Southeast Asi Disaster Response Paper
Southeast Asia includes the countries of Brunei, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar,
Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and East Timor. These countries are comprised of both developed and
developing countries and are among the most densely populated countries in the world with a total
population exceeding 620 million people. United States foreign policy as well as significant global
attention can attest to the strategic, economic, and political importance of this region (Gursky, Burkle,
Hamon, Walker, Benjamin, 2014). Arguably, the critical link connecting the two major oceans of the
region and some of the most important waterway transits in the world, it is not difficult to understand why
the United States and its military organizations have long been a part of Humanitarian Assistance and
Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts in this region. This paper will examine the disaster preparedness and
response of the region as it shares the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the past decade alone, a person living in Asia Pacific was twice as likely to be affected by a natural
disaster as a person living in Africa, almost six times as likely as someone from Latin America and the
Caribbean, and 30 times more likely to suffer from a disaster than someone living in North America or
Europe (ESCAP: 2013). If history is any indicator of what the future has in store, the area will continue to
suffer natural disasters at a pace that far surpasses that of anywhere else in the world. The strategic,
economic and humanitarian impact of such disasters are devastating and improving our ability to respond
and prevent such massive loss of life and destruction is something that is well worth continued effort. The
region has certainly come a long way in improving its capabilities, but in the way ahead we must continue
to train and plan together to reduce the impact of future inevitable

Horror Films Study Guide
Slide 1: Horror is a genre that creates fear and terror by scaring the audience, or our friend Kramer here.
Human s worst fears and nightmares are recreated into films to re induce the fear and then sold out at film
premiers? Horror creates creatures from something as small as an imagination. But how do the most
horrific types of films do it? Slide 2: The first question we must ask is What is Horror? To be able to dive
into Horror in Documentaries. The 6 main horror genres are Gore and Disturbing, Psychological, Killer,
Monster, Zombies, and Paranormal. Many of these genres can be found in horrific documentaries but just
talking about a genre only creates a documentary, there are many traits needed to create horror
documentaries. Slide 3: There are 4 types of horror viewers. Gore ... Show more content on

Shooting images of another helpless human being into the eyes of the audience. The audience has to see
clips of horror that happened to another human being, this takes horror as we know it to a whole new
level. A risk with a horror documentary is involuntary mental flash backs that resurface horror or
memories similar to PTSD. Slide 13: In Human Harvest: China s Organ Trafficking we see an example of
the audience having to witness the horrific removal of organs from a live human being, one of our own
species. We are forced as an audience to watch the pain and terror in the prisoner s eyes while they are
bleeding out. Ethical issues similar to this are found in many more horror documentaries. Slide 14: In
1998, Clark McCauley conducted research by showing students three horrific documentary clips. Ninety
percent of the students turned off the video before the end but we see individuals pay to see horror in
theaters. McCauley determined ... that the fictional nature of horror films affords viewers a sense of

Internet Tracking
Electronic passage through the Internet leaves a trail that can be traced. Tracing is a process that follows
the Internet activity backwards, from the recipient to the user. As well, a user s Internet activity on web
sites can also be tracked on the recipient site i.e., what sites are visited and how often. Sometimes this
tracking and tracing ability is used to generate email to the user promoting a product that is related to the
sites visited. User information, however, can also be gathered covertly. This leaves us wondering if
tracking devices violates the user s privacy.

how the overuse of antibiotics contribute the development of drug resistant organisms and ways that this

nursing homes and clinics. These studies were conducted in different countries and states, this shows that
the overuse/misuse of antibiotics contribute to multidrug resistant infections. The misuse/overuse of
antibiotics is an issue that requires attention. Because of the development of C Difficile infections
education on drug resistant should commence at the undergraduate level for all health care professionals

