange. The Court of Appeals decided that the arbitration agreements did not favor their employee. The definition of unconscionable from Webster s Dictionary states, excessive, unreasonable . What is means for a contract to be unconscionable is that contractually, the contract is very one sided and extremely favors one party over another. The sixth amendment to the U.S constitution guarantees a defendant in a criminal prosecution the right to a speedy, public, and impartial trial by jury. During this process possible jurors receive a summons in the mall ordering them to appear in court at a specified time and date the people who are summoned comprise the venire (the prospective jurors for cases). Typical questions relate to whether prospective jurors know the defendant, the attorneys, or any of the witnesses, whether they have read or heard about the case in the media, and whether they have racial, nationality, or gender biases. Effective voir dire is getting the prospective jurors to tell the court or attorneys what they need to know. One person whom he always put down was Buddy, who eventually would become Syndrome. When he retired, it was hard for him to stop. This is similar to when a priest retires; he wants to stay involved in the Church. He used his super strength to help others. He also used his kind heart that we all have to save others. His talent was his super power. He used his gifts and talents to help the town against villains or mother nature. His calling to the world was to help and serve others. This is important. We need to listen to God s calling to us about what he wants us to do. I believe God wants me to help serve others just like he did but without the superpowers. Lenin s reason for writing State and Revolution was to explain his view on Karl Marx s reasoning for a state and views on what the proletariat, working class, should do during a revolution. The goal of a revolution such as this, a communist revolution, is to give the power to the working people, which is to say that Lenin, similar to Castro and Nkrumah, wants to be free from imperialism. Another is to Lenin s view on revolution is that it can only be achieved through nationality and unity.(Lenin, State and Revolution, page 22) The overthrow of bourgeois rule can be accomplished only by the proletariat, as the particular class, which, by the economic conditions of its existence, is being prepared for this work and is provided both with the opportunity and the power to perform it. Such moments as Constantine s Edict of Milan, Gutenberg s development of the printing press, and Martin Luther s Ninety five Theses forever changed the landscape of Western Civilization. Who knows where Western Civilization would be without these great hinges of history. In 313 CE, Constantine passed the Edict of Milan. This edict declared the freedom of everyone in the Roman Empire to choose their own religion. He neither made polytheism illegal nor did he make Christianity the official religion of Rome. Instead, to placate both pagans and Christians, both were acceptable to be practiced. This edict also stated that the emperor was protected by the highest divinity, whether that was God, Jupiter or any other god in the Roman pantheon. Constantine continued his work to bring pagans and Christians into peaceful coexistence. He gave the Christians their property confiscated during Diocletian s Great Persecution, but he had the Roman treasury reimburse the people who had bought the stolen goods. Although he seems perfectly normal, he has a darker side which he hides from his close friends and family. This darker side is, in part, a result of his borderline personality disorder. The presence of Patrick s borderline personality disorder was never openly discussed in the film, although many of the traits were clearly displayed through Patrick s words and actions. This information from the textbook clearly explains and supports Patrick s behavior and helps to diagnose his character in the film. In the film, there is a scene where Patrick and a coworker go into a stall and snort cocaine while at a party. This scene relates to pages 110 and 111 where the text talks about stimulants and their effects on the body. Several scenes in the movie depict Patrick having sexual relations with various women, which can be related back to pages 212 through 215. These pages in the text discuss sexual motivation, behavior, and orientation. Lastly, Patrick often shows a lack of emotion and interest in life. This characteristic is displayed all throughout the film and plays a huge role in describing the character. Essay on Understanding Tay-Sachs Disease Introduction When presented with this assignment, Tay Sachs disease was one of the first choices that came to mind since it is one of many diseases associated with Ashkenazi Jews (Jews of Eastern European descent). Tay Sachs is a deadly heritable disease caused by the absence or mutation of Hex A, an enzyme that breaks down complex fats called gangliosides found in nervous tissue. Without Hex A, there is a buildup of gangliosides in the cells of the brain, causing major damage to the cells ( Learning About Tay Sachs Disease ). A few years later, one of the children s parents brought a newly born sibling with the same symptoms to Tay s clinic; leading Tay to believe whatever the disorder was, quite possibly was hereditary (Cowan 133). Around the same time as Tay s discovery, a young physician in New York named Bernard Sachs examined a baby girl with very similar symptoms. Sachs reported that since the first time the child had been