Essay On Two Short Stories
Theme Of In Our Time By Ernest Hemingway
In Our Time: When Playing the Macho Man Leads to Stage FrightErnest Hemingway s collection
of short stories, In Our Time, portrays multiple examples of men trying to prove their masculinity in
exorbitant manners, only to be met with disgrace. Thomas Strychacz points out in his essay,
Dramatizations of Manhood in Hemingway s In Our Time and The Sun Also Rises that
Hemingway s male characters ...sense of self rests precariously upon the audience s decision to
validate or reject ritual gestures toward manhood, (Strychacz 247). This concept reoccurs multiple
times throughout the book, particularly in Nick Adam s father and the former fighting champion
Ad Francis. In both cases, the men act in extravagant ways as a method to show their dominance,
yet when placed in front of a new audience, it leads to their defeat and humiliation.Nick Adams
father, a doctor, is one of the first characters Hemingway introduces who behaves in an
exaggerated way to assert his authority. In Indian Camp , we see Nick s father perform an
emergency caesarean section on an Indian woman who had been in labor for several days with a
breached baby. In this story, the Doctor is shown as the brave, masculine hero . The woman s
screams do not bother him, and he does not notice how gruesome and traumatizing this scene is to
his young son. In fact, he finds the experience rather thrilling. Post operating, it says the doctor

Essay On Veterinary Technician
The Nature of the job isn t as easy as it looks but you have to examine, bathe the animals, seeing
if they are sick, taking x rays, taking blood tests, check for parasites, put them to sleep for
surgery, and prepare tools and medicine for the Veterinarian when they re in the process of
surgery and more. It s very important to take science, computer chemistry, math, and health in high
school so you can be ready for medical school. Also you need as much experience with animals as
you can get. There are many programs you can take in collegefor being a Veterinary technician,
technologist, or even both. Being a Veterinary technicianrequires working with all kinds of

which is supposedly much faster than average. There are many animal hospitals and clinics that
use many Veterinary technicians and technologists. That need to provide a lot of care for the
injured animals, and need to perform laboratory work for the Veterinarians. They are demanded
to be in areas such as food, and animal safety where they organize work to prevent foodborne
contaminations and diseases in animals. Public health is important too. They work to protect the
health of an entire population, disease control, and medical research on human health problems.
The annual wage was $32,490 in May. The lowest earned was less than $22,340, and the highest
is $48,330. Veterinary technicians and technologists can, or may have to work evenings,
weekends, or holidays. Some get to choose their own schedules. The pay is pretty good
depending on how many days you work a week or how many hours you work a day, or how many
weeks you work a month. Being a veterinary technician and technologist is fun but can be

Renaissance Catastrophes
Throughout the decades in Europe, multiple catastrophes and events went down into the books of
history. One of the most significant catastrophes that ignited the Renaissance was the Black Death.
The plague was a widespread epidemic that spread across Asia then to Europe in the fourteenth
century. In effect to this disaster humanism slowly ruptured, focusing on humans and their values
or worth. After starting in Italy, humanism spread across Europe. Due to this ideology, new ways of
life soared across the country. The effect was painters, engineers, inventors, sculptures, architects,
and poets designed artwork, and buildings that started what Italy and Florence are known for today.
The cause of the Black Death were twelve ships docked at the

Harassment In Kings Bay
Introduction: Paradoxical swim with programs, modeled as an ecotourism method, are of great
interest to conservation biologists. Crystal River, Florida, which includes Kings Bay, is the only
place in the United States where swimming with manatees is permitted. This globally advertised
tourism attraction draws in well over 100,000 tourists a year.1 These tourists have close interaction
with over 500 manatees that winter in Kings Bay (2 km2).2 This number has increased from the
114 manatees using these warm water springs in 1981 1982, demonstrating the growing importance
of Kings Bay as a warm water site.3 West coast manatees migrate to the Kings Bay area to escape

U.S. Geological Survey s Sirenia Project has been monitoring welfare biomarkers in manatees
over several years in Kings Bay, Florida. Dr. Bob Bonde, a research biologist with the Sirenia
Project, is granting the use of these samples for my proposed project. Identification and
documentation of age classes of manatees at Kings Bay will account for manatees adapting to
human interactions at these study sites over time. Thus, age may be positively correlated with
lower welfare biomarker concentrations in samples. Fecal and blood samples will also be collected
from captive manatees in swim programs at Isla Mujeres s Dolphin Discovery Center with
cooperation from staff members. Hypothesis 1: Human interaction induces negative physiological

Coke Scientific Paper
A solution of coke is considered to be homogenous since it contains a uniform composition and
furthermore, Coke is a mixture since its main ingredients can be broken down into various
components such as sugars and carbonic acid. The term that determined the number of significant
figures was the mass. The mass had four significant figures which led to the density having the
same number of significant figures. The mass was chosen because it was measured using the
analytical balance. Despite measuring the same amount of solution for all three volumetric
glassware, it was revealed in this experiment that different glassware will give fluctuating
recordings due to the different calibrations found within each glassware. It was deemed that the
Buret provides the most precise density value among the three glassware utilized in the experiment.
The Buret accumulated 0.34 % difference indicating high precision. The least precise data came
from the graduated cylinder. The graduated cylinder had a percent difference of 1.37% which was

Based on the computations, it was deemed that the Buret had the clear cut advantage in precision
compared to the other two glassware. In the computations, the data from handling the Buret
produced an average density of 1.041 g/mL. The percent difference was calculated by dividing the
difference between the two trials over the average density. The percent difference of the Buret
datum had the lowest percentage difference of 0.37 % confirming its superior precision. In
comparison, the data from the graduated cylinder and pipette produced percent differences of 1.37

The Psychic Medium
The Psychic Medium
There are many types of psychic phenomena that exist. In this paper, I will discuss that of the
psychic medium. The term psychic medium refers to a person thought to have the ability to
communicate with the spirits of the dead or with agents of another world or dimension through
extra sensory perception or paranormal powers. While a medium will always be psychic, a psychic
is not always a medium. The main objective of a mediums work is to prove survival of the
human personality or spirit after death and to help the bereaved come to terms with their loss. The
ability of a psychic medium can have a life saving effect. However, due to the many fraudulent
practitioners trying to scam people out of their money by offering ... Show more content on

It all began when the Greek philosophers got into the habit of questioning nature, raising doubts
about everything. Sacred forms of experience were scorned and disparaged and eventually a
certain kind of science came to dominate our thinking; the old wisdom traditions were forced to
take a back seat.
Of course, it s easy to tote up the pluses of Science, which has freed us from ignorance and
superstition, cleared the way to mastering the forces of nature, extended life and made things
comfortable for the affluent in capitalist societies. On the other hand, according to the official view,
consciousness peeps out momentarily, and is destined to vanish forever after death. Science has
torn down the ancient myths, and made the implausibility of life after death an article of faith.
The effects of these phenomena have a great impact on human society. When a mother loses a
child it is always a tragedy, but when there are a lot of unanswered questions relating to his/her
death, the help of a medium can lead to or bring closure to the family, enabling them to move
forward. Most people mourning the loss of a loved one are in an extremely vulnerable state,
yearning for answers to questions that one can no longer answer. If we could definitively answer
these questions, the human race would be that much stronger.

