Ethnic Conflict Of The Soviet Union
Ethnic Conflict
With a long stemming past of ethnic conflict within Yugoslavia, the country at long last disassembled
over what historians would argue was The bloodiest war in Europe since World War II (Multi Ethnic
Conflict: Yugoslavia.). Yugoslavia was a country composed of six republics The socialist republic of
Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia, and Slovenia. The country was created
after world war one in 1929 and was under the control of the Soviet Union up until 1991 when the
Soviet Union broke apart. With the fall of the Soviet Union came the inevitable turmoil, violence and
destruction within Yugoslavia the country began to fall apart. Ethnic conflict had been the root of war
and violence through out numerous countries all around the world for centuries. The ethnic conflict of
Yugoslavia was caused by differences in religion and ethnicity, different perspectives on government
and politics, and disagreements over territory. Yugoslavia was just far too small for the different
nationalities and government structures within it. Yugoslavia has long suffered with problems
concerning religion and ethnicity. There was always a back and fourth tension between the ethnic
groups. During the 1930s it became apparent that the ethnic groups were unwilling to blend and merge
together. The Serbs who made up about 40 percent of the population dominated politics. The Croats
and Slovenes resented Serbian aggressiveness. These ethnic groups lived an

E commerce Legal Protections
The use of the internet for e commerce transactions is transforming the way people around the globe
purchase goods and services. While brick and mortar businesses struggle to keep their doors open,
businesses are responding by moving their goods and services online to reach the widest base of
consumers possible. In order to protect businesses and consumers, legal protections must be created
and enforced. Providing of overview of three of these protections along with proposing solutions to
enhance the protection of e commerce transactions will show the necessity of these legal protections.

All three laws mentioned above along with many others are aimed to give providers and users of
internet services protected against frivolous lawsuits and violations of rights. Without legislation like
this, use of the internet would be a lawless wild west fraught with crimes against end users and

Similarities Between The British East India Trading Company
The Dutch East India Trading Company and the British East India Company had several similarities
between the two. An obvious similarity was the fact that they were both trading companies that were
located within east India. Some other similarities include that they both traded raw materials. Another
similarity between the two was that they had people work on farms for them in order to get their cash
crops. Adding to the cash crops, many farmland would be taken over by cash crops. In doing so, the
cash crops brought great success and wealth to each of the trading companies; however, it also
brought the same difficulties to the people. People would have much of their farmland taken from
them in order for the plantation of cash crops. This would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Empire, the British East India Trading Company began to increase in success. As it continued its
growth, the British government began regulating it. For the most part, the British government did not
interfere with the East India Trading Company. The British East India Trading Company was
extremely useful when it came to raw resources. India was able to produce the resources needed by
the British. In addition, they created their own railroad network. With the railroad network, they were
able to transport their products. The railroad network had been a huge step up for the British East
India Trading Company. They were now able to transport plantation crops such as tea, indigo, coffee,
cotton, jute, and opium. Trade with many of these crops was because of international events. For
example, if a resource was limited at the time, India would make a large profit off of it if they could
provide it. In the end, the British East India Trading Company made life in India better. It led to the
modernization of India which allowed them to catch up with the rest of the

Position Paper: Western Medicine versus Traditional Medicine
The Limitations of Traditional Medicine from the Needs of the Society
In this time of modern technologies, we have found new ways of treating and curing disease.
However, traditional medicine that was derived from old cultures is still available. Some people still
prefer this kind of method, but some stick to conventional one which is the western medicine.
Western medicine is related to scientific method and emphasize measurable biochemical processes
that drive disease, treatment and health. It relies on new modern technologies to alleviate disease and
cure symptoms ( knowledgewharton , n.d.)

It can also help in controlling infectious disease. Modern advances have developed effective drugs for
managing heart disease, like diuretics, beta blockers and hypertensive (Jamison,2006). It can easy
alleviate the symptoms and discomfort of the patient so he/she can live normally. But also, it can also
use procedures to understand the underlying cause of the symptoms to cure or prevent. Advanced
medical devices can locate the problem through x rays, blood tests, etc.( benefits ,n.d.). Western
medicine is also flexible, you can store it in your household while traditional medicines can t ( debate ,
2011). The medicine is also specific for a certain illness.
When it comes to the asurance, and time,it is better to use the more improved and advnced one. It is
more convenient to use, easier, and more effective. Although, traditional medicine is an impressive
method too, it is still has some limitations. But one thing that could be better for the society, is the
incorporation of herbal plants into our modern medicines.

