The Probation Officer And Offender Role
The Probation Officer and Offender role has been widely examined, specifically in regards to the
effective management of risk (McNeill, 2009, NOMS 2010). Within this, it is recognised that the
relationship between these individuals is paramount to the effective management of risk and offending
behaviour. There have been numerous working practices introduced throughout the years within the
Probation Service to identify effective working practices including the Effective Practice Principles
and latterly, Skills for Effective Engagement, Development and Supervision known by the acronym
SEEDS (Rex Hosking, 2013). Whilst these have greatly influenced the work being undertaken by
Probation practitioners, the management of risk of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
BP is unable to work as a result of injuries sustained to his left leg and hand through previous violent
acts. Additional to this, BP is an alcohol dependent individual who has been in relapse for
approximately 12 months. BP is subject to an Indeterminate Public Protection (IPP) life licence for the
offence of Wounding with Intent. This offence occurred in 2005, at a time when his alcohol
consumption as at its heaviest and was sofa surfing with associates he met as previous supported
accommodation sourced through the Salvation Army. The circumstances of the offence were that BP
and his associate had been drinking constantly throughout the day in the victim s flat and that an
argument broke out over the level of music being played by BP. Feeling aggrieved by this, BP asked
the victim to step outside for a fight. As a result of BP feeling ignored by the victim through the nil
response, BP took the knife that he was holding and lunged towards the victim stabbing him in the
neck before dragging the knife downwards on the neck. Subsequently, BP tried to stab the victim in
the chin before retreating and apologising. In reviewing BP s antecedents he has 28 convictions for 48
separate offences. Pertinent to the index offence are those committed in 1980 for section 47 assault,
breach of the peace numerous times between 1981 and 1995, possession of a bladed article in a public
place in 1997 and a further section 47 assault in 1998.

Reading Maketh A Full Man Conference A Ready Man Analysis
Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man and writing an exact man by Francis Bacon has
had different meaning to different people. The accumulation of reading, conference and writing are all
needed to create the perfect man. I believe the knowledge that one has acquired can empowered
person to do their best. One can only become a full man if he is able to read, but the aspect that
differentiates no longer being a child to being a full person is having the ability to learn. Not just
hearing instructions or following directions, but actually being able to understand and absorb the
information that is being given to them. Scudder and Shaler wanted to learn everything they could
about the fish by just looking at it. These students knew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ready man wants to express his opinion not because he is forced to but he is delighted when he is
able to speak about his topic. On the Douglass reading we were told about the slave who was trying to
set himself free by having a conversation with his master. The slave is a man with conference because
he is able to listen to his opponent while still being able to speak his truth. Before the slave was able to
make himself free he had to learn and become well informed about what was wrong with the things
his master was doing to him. When the conversation was over and the slave had expressed everything
he felt it resulted in the voluntarily emancipation of the slave by the master (Douglass). When the
slave and the master speak, all the slave had to do was speak his truth, but he had to do it effectively
so that the master is convinced by the slave s beliefs. The exact man is a strong writer who is able to
put on paper, and in proper writing, his own thoughts and opinions, and what he is most passionate
about. Feynman is one of the few man from the reading that sums up the writing and exact person who
fulfilled, all knowing, and is often seen as the ideal man. He was so passionate about his work it could
be seen by almost everyone; in fact, the head of the science department noticed that Feynman
[appeared] to . . . really [love] science . Feynman had so much dedication and enjoyment his course

The Seatbelt Law, By Thomas Hobbes, And Jean Jacques Rousseau
INTRODUCTION
Every day millions of people around the United States commute daily to work, and to run their
errands. In almost every state in the United States, wearing a seatbelt is required. Many people ask
why they should have to wear a seatbelt in their private vehicles, while others agree that everybody
definitely should wear their seatbelt. Should the government be able to create and enforce this laws
such as this one on the public? This paper will discuss the seatbelt law, the views of philosophers
Thomas Hobbes, and Jean Jacques Rousseau, and whether or not this law is ethical.
THOMAS HOBBES Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) was an English philosopher who is best known for
his work in political ethics. Hobbes had a pessimistic view of the human race, however his theory has
been used as a major influence on western political views. In 1651, Thomas Hobbes wrote Leviathan,
in which he states that life before government was violent, brutal, and barbaric. Hobbes continues on
to argue that civil peace and social unity are best achieved by the establishment of a commonwealth
through social contract. Leviathan consisted of four books: 1.) Of Man, 2.) Of Commonwealth, 3.) Of
a Christian Commonwealth, and 4.) Of the Kingdom of Darkness. The first book contains the
philosophical context, while the second book outlines the rights of the citizens within the
commonwealth. The third book argues against certain scriptures, and whether or not a person can
claim supernatural

The Fuel Of The Diesel Engine
The diesel engine has been the number one choice for power, reliable and high fuel economy
worldwide (Jääskeläinen, 2013). However, as petroleum becomes more and more expensive, the new
challenge that has been presented to todays society has been to find a sustainable way to continue
running these engines without relying on diminishing petrol supplies (Connolly, 2013). The world has
turned to biofuels; the use of biodiesel can produce power, performance and economy, along with
assisting in the reduction of emissions and Greenhouse gases. However, its widespread use has been
halted due to the ethical issues surrounding its production. The use of agricultural land for the use of
bio fuels, detriments the mass food crisis and insecurity that the world faces. Is it really ethical to be
using bio fuels to cut carbon emissions, which in turn could lead to millions of people in Asia starving
to death?
The inventor of the diesel engine, Dr. Rudolf Diesel, first conceptualised Biodiesel fuel in 1895. He
generated and demonstrated a diesel engine that used peanut oil as its main fuel source in 1900 at the
Paris World Exhibition, as he viewed using vegetable oil fuel as a means to provide economic growth
in remote areas of the world due to widely available agricultural crops as the source of the fuel (Diesel
Service and Supply, 2013). In Australia, the use of bio diesel in the transport industry has been under
much debate. Bio diesel is produced through a process knows as

Objective
This paper investigates the travel motivations of Chinese outbound tourists and how these are
expressed in the activities preferred by Chinese outbound tourists. The answers sought are therefore:
What characterizes the travel motivations of Chinese outbound tourists? How are the motivations
expressed in activities and actions? What are the implications for the future marketing of Odense
City?
To be able to attract Chinese tourists it is also necessary to look at what motivates Chinese tourists to
travel so that these motivations and through them the activities can be marketed by Odense City. 2
The research undertaken
The paper was supposed to be supported by an online survey among young Chinese on their
willingness to use the internet as a travel information source and vacation booking tool as well as a
short section on their knowledge of Denmark and their previous travel experience and their hope for
their future travels. However, the online survey was distributed via Facebook and Twitter, but the
Chinese government blocked the access to the internet at the time of data collection and only 9
respondents answered before access was cut off. This means that the survey results are not reliable and
cannot be used to illustrate and enlighten us on Chinese tourists internet usage and preferences.
Therefore the focus of the paper was changed to emphasize past studies of Chinese outbound tourists
and their travel motivations. Through this analysis