Essay about Sikh Marriage
Sikh Marriage
Introduction
Expect among some westernised subgroups in the larger Indian cities social mixing between the
sexes is restricted, even in co educational schools. Also, the joint or extended family system is still
the Indian norm. It is in this context, which can only be referred to in passing in this piece of
coursework, that Sikh marriage must be understood. Marriage, traditionally, is not a private matter
between two persons. Through the couple two families become closely connected and into one
family comes a stranger, the wife. She has therefore to be compatible not only with her husband but
with his parents, brothers, their wives and his unmarried sisters. Ideally the marriage ... Show more

The emphasis upon family life as that which God has ordained is such that few Sikhs wish to
remain single. The family assists in finding a partner. Suitability should have as its criteria
virtuous qualities, temperament and age. Then, if they have any place, societal status and
economic position. A final factor will be caste consideration. A Jat is likely to marry a Jat, an
Arora an Arora, a Ramgarhia a Ramgarhia, but there are many exceptions. It is most important that
a Sikh marries a Sikh. The true life of discipleship to the teaching of the Gurus can most
completely be carried out in the householder (grihasthi) state and it is important that it is expressed
in a united family. Mixed marriages are not successful in normal experience, whether the tensions
be caused by conflict between town a village, wealth and poverty, laxity and piety. Kinship has a
negative influence. Sikhs should marry someone whose family (got) as denoted by surname is the
same at the distance of the four grandparents.

The wedding will normally take place at the bride s village and may be celebrated on the flat
rooftop, in a courtyard, garden or in the gurdwara anywhere so long as the Guru Granth Sahib is

The Importance Of Social Cohesion
Australia flourishes in an environment of a variety of cultures. We pertain to the ideas of
acceptance and understanding of individuals that have the intention to become apart of team
Australia. But what do we know Australia as? A community of equal citizens Abbott declares
(The Conversation, 2014). We can all assume that we as individuals idealise a country of equity
and equality in all aspects of life, whether it be race, gender, beliefs or political views. In a world
where we want fairness and equality, we coin the concept of social and cultural cohesion, which can
be defined as the ties that hold people together (Humanrights.gov.au, 2017). Moreover, social
cohesion is regarded as a shared vision, and is a process rather than an outcome
(Scanlonfoundation.org.au, 2017). Jenson hypothesised a framework that identifies the
importances of social cohesion between individuals. He states that the disruption of social cohesion
effects dimensions of belonging, legitimacy, recognition, participation and inclusion (Study.com,
2017). In contrast to this we come across an unwanted prejudice and discrimination towards certain
aspects of life. We define this as cultural conflict, the conflict that occurs when different cultural
values and beliefs clash with opposing values and beliefs (LeBaron, 2003). In regards to Jenson s
framework of social cohesion, cultural conflict revolves around the five dimension. With disruption
to this, views are altered into a more negative outlook,

Antony And Cleopatra Comparison Essay
Antony and Cleopatra share a passionate love story, mixing business with pleasure. This results in
an inner conflict developing within Antony between what he perceives to be his two identities: the
lover and the general. Throughout the play, the lover is associated with death, whilst the general is
associated with Antony s sword and armor. Though he believes the two parts of him to be separate,
the text indicates that Antony is both lover and general at the same time through all of it. The
difference in the two identities lies in the accountability. As a general, Antony is accountable to
everyone and no one. His actions do not fall onto Caesar, thus he is accountable to no one, but his
soldiers rely on him to lead them to battle and victory;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antony appears to be the one in the relationship trying to keep things afloat and joyous, whilst
Cleopatra enjoys testing him and his love for her. In the beginning of the play, not long after the
couple is introduced, Cleopatra comments on Antony having married Fulvia and answering
Caesar, suggesting he has to leave and should leave. Antony, recognizing this as one of her many
tests, tells her for the love of Love and her soft hours, / [They should] not confound the time with
conference harsh . Despite Cleopatra s pushing, Antony remains unmoved. This exchange
demonstrates that Cleopatra and Antony are truly in charge of their relationship, and can affect
the dynamic as they please. However, it is clear that Cleopatra enjoys holding Antony
accountable for his actions whilst he is her lover, reproaching him for being married to Fulvia
and falling under Caesar s leadership. She shows this well when commenting on what news a
messenger has likely brought Antony: Where s Fulvia s process? Caesar s, I would say both? .
By bringing up his duties to his wife and Caesar, Cleopatra is testing Antony s love for her by
holding him accountable for his actions. Thus, as a general, Antony is accountable to himself,
whilst as a lover, he is accountable to

Taking a Look at Mine Warfare
Mine warfare is the strategic, operational, and tactical use of sea mines and the countermeasures
to defeat them. These weapons are so dangerous and efficient which is why foreign navies and
even terrorist possess these weapons. The history of these weapons goes back to 1776; a year
after our nation s Navy was born. A man named David Bushnell created a mine that was
composed of a watertight keg, filled with black powder and a flintlock detonator which was
suspended from a float (Levie). The kegs were first used in the Delaware River to destroy British
ships downriver during the Revolutionary War. Along with the creation of the floating mines,
Bushnell also created a drift model of the mines that exploded on contact. As time went on, the
Naval Branch increased in size and so did the evolution and use of mines. Around 1863,
Confederate Congress established the TorpedoService whose mission was to sow southern
waterways with the kegs, which were very inexpensive at the time. It was not until World War I
when mines were being laid across the seas in large amounts to prevent German U boats from
destroying our warships. Almost twenty five years later, during the Second World War, modern
magnetic, acoustic, and pressure sensitive mines were first developed. The deployment of mines by
submarineand aircraft suddenly came into play, which spark inventors to begin developing counter
measures. Along with these counter measures, the military begin to establish a base line by which all

Abstract Wireless sensor networks (WSN) is a key innovation for the wireless network
technology. It generally has a large number of sensor nodes with a power unit, a sensing unit, a
processing unit, a storage unit, and a wireless transmitter receiver. They are more vulnerable to
attack then wired ones due to its nature and resources limitations. So as to overcome this security
problems we can different types of Key Distribution and Hierarchical WSN. This paper gives more
solutions to all problems in security issues of the Networks.