The Namesake Essay
The Namesake Theme and Cultural Values In the book The Namesake , the main character goes
through many struggles trying to find his true identity. The theme of the story is when two cultures are
introduced into a child s life, it can be hard for them to find their true identity. The character deals with
a lot of ups and downs trying to find who he is and what he wants to be in life. The struggles that
Gogol goes through are what everyday people go through during a lifetime. At the beginning of the
book, two bengalese parents, Ashima and Ashoke, have their first child and name him Gogol in order
to be released from the hospital. They have a tough time getting used to American customs and they

His father on the other hand thinks of the near death experience he had and the connection he has with
the name. The name is another struggle that Gogol has to go through in his life. When his father dies
later in the book, he begins to hate the name because of the connection it has with his father s near
death experience. But he doesn t really want to let go of it, for he thinks that he will totally leave the
culture that he grew up in behind. He also thinks he will just totally forget his father if he changes his
name. The struggles he has with his father are the fact that he totally can t decide where he wants to
go. He doesn t even go to the same university as his father, which really causes a lot of problems with
his father. When things get bad for Gogol, they get really worse. His wife even cheats on him with
another man. This causes an even greater struggle and internal pain for Gogol. He decides that they

The Government Of The United States
The government of the United States is divided into three parts the legislative, executive, and judicial
branches. The vast amount of control within this government is split between the aforementioned three
branches; and is also known as power. The definition of power as given by the Merriam Webster
dictionary is [the] ability to act or produce an effect , which in the instance of power within the
government would imply the ability to produce an effect on the economy or wellbeing of the United
States of America. The question is though, is this division of power equal? The Executive branch
employs more than four million people, the most famous being the President and the Cabinet. Their
powers and responsibilities include conducting diplomacy with other countries, the executive order,
nominating Supreme Court justices, and the enforcement of federal laws. Most of the power that the
Executive branch exerts comes from the executive order, an order given by the President in times of
national crisis that overrides almost everything; which can either be taken back by the President
himself or be declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, who is indirectly controlled by the
Executive branch. When one of the justices on the Supreme Court dies or is impeached by the
Legislative branch, the President is required to nominate a new justice; who must then be approved by
Congress to advance to the Supreme Court. This is just one of the ways that the Legislative

The War Film Genre
The war film genre includes films about warfare, including naval, air or land battles. Films in this
genre may focus on the battles, prisoners of war, military training, life during wartime or morality and
humanitarian issues of warfare. This genre commonly includes works of fiction, works based on
historical facts and occasionally works based on alternate history fiction. According to American
Cinema/American Culture, the genre also includes four narrative elements: the suspension of morality
during times of war, the prioritization of collective goals over individual motivations, the rivalry
between men and their objectification of women and the issues of reintegrating veterans. (Belton 165
71)
The 1986 Oscar winning film Platoon (Stone) is a classic example of this genre and why it is so
popular. As such, Platoon is a fictional work that follows Chris Taylor, a young American who gives
up college and volunteers for combat duty in Vietnam. Following Taylor s tour of Vietnam, the film s
main focus is not only his life during the war, but also the mortality issues he must find a way to deal
with. Furthermore, Platoon includes all four of the narrative elements necessary to fit into this genre.
The first and third narrative elements, the suspension of morality during times of war and the rivalry
between men, even though demonstrated throughout the film, really becomes prevalent when the
platoon discovers a food and weapons cache in a village. While searching this village,

Argumentative Essay On The 13th Amendment
By the time the sun barely peeks over the horizon, several others and I have been working the fields
for hours. We pick cotton until our fingers bleed. If my first strip isn t done before noon, the whip will
come slashing. If I complete my strip and take a break before moving on to the next section, the whip

slashing. When I was informed about the new amendment to the constitution tears welled up in my
eyes as I took a step towards freedom, or what I thought was freedom. The thirteenth amendment
brought forth the idea that slavery would be abolished. However, the congressmen left a loophole in
the amendment, allowing slavery to continue, but under another name. The thirteenth amendment was
the first to abolish slavery, or so people say. The thirteenth amendment reads, Neither slavery nor
involuntary servitude except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly
convicted shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction, the
constitution. This amendment could easily fool people into believing that all was right within the
world. However, soon after this amendment was added to the constitution unjust laws started to pop
up within the states, When slavery was legally abolished. A new set of laws called Black Codes
emerged to criminalize legal activity for African Americans. Through the enforcement of these laws,

Examples Of Oppression In Their Eyes Were Watching God
In 1791, Thomas Paine wrote the book Rights of Man, in which he expresses his thoughts on the unity
of the American people. Walter Russell, however, claims America has always been a division of man.
There has always been the conqueror and conquered the master and the slave the ruler and the ruled
the oppressor and the oppressed. There has never been content nor unity. There has been only
discontent and disunity . While in the United States there are people similar to Paine who strive for
freedom and diversity, there are also those, as Walter Russell illustrates, who promote racism,
violence, and disunity. Thomas Paine s viewpoint is mostly inaccurate because while there are times
of peace, justice, and concord, there are far greater instances of oppression, privilege, and riots in
America. Two examples of oppression in the America are illustrated in the novel, Their Eyes Were
Watching God, written by Zora Neale Hurston. In the novel, Janie, a black woman living in the post
civil war South, is oppressed by her husband, Logan Killicks. After Janie refuses to help him with the
farm work, he yells at her, Ah ll take holt uh dat ax and come in dere and kill yuh! You better dry up in