Vanity Exposed in Vanity Fair Essay
Vanity Exposed in Vanity Fair
The title Thackeray chose for his novel Vanity Fair is taken from The Pilgrim´s Progress by John
Bunyan. In Bunyan´s book, one of the places Christian passes through on his pilgrimage to the
Celestial City is Vanity Fair, where it is possible to buy all sorts of vanities. A very sad thing happens
there: the allegorical person Faithful is killed by the people. In the novel Vanity Fair Thackeray writes
about the title he has chosen: But my kind reader will please to remember that this history has Vanity
Fair for a title, and that Vanity Fair is a very vain, wicked, foolish place, full of all sorts of humbugs
and falsenesses and pretensions (98). The choice of title is appopriate, because in his ... Show more

She is well aware of the sort of person she is: I´m no angel (11). As soon as she is out of school she
starts scheming to find a husband above her station, since her ambition is to advance in society.
Having failed to win the hand of Joseph Sedley, she marries Rawdon Crawley, thinking he will inherit
a lot of money from his aunt. Instead they both fall out of favour, and Becky has to use her wits.
Throughout the novel she is the one who charms people, and who is held in high esteem by the upper
class in which she yearns to belong . The word vanity suits Becky well; she seems to care for no one,
not even her friends, and she neglects her own son. A very hard judgement is passed on her by Lady
Jane: She has deceived her husband, as she has deceived everybody; her soul is black with vanity,
worldliness, and all sorts of crime (752). When Rawdon leaves her it becomes harder for her to retain
her reputation. When she notices that people avoid her she works hard to be regarded as respectable.
She is not used to a life where she is not surrounded by admirers, and she is bored. She makes Joseph
Sedley listen to her lamentations on how she has been trampled on. He believes her and is made very
unhappy. Becky is suspected of being responsible for his death. Becky´s life is full of scandal, and all
her scheming and striving for wealth and honour come to nothing: she has struggled in vain. Her
vanity has resulted in her ruin.

Metaphors In Sidney s Sonnet 31
Sonnet 31 is an attempt to capture the sorrow and desolation experienced in heartache, through the
focal symbol of the poem, the moon. This acts as a metaphor for the narrator s deteriorated mental
state, evoking sympathy in the reader. Sidney s sonnet offers us an insight into the narrator s anguish,
brought into the reader s mind through his choice of form, rhyme and meter. Sonnet 31 forms a part of
Sidney s collection Astrophil and Stella, a sequence of 108 sonnets and 11 songs, telling the story of
the narrator Astrophil, chasing after his unrequited lover Stella. It has been said the sonnet sequence is
partly autobiographical; many believe it is based upon Sidney s own feelings for Lady Penelope Rich.
The name Astrophil translates to star crossed lover and Stella means star, the continuation of this
theme provides a route for all the sonnets to follow, Sonnet 31 being no exception as the reader
witnesses our narrator finding solace in the moon.
As a reader we become instantly aware of the metaphorical qualities the moon holds. The poem begins
With how sad steps, Oh Moon, thou climb st the skies, the pathetic fallacy here giving direction to the
rest of the poem. The notion of the moon coming up signifies a transition from day to night, light to
dark, perhaps revealing the movement of Astrophil s mental state, from one of peace to one of
frustration and confusion. Sad steps (l.1) further exposes this idea as the personification of the moon
becomes noticeable.

Gender, Social, And Social Sciences And Humanities
gender role is a theoretical construct in the social sciences and humanities that refers to a set of social
and behavioral norms that, within a specific culture, are widely considered to be socially appropriate
for individuals of a specific sex. Socially accepted gender roles differ widely between different
cultures.
Sex is what we are categorized based on our reproductive organs; female or male. Sex is pretty so
concrete, for the most part, unless you are born with some rare genetic sex chromosomal disorder.
Gender, it, well can be harder to determine. Gender is merely the state of being male or female. Like
with the states of water, the state of being male or female, can be manipulated or changed. With each
gender comes certain gender roles. These roles are to help accentuate one s sex to society. Gender
roles have been around for centuries. The greatest thing we notice, when it comes to gender roles, is
how much they vary from culture to culture.
Since marriage constitutes slavery for women, it is clear that the women s movement must concentrate
on attacking this institution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage.

The Relationship Between Visual And Verbal Elements
From the beginning there are comparisons, pro and cons, communication channel and important role
about the visual elements. Next would be the relationship visual and verbal elements. The relationship
between the visual and verbal element is a complete mutual. Verbal elements in advertising are very
important when we want people to recognize the product and associate it with good attributes. In other
words, verbal elements may get the most attention getting and memorable to decide and implement in
advertising. The image and text are potentially equal contributors to meaning, even though the specific
examples might give emphasis to one or the other modality. Visual and verbal information may
contain structural and functional elements (MacInnis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stakes for evolving cross modal meaning as a rhetorical move are quite high, because language
alone is not always enough to communicate shared understanding. These personal connections can
support engagement with the text because they help the reader establish a known context for that
engagement. But when an audience does not have the experience to imagine, or when an idea has not
enough features that imagining can fail to present a basic problem with language, as the carrier of
thought, surfaces. That s why the cross modal meaning might be more rhetorically useful. On top of
that, Müller Brockmann, the father of the grid, championed this idea. He believed that typography and
grid elements should present content in a neutral fashion (as cited in Susan M.hagan 2007). The
typographic interplay, on the other hand, identifies the meaning potential between typographic shape
and text. This is because typographic interplay emerges when the characterized by tie, the blend
interacts with the perceptual tie. Also, shared location results in the tightest relationship between text
and image. Blends and shared location might seem to be nearly the same meaning as another in the

National Parks And The National Park
The National Park Service is one of the most widely recognized American foundations. There are over
58 National Parks in the United States. Among some of the more famous are The Grand Canyon
National Park, Yosemite National Park, and Glacier National Park. During the World Conference for
National Parks, John F. Kennedy said these famous words about our National Parks, National parks
and reserves are an integral aspect of intelligent use of natural resources. It is the course of wisdom to
set aside an ample portion of our natural resources as national parks and reserves, thus ensuring that
future generations may know the majesty of the earth as we know it today. After looking at the history
of the National Park Service, the first National Park, the largest National Park, and the most visited
National Park, people can begin to understand how National Parks are symbols of our freedom and
help preserve our culture for future generations.
The history of the national park is very important to understanding the importance of them. The idea if
a national park is largely credited to George Catlin. He traveled to North and South Dakota in 1832,
where he began to see the impact of the American Expansion on the Indians, the wilderness, and the
wildlife. On this trip he penned these words, By some great protecting policy of government... in a
magnificent park.... A nation s park, containing man and beast, in all the wild and freshness of their
nature s beauty! Catlin wished to