(ii) Resource limitations on sensor nodes. (iii) Lack if fixed infrastructure. (iv) High risk of
physical attacks. (v) Unknown network topology prior to deployment. This is why it is tough to
secure WSN.
II.TERMS, DEFINITIONS AND NOTATIONS
Terms used in this paper are as follows:
key: symmetric key which is used to secure communication among two sensor nodes.
pair wise key: key which is used to unicast communication between a pair of sensor nodes.
group wise key: key which is used to secure multicast communication among a group of sensor
nodes .
network wise key: key which is used to secure broadcast messages.
III.NETWORK MODELS AND SECURITY REQUIREMENTS OF WSN
There are generally 2 types of architectures in WSNs. (i) Hierarchical and (ii) Distributed. In a
Hierarchical WSN, A base station is a gateway to another network with some other base station
to a data processing and storage center, or a human interface node point. Base point takes data
from sensors send it to processing unit and that data is sent to the human interface node point.
Therefore, base stations are used as key distribution centers as they are connected every other
node in network. Sensor nodes form a dense network in form of clusters where a cluster of
sensors lying in a specific area may provide similar or close readings of data. Not all node gets the
power from power unit few sensor nodes depend on the ad hoc communication to reach base
stations.

Lincoln and His Generals by T. Harry Williams
Harry T. Williams was born on May 19, 1909. When in college, he was encouraged by a professor
to study history. This professor s main interest was the Civil War era and had a great effect on
Williams. He attended Platteville State Teachers College (later WisconsinState University at
Platteville) where he received a B.Ed in 1931. Williams continued education into graduate school
was mainly due to the lack of work during the Great Depression. He went on to earn a Ph.M. in

When Lincoln interacted with Scott, he showed a deference for Scott s age and knowledge.
Thus allowing Scott to share his skills, this humility was shored by General McClellan. Lincoln
later changes his approach towards McClellan, trying to boost his confidence and courage.
Williams continually shows McClellan as an egotist, who eventually replaced Scott as General
in chief. McClellan is depicted as unsure, indecisive, self centered and fearful of declaring war.
Lincoln continually defends McClellan but is not afraid of tactfully sending criticism his way.
One could easily be lead to believe that Lincoln was more of a placator. Williams shows us that
Lincoln never hesitated in making difficult decisions based on results. Lincoln s people skills are
easily ascertained in Williams writings. Lincoln seems keen at applying pressure as well as giving
his generals a free hand when necessary.
Williams shows an interesting side of Lincoln s patience that wears thin when there are no early
victories and from the lack of aggressiveness on the Union side. Williams shows a gradual
transformation on Lincoln s selection process. Initially each general was selected on characteristics
such as battle experience and political backing. As the enemy holds out and there is inaction,
Lincoln starts to doubt the ability of his generals and starts to seek generals who can win without
excuses.
Williams captures the pressures that are placed

The Price Elasticity Of Demand
Price elasticity of demand is defined as a measure of the responsiveness or sensitivity of
consumers to changes in the price of a good or service (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 199).
Mathematically, the price elasticity of demand is calculated by dividing the percentage change in
quantity demanded by the percentage change in price. Demand is said to be elastic whenever the
absolute value of the percentage change in quantity demanded exceeds the percentage change in
price, which means the absolute value of the elasticitywould be greater than one. If the absolute
value of the price elasticity of demandis less than one, the demand is said to be inelastic, or less
sensitive to the price change. There are various factors that affect the price elasticity of products, in
the following sections these factors will be applied to the demand of desktop computers.
The first factor which is the most important determinant of price elasticity of demand is the
availability of substitutes (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 205). For any product where quality
substitutes are readily available, the price elasticity of demand will be high. For example, if the
price of desktop computers was to rise by 20%, the quantity of desktop computers demanded
would most likely decrease by a greater percentage. This is because consumers could easily go out
and purchase laptop computer or tablets to accomplish tasks for which they needed the desktop
computer. Likewise, if the price of desktop computer

Human Geography Chapter Summaries
Chapter one in the book, Human Geography, gives a timeline of the changes that have occurred
since the creation of planet Earth. The author, John Rennie Short, explained how truly powerful the
earth itself is. It has the ability to wipe out humanity. We often blame nature when natural disasters
happen, but perhaps the humanrace may have something to do with the cause of environmental
hazards like volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, and earthquakes.
Short went into depth when talking about the nine main plates of the Earth. The movement of these
plates have caused land to separate and changed the location of continents. A great example of the
power that these plates hold is when the Indo Australian plate and the Eurasian plate came together.

The Strategies For Development Today
Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on
the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in
the past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this
strategy to help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market
competition until they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy
worked successfully for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth
century, modern day strategies for development were of influence. Dominant strategies for
development used today are import substitution, state socialism, and... Show more content on

The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over
time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country
produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without
causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its
weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production
to manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a
tough situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not
become competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the
production of important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international
markets. Also, since domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this
reduces the motivation for technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the
international market, instead it made them remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates
market resources instead of allowing the market to regulate the supply and demand of the resources
is an alternative strategy for development called state socialism. This strategy spread after World
War II to

Humbert portrays Charlotte as an obstacle and wishes, for some terrific disaster where Charlotte is,

Charlotte as, The Haze women (Nabokov 47), the old cat p. (Nabokov 49), and the detested

to this parallel, Charlotte, like the evil fairy mothers and stepmothers in Cinderella and Snow White
hated her daughter (Jones 70).
Another interesting parallel also deals with Charlotte and the Queen or stepdaughter in Snow
White. Both of these characters are in competition with their daughters and stepdaughters for the
attention of the male. In Lolita, Humbert, overhears Charlotte and Lolita fighting over him (Jones
69). He states that he heard, a great banging of door and other sounds coming from quaking
caverns where the two rivals were having a ripping row (Nabokov 55). As for in Snow White, the
Queen constantly asks in the mirror who is the fairer of them all, herself or her daughter (Jones

opt to send them out to the wilderness. Nabokov s characterization of Charlotte as the jealous

Fingerprints Research Paper
The History of Fingerprints
Fingerprints offer a solid method for an individual s identification. This is the basis for
clarification of fingerprints and has since replaced techniques for identifying people who are
reluctant to admit previous arrests. (Moore, 2017) This essay will discuss the historical backdrop of
fingerprints as a science and timeline, the progression, and accomplishments.
The first known utilization of fingerprinting was in the fourteenth century Persia, where
government authorities utilized their fingerprints, similar to how signatures are utilized today.

Social Networking And Its Impact On The World
In 2011, Snapchat grasped the attention of millions of smartphone users across the world.
Consumers were ecstatic for the launch of the very first social networking application that would
allow people to send pictures and short videos, to a controlled group of people, for a few seconds
before they disappeared and never surfaced again. Snapchat was the first application that established
the idea of impermanent content, which gave consumers a sense of securitywhen sending content to
others. This was until a group of hackers found a way to hack into Snapchat servers, leading to the
company s first breach by publically publishing userdata on the Internet.