Racism Among Children Essay
In Finland and many western countries immigrants and some ethnic minorities are considered the
most likely victims of racism. Those studies which focus on immigrant children s experiences show
that in their everyday lives, RACE does indeed matter in many ways (e.g Howarth 2002, 2004;
Motsieloa 2003; Vestel 2004). However, in addition to immigrants and their children and people who
identify themselves as members of particular ethnic minorities, there is a growing number of children
of mixed parentage, many of whom may also face racism because of their visual difference ethnicity
or their name race , which may expose their transnational roots (e.g Gilbert 2005; Ifekwunigwe 2004;

In the context of this research the concept of racism covers both the old race theories (ideas of the
existence and hierarchies of races) and those racializing discourses and practices by which these
doctrines and other essentialist ideas of people and cultures are produced and reproduced. Even
though racism is not always intentional, the idea of power relations is also important here. Racism is
about some people having the power to use racializing and essentializing ideas of different people and
cultures against some other people. The consequences of racism can be identified on social and
cultural levels ( for example, in the unequal distribution of goods and services, in racializing
discourses and representations of peoples and cultures), in face to face interaction in everyday
encounters (se e.g Ahmed 2002) and on a subjective level as racialized

Symbolism In The Rabbits
The Rabbits The Rabbits, a picture book written by John Marsden and illustrated by Shaun Tan, is an
allegory for the British arriving in Australia and the subsequent colonisation. From the perspective of
the indigenous population, Marsden explores the impact of white settlement on the traditional
aboriginal way of life. This is achieved through the symbolism, colours and language. Symbolism is
used in many different ways to represent the colonisation of Australia. Numbats are a benign native
species and are used to symbolise the indigenous Australians who loved in harmony with the land for
more than 50 000 years, whereas rabbits symbolise the British as a destructive pest that devastates the
land. Towards the end of the story, kites are used to symbolise the stolen generations, the white kites

Rich ochre and shades of blue show the natural colours of the Australian land. As the story unfolds,
the colouring becomes dull. Colours such as sepia are used to show the life being drained from the
Numbats as their way of life is taken from them by the rabbits. By the end of the story, the pages are
grey and almost colourless to represent the smog and pollution the effect of the destruction that the
rabbits have brought. The language is quite simple, which represents the uncomplicated way
Aboriginals lived their lives by their own ways and tradition. Their tradition is evident through
phrases such as many grandparents ago, and old people warned us. This shows cultural difference and
respect for generational knowledge. By using words like brought and new , it s obvious that the things
the rabbits imported were causing damage, such as the pollution and illness. On the last page of the
book, a rhetorical question, Who will save us from the rabbits? shows how overpowered and helpless

California, California The Fresh Water
Introduction The Earth is a huge planet this is covered by 70 percent water. Astonishingly, from the 70
percent of the worlds water the human population can only use 1 percent because the rest of it is salt
water, frozen, or in some way unattainable (Santa Clara Valley Water District, 2016). Humans have
found many different ways to obtain this 1 percent of fresh water they need, but the techniques vary
depending on location. In San Jose, California the fresh water is obtained through 3 major sources:
groundwater, imported surface water, and local mountain surface water. These 3 sources contribute
different amounts of water to the San Jose community but their contribution can vary due to factors
such as weather and global warming. Imported surface water composes about 50 percent of San Jose s
water supply, while ground water composes roughly 40 percent, and local mountain surface water
composes approximately 10 percent (Santa Jose Water Company, 2016).
Groundwater
Groundwater is water that seeps through the ground and gets stored underground. The supply of
groundwater is always changing because it is constantly used and replenished. The groundwater
supply replenishes and grows due to rain and snow melt and can decrease due to things like droughts
and heavy usage. Depending on the type of surface of the ground as much as 20 percent of the rain
and snow melt can seep into the ground or as little as 5 percent (Raymond, 1988). Areas where as

This will give the employees an additional reason to excel in the job they are to complete. The

Abstract/Summary
In this experiment the SI and English standard measurement systems were used to learn how to
convert one unit of measurement to another through the use of measurement instrumentation. A
centimeter ruler was used to measure both inanimate objects such as a lab table, and a window as well
as body measurements on multiple people within the group. The measurements were used in finding
the perimeter, area and volume of each of the objects. This experiment taught how to express scientific
figures for data and results. As multiple measurements were taken precision and accuracy became
greater. This data was used to determine ratios and percent errors.

should remain inflated when they use it, without causing any unreasonable danger or harm.
Secondly, Aloe can allege for negligence which lead to the wrongful death of his wife because Toys R

addition, Toys R Us are negligent for having only one employee in their safety assurance department
who received approximately 4,000 certificates of this kind per month.
Furthermore, Aloe could also make a strong argument by imposing strict liability in tort on Toys R Us

socialism, is, in my view, the only anarchism that can ever work. To arrive at an anarcho pacifist /
anarcho socialist society, we as a global community must undergo great psychological transformation.
Only then can anarchism become a practical ideology for the world.
However, we as individuals need not wait for all humanity to find anarchy before we can have anarchy
for ourselves. We can manifest anarchy within our own circles of being, individually, here and now;
thus becoming individually liberated.
The anarchist truly has the best political deal. Whereas the fascist depends upon a fascist government
to have fascism, the state socialist upon a socialistic government to have socialism, the democrat upon
a democratic government to have democracy, and the libertarian capitalist upon a libertarian
government to have laissez faire capitalism, the anarchist can choose to have anarchy, here and now,
without any government.
Anarchy, the way I see it, is a personal choice, depending on nothing but one s own true will. If one
wants anarchy for oneself, one can have it, regardless of the political system society has. All the
anarchist needs to do