Trojan War Essay
In the book The Trojan War, by Bernard Evslin, Ulysses and Agamemnon both contribute to the Greek
s victory. Many considered Ulysses to be the real brains behind the Greek forces. Although
Agamemnon was the leader of the Greeks, many would say he was not a good one. Even though
Agamemnon did some good deeds during the war, many of his actions caused problems, and Ulysses
often had to come to his rescue.
With Ulysses on the Greeks side they had amazing intelligence and bravery. Many great things
happened because of Ulysses leadership. One example is when Ulysses dressed as a peddler, found
where Achilles was hiding, and brought him back to fight in the war. Ulysses knew he had to ... Show

His stupidity and arrogance made him unfit for leadership. An example of him being selfish is when
he sacrificed his own daughter, Iphegehia, to the gods so he would have good luck and a safe journey
to and from Troy. When Agamemnon returned home from the war his wife killed him for sacrificing
their lovely daughter. A time showing Agamemnon as ignorant was when he almost lost all of the
troops. He told them it was time to leave the war and head home. He was only trying to weed out the
cowards, but it turned out everyone ran for the ships. Thirdly, he refused to give back Cressida, his
slave girl, when he was supposed to. As a result, Apollo shot arrows of pestilence at the Greeks. Many
Greeks ended up being killed. Lastly, he was selfish and took Achilles slave girl when his had to be
returned. He said, It is my duty to take someone else s slave to repay me for the loss of the lovely
Cressida, for a king deprived is a half a king, and half a king means defeat in warfare (p 29).
As you can see Ulysses is a brave, smart man who helped lead the Greeks to a tremendous victory. On
the other hand, Agamemnon caused suffering and pain for not only individuals but for all the men
fighting. Some believe that if the Greek troops had not been led by Agamemnon the war would not
have lasted as long. Maybe that statement would be true, maybe not, but we

In James McBride s The Color of Water, James talks about his school life and his mom s school life.
Both school lives were different and similar. To start off, both James and Ruth were the minority in
their own school. Even though Ruth was white, or light skinned, she was Jewish and that s what made
her different because most kids in her school were not jewish. Since she was the minority, it was easy
for kids to point that out and bully them for that. For example, one kid told Ruth, Hey Ruth, when did
you start being a dirty Jew? James was also the minority and bullied at school. He went to a Jewish
school which mostly consisted of light skinned people and since he was darker, kids took notice. One
time, they were learning about Black

Physicians, nurses, specialists, and other qualified medical personnel are provided to care for and treat
many patients each day. Unfortunately, the number of patients exceeds the available medical personnel
and appointment slots. Another problem for patients is the availability of service to the tribal area.
Many Indians live in remote areas and do not possess the ability to seek medical attention because of
lack of transportation resources. This is a major problem for many Native Americans, as many patients
will not seek medical treatment and services until it becomes a medical emergency. For example,
many obstetric patients will only receive two or three prenatal visits, or many patients will remain ill
or only seek treatment after the illness has progressed to a more serious condition. Aronovitz, (2005).

The Importance Of Body Art
First of all, body art can promote the self awareness of people, which means one focuses attention on
himself and understands personal features, feelings and behaviors. Body art has a strong impact on
human vision and soul, because it can always catch the human nature and embodies the publicity of
human nature (Greif, J., Hewitt, 1999). In fact, the body is the most primitive and natural expression
of human beings, and the art of body is an external form of expression, taking the human nature as its
main feature. Since the body art reflects the nature of human body, it enables us to see the truest and
the most essential things in human society. As Hagel said, the body of human is the inner life of the
spirit . The word spirit is a realm yearns for truth, wisdom, cognition, beauty and love, which never
changes or fades. Therefore, on the one hand, body art raises individual conscious. This in turn 3
makes people think about themselves more deeply; understand both themselves and the development
of human nature more clearly. Undoubtedly, human society is able to make a progress by deepening
the understanding of human beings. On the other hand, body art awakens our appreciation of beauty
and the greatness of our creator. Other than showing the external beauty of the human body, body art,
indeed serves as an artistic appreciation. Modern artists borrow the body language to worship,
appreciate the natural life of youth, sing the praises of love and the pursuit of freedom

Compare And Contrast Beowulf And Anglo Saxon Literature
The Anglo Saxon literatures were written very similar that they all shared common themes. One of
them was the character qualities which the writers of Anglo Saxon Literatures each liked to
incorporate similarly in their work. The story would have fictional characters appear in the story, and
the characters showed their qualities through description, dialogue and action. Sometimes the story
does not have fictional characters; instead the writer appeared as the character of the story and
developed his qualities through their expression of feelings and desires. The Anglo Saxon literatures
such as Caedmon s Hymn , The Dream of the Rood , Beowulf, Judith , The Wanderer and The Wife s
Lament will be compared to show how writers had similar ideas relating to character qualities. The
first character quality the Anglo Saxon characters show was their faith toward Christianity. Since
religion was one of the most important identity during the Anglo Saxon era, most of the writers
exposed their writing to religion so that there was a common interest between the writing and the
readers. In Caedmon s Hymn , Caedmon wrote his song that he sang while he was sleeping. His entire
poem was about him praising God; in line 1 5 of Caedmon s Hymn he praised God of his creations, in
line 6 17 Caedmon listed His creation of mankind, heaven, earth and protectors of mankind, and in the
last line he closed his poem by praising His name. In The Dream of the Rood the man who was

Hudson River School Dance Analysis
I did an interpretive dance for my reflections project. To go along with my movement I chose three
songs that represented each of the artists, authors, and composers. To represent The Hudson River
School I used the song Ordinary Miracle (Charlotte s Web, 1980). I used this song because the song
describes environment as beautiful and perfect just like the painting from The Hudson River School.
In the dance I tried to be very graceful and as perfect as possible by not making my movement choppy
to represent how there were no harsh lines or obvious imperfections in the paintings from The Hudson
River School. The Hudson River School paintings were like this because they saw America as
beautiful and perfect and at the time there were no harsh conflicts.