Tim Burton Influence
Tim Burton works as a producer, illustrator, screenwriter, painter, and a director with unique
characteristics and reverberating themes ( Tim Burton Biography ). At a young age, one of Tim Burton s
teachers influenced him to stay true to what he imagined and visualized for his art instead of limiting his
capabilities as an artist. Tim Burton recreates and re visualizes the classical tradition of art where the
viewer can get a sense of Tim Burton s imagination and emotions. One of the ways that Tim Burton
emphasizes his past in his work would come from a question about how Burton s childhood can be seen
from the main character s isolation, from Frankenweenie , in an article by Dave Itzkoff in the New York
Times stating I felt like an outcast. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to The Art of Tim Burton: The Artist Before The Filmmaker website, the gothic art can be seen
by the use of black, the darkness of some of his drawings, the heavy make up, the paleness of the skins,
the macabre, and monsters and other ghostly creatures ( The Art of Tim Burton: The Artist Before The
Filmmaker ). According to the World of Light and Shadow German Expressionism and its Influence on
Modern Cinema website, German Expressionist films have two separate elements from all of the films
deal with a heavy contrast between black and white, good and evil, light and shadow, and deal with
brokenness and insanity of a shattered psyche (Tim Martin). The movie Edward Scissorhands involves
Gothic art because the house that Edward lives in at the beginning of the movie includes Gothic design,
such as the color black and the way that the house looks like a form of a small mansion and a form of a
cathedral due to the amount of space the building seems to have. The image above this paragraph features
Edward Scissorhands and Cesare from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari beside each other because the
resemblance of the facial expression and the body posture suggests that Cesare, from The Cabinet of Dr.
Caligari , influenced Tim Burton with the use of German Expressionism. German Expressionism would be
included with the facial expression of Edward Scissorhands from Cesare because German Expressionists
emphasize the horror of life because the people were living within the aftermath or the war and for some
of the other citizens the people were still living the war itself. (Tim Martin). The posture of Edward
Scissorhands also shows German Expressionism because it could emphasize the way in which the
character feels awkward, lonely, and confused as compared to Cesare s posture. The viewer s

Role Of Stephen King s Stories
The Role of Stephen King s Stories in Modern American Literature Stephen King is one of the most
prolific writers of this century. He has written a number of short stories and novels many of which have
been turned into movies. One of the reasons that King s works are popular with readers is due to the fact
that his stories give the reader something outside of the formulaic formula that many books are inclined to
follow or endings that are predictable and derivative. King also made his foray into horror in the 1970 s
when the genre was kind of lackluster. King offered the reader something different in that he did not shy
away from the gore, gratuitous violence or cheap shocks. One of the reasons that King s works have so
much power when it comes to the imagination is because he himself is a horror aficionado, who writes
according to his worldview. Readers can also see the influence that Classic literature has had on the works
of King. Just as the works of the Ancient Greeks and later Shakespeare focused on certain themes, such as
man versus nature, good versus evil or love versus hate, so do the works of King. However, in his works
King tends to twist the traditional plot of Shakespeare and the Classic by having his characters go from
hero to villain or showing the loss of man s honor or humanity in the wake of horror. One of the things
seen often times in his writing is the alienation of both the individual and of society. Publication of Mile

Civic Engagement Reflection
This semester for my civic engagement, I got the opportunity to work with WKAR. It is part of Michigan
State University Broadcasting Services, a division of MSU Communication Arts Sciences. It includes
WKAR TV, WKAR Radio, WKAR.org, Radio Reading Service, WKAR Ready to Learn Service and
Interactive Video Services. During my time with them, I got the opportunity to work with Jennifer Preslar.
She is the Event/Project Coordinator for their Public Media Department. The project that I m currently

I ve got the opportunity to help Jennifer with marketing and promoting, and securing guest speakers.
Through out this essay I will further expand on my experience with WKAR, and what I have learned thus

personal growth, exploration of our world and positive change. (WKAR). From what observed, everyone
in the WKAR does their best to abide by the mission statement. Everyone in this environment works
together, despite their position. The employees and my fellow interns, really created a welcoming and

How Camping Can Be A Responsible Camper While You Enjoy...
Camping is a fun, low cost way to enjoy the summer with family and friends. Here are a few tips that will
help you be a responsible camper while you enjoy the wild. 1. For bug repellent try citronella candles and
Avon Skin So Soft instead of toxic chemical insect repellents. 2. Wear long sleeves and long pants at dawn
and dusk when insects are most active. 3. Stay on trails to protect habitat and avoid snake encounters.
Snakes sense vibrations, so walking with a buddy or a group is not only wise, it will announce your
presence to snakes who just want to avoid encountering YOU! 4. Invest in a good sleeping pad, or at the
least, put an exercise mat under your sleeping bag. 5. Block ice lasts longer than bagged ice. Make your
own at home by filling milk jugs or water bottles. The less you open the cooler, the longer the ice will last.
6. Never hang lanterns on trees because the heat can cause serious harm. 7. Pack a small plastic bucket for
dish washing and never use the bathhouse sink for this task. 8. Hungry critters can be very clever and
destructive. Keep food locked in vehicles or tied up in trees. 9. Freeze chili, soups and stews in zip lock
bags, then heat them after they thaw. The frozen bags help keep ice from melting in the cooler. Rice and
pasta can also be cooked ahead of time and reheated on a camp stove. 10. Pita pockets keep their shape
better than loaf bread. 11. Disposable water bottles make great dispensers for salad dressings and sauces.