How Did Sir Humphry Davy Contribute To Chemistry
Sir Humphy Davy had many essential contributions to the study of chemistry and the periodic table of
elements. Sir Humphry Davy was a chemist from the late 18th and early 19th century from England.
His contributions and experiments were remarkably important to the discovery of various elements,
and his work with various gases. Sir Humphry Davy was born on December 17, 1778 and raised in
Penzance, Cornwall, England. At a young age, Davy was apprenticed to be a surgeon at 16 after he
had lost his father, and then was educated at Penzance and Truron in Cornwall for medicine. Davy was
a very intelligent child and grew to become a very successful chemist. He was first introduced to

Davy was accepted into the Royal Society, the oldest scientific academy for the fellowship of the the
world s most eminent scientist, (royal society). He discovered electrolysis, the interactions of electric
currents with compound, which led to the isolation of sodium and potassium. Davy also used
electrochemistry to isolate the elements of the alkaline earth metals: boron, barium, strontium,
magnesium, and calcium. Davy was able to isolate the alkaline earth metals by using using batteries
made out of voltaic pile, and using the electric charge to separate the elements from their compounds.
His concept of electrolytic apparatus was he connected the battery to metallic disks that were dipped
into a liquid of the compound that he wanted separate (1, Kenyon). Davy alloyed the compound with
mercury so the water itself was not separated, and was able to produce with a current, small clumps of
the alkaline earth metals.(1, Kenyon) He also discovered boron, hydrogen telluride, and hydrogen
phosphide (phosphine)(Gibbs). He also worked with chlorine to prove that Lavoisier s theory that all
acids contained oxygen, but failed to due so because he did not know that chlorine was actually a
chemical element. Davy was a majorly important to the isolation of multiple elements on the periodic

Jim Crow Newspapers
After the end of Reconstruction in the Southern United States, many emancipated slaves looked to the
North for a number of opportunities that evaded them in the Jim Crow south. Either individually, as a
family, or sometimes as a whole community, African Americans made their way to more northern
states. The ability to move not just from plantation to plantation but now around the entire country as
well as own land, and receive and education in order to earn a skilled labor job were hallmarks of the
newly free group. Newspapers became important staples in these new, majority black communities.

Life of a Correctional Officer
LIFE OF A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER
CRJ: 303 Corrections
17 March 2013
Abstract
The life of a correctional officer is something that is easily over looked. Not understanding or
knowing the intricate details that go into what it actually takes to coexist with incarcerated inmates is
one of the reasons that the general public is able to go about their daily lives, not thinking or
wondering how those inmates are controlled. Correctional officers have one of the hardest jobs on the
planet, having to work with prison inmates on a daily basis and not knowing when something may
happen that could endanger themselves or their fellow correctional officers. Keywords: daily,

Some of the Correctional Officer functions are, to enforce and keep order, they supervise activities of
inmates, aid in rehabilitation and counseling of offenders, routinely search inmates for contraband
items, and often report on inmates conduct on a day to day basis. While the daily duties of a
correctional officer can truly be viewed as the proverbial daily grind , they often have to perform these
prison duties while dealing with stressful and often times very dangerous situations. While most of us
on the outside world try to make a routine day more enjoyable, routine for the correctional officers
within the prison is not a negative thing in the least, as a routine day is very important to the
successful operation of a correctional facility. Routine in a prison environment is the consistent,
scheduled, and expected activities that make up the day within a prison (Seiter, 2011).
The daily grind for correctional officers include specific assignments that can be anything from
supervising inmates on a work crew or in a housing area to a non inmate contact job in a tower or
control center. Some of the different categories of correctional officers assignments include living
units, work detail supervisors, industrial shop and school officers, administration building

After Pi kills one of the flying fish, he becomes a different person. Pi describes that as he is killing the

are a few different theories of why hyperglycemia cause tissue damage. One cause is caused by the

grumpy and have trouble concentrating. However, a nap could help them make fewer mistakes and
boost their mental performance. So you should try to get the right amount for your age group, or else
you will suffer these negative effects. Luckily, napping can help you regain lost sleep, help you focus,

Deeper Than Words: Communication in A Thousand Years of Good Prayer, by Yiyun Li There are
those who have a difficult time expressing themselves with words. It is as though there is a
communication barrier between people even if they are speaking the same language. The struggle for
successful communication can be even harder if different languages are spoken. Even if there are no
words spoken, communication between two people still occurs. Yiyun Li s short story A Thousand

Product/Customer focus. This concept underscores an understanding of the two most important
elements in any business products and customers. While it is important to think about management,