examined, she never attempted any voluntary movements nor did it seem as if there were any signs of increasing mental development. In addition, by this time, she was completely blind. The child died just before her second birthday and her parents sent her body to Sachs for postmortem examination. It was during this examination that Dr. Sachs saw that the cerebrum was abnormal and took a sample of tissue taken from the cerebral cortex. This too Sachs found to be profoundly abnormal in appearance. Dr. Sachs also noticed a detritus like buildup in the cell walls (Cowan 133 135). Sachs continued to examine children with the same symptoms and postmortem results over the next decade. He also began reading similar case reports including that of Tay s in medical literature. As someone who preserves about seven hours of sleep, I feel that sleep is vital for living organisms to function in their daily activities. Regardless, I am not too worried about the abstraction of neurons, but I am more refined in seeing that there are experimental studies that proved the very relationship of rest and memory. For example, Michaela Deware, a principle investigator at the Heriot Watt University, led an experiment in 2012. Her team investigated the results between those who had a ten minute rest and those who didn t. The team found out that in comparison to those who haven t, people who took the ten minute rest remembered ten percent more on a story they heard last week. The Pros And Cons Of Genetic Engineering And Animal Cloning Tasha Drinnen Zoology final 1st hr 12/13/17 Genetic engineering/animal cloning A genetically engineered animal is one that contains altered genetic material to give the animal new traits or characteristics. There are many animals that have been genetically modified for example, mice, pigs, cows and sheep are just a few of the animals they experiment on. Most genetic engineering is directed toward providing more benefits to our society which can be ethically contentious. In reproductive cloning (animal cloning) researchers remove a mature skin cell from the animal that they want to copy then, they transfer it into a egg that has removed its DNA containing nucleus. The clones are superior breeding animals that will produce healthier offspring. There is both upsides and downsides to genetic engineering and animal cloning. In the United States animal cloning is regulated by the FDA or, Food and Drug Administration and for the most part is not considered to be illegal. There are also close to no laws regulating genetic engineering in animals in the United States. The FDA says that it is just as safe to eat a cloned animal as it is to eat an animal that was conventionally bred. Cloning does not modify or manipulate an animals genetics or DNA, it is an exact copy of the animal. Then the cloned animal is used to help livestock breeders with the reproduction of their most productive livestock and create healthier offspring. The main vision behind designing ATM was integration of services and performance requirements of both telephony and data networking which was shortly called Broadband Integrated Service Vision (B ISDN). This cell relay protocol was designed by ATM forum and was universally adopted by ITU T. Usually the size of the fixed cells is about 53 bytes with 5 bytes for header and 48 bytes payload. This should be done without any degradation in the performance or without requiring any replacement. 3. The design must be implemented in a less expensive method. In case the ATM becomes the backbone of the international communications the cost of implementing it should not be a major barrier. 4. The proposed system must ensure accurate and predictable delivery. This is possible only if ATM is a Connection Oriented system. 5. The major objective of ATM was to move most of the functionalities to the hardware side and have comparatively less functionalities in the software. This will ensure higher speed in the delivery of packets. It is clear from the above points that the major goal of ATM was to ensure guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). • 43. Solving Multi Criteria Decision Making Problems There are several methods to solve multi criteria decision making problems. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are two methods created by Tomas Saaty. AHP endeavor to solve the decision making problem by formed it in a hierarchy while ANP is used when the problem is so complex that cannot be formed as a hierarchy. This complexity happens because of the effect of criteria between each other or the effect of alternatives on criteria. Generally we can say The Analytic Network Process is a generalization of the Analytic Hierarchy Process. The ANP approach can be comprises in to four steps [87]: Step 1: Model construction and problem structuring: The problem should be stated clearly and decomposed into a rational system like a network Step 2: Pairwise comparisons and priority vectors: In ANP, like AHP, pairs of decision elements at each cluster are compared with respect to their importance towards their control criteria. Furthermore, interdependencies among criteria of a cluster must also be treated pairwise; thus the influence of each element on other elements can be represented by an eigenvector. The relative importance values are determined with Saaty s nine scales. Step 3: Supermatrix structure: the Supermatrix concept is similar to the Markov chain process. To obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are entered in the appropriate columns of a matrix. As a result, a supermatrix is ...