An Alien On Earth And Hunted Humans
Question One: If an alien race landed on Earth and hunted humans, we would need many different
protection methods. The five methods I think would benefit humans the most in an alien invasion would
be: venom, speed, webbed feet, strong claws, and strong jaws. Venom would be very important for my
protection because I would rather kill the aliens, instead of avoiding them. In order to inject venom into
the aliens, humans would need to have sharper teeth. I would sneak up on an alien and bite them. This
could immobilize the alien once the venom affects them. Two animals that utilize venom are spiders and
snakes. Speed would be another important protection method because if a group of aliens were chasing
you, they would not be able to keep up with your incredible speed. If you were traveling in a large group,
you could all go separate directions and confuse the aliens. They would not be able to keep track of
everyone or even be able to catch up to any human. This would also include the speed of climbing things,
such as trees and mountains. Two animals that utilize this method of protection are the cobra and the
rattlesnake. Webbed feet would also be an important protection method for humans if they were being
hunted by aliens. Webbed feet are helpful for swimming and would allow humans to swim quickly away
from the predators. Webbed feet would make our feet look a lot different than they do now. We would
walk differently with webbed feet, but would swim very fast. I am a slow

with the halo created by the reflection of the orange grove.
The red lines drawn on the image show the commonly used technique of perspective leading to the
vanishing point which is the centre of the image. This is where Venus stands, which is a technical element
conveying her importance within the painting.
The impeccable attention and detail on Flora s face indicates that he was of the High Renaissance

Bartocelli used Egg tempera to create this painting. He has connected the colours of the paint with the

How Does Thomas Paine Use Pathos In The Crisis No 1
What would you do to be free? During the Age of Reason so many people relied on their brains for logic
and reason, and they never let their emotions factor in. They struggled with the ideas of war and
independence because they did not realize what they were fighting for. Most of the militia men were
involved in this only for the money and they never truly saw the benefit of freedom until Thomas Paine
paved the way. Thomas Paine uses pathos in his writing of The Crisis No.1 to be personal with the
colonists and help impact the decisions they make for the future. It was important for Thomas Paine to use
pathos to persuade the audience because they needed to see a connection between their lives and the war.

of better days. Paine taught them to take to heart the lives of their children and persuade them to set in

What Is The Relationship Between Mother Courage And Her...
The titular character in Mother Courage and Her Children illuminates an important idea when considering
a character s actions in a time of languishing prosperity. Yet, the characters pivotal actions catalyze the
fatality of her three children and in turn represent how morals, in times of survival, waver; the results of
tough choices are harsh judgements. Bertolt Brecht, the playwright, uses his innovative approach to
theatre to force the audience to detach themselves from their common knowledge of what theatre is and
how it chews over hot button issues. He alienates his audience to create a chance to question personal
attitudes in regards to the wide spectrum of ideas discussed in the play motherhood, business, morality,

Examples Of Insanity In The Black Cat
The Black Cat, a short horror story by Edgar Allen Poe, told in a first person perspective, follows the
narrator through his mental decline triggered by alcoholism. It narrates about how his degraded rational
state causes him to torture animals and kill his wife. Insanity, as demonstrated by the narrator of The
Black Cat, does not always manifest itself as permanent characteristics that consistently show. Sometimes
it shows as periods of irrationality and irritability, an inability to distinguish right from wrong, or as mad
fits of uncontrollable rage. Alcohol can prompt these outbursts of rage. Because of the events and
contemplations of the narrator, we as readers can conclude that he is definitely not sane during these
outbursts. The narrator is insane because he can t have power over his own actions and is therefore not
guilty of killing his wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abortion Is An Intentional Termination Of A Pregnancy
Abortion is an intentional termination of a pregnancy during the first twenty eight weeks. The debate of
whether or not abortion should be legalized has been a key political topic for years. Based upon a survey
done by the Pew Research Center, as of September 22, 2014 a majority of Americans (55%) express the
opinion that abortion should be legal in all or most cases; four in ten say it should be illegal in all or most
cases. (Abortion, n.p.). Abortion should be legalized based upon the mothers medical circumstances, for
the fact that abortion is not a threat against the mental health of patients, and to the rights of privacy and
bodily integrity of females must be kept. Moreover the religious views of others should not be taken as a
factor against a person s decision for abortion. The legalization of abortion is a strongly debated topic
among our political parties. The Republican Party, unlike the Democratic Party, is against abortion even
though impending mothers may require an abortion to save their own lives. Abortions, as reported by the
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist, are fundamentally needed in many situations to save
the lives of woman since ...pregnancy is not a risk free life event. (Painter, n.p.). There are multiple
medical situations in which a pregnancy must be terminated due to the mother s life being at risk such as a
cyst(s) on the fetus, preeclampsia, incest, the mother is bodily young, or it is a high risk miscarriage.
Moreover, a