One major limitation to Curved seawalls or seawalls in general is that they ruin the view and scene for
tourists. Although, seawalls protect and prevent any harm to human residence, a big tall concrete
structure instead of an open area with a view will ruin the tourist attraction in an area. Coming to a
beach, people and especially tourists would expect to have a beautiful scene with nothing blocking
their sight. Would a concrete wall ruin tourists view on shorelines or beaches? This connects to a
social aspect as people want to enjoy and have fun at the beach with sunny weather and also a great
view, but with a big concrete wall, tourists and people would not feel that welcomed. This also
connects to Beach reviews online as tourists might comment something negative about the scene and

Many people live under this legal system that is based on Islam which some private parts of life are

This one is resulting from the religious principles of Islam, mainly the Quran and the Hadith.
However, Sharia law is the law of Islam, This law is originally based on the actions and words of
Muhammad, which are named Sunnah, and the Quran, that he wrote (2016). The Sharia law covers
numerous of topics while some others may deal with public behavior, private behavior and private

Examples Of Sorrow In The Odyssey
Can you know true happiness without knowing sorrow? Happiness is a subjective emotion. Some
people say they cannot be happy without first experiencing bad things. I do not think this is entirely
true. Babies know happiness when they get to play with their favorite toy or when they see something
new that excites them. Now some might argue that babies have experienced sorrow or unhappiness
when they are crying however, I think their short attention span makes them forget sorrow much easier
than happiness.

Dada was a radical art movement started in 1914 and ended in the mid 1920 s mainly in the North

express a new kind of mentality in the world of art and politics at the time. Dada was the reaction and
rejection of traditional society and the atrocities of World War 1 by artist of that era. It reflected their
desire to oppose convention and boundaries and establish art in a new light, breaking down

Dadaists pushed anarchy in their disgust with the government and the destruction the war caused on
their lives. Art was used to enforce political motives rather than portray conventionally accepted forms
of art. The Dadaist focus was to involve the audience into critical thinking that they hope would
stimulate a social revolution. Artists in Berlin included Johannes Baader, Hannah Hoch, George Gzosz
and Raoul Hausmann. Their art signified and encouraged revolution and independence, it comprised
of a lot of collage, typography and photomontage techniques all with the purpose of breaking away
from traditional canonized art.
Spontaneity in art was a significant feature in Dada. It was representative of Dada s breaking away
from constraints and we saw this in Dada s love for collage which is random and easily assembled
allowing the release of an easy flow of creative ideas, they believed that traditional art at that time,
being oil paintings, required a lot of time spent on perfecting imagery which negated and stifled the
artists ability to follow subconscious impulses. Collages and other Dada art were works that disturb or
humiliate traditional concepts of art .
In Cologne, Max Ernst and Hans Arp used Dada for its innovation and unconventional self

William Blake Syntax
Through diction, figurative language and imagery, and syntax, William Blake conveys an intense and
curious tone, revealing the doubt of whether or not human power was given by a higher being. The
author, William Blake, uses connotation to make his audience understand what the true subject of the
poem that he refers to is. For example, the word, tyger, in this poem is not specifying an actual tiger,
but is used to represent humans. When Blake says, thy fearful symmetry, he is giving the tyger the
characteristics of strength and power. Humans, as well, are strong and have the potential to create a
big impact on the world, just as tigers do in the wild. Overall, the main focus of this poem is who the
creator of the tyger is. This is supported with And what shoulder, what art/ Could twist the sinews of

question marks also adds the effect of curiosity in a more visual way. There is one exclamation point

Therefore, a number of studies have depicted the need for BC screening/early detection in LMICs to

mammography has remained the main examination of BC screening throughout the world. Adequate
evidence exists from some randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that mammography screening is

might lean more to the thought of the person being a female. If still nothing was said about their
gender, but it was also stated that the person was wearing a tight pair of shorts and a hot pink crop top
shirt that exposed their stomach, almost everyone would assume a female was being described.
However, if you were to drive down Archer, or 13th street in Gainesville Florida at the right time you
would possibly have to do a double take at the person performing on the side of the road. All of the
descriptions listed above are describing a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, not all rich people are cold and not all poor people have big hearts, which is the case with
all stereotypes, not everyone actually falls into the group you may categorize them into. It is thought
that stereotypes are a set of group beliefs and that frequently those who socialize together tend to share
the same set of stereotypes. Stereotypes can serve as a cognitive function on an interpersonal level, as
well as a social function on an intergroup level. For stereotyping to work in an intergroup situation an
individual must see themselves as part of a group and being a part of the group must be important to
that individual. Craig McGarty, Russell Spears, and Vincent Y. Yzerbyt (2002) argued that the
cognitive functions of stereotyping are best understood in relation to its social functions, and vice
versa.
The next question to ask ourselves is, why do stereotypes form? If how stereotypes form stems either
from being a learned behavior or as a way for us to group information, why do they persist even when
we know better? Research has shown that stereotypes can develop based on a cognitive mechanism
known as illusory correlation, which is an erroneous inference about the relationship between two
events. If two events that are statistically infrequent occur at the same time observers will
overestimate the frequency at which these events occur together. Events