Issue:
Whether a minor child can file for asylum without the consent of a parent or legal guardian?
Rule:
8 U.S.C.A. В§ 1158 (West 2012) states any alien who is physically present in the United Statesor
who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an
alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United
States waters), irrespective of such alien s status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this
section or, where applicable, section 1225(b) of this title.
Analysis:
The main issues before the Court were two fold. First, could a six year old child apply for
asylum without a parent or legal guardian and secondly, did the INS overstep their authority in
denying the application for asylum. Statute 8 USC В§ 1158 states that any alien could apply for
asylum, however, the INS rejected that a six year old child had the mental capacity to make that
decision for himself. The INS interviewed both the Uncle Lazaro Gonzalez and the father Juan
Gonzalez and determined that the father was the legal guardian, therefore had the right to speak
for Elian Gonzalez. Elian s reasons for seeking asylum were fear of persecution . According to the
uncle, if Elian, were returned to Cuba,

J.D. Salinger s Catcher In The Rye and Burr Steers Igby...
Comparative Essay
The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger and Igby Goes Down by Burr Steers are both displayed
as rites of passage texts. The respective protagonists of these two texts are Igby Slocumb and
Holden Caulfield. These two characters are both on a journey motif, a journey of self discovery in
which they both attempt to find meaning in life and understand societies values and attitudes. The
two protagonists demonstrate non conformity and rebel against the apparent hypocrisy present in
their respective societies. Hypocrisy can be defined as the difference between illusion and reality, in
accordance to society it can be seen as people who are not who they appear to be, people who apply
a façade. This hypocrisy is present in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s awful. If I m on my way to the store to buy a magazine, even, and somebody asks me where I
m going, I m liable to say I m going to the opera. It s terrible. By Holden admitting to his lying
habits, he provides the responder with reason to believe that he applies a façade by expressing
false pretences. This quotation also provides the audience with reason to think that Holden is not
mentally healthy; this literary technique is called foreshadowing. The rebellious attitudes
demonstrated by both Holden and Igby represent their attitudes to the concept of hypocrisy. Igby
and Holden have similar values and beliefs which reject this idea of illuding reality. Holden rejects
all materialistic value and success which corroborates with Igby s attitudes in rejecting the
American Dream in which his Godfather, D.H., has achieved. Neither of these two characters view,
so called success, the way that the rest of society does.
Another aspect of the respective texts is how the two protagonists display their individuality in
order to separate themselves from everyone else, they desire to be unique. This perception of reality
is articulated through the symbolism in The Catcher In The Rye and the wardrobe and lighting
features utilised throughout the movie Igby Goes Down. Holden s red hunting hat becomes
inseparable from the image of Holden. This hat is perceived as a symbol of his uniqueness and
personality. The hat is outlandish, and it shows that Holden desires to

The Human Development Index Is Vast Improvement on...
The critical difference between most development models and human development index is that
most development models exclusively focus on the expansion of income while the human
development index embraces embraces the enlargement of all human choices economic, political,
social and cultural which all affect income. Comparing countries GNP (or GDP) per capita is the
most common way of assessing their level of development. This model of economic growth was
based on a very weak foundation that was not sustainable over the long term politically,
economically or ethically. Higher per capita income in a country does not always mean that its

It does not replace GDP, but it adds considerably to an understanding of the real position of a
society in several aspects, it is multi dimensional.
Poverty promotes vulnerability. By focusing on improving the education, health and skills of
people, it enables people to participate in the economy because there is a more equitable
distribution of income and assets, which results in a growth process as well as a share of benefits,
particularly through employment. Basically, if a country has already built up considerable human
capital then by choosing the correct policies and frameworks that allow the exploitation of these
capabilities, room for progress is created. Income is influx, consumption that at the end of a period
will leave an individual with the same amount goods as from the beginning of that particular period,
with expectations of future goods. This definition continues to embody my theory that the
development of human capabilities is a source of income. The human development index represents
the presumed link between expanding income and expanding human choices. In terms of longevity
and stability, quality and distribution of economic growth is more important than the rate of
economic growth over a short period of time. A link between growth and human lives must be
created, government spending on social services, and fiscal policies that allow social safety nets to

Possession And Use Of Marijuana
Possession and use of cannabis, also commonly known as marijuana, is considered illegal. For
years marijuana has been an illegal drug in most countries. In today s world a few countries have
legalized cannabis while others are still progressing toward it. In particular, small amount of
marijuana have been allowed in places such as Europe, North America and South America. In the
United States in particular, states such as Washington and Colorado have also legalized the usage of
marijuana for medical/recreational purposes. On the other hand, numerous penalties are enforced
pertaining the use or possession of cannabiswhere it is not legal. The chance of the penalties being
small are seldom; offenders often receive severe punishments. Possession of small quantities of
marijuana is not punished the same way as possession of large quantities of other illegal narcotics.
In this essay, there will be an in depth argument on the reasons why cannabis should be legalized,
and why it should not.
Firstly, cannabis should be legal and decriminalized since it is used for medication. Its legalization
means better and higher quality health standards. For example, Sativex is a recent marijuana
derived treatment that has been discovered to cure Multiple Sclerosis (Kmietowicz 89). The drug
has been used in the United Kingdom to treat patients, and it has been found to produce effective
results. Banning marijuana would be a disadvantage to people who suffer from diseases that use

The Importance Of Medication Errors
Introduction Medication errors result in over 700,000 emergency department visits each year in the
United States, and nearly two thirds of these hospitalizations are due to accidental overdose
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Missed doses or overdoses are one of the
problems related to medication safety (Anthony, 2015). A medication error is any act or occurrence
which causes or leads to a patient receiving inappropriate medication treatment (Potter Perry, 2014).
Errors can occur due to failure to follow procedures related to medication administration, lack of
communication between healthcare staff, deciphering illegible handwriting and underlying system
factors, such as distractions and time constraints (Potter Perry, 2014). Technological advances such
as networked computers and other innovations have been placed in hospitals to study its impact on
medication adherence; the following paper will compare and contrast these findings. First Article

Traditional Utilitarianism. According To Our Text,...
Traditional Utilitarianism According to our text, utilitarianism is a general term for any view that
holds that actions and policies should be evaluated based on the benefits and costs they will impose
on society (Velasquez, 2012). In any circumstance, the right activity or approach is the one that will
create the best net advantages or the most reduced net costs (when all options have just net
expenses). Furthermore, utilitarianismrule holds that any activity is morally right if and just if the

In any case, customary utilitarians would preclude that an activity from securing a specific kind is
dependably either right or off base. Rather, each activity would need to be measured given its
specific conditions. Utilitarian perspectives have additionally been exceedingly powerful in
financial aspects. A long line of business analysts, starting in the nineteenth century, contended that
monetary conduct could be clarified by expecting that individuals dependably endeavor to amplify
their utility and that the utilities of products can be measured by the costs individuals will pay for
them.
Ecological Ethic Ecological ethics is the moral view that nonhumans parts of the earth should be
saved for their own purpose, paying little mind to whether this gives individuals advantages.
Additionally, we people have an obligation to not hurt them without adequately genuine reasons.
There are a few assortments of biological morals, some more radical and expansive than others. The
most famous form asserts that, notwithstanding individuals, different creatures have natural esteem
and are meriting our regard and security. A few utilitarians, for example, Peter Singer, for instance
have claimed that agony is a shrewdness whether it is incurred on people or on individuals from
different species. Moreover, Singer contends that the torment experienced by a