Pros And Cons Of Social Categorization
Have you ever judged a person by their age, gender or appearance rather than really knowing them? When
you meet a tattooed man on the street, your first impression of him might be bad, i.e. a negative
categorization, since tattoos are associated with criminals and unemployed people. However, he could be
a person who does volunteer and works as a business manager. People tend to automatically categorize a
person into groups by visual judgements, demographic features, personality and own perceptions or
beliefs (Billig Tajfel, 1973). Social categorization is a process of classifying people into different groups
based on their similar characteristics and group memberships. It is a natural part of social perception and
serves a basic epistemic and identity function in organizing and structuring people s knowledge about the
world and make things become manageable in daily life (Bodenhausen, Kang Peery, 2012). It occurs
spontaneously without much thoughts (Crips Hewstone, 2007). In social categorization, we usually form a
general conclusion about other people and begin to respond to them as a member of a particular social
group than as individuals. It allows us to communicate and connect with those who share the same or
similar group membership. Social groups that we use in social categorization can change under different
situations and over time. Whaley and Link (1998) discovered that there is a strong association between
categorization and stereotype based judgments. For

Essay about Frank Lloyd Wright
Frank Lloyd Wright Frank Lloyd Wright, an American architect that was considered to be one of the
greatest in the 20th century. He was a pioneer in the modern style of architecture. For more than 70 years,
frank showed his countrymen ways to build their homes and see the world around them. He created some
of the most monumental, and some of most intimate space in America. He has designed everything from
banks and resorts, office buildings and churches, a filling station and a synagogue, a beer garden and an
art museum. Frank was born June 8, 1867, in Richland, Wisconsin and died in Phoenix, Arizona, on April
9, 1959, at the age of 91. His Father, a musician, abandoned the family in 1885. He grew up under the

Tragedy struck Wright in 1914, when a servant at Taliesin murdered Cheney, her two children, and four
other people before setting the place on fire. He began to rebuild Taliesin right immediately after the fire.
After Catherine granted him a divorce in 1922, he married Miriam Noel. She was a very emotional
unstable woman. He separated form her not too long afterwards. In 1927 he got a divorce from Miriam. In
1927, he married His third wife. Olgivanna Milanoff was the wife that he would finally stay with. They
would live at the rebuilt Taliesin, which became his studio and a center for training apprentices in his
architectural principles. He later built Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona, and from then on, the studio
and apprentices moved to Arizona for the winter. Wright created the philosophy of organic architecture,
the center principle of which maintains that the building should develop out of its natural surroundings.
From the outset he exhibited bold originality in his designs for both private and public structures and
rebelled against the ornate neoclassic and Victorian styles favored by conventional architects. Wright
believe that each building should have its own identity and it should be determined in each case by the
particular function of the building, its environment, and the type of materials used in the structure. He

Claris Explosion Vs Great Storm
Halifax Explosion VS Great Lakes Storm
Halifax Explosion
In December 1917, almost 100 years ago, a French cargo ship (SS Mont Blanc) filled with explosives
collided with a Norwegian ship (SS Imo). A fire started on the Norwegian ship, and after 20 minutes the
fire became uncontrollable, soon spreading to Mont Blanc, igniting the explosives and causing a very
large explosion. The blast killed approximately 2000 people, injuring about 9000, and leaving over 25000
people with no shelter. The explosion took place on December 6th in the Narrows, a strait connecting the
upper Halifax Harbour to Bedford Basin. The blast s effect was mostly in the Richmond district, but it
affected other spots like Dartmouth and the Tufts Cove area. The blast even shattered windows in Truro,
100 km away, and was heard in Prince Edward Island. The blast later caused a tsunami devastating the Mi
kmaq First Nations people who had lived in the Tufts Cove area. People living in Halifax were not ready
and not equipped for such a disaster, there were almost no emergency or social services in place and most
were administered by civilians and private organizations. The municipal government helped with relief
but the most came from public and private volunteers. At the time of the explosion the city mayor was
away, all responsibilities were placed on Deputy Mayor Henry Colwell. There were only very small police
services and fire services available, the fire station captain was killed and the only fire truck