What Does It Means To Be Cool
Cool Man! How do you define cool? What does it mean to be cool? I m talking about being, In with
the in crowd cool. Growing up the word cool, was not in the language yet as far as being defined far
out cool. I actually didn t start perceiving Cool until the1960s when the Hippies started saying it to
each other. I started using it when no one I knew was around me to hear me say it. I thought I was cool
saying it but not sure if I was qualified to use it, not being sure if I were cool. I found out that I might
have not been cool when others started laughing at me for interjecting Cool man! during
conversations. I still wanted to be cool, so I looked for other things that were cool to be involved in. In
the movie The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, I watched Clint Eastwood with that little cigar in his
mouth. I was in complete awe, Now that s cool I thought. The next day I got myself some of those
little stogies, popped one into my mouth and looked into the mirror. I expected to see a Clint
Eastwood facsimile looking back at me, instead I saw a blame fool, not cool at all. The little stogies
didn t help me, but still I wanted to be cool. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hoping to find a cool dude looking at me. It was just the same idiot before with the little stogie cigar.

Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on July 4, 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts. His ancestors were some of
the first settlers in Massachusetts and included a judge in the Salem witchcraft trials of 1692.
Hawthorne s sea captain father in 1808 in Surinam of yellow fever. After his death, Hawthorne s
mother, Elizabeth Manning Hawthorne, moved with her three children into the Manning s commodity

It was published by the Boston house of Ticknor, Reed, and Fields in 1850. Even though some
reviewers labeled The Scarlet Letter that morbid, it was still s s literary sensation in both the United
States and Great Britain. After The Scarlet Letter was published, Hawthorne moved to Lenox,
Massachusetts, in the Berkshire Mountains. He stayed in Lenox for a year and a half. During his time
there, he established a complicated relationship with Herman Melville. Melville even dedicated Moby
Dick to Hawthorne. Eventually their friendship faded and their paths did not cross after 1852, when
Hawthorne moved to West Newton and then to Concord. Hawthorne was very productive in the early
1850s, producing presidential campaign biography of his friend Franklin Pierce. After winning, Pierce
appointed Hawthorne consul at Liverpool. He remained in Europe, had his third child, Rose, in 1850,
and resigned his position in early Hawthorne and his family took a trip to Italy where Una, his first

Do Managers Have the Right to Seek Control over Their...
Case Study 1
Question: Do managers have the right to seek control over their employees? Does anyone, for that
matter, have their right to control others? Does control imply manipulation? And if so, is there
anything wrong with managers manipulating employees through goal setting or other motivational
Manipulation is getting what you want by ignoring or harming the desires of others. Manipulators use
charm, persuasion, coaxing, trickery, and misdirection. The underlying idea is I have to fool people to
make them give me what I want. We can catch ourselves falling into this behavior when you aren t
listening to other people, when you ignore what they want and when you pretend that your desires cost
nobody else a price. There are also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Control is an obvious action to handle while manipulation is much more without knowing toward the
person. When people says about manipulation, they would mostly says that it is either a person lie or
withhold the truth to get someone to change themselves, giving them the false illusion of choice. As
for control, they would says that it is way more like blocking a person s way to go or do.
For my own opinion, there is no wrong with managers manipulating employees through goal setting
or other motivational techniques, but it has to depend on how much a manager manipulate. An
appropriate manipulation would give benefits to everyone. For example, a manager handles an
organization by lying employees without their knowing to reach the target. It does not represent that
the manager did not set limitation on the organization, but using a way more not knowing by
employees to ensure that they would not challenge on risky projects. The goal setting would be
determined by manager to reach by manipulating. Beside manipulation, managers do have their own
ways to reach the goal setting as well. Some of the managers prefer control employees than
manipulating them. It is because manipulation is much more high risks than control employees works.
For example, manager may set budget on the project to avoid high risks burden to hold. It is not to say
that it is bad outcomes, but employees may be not satisfied and could not develop a better idea.
Someone may think that manipulation is

is still very debatable.
The last time a global survey for homelessness was attempted by the United Nations in 2005, an
estimated 100 million people were homeless worldwide. As many as 1.6 billion people lacked
adequate housing. [1] In the United States, on a single night in January 2015, 564,708 people were
experiencing homelessness meaning they were sleeping outside or in an emergency shelter or
transitional housing program. [2] In 2013, the Slum population in India went up from 52 million to 65
million and it has been predicted to rise to 104 million. [3] Looking at the statistics, the main cause for
homelessness could be contributed to the cost of affordable housing. Another example that could be
considered could be of people living in disaster prone areas where people lose their houses overnight.
In such scenarios, 3D printing could be a viable solution where houses could be printed in a couple of
days as compared to traditional construction methods where people need to seek out emergency
shelters till their houses are built. Also, 3D printing a house gives Architects ability to design and build
structures which are complex

