Essay On Media Censorship
Media is an important part of the life, as people like to know what is happening behind the door. It
considered as a fourth estate in the world because of power it cares, and plays a crucial role in shaping
a democracy depriving the public power its privacy like it used to. Just media alone can control the
social movement, its behavior, and mood. There are two major kinds of media: social responsible
media and free press. All kind of media aspires to be a free and constructive critic. However, the
censorship is presented in both of them with a difference that social responsible media is mostly
controlled by the government and free press mostly has a public censorship. During development,
media has undergone many changes. Its workers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

capacity to change the world around. Media, with originally positive intention, changed by human
consciousness with its weaknesses and vices soaking in it negative intention including lies. According
to Gladstone, it mostly happens after England required all kind of media to be approved by every
printed word before publication. Those who at the wheel afraid to lose their power and under the

In the Intertidal Zone
In the Intertidal Zone
Ever wonder what fascinating creatures there are in the Intertidal zone? Or what kinds of adaptations
they use? Almost all plants that are algae live in this incredible zone. Some other names for this
amazing zone are the High Tide Zone, Mid Tide Zone, and Low Tide Zone. The Intertidal Zone is also
called the shallow ocean zone, and has a lot of tide pools. This zone stretches from the surface to 660
feet, and you can find jellyfish, crabs, fish, and sea turtles. Adaptations are a species ability to change
to its surrounding to survive. Even though it is hard living in the harsh, Intertidal Zone, there are three
amazing organisms that survive these conditions using cool adaptations, and they are the purple sea
urchin, the starfish, and the jellyfish.
Although there are many fascinating animals that can call the Intertidal Zone home, the starfish, or sea
star, is one that really stands out. To begin, National Geographic reports, most sea stars also have the
remarkable ability to consume prey outside their bodies. Using tiny, suction cupped tube feet, they pry
open clams or oysters, and their sack like cardiac stomach emerges from their mouth and oozes inside
the shell. Swimming in the ocean, the stomach then envelops the prey to digest it, and finally
withdraws back into the body. Because the starfish needs many ways to eat while in the Intertidal
Zone, this is one example of a way that they can find food, because food is hard to find in the

Essay about The Essential Nature of Each Story in Beowulf...
Each story in Beowulf, when given more thought and analysis, would be viewed essential to the book
itself and the way the issues were seen by the readers. Without the considerations of why these stories
were told at their specific times, who narrated the story and to whom they were speaking, what the
events would be foretelling or referring back to, and how they applied to the present characters, one
would be able to grasp that they set up each possible event in Beowulf and allowed more
understanding in the reasons why each situation played out the way it did. Through out the Anglo
Saxon culture, oral tradition was kept to its highest regards. Considering the Anglo Saxons entire days
consisted of hard work, hearing stories was their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By beginning with this great, well respected, and well known king, it set one s expectations high for
the other kings that would be later introduced in the story. The expectations set before the reader show
what values were required from a good king. He would flourish later on as his powers waxed and his
worth was proved. In the end each clan ...had to yield to him and begin to pay tribute. (7 11) The great
kings didn t have to come from high statues, but had to prove themselves worthy of being men.
Because Shield s story was known very well, proven by this statement, We have heard of those princes
heroic campaigns (line 3), the narrator of Beowulf had no problem relating the tale of this famous
figure without using other characters to do it for him.
The narrator later revealed the backstory of Modthryth to show the comparison between Queen Hygd
and her. Here the qualities of a good queen were presented to set up the reader s expectation on what
to look for when a new female role was presented. A good queen as described by the narrator, was
selfless, pure, generous, kind and devoted to her king and country. Both Hygd and Wealtheow fit those
descriptions. Hygd had her mind...thoughtful and her manners sure. [She] behaved generously and
stinted nothing when she distributed bounty to the Geats. (1928 1931). At the celebration feast given
to Beowulf for slaying Grendel and the beast s mother, Wealtheow herself appeared, peace pledged

Aquinas Five Proofs
Alex Gay
Aaron Schultz
7/30/16
Critical Response: Aquinas Summa Theologiae The existence of a higher being or a god is a concept
that has endured for thousands of years. Religious teachings help people to cope with our own
mortality as well as teaching valuable moral codes. Yet for all of the effort and the distinct
establishment of religion, God is still an unknown entity and we have no way of knowing definitively
of his existence. St. Thomas Aquinas was one of the greatest religious thinkers of his time and he
created five proofs that he believes validate god s existence. Aquinas first proof is an argument of
motion. He believes that all motion is caused by a proceeding force. Because of this belief, he thinks
there can only be one possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In regards to motion, there is no way of every proving that God is the first mover and the unmoved.
Additionally, his argument contradicts itself because if nothing is capable of initiating motion, how is
it that God was able to begin motion. From a scientific perspective, this proof has been definitively
disproved due to the big bang theory. All energy and matter are derived from this mass singularity.
Because of this, the big bang theory for all intents and purposes would be the first mover. It is also
important to point out that if there is a problem with Aquinas proof of motion, there are inherently
issues with his causation proof which follows the same rationale of god being the initial source of
causation. If someone were to read this argument and try to counter this, they might argue that God
was the cause behind the Big Bang Theory and that his actions are what started the universe. The
belief that God is the perfect standard for which all things are compared also contradicts itself. If
everything that is measured as degrees such as beauty or goodness are measures comparative of god,
that would imply that God is also the most evil and the most cruel. If God is the sole creator and the
cause of all things, then he inherently contains all of the bad in this world. And since we are taught
that God is the embodiment of good and right, the idea that he is also bad would contradict many
facets of our

Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis
When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self sacrifice you may know that
your society is doomed (Rand). This was stated by Russian American novelist Ayn Rand; the extract
relates to the novel William Golding wrote called Lord of the Flies. Golding wrote about a group of
schoolboys trapped on an island from a plane crash. The boys had to figure out how to survive without
grownups. Trying to survive was difficult because they had to have common sense and order. They
lose those traits throughout the book which resulted in selfishness and corrupt behaviors.
Common sense is something we can all treasure as humans, though the boys in Golding s novel didn t
have much. One of the characters, Ralph, showed common sense through wanting to make shelters,
find food, and get saved. There s another thing. We can help them find us. If a ship comes near the
island they may notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire
(Golding 38). Ralph wanted to build that fire to let someone know where they were and that showed
common sense. On the other hand another character, Jack, showed he had a lack of discernment
towards what work should be done first: We want meat. Well, we haven t got any yet. And we want
shelters. Besides, the rest of your hunters came back hours ago. They ve been swimming (51). He also
let the others see doing whatever you want is more fun by not doing anything but hunting; he even
went as far as letting the fire

Daffodils By Wordsworth
INTRODUCTION:
The poem was written in the year 1802. It was first published in Poems in Two Volumes, in 1807. The
very starting line of the poem I wandered lonely as a cloud informs the poet s profound sentiments of
being left alone. It was actually the death of his brother John that led him to loneliness . We should
remind the readers that this poem was not a result of imagination. Dorothy, Wordsworth s sister
provides us an explanation of the occasion which inspired Wordsworth to produce this masterpiece:
When we were in the woods beyond Gowbarrow Park, we saw a few daffodils close to waterside.
Thus the poem is a result of actual visualization rather than imagery .
In English literature, Wordsworth and his friend, Samuel Taylor ... Show more content on

This presents an idea of seclusion. The idea of being alone is contradicted by the phrase crowd (line
3). This is actually the setting of the poem . As human form Wordsworth prefers seclusion but the
crowd of daffodils bewilders his senses. The feeling of ecstasy suddenly makes a dive.
This poem, obviously inspired by Wordsworth s stomping grounds, is well loved because of its simple
yet beautiful rhythms and rhymes, and its rather sentimental topic. The poem consists of four six line
stanzas, each of which follow an ababcc rhyme scheme and are written in iambic tetrameter, giving
the poem a subtle back and forth motion that recalls swaying daffodils.
By comparing himself to a cloud in the first line of the poem, the speaker signifies his close
identification with the nature that surrounds him. He also demonstrates this connection by
personifying the daffodils several times, even calling them a crowd as if they are a group of

The Effect of Substrate Concentration on the Rate of Reaction
Method I generally followed most of my plan for the experiments, but to improve accuracy and
reliability, I made one change. In my plan, I said that I was going to use 20cm³ of starch for each
experiment. However, in my actual experiment I used 40cm³ of starch. This is because I thought I
might not have had enough solution if I only used 20cm³ of starch. If this was the case, then I would
have to stop the experiment half way through, which would have prevented me from obtaining
accurate results. So for this reason, my results would be more accurate and reliable. For everything
else, I followed my original plan. To ensure the results were accurate, I made sure I accurately

The Philosophy Of Osteopathic Medicine
I shadowed multiple physicians from various specialties, as I worked to confirm my desire to become
a physician. Out of all of them, Dr. Brian Loveless, a family practice physician who utilizes
osteopathic manipulative medicine, stood out to me the most. My time shadowing him at The Patient
Care Center at Western University of Health Sciences exposed me to the philosophy of osteopathic
medicine. Using osteopathic manipulative treatment techniques like high velocity, low amplitude, he
was able to relieve patients of their pains or aches during the visit, without providing any medications.
It was these moments that taught me the effectiveness about the philosophy of osteopathic medicine.

Looking at the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck there is the clear comparison that this is a
print text, while the 1939 film version of the novel by Milestone is a visual text. There are many
things that need to be taken into consideration when analysing a visual text, these being the use of
camera angle, sound, lighting, editing and the mise en scène, whereas when looking at the print text
the use of description, dialogue, characterisation and imagery. The three scenes which are most

Candy looks helplessly saying it s hurt him after Carlson suggests shooting him because the ol dog jus
suffers hisself all the time . This suggests, just as clearly as the film, that the dog is important to him
and he doesn t want to lose him. This is also suggested when Candy says that he don t mind takin care
of him . Throughout the scene there is also the focus on the newspaper article as well as the main story
of Candys dog. This is a good technique used to build up tension because the audience wants to know
what s going to happen to the dog. Throughout this scene in the film there is still a clear focus on
Candy although the story of the newspaper article is going on around him. This causes an emotional
build up, along with the other characters that are placed in the camera shots who appear not to care
about Candy. The emotional build up is created in the novel with the description of Carlson who
continued to look down at the old dog as Candy watched him uneasily , this builds up tension between
the two characters even more so as the other characters present are unaware of this non verbal
communication until Carlson finally speaks. Once the conversation is over between the two and

Mackie s Theory Of Moral Skepticism
Moral skepticism is defined as the denial of objective moral standards is correct, and that morality
therefore lacks any real authority (Shafer Landau). The concept of objectivity plays a part in the
theory of moral standards. Objectivity is used in the sense that a subject exists without its perception,
and that one can come to the same conclusion as everyone else given the same sources/information.
An object is in existence despite of any opinions or matters, which is why this principle is closely
associated with being reality and truth. Philosopher Mackie has a specific opinion on the ethical
theory called subjectivism or moral skepticism that discusses the falsehood of moral claims. Mackie
developed the principle of subjectivism, which states that morals claims do not exist. There is nothing

Relativity is used to discuss that moral codes are diverse and differ from societies. This argument
starts with the view that moral opinions vary among many people. Since there is not a universal
agreement on values, then values can t be objective. He uses relativity in response to cultural
relativism and states that individuals and groups don t come to their values and reflect way of life;
people practice their way of life and then come to their values. Different morals come from different
ways of life instead of having different views on moral beliefs. With this being said, if objective
values aren t the reason for moral beliefs, then there is no reason to believe in ethical claims. The
argument of queerness can take form being metaphysical. The metaphysical concept states that if there
is such a thing of objective values, they wouldn t be like anything else. If these values were to exist,
they would be really queer and unusual. If objective values did occur, one would need a unique, moral

Butler s Gender Trouble
We tend to think of power as laws and the act of regulating behavior. In Butler s Gender Trouble she
talks about how power not only regulates but also forms who we are as individuals. For Foucault
power comes from knowledge which he discusses in The History of Sexuality. Foucault discusses the
concept of biopolitics, which links biological processes, such as the reproductive process which can be
be controlled via birth control, to economic or political power, for example when the government
controls what kind of birth control is legal and acceptable and economically they make millions of