Petric Competition Experiment
Introduction Almost all living things deal with competition, including plants. In order to understand
competition, it is first necessary to understand niche. A niche is a species ecological role in a community
(Brooker et al. 2016). Competition occurs when there is an overlap of the niches this causes the plants to
compete for the limited amount of resources. Competition is an interaction where both of the parties
involved are negatively impacted. There are four main types of competition. Intraspecific competition
occurs between individuals within the same species. Another type is interspecific competition, which
occurs between individuals of separate species. The other two types of competition depends on how the
members are competing. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our results support this hypothesis since when garlic was present in the petri dish there was no growth,
compared to the control where there was growth. This was because of the chemical that garlic releases,
allicin (Djurdjevic 2004). For the second experiment, we hypothesized that the garlic bulb would have the
greatest effect on lettuce seed growth. Our results supported this hypothesis since there was no growth in
the lettuce seeds when the bulb was present. This occurred because the bulb releases allicin which
prevents the uptake of organic substances in the seeds (Djurdjevic 2004). Therefore, we reject the null
hypothesis. The data suggests that our alternative hypotheses were correct. During our experiment, there
were a few possible sources of error. One is the presence of mold growth in some of the petri dishes. This
could have skewed some of the data. Another possible source of error is that since different students
measured each seedling sprouts, they could have measured differently from the next person. This would
cause some of the measurements to be either too low or too high. The third possible source of error is that
the parafilm did not completely seal the petri dishes. This would have caused the petri dish to dry out and
would inhibit growth for the lettuce

The Shining Path Or El Sendero Luminoso
Known as one of the most dangerous and violent terrorist organizations in the world, the Shining Path or
El Sendero Luminoso in Spanish of Peru was unique in various aspects. Although now considered a
menace to Peruvian society, the Shining Path still remains as a significant reference for revolutionary
movements. Living in an age of terror, Peru was a country of disorder and corruption; the road to
liberation was a far way to go. For years, demagogic candidates turned dictatorial leaders were filled with
an insatiable hunger to fight for power and dominance. They mainly spent money on military forces,
drugs, and other frivolous things; yet all failed to simply provide for the people who needed them most.
Living was almost nonexistent and an illusion with an impoverished economy. The country remained
socioeconomically stagnant. Promises were never made and Peruvians became more desperate, angry, and
resentful by the day. Emotions gradually fueled their fires into strong burning passions. This was more
than enough to spark a revolutionary movement to eternally live on. No matter how vile and wicked it
would resort to, the people were ready. Everyone just wanted to survive. And that was exactly where the
Shining Path came into the picture. Despite how unconventional this shining path was, it brought a
promising future to the voices dying to be heard.

pilgrimage to Mecca by his god Allah, but he turned a religious trek into a search for new means of
acquiring money and to show off his extensive amount of servants and his seemingly endless supplies of

The historical context of the story, the people s conformity to standards in that era, and Sammy s thoughts

Has anyone ever advocated for you or anything you respect? Although Jackie Robinson, Melba Patillo

change their countries for the better. They all had one thing in common despite their differences;
perseverance. But what actions of perseverance did they commit to? For a long time, only white people
were in the major leagues. Until, however, Jackie Robinson defied this and made a change for the better.
He was the first African American in America to be in the major leagues of baseball, although many
people did not agree with this. This is shown when we see that white people had yelled insults and racial
slurs at him during his games, It hadn t been that easy to fight the resentment expressed by players on