In Bakke v Regents of the University of California, we have a landmark reverse discrimination
case that influenced education as a whole. Bakke was rejected from graduate school even though
he had superior scores than many of the African American applicants who were admitted. Bakke
challenged the University of California and overturned the quota system that had been established
in public universities across the nation. The University of California held on to the belief that
black people should have access to black doctors. However, if the University were to go on a sole
merit system then the number of special admittees would diminish along with the aforementioned
belief. This belief was quickly altered by the Supreme Court with their decision against the
University.
While the approach the Courts use is meant to be color blind, the outcome is anything but color
blind. This can be seen through an examination of the equal protection jurisprudence of Justice O

Canada s Economy And Tourism Industry
There are multiple measures of the performance of the country s economy and GDP is one among
them. GDP represents the total production output of the economy and it is the sum of individual
industries. One of these industries is tourism and this essay will explore the contribution it has
made on the example of Canada s economy and tourismindustry.
Canada s tourism industry is experiencing considerable redevelopment since 2002, which was
thought up by National Travel Coalition of Canada and Canada s Tourism Commission. By this,
Canada aims to regain the top 10 ranking in the world by number of arrivals by 2020. There are a
few challenges that need to be addressed. One is global cost competitiveness through illuminating
unnecessary charges and taxes assisted with visas and foreigner travel to Canada. Another one is
improved national infrastructure and addressed labour shortages within tourism industry.
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an important macroeconomics indicator used to measure the
performance of the economy. The basic formula for calculating the GDP is as follows:
GDP = C + I + G + (X M)
Where C is a consumption, I investment, G government expenditure, and (X M) is the difference
between the imports and exports. Fundamental assumption of the GDP is that spending in any of
these areas will increase the GDP and in turn, represent the increased growth of the economy.
However, some economists argue that GDP ignores the quality of the goods produced, efficiency

The first symbol that is very apparent is that of the eyes. The opening scene, before it leads us to
the Tyrell Corporation shows a close up of an eye. Also, when the thought to be replicants are
given the Voight Kompff test to see whether the individuals are actually human, a close
examination of their iris is given to identify any reaction. The eye can also show emotion that
the examiner is looking for since eyes are widely referred to as the windows to the soul. Another
theme that jumps out with the symbolism of eyes is how the replicants have a light up glow in
their eyes. In The scene where Rachel is introduced to Deckard inside the Tyrell building it seems
as if her eyes glow in a way. In this scene is also when we are introduced to a robotic owl the pet

Similarities And Differences Between Huckleberry Finn And...
Character Comparison of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer
In the book of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain creates two memorable characters as well as a
comparison of society and freedom. Main character Huck; is the rebellious son of the local
drunkard. He is stubborn, savage and he values freedom. As his friend and leader; Tom Sawyeris
very brave and recalcitrant, also an adventurous and great friend.
Huck is abducted by Pap, who is his drunken father. Pap captures Huck because he wants Huck s
$6000, Huck was given $6000 from the treasure he and Tom Sawyer found in The Adventures of

Huck finally gets rid of them, but is left to find his friend Jim, who got sold by the King. He ends
up at Tom Sawyer s Aunt Polly s house, where Tom and Huck rescues Jim.
Huck and Tom are very different in their lifestyles and have different personalities. Although
Huck and Tom share the bond in both being orphans, both boys mothers died when they were
still very young age and are way too smart for what they are doing; Tom lives under the care of
his civilised aunt, one who cares for him and who accepts his boyish mischiefs and behaviour.
She cares for his welfare and his wellbeing even though he often escapes home and goes. In
contrast, Huck Finn is unaided, he has no home, and his father is the town drunkard who utterly
disregards his son, when he is drunk, he often beats his son brutally. In the end of the book, Mr.
Jones is the first adult who ever took Huck into a private home.
While Tom can enjoy three meals a day supplied to him freely, Huck must scourge for food
himself and sometimes must sleep in a barn or just on the streets. Tom lives under the care of his
sympathetic aunt that provided him food, drinks and a cosy bed. Their attires are vastly
dissimilar; Tom is dressed like how an emblematic schoolboy would be outfitted, but Huck wears
thrown out sartorial held up by one buckle, and he often goes barefoot.
Tom goes to a respectable institute, attends Sunday school, and is invited to parties at other people
s house. Huck

Robert Downey Jr. is a well known American actor known for the roles in a wide range of films,
including Iron Man, The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and Chaplin. His background in movies
and acting arrived from his parents being around in the business. Nonetheless, the life of a
celebrity is not as sophisticated as it seems, especially for Robert Downey Jr who had a drug abuse
problem starting at a young age.

Robert Downey Jr s tackle with addiction began at the age of six years old. His father, Robert

December of that same year, the court concluded that Downey had violated his probation and Judge

between 1997 and 1998. Robert Downey Jr s time in jail was at a low security level, he was
placed as a normal inmate, where his presences resulted in numerous fights. Downey was an
objective of many fights due to his celebrity status and considering a pretty boy celebrity was not
helping. Many of the fights emerged in various cuts and abrasion. The altercation got serious
that he received a severe gash from three inmates and had to be moved to a solitary confinement.
After serving 113 days, Downey was released, and in 1998, he checks in a court ordered 120
days of a rehab program, where he remained on probation. In June 1999, he was ordered to a strict

Steel Mill Immigrants of Industrial America Essay
Steel Mill Immigrants of Industrial America
For many Americans, the late nineteenth century was a time of big business, marked by economic
and social evolution. In the period between the 1880 and 1920, the American economy was
growing at a rapid pace. Many European immigrants without industrial skills flooded into American
factories and steel mills. These new comer s came in search of better economic opportunity, which
paved the way for Heavy, low paying labor that became the job description of the era for many

The Theory, Organizational Behaviors, And The...
A learning organization is one that is able to transform its culture and behaviors from an occurred
situation. This includes the organization realizing a repeated pattern of behaviors that is not
growing or helping the organization in the right direction. When organizations admit to certain
truths or facts and acknowledge flawed behaviors, then change can start. Organizations attempt to
change by restructuring and reorganizing the company. Organizations learn only through
individuals who learn. Individual learning does not guarantee organizational learning but, without it
no organizational learning occurs (Senge 1990). Senge believed once an organization was in need