Foucault states that this power comes from discourse of a subject. In The History of Sexuality he
focuses on the myth that sexual repression occurred during the Victorian era. He argues that in fact sex
was turned into discourse due to the occurrence of the confessional that took place in the Catholic
church. At this time the catholic churches made sex and sexual desires sinful and something that
needed to be told in confession in order for the individual to repent. Due to the need to confess people
were forced to think about their desires and after confessing the priest s judgement and language that
was used turned the individual desires into discourse. This time in history was the way to sexuality
becoming controlled. The information that was gained gave power to the priests to make these
individuals repent and feel sinful for having these desires. This phenomenon is not only seen in the

We are also able to say in which time period the actions take place.
As an indicator we are using the dance at the gym in Act I,Scene 4, where Tony and Maria first meet.

everything. It also appears as if he is more dominant than his parents possibly because they are, just

Both groups are struggling for survival in the streets and their social lives. Certain similarities can be

The Emergence Of The Taliban Essay
The beginnings of the Taliban can be tied back to the Soviet defeat in Afghanistan. The defeat of the
Soviet s was due to collaboration among various tribal leaders. The Soviet withdraw and the shift in
American foreign policy allowed the emergence of new rivalries and coalitions among different
Afghan groups, such as the non Pashtuns and Pashtuns, Sunnis v Shias, Ghilsais v Durranis and also
among the Pashtun tribes themselves. The Soviet withdrawal, ultimately, led to a civil war among
local warlords and created a vacuum of power for the Taliban to emerge. There are many variables for
why the Taliban emerged, such as: rape, lack of government, looting, warlords, the misery of Afghan
citizens, which all prompted the Taliban to disarm local populations and impose Sharia law. Mullah
Omar, the leader of the Taliban, looked at the rape and the murder of boys, specifically, as a primary
reason to form the Taliban (Akbar, 2015, pp.213 216). Thus it seems that the Taliban emerged as the
legitimate representative of Afghanistan in the 1990s. It also important to note that the rise of the
Taliban was not random but was also supported by Pakistan in 3 ways: first, through moral support,
second, through military support, and third, through it s recognizing the Taliban as the official
government in Afghanistan. The original Taliban were composed of former of Mujahedeen. They were
from rural Pashtun tribes from southern and southeastern Afghanistan. These tribes were friendly

transaction risk. Since the interest rates constantly rise and fall companies often fix their interest rates
on loans for long periods of time. As a result of this the company looses money if the interest rate falls
below their fixed rate during the period the loan is for. For example, in 1998 a company borrows
£2,000,000 for a 5 year period with fixed interest rate of 8% payable annually. Each year the company
then has to pay interest of £160,000. If the interest rate in 2000 falls to 6%, the company is still paying
8% interest, and will consequently loose £40,000 annually. Other types of interest rate risks are
translation risk and economic risk. Translation risk relates to fact that changes in the interest rates will
change the value of financial assets. If people expect the interest rate to increase, the

Fashion in Shakespeare s Time
Elizabethan Era (1558 1603)
Elizabethan Era Clothing
The Elizabethan era was an extraordinarily fashion era for both man and women, a time when
everything was changing from the fifteenth century simple dress to extravagant and dramatic styles
which we call Elizabethan fashion. At that time, new styles, modern yet unique fabrics, charm colors,
sharp design and glamor silhouette were evolving. Every layer and piece of Elizabethan outfit was
equally important, from the fancy dress to the smallest details. Definitely, the Elizabethan era was the
time of beauty and fascination. In fact, during the Elizabethan time clothing reflects mood, values and
the person s statue in the society. So fashion at that time was the primary indicator of one s social
statue and the differences in styling between upper class and lower class were noticeable and very
easy distinguished, in terms of fabric, colors, and design.
During the Elizabethan time period, in order to understand a person s life style including clothes, we
must first understand how the society at that time worked. The Elizabethan society was divided into
three classes, first upper class including nobles and royalty, second middle class or hard working class,
and finally lower class or peasants. The availability of fabrics, colors, and designs were extremely
limited for lower class compared to

Problems Of The Transcontinental Railroad

Transcontinental Railroad
Transcontinental is going across a continent, and transcontinental railroads are the means that are used
to go across continents from Eastern to the Western part of United States. The Union Pacific railroad
offered railroad transport from New York on the Atlantic Coast, all the way to California, on the
Pacific Coast of United States. The project of the railroad terminated in 1869, which was pioneered by
two companies, which were Union Pacific and Central Pacific, built the railroad from east and west,
and they met at Utah. Central Pacific laborers mainly consisted of the Chinese, while those in Union
Pacific were mainly Irish. Both companies gave their workers harsh working conditions. The railroad
made a major impact on transcontinental transportation but was faced by some dangers and
difficulties.
Overland route, which was previously referred to as Pacific railroad is 3500 miles long. The main
funder of the railroad was the US government through the offering of higher loans and bonds (Healey
460). Also, the government offered land grants for usage in the construction. 1830 was the first time
that a locomotive set off in the railroads, and that sparked the development of the rail network in the
country.
A bill was set, which was supposed to guide the construction of the railroad. Central Pacific Railroad
was supposed to start the construction in Sacramento and push towards the

Contemporary Theories Of The United States Government
The United States government is a democracy, a system of elected policymakers and an organized
government so that policy is created in favor to the people s wants and needs. Many like to categorize
this system of government off of its characteristics and patterns. Three theories have been grouped
into the three contemporary theories of democracy, where the United States fits into each in a different
way. Pluralism reflects the use of groups advocating for a single cause, while Hyperpluralism is
Pluralism that did not go correctly because groups are so strong that the government weakened itself.
In addition to pluralism and hyperpluralism, the Elite and Class Theory introduces the idea that a
government has an elite, wealthy ruler who runs the classes below it. These three contemporary
theories of democracy are all applicable to the United States government, but pluralism is the most
prominent out of these three theories because the United States is based off of political and advocate
groups that press for changes in policies with a balance that prevents the scales from tipping onto the
hyperpluralist side. The first of the three theories of democracy is pluralism, also referred to as the
Pluralist Theory. This emphasizes that politics is a race between many groups who desire to have their
policy enforced by the government. Unlike Hyperpluralism, Pluralism is based off of group efforts
that advocate for a similar cause that help the government improve itself through its