Louisville Flood Victims By Margaret Bourke-White
Description:
Margaret Bourke White. Louisville Flood Victims. 1937. Photograph.
Analysis:
Margaret Bourke White utilizes the actual horizontal lines of the billboard, as well as the implied lines of
the people s heads. The repetition of the people along with the faces on the billboard, forcefully move the
attention horizontally to the right of the photograph. This, in turn, makes the viewer anticipate what is
coming next. Although we know that the people are in a state of motion, there is a sense of stillness as if
the moment will never end. At first glance, the balance appears to be somewhat symmetrical, but looking
further, one notices the small cluster of children in the bottom left corner, casting the balance as
asymmetrical. It also appears as if there is a downward slope going from the furthermost right, to the
furthermost left of the image. The colors seem varied and dark, contrasting the coats of the individuals
with the stark white bags, and the intrusive bright colors of the billboard, this creates a contrast in the
mood of the apparent glee of the billboard, with the traumatic expressions of the individuals. Although
black and white, the image uses a wide range of light and dark, going from the bright white of the bags
and billboard, to the deep darks of the coats and few of the glum faces. In between these two extremes,
there are varying shades of light and dark in the billboard and surrounding scene. Finally, the emphasis is
placed on the people, the victims of the Louisville flood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Should Animals be kept in zoos? Have you ever been to a zoo? If you have then you may or may not
noticed how badly the animals are treated. Many zoos around the world are mistreating animals and the
public has no idea about it. Zoos are very unfair to animals. Would you want to be stuck in a small area for
your whole life when you could be roaming free in the wild somewhere? Probably not. Well, that is what
happens to most animals in a zoo. It is completely unfair! Animals do not deserve to be in such small
areas. It can cause serious cases of stress and depression. They teach the public that it is okay to cage wild
animals, which is definitely not true. No animal should be caged up. Therefore, zoos should not be
allowed. Many of animals in zoos suffer from stress and boredom. The zoo staff separates animals
families which can stress them out. Most zoos do not ever put the animals back in the wild. They keep the
animals in small captivities or cages for the rest of their days. Elephants kept in zoos do not live as long as

Why we fear the unknown from psychology today stated that, we can be conditioned to fear or

The Culture of Ancient Egypt
Language and System of writing
The system of writing that the ancient Egyptians used is called Hieroglyphics coming from the two Greek
words hieros meaning holy and glyphe meaning writing. Hieroglyphics are a series of pictures drawn from
one side of the page to the other. Hieroglyphics can be read and written from left to right or right to left
depending upon which way the human and animal characters are facing. If the characters face the left then
you read from the left to the right. Each hieroglyph represents a single sound, but as the Egyptians wrote
sentences and words they took advantage of the vowels so they are still trying to figure them out today.

The Government in Ancient Egypt was ran on theocracy, which meant that there was a ruler who was
recognized as deity. The pharaoh couldn t run this all by himself so he had a hierarchy of rulers and

command the hierarchy and they would fulfil their roles and jobs as priest, scribes, vizier etc.
Reliable supply of food and water
The Ancient Egyptians are indebted to the Nile River because it has supplied them with water and
nutrients in the soil for them to grow the crops that they need to survive for many centuries. The
predictability of the Nile s flooding allowed the Egyptians to inquire deep into the agriculture of their land
in order for them to grow all these crops such as the grains, fruits and vegetables that they used to eat. The
Egyptian diet however revolved heavily around several primary crops, especial cereals and barley. The
Egyptians would also grow Einkorn Emmer where grown to make bread. Pulses, beans, lentils, later
chickpeas and fava beans were also grown. Root crop such as radishes, onions, and garlics were grown
along with salad crops like lettuce and parsley. The Egyptians artwork motive was fruit, suggesting that
this was also a major part of agricultural living.

He says Gather ye rose buds while ye may, Old time is still a flying which indicates that he s being
encouraging about life s gifts and the importance of gathering them. This differs from Robert Frosts The

uncertain about choosing the right path when he says I doubted if I should ever come back . Those are the

Humor In Aristophanes The Birds
Humor has entertained and enthralled audiences for all of recorded history. Everyone enjoys a good laugh,
but what exactly makes something humorous? It could be tension that is released in an unexpected and
positive way. It could be the discussion of subject seen as taboo. Humor could also just be the enjoyment
of other s misfortunes. In the Birds by Aristophanes uses all three techniques to humor the audience, but
one specific scene utilizes humor exceptionally well. Aristophanes writes:
PEITHETAIROS. Not a chance. / I want a treaty first. Like the marriage contract / That knife grinder