Potassium Hexacyanoferrate Lab Report
Why Potassium Hexacyanoferrate (III)
I chose to write this paper on potassium Hexacyanoferrate(III) because its inorganic chemical formula
is almost seem similar to Prussiate blue. Prussiate Blue exhibits interesting structural characteristics
and properties. My aim is to explore if potassium Hexacyanoferrate (III) exhibit the similar properties
and characteristics as prussiate blue.
Introduction
The Potassium Hexacyanoferrate (III) is one of the common salts of the ferricyanide. Its chemical
structure is K3[Fe(CN)6], and its common name is potassium ferricyanide.1The coordination complex
is also known under names such as red prussiate of potash, or red potassium prussiate. Potassium
ferricyanide appears as a bright red soluble crystalline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, ferricyanide is toxic with LD50 value equal to 6400 mg/kg.4 Potassium ferricyanide salt
has been isolated as ruby red crystals and is photosensitive.5 Potassium ferricyanide has the ability to
react with metallic silver to produce silver ferrocyanide, which is used in photography processes.5
Since potassium hexacyanoferrate(III) is a cyanide, it reacts explosively with sodium nitrite and
oxidizes ammonia explosively. Acids, in particular strong acids react with potassium ferricyanide to
form ferricyanic acid, which decomposes to form toxic hydrogen cyanide. Additional physical
characteristics of potassium fericyanide are that it is water soluble and can also exist as crystals as
well as in powder form, and decomposes when heated.5 Its vapor pressure at 200 C is negligible and it
is one of the most stable cyanide complexes.7Potassium ferricyanide is poorly oxidized by active
chlorine, ozone, and potassium permangante.7 Its maximum allowable concentration is 1.25 mg/L and
the oxidation of potassium ferricyanide at pH 7 11 proceeds as

Essay about Portrayal of Jane Osborne in Vanity Fair
The Redundant Woman
Thackeray s portrayal of Jane Osborne in Vanity Fair is very troubling to the reader of the twentieth
century. Grown to be a woman who is stuck under her tyrannical father s roof, her life appears to be
very confining and menial. Her sister snubs her, her nephew mocks her behind her back, her father
mocks her to her face, and her main role in life seems to be as her father s housekeeper. However,
Thackeray s portrayal would have had a very different effect on the Victorian reader. While all of these
things which affronted us would have been equally awful to them, Thackeray uses another key phrase
which has lost its effect on our modern minds: that unfortunate and now middle aged young lady

women, 8.9 per cent of the adult female population were surviving without a husband in the mid

25 (Parkinson). When this destiny was denied, the fate of a redundant woman was very grim.
Fate
An unmarried woman was generally left in an untenable situation. Especially for the middle class, a
redundant woman was often a disastrous curse, where just a few years before she had been a dubious
commodity. Unmarried women, as we have seen in Thackeray, were often governesses. A governess,
however, was the subject of much social controversy, even spawning a whole literary trend, the
governess novel, which although nice to read was not nice as a character reference. Miss Firkins was
the archetypal redundant woman of Vanity Fair; her lot in life was that of a parasitic lady in waiting,
and temporary, after which she was to be shuffled between country relatives. Beyond these there were
few options. For the talented, writing was becoming a viable living, though certainly not at all the easy
life for which Victorian women were raised.

Postmodernism Or The Cultural Logic Of Late Capitalism...
Fredric Jameson is admired as a standout amongst the most imperative and persuasive artistic and
social pundit and theoretician in the Marxist convention of the English speaking world. In his work
Postmodernism or the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism Jameson endeavors to portray the way of
social creation in the second half of the twentieth century, the period of late capitalism, and to
recognize it from different manifestations of social generation of going before capitalist periods. A
generous part of Jameson s Postmodernism or the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism is committed to
differential investigation of masterpieces and building design from what Jameson terms high
innovation and postmodern works. He describes the postmodern mode of generation as a social
prevailing in the wake of ideas like depthlessness or the concealment of depth, the fading of influence
and pastiche, terms which as per Jameson identify with the postmodern type of production and
experience.
The idea of postmodernism quickly raises the issue of periodization, involved by the prefix post doled
out to the time of modernism. What was the starting point of modernism and when did it end? Is it
safe to say that it is conceivable to define clear boundaries between modernism and postmodernism?
Jameson accepts that it is conceivable to discuss social modes with in a characterized course of events.
In any case, he limits his periodization of postmodernism to the unbinding idea of social

Contributions And Durkheim On Suicide
Émile Durkheim on suicide.
Émile Durkheim was a French sociologist, social psychologist and philosopher. Durkheim had an
important impact on the development of sociology. Durkheim s studies into suicide helped me in
understanding it as an issue in contemporary society. His most significant contribution was his work
defining suicide in social terms rather than individual terms. He was interested in how suicide might
be influenced more by social context and have a broader interpretation beyond the
individual.Durkheim wanted to prove that social situations, characteristics, activities, interactions etc,
influence and control individual and person behavior rather than the other way around. Durkheim
wrote a book called Le Suicide in 1897. This was a groundbreaking book in the field of sociology. In
this book Durkheim explores the differing suicide rates that are among society. In the book Durkheim
also distinguishes between four different types of suicide making is easier to understand. He talks
about the different rates of suicides and how they differ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and his work is greatly admired. Durkheim s research and hypotheses have helped my understanding
of suicide in social terms and has helped me in seeing the different types of suicide and the different
rates. His work has shown me not only look at suicide from an individual point of view but to look at

Pros And Cons Of Virtue Ethics

Ethics in Public Private Life

Flaws of Aristotelian Virtue Ethics
When most think of philosophy a list of people come to mind. You have your greats such as Plato,
Nietzsche, and of course Aristotle. However, this does not mean that their ideas cannot be challenged
and questioned, as no one is above criticism. Aristotelian Virtue Ethics have a major flaw that strikes
at the heart of the idea. There is a severe lack of guidance both in what a virtue is, and what happens
when they conflict. The mains question is, is one virtue more important than another?
What is Aristotle s virtue ethics theory exactly? Aristotle was one of the first to describe this type of
theory and he based it largely on Eudaimonism. Eudaimonism bases virtues in human flourishing,
where flourishing is equated with performing one s distinctive function well (Virtue Ethics). For
humans, Aristotle believed that our main function is reasoning and to live well we would need to
reason well. The largest part of virtue ethics is the titular virtues that decide whether or not a person
was truly flourishing or not.
To first create an argument over the conflict of virtues one must first understand what makes a virtue a
virtue. In Aristotelian Virtue Ethics, a virtue is described as something a virtuous person does. In turn,
a virtuous person is someone who does virtuous acts. This is where a big issue arises in this theory.