Improving Medication Communication And Medication
Improving Medication Communication People become ill every day and need medications to help
them fight whatever disease or infection they may be suffering from. Medications play such a vital
part in human lives today. Physicians are always coming up with new medications that they would like
to try for a certain illness. As patients get prescribed new medications they need to be taught the
purpose and the side effect of the drug. Communicating the purpose and side effects of drugs are vital
components for patient safety and also compliance. The need to educate patients about the
medications they are receiving is becoming more and more important. Patients may have no idea why
they are taking the medication that they are prescribed. When patients know why they are taking a
medication and what some of the side effects are to that medication they are able to keep themselves
safe. Patient safety related to medication communication is something that may be overlooked in
settings that prescribe medications. The more knowledgeable the patient is about the medications they
are taking the better they are to understand their specific disease process and improve their own safety.
A patient s understanding of his or her medications is vital to a satisfactory patient experience and it
also drives safety and quality (Improving Medication Communication with Ask 3/Teach 3, 2013).

Isaac Asimov I Robot Quotes
The book I, Robot is a fictional story written by Isaac Asimov. It was first published on December
2nd, 1950, but it is still a famous classic read today. In the following two paragraphs, I want to relate
two quotes from the novel to a personal connection as well as a text to text connection respectfully.
Let s start with the text to text connection. In the beginning of the novel where my first quotation is
found, we are introduced to Gloria, an innocent child, and Robbie the robot, who was Gloria s best
buddy and caregiver. During the beginning of the novel, Gloria was furious that her mother correlated
Robbie to a machine, as Gloria thought the contrary to her mother. She believed that he was a person
just like you and me and he was [her] friend (Asimov 28), and while robots are not human and are not
made of flesh and blood, Gloria believed that the robots are capable of feeling and interacting with
humans just as if humans were interacting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Black + White = Black by Lawrence Hill, Hill explains the segregation between Blacks and Whites
and how Whites didn t treat Blacks as people because of their colour. This is similar to how Gloria s
mother does not treat robots as humans, but rather as a nasty old machine (Asimov 28), and this shows
how Gloria s mother and Whites show no respect to the other species due to their own personal
judgments and beliefs, which are falsely created by themselves. Both represent isolation of a certain
species due to the mistrust, tension, and stereotypes they have between one another, and both show
that even though there is no valid reason as to why they should not trust one another, there is still
conflict between the Blacks and Whites nowadays in all parts of the world just like there is conflict
between Gloria s mother and the

Alice Munro Research Paper
Reading literature from around the world is one of the most important things people can do in school
and at home. It allows students to learn the truth about misconceptions they might have about other
places. Many of these stories can also teach students many other important lessons. Alice Munro is an
author who s stories can do both of these things for students. Alice Munro should be included in the
World Literature course. She should be included because her short story Day of the Butterfly teaches a
lesson that every student should learn about, she won a Nobel Prize in Literature because of her short
stories, and she based many of her stories on her own real life experiences.

These experiences were important for her and her short stories. When talking about her hometown,
she said, I am intoxicated by this particular landscape, at home with the brick houses, the falling down
barns, the trailer parks, burdensome old churches ( Alice Munro Biographical ). She based the setting
in many of her stories on her rural hometown in Ontario (Munro 33). Her living in Wingham, Ontario
also inspired her to write events in her short stories that were complex as ones in novels ( Alice Munro
Facts ). She says everybody has a role that others create for them in a small town (Munro 33). She
knows because of her experience from living in a rural area. She uses this to create realistic stories
including Day of the Butterfly. This idea is evident in the way the others treated Myra in Day of the
Butterfly. When Munro was in school, she came up with ideas for stories while she walked to there (
Alice Munro Biographical ). She says, I was eight, it was quite a walk, but I liked it ( Alice Munro

The Effects Of Religiosity And Culture On Adolescent Std...
Abstract According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 65 percent of teens have
had sex by the time they were seniors in high school . Under aged sex is a prevalent activity in today s
society; henceforth, starting this act from a younger age results in an increase in sexual partners over
one s lifespan, which, because of the nature of the activity, gives a greater risk of sexually transmitted
diseases. As a result, it is important to understand: adolescent STD rates, the factors that may
contribute to them and the possible preventable variables that could aid in alleviating the rate of
sexually transmitted diseases transmitted amongst adolescents. To further understand the effects of
religiosity and culture, this review of literature will discover the negative and positive correlations,
and the associations certain variables obtained to influence the adolescent STD rates. The possible
major factors that contribute to high adolescent STD rates are: adolescent relationships, sexual
violence, lack of sexual knowledge, and lack of parental guidance. However, religiosity and culture
plays both a positive and a negative preventive strategy in slowing down adolescent STD rates. To
further reduce rates of adolescent sexually transmitted diseases, more research is needed to measure
the effectiveness of the different types of religions and cultures. Introduction In 2012, The Centers of

An Concept Of A Learning Disability
Firstly, it is interesting the concept of a learning disability individuals think of immediately which is a
dysfunction of the human brain not quite working correctly. Learning disabilities unfortunately come
in all shapes and sizes; they do not end with human beings but can extend into an organization as well.
Organizational learning disabilities are flaws such as lack of communication or a bridge in the gap
which some type of operational system is not quite working properly. In addition, the thought of a
Fortune 500 company having a learning disability is hard to grasp because of the success that they
measure at. To be more specific Walmart is known to be the large corporation the world. According to
the Fortune 500 organization, Walmart was ranked number one for the largest and highest net worth
out of all corporations. But even the largest and the most successful companies have its flaws. After
all, how do organizations learn if mistakes do not occur? It is obvious when walking into a Walmart
store, regardless of the location, there seems to be a few concerning issues that involve both the
employees and the customers. Walmart leadership seem be lacking communication as they choose not
to hear the screaming cries of their very own employees. Because of Walmart s efforts to save money
by paying low salaries and under staffing their super stores it has led to poor employee satisfaction,
not to mention the unfavorable ratings are trickling down to its customers. This paper