Organizations must reflect on the structure employees have to operate in and ensure it is conducive
to the image of a learning organization. People need the tools and guidance to understand the
situation and the newly created conditions. In order to reinvent yourself or the organization it will
require stepping out of our comfort zones for a learning organization to survive. This concept refers
to adaptive learning, which is necessary for the organization. However, adaptive learning is linked
to generative learning, learning that enriches our aptitude to create. Achieving a new culture and
environment involves understanding three kinds of stress discomfort, performance, and
disjunctive. Discomfort complexity and uncertainty of its environment, resource constraints and
difficulty securing finances, material, and workers. Performance expectations for success/failure
related to experiences, incentives, changes in preferences of leaders. Disjunctive violations of
norms regarding need for coordination and tolerance for conflict between and among individuals
and subgroups (pg85). The foundation for a learning organization requires transformation from both
individuals and organizations. One of the biggest challenges that must be overcome in any
organization is to identify and breakdown the ways people reason defensively. Until then, change

Analysis Of The Human Struggle In Native Guard And Heart...
Throughout its history, humanity has struggled to thrive in the face of the unstoppable forces of
evil, nature, and its own mortality. When examining the history of humanity and considering its
achievements, it is tempting to imagine that humans have achieved much as a species, that they
have made progress against the forces gathered in opposition to them. However, when the cost is
revealed, when the humanlife paid in the name of that meager progress is counted, the results seem
to pale in comparison. The graves of the dead serve as a monument to this grim reality; humanity s
efforts to combat the advance of human evil, nature, and death are in vain. Both Natasha Trethewey
and Joseph Conrad examine the futility of the human struggle in... Show more content on

In the poem Elegy for the Native Guards, Trethewey states that there are no names carved for the
Native Guards 2nd Regiment, Union men, black phalanx. What is monument to their legacy?
(Trethewey 44). They receive no honorable grave. They receive the most barbaric of burial rites,
doomed to have fish dart among their bones (Trethewey 44). The bodies of the native guard are
cast out of sight into the ocean, neglected in an attempt to forget the evils committed against them.
Their forgotten and neglected grave symbolizes the futility of fighting against the racism of
America, as well as the futility in concealing it; even when man has destroyed all other evidence,
the bones remain to testify to the past and remind the visitors that no change has been made in the
present. Humanity s discomfort with its past atrocities can never become powerful enough to
overcome the reminder represented by the graves of the fallen. Despite its efforts to conceal its
evil, the graves of the fallen Native Guard remind humanity that the past can never be defeated and
hidden. When Trethaway visits her mother s grave in the poem Monument, she notes the ants
digging up the earth in which her mother is buried. She remarks that the grave and the ant mound
serve as a reminder of what [she] hasn t done. Even now the mound is a blister on [her] heart, a red
and humming swarm (Trethewey 43). The

Tanning Beds Should NOT Be Banned
As spring comes and school dances appear, many teenagers are on a mission to get a tan. Not by
being outside, but going sunless tanning through artificial UV radiation. Tanning beds are the first
thing that pops into a teenage girl s mind this time of year. No matter how bad they want to be tan
for an event or for their summer vacation, minors should not be allowed to go indoor tanning. The
risks are far too important just to get the perfect look. Artificial tanning can be extremely harmful
to the body, especially to younger people, and is just as unhealthy as smoking is to the body.
The biggest concern with tanning unnaturally is the negative effects it has on the body. When
tanning through a tanning bed the body is being exposed to several fluorescent lights that transmits
ultraviolet radiation to produce a fake tan. According to THE EDITORS, Last year a systematic
review and meta analysis of 88 studies concluded that the beds lead to over 10,000 new cases of
melanoma the deadliest form of skin cancer every year in the U.S., Australia and Europe and as
many as 450,000 cases of other skin cancers (par. 4). The number of those cancer cases is ... Show

The younger the body is, the more fragile it is. According to THE EDITORS, ...the earlier UV
damage begins, the more time it has to add up and get worse. People who begin tanning before
the age of 35 have a melanoma risk that is at least 60 percent greater than those who start after
that age (par. 5). The facts of how bad it is for the body and how much the risk is for younger
people should be more than enough to prevent it. Putting up label warnings and needing parental
consent is not sufficient to alert the problems with minors fake tanning. The health of the youth is
far more important than skintones (THE EDITORS par. 7 8). More should be done to make
teenagers and parents aware of the terrible effects sunless tanning

Fair Value Accounting Is Worth Being Used
There have been many debates in previous decades amongst the investors, users of the financial
statements, on whether fair value accounting is worth being used. According to IFRS 13, fair
value is the price that would be received to sell an asset or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly
transaction between market participants at the measurement date . Usage of fair valuehas
advantages, however, it has disadvantages as well. This essay will discuss how fair value is more
advantageous than disadvantageous and how it is carried out. It will also examine how fair value
led Lehman Brothers, an American investment bank, into bankruptcy during the global financial
crisis and why the trend of fair value has emerged in the recent decades.... Show more content on

This is beneficial for the investors as it means that they can be confident that their decisions are
correct and that the finances of the business will not suddenly change.
Bubble prices can be an issue for investors as it may mislead them into making poor investing
decisions. There is plenty of empirical evidence to show that bubble prices exist (Ryan, 2008).
These price bubbles, according to Penman (2007), are introduced into financial statements through
the usage of fair value accounting. He goes on to say that this causes bubble gains to reflect on the
income statement, and these may, falsely, show the company as being healthy which could lull
investors into a false sense of security. These bubbles also result in the investor receiving
ineffective financial statements which will impair their decision making. An example of this would
be where investors pay prices that far exceed their own valuation (Scheinkman and Xiong, 2003).
This would make it tough for investors to earn a reasonable return on their investments. However,
the research fails to consider the difficulties locating price bubbles or how investors can prevent
themselves from being misled. It also fails to consider that bubble prices show the current trading
price, albeit inflated, and therefore show the true value of the investment according to current prices.

Christian Counseling And Caring For A Person s Soul
Christian Counseling in my eyes, is Christian based helping and caring for another person s soul
(Soul Care). Christian helpers are empowered by the Lord to be the eyes, ears, hands, and mouth of
Jesus to those in need. Journeying into another person s life and helping them with difficulties
cannot be taken lightly. Within John 13:14 15, Jesussays, Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have
washed your feet, you also should wash one another s feet. I have set you an example that you
should do as I have done for you. (NIV). Jesus also speaks in John 15:12 13, My command is this:
Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one s life for
one s friends (NIV). These verses are telling people to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Counseling sessions should be glorifying to God as we are trying to grow closer to God and
work through our life obstacles. Christian Counseling should bring hope into a dark world as we
apply our beliefs to our lives and work through struggles. As Ephesians 4:3 states, Make every
effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace (NIV). Biblical anthropology (the
nature of man) is an important aspect to consider while discussing the philosophy of Christian
Counseling. As I said before, Christian Counseling should be centered on Jesus, powered by the
Gospel, and shaped by scriptures. To know how to counsel from a Biblical perspective, we need
to know the nature of man according to the scriptures. To know the nature of man we have to
think back to the creation of man, man in the image of God, and man after the fall. On the sixth
day, God created the creatures on land. Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our
likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the
cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth (Gen. 1:26,
NIV). God created man in His own image and likeness. He blessed His creation for it was good.
Humanity was designed to be good. The origin of sin in human nature came in the Garden of Eden.
Adam and Eve were placed into paradise in the Garden of Eden and at this time of