The Responsibility Of Dorm Directors
One of the number one priorities here at the college is to ensure that we are providing our students
with a safe and secure environment that is conducive for learning. At an institution that provides
Residence Halls for students, it is important to remember that the safety measures extended to those
residence halls also. According to Sokolow (2004), there are three questions that a risk manager has to
address when assessing risks, can the risk can be avoided, can the risk be transferred, or if the risk can
be accepted (p. 90). The purpose of this audit is to identify the policies and practices that are in place
that could potentially be a legal liability for the institution. In order to conduct this risk assessment, we
will utilize the three category assessment: low risk bring searches, moderate risk of personal property,
and high risk of mental health awareness and violence (Sokolow, 2004, p. 88)
Searches
Part of the responsibility of Dorm Directors is to report any illegal activity that may occur on the
premises. A possible infraction may result in a dorm director or campus police performing a search of
the room. There have been numerous complaints from students that there have been illegal searchers
of their rooms. In some of these instances, the students were not present, and those who were present
stated that they did not grant permission for officers to search. The issue with this is that in order for
searches to occur, we have to ensure that they are

J.R.R. Tolkien s novel the hobbit is an epic fantasy tale full of Elves, Dwarfs, Wizards, and the forces

Miriam Webster architypes are recurrent symbols in literature, art, or mythology. Some such major
architypes in the hobbit is the communion like dinner at the beginning of the tale, Bilbo s transition

of the many portrayed, that show the writing depth and knowledge in J.R.R. Tolkien s novel the

Chemistry Involved in Electric Vehicles
What is the chemistry involved in electric vehicles?
Electrical cars have been around since the 1800s.The first practical electric car was designed by
Thomas Parker in London. The vehicles popularity continued into the 20th century, until the
technology of combustible engines advanced and the mass production of gas vehicles. In 2008 the
electric car appeared once again because the advances in the battery and power technology, upward
prices of oil and emissions. The electrical car originally used a lead acid based battery, today however
the lithium ion rechargeable battery is used. The battery of the electric car stores chemical energy and
converts the energy to electricity. The chemistry of the electric car is found mainly in the battery. In
the battery there is a chemical reaction in cells which then produces a voltage. These batteries usually
have 200 to 400 small cells. The cells are combined to create a powerful battery. The risk is that if one
cell overcharge it causes a thermal reaction. The development electronic controls for this risk are in
process but are expensive. Khalil Amine and Zonghai Chen of the Argonne National Laboratory
discovered a molecule base of boron and fluorine added to each cell controls the charging of the
battery cells. The molecule is said to be less costly and more reliable than the electric control.
(MANDEL, 2009) In the 1800s the lead acid based battery was invented and used in electrical cars.

Blue Zone Culture
The biggest difference between the Blue Zones and the Rest of America is their culture. In these areas,
individuals tend to be naturally more active and eat healthier. In all three areas, they eat a mainly plant
based diet in combination with other fresh, healthy foods like whole wheat bread, nuts, beans, and
cheese full of Omega 3 fatty acids. These communities also find natural ways to keep them active
walking wherever they go, gardening, bike riding and most importantly finding ways to stay active if
they choose to retire. These cultures also tend to have a social system that finds pride in their elders,
so aging adults are surrounded with family and friends. They also pride taking time to relax and
destress reducing stress hormones like cortisol. From the Blue Zone type of behaviors, I try to be
active. With class and work, I do not always get to get out from the desk, but I go to the gym four or

Shinto And Daoism Similarities
East Asian culture brought to us three distinct and enlightening religions, Daoism, Confucianism, and
Shinto. These religions are all very different and unique they have very unique ties that bind. Daoism
and Confucianism were both brought into fruition during the Shang dynasty around 1600 to 1046 BCE
in China (1) while Shinto is an ancient religion to which we do not have a defined date of conception.
The most forward similarities Daoism, Confucianism, and Shinto share are State Cult, and ancestor
worship (although Shinto practices ancestor veneration (2)). Now let s take a more in depth look at
these unique and wonderful East Asian religions!
First Daoism! Daoism is a Chinese based religion that was formed during the Shang dynasty
somewhere in the years of 1600 1046 BCE. Daoism is the way of nature and morality (3). Daoism has
an outward appearance of harmony with nature, peace and being carefree but this simple life religion
is deeply rooted in a tradition of great mental and physical disciple. (3) Daoism is mystically religious
and it has been said that we cannot describe the Dao, we can live in harmony with it...Humans model
themselves on earth, Earth on heaven, Heaven on the way, And the way on that which is naturally so.
(4) One of the unique features of Daoism is the paradox of wu wei or actionless action, spontaneous,
creative activity proceeding from Dao, action without ego assertion, letting the Dao take its course, (5)
wu wei effectively encompasses a life

For what reason should a poet need $1500 to write a one word poem? If the private sector was at the

In this paper I intend to show that the motives for the criminalization of marijuana was not for the
public good, but were inspired by bigotry and fear, and potentially for political and monetary gains.
This paper will also show that contemporary arguments for the continued criminalization of marijuana
are based on skewed studies rather than factual information and that regulation, taxation and
responsible use are the solutions to satisfying the demands of both sides of the issue. Finally, this
paper will examine the constitutionality of marijuana criminalization and whether it should be

One can draw parallels between the prohibition of alcohol and the criminalization of marijuana to see
the logic behind this premise. Prohibition was championed by groups such as the Anti Saloon League
who felt that alcohol was a blight on society and spoke out against its evil effects. Prohibition was
intended to curtail crime, yet crime increased in association with the manufacture, transport and sale
of illegal alcohol and led to the birth of organized crime syndicates here in America. Prohibition did
not thwart the public s use of alcohol; it only managed to drive its consumers underground. These
scenarios are all similar to what we see today in connection with the criminalization of marijuana.
Apart from the psychotropic aspects of marijuana, there is no dispute that it has industrial uses. Hemp
was being used in the manufacturing of rope well into the 20th century. A point could be made that
there were political and financial benefits to banning the cultivation of hemp in order to create a
demand for nylon, a new synthetic material that was being developed by DuPont, a company owned
by the affluent du Pont family. Currying favor with a family such as this obviously could reap certain
rewards politically and monetarily and this fact could have been yet another motivation to criminalize

Integrated Cirriculum Research Paper
Integrated curriculums are constantly becoming more popular with educators each and every day. It
seems that with this increased enthusiasm there should also be an increased activity of integration
taking place within the classroom. This, however, does not seem to be the case. Math and Science
integration has been widely talked about and supported by educators young and old, but critics state
that there is little evidence to show the effectiveness of integration in the classroom.
The reasons for the integration of subjects in the classroom are many and easily understood.

However, in the midst of this rush to support an integrated curriculum, many educators question the
effectiveness of an integrated curriculum, and they also question the lack of research supporting
integration over traditional curriculum. (Czerniak, 1999)
It seems that a definition for the term integration cannot be easily agreed upon. (Huntley, 1999) In fact
there are so many different terms for integration that it s easy to see why many would question its
effectiveness. The terms include interdisciplinary, thematic, nested, transdisciplinary, integrated,
connected, sequenced, shared, webbed, threaded, immersed, networked, blended, unified, coordinated,
fused, teamed and multidisciplinary. This can only indicate the lack of coherence regarding what is
meant by science and math integration. (Judson 2000) Within these different terms you will also most
likely find different meanings for different educators. Without a clear focused definition we cannot
have a basis for designing, carrying out, and interpreting the results of research. (Czerniak, 1999)
Even if we can get by this lack of definition and see math and science integration at work in the
classroom we might see some of the disadvantages of integration that critics are talking about. One
example is research showing how integration and thematic instruction in math and science is quite
restricting because concepts included are narrowed to a specific framework.