Turkey Culture Essay
The culture of my country, Turkey, combines an extremely diverse, as well as, a heterogeneous set of
elements that have been derived from the various cultures of the Caucasian, Central Asian, Eastern
European and Eastern Mediterranean (West Asian) traditions. The majority of these traditions were
originally brought together by the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire is a multi ethnic and a multi
religious state. During the early years of the republic, the government invested a really large amount
of resources into fine arts such as architecture, paintings and sculpture. This was done as both a
process of modernization and of creating a cultural identity. Due to the different historical factors
defining the Turkish identity, the culture of Turkey combines clear efforts of modernization and
Westernization undertaken in varying degrees since the 1800 s, with a simultaneous desire to maintain
traditional religion, as well as, historical values. Turkish cuisine inherited its Ottoman heritage which
could also be described as a fusion and refinement of Armenian, Greek, Persian and Turkic cuisines.
Turkish cuisine also influenced these cuisines and other neighboring cuisines, as well as, Western
European cuisines. Ottomans fused various culinary traditions of their realm with influences from
Middle Eastern cuisines, along with traditional Turkic elements from Central Asia such as yogurt. The
Ottoman Empire created a vast variety of technical specialties. It can be observed that

Those that do not meet diagnostic criteria for depressive disorders but have subthreshold depression
can still experience considerable psychological suffering (Cuijpers, de Graaf, van Dorsselaer, 2004;
Rapaport et al., 2002), and harmful implications for quality of life (Goldney, Fisher, Grande, Taylor
2004; Gotlib, Lewinsohn, Seeley, 1995).
Subthreshold depression has been characterised as the presence of depressive symptoms occurring in
individuals who do not meet diagnostic criteria for Major Depressive Disorder or Dysthymic Disorder
(APA, 2000; Cuijpers Smit, 2004; Kessler, Zhao, Blazer, Swartz, 1997; Judd, Rapaport, Paulus,
Brown, 1994). Subthreshold depression can be defined as scoring above cut off scores on self rating
depression scales or meeting DSM IV TR criteria for Minor Depression (Cuijpers Smit, 2004).
Symptoms of subthreshold depression can impact on an individual s emotions (dysphoria and guilt),
cognitions (worry, self criticism, self blame), behaviours (withdrawal from social functioning,
anhedonia) and physical wellbeing (lethargy, changes in weight) (APA, 2000).

Society today often stereotypes people into groups by things such as age, gender, cultural background,

Robots And The Robot Robots
In the mid 1970 s second generation robots were introduced. As these robots became more advanced
they were equipped with internal sensors which gave them a major advantage over first generation
robots. This new technology gave them increased information about the world around them. Robots
use sensors to detect changes around them and to respond to their surroundings based on the
information they receive from certain sensors. There are many types of sensors that perform a variety
of tasks by transforming mechanical, heat, and light energies into electrical signals. The signals
produced by sensors communicate to the robot on how it should respond to different situations. This
gives the robot a higher sense of intelligence and adaptive skills by providing more information about
its environment. These skills allow the robot to change their manipulator location and the position of
its end effector so that it can work around obstructions in its work envelope. The robot s surroundings,
the precision needed, and what must be sensed all help decide what type of sensor must be used for
the robot. Depending on these credentials, robots could be equipped with light, optical, sound, or
temperature sensors. Light is a form of radiation that makes up a group of frequencies in the
electromagnetic spectrum that we can see. Robots can react to this form of radiation by using light
sensors. Light sensors respond to variations in light energy by applying many types of opto electronic

Great Elephant Ears
How to Grow Great Elephant Ears 2011 Edition
The elephant ear is a tropical plant that many people use to give their gardens a new, plush, and exotic
look over their neighbors. Why settle for the traditional roses when you can be the envy of all those
rose lovers. Growing to an average of 3 5 feet, the large leafy plant is named after its large green
leaves, which closely resemble the ears of an elephant. Being a tropical plant you will generally want
to plant elephant ears in the spring. It is the ideal season due to the amounts of sunlight and rainfall.
Things you will need: Elephant Ear Bulbs (The seed of the plant)

Plants that experience shock will result in yellow or shriveled up leaves. It s important not to over
fertilize during this period, and to keep the plant well watered. In the more severe cases, it is
recommended that you remove the affected leaves so that they can grow back on their own.
In conclusion, an elephant ear plant is a great addition to any garden, but they frequently fall prey to
problems to insects, root rot, and transplant shock. With a little caution and care, these problems can
be avoided entirely.
TIPS
As you can probably tell, when you plant elephant ear plants, they do require more work than many
other varieties of plants. However, the resulting slice of rainforest decoration that the plants will lend
your garden will be worth it.
Once autumn arrives, towards its end, you ll need to dig the plants back up and store them if you want
the bulbs to survive the winter. The best time to procure this plant is in the winter after the leaves have
died. At that point, you can dig up the ear bulbs and place them in an area that is cool and dark until
spring. Simply cover them with plenty of mulch to cover the possibilities of a cool spell ruining the
bulb.
Additionally, the soil should border on wet for these plants, meaning it should at least remain damp at
all times, but you don t allow the soil to get too wet. As previously stated, it is important to have a
proper drainage system. A mulching system will help the plants keep the moisture they need.