There was always a back and fourth tension between the ethnic groups. During the 1930s it became apparent that the ethnic groups were unwilling to blend and merge together. The railroad network had been a huge step up for the British East India Trading Company. They were now able to transport plantation crops such as tea, indigo, coffee, cotton, jute, and opium. Trade with many of these crops was because of international events. For example, if a resource was limited at the time, India would make a large profit off of it if they could provide it. • 8. The Government Of The United States The government of the United States is divided into three parts the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. The vast amount of control within this government is split between the aforementioned three branches; and is also known as power. The definition of power as given by the Merriam Webster dictionary is [the] ability to act or produce an effect , which in the instance of power within the government would imply the ability to produce an effect on the economy or wellbeing of the United States of America. The question is though, is this division of power equal? The Executive branch employs more than four million people, the most famous being the President and the Cabinet. Their powers and responsibilities include conducting diplomacy with other countries, the executive order, nominating Supreme Court justices, and the enforcement of federal laws. Most of the power that the Executive branch exerts comes from the executive order, an order given by the President in times of national crisis that overrides almost everything; which can either be taken back by the President himself or be declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, who is indirectly controlled by the Executive branch. When one of the justices on the Supreme Court dies or is impeached by the Legislative branch, the President is required to nominate a new justice; who must then be approved by Congress to advance to the Supreme Court. Films in this genre may focus on the battles, prisoners of war, military training, life during wartime or morality and humanitarian issues of warfare. This genre commonly includes works of fiction, works based on historical facts and occasionally works based on alternate history fiction. According to American Cinema/American Culture, the genre also includes four narrative elements: the suspension of morality during times of war, the prioritization of collective goals over individual motivations, the rivalry between men and their objectification of women and the issues of reintegrating veterans. (Belton 165 71) The 1986 Oscar winning film Platoon (Stone) is a classic example of this genre and why it is so popular. As such, Platoon is a fictional work that follows Chris Taylor, a young American who gives up college and volunteers for combat duty in Vietnam. Following Taylor s tour of Vietnam, the film s main focus is not only his life during the war, but also the mortality issues he must find a way to deal with. Furthermore, Platoon includes all four of the narrative elements necessary to fit into this genre. The thirteenth amendment brought forth the idea that slavery would be abolished. However, the congressmen left a loophole in the amendment, allowing slavery to continue, but under another name. The thirteenth amendment was the first to abolish slavery, or so people say. The thirteenth amendment reads, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction, the constitution. This amendment could easily fool people into believing that all was right within the world. • 12. Examples Of Oppression In Their Eyes Were Watching God In 1791, Thomas Paine wrote the book Rights of Man, in which he expresses his thoughts on the unity of the American people. Walter Russell, however, claims America has always been a division of man. There has always been the conqueror and conquered the master and the slave the ruler and the ruled the oppressor and the oppressed. There has never been content nor unity. There has been only discontent and disunity . While in the United States there are people similar to Paine who strive for freedom and diversity, there are also those, as Walter Russell illustrates, who promote racism, violence, and disunity. Thomas Paine s viewpoint is mostly inaccurate because while there are times of peace, justice, and concord, there are far greater instances of oppression, privilege, and riots in America. Two examples of oppression in the America are illustrated in the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, written by Zora Neale Hurston. Symbolism In The Rabbits The Rabbits The Rabbits, a picture book written by John Marsden and illustrated by Shaun Tan, is an allegory for the British arriving in Australia and the subsequent colonisation. From the perspective of the indigenous population, Marsden explores the impact of white settlement on the traditional aboriginal way of life. This is achieved through the symbolism, colours and language. Symbolism is used in many different ways to represent the colonisation of Australia. Numbats are a benign native species and are used to symbolise the indigenous Australians who loved in harmony with the land for more than 50 000 years, whereas rabbits symbolise the British as a destructive pest that devastates the land. The language is quite simple, which represents the uncomplicated way Aboriginals lived their lives by their own ways and tradition. Astonishingly, from the 70 percent of the worlds water the human population can only use 1 percent because the rest of it is salt water, frozen, or in some way unattainable (Santa Clara Valley Water District, 2016). Humans have found many different ways to obtain this 1 percent of fresh water they need, but the techniques vary depending on location. In San Jose, California the fresh water is obtained through 3 major sources: groundwater, imported surface water, and local mountain surface water. These 3 sources contribute different amounts of water to the San Jose community but their contribution can vary due to factors such as weather and global warming. Imported surface water composes about 50 percent of San Jose s water supply, while ground water composes roughly 40 percent, and local mountain surface water composes approximately 10 percent (Santa Jose Water Company, 2016). Groundwater Groundwater is water that seeps through the ground and gets stored underground. The supply of groundwater is always changing because it is constantly used and replenished. The groundwater supply replenishes and grows due to rain and snow melt and can decrease due to things like droughts and heavy usage. Secondly, Aloe can allege for negligence which lead to the wrongful death of his wife because Toys R Us did not follow the required testing procedures for compliance with Federal Safety Standard. In addition, Toys R Us are negligent for having only one employee in their safety assurance department who received approximately 4,000 certificates of this kind per month. Furthermore, Aloe could also make a strong argument by imposing strict