  • 2. Theme Of In Our Time By Ernest Hemingway In Our Time: When Playing the Macho Man Leads to Stage FrightErnest Hemingway s collection of short stories, In Our Time, portrays multiple examples of men trying to prove their masculinity in exorbitant manners, only to be met with disgrace. Thomas Strychacz points out in his essay, Dramatizations of Manhood in Hemingway s In Our Time and The Sun Also Rises that Hemingway s male characters ...sense of self rests precariously upon the audience s decision to validate or reject ritual gestures toward manhood, (Strychacz 247). This concept reoccurs multiple times throughout the book, particularly in Nick Adam s father and the former fighting champion Ad Francis. In both cases, the men act in extravagant ways as a method to show their dominance, yet when placed in front of a new audience, it leads to their defeat and humiliation.Nick Adams father, a doctor, is one of the first characters Hemingway introduces who behaves in an exaggerated way to assert his authority. In Indian Camp , we see Nick s father perform an emergency caesarean section on an Indian woman who had been in labor for several days with a breached baby. In this story, the Doctor is shown as the brave, masculine hero . The woman s screams do not bother him, and he does not notice how gruesome and traumatizing this scene is to his young son. In fact, he finds the experience rather thrilling. Post operating, it says the doctor ...was feeling exalted and talkative as football players ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coke Scientific Paper A solution of coke is considered to be homogenous since it contains a uniform composition and furthermore, Coke is a mixture since its main ingredients can be broken down into various components such as sugars and carbonic acid. The term that determined the number of significant figures was the mass. The mass had four significant figures which led to the density having the same number of significant figures. The mass was chosen because it was measured using the analytical balance. Despite measuring the same amount of solution for all three volumetric glassware, it was revealed in this experiment that different glassware will give fluctuating recordings due to the different calibrations found within each glassware. It was deemed that the Buret provides the most precise density value among the three glassware utilized in the experiment. The Buret accumulated 0.34 % difference indicating high precision. While a medium will always be psychic, a psychic is not always a medium. The main objective of a mediums work is to prove survival of the human personality or spirit after death and to help the bereaved come to terms with their loss. Sacred forms of experience were scorned and disparaged and eventually a certain kind of science came to dominate our thinking; the old wisdom traditions were forced to take a back seat. Of course, it s easy to tote up the pluses of Science, which has freed us from ignorance and superstition, cleared the way to mastering the forces of nature, extended life and made things comfortable for the affluent in capitalist societies. On the other hand, according to the official view, consciousness peeps out momentarily, and is destined to vanish forever after death. Science has torn down the ancient myths, and made the implausibility of life after death an article of faith. The effects of these phenomena have a great impact on human society. When a mother loses a child it is always a tragedy, but when there are a lot of unanswered questions relating to his/her death, the help of a medium can lead to or bring closure to the family, enabling them to move forward. Also, the joint or extended family system is still the Indian norm. It is in this context, which can only be referred to in passing in this piece of coursework, that Sikh marriage must be understood. A Jat is likely to marry a Jat, an Arora an Arora, a Ramgarhia a Ramgarhia, but there are many exceptions. It is most important that a Sikh marries a Sikh. • 10. The Importance Of Social Cohesion Australia flourishes in an environment of a variety of cultures. We pertain to the ideas of acceptance and understanding of individuals that have the intention to become apart of team Australia. But what do we know Australia as? A community of equal citizens Abbott declares (The Conversation, 2014). We can all assume that we as individuals idealise a country of equity and equality in all aspects of life, whether it be race, gender, beliefs or political views. In a world where we want fairness and equality, we coin the concept of social and cultural cohesion, which can be defined as the ties that hold people together (Humanrights.gov.au, 2017). Moreover, social cohesion is regarded as a shared vision, and is a process rather than an outcome (Scanlonfoundation.org.au, 2017). Jenson hypothesised a framework that identifies the importances of social cohesion between individuals. He states that the disruption of social cohesion effects dimensions of belonging, legitimacy, recognition, participation and inclusion (Study.com, 2017). In contrast to this we come across an unwanted prejudice and discrimination towards certain aspects of life. We define this as cultural conflict, the conflict that occurs when different cultural values and beliefs clash with opposing values and beliefs (LeBaron, 2003). In regards to Jenson s framework of social cohesion, cultural conflict revolves around the five dimension. With disruption to this, views are altered into a more negative outlook, ... This supports that everyone should be allowed to use steroids while in competition because when the stakes are so high, everyone will always look for any opportunity to be better than rest, regardless of rules. So in that case, we should take away all the rules and let everyone do the drugs at their own risk. In relation to put at their own risk, steroids are surprisingly less dangerous than alcohol. Though he believes the two parts of him to be separate, the text indicates that Antony is both lover and general at the same time through all of it. Antony, recognizing this as one of her many tests, tells her for the love of Love and her soft hours, / [They should] not confound the time with conference harsh . Despite Cleopatra s pushing, Antony remains unmoved. This exchange demonstrates that Cleopatra and Antony are truly in charge of their relationship, and can affect the dynamic as they please. However, it is clear that Cleopatra enjoys holding Antony accountable for his actions whilst he is her lover, reproaching him for being married to Fulvia and falling under Caesar s leadership. A man named David Bushnell created a mine that was composed of a watertight keg, filled with black powder and a flintlock detonator which was suspended from a float (Levie). The kegs were first used in the Delaware River to destroy British ships downriver during the Revolutionary War. Along with the creation of the floating mines, Bushnell also created a drift model of the mines that exploded on contact. As time went on, the Naval Branch increased in size and so did the evolution and use of mines. Around 1863, Confederate Congress established the TorpedoService whose mission was to sow southern waterways with the kegs, which were very inexpensive at the time. It was not until World War I when mines were being laid across the seas in large amounts to prevent German U boats from destroying our warships. Almost twenty five years later, during the Second World War, modern magnetic, acoustic, and pressure sensitive mines were first developed. The deployment of mines by submarineand aircraft suddenly came into play, which spark inventors to begin developing counter measures. Along with these counter measures, the military begin to establish a base line by which all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It generally has a large number of sensor nodes with a power unit, a sensing unit, a processing unit, a storage unit, and a wireless transmitter receiver. They are more vulnerable to attack then wired ones due to its nature and resources limitations. So as to overcome this security problems we can different types of Key Distribution and Hierarchical WSN. This paper gives more solutions to all problems in security issues of the Networks. (v) Unknown network topology prior to deployment. This is why it is tough to secure WSN. II.TERMS, DEFINITIONS AND NOTATIONS Terms used in this paper are as follows: key: symmetric key which is used to secure communication among two sensor nodes. pair wise key: key which is used to unicast communication between a pair of sensor nodes. group wise key: key which is used to secure multicast communication among a group of sensor nodes . network wise key: key which is used to secure broadcast messages. III.NETWORK MODELS AND SECURITY REQUIREMENTS OF WSN There are generally 2 types of architectures in WSNs. (i) Hierarchical and (ii) Distributed. In a Hierarchical WSN, A base station is a gateway to another network with some other base station to a data processing and storage center, or a human interface node point. Base point takes data from sensors send it to processing unit and that data is sent to the human interface node point. Therefore, base stations are used as key distribution centers as they are connected every other node in network. Sensor nodes form a dense network in form of clusters where a cluster of sensors lying in a specific area may provide