My Passion In My Life Of Theatre As A Theatre
They say we all find something in our lives that means something to us, that exposes who we truly are,
and once we find it, it lights a spark in us that cannot be contained; this thing, this idea it lights a fire
in us that refuses to sizzle down and die away with all the oxygen in the room. It creates a passion we
are obligated by ourselves to pursue and to me that passion is theatre. I cannot recall a time in my life
when theatre was not the most prominent thing in existence. I cannot recall a time when I told myself,
theatre is not for me or that this is all for none. It is my life, my calling, and my dream all in one.
People love to entertain me with thoughts of why I should not be pursuing this avenue of work, but I
somehow find ways float above it all. I know, as an actress, my limitations are great and I have
accepted those; however, I do not, at this point in my life, believe that theatric acting is my only
passion and career option. When I sit in a dark space with actors in front of me, conveying messages
of honesty and life, I find myself entranced by what is in front of me; it is almost refreshing. I find it
astonishing the amount of love, kindness, truth, and above all passion that pours out from a production
onto a stage when presented in front of an audience.
I chose casting as my career because of one aspect that sold me the most. I find it genuinely beautiful

The Late And Post Renaissance
The late and post renaissance was a time dominated by the Medici family, but many other Italian
families had their time in power. As the late renaissance ended and the post renaissance era started, the
Corsini family gained power and influence under the Medici. With banks in England, offices around
Europe, and palazzos in Italy, the family made fast and large steps toward gaining influence and
relevance in Italy. While they earned respect on the financial side, they also progressed on the
religious side, thus earning them nearly the same amount of power and influence as their Medici
counterparts. The Corsini family maintained their status during the Medici rule by developing a high
status on the financial and religious sides of life.

He was the first Medici to have served on the Florentine Board and he was also a de facto ruler of
Florence. Later in Cosimo s life, the next great Medici, Lorenzo, was born (Encyclopedia Britannica).
In 1449, Lorenzo Medici, or Lorenzo, the Magnificent was born. He would prove to be one of the
greatest Florentine and Medici rulers, as he was a patron of the arts and accomplished many feats for
the great city, this is what made him so popular with the citizens and this helped him to earn higher
status and respect for the family. He was also one of the most skilled politicians of the time, but sadly
for Florence and the Medicis, he fell ill and died at the young age of 43, This ended the highest period
of power for the family. (Encyclopedia Britannica).
The financial side of the Corsini family began in the later half of the 15th Century with a bank based
in England and helped them to develop a primary financial status to maintain stability under the
Medici. When Matteo Corsini originally created the family bank in London, it gave the Corsinis the
money to purchase and invest in land back in Tuscany (PrincipeCorsini.com), this act gained
preliminary power for the family in Italy. After Mateo had passed, Filippo Corsini ran the bank in
London as well as a branch of commercial desks across Europe. With the help of his son Bartolomeo,
he was also able to establish a successful postal service that could

Relationship Between Societies Of Today And The Environment
An interdisciplinary program presented is an investigation of the relationship between societies of
today and the environment they/we live in. In my focus particularly are societies of the Westernized
parts of the world. Their activities within, attitudes towards, values regarding and comprehensiveness
of the complexity of the environment they live and operate in. Consequently, my personal goal is to
gain a deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of human activity and alterations it does to the
environment. Equally, I also aim to understand how attitudes and values (towards the environment)
are passed from generations to generations. After successfully accomplishing studies, my goal is to
collaborate with the representatives of the younger generations to and promote awareness of their
deportment on the more global scale. Academically, my strategy is to pursue Individualized Major in
Environment and Society and to successfully accomplish Minor in Psychology withal. Environment
and Society as a traditional Major is offered at the University of California, Berkley and at the
University of Minnesota. To enhance the experience of the Individual Major, during the Junior and
Senior years at Emmanuel College, I aspire to attend Environmental Forum provided every spring by
Colleges of Fenway. As a capstone experience I foresee myself undergoing an internship in a locally
based Education Outreach Program2. On this matter, I would like to accentuate that driven by my
interest I am

Conflict And Art Analysis
Conflict and art: Renaissance to Modern day Conflicts have caused a considerable amount of damage
to the country s people and economy. However, conflict have also had a tremendous impact on art;
including the famous art pieces we know today. Conflict has especially impacted these three art
pieces: Gassed, The Third Of May 1808 and Awaken From The Unknowing. The Third of May 1808
was completed by Francisco Goya in 1814, greatly inspired by the Peninsular war. Gassed was
completed by John Singer Sargent in 1919, influenced by the first world war. Finally, the Civil Rights
movement guided Charles White to complete Awaken From the Unknowing in 1961. Conflicts have
influenced art throughout history; each particular art piece showed the emotion and feelings the author
had towards that specific conflict at the time. As I said before Gassed was completed by John Singer
Sargent in 1919. Gassed is an oil type painting with light colors and shades. The painting includes

It is another oil type painting that uses light and dark colors. The painting includes a person wearing
very light colored clothes, making him stand out, surrounded by a squad of soldiers holding him at
gunpoint. Everything seems to darken or shade as you go further from the original brightly colored
person. The painting shows the unnecessary force during the Peninsular war. As stated in the
introductory paragraph Awaken From the Unknowing was completed by Charles White in 1961. This
drawing is created with crayon and ink and only uses white and dark shades. The painting pretty much
just includes a young african american women with several papers lying in front of her. However, she
is in a position where she looks tired and stressed. Since the painting was created during the civil
rights movement I assume the author is trying to show struggles that african american people