Mongol Trial
In this trial we witnessed how the Mongol empire affected the lives of people in Eurasia. As a jury
member of the trail of Genghis Khan, I have decided that the mongols were civilized due to the
religious tolerance, advancements and stimulation of trade.
There was a common theme on the prosecuting side of lack of religious tolerance from the mongols,
but the witness testimonies were circumstantial to a specific region or rule. It is inevitable for soldiers
and generals to force people to join their own religion, but that does not take away from the overall
religious tolerance of the mongols and their predecessors talked about. There was Buddhist and

The philosopher also spoke of Genghis Khan s building of colleges and buildings to support the
collaboration of ideas and thought this would improve the rate of advancements. The ability for the
mongol to effectively build infrastructure and gather philosophers proves the civility of their empire.
The last major point of the defence was the stimulation of trade caused by the mongols. A merchant
talked about the increase of trade in Eurasia. There was an undeniable influx of trade in Asia that was
directly caused by the mongol rule, this was caused by the mongols reopening or revitalizing of the
silk trade routes and the spending of the major mongolian wealth to increase trade through western
Europe and Asia. The revitalizing of trade is evidence that the mongols were civilized to properly
improve the trade routes and protection on the trade routes.
The prosecution also had a good point on the mongolian viciousness and unrelenting destruction of
cities and the murder of the innocent civilians does play a role the mongols being uncivilized. But

Global Warming And Its Effects On The Planet Essay
As Albert Einstein said Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better . It can
be hard, but not impossible to understand more about this ever changing universe. Without a doubt,
our planet as we know was not the same a century ago and it will not be the same a decade from now.
Due to this perpetual evolution of our planet s natural cycles, its inhabitants are forced to choose
between adaption or extinction. Meanwhile, an invasive species, or humans, has started a chain of
disasters that are accelerating global changes and, in extension, the crucial selection of existence. Over
the years, the field of natural science has increased human knowledge regarding our negative impact
on the planet. Despite this, humans have taken minimal action towards addressing the problem that,
considered a myth by some, is global warming. Many of us take our planet for granted, not realizing
that, in of its own, it consist of one huge ecosystem relying on all of its parts to function properly.
Because of this interdependence, action must be taken to minimize and raise awareness of global
warming on the arctic region and its resulting effects on ecosystems around the world. Occurring on
the entire planet, global warming affects individual regions at different intensity levels. Places covered
in snow, like the Arctic, are being disturbed by the rising temperature, resulting in a decrease of ice
and an increase of liquid water. To illustrate the immensity of this matter,

Other Sister was released in 1999, by Touchstone Pictures. It was directed by Garry Marshall, and
featured Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi. The Other Sister is a heart warming and humorous movie
about two young adult s journey to find their independence. It also happens to feature two main
characters that have intellectual disabilities.
The Other Sister is a movie about a young woman, Carla Tate, who has an intellectual disability. The
movie begins with Carla s father, Radley, picking her up from a boarding school for children with
special needs. Although Radley is excited to see Carla, she seems indifferent towards him. Before
leaving she gives her doctor a long hug, showing that Carla forms strong emotional bonds. Radley

One thing that I may have added was some information about Daniel s past. His parents don t seem
supportive or understanding of him. His father gets upset with him, and cuts off his funding when he
doesn t do well in classes. He then tells Daniel that it s his mother s turn to take care of him. To me, it
seems like neither of his parents really want anything to do with him. I would think that this would
cause Daniel more distress than he shows.
I think that if someone with a disability watched The Other Sister they would think that it sends a
good message. Carla and Daniel aren t perfect or angels like some people think that people with
disabilities are. They are just like neurotypical people in that they have unique strengths and
weaknesses. They really are just their own individual people.
The Other Sister serves as a good reminder that people with disabilities aren t really all that much
different from neurotypical people. I sometimes find myself falling into the trap of thinking that
people with disabilities are innocent or are always in need of help. Just because some people have
disabilities doesn t mean that it s fair of me to hold them all to the same standards. Next time I find
myself generalizing people with disabilities, I will try to step back and see them how they see

The Pros And Cons Of Hemingway s Love For Alcohol
The Pros of Hemingway s Love for Alcohol Hemingway, famous author and journalist, was born in
the affluent Chicago suburb of Oak Park, Illinois, on July 21, 1899. His father was a doctor; his
mother, a musician. As a young man, he was interested in writing; he wrote for and edited his high
school s newspaper, as well as the high school yearbook. Upon graduating from Oak Park and River
Forest High School in 1917, he worked for the Kansas City Star newspaper briefly, but in that short
time, he learned the writing style that would shape nearly all of his future work. While his mother
hoped that her son would develop an interest in music, Hemingway adopted his father s outdoors
hobbies of hunting, fishing and camping in the woods and lakes ... Show more content on

They made me feel civilized. I had had too much red wine, bread, cheese, bad coffee, and grappa. I sat
on the high stool before the pleasant mahogany, the brass, and the mirrors and did not think at all. (A
Farewell to Arms 73) It was more than just a drink. It gave him a feeling that couldn t be replaced by
anything. It made him feel smart and educated ,and relaxed him to where he didn t think of anything
or anyone. Society views people that are constantly drinking as drunks without fully questioning or
understanding to what reasoning they might have to be addicted to such a thing such as alcohol.
Because society doesn t understand . Majority of people such as Hemingway drank due to depression.
That alcohol they chose to drink helps them forget or helps them feel better. Most people that choose
the route of drinking don t usually do anything with their lives , such as my Aunt who s been a drunky
all her life due to the lost of her daughter. She still sits in that coach and cries , she s has been crying
for years now, but Hemingway made history. He became one of the best writers in his centry and my
century. He motivated a lot of young writers. Although alcohol is believed to be bad for your liver ,
Hemingway didn t show a sign of caring. He found a positive outcome of alcohol and used it for his
own good . I held the oars up and we sailed with them. Catherine was opening the bag. She

Catholic Charities is a family and children s human service agency under the Archdiocese of Hartford.
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Hartford has over 90 years experience providing a variety of
services to children, teens, adults, and families without regard to race, religion, or economic
circumstances. The Catholic Charities of Connecticut had its beginnings through the Diocesan Bureau
of Social Services in 1920 when they evaluated social conditions affecting the population which gave
rise to new services to meet the needs. The emphasis was always on children and family welfare
which gave way to the original name of the agency, Catholic Family Services. In the beginning