similar or close readings of data. Not all node gets the power from power unit few sensor nodes depend on the ad hoc communication to reach base stations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Lincoln and His Generals by T. Harry Williams Essay Lincoln and His Generals by T. Harry Williams Harry T. Williams was born on May 19, 1909. When in college, he was encouraged by a professor to study history. This professor s main interest was the Civil War era and had a great effect on Williams. He attended Platteville State Teachers College (later WisconsinState University at Platteville) where he received a B.Ed in 1931. Williams continued education into graduate school was mainly due to the lack of work during the Great Depression. He went on to earn a Ph.M. in 1932, and Ph.D. in 1937, from the University of Wisconsin (Dawson 431). When Lincoln interacted with Scott, he showed a deference for Scott s age and knowledge. Thus allowing Scott to share his skills, this humility was shored by General McClellan. Lincoln later changes his approach towards McClellan, trying to boost his confidence and courage. Williams continually shows McClellan as an egotist, who eventually replaced Scott as General in chief. McClellan is depicted as unsure, indecisive, self centered and fearful of declaring war. Lincoln continually defends McClellan but is not afraid of tactfully sending criticism his way. One could easily be lead to believe that Lincoln was more of a placator. Williams shows us that Lincoln never hesitated in making difficult decisions based on results. Lincoln s people skills are easily ascertained in Williams writings. Lincoln seems keen at applying pressure as well as giving his generals a free hand when necessary. Williams shows an interesting side of Lincoln s patience that wears thin when there are no early victories and from the lack of aggressiveness on the Union side. Williams shows a gradual transformation on Lincoln s selection process. Initially each general was selected on characteristics such as battle experience and political backing. As the enemy holds out and there is inaction, Lincoln starts to doubt the ability of his generals and starts to seek generals who can win without excuses. Williams captures the pressures that are placed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Price Elasticity Of Demand Price elasticity of demand is defined as a measure of the responsiveness or sensitivity of consumers to changes in the price of a good or service (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 199). Mathematically, the price elasticity of demand is calculated by dividing the percentage change in quantity demanded by the percentage change in price. Demand is said to be elastic whenever the absolute value of the percentage change in quantity demanded exceeds the percentage change in price, which means the absolute value of the elasticitywould be greater than one. If the absolute value of the price elasticity of demandis less than one, the demand is said to be inelastic, or less sensitive to the price change. There are various factors that affect the price elasticity of products, in the following sections these factors will be applied to the demand of desktop computers. The first factor which is the most important determinant of price elasticity of demand is the availability of substitutes (Thomas Maurice, 2012, pp. 205). For any product where quality substitutes are readily available, the price elasticity of demand will be high. For example, if the price of desktop computers was to rise by 20%, the quantity of desktop computers demanded would most likely decrease by a greater percentage. This is because consumers could easily go out and purchase laptop computer or tablets to accomplish tasks for which they needed the desktop computer. Likewise, if the price of desktop computer ... The Strategies For Development Today Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in the past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this strategy to help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market competition until they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy worked successfully for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth century, modern day strategies for development were of influence. The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production to manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a tough situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not become competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the production of important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international markets. Also, since domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this reduces the motivation for technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the international market, instead it made them remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates market resources instead of allowing the market to regulate the supply and demand of the resources is an alternative strategy for development called state socialism. Furthermore, utilitarianismrule holds that any activity is morally right if and just if the aggregate results of a similar demonstration are more than the results created by some other activity a specialist could have done in its place. As indicated by utilitarianism just a single activity is ideal in the last examination: the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In any case, customary utilitarians would preclude that an activity from securing a specific kind is dependably either right or off base. Rather, each activity would need to be measured given its specific conditions. Utilitarian perspectives have additionally been exceedingly powerful in financial aspects. A long line of business analysts, starting in the nineteenth century, contended that monetary conduct could be clarified by expecting that individuals dependably endeavor to amplify their utility and that the utilities of products can be measured by the costs individuals will pay for them. Ecological Ethic Ecological ethics is the moral view that nonhumans parts of the earth should be saved for their own purpose, paying little mind to whether this gives individuals advantages. Additionally, we people have an obligation to not hurt them without adequately genuine reasons. There are a few assortments of biological morals, some more radical and expansive than others. The most famous form asserts that, notwithstanding individuals, different creatures have natural esteem and are meriting our regard and security. A few utilitarians, for example, Peter Singer, for instance have claimed that agony is a shrewdness whether it is incurred on people or on individuals from different species. Has the Court overruled Regents v. Bakke, the charter for affirmative action in higher education? In Bakke v Regents of the University of California, we have a landmark reverse discrimination case that influenced education as a whole. Bakke was rejected from graduate school even though he had superior scores than many of the African American applicants who were admitted. Bakke challenged the University of California and overturned the quota system that had been established in public universities across the nation. The University of California held on to the belief that black people should have access to black doctors. However, if the University were to go on a sole merit system then the number of special admittees would diminish along with the aforementioned belief. This belief was quickly altered by the Supreme Court with their decision against the University. While the approach the Courts use is meant to be color blind, the outcome is anything but color blind. This can be seen through an examination of the equal protection jurisprudence of Justice O Connor, the pivotal swing vote on these issues in the last decade and author of the ... GDP represents the total production output of the economy and it is the sum of individual industries. One of these industries is tourism and this essay will explore the contribution it has made on the example of Canada s economy and tourismindustry. Canada s tourism industry is experiencing considerable redevelopment since 2002, which was thought up by National Travel Coalition of Canada and Canada s Tourism Commission. By this, Canada aims to regain the top 10 ranking in the world by number of arrivals by 2020. There are a few challenges that need to be addressed. One is global cost competitiveness through illuminating unnecessary charges and taxes assisted with visas and foreigner travel to Canada. Another one is improved national infrastructure and addressed labour shortages within tourism industry. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an important macroeconomics indicator used to measure the performance of the economy. The basic formula for calculating the GDP is as follows: GDP = C + I + G + (X M) Where C is a consumption, I investment, G government expenditure, and (X M) is the difference between the imports and exports. Fundamental assumption of the GDP is that spending in any of these areas will increase the GDP and in turn, represent the increased growth of the economy. Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth (Gen. 1:26, NIV). God created man in His own image and likeness. He blessed His creation for it was good. Humanity was designed to be good. The origin of sin in human nature came in the Garden of Eden.