  • 3. In the Intertidal Zone In the Intertidal Zone Ever wonder what fascinating creatures there are in the Intertidal zone? Or what kinds of adaptations they use? Almost all plants that are algae live in this incredible zone. Some other names for this amazing zone are the High Tide Zone, Mid Tide Zone, and Low Tide Zone. The Intertidal Zone is also called the shallow ocean zone, and has a lot of tide pools. This zone stretches from the surface to 660 feet, and you can find jellyfish, crabs, fish, and sea turtles. Adaptations are a species ability to change to its surrounding to survive. Even though it is hard living in the harsh, Intertidal Zone, there are three amazing organisms that survive these conditions using cool adaptations, and they are the purple sea urchin, the starfish, and the jellyfish. Although there are many fascinating animals that can call the Intertidal Zone home, the starfish, or sea star, is one that really stands out. To begin, National Geographic reports, most sea stars also have the remarkable ability to consume prey outside their bodies. Using tiny, suction cupped tube feet, they pry open clams or oysters, and their sack like cardiac stomach emerges from their mouth and oozes inside the shell. Swimming in the ocean, the stomach then envelops the prey to digest it, and finally withdraws back into the body. Because the starfish needs many ways to eat while in the Intertidal Zone, this is one example of a way that they can find food, because food is hard to find in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about The Essential Nature of Each Story in Beowulf... Each story in Beowulf, when given more thought and analysis, would be viewed essential to the book itself and the way the issues were seen by the readers. Without the considerations of why these stories were told at their specific times, who narrated the story and to whom they were speaking, what the events would be foretelling or referring back to, and how they applied to the present characters, one would be able to grasp that they set up each possible event in Beowulf and allowed more understanding in the reasons why each situation played out the way it did. Through out the Anglo Saxon culture, oral tradition was kept to its highest regards. Considering the Anglo Saxons entire days consisted of hard work, hearing stories was their ... • 5. Aquinas Five Proofs Alex Gay Aaron Schultz 7/30/16 Critical Response: Aquinas Summa Theologiae The existence of a higher being or a god is a concept that has endured for thousands of years. Religious teachings help people to cope with our own mortality as well as teaching valuable moral codes. Yet for all of the effort and the distinct establishment of religion, God is still an unknown entity and we have no way of knowing definitively of his existence. St. Thomas Aquinas was one of the greatest religious thinkers of his time and he created five proofs that he believes validate god s existence. Aquinas first proof is an argument of motion. He believes that all motion is caused by a proceeding force. Because of this belief, he thinks there can only be one possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In regards to motion, there is no way of every proving that God is the first mover and the unmoved. Additionally, his argument contradicts itself because if nothing is capable of initiating motion, how is it that God was able to begin motion. From a scientific perspective, this proof has been definitively disproved due to the big bang theory. All energy and matter are derived from this mass singularity. Because of this, the big bang theory for all intents and purposes would be the first mover. It is also important to point out that if there is a problem with Aquinas proof of motion, there are inherently issues with his causation proof which follows the same rationale of god being the initial source of causation. If someone were to read this argument and try to counter this, they might argue that God was the cause behind the Big Bang Theory and that his actions are what started the universe. The belief that God is the perfect standard for which all things are compared also contradicts itself. If everything that is measured as degrees such as beauty or goodness are measures comparative of god, that would imply that God is also the most evil and the most cruel. If God is the sole creator and the cause of all things, then he inherently contains all of the bad in this world. And since we are taught that God is the embodiment of good and right, the idea that he is also bad would contradict many facets of our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self sacrifice you may know that your society is doomed (Rand). This was stated by Russian American novelist Ayn Rand; the extract relates to the novel William Golding wrote called Lord of the Flies. Golding wrote about a group of schoolboys trapped on an island from a plane crash. The boys had to figure out how to survive without grownups. Trying to survive was difficult because they had to have common sense and order. They lose those traits throughout the book which resulted in selfishness and corrupt behaviors. Common sense is something we can all treasure as humans, though the boys in Golding s novel didn t have much. One of the characters, Ralph, showed common sense through wanting to make shelters, find food, and get saved. There s another thing. We can help them find us. If a ship comes near the island they may notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire (Golding 38). Ralph wanted to build that fire to let someone know where they were and that showed common sense. On the other hand another character, Jack, showed he had a lack of discernment towards what work should be done first: We want meat. Well, we haven t got any yet. And we want shelters. Besides, the rest of your hunters came back hours ago. They ve been swimming (51). He also let the others see doing whatever you want is more fun by not doing anything but hunting; he even went as far as letting the fire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Daffodils By Wordsworth INTRODUCTION: The poem was written in the year 1802. It was first published in Poems in Two Volumes, in 1807. The very starting line of the poem I wandered lonely as a cloud informs the poet s profound sentiments of being left alone. It was actually the death of his brother John that led him to loneliness . We should remind the readers that this poem was not a result of imagination. Dorothy, Wordsworth s sister provides us an explanation of the occasion which inspired Wordsworth to produce this masterpiece: When we were in the woods beyond Gowbarrow Park, we saw a few daffodils close to waterside. Thus the poem is a result of actual visualization rather than imagery . In English literature, Wordsworth and his friend, Samuel Taylor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This presents an idea of seclusion. The idea of being alone is contradicted by the phrase crowd (line 3). This is actually the setting of the poem . As human form Wordsworth prefers seclusion but the crowd of daffodils bewilders his senses. The feeling of ecstasy suddenly makes a dive. This poem, obviously inspired by Wordsworth s stomping grounds, is well loved because of its simple yet beautiful rhythms and rhymes, and its rather sentimental topic. The poem consists of four six line stanzas, each of which follow an ababcc rhyme scheme and are written in iambic tetrameter, giving the poem a subtle back and forth motion that recalls swaying daffodils. By comparing himself to a cloud in the first line of the poem, the speaker signifies his close identification with the nature that surrounds him. He also demonstrates this connection by personifying the daffodils several times, even calling them a crowd as if they are a group of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In my plan, I said that I was going to use 20cm³ of starch for each experiment. However, in my actual experiment I used 40cm³ of starch. This is because I thought I might not have had enough solution if I only used 20cm³ of starch. • 18. The Emergence Of The Taliban Essay The beginnings of the Taliban can be tied back to the Soviet defeat in Afghanistan. The defeat of the Soviet s was due to collaboration among various tribal leaders. The Soviet withdraw and the shift in American foreign policy allowed the emergence of new rivalries and coalitions among different Afghan groups, such as the non Pashtuns and Pashtuns, Sunnis v Shias, Ghilsais v Durranis and also among the Pashtun tribes themselves. The Soviet withdrawal, ultimately, led to a civil war among local warlords and created a vacuum of power for the Taliban to emerge. There are many variables for why the Taliban