Aristophanes accomplishes humor using taboo speech. Peithetairos begins his statement by belittling the
gods. He simplifies Hephaestus to a knife grinder and his wife is not even names properly. The demeaning
of religious figures is a common comedic practice. It relies on the unpredictable and shocking actions of
the comedian to create tension. It also makes and appeal to the ego of the audience. Lowering the status of
the gods would create a feeling superiority for the audience. Aristophanes also implies that sharp objects
would be stuck up the character s anus. Most cultures would consider discussing sticking objects in the
rectum to be taboo, but Aristophanes uses the fact that it is taboo to shock the audience. The scene uses
the shock to add tension that is then released resulting in humor. The use of taboo subjects to create humor
is still common practice among comedians. Once again Aristophanes has created humor that transcends

Precipitation Analysis
With an average annual total rainfall of 53.1 inches, the six stations examined and their mean rates of
precipitation are consistent with the claim that the entire state of Florida receives, on average, 54 inches of
precipitation annually. Stations like Deland, Inverness, High Springs and Canal Point differed little from
the expected mean, while Marathon Shores and Niceville deviated noticeably. This deviation, however, is
chiefly explained by the stations locations and the patterns of rainfall associated with those positions. For
example, Marathon Shore s aberration is likely due to the fact that the area received comparatively less
rainfall during the summer months of June through September with a rather low mean ... Show more

Deland, Inverness and Canal Point, for example, are situated much closer to the coast when compared to
High Springs, and they exhibit a greater total annual precipitation rate of 53.72 inches as opposed to High
Spring s 52.27 inches and a greater annual monthly mean of 4.48 inches compared to the 4.36 inches of
High Springs. While relatively small, this variance among precipitation rates is still great enough to
confirm the claim that most of the time, at least, stations located closer to the coast experience overall
higher mean monthly and mean annual precipitation rates.
Using the data collected solely from the selected six stations, a possible correlation is unclear between the
amount of precipitation received and the number of hurricane strikes within a given area despite the claim
made in the conceptual model. Niceville, for instance, experiences the highest overall mean monthly and
mean annual precipitation of the six stations in addition to experiencing the highest mean precipitation
rate during the specified months of July through October with a mean of 6.68 inches, but according to the