The Issue Of Social Media
Issue 2 Social Media Unlike distance learning which a tool that delivers education to students is;
social media is a form of communication that many of our students utilize to learn about matters that
are going on around the campus and around the world. As stated by Ratliff, (2011) Communication
with student on campuses of higher education continues to drastically change (p.1). There are many
colleges and universities around the country that use social media to communicate a variety of
information to its students. There are several social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube
that are popular with all ages, races, and gender of students. With new technology come new
challenges, individuals now communicate differently, research differently, and socialize differently
(Ratliff, 2011, p. 1). Student affairs professionals not only must keep up with new regulations, changes
in policy, but they also should keep up with the different communication that students engage in. As
stated by Ratliff, (2011), The prevalent terms used to describe social media include: information
sharing, electronic communication, and social interaction (p.2). These forms of media are no longer
just an individual preference, but colleges and universities also set up pages about themselves. The age
of digital data is upon us in full force and one must be diligent in what they post and whom they are
trying to communicate with. It is important to understand specifically the terms

Similarities Between Good Night And Good Luck
I think that the issues presented in the movie Good Night and Good Luck are important to the history
of television because Ed Murrow had the courage to step up and challenge senator of Wisconsin
Joseph McCarthy about many of the issues that were going on in the early 1950. Murrow was brave
enough to report that people rights were being violated by not providing enough evidence and judging
them. For example the lady that was in court for supposable ties with communism and was fired from
her job without further investigation. In addition, he also reported about the air force officer that was
dismissed from the air force just because his dad had ties with communist. This officer didn t even had
the opportunity to have a fair trial he was found guilty without any evidence. I think that this journalist
made history because he presented the real issues that were going on in the real world without being ...

They were harassed or threaten to lose their sponsorship to their programming if they didn t follow
directions. However Murrow s honesty and courage was stronger than the harassment made about him
losing his job if he continued to report on controversial issues. Another thing that I also found
interesting how people didn t have the right to a fair hearing during that mandate of McCarthy. I just
think that it was very unfair to many people that were accused of having ties with communist or being
a communist because they would lose their job without further investigation. Furthermore, I also
found interesting how a Joe and Shirley couldn t work together because they married and it was
against policy rules. They had to hide their marriage from everyone to avoid being fired from their
job. I just found this very unfair because there was not conflict of interest since they both worked as
reporters and neither one had higher authority over the