emerged, such as: rape, lack of government, looting, warlords, the misery of Afghan citizens, which all prompted the Taliban to disarm local populations and impose Sharia law. Mullah Omar, the leader of the Taliban, looked at the rape and the murder of boys, specifically, as a primary reason to form the Taliban (Akbar, 2015, pp.213 216). Thus it seems that the Taliban emerged as the legitimate representative of Afghanistan in the 1990s. It also important to note that the rise of the Taliban was not random but was also supported by Pakistan in 3 ways: first, through moral support, second, through military support, and third, through it s recognizing the Taliban as the official government in Afghanistan. Interest Rate Risk. Interest can be explained as the charge paid by a borrower for to lender for the use of a lender s money (Ritter 2000 p. 598). The interest rate is simply the percentage of the sum a borrower has to pay the lender on top of the sum which is being lent for an agreed period of time. For example, if a company borrows £100,000 from a bank at 8% interest rate with payment due in 12 months. By the end of the 12 months the company then has to pay the bank £108,000 (Appendix B, i). What types of interest rate risks do multinational companies face? One type of interest rate risks is the transaction risk. Since the interest rates constantly rise and fall companies often fix their interest rates on loans for long periods of time. As a result of this the company looses money if the interest rate falls below their fixed rate during the period the loan is for. For example, in 1998 a company borrows £2,000,000 for a 5 year period with fixed interest rate of 8% payable annually. Each year the company then has to pay interest of £160,000. If the interest rate in 2000 falls to 6%, the company is still paying 8% interest, and will consequently loose £40,000 annually. Other types of interest rate risks are translation risk and economic risk. Translation risk relates to fact that changes in the interest rates will change the value of financial assets. Fashion Of William Shakespeare s Time http://alharthisamah.wix.com/16thcenturyfashion Samah Alharthi English 206 Dr. Swanson 22 02 1016 Fashion in Shakespeare s Time Elizabethan Era (1558 1603) Elizabethan Era Clothing The Elizabethan era was an extraordinarily fashion era for both man and women, a time when everything was changing from the fifteenth century simple dress to extravagant and dramatic styles which we call Elizabethan fashion. At that time, new styles, modern yet unique fabrics, charm colors, sharp design and glamor silhouette were evolving. Every layer and piece of Elizabethan outfit was equally important, from the fancy dress to the smallest details. Definitely, the Elizabethan era was the time of beauty and fascination. In fact, during the Elizabethan time clothing reflects mood, values and the person s statue in the society. So fashion at that time was the primary indicator of one s social statue and the differences in styling between upper class and lower class were noticeable and very easy distinguished, in terms of fabric, colors, and design. During the Elizabethan time period, in order to understand a person s life style including clothes, we must first understand how the society at that time worked. The Elizabethan society was divided into three classes, first upper class including nobles and royalty, second middle class or hard working class, and finally lower class or peasants. The Union Pacific railroad offered railroad transport from New York on the Atlantic Coast, all the way to California, on the Pacific Coast of United States. The project of the railroad terminated in 1869, which was pioneered by two companies, which were Union Pacific and Central Pacific, built the railroad from east and west, and they met at Utah. Central Pacific laborers mainly consisted of the Chinese, while those in Union Pacific were mainly Irish. Both companies gave their workers harsh working conditions. The railroad made a major impact on transcontinental transportation but was faced by some dangers and difficulties. Overland route, which was previously referred to as Pacific railroad is 3500 miles long. The main funder of the railroad was the US government through the offering of higher loans and bonds (Healey 460). Also, the government offered land grants for usage in the construction. 1830 was the first time that a locomotive set off in the railroads, and that sparked the development of the rail network in the country. Contemporary Theories Of The United States Government The United States government is a democracy, a system of elected policymakers and an organized government so that policy is created in favor to the people s wants and needs. Many like to categorize this system of government off of its characteristics and patterns. Three theories have been grouped into the three contemporary theories of democracy, where the United States fits into each in a different way. Pluralism reflects the use of groups advocating for a single cause, while Hyperpluralism is Pluralism that did not go correctly because groups are so strong that the government weakened itself. In addition to pluralism and hyperpluralism, the Elite and Class Theory introduces the idea that a government has an elite, wealthy ruler who runs the classes below it. These three contemporary theories of democracy are all applicable to the United States government, but pluralism is the most prominent out of these three theories because the United States is based off of political and advocate groups that press for changes in policies with a balance that prevents the scales from tipping onto the hyperpluralist side. The first of the three theories of democracy is pluralism, also referred to as the Pluralist Theory. This emphasizes that politics is a race between many groups who desire to have their policy enforced by the government. Medications play such a vital part in human lives today. Physicians are always coming up with new medications that they would like to try for a certain illness. In the beginning of the novel where my first quotation is found, we are introduced to Gloria, an innocent child, and Robbie the robot, who was Gloria s best buddy and caregiver. Abstract According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 65 percent of teens have had sex by the time they were seniors in high school . Under aged sex is a prevalent activity in today s society; henceforth, starting this act from a younger age results in an increase in sexual partners over one s lifespan, which, because of the nature of the activity, gives a greater risk of sexually transmitted diseases. As a result, it is important to understand: adolescent STD rates, the factors that may contribute to them and the possible preventable variables that could aid in alleviating the rate of sexually transmitted diseases transmitted amongst adolescents. To further understand the effects of religiosity and culture, this review of literature will discover the negative and positive correlations, and the associations certain variables obtained to influence the adolescent STD rates. The possible major factors that contribute to high adolescent STD rates are: adolescent relationships, sexual violence, lack of sexual knowledge, and lack of parental guidance. However, religiosity and culture plays both a positive and a negative preventive strategy in slowing down adolescent STD rates. To further reduce rates of adolescent sexually transmitted diseases, more research is needed to measure the effectiveness of the different types of religions and cultures. As these robots became more advanced they were equipped with internal sensors which gave them a major advantage over first generation robots. This new technology gave them increased information about the world around them. Robots use sensors to detect changes around them and to respond to their surroundings based on the information they receive from certain sensors. There are many types of sensors that perform a variety of tasks by transforming mechanical, heat, and light energies into electrical signals. The signals produced by sensors communicate to the robot on how it should respond to different situations. This gives the robot a higher sense of intelligence and adaptive skills by providing more information about its environment. These skills allow the robot to change their manipulator location and the position of its end effector so that it can work around obstructions in its work envelope. The robot s surroundings, the precision needed, and what must be sensed all help decide what type of sensor must be used for the robot. Depending on these credentials, robots could be equipped with light, optical, sound, or temperature sensors.