  • 12. Role Of Stephen King s Stories The Role of Stephen King s Stories in Modern American Literature Stephen King is one of the most prolific writers of this century. He has written a number of short stories and novels many of which have been turned into movies. One of the reasons that King s works are popular with readers is due to the fact that his stories give the reader something outside of the formulaic formula that many books are inclined to follow or endings that are predictable and derivative. King also made his foray into horror in the 1970 s when the genre was kind of lackluster. King offered the reader something different in that he did not shy away from the gore, gratuitous violence or cheap shocks. One of the reasons that King s works have so much power when it comes to the imagination is because he himself is a horror aficionado, who writes according to his worldview. Readers can also see the influence that Classic literature has had on the works of King. Just as the works of the Ancient Greeks and later Shakespeare focused on certain themes, such as man versus nature, good versus evil or love versus hate, so do the works of King. However, in his works King tends to twist the traditional plot of Shakespeare and the Classic by having his characters go from hero to villain or showing the loss of man s honor or humanity in the wake of horror. One of the things seen often times in his writing is the alienation of both the individual and of society. Publication of Mile 81 Mile 81 was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The five methods I think would benefit humans the most in an alien invasion would be: venom, speed, webbed feet, strong claws, and strong jaws. Venom would be very important for my protection because I would rather kill the aliens, instead of avoiding them. In order to inject venom into the aliens, humans would need to have sharper teeth. I would sneak up on an alien and bite them. This could immobilize the alien once the venom affects them. Two animals that utilize venom are spiders and snakes. Speed would be another important protection method because if a group of aliens were chasing you, they would not be able to keep up with your incredible speed. If you were traveling in a large group, you could all go separate directions and confuse the aliens. They would not be able to keep track of everyone or even be able to catch up to any human. This would also include the speed of climbing things, such as trees and mountains. Two animals that utilize this method of protection are the cobra and the rattlesnake. Webbed feet would also be an important protection method for humans if they were being hunted by aliens. This is where Venus stands, which is a technical element conveying her importance within the painting. The impeccable attention and detail on Flora s face indicates that he was of the High Renaissance movement. Bartocelli used Egg tempera to create this painting. He has connected the colours of the paint with the message behind each part and being of the image. When you meet a tattooed man on the street, your first impression of him might be bad, i.e. a negative categorization, since tattoos are associated with criminals and unemployed people. However, he could be a person who does volunteer and works as a business manager. People tend to automatically categorize a person into groups by visual judgements, demographic features, personality and own perceptions or beliefs (Billig Tajfel, 1973). Social categorization is a process of classifying people into different groups based on their similar characteristics and group memberships. It is a natural part of social perception and serves a basic epistemic and identity function in organizing and structuring people s knowledge about the world and make things become manageable in daily life (Bodenhausen, Kang Peery, 2012). It occurs spontaneously without much thoughts (Crips Hewstone, 2007). In social categorization, we usually form a general conclusion about other people and begin to respond to them as a member of a particular social group than as individuals. It allows us to communicate and connect with those who share the same or similar group membership. Social groups that we use in social categorization can change under different situations and over time. Competition occurs when there is an overlap of the niches this causes the plants to compete for the limited amount of resources. Competition is an interaction where both of the parties involved are negatively impacted. There are four main types of competition. Intraspecific competition occurs between individuals within the same species. Another type is interspecific competition, which occurs between individuals of separate species. The other two types of competition depends on how the members are competing. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our results support this hypothesis since when garlic was present in the petri dish there was no growth, compared to the control where there was growth. This was because of the chemical that garlic releases, allicin (Djurdjevic 2004). For the second experiment, we hypothesized that the garlic bulb would have the greatest effect on lettuce seed growth. Our results supported this hypothesis since there was no growth in the lettuce seeds when the bulb was present. This occurred because the bulb releases allicin which prevents the uptake of organic substances in the seeds (Djurdjevic 2004). Therefore, we reject the null hypothesis. The data suggests that our alternative hypotheses were correct. During our experiment, there were a few possible sources of error. One is the presence of mold growth in some of the petri dishes. This could have skewed some of the data. Another possible source of error is that since different students measured each seedling sprouts, they could have measured differently from the next person. This would cause some of the measurements to be either too low or too high. The third possible source of error is that the parafilm did not completely seal the petri dishes. This would have caused the petri dish to dry out and would inhibit growth for the lettuce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Shining Path Or El Sendero Luminoso Known as one of the most dangerous and violent terrorist organizations in the world, the Shining Path or El Sendero Luminoso in Spanish of Peru was unique in various aspects. Although now considered a menace to Peruvian society, the Shining Path still remains as a significant reference for revolutionary movements. Living in an age of terror, Peru was a country of disorder and corruption; the road to liberation was a far way to go. For years, demagogic candidates turned dictatorial leaders were filled with an insatiable hunger to fight for power and dominance. They mainly spent money on military forces, drugs, and other frivolous things; yet all failed to simply provide for the people who needed them most. Living was almost nonexistent and an illusion with an impoverished economy. The country remained socioeconomically stagnant. Promises were never made and Peruvians became more desperate, angry, and resentful by the day. Emotions gradually fueled their fires into strong burning passions. This was more than enough to spark a revolutionary movement to eternally live on. No matter how vile and wicked it would resort to, the people were ready. Everyone just wanted to survive. And that was exactly where the Shining Path came into the picture. Despite how unconventional this shining path was, it brought a promising future to the voices dying to be heard. • 31. Louisville Flood Victims By Margaret Bourke-White Description: Margaret Bourke White. Louisville Flood Victims. 1937. Photograph. Analysis: Margaret Bourke White utilizes the actual horizontal lines of the billboard, as well as the implied lines of the people s heads. The repetition of the people along with the faces on the billboard, forcefully move the attention horizontally to the right of the photograph. This, in turn, makes the viewer anticipate what is coming next. Although we know that the people are in a state of motion, there is a sense of stillness as if the moment will never end. At first glance, the balance appears to be somewhat symmetrical, but looking further, one notices the small cluster of children in the bottom left corner, casting the balance as asymmetrical. It also appears as if there is a downward slope going from the furthermost right, to the furthermost left of the image. The colors seem varied and dark, contrasting the coats of the individuals with the stark white bags, and the intrusive bright colors of the billboard, this creates a contrast in the mood of the apparent glee of the billboard, with the traumatic expressions of the individuals. Although black and white, the image uses a wide range of light and dark, going from the bright white of the bags and billboard, to the deep darks of the coats and few of the glum faces. In between these two extremes, there are varying shades of light and dark in the billboard and surrounding scene. Stations like Deland, Inverness, High Springs and Canal Point differed little from the expected mean, while Marathon Shores and Niceville deviated noticeably. While relatively small, this variance among precipitation rates is still great enough to confirm the claim that most of the time, at least, stations located closer to the coast experience overall higher mean monthly and mean annual precipitation rates.