  • 2. The Probation Officer And Offender Role The Probation Officer and Offender role has been widely examined, specifically in regards to the effective management of risk (McNeill, 2009, NOMS 2010). Within this, it is recognised that the relationship between these individuals is paramount to the effective management of risk and offending behaviour. There have been numerous working practices introduced throughout the years within the Probation Service to identify effective working practices including the Effective Practice Principles and latterly, Skills for Effective Engagement, Development and Supervision known by the acronym SEEDS (Rex Hosking, 2013). • 4. The Seatbelt Law, By Thomas Hobbes, And Jean Jacques Rousseau INTRODUCTION Every day millions of people around the United States commute daily to work, and to run their errands. In almost every state in the United States, wearing a seatbelt is required. Many people ask why they should have to wear a seatbelt in their private vehicles, while others agree that everybody definitely should wear their seatbelt. Should the government be able to create and enforce this laws such as this one on the public? This paper will discuss the seatbelt law, the views of philosophers Thomas Hobbes, and Jean Jacques Rousseau, and whether or not this law is ethical. THOMAS HOBBES Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) was an English philosopher who is best known for his work in political ethics. Hobbes had a pessimistic view of the human race, however his theory has been used as a major influence on western political views. In 1651, Thomas Hobbes wrote Leviathan, in which he states that life before government was violent, brutal, and barbaric. Hobbes continues on to argue that civil peace and social unity are best achieved by the establishment of a commonwealth through social contract. Leviathan consisted of four books: 1.) Of Man, 2.) Of Commonwealth, 3.) Of a Christian Commonwealth, and 4.) Of the Kingdom of Darkness. The first book contains the philosophical context, while the second book outlines the rights of the citizens within the commonwealth. However, as petroleum becomes more and more expensive, the new challenge that has been presented to todays society has been to find a sustainable way to continue running these engines without relying on diminishing petrol supplies (Connolly, 2013). The world has turned to biofuels; the use of biodiesel can produce power, performance and economy, along with assisting in the reduction of emissions and Greenhouse gases. However, its widespread use has been halted due to the ethical issues surrounding its production. The use of agricultural land for the use of bio fuels, detriments the mass food crisis and insecurity that the world faces. Is it really ethical to be using bio fuels to cut carbon emissions, which in turn could lead to millions of people in Asia starving to death? The inventor of the diesel engine, Dr. Rudolf Diesel, first conceptualised Biodiesel fuel in 1895. He generated and demonstrated a diesel engine that used peanut oil as its main fuel source in 1900 at the Paris World Exhibition, as he viewed using vegetable oil fuel as a means to provide economic growth in remote areas of the world due to widely available agricultural crops as the source of the fuel (Diesel Service and Supply, 2013). • 8. Metaphors In Sidney s Sonnet 31 Sonnet 31 is an attempt to capture the sorrow and desolation experienced in heartache, through the focal symbol of the poem, the moon. This acts as a metaphor for the narrator s deteriorated mental state, evoking sympathy in the reader. Sidney s sonnet offers us an insight into the narrator s anguish, brought into the reader s mind through his choice of form, rhyme and meter. Sonnet 31 forms a part of Sidney s collection Astrophil and Stella, a sequence of 108 sonnets and 11 songs, telling the story of the narrator Astrophil, chasing after his unrequited lover Stella. It has been said the sonnet sequence is partly autobiographical; many believe it is based upon Sidney s own feelings for Lady Penelope Rich. The name Astrophil translates to star crossed lover and Stella means star, the continuation of this theme provides a route for all the sonnets to follow, Sonnet 31 being no exception as the reader witnesses our narrator finding solace in the moon. As a reader we become instantly aware of the metaphorical qualities the moon holds. The poem begins With how sad steps, Oh Moon, thou climb st the skies, the pathetic fallacy here giving direction to the rest of the poem. The notion of the moon coming up signifies a transition from day to night, light to dark, perhaps revealing the movement of Astrophil s mental state, from one of peace to one of frustration and confusion. Sad steps (l.1) further exposes this idea as the personification of the moon becomes noticeable. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Gender, Social, And Social Sciences And Humanities gender role is a theoretical construct in the social sciences and humanities that refers to a set of social and behavioral norms that, within a specific culture, are widely considered to be socially appropriate for individuals of a specific sex. Socially accepted gender roles differ widely between different cultures. Sex is what we are categorized based on our reproductive organs; female or male. Sex is pretty so concrete, for the most part, unless you are born with some rare genetic sex chromosomal disorder. Gender, it, well can be harder to determine. Gender is merely the state of being male or female. Like with the states of water, the state of being male or female, can be manipulated or changed. With each gender comes certain gender roles. These roles are to help accentuate one s sex to society. Gender roles have been around for centuries. The greatest thing we notice, when it comes to gender roles, is how much they vary from culture to culture. Since marriage constitutes slavery for women, it is clear that the women s movement must concentrate on attacking this institution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage. The stakes for evolving cross modal meaning as a rhetorical move are quite high, because language alone is not always enough to communicate shared understanding. These personal connections can support engagement with the text because they help the reader establish a known context for that engagement. That s why the cross modal meaning might be more rhetorically useful. On top of that, Müller Brockmann, the father of the grid, championed this idea. He believed that typography and grid elements should present content in a neutral fashion (as cited in Susan M.hagan 2007). The typographic interplay, on the other hand, identifies the meaning potential between typographic shape and text. The Importance Of Body Art First of all, body art can promote the self awareness of people, which means one focuses attention on himself and understands personal features, feelings and behaviors. Body art has a strong impact on human vision and soul, because it can always catch the human nature and embodies the publicity of human nature (Greif, J., Hewitt, 1999). In fact, the body is the most primitive and natural expression of human beings, and the art of body is an external form of expression, taking the human nature as its main feature. Since the body art reflects the nature of human body, it enables us to see the truest and the most essential things in human society. As Hagel said, the body of human is the inner life of the spirit . The word spirit is a realm yearns for truth, wisdom, cognition, beauty and love, which never changes or fades. Therefore, on the one hand, body art raises individual conscious. This in turn 3 makes people think about themselves more deeply; understand both themselves and the development of human nature more clearly. Undoubtedly, human society is able to make a progress by deepening the understanding of human beings. On the other hand, body art awakens our appreciation of beauty and the greatness of our creator. Sometimes the story does not have fictional characters; instead the writer appeared as the character of the story and developed his qualities through their expression of feelings and desires. However, Thackeray s portrayal would have had a very different effect on the Victorian reader. • 25. Pros And Cons Of Virtue Ethics Martin Zemlock Ethics in Public Private Life Essay Dr. Dan Johnson 11/15/2017 Flaws of Aristotelian Virtue Ethics When most think of philosophy a list of people come to mind. You have your greats such as Plato, Nietzsche, and of course Aristotle. However, this does not mean that their ideas cannot be challenged and questioned, as no one is above criticism. Aristotelian Virtue Ethics have a major flaw that strikes at the heart of the idea. There is a severe lack of guidance both in what a virtue is, and what happens when they conflict. The mains question is, is one virtue more important than another? What is Aristotle s virtue ethics theory exactly? Aristotle was one of the first to describe this type of theory and he based it largely on Eudaimonism. Eudaimonism bases virtues in human flourishing, where flourishing is equated with performing one s distinctive function well (Virtue Ethics). For humans, Aristotle believed that our main function is reasoning and to live well we would need to reason well. The largest part of virtue ethics is the titular virtues that decide whether or not a person was truly flourishing or not. To first create an argument over the conflict of virtues one must first understand what makes a virtue a virtue. In Aristotelian Virtue Ethics, a virtue is described as something a virtuous person does. In turn, a virtuous person is someone who does virtuous acts. This is where a big issue arises in this theory. There are hardly any ground laws ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Responsibility Of Dorm Directors One of the number one priorities here at the college is to ensure that we are providing our students with a safe and secure environment that is conducive for learning. At an institution that provides Residence Halls for students, it is important to remember that the safety measures extended to those residence halls also. According to Sokolow (2004), there are three questions that a risk manager has to address when assessing risks, can the risk can be avoided, can the risk be transferred, or if the risk can be accepted (p. 90). The purpose of this audit is to identify the policies and practices that are in place that could potentially be a legal liability for the institution. In order to conduct this risk assessment, we will utilize the three category assessment: low risk bring searches, moderate risk of personal property, and high risk of mental health awareness and violence (Sokolow, 2004, p. 88) Searches Part of the responsibility of Dorm Directors is to report any illegal activity that may occur on the premises. A possible infraction may result in a dorm director or campus police performing a search of the room. There have been numerous complaints from students that there have been illegal searchers of their rooms. In some of these instances, the students were not present, and those who were present stated that they did not grant permission for officers to search. Electrical cars have been around since the 1800s.The first practical electric car was designed by Thomas Parker in London. In 2008 the electric car appeared once again because the advances in the battery and power technology, upward prices of oil and emissions. The electrical car originally used a lead acid based battery, today however the lithium ion rechargeable battery is used. The battery of the electric car stores chemical energy and converts the energy to electricity. The chemistry of the electric car is found mainly in the battery. In the battery there is a chemical reaction in cells which then produces a voltage. These batteries usually have 200 to 400 small cells. The cells are combined to create a powerful battery. The risk is that if one cell overcharge it causes a thermal reaction. The development electronic controls for this risk are in process but are expensive. Khalil Amine and Zonghai Chen of the Argonne National Laboratory discovered a molecule base of boron and fluorine added to each cell controls the charging of the battery cells. One can draw parallels between the prohibition of alcohol and the criminalization of marijuana to see the logic behind this premise. Prohibition was championed by groups such as the Anti Saloon League who felt that alcohol was a blight on society and spoke out against its evil effects. Prohibition was intended to curtail crime, yet crime increased in association with the manufacture, transport and sale of illegal alcohol and led to the birth of organized crime syndicates here in America. Prohibition did not thwart the public s use of alcohol; it only managed to drive its consumers underground. These scenarios are all similar to what we see today in connection with the criminalization of marijuana. Apart from the psychotropic aspects of marijuana, there is no dispute that it has industrial uses. Hemp was being used in the manufacturing of rope well into the 20th century. A point could be made that there were political and financial benefits to banning the cultivation of hemp in order to create a demand for nylon, a new synthetic material that was being developed by DuPont, a company owned by the affluent du Pont family. Currying favor with a family such as this obviously could reap certain rewards politically and monetarily and this fact could have been yet another motivation to criminalize ... (Huntley, 1999) In fact there are so many different terms for integration that it s easy to see why many would question its effectiveness. The terms include interdisciplinary, thematic, nested, transdisciplinary, integrated, connected, sequenced, shared, webbed, threaded, immersed, networked, blended, unified, coordinated, fused, teamed and multidisciplinary. This can only indicate the lack of coherence regarding what is meant by science and math integration. I just found this very unfair because there was not conflict of interest since they both worked as reporters and neither one had higher authority over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