liability in tort on Toys R Us for personal injuries that result from selling a defective product with design defect that is unreasonably dangerous to the consumer without proper testing and compliance with Federal safety standard for such products. Aloe could also appeal for both compensatory and punitive damages for the loss which could be economic (such as lost income, medical expense) or non economic (such as pain and suffering and loss of consortium, meaning the loss of someone s active presence and enjoyment in their life). An enlightened and benevolent anarchism, such as expressed by the terms, anarcho pacifism / anarcho socialism, is, in my view, the only anarchism that can ever work. To arrive at an anarcho pacifist / anarcho socialist society, we as a global community must undergo great psychological transformation. Only then can anarchism become a practical ideology for the world. However, we as individuals need not wait for all humanity to find anarchy before we can have anarchy for ourselves. We can manifest anarchy within our own circles of being, individually, here and now; thus becoming individually liberated. The anarchist truly has the best political deal. Whereas the fascist depends upon a fascist government to have fascism, the state socialist upon a socialistic government to have socialism, the democrat upon a democratic government to have democracy, and the libertarian capitalist upon a libertarian government to have laissez faire capitalism, the anarchist can choose to have anarchy, here and now, without any government. • 41. Negative Consequences of Sterotyping If someone was to describe a person as tall and athletic, you could assume that person to be either male or female. If added to that description was that they liked to dance and wore tight clothing, one might lean more to the thought of the person being a female. If still nothing was said about their gender, but it was also stated that the person was wearing a tight pair of shorts and a hot pink crop top shirt that exposed their stomach, almost everyone would assume a female was being described. However, if you were to drive down Archer, or 13th street in Gainesville Florida at the right time you would possibly have to do a double take at the person performing on the side of the road. Of course, not all rich people are cold and not all poor people have big hearts, which is the case with all stereotypes, not everyone actually falls into the group you may categorize them into. It is thought that stereotypes are a set of group beliefs and that frequently those who socialize together tend to share the same set of stereotypes. Stereotypes can serve as a cognitive function on an interpersonal level, as well as a social function on an intergroup level. For stereotyping to work in an intergroup situation an individual must see themselves as part of a group and being a part of the group must be important to that individual. Craig McGarty, Russell Spears, and Vincent Y. Yzerbyt (2002) argued that the cognitive functions of stereotyping are best understood in relation to its social functions, and vice versa. The next question to ask ourselves is, why do stereotypes form? If how stereotypes form stems either from being a learned behavior or as a way for us to group information, why do they persist even when we know better? Research has shown that stereotypes can develop based on a cognitive mechanism known as illusory correlation, which is an erroneous inference about the relationship between two events. If two events that are statistically infrequent occur at the same time observers will overestimate the frequency at which these events occur together. Events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Do Managers Have the Right to Seek Control over Their... Case Study 1 Question: Do managers have the right to seek control over their employees? Does anyone, for that matter, have their right to control others? Does control imply manipulation? And if so, is there anything wrong with managers manipulating employees through goal setting or other motivational Manipulation is getting what you want by ignoring or harming the desires of others. Manipulators use charm, persuasion, coaxing, trickery, and misdirection. The underlying idea is I have to fool people to make them give me what I want. We can catch ourselves falling into this behavior when you aren t listening to other people, when you ignore what they want and when you pretend that your desires cost nobody else a price. There are also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Control is an obvious action to handle while manipulation is much more without knowing toward the person. When people says about manipulation, they would mostly says that it is either a person lie or withhold the truth to get someone to change themselves, giving them the false illusion of choice. As for control, they would says that it is way more like blocking a person s way to go or do. For my own opinion, there is no wrong with managers manipulating employees through goal setting or other motivational techniques, but it has to depend on how much a manager manipulate. An appropriate manipulation would give benefits to everyone. For example, a manager handles an organization by lying employees without their knowing to reach the target. It does not represent that the manager did not set limitation on the organization, but using a way more not knowing by employees to ensure that they would not challenge on risky projects. The goal setting would be determined by manager to reach by manipulating. Beside manipulation, managers do have their own ways to reach the goal setting as well. Some of the managers prefer control employees than manipulating them. It is because manipulation is much more high risks than control employees works. For example, manager may set budget on the project to avoid high risks burden to hold. It is not to say that it is bad outcomes, but employees may be not satisfied and could not develop a better idea. Someone may think that manipulation is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The last time a global survey for homelessness was attempted by the United Nations in 2005, an estimated 100 million people were homeless worldwide. As many as 1.6 billion people lacked adequate housing. [1] In the United States, on a single night in January 2015, 564,708 people were experiencing homelessness meaning they were sleeping outside or in an emergency shelter or transitional housing program. [2] In 2013, the Slum population in India went up from 52 million to 65 million and it has been predicted to rise to 104 million. [3] Looking at the statistics, the main cause for homelessness could be contributed to the cost of affordable housing. Another example that could be considered could be of people living in disaster prone areas where people lose their houses overnight. In such scenarios, 3D printing could be a viable solution where houses could be printed in a couple of days as compared to traditional construction methods where people need to seek out emergency shelters till their houses are